Abstract
Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) are powerful in learning rich network representations that aid the performance of downstream tasks. However, recent studies showed that GNNs are vulnerable to adversarial attacks involving node injection and network perturbation. Among these, node injection attacks are more practical as they do not require manipulation in the existing network and can be performed more realistically. In this paper, we propose a novel problem statement - a class-specific poison attack on graphs in which the attacker aims to misclassify specific nodes in the target class into a different class using node injection. Additionally, nodes are injected in such a way that they camouflage as benign nodes. We propose NICKI, a novel attacking strategy that utilizes an optimization-based approach to sabotage the performance of GNN-based node classifiers. NICKI works in two phases - it first learns the node representation and then generates the features and edges of the injected nodes. Extensive experiments and ablation studies on four benchmark networks show that NICKI is consistently better than four baseline attacking strategies for misclassifying nodes in the target class. We also show that the injected nodes are properly camouflaged as benign, thus making the poisoned graph indistinguishable from its clean version w.r.t various topological properties.

Abstract
Sub-picosecond magnetisation manipulation via femtosecond optical pumping has attracted wide attention ever since its original discovery in 1996. However, the spatial evolution of the magnetisation is not yet well understood, in part due to the difficulty in experimentally probing such rapid dynamics. Here, we find evidence of a universal rapid magnetic order recovery in ferrimagnets with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy via nonlinear magnon processes. We identify magnon localisation and coalescence processes, whereby localised magnetic textures nucleate and subsequently interact and grow in accordance with a power law formalism. A hydrodynamic representation of the numerical simulations indicates that the appearance of noncollinear magnetisation via optical pumping establishes exchange-mediated spin currents with an equivalent 100% spin polarised charge current density of 107 A cm-2. Such large spin currents precipitate rapid recovery of magnetic order after optical pumping. The magnon processes discussed here provide new insights for the stabilization of desired meta-stable states.

Abstract
Using ultrafast ≃2.5 fs and ≃25 fs self-amplified spontaneous emission pulses of increasing intensity and a novel experimental scheme, we report the concurrent increase of stimulated emission in the forward direction and loss of out-of-beam diffraction contrast for a Co/Pd multilayer sample. The experimental results are quantitatively accounted for by a statistical description of the pulses in conjunction with the optical Bloch equations. The dependence of the stimulated sample response on the incident intensity, coherence time, and energy jitter of the employed pulses reveals the importance of increased control of x-ray free electron laser radiation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The advent of high-performance computing (HPC) in recent years has led to its increasing use in brain studies through computational models. The scale and complexity of such models are constantly increasing, leading to challenging computational requirements. Even though modern HPC platforms can often deal with such challenges, the vast diversity of the modeling field does not permit for a homogeneous acceleration platform to effectively address the complete array of modeling requirements. APPROACH In this paper we propose and build BrainFrame, a heterogeneous acceleration platform that incorporates three distinct acceleration technologies, an Intel Xeon-Phi CPU, a NVidia GP-GPU and a Maxeler Dataflow Engine. The PyNN software framework is also integrated into the platform. As a challenging proof of concept, we analyze the performance of BrainFrame on different experiment instances of a state-of-the-art neuron model, representing the inferior-olivary nucleus using a biophysically-meaningful, extended Hodgkin-Huxley representation. The model instances take into account not only the neuronal-network dimensions but also different network-connectivity densities, which can drastically affect the workload's performance characteristics. MAIN RESULTS The combined use of different HPC technologies demonstrates that BrainFrame is better able to cope with the modeling diversity encountered in realistic experiments while at the same time running on significantly lower energy budgets. Our performance analysis clearly shows that the model directly affects performance and all three technologies are required to cope with all the model use cases. SIGNIFICANCE The BrainFrame framework is designed to transparently configure and select the appropriate back-end accelerator technology for use per simulation run. The PyNN integration provides a familiar bridge to the vast number of models already available. Additionally, it gives a clear roadmap for extending the platform support beyond the proof of concept, with improved usability and directly useful features to the computational-neuroscience community, paving the way for wider adoption.

Abstract
Symmetry breaking and the emergence of order is one of the most fascinating phenomena in condensed matter physics. It leads to a plethora of intriguing ground states found in antiferromagnets, Mott insulators, superconductors, and density-wave systems. Exploiting states of matter far from equilibrium can provide even more striking routes to symmetry-lowered, ordered states. Here, we demonstrate for the case of elemental chromium that moderate ultrafast photoexcitation can transiently enhance the charge-density-wave (CDW) amplitude by up to 30% above its equilibrium value, while strong excitations lead to an oscillating, large-amplitude CDW state that persists above the equilibrium transition temperature. Both effects result from dynamic electron-phonon interactions, providing an efficient mechanism to selectively transform a broad excitation of the electronic order into a well-defined, long-lived coherent lattice vibration. This mechanism may be exploited to transiently enhance order parameters in other systems with coupled degrees of freedom.

Abstract
We use polarization- and temperature-dependent x-ray absorption spectroscopy, in combination with photoelectron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, and electronic transport measurements, to study the driving force behind the insulator-metal transition in VO_{2}. We show that both the collapse of the insulating gap and the concomitant change in crystal symmetry in homogeneously strained single-crystalline VO_{2} films are preceded by the purely electronic softening of Coulomb correlations within V-V singlet dimers. This process starts 7 K (±0.3 K) below the transition temperature, as conventionally defined by electronic transport and x-ray diffraction measurements, and sets the energy scale for driving the near-room-temperature insulator-metal transition in this technologically promising material.

Abstract
We report the direct observation of a localized magnetic soliton in a spin-transfer nanocontact using scanning transmission x-ray microscopy. Experiments are conducted on a lithographically defined 150 nm diameter nanocontact to an ultrathin ferromagnetic multilayer with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. Element-resolved x-ray magnetic circular dichroism images show an abrupt onset of a magnetic soliton excitation localized beneath the nanocontact at a threshold current. However, the amplitude of the excitation ≃25° at the contact center is far less than that predicted (⪅180°), showing that the spin dynamics is not described by existing models.

Abstract
We have used a MHz lock-in x-ray spectromicroscopy technique to directly detect changes in magnetic moment of Cu due to spin injection from an adjacent Co layer. The elemental and chemical specificity of x rays allows us to distinguish two spin current induced effects. We detect the creation of transient magnetic moments of 3×10^{-5}μ_{B} on Cu atoms within the bulk of the 28 nm thick Cu film due to spin accumulation. The moment value is compared to predictions by Mott's two current model. We also observe that the hybridization induced existing magnetic moments at the Cu interface atoms are transiently increased by about 10% or 4×10^{-3}μ_{B} per atom. This reveals the dominance of spin-torque alignment over Joule heat induced disorder of the interfacial Cu moments during current flow.

Abstract
Odontomas are nonaggressive, hamartomatous developmental malformations composed of mature tooth substances and may be compound or complex depending on the extent of morphodifferentiation or on their resemblance to normal teeth. Among them, complex odontomas are relatively rare tumors. They are usually asymptomatic in nature. Occasionally, these tumors become large, causing bone expansion followed by facial asymmetry. Odontoma eruptions are uncommon, and thus far, very few cases of erupted complex odontomas have been reported in the literature. Abstract
As the oldest known magnetic material, magnetite (Fe3O4) has fascinated mankind for millennia. As the first oxide in which a relationship between electrical conductivity and fluctuating/localized electronic order was shown, magnetite represents a model system for understanding correlated oxides in general. Nevertheless, the exact mechanism of the insulator-metal, or Verwey, transition has long remained inaccessible. Recently, three-Fe-site lattice distortions called trimerons were identified as the characteristic building blocks of the low-temperature insulating electronically ordered phase. Here we investigate the Verwey transition with pump-probe X-ray diffraction and optical reflectivity techniques, and show how trimerons become mobile across the insulator-metal transition. We find this to be a two-step process. After an initial 300 fs destruction of individual trimerons, phase separation occurs on a 1.5±0.2 ps timescale to yield residual insulating and metallic regions. This work establishes the speed limit for switching in future oxide electronics.

Abstract
This is a prospective incidence study of 250 secondary post-tonsillectomy haemorrhages from a population of 2706 tonsillectomies performed over a seven-year period, which aims to ascertain the incidence and character of post-tonsillectomy secondary haemorrhage. Out of 250 post-tonsillectomy secondary bleeds (9.2 per cent of total; 95 per cent CI = 8.2 per cent - 10.4 per cent), 39 patients had a severe bleed (1.4 per cent; 95 per cent CI = 1.2 per cent - 2.1 per cent). The incidence of secondary tonsillectomy haemorrhage increased with age, peaking at 30-34 years in both men and women (p < 0.001), with no statistically significant difference between the two sexes (p = 0.23). The incidence of serious haemorrhage increases in the older age categories (p = 0.005) but is not influenced by gender (p = 0.50). The majority of secondary tonsillectomy haemorrhages presented between the fourth and seventh day post-operation (69.8 per cent). These results now provide the basis for informed consent for a tonsillectomy in our department.

Abstract
A novel class of Cathepsin B inhibitors has been developed with a 1,2,4-thiadiazole heterocycle as the thiol trapping pharmacophore. Several compounds with different dipeptide recognition sequence (i.e., P1'-P2'=Leu-Pro-OH or P2-P1=Cbz-Phe-Ala) at the C5 position and with different substituents (i.e., OMe, Ph, or COOH) at the C3 position of the 1,2,4-thiadiazole ring have been synthesized and tested for their inhibitory activities. The substituted thiadiazoles 3a-h inhibit Cat B in a time dependent, irreversible manner. A mechanism based on active-site directed inactivation of the enzyme by disulfide bond formation between the active site cysteine thiol and the sulfur atom of the heterocycle is proposed. Compound 3a (K(i)=2.6 microM, k(i)K(i)=5630 M(-1)s(-1)) with a C3 methoxy moiety and a Leu-Pro-OH dipeptide recognition sequence, is found to be the most potent inhibitor in this series. The enhanced inhibitory potency of 3a is a consequence of its increased enzyme binding affinity (lower K(i)) rather than its increased intrinsic reactivity (higher k(i)). In addition, 3a is inactive against Cathepsin S, is a poor inhibitor of Cathepsin H and is >100-fold more selective for Cat B over papain.

Abstract
Mandates for more rapid treatment of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) are driving public education initiatives aimed at having patients present earlier in the course of their symptoms. This will make it less likely that markers of necrosis will provide the level of diagnostic sensitivity needed. In fact, the goal is to identify and treat these patients sooner in order to prevent necrosis from occurring. Given the limitations of the standard 12-lead ECG to detect ischemia, other technologies are being evaluated: the value of echocardiography and technetium-based myocardial perfusion imaging have been proven. However, the goal is to develop a simple, rapid-turn-around biochemical marker that can provide this same function, and clear progress is being made toward this end. Emergent, rapid restoration of blood flow via pharmacologic revascularization or primary percutaneous interventions can reduce morbidity and mortality when applied in the setting of acute myocardial injury seen on the ECG. Exciting new research suggests that the protection of myocytes against ischemic injury is possible if initiated early, which can limit cellular damage and improve clinical outcomes. Thus, the ability to rapidly detect ischemia will have profound therapeutic possibilities that could further reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with acute coronary syndrome.

Abstract
Previous studies have argued that enhanced activity of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway can promote tumor cell survival in response to cytotoxic insults. In this study, we examined the impact of MAPK signaling on the survival of primary hepatocytes exposed to low concentrations of deoxycholic acid (DCA, 50 microM). Treatment of hepatocytes with DCA caused MAPK activation, which was dependent upon ligand independent activation of EGFR, and downstream signaling through Ras and PI(3) kinase. Neither inhibition of MAPK signaling alone by MEK1/2 inhibitors, nor exposure to DCA alone, enhanced basal hepatocyte apoptosis, whereas inhibition of DCA-induced MAPK activation caused approximately 25% apoptosis within 6 h. Similar data were also obtained when either dominant negative EGFR-CD533 or dominant negative Ras N17 were used to block MAPK activation. DCA-induced apoptosis correlated with sequential cleavage of procaspase 8, BID, procaspase 9, and procaspase 3. Inhibition of MAPK potentiated bile acid-induced apoptosis in hepatocytes with mutant FAS-ligand, but did not enhance in hepatocytes that were null for FAS receptor expression. These data argues that DCA is causing ligand independent activation of the FAS receptor to stimulate an apoptotic response, which is counteracted by enhanced ligand-independent EGFR/MAPK signaling. In agreement with FAS-mediated cell killing, inhibition of caspase function with the use of dominant negative Fas-associated protein with death domain, a caspase 8 inhibitor (Ile-Glu-Thr-Asp-p-nitroanilide [IETD]) or dominant negative procaspase 8 blocked the potentiation of bile acid-induced apoptosis. Inhibition of bile acid-induced MAPK signaling enhanced the cleavage of BID and release of cytochrome c from mitochondria, which were all blocked by IETD. Despite activation of caspase 8, expression of dominant negative procaspase 9 blocked procaspase 3 cleavage and the potentiation of DCA-induced apoptosis. Treatment of hepatocytes with DCA transiently increased expression of the caspase 8 inhibitor proteins c-FLIP-(S) and c-FLIP-(L) that were reduced by inhibition of MAPK or PI(3) kinase. Constitutive overexpression of c-FLIP-(s) abolished the potentiation of bile acid-induced apoptosis. Collectively, our data argue that loss of DCA-induced EGFR/Ras/MAPK pathway function potentiates DCA-stimulated FAS-induced hepatocyte cell death via a reduction in the expression of c-FLIP isoforms.

Abstract
Selenium levels and the activity of Selenoenzyme glutathione peroxidase were measure in whole blood in order to assess the selenium status. Delayed type of hypersensitivity (DTH) reaction was suppressed significantly in selenium deficient rats indicating the decrease in cellular immunity. The B cell function was impaired in selenium deficient rats as evident from decrease in the number of plaque forming cells and antibody titre. Selenium supplementation for 30 days recovered the DTH response and B cell function to a marked extent.

Abstract
Feeding of selenium deficient diet to albino rats for 75 days resulted in increased levels of plasma and adrenal glucocorticoids and atrophy of spleen and thymus. Supplementing the diet with selenium for 30 days resulted in recovery of atrophy of spleen and thymus; plasma and adrenal glucocorticoid levels were also restored back to the normal.

Abstract
The role of selenium in the diet of rats has been examined with respect to the neutrophil functions. Feeding of Se-deficient diet for 75 days resulted in reduction in candidacidal activity, superoxide production, oxygen consumption, glucose utilisation and glutathione peroxidase activity. Supplementing the diet with Se for 30 days resulted in partial restoration of all the activities.

Abstract
A sandwich ELISA to detect specific protein antigens of Mycobacterium tuberculosis was developed by using polyclonal anti-BCG rabbit antibodies as the primary capture antibodies. The mycobacterial antigens were detected with horseradish peroxidase conjugated monoclonal antibodies (P 6) as secondary antibodies. The enzyme was detected by using 1,2 Phenylenediamine dihydrochloride (OPD) and Hydrogen peroxide as substrate. The antigen could be quantitated through linear regression analysis with lower detection limit of 1.25 micrograms/ml. 50 consecutive cases of infertility were examined by laparoscopy and tested for the presence of the antigen in the serum. Mycobacterial antigen could be detected in 9 of the 12 cases with definitive diagnosis of tuberculosis, 5 of the 23 where the diagnosis of tuberculosis was probable and in only 1 of 15 patients who had no laparoscopic abnormalities indicative of tuberculosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE We investigated the chemical identity of the endothelium-derived relaxing factor generated by acetylcholine in cerebral microvessels by studying the effects and mechanism of action of inhibitors of nitric oxide synthesis from arginine on the vasodilation and endothelium-derived relaxing factor production induced by topical application of acetylcholine in cerebral arterioles. METHODS We determined cerebral arteriolar dilation and endothelium-derived relaxing factor production by bioassay in anesthetized cats equipped with cranial windows during superfusion of 10(-7) M acetylcholine before and after administration of either NG-monomethyl L-arginine or NG-nitro-L-arginine, two inhibitors of nitric oxide synthesis. RESULTS NG-Nitro-L-arginine abolished the vasodilation from acetylcholine and eliminated the production of endothelium-derived relaxing factor in the bioassay experiments. NG-Monomethyl L-arginine had no effect on the response to acetylcholine in the absence of pretreatment. However, after pretreatment with the detergent sodium dodecyl sulfate to increase cell membrane permeability, the inhibitor had effects identical to those of NG-nitro-L-arginine. L-Arginine reversed the effects of the inhibitors of nitric oxide synthesis. Neither inhibitor affected baseline vascular caliber, nor did they generate a vasoconstrictor agent in the bioassay experiments. The two inhibitors of nitric oxide synthesis did not affect the response to nitroprusside or adenosine, showing that the effect on responses to acetylcholine was specific. Also, the blockade of the response to acetylcholine induced by the inhibitors of nitric oxide synthesis was unaffected by treatment with superoxide dismutase and catalase, showing that the effect was not mediated by oxygen radicals. CONCLUSION The endothelium-derived relaxing factor generated by acetylcholine in cerebral arterioles of cats is either nitric oxide or a nitric oxide-containing substance. The effect of these inhibitors on the response to acetylcholine is mediated by inhibition of the synthesis of nitric oxide. There is no involvement of radicals, and no vasoconstrictor agent is generated.
