Abstract
OBJECTIVE By presenting a case study on multiple instances of Bowen's disease and the consistent use of narrow-band ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) phototherapy over a three-year period, our aim is to enhance the comprehension of domestic clinicians regarding the disease. Additionally, we seek to review existing literature, encouraging dermatologists to consider clinical secondary primary lesion diagnoses. METHOD Our approach involves analyzing a diagnosed case of multiple Bowen's disease, examining clinical manifestations, histopathology, imaging results, and treatment methods related to NB-UVB phototherapy. We aim to facilitate discussion and understanding through a comprehensive literature analysis. RESULTS An elderly male with a 30-year history of psoriasis vulgaris initiated continuous NB-UVB therapy three years ago. A year later, he developed red patches and plaques with distinct borders and scaly surfaces on his face, trunk, lower extremities, and scrotum. Histopathological examination confirmed Bowen's disease. Treatment involved liquid nitrogen cryotherapy, with no recurrence observed during the one-year follow-up. CONCLUSION This case highlights that Bowen's disease, typically solitary, can manifest as multiple instances, especially in individuals with a history of psoriasis vulgaris. While NB-UVB stands as the primary treatment for psoriasis vulgaris, caution is warranted due to the potential risk of skin tumor induction with prolonged high-dose usage. Clinicians should be vigilant in monitoring and assessing the long-term implications of such therapies.

Abstract
PURPOSE Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare neuroendocrine tumor of the skin, which mainly occurs in the sun exposed sites of white patients over 65 years, with a higher recurrence and metastasis rate. Clinically, MCC overlapping Bowen's disease (BD) is a very rare subtype of MCC. Few cases in the literature have been described and the management is not well defined. We summarize and update the epidemiology, clinical and histopathological features, metastasis characteristics, local recurrence rate and management of it by presenting two cases of MCC overlapping BD and reviewing the literature over the last 11 years. DESIGN We consulted databases from PubMed, ResearchGate and Google Scholar by MeSh "Merkel cell carcinoma" and "Bowen's disease", "Bowen disease" or "squamous cell carcinoma in situ", from January 2013 to December 2023 and reviewed the literatures. We reported two additional cases. RESULTS Total 13 cases of MCC overlapping BD were retrospectively analyzed, in whom mainly in elderly women over 70 years, the skin lesions were primarily located on the faces, followed by the extremities and trunk. Most of them were asymptomatic, firm, dark red nodules arising on rapidly growing red or dark brown patches, or presenting as isolated nodules. Dermoscopy evaluation was rarely performed in the pre-operative diagnostic setting. All cases were confirmed by histopathology and immunohistochemistry. The most definitive treatment was extended local excision, but local recurrences were common. Of the 13 cases, 4 cases experienced local or distant metastasis. One suffered from an in-transit recurrence of MCC on the ipsilateral leg after local excision and lymph node dissection, whose metastasis completely subsided after avelumab treatment and without recurrence or metastasis during 6 months of follow-up. CONCLUSIONS MCC overlapping BD is a very rare skin tumor mainly predisposed on the faces, with high misdiagnosis rate and recurrence rate. Advanced disease at diagnosis is a poor prognostic factor, suggesting that earlier detection may improve outcome. The acronym, AEIOUN, has been proposed to aid in clinical identification. Our reports and the literature review can provide a better awareness and management of it.

Abstract
The terms 'Bowen disease' and 'intraepidermal squamous cell carcinoma' are sometimes considered synonymous. In this paper we present historical, clinical, histological and molecular evidence that this is incorrect. The term Bowen disease should be reserved for a subset of intraepidermal squamous cell carcinoma with a distinctive and reproducible morphological pattern, described in detail by Bowen in 1912. One other common subset of intraepidermal squamous cell carcinoma represents progression of actinic keratosis. In some cases the separation of these two common patterns of intraepidermal squamous cell carcinoma can be challenging and there are patterns of intraepidermal squamous cell carcinoma which appear to represent other distinct pathways. However, there is emerging biological evidence to support this distinction and reason to suspect that the types of invasive squamous cell carcinoma which arise from these different pathways may show important clinical and biological differences, particularly in the era of targeted and immunomodulatory therapy for advanced disease.

Abstract
Bowenoid Papulosis (BP) is an anogenital pre-malignancy. BP with immunosuppression may recur, worsen, or possibly evolve into squamous cell carcinoma or Bowen's disease (BD), and it may also become resistant to conventional treatment. Here, we describe a complex case of BP together with BD and Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma that was effectively treated with a holmium laser in conjunction with 5-Aminolevulinic Acid Photodynamic Therapy (ALA-PDT). The lesion totally vanished and the affected area remained intact with no recurrence at five years.

Abstract
Retinal G protein-coupled receptor (RGR), a photosensitive protein, functions as a retinal photoisomerase under light conditions in humans. Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is linked to chronic ultraviolet exposure, which suggests that the photoreceptor RGR may be associated with tumorigenesis and progression of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). However, the expression and function of RGR remain uncharacterized in SCC. This study analysed RGR expression in normal skin and in lesions of actinic keratosis, Bowen's disease and invasive SCC of the skin with respect to SCC initiation and development. A total of 237 samples (normal skin (n = 28), actinic keratosis (n = 42), Bowen's (n = 35) and invasive SCC (n = 132) lesions) were examined using immunohistochemistry. Invasive SCC samples had higher expression of RGR protein than the other samples. A high immunohistochemical score for RGR was associated with increased tumour size, tumour depth, Clark level, factor classification, and degree of differentiation and a more aggressive histological subtype. In addition, RGR expression was inversely correlated with involucrin expression and positively correlated with proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) and Ki67 expression. Furthermore, RGR regulates SCC cell differentiation through the PI3K-Akt signalling pathway, as determined using molecular biology approaches in vitro, suggesting that high expression of RGR is associated with aberrant proliferation and differentiation in SCC.

Abstract
Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) is the second most common type of skin cancer, after basal cell carcinoma, representing about 10-20% of all malignant skin tumors. The mortality rates of CSCC approach those of renal and oropharyngeal carcinomas, as well as melanoma, with the increasing of the risk once metastases and perineural invasion occur. Both actinic keratosis (AK) and Bowen's disease (BD) are direct precursors with the potential for progression to CSCC. In this study, we analyzed the expression of Ki67, P16 and Beta-catenin in the precursor lesions of CSCC in relation to histological prognostic parameters, respectively between them, with the aim of identifying possible correlations with a role in prognosis. Ki67 and P16 presented higher scores in advanced precancerous lesions, such as keratinocyte intraepithelial neoplasia (KIN) III and BD and low scores in seborrheic keratosis (SK). The immunoreactivity to the investigated markers confirms the multistage skin carcinogenesis, and their involvement starting from the initiation phase of the cancer process. The importance of the studied markers in the evolution and prognosis of precancerous lesions of CSCC is also supported by the linear correlations revealed between the immunoexpressions of P16, Ki67 and the membranous immunoexpression of Beta-catenin in AK.

Abstract
Early cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) can be challenging to diagnose using clinical criteria as it could present similar to actinic keratosis (AK) or Bowen's disease (BD), precursors of cSCC. Currently, histopathological assessment of an invasive biopsy is the gold standard for diagnosis. A non-invasive diagnostic approach would reduce patient and health system burden. Therefore, this study used non-invasive sampling by tape-stripping coupled with data-independent acquisition mass spectrometry (DIA-MS) proteomics to profile the proteome of histopathologically diagnosed AK, BD and cSCC, as well as matched normal samples. Proteomic data were analysed to identify proteins and biological functions that are significantly different between lesions. Additionally, a support vector machine (SVM) machine learning algorithm was used to assess the usefulness of proteomic data for the early diagnosis of cSCC. A total of 696 proteins were identified across the samples studied. A machine learning model constructed using the proteomic data classified premalignant (AK + BD) and malignant (cSCC) lesions at 77.5% accuracy. Differential abundance analysis identified 144 and 21 protein groups that were significantly changed in the cSCC, and BD samples compared to the normal skin, respectively (adj. p < 0.05). Changes in pivotal carcinogenic pathways such as LXR/RXR activation, production of reactive oxygen species, and Hippo signalling were observed that may explain the progression of cSCC from premalignant lesions. In summary, this study demonstrates that DIA-MS analysis of tape-stripped samples can identify non-invasive protein biomarkers with the potential to be developed into a complementary diagnostic tool for early cSCC.

Abstract
ZusammenfassungAktinische Keratosen (AK) sind häufige Hautveränderungen bei hellhäutigen Menschen mit dem Potenzial, in ein kutanes Plattenepithelkarzinom (PEK) überzugehen. Beide Erkrankungen können mit erheblicher Morbidität verbunden sein und stellen eine große Krankheitslast insbesondere in der älteren Bevölkerung dar. Um eine evidenzbasierte Grundlage für die klinische Entscheidungsfindung zu schaffen, wurde die S3‐Leitlinie „Aktinische Keratose und kutanes Plattenepithelkarzinom“ aktualisiert und um die Themen Plattenepithelkarzinom in situ (Morbus Bowen) und Cheilitis actinica, die Manifestation der AK am Lippenrot, erweitert. Die Leitlinie richtet sich dabei an Dermatologen, Allgemeinmediziner, HNO‐Ärzte, Chirurgen, Onkologen, Radiologen und Strahlentherapeuten in Klinik und Praxis sowie an andere medizinische Fachgebiete, politische Entscheidungsträger und Versicherungsgesellschaften, die sich mit der Diagnose und Behandlung von Patienten mit nichtmelanozytärem Hautkrebs befassen. Für Patienten und deren Angehörige existiert eine gesonderte Patientenleitlinie. In diesem Teil behandeln wir die Themen Therapie der aktinischen Keratose, Morbus Bowen, Cheilitis actinica, berufsbedingte Erkrankung an AK und PEK sowie Versorgungsstrukturen.

Abstract
SummaryActinic keratosis (AK) are common lesions in light‐skinned individuals that can potentially progress to cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC). Both conditions may be associated with significant morbidity and constitute a major disease burden, especially among the elderly. To establish an evidence‐based framework for clinical decision making, the guideline “actinic keratosis and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma” was updated and expanded by the topics cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma in situ (Bowen's disease) and actinic cheilitis. The guideline is aimed at dermatologists, general practitioners, ear nose and throat specialists, surgeons, oncologists, radiologists and radiation oncologists in hospitals and office‐based settings, as well as other medical specialties, policy makers and insurance funds involved in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with AK and cSCC. A separate guideline exists for patients and their relatives. In this part, we will address aspects relating to AK, actinic cheilitis, Bowen's disease, occupational disease and care structures.

Abstract
Bowenoid papulosis (BP) is a benign and possibly carcinogenic disease associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, which has been increasingly recognised and paid attention to in recent years, but the potential mechanisms still remain unclear. In our study, three patients who were diagnosed with BP were enrolled into our research. Skin biopsies were taken and were separated into two parts, one part was for HE staining and the others were for RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq). All the three patents were human papillomavirus (HPV) positive and HE staining revealed typical skin histopathological changes in BP, including dyskeratosis, hyperplasia and hypertrophy of the granular and spinous layers, atypical keratinocytes. RNA-seq analysis demonstrated that a total of 486 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were detected between the skin tissues from BP and the controls, among which, 320 genes were significantly upregulated and 166 genes were dramatically downregulated. GO enrichment revealed that antigen binding, cell cycle, immune response and keratinisation to be the most notably altered pathways, whereas KEGG analysis indicated that cell cycle cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction, ECM receptor interaction and p53 signalling pathway to be the most significantly changed signalling pathways in BP. Furthermore, metabolism-associated enrichment analysis showed that cholesterol metabolism, metabolism of xenobiotics by cytochrome p450 and pyrimidine metabolism to be the most dramatically dysregulated metabolic pathways in BP as compared to normal controls. Our study revealed that inflammation, metabolism and cell proliferation signalling pathways might be the most important pathways for BP disease, targeted inhibiting of these signals might be a potential method for BP treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Bowen's disease (BD), also known as squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in situ, should be treated actively. One of the therapy options, photodynamic (PDT) therapy, although an effective measure for the treatment, has a poor patient prognosis if not combined with other treatment options. Therefore, we propose the combination of electrodesiccation (ED) therapy and PTD in the treatment of large BD patches. METHOD A retrospective study, comprising 11 cases of BD with large tumor areas, was conducted to analyze various aspects, such as curative effects, cosmetic effects, patient satisfaction, improvement in the quality of life, and adverse reactions, by combining ED with PTD. RESULT The recurrence rate of BD patients treated with a combination of ED and PTD was 0% after one year with a satisfactory cosmetic degree (scar score was 1.91) and a high patient satisfaction (7.91). After treatment, the patients' quality of life was significantly improved (DLQI average was 20.08 and 4) and the difference was statistically significantly different. Also, the average healing time was 13.33 days. Adverse reactions were mainly pain and the incidence of infection was extremely low. CONCLUSION ET combined with PDT is effective in the treatment of BD with large patches and has the advantages of fast healing, less scar formation, and a good cosmetic effect.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Circumscribed palmar or plantar hypokeratosis is a focal disorder of keratinization that consists of a reduction in the thickness of the corneal layer of the epidermis of palms or soles. Although it is considered a benign entity, the thinning of the stratum corneum facilitates ultraviolet damage in the affected skin, which may result in an increased risk of developing focal epidermal dysplasia. Other factors, such as immunosuppression in transplanted patients, may play a role as well. We present a case of circumscribed palmar or plantar hypokeratosis with features of Bowen disease limited to the hypokeratotic epidermis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Split nail (SN) is a rare type of nail fragility syndrome, characterized by a longitudinal fissure involving the entire thickness of the nail plate. Longitudinal nail splitting may be caused by direct injury to the nail plate or matrix insult. Few articles have been published on the topic, most were related to the traumatic aetiology. Some case reports mention tumours and inflammatory disorders as other causes. OBJECTIVES AND METHODS The aim of this retrospective study was to analyse the clinical and histopathological features of 56 SN collected at the nail consultation of the dermatology department at Saint Pierre University Hospital in Brussels, between 1997 and 2019. RESULTS Fifty-six patients were included (34 women and 22 men) with median age of 44.2 years. The fingernails were 3.2 times more frequently affected than toenails, especially the thumb. The most frequent aetiologies were tumours (45.6%), inflammatory diseases (26.3%) and traumas (19.3%). Congenital (5.3%) and systemic disorders (3.5%) were rarer causes. Histopathological slide review confirmed that alteration of the nail matrix integrity causes split nail, resulting either from matrix stretching by an underlying tumour or from impairment of the keratinization process by inflammatory diseases, melanocytic tumours and Bowen's disease. CONCLUSIONS This study is the largest case series of longitudinal nail splitting to date. It is the first to gather nail disorders causing SN with their clinical pathological correlation. The most common causes are traumatisms, tumours and inflammatory disorders. Congenital and systemic disorders are rarer. Tumours are responsible for half of the cases from which one third are malignant, mainly melanoma. When facing a monodactylic SN, benign as well as malignant tumours should be ruled out before concluding to traumatic aetiology.

Abstract
The role of telomere biology and telomerase activation in skin cancers has been investigated in melanoma and basal cell carcinoma but limited evidence is available for cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC). We will review the current knowledge on the role of telomere and telomerase pathway in cSCC pathogenesis. At the somatic level, both long and short telomere lengths have been described in cSCC. This telomere dichotomy is probably related to two different mechanisms of tumour initiation which determines two tumour subtypes. Telomere shortening is observed during the invasive progression from in situ forms of cSCC, such as Bowen's disease (BD) and actinic keratosis (AK), to invasive cSCC. At the germline level, controversial results have been reported on the association between constitutive telomere length and risk of cSCC. Approximately 75⁻85% of cSCC tumours are characterized by a high level of telomerase activity. Telomerase activation has been also reported in AKs and BD and in sun-damaged skin, thus supporting the hypothesis that UV modulates telomerase activity in the skin. Activating TERT promoter mutations have been identified in 32⁻70% of cSCCs, with the majority showing the UV-signature. No significant correlation was observed between TERT promoter mutations and cSCC clinico-pathological features. However, TERT promoter mutations have been recently suggested to be independent predictors of an adverse outcome. The attention on telomere biology and telomerase activity in cSCC is increasing for the potential implications in the development of effective tools for prognostic assessment and of therapeutic strategies in patients with cutaneous cSCC.

Abstract
A 53-year-old white woman presented to our clinic with skin lesions in the anogenital region that had persisted for 1 year. She had a past medical history of total vulvectomy for a vulvar localization of Bowen's disease. She was otherwise in good health, with no evidence of illness or immunosuppression. Physical examination revealed multiple erythematous papular lesions located in the anogenital region (Figure 1). Dermatoscopy of the anogenital papules revealed glomerular vessels on an erythematous background typical of Bowen's disease (Figure 2A). There were no palpable inguinal lymph nodes. Rectosigmoidoscopy was normal. The biopsy specimen showed full thickness keratinocyte atypia with loss of normal stratification and was conclusive for Bowen's disease (Figure 2B).

Abstract
Bowen's disease is a type of squamous cell carcinoma in situ of the skin. The pigmented form is rare and represents less than 2% of cases. We report a case of a 74-year-old black man with a blackened and asymptomatic leg injury for about 6 months. Clinically, and under dermatoscopy, the injury was suggestive of melanoma or melanoacanthoma, and a definitive diagnosis was made by histopathological examination.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Penile intra-epithelial neoplasia (PIN) are precancerous lesions, characterized by architectural and cytological abnormalities of the genital epithelium, from which can arise squamous carcinomas. METHODS A literature review was performed on the Medline database, considering the articles listed between October 2007 and October 2017 dealing with PIN, using the following keywords "intraepithelial neoplasia" or "Bowen's disease" or "erythroplasia of Queyrat" or "bowenoid papulosis" and "penis ». Papers were selected according to their language (English and French) and their relevance. RESULTS One hundred seventy four articles related to PIN were listed. Twenty-five of them were selected for their relevance. The analysis of the references of these articles identified 6 relevant papers published before October 2007, which were considered for this review based on a total of thirty-one articles. We describe clinical and pathological characteristics of PIN, emphasizing treatment modalities. CONCLUSION Urologists should distinguish HPV-related and non HPV-related PIN, both of them sharing clinical presentation, but needing different management.

Abstract
Bowen's disease, named after John Templeton Bowen, also known as squamous cell carcinoma in situ is a type of non-melanocytic intraepidermal malignancy. It is estimated that in general population around 3% to 5% of Bowen's disease transform into invasive squamous cell cancer. Dermoscopy aims in the identification of the Bowen's disease. The most typical dermoscopic features of Bowen's disease include glomerular vessels and scaly surface. Although dermoscopy of Bowen's disease has been well established other skin lesions may present similar or identical structures in dermoscpic images leading to differential diagnosis dilemmas. Histopathological confirmation should be obtained prior the treatment of suspected cases of Bowen's disease in order to avoid a misdiagnosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with arsenic-induced Bowen's disease (As-BD) are at risk of developing invasive cancers in the skin, lung, and urinary bladder. However, a longitudinal follow-up study on the association between As-BD and invasive cancers is still lacking. OBJECTIVES This study aims to investigate the underlying molecular mechanisms of this malignant progression in the skin and internal organs. METHODS This is a biopsy-based follow-up study. We tested the DNA histograms, Cyclin D1 (CCND1) protein expression and CCND1 promoter DNA methylation in 40 pathologically confirmed specimens from As-BD patients to correlate with individual's invasive cancer occurrence in the 5-year follow-up. RESULTS Flow cytometric DNA histogram analysis of skin specimens showed aneuploid (n=15), G2/M arrest (n=22), and normal (n=3) DNA histograms. No patients with normal DNA histograms developed invasive cancers, whereas 13 developed invasive cancers in the aneuploid group and 2 developed invasive cancers in the G2/M arrest group. The aneuploid group showed a high risk of invasive cancer development. In all assessed aneuploid specimens, the CCND1 promoter hypomethylation was observed. Statistically, percentage of un-methylation more than 55.85% among 17 detected CpG sites showed extremely high predictive power in the occurrence of invasive arsenical cancers. Furthermore, the un-methylation at -56 and -54bp CpG sites was statistically significantly associated with invasive arsenical cancer development (p=1.29×10-5). CONCLUSIONS As-BD lesions showing an aneuploid DNA histogram had a high risk of invasive cancer development. Un-methyaltion at -56 and -54bp CpG in the CCND1 promoter serves as a predictor for invasive progression in As-BD patients.

Abstract
Abdominal pain is one of the major symptoms in bowel obstruction (BO); its cellular mechanisms remain incompletely understood. We tested the hypothesis that mechanical stress in obstruction upregulates expression of nociception mediator nerve growth factor (NGF) in gut smooth muscle cells (SMCs), and NGF sensitizes primary sensory nerve to contribute to pain in BO. Partial colon obstruction was induced with a silicon band implanted in the distal bowel of Sprague-Dawley rats. Colon-projecting sensory neurons in the dorsal root ganglia (T13 to L2) were identified for patch-clamp and gene expression studies. Referred visceral sensitivity was assessed by measuring withdrawal response to stimulation by von Frey filaments in the lower abdomen. Membrane excitability of colon-projecting dorsal root ganglia neurons was significantly enhanced, and the withdrawal response to von Frey filament stimulation markedly increased in BO rats. The expression of NGF mRNA and protein was increased in a time-dependent manner (day 1-day 7) in colonic SMC but not in mucosa/submucosa of the obstructed colon. Mechanical stretch in vitro caused robust NGF mRNA and protein expression in colonic SMC. Treatment with anti-NGF antibody attenuated colon neuron hyperexcitability and referred hypersensitivity in BO rats. Obstruction led to significant increases of tetrodotoxin-resistant Na currents and mRNA expression of Nav1.8 but not Nav1.6 and Nav1.7 in colon neurons; these changes were abolished by anti-NGF treatment. In conclusion, mechanical stress-induced upregulation of NGF in colon SMC underlies the visceral hypersensitivity in BO through increased gene expression and activity of tetrodotoxin-resistant Na channels in sensory neurons.

Abstract
Collagen XVII and integrin α6β4 have well-established roles as epithelial adhesion molecules. Their binding partner laminin 332 as well as integrin α6β4 are largely recognized to promote invasion and metastasis in various cancers, and collagen XVII is essential for the survival of colon and lung cancer stem cells. We have studied the expression of laminin γ2, collagen XVII and integrin β4 in tissue microarray samples of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and its precursors, actinic keratosis and Bowen's disease. The expression of laminin γ2 was highest in SCC samples, whereas the expression of collagen XVII and integrin β4 varied greatly in SCC and its precursors. Collagen XVII and integrin β4 were also expressed in SCC cell lines. Virus-mediated RNAi knockdown of collagen XVII and integrin β4 reduced the migration of less aggressive SCC-25 cells in horizontal scratch wound healing assay. Additionally, in a 3D organotypic myoma invasion assay the loss of collagen XVII or integrin β4 suppressed equally the migration and invasion of SCC-25 cells whereas there was no effect on the most aggressive HSC-3 cells. Variable expression patterns and results in migration and invasion assays suggest that collagen XVII and integrin β4 contribute to SCC tumorigenesis.

Abstract
A 45-year-old farmer presented with ulcers and plaques over his scrotum for the past 4 to 5 years. The condition started as a small lesion on the shaft of the penis, which improved with treatment; however, after 2 to 3 months, papulonodular lesions developed on the scrotum, which increased in size and subsequently broke down to form ulcers. He denied drug abuse but had a history of multiple unprotected sexual exposures. He was prescribed oral antibiotics, which improved the lesions, but he failed to take the antibiotics for more than a week. He also used powders, lotions, and salves (exact nature not known), which did not help and sometimes even burned the skin. After stopping the medicine, he developed new lesions that followed a similar course. Examination revealed nontender ulcers on the scrotum with raised, rolled-out margins and pale red, granulation tissue that bled on touch (Figure 1). In addition, there were nodules with a pinkish red granular surface and scaly erythematous plaques on the scrotum. Regional lymph nodes were not enlarged.

Abstract
Pigmented Bowen's disease is a rare subtype of Bowen's disease. Clinically it presents as a slow-growing, well-defined, hyperpigmented plaque, and should be included as a differential diagnosis of other pigmented lesions. The authors describe a challenging case of pigmented Bowen's disease with non-diagnostic dermscopy findings.

Abstract
Keratinocyte skin cancer (KSC) refers to a broad class of tumors with a regrettably rising incidence worldwide. The term KSC stands for different stages of skin cancer including actinic keratosis (AK), Bowen's Disease (BD) and invasive squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). These tumors tend to grow slow, are unlikely to result in distant metastatic disease and death but they frequently destroy underlying tissues and should therefore be removed at the earliest possible stage. The fact that the cure rate is very high when KSC is detected in early stages emphasizes once more the applicability of dermoscopy as an integrative part of the clinical examination of skin tumors. In the first part of this review article, we summarize key points of the dermoscopic diagnosis of KSC including different stages of AK, BD and SCC. In the second part we want to focus on the progression model of KSC and the role of dermoscopy in the management of keratinocyte skin cancer.

Abstract
Bowen disease - a squamous cell carcinoma in situ - is associated with oncogenic human papilloma viruses (HPV). The association is best established for genital Bowen disease but also holds for extragenital lesions. The immunomodulatory substance imiquimod is used for the treatment of HPV-induced skin disorders. In the case of paraungual Bowen disease, established treatment options as excision, cryosurgery, radiotherapy or laser treatment might cause persistent nail damage. We successfully treated HPV73-positive Bowen disease in this location with topical imiquimod.

Abstract
Bowen's disease, also known as an intraepithelial squamous cell neoplasia, is a carcinoma in situ firstly reported in 1912 by a dermatologist named Bowen from the United States [1]. About 3%~5% of Bowen's disease might develop into invasive squamous cell carcinomas of mocusa and skin [2]. Surgical resection is preferred because of its low recurrence. Here we reported a rare Bowen's disease case presented with multiple perianal lesions that were given surgical resection, but relapsed after 2 years.

Abstract
Pigmented Bowen's disease is a rare subtype of in situ squamous cell carcinoma of the skin and mucosa, with a potential risk of invasion and metastasis. It is universally accepted that human papillomavirus (HPV) is the cause of genital Bowen's disease. Herein we report an unusual case of pigmented Bowen's disease of the genital area that clinically simulated malignant melanoma. Accurate diagnosis could only be established after histological examination. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis showed that the lesion harbored HPV 16 DNA. Although pigmented Bowen's disease is rare, it should be considered in the differential diagnosis of all pigmented lesions of the genitalia. This case report highlights the necessity of biopsy and histopathological examination for every suspicious cutaneous lesion.

Abstract
Pigmented Bowen's disease is rare, though more prevalent in men. It presents as a well-delineated plaque in areas unexposed to sun. There are reports of association with seborrheic keratosis, solar lentigo or exuberant pigmentation of genital and intertriginous regions. A specific dermoscopy finding is the presence of brown or gray dots in regular arrangement and coiled or dotted vessels. Thus, we aim to raise awareness of the diagnosis of pigmented Bowen's disease in pigmented lesions.

Abstract
We present a case of Bowen's disease showing a clinical tendency toward spontaneous regression. The patient, a healthy 86-year-old woman, complained that erythema had appeared on her left forearm two years earlier and had gradually enlarged. At the first examination, we observed a well-demarcated, 4 x 3 cm, erythematous plaque, partically covered with crusting and erosions near the wrist. Diagnosis of Bowen's disease was confirmed by a biopsy. Since the patient refused surgery and also discontinued hyperthermic treatment with disposable chemical pocket warmers after a brief trial, we decided to continue the observation of disease progression without any treatment. Two years after the initial visit, the lesion showed a clinical tendency toward spontaneous regression, with a fine erythematous plaque that showed the obscurely demarcated border of the lesion. After three years, although the patient exhibited a similar symptomatic improvement, a skin biopsy showed a few residual tumor cells. At the patient's request, we chose to observe the progress of the lesion. We review the literature of cases of Bowen's disease that have shown a similar tendency toward spontaneous regression, which have been rare.
