Abstract
Methylmercury (MeHg) is a dangerous environmental contaminant with strong bioaccumulation in the food chain and neurotoxic properties. In the nervous system, MeHg may cause neurodevelopment impairment and potentially interfere with immune response, compromising proper control of neuroinflammation and aggravating neurodegeneration. Human populations are exposed to environmental contamination with MeHg, especially in areas with strong mining or industrial activity, raising public health concerns. Taking this into consideration, this work aims to clarify pathways leading to acute toxic effects caused by MeHg exposure in microglial cells. BV-2 mouse microglial cells were incubated with MeHg at different concentrations (0.01, 0.1, 1 and 10 µM) for 1 h prior to continuous Lipopolysaccharide (LPS, 0.5 μg/ml) exposure for 6 or 24 h. After cell exposure, reactive oxygen species (ROS), IL-6 and TNF-α cytokines production, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression, nitric oxide (NO) release, metabolic activity, propidium iodide (PI) uptake, caspase-3 and -9 activities and phagocytic activity were assessed. MeHg 10 µM decreased ROS formation, the production and secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6, TNF-α, iNOS immunoreactivity, the release of NO in BV-2 cells. Furthermore, MeHg 10 µM decreased the metabolic activity of BV-2 and increased the number of PI-positive cells (necrotic-like cell death) when compared to the respective control group. Besides, MeHg did not interfere with caspase activity or the phagocytic profile of cells. The short-term effects of a high concentration of MeHg on BV-2 microglial cells lead to impaired production of several pro-inflammatory mediators, as well as a higher microglial cell death via necrosis, compromising their neuroinflammatory response. Clarifying the mechanisms underlying MeHg-induced neurotoxicity and neurodegeneration in brain cells is relevant to better understand acute and long-term chronic neuroinflammatory responses following MeHg exposure.

Abstract
The epifauna associated to farmed mussels in southern Portugal coast was analysed, aiming at identifying the species with spreading potential through commercial transport. The presence of a relevant number of the species here found is not reported to at least one of the common mussel export/transposition countries. Indeed, important species biogeographic dissimilarities between the mussel farm area and the Greater North Sea and Western Mediterranean Sea sub-regions were detected, suggesting the potential transport of non-indigenous species (NIS) into other countries. Among them, fouling species such as the anemones Paractinia striata and Urticina felina, the acorn barnacles Balanus glandula and Balanus trigonus or the bryozoans Bugulina stolonifera and Schizoporella errata exhibit functional attributes that allow them to colonise and spread in new areas. This combined biogeographic and functional approach may contribute to clarify the role of aquaculture on the transport of NIS and to predict and prevent their spreading worldwide.

Abstract
Familial amyloidotic polyneuropathy type 1 (FAP 1) is a systemic autosomal dominant amyloidosis, associated with transthyretin mutation. It is characterised by motor, autonomic and sensory neuropathy with relentless progression that results from amyloid deposition in different tissues. The authors describe the case of a patient with family history of a nephew, who underwent liver transplantation for unknown pathology, as well as the deaths of both his mother and a brother due to stroke. He reported complaints of dizziness, asthenia and sensory changes in the lower limbs and a history of arterial hypertension, dyslipidemia and chronic kidney disease. Physical examination revealed macroglossia and pain hyposensitivity in the anterior feet. In subsequent evaluation, the presence of proteinuria, changes in cardiac electrical conduction, sensory and motor neuropathy with sympathetic and parasympathetic dysfunction in electrophysiological study raised the suspicion of a systemic disease. The patient underwent kidney biopsy, which was positive for amyloid. FAP 1 diagnosis was later confirmed by genetic testing. Family history review confirmed that patient's liver transplanted nephew and other two nieces had FAP 1, which he was initially unaware of. Abstract
The mitochondrial genome of Neurospora crassa has been less studied than its nuclear counterpart, yet it holds great potential for understanding the diversity and evolution of this important fungus. Here we describe a new mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) complete sequence of a N. crassa wild type strain. The genome with 64 839 bp revealed 21 protein-coding genes and several hypothetical open reading frames with no significant homology to any described gene. Five large repetitive regions were identified across the genome, including partial or complete genes. The largest repeated region holds a partial nd2 section that was also detected in Neurospora intermedia, suggesting a rearrangement that occurred before the N. crassa speciation. Interestingly, N. crassa has a palindrome adjacent to the partial nd2 repeated region possibly related to the genomic rearrangement, which is absent in N. intermedia. Finally, we compared the sequences of the three available N. crassa complete mtDNAs and found low levels of intraspecific variability. Most differences among strains were due to small indels in noncoding regions. The revisiting of the N. crassa mtDNA forms the basis for future studies on mitochondrial genome organization and variability.

Abstract
Introduction Depression is a heterogeneous syndrome linked to significant structural brain abnormalities, such as volumetric reductions in the hippocampus, anterior cingulate cortex and prefrontal cortex, as well as compromised white matter integrity. Recent growing evidence suggests that exercise is a promising and compelling treatment for depression in adults, showing effects that are comparable to other first-line treatments for depression. Objectives This review aims to improve our understanding of the biological pathways involved in both the pathophysiology of depression and the antidepressant effects of exercise. Methods This literature review considers the latest available scientific research addressing a comprehensive analysis of the antidepressant effect of physical exercise and the biological pathways involved. Results Physical activity has been shown to have a multimodal effect that stimulates biochemical pathways and restores neuronal structures disturbed in depression. Experimental evidence supports exercise-induced increases in hippocampal, anterior cingulate cortex and prefrontal cortex volume, suggesting that exercise and antidepressant medication may alleviate depression through common neuromolecular mechanisms. However, the benefits of exercise may also persist beyond the end of treatment, unlike antidepressant medication. Conclusions Given the undeniable scientific evidence favoring physical exercise in alleviating depression, it is of crucial importance to recommend this treatment in adjunct to psychotherapy and medication. Individuals at risk for depression also greatly benefit from it’s neuroprotective effects and should prioritize lifestyle changes. In older adults, there is a greater need for non-pharmaceutical treatments for depression due to limited efficacy of pharmaceutical treatments in this population.

Abstract
Introduction The relation between obsessive-compulsive symptoms and psychosis presents in different ways. While obsessive-compulsive symptoms can present as prodromes of schizophrenia, or in overlap with psychotic phenomenology, a new clinical entity as been proposed as a subgroup of schizophrenia: the schizo-obsessive disorder. Objectives The present review aims to emphasize the comorbility between schizophrenia and obsessive-compulsive disorder, bringing to light the importance of early detection and adequate treatment approaches. Methods The authors describe the patient’s disease progression and discuss the longitudinal dynamics between obsessive-compulsive disorder and schizophrenia, providing a brief and updated literature overview. Results The illustrated case addresses a 31-year-old male patient diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder at the age of 16, who later developed delusional ideation compatible with a schizophrenia diagnosis. At the onset of disease, the patient developed obsessive-compulsive symptoms such counting and repetitive hand-washing rituals that later turned into sexual obsessions concerning homossexuality. Following his 25th birthday, the patient became increasingly disorganized with frequent agressive outbursts toward his family and the obsessive egodystonic ideation turned into delusional egosyntonic ideation. Over the years, the patient shows intermittent obsessive-compulsive behavior while sustaining schizophrenia symptoms, particularly the negative symptoms. Conclusions Despite the controversy associated with the recently proposed new subgroup of schizophrenia, the schizo-obsessive disorder, we believe the patient described fits the diagnosis. Clinicians managing patients of schizophrenia should evaluate the patients thoroughly for presence of comorbid obsessive-compulsive symptoms/disorder and must take the same into account while managing the patients. Abstract
BACKGROUND Pancreatectomy plus celiac axis resection (CAR) is performed in patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer. The morbidity rates are high, and no survival benefit has been confirmed. It is not known at present whether it is the type of pancreatectomy, or CAR itself, that is the reason for the high complication rates. METHODS Observational retrospective multicenter study. INCLUSION CRITERIA patient undergoing TP, PD or DP plus CAR for a pancreatic cancer. RESULTS Sixty-two patients who had undergone pancreatic cancer surgery (PD,TP or DP) plus CAR were studied. Group 1: 17 patients who underwent PD/TP-CAR (13TP/4PD); group 2: 45 patients who underwent DP-CAR. Groups were mostly homogeneous. Operating time was longer in the PD/TP group, while operative complications did not differ statistically in the two groups. The number of lymph nodes removed was higher in the PD/TP group (26.5 vs 17.3), and this group also had a higher positive node ratio (17.9% vs 7.6%). There were no statistical differences in total or disease-free survival between the two groups. CONCLUSION It seems that CAR, and not the type of pancreatectomy, influences morbidity and mortality in this type of surgery. International multicenter studies with larger numbers of patients are now needed to validate the data presented here.

Abstract
The filamentous fungus Neurospora crassa is a popular model organism used in a wide range of biochemical and genetic studies and vastly used in mitochondrial research. Despite the relevance of mitochondria in N. crassa biology, no method for quantification of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is currently available. Quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) is a powerful tool, with a wide range of applications, and has been used for the quantification of nucleic acids in humans and a few other species. Here we present a new qPCR assay for relative quantification of N. crassa mtDNA. Three sets of qPCR primers targeting different regions of the mitochondrial genome were tested for mtDNA quantification. The qPCR was successfully validated in N. crassa strains from different geographical locations, representing the vast genetic diversity of this species, and knockout mutant strains. Moreover the assay proved to be efficient in templates with varied amounts of mitochondria, obtained through different DNA extraction methods. The qPCR performed well in all tested samples revealing a higher amount of mtDNA than nuclear DNA in all cases. This technique will facilitate the characterization of mtDNA of N. crassa in future studies and can be used as a tool to validate methods of mitochondria isolation. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: The standardization of quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) techniques is essential to enable and facilitate future comparisons. Neurospora crassa is a model organism with a lot of potential in different fields of study. Here we use N. crassa to develop and establish an assay to quantify mitochondrial DNA using qPCR. We tested strains with different geographical background and our data demonstrated the usefulness of this assay to quantify mitochondrial DNA in N. crassa. This technique can be useful in a wide variety of applications and in different types of studies.

Abstract
A multimetric approach was used to detect structural, compositional, and functional shifts in the underlying macrobenthic communities of an offshore mussel (Mytilus galloprovincialis) farm in a Portuguese Aquaculture Production Area. Sampling stations distributed inside and outside this area were used to evaluate sediment descriptors and macrobenthic samples collected before (April and September 2010) and after (June and September 2014) the initiation of mussel farming. Sediment fine fraction, organic matter content, and trace element concentrations were found to increase with depth, independently from the mussel farm. Moreover, the structure and composition of the macrobenthic communities were likewise structured by depth. Turnover was the dominant temporal and spatial pattern of beta diversity for all communities. Furthermore, the functional diversity of these communities was unaffected by the mussel farm. These results suggested that an offshore profile allowed hydrodynamic conditions to weaken the impact of mussel farming and highlighted the importance of conducting an integrative multimetric analysis when studying aquaculture impacts on benthic communities.

Abstract
PURPOSE To compare the noise-magnitude and noise-texture obtained using strong kernel across two generations of iterative reconstruction (IR) algorithms proposed by three manufacturers. MATERIALS AND METHODS Five computed tomography (CT) systems equipped with two generations of IR algorithm (hybrid/statistical IR [H/SIR] or full/partial model-based IR [MBIR]) were compared. Acquisitions on Catphan 600 phantom were performed at 120kV and three dose levels (CTDIvol: 3, 7 and 12mGy). Raw data were reconstructed using standard "bone" kernel for filtered back projection and one iterative level of two generations of IR algorithms. Contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) was computed using three regions of interest placed semi-automatically: two placed in the low-density polyethylene and Teflon inserts and another placed on the solid water. Noise power spectrum (NPS) was computed to assess the NPS-peak and noise-texture. RESULTS CNR was significantly greater in MBIR compared to H/SIR algorithms for all CT systems (P<0.01). CNR were improved on average from H/SIR to MBIR of 36±14% [SD] (range: 24-57%) for GE-Healthcare, 109±19 [SD] % (range: 89-139%) for Philips Healthcare and 42±5 [SD] % (range: 36-47%) for Siemens Healthineers. The mean NPS peak decreased from H/SIR to MBIR by -41±6 [SD] % (range: -47--35%) for GE Healthcare, -79±3 [SD] % (range: -82--76%) for Philips Healthcare and -52±2 [SD] % (range: -54--51%) for Siemens Healthineers systems. NPS spatial frequencies were greater with MBIR than with H/SIR for Philips Healthcare (20 ± 2 [SD] %; range: 19-22%) and for Siemens Healthineers (9±5 [SD] %; range: 4-14%) but lower for GE Healthcare (-17±3 [SD] %; range: -14--20%). CONCLUSION Using bone kernel with recent MBIR algorithms reduces the noise-magnitude for all CT systems assessed. Noise texture shifted towards high frequency for Siemens Healthineers and Philips Healthcare but the opposite for GE Healthcare.

Abstract
Introduction The main aim of the present study is to evaluate the effects of strenuous exercise, related to special military training for riot control, on systemic microvascular endothelial function and skin capillary density. Materials and Methods Endothelium-dependent microvascular reactivity was evaluated in the forearm skin of healthy military trainees (age 23.4 ± 2.3 yr; n = 15) using laser speckle contrast imaging coupled with cutaneous acetylcholine (ACh) iontophoresis and post-occlusive reactive hyperemia (PORH). Functional capillary density was assessed using high-resolution, intra-vital color microscopy in the dorsum of the middle phalanx. Capillary recruitment (capillary reserve) was evaluated using PORH. Microcirculatory tests were performed before and after a 5-wk special military training for riot control. Results Microvascular endothelium-dependent vasodilatory responses were markedly and significantly reduced after training, compared with values obtained before training. The peak values of microvascular conductance obtained during iontophoresis of ACh or PORH before training (0.84 ± 0.22 and 0.94 ± 0.72 APU/mmHg, respectively) were markedly reduced after training (0.47 ± 0.11 and 0.71 ± 0.14 APU/mmHg; p < 0.0001 and p = 0.0037, respectively). Endothelium-dependent capillary recruitment was significantly reduced after training (before 101 ± 9 and after 95 ± 8 capillaries/mm2; p = 0.0007). Conclusions The present study showed that a 5-wk strenuous military training, performed in unfavorable climatic conditions, induces marked systemic microvascular dysfunction, mainly characterized by reduced endothelium-dependent microvascular vasodilation and blunted capillary recruitment.

Abstract
Objectifs : Bien que quotidiennement géré par les infirmier(ière)s diplômé(e)s d’État (IDE) de réanimation, le sevrage des catécholamines a rarement été étudié. L’hypothèse de notre étude était que l’augmentation du nombre d’interventions menées sur la vitesse de perfusion des catécholamines permettait de raccourcir la durée d’administration de celles-ci.
Patients et méthodes : Il s’agissait d’une étude prospective observationnelle dans 21 réanimations. Tous les patients traités par vasopresseurs pendant la période d’étude ont été inclus. Le nombre d’interventions effectuées par l’IDE en charge du patient sur la vitesse d’administration des catécholamines était noté toutes les quatre heures. La posologie de catécholamines en cours ainsi que la pression artérielle moyenne (PAM) du patient étaient également relevées. Les facteurs influençant la rapidité du sevrage des catécholamines étaient également analysés.
Résultats : Nous avons inclus 226 patients dont l’âge moyen était de 65 ± 14 ans. La durée moyenne du traitement par catécholamines était de 71,6 (±81) heures. Le nombre d’interventions IDE par quatre heures était de 1,9 (±2,8) intervention. La durée du traitement par catécholamines était significativement moindre lorsque le nombre d’interventions augmentait (p = 0,04). L’existence d’un protocole spécifique à la gestion des catécholamines raccourcissait leur durée de sevrage. Un IGS2 élevé, une PAM élevée ainsi que la période diurne étaient associés à une augmentation du nombre des interventions IDE.
Conclusion : Le nombre d’interventions par les IDEs menées sur la perfusion de catécholamines était inversement lié à la durée du traitement par catécholamines. Des études complémentaires permettront d’évaluer l’impact de ces interventions sur le pronostic des patients.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate operator and patient irradiation during radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of common atrial flutter (AF) using three different fluoroscopy settings. MATERIAL AND METHOD A total of 38 patients who underwent RFA of AF with three different fluoroscopy settings (low dose, standard dose and collimated field) were included. Twelve patients (11 men, 1 woman; mean age, 67±12 [SD]years) were included in the low dose group (3.75 frames per second), 13 patients (13 men; mean age, 66±8 [SD]years) were included in the standard dose group (7.5 frames per second) and 13 patients (13 men; mean age, 71±12 [SD]years) were included in the collimated field group (7.5 frames per second). Operator and patient exposure were compared between groups. RESULT No differences in procedure time and radiation exposure were found between the three groups. In the low dose group, mean operator X-ray exposures of eye-lens (4.7±2.9 [SD]μSv/h; range: 0.9-10.5μSv/h), whole body (1.6±1.2 [SD]μSv/h; range 0.5-3.6μSv/h) and hand skin (11.1±10.8 [SD] μSv/h; range 2.4-35.4μSv/h) were significantly lower than those in the standard dose group (P<0.001). Significant patient dose reduction was found between low dose group (0.7±0.4 [SD]Gy/h; range: 0.3-0.9Gy/h) and standard (1.7±0.5 [SD]Gy/h; range: 0.8 to 3.9Gy/h) and collimated (1.8±0.5 [SD]Gy/h; range: 0.7-3.0Gy/h) groups (P<0.01). CONCLUSION The use of a low dose setting (3.75 f/s) during fluoroscopy dramatically reduces operator's irradiation during RFA of AF by a mean of 90%.

Abstract
Evaluating and testing hydration status is increasingly requested by rehabilitation, sport, military and performance-related activities. Besides commonly used biochemical hydration assessment markers within blood and urine, which have their advantages and limitations in collection and evaluating hydration status, there are other potential markers present within saliva, sweat or tear. This literature review focuses on body fluids saliva, sweat and tear compared to blood and urine regarding practicality and hydration status influenced by fluid restriction and/or physical activity. The selected articles included healthy subjects, biochemical hydration assessment markers and a well-described (de)hydration procedure. The included studies (n=16) revealed that the setting and the method of collecting respectively accessing body fluids are particularly important aspects to choose the optimal hydration marker. To obtain a sample of saliva is one of the simplest ways to collect body fluids. During exercise and heat exposures, saliva composition might be an effective index but seems to be highly variable. The collection of sweat is a more extensive and time-consuming technique making it more difficult to evaluate dehydration and to make a statement about the hydration status at a particular time. The collection procedure of tear fluid is easy to access and causes very little discomfort to the subject. Tear osmolarity increases with dehydration in parallel to alterations in plasma osmolality and urine-specific gravity. But at the individual level, its sensitivity has to be further determined.

Abstract
The first measurement of transverse-spin-dependent azimuthal asymmetries in the pion-induced Drell-Yan (DY) process is reported. We use the CERN SPS 190 GeV/c π^{-} beam and a transversely polarized ammonia target. Three azimuthal asymmetries giving access to different transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions (PDFs) are extracted using dimuon events with invariant mass between 4.3 GeV/c^{2} and 8.5 GeV/c^{2}. Within the experimental uncertainties, the observed sign of the Sivers asymmetry is found to be consistent with the fundamental prediction of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) that the Sivers TMD PDFs extracted from DY have a sign opposite to the one extracted from semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering (SIDIS) data. We present two other asymmetries originating from the pion Boer-Mulders TMD PDFs convoluted with either the nucleon transversity or pretzelosity TMD PDFs. A recent COMPASS SIDIS measurement was obtained at a hard scale comparable to that of these DY results. This opens the way for possible tests of fundamental QCD universality predictions.

Abstract
To assess the interest of Gafchromic films in detection of patient's peak skin dose (PSD) in interventional cardiology. A prospective study of 112 patients was conducted (July-December 2015). Three diagnostic and therapeutic procedures were evaluated: coronary angiography (CA), coronary angiography and coronary angioplasty for one or two vessels disease (CA-PTCA) and coronary angioplasty of complex chronic total occlusion (CTO). Dosimetric indicators (DIs) were collected and PSD were measured with Gafchromic films. Dose distribution was evaluated within 10 'Thorax Body-zone' defined by the system. Correlations between PSD and DI or dose distribution were computed. Delivered dose increased in complex procedures. The PSD were 0.121 ± 0.063 Gy for CA, 0.256 ± 0.142 Gy for CA-PTCA and 1.116 ± 0.721 Gy for CTO. High correlations were observed for PSD and DI as well for dose distribution within the 'Thorax Body-zone'. Film dosimetry is suggested for CTO procedures since the threshold of 2 Gy for skin injuries is likely to be exceeded.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to identify predictors of overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), and recurrence in a cohort of 151 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and cirrhosis who were treated by liver transplantation (LT). PATIENTS AND METHODS A retrospective database of patients undergoing LT for radiologically diagnosed HCC at "12 de Octubre" Hospital, Madrid during 1986-2006 was analyzed. RESULTS The median follow-up was 67.44 months (SD = 55.7 months). Overall 1-, 3-, 5-, and 10-year survival was 87.5%, 73.7%, 64.1% and 43.4%, respectively. The 5-year OS of patients beyond the Milan criteria was 47.14%, whereas that of patients within the Milan criteria was 70.13% (P = .011). The 5-year OS of patients beyond the Milan criteria and with microvascular invasion (MVI) was 27.27%, whereas that of patients beyond the Milan criteria and without MVI criteria was 57.89% (P = .003). Multivariate analysis of prognostic factors revealed MVI and G3 to be independent and statistically significant factors affecting OS (P < .0001 and P = .045, respectively), DFS (P < .0001 and P = .004, respectively), and recurrence (P = .0002 and P = .028, respectively). Multivariate analysis of prognostic factors also revealed preoperative fine-needle aspiration (FNA) to be an independent negative statistically significant factor affecting recurrence (P = .0022). Multivariate analysis of predictive MVI factors revealed preoperative α-fetoprotein (AFP) levels >200 ng/mL to be an independent positive and statistically significant predictor of MVI (P = .0004). CONCLUSION MVI and G3 are independent negative factors affecting OS, DFS, and recurrence. The presence of MVI or AFP levels >200 ng/mL represent a contraindication for LT, as long as the patient is beyond the Milan criteria.

Abstract
SPROUTY-2 (SPRY2) is a modulator of tyrosine kinase receptor signaling with receptor- and cell type-dependent inhibitory or enhancing effects. Studies on the action of SPRY2 in major cancers are conflicting and its role remains unclear. Here we have dissected SPRY2 action in human colon cancer. Global transcriptomic analyses show that SPRY2 downregulates genes encoding tight junction proteins such as claudin-7 and occludin and other cell-to-cell and cell-to-matrix adhesion molecules in human SW480-ADH colon carcinoma cells. Moreover, SPRY2 represses LLGL2/HUGL2, PATJ1/INADL and ST14, main regulators of the polarized epithelial phenotype, and ESRP1, an epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) inhibitor. A key action of SPRY2 is the upregulation of the major EMT inducer ZEB1, as these effects are reversed by ZEB1 knock-down by means of RNA interference. Consistently, we found an inverse correlation between the expression level of claudin-7 and those of SPRY2 and ZEB1 in human colon tumors. Mechanistically, ZEB1 upregulation by SPRY2 results from the combined induction of ETS1 transcription factor and the repression of microRNAs (miR-200 family, miR-150) that target ZEB1 RNA. Moreover, SPRY2 increased AKT activation by epidermal growth factor, whereas AKT and also Src inhibition reduced the induction of ZEB1. Altogether, these data suggest that AKT and Src are implicated in SPRY2 action. Collectively, these results show a tumorigenic role of SPRY2 in colon cancer that is based on the dysregulation of tight junction and epithelial polarity master genes via upregulation of ZEB1. The dissection of the mechanism of action of SPRY2 in colon cancer cells is important to understand the upregulation of this gene in a subset of patients with this neoplasia that have poor prognosis.

Abstract
The COMPASS Collaboration at CERN has measured diffractive dissociation of 190 GeV/c pions into the π(-)π(-)π(+) final state using a stationary hydrogen target. A partial-wave analysis (PWA) was performed in bins of 3π mass and four-momentum transfer using the isobar model and the so far largest PWA model consisting of 88 waves. A narrow peak is observed in the f0(980)π channel with spin, parity and C-parity quantum numbers J(PC)=1(++). We present a resonance-model study of a subset of the spin-density matrix selecting 3π states with J(PC)=2(++) and 4(++) decaying into ρ(770)π and with J(PC)=1(++) decaying into f0(980)π. We identify a new a1 meson with mass (1414(-13)(+15)) MeV/c2 and width (153(-23)(+8)) MeV/c2. Within the final states investigated in our analysis, we observe the new a1(1420) decaying only into f0(980)π, suggesting its exotic nature.

Abstract
Raw and pre-treated greaves and rinds, two meat-processing wastes, were assessed for biochemical methane potential (BMP). Combinations of temperature (25, 55, 70 and 120 °C), NaOH (0.3 g g(-1) waste volatile solids) and lipase from Candida rugosa (10 U g(-1) fat) were applied to promote wastes hydrolysis, and the effect on BMP was evaluated. COD solubilisation was higher (66% for greaves; 55% for rinds) when greaves were pre-treated with NaOH at 55 °C and lipase was added to rinds after autoclaving. Maximum fat hydrolysis (52-54%) resulted from NaOH addition, at 55 °C for greaves and 25 °C for rinds. BMP of raw greaves and rinds was 707±46 and 756±56 L CH4 (at standard temperature and pressure) kg(-1)VS, respectively. BMP of rinds improved 25% by exposure to 70 °C; all other strategies tested had no positive effect on BMP of both wastes, and anaerobic biodegradability was even reduced by the combined action of base and temperature.

Abstract
We consider the problem of fully unsupervised learning of grammatical (part-of-speech) categories from unlabeled text. The standard maximum-likelihood hidden Markov model for this task performs poorly, because of its weak inductive bias and large model capacity. We address this problem by refining the model and modifying the learning objective to control its capacity via para- metric and non-parametric constraints. Our approach enforces word-category association sparsity, adds morphological and orthographic features, and eliminates hard-to-estimate parameters for rare words. We develop an efficient learning algorithm that is not much more computationally intensive than standard training. We also provide an open-source implementation of the algorithm. Our experiments on five diverse languages (Bulgarian, Danish, English, Portuguese, Spanish) achieve significant improvements compared with previous methods for the same task.

Abstract
The phylogeography of wild boars (WB) and domestic pigs (Sus scrofa) has contributed important insights into where and when domestication occurred. The geographic distribution of two core haplotypes (E1a and E1c) of the main European phylogenetic clade suggests that Central Europe was an early domestication centre, although the complexity of the pattern does not exclude the possibility that multiple domestication events occurred in different regions. To investigate the relationships among WB and domestic pig breeds in Iberia, a fragment of the mitochondrial DNA control region from a large sample (n=409) of WB and local pig breeds was co-analysed with published sequences from other European populations. The Iberian sample revealed a high frequency of a sub-cluster (E1c) of the European haplogroup E1 in 77% of total Iberian samples, 96% of WB, 90% of Alentejano (Portugal) and 87% of Iberian breed pigs (Spain; Black Hairy, Black Hairless and Red varieties). Low genetic distance (F'(ST) = 0.105) was observed between Alentejano (Portugal) and Iberian breed pigs (Spain). Alentejano and Iberian breed pigs showed low genetic distances to both Iberian and Central European WB (average F'(ST) =0.345 and 0.215, respectively). This pattern suggests that early pig husbandry in the Iberian Peninsula did not solely rely on imported Central European stock, but also included the recruitment of local WB.
