Abstract
Objective: This study is to investigate the relationship between time in range (TIR) and glucose management indicator (GMI), and the impact of glycemic variability (GV) on their relationship in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Methods: The CGM data were collected from a multicenter randomized clinical trial of adults (≥18 years old) with T1DM, including 83 T1DM patients, respectively from the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (72 cases), Drum Tower Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing University School of Medicine (2 cases), and the First Affiliated Hospital of University of Science and Technology of China (9 cases). All subjects wore the iProTM2 system for 14 days at baseline (0-2 weeks), 3 months (12-14 weeks), and 6 months (24-26 weeks). Data derived from iProTM2 sensor was used to calculate CGM parameters. Correlation between TIR and GMI was explored according to different stratification of glycemic variability assessed by glucose coefficient of variation (CV). Predicted TIR in the fixed GMI value was calculated via the linear regression equations performed in the respective interquartile group of CV. Results: From November 2017 to June 2021, a total of 233 CGM data were collected with 83 collected from baseline, 80 from the 3-month follow-up, 70 from the 6-month follow-up. Patients including 27 males had a median (Q1, Q3) age of 30.69 (25.22, 38.43) years, with a diabetes duration of 10.05(4.46, 13.92) years. The median (Q1, Q3) and effective wearing time of available CGM data was 13.92 (13.02, 14.00) days and 91.61% (84.96%, 95.94%), and the value of TIR, GMI and CV was 60.34%±13.03%, 7.14%±0.61% and 41.01%±7.64%, respectively. There was a strong negative correlation between TIR and GMI (r=-0.822, P<0.001). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the predictive value of TIR calculated from a given GMI was 8.352% higher when CV was up to standard (36%) than that when CV was down to standard. Based on the multiple linear regression equations generated from quartiles of CV, the predicted TIR value was decreased across the ascending quartiles with 69.98 % in the lowest quartile of CV (≤35.91%), 64.57 % in 25th-50th quartile of CV (35.91%<CV≤40.08%), 60.96% in 50th-75th quartile of CV (40.08%<CV≤45.86%) and 56.44% in the highest quartile of CV (>75th quartile, CV>45.86%) when GMI was set as 7%. Conclusions: There is a strong correlation between TIR and GMI in adult patients with T1DM in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus. CV influenced the relationship between TIR and GMI.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical features of infertile women with non-classic 21-hydroxylase deficiency (21-OHD). Methods: The study enrolled 21 infertile women with non-classic 21-OHD in Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from January 2009 to December 2018. The clinical presentation, endocrine hormone, glucolipid metabolism and treatment outcome were retrospectively analyzed. The diagnosis of non-classic 21-OHD was comprehensively based on clinical and hormonal characteristics. Results: Among 21 cases, the age was (29.9±2.9) years, the mean age at menarche was (13.6±2.0) years, body mass index was (22.1±2.9) kg/m2, and 38% (8/21) had oligomenorrhea. Hirsutism was diagnosed in 3 cases (14%, 3/21). Clitoromegaly was seen in 14% (3/21) and polycystic ovarian morphology was found in 33% (7/21) of the patients. The mean serum level of basal progesterone was (11.3±21.0) nmol/L, with 48% (10/21) having high basal progesterone level; after therapy by glucocorticoid, the level of progesterone was (1.9±2.0) nmol/L. Serum 17-hydroxyprogesterone concentration was (66.4±123.6) nmol/L; after therapy by glucocorticoid, it was (2.4±1.8) nmol/L. In the study increased testosterone, androstenedione and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate were present in 62% (13/21), 52% (11/21) and 43% (9/21), respectively; and 52% (11/21) of patients manifested androgen excess and basal progesterone elevation; androgen levels decreased after therapy by glucocorticoid. The pregnancy rate was 76% (16/21). Out of 19 pregnancies, 6/19 ended in spontaneous miscarriages. Conclusions: Infertile women with non-classic 21-OHD are characterized by hyperandrogenism and basal progesterone elevation, whereas gonad axis disorder is not apparent. After no response to conventional therapy, adult infertile women with non-classic 21-OHD could achieve a desirable pregnancy outcome with proper treatment of glucocorticoid.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate related factors for microalbuminuria in adult type 1 diabetes (T1D) patients of short disease duration (less than 5 years), and provide evidence for prevention of early diabetic kidney disease in this population. Methods: All adult patients enrolled in the Guangdong T1D translational medicine study between 2011 and 2017 with a disease duration of less than 5 years were included in this analysis. At enrollment, patients' demographic and clinical data were documented, and blood and urine samples were collected for the measurements of blood lipids, glycated hemoglobin A1c and urine albuminuria. Insulin resistance was evaluated by estimated glucose disposal rate (eGDR). Patients were categorized into groups based on urine albumin creatitine ratio (UACR): normoalbuminuric group (UACR<30 mg/g) and microalbuminuric group (UACR≥30 mg/g). Stepwise multivariate linear regression analysis was used to analyze risk factors for microalbuminuria in adult T1D patients of short disease duration. Results: A total of 384 patients were included in this analysis, and 51.3% (197/384) of which was female. The onset age of patients was (24.6±12.5) years, with a disease duration of 2.1(0.6, 3.5) years, body mass index of (19.8±3.2) kg/m(2), waist hip ratio of 0.85±0.21, and glycated hemoglobin A1c of (9.8±3.3)% at enrollment. Microalbuminuria occurred in 62 patients (16.1%). Multivariate linear analysis showed that higher glycated hemoglobin A1c, higher systolic blood pressure and more severe insulin resistance were related factors for microalbuminuria (t=2.322, 2.868 and -2.373, respectively, all P<0.05). Conclusions: Microalbuminuria was not rare in adult T1D patients of short disease duration. Inadequate glycemic control and insulin resistance were independent related factors for microalbuminuria in this population.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the effect of mobile application (APP) based interactive peer support on glycemic control in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Methods: The data of the present study were from the largest mobile APP platform for patients with T1DM in China, Tangtangquan. Patients with T1DM who has registered in the APP for at least 1 year and had completed data entry were recruited. According to the monthly interaction index during the first year of APP registration (including four indicators: praise, comment, posting and collection), the eligible patients were divided into the high-interaction group and the low-interaction group. The changes from baseline of self-blood glucose monitoring frequency (SMBG), glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), incidence of hyperglycemia and incidence of hypoglycemia were compared between the two groups after one year of using the APP. Results: A total of 238 patients with T1DM with an age of (27±8) years were included. Among them, 77.3% (184/238) were female. The baseline SMBG [the low-interaction group (1.71±1.14) times/day vs. the high-interaction group (1.82±1.15) times/day] and HbA1c [the low-interaction group (6.72±0.99)% vs. the high-interaction group (6.76±1.04)%] were comparable between the two groups. After one year use of the APP, the frequency of SMBG in the high-interaction group was significantly higher than that in the low-interaction group [ΔSMBG (0.59+2.06) times/d vs. (0.08+1.69) times/d, t=4.280, P=0.04), and the reduction of HbA1c was more obvious in the high-interaction group [ΔHbA1c (-0.40+1.10)% vs. (-0.06+1.13)%, t=5.651, P=0.018] than in the lower-interaction group. The incidence of hyperglycemia in the high-interaction group was significantly lower than that in the low-interaction group [13.19(6.22,23.19)% vs. 17.69(10.56,30.49)%, Z=2.850, P=0.005]. There was no significant difference in the incidence of hypoglycemia between the two groups [4.62(2.14, 8.03)% vs. 4.83(2.06, 8.87)%, Z=1.276, P=0.204]. The correlation analysis showed that interaction index was significantly associated with the reduction of HbA1c and incidence of hyperglycemia. Conclusion: Participation in interactive peer education via mobile APP may be beneficent for glycemic control in patients with T1DM.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the awareness of preconception care among women of child-bearing age with type 1 diabetes (T1DM) and their self-management status, in order to provide evidence for establishment of management pathway for women with T1DM in pregnancy in China. Methods: This cross-sectional survey recruited female participants of child-bearing age from the cohort of Guangdong Type 1 Diabetes Translational Medicine Study conducted between June 2011 and December 2017. The participants were asked to fill out a questionnaire on the awareness of preconception care, their frequency of self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) and other related variables. Chi-squared test or chi-squared test for trend was used in comparisons of categorical variables, and logistic regression analysis was performed to assess associated factors. Results: Totally, 441 women of child-bearing age with T1DM were investigated. The results show that their awareness of preconception care was poor (15.42%, 68/441). Higher educational level (χ(2trend)=3.990, P=0.046), experience of post-diabetes education evaluation (P<0.001), and better coverage of different modules in diabetes education (survival skills: χ(2)=7.525, P=0.004; basic knowledge: χ(2)=8.598, P=0.002; advanced knowledge: P<0.001) were associated with better awareness of preconception care. The average frequency of SMBG in these participants was 0.29 (0.14, 2.00) times per day, and only 8.5% (37/435) of them reached the frequency (≥4 times per day) recommended by guidelines. Moreover, 21.1% (92/435) of them hardly ever performed SMBG. Conclusion: Child-bearing age women with T1DM in Gunangdong had poor awareness of preconception care, with a much lower SMBG frequency than recommendation.

Abstract
Objective: To describe the clinical characteristics and classification diagnosis of newly diagnosed diabetes onset with ketosis or ketoacidosis in adult patients. Methods: Medical records of newly diagnosed diabetes onset with ketosis or ketoacidosis in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University between January 2011 and August 2016 were reviewed. Patients aged 18 years or older were included, while other diseases that may cause urinary ketoacidosis and special types of diabetes were excluded. Patients were classified as type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) or type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) or diabetes mellitus untyped based on discharged diagnosis, and groups were compared for differences in clinical profiles. Then the patient's medication, final diagnosis and outcome within 2 years of discharge were tracked through the inpatient and the outpatient medical record systems. Receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curves were analyzed to check the ability of clinical indicators such as onset age, body mass index (BMI) and C-peptide to discriminate T1DM from T2DM, and to find the best diagnostic cut-off points. Results: A total of 123 patients (88 males) were enrolled [with a mean age of (41.1±13.6) years old], with 37 patients (30.1%) diagnosed as T1DM, 60 patients (48.8%) diagnosed as T2DM and 26 patients (21.1%) diagnosed as Untyped. There was a statistically significant difference in onset age, BMI, blood pressure, blood gas pH and bicarbonate, blood lipids, fasting, 0.5 h and 2 h C-peptide level, any diabetic antibody and anti-glutamic acid decarboxylase antibody (GADA) positive rate, combined fatty liver ratio and family history among the three groups (all P<0.05). ROC curve analysis was performed on patients diagnosed with T1DM (n=36) and T2DM (n=87) after 2 years follow-up, and the area under the curve (AUC) of onset age, BMI, fasting C-peptide, 0.5 h and 2 h C-peptide was 0.735, 0.813, 0.855, 0.898, and 0.882, respectively. Conclusion: The ROC curve analysis indicates that C-peptide, onset age and BMI can provide effective diagnostic value, and the diagnostic value of C peptide is better than BMI and onset age.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The present study attempted to identify potential key genes and miRNAs of dyslipidemia in obese, and to investigate the possible mechanisms associated with them. METHODS The microarray data of GSE66676 were downloaded, including 67 obese samples from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. The weighted gene co-expression network (WGCNA) analysis was performed using WGCNA package and grey60 module was considered as the highest correlation. Gene Ontology annotation and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analyses for this module were performed by clusterProfiler and DOSE package. A protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was established using Cytoscape software, and significant modules were analyzed using molecular complex detection. RESULTS Collagen type I alpha 1 chain gene (COL1A1) had the best significant meaning. After bioinformatic analysis, we identified four miRNAs (hsa-miR-3659, hsa-miR-4658, hsa-miR151a-5p and hsa-miR-151b) which can bind SNPs in 3'UTR in COL1A1. After validation with RT-qPCR, only two miRNAs (hsa-miR-3659 and hsa-miR151a-5p) had statistical significance. CONCLUSIONS The area of 0.806 for miR-3659 and 0.769 for miR-151a-5p under the ROC curve (AUC) may have good diagnostic value for dyslipidemia. Circulating miR-3659 may be a potential biomarker of dyslipidemia in patients with obesity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIMS The present study attempted to identify the potential key genes and pathways of hyperlipidemia, and to investigate the possible mechanisms associated with them. METHODS The array data of GSE3059 were downloaded, including thirteen samples of hyperlipidemia from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. The weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was performed with WGCNA package, and the salmon and midnight blue modules were found as the highest correlation. Gene Ontology annotation and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analyses for these two modules were performed by cluster Profiler and DOSE package. A protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was established using Cytoscape software, and significant modules were analyzed using Molecular Complex Detection. RESULTS Five genes (histone deacetylase 4, HDAC4; F2R like trypsin receptor 1, F2RL1; abhydrolase domain containing 2, ABHD2; transmembrane 4 L six family member 1, TM4SF1; and family with sequence similarity 13-member A, FAM13A) were found with a significant meaning. When their expression levels were validated with RT-qPCR, the relative expression levels were lower (HDAC4) and higher (F2RL1, ABHD2, TM4SF1 and FAM13A) in hyperlipidemia than in normal controls (P < 0.05-0.01). Subgroup analysis showed that the relative expression levels of HDAC4 were lower, whereas those of F2RL1 and ABHD2 were higher in Maonan than in Han ethnic groups (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Except for genetic factors and environmental exposures, epigenetic influence was another mechanism of hyperlipidemia in our study populations, which needed to further confirm.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Maonan nationality belongs to a mountain ethnic minority in China. Little is known about the association of apolipoprotein A1 gene (APOA1) rs964184 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and serum lipid levels in this population. The aim of this study was to detect the association of the APOA1 rs964184 SNP and several environmental factors with serum lipid profiles in the Chinese Maonan and Han populations. METHODS Genotypes of the APOA1 rs964184 SNP in 867 individuals of Maonan nationality and 820 participants of Han nationality were determined by polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism, combined with gel electrophoresis, and confirmed by direct sequencing. RESULTS The frequencies of CC, CG and GG genotypes of the APOA1 rs964184 SNP were 68.86, 29.18 and 1.96% in the Maonan population, and 63.78, 30.85 and 5.37% in the Han population (P < 0.001). The frequency of the G allele was 16.55% in Maonan and 20.79% in Han (P < 0.001). The G allele carriers had lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels in Maonan and higher triglyceride (TG) levels in Han peoples than the G allele non-carriers. Subgroup analyses showed that the G allele carriers had lower HDL-C levels in both Maonan males and females; and lower apolipoprotein (Apo) A1 levels and the ApoA1/ApoB ratio in Han males than the G allele non-carriers. Serum lipid parameters in the two ethnic groups were also associated with several environmental factors. CONCLUSIONS The present study reveals that there may be a racial/ethnic- and/or gender-specific association between the APOA1 rs964184 SNP and serum lipid parameters in our study populations. Abstract
Little is known about the association of the BCL3-PVRL2-TOMM40 SNPs and dyslipidemia. This study was to detect 12 BCL3-PVRL2-TOMM40 SNPs, gene-gene and gene-environment interactions on dyslipidemia in the Chinese Maonan population. Genotyping was performed in 1130 normal and 832 dyslipidemia participants. Generalized multifactor dimensionality reduction was used to screen the best interaction combination among SNPs and environmental exposures. Allele and genotype frequencies of the detected SNPs were different between the two groups (P < 0.05-0.001). Association of the 12 SNPs and serum lipid levels was observed (P < 0.004-0.001). Multiple-locus linkage disequilibrium was not statistically independent in the population (D' = 0.01-0.98). The dominant model of rs8100239 and rs157580 SNPs, several haplotypes and G × G interaction haplotypes contributed to a protection, whereas the dominant model of rs10402271, rs3810143, rs519113, rs6859 SNPs, another haplotypes and G × G interaction haplotypes revealed an increased morbidity function (P < 0.05-0.001). There were significant three-locus model involving SNP-SNP, SNP-environment, haplotype-haplotype interactions (P < 0.05-0.001). The subjects carrying several genotypes and haplotypes decreased dyslipidemia risk, whereas the subjects carrying other genotypes and haplotypes increased dyslipidemia risk. The BCL3-PVRL2-TOMM40 SNPs, gene-gene and gene-environment interactions on dyslipidemia were observed in the Chinese Maonan population.

Abstract
Objective: Explore the value of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) in predicting pregnant outcomes of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients undergone assisted reproductive technology. Methods: The study totally recruited 1 697 patients who underwent the first in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) cycle in Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital from the January 2014 to December 2015. The patients were divided into two groups based on the age<35 (n=758) and ≥35 years old (n=939) , compare the basic data and pregnant outcomes of controlled ovarian hyerstimulation. Spearman correlation method was conducted to analyze the relations between AMH and clinical outcomes. The logistic regression method and partial correlation analysis were used to judge the main factors which determine pregnancy outcomes by controlled the confounding factors. The receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was used to evaluate the predictive sensitivity and specificity of AMH. Results: In the group of PCOS patient younger than 35 years, AMH were correlated with the number of antral follicles (r=0.388) and retrieved oocytes (r=0.235) . When the effect of total dosage and starting dosage of gonadotropin were controlled, AMH was still significantly associated with the number of retrieved oocytes (P<0.05) . AMH had no predictive value for the clinical pregnancy of PCOS patient younger than 35 years (area under ROC curve=0.481, P=0.768) . In the group of PCOS patient≥35 years old, AMH were correlated with the number of antral follicles (r=0.450) , retrieved oocytes (r=0.399) , available embryo (r=0.336) and high quality embryo (r=0.235) . When the effect of total dosage and starting dosage of gonadotropin were controlled, the correlations were still significant between those indexes (all P<0.05) . AMH had no predictive value for the clinical pregnancy of PCOS patient ≥35 years old (area under ROC curve=0.535, P=0.560) . However, the clinical pregnancy rate of the group of PCOS patient ≥35 years old was slightly higher than the control group (P=0.062) . Conclusions: AMH has no predictive value for the pregnancy outcome of PCOS patient. The pregnancy rate of PCOS patient ≥35 years old is slightly higher than the younger group, because the PCOS patient may have better ovarian reserve.

Abstract
Jing nationality is a relatively conservative and isolated minority in China. Little is known about the association of the PIN2/TERF1-interacting telomerase inhibitor 1 (PINX1) and N-acetyltransferase 2 (NAT2) single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and serum lipid levels in the Chinese populations. This study aimed to clarify the association of 6 SNPs of the PINX1 and NAT2 and serum lipid levels in two Chinese populations. Genotyping of the SNPs was performed in 1236 Han subjects and 1248 Jing participants. Allelic and genotypic frequencies of these variants (except NAT2 rs1799931) were different between the two ethnic groups. The minor allele carriers had higher triglyceride (TG, rs11776767, rs1495743 and rs1799930), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (rs6601530) levels and the apolipoprotein (Apo)A1/ApoB ratio (rs1495743) in Han nationality; and higher total cholesterol (rs1961456), TG (rs11776767, rs6601530 and rs1495743) and lower ApoA1 (rs6601530 and rs1799931) levels in Jing minority than the minor allele non-carriers. The SNPs were not statistically independent by the multiple-locus linkage disequilibrium analyses. The integrative haplotypes and gene-by-gene (G × G) interactions on serum lipid traits were also observed in the two populations. Association analysis based on haplotypes and G × G interactions might be powerful than single-locus tests. Differences in serum lipid profiles between the two populations might partially be attributed to these SNPs, their haplotypes and G × G interactions.

Abstract
Maonan ethnic group is a relatively conservative and isolated minority in China. Little is known about the association of the mevalonate kinase (MVK), methylmalonic aciduria (cobalamin deficiency) cblB type (MMAB) single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and serum lipid levels. This study aimed to determine the association between four SNPs in the MVK/MMAB and serum lipid levels. Genotyping of the rs3759387, rs877710, rs7134594 and rs9593 SNPs was performed in 1264 Maonan subjects and 1251 Han participants. Allele and genotype frequencies of the selected SNPs were different between the two populations (P < 0.05-0.001). Four SNPs were associated with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) in the both ethnic groups (P < 0.0125-0.001); and one SNP with apolipoprotein (Apo) A1 (rs7134594) in Han Chinese (P <0.0125). Strong linkage disequilibria were noted among the SNPs (D'=0.63-0.96; r2 =0.13-0.88). The commonest haplotype was C-C-C-T (> 50%). The frequencies of C-C-C-T, C-G-T-A, A-G-T-A, C-G-C-T, and A-C-T-A were different between the two populations (P <0.001). The associations between haplotypes and dyslipidemia were different in the Han and/or Maonan population (P < 0.05-0.001), haplotypes could explain much more serum lipid variation than any single SNP alone especially for HDL-C. Differences in lipid profiles between the two populations might partially attribute to these SNPs and their haplotypes.

Abstract
Objective: To describe the insulin regimens and their associations with glycemic control and to explore factors associated with intensive insulin therapy. Methods: Patients with type 1 diabetes (T1DM) were recruited from Guangdong Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus Translational Medicine Study which was conducted in 16 centers in Guangdong province. The demographic and clinical data were collected. Patients were grouped according to different insulin regimens: insulin pump (R1), basal insulin plus regular insulin or short-acting insulin (R2), insulin injection 1-3 times per day (R3). Distribution of insulin regimens and the relationships between insulin regimens and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) were described. Multivariate logistic regression was used to identify factors associated with intensive insulin therapy. Results: A total of 1 421 patients with the age of 27.8 (19.4, 38.3) years and a duration of T1DM of 3.3 (0.5, 7.1) years were recruited. There was 12.3% of patients in R1 (n=175), 35.5% in R2 (n=504), and 52.2% in R3 (n=742), respectively. HbA1c was 8.0 (6.8, 9.3)%, 8.9 (7.1, 11.8)%, and 9.2 (7.5, 11.4)% in R1, R2, R3, respectively, and it was associated with insulin regimens (P<0.001). HbA1c target rate was 32.3%, 21.1%, 17.8% in R1, R2, R3, respectively (P=0.002). Older age (OR=1.01, P=0.027), higher education level (college or above) (OR=1.56, P=0.003), and higher household income (>30 000 yuan per year per person)(OR=1.45, P=0.009) were associated with intensive insulin therapy in adult patients. Conclusions: The study suggested that insulin therapy need to be optimized in patients with T1DM. The optimization of insulin regimens and diabetes education may be helpful for improvement of glycemic control.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Little is known about the association of the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of rs364585 near serine palmitoyl-transferase long-chain base subunit 3 gene (SPTLC3) and serum lipid profiles. The present study was detected the association of the SPTLC3 rs364585 SNP and several environmental factors with serum lipid profiles in the Han and Jing populations. METHODS Genotyping of the SPTLC3 rs364585 SNP was performed in 824 unrelated individuals of Han and 783 participants of Jing by polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism combined with gel electrophoresis, and then confirmed by direct sequencing. RESULTS There was no significant difference in either genotypic or allelic frequencies between Han and Jing, or between males and females of the both ethnic groups. The levels of serum low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and the ratio of apolipoprotein (Apo) A1 to ApoB in Han; and total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and LDL-C in Jing were different between the A allele carriers and the A allele non-carriers (P < 0.05-0.001). Subgroup analysis according to sex showed that the levels of LDL-C in Han males; TC and LDL-C in Jing males; and HDL-C and LDL-C in Jing females were different between the A allele carriers and the A allele non-carriers (P < 0.05-0.001), the A allele carriers had higher LDL-C and TC levels, and lower HDL-C levels than the A allele non-carriers. Serum lipid traits were also associated with several environmental factors in the Han and Jing populations, or in males and females of the both ethnic groups. CONCLUSIONS The present study demonstrates the association between the SPTLC3 rs364585 SNP and serum TC, HDL-C and LDL-C levels in our study populations. These associations might have ethnic- and/or sex-specificity. TRIAL REGISTRATION Retrospectively registered.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE *These authors contributed equally to this work. At present, they work at the Hezhou People's Hospital, Hezhou, China.To retrospectively compare differences in the prevalence of hypertension and associated risk factors between the Chinese Jing and Mulao populations. METHODS Subjects of Jing and Mulao ethnicities were surveyed using stratified randomized sampling. Demography, diet and lifestyle data were collected using standardized questionnaires. Several anthropometric parameters, blood pressure (BP) levels and serum lipid concentrations were obtained. RESULTS Data from 915 Jing and 911 Mulao subjects aged ≥ 35 years were included. Diastolic BP levels and prevalence of hypertension were lower, but prevalence of isolated systolic hypertension was higher, in the Jing compared with the Mulao population. Prevalence of hypertension in the age 60-69 years, body mass index (BMI) > 24 kg/m(2), and smoker subgroups was lower in the Jing compared with the Mulao populations. Prevalence of hypertension correlated with age, cigarette smoking, triglyceride level, waist circumference, sodium intake and total dietary fibre in the Jing population; hypertension prevalence also correlated with age, triglyceride level, BMI, total fat, sodium intake and total dietary fibre in the Mulao population (unconditional logistic regression analyses). CONCLUSIONS Prevalence of hypertension and associated risk factors were different between the two ethnic minorities, which might result from the combined effects of differences in their geographic, dietary, lifestyle, and genetic backgrounds.

Abstract
This study aimed to detect the interactions of several single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and alcohol consumption on blood pressure levels. Genotypes of 10 SNPs in the ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA-1), acyl-CoA:cholesterol acyltransferase-1 (ACAT-1), low density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR), hepatic lipase gene (LIPC), endothelial lipase gene (LIPG), methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR), the E3 ubiquitin ligase myosin regulatory light chain-interacting protein (MYLIP), proprotein convertase subtilisin-like kexin type 9 (PCSK9), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor delta (PPARD), and Scavenger receptor class B type 1 (SCARB1) genes were determined in 616 nondrinkers and 608 drinkers. The genotypic frequencies of LDLR rs5925, LIPC rs2070895, MTHFR rs1801133, and MYLIP rs3757354 SNPs were significantly different between nondrinkers and drinkers. The levels of systolic blood pressure (ABCA-1 rs2066715 and rs2070895), diastolic blood pressure (rs2070895), and pulse pressure (PP) (rs2066715, ACAT-1 rs1044925, and rs1801133) in nondrinkers, and systolic blood pressure (rs1044925 and SCARB1 rs5888), diastolic blood pressure (rs1044925 and LIPG rs2000813), and PP (PCSK9 rs505151 and rs5888) in drinkers were different among the genotypes (P < 0.005-0.001). The interactions of several SNPs and alcohol consumption on systolic blood pressure (rs2066715, rs1044925, rs5925, rs2070895, rs1801133, rs3757354, PPARD rs2016520, and rs5888), diastolic blood pressure (rs2066715, rs1044925, rs5925, rs2000813, rs3757354, and rs2016520), and PP (rs1044925, rs2070895, rs1801133, rs3757354, rs505151, and rs5888) were observed (P < 0.005-0.001). The differences in blood pressure levels between the nondrinkers and drinkers might be partially attributed to the interactions of these SNPs and alcohol consumption.

Abstract
We report a large but asymmetric magnetoresistance in silicon p-n junctions, which contrasts with the fact of magnetoresistance being symmetric in magnetic metals and semiconductors. With temperature decreasing from 293 K to 100 K, the magnetoresistance sharply increases from 50% to 150% under a magnetic field of 2 T. At the same time, an asymmetric magnetoresistance, which manifests itself as a magnetoresistance voltage offset with respect to the sign of magnetic field, occurs and linearly increases with magnetoresistance. More interestingly, in contrast with other materials, the lineshape of anisotropic magnetoresistance in silicon p-n junctions significantly depends on temperature. As temperature decreases from 293 K to 100 K, the width of peak shrinks from 90° to 70°. We ascribe these novel magnetoresistance to the asymmetric geometry of the space charge region in p-n junction induced by the magnetic field. In the vicinity of the space charge region the current paths are deflected, contributing the Hall field to the asymmetric magnetoresistance. Therefore, the observed temperature-dependent asymmetry of magnetoresistance is proved to be a direct consequence of the spatial configuration evolution of space charge region with temperature.

Abstract
The objective of the present study was to detect the association of the Trp316Ser variant (rs1801690) near the apolipoprotein H (β2-glycoprotein-I) gene and serum lipid levels in the Mulao and Han populations. A total of 879 subjects of Mulao and 844 subjects of Han Chinese were included. The levels of serum total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and ApoA1 in Mulao, and triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), ApoA1 and the ratio of ApoA1/ApoB in Han were different among the three genotypes of the rs1801690 SNP (P < 0.05-0.01). Subgroup analyses showed that the levels of TC, TG, LDL-C, and ApoA1 in Mulao males; ApoA1 in Mulao females; TC, TG, HDL-C and ApoB and the ApoA1/ApoB ratio in Han males; and HDL-C, ApoA1 and the ApoA1/ApoB ratio in Han females were associated with the genotypes of rs1801690 (P < 0.05-0.001). Serum lipid parameters were also associated with several environmental factors (P < 0.05-0.001). The Trp316Ser variant (rs1801690) near the apolipoprotein H (β2-glycoprotein-I) gene was associated with some serum lipid parameters in the two ethnic groups, but the trends of association suggest that the Trp316Ser variant (rs1801690) near the apolipoprotein H (β2-glycoprotein-I) gene might have racial/ethnic-and/or gender-specificity.

Abstract
Cytoplasmic poly(A) binding protein 4 (PABPC4) is an RNA-processing protein which has an important role in regulating gene expression. The association of the PABPC4 rs4660293 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and serum lipid profiles has, to the best of our knowledge, not previously been studied in the Chinese population. The present study aimed to investigate the association between the PABPC4 rs4660293 SNP and several environmental factors with serum lipid levels in the Mulao and Han populations. A total of 727 individuals of Mulao nationality and 729 individuals of Han nationality were randomly selected from stratified randomized samples from a previous study by our group. Genotypes of the PABPC4 rs4660293 SNP were determined via polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism analyses and subsequently confirmed by direct sequencing. Serum levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and apolipoprotein (Apo) B were higher in the Mulao group than those in the Han group (P<0.01 for each). The genotypic and allelic frequencies of the PABPC4 rs4660293 SNP were significantly different between males and females in the Mulao population (P<0.05 for each), while no significant difference was detected between those of males and females amongst the Han population. The frequency of the G allele was higher in Mulao males than in Mulao females (22.12 vs. 13.44%). The G allele carriers were found to have higher total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and ApoAI levels in Han females but not in Han males, and lower TC and HDL-C levels in Mulao females but not in Mulao males than those of the G allele non-carriers (P<0.05 for all). These associations were confirmed by multiple linear regression analysis (P<0.05–0.001). Serum lipid parameters were also correlated with multiple environmental factors (P<0.05–0.001). The PABPC4 rs4660293 SNP was associated with serum TC, HDL-C, LDL-C and ApoAI levels in these study populations; however, the association varied between the Mulao and Han populations. A gender-specific association was identified in the populations of the two ethnic groups.

Abstract
An ideal semiconducting material should simultaneously hold a considerable direct band gap and a high carrier mobility. A 2D planar compound consisting of zigzag chains of C-C and B-N atoms, denoted as BC2N, would be a good candidate. It has a direct band gap of 2 eV, which can be further tuned by changing the layer number. At the same time, our first-principles calculations show that few-layer BC2N possesses a high carrier mobility. The carrier mobility of around one million sqaure centimeters per volt-second is obtained at its three-layer. As our study demonstrated, few-layer BC2N has potential applications in nanoelectronics and optoelectronics.

Abstract
Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has become the most common revascularization procedure for coronary artery disease. The use of stents has reduced the rate of restenosis by preventing elastic recoil and negative remodeling. However, in-stent restenosis remains one of the major drawbacks of this procedure. Drug-eluting stents (DESs) have proven to be effective in reducing the risk of late restenosis, but the use of currently marketed DESs presents safety concerns, including the non-specificity of therapeutics, incomplete endothelialization leading to late thrombosis, the need for long-term anti-platelet agents, and local hypersensitivity to polymer delivery matrices. In addition, the current DESs lack the capacity for adjustment of the drug dose and release kinetics appropriate to the disease status of the treated vessel. The development of efficacious therapeutic strategies to prevent and inhibit restenosis after PCI is critical for the treatment of coronary artery disease. The administration of drugs using biodegradable polymer nanoparticles as carriers has generated immense interest due to their excellent biocompatibility and ability to facilitate prolonged drug release. Despite the potential benefits of nanoparticles as smart drug delivery and diagnostic systems, much research is still required to evaluate potential toxicity issues related to the chemical properties of nanoparticle materials, as well as to their size and shape. This review describes the molecular mechanism of coronary restenosis, the use of DESs, and progress in nanoparticle drug- or gene-eluting stents for the prevention and treatment of coronary restenosis.

BACKGROUND The rs7395662 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the MADD-FOLH1 has been associated with serum lipid traits, but the results are inconsistent in different populations. The present study was undertaken to investigate the association of rs7395662 SNP and several environmental factors with serum lipid levels in the Guangxi Mulao and Han populations. METHOD A total of 721 subjects of Mulao and 727 subjects of Han Chinese were randomly selected from our previous stratified randomized samples. Genotyping of the SNP was performed by polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism combined with gel electrophoresis, and confirmed by direct sequencing. RESULTS Serum apolipoprotein (Apo) B levels were higher in Mulao than in Han (P < 0.01). The allelic and genotypic frequencies in Han were different between males and females (P < 0.05 for each), but there was no difference between Mulao and Han or between Mulao males and females. The levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and ApoB in Mulao females were different among the genotypes (P < 0.05), the G allele carriers had higher LDL-C and ApoB levels than the G allele non-carriers. The levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), LDL-C and ApoB in Han males and TC, TG and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) in Han females were different among the genotypes (P < 0.05-0.01), the subjects with GG genotype in Han males had higher TC, TG, and ApoB and lower LDL-C levels than the subjects with AA or AG genotype, and the G allele carriers in Han females had lower TC and HDL-C levels than the G allele non-carriers. The levels of LDL-C and ApoB in Mulao females were correlated with the genotypes (P < 0.05 for each). The levels of HDL-C and ApoAI in Han males and HDL-C in Han females were correlated with genotypes (P < 0.05-0.001). Serum lipid parameters were also correlated with several environmental factors in both ethnic groups (P < 0.05-0.01). CONCLUSION The association of rs7395662 SNP and serum lipid levels is different between the Mulao and Han populations, and between males and females in both ethnic groups.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The interactions between apolipoprotein (Apo) A1/C3/A5 haplotypes and alcohol consumption on serum lipid profiles have not been previously explored. The present study was undertaken to detect the polymorphisms of ApoA1 -75 bp G>A (rs1799837), ApoC3 3238C>G (rs5128), ApoA5 -1131T>C (rs662799), ApoA5 c.553G>T (rs2075291), and ApoA5 c.457G>A (rs3135507) and the interactions between their haplotypes and alcohol consumption on serum lipid levels. METHODS Genotyping was performed in 1,030 unrelated subjects (516 nondrinkers and 514 drinkers) aged 15 to 89. The interactions between ApoA1/C3/A5 haplotypes and alcohol consumption on serum lipid levels were detected by factorial regression analysis after controlling for potential confounders. RESULTS The frequencies of ApoC3 3238 CG/GG genotypes and ApoA1 -75 bp A allele in nondrinkers were higher in females than in males (p < 0.05). The frequencies of ApoC3 3238 CG/GG genotypes and G allele in drinkers were higher in females than in males (p < 0.05). The frequencies of ApoA1 -75 bp GA/AA genotypes and A allele in males were higher, and those of ApoC3 3238 CG/GG genotypes were lower in drinkers than in nondrinkers (p < 0.05 to 0.01). The frequency of ApoC3 3238 GG genotype in male drinkers was also higher in ≥25 g/d than in <25 g/d subgroups (p < 0.05). There were 11 haplotypes with a frequency >1% in our study population. The haplotypes of G-G-T-C-G (in the order of c.553G>T, c.457G>A, -1131T>C, 3238C>G, and -75 bp G>A), G-G-T-C-A, and G-G-C-G-G were shown consistent interactions with alcohol consumption to increase serum total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and ApoA1 levels (p < 0.05 to 0.001). The interactions between G-G-T-G-G (HDL-C and ApoA1), G-G-C-C-A (ApoA1), G-A-T-C-G (triglyceride), G-G-T-C-G (ApoA1/ApoB ratio), and G-G-C-G-G (ApoB) haplotypes and alcohol consumption on serum lipid levels were also detected (p < 0.05 to 0.001); the levels of these serum lipid parameters were significantly higher in drinkers than in nondrinkers. CONCLUSIONS The differences in serum lipid parameters between drinkers and nondrinkers might partly result from different interactions between the ApoA1/C3/A5 haplotypes and alcohol consumption.

Abstract
Both visfatin and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) were previously reported to be in relation to abnormal glucose metabolism (AGM). The hypothesis was investigated in this paper that plasma visfatin level are elevated in Chinese women with PCOS, and could substitute oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) as a simple predictor for their glucose intolerance. This cross-sectional study enrolled 119 women (91 newly diagnosed PCOS patients and 28 eumenorrheic age- and BMI- matched controls); anthropometric, hormonal, and metabolic parameters including serum visfatin were simultaneously measured in all participants. Plasma visfatin levels were compared between controls and PCOS subjects with various glucose metabolism status diagnosed by OGTT using 75 g of glucose. Pearson correlation coefficients were calculated to determine the correlations between various parameters. Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) analysis was performed to examine the diagnostic test performance of visfatin. Plasma visfatin levels were found to be significantly higher in our PCOS population compared to healthy controls (P less than 0.05). An increase in fasting visfatin concentrations with a worsening degree of glucose intolerance among PCOS patients was described. However, the difference did not reach statistical significance. In addition, visfatin was unexpectedly found to correlate with neither age, anthropometric, hormonal nor metabolic parameters. As a predictor for glucose intolerance to distinguish PCOS individuals with normal or abnormal glucose metabolism, visfatin was found to possess low potentially predictive ability according to ROC curve analysis. In conclusion, serum visfatin is significantly elevated in Chinese women with PCOS, but might not be a reliable predictor of their glucose intolerance.

Therefore, the present study was undertaken to detect the association of rs17321515 SNP and several environmental factors on serum lipid levels in the Mulao and Han populations. Methods A total of 639 unrelated subjects of Mulao nationality and 644 participants of Han nationality were randomly selected from our previous stratified randomized cluster samples. Genotypes of the TRIB1 rs17321515 A>G SNP were determined via polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism, and then confirmed by direct sequencing. Results Serum apolipoprotein (Apo) B levels were higher in Mulao than in Han (P < 0.05). There were no differences in the genotypic and allelic frequencies between the two ethnic groups (P > 0.05). High- and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C and LDL-C) levels in Han were different among the genotypes (P < 0.05 for each), the subjects with AG/GG genotypes had higher HDL-C and LDL-C levels than the subjects with AA genotype. Abstract
BACKGROUND The association of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor delta (PPARD) +294T > C polymorphism and serum lipid levels is inconsistent in several previous studies. Bai Ku Yao is an isolated subgroup of the Yao minority in China. The present study was undertaken to detect the association of PPARD +294T > C (rs2016520) polymorphism and several environmental factors with serum lipid levels in the Guangxi Bai Ku Yao and Han populations. METHODS A total of 609 subjects of Bai Ku Yao and 573 participants of Han Chinese were randomly selected from our previous stratified randomized cluster samples. Genotyping of the PPARD +294T > C polymorphism was performed by polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism combined with gel electrophoresis, and then confirmed by direct sequencing. RESULTS The levels of serum total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), apolipoprotein (Apo) AI and ApoB were lower in Bai Ku Yao than in Han (P < 0.001 for all). The frequency of T and C alleles was 77.50% and 22.50% in Bai Ku Yao, and 72.43% and 27.57% in Han (P < 0.01); respectively. The frequency of TT, TC and CC genotypes was 60.59%, 33.83% and 5.53% in Bai Ku Yao, and 52.18%, 40.50% and 7.32% in Han (P < 0.05); respectively. The subjects with CC genotype in Bai Ku Yao had higher serum LDL-C and ApoB levels and lower the ratio of ApoAI to ApoB than the subjects with TT and TC genotypes in females but not in males. The C allele carriers in Han had higher serum TC levels in males (P < 0.01) and ApoB levels in females (P < 0.05) than the C allele noncarriers. Serum TC and ApoB levels were correlated with genotypes in Han (P < 0.05 for each) but not in Bai Ku Yao. Serum lipid parameters were also correlated with sex, age, body mass index, alcohol consumption, cigarette smoking, and blood pressure in both ethnic groups. CONCLUSIONS These results suggest that the association of PPARD +294T > C polymorphism and serum lipid levels is different between the Bai Ku Yao and Han populations. The discrepancy between the two ethnic groups might partly result from different PPARD +294T > C polymorphism or PPARD gene-environmental interactions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Endothelial lipase (EL) is a major determinant of high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) metabolism, but the association of endothelial lipase gene (LIPG) polymorphism and serum HDL-C levels is scarce and conflicting in diverse populations. Bai Ku Yao is an isolated subgroup of the Yao minority in China. This study was designed to detect the association of LIPG 584C > T (rs2000813) polymorphism and several environmental factors with serum lipid levels in the Guangxi Bai Ku Yao and Han populations. METHODS A total of 645 subjects of Bai Ku Yao and 638 participants of Han Chinese were randomly selected from our previous stratified randomized cluster samples. Genotyping of the LIPG 584C > T was performed by polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism combined with gel electrophoresis, and then confirmed by direct sequencing. RESULTS The levels of serum total cholesterol (TC), HDL-C, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and apolipoprotein (Apo) AI and ApoB were lower in Bai Ku Yao than in Han (P < 0.05 - 0.001). The frequency of C and T alleles was 73.5% and 26.5% in Bai Ku Yao, and 67.9% and 32.1% in Han (P < 0.01); respectively. The frequency of CC, CT and TT genotypes was 50.4%, 46.2% and 3.4% in Bai Ku Yao, and 41.4%, 53.1% and 5.5% in Han (P < 0.01); respectively. Serum HDL-C levels in both ethnic groups were different among the three genotypes (P < 0.05 for each). Serum TC levels in both ethnic groups were also different between the CC and CT/TT genotypes (P < 0.05 for each). The T allele carriers had higher serum HDL-C and TC levels than the T allele noncarriers. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the levels of HDL-C and ApoB were correlated with genotypes in Bai Ku Yao (P < 0.05 for each), whereas the levels of TC and HDL-C were associated with genotypes in Han Chinese (P < 0.05 and P < 0.01). Serum lipid parameters were also correlated with several environmental factors in the both ethnic groups. CONCLUSIONS The frequency of LIPG 584T allele is lower in Bai Ku Yao than in Han Chinese. The LIPG 584T allele is associated with increased serum HDL-C, TC and ApoB levels. The differences in serum HDL-C, TC and ApoB levels between the two ethnic groups might partly result from different genotypic and allelic frequencies of LIPG 584C > T or different LIPG-enviromental interactions.

Abstract
For polycrystalline NiFe/FeMn bilayers, we have observed and quantified the rotation of the pinning direction in the exchange bias training and recovery effects. During consecutive hysteresis loops, the rotation of the pinning direction strongly depends on the magnetization reversal mechanism of the ferromagnet layer. The interfacial uncompensated magnetic moment of antiferromagnetic grains may be irreversibly switched and rotated when the magnetization reversal process of the ferromagnet layer is accompanied by domain wall motion and domain rotation, respectively.

Abstract
For FeNi/FeMn bilayers, the angular dependence of exchange bias shows hysteresis between clockwise and counterclockwise rotations, as a new signature. The hysteresis decreases for thick antiferromagnet layers. Calculations have clearly shown that the orientation of antiferromagnet spins also exhibits hysteresis between clockwise and counterclockwise rotations. This furnishes an interpretation of the macroscopic behavior of the ferromagnetic layer in terms of the thermally driven evolution of the magnetic state of the antiferromagnet layer.

Abstract
Intracoronary stent implantation (ICSI) has been widely used in interventional procedures. It can induce an even greater increment in intervention effectiveness and in success rate than traditional percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA). However, owing to the complexities in geometries, material properties and interactions seen in ICSI, analyses of the complete stenting system composed of balloon, stent, plaque and artery are limited. In order to investigate the biomechanical characteristics of ICSI, a three-dimensional model of the complete stenting system and self-defined constitutive models for the plaque and the balloon were developed, which made the simulation well close to the real situation. Finite element method (FEM) was used to simulate the stent implantation under the balloon inflation and deflation. The simulated results show that the distal end of stent, which tilts after expansion, may injure the artery wall. High stress concentrates in the contacting areas between the stent and the plaque. The recoil ratios of the balloon-stent model, the balloon-stent-plaque-artery model (representing ICSI) and the balloon-plaque-artery model (representing PTCA) are 3.1%, 12.3% and 22.9%, respectively. In conclusion, FEM can help illustrate and quantify some biomechanical characteristics of ICSI. And it would be helpful for the general understanding of ICSI.

Abstract
Effect of Fructus Aurantii Immaturus (FAI) was observed by using the computerized electrophysiologic method with the interdigestive myoelectric complex (IDMEC) as criterion. 100% FAI was given to the healthy, awakened and fasting dogs by gastrogavage and as soon as the effect on electric activity of small intestine appeared, atropine was injected. Results showed that the enhancing effect of FAI could be inhibited significantly by atropine, an antagonist of cholinergic receptor. It revealed that although the duration of phase II and general cycle were prolonged, but the spike burst per cluster in the duration between phase II and phase III as well as that per minute were decreased. It suggested the effect of FAI might be relevant with muscarinic receptor.

Abstract
Astragalus membranaceus (AM) is one of the important Chinese medicinal herbs which are widely used and well known for its invigoration of vital energy. In the present experiment, the cycle duration of interdigestive myoelectric complex (IDMEC) and the durations of every phase were observed electrophysiologically before and after the 25% concentrated solution (1 ml/kg) was instilled into the empty stomach of the healthy, awakened dog. Signals of IDMEC were recorded by microcomputer. No significant change was found in duodenum in each criteria except for phase which became slightly longer (P < 0.05). While in jejunum the shortening of phase I and the prolonging of phase II were both significant (P < 0.01) and the cycle duration was also extended (P < 0.05) as well as increase of action potential on phase II and within the cycle (P < 0.05), with phase III and IV remained unchanged (P > 0.05). These results indicated that AM could strengthen the movement and muscle tonus in intestine (esp. in jejunum) and might serve as the scientific evidences to elucidate the effects of AM on the movements in digestive tracts.

Abstract
A study was made in Neijiang City, Sichuan Province to observe the safety and immunogenicity of a live attenuated hepatitis A virus (HAV) vaccine (H2 strain). 3,031 children, aged 6 to 9 years, were injected subcutaneously with 10(6.0) TCID50, 10(5.5) TCID50, and 10(5.0) TCID50 of HAV vaccine; the seroconversion rate and antibody GMT were 97.52%-90.68%, GMT = 1:5.19 +/- 1.90-1:3.36 +/- 1.94; 84.75%-76.27%, GMT = 1:4.29 +/- 1.96-1:2.0 +/- 2.67; 53.23%-51.61%, GMT = 1:2.57 +/- 1.89-1:1.68 +/- 1.41 respectively after 4 weeks to 12 months of inoculation. Forty-eight children in the control group were anti-HAV negative at 4, 8, and 12 weeks; 21 children in the oral group were not antibody positive 4 and 8 weeks after oral administration of the vaccine. The stool specimens of 3 of the 14 vaccinated children were HAA positive. The results suggest that the live attenuated HAV vaccine (H2 strain) is of good immunogenicity and safety.

Abstract
Bone mineral content(BMC), serum calcium, phosphorus and AKP were measured in 64 epileptic patients on long-term treatment with antiepileptics and in 14 epileptic patients not taking antiepileptics. All these indices were also measured in a group of healthy controls. In the epileptic patients taking antiepileptics BMC was significantly lower than that in the control group. Serum calcium and phosphorus were also lower than normal, while AKP was elevated. In the epileptic patients not taking antiepileptics BMC was not significantly different from that in the control group. Serum calcium, phosphorus and AKP were all normal. After 3 months of treatment with vitamin D2, BMC and serum calcium level returned to normal, but AKP was still significantly lowered.

Abstract
Seventy one cases of pathologically proven osteosarcoma treated in our hospital from 1961 to 1986 are reported. There were 53 men and 18 women with a ratio of 2.9:1. Peak ages ranged from 11 to 25 in 52 (73.2%) cases. The mean age was 23 years. The most frequent site was the lower end of femur and upper end of tibia (48/70, 68.6%). Local pain and tenderness, which occurred in the early stage and aggravated at night in moderate and advanced stages. Codman's triangle and bone spicule formation in the roentgenograph, increased alkaline phosphatase (AKP) were the most common findings. Under optical microscope reliable diagnosis could only depend upon tumor cells forming osteoid substances, especially, tumorous bone-formation. Under electron microscope, the important findings were the dilated rough surface endoplastic reticulum and large amount of glycogen storage in the cytoplasm. The increased AKP and mildly or moderately positive acid phosphatase might be valuable. The prognosis was favorable in the younger than the older patients over 55 years, on the right than left in tumor site, smaller than larger in tumor size, osteoblast type than the others. Grading showed no significant relation to prognosis. It is emphasized to obtain multiple samples from various sites of the same tumor for precise diagnosis and classification.

Abstract
In this paper, 26 cases of malignant melanoma (MM) were analysed as to 10 items of clinicopathology, and 13 cases were followed. MM frequently occurs in the lower limbs. The peak age was 41 approximately 60 years. There was a history of having a black nevus (30.8%) and evident trauma (37.5%). Black nevus, located in the sole or palm, was able to undergo malignant change through long-term friction, irritation and so on. Therefore, preventive resection is necessary. Basing on the follow up study of 13 cases, three problems related to survival time are discussed: (1) Location of the tumor: MM in the mucosa has a worse prognosis than in the cutis. It might be considered as the rich blood supply to the mucosal tissue, easily resulting in hematogenous metastasis. (2) Clinical stage of the disease: The more advanced clinical stage, the shorter survival time. Early diagnosis and timely treatment play a key role in the prognosis. (3) TREATMENT: It is believed that extensive resection of the primary focus with dissection of the regional lymph nodes followed by adjuvant chemotherapy or Chinese traditional medicine is required. Correct diagnosis relies on the compositive analysis of 3 kinds of stain (iron reaction, fader and silver stain). The reticulum stain might be of benefit in differentiating the benign from malignant tumors. Diagnosis for the colorless MM depends on the finding of premelanin corpuscles by electronmicroscopy. In addition to Zhu Yuede's 9 criteria of diagnosis for MM, the authors propose that 4 features of MM in histostructure and cytomorphology be adhered to.

Abstract
This paper analyses 571 cases of primary bone and joint tumors diagnosed by histopathology, excluding the tumor-like lesions. They were divided into two groups: the benign (412 cases, 72.15%) and the malignant (159 cases, 27.85%). The susceptible ages were between 15-29 years and the susceptible location of these tumors were femur and tibia often on the right side. There were more males than the females. The frequencies in the two groups are as follows: In the benign group, osteoma had the highest incidence and then, with decreasing frequencies: osteochondroma, chondroma, synovioma, giant cell tumor, ossifying fibroma, osteoid osteoma, chondromyxoid fibroma. In the malignant group, the highest incidence was in the osteosarcoma, and then synoviosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, malignant giant cell tumor, Ewing's tumor, fibrosarcoma, osteomyeloma. The sequence of the incidence was basically similar to that reported abroad and at home. The pathogenesis of several kinds of bone tumor are discussed.
