functional outcome in late adolescence/early adulthood of patients with autism spectrum disorder and its relationships with parental burnout and depression: A preliminary multi-center, cross-sectional study

The aim of this study is to determine the functioning of adults with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) diagnosed in childhood and depression and burnout levels among their parents. A total of 261 adults with ASDs and their parents were recruited for the study. Both parents completed the Beck Depression and Maslach Burnout Inventories and reported the functioning of their adult offspring with ASDs. Only 5.4 % of our sample reported "good" or "very good" outcomes. The most common psychiatric comorbidities were intellectual disabilities and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Maternal burnout and depression scores were significantly elevated compared to those of fathers. There is an undeniable urgent need for more research to identify the needs of adults and families suffering from ASD. Modifications for those with ASD may have to be made for support in workplaces, achieving driving licenses, using public transportation and attendance at tertiary education.

Lower urinary tract symptoms and toileting behaviors in Turkish adult women

This study aimed to investigate lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in Turkish adult women and to compare toileting behaviors in women with and without LUTS. This cross-sectional study was conducted in 815 women. The International Consultation on Incontinence Modular Questionnaire - Female LUTS and a toileting behaviors form, created by the authors, were used in evaluations. Nearly 50 % of the women had at least one LUTS, 45.8 % had storage symptoms, 7.4 % had voiding symptoms, and 20.2 % had incontinence symptoms. The rates of premature urination, straining during urination, delayed urination, and sitting on the toilet while urinating were higher in women with LUTS than in women without LUTS (p < .05). The rate of squatting on the toilet while urinating was lower in women with LUTS than those without LUTS (p < .05). Various LUTS were common in adult women. Some toileting behaviors such as premature urination, straining during urination, delayed urination, and sitting on the toilet while urinating were higher in women with LUTS compared to women without LUTS. Since the rate of unhealthy toilet behaviors is higher in women with LUTS, it is important to know unhealthy toilet behaviors in the management of LUTS and to organize training programs to prevent these behaviors and LUTS.

Chronotype and sleep disorders in children with epilepsy

OBJECTIVE

The circadian rhythm can affect the frequency and resistance of epileptic seizures. In this cross-sectional study, we examined the impact of chronobiology and sleep disturbances on children with epilepsy.

METHODS

125 children and adolescents (55 patients and 70 controls) were included in the study. All participants were asked to complete the Revised Child Anxiety and Depression Scale - Child Version (RCADS-CV), Sleep Disturbances Scale for Children (SDSC), Childhood Chronotype Questionnaire (CCQ).

RESULTS

According to the CCQ results, controls had longer sleep duration (median 595 vs 570), lower morningness-eveningness scores (median: 28 vs 30) and higher rates of the morningness (12.9% vs 1.8%) and intermediate (74.3% vs 60%) chronotypes. The children and adolescents with epilepsy scored significantly higher in the Sleep breathing disorders (p = 0.001), Disorders of arousal nightmares (p = 0.044), Sleep-wake transition disorders (p = 0.037), Disorders of excessive somnolence (p = 0.001) and total SDCS (p = 0.046) scores. According to the RCADS-CV results, the children with epilepsy scored significantly higher in all subscales in comparison to controls (p <0.05).

SIGNIFICANCE

Children and adolescents with epilepsy had shorter sleep duration, were more likely to be evening-oriented and had more significant sleep disturbance symptoms compared to controls.

Safety and efficacy of laparoscopic colectomy in low volume centre following effective laparoscopic training. Retrospective cohort study

The use of minimally invasive surgery in colon cancers is becoming widespread and developing day by day Laparoscopic right hemicolectomy (LRHC) with complete mesocolic excision is gradually becoming the standard oncological surgical principle for right hemicolectomy. The aim of our study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of laparoscopic right hemicolectomy in a small-volume center.

METHODS

Clinical outcomes were analyzed in a study comparing laparoscopic right hemicolectomy with conventional right hemicolectomy. By standardizing laparoscopic right hemicolectomy in our center, data on patient characteristics, surgical details, tumor, lymph node, and metastasis stage (TNM), postoperative recovery, and survival were retrieved and analyzed from retrospective databases.

RESULTS

Patients underwent open (n. 63) and laparoscopic (n. 51) right hemicolectomies in our units. In the laparoscopic group, the rate of conversion to open was 5.8%, and there was no mortality for 30 days. In the open group, the first-month mortality was 6.3%, and the rate of complications was 15.9%. The mean age of the patients in the laparoscopic group (65.7±13.46) was statistically significantly higher than that of the open group 60.49±12.67) (p=0.042). Operation time was 147.53±57 minutes in the laparoscopic group and 132.84±34 minutes in the open batch, and there was no statistically significant difference between them. Significant correlations were found between stage and cancer subgroup information (p=0.001). Adenocarcinoma (42%) and mucinous (43.8%) type cancers were found more frequently in patients with stage III, while signet ring cancers were more common (100%) in stage IV patients.

CONCLUSIONS

LRHC and laparoscopic conventional right hemicolectomy offered similar oncologic outcomes for right colon cancers in small volume centers. LRHC can be performed safely, and sufficient laparoscopic experience is essential for it to be considered the gold standard procedure. With an improved standard technique and systematic learning method, patient safety and surgical results can be achieved as successfully as in the open surgical approach.

Evaluation of the Regulatory Role of Circadian Rhythm Related Long Non-Coding RNAs in ADHD Etiogenesis

OBJECTIVE

ADHD is associated with increased sleep problems and circadian rhythm disturbances. This study aimed to examine ADHD patients and healthy controls in terms of chronotypic features and expression levels of CLOCK, PER1, lncRNA HULC, lncRNA UCA1.

METHOD

Eighty-three children were included (43 ADHD). Conner's Parent Rating Scale-Revised Short Form, Childhood Chronotype Questionnaire, Children's Sleep Disorders Scale were administered. Gene expression levels were studied from peripheral blood.

RESULTS

Evening chronotype, sleep initiation/maintenance disorder, sleep-wake transition disorder, excessive sleepiness disorder were higher in the ADHD group compared to the controls in the scales reported by the parents. Expression levels of all examined genes were statistically significantly higher in the ADHD group. There was no significant relationship between genes and sleep parameters in the ADHD group.

CONCLUSION

Our study provides the first evidence that lncRNA HULC and lncRNA UCA1 might have a role in the etiology of ADHD.

Learning Curve of Laparoscopic Surgery for Colorectal Cancer at a New Regional State Hospital: A Single-Surgeon Experience Of 106 Consecutive Cases Without Supervision

BACKGROUND

Laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer is mostly performed in university hospitals or experienced centers. This study aimed at determining the learning curve of laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer at a new regional state hospital.

PATIENTS AND METHODS

Clinico-pathological data of 106 consecutive patients who underwent laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer at a new regional state hospital between August 2018 and September 2021 were prospectively recorded and analyzed. All surgeries were performed by a single inexperienced surgeon without supervision. The primary outcome of the study was the operative time, which was used for a Cumulative Sum (CUSUM) analysis of the learning curve. The secondary outcomes included a comparison of preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative outcomes during the learning curve period.

RESULTS

According to the CUSUM analysis, the learning curve consisted of three unique phases: phase 1 [the initial learning period (cases 1-53)], phase 2 [the consolidation period (cases 54-68)], and phase 3 [the experienced period (cases 69-106)]. Of the intraoperative outcomes, operative time and estimated blood loss were significantly reduced from phase 1 to phase 3 (p<0.001). Of the postoperative outcomes, time to pass stool (p<0.05), time to oral feeding (p=0.001), drain removal time (p<0.001), and length of hospital stay (p=0.042) were shorter in phase 3 compared to phases 1 and 2. Of the histopathological results, the specimen length and the number of harvested lymph nodes increased with experience (p=0.001).

CONCLUSIONS

The present results suggest that a surgeon at a new regional state hospital must experience 53-68 cases to achieve competence in laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery.

Ocular biometry characteristics and its relationship with age, gender, spherical equivalent in Turkish children

Background

Studying ocular biometric parameters in different populations and determining the relationship with personal characteristics can provide valuable information about ocular growth and help provide a better understanding of refractive errors.

Aims

To describe distributions of ocular biometry and to evaluate its associations with age, gender, spheric equivalent in Turkish children.

Patients and Methods

In this prospective study 344 children aged 3-14 years were evaluated. Parameters studied included axial length (AL), anterior chamber depth (ACD), and mean corneal radius (CR) measured with optical biometry. Cycloplegic refraction values were obtained using autorefractometer. The change of biometric parameters according to age and gender were evaluated. The relationship between ocular biometry parameters with refraction and age was analyzed by linear regression.

Results

Mean spherical equivalent (SE), AL, ACD and AL/CR observed to be lowest in the preschooler group (P < 0.001). SE reduced with age, and a weak correlation observed between SE and age (r = -0.333). AL and ACD had moderate and weak positive correlations with age respectively (r = 0.511; r = 0.304). There were negative correlations between SE with AL, ACD and AL/CR (r = -0.826; r = -0.540; r = -0.886). The strongest correlation with SE among these parameters was identified for AL/CR. AL and ACD were higher in boys, while the CR was lower in girls (p < 0.001).

Conclusion

While AL in children in late schooler group is higher than European countries, it shows similar characteristics in early schooler group. In addition AL is lower in all age groups than Asian population sexcept preschooler group. With age AL increases, SE decreases and AL plays a key role in refractive development.

The impact of impulsivity and school attendance on COVID-19 spread: A web-based cross-sectional questionnaire

Some personal and social decisions can be influential in the spread of COVID-19. There are no studies examining school attendance, impulsivity, COVID-19 phobia, and psychological resilience together while the effect of some individual and social measures on COVID-19 has been frequently investigated. In this study 360 participants were evaluated through an online questionnaire method during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Sociodemographic data form prepared by the researchers, COVID-19 Phobia Scale, Barratt Impulsivity Scale, and Brief Resilience Scale were used in the study. In all, 20.6% (n = 74) of participants had previously experienced COVID-19. The rate of individuals who experienced the death of any of their relatives due to COVID-19 was 17.8%. Only 65.8% of respondents fully complied with government-implemented measures for the outbreak. School attendance (OR = 1.983, p = .033) and impulsivity (OR = 1.115, p < .001) were found to be positively correlated with COVID-19. The presence of a significantly higher psychiatric disease admission history in patients with COVID-19 in binary comparisons did not reach the level of significance in regression analysis. Our results suggest that high school attendance and impulsivity scores are positively correlated with COVID-19 in young people. Government strategies related to schools need to be carefully reviewed for this reason.

Pelvic floor dysfunction symptoms and knowledge level in obese women

This study compared the pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) symptoms and knowledge levels in obese and non-obese women. The study included 40 obese and 41 non-obese women. The presence of PFD and the severity of its symptoms were questioned with the Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory-20 (PFDI-20) (its sub-scales: Pelvic Organ Prolapse Distress Inventory-6 (POPDI-6), Colorectal-Anal Distress Inventory-8 (CRADI-8), Urinary Distress Inventory-6 (UDI-6)). Participants' PFD knowledge levels were evaluated with the Prolapse and Incontinence Knowledge Questionnaire (PIKQ) and the Anal Incontinence Knowledge Questionnaire (AIKQ). The rates of urinary incontinence (UI) and pelvic organ prolapse (POP) symptoms were higher in the obese group compared to the control group (p = .001). The POPDI-6, CRADI-8, UDI-6, and PFDI-20 scores were higher in the obese group compared to the control group (p < .001). Moreover, the knowledge level related to treatment methods for PFD was lower in the obese women compared to the non-obese women (p < .05). PFD symptom incidence and severity were higher and knowledge levels related to PFD were lower in the obese women compared to the non-obese women. Informative teaching programs on this issue would be beneficial as part of preventive health services.

Association of SARS-CoV-2 cycle threshold (Ct) values with clinical course and serum biomarkers in COVID-19 patients

Introduction: Our knowledge has gaps regarding severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) replication levels and its association to severity of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The aim of this study was to investigate the association of SARS-CoV-2 viral load with disease severity and serum biomarkers in COVID-19 patients. Methodology: Viral load was determined via cycle threshold (Ct) values of SARS-CoV-2 real-time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in 214 adult patients. Ct values were compared with clinical severity, biochemical and hematological biomarkers. Results: Clinical course of the disease was mild (49.1%), moderate (40.2%), and severe (10.7%). Median Ct value was 28.2 (IQR: 22.2–33.8) during the first week of the disease. Ct values were lower within five days after symptom onset [lowest Ct value on the third day (median: 24, IQR: 20.6–32.3)], but they increased significantly during the second and third weeks. No association was detected between admission Ct values and disease severity. Gender, age, co-morbidity, and mortality did not differ significantly in patients with low (≤ 25) and high (> 25) Ct values. White blood cell, neutrophil, platelet, and especially lymphocyte counts, were significantly lower in patients with low Ct values. Conclusions: No definitive/clear correlation between SARS-CoV-2 viral load and severity and mortality was found in the studied COVID-19 patients. However, neutrophil, platelet, and especially lymphocyte count were significantly lower in patients with a high viral load.

Child Abuse as an Example of Coexistence of Emotional and Physical Trauma Among Children: An Academic Overview With Altmetric Perspective

Introduction: Child abuse combines emotional, physical, sexual, and neglect aspects of violence, thus diversifying the trauma for a child. Publications about child abuse had been discussed in academia for long years and evaluated by bibliometric analysis, frequently. This study aims to evaluate the most discussed/disseminated scientific publications about child abuse in electronic media such as social media accounts, blogs, podcasts, and media news sites using a new analysis method called altmetric analysis.

Methods: The data were obtained from the Altmetric Explorer database using the phrase “child abuse,” in 2021. After being ranked by altmetric attention score (AAS), descriptive statistics for all publications as well as detailed analyses for the first-100 publications were performed. Variables evaluated were AAS, dimensions-badge value, distribution of web sources, demographic/geographic-breakdown type distributions, main subject categories, and mesh terms. Kruskal Wallis test was used for AAS and dimensions-badge value comparisons while Spearman correlations and regression analysis were also performed. Analyses were performed by SPSS 23.0 (IBM SPSS, Inc., Chicago, IL, USA) and p<0.05 was considered statistically significant.

Results: Publications about child abuse were shared extensively on social media, mostly on Twitter. In terms of the main subject, sexual abuse was the trending topic, followed by physical abuse and maltreatment. Psychology, studies in human society, health sciences, and law/legal issues were the four main science categories about the subject. The United States was the major disseminator of publications while Child Abuse and Neglect was the most productive journal. There was a weak but significant (p<0.05) positive correlation between AAS and dimensions-badge values.

Conclusion: Child abuse is a multidimensional subject in social media. As the number of publications increases, the possibility of articles to be shared on different social media platforms also increases. The majority of the top-100 publications are the ones emphasizing the importance of child abuse in terms of the prevalence, individual/social burden, and negative consequences.

A Pilot Study for IgE as a Prognostic Biomarker in COVID-19

Background

Laboratory biomarkers to estimate the severity of COVID‐19 are crucial during the pandemic, since resource allocation must be carefully planned.

Aim

In the present study, we aim to evaluate the effects of basal serum total immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels and changes in inflammatory parameters on the clinical progression of patients hospitalized with COVID‐19.

Methods

Patients hospitalized with confirmed COVID‐19 were included in the study. Laboratory data and total IgE levels were measured upon admission. Lymphocyte, eosinophil, ferritin, d‐dimer and CRP parameters were recorded on the baseline and on the 3^rd and 14^th days of hospitalization.

Results

The study enrolled 202 patients, of which 102(50.5%) were males. The average age was 50.17 ± 19.68. Of the COVID‐19 patients, 41 (20.3%) showed clinical progression. Serum total IgE concentrations were markedly higher (172.90 [0‐2124] vs 38.70 [0‐912], p<0.001) and serum eosinophil levels were significantly lower (0.015 [0‐1.200] vs 0.040 [0‐1.360], p=0.002) in clinically worsened COVID‐19 patients when compared to stable patients. The optimal cut‐off for predicting clinical worsening was 105.2 ng/L; with 61% sensitivity, 82% specificity, 46.3% positive predictive value and 89.2% negative predictive value (area under the curve=0.729). Multivariable analysis to define risk factors for disease progression identified higher total IgE and CRP levels as independent predictors.

Conclusions

Our single‐center pilot study determined that total IgE levels may be a negative prognostic factor for clinical progression in patients hospitalized due to COVID‐19 infection. Future studies are required to determine the impact of individuals' underlying immune predispositions on outcomes of COVID‐19 infections.

Frequency of overactive bladder (OAB) and the factors affecting it in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS)

PURPOSE

To investigate the prevalence of overactive bladder (OAB) in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) and the factors affecting it.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

A total of 255 patients were included in this prospectively designed study. Among all patients, 166 were male, 89 were female; 213 patients were married and 42 were single. All patients underwent polysomnography. All patients completed the OAB-V8 form. OSAS was diagnosed via polysomnography. OAB was diagnosed via OABV8. The participants were evaluated as patients with and without OAB and those with and without OSAS. SPSS for Windows version 18.0 software was used for the statistical analysis and the level of significance was set at α = 0.05.

RESULTS

The prevalence of OAB was high among the OSAS patients (66.3%, n = 136). Age, body mass index, waist circumference, marital status, oxygen desaturation index (ODI4) ⩾4%, apneahypopnea index (AHI), the number and duration of decreases in O₂ saturation below 90%, wake after sleep onset (WASO) duration, and groups, and OSAS severity were different in the OAB group (p < 0.05). Duration and number of O₂ saturation <90%, and ODI4 are higher in the OSAS group and OAB group (p < 0.05). In multivariate logistic regression analysis, AHI, WASO, age, and marital status were the factors influencing OAB.

CONCLUSION

OAB is seen at a high rate in OSAS patients. Hypoxia is the main basis for both diseases and probably it is the common pathway. AHI, WASO, age, and marital status can provide valuable information to physicians for predicting OAB.

Evaluation of peripheral inflammatory markers, serum B12, folate, ferritin levels and clinical correlations in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)

AIM

The aim of the current study is to compare serum B12, folate, and ferritin levels and peripheral inflammatory indicators between children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and healthy controls (HC) and to evaluate the correlation of those with symptoms.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

A total of 203 children were evaluated (ASD = 72; ADHD = 61; HC = 70). Diagnoses of ASD and ADHD were ascertained according to Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School-Age Children - Present and Lifetime Version (K-SADS-PL). Control group was chosen among the healthy children who applied to general pediatrics outpatient clinic. Gilliam Autism Rating Scale-2 is used to assess autistic symptoms and Atilla Turgay DSM-IV Based Child and Adolescent Behavior Disorders Screening and Rating Scale is used for ADHD symptoms.

RESULTS

Neutrophil levels (p = 0.014) and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) (p = 0.016) were higher in the ADHD and ASD groups compared to HC. Neutrophil values explained 70.1% of the variance across groups while NLR explained a further 29.9% of the variance. NLR significantly correlated with social interaction problems in ASD (r = 0.26, p = 0.04). There were no significant differences between groups in terms of vitamin B12, folate and ferritin levels.

CONCLUSION

Our results may support involvement of inflammation in the underlying pathophysiology of neurodevelopmental disorders. However, these parameters should be analyzed in a wider population to clarify the effect on the etiology and symptomatology of neurodevelopmental disorders.

Sarcopenia assessment by new EWGSOP2 criteria for predicting chemotherapy dose-limiting toxicity in patients with gastrointestinal tract tumors

INTRODUCTION

In 2019, The EWGSOP2 group made updates on the definition and diagnosis of sarcopenia. The aim of this study is to determine the possible risk factors for chemotherapy dose-limiting toxicity (DLT).

METHODS

Newly diagnosed gastrointestinal (GI) cancer patients were included in this prospective observational study. Chemotherapy DLTs were recorded in patients receiving platinum-based therapy. The patients were divided into two groups according to the current sarcopenia criteria.

RESULTS

75 patients were included in the final analysis. Chemotherapy DLT occurred in 52% (n = 39) of all patients who received platinum-based chemotherapy. DLT rates were 78.9% and 42.9% in sarcopenic and non-sarcopenic patients, respectively (p = 0.007). According to the results of the multivariate analysis, the only sarcopenia was found as a statistically significant risk factor for DLT.

CONCLUSION

Assessment of sarcopenia evaluated with the current EWGSOP2 diagnostic criteria is useful in predicting chemotherapy DLT development in patients with a diagnosis of GI cancer. In the future, current EWGSOP2 recommendations should be considered while designing a study investigating the correlation between sarcopenia and chemotoxicity.

The Relationship Between Symptom Severity and Caregiver Burden in Cancer Patients Under Palliative Care: A Cross-Sectional Study

BACKGROUND

Hospitalization is a stressful experience both for primary caregivers (PCs) and cancer patients alike. Although there is significant evidence that PCs of cancer patients can experience significant caregiver burden (CB), less is known about the relationships between PCs and patient symptom severity that influence CB. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, measures of the symptom severity were obtained from cancer patients. The PCs were assessed for CB. Associations between patients' symptoms and demographic characteristics and CB were investigated using multivariate analyses. Results: A total of 98 participants (patient-caregiver dyads) filled the questionnaires. According to the Zarit Burden Interview results, 65.3% of PCs had a high CB. Pain, tiredness, nausea, depression, drowsiness, well-being, and dyspnea had significantly higher mean values in those with high CB (p < .05). Financial difficulties, first-degree relationships with the patient, higher anxiety levels, and more pronounced tiredness appear to be the variables most predictive with high CB. Conclusion: In conclusion, the present study showed CB of PCs among a group of hospitalized incurable cancer patients. PCs of more symptomatic cancer patients had a higher CB, according to our findings. This emphasized the significance of palliative care. Appropriate guidance should be provided for the psychostress caused by the CB.

Is common carotid artery intima-media thickness (cIMT) a risk assessment marker in children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder?

OBJECTIVE

Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is associated with impairment in social, academic and job-related functioning in both children and adults. The purpose of this study is to investigate the susceptibility to cardiovascular risk factors in children with ADHD diagnosis through common carotid artery intima-media thickness (cIMT) measurement, to compare cIMT in ADHD and control groups and to evaluate the association between cIMT and ADHD symptom severity.

METHODS

The mean cIMT of 42 children with ADHD, ADHD symptom scales and a semi-structured psychiatric interview, and 42 age and sex matched healthy controls were measured with B-mode Doppler neck ultrasonography.

RESULTS

The median cIMT was significantly higher for the ADHD group compared to the healthy controls. There was a statistically significant, negative, moderate correlation between cIMT and Conners ADHD index score, hyperactivity score, oppositional score and the presence of ODD comorbidity.

CONCLUSIONS

In this study, we found significantly higher cIMT in children with ADHD when compared to healthy controls. Considering that increased cIMT is a sign of atherosclerosis and it can be used as a marker of cardiovascular risk factors, our finding may indicate that children with ADHD are at increased risk for cardiovascular diseases.KeypointscIMT was significantly higher in children with ADHD when compared to healthy controls.Higher cIMT in children with ADHD may indicate that children with ADHD are at increased risk for cardiovascular diseases.cIMT measurement may be studied as a potential tool for risk assessment before a child with ADHD is started on psychostimulant medications.

What is the relationship between obesity and new circadian rhythm parameters in Turkish children and adolescents? A case-control study

BACKGROUND

Although the relationship between circadian rhythm parameters and obesity in children and adolescents is recognized, there are few studies on this topic. The concept of sleep-corrected social jetlag (SJLsc) has been formulated recently, but its relationship with childhood obesity has not yet been established. Therefore, we thought that SJL might play an important role in the etiology of obesity. Accordingly, we aimed to compare circadian rhythm parameters between obese and normal-weight children and adolescents.

METHODS

Seventy-nine obese and eighty-two normal-weight children and adolescents aged between 8 and 17 years participated in this case-control study, which took place in the Mardin province of Turkey. Data were collected with a sociodemographic information form, the Childhood Chronotype Questionnaire, and anthropometric measurements.

RESULTS

The average ages of the obese participants and controls were 12.3 ± 2.3 and 12.4 ± 2.2 years, respectively. Obese young people had greater evening preference, longer sleep debt duration, SJL duration and SJLsc duration, and higher Morningness-Eveningness Scale (MeScale) scores; and shorter mean sleep duration (p<0.005). In regression analyses, BMI z scores were significantly correlated with all circadian rhythm parameters, except SJLsc duration, while WC z scores were significantly correlated with all circadian rhythm parameters, except mean sleep duration. After adjustment, the high MeScale scores (OR: 1.142, p<0.05) and the presence of psychiatric disorder in the mother (OR: 15.075, p<0.05) were associated with obesity.

CONCLUSIONS

Circadian rhythm parameters can play an important role in the etiology of obesity. Future studies with larger samples and fewer confounding factors are needed to clarify the etiological factors.

An investigation of potential coronaphobia-related factors in adults and sleep quality relations

BACKGROUND

The study aimed to investigate potential coronaphobia-related factors in adults and to assess the relationship between coronaphobia and sleep quality.

METHODS

This cross-sectional study was conducted in 1262 participants. The Covid-19 Phobia Scale (C19P-S) and Jenkins Sleep Scale (JSS) were used to measure outcomes. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were constructed to determine risk factors for coronaphobia. Pearson correlation coefficient was used to assess the correlation between C19P-S and JSS.

RESULTS

The following risk factors were found to be associated with coronaphobia: gender, marital status, presence of chronic disease, staying home, and sleep disturbances. Female gender (OR = 2.23 and OR = 2.12), being married (OR = 1.31 and OR = 1.45), chronic disease status (OR = 1.39 and OR = 1.27), staying home (OR = 1.72 and OR = 1.35) and sleep disturbances (OR = 2.63 and OR = 2.49) were found to be associated with the likelihood of having a higher coronaphobia score (p < 0.05). Weak positive correlations were found between C19P-S and its subscales and JSS scores (p < 0.001).

CONCLUSIONS

Female gender, being married, having chronic diseases, staying home, and having sleep disturbances were found to be risk factors for having high coronaphobia scores. Moreover, the severity of coronaphobia was associated with sleep disturbances. These results should be considered in the management of coronaphobia.

miR-132 and miR-942 Expression Levels in Children with Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder: A Controlled Study

OBJECTIVE

Although attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a disease with high genetic transition, our knowledge about the mechanism of the disease is limited. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the levels of miR-132-3p and miR-942-5p that are associated with the dopamine carrier protein gene (DAT1) and dopamine receptor 5 (DRD5) genes, which have been shown to play a role in the development of ADHD.

METHODS

According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5th edition, 50 children diagnosed with ADHD and 48 healthy controls were included in the study. Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia Interview Schedule-Now and Lifetime Version-Turkish Adaptation was used to evaluate ADHD and the diagnoses accompanying ADHD. Quantitative Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction was used to evaluate miR-132-3p and miR-942-5p expression levels.

RESULTS

It was observed that miR-132-3p level (p = 0.001) was significantly higher with children with ADHD compared to the control group, and the level of miR-942-5p (p = 0.181) was higher in ADHD but did not reach statistically significant level.

CONCLUSION

In our study, we found that the increase in the miR-132-3p levels of children with ADHD may be a therapeutic target of the disease.

Factors Affecting Cecal Intubation Time in Colonoscopy: Impact of Obesity

Objective

This study aims to determine the factors that prolong cecal intubation time (CIT) and determine the effect of obesity on CIT measured using multiple indexes.

Methods

Patients who underwent elective colonoscopy between July 10, 2020, and January 20, 2021, were evaluated in this prospective observational study. Age, gender, constipation, bowel preparation, presence of diverticulosis, previous surgery history, auxiliary maneuver and additional analgesic requirement, cecum intubation length (CL) and obesity indices [body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR)] were analyzed. Factors affecting CIT were assessed by both univariate and multivariate logistic regression (LR) analyses.

Results

A total of 512 patients were analyzed. Mean CIT was 5.6 ± 1.6 min, and median CIT was 5.17 min. The CIT median was ≤5.17 min in 264 (51.5%) of the patients, and the CIT median was >5.17 min in 248 (48.5%). In the univariate LR results, young age, constipation, poor bowel preparation, increased CL, additional analgesic requirement, low WHtR, and low BMI (<25 kg/m2) were the factors that prolonged CIT (p <0.05). In the multivariate LR analysis results, WHtR >0.5 and BMI >30 kg/m2 were found to be independent factors that decrease CIT [OR: 0.01 (0.01 0.03) p <0.001; OR: 0.28 (0.13 0.57) p <0.001].

Conclusion

Younger age, low WHtR, low BMI, increased CL, constipation, inadequate bowel preparation, and the use of extra analgesics were found to be associated with longer CIT. When all factors were evaluated together, obesity measured by only WHtR (>0.5) and BMI (>30 kg/m2) were the best predictors of decreased CIT.

Use of EMDR-Derived Self-Help Intervention in Children in the Period of COVID-19: A Randomized-Controlled Study

Self-help treatments are an important intervention tool, with high accessibility and ease of application. To our knowledge, no research has previously been conducted on any self-help intervention derived from eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. In this study, we evaluated the mental health status of children not directly affected by the pandemic and investigated the effects of using an EMDR-derived self-help intervention in children as a low-intensity treatment. The mental health status of 178 children was evaluated online via the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children (STAIC) and Childhood Posttraumatic Stress Reaction Index (CPTS-RI). Then, children were randomly assigned to intervention and waitlist. A booklet containing EMDR-derived techniques was sent via the school online portal and the intervention was conducted. Posttests were administered 4 weeks later. The attrition rate was 45.5%, with 97 children completing the trial (intervention: 52; waitlist: 45). At baseline, 76.4% of children showed posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) above threshold. Results showed a statistically significant decrease in the posttest PTSS scores for the intervention group compared to waitlist. The intervention group had significant pre–post improvement on all but one subscale, while the waitlist group showed a significant increase in state anxiety on the STAIC. In conclusion, posttraumatic stress was found to be high in children during the COVID-19 outbreak period, and EMDR-derived self-help intervention appeared to be an effective psychosocial intervention tool.

Association between burnout, anxiety and insomnia in healthcare workers: a cross-sectional study

All healthcare workers (HCWs) encounter stress during in their working lives, and are constantly exposed to adverse conditions. The present study evaluates the relationship between burnout syndrome, anxiety levels and insomnia severity among healthcare workers, who mostly work in shifts. The Maslach Burnout Inventory, the Insomnia Severity Index and the Beck Anxiety Inventory were used to measure burnout, insomnia severity and anxiety status, respectively. This cross sectional study included a total of 1,011 HCWs and 679 (67.2%) of the study respondents were women. The respondents were aged 20-72, with a mean age of 35.67 ± 8.61 years. Fifty-eight percent (n = 589) of the participants were rotating shift workers. Working on-call led to a significant difference in all burnout parameters (for each, <0.001). Age and on-call duty were seen to lead to a significant difference in the severity of insomnia (p = 0.028, p < 0.001, respectively). The total ISI score was found to be statistically significant positively correlated with the MBI subscales and the total BAI score (for each, <0.001). An increased awareness of the impact of sleep deprivation, burnout and anxiety among HCWs and meaningful interventions promoting change within the healthcare system are needed.

The relationship between eGFR and capecitabine efficacy/toxicity in metastatic breast cancer

The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of capecitabine in metastatic breast cancer (mBC) according to the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). A total of 135 patients included in the final analysis were stratified into 3 categories according to baseline eGFR, i.e., eGFR <60 mL/min/1.73 m² (Group 1), eGFR 60-90 mL/min/1.73 m² (Group 2) and eGFR >90 mL/min/1.73 m² (Group 3). If a patient developed a level of toxicity that would lead to capecitabine dose reduction, this was recognized as dose-limiting toxicity (DLT). The dose was reduced due to toxicity in 95 cycles. A total of 95 DLTs were seen in 76 (56.2%) of the 135 patients. When 76 patients with DLT were evaluated according to eGFR, DLT was observed in 93.3% of those in Group 1, 72.5% of those in Group 2 and 41.3% of those in Group 3 (p < 0.001). The median time to progression (TTP) of all patients was 7.4 months. No significant difference in TTP was observed in patients stratified into 3 groups according to eGFR. When the patients were divided into two groups as DLT and without DLT, the median TTP was 8.68 months (95% CI, 7.53-9.81 months) in those with toxicity and 6.23 months (95% CI, 4.04-8.43 months) in those without toxicity (log-rank p = 0.004). We found a significant relationship between low eGFR and increased risk of DLT. Having a DLT was associated with a longer TTP. It indicates the need for more data/larger study investigating these discrepancies.

Relationship Between Oxidative Stress, Tau Level and Antioxidant Mechanisms of the KEAP-1/NRF-2/HO-1 in Children with Hydrocephalus

BACKGROUND

Hydrocephalus is a complex neurologic disorder which has a widespread impact on the central nervous system, and a multifactor disease which effect the CSF dynamics and causes severe neurological impairments in children. The pathophysiology of hydrocephalus is not fully understood. However, increasing evidence suggests that oxidative stress may be an important factor in the pathogenesis of hydrocephalus.

OBJECTIVE

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship of KEAP-1/NRF-2/HO-1 pathway, one of the main regulators of the antioxidant system in the hydrocephalus pathology, on oxidative stress and tau protein level.

METHODS

The study included 32 patients with hydrocephalus and 32 healthy controls. KEAP-1, NRF-2, HO-1, TAU, and MPO levels are measured using ELISA method TAS, TOS, Total THIOL colorimetric method.

RESULTS

KEAP-1, TAS, Total THIOL levels were found significantly low in the hydrocephalus group compared to the control group. Nevertheless, it is identified in the hydrocephalus group that the NRF-2, HO-1, TAU, MPO, TOS, and OSI levels were significantly elevated.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, although KEAP-1/NRF-2/HO-1 pathway is activated in patients with hydrocephalus, it is identified that the antioxidant defense system is insufficient, and ultimately leads to elevated oxidative stress. The elevation in the tau level may be an indicator of oxidative stress induced neurodegenerative damage.

Classical versus non-classical EGFR mutations: Erlotinib response and impact of renal insufficiency

INTRODUCTION

Erlotinib is an effective treatment option for EGFR-mutant non-small cell lung cancer. It is important to predict patients who will respond better to erlotinib. We designed this study to investigate the effect of renal insufficiency (RI) on erlotinib treatment outcomes.

METHODS

All patients receiving erlotinib were stratified into 3 groups. Group 1 consisted of non-RI subjects with classical epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations, Group 2 consisted of those with RI (Estimated glomerular filtration rate <60 mL/min) and classical EGFR mutations, and Group 3 consisted of those with non-classical EGFR mutations.

RESULTS

82 patients were included in the study. Median progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with classical mutation was approximately 6 months shorter in those with RI, although not statistically significant. Median overall survival (OS) in Group 1, 2 and 3 was 34.1 months, 35.2 months, and 15 months, respectively and although not statistically significant, median OS was 20 months shorter in Group 3. Univariate and multivariate cox-regression analysis revealed shorter PFS and OS in males and those with ECOG ≥2 while PFS and OS were longer in those with recurrent lung tumors and generating rash during erlotinib treatment. There was no difference between RI and non-RI patients in terms of adverse events except for fatigue and appetite loss.

CONCLUSIONS

This research showed OS in patients with and without RI was comparable. Although not statistically significant, PFS in patients with classical mutation was approximately 6 months shorter in those with RI patients.

Comparison of the protective effects of selective endothelin-a receptor antagonist, ambrisentan, and dual endothelin-A/B receptor antagonist, bosentan, in experimental renal ischemia reperfusion injury

AIM

This study aims to compare the protective effects of ambrisentan, a selective endothelin typeA receptor antagonist, and bosentan, a dual endothelin typeA/B receptor antagonist, on experimental renal ischemia reperfusion injury.

METHOD

The study sample consisted of 21 female rats, which were divided into 3 groups: Control, Ambrisentan and Bosentan. For the ischemia-reperfusion injury model, left‑kidney nephrectomy was performed after sacrificing the animals. In the immunohistochemical examination, caspase-3 was examined, and then the apoptotic index was determined. In the biochemical examination, the activities of malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase, and the levels of nitrite (NOx), TNF-α, and IL-1β were determined.

RESULTS

There were statistically significant differences between the groups in terms of total injury score grade in range of 0‒3 (p=0.001).The glomerular and tubular apoptotic indices were higher in the control group as compared to those of the ambrisentan and bosentan groups (p=0.001).There were no statistically significant differences in terms of SOD, CAT, GPx, MDA, IL-1β and TNF-α measurements among the groups (p>0.05).

CONCLUSIONS

In the experimentally created renal ischemia reperfusion model, both ambrisentan and bosentan increased the NOx level, decreased the apoptosis, and protected the kidney from renal ischemia reperfusion injury. However, no significant superiority was found between ambrisentan and bosentan in terms of their protective effects (Tab. 3, Fig. 2, Ref. 31).

Prevalence of psychiatric symptoms among refugee adolescents in Turkey: a controlled study

Objective:

To investigate prevalence of internalized and externalized psychological symptoms and war-related adverse events among a representative secondary-school sample of Syrian refugee adolescents, and to compare levels of depression, anxiety, and stress between Syrian refugee adolescents and Turkish adolescents.

Methods:

Syrian refugee adolescents (n=70) and Turkish adolescents (n=70) were asked to complete the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scales (DASS-42) and Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ).

Results:

DASS and SDQ scores were significantly different between the two groups; scores in all problem areas were higher in refugees. Loss of a family member increased depression, stress, and total difficulty scored, whereas witnessing death increased anxiety and stress and experiencing multiple events increased depression, anxiety, and total difficulty scores. Maternal years of schooling correlated inversely with SDQ emotional symptoms, conduct problems, and hyperactivity/inattention problem scores. Both parents’ years of schooling correlated inversely with SDQ total difficulties scores.

Conclusion:

Syrian refugee adolescents had higher depression, anxiety, behavioral problems, peer relationship problems, and general difficulties than their Turkish peers. Facilitating refugees’ access to mental health services, educating their parents, consulting, and monitoring at-risk children may contribute to reducing psychosocial problems in refugee children.

Investigating the Levels of Brain-Specific Proteins in Hydrocephalus Patients

BACKGROUND

Hydrocephalus, a common brain disorder in children, can cause permanent brain damage. A timely diagnosis of this disorder is crucial.

OBJECTIVE

The aim of this study was to evaluate the levels of S-100, CK-18, and NSE brainspecific proteins in patients with hydrocephalus. We examined the levels of these proteins in the blood samples of hydrocephalic patients.

METHODS

The study was conducted on the hydrocephalus (n = 31) patients and a healthy control group (n = 30). A Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve was used to assess the validity of the NSE, CK-18, and S100B to differentiate between the hydrocephalus and the control groups. The suitability of the data to the normal distribution was tested with the Shapiro Wilk test, and the Student t-test was used to compare the characteristics of the normal distribution in two independent groups. The individuals in the hydrocephalus and control groups had similar values in terms of age, height, and weight.

RESULTS

It was observed that NSE, CK-18, and S100B mean values of the individuals in the hydrocephalus group were significantly higher than NSE, CK-18, and S100B mean values of the control group.

CONCLUSION

Experiments have shown that the levels of these proteins increase significantly in hydrocephalus patients compared to the healthy group. These three parameters can be considered as important markers in the diagnosis of hydrocephalus.

Comparison of 3-months treatment adherence and estimating residual apnea hypopnea index between home versus in-laboratory auto-titrating positive airway pressure titration

PURPOSE

We aimed to assess the accuracy of home titration in estimating apnea hypopnea index (AHI) and optimal pressure values and to compare improvements in subjective daytime sleepiness, sleep quality and quality of life, along with 3-months treatment adherence of patients that received at-home versus in-laboratory auto-titrating positive airway pressure (APAP) titration.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

In patients with a diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS), a study arm of laboratory attended APAP titration was compared with a study arm of home titration using an APAP device for three days. Subjective questionnaires were evaluated before and after 3 months of treatment.

RESULTS

Fifty-three patients with newly diagnosed OSAS were enrolled. There was a significant positive correlation between PSG AHI and APAP AHI (r_s  = 0.43, P = 0.003) and the fixed pressure for the APAP arm was positively correlated with the APAP PSG arm of the study (r_s  = 0.71, P < 0.001). When the Bland-Altman graphs were compared, it was seen that the measurements obtained by the APAP AHI method were 0.3 units higher than the PSG AHI measurements, and that the mean of the measurement differences between the two methods was not different than 0 (P [H₀ : Mean = 0] = 0.551). After 3 months of treatment, average nightly use was slightly higher in the APAP arm (P = 0.387).

CONCLUSIONS

The results indicate that both titration methods were not clinically inferior in terms of a fixed optimal pressure, residual events, 3-months treatment adherence and change in subjective sleepiness, sleep quality and quality of life after treatment.

The Role of Interferences in the Increasing Incidence of Vitamin D Deficiency

OBJECTIVE

Lipemia is one of the causes of interference in immunoassay and LC-MS/MS methods. Increased prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in the US, where obesity is gradually increasing, raises the suspicion that high levels of fat diet and blood lipid levels interfere with vitamin D measurement results. The focus of this study was to investigate the effect of blood lipid profiles on vitamin D results and prevent the matrix effect.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

In this study, 25OH vitamin D3 (25OHD3) levels of 100 samples consecutively accepted to biochemistry laboratory regardless of age and sex were measured by the LC-MS/MS method, and each sample was restudied after 1/10 dilution. After dilution restudy, two groups were obtained-group 1 (results deviating below 20%) and group 2 (results deviating above 20%)-and the difference between the groups was investigated. There were 79 patients in group 1 and 21 patients in group 2. In our study, lipid profiles (triglyceride, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL) from the same samples of consecutive vitamin D patients were studied.

RESULTS

It was observed that the triglyceride, total cholesterol HDL, LDL, and 25OHD3 measurements of group 1 and group 2 were similar (p > 0.05). While the mean vitamin D value in the second group was 9.94 ± 7.85, the mean vitamin D value after dilution was measured as 39.23 ± 18.13 and was statistically significant. 25OHD3 concentrations of 21 patients out of 100 were found to be falsely low. Measurements were repeated to confirm the results.

CONCLUSION

The matrix effect caused by exogenous and endogenous interferences in the blood could be a hidden factor increasing the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency by causing falsely low 25OHD3 values. Suspicious results should be remeasured by a dilution study.

EMDR therapy in children and adolescents who have post-traumatic stress disorder: a six-week follow-up study

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to explore whether eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) is an effective therapy and to investigate whether EMDR affects anxiety levels for children and adolescents.Methods: We conducted this study with 30 clients. The clients completed self-administered questionnaires Child Post-Traumatic Stress Reaction Index Scale and The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. The questionnaires were conducted before the therapy and 6 weeks after the completion of the therapy.Results: Nineteen clients (63%) had only one traumatic event, but 11 clients (37%) had more than one traumatic event. While the mean score on the PTSD symptom scale was 60 (±8.7), this rate decreased to 24 (±10.1), whereas the mean STAI-T scale was 59 (±8.9) before treatment and 41 (±11.5) after treatment. We found a statistically significant difference between symptom scores as quantified by both questionnaires before and after EMDR therapy (p < .05).Conclusions: As a result, we have shown that EMDR is an effective method for children and adolescents with PTSD in terms of both post-traumatic and anxiety symptom levels; however, we recommend a larger sample size with a control group to further establish the effectiveness of EMDR therapy in children.KEY POINTSPTSD is a common disorder in children and adolescents.Additional psychiatric disorders such as anxiety and depression are common in children and adolescents with PTSD.In PTSD cases applying for psychiatric treatment, trauma associated with sexual abuse is more pronounced and complex.EMDR is an effective therapy in children and adolescents as well as in adults.There is a statistically significant decrease at anxiety and PTSD symptom scores as quantified by questionnaires in patients with PTSD after EMDR therapy.

Novel inflammatory targets for immunotherapies in pediatric patients with trichotillomania

Immune dysregulation may be important in the etiology of obsessive-compulsive and related disordersandbody-focusedrepetitivebehaviors, such as Trichotillomania (TTM). The role of inflammation and inflammatory markers in TTM has received relatively little attention. This study was aimed to determine the expression levels of inflammatory markers (i.e. IL-1β, IL-1α, IL-4, IL-6, IL-17, TNF-α and TGF-β) in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of children with TTM and healthy controls and to evaluate their association with clinical variables. Seventy-seven patients with TTM and 107 healthy controls were enrolled in the study. Peripheral blood was collected in standardized conditions. The mean age of patients and controls did not differ significantly (10.8 ± 4.4 and 12.0 ± 3.2 years; respectively). The majority of patients with TTM and controls were females (n = 55, 71.4 % and n = 55, 51.4 %; respectively); with a greater preponderance of females among TTM. Patients with TTM had significantly elevated expression levels of TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-17 compared to controls. However, the expression level of IL-4 was significantly reduced in TTM patients compared to controls. Accordingly, we found a pro-inflammatory state in TTM and those findings may suggest novel treatment options for TTM and further, cross-disciplinary studies focusing on neuro- inflammation in TTM conducted on larger samples are needed.

Relationship of pneumococcal and influenza vaccination frequency with health literacy in the rural population in Turkey

INTRODUCTION

Vaccines have been shown to prevent illness, disability and death from vaccine-preventable diseases. The purpose of our study was to analyze the influenza and pneumococcal vaccination status of patients, the factors that influence the uptake of influenza/pneumococcal vaccination and the effects of health literacy (HL) on vaccination.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

In this cross-sectional study, demographic characteristics, comorbid diseases and the pneumococcal and influenza vaccination status in previous years were recorded for each patient. The Turkish version of the European Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire (HLS-EU-Q47) was used to assess HL.

RESULTS

A total of 350 patients were enrolled in the study. A total of 6.3% of patients had received both vaccines. 20% of subjects were vaccinated with influenza vaccine and 11.1% of the subjects were vaccinated with pneumococcal vaccine. Overall HL was insufficient for 70.9%, problematic for 20.6%, sufficient for 7.1% and excellent for 14.2% of patients. Patients who had pneumococcal and influenza vaccination had higher disease prevention HL scores (p = 0.013, p = 0.001; respectively).

DISCUSSION

An insufficient HL level was found to be much higher than previous studies. It was observed that an increase in disease prevention HL was associated with a rise in the rate of pneumococcal and influenza vaccination.

Chronotypical characteristics and related miR-142-3p levels of children with attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder

To compare children with Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and a healthy control group in terms of chronotype characteristics and miRNA-142-3p/miRNA-378 levels. 50 children with ADHD and 44 healthy children were included in the study. Childhood Chronotype Questionnaire was used to identify the chronotype preferences of children. Serum miR-142-3p and miR- 378 levels were determined. Preference for nighttime was higher in children with ADHD. Additionally, a night preference was found to be associated with attention deficit in both groups. While a significant correlation was found between the psychopathology rate in mothers and the presence of ADHD, there was no such correlation in fathers. In the comparison between children with ADHD and the control group, no significant difference was found between miRNA levels. Both the miR-142-3p and miR-378 values of the children with ADHD that have immediate relatives with a psychiatric disorder were lower, compared to control group. We found that shift to night preference in the circadian rhythm was higher and this preference was associated with attention deficit in the children with ADHD. In addition, the presence of psychopathology in the family and the mother's psychopathology affected the miR-142-3p and miR378 levels.
