Abstract
BACKGROUND Ewing sarcoma (ES) is a malignant bone tumor most commonly affecting non-Hispanic White (NHW) adolescent males, though recognition among Hispanic individuals is rising. Prior population-based studies in the United States (US), utilizing Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) have shown higher all-cause mortality among White Hispanics, Blacks, and those of low socioeconomic status (SES). Florida is not part of SEER but is home to unique Hispanic populations including Cubans, Puerto Ricans, South Americans that contrasts with the Mexican Hispanic majority in other US states. This study aimed to assess racial/ethnic disparities on incidence and survival outcomes among this diverse Florida patient population. METHODOLOGY Our study examined all patients diagnosed with osseous ES (2005-2018) in Florida (n = 411) based on the state's population-based cancer registry dataset. Florida Age-adjusted Incidence Rates (AAIRs) were computed by sex and race-ethnicity and compared to the equivalent populations in SEER. Cause-specific survival disparities among Florida patients were examined using Kaplan-Meier analysis. Univariable and multivariable analyses using Cox regression were performed for race/ethnicity, with adjustment for age, sex, year of diagnosis, site of disease, staging, SES, and insurance type. RESULTS There was a significantly higher incidence of osseous ES in Florida Hispanic males (AAIR 2.6/1,000,000); (95% CI: 2.0-3.2 per 1,000,000; n = 84) compared to the SEER Hispanic males (AAIR 1.2/1,000,000;1.1-1.4 per 1,000,000; n = 382). Older age, distant metastasis, lack of chemotherapy or surgical resection were statistically significant determinants of poor survival while SES, insurance status and race-ethnicity were not. However, among nonmetastatic ES, Florida Hispanics had an increased risk of death compared to Florida NHW (adjusted Hazard Ratio 2.32; 95%CI: 1.20-4.46; p = 0.012). CONCLUSIONS Florida Hispanic males have a higher-than-expected incidence of osseous ES compared to the US. Hispanics of both sexes show remarkably worse survival for nonmetastatic disease compared to NHW. This disparity is likely multifactorial and requires further in-depth studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Bone tumors account for approximately 6% of all cancers in children. Malignant bone tumors, commonly occurring in children and adolescents, are associated with high mortality and morbidity. The overall survival of children with primary malignant bone tumors is affected by the stage of disease, time of diagnosis, and treatment response. Despite advanced treatment modalities with chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy, bone tumor is the third leading cause of death in children with malignancy. Patients with metastatic disease at diagnosis have poor outcomes compared to localized disease at presentation. The 5-year Overall Survival and event-free survival in children with primary malignant bone tumors were 85.2% and 69.2%. The study aimed to assess the clinicopathological profile and treatment outcomes of children with primary malignant bone tumors in our setup. MATERIALS AND METHODS A hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted on 95 children who met the inclusion criteria through structured questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using a statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 25. P-value < 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. Kaplan Meier survival estimate was used for overall and event-free survival analysis. RESULTS A total of ninety-five patients met the study inclusion criteria and the median age at diagnosis with primary malignant bone tumors was 10 years, with an interquartile range of 8-12 years. The duration of the illness from the onset of symptoms to the oncologic treatment center ranges from three weeks to 2 years with a mean duration of five months. Swelling was the commonest presenting symptom accounting for 95.8% (n = 91). Lower extremity was the commonest primary site of involvement accounting for 55.8% (n = 53) of children with primary malignant bone tumors. Osteosarcoma was the commonest malignant bone tumor constituted 66.3% (n = 63), followed by Ewing sarcoma at 33.7% (n = 32). About 41.2% (n = 39) of children had metastatic disease at presentation and the lung was the commonest site of distant metastasis. The Kaplan Meier survival estimate analysis showed the 1-year and 5-year overall survival probabilities for all pediatric primary malignant bone tumor patients were 65% (95% CI: 0.3-0.56) and 38% (95% CI:0.19-0.47) respectively. The 1-year and 5-year event-free survival probabilities were 55% (95% CI: 0.32-0.73) and 33% (95% CI: 0.10-0.59). The stage of the disease at presentation had a significant association with the outcome (p = 0.023). CONCLUSION Our study showed the mean duration of the illness from the onset of symptoms to the oncologic treatment center was 5 months ranging from 3 weeks to 2 years. More than one-third of the presented with metastatic disease at presentation. The 1-year and 5-year overall survival (OS) probabilities of children with primary malignant bone tumors were low in our setup compared to other studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although bone and soft tissue sarcoma is recognized as a rare cancer that originates throughout the body, few comprehensive reports regarding it have been published in Japan. PATIENTS AND METHODS Bone and soft tissue sarcomas were tabulated from the Cancer Registries at eight university hospitals in the Chugoku-Shikoku region. Prognostic factors in cases were extracted in a single facility and have been analyzed. RESULTS From 2016 to 2019, 3.4 patients with bone and soft tissue sarcomas per a general population of 100,000 were treated at eight university hospitals. The number of patients who underwent multidisciplinary treatment involving collaboration among multiple clinical departments has been increasing recently. In the analysis carried out at a single institute (Ehime University Hospital), a total of 127 patients (male/female: 54/73) with an average age of 67.0 y (median 69.5) were treated for four years, with a 5-year survival rate of 55.0%. In the analysis of prognostic factors by multivariate, disease stage and its relative treatment, renal function (creatinine), and a patient's ability of self-judgment, and a patient's mobility and physical capability were associated with patient prognosis regarding bone and soft tissue sarcomas. Interestingly, age did not affect the patient's prognosis (> 70 vs ≦ 70). CONCLUSIONS Physical and social factors may affect the prognosis of patients with bone and soft tissue sarcomas, especially those living in non-urban areas.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Numerous of models have been developed to predict the bone metastasis (BM) risk; however, due to the variety of cancer types, it is difficult for clinicians to use these models efficiently. We aimed to perform the pan-cancer analysis to create the cancer classification system for BM, and construct the nomogram for predicting the BM risk. METHODS Cancer patients diagnosed between 2010 and 2018 in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database were included. Unsupervised hierarchical clustering analysis was performed to create the BM prevalence-based cancer classification system (BM-CCS). Multivariable logistic regression was applied to investigate the possible associated factors for BM and construct a nomogram for BM risk prediction. The patients diagnosed between 2017 and 2018 were selected for validating the performance of the BM-CCS and the nomogram, respectively. RESULTS A total of 50 cancer types with 2,438,680 patients were included in the construction model. Unsupervised hierarchical clustering analysis classified the 50 cancer types into three main phenotypes, namely, categories A, B, and C. The pooled BM prevalence in category A (17.7%; 95% CI: 17.5%-17.8%) was significantly higher than that in category B (5.0%; 95% CI: 4.5%-5.6%), and category C (1.2%; 95% CI: 1.1%-1.4%) (p < 0.001). Advanced age, male gender, race, poorly differentiated grade, higher T, N stage, and brain, lung, liver metastasis were significantly associated with BM risk, but the results were not consistent across all cancers. Based on these factors and BM-CCS, we constructed a nomogram for predicting the BM risk. The nomogram showed good calibration and discrimination ability (AUC in validation cohort = 88%,95% CI: 87.4%-88.5%; AUC in construction cohort = 86.9%,95% CI: 86.8%-87.1%). The decision curve analysis also demonstrated the clinical usefulness. CONCLUSION The classification system and prediction nomogram may guide the cancer management and individualized BM screening, thus allocating the medical resources to cancer patients. Moreover, it may also have important implications for studying the etiology of BM.

Abstract
Malignant bone tumors are a group of rare malignant tumors and our study aimed to update the recent epidemiologic estimates based on the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results database. Patients diagnosed with malignant bone tumors from 2000 to 2019 were included and their characteristics were retrospectively described. The limited-duration prevalence, annual age-adjusted incidence and mortality were calculated, and the annual percentage changes were analyzed to quantify the rate change. Finally, observed survival and relative survival rate were illustrated. Subgroup analysis across tumor type, age, gender, tumor Grade, primary tumor site and stage was also performed. As for results, a total of 11 655 eligible patients with malignant bone tumor were selected. Osteosarcoma was the most common tumor type, followed by chondrosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma and chordoma. The estimated limited-duration prevalence of malignant bone tumors increased from 2000 (0.00069%) to 2018 (0.00749%). Steady age-adjusted incidence was observed in all patients during the study period while the highest rate occurred in osteosarcoma. Mortality rates differed in subgroups while elder patients (older than 64 years) presented the highest mortality rate compared to other age groups. In all bone tumors, the 10-year observed survival and relative survival rates were 58.0% and 61.9%, respectively. Chondrosarcoma patients had the best survival outcome, followed by osteosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma, chordoma and other bone tumors. In conclusion, different epidemiologic performance in incidence and mortality was observed across tumor type as well as other demographic and clinicopathological variables, which provide potential suggestion for further adjustment of medical resource.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To describe the epidemiology, clinical characteristics and utilisation patterns of bone-targeting agents (BTAs) in patients with bone metastases from breast, prostate and lung cancer. METHODS This is a multinational retrospective cohort study including patients with three major solid tumours (breast, prostate and lung cancer) and newly initiated on BTAs (ie, denosumab, zoledronic acid and pamidronate). Records were retrieved from nationwide health databases from Hong Kong and Taiwan (HK and TW: 2013-2017) and Korea (KR: 2012-2016). Descriptive analyses included the annual incidence rates of bone metastases and the cumulative incidence curves of BTA initiation. We used Sankey diagrams to visualise the dynamic BTA utilisation patterns. RESULTS The annual incidence rate of bone metastases ranged from 3.5% to 4.5% in TW, from 9.6% to 10.3% in HK and from 2.9% to 3.8% in KR. We identified 14.1% (5127), 9.3% (883) and 9.4% (4800) of patients with bone metastases newly initiated on BTAs in TW, HK and KR, respectively. The most frequently used BTA in TW (67.1%) and HK (51.9%) was denosumab, while in KR (84.8%) it was zoledronic acid. Sankey diagrams indicated the proportion of patients remaining on denosumab was highest in TW and HK, while it was zoledronic acid in KR. Specifically, in TW, patients who were on bisphosphonates or had discontinued treatment frequently switched to or reinitiated denosumab. CONCLUSIONS We found the rate of BTA utilisation remained low across all sites and tumour types in recent years. The dynamic utilisation patterns of BTAs provide better understanding of the treatment landscape for future evaluation of associated outcomes of patients.

Abstract
The clinical relevance of bone metastases (BM) in advanced pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PanNETs) is poorly described. We analyzed 314 consecutive PanNET patients treated at the European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society (ENETS) Center Essen between 2009 and 2021 in terms of the occurrence and clinical and prognostic impact of BM using hybrid imaging with 68Ga-DOTATOC PET/CT. According to UICC staging, 171/314 (54.5%) patients had stage IV PanNETs. BM was diagnosed in 62/171 (36.3%) patients. Initially, 35% of BMs were visible by pathological tracer uptake only. Skeletal-related events (SREs) were detected in 11 of the 62 patients (17.7%). Patients with antiresorptive therapy had a significantly lower rate of SRE (2/36, 5.6%) than individuals without bone-specific therapy (9/26, 34.6%) (odds ratio 9.0, p=0.0054, Fisher's exact test). The median overall survival (OS) was 82 months (53.6-110.4, 95% CI) in the stage IV PanNET cohort. The median OS was significantly lower for patients with BM (63 months; 49.9-76.0, 95% CI) than for patients with distant metastases other than BM (116 months; 87.6-144.3, 95% CI) (p=0.016, log-rank test). BM occurs in more than one-third of advanced PanNETs and is associated with an unfavorable prognosis. One in five patients experiences a persistent quality-of-life-lowering SRE. Antiresorptive therapy is associated with a more favorable risk of SREs and should be offered to all patients with BM in PanNETs.

Abstract
Background Patients with prior cancer are generally exempt from cancer experiments. This research aims to describe the prevalence, clinical features, and effects of past malignancy among patients with chondrosarcoma. Methods Chondrosarcoma patients diagnosed between 2010 to 2015 were collected from the SEER database. The propensity score matching method was used to reconcile the disparity in baseline attributes. Kaplan-Meier analysis was employed to explore the outcomes of prior cancer on overall survival. The proportional hazards assumption was used to certain whether the covariate matched the Cox regression model. The potential outliers were estimated by deviance residuals type. Results A total of 1,721 unique individuals were collected, of those 284 (16.50%) patients had a history of cancer, with prostate cancer being commonly documented (n = 49, 17.25%). Approximately half of the previous tumors are diagnosed within 5 years before the diagnosis of chondrosarcoma. Chondrosarcoma patients with prior cancers have a lower survival rate than those without prior malignancy (P < .001). A multivariable Cox analysis reveals that past cancer is a distinct risk factor for lifespan (hazard ratio = 2.489, P < .001). Conclusion This study initially discovered that chondrosarcoma patients with past cancer have a bad prognosis. Different types of past cancer have varying effects on survival. We urgently propose that cancer trial exclusion criteria be set specifically by cancer classification, rather than accepting the unchangeable criterion for default.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone tumor with a poor prognosis. The aim of this study was to establish a competitive risk model nomogram to predict cancer-specific survival in patients with osteosarcoma. METHODS Patient data was obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database in the United States. A sub-distribution proportional hazards model was used to analyze independent risk factors affecting cancer-specific mortality (CSM) in osteosarcoma patients. Based on these risk factors, a competitive risk model was constructed to predict 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year cancer-specific survival (CSS) in osteosarcoma patients. The reliability and accuracy of the nomogram were evaluated using the concordance index (C-index), the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), and calibration curves. RESULTS A total of 2900 osteosarcoma patients were included. The analysis showed that age, primary tumor site, M stage, surgery, chemotherapy, and median household income were independent risk factors influencing CSM in patients. The competitive risk model was constructed to predict CSS in osteosarcoma patients. In the training and validation sets, the C-index of the model was 0.756 (95% CI 0.725-0.787) and 0.737 (95% CI 0.717-0.757), respectively, and the AUC was greater than 0.7 for both. The calibration curves also demonstrated a high consistency between the predicted survival rates and the actual survival rates, confirming the accuracy and reliability of the model. CONCLUSION We established a competitive risk model to predict 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year CSS in osteosarcoma patients. The model demonstrated good predictive performance and can assist clinicians and patients in making clinical decisions and formulating follow-up strategies.

Abstract
To clarify the epidemiology, treatment, and prognosis of sarcomas occurring in the bones and joints. The surveillance, epidemiology, and end results (SEER) 18 registries, comprising sarcoma diagnoses made between 2008 and 2014, were queried for sarcomas arising in bones or joints. Kaplan-Meier analysis, multivariate logistic regression analysis, Cox proportional hazards model, and nomograms were used to identify prognostic factors. 2794 patients aged from 1 to 99 (55.8% male) with microscopically confirmed diagnosed as sarcomas (including osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma, and soft tissue sarcomas) which primary site limited to bone and joint were identified. Eight independent factors, including age, race, sex, tumor site, histology, pathology grade, tumor size, and total number of malignant tumors (TNOMT), were associated with tumor metastasis. Nine independent prognostic factors, including age (>=60 year, hazard ratio [HR] = 4.145, 95% confidence interval [CI], P < .001), sex (female, HR = 0.814, 95%CI, P = .007), tumor site (spine, HR = 2.527, 95%CI, P < .001), histology, pathology grade (undifferentiated, HR = 5.816, 95%CI, P < .001), tumor size (>=20 cm, HR = 3.043, 95%CI, P < .001), tumor extent (distant, HR = 4.145, 95%CI, P < .001), surgery (no performed, HR = 2.436, 95%CI, P < .001), and TNOMT (1, HR = 0.679, 95%CI, P < .001, were identified and incorporated to construct a nomogram for 2- and 5-year overall survival (OS). The calibration curve for the probability of survival showed good agreement between prediction by the nomogram and actual observation. The C-index of the nomogram for survival prediction was 0.814. Patients who received chemotherapy had a significantly decreased risk of death only for Ewing sarcoma, poorly differentiated tumors, undifferentiated tumors, and distant tumor invasion (P < .05). However, radiotherapy did not show significant differences in OS. This study presents population-based estimates of prognosis for patients with bone sarcomas and demonstrates the impact of age, race, sex, tumor site, histology, pathology grade, tumor size, tumor extent, surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and the TNOMT on OS. Moreover, the nomogram resulted in a more accurate prognostic prediction. However, in our study, radiotherapy showed no survival benefit, perhaps because detailed data on treatment factors were unavailable and which may have influenced the results.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Bone is one of the most common target sites for advanced tumours. The objective was to survey the prevalence and prognosis of bone metastases in 12 common solid malignant tumours. DESIGN A retrospective cohort study. METHODS A total of 1 425 332 patients with a primary cancer between 2010 and 2015 were identified using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. We computed the prevalence and prognosis of bone metastases in each cancer and compared their survival in different stages. The Kaplan-Meier method and Cox logistic regression were used to analyse survival and quantify the effect of bone metastases. RESULTS This study included 89 782 patients with bone metastases at diagnosis. Lung cancer had the highest prevalence (18.05%), followed by liver cancer (6.63%), nasopharyngeal carcinoma (6.33%) and renal cancer (5.45%). Breast cancer (32.1%), prostate cancer (25.9%), thyroid cancer (46.9%) and nasopharyngeal carcinoma (24.8%) with only bone metastases had a 5-year survival rate of over 20%. Compared with patients at the stage previous to metastasis, bone metastases significantly increased the risk of mortality and decreased survival, especially for those with prostate cancer (adjusted HR: 18.24). Other concomitant extraosseous metastases worsened patient survival. Bone was the most common site of metastasis for prostate cancer, while for colorectal cancer, multiorgan metastases were predominant. CONCLUSIONS This study provides the prevalence and prognosis of bone metastases at the initial diagnosis of common solid cancers. In addition, it demonstrates the impact of bone metastases on survival. These results can be used for early screening of metastases, clinical trial design and assessment of prognosis.

Abstract
Chondrosarcoma is the second largest bone malignancy after osteosarcoma and mainly affects middle-aged adults, where patients with distant metastasis (DM) often have a poor prognosis. Although nomograms have been widely used to predict distant tumor metastases, there is a lack of large-scale data studies for the diagnostic evaluation of DM in chondrosarcoma. Data on patients diagnosed with chondrosarcoma from 2004 to 2015 were obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. Independent risk factors for having DM from chondrosarcoma were screened using univariate and multivariate logistics regression analysis. A nomogram was created to predict the probability of DM from the screened independent risk factors. The nomogram was then validated using receiver operating characteristic curves and calibration curves. A total of 1870 chondrosarcoma patients were included in the study after data screening, of which 157 patients (8.40%) had DM at the time of diagnosis. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis screened four independent risk factors, including grade, tumor number, T stage, and N stage. receiver operating characteristic curves and calibration curves showed good accuracy of the nomogram in both training and validation sets. The current study screened for independent risk factors for DM from chondrosarcoma, which will help clinicians evaluate patients.

Abstract
Osteosarcoma is the most common bone malignancy. There are many studies on the prognostic factors of children and adolescents, but the characteristics and prognostic factors of adult osteosarcoma are rarely studied. The aim of this study was to construct a nomogram for predicting the prognosis of adult osteosarcoma. Information on all osteosarcoma patients aged ≥ 18 years from 2004 to 2015 was downloaded from the surveillance, epidemiology and end results database. A total of 70% of the patients were included in the training set and 30% of the patients were included in the validation set. Univariate log-rank analysis and multivariate cox regression analysis were used to screen independent risk factors affecting the prognosis of adult osteosarcoma. These risk factors were used to construct a nomogram to predict 3-year and 5-year prognosis in adult osteosarcoma. Multivariate cox regression analysis yielded 6 clinicopathological features (age, primary site, tumor size, grade, American Joint Committee on Cancer stage, and surgery) for the prognosis of adult osteosarcoma patients in the training cohort. A nomogram was constructed based on these predictors to assess the prognosis of adult patients with osteosarcoma. Concordance index, receiver operating characteristic and calibration curves analyses also showed satisfactory performance of the nomogram in predicting prognosis. The constructed nomogram is a helpful tool for exactly predicting the prognosis of adult patients with osteosarcoma, which could enable patients to be more accurately managed in clinical practice.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Primary malignant bone tumors are uncommon, and their epidemiological features are rarely reported. We aimed to study the incidence and death characteristics of bone tumors from 2000 to 2015. METHODS Population-based cancer registries submitted registry data to National Central Cancer Registry of China (NCCRC). The data collected from 501 local cancer registries in China were assessed using NCCRC screening methods and criteria. Incidence and mortality rates of primary bone tumor were stratified by age group, gender, and area. Age-standardized incidence and mortality rates were adjusted using the Chinese standard population in 2000 and Segi's world population. The annual percentage change (APC) in rate was calculated using the Joinpoint Regression Program. RESULTS Data from 368 registries met quality control criteria, of which 134 and 234 were from urban and rural areas, respectively. The data covered 309,553,499 persons. The crude incidence, age-standardized incidence, and crude mortality rates were 1.77, 1.35, and 1.31 per 100,000, respectively. Incidence and mortality rates were higher in males than those in females; they showed downward trends, with declines of 2.2% and 4.8% per year, respectively, and the rates in urban areas were lower than those in rural areas. Significant declining trends were observed in urban areas. Stable trends were seen in rural areas during 2000 to 2007, followed by downward trends. Age-specific incidence and mortality rates showed stable trends in the age group of 0 to 19 years, and downward trends in the age group elder than 19 years. CONCLUSIONS The incidence and mortality rates of primary malignant bone tumors in rural areas were higher compared to those in urban areas. Targeted prevention measures are required to monitor and control bone tumor incidence and improve the quality of life of affected patients. This research can provide a scientific basis for the prevention and control of bone tumors, as well as basic information for follow-up research.

Abstract
PURPOSE Little is known regarding long-term neurocognitive outcomes in osteosarcoma and Ewing sarcoma (EWS) survivors despite potential risk factors. We evaluated associations among treatment exposures, chronic health conditions, and patient-reported neurocognitive outcomes in adult survivors of childhood osteosarcoma and EWS. METHODS Five-year survivors of osteosarcoma (N = 604; median age 37.0 years) and EWS (N = 356; median age 35.0 years) diagnosed at < 21 years from 1970 to 1999, and 697 siblings completed the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study Neurocognitive Questionnaire and reported chronic health conditions, education, and employment. Prevalence of reported neurocognitive difficulties were compared between diagnostic groups and siblings. Modified Poisson regression identified factors associated with neurocognitive difficulties. RESULTS Osteosarcoma and EWS survivors, vs. siblings, reported higher prevalences of difficulties with task efficiency (15.4% [P = 0.03] and 14.0% [P = 0.04] vs. 9.6%, respectively) and emotional regulation (18.0% [P < 0.0001] and 15.2% [P = 0.03] vs. 11.3%, respectively), adjusted for age, sex, and ethnicity/race. Osteosarcoma survivors reported greater memory difficulties vs. siblings (23.5% vs. 16.4% [P = 0.01]). Comorbid impairment (i.e., ≥ 2 neurocognitive domains) was more prevalent in osteosarcoma (20.0% [P < 0.001]) and EWS survivors (16.3% [P = 0.02]) vs. siblings (10.9%). Neurological conditions were associated with worse task efficiency (RR = 2.17; 95% CI = 1.21-3.88) and emotional regulation (RR = 1.88; 95% CI = 1.01-3.52), and respiratory conditions were associated with worse organization (RR = 2.60; 95% CI = 1.05-6.39) for EWS. Hearing impairment was associated with emotional regulation difficulties for osteosarcoma (RR = 1.98; 95% CI = 1.22-3.20). Patient report of cognitive difficulties was associated with employment but not educational attainment. CONCLUSIONS Survivors of childhood osteosarcoma and EWS are at increased risk for reporting neurocognitive difficulties, which are associated with employment status and appear related to chronic health conditions that develop over time. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS Early screening, prevention, and treatment of chronic health conditions may improve/prevent long-term neurocognitive outcomes.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate the clinicopathological characteristics of AYA sarcomas and their clinical outcomes at a high-volume single center. METHODS Demographic, clinicopathological data on the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of all sarcoma patients aged 16-39 years (ys) observed at our Institute between January 2010 and December 2021 were retrospectively collected, including diagnostic (TTD) and treatment delay(TTT), clinical outcomes (OS and PFS), and late-treatment effects. RESULTS We identified 228 AYA patients, median age 30 years, 29% ≤ 25 years, 57% males, 88% soft tissue sarcomas (STS), and 12% bone sarcomas (BS). Among STSs, 13% were small round cell tumors (SRCT), 52% intermediate-high-grade, 24% low-grade STSs. Among BS, 32% were high-grade. Median TTD and TTT were 120 (0-8255) and 7 days (0-83), respectively. Surgery was performed in 83%, radiotherapy in 29%, and systemic therapy in 27%. Median follow-up was 72.9 months(1.6-145), 5-year and 10-year OS were 78.5% and 62%, respectively. Kaplan-Meyer analysis showed a significantly better 5-year OS and PFS for patients with >92 days of TTD (OS 85.7% vs. 66.7%, p = 0.001, PFS 50.2% vs. 24.9%, p = 0.009). According to age (≤25 years vs. > 25 years), 5-year OS was 69.8% versus 82.2%, respectively (p = 0.047). CONCLUSION Our analysis confirmed previous data on sarcoma AYA patients followed in a referral center. Unexpectedly, diagnostic delay was not associated with poor OS and PFS. Patients <25 years showed a poorer prognosis due to the higher incidence of SRCT.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The incidence of chondrosarcoma is increasing every year, and the treatment and prognosis of patients with high-grade chondrosarcoma are becoming more and more important. Nomogram is a tool that can quickly and easily predict the overall survival of tumor patients. Therefore, the development and validation of a nomogram to predict overall survival in patients with high-grade chondrosarcoma was desired. METHODS We retrospectively collected 396 patients with high-grade chondrosarcoma from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database from 2004 to 2015. Randomly divided into model and validation groups, the best cut-off values for age and tumor size grouping were derived by using X-tile software. Then, independent prognostic factors for high-grade chondrosarcoma were derived by SPSS.26 univariate and multivariate Cox analyses analysis in the model group, and the model was evaluated by using R software, using C-indix and ROC curves, and finally these independent prognostic factors were included in Nomogram. RESULTS 396 patients were randomly assigned to the modelling group (n = 280) or the validation group (n = 116). Age, tissue-type, tumor size, AJCC stage, regional expansion and surgery were identified as independent prognostic factors (p < 0.05) which further combined to construct a nomogram. The C-index of internal validation for overall survival(OS) was 0.757, while the C-index of external validation for overall survival(OS) was 0.832. Both internal and external calibration curves show a good agreement between nomogram prediction and actual survival. CONCLUSION In this study, we established age, tumour size, AJCC stage, tissue type, surgery and tumor extension as independent prognostic factors for high-grade chondrosarcoma and constructed a nomogram to predict 3- and 5-year survival rates for high-grade chondrosarcoma.

Abstract
Background Bone metastasis has been suggested to be a significant impactor on the prognosis of newly diagnosed de novo metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC), and some risk stratification models have been proposed on the basis of this hypothesis. However, the effectiveness of these risk stratification criteria has not been fully evaluated in China. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the risk stratification models in China. Methods A total of 140 patients who were newly diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer followed by primary androgen deprivation-based therapy from January 2008 to June 2021 at our institution were enrolled in this study. The patients were divided into different groups on the basis of high- and low-volume disease (H/LVD) criteria, high-and low-risk disease (H/LRD) criteria, extremity bone metastasis criteria (EBM), and extent of disease (EOD) criteria. The area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) and decision curve analysis (DCA) were used to compare the validity and net benefit of these models. Using the Cox proportional hazards model, we performed univariable and multivariable analyses of the factors influencing overall survival (OS) and the time of progression to metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). Results The median patient age was 72 years. Most patients had a Gleason score ≥8 (102 cases, 72.9%) and clinical T stage >2 (75 cases, 53.6%). The median follow-up time was 25 months (range, 2-95 months). Ninety-two patients progressed to CRPC and fifty-seven patients died during the follow-up. The AUC of OS and CRPC showed that the EOD model had higher validity than the other risk stratification models. DCA shows that the net benefit of the EOD model on OS was better than that of the other risk stratification models. As for CRPC, the net benefit of the EOD model was second only to that of the H/LRD model when the threshold was <0.5; however, when the threshold was >0.5, the EOD model outperformed the other models. The effectiveness of EOD as an independent prognostic variable was verified through univariable and multivariable analyses. Conclusion The EOD model yields reasonable risk stratification for use in Chinese mHSPC patients, providing further evidence supporting its role in clinical decision-making.

Abstract
Osteosarcoma (OST) and Ewing sarcoma (ES) are the most common pediatric bone cancers. Patients with metastatic disease at diagnosis have poorer outcomes compared with localized disease. Using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results registries, we identified children and adolescents diagnosed with OST or ES between 2004 and 2015. We examined whether demographic and socioeconomic disparities were associated with a higher likelihood of metastatic disease at diagnosis and poor survival outcomes. In OST, Hispanic patients and those living in areas of high language isolation were more likely to have metastatic disease at diagnosis. Regardless of metastatic status, OST patients with public insurance had increased odds of death compared to those with private insurance. Living in counties with lower education levels increased odds of death for adolescents with metastatic disease. In ES, non-White adolescents had higher odds of death compared with white patients. Adolescents with metastatic ES living in higher poverty areas had increased odds of death compared with those living in less impoverished areas. Disparities in both diagnostic and survival outcomes based on race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic factors exist in pediatric bone cancers, potentially due to barriers to care and treatment inequities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone tumor, its high incidence of metastasis and poor prognosis have led to a great deal of concern for osteosarcoma. In many cancer types, metabolic processes are important for tumor growth progression, so interfering with the metabolic processes of osteosarcoma may be a therapeutic option to stall osteosarcoma progression. A key mechanism of how metabolic processes contribute to the growth and survival of various cancers, including osteosarcoma, is their ability to support tumor cell metabolism. Research related to this field is a direction of great importance and potential. However, to our knowledge, no bibliometric studies related to this field have been published, and we will fill this research gap. METHODS Publications were retrieved on January 1, 2023 from the 1990-2022 Science Citation Index of the Web of Science Core Collection. The Bibliometrix package in R software, VOSviewer and CiteSpace software were used to analyze our research directions and to visualize global trends and hotspots in osteosarcoma and metabolism related research. RESULTS Based on the search strategy, 833 articles were finally filtered. In this area of research related to osteosarcoma metabolism, we found that China, the United States and Japan are the top 3 countries in terms of number of articles published, and the journals and institutions that have published the most research in this area are Journal of bone and mineral research, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. In addition, Baldini, Nicola, Reddy, Gs and Avnet, Sofia are the top three authors in terms of number of articles published in studies related to this field. The most popular keywords related to the field in the last 30 years are "metabolism" and "expression", which will guide the possible future directions of the field. CONCLUSION We used Bibliometrix, VOSviewer, and Citespace to visualize and bibliometrically analyze the current status and possible future hotspots of research in the field of osteosarcoma metabolism. Possible future hotspots in this field may focus on the related terms "metabolism", "expression", and "migraation".

RESULTS In total, 3438 patients with osteosarcoma were identified. Of these patients, 79 (2.3%) developed SPMs, with an SIR of 2.84 (95% confidence interval [CI] 2.35 to 3.39, P < 0.0001) and an AER of 44.96. The most common SPMs were tumors of the bones or joints (SIR 73.07, CI, 38.90 to 124.94, P < 0.0001, AER 7.48), tumors of soft tissues including the heart (SIR 15.19, CI, 5.58 to 33.07, P < 0.0001, AER 3.27), and leukemia (SIR 22.28, CI, 15.03 to 31.80, P < 0.0001, AER 16.74). CONCLUSION The overall incidence of SPMs in osteosarcoma survivors was significantly higher than would otherwise be expected for this population. Considering the occurrence and targeting surveillance for SPM in the osteosarcoma patient population is warranted.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE Limited data exists analyzing disparities in diagnosis regarding primary bone neoplasms (PBN). The objective of our study was to determine if there is an association between race/ethnicity and advanced stage of diagnosis of PBN. METHODS This population-based retrospective cohort study included patient demographic and health information extracted from the National Cancer Institute Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program (SEER). The main exposure variable was race/ethnicity categorized as non-Hispanic white (NH-W), non-Hispanic black (NH-B), non-Hispanic Asian Pacific Islander (NH-API), and Hispanic. The main outcome variable was advanced stage at diagnosis. Age, sex, tumor grade, type of bone cancer, decade, and geographic location were co-variates. Unadjusted and adjusted logistic regression analyses were conducted calculating odds ratios (OR) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals. RESULTS Race/ethnicity was not statistically significantly associated with advanced-stage disease. Adjusted OR for NH-B was 0.94 (95% CI: 0.78-1.38), for NH-API 1.07 (95% CI: 0.86-1.33) and for Hispanic 1.03 (95% CI: 0.85-1.25). CONCLUSIONS The lack of association between race and advanced stage of disease could be due to high availability and low cost for initial management of bone malignancies though plain radiographs. Future studies may include socioeconomic status and insurance coverage as covariates in the analysis.

Abstract
Osteosarcoma (OS) is one of the most prevalent malignant bone tumors. The proportion of limb OS is relatively high, and lung metastases (LM) are one of the most prevalent metastatic types. A total of 1694 new cases of limb OS were identified in the surveillance, epidemiology and end results (SEER) database from 2010 to 2018. Cox regression analyze was performed to identify prognostic factors for limb OS with LM, and univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to assess risk factors for LM. Kaplan-Meier analysis was performed to calculate overall survival for LM, and a log-rank test was used for comparison. A total of 287 patients (16.94%) were diagnosed with limb OS with LM. 25 to 59 years old (odds ratio, OR 0.68; 95% confidence interval, CI: 0.46-0.99), larger than 100 mm tumors (OR 3.65, 95% CI: 1.54-8.64), telangiectatic osteosarcoma type (OR 0.24, 95% CI: 0.07-0.81), central osteosarcoma type (OR 0.44, 95% CI: 0.19-0.99), T2 stage (OR 2.59, 95% CI: 1.18-5.69), N1 stage (OR 7.79, 95% CI: 3.90-15.56), presence of bone metastases (OR 4.58, 95% CI: 2.43-8.63) and surgical treatments of primary site (OR 0.22, 95% CI: 0.14-0.33) were significant correlations with lung metastases. Elderly age, black race and absence of surgery were harmful for survival. Age between 25 and 59 years, telangiectatic osteosarcoma and central osteosarcoma were identified as high-risk factors in limb OS patients with LM, and surgical treatment of the primary site significantly increased the survival rate of LM in these patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Teriparatide, a recombinant human parathyroid hormone analogue, is associated with increased bone mineral density and a decreased risk of fractures. A dose-dependent increase in the incidence of osteosarcoma was observed in toxicology studies conducted in rats. The primary objective of this study was to estimate the incidence of osteosarcoma over a 10-year period among teriparatide-treated patients versus patients unexposed to teriparatide with osteoporosis and patients in the general population using national pharmacy dispensing data linked with data from participating state cancer registries (SCRs) in the US. METHODS Patients aged 18 years or older with a dispensed teriparatide prescription formed two different cohorts: Teriparatide-Osteoporosis (Teriparatide-OP) was formed by matching teriparatide patients to unexposed patients with osteoporosis and Teriparatide-General Population (Teriparatide-GP) was formed by matching teriparatide patients to general population patients with a dispensed prescription for a medication other than teriparatide. Matching was performed using select demographics and other variables. Study cohorts were linked to SCR data to ascertain osteosarcoma status. To account for missing outcome data from non-participating SCRs, two analytic approaches were used: the first adjusted the person-time at-risk using a coverage fraction and the second restricted the analyses to patients from states with participating SCRs. RESULTS There were 18 osteosarcoma cases across four study cohorts: the same three cases in the Teriparatide-OP and Teriparatide-GP cohorts, six cases in the Osteoporosis cohort, and nine cases in the General Population cohort. For the analysis using the coverage fraction the incidence rate ratio (IRR) comparing the Teriparatide-OP and Teriparatide-GP cohorts to the Osteoporosis and General Population cohorts was 1.0 (95% CI: 0.2, 4.5) and 1.3 (95% CI: 0.2, 5.1), respectively. When restricting the analysis to patients from states with participating SCRs, the IRR was 0.6 (95% CI: 0.1, 3.6) and 0.8 (95% CI 0.1, 4.0), respectively. CONCLUSION The estimates of association between teriparatide and osteosarcoma were imprecise due to the small number of observed osteosarcoma cases. However, the incidence of osteosarcoma observed in each study cohort was within the expected range given background rates for the US general population. The evidence generated by this study, in conjunction with other real-world studies evaluating the risk of osteosarcoma, was used to support changes to the US teriparatide label (including removal of the black box warning regarding potential risk of osteosarcoma) and expand treatment options for patients with osteoporosis.

Abstract
Background Pancreatic cancer (PC) is one of the most common malignant types of cancer, with the lung being the frequent distant metastatic site. Currently, no population-based studies have been done on the risk and prognosis of pancreatic cancer with lung metastases (PCLM). As a result, we intend to create two novel nomograms to predict the risk and prognosis of PCLM. Methods PC patients were selected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program (SEER) database from 2010 to 2016. A multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to identify risk factors for PCLM at the time of diagnosis. The multivariate Cox regression analysis was carried out to assess PCLM patient's prognostic factors for overall survival (OS). Following that, we used area under curve (AUC), time-dependent receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curves, calibration plots, consistency index (C-index), time-dependent C-index, and decision curve analysis (DCA) to evaluate the effectiveness and accuracy of the two nomograms. Finally, we compared differences in survival outcomes using Kaplan-Meier curves. Results A total of 803 (4.22%) out of 19,067 pathologically diagnosed PC patients with complete baseline information screened from SEER database had pulmonary metastasis at diagnosis. A multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed that age, histological subtype, primary site, N staging, surgery, radiotherapy, tumor size, bone metastasis, brain metastasis, and liver metastasis were risk factors for the occurrence of PCLM. According to multivariate Cox regression analysis, age, grade, tumor size, histological subtype, surgery, chemotherapy, liver metastasis, and bone metastasis were independent prognostic factors for PCLM patients' OS. Nomograms were constructed based on these factors to predict 6-, 12-, and 18-months OS of patients with PCLM. AUC, C-index, calibration curves, and DCA revealed that the two novel nomograms had good predictive power. Conclusion We developed two reliable predictive models for clinical practice to assist clinicians in developing individualized treatment plans for patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study evaluated the incidence of de novo bone metastasis across all primary cancer sites and their impact on survival by primary cancer site, age, race, and sex. QUESTIONS/PURPOSES Our objectives were (I) characterize the epidemiology of de novo bone metastasis with respect to patient demographics, (II) characterize the incidence by primary site, age, and sex (2010-2015), and (III) compare survival of de novo metastatic cancer patients with and without bone metastasis. METHODS This is a retrospective, population-based study using nationally representative data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results program, 2010-2015. Incidence rates by year of diagnosis, annual percentage changes, Kaplan-Meier, univariate and multiple Cox regression models are included in the analysis. RESULTS Of patients with cancer in the SEER database, 5.1% were diagnosed with metastasis to bone, equaling ~18.8 per 100,000 bone metastasis diagnoses in the US per year (2010-2015). For adults >25, lung cancer is the most common primary site (2015 rate: 8.7 per 100,000) with de novo bone metastases, then prostate and breast primaries (2015 rates: 3.19 and 2.38 per 100,000, respectively). For patients <20 years old, endocrine cancers and soft tissue sarcomas are the most common primaries. Incidence is increasing for prostate (Annual Percentage Change (APC) = 4.6%, P < 0.001) and stomach (APC = 5.0%, P = 0.001) cancers. The presence of de novo bone metastasis was associated with a limited reduction in overall survival (HR = 1.02, 95%, CI = [1.01-1.03], p < 0.001) when compared to patients with other non-bone metastases. CONCLUSION The presence of bone metastasis versus metastasis to other sites has disease site-specific impact on survival. The incidence of de novo bone metastasis varies by age, sex, and primary disease site.

Abstract
Objective: Race disparities exist in bone metastasis (BM) development and survival in lung cancer (LC) patients. The Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database was used to investigate different patterns of BM development and survival in different races.Design: LC patients with BM were identified from the database from 2010 to 2014. Risk factors were investigated by univariable and multivariable logistic regression. Potential factors for prognosis were evaluated by univariable and multivariable Cox regression.Results: Asian and Pacific Islander (API) patients presented the highest prevalence of BM (24.6%), followed by white (20.7%) and black patients (19.9%) (χ2 = 78.74; p < .001). After adjusting for the demographic and clinical factors, API race was independently associated with a high risk of BM development. The median survival times for the API, white and black LC patients with BM were 16 months (95% CI: 15.2-16.8), 11 months (95% CI: 10.9-11.1) and 10 months (95% CI: 9.7-10.3), respectively, with significant differences (p < .001). Multivariable Cox regression showed that API race was positively associated with greater overall survival compared with white and black patients. Male gender, larger tumor size, lymph node involvement, lower tumor differentiated grade, and the presence of lung, liver and brain metastases were independently associated with a high risk of developing BM and worse survival with LC across all races. Age, income, insurance and histological types had different impacts on BM among different races.Conclusion: Homogeneous and heterogeneous associated factors for BM were revealed among different races. Individualized screening and treatment should be performed race-specifically.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The study objective was to investigate and compare the effectiveness of different radiopharmaceuticalsin the treatment of metastatic bone disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS Cancer patients (n = 150, average age (55 ± 11.6) years, 95 females, 55 males) having gotvarious primary tumors and metastatic bone disease were given medical treatment at the Department of NuclearMedicine of the National Institute of Cancer. The 153Sm, 32Р, and 89Sr radiopharmaceutical agents produced by the«Radiopreparats» enterprise (Republic of Uzbekistan) and Radioisotope Centre Polatom (National Centre for NuclearResearch, Poland) were administered to the patients. There were cases of breast cancer (n = 75), prostate cancer(n = 45), lung cancer (n = 10), kidney cancer (n = 4), cervical cancer (n = 5), and rectosigmoid cancer (n = 11) amongthe treated subjects. In 135 patients (90 %) the bone metastases were detected by osteoscintigraphy with 99мTc- mo-nodiphosphonate. In 15 cases the diagnosis of metastatic bone disease was verified by other radiology methods. RESULTS The pain intensity rating scale (LACOMED) was used to assay the analgesic effect of various radiopharma-ceuticals in metastatic bone disease. Results of treatment with 32P, 89Sr, and 153Sm were included in a comparativeanalysis procedure. It was established that the level of pain syndrome ranged from 7-8 points on the LACOMED scalebefore treatment. Upon administration of radionuclide therapy the level of pain was reduced down to 3-5 points,namely with 32P therapy it has decreased by 30.7 %, with 89Sr by 33.2 %, and with 153Sm by 41.5 % respectively. Timepattern of 153Sm analgesic effectiveness was studied depending on the number of treatment sessions. The best valueof analgesic effect of 153Sm was registered after the first treatment session with a tendency to decrease after the sec-ond and significantly lower analgesic effects after the third session. Tolerance of 153Sm was rated on the CTCNCA (v)4.3 scale. The best tolerance was peculiar to 153Sm corresponding to the «good» level according to a point assess-ment. When using 89Sr the drug tolerance was lower, not requiring however the drug discontinuation. The 32P radio-pharmaceutical featured the lowest tolerance approaching the «satisfactory» rating. In 11 patients upon that theside effects were found significantly impairing the patient's status, accordingly some extra measures were required.No decision to cancel the drug administration was made. CONCLUSIONS Radionuclide therapy with 153Sm-oxabiphor agent can be used in the complex treatment of metastat-ic bone disease in cancer patients having got tumors of different localization. 153Sm-oxabiphor is the most effectiveand best tolerable radiopharmaceutical agent in the pain treatment in metastatic bone disease in comparison with32P and 89Sr preparations (р < 0.05).

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the predictive factors of home discharge for rehabilitation patients with cancer bone metastasis.Cancer patients with bone metastasis who underwent rehabilitation between April 2014 and March 2017 were retrospectively enrolled. Data on discharge destination were collected from medical records as outcomes. Multiple regression analyses were carried out to investigate the predictive factors of home discharge.Ninety-eight patients (mean age: 68.6 years, 42 females and 56 males) were included. Fifty patients were discharged home, 38 patients were discharged to other facilities, and 10 patients died. There were no skeletal-related events among these patients during their hospital stay. The receiver-operating curve for the predictive factors for home discharge of the Barthel Index at admission, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Performance Status at admission, and number of immediate family members living at home were 60 points (area under the curve [AUC] = 0.74, sensitivity = 0.6400, 1-specificity = 0.2766), 2 score (AUC = 0.65, sensitivity = 0.5400, 1-specificity = 0.2222), and 1 family member (AUC = 0.65, sensitivity = 0.9592, 1-specificity = 0.7222), respectively.In order to plan for cancer patients with bone metastasis to be discharged home, it is important to take into consideration the patients' Barthel Index and Performance Status at the time of hospital admission and the number of immediate family members living at home.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We sought to compare survival outcomes of sarcomas in the pediatric and adolescent/young adult populations with universal care access in the Military Health System (MHS) to those from the United States general population. METHODS We compared data from the Department of Defense's (DoD) Automated Central Tumor Registry (ACTUR) and the National Cancer Institute's (NCI) Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program on the overall survival of patients 24 years or younger with histologically or microscopically confirmed sarcoma between diagnosed between January 1, 1987, and December 31, 2013. The Kaplan-Meier survival curves were used to compare survival between the 2 patient populations. Cox proportional hazard models were used to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) comparing ACTUR relative to SEER. RESULTS The final analysis included 309 and 1236 bone sarcoma cases and 465 and 1860 soft tissue sarcoma cases from ACTUR and SEER, respectively. Cox proportional hazards analysis showed soft tissue sarcoma patients in ACTUR had significantly better overall (HR=0.73, 95% CI=0.55-0.98) and 5-year overall (HR=0.63, 95% CI=0.46-0.86) survival compared with SEER patients, but no significant difference in overall or 5-year overall survival between ACTUR and SEER patients with bone sarcoma. CONCLUSION Survival data from the ACTUR database demonstrated significantly improved overall survival for soft tissue sarcomas and equivalent survival in bone sarcomas compared with that reported by SEER.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Chondrosarcoma is the second most frequent primary malignant bone tumor, is characterized by the formation of a chondroid matrix, is more frequent in advanced ages and its prognosis is directly related to the histological subtype and tumor grade. The objective of this article is to present the demographic and treatment profile in a reference center. MATERIAL AND METHODS A retrospective, descriptive, observational, analytical cohort-type study was conducted in a reference center between January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2019, the demographic variables were analyzed and contrasted with the outcome variables that were overall survival and disease-free period. RESULTS 85 patients were included, the mean age of presentation was 43.3 years, the clinical stage at the time of presentation was mostly IIa and IIb covering 54.1%. 35 patients had metastases with clinical stage IV. The main site of metastasis was the lung in 32 patients (37.6%). Thirty-six patients (42.3%) had specific mortality. 35 patients (41.2%) died as a result of metastatic disease to lung or other organs, one patient died from direct extension of the tumor in the cervical spine. CONCLUSION The important prognostic factors found in our series that influence global survival are: the presence of metastases and axial localization.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE Bone resorption inhibitors (BRIs) are recommended by international guidelines to prevent skeletal-related events (SREs) among patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) and bone metastases. Abiraterone acetate with prednisone is currently the most common first-line therapy for the treatment of patients with mCRPC; however, the clinical impact of the addition of BRIs to abiraterone acetate with prednisone in this disease setting is unknown. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the association of the use of concomitant BRIs with overall survival (OS) and time to first SRE among patients with mCRPC and bone metastases receiving abiraterone acetate with prednisone as first-line therapy. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS This retrospective cohort study collected data from 745 consecutive patients who began receiving abiraterone acetate with prednisone as first-line therapy for mCRPC with bone metastases between January 1, 2013, and December 31, 2016. Data were collected from 8 hospitals in Canada, Europe, and the US from June 15 to September 15, 2019. EXPOSURES Patients were classified by receipt vs nonreceipt of concomitant BRIs and subclassified by volume of disease (high volume or low volume, using definitions from the Chemohormonal Therapy Vs Androgen Ablation Randomized Trial for Extensive Disease in Prostate Cancer [CHAARTED] E3805 study) at the initiation of abiraterone acetate with prednisone therapy. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES The primary end point was OS. The secondary end point was time to first SRE. The Kaplan-Meier method and Cox proportional hazards models were used. RESULTS Of the 745 men (median age, 77.6 years [interquartile range, 68.1-83.6 years]; 699 White individuals [93.8%]) included in the analysis, 529 men (71.0%) received abiraterone acetate with prednisone alone (abiraterone acetate cohort), and 216 men (29.0%) received abiraterone acetate with prednisone plus BRIs (BRI cohort). A total of 420 men (56.4%) had high-volume disease, and 276 men (37.0%) had low-volume disease. The median follow-up was 23.5 months (95% CI, 19.8-24.9 months). Patients in the BRI cohort experienced significantly longer OS compared with those in the abiraterone acetate cohort (31.8 vs 23.0 months; hazard ratio [HR], 0.65; 95% CI, 0.54-0.79; P < .001). The OS benefit in the BRI cohort was greater for patients with high-volume vs low-volume disease (33.6 vs 19.7 months; HR, 0.51; 95% CI, 0.38-0.68; P < .001). The BRI cohort also had a significantly shorter time to first SRE compared with the abiraterone acetate cohort (32.4 vs 42.7 months; HR, 1.27; 95% CI, 1.00-1.60; P = .04), and the risk of a first SRE was more than double in the subgroup with low-volume disease (HR, 2.29; 95% CI, 1.57-3.35; P < .001). In the multivariable analysis, concomitant BRIs use was independently associated with longer OS (HR, 0.64; 95% CI, 0.52-0.79; P < .001). CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE In this study, the addition of BRIs to abiraterone acetate with prednisone as first-line therapy for the treatment of patients with mCRPC and bone metastases was associated with longer OS, particularly in patients with high-volume disease. These results suggest that the use of BRIs in combination with abiraterone acetate with prednisone as first-line therapy for the treatment of mCRPC with bone metastases could be beneficial.

Abstract
Esophageal cancer (EC) is relatively common; at the time of diagnosis, 50% of cases present with distant metastases, and most patients are men. This study aimed to examine and compare the clinicopathological characteristics and metastatic patterns of male EC (MEC) and female EC (FEC). In addition, risk factors associated with MEC prognosis were evaluated.The present study population was extracted from the Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results database. MEC characteristics and factors associated with prognosis were evaluated using descriptive analysis, the Kaplan-Meier method, and the Cox regression model.A total of 12,558 MEC cases were included; among them, 3454 cases had distant organ metastases. Overall, 27.5% of the entire cohort were patients with distant organ metastases. Compared with patients with non-metastatic MEC, patients with metastatic MEC were more likely to be aged ≤60 years, of Black and White race, have a primary lesion in the overlapping esophagus segments, and have a diagnosis of adenocarcinoma of poorly differentiated and undifferentiated grade that was treated with radiotherapy and chemotherapy rather than surgery; moreover, they were also more likely to be married and insured. In addition, patients with MEC were more likely to be aged ≤60 years, White race, and diagnosed with a primary lesion in the lower third of the esophagus and overlapping esophagus segments, and treated without chemotherapy, compared with those with FEC. Patients in the former group were also more likely than those in the latter group to be unmarried and have bone metastasis only and lung metastasis only. Liver, lung, and bone metastases separately, and simultaneous liver and lung metastases were associated with poor survival in MEC patients.Metastatic MEC is associated with clinicopathological characteristics and metastatic patterns different from those associated with non-metastatic MEC and metastatic FEC. Metastatic MEC and FEC patients may have similar prognoses. Distant organ metastasis may be associated with poor prognosis in patients with MEC and FEC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the incidence and diagnostic relevance of pathological fracture in patients with conventional central chondrosarcoma (CC-CS). MATERIALS AND METHODS Retrospective review of patients with CC-CS diagnosed between January 2007 and December 2019. Data collected included age, sex, skeletal location and the presence of pathological fracture at presentation. Histological tumour grade based on surgical resection or needle biopsy was classified as atypical cartilaginous tumour (ACT)/grade 1 CS (ACT/Gd1 CS), high-grade CS (HG-CS) and dedifferentiated CS (DD-CS). The presence of pathological fracture was correlated with age, skeletal location and tumour grade. RESULTS Three hundred seventeen patients were included (177 males and 140 females with mean age 55.8 years, range 9-91 years). Mean age of patients without pathological fracture was 54.4 years and those with pathological fracture 62.9 years (p = 0.002). The major long bones were involved in 171 cases, the flat bones in 112 cases, the mobile spine in 7 cases and the small bones of the hands and feet in 27 cases. There were 81 ACT/Gd 1 CS, 168 HGCS and 68 DD-CS. Pathological fracture was evident at presentation in 51 (16.1%) cases, the commonest bones involved being the femur (n = 21; 41.2%), humerus (n = 10; 19.6%) and acetabulum (n = 7; 13.7%). Pathological facture occurred in 7 cases of ACT/Gd 1 CS (13.7%), 23 cases of HGCS (45.1%) and 21 cases of DD-CS (41.2%) (p = 0.001). Following multivariate analysis, both older age and histological grade were independently significant factors. CONCLUSIONS Pathological fracture was seen in 16.1% of patients with CC-CS. Pathological fractures in the femur, humerus and acetabulum very likely indicate higher tumour grade.

Abstract
UNLABELLED The Forteo Patient Registry estimated the incidence of osteosarcoma in US patients treated with teriparatide and enrolled in the study between 2009 and 2019. No incident cases of osteosarcoma were identified among patients registered, and the crude incidence rate was 0 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0-10.2) cases per million person-years. PURPOSE The prospective, voluntary Forteo Patient Registry was established to estimate the incidence of osteosarcoma in patients who have received treatment with teriparatide (Forteo). METHODS Information on US adults prescribed teriparatide and enrolled in the Forteo Patient Registry 2009-2019 was linked with data from participating state cancer registries annually (2010-2019) to identify incident osteosarcoma cases using a standardized linkage algorithm. Teriparatide exposure was ascertained from self-reported data that included teriparatide initiation and demographics necessary to complete linkage. Osteosarcoma cases diagnosed on or after January 1, 2009, were identified by participating state cancer registries. The crude incidence rate (IR) and standardized incidence ratio (SIR) of observed cases to the expected number of cases adjusted to the background rate (3 per million person-years) and corresponding 95% CIs for the occurrence of osteosarcoma were calculated whereby the cumulative amount of person-time observed was adjusted for mortality. RESULTS Data for 75,247 enrolled patients (representing 361,763 cumulative person-years) were linked to each of 42 participating state cancer registries (covering 93% of the US population), which included information on 6180 cases of osteosarcoma. No matches with incident cases of osteosarcoma following registry enrollment were found. The crude IR was 0 (95% CI, 0-10.2) cases per million person-years and the SIR was 0 (95% CI, 0-3.0). CONCLUSIONS The ability to draw conclusions about the incidence of osteosarcoma among patients participating in the registry was limited due to the smaller than expected amount of patient follow-up time and the fact that no cases were identified.

Abstract
Bone tumours are rarely found in children and adolescents (0- 19 years old), but there are reports from some provinces in Iraq indicating possible increases in the incidence of childhood bone cancer. Since counts are very low and often zero, or near zero, we fitted zero-inflated Poisson, zero-inflated negative binomial, Poisson hurdle, and negative binomial hurdle regression models to investigate these changes. We used data covering the 2000-2015 period taking age, gender and province into account with the aim of identifying potential health disparities. The results indicate that the zero-inflated Poisson is the most appropriate approach. We also found that, the incidence rate ratio of bone tumours for age groups of 5-9, 10-14 and 15-19 years were 134%, 490% and 723% higher, respectively, compared to the 0-4 year olds. The incidence rate was higher by 49% higher in males compared to females. Compared to 2000-2004, the rate was higher during 2005-2009 and 2010-2015 by 23% and 50%, respectively. In addition, the provinces Al-Muthana and Al-Diwaniyah in the South were found to have a higher incidence rate than other provinces. Join point analysis showed that the age-adjusted incidence rate had a significant, increasing trend, with an average percentage change of 3.1% during 2000-2015. The study suggests that further research into childhood tumours, bone tumours in particular, is needed. Reference to the effect of environmental factors in this group of medical disorders would be of special interest.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Treatment of bone and soft-tissue sarcomas can be costly, and therefore, it is not surprising that insurance status of patients is a prognostic factor in determining overall survival. Furthermore, uninsured individuals with suspected bone and/or soft-tissue masses routinely encounter difficulty in obtaining access to basic healthcare (such as office visits, radiology scans), and therefore are more likely to be diagnosed with later stages at presentation. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) mandate of 2010 aimed to increase access to care for uninsured individuals by launching initiatives, such as expanding Medicaid eligibility, subsidizing private insurance, and developing statewide mandates requiring individuals to have a prescribed minimum level of health insurance. Although prior reports have demonstrated that the ACA increased both coverage and the proportion of early-stage diagnoses among patients with common cancers (including breast, colon, prostate, and lung), it is unknown whether similar improvements have occurred for patients with bone and soft-tissue sarcomas. Understanding changes in insurance coverages and stage at diagnosis of patients with bone and soft-tissue sarcomas would be paramount in establishing policies that will ensure orthopaedic cancer care is made equitable and accessible to all. QUESTIONS/PURPOSES (1) Has the introduction of the ACA been associated with changes in insurance coverage for adult patients with newly diagnosed bone and soft-tissue sarcomas? (2) Did the introduction of health reforms under the ACA lead to an increased proportion of sarcoma diagnoses occurring at earlier disease stages? METHODS The 2007 to 2015 Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results database was queried using International Classification of Diseases for Oncology codes for primary malignant bone tumors of the upper and lower extremity (C40.0 to C40.3), unspecified or other overlapping bone, articular cartilage, and joint and/or ribs, sternum, or clavicle (C40.8 to C40.9, C41.3, and C41.8 to C41.9), vertebral column (C41.2), pelvis (C41.4, C41.8, and C41.9), and soft-tissue sarcomas of the upper or lower extremity and/or pelvis (C49.1, C49.2, and C49.5). A total of 15,287 patients with newly diagnosed cancers were included, of which 3647 (24%) were malignant bone tumors and 11,640 (76%) were soft-tissue sarcomas. The study sample was divided into three cohorts according to specified time periods: pre-ACA from 2007 to 2010 (6537 patients), pre-Medicaid expansion from 2011 to 2013 (5076 patients), and post-Medicaid expansion from 2014 to 2015 (3674 patients). The Pearson chi square tests were used to assess for changes in the proportion of Medicaid and uninsured patients across the specified time periods: pre-ACA, pre-expansion and post-expansion. A differences-in-differences analysis was also performed to assess changes in insurance coverage for Medicaid and uninsured patients among states that chose to expand Medicaid coverage in 2014 under the ACA's provision versus those who opted out of Medicaid expansion. Since the database switched to using the American Joint Commission on Cancer (AJCC) 7th edition staging system in 2010, linear regression using data only from 2010 to 2015 was performed that assessed changes in cancer stage at diagnosis from 2010 to 2015 alone. After stratifying by cancer type (bone or soft-tissue sarcoma), Pearson chi square tests were used to assess for changes in the proportion of patients who were diagnosed with early, late, and unknown stage at presentation before Medicaid expansion (2011-2013) and after Medicaid expansion (2014-2015) among states that chose to expand versus those who did not. RESULTS After stratifying by time cohorts: pre-ACA (2007 to 2010), pre-expansion (2011 to 2013) and post-expansion (2014 to 2015), we observed that the most dramatic changes occurred after Medicaid eligibility was expanded (2014 onwards), with Medicaid proportions increasing from 12% (pre-expansion, 2011 to 2013) to 14% (post-expansion, 2014 to 2015) (p < 0.001) and uninsured proportions decreasing from 5% (pre-expansion, 2011 to 2013) to 3% (post-expansion, 2014 to 2015) (p < 0.001). A differences-in-differences analysis that assessed the effect of Medicaid expansion showed that expanded states had an increase in the proportion of Medicaid patients compared with non-expanded states, (3.6% [95% confidence interval 0.4 to 6.8]; p = 0.03) from 2014 onwards. For the entire study sample, the proportion of early-stage diagnoses (I/II) increased from 56% (939 of 1667) in 2010 to 62% (1137 of 1840) in 2015 (p = 0.003). Similarly, the proportion of unknown stage diagnoses decreased from 11% (188 of 1667) in 2010 to 7% (128 of 1840) in 2015 (p = 0.002). There was no change in proportion of late-stage diagnoses (III/IV) from 32% (540 of 1667) in 2010 to 31% (575 of 1840) in 2015 (p = 0.13). CONCLUSION Access to cancer care for patients with primary bone or soft-tissue sarcomas improved after the ACA was introduced, as evidenced by a decrease in the proportion of uninsured patients and corresponding increase in Medicaid coverage. Improvements in coverage were most significant among states that adopted the Medicaid expansion of 2014. Furthermore, we observed an increasing proportion of early-stage diagnoses after the ACA was implemented. The findings support the preservation of the ACA to ensure cancer care is equitable and accessible to all vulnerable patient populations. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level III, therapeutic study.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To develop and externally validate a CT-based radiomics nomogram for pretreatment prediction of relapse in osteosarcoma patients within one year. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this multicenter retrospective study, a total of 80 patients (training cohort: 63 patients from three hospitals; validation cohort: 17 patients from three other hospitals) with osteosarcoma, undergoing pretreatment CT between August 2010 and December 2018, were identified from multicenter databases. Radiomics features were extracted and selected from tumor regions on CT image, and then, the radiomics signature was constructed. The radiomics nomogram that incorporated the radiomics signature and clinical-based risk factors was developed to predict relapse risk with a multivariate Cox regression model using the training cohort and validated using the external validation cohort. The performance of the nomogram was assessed concerning discrimination, calibration, reclassification, and clinical usefulness. RESULTS Kaplan-Meier curves based on the radiomics signature showed a significant difference between the high-risk and the low-risk groups in both training and validation cohorts (P < 0.001 and P = 0.015, respectively). The radiomics nomogram achieved good discriminant results in the training cohort (C-index: 0.779) and the validation cohort (C-index: 0.710) as well as good calibration. Decision curve analysis revealed that the proposed model significantly improved the clinical benefit compared with the clinical-based nomogram (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS This multicenter study demonstrates that a radiomics nomogram incorporated the radiomics signature and clinical-based risk factors can increase the predictive value of the osteosarcoma relapse risk, which supports the clinical application in different institutions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) data of sarcoma survivors are scarce and the impact of age remains unclear. The aims of this population-based study were to (i) compare HRQoL scores amongst three age-groups [adolescents and young adults (AYA, aged 18-39 years), older adults (OA, aged 40-69 years) and elderly (aged ≥70 years)]; (ii) compare HRQoL of each sarcoma survivor age group with an age- and sex-matched normative population sample; (iii) determine factors associated with low HRQoL per age group. METHODS Dutch sarcoma survivors, who were 2-10 years after diagnosis, were invited to complete the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core 30-questions questionnaire on HRQoL. RESULTS In total, 1099 survivors (58% response rate) completed the questionnaire: 186 AYAs, 748 OAs and 165 elderly. The median time since diagnosis for all patients was 5.2 years. Bone sarcomas were seen in 41% of AYAs, 22% of OAs and in 16% of elderly survivors (P < 0.01). AYA and OA survivors reported statistically significant and clinically meaningful worse physical, role, cognitive, emotional and social functioning compared with a matched norm population, which was not the case for elderly survivors. AYAs reported significantly worse scores on emotional and cognitive functioning compared with OA and elderly survivors. Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumour, osteosarcoma and chordoma were the subtypes of which survivors reported the lowest HRQoL scores in comparison with the norm. For all age groups, chemotherapy, having a bone sarcoma and having comorbidities were most frequently associated with low scores on HRQoL subscales, whereas a shorter time since diagnosis was not. CONCLUSION In this nationwide sarcoma survivorship study, the disease and its treatment had relatively more impact on the HRQoL of AYA and OA survivors than on elderly survivors. These results emphasise the need for personalised follow-up care that not only includes risk-adjusted care related to disease relapse, but also age-adjusted care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Giant cell tumour (GCT) is an invasive benign bone tumour, and the incidence of pulmonary metastasis is rare. We are aiming to analyze risk factors of pulmonary metastasis and clinical prognosis for giant cell tumour patients with pulmonary metastasis. METHOD We performed a retrospective study of 310 patients with GCT between December 2004 and December 2016. Risk factors of pulmonary metastasis were analyzed by univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis. Then, the influence of risk factors of overall LR (local recurrence), recurrent tumor at presentation, LR after our therapy, and with soft tissue mass on the pulmonary metastasis-free survival rates was analyzed. RESULTS The mean follow-up of the present cohort was 45.6 ± 35.3 months (median, 36.6 months; range, 6.1-193.4 months). Eighteen (5.8%) of 310 patients developed pulmonary metastasis. The average interval from surgery of primary tumour to detection of pulmonary metastasis was 15 months. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed overall local recurrence was the independent risk factor of developing pulmonary metastasis. Among 18 patients with pulmonary metastasis, sixteen cases had history of local recurrence (88.9%, 16/18), including eleven (68.8%, 11/16) with local recurrence at presentation before receiving our therapy and seven (43.8%, 7/16) with local recurrence after receiving treatment in our hospital. Time to local recurrence had obvious difference between patients with and without pulmonary metastasis. Patients with pulmonary metastasis were prone to recur earlier. Furthermore, overall local recurrence, local recurrence after our therapy, recurrent tumor at presentation, and tumour with a soft tissue mass showed statistical differences in the pulmonary metastasis-free survival rates. CONCLUSIONS Giant cell tumour patients with soft tissue mass and overall local recurrence are prone to develop pulmonary metastasis. Although giant cell tumour is a benign tumor, more attention should be paid to the problem of pulmonary metastatic lesions, and chest CT scan should be recommended during follow-up.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NEN) can originate in different organs, for example, the gastroenteral tract (GE), pancreas (Pan), or lungs (L). Our aim was to examine metastatic patterns for patients with NEN of various primary origins with a special focus on brain metastases to indicate utility for screening. METHODS All NEN patients except for small cell lung cancer registered in the Netherlands Cancer Registry from 2008 to 2018 were selected. Metastatic patterns at initial diagnosis for NEN with different primary origins were compared. In a subcohort of patients from 2 referral hospitals (2014-2019), additional information on, for example, development of metastases after initial presentation was available. RESULTS In the nationwide cohort, 4,768/11,120 (43%) patients had metastatic disease at diagnosis (GE: 1,504/4,710 [32%]; Pan: 489/1,150 [43%]; and L: 1,230/2,978 [41%]). For GE- and Pan-NEN, the most prevalent metastatic site was the liver (25 and 39%), followed by distant lymph nodes (8 and 8%), whereas only few patients with brain metastases were identified (0% in both). In contrast, for L-NEN, prevalence of metastases in the liver (19%), brain (9%), lung (7%), and bone (14%) was more equal. In the reference network cohort, slightly more NEN patients had metastatic disease (260/539, 48%) and similar metastatic patterns were observed. CONCLUSION Almost half of NEN patients were diagnosed with synchronous metastatic disease. L-NEN have a unique metastatic pattern compared to GE- and Pan-NEN. Remarkably, an important part of L-NEN metastases was in the brain, whereas brain metastases were almost absent in GE- and Pan-NEN, indicating utility of screening in L-NEN.

Abstract
PURPOSE Overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) of luminal A breast cancer (BC) patients with bone metastasis remain poor and vary dramatically from person to person. Our goal was to build two universally applicable nomograms to accurately predict OS and CSS for luminal A patients with bone metastasis. METHODS The data were collected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database for luminal A BC patients with bone metastasis between 2010 and 2015. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were to assess and identify independent risk factors of OS and CSS. Integrating all significant predictors, nomograms and risk group stratification model was developed. The performance of the nomogram was validated with concordance index (C-index), calibration plots, and decision curve analyses (DCA) for discriminative ability, calibration, and clinical utility, respectively. RESULTS 3171 luminal A BC patients with bone metastasis were included. Through univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses, 12 variables were identified as both independent OS- and CSS-related factors, including age, race, primary site, histology grade, tumor size, surgery, brain metastasis, liver metastasis, lung metastasis, estrogen receptor status, progesterone receptor status, and insurance. Our nomograms for 1-, 3-, and 5-year survival were based on those significant prognostic factors to develop. The C-indexes of OS- and CSS-nomograms in the training cohort were 0.701 and 0.704, respectively. Similar results were obtained in the validation cohort. The calibration curves and DCA presented satisfactory calibration and clinical utility. CONCLUSION Two nomograms have good discrimination, calibration, and clinical utility, can accurately and effectively predict the prognosis of patients, and may benefit for clinical decision-making. In high-risk patients, more aggressive therapy and closer surveillance should be considered.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The current study aims to investigate the expression of serum miR-129 in breast cancer patients with bone metastasis and to further study its diagnostic role. METHODS Serum samples of 60 patients with bone metastasis of breast cancer and 60 patients with non-bone metastasis of breast cancer were collected. The expression of serum miR-129 in breast cancer patients was detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). The relationship between miR-129 and bone metastasis or bone pain in breast cancer patients with bone metastasis was analyzed. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was performed to analyze the diagnostic role of serum miR-129 expression in breast cancer patients with bone metastasis. RESULTS The expression of miR-129 in serum of breast cancer patients with bone metastasis was significantly lower than that of non-bone metastasis patients. Furthermore, the lower the expression level of serum miR-129 was, the higher the degree of bone metastasis and bone pain was found in breast cancer patients. The ROC curve showed that the area under the curve (AUC) of miR-129 expression in serum for diagnosis of bone metastasis of breast cancer was 0.941 (95% CI: 0.891 - 0.991) with the sensitivity and specificity of 87.5% and 91.7%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS In summary, decreased serum miR-129 in breast cancer patients can be used as a potential diagnostic marker of bone metastasis in breast cancer patients.

Abstract
Objective The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence and distribution of bone metastases in treatment-naïve prostate cancer patients eligible for a metastatic workup using whole-body MRI, and to evaluate the results in light of current guidelines. Methods This single-institution, retrospective study included all patients with treatment-naïve prostate cancer referred to whole-body MRI during 2016 and 2017. All were eligible for a metastatic workup according to the guidelines: PSA > 20 ng/ml and/or Gleason grade group ≥ 3 and/or cT ≥ 2c and/or bone symptoms. The definition of a metastasis was descriptive and based on the original MRI reports. The anatomical location of metastases was registered. Results We included 161 patients with newly diagnosed prostate cancer of which 36 (22%) were intermediate-risk and 125 (78%) were high-risk. The median age and PSA were 71 years (IQR 64–76) and 13 ng/ml (IQR 8–28), respectively. Bone metastases were found in 12 patients (7%, 95% CI: 4–13), and all were high-risk with Gleason grade group ≥ 4. The pelvis was affected in 4 patients, and the spine + pelvis in the remaining 8. No patients demonstrated metastases to the spine without concomitant metastases in the pelvis. Limitations are the small number of metastases and retrospective design. Conclusion This study suggests that the overall prevalence of bone metastases using the current guidelines for screening is quite low. No metastases were seen in the case of Gleason grade group ≤ 3, and further studies should investigate if it necessary to screen non-high-risk patients. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is widely used in the treatment of malignant and non-malignant diseases. Due to advances in the number of survivors of this treatment, the number of survivors is increasing, but the late complications of this therapeutic approach such as secondary cancers have been long term and have not been fully controlled. METHODS The present meta-analysis study was performed by considering English-language articles in the databases including Web of Science, Scopus and PubMed. This meta-analysis included cohort studies that reported an incidence of cancer following stem cell transplantation (SCT). Random/fixed effect size meta-analyses were used to standardize the incidence ratio for different cancers. RESULTS 22 studies that evaluated patients receiving SCT (n = 270,063) were included in the study. The study found 9233 cases of cancer after transplantation. Meta-analysis showed that the risk of cancer after SCT was SIR = 1.66 (95% CI 1.47-1.86). The most common cancers observed in SCT recipients were bone tissue, head and neck cancers, and melanoma, with SIRs of 10.04 (3.48-16.61), 6.35 (4.76-7.93) and 3.52 (2.65-4.39), respectively. CONCLUSION The meta-analysis findings showed that the risk of secondary cancers after HSCT was significantly increased in most types of cancers. Consequently, diagnostic tests for common cancers should be included in the screening program of these patients for the prevention and early detection of high-risk cancers.

Abstract
Primary bone and soft tissue tumours are rare in a non-referral teaching department. The incidence varies greatly among the different subtypes and every Orthopaedic surgeon will encounter one or more benign or malignant lesions during their careers. History, clinical examination and technical investigations are of great importance, but basic knowledge and basic principles are necessary for a correct clinical practice. It was the purpose of this study to raise awareness towards such pathology by exemplifying our cases from a two-year period in our community-based hospital and if necessary, to refer patients to specialised sarcoma centres.

Abstract
Public health policy decisions in the United States have resulted in 62.4% of the population having access to fluoridated water. The purpose of this study was to examine the association between community water fluoridation and osteosarcoma. A secondary data analysis was performed with data collected from 2 separate but linked studies. Patients for phase 1 and phase 2 were selected from US hospitals via a matched case-control study design. For both phases, cases included patients diagnosed with osteosarcoma, and controls were patients diagnosed with other bone tumors or nonneoplastic conditions. In phase 1, cases (n = 209) and controls (n = 440) were patients of record in the participating orthopedic departments from 1989 to 1993. In phase 2, cases (n = 108) and controls (n = 296) were incident patients who were identified and treated by orthopedic physicians from 1994 to 2000. This analysis included all patients who met eligibility criteria on whom we had complete data on covariates, exposures, and outcome. Conditional logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% CIs for the association of community water fluoridation with osteosarcoma. A modestly significant interaction existed between fluoridation living status and bottled water use (P = 0.047). The adjusted OR for osteosarcoma and ever having lived in a fluoridated area for nonbottled water drinkers was 0.51 (95% CI, 0.31 to 0.84; P = 0.008). In the same comparison, the adjusted OR for bottled water drinkers was 1.86 (95% CI, 0.54 to 6.41; P = 0.326). Findings from this study demonstrated that community water fluoridation is not associated with an increased risk for osteosarcoma.

Abstract
Bone is one of the most common sites of metastasis from advanced solid tumors. Bone metastasis is a leading cause of pain and increases the risk of skeletal-related events (SREs) in cancer patients. In addition to affecting the quality of life, it also increases the medical costs and mortality risk. We aimed to examine the occurrence of bone metastasis and SREs in Korean cancer patients using a nationwide health database. Using claims data from the National Health Insurance Service-National Sample Cohort (2002–2013), we extracted the data of bone metastasis patients diagnosed with any of the seven major cancers in Korea from January 2002 to December 2010. Selected SREs included pathologic fracture, spinal cord compression, radiation therapy, and palliative bone surgery. We used time-to-event analysis to estimate patient survival after bone metastasis. A total of 21,562 newly diagnosed cancer patients were identified; bone metastases developed in 1,849 patients (breast cancer, 18.8%; prostate cancer, 17.5%; lung cancer, 13.7%). The median time from primary cancer diagnosis to bone metastasis was 18.9 months. The cumulative incidence of SREs was 45.1% in all bone metastasis patients. The most common cancer type was lung cancer (53.4%), followed by liver (50.9%), prostate (45.9%), breast (43.6%), and colorectal (40.2%) cancers. Almost all SREs developed 1 month after bone metastasis, except in patients with breast and prostate cancers (median: 5.9 months in breast cancer and 4.7 months in prostate cancer). Survival duration after the development of bone metastasis was < 6 months in stomach, liver, colorectal, and lung cancer patients. Breast and prostate cancer patients survived for > 1 year after the occurrence of SREs. This study reveals the epidemiology of bone metastasis and SREs in Korean cancer patients, and the findings can be used to assess the actual bone health status of cancer patients.
