Abstract
Objective: To validate the diagnostic performance of the Paris system for reporting urinary cytology (TPS). Methods: A total of 7 046 urine cytology samples from 3 402 patients collected in the Department of Pathology, Beijing Hospital, China from January 2020 to January 2022 were analyzed. 488 patients had a biopsy or resection specimen during the follow-up period of 6 months. The sensitivity, specificity, risk of malignancy (ROM) and risk of high-grade malignancy (ROHM) of the TPS were evaluated using histological diagnosis as the golden standard. Results: Among the 7 046 samples, high-grade urothelial carcinoma (HGUC) accounted for 5.7% (399/7 046), suspicious for high-grade urothelial carcinoma (SHGUC) for 3.2% (227/7 046), atypical urothelial cells (AUC) for 8.4% (593/7 046), and negative for high-grade urothelial carcinoma (NHGUC) for 72.9% (5 139/7 046) including low-grade urothelial neoplasm (LGUN) for 0.8% (59/7 046) and insufficient samples for 9.8% (688/7 046). 488 patients had a bladder biopsy or resection in the follow-up of six months, including 314 males and 174 females, aged 27 to 92 years (average, 66 years). The ROHM of TPS was 94.7% in HGUC, 83.3% in SHGUC, 41.3% in AUC and 18.8% in NHGUC. The sensitivity and specificity of urine cytology were 70.1% (169/241) and 97.0% (162/167), respectively. The negative predictive value of NHGUC was 69.2% (162/234). Conclusions: The study has shown that TPS classification has high sensitivity and specificity, high ROHM for HGUC and SHGUC, and high negative predictive value for NHGUC. The application of TPS reporting system can better interpret the clinical significance of cytology samples, improve the accuracy of urine cytopathology and ensure continuous diagnostic consistency.

Abstract
The prevalent use of disposable plastic tableware presents notable environmental and health risks. An alternative, polylactic acid (PLA), often does not meet usage requirements due to its low crystallization rate. This research introduces an amide-based nucleating agent, BRE-T-100, developed through a straightforward method to enhance the heat resistance and crystallization rate of PLA. This study systematically investigates the impact of BRE-T-100 and other nucleating agents on the properties of PLA composites. The incorporation of 0.8 % BRE-T-100 increases the crystallization temperature of PLA from 109.6 °C to 131.9 °C. Further, the total crystallization time of PLA composites at 120 °C is reduced to <60 s, while maintaining good transparency. BRE-T-100 exhibits superior comprehensive properties compared to talcum, TMC-200, and TMC-300 and is nearly on par with LAK-301. Its application as a nucleating agent in PLA-based disposable tableware shows promise.

Swimming behavior indicates stress and adaptations to exercise. Front Physiol 2024; 15:1357120. Abstract
Introduction: Behaviors of swimming rodents are not uniform, exhibiting large variations, which may underlie the individual differences in swimming exercise-induced benefits. The study aimed to monitor individualized swimming behavior and evaluate its biological significance. Methods: A swimming tank which can monitor individualized rodent swimming behavior during exercise was established. A total of 45 mice were subjected to swimming training for 1 month (1 h per day) and the swimming behaviors of each mouse were recorded. Results: The swimming behaviors of mice displayed considerable variations in aspects of distance, velocity, and area preference. For example, nearly one-third of mice preferred to swim in central area and most of the mice exhibited an even area distribution. Long-term exercise training improved cardiac systolic function and decreased blood pressure in mice, but hardly changed swimming behaviors. Analyses of the relationship between swimming behavior and cardiovascular adaptations to exercise training revealed that swimming behavior indicated the biological effects of swimming training. Specifically, mice which preferred swimming at the central zone or were trainable in behavior during 1-month training exhibited better outcomes in cardiac function and blood pressure post long-term exercise. Mechanistically, a centralized swimming behavior indicated a smaller stress during exercise, as evidenced by a milder activation of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Discussion: These results suggest that swimming behavior during training indicates individualized adaptations to long-term exercise, and highlight a biological significance of swimming behavior monitoring in animal studies.

Abstract
Accumulation of heavy metals in humans and mammals causes health problems due to their abundance as transition metal ions. Iron (Fe2+) serves significantly in numerous biological processes as a heavy metal ion. In this study, we have designed and prepared a metal-organic framework (MOF) utilizing a one-step solvothermal process, incorporating a dual-ligand combination of terephthalic acid (H2BDC) and α,α',α''-tert-pyridine (TPY) with Eu3+ as the metal node. For this MOF, we termed it Eu-BDC/TPY. Eu-BDC/TPY has superior selectivity over other metal cations. It provides an accurate, sensitive, broad linear range colorimetric method for detecting Fe2+ in a concentration range of 1-50 μM with a modest limit of detection (0.33 μM). Eu-BDC/TPY detects the absence of Fe2+ quickly (within 5 seconds), which is very valuable in practical applications. In addition, the results can be used to create a digital image colorimetric card (DIC) using colorimetric software, enabling instantaneous detection of Fe2+ concentration using a smartphone.

Abstract
Hydroxyl radical (•OH) detection is pivotal in medicine, biochemistry and environmental chemistry. Yet, electrochemical method-specific detection is challenging because of hydroxyl radicals' high reactivity and short half-life. In this study, we aimed to modify the electrode surface with a specific recognition probe for •OH. To achieve this, we conducted a one-step hydrothermal process to fabricate a CoZnMOF bimetallic organic framework directly onto conductive graphite paper (Gp). Subsequently, we introduced salicylic acid (SA) and methylene blue (MB), which easily penetrated the pores of CoZnMOF. By selectively capturing •OH by SA and leveraging the electrochemical signal generated by the reaction product, we successfully developed an electrochemical sensor Gp/CoZnMOF/SA + MB. The prepared sensor exhibited a good linear relationship with •OH concentrations ranging from 1.25 to 1200 nM, with a detection limit of 0.2 nM. Additionally, the sensor demonstrated excellent reproducibility and accuracy due to the incorporation of an internal reference. It exhibited remarkable selectivity for •OH detection, unaffected by other electrochemically active substances. The establishment of this sensor provides a way to construct MOF-modified sensors for the selective detection of other reactive oxygen species (ROS), offering a valuable experimental basis for ROS-related disease research and environmental safety investigations.

Comparison of instrumented and stand-alone lateral lumbar interbody fusion for lumbar degenerative disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis. BMC Musculoskelet Disord 2024; 25:108. [PMID: 38310205 PMCID: PMC10837938 DOI: 10.1186/s12891-024-07214-6] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Submit a Manuscript] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 05/15/2023] [Accepted: 01/18/2024] [Indexed: 02/05/2024] Open
Abstract
BACKGROUND Both instrumented and stand-alone lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF) have been widely used to treat lumbar degenerative disease. However, it remains controversial as whether posterior internal fixation is required when LLIF is performed. This meta-analysis aims to compare the radiographic and clinical results between instrumented and stand-alone LLIF. METHODS PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane Collaboration Library up to March 2023 were searched for studies that compared instrumented and stand-alone LLIF in the treatment of lumbar degenerative disease. The following outcomes were extracted for comparison: interbody fusion rate, cage subsidence rate, reoperation rate, restoration of disc height, segmental lordosis, lumbar lordosis, visual analog scale (VAS) scores of low-back and leg pain and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) scores. RESULTS 13 studies involving 1063 patients were included. The pooled results showed that instrumented LLIF had higher fusion rate (OR 2.09; 95% CI 1.16-3.75; P = 0.01), lower cage subsidence (OR 0.50; 95% CI 0.37-0.68; P < 0.001) and reoperation rate (OR 0.28; 95% CI 0.10-0.79; P = 0.02), and more restoration of disc height (MD 0.85; 95% CI 0.18-1.53; P = 0.01) than stand-alone LLIF. The ODI and VAS scores were similar between instrumented and stand-alone LLIF at the last follow-up. CONCLUSIONS Based on this meta-analysis, instrumented LLIF is associated with higher rate of fusion, lower rate of cage subsidence and reoperation, and more restoration of disc height than stand-alone LLIF. For patients with high risk factors of cage subsidence, instrumented LLIF should be applied to reduce postoperative complications.

Abstract
Accumulating evidence indicates that cellular premature senescence of the glomerulus, including endothelial cells, mesangial cells, and podocytes leads to diabetic nephropathy (DN), and DN is regarded as a clinical model of premature senescence. However, the role of cellular senescence-associated genes in the glomerulus in DN progression remains unclear. Therefore, this work aims to identify and validate potential cellular aging-related genes in the glomerulus in DN to provide novel clues for DN treatment based on anti-aging. The microarray GSE96804 dataset, including 41 diabetic glomeruli and 20 control glomeruli, is retrieved from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database and cellular senescence-related genes (CSRGs) are obtained from the GeneCards database and literature reports. Subsequently, PPI, GO, and KEGG enrichment are analyzed by screening the intersection between differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and CSRGs. scRNA-seq dataset GSE127235 is used to verify core genes expression in glomerulocytes of mice. Finally, db/db mice are utilized to validate the hub gene expression in the glomeruli, and high glucose-induced mesangial cells are used to confirm key gene expression. This study reveals that FOS and ZFP36 may play an anti-aging role in DN to ameliorate cell intracellular premature aging in mesangial cells of glomeruli.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN A retrospective study. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to check how accurately cages were inserted and how they affected the radiological results in oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF) at L2-L5. METHODS A total of 137 patients diagnosed with lumbar degenerative disease, 184 intervertebral discs were included. We used a new cage deviation classification system on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to determine cage insertion accuracy. Cage deviation angles (CDA) were classified into four groups based on the angle formed by the long axis of the cage and the horizontal axis of the vertebral body. Other radiological parameters on plain radiographs and MRI were compared based on this classification. RESULTS Among 183 cages, 19 were in zone Ⅰ-Ⅱ (10.32%), 163 were in zone II-III (88.59%), and two were in zone III-IV (1.09%). The median cage deviation was 4.97°. No significant differences (H = 2.479, P = .290 > .05) of CDA were found among different segments. Posterior cage deviation accounted 94.57%. The minimal, mild, moderate, and severe cage deviation was 89 (48.4%), 51 (27.7%), 30 (16.3%), and 14 (7.6%) respectively. No differences in radiological parameter changes were noted among different cage obliquity categories. CONCLUSIONS Approximately 98.91% of cages were placed in zones I-II and II-III. Most cages deviated posteriorly with CDA ranging minimal to moderate. Minimal to moderate cage deviation did not impact radiological outcomes significantly in OLIF at L2-L5. However, avoiding severe cage deviation is crucial to prevent contralateral traversing nerve root injuries.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the expression differences of LLGL2 between prostatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) and prostatic acinar adenocarcinoma, and its potential clinical significance. Methods: Eighteen patients diagnosed of PDA or prostatic acinar adenocarcinoma with PDA component by histopathology during January 2015 and December 2019 in the Beijing Hospital, China were retrospectively studied. The transcriptome analysis was conducted using the tissue of PDA and prostatic acinar adenocarcinoma. Differentially expressed genes and the differences in expression profiles were identified. Further, differentially expressed proteins were verified by immunohistochemistry. Results: The tissue from 8 of the 18 patients were used for transcriptome analysis, the results of which were compared with data from public databases. 129 differentially expressed genes were identified. 45 of them were upregulated while 84 were downregulated. The results of gene enrichment analysis and gene oncology (GO) analysis revealed that the differentially expressed genes were mostly enriched in the hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and interleukin-17 related pathways. GPAT2, LLGL2, MAMDC4, PCSK9 and SMIM6 were differentially expressed between PDA and prostatic acinar adenocarcinoma. Moreover, LLGL2 was more likely expressed in the cytoplasm (P=0.04) than the nucleus (P<0.01) in PDA, compared with prostatic acinar adenocarcinoma. Conclusions: The gene expression profiling indicates that PDA are very similar to prostatic acinar adenocarcinoma. Among the differentially expressed proteins screened and verified in this study, the expression of GPAT2, LLGL2, MAMDC4 and PCSK9 is increased in PDA, while that of SMIM6 is reduced in PDA. The expression of LLGL2 shows significantly different patterns between PDA and prostatic acinar carcinoma, and thus may help differentiate PDA from prostatic acinar adenocarcinoma in clinical practice.

Utilizing Ultra-homogeneous SiO x and Defects to Achieve Interlayer Protection for Lithium Metal Anodes. SMALL (WEINHEIM AN DER BERGSTRASSE, GERMANY) 2023; 19:e2303294. Abstract
The uncontrollable growth and uneven nucleation of lithium metal can be addressed by utilizing spatial confinement structures in conjunction with lithiophilic sites. However, their complex fabrication technique and the inhomogeneous dispersion of lithiophilic sites make the application ineffective. In this work, ultra-uniformly dispersed SiOx seeds and defects are produced in situ to achieve the spatially restricted protection within the reduced graphene oxide (rGO) layer. The in situ formed SiOx and defects during annealing double constrain lithium nucleation and growth behaviors thanks to the superlithiophilic characteristic, while both provide the fast Li+ transport channel to utilize the interlayer protection of rGO in limiting lithium dendrite growth. Furthermore, XANES and XPS analyze the SiOx seeds that are dominated by various valence states, and theoretical calculations further verify the control on the nucleation of lithium atoms. Benefiting from the optimum average valence of three for the "control site", the host realizes steady circulation. In asymmetric cells, the host demonstrates excellent coulombic efficiency of 99.1% and stable lifespans over 1250 h at 1 mA cm-2 . When assembled in LiFePO4 full cells, it retains a favorable capacity of 116.2 mA h g-1 after 170 cycles.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To establish a finite element model of meniscus horizontal cleavage and partial resection, to simulate the mechanical changes of knee joint under 4 flexion angles, and to explore what is the optimal surgical plan. METHODS We used Mimics Research, Geomagic Wrap, and SolidWorks computer software to reconstruct the 3D model of the knee joint, and then produced the horizontal cleavage tears model of the internal and lateral meniscus, the suture model, and the partial meniscectomy model. These models were assembled into a complete knee joint in SolidWorks software, and corresponding loads and boundary constraints were added to these models in ANSYS software to simulate the changing trend of pressure and shear force on femoral condylar cartilage, meniscus, and tibial cartilage under the flexion angles of 0°, 10°, 20°, 30° and 40° of the knee joint. At the same time, the difference of force area between medial interventricular and lateral interventricular of knee joint under four states of bending the knee was compared, to explore the different effects of different surgical methods on knee joint after horizontal meniscus tear. RESULTS Within the four medial meniscus injury models, the lowest peak internal pressure and shear force of the knee joint was observed in the meniscal suture model; the highest values were found in the bilateral leaflet resection model and the inferior leaflet resection model; the changes of pressure, shear force and stress area in the superior leaflet resection model were the most similar to the changes of the knee model with the meniscal suture model. CONCLUSION Suture repair is the best way to maintain the force relationship in the knee joint. However, resection of the superior leaflet of the meniscus is also a reliable choice when suture repair is difficult.

Abstract
To compare outcomes after oblique lateral interbody fusion (OLIF) versus minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MISTLIF) with bilateral decompression via unilateral approach for treating mild to moderate symptomatic degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis (DLSS). We retrospectively compared patients who underwent single-level (L4/5) OLIF with an age-, sex-, and segment-matched MISTLIF with bilateral decompression via unilateral approach cohort. Perioperative data were collected for the operative time, intraoperative blood loss, drainage in the first postoperative day, postoperative hospital stay, cost, intraoperative fluoroscopy, and complications. Lumbar radiographs were measured for changes in posterior intervertebral space height (PISH), intervertebral space foramen height (IFH), intervertebral foramen area (IFA), and area of the spinal canal (ASC). Clinical and psychological outcomes included the visual analog scale (VAS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), and hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS). 35 OLIF patients were compared with 35 MISTLIF patients in L4/5 DLSS. The OLIF group had shorter bedtime, postoperative hospital stays, less intraoperative and postoperative blood loss (all P < 0.05), but had more times of intraoperative fluoroscopy, longer operative time, and higher cost (all P < 0.05). The complication rates were equivalent (OLIF vs MISTLIF: 22.86% vs 17.14%). PISH (11.94 ± 1.78 mm vs 9.42 ± 1.94 mm, P < 0.05), IFH (23.87 ± 3.05 mm vs 21.41 ± 2.95 mm, P < 0.05), and IFA (212.14 ± 51.82 mm2 vs 177.07 ± 51.73 mm2, P < 0.05) after surgery were significantly increased in the OLIF group. The ASC was increased significantly after the operation in both groups, but the ASC in the MISTLIF group was increased significantly more than that in the OLIF group (450.04 ± 66.66 mm2 vs 171.41 ± 58.55 mm2, P < 0.05). The lumbar VAS scores at 1 month (1.89 ± 0.87 vs 2.34 ± 0.84, P = 0.028) and 6 months (1.23 ± 0.97 vs 1.80 ± 0.99, P = 0.018) after operation in the OLIF group were significantly lower. There were no significant differences in lower extremity VAS and ODI scores between the two groups. Compared with MISTLIF group, HADS scores on postoperative day 3 (2.91 ± 1.46 vs 4.89 ± 1.78, P < 0.05) and prior to hospital discharge (PTD) (2.54 ± 1.38 vs 3.80 ± 1.78, P = 0.002) in the OLIF group were decreased significantly. OLIF showed more advantages of less surgical invasion, lower incidence of postoperative low back pain, faster postoperative recovery, and less anxiety compared with MISTLIF. Regardless of cost, OLIF seems to be a better option to treat mild to moderate symptomatic DLSS.

Abstract
A catalyst-free aza-Michael addition/C(sp3)-O bond formation tandem reaction of substituted amino ferrocenes with quinone esters was developed, which provided a green and efficient strategy for the construction of a C(sp3)-O bond from C(sp3)-H, and a series of N-ferrocene-substituted benzodihydrooxazoles were smoothly produced in moderate to excellent yields (up to >99% yield). The mechanism experiments showed that quinone esters performed as both substrate and oxidant. The salient features of this transformation include good functional group tolerance, broad substrate scope and mild conditions.

Abstract
Objective: To assess the feasibility of nuclear score combined with cyclin D1 immunocytochemistry in classifying indeterminate thyroid nodules with fine-needle aspiration (FNA) cytological diagnosis of Bethesda category Ⅲ-Ⅴ. Methods: A consecutive cohort of 118 thyroid FNA specimens with indeterminate diagnosis (TBSRTC category Ⅲ-Ⅴ) and available histopathologic follow-up data were collected between December 2018 and April 2022 at the Department of Pathology, Beijing Hospital, China. These cases were subjected to cytological evaluation and cyclin D1 immunocytochemistry. The optimal cut-off points of a simplified nuclear score and the percentage of cyclin D1-positive cells for the diagnosis of malignancy or low-risk neoplasm were determined using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and area under the ROC curve (AUC). The specificity, sensitivity, positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) of nuclear score and cyclin D1 immunostaining were evaluated from the crosstabs based on cut-off points. The diagnostic accuracy of simplified nuclear score combined with cyclin D1 immunostaining was estimated using ROC curve analysis. Results: Nuclear grooves, intra-nuclear inclusions and chromatin clearing were more commonly found in malignancy/low-risk neoplasms than benign lesions (P=0.001, P=0.012 and P=0.001 respectively). A cut-off point of≥2 for the simplified nuclear score was sensitive for defining malignancy/low-risk neoplasm, and its PPV, NPV, sensitivity and specificity were 93.6%, 87.5%, 99.0% and 50.0% respectively. A positive cut-off point of 10% positive thyroid cells in cyclin D1 immunostaining demonstrated sensitivity of 88.5%, specificity of 100%, PPV of 100% and NPV of 53.8% for correctly detecting thyroid malignancy or low-risk neoplasm. The sensitivity and PPV of simplified nuclear score combined with cyclin D1 immunostaining were 93.3% and 100%, respectively. Both specificity and NPV were maintained at high levels (100% and 66.7%, respectively). The diagnostic accuracy of simplified nuclear score combined with cyclin D1 immunostaining in detecting thyroid malignancy/low-risk neoplasm was increased to 94.1% compared to using either of them alone. Conclusions: Combing simplified nuclear score and cyclin D1 immunostaining on FNA cytology specimens can increase the diagnostic accuracy in classifying thyroid nodules of indeterminate cytological categories. Thus, this supplementary approach provides a simple, accurate, and convenient diagnostic method for cytopathologists so that may reduce unnecessary thyroidectomies.

Abstract
A copper/cobalt-catalyzed difunctionalization of alkenes with sulfonylazides and tert-butyl hydroperoxide has been achieved. This protocol provides an efficient and direct oxysulfonylation approach to β-ketosulfones and β-sulfonyl peroxides in moderate to good yields under mild conditions. This methodology applies sulfonylazides as a new sulfonyl radical source and features a wide substrate scope and good functional group tolerance.

Abstract
In real-world applications, multiple robots need to be dynamically deployed to their appropriate locations as teams while the distance cost between robots and goals is minimized, which is known to be an NP-hard problem. In this paper, a new framework of team-based multi-robot task allocation and path planning is developed for robot exploration missions through a convex optimization-based distance optimal model. A new distance optimal model is proposed to minimize the traveled distance between robots and their goals. The proposed framework fuses task decomposition, allocation, local sub-task allocation, and path planning. To begin, multiple robots are firstly divided and clustered into a variety of teams considering interrelation and dependencies of robots, and task decomposition. Secondly, the teams with various arbitrary shape enclosing intercorrelative robots are approximated and relaxed into circles, which are mathematically formulated to convex optimization problems to minimize the distance between teams, as well as between a robot and their goals. Once the robot teams are deployed into their appropriate locations, the robot locations are further refined by a graph-based Delaunay triangulation method. Thirdly, in the team, a self-organizing map-based neural network (SOMNN) paradigm is developed to complete the dynamical sub-task allocation and path planning, in which the robots are dynamically assigned to their nearby goals locally. Simulation and comparison studies demonstrate the proposed hybrid multi-robot task allocation and path planning framework is effective and efficient.

Abstract
We demonstrated here an efficient synthetic method of carbazole derivatives from readily available N-arylnaphthalen-2-amines and quinone esters catalyzed by Brønsted acid. With this strategy, a series of carbazole derivatives were obtained in good to excellent yields (76 to >99) under mild conditions. Large scale reaction illustrated the synthetic utility of this protocol. Meanwhile, a series of C-N axially chiral carbazole derivatives were also constructed in moderate to good yields (36-89% yield) with moderate to excellent atroposelectivities (44-94% ee) by using chiral phosphoric acid as a catalyst, which provides a novel strategy for the atroposelective construction of C-N axially chiral compounds and a new member of the C-N atropisomers.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Both denosumab and bisphosphonates have been demonstrated effective for glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis. However, evidence-based medicine is still lacking to prove the clinical results between denosumab and bisphosphonates. This meta-analysis aims to compare the efficacy and safety between denosumab and oral bisphosphonates for the treatment of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis through evidence-based medicine. METHODS MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane library databases were searched up to June 2022 for randomized controlled trials that compared denosumab and oral bisphosphonates in the treatment of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis. The following outcomes were extracted for comparison: percentage change in bone mineral density from baseline at the lumbar spine, total hip, femoral neck, and ultra-distal radius; percentage change from baseline in serum concentration of bone turnover markers; and incidence of treatment-emergent adverse events. RESULTS Four randomized controlled trials involving 714 patients were included. The pooled results showed that denosumab was superior to bisphosphonates in improving bone mineral density in lumbar spine (mean difference (MD) 1.70; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.11-2.30; P < 0.001) and ultra-distal radius (MD 0.87; 95% CI 0.29-1.45; P = 0.003), and in suppressing C-terminal telopeptide of type 1 collagen (MD -34.83; 95% CI -67.37--2.28; P = 0.04) and procollagen type 1 N-terminal propeptide (MD -14.29; 95% CI -23.65- -4.94; P = 0.003) at 12 months. No significant differences were found in percentage change in total hip or femoral neck bone mineral density at 12 months, or in the incidence of treatment-emergent adverse events or osteoporosis-related fracture. CONCLUSIONS Compared with bisphosphonates, denosumab is superior in improving bone mineral density in lumbar spine and ultra-distal radius for glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis. Further studies are needed to prove the efficacy of denosumab.

Abstract
In volleyball, the correct approach and start (including the number of steps and stride speed) are a prerequisite for all technical movements to attack. It can not only improve the horizontal speed of the athlete, but also properly convert the total speed into vertical speed, so that the hitting point is improved and the ball speed is accelerated. To explore the biomechanical characteristics of lower limb movements in the run-up and take-off stage of volleyball spiking, this paper takes four male volleyball players from the Physical Education College of X University as the research objects to analyze the kinematics and dynamics of the run-up process and the take-off process. This paper uses the precise recognition method under the background of deep learning to accurately capture the movements of the research object. This paper discusses the effects of time, speed, distance, knee, and hip parameters (angle, joint muscle torque, and power) on the effect of spiking techniques. It is expected to provide reference for the diagnosis, guidance, and muscle strength training of this special technical movement. The research results show that the horizontal speed of No. 2 athlete is 3.62 m/s and the vertical speed is 2.71 m/s when he takes off. The landing time is 0.375 s and the lift-off time is 0.16 s. The torque and power of the knee joint changed greatly during the take-off process, and the change of the hip joint was small.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the clinicopathological features of positive surgical margins (PSM) after radical prostatectomy and to explore its associated factors. Method: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 274 patients who underwent radical prostatectomy in Beijing Hospital from June 2018 to June 2021. The margins of these specimens of radical prostatectomy were directly inked with black ink. According to the margin status (tumor present versus not), the patients were divided into PSM and negative surgical margin (NSM) groups. The clinicopathological characteristics were compared between two groups, including age, preoperative prostate specific antigen (PSA), number of tumors, tumor's location, postoperative pathological Gleason score, tumor burden and postoperative pathological staging. Results: Among the 274 cases, 114 showed PSM, and 160 showed NSM. PSM accounted for 41.6% of the cases. The mean age was 68.3 years, while the PSM group's mean age was 68.0 years, and that of the NSM group was 68.6 years, with no statistical significance between groups (P>0.05). The mean preoperative PSA was 15.8 μg/L in all patients, 21.5 μg/L in the PSM group and 11.3 μg/L in NSM group. PSA in the PSM group was statistically higher than that in the NSM group (P<0.001). The PSA level (10 μg/L, 10-20 μg/L, and >20 μg/L) was associated with the PSM rate (31.1%, 48.7%, and 69.4%). Regarding tumor numbers, 118 cases had a single focus, including 40 cases with PSM (33.9%). In the 156 cases of multiple foci, 74 cases had a PSM (47.4%). There were statistically more PSM cases in the cases with multi-focal disease (P<0.05). Tumors were seen in the transit zone of 44 cases, while 107 cases showed tumors in the peripheral zone, and 123 cases in the whole zone. The PSM rate was 27.3% (12/44), 40.2% (43/107), and 48.0% (59/123) by tumor location, respectively, but the difference among groups was not statistically significant (P>0.05). The postoperative Gleason scores were 3+3=6 in 51 cases, 3+4=7 in 98 cases, 4+3=7 in 81 cases, and ≥8 in 44 cases, with PSM rates of 19.6% (10/51), 38.8% (38/98), 45.7% (37/81) and 65.9% (29/44), respectively (P<0.001 for rate differences). The tumor burden was <30% in 157 cases, 30%-60% in 91 cases, and>60% in 26 cases, with PSM rate of 21.0% (33/157), 65.9% (60/91) and 80.8% (21/26), respectively (P<0.001 for rate differences). Moreover, there were 181 cases of pathological stage T2 (PSM rate, 29.3%) and 93 cases of pathological stage T3 (PSM rate, 65.6%), with statistical difference in PSM rates (P<0.001). The multivariable logistic regression analysis indicated that preoperative PSA >20 μg/L, postoperative Gleason score ≥8, high tumor burden and pathological stags were different between the PSM and NSM groups (P<0.05). Conclusions: The PSM of radical prostatectomy is closely related to the preoperative PSA level, the number of lesions, postoperative Gleason score, tumor burden and pathological stage. Preoperative PSA level >20 μg/L, postoperative Gleason score ≥8, high tumor burden and pathological stage are independent predictors for PSM.

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the clinical outcome and quality of life in elderly patients in poor conditions with unilateral symptomatic degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis (DLSS) who were treated with percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD) assisted by double tubes. Methods This study was designed retrospectively. From June 2017 to June 2018, 31 consecutive elderly patients who were presented with unilateral symptomatic DLSS, underwent PELD assisted by double tubes under local anesthesia. American Society of Anesthesiology score (ASA) was used to evaluate the patients' conditions. The operative time, intraoperative blood loss, hospital stay, and complications were evaluated. Clinical outcomes were assessed by the visual analog scale (VAS), Oswestry disability index (ODI), and modified Macnab criteria. Short Form 36 (SF‐36) was used to evaluate the life quality. The CT or MRI was used to evaluate the spinal area. Results Thirty‐one patients were enrolled and 25 cases achieved at least a 24‐month follow‐up. Three patients were lost to follow‐up and three patients died from other diseases. A total of 76% (19/25) of the patients presented an ASA score of more than 3. The mean operative time was 67.80 min, the mean blood loss was 18.2 ml, and the hospital stay was 6.92 days. The postoperative 12‐month follow‐up VAS score significantly decreased compared with that before the operation (1.12 ± 0.73 vs. 5.12 ± 1.81, p < 0.01). Although the VAS score decreased at the final follow‐up, there was no significant difference compared with that at the 12‐month follow‐up (0.92 ± 0.64 vs. 1.12 ± 0.73, p = 0.549). So did the ODI. Also, there was no difference in the ODI scores between the 12‐month follow‐up and the final follow‐up (12.52 ± 5.58 vs. 9.44 ± 6.32, p = 0.172). The overall excellent rate was 92% (23/25) at the final follow‐up. The scores of the physical function, mental function, and social function of SF‐36 after the operation improved significantly compared with those before operation (p < 0.05). But there was no difference in the physical function score (84.00 ± 6.29 vs 84.40 ± 6.18, p = 0.871), mental function score (81.76 ± 8.01 vs 81.68 ± 6.67, p = 0.974), or social function score (115.50 ± 13.64 vs 118.50 ± 12.03, p = 0.437) between the 12‐month follow‐up and the final follow‐up. There were no differences in the VAS, ODI, and SF‐36 between the L4/5 and L5S1 groups before operation or at the final follow‐up (p > 0.05). The postoperative radiology indicated the lateral recess is opened and the area of the dural sac is expanded. Two cases (8.0%, 2/25) experienced recurrence and a secondary PELD was performed. Conclusions PELD assisted by double tubes is effective for unilateral symptomatic DLSS in elderly patients with comorbidities and could improve life quality.

Abstract
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) exhibits strong stability on conventional stainless steel (SS) surface, with infectious virus detected even after two days, posing a high risk of virus transmission via surface touching in public areas. In order to mitigate the surface toughing transmission, the present study develops the first SS with excellent anti-pathogen properties against SARS-COV-2. The stabilities of SARS-CoV-2, H1N1 influenza A virus (H1N1), and Escherichia coli (E.coli) on the surfaces of Cu-contained SS, pure Cu, Ag-contained SS, and pure Ag were investigated. It is discovered that pure Ag and Ag-contained SS surfaces do not display apparent inhibitory effects on SARS-CoV-2 and H1N1. In comparison, both pure Cu and Cu-contained SS with a high Cu content exhibit significant antiviral properties. Significantly, the developed anti-pathogen SS with 20 wt% Cu can distinctly reduce 99.75% and 99.99% of viable SARS-CoV-2 on its surface within 3 and 6 h, respectively. In addition, the present anti-pathogen SS also exhibits an excellent inactivation ability for H1N1 influenza A virus (H1N1), and Escherichia coli (E.coli). Interestingly, the Cu ion concentration released from the anti-pathogen SS with 10 wt% and 20 wt% Cu was notably higher than the Ag ion concentration released from Ag and the Ag-contained SS. Lift buttons made of the present anti-pathogen SS are produced using mature powder metallurgy technique, demonstrating its potential applications in public areas and fighting the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 and other pathogens via surface touching.

Transcriptomic profiling reveals gene expression in human peripheral blood after exposure to low-dose ionizing radiation. JOURNAL OF RADIATION RESEARCH 2022; 63:8-18. Abstract
Although the health effects of exposure to low-dose ionizing radiation have been the focus of many studies, the affected biological functions and underlying regulatory mechanisms are not well-understood. In particular, the influence of radiation exposure at doses of less than 200 mGy on the regulation of genes and pathways remains unclear. To investigate the molecular alterations induced by varying doses of low-dose radiation (LDR), transcriptomic analysis was conducted based on ribonucleic acid (RNA) sequencing following exposure to 50 and 150 mGy doses. Human peripheral blood was collected, and the samples were divided into three groups, including two treatments and one control (no radiation). A total of 876 (318 upregulated and 558 downregulated) and 486 (202 upregulated and 284 downregulated) differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified after exposure to 50 mGy and 150 mGy, respectively. Most upregulated genes in both the 50 mGy and 150 mGy groups were associated with 'antigen processing and presentation,' which appeared to be the major targets affected by LDR exposure. Several interacting genes, including HLA-DQA1, HLA-DQA2, HLA-DQB2, HLA-DRB1, and HLA-DRB5 were mapped to 'antigen processing and presentation,' 'immune system-related diseases' and the 'cytokine-mediated signaling pathway,' suggesting that these genes might drive the downstream transmission of these signal transduction pathways. Our results suggest that exposure to LDR may elicit changes in key genes and associated pathways, probably helping further explore the biological processes and molecular mechanism responsible for low-dose occupational or environmental exposures in humans.

Abstract
A simple and rapid method for efficient synthesis of sulfonyl chlorides/bromides from sulfonyl hydrazide with NXS (X = Cl or Br) and late-stage conversion to several other functional groups was described. A variety of nucleophiles could be engaged in this transformation, thus permitting the synthesis of complex sulfonamides and sulfonates. In most cases, these reactions are highly selective, simple, and clean, affording products at excellent yields.

Abstract
Aim: Intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration (IDD) is one of the main causes for spinal degenerative diseases, such as disk herniation, spinal canal stenosis, and spinal deformities. Growing evidence has highlighted the contribution of oxidative stress in pathogenesis of IDD, and antioxidant treatment is thus considered to be a promising therapeutic strategy for IDD. The aim of this study was to investigate whether N-tert-butyl-α-phenylnitrone (PBN), a free radical scavenger, could attenuate the pathological changes of IDD by alleviating oxidative stress.Materials and Methods: Nucleus pulposus (NP) cells were isolated from rabbit lumbar disks. MTT assay, real-time PCR and western blotting were employed to evaluate the effects of PBN on oxidative damages induced by 2,2'-azobis (2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride (AAPH) in NP cells. Results: AAPH induced oxidative stress and the subsequent degenerative changes in NP cells via the ERK/MAPK pathway. On the contrary, the oxidative stress induced by AAPH was significantly ameliorated by PBN. Moreover, PBN also attenuated AAPH-induced expression of matrix degradation proteases and apoptosis. PBN suppresses AAPH-induced activation of ERK/MAPK pathway, which may be the underlying mechanism for the protective effects of PBN.Conclusions: Our study for the first time identified a novel role and mechanism for PBN in protecting the IVD against oxidative stress, matrix catabolism and apoptosis, which may have implications for its further application in combating IVD degenerative diseases.Abbreviations: AAPH: 2,2'-azobis(2-methylpropanimidamidine) dihydrochloride; ADAMTS: a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs; AF: annulus fibrosus; CEP: cartilage endplate; DCF: 2'7'-dichlorofluorescein; IDD: intervertebral disc degeneration; IVD: intervertebral disc; LPS: lipopolysaccharide; MMP: matrix metalloproteinase; MTT: methyl-thiazolyl-tetrazolium; NP: nucleus pulposus; PBN: N-tert-butyl-alfa-phenylnitrone; PGs: proteoglycans; ROS: reactive oxygen species; SDS: sodium dodecyl sulfate.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) are the dominant factor leading to tumor metastasis. This study aims to investigate the effect of disparate sources of CTCs on the treatment and prognosis of patients with advanced tumors by analyzing the number and gene mutations change of CTCs in arterial and venous blood in patients with advanced tumors. RESULTS A CTCs sorting system was constructed based on Vimentin-immunolipid magnetic balls (Vi-IMB) and EpCAM immunolipid magnetic balls (Ep-IMB). Results showed that the prepared Ep-IMB and Vi-IMB had lower cytotoxicity, better specificity and sensitivity. The number of arterial CTCs was higher than that of venous CTCs, with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). Moreover, the prognosis of the low positive group of total CTCs in arterial blood and venous blood was higher than that of the high positive group, with a statistical significance (P < 0.05). The genetic testing results showed that the targeted drug gene mutations in tissues, arterial CTCs and venous CTCs showed a complementary trend, indicating that there was heterogeneity among different tumor samples. CONCLUSIONS CTCs in blood can be efficiently captured by the CTCs sorting system based on Vi-LMB/Ep-LMB, and CTCs detection in arterial blood can be utilized to more accurately evaluate the prognosis and predict postoperative progress. It is further confirmed that tumor samples from disparate sources are heterogeneous, providing a reference basis for gene mutation detection before clinical targeted drug treatment, and the detection of CTCs in arterial blood has more potential clinical application value. Abstract
Objective The aim of the present study was to compare the clinical outcomes and quality of life following percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic discectomy (PTED) and microscope‐assisted tubular discectomy (MTD) for lumbar disc herniation (LDH). Methods This study had a retrospective design. From June 2017 to June 2018, the clinical data of 120 patients with LDH treated with PTED (60 cases, PTED group) and MTD (60 cases, MTD group) were analyzed and followed up for at least 20 months. There were 59 men and 61 women. Patients were aged between 22 and 80 years. The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, incision length, frequency of intraoperative fluoroscopy, cost, hospital stay, types of herniated discs, complications, and clinical outcomes were evaluated. Clinical outcomes were assessed using the visual analog scale (VAS), the Oswestry disability index (ODI), and the modified Macnab criteria. Short‐Form 36 (SF‐36) and the EQ‐5D‐5L were used to evaluate the quality of life of patients. The data between the two groups were compared by independent sample t‐tests. Multiple comparisons between samples were analyzed by analysis of variance. Results Compared with the MTD group, the PTED group had shorter incision length (9.20 ± 1.19 mm vs 26.38 ± 1.82 mm), less intraoperative blood loss (18.00 ± 4.97 mL vs 39.83 ± 6.51 mL), and shorter hospital stay (5.42 ± 5.08 days vs 10.58 ± 3.69 days) (P = 0.00). PTED was much more appropriate for foraminal and extraforaminal disc herniation. The incidence of paresthesia was lower in the PTED group (6.67% vs 16.67%). At each follow up, the VAS and ODI scores of all patients were significantly improved compared with those before surgery (P = 0.00). At 3 days postoperatively, the lumbar VAS score of the PTED group was significantly lower (1.58 ± 1.00 vs 2.37 ± 1.10, P = 0.00). The excellent rate of the PTED group reached 91.67%, and that of the MTD group reached 93.33%. Compared with the preoperative SF‐36 scores for physiological function, mental health, and social function, the postoperative scores were significantly improved in both groups (P = 0.00). The EQ‐5D‐5L in the PTED group increased from 0.30 ± 0.17 before the operation to 0.69 ± 0.13 after 6 months of follow up (P = 0.00) and 0.73 ± 0.14 after 20 months of follow up. The EQ‐5D‐5L in the MTD group increased from 0.28 ± 0.17 before the operation to 0.68 ± 0.13 after a 6‐month follow up (P = 0.00), and 0.73 ± 0.12 after a 20‐month follow up. Conclusion Although both PTED and MTD are effective for LDH, PTED is much more appropriate for various types of LDH and has the advantages of the low incidence of low back pain, fewer complications, and early recovery.

Abstract
Objective: To study the application of cell transfer technology to solve the problem of the limited number of fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) smears for various immunocytochemistry (ICC) staining and other auxiliary tests, and to enhance accurate cytological diagnosis. Methods: Thirty-four cases of FNAC smears from January 2020 to April 2020 in the Department of Pathology of Beijing Hospital were collected for investigation of the cell transfer technique. The materials in the most cell smear were divided and transferred to several glass slides. After de-staining, the recipient slides were stained with EnVision ICC. The technique was validated by comparing the consistency of the ICC of transferred cell smears and the corresponding immunohistochemical (IHC) staining on biopsies. Results: There were a total of 180 cell transfer slides from 34 cases, of which 174 had the same cell morphology, size and structure as the original smears, with the success rate of cell transfer of 96.7% (174/180). Totally 174 ICC stains were performed on the successfully transferred cell smears, of which 153 smears had available corresponding IHC staining of histologic specimens. Of these, 148 showed concordance between ICC staining and the IHC staining. Cells were successfully transferred in 96.7 % (148/153) of the cell sheets, keeping the same morphology and structure as compared to their original smears. The diagnosis of all 34 FNAC cases was the same to that of their corresponding pathology on biopsies with 100 % concordance. Conclusions: The cell transfer technique is a simple and effective way to make full use of diagnostic cells on a cell smear, and is valuable for accurate cytological diagnosis.

In vitro and in vivo study on prevention of myocardial ischemic injury by taurine. ANNALS OF TRANSLATIONAL MEDICINE 2021; 9:984. Abstract
Background Myocardial ischemia (MI) often causes angina, arrhythmia, and cardiac insufficiency, sometimes resulting in death. Ischemia-induced myocardial tissue damage is attributed to the hypoxic damage of myocardial cells producing apoptosis and decreased proliferation. Taurine has been shown to improve MI, but its mechanism is largely unknown. Methods In this study, the relationship between taurine and severity of MI in vivo was evaluated by quantifying myocardial infarct areas and metabolic indicators of myocardial damage and measuring taurine levels in cardiac muscle and plasma by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). To elucidate how taurine might suppress ischemic injury, we established an in vitro ischemia model with isolated primary rat cardiomyocytes cultured without serum or glucose and under hypoxia. We evaluated the indicators of MI and damage, including lactic dehydrogenase (LDH), creatine kinase (CK), and cardiac troponin I (cTnI). We also examined the levels of taurine transporter (TauT), cysteine dioxygenase (CDO), and cysteine sulfinate decarboxylase (CSD) proteins involved in transport and synthesis of taurine in the myocardium and those of 2 apoptosis-associated proteins, namely, Bcl-2 associated X protein (BAX) and B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2). Results Exposure of myocardial cells to ischemia led to the decrease of taurine content, the suppression of cell proliferation, and led to calcium ion overload and apoptosis. Pretreatment with taurine alleviated the ischemic damage, with concomitant elevation of intracellular taurine concentrations. Molecular mechanism analysis showed that pretreatment with taurine upregulated the TauT, CDO, and CSD, 2 rate-limiting enzymes involved in taurine synthesis. These effects facilitated both taurine transport into cells and taurine synthesis, leading to taurine accumulation. In addition, apoptosis inhibition by taurine appeared to be mediated by upregulated Bcl-2 and downregulated BAX, as well as inhibition of calcium overload by suppression of calcium binding protein. Conclusions We demonstrated that TauT is critical for the attenuation of myocardial ischemic damage by taurine, facilitating taurine absorption and synthesis. These findings provided new insights and a theoretical foundation for future studies examining taurine as a potential treatment for MI.
