Abstract
Drawing upon the Social Cure theoretical framework, this study explores the intricate relationship between social inclusion, meaning in life, and resilience among Generation Z during the Israel-Hamas war. Notably, this cohort encounters heightened challenges in fostering close social relationships, resulting in a diminished sense of social inclusion. The study comprised 317 Israeli Generation Z adults who completed a structured online questionnaire. Results revealed a positive association between social inclusion and resilience, mediated by the presence of meaning in life. These findings underscore the importance of social inclusion in times of crisis in predominantly individualist contemporary Western societies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gen Z, the cohort of individuals born approximately between the mid-to-late 1990s and the early 2010s, has been noted to experience challenges regarding their wellbeing. Yet, addressing wellbeing issues among individuals in their productive years is crucial due to the significant impacts on innovation, productivity, and performance. Wellbeing is influenced by internal and external factors. One important external factor is technology. Concerns such as excessive screen time and the constant need for updated information, often referred to as the Fear of Missing Out (FoMO), have been associated with a decline in wellbeing. Nevertheless, comprehensive research examining the effects of screen time and FoMO on wellbeing remains limited. This study aims to explore both internal (such as FOMO, extraversion, and resilience) and external factors (such as social support and screen time) that contribute to the wellbeing of Gen Z individuals. METHODS The research adopted a quantitative approach involving 408 participants, with Smart-PLS utilized for both the measurement model analysis and the structural model analysis. RESULT Findings from the study reveal how social support, as external factor, is positively influencing wellbeing and resilience. The study also shows that resilience plays a role in influencing wellbeing. Therefore, the total impact of social support to wellbeing is strong, directly and indirectly. This study also shows the positive impact of personal traits, specifically extraversion to wellbeing. However, this study fails to show the dark side of technology impacted wellbeing. CONCLUSION The study expands knowledge on the direct positive relationship between social support, resilience, and well-being, revealing that social support significantly affects well-being both directly and indirectly through resilience. Additionally, it confirms that well-being is influenced by internal factors, such as resilience and extraversion, and highlights the impact of technology, especially Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) and screen time, on well-being. Practically, it encourages parents and educators to support Gen Z by fostering open communication, guiding resilience development, and monitoring technology usage to combat potential negative effects like FoMO.

Abstract
Many studies were conducted during and after the COVID-19 pandemic to examine its impact on young people's well-being. However, most studies are quantitative ones focusing on the negative impact of the pandemic on young people. In contrast, there are few studies examining the benefits of the pandemic using a qualitative methodology. Hence, we conducted focus group interviews to understand meaning-focused coping in 56 university students from late December 2022 to mid-January 2023 when Hong Kong was approaching the end of the pandemic. Thematic analysis using a deductive analytical approach based on the Revised Stress and Coping Model was applied during data analysis. The results showed that most students were able to generate positive experiences and emotions during the pandemic. Many of them reported improved mental well-being during the pandemic by infusing ordinary events with meaning. They engaged in adaptive goal processes by having a more positive attitude towards life. Students also found benefits in terms of enhanced personal strengths, better interpersonal relationships, and improved pandemic-related abilities. Furthermore, the current study compared the difference in the use of meaning-focused coping and perceived benefits by students with family or personal financial difficulties, students who coped well, and Mainland Chinese students studying in Hong Kong. This paper provides an alternative picture of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on university students.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic had detrimental effects on college students' psychosocial well-being due to campus closures starting in Spring 2020. This study examined changes in perceived stress and depressive symptoms before and during the pandemic using longitudinal data collected from students over the 2019-2020 academic year. We also compared data from this sample in Fall 2019 (N = 282) to data collected from another sample in Fall 2020 (N = 240). Latent change modeling showed increases in stress during Spring 2020. Additionally, the Fall 2020 sample had higher levels of stress than the Fall 2019 sample. Differences in stress and depressive symptoms did not depend on underrepresented minority (URM) status, income, gender, or membership in Greek life or other organizations. However, third- and fourth-year students and student-athletes experienced more stress during the pandemic. Findings suggest an adverse and differential impact of the pandemic on students' psychosocial well-being.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The turnover of new graduate nurses is a critical issue worldwide. A key contributing factor is the highly stressful transition from student to registered nurse. Graduate nurse residency programs support new graduate nurses during this transition and facilitate professional development. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to gain insight into the experiences of registered nurses' in the graduate nurse residency program. DESIGN A descriptive qualitative study design using thematic analyses. SETTING This study was conducted in an academic tertiary hospital in Singapore. PARTICIPANTS Registered nurses who completed the graduate nurse residency program were selected using a purposive sampling approach. METHODS This study was conducted from September to December 2023. A total of 19 registered nurses were invited to an individual semi-structured interview. The interviews were either conducted online through Zoom or instant messaging. The Zoom interviews were audio- and video-recorded and transcribed verbatim. A six-step inductive thematic analysis was used for data analysis. RESULTS Two themes depicting nurses' experiences of the graduate nurse residency program were elucidated, (1) easing the shift from student to registered nurse; and (2) facilitating the transition to becoming a competent nurse. The participants alluded to the importance of the graduate nurse residency program in playing a supportive role in enabling their transition. The provision of technical and soft skills were valued by the participants. The graduate nurse residency program also aided in participants' professional development through evidence implementation and mentorship. The graduate nurse residency program was an enabler of participants' intent to stay in the nursing profession. CONCLUSIONS The findings of this study show that nurses viewed the graduate nurse residency program in a positive light. The provision of a multi-modal graduate nurse residency structured program focusing on building clinical competencies, mentorship, and evidence implementation projects can promote new graduate nurses' transition into professional practice. Further research is needed to examine the long term impacts of graduate nurse residency programs using cohort or randomized controlled trials.

Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine how college students perceive and manage stress and anxiety in the university setting and explain their perceptions of the effects of MBAT, NCT, and MO on stress, anxiety, and general student functioning. Participants: 58 undergraduate college students participated in post-test interviews following their engagement in either mindfulness-based art therapy (MBAT), a neutral clay task (NCT) or mindfulness only (MO) interventions using a 5-week online format. Methods: Magnitude coding was used to describe participant's perspectives. Results: Many themes emerged including habitual creative practice, prioritizing time for the self, enjoyable/relaxing activity, learning new techniques, understanding of processing and developing self-insight. Themes in the NCT group were more surface level observations, whereas MBAT, and to a lesser extent, MO groups contained an element of deeper understanding and processing. Conclusions: These findings offer support for implementing online and accessible mental health strategies as a gateway to traditional therapies in college settings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Final year nursing students may experience higher levels of stress owing to the increasing complexity and expectations from their clinical practicums. Enhancing psychological readiness may be a potential strategy to enhance nursing students' transition to the clinical area. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effects of a psychological readiness enhancement for transition to professional practice program and a 10-week clinical practicum on students' psychological wellbeing, resilience, practice readiness and confidence. DESIGN A sequential mixed-methods approach comprising of a single-group evaluation and descriptive qualitative study. SETTING Final year nursing students enrolled in an undergraduate nursing program from one autonomous university in Singapore was recruited. PARTICIPANTS 148 final year nursing students participated in the single-group evaluation study. A total of 24 participants who completed the psychological readiness program were recruited in the qualitative study. METHODS This study included two phases. Phase I comprised of an evaluation of a blended psychological readiness program and clinical practicum. Data was collected across three waves to assess nursing students' psychological wellbeing, resilience, practice readiness and confidence. In Phase II, a qualitative study using individual semi-structured online interviews was conducted to examine students' experiences of the psychological readiness program and clinical practicum. RESULTS The psychological readiness program led to significant changes in students' anxiety and patient centeredness scores. The accumulated effects of the psychological readiness and clinical practicum showed significant improvements in students' practice readiness and confidence. Although there were no significant improvements in depression, stress and resilience scores, there were improvements in the trend across three waves. Students attributed these improvements to the psychological readiness program and sharing by the alumni. CONCLUSIONS The findings of this study laid the foundation for the development of psychological readiness programs. However, larger scale studies using randomized controlled trial designs should be used to confirm the effects of these interventions.

Abstract
Purpose University students have been one of the most affected groups worldwide during the COVID-19 pandemic, having experienced increased stress, anxiety, and depression. Resilience is reported as the most predictive factor in decreasing the impact of the threats of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, university students' resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic has not received much attention; this is a research gap that this study aimed to address. Methods Seventeen 2nd- and 4th-year South Korean students who had experienced at least one year of university life during the COVID-19 pandemic participated in this study between June and July 2021.This study involved three focus-group interviews that were recorded and transcribed verbatim, and data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Results Eight conceptual categories emerged from the three main themes distilled from participants' responses: 1) factors impeding resilience: experience of loss, experience of a dangerous situation, expansion of uncertainty, and accumulated stress; 2) strategies to strengthen resilience: change and innovation, loss and confrontation, and transcendence; and 3) outcomes from strengthening resilience: adapting to the changing world ("the new normal"). Conclusion s: This study found several factors that impede resilience and strategies to further support resilience. Universities and relevant community organizations can use these findings to develop educational programs and interventions to strengthen resilience in university students, helping them to better cope with future challenges and overcome adversity.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Adolescents represent an important demographic percentage in the studied population and in Emergency Departments (ED). It is imperative that health professionals and services are prepared to address this population. This work aims to characterize adolescents at the ED of a Brazilian private tertiary hospital. METHODS The study was an observational, retrospective longitudinal cohort that included 37,450 visits of patients aged 10 to 21 years of age, between January 2018 and June 2022 in the ED of a private tertiary hospital. The study evaluated the reason for the consultation, diagnosis, need for hospitalization, the medical professional responsible for the care, severity, and paying source of care. RESULTS 53.7% were female. Mean age was 16.2y for girls and 15.6y for boys (p < 0.005). The most common complaints were flu-like symptoms (17.4%), sore throat (8.2%), fever (6.7%) and limb trauma (6.3%). Flu-like symptoms were the main consultations caused in all age groups and genders. 36.8% were attended by a general practitioner, 35.8% by a pediatrician, 15.1% by orthopedics and 5.6% by surgeons. The hospitalization rate was 5.5%. There was a strong correlation between age and hospitalization rate (correlation coefficient [r = 0.93]; p < 0.001). The most prevalent diagnoses in hospitalizations were acute abdomen (12.7%) and trauma (9.4%). 78.2% of the consultations were classified as "not urgent". There was a strong correlation between age and severity (r = 0.86; p < 0.001). 92.7% of the consultations were paid by medical insurance. CONCLUSION In this study, flu-like symptoms were the single main reason for adolescents to search for immediate health care, in every age subgroup and gender, but represented a small risk for hospital admission. Limb trauma was more common in younger male teenagers. Acute abdominal pain and trauma were the most frequent causes of hospital admissions. There was a significant and strong correlation between age and both admission rate and severity.

Abstract
PURPOSE This systematic review and meta-synthesis seeks to explore cancer patients' journey towards resiliency. The secondary aim of this review is to identify unique resilience protective factors among cancer patients. METHODS A thorough search was conducted in eight electronic databases and the grey literature for published or unpublished qualitative and mixed methods studies. Studies that explored resilience among cancer patients were included. The studies were appraised using the Critical Appraisal Skill Programme Checklist. The overall certainty of evidence was further evaluated using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation's Confidence in Evidence from Reviews of Qualitative Research. Themes identified were synthesized using Sandelowski and Barroso's meta-synthesis method. RESULTS A total of 34 studies comprising 987 cancer patients were included in this review. Three themes and nine subthemes were generated from the meta-synthesis. The themes were: (1) Confronting the cancer diagnosis, (2) personal adaptations to cancer, and (3) drawing strength from others. The findings highlighted how individuals overcame cancer adversities through resilience, which is influenced by various factors, including life experiences, social-cultural stigmas, spirituality, social support networks, coping strategies, motivation, acceptance of illness, positive mindset, and engagement with healthcare facilities. CONCLUSIONS This review highlights the role of resilience in a cancer patient's journey. It emphasizes on the importance of building resilience in both cancer patients and survivors to effectively overcome the challenges of their cancer diagnosis. These insights are essential for developing interventions that promote resilience and improve existing psychosocial oncology services. Future research should focus on longitudinal studies to better understand how resilience evolves and pinpoint factors that can further influence one's resilience.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Supporting resilience for nursing student success is critical to future health care. This study explored the meaning and process of resilience among Generation Z traditional baccalaureate nursing students. METHOD Using a qualitative hermeneutical phenomenology approach, 13 Generation Z nursing students with the lived experience of resilience were surveyed and interviewed. Results were analyzed interpretively. RESULTS Themes of resilience among Generation Z nursing students were identified relative to study questions. Identified themes included "Maneuvering the Murky Water" and "This Can Either Ruin Me or I Can Keep Moving With It," as well as a resilience process within the context of nursing education. Open-response data provided further reflective insights on resilience and recommendations for resilience in nursing education programs. CONCLUSION Supporting resilience begins with understanding students' individual and generational perspective. Future nursing education research should include innovative interventions wherein the perspectives of Generation Z students are central to design. [J Nurs Educ. 2024;63(7):460-469.].

Abstract
Purpose: To identify the main variables affecting the academic adaptability of hospital nursing interns and key areas for improvement in preparing for future unpredictable epidemics. Methods: The importance of academic resilience-related variables for all nursing interns was analyzed using the random forest method, and key variables were further identified. An importance-performance analysis was used to identify the key improvement gaps regarding the academic resilience of nursing interns in the case hospital. Results: The random forest showed that five items related to cooperation, motivation, confidence, communication, and difficulty with coping were the main variables impacting the academic resilience of nursing interns. Moreover, the importance-performance analysis revealed that three items regarding options examination, communication, and confidence were the key improvement areas for participating nursing interns in the case hospital. Conclusions: For the prevention and control of future unpredictable pandemics, hospital nursing departments can strengthen the link between interns, nurses, and physicians and promote their cooperation and communication during clinical practice. At the same time, an application can be created considering the results of this study and combined with machine learning methods for more in-depth research. These will improve the academic resilience of nursing interns during the routine management of pandemics within hospitals.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is a growing interest in understanding the role of trait emotional intelligence and resilience. However, few studies have examined the relationships between the various factors of trait emotional intelligence and resilience. OBJECTIVE To examine the factors of trait emotional intelligence and resilience using a structure equation modelling approach. DESIGN A quantitative exploratory design using structural equation modelling approach. SETTING One university in Singapore. PARTICIPANTS A total of 300 undergraduate nursing students were included in this study. METHOD A quantitative exploratory study using the structural equation modelling technique was conducted. The Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire and Brief Resilience Scale were used to examine the relationships between trait emotional intelligence and resilience. The data analyses were conducted using SPSS and AMOS software. RESULTS The structural equation model found relationships between the various factors of trait emotional intelligence. There were associations between self-control, sociability, and emotionality scores with well-being scores. In addition, there is a relationship between emotionality and well-being scores on resilience scores. CONCLUSIONS The findings from this study illustrate the complex relationships between the various factors of trait emotional intelligence, and specifically how these factors are related to each other and resilience. The findings of this study propose that emotional intelligence are associated with one's resilience. For this reason, these findings will be important in the development of future resilience programs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Clinical practicums are a core component of baccalaureate nursing education. Following the coronavirus pandemic, there have been extensive changes in the workforce environment that may potentially affect nursing students' experience and readiness for clinical practicums. METHODS A qualitative study was conducted to explore final-year nursing students' experiences and readiness for their final clinical practicum before becoming a registered nurse. A purposive sample of 24 final-year baccalaureate nursing students was included in this study. Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted face-to-face via Zoom. The data was analysed using an inductive thematic analysis approach. RESULTS Three themes depicting students' experiences and clinical readiness were elucidated. The themes included: (1) Experiencing multiple concerns, (2) requiring a network of support, and (3) easing the transition to professional practice. Students considered the final clinical practicum as challenging and demanding which evoked numerous concerns. CONCLUSIONS Considering the stress that final-year nursing students experience, it will be important to devise strategies ranging from personal, relational, and environmental protective factors to enable their successful transition and completion of clinical practice.

Abstract
Background Influenced by socio-cultural and world events, Chinese society has significant intergenerational differences. With rapid economic and cultural development, the unique characteristics of Generation Z nursing students in China may influence the clinical education environment. However, the research on Generation Z in China is still in its infancy. Objectives This study aimed to explore the experiences and perceptions of Generation Z nursing students during their practicum in an intensive care unit (ICU) in the context of China's unique cultural and historical background. Methods A phenomenological approach was used in this qualitative study. Semi-structured, face-to-face interviews were conducted with fifteen Generation Z nursing students doing practicum in the ICU in a third-level hospital in Shanghai, China. The data were analyzed using Colaizzi's seven-step method. Result Three themes emerged: intelligent medical services empowering critical care, perception of multiple challenges, and affirmation of the teaching work in the ICU. Conclusions and implications The clinical instructors should use a combination of online and offline pedagogy, give positive guidance through role modeling, and develop the self-learning skills of Generation Z nursing students. This might help Generation Z nursing students relieve the stress of practicum in the ICU, more quickly adapt to the clinical environment, and enter nursing positions. The result of this research provided valuable information to help clinical practicum programs in China effectively educate Generation Z nursing students. Good education ensures that health care is safe and effective, making it easier for patients to get better.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a greater workload in the health care system. Therefore, health care professionals (HCPs) continue to experience high levels of stress, resulting in mental health disorders. From a preventive perspective, building resilience has been associated with reduced stress and mental health disorders and promotes HCPs' intent to stay. Despite the benefits of resilience training, few studies provided an in-depth understanding of the contextual factors, implementation, and mechanisms of impact that influences the sustainability of resilience programs. Therefore, examining target users' experiences of the resilience program is important. This will provide meaningful information to refine and improve future resilience programs. OBJECTIVE This qualitative study aims to explore HCPs' experiences of participating in the web-based Building Resilience At Work (BRAW) program. In particular, this study aims to explore the contextual and implementational factors that would influence participants' interaction and outcome from the program. METHODS A descriptive qualitative approach using individual semistructured Zoom interviews was conducted with participants of the web-based resilience program. A framework analysis was conducted, and it is guided by the process evaluation framework. RESULTS A total of 33 HCPs participated in this qualitative study. Three themes depicting participants' experiences, interactions, and impacts from the BRAW program were elucidated from the framework analysis: learning from web-based tools, interacting with the BRAW program, and promoting participants' workforce readiness. CONCLUSIONS Findings show that a web-based asynchronous and self-paced resilience program is an acceptable and feasible approach for HCPs. The program also led to encouraging findings on participants' resilience, intent to stay, and employability. However, continued refinements in the components of the web-based resilience program should be carried out to ensure the sustainability of this intervention. Abstract
BACKGROUND Non-cognitive skills are crucial for nursing students to achieve their academic performance successfully and perform clinical practice effectively. Although different non-cognitive assessment tools have been established in various disciplines, few are focused on nursing students. OBJECTIVE The study aims to develop and psychometrically validate the Non-Cognitive Skills Scale (NCSS) for nursing students. DESIGN Qualitative and quantitative research design. SETTING One university in Singapore. PARTICIPANTS A total of 347 nursing educators and students participated in this study. METHODS A two-phase design was used. In the first phase, focus group discussions and literature reviews were conducted to generate the preliminary items of the NCSS. Content validity was established with an expert panel of 10 members, and the tool was pilot tested on 20 students. In the second phase, the number of items was reduced based on correlation coefficients and factor loading. The psychometric properties of the NCSS were tested on survey responses from 300 students. The Brief Resilience Scale, Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire, and Big Five Inventory-10 were used to investigate concurrent and convergent validity. RESULTS A 39-item six-factor NCSS was developed with satisfactory model fit indices (χ2/df: 1.60, IFI: 0.92, TLI: 0.90, CFI: 0.92 and RMSEA: 0.05). Content validity was confirmed with a content validity index of 0.90. A pilot test was conducted to improve readability and clarity. Known-group validity discriminated against age and gender group differences in a predictable way. Concurrent validity and convergent validity were confirmed with acceptable correlation coefficients. Cronbach's α was 0.91, and test-retest reliability was 0.84. CONCLUSIONS The NCSS is a reliable and valid tool for assessing the non-cognitive attributes of nursing students. This scale can be considered an admission tool for selecting the suitability of nursing applicants for nursing programmes. Further validation of NCSS is needed using a longitudinal study design in multiple settings across countries.

Abstract
From a Psychology of Working Theory (PWT) perspective, this study aims to explore how career adaptability and decent work mediate the effects of career calling on the resilience of rural-oriented pre-service teachers. The Career Calling Scale, Career Adaptability Scale, Decent Work Scale, and Resilience Scale were used to survey 393 rural-oriented pre-service teachers. The results found that career calling positively predicted the resilience of rural-oriented pre-service teachers; career adaptability mediated the relationship between career calling and resilience of rural-oriented pre-service teachers; decent work mediated the relationship between career calling and resilience of rural oriented pre-service teachers; and career adaptability and decent work play a chain mediating role between career calling and career adaptability of rural-oriented pre-service teachers. Therefore, this study concludes that career calling not only directly influences the resilience of rural-oriented pre-service teachers, but also indirectly influences the resilience of rural-oriented pre-service teachers through career adaptability and decent work.

Abstract
PURPOSE This systematic review, meta-analysis and meta-regression aimed to (1) evaluate the effects of resilience interventions on cancer patients' resilience and posttraumatic growth and (2) identify essential contents and features of resilience interventions. METHODS A systematic review, meta-analysis, and meta-regression analyses were conducted. Published and unpublished randomised controlled trials evaluating the effects of resilience interventions among cancer patients were retrieved from nine databases, trial registries, and grey literature. The mean and standard deviation scores were used to compute the effect sizes. RESULTS 23 randomised controlled trials comprising 3287 cancer patients were included. The random effects model found that resilience interventions had beneficial impacts on patients' resilience, posttraumatic growth, quality of life, anxiety, and depressive symptoms with moderate to large effects. The subgroup analyses concluded that theoretically guided interventions that adopted synchronous communication delivered physically had greater effect sizes. Interventions comprising skills that promote patients' cognitive flexibility, self-efficacy, self-esteem, self-regulation, and coping had greater effect in comparison with interventions lacking these components. The meta-regression analyses revealed that sample size has a significant effect on posttraumatic growth scores. More well-designed trials are needed to confirm the effects of resilience interventions. CONCLUSIONS There is merit in utilizing resilience interventions to improve cancer patients' resilience and psychological well-being. Resilience interventions should be incorporated into the routine care for cancer patients and survivors.

Abstract
Objective: College student mental health has been decreasing and lifestyle factors may be an important factor in improving mental health. These behaviors may cluster together in complex ways, which could impact the success of lifestyle interventions. Participants: Two samples of U.S. undergraduate college students were drawn from the American College Health Association's National College Health Assessment (NCHA). The data were collected in Fall of 2019 (N = 30,075) and Spring of 2021 (N = 70,059). Methods: Students responded to various health and well-being related questions. Network models were used to examine how lifestyle behaviors cluster together and additional models contained both lifestyle behaviors and health and well-being outcomes. Results: Lifestyle clustering was found, and some similar patterns were seen across time periods and across levels of psychological distress. Conclusions: Individual lifestyle behaviors exist within a complex lifestyle network, which may need to be accounted for in lifestyle interventions.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Under globalization, human settlement has become a major risk factor affecting life. The relationship between humans and the environment is crucial for improving community resilience and coping with globalization. This study focuses on the key contradictions of community development under globalization, exploring community resilience by analyzing the mismatch between residents' health activities and the environment. METHODS Using data from Shanghai downtown, including land use, Sports app, geospatial and urban statistics, this paper constructs a comprehensive community resilience index (CRI) model based on the DPSIR model. This model enables quantitative analysis of the spatial and temporal distribution of Community Human Settlement Resilience (CR). Additionally, the paper uses geodetector and Origin software to analyze the coupling relationship between drivers and human settlement resilience. RESULTS i) The scores of CR showed a "slide-shaped" fluctuation difference situation; ii) The spatial pattern of CR showed a "pole-core agglomeration and radiation" type and a "ring-like agglomeration and radiation" type. iii) Distance to bus stops, average annual temperature, CO2 emissions, building density and number of jogging trajectories are the dominant factors affecting the resilience level of community human settlement. CONCLUSION This paper contributes to the compilation of human settlement evaluation systems globally, offering insights into healthy community and city assessments worldwide. The findings can guide the creation of similar evaluation systems and provide valuable references for building healthy communities worldwide.

Abstract
Previous literature shows that university students are particularly vulnerable to psychological ill-being. Also throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, stressors ranging from uncertainty to disruption of social lives have influenced their well-being. Resilience as a psychological resource could help students deal with such crises. Furthermore, students' learning environment can substantially determine their well-being and resilience, by satisfying their basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness. The present study aims to longitudinally investigate students' well-being and resilience in relation to their learning environment. To this end, we interviewed six participants, of which two were university students, two university teachers, one study advisor, and one student psychologist. With a longitudinal interview study with four dates of measurement, spanning the pre to mid-COVID-19 pandemic period, we gathered commentary about the evolution of student well-being, resilience factors, and the effects of the learning environment. To analyse the interview data, we used thematic inductive and deductive coding. The participants confirmed the postulated stressors, but also positive consequences for student well-being, including resilience growth. Interviewees also reported a variety of resilience factors, both within the individual (e.g. social support) and within academia (e.g., impaired student-teacher relationship, diminished sense of belonging). Furthermore, the interview data indicate changes in teaching related to students' needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness, which in turn have consequences for learning and engagement, including challenges, opportunities, and positive outcomes. These findings, connecting the learning environment to student well-being and resilience, may help reshape academic systems for the post-pandemic future.

Abstract
In 2020, the US was consumed by the COVID-19 pandemic and racial justice protests. California was further compounded by a devastating fall wildfire season. Negative effects related to these events have been documented in research. Objective: This study sought to expand the literature by exploring areas of personal growth and development among college students with a lens on the impact of these three events. Methods: A diverse group of undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in a large public university system in California were recruited to participate in one of six focus groups held during the winter of 2020/2021 with 35 students. Findings: Thematic analysis was used to develop three themes: 1) experiencing fluctuation and repetition, 2) understanding myself and the world, and 3) finding hope and wanting action. Conclusions: Findings suggest opportunities for academic institutions to enhance critical thinking about contemporary issues and support students in developing skills to navigate change and transition successfully.

Abstract
Interpersonal coordination of body movement-or similarity in patterning and timing of body movement between interaction partners-is well documented in face-to-face (FTF) conversation. Here, we investigated the degree to which interpersonal coordination is impacted by the amount of visual information available and the type of interaction conversation partners are having. To do so within a naturalistic context, we took advantage of the increased familiarity with videoconferencing (VC) platforms and with limited visual information in FTF conversation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Pairs of participants communicated in one of three ways: FTF in a laboratory setting while socially distanced and wearing face masks; VC in a laboratory setting with a view of one another's full movements; or VC in a remote setting with a view of one another's face and shoulders. Each pair held three conversations: affiliative, argumentative, and cooperative task-based. We quantified interpersonal coordination as the relationship between the two participants' overall body movement using nonlinear time series analyses. Coordination changed as a function of the contextual constraints, and these constraints interacted with coordination patterns to affect subjective conversation outcomes. Importantly, we found patterns of results that were distinct from previous research; we hypothesize that these differences may be due to changes in the broader social context from COVID-19. Taken together, our results are consistent with a dynamical systems view of social phenomena, with interpersonal coordination emerging from the interaction between components, constraints, and history of the system.

Abstract
PURPOSE The practice of feedback is influenced by the characteristics of students, teachers, and the clinical environment. Most studies on feedback have been conducted in Western settings with different sociocultural backgrounds to Indonesia. This study explores feedback in Indonesian clinical clerkship using a sociocultural lens and aims to provide an exemplar of adaptive practice relevant to non-Western settings. METHODS This qualitative study was conducted using an interpretive phenomenology approach. Data were collected through focus groups with students and teachers and interviews with program coordinators. Data were transcribed verbatim and grouped according to data sources, coded, and analyzed thematically. RESULTS Themes identified from the focus group discussions and interviews were categorized as student, teacher, and environmental factors. Student factors include dependence on feedback, tendencies to use a group approach, difficulties recognizing social rules, a perceived lack of resilience, and tendencies to doubt praise. Factors related to teachers include a high level of expertise, being extremely busy, having a strong commitment, and being unsure of students' acceptance of feedback. Clinical environment factors influence interactions between teachers and learners and include high power distance and collectivistic values. A safe environment is needed to ensure effective feedback interactions. CONCLUSION High power distance, collectivism, and generational characteristics of students likely impact feedback practice in clinical settings. Designing a safe environment is essential for effective feedback practice.

Abstract
AIMS To investigate the mediating role of resilience and academic motivation between academic stress and self-directed learning. BACKGROUND Academic stress in nursing students is a well-reported concept that affects resilience, academic motivation and self-directed learning. However, there is a dearth of studies investigating the mediating role of resilience and academic motivation between academic stress and self-directed learning. DESIGN Cross-sectional study and mediation analysis. METHODS Nursing students (n = 718) were recruited from five nursing schools via convenience sampling. Four self-report scales (Perception of Academic Stress Scale, Connor and Davidson Resilience Scale, Short Academic Motivation Scale and Self-directed Learning Instrument) were used to collect data from August to December 2022. Pearson's r, bivariate analysis and multistage regression analyses were employed to analyze the data. RESULTS Academic stress negatively influences nursing students' resilience, academic motivation and self-directed learning. Resilience and academic motivation have a positive impact on self-directed learning. Resilience and academic motivation mediate the relationship between academic stress and self-directed learning, as evidenced by a reduction in the negative impacts of academic stress on nursing students. CONCLUSION Resilience and academic motivation, as mediators, reduce the effects of academic stress on self-directed learning. Nursing educators and administrators should promote programs that strengthen resilience and academic motivation. Thus, improving educational and clinical performance.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mental health of students in higher education was affected during the COVID-19 pandemic. AIM To examine the emotional wellbeing of midwifery students in the Netherlands and Flanders (Belgium) during COVID-19. METHODS A cross-sectional online-based survey with 619 Dutch and Flemish midwifery students. Sociodemographic details were obtained. Anxiety and depression were measured twice (T1, T2) during the COVID-19 pandemic. FINDINGS Flemish students had significantly higher mean depression and anxiety scores than Dutch students during the total period of study (p < .001; p < .001). Total group mean depression and anxiety scores were significantly higher at T2 compared to T1 (p < .001; p < .001). In the Dutch student group, there was a significant increase of depression from T1 to T2 (p < .001). In the Flemish student group, both depression and anxiety scores significantly increased from T1 to T2 (p < .001; p < .001). A history of psychological problems predicted both depression and anxiety, irrespective of COVID-19 period or country (p < .001; p < .001). Being single (p.015) and having a job (p.046) predicted depression, irrespective of period or country. A history of psychological problems predicted depression (p.004; p < .001) and anxiety (p.003; p.001) during the total period of study. Being single also predicted depression during T2 (p.024). CONCLUSION These findings inform how emotional wellbeing of midwifery students was affected during the COVID-19 pandemic and identify those students that might need extra attention after the pandemic, during another pandemic or similar situations with social restrictions.

Abstract
Despite the growing body of research on the factors of resilience in diverse fields, there is still a dearth of particular attention on foreign language learning resilience. To fill the gap, this study seeks to develop the foreign language learning resilience scale (FLLRS) to measure its psychometric scale reliability and validity in Chinese English-as-a-foreign-language contexts. Valid data were collected from 313 Chinese English-as-a-foreign-language college students who voluntarily participated in the survey. The FLLRS was validated based on a series of reliability (e.g., item analysis, split-half reliability and internal consistency) and validity (e.g., construct validity, convergent validity and discriminant validity) tests. Results suggested that the 19-item FLLRS presented three factors: ego resilience, metacognitive resilience and social resilience. Besides, all the three factors contributed high effects to foreign language learning resilience. Among the three factors, metacognitive resilience was found to have the highest path coefficient, followed by social resilience, with ego resilience having the lowest. The validated scale could advance knowledge in the field of second language acquisition regarding how learners' individual differences, emotional factors and the contextual antecedents may affect foreign language learning resilience.

Abstract
Resilience training is gaining attention as a strategy to build students' resistance to adversity and promote their mental well-being. However, owing to inconsistencies and variations in the content and delivery of resilience training, more work is needed to examine students' experiences and preferences to address issues relating to intervention fidelity. This study adopted a qualitative approach in exploring students' experience of synchronous and asynchronous versions of a digital resilience training program. Seventeen students were interviewed using a semi-structured virtual face-to-face interview via Zoom. The thematic analyses unveiled four themes: embarking on a journey toward resilience, discovering strategies to develop resilience, finding a balance to benefit from resilience skill enhancement, and instilling resilience in the everyday. Future resilience training should consider students' workload and interactivity to enhance their engagement. As being resilient is associated with better mental well-being, the findings of this study may support the development of future wellness programs.

Abstract
Protective factors that build students' resilience are known. A six-week digital resilience training program was developed on the basis of theory, evidence, and contextual information. The feasibility study sought to evaluate the acceptability, appropriateness, demand, implementation, and limited efficacy of a digital resilience skills enhancement program for undergraduate students. A single group, pre-test, post-test, concurrent mixed methods design among 10 undergraduate students was conducted in one university in Singapore. The content analysis concluded that students accepted and perceived the digital resilience skills enhancement program as appropriate. Students also proposed several improvements, such as the initiation of the program and revisions to the content. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test found significant improvements in resilience (p = 0.02) and meta-cognitive self-regulation (p = 0.01) scores with medium (d = 0.79, 95% CI: -0.15 to 1.74) and very large effect sizes (d = 1.31, 95% CI: 0.30-2.33), respectively. Students found the digital resilience program appropriate and were able to apply their newly acquired skills to promote their resilience and learning. Although, several improvements are proposed to enhance the rigor of the digital resilience program, the findings of this study suggests that digital resilience programs are important for students' well-being.

Abstract
In the current study we seek to examine the difference between Generation Z and Generation X in terms of coping with a global crisis (COVID-19), specifically regarding resilience in times of crisis, personal values and attitudes during that time. Based on the theory of generations, we aimed to explore whether different generations have different levels of resilience, values and attitudes during the global crisis. Data were gathered in a cross-sectional study; 958 participants participated, divided into two age-groups: 508 participants of Generation Z (ages ranged between 18-24; 53.9% males [Age: M = 21.05, SD = 1.96]; 46.1% females [Age: M = 21.14, SD = 1.83]), and 205 participants of Generation X (ages ranged between 40-50; 54.2% males [Age: M = 45.16, SD = 3.15]; 45.8% females [Age: M = 45.23, SD = 3.01]). It was found that members of Generation Z (Gen Z) were less resilient. Also, Gen Z members had higher levels of openness to change, and self-enhancement as compared to Generation X (Gen X). In addition, Gen Z were found to be more positive in their attitudes toward flexible learning but no differences between the generations were found as for flexible work. Both generation members had the similar attitudes towards online consumption. Despite the magnitude and significance of the crisis, the main values of each generation remained unchanged in many respects, but attitudes of both generations are positive towards hybrid work and consumption.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has put postsecondary students across the world at risk of psychological distress, negatively impacting their basic psychological well-being, including self-determination. Although the concept of self-determination has been widely discussed in literature, it is poorly understood within the context of postsecondary students during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to examine the concept of self-determination (SD) as it relates to postsecondary students amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Rodgers' evolutionary method of concept analysis was used. PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and ERIC were electronically searched using the keywords "postsecondary students" "coronavirus pandemic" and "self-determination." The historical, legal, educational, and health science literature were investigated to generate a holistic definition of SD in the past. This analysis has identified the antecedents, attributes, and consequences of self-determination in postsecondary students during this global health crisis. This analysis adds to the knowledge base regarding the evolution, significance, and application of the concept of SD in the context of postsecondary students amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Implications for future research were also explored, such as using strategies to promote SD in postsecondary students to develop resilience during the pandemic.

Abstract
Several studies have already examined the psychological impact of COVID-19 on psychological well-being in samples of the general population. However, given the importance of future orientation for university students' mental well-being, it is important to explore whether and how COVID-19 affected this vulnerable population. Therefore, the current study aims to investigate the protective role of future orientation and the mediating effect of resilience on negative emotional symptoms (anxiety and depression). An online questionnaire was administered to a sample of 244 non-infected Italian university students. The mediation analysis results indicated that resilience fully mediated the relationship between anxiety and depression. Finally, the perceived threat of death from COVID-19 moderated the association between resilience and anxiety. This study shows that university students with higher levels of future orientation exhibit higher resilience levels and, consequently, fewer symptoms of negative emotions.

Abstract
COVID-19 lockdown presented a novel opportunity to study the experiences of people attempting to maintain friendships in the context of worldwide, government-enforced physical distancing and lockdown. Here we report on an experiential, idiographic qualitative project with a purposive sample of Scottish students. Data was collected via one-to-one on-line interviews with nine student participants (N = 9). Data was transcribed and analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Analysis highlighted three group-level experiential themes (GETs) and associated subthemes. Participants’ shared experiences of maintaining friendships were reflected in a dynamic process by which (1) ‘changes to communication’ were associated with experiences of (2) ‘effort and balance’ across friendships. Participants reported becoming particularly aware of the psychological processes involved in maintaining friendships, in turn, this was associated with (3) ‘reflection and growth.’ These experiential findings resonate well with several longstanding classic theories; however, they also speak to the particularities of the context in which the study was conducted. They suggest the need for a pandemic psychology that moves beyond the typical focus on the direct impacts of infectious disease to address the wider psychosocial impacts with equal vigor.

Abstract
How can sport community involvement influence life satisfaction during a pandemic? Self-expansion theory posits that individuals seek to gain resources such as positive interpersonal relationships for growth and achievement. By considering psychological capital (PsyCap) as a dispositional resource intervening between sport community involvement and life satisfaction, we examined an empirical model to test the chain of effects. Based on the stress process model, distress and generational group (Generation Z vs. others) were tested as moderators. Participants (N = 233) responded to the scale item questionnaire for model assessment. Supporting the hypothesized relationships, the model was supported with a significant moderated-moderated mediation. The mediation effect of PsyCap was stronger when distress level was lower and such interaction effect was amplified for Generation Z (Gen Z). Whereas the global sport communities and Gen Z were found to be more particularly vulnerable to COVID-19, our findings suggest that there are psychological pathways for fans to maintain their resilience. It is foremost imperative to lower the stress level of sport fans for their community involvement to positively affect life satisfaction. Gen Z were more stressed during the pandemic but individuals who managed to cope with stress were able to leverage community involvement to boost positive psychological resources. Acknowledgment of these effects brings implications for better management strategies and provides avenues for new research.

Abstract
Background The COVID-19 pandemic has forced higher education (HE) to shift to emergency remote teaching (ERT), subsequently influencing academic belonging and social integration, as well as challenging students' engagement with their studies. Aims This study investigated influences on student engagement during ERT, based on student resilience. Serial mediation analyses were used to test the predictive effects between resilience, academic belonging, social integration, and engagement. Methods The Student Well-being Monitor (SWM 2021) was completed by 1332 HE students studying at Inholland University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands. Predictive models were compared among students with low, normal, or high resilience using SPSS extension Macro PROCESS. Results A significant serial mediation model was found among all HE students, including positive mediating effects of academic belonging and social integration. More so, independent partial predictive effects of academic belonging and social integration on engagement were also present. Assessment of student resilience profiles revealed substantial differences between predictive models. For low resilience students, serial mediation was present and included the largest partial predictive effect from social integration compared to other groups. For highly resilient students, mediation via academic belonging was found, including the strongest partial and indirect effects compared to other groups. Conclusions Overall, academic belonging and social integration positively mediate the effect of resilience on engagement in addition to demonstrating independent positive predictive effects. Inspection of resilience profiles reveals substantial model fit differences, suggesting use of different engagement strategies between student groups. Findings contribute to understanding of HE student engagement during ERT in the Netherlands and provide novel insight on the mechanisms between resilience and engagement. While ERT continues to be required, engagement may be enhanced by stimulating academic belonging for all students generally, but low resilience students could be best served by additionally targeting social integration and resilience.

Abstract
Entrepreneurial resilience refers to the capacity to face, overcome and project oneself after suffering life events with a negative impact. Emerging adulthood and the characteristics of university life facilitate the occurrence of stressful situations that can affect well-being. The aim of this phenomenological research is to explore the strategic components of entrepreneurial resilience and how young university students have shaped their entrepreneurial resilience after experiencing negative life events. The present research is a multiple case study that was developed through a mixed methodology. The methodological sequence was quantitative and qualitative, with priority given to the qualitative phase of the research. Ten university students with high levels of resilience were interviewed. The data were analysed using thematic analysis. The results indicate that resilience is built through intrapersonal and exopersonal processes. These processes make up a set of strategic dimensions related to entrepreneurial behaviour that are used for the construction of personal projects.
