Abstract
Introduction
Adults diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) likely have a history of psychological trauma. There has been research about the connection between Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (c-PTSD) and BPD.
Objectives
This paper provides a review of the relationship between complex trauma and key features of BPD.
Methods
Review of the literature from 2015 to present, using search engines such as Pubmed and Google Shoolar, using the following keywords: borderline personality disorder, complex post-traumatic stress disorder, trauma
Results
Traumatic victimisation and compromised primary caregiving relationships have been hypothesized to be key aetiological factors in the subsequent development of BPD. c-PTSD was defined as a syndrome with symptoms of emotional dysregulation, dissociation somatisation and poor self-esteem, with distorted cognition about relationships, following traumatic interpersonal abuse. It was proposed as an alternative for understanding and treating people who had suffered prolonged and severe interpersonal trauma, many of whom were diagnosed with BPD. Although, the boundaries between c-PTSD and BPD remain vague. Currently, the main difference is the assumption that symptoms of c-PTSD are sequelae of exposure to traumatic stress, which is not inherent in the current DSM-5 definition of BPD. Furthermore, to date, the neurochemistry and neurostructural changes seen in c-PTSD, BPD and PTSD do not clearly differentiate the three conditions.
Conclusions
BPD and PTSD are relatively distinct with regard to the precise qualitative definitions of their diagnostic features, but nevertheless have substantial potential overlap in their symptom criteria.

Abstract
Introduction About a decade ago, the idea of a Late-Onset Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (LO-PTSD) emerged, in order to characterize the later-life emergence of symptoms related to early-life warzone trauma among aging combat Veterans. Objectives This paper provides a review of the changes happened during the onset of a late form of PTSD and how can mental health professionals intervene. Methods Review of the literature from 2015 to present, using search engines such as Pubmed and Google Schoolar, using the following keywords: Late-Onset Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, triggers, prevention, intervention Results At first, there was hypothesized that aging-related challenges (role transition and loss, death of family members and friends, physical and cognitive decline) might lead to increased reminiscence, and possibly distress, among Veterans who had previously dealt successfully with earlier traumatic events. However, recent studies have proposed that in later life many combat Veterans confront and rework their wartime memories in an effort to find meaning and build coherence. Through reminiscence, life review, and wrestling with issues such as integrity versus despair, they intentionally reengage with experiences they avoided or managed successfully earlier in life, perhaps without resolution or integration. This process can lead positively to personal growth or negatively to increased symptomatology. Conclusions Therefore the role of preventive intervention in enhancing positive outcomes for Veterans who reengage with their wartime memories in later life should be reconsidered. Abstract
IntroductionGenital pain is a heterogeneous chronic pain condition and the relationship between biological, psychological and social factors sets a complex clinical challenge. The importance of negative thoughts and emotions has opened up an opportunity for the role of third generation cognitive-behavioral therapies (CBT). While the majority of evidence revolves around female sexual desire and arousal problems, research on genital pain disorders is beginning to take shape.ObjectivesTo review the evidence of third generation CBT on genital pain disorder.MethodsReview of literature using the Pubmed platform.ResultsWe identified 21 publications. Evidence shows that mindfulness-based CBT (MbCBT) improves reduction of fear linked to sexual activity, pain acceptance, catastrophizing and decentering. MbCBT shows significant improvements on secondary outcomes (overall sexual function, sexual satisfaction, depression and anxiety) while reduction of genital pain has yielded contradictory results. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) has been studied for chronic pain disorders with improvements on pain acceptance, psychological flexibility, anxiety, depression and functioning. Compassion-focused therapy (CFT) has yielded favorable results on pain distress and intensity, self-efficacy, self-acceptance, anxiety and depression. Self-compassion may be a promising protective factor in genital pain. Both ACT and CFT have not yet been studied specifically for genital pain.ConclusionsThird generation CBT are most commonly used for depressive, anxiety and chronic pain disorders which signals the logical role that these interventions may have in genital pain. While MbCBT has started to present favorable results in treating genital pain (as well other sexual problems), ACT and CFT require more research.

Does paternal age impair embryo aneuploidy and clinical outcomes in ICSI donor-oocytes cycles when fresh (FRs) and vitrified (VTs) spermatozoa are used?
Summary answer
Paternal age affects clinical outcomes, not embryo aneuploidy. With VTs, young and old men had similar outcomes. With FRs, young men had higher reproductive potential.
What is known already
Advanced paternal age is associated with low quality of sperm and an increase of reactive oxidative species, responsible of the DNA fragmentation, as well epigenetic disorders. In these men, the DNA repair mechanisms have a reduced ability to repair damaged DNA enhancing the likelihood of replication errors in the germ line. This genomic instability of the male gamete entails to chromosome abnormalities, generating potentially a negative effect on implantation and clinical outcomes. In addition, when the maternal oocyte repair mechanisms are not able to compensate quantitatively and qualitatively the sperm damages unrepaired embryos might develop.
Study design, size, duration
This retrospective study includes 848 couples undergoing 905 ICSI donor-cycles between January 2019 and February 2020, with similar quality and number of mature oocytes retrieved. Maternal age of recipients was 40.9±6 years and only those with previously failed cycles with their own oocytes were included. The clinical outcomes and aneuploidy were analyzed in two groups with the male partner being younger (M ≤ 40) or older than 40 years (M > 40).
Participants/materials, setting, methods
This study includes couples that underwent ICSI cycles with donor-oocytes using FRs and VTs ejaculates. Samples were analyzed according to WHO 2010 criteria. An in house-protocol (Vitri-Sperm®) was used to perform spermatozoa vitrification/warming. Embryo quality was assessed with time-lapse technology (Geri®), Aneuploidy Testing (PGT-A) was carried out on blastocyst’s trophectoderm using NGS (Illumina®) and Fisher’s Exact test was used for statistical analysis. P-value was considered statistically significant at a threshold of < 0.05.
Main results and the role of chance
Fresh ejaculate was used in 192 cycles with M ≤ 40 (concentration: 39.4±35 x 106/mL; motility: 35.1±16%) and 242 with M > 40 (concentration: 36±34 x 106/mL; motility: 30±16%) yielding similar fertilization: 75.3% (1785/2369) Vs 75.6% (2232/2938). Comparing M ≤ 40 with M > 40 implantation decreased significantly from 66.6% (92/138) to 54.4% (79/145, P = 0.03), Clinical Pregnancy Rate (CPR) from 68% (85/125) to 54.3% (75/138 P = 0.03). Pregnancy loss from 15.2% (19/125) to 17.3% (24/138), not statistically significant.
Vitrified spermatozoa in 195 cycles with M ≤ 40 (concentration: 4.9±7 x 106/mL; motility: 13.4±9%), and 276 with M > 40 (concentration: 4.3±4 x 106/mL; motility: 13.9±12%) yielded significant difference in fertilization, 76.2% (1841/2416) Vs 72.4% (2386/3293, P < 0.001), respectively. In M ≤ 40 and M > 40 implantation was 51.9% (40/77) Vs 49.1% (60/122) (p < 0.05), CPR was 53% (38/71) Vs 54% (59/109). Pregnancy loss was 16.9% (12/71) Vs 13.7% (15/109), not statistically significance.
In M ≤ 40 undergoing ICSI+PGT-A cycles (N = 43) with FRs, euploidy was 71% (157/221) Vs 73.5% (256/348) in M > 40 cycles (N = 71). Implantation and CPR were equal in FRs groups, 77.1% (27/35) Vs 75.8% (44/58). Using VTs euploidy in M ≤ 40 cycles (N = 63) was 71.9% (210/292), compared to 70.0% (279/399) in M > 40 cycles (N = 82). Implantation and CPR were higher in both groups, 76.5% (36/47) Vs 73.6% (53/72), not statistically significant.
Limitations, reasons for caution
Normo- and oligo-zoospermic patients, with quite different parameters and ethnicities have been included, allowing an analysis on a larger study population, but suitable of being analyzed further by subgroups. Implantation parameters like receptivity or immunologic disorders weren’t addressed. No data have been included on perinatal and obstetrical outcomes for pregnancies.
Wider implications of the findings: Paternal age affects the clinical outcomes and embryo viability, it does not affect embryo aneuploidy when FRs and VTs are used. In ICSI donor-oocytes cycles with VTs, no significant difference in clinical outcome was found between young and older men. However, young men with fresh ejaculate have higher reproductive.

Abstract
Background: Nursing homes for older adults have concentrated large numbers of severe cases and deaths for COVID-19. Methods: Point seroprevalence study of nursing homes to describe the demography and characteristic of SARS-CoV-2 IgG-positive residents and staff. Results: Clinical information and blood samples were available for 9,332 residents (mean age 86.7 ± 8.1 years, 76.4% women) and 10,614 staff (mean age 45.6 ± 11.5, 86.2% women). Up to 84.4% of residents had frailty, 84.9% co-morbidity and 69.3% cognitive impairment; 65.2% of workers were health-aides. COVID-19 seroprevalence was 55.4% (95% CI, 54.4–56.4) for older adults and 31.5% (30.6–32.4) for staff. In multivariable analysis frailty of residents was related with seropositivity (OR: 1.19, p = 0.02). In the case of staff, age > 50 years (2.10, p < 0.001), obesity (1.19, p = 0.01), being a health-aide (1.94, p < 0.001), working in a center with high seroprevalence in residents (3.49, p < 0.001), and contact with external cases of COVID-19 (1.52, p < 0.001) were factors associated with seropositivity. Past symptoms of COVID-19 were good predictors of seropositivity for residents (5.41, p < 0.001) and staff (2.52, p < 0.001). Conclusions: Level of dependency influences risk of COVID-19 among residents. Individual and work factors, and contacts outside the nursing home are associated with COVID-19 exposure in staff members. It is key to strengthen control measures to prevent the introduction of COVID-19 into care facilities from the community.

Abstract
The fungal genus Plectosphaerella comprises species and strains with different lifestyles on plants, such as P. cucumerina, which has served as model for the characterization of Arabidopsis thaliana basal and nonhost resistance to necrotrophic fungi. We have sequenced, annotated, and compared the genomes and transcriptomes of three Plectosphaerella strains with different lifestyles on A. thaliana, namely, PcBMM, a natural pathogen of wild-type plants (Col-0), Pc2127, a nonpathogenic strain on Col-0 but pathogenic on the immunocompromised cyp79B2 cyp79B3 mutant, and P0831, which was isolated from a natural population of A. thaliana and is shown here to be nonpathogenic and to grow epiphytically on Col-0 and cyp79B2 cyp79B3 plants. The genomes of these Plectosphaerella strains are very similar and do not differ in the number of genes with pathogenesis-related functions, with the exception of secreted carbohydrate-active enzymes (CAZymes), which are up to five times more abundant in the pathogenic strain PcBMM. Analysis of the fungal transcriptomes in inoculated Col-0 and cyp79B2 cyp79B3 plants at initial colonization stages confirm the key role of secreted CAZymes in the necrotrophic interaction, since PcBMM expresses more genes encoding secreted CAZymes than Pc2127 and P0831. We also show that P0831 epiphytic growth on A. thaliana involves the transcription of specific repertoires of fungal genes, which might be necessary for epiphytic growth adaptation. Overall, these results suggest that in-planta expression of specific sets of fungal genes at early stages of colonization determine the diverse lifestyles and pathogenicity of Plectosphaerella strains.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Melanoma is one of the fastest growing neoplasms worldwide. Treatment of metastatic disease has swiftly shifted in the last decade from generally ineffective chemotherapy regimens to highly effective targeted treatments or immunotherapy, with a range of side effects that differ completely from those of previous treatments for this disease. CASE We present a case of a 71-year-old man with diagnosis metastatic melanoma. This patient was treated with anti-CTLA-4 antibody ipilimumab. Despite minor skin toxicity, the regimen was well tolerated until he developed hemolytic anemia, an autoimmune side effect of ipilimumab. The treatment was withdrawn and steroids were administered until the issue was resolved. CONCLUSION Immunotherapy has become the standard of care for many tumors, and its side effects are completely different from those of chemotherapy, meaning that oncologists must be aware of this to avoid a potentially life-threatening situation and arrive at an early diagnosis and implement prompt treatment.Key words: anemia - autoimmune event - anti-CTLA-4.

Abstract
AIM To describe a series of patients with drug resistant epilepsy treated with vagus nerve stimulation in a national pediatric hospital, evaluating efficacy, safety and tolerability. PATIENTS AND METHODS A retrospective analysis of 158 pediatric patients with epilepsy resistant to pharmacological and non pharmacological treatment including surgery that were treated with vagus nerve stimulation between 2001-2015. Patients with progressive encephalopathies, and congenital heart disease were excluded. RESULTS 158 patients (80 male) were included, with a mean age at implantation of 11.4 years and a mean age at evolution of epilepsy of 9.5 years. Time of follow-up: 1-15 years (median: 6.9 years). Patient's age at this time: 2-31 years (median: 14.1 years). Effectiveness: 66.5% of patients showed more or equal at 50% of seizure control at 24 months of implant. Just three patients showed severe side effects (1.8%). Minor side effects were seen in 26 patients (16.4%). Without side effects: 129 (81.8%). CONCLUSION Vagus nerve stimulation is an effective, tolerable and safe therapy in our pediatric series with refractory epilepsy.

Abstract
The FTF (Fusarium transcription factor) gene family comprises a single copy gene, FTF2, which is present in all the filamentous ascomycetes analysed, and several copies of a close relative, FTF1, which is exclusive to Fusarium oxysporum. An RNA-mediated gene silencing system was developed to target mRNA produced by all the FTF genes, and tested in two formae speciales: F. oxysporum f. sp. phaseoli (whose host is common bean) and F. oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici (whose host is tomato). Quantification of the mRNA levels showed knockdown of FTF1 and FTF2 in randomly isolated transformants of both formae speciales. The attenuation of FTF expression resulted in a marked reduction in virulence, a reduced expression of several SIX (Secreted In Xylem) genes, the best studied family of effectors in F. oxysporum, and lower levels of SGE1 (Six Gene Expression 1) mRNA, the presumptive regulator of SIX expression. Moreover, the knockdown mutants showed a pattern of colonization of the host plant similar to that displayed by strains devoid of FTF1 copies (weakly virulent strains). Gene knockout of FTF2 also resulted in a reduction in virulence, but to a lesser extent. These results demonstrate the role of the FTF gene expansion, mostly the FTF1 paralogues, as a regulator of virulence in F. oxysporum and suggest that the control of effector expression is the mechanism involved.

Abstract
Two plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) were tested to evaluate their capacity to prime rice seedlings against stress challenge (salt and Xanthomonas campestris infection). As is accepted that plants respond to biotic and abiotic stresses by generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), enzyme activities related to oxidative stress (ascorbate peroxidase (APX, EC 1.11.1.11), guaiacol peroxidase (GPX, EC 1.11.1.7), glutathione reductase (GR, EC 1.6.4.2) and superoxide dismutase (SOD, EC 1.15.1.1)) as well as the pathogenesis-related proteins (PRs) ß-1,3-glucanase (PR2, EC 3.2.1.6) and chitinase (PR3, EC 3.2.1.14) were measured at 3 time points after stress challenge. In addition, photosynthetic parameters related with fluorescence emission of photosystem II (F0, Fv/Fm, ΦPSII and NPQ) were also measured although they were barely affected. Both strains were able to protect rice seedlings against salt stress. AMG272 reduced the salt symptoms over 47% with regard to control, and L81 over 90%. Upon pathogen challenge, 90% protection was achieved by both strains. All enzyme activities related to oxidative stress were modified by the two PGPR, especially APX and SOD upon salinity stress challenge, and APX and GR upon pathogen presence. Both bacteria induced chitinase activity 24 and 48 h after pathogen inoculation, and L81 induced ß-1,3-Glucanase activity 48 h after pathogen inoculation, evidencing the priming effect. These results indicate that these strains could be used as bio-fortifying agents in biotechnological inoculants in order to reduce the effects of different stresses, and indirectly reduce the use of agrochemicals.

Abstract
The analysis of the interaction between Arabidopsis thaliana and adapted (PcBMM) and nonadapted (Pc2127) isolates of the necrotrophic fungus Plectosphaerella cucumerina has contributed to the identification of molecular mechanisms controlling plant resistance to necrotrophs. To characterize the pathogenicity bases of the virulence of necrotrophic fungi in Arabidopsis, we developed P. cucumerina functional genomics tools using Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation. We generated PcBMM-GFP and Pc2127-GFP transformants constitutively expressing the green fluorescence protein (GFP), and a collection of random T-DNA insertional PcBMM transformants. Confocal microscopy analyses of the initial stages of PcBMM-GFP infection revealed that this pathogen, like other necrotrophic fungi, does not form an appressorium or penetrate into plant cells, but causes successive degradation of leaf cell layers. By comparing the colonization of Arabidopsis wild-type plants and hypersusceptible (agb1-1 and cyp79B2cyp79B3) and resistant (irx1-6) mutants by PcBMM-GFP or Pc2127-GFP, we found that the plant immune response was already mounted at 12-18 h post-inoculation, and that Arabidopsis resistance to these fungi correlated with the time course of spore germination and hyphal growth on the leaf surface. The virulence of a subset of the PcBMM T-DNA insertional transformants was determined in Arabidopsis wild-type plants and agb1-1 mutant, and several transformants were identified that showed altered virulence in these genotypes in comparison with that of untransformed PcBMM. The T-DNA flanking regions in these fungal mutants were successfully sequenced, further supporting the utility of these functional genomics tools in the molecular characterization of the pathogenicity of necrotrophic fungi.

Abstract
Plant resistance to necrotrophic fungi is regulated by a complex set of signaling pathways that includes those mediated by the hormones salicylic acid (SA), ethylene (ET), jasmonic acid (JA), and abscisic acid (ABA). The role of ABA in plant resistance remains controversial, as positive and negative regulatory functions have been described depending on the plant-pathogen interaction analyzed. Here, we show that ABA signaling negatively regulates Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) resistance to the necrotrophic fungus Plectosphaerella cucumerina. Arabidopsis plants impaired in ABA biosynthesis, such as the aba1-6 mutant, or in ABA signaling, like the quadruple pyr/pyl mutant (pyr1pyl1pyl2pyl4), were more resistant to P. cucumerina than wild-type plants. In contrast, the hab1-1abi1-2abi2-2 mutant impaired in three phosphatases that negatively regulate ABA signaling displayed an enhanced susceptibility phenotype to this fungus. Comparative transcriptomic analyses of aba1-6 and wild-type plants revealed that the ABA pathway negatively regulates defense genes, many of which are controlled by the SA, JA, or ET pathway. In line with these data, we found that aba1-6 resistance to P. cucumerina was partially compromised when the SA, JA, or ET pathway was disrupted in this mutant. Additionally, in the aba1-6 plants, some genes encoding cell wall-related proteins were misregulated. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and biochemical analyses of cell walls from aba1-6 and wild-type plants revealed significant differences in their Fourier transform infrared spectratypes and uronic acid and cellulose contents. All these data suggest that ABA signaling has a complex function in Arabidopsis basal resistance, negatively regulating SA/JA/ET-mediated resistance to necrotrophic fungi.

Abstract
Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. phaseoli strains isolated from runner bean plants showing Fusarium wilt symptoms were characterized. The analysis of the genetic diversity of these strains and the comparison with strains formerly isolated from diseased common bean plants grown in the same region of Spain indicated a close genetic similarity among them. Pathogenicity assays carried out on runner bean plants showed virulence differences that allowed the classification of these strains into three groups: super virulent, highly virulent, and weakly virulent. However, all the analyzed strains behaved as highly virulent when inoculated on common bean plants, indicating that virulence is specific of the host-pathogen interaction. We also analyzed the number of copies and expression of the gene encoding the transcription factor ftf1, which has been shown to be specific of virulent F. oxysporum strains and highly up-regulated during plant infection. In planta real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction expression analysis showed that expression of ftf1 was correlated with the degree of virulence. The comparative analysis of the polymorphic copies of ftf1 detected in the strains here characterized and those detected in the genome sequence of F. oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici strain 4287 indicates that some of the copies are likely nonfunctional.

Abstract
A defence pathway contributing to non-host resistance to biotrophic fungi in Arabidopsis involves the synthesis and targeted delivery of the tryptophan (trp)-derived metabolites indol glucosinolates (IGs) and camalexin at pathogen contact sites. We have examined whether these metabolites are also rate-limiting for colonization by necrotrophic fungi. Inoculation of Arabidopsis with adapted or non-adapted isolates of the ascomycete Plectosphaerella cucumerina triggers the accumulation of trp-derived metabolites. We found that their depletion in cyp79B2 cyp79B3 mutants renders Arabidopsis fully susceptible to each of three tested non-adapted P. cucumerina isolates, and super-susceptible to an adapted P. cucumerina isolate. This assigns a key role to trp-derived secondary metabolites in limiting the growth of both non-adapted and adapted necrotrophic fungi. However, 4-methoxy-indol-3-ylmethylglucosinolate, which is generated by the P450 monooxygenase CYP81F2, and hydrolyzed by PEN2 myrosinase, together with the antimicrobial camalexin play a minor role in restricting the growth of the non-adapted necrotrophs. This contrasts with a major role of these two trp-derived phytochemicals in limiting invasive growth of non-adapted biotrophic powdery mildew fungi, thereby implying the existence of other unknown trp-derived metabolites in resistance responses to non-adapted necrotrophic P. cucumerina. Impaired defence to non-adapted P. cucumerina, but not to the non-adapted biotrophic fungus Erysiphe pisi, on cyp79B2 cyp79B3 plants is largely restored in the irx1 background, which shows a constitutive accumulation of antimicrobial peptides. Our findings imply differential contributions of antimicrobials in non-host resistance to necrotrophic and biotrophic pathogens.

Abstract
HIV-HCV-HBV-coinfected patients were assessed to characterize the viral interactions in the setting of HIV coinfection and in the HAART era. All positive anti-HCV antibody and HBs antigen-positive HIV-infected patients were identified at five HIV clinics. Antihepatitis delta (HDV) antibody, serum HIV RNA, HCV RNA, and HBV DNA quantification and genotype determinations were performed. Out of 67 patients identified 47 (70%) were receiving anti-HBV therapy. HCV RNA and HBV DNA were detectable in 52.5% and 37% of patients, respectively. All possible patterns were found, regardless of anti-HBV therapy. HDV coinfection was associated with undetectable HCV RNA [RR 9.52 (95% CI 1.85-49.01); p = 0.007]. Independent factors predicting undetectable HBV DNA lacked HBeAg [RR 13.94 (95% CI 3.05-63.72); p = 0.001] and use of anti-HBV therapy [RR 11.42 (95% CI 2.43-53.54); p = 0.002]. Replication and genotypes of HCV or HBV had no impact on the replication of the other virus. In conclusion, in this cohort of triple infection (HBV/HCV/HIV) various viral patterns were identified. Spontaneous HCV clearance was frequent, and it was independently associated with HDV coinfection. In the absence of HBV therapy, HBV most often actively replicates. HBV/HCV replication or genotypes were not related to the replication of the other virus.

Abstract
In plants, resistance to necrotrophic pathogens depends on the interplay between different hormone systems, such as those regulated by salicylic acid (SA), jasmonic acid (JA), ethylene, and abscisic acid. Repression of auxin signaling by the SA pathway was recently shown to contribute to antibacterial resistance. Here, we demonstrate that Arabidopsis auxin signaling mutants axr1, axr2, and axr6 that have defects in the auxin-stimulated SCF (Skp1-Cullin-F-box) ubiquitination pathway exhibit increased susceptibility to the necrotrophic fungi Plectosphaerella cucumerina and Botrytis cinerea. Also, stabilization of the auxin transcriptional repressor AXR3 that is normally targeted for removal by the SCF-ubiquitin/proteasome machinery occurs upon P. cucumerina infection. Pharmacological inhibition of auxin transport or proteasome function each compromise necrotroph resistance of wild-type plants to a similar extent as in non-treated auxin response mutants. These results suggest that auxin signaling is important for resistance to the necrotrophic fungi P. cucumerina and B. cinerea. SGT1b (one of two Arabidopsis SGT1 genes encoding HSP90/HSC70 co-chaperones) promotes the functions of SCF E3-ubiquitin ligase complexes in auxin and JA responses and resistance conditioned by certain Resistance (R) genes to biotrophic pathogens. We find that sgt1b mutants are as resistant to P. cucumerina as wild-type plants. Conversely, auxin/SCF signaling mutants are uncompromised in RPP4-triggered resistance to the obligate biotrophic oomycete, Hyaloperonospora parasitica. Thus, the predominant action of SGT1b in R gene-conditioned resistance to oomycetes appears to be at a site other than assisting SCF E3-ubiquitin ligases. However, genetic additivity of sgt1b axr1 double mutants in susceptibility to H. parasitica suggests that SCF-mediated ubiquitination contributes to limiting biotrophic pathogen colonization once plant-pathogen compatibility is established.

Abstract
We report the isolation and analysis of the gene encoding ftf1 (Fusarium transcription factor 1), a previously undescribed putative transcription factor from highly virulent strains of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. phaseoli that is transcribed specifically during early stages of infection of its host common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). The predicted 1080 amino acid ftf1 protein contains a Zn(II)2-Cys6 binuclear cluster DNA-binding motif. ftf1 expression during axenic growth in culture was not detected by either Northern or RT-PCR. On the contrary, in planta transcription of ftf1 is increased about 24h after plant inoculation, as detected by real-time RT-PCR. This result suggests that ftf1 has a role in the establishment of the fungus within the plant and/or the progress of the disease. Multiple copies of ftf1 are present in highly virulent strains of F. oxysporum f.sp. phaseoli.

Abstract
The response to hepatitis C virus (HCV) therapy seems to be lower in HCV/HIV-coinfected patients than in HCV-monoinfected individuals. Given that most pivotal trials conducted in coinfected patients have used the combination of pegylated interferon (pegIFN) along with fixed low doses (800 mg/day) of ribavirin (RBV), it is unclear whether HIV itself and/or suboptimal RBV exposure could explain this poorer outcome. Two well-defined end points of early virological response were evaluated in Peginterferon Ribavirina España Coinfección (PRESCO), a multicentre trial in which the combination of pegIFN plus RBV (1000 mg if body weight <75 kg and 1200 mg if >75 kg) was prescribed to coinfected patients. For comparisons, we used unpublished data from early kinetics in two other large trials, one performed in HIV-negative patients [Pegasys International Study Group (PISG)] in which RBV 1000-1200 mg/day was used and another [AIDS Pegasys Ribavirin Coinfection Trial (APRICOT)] in which HIV-positive patients received fixed low RBV doses (800 mg/day). A total of 348 HCV/HIV-coinfected patients from the PRESCO trial were analysed as well as all patients treated with pegIFN plus RBV, who completed 12 weeks of therapy in the comparative studies (435 in PISG and 268 in APRICOT). Negative serum HCV-RNA at week 4 (which has the highest positive predictive value of sustained virological response, SVR) was attained in 33.3%, 31.2% and 13% of treated patients with HCV genotype 1, respectively, in PRESCO, PISG and APRICOT. For HCV genotypes 2/3, responses were 83.7%, 84.2% and 37%, respectively. A decline lower than 2 log(10) at week 12 (which has the highest negative predictive value of SVR) was seen in 25.5%, 19.5% and 37% of HCV genotype-1-infected patients, and in 2.1%, 2.9% and 12% of genotypes-2/3-infected patients, respectively. Prescription of high RBV doses enhances the early virological response to HCV therapy in HCV/HIV-coinfected patients, with results approaching those seen in HCV-monoinfected patients.

Abstract
During the last years there has been an important advance in the knowledge of chronic kidney disease (CKD). In order to adapt our clinical practice to these new data, a protocol of management of CKD between Nephrology and Primary Health Care has been developed. The protocol includes several items like cardiac and renal protection strategies, diagnosis and treatment of complications, use of drugs and clear derivation criteria. Implementation of the protocol has been only partial and has implied, for the Renal Unit, an increase in the number of patients,specially the oldest ones, but a clear improve in the quality of the information too,and a first positive step in the right way to face the challenge of CKD. In view of analysed data we propose some modifications for the protocol.

Abstract
The cell cycle stage of donor cells is an important factor influencing developmental ability of nuclear transfer embryos. In the present experiment, cumulus and fibroblast cells of cattle were subjected to flow cytometric cell cycle analysis before being used in somatic cloning experiments. The following experimental groups were analyzed for each cell type: (1) actively dividing cells, (2) cells confluent for 4 days, (3) cells starved for 1, 2, 3 or 5 days. Using the propidium iodide flow cytometric assay, there were no significant differences (P > or = 0.05) in the percentage of cells in G0/G1 regardless of origin and type of cell, after confluency or serum starvation. Differences with the growing cells were found (P < or = 0.01). To determine what subset of cells in G0/G1 were in the G0 subphase of the cell cycle, an immunofluorescence analysis was conducted using monoclonal anti-PCNA antibodies in a FACS assay. There were not statistically significant differences in the percentage of cells that enter G0, between confluent and any starved group for either type of cells. Bovine fibroblast cells, confluent or serum starved for 3 days, were used in nuclear transfer experiments. A slight trend for a more desirable fusion rate in starved cells was detected, and embryo cleavage was greater in starved cells, however, in vitro development to blastocysts was similar between groups. Data indicate that prolonged culture of cells in the absence of serum does not imply a shift in the percentage of cells that enter G0/G1 or G0 alone, and that confluency is sufficient to induce quiescence. This finding can be beneficial in nuclear transfer programs, because there are negative effects such as apoptosis, associated with serum starvation.

Abstract
A screening for plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) was carried out in the mycorrhizosphere of wild populations of Pinus pinea and P. pinaster, and in the mycosphere of associated Lactarius deliciosus. A total of 720 bacteria were isolated, purified, and grouped by morphological criteria. Fifty percent of the isolates were selected and tested for aminocyclopropanecarboxylic acid (ACC) degradation, auxin and siderophore production, and phosphate solubilization. Thirty eight percent of the isolates showed at least one of the evaluated activities. Nutrient-related traits were associated with P. pinaster, whereas hormone production traits predominated in P. pinea. These activities were found mostly in Gram positive isolates. After PCR-RAPDs (random amplified polymorphic DNA) analysis, 10 groups appeared with 85% similiarity when considering all isolates, indicating the low diversity in the system. One strain of each group was identified by 16S rDNA sequencing. Our results suggest that P. pinaster selects for mycorrhizosphere bacteria that mobilize nutrients, whereas P. pinea selects for bacteria that have the capacity to increase root growth via production of plant growth regulators.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to confirm whether patients undergoing dialysis and treated with vancomycin 1 g/week or 500 mg/48 hours reach optimum plasma levels (10-25 mcg/ml). METHOD Thirty two patients were included with a total number of 34 infectious events. The most commonly used dose was 1 g/week (67.6% of infectious events), versus 500 mg/48 hours (32.4%). Low ultrafiltration membranes were used more frequently (64.7%) than high ultrafiltration membranes (35.3%).Vancomycin was infused over an one-hour period during the last hour of the hemodialysis session and plasma samples were drawn prior to the beginning of the session. Samples were analyzed using fluorescent polarization immunoassays. RESULTS Mean concentration results for the total population did not reach optimum values (10-25 mg/ml). In the group receiving 500 mg/48 hours, optimum mean values were not reached in any of the determinations, whereas in the group receiving 1 g/week, optimum values were reached in the fourth determination. Mean plasma levels of the antibiotic were below optimum values, regardless the type of membrane used, either low or high ultrafiltration. CONCLUSIONS Based on the above results, we recommend titration of the vancomycin dose in this group of patients and the administration of a loading dose of 20 mg/kg during the last hour of the hemodialysis session, followed by a maintenance dose of 7 mg/kg after each session, as well as the monitoring of the drug levels in this group of patients.
