Abstract
BACKGROUND The comprehensive impact of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection on reproductive tract inflammation and adverse pregnancy outcomes among women of reproductive age has not been fully investigated. METHODS A retrospective cohort study was conducted among women presenting to the gynecological departments of specialized women's hospitals in Ningbo, China, between 2016 and 2020. A total of 6506 women, with an average age of 28.7 years, who had undergone HPV testing and genotyping were included in the study. RESULTS Overall, the most prevalent HPV types were HPV 52 (25.8%), HPV 16 (17.9%), and HPV 58 (7.7%). Vaginitis and cervicitis were significantly more prevalent in women with high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) compared to those with low-risk HPV(LR-HPV) (9.0% vs. 4.7%; 10.8% vs.7.1%; P < 0.05). Moreover, the incidence of cervicitis in patients with persistent HPV infection for more than two years was significantly higher than in those with HPV infection for one year (21.8% vs. 11.8%; P < 0.05). Pregnant women with HR-HPV infection had a significantly increased risk of miscarriage (9.7% vs. 6.1%; P < 0.05). Our cross-sectional analysis of potential risk factors for HPV infection during pregnancy revealed that higher pregnancy glucose levels (prevalence, 4.23%; OR, 1.10; 95% CI, 1.10-1.20; P < 0.05) significantly increased the risk of HPV infection. Women with persistent HR-HPV infection had a significantly higher risk of reproductive tract inflammation and adverse pregnancy outcomes. The analysis revealed significant associations between HPV infection and several pregnancy outcomes, including an increased risk of miscarriage, reduced live birth rate, and a higher cesarean section rate. CONCLUSIONS This highlights the need to monitor gestational glucose levels, reproductive tract inflammation, and HPV infection to reduce the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes among pregnant women.

Abstract
Introduction This research aimed to explore the determinants of cervical HPV infection and evaluate how cervical cancer screening outcomes influence sexual functioning and anxiety among women across three provinces in China. Methods Study participants were categorized into HPV-positive or HPV-negative groups, after which they completed the General Characteristics Questionnaire and the SAS Anxiety Scale. The HPV-positive cohort was further divided into four subgroups: Subgroup 1 consisted of individuals with HPV types 16 or 18 but no cytological abnormalities. Subgroup 2 included those with cytological abnormalities and infections with HPV types 16 or 18. Subgroup 3 included participants infected with high-risk HPV types other than 16 and 18, who did not show cytological abnormalities, while Subgroup 4 encompassed individuals with both cytological abnormalities and infections with high-risk HPV types other than 16 and 18. All participants were assessed using the Female Sexual Function Index Scale (FSFI), which measures sexual function across these subgroups. Results A total of 531 questionnaires were analyzed. Logistic regression identified several risk factors for HPV infection, including manual labor, service occupations, other occupations, low- and middle-income groups, and cervical columnar epithelial ectasia, as well as an increase in the number of previous sexual partners. Conversely, protective factors included condom use during sexual activity and mutual genital hygiene prior to intercourse. The incidence of lower genital tract infections was significantly higher in the HPV-positive group compared to the HPV-negative group, with rates of chlamydia (13.3% versus 4.6%, P<0.001), gonococcal infections (5.2% versus 0.4%, P<0.001), and mycobacterial diseases (38.9% versus 23.4%, P<0.001). Additionally, anxiety levels were significantly higher in the HPVpositive group compared to the HPV-negative group (p<0.005). Anxiety levels and cytological outcomes were significantly correlated across the four HPV-positive subgroups (p<0.05), with type 16/18 infections being associated with notably lower FSFI scores compared to other high-risk HPV types (p<0.05). Conclusions The findings suggest that infections with HPV type 16/18, especially when accompanied by abnormal cytological findings,significantly elevate anxiety and distress in women and are associated with reduced FSFI scores. These results highlight the complex impact of HPV infection on women's sexual health and psychological well-being with HPV type 16/.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Quality assessment of the prevalence and distribution of human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes could support additional targeted HPV vaccinations. However, the characteristics of HPV infection in Wuhan city are limited in the past decade. We aimed to assess the epidemiology of HPV infection among women and provide a reference for the prevention and treatment of cervical cancer in this region. METHODS A retrospective study employing 105,679 women attending Wuhan Medical and Health Center for Women and Children for cervical cancer screening from January 2015 to December 2022 was conducted. The HPV genotype was detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and diversion hybridization. The overall incidence and age-specific type distribution of HPV infection and the relationship between HPV infection and cervical cytology were analyzed. RESULTS The overall HPV infection rate was 16.87% in Wuhan city, and the prevalence rates of high-risk, low-risk and mixed high- and low-risk HPV infections were 13.64%, 1.77% and 1.46%, respectively. The five most prevalent genotypes were HPV52 (4.24%), HPV58 (2.42%), HPV16 (2.34%), HPV53 (1.87%), and HPV39 (1.66%). The prevalence of HPV in women exhibited a "two-peak" pattern, the peaks of which were observed in the < 21 years group (37.4%) and the 61-65 years group (41.72%). Logistic regression analysis revealed no significant difference in the rate of high-grade lesion positivity between single and multiple high-risk HPV infections. Among patients with a high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion+ (HSIL+) ThinPrep cytologic test (TCT) diagnosis, HPV58 was the most common type, followed by HPV52, HPV16, HPV39 and HPV53. CONCLUSIONS HPV types 52, 58, 16, 53, and 39 were the most common types in the general female population in Wuhan, and the prevalence of HPV infection varied among different age groups. This study provides a comprehensive overview of the epidemiological characteristics of HPV infection in women, which could support the development of targeted prevention and control strategies for cervical cancer in the region.

Abstract
Purpose This study aims to address the existing data gap regarding the status of high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection and the distribution of HR-HPV subtypes among women in rural areas of Nyingchi City, Tibet. The research objectives include providing insights for HPV vaccine development. Methods The research collected data from two rounds of cancer screening conducted among rural women in Nyingchi City, Tibet, from 2019 to 2022. HR-HPV subtype gene detection was performed using the PCR fluorescence method on the collected samples. And then analyzed the HR-HPV infection rate among rural women in Nyingchi City, Tibet, as well as the infection rate of different HR-HPV subtypes and their distribution across different age groups. A comparison was made between the infection rates of women in rural areas outside the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and those in Nyingchi City. Results A total of 15,687 cases included. The overall HR-HPV infection rate among women in rural areas of Nyingchi City, Tibet, was 13.00% (2040/15,687), which was significantly higher than the rate among women in rural areas outside the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (7.82% (9,249/118,237); χ2 = 635.7, p < 0.001). The highest HPV infection rate was observed in the 35-39 age group, with a rate of 15.31% (499/3260), which was significantly higher than the rate of 7.22% (1827/25,322) among women in the same age group in rural areas outside the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (χ2 = 253.00, p < 0.001). The lowest HPV infection rate was found in the 50-54 age group, with a rate of 9.69% (246/2540), which was statistically different from the rate of 8.14% (1,604/19,698) among women in the same age group outside the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (χ2 = 17.68, p < 0.001). The top three HR-HPV subtypes among women in rural areas of Nyingchi City, Tibet, were HPV52 (20.15%, 411/2040), HPV16 (12.45%, 254/2040), and HPV58 (11.96%, 244/2040). These findings align with the top three HR-HPV subtypes among women in rural areas outside the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Furthermore, the top three HR-HPV subtypes among women aged 35-39, 40-44, and 45-49 in rural areas of Nyingchi City, Tibet, were HPV52, HPV16, and HPV58. In conclusion, the HR-HPV infection rate among women in rural areas of Nyingchi City, Tibet, is significantly higher compared to women in rural areas outside the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, with consistent patterns observed in the distribution of the top three HR-HPV subtypes between the two regions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV) induce long-lasting infections that cause cervical cancer. This study evaluated the prevalence of HPV infections and the distribution of their genotypes among clinic patients and healthy women in Beijing, China. METHODS Cervical specimens were collected from 12,100 patients and 1176 subjects who underwent physical examinations at Dongzhimen Hospital, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, between March 2016 and September 2020. HPV genotyping was performed using commercial kits designed to detect 15 high-risk and 2 low-risk HPV genotypes. RESULTS There was a higher overall prevalence of HPV among the clinic patients (21.0%) than among the healthy women (11.9%). The most common HPV genotypes among the patients were: HPV-52 (5.4%), HPV-16 (3.4%), HPV-58 (3.2%), HPV-51 (2.6%), HPV-39 (2.0%), HPV-56 (2.0%), and HPV-66 (2.0%). Among the healthy women: HPV-52 (3.0%), HPV-51 (1.8%), HPV-58 (1.6%), HPV-66 (1.5%), HPV-16 (1.2%), HPV-56 (1.2%), and HPV-18 (1.1%). Multiple HPVs were detected in 29.1% of the gynecological outpatients and in 23.6% of the women receiving physical examinations. The most common pairs of HPV types detected were HPV-52 and HPV-16 in the clinic patients, and HPV-52 and HPV-56 in the healthy women. Age-specific HPV positivity and peak prevalence were observed among the individuals in both groups for women aged less than 25 years and those between 61 and 65 years of age. CONCLUSIONS Our results provide current estimates of HPV prevalence and genotypes in the Beijing region. The epidemiological characteristics observed also provide a reference for the development of cervical cancer screening strategies and selection of HPV vaccine antigen targets for this region. A comparison of these HPV prevalence data with those from other regions suggests that regional vaccines may be an important direction for future research.

Abstract
Cervical cancer is the commonest cancer affecting women worldwide. During the last decades, the incidence and mortality rates of cervical cancer have increased in China. This research aims to assess the overall and genotype-specific prevalence of the human papillomavirus (HPV) infection among Chinese women with normal cervix, considering age, and geographic location. We selected studies about HPV prevalence in women from Chinese in Mainland China with normal cervix and abnormal cervical lesions, published between January 1995 and December 2020. The HPV prevalence was analyzed using meta-analysis based on the following: cytological and histological diagnoses, regions, and ages. The overall HPV prevalence in 856,535 women was 14.3%, 95% confidence interval (CI) and it increased from 8.2% to 16.5% in studies published from 2006 to 2020. The prevalence of high-risk (HR) and low-risk (LR) HPV types was 11.3% and 2.7%, respectively. The commonest types of HPV in women from Mainland China were HPV 16 (2.6%), 52 (2.4%), 58 (1.7%), 18 (0.9%), and 33 (0.8%). According to the geographical analysis, the prevalence of different HPV genotypes varied by region, Central China had the highest overall HPV prevalence. HPV16 was the commonest type in all the regions except in South China and East China, where HPV52 was found to be common. Regarding diagnosis, the HPV infection led to cervical cancer diagnosis by cytology and histology with 90.1% and 91.5% rates, respectively. HPV16 and HPV18 were common types associated with cervical cancer diagnosed by cytology and histology. HPV 16, 58, 52, 18, and 33 were the commonest types found in women with normal cervixes from Mainland China. The prevalence of different HPV genotypes varied by age group and region.

Background The evaluation of human papillomavirus (HPV) prevalence rate dynamics and genotype distribution could support the adoption of more targeted prevention and treatment of cervical cancer. We aimed to assess the infection status and genotype characteristics of HPV among gynecological outpatients in Shanghai, China. Methods Clinical specimens were collected from patients attending gynaecological department of the Putuo Hospital, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, between January 2015 and December 2019. The cervicovaginal infection of 17 high-risk genotypes and 10 low-risk genotypes were analyzed by Luminex-based multiple assays. Results The overall HPV infection rate was 18.81% (95% CI 18.31–19.30%) in Shanghai city, with high-risk, low-risk and mixed high- and low-risk HPV prevalence being 11.65% (95% CI 11.24–12.06%), 4.19% (95% CI 3.94–4.44%) and 2.96% (95% CI 2.74–3.17%), respectively. The five most prevalent high-risk genotypes were HPV-52 (2.95%), HPV-16 (2.34%), HPV-58 (2.07%), HPV-53 (1.67%) and HPV-39 (1.36%). The most common low-risk genotype was HPV-61 (1.52%), followed by HPV-6 (1.29%) and HPV-81 (1.19%). Moreover, the coverage of HPV genotype by nonavalent vaccine was 10.42%, and non-vaccine-covered high-risk genotype was 7.70%. The 15–24 years age group demonstrated the highest HPV prevalence (43.14%), and significant differences were observed among different age groups (P < 0.001). Conclusions This study revealed the HPV prevalence and genotype distribution among women in Shanghai city, which could serve as guidance for HPV vaccination and preventative strategies against cervical cancer in this area. Abstract
BACKGROUND Data regarding human papillomavirus (HPV) prevalence and genotype distribution are limited in Shannan City, Tibet Tibetan Autonomous Region, China. The purpose of this study is to provide reliable data for guiding women in Shannan City in cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccine innoculation. METHODS HPV testing was performed on women aged 16-109 years (mean age 44.03 ± 9.25 years) from Shannan City in 2019 and 2020, which was implemented technically by gynecological examination, vaginal discharge smear microscopy, cytology, and HPV detection. The overall prevalence, age-specific prevalence, and genotype distribution were analyzed. RESULTS A total of 48,126 women received HPV testing, of which 3929 were detected human papillomavirus. The HPV-positive rate was 8.16% (3929/48,126), and the highest prevalence was in the ≤ 25-year-old age group (12.68%). After the age of 25, the prevalence rate decreased rapidly, and then slowly increased from 7.49% in the 46-55 age group to 9.82% in the ≥ 66 age group, showing a "U-shaped" pattern. The positive prevalence of HPV 16 or 18-only was 1.43%, that of other HPV genotypes except HPV 16 or 18 was 6.39%, and mixed HPV infections including HPV 16 or 18 was 0.34%. CONCLUSIONS The HPV infection rate in Shannan city is rather low, and the age-specific prevalence of HPV infection presents a "U" curve, suggesting the importance of screening among younger women and the necessity of detection among older women.

Abstract
Human papillomavirus (HPV) induced cervical cancer is becoming a major cause of mortality in women. The present research aimed to identify the natural inhibitors of HPV-18 E1 protein (1R9W) from Himalayan herbs with lesser toxicity and higher potency. In this study, one hundred nineteen phytoconstituents of twenty important traditional medicinal plants of Northwest Himalayas were selected for molecular docking with the target protein 1R9W of HPV-18 E1 Molecular docking was performed by AutoDock vina software. ADME/T screening of the bioactive phytoconstituents was done by SwissADME, admetSAR, and Protox II. A couple of best protein-ligand complexes were selected for 100 ns MD simulation. Molecular docking results revealed that among all the selected phytoconstituents only thirty-five phytoconstituents showed the binding affinity similar or more than the standard anti-cancer drugs viz. imiquimod (-6.1 kJ/mol) and podofilox (-6.9 kJ/mol). Among all the selected thirty-five phytoconstituents, eriodictyol-7-glucuronide, stigmasterol, clicoemodin and thalirugidine showed the best interactions with a docking score of -9.1, -8.7, -8.4, and -8.4 kJ/mol. Based on the ADME screening, only two phytoconstituents namely stigmasterol and clicoemodin selected as the best inhibitor of HPV protein. MD simulation study also revealed that stigmasterol and clicoemodin were stable inside the binding pocket of 1R9W, Stigmasterol and clicoemodin can be used as a potential investigational drug to cure HPV infections.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is involved in cervical cancer development, and hence understanding its prevalence and genotype distribution is important. However, there are few reports on the prevalence and genotype distribution of HPV in the city of Huzhou in China. METHODS In this retrospective cross-sectional study, 11,506 women who visited Huzhou Maternity & Child Health Care Hospital between January 2018 and October 2019 were enrolled. The results of HPV genotyping and cytology tests were analyzed. RESULTS The overall prevalence of HPV infection was 15.5%. The rate of high-risk (HR) HPV infection (13.5%) was higher than that of single low-risk (LR) HPV infection (2.0%) (p<0.05). The five most common HPV genotypes were HPV52 (3.3%), 16 (1.9%), 58 (1.7%), 53 (1.5%), and 81 (1.2%). The infection rate of HPV peaked in women aged 16-24 and women aged ≥55. The infection rate of HPV58 or HPV81 appeared as a single peak in women aged ≥55. The rates of HR-HPV and LR-HPV infection were higher in subjects with abnormal cytology (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS HPV infection is high in Huzhou, and HPV53 and HPV81 are the prevalent genotypes. HPV infection rate is associated with age and cytology. Regional HPV surveillance is essential to optimize current HPV prevention and vaccine development.

Abstract
Simple Summary Among the over 200 human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes identified, approximately 15 of them can cause human cancers. In this review, we provided an updated overview of the distribution of cancer-causing HPV genotypes by countries in East, Southeast and South Asia. Besides the standard screening and treatment methods employed in these regions, we unravel HPV detection methods and therapeutics utilised in certain countries that differ from other part of the world. The discrepancies may be partly due to health infrastructure, socio-economy and cultural diversities. Additionally, we highlighted the area lack of study, particularly on the oncogenicity of HPV genotype variants of high prevalence in these regions. Abstract Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection remains one of the most prominent cancer-causing DNA viruses, contributing to approximately 5% of human cancers. While association between HPV and cervical cancers has been well-established, evidence on the attribution of head and neck cancers (HNC) to HPV have been increasing in recent years. Among the cancer-causing HPV genotypes, HPV16 and 18 remain the major contributors to cancers across the globe. Nonetheless, the distribution of HPV genotypes in ethnically, geographically, and socio-economically diverse East, Southeast, and South Asia may differ from other parts of the world. In this review, we garner and provide updated insight into various aspects of HPV reported in recent years (2015–2021) in these regions. We included: (i) the HPV genotypes detected in normal cancers of the uterine cervix and head and neck, as well as the distribution of the HPV genotypes by geography and age groups; (ii) the laboratory diagnostic methods and treatment regimens used within these regions; and (iii) the oncogenic properties of HPV prototypes and their variants contributing to carcinogenesis. More importantly, we also unveil the similarities and discrepancies between these aspects, the areas lacking study, and the challenges faced in HPV studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Persistent infection by high risk human papillomavirus (HPV) is the leading cause of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and cervical carcinoma. Local hyperthermia at 44ºC has been proven efficacious to clear cutaneous or anogenital warts caused by HPV infection. This study aims to assess the effect of hyperthermia at 44ºC on the clearance of high-risk HPV. METHODS A randomized, patient blind, sham treatment-controlled trial was conducted in four medical centers. We enrolled patients with positive high-risk HPVs and normal or insignificant cytological findings (Negative/ASCUS/LSIL). Participants were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive either hyperthermia at 44 ºC or 37 ºC, for 30mins in each session. Patients in both groups received treatment once a day for three consecutive days, plus two more sessions 10 ± 3 days later. The primary outcome was clearance rate of HPV three months after the treatment. RESULTS After a 3-month follow-up, hyperthermia treatment at 44 ºC and 37 ºC achieved HPV clearance rates of 85.19% (23/27) and 50% (13/26), respectively (p=0.014). There was no significant difference of treatment response between patients with single and multiple type of HPV by 44 ºC hyperthermia treatment. There were no significant adverse events recorded during the treatment period in both groups. CONCLUSIONS Local hyperthermia at 44 ºC safely and significantly aids in clearing cervical high-risk HPVs, the effect of which helps halting the progression of cervical transformation and transmission of the virus.

Abstract
There is currently a lack of sufficient data on human papillomavirus (HPV)-attributable cervical carcinoma in China. Accordingly, we aimed to determine the prevalence and genotype distribution of HPV among women with cervical lesions in Shenzhen, in order to evaluate the potential benefit of HPV vaccination programs and inform cervical cancer control policies. We enrolled 5,255 patients who were admitted to the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences Shenzhen Hospital from January 2017 to December 2019. The HPV prevalence and genotype distribution were analyzed using the 21 HPV GenoArray diagnostic assay. A total of 937/5,255 patients showed HPV-positivity (prevalence rate 17.83%), of whom 85.81% (804/937) had high-risk HPV infection. HPV52 was the most prevalent genotype (4.72%, 248/5,255), followed by HPV58 (3.04%, 160/5,255), and HPV16 (2.72%, 143/5,255). The HPV prevalence rates among women with a normal cervix, low-grade intraepithelial lesions, high-grade intraepithelial lesions, invasive cervical cancer, and other characteristics were 15.63% (50/320), 58.65% (61/104), 80.00% (44/55), 88.57% (31/35), and 15.84% (751/4,741), respectively. HPV16, HPV18, and HPV52 accounted for the majority of cervical lesions, and the infection rates of HPV16 and HPV18 gradually increased with intraepithelial lesion progression (both P < .001). Our study found that HPV16, HPV52, and HPV18 played important roles in the occurrence and development of cervical lesions. This finding has the potential to guide the formulation of HPV screening and vaccination programs and preventive strategies for HPV-attributable cancer in this region.

Abstract
Background Human papillomavirus (HPV) testing is more sensitive than cytology for detecting cervical cancer and its precursors. This study aimed to analyze the prevalence of high-risk HPV genotypes and evaluate the role of HPV genotyping triage for detecting high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions, adenocarcinoma in situ and cervical cancer (HSIL+) in HPV-positive women with normal cytology. Methods A retrospective study was performed in women who had undergone co-screening at the China Medical University-affiliated Shengjing Hospital between 2012 and 2014. Results Of the 34,587 women, 2665 HPV-positive women with normal cytology who had received colposcopy were eligible for analysis. In HSIL+ groups of 204 women, the common genotypes were HPV16, HPV52, HPV58, HPV33, HPV31 and HPV18 in order of prevalence. The proportion of histological HSIL+ in women infected with HPV33 or HPV31 was not significantly different compared to women infected with HPV16 (P = 0.30, P = 0.19, respectively). The odds ratios for histological HSIL+ were 3.26 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.41–4.40) in women with HPV16/18, 4.21 (95% CI: 2.99–5.93) in those with HPV16/18/31/33, and 5.73 (95% CI: 3.30–9.97) in those with HPV16/18/31/33/52/58. Including HPV31/33 genotyping together with HPV16/18 significantly increased the proportion of HSIL+ detection from 63.2 to 77.5% (P = 0.002) without significantly increasing the colposcopy per HSIL+ detection ratio (7.7 to 8.1, P = 0.66). Conclusions HPV genotyping played an important role in managing HPV-positive women with normal cytology. Genotyping for HPV31/33 should be added to the previously recommended HPV16/18 genotyping in triaging HPV-positive women in northeastern China.

Abstract
Background The infection with human papillomavirus (HPV) is the major cause of genital disease. This study assessed the prevalence and genotype of HPV among outpatient women and healthy women in Jiangsu, East China. Methods A total of 65,613 women aged 16–85 years were recruited from Nanjing Kingmed Diagnostics, including 45,736 outpatients and 19,877 healthy women. The cervico-vaginal cells were collected and then HPV types were detected using the Tellgenplex™ HPV DNA Test. Results The overall HPV prevalence was 17.7% for outpatients and 10.6% for healthy women. 13.7% outpatients were infected with a single HPV type and 4.0% were infected with multiple HPV types. Regarding healthy women, 8.5 and 2.1% were infected with single and multiple HPV types, respectively. The two most commonly detected HPV types were HPV 16 and 58 regardless of single- or multiple-type infection or source of the participants. HPV16 + 58 was the most commonly identified multiple genotype in outpatients, while HPV16 + 52 was frequently detected in healthy women. Highest prevalence rate was found in outpatients aged < 20 years and ≥ 60 years. Conclusions This study revealed the prevalence characteristics of HPV in both outpatient women and healthy women in Jiangsu province. Abstract
Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women and it is caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). High variation has been reported in the attribution of specific HPV genotypes to cervical neoplasia among various geographic regions. For effective control of cervical cancer through HPV vaccination, it is essential to estimate the cost-effectiveness of vaccination, to monitor the potential transition into other HPV genotypes, and to understand the distribution of specific HPV genotypes across a specific geographic region. In this study, the distribution of HPV genotypes was investigated in southeast China, from 2011 to 2016. The 12,816 cervical swabs collected from women (age 18–78 years, median 43.6 years) outpatients were analyzed. HPV prevalence among 12,816 cervical swabs analyzed was 22.3% (2,856/12,816). Among these positive cases, 2,216 had only one HPV genotype while 640 had multiple HPV genotypes. The cases with multiple types revealed 23 different HPV genotypes with the five most prevalent being HPV18 (18.2%), HPV52 (14.1%), HPV16 (11.9%), HPV58 (10.6%), and HPV33 (5.5%). The rates of HPV infection in patients with cervical inflammation, CIN-1, CIN-2, CIN-3, squamous carcinoma, and adenocarcinoma were 38.4%, 80.5%, 82.6%, 92.3%, 97.5%, and 93.4%, respectively. Four HPV genotypes, HPV18, HPV16, HPV52, and HPV58, were more prevalent in patients with CIN-2-CIN-3 and invasive cervical cancer. A comparison of HPV genotypes attribution to cervical cancer between southeast China and global incidences revealed distinct differences. Due to this unique prevalence, it is essential to streamline the vaccination development protocol prior to administering vaccines based on global data.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a member of the Papillomaviridae family. The prevalence of HPV genotypes may vary according to the region and the population studied. Quilombo communities are ethnic and racial groups with difficult access to health services compared to the general population in Brazil. The aim of this study was to identify specific HPV types correlating with sociodemographic/behavioral characteristics and cervical smear cytological abnormalities in Quilombola women. METHODS This cross-sectional study included 395 Quilombola women users of the Unified Health System of the Municipalities of Maranhão for the screening of cervical cancer. The samples were analyzed for the presence of cytological abnormalities by conventional methods and tested for 37 HPV genotypes using polymerase chain reaction with primers PGMY09/11 followed by reverse line blot hybridization performed with the Linear Array HPV Genotyping Test kit by Roche Molecular System®. The association between HPV types and cytological diagnosis was investigated according to the different age groups. RESULTS HPV infection was detected in 12.6% (50/395) of the women. Infections by high-risk HPV types were more frequent. Genotypes 68 (26.0%); 58 and 52 (20.0%); 31 (10.0%) and 62 (8.0%) were the most prevalent. The highest prevalence (42.0%) of HPV infection occurred in women diagnosed with high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion. There was a statistically significant association between HPV infection and the detection of cytological abnormalities in all age groups except in women over 60 years. There was a statistically significant association between the municipality of origin and the number of partners with HPV infection. CONCLUSIONS It is important to incorporate new cervical cancer screening techniques incorporating the cervical-vaginal cytology. For further studies, it is necessary to determine the level of knowledge of Quilombola population on health-related issues including HPV infection and cervical cancer. This will contribute to the continuous improvement of healthcare coverage among the population and enhance the implementation of cancer care in the state of Maranhão.

Abstract
Background There is limited data on the genotype distribution of human papillomavirus (HPV) in the Taihu River Basin, home to 1.29 million people on the coast of eastern China. This study evaluated the prevalence and genotypes among different female age groups in this region. Methods Twenty-six HPV strains (low-risk HPV 6, 11, 40, 42, 44, 61, 73 and high-risk HPV 16, 18, 26, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 53, 55, 56, 58, 59, 66, 68, 82, and 83) were detected using Tellgenplex™ HPV technology in samples obtained from three clinical hospitals located in different regions of the Taihu Lake Basin. Results The results showed that 1855 samples (20.97% of all samples) were found to be HPV-positive. Of these, 1375 samples (15.55% of all samples) were found to have a single HPV infection. Age-specific prevalence showed two peaks, one that corresponded to the group of 21–30 year-old women and the other peak that corresponded to the group of women over 51 years old. The three most prevalent genotypes were HPV52 (19.95%, 370/1855), HPV16 (13.48%, 150/1855), and HPV58 (11.32%, 210/1855). Mixed strains HPV58 + HPV33 and HPV58 + HPV52 were most commonly found in females infected with multiple HPV types. Conclusions This investigation reveals that HPV infection in the Taihu River Basin varied significantly among different age groups. The most prevalent genotypes are included in the nonavalent vaccine, V503, however this vaccine is not licensed for use in mainland China. The most frequently occurring genotypes should be considered in the development of next-generation HPV vaccines for optimal protection of public health. Abstract
Human papilloma virus (HPV) infection remains a worldwide concern, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa where cervical cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in women. The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence and genotypic distribution of High-Risk HPV (HR-HPV) involved in Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia (CIN) II and III and in cervical cancer in Parakou. Out of a total of 149 samples of cervical tissues archived, fixed and paraffin-embedded, 78 samples with histological diagnosis of CIN-II, CIN-III and cervical cancer went through deparaffinization with xylene, followed by an extraction of HPV DNA and the detection of HR-HPV by real-time multiplex PCR. The average age of the women was 40.05±13.99 years. The samples were positive to at least one HR-HPV genotype in 76.92% (50/65) of cases. The HR-HPV genotypes which are most common in the cervical cancer and in CIN-II and III were, respectively HPV-39 (38 and 37.50%), HPV-18 (35 and 31.30%), HPV-45 (35 and 31.30%), HPV-35 (9 and 25%) and HPV-52 (9 and 12.50%). The HPV-16 was absent. This study helped to detect (in samples archived, fixed and paraffin-embedded tissues) HR-HPV involved in high-grade precancerous lesions and in cervical cancer in Parakou, some of which are not covered by currently available vaccines.

Abstract
High-risk human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are highly prevalent worldwide, and HPV genotype distribution varies regionally. Molecular surveys of HPVs are important for effective HPV control and prevention. Fifteen high-risk HPV strains (16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 53, 56, 58, 59, 66, 68) and six low-risk HPV strains (HPV6, 11, 42, 43, 44, CP8304) were detected by cervical cytology from 10 501 subjects. High-risk HPVs, low-risk HPVs, and both high- and low-risk HPVs were detected in 14·5%, 2·8%, and 2·4% of cases, respectively. Of 1782 subjects with high-risk HPV infection, 75·5%, 18·1%, and 6·4% were infected with one, two, and ⩾3 strains of high-risk HPVs, respectively. HPV52, HPV16, and HPV58 were the top three most dominant high-risk HPV genotypes in our population with positivity rates of 23·0%, 17·7% and 16·9%, respectively. Multiple infection was common, with significantly higher co-infection rates of HPV58/HPV33 (12·9%) and HPV58/HPV52 (11·3%). Further data comparisons showed that HPV genotype distribution varied markedly between domestic and international regions. In conclusion, a monolithic vaccination strategy is obviously impractical, and regional HPV surveillance is essential to optimize current HPV control and prevention.
