Abstract
Children from minoritized racial and ethnic backgrounds are at a higher risk for exposure to trauma and violence because of longstanding structural inequities; yet, these children can experience resilience by drawing on assets and resources across multiple levels of the social and physical ecology. Guided by the Resilience Portfolio Model, this scoping review aimed to synthesize evidence from the quantitative and qualitative literature on strengths among minoritized racial and ethnic groups of children in the United States exposed to trauma, violence, and maltreatment. The review also explored similarities and differences in strengths across racial and ethnic groups. The inclusion criteria were peer-reviewed empirical articles published in the past decade (2013-2023), written in English, focused on U.S. children (ages 0-17 years) from minoritized racial and ethnic groups, and examined strengths and resilience in the context of trauma, violence, or maltreatment. Comprehensive literature searches were conducted using electronic databases. A total of 57 articles were included in the review. The review identified various regulatory, meaning-making, and interpersonal strengths, as well as combined strengths (i.e., a mixture of regulatory, meaning-making, or interpersonal strengths) among minoritized children. These findings illustrate the utility of the Resilience Portfolio Model in understanding both distinct and overlapping strengths across minoritized racial and ethnic groups. Our findings highlight the need for a more nuanced and expanded investigation of resilience, including the identification of culturally specific strengths, among minoritized racial and ethnic groups and subgroups of children.

Abstract
Underserved racial/ethnic minoritized youth disproportionately experience adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and discrimination, potentially leading to substance use disparities. Understanding the co-occurrence of ACEs and discrimination can identify predictors of substance use. Latino/a/Hispanic youth (N=1,179) completed surveys from 2005-2016; ACEs and discrimination were assessed when participants were on average 21.6 and 23.9 years for substance use. Latent class analysis examined differential co-occurrence of ACEs and discrimination and regression analysis investigated their longitudinal associations with tobacco, alcohol, problematic alcohol, and marijuana use in young adulthood. A 4-class solution identified a "low adversity" (n=378; 32.06%) group; next the "psychological abuse and discrimination" (n=361; 30.62%); then "psychological, physical abuse and microaggressions" (n=258; 21.88%) and "mainly microaggressions" (n=182; 15.44%) groups. Compared to "mainly microaggressions," the "psychological abuse and discrimination" group reported higher alcohol use (B=.316, p=.04) in young adulthood. Prevention should focus on reducing ACEs and discrimination exposure to lessen Latino/a/Hispanic youth behavioral health disparities.

Abstract
The current study examined race- and ethnicity-based differences in the reasons that youth report for vaping, with an emphasis on understanding the relationship between race/ethnicity and vaping for relaxation and stress/anxiety coping. This work also sought to go beyond examining race-based differences as a cause of tobacco-use disparities by assessing social connectedness factors that mediate relationships between race/ethnicity and vaping for relaxation and coping. Research questions were tested using data from the 2019-2020 California Student Tobacco Survey, a representative school-based survey of 10th and 12th grade public school students throughout schools in California. Overall, 7.78% of the sample reported using nicotine vapes in the past 30 days. The final sample included 11,112 high school student current vape users. The most important reason that youth vaped was for relaxation and stress/anxiety coping, with racial and ethnic minorities most likely to report this vaping motivation. Analyses of the structural mechanisms underlying the relationship between race/ethnicity and vaping reasons showed that minority youth reported lower school, peer, and family connectedness when compared to White youth. Lower school and family connectedness were in turn correlated with being motivated to vape to relax or relieve stress and anxiety, and lower overall mental health. Findings imply that future intervention efforts might profitably focus on reducing stressors associated with relaxation and stress/anxiety coping motivations and highlight the importance of connectedness for indirectly decreasing vape use risk by improving negative mood and mental health.

Abstract
Externalizing and internalizing behavioral problems occurs at a high rate among children. However, this has rarely been examined among Japanese children using a person-oriented method. Hence, this study aims to explore its subtypes and clarify their association with family-based group activities. We conducted a cross-sectional survey in a typical community-based suburban area for all families with primary school children in Japan. We investigated children's internalizing and externalizing behaviors based on the Japanese version of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), and different types of activities that family members frequently engaged in. Data from 206 families were collected and used for the analysis. The subtypes were explored using latent class analysis (LCA). The relationship between family activities and latent class membership was analyzed using a logistic regression model. Moreover, three latent class models and their probabilities were identified, namely, risk group (31.3%), moderate group (44.9%), and normal group (23.8%). Frequent family activities including play sports, traveling or hiking, watching TV and communicating, cooking or making a dessert, and doing housework, which were significantly related to the normal group. These results would add evidence to potential types of children's behavioral problems and preventive childcare practices needed in the primary gate of families.

Abstract
Currently, racial and ethnic differences in adverse birth outcomes and infant mortality are some of the largest and most persistent health disparities in the United States. This narrative review article synthesizes existing literature to present a conceptual model of how racism-related stress and adversity are critical determinants of such disparities. We describe how historical and ongoing racism has created conditions wherein women of color are disproportionately exposed to chronic, multilayered stress and adversity and how the biological consequences of exposure to these stressors confers risk for adverse birth outcomes. Next, we identify important priorities and considerations for future research, including the heterogeneity of racism-related stressors, biomarkers and mechanisms, chronicity and sensitive periods of exposure, developmental programming of lifespan health, resilience, and community-engaged research methodologies. Historical and ongoing racism has created conditions wherein women of color are disproportionately exposed to stress and adversity. The consequences of exposure to racism-related stress and adversity can confer risk for health conditions implicated in adverse birth outcomes and alter maternal physiology associated with fetal development and timing of parturition. Conjointly studying racism-related stress, biologic profiles, and birth outcomes is a priority for future research. It is important to identify factors that mitigate the impact of racism-related stress and adversity on birth outcomes.

Abstract
It is important to understand racial/ethnic differences in adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), given their relationship to long-term physical and mental health, and the public health cost of the significant disparities that exist. Moreover, in order to inform interventions and promote resilience, it is critical to examine protective factors that mitigate the relationship between adversity and poor health. The current study utilized latent transition analyses (LTA) to examine co-occurring profiles of ACEs and protective factors (from school, family, and community contexts) and links to health outcomes among 30,668 Black (10.4%), Latinx (12.3%), and White youth (77.3%) ages 12-17 (52.5% male) who participated in the 2011-12 National Survey of Children's Health (NSCH). Results suggested that greater adversity was associated with worse health, while more access to protective factors was associated with better health. White youth had consistently lower endorsement of ACEs, greater access to protective factors, and better health compared to their Black and Latinx counterparts. Efforts to improve child health and racial/ethnic disparities in research and practice must consider adversity, protective factors, and the systemic inequities faced by racial/ethnic minority youth in the United States.
