Abstract
Ultrasonic extraction has the advantage of higher efficiency in the extraction of F. velutipes polysaccharides (FVP), but the structure and activities with application value of FVP extracted by ultrasound (FVPUs) were unclear. FVPUs were separated into FVPU1 and FVPU2 and subjected to structural analysis, anti-inflammatory activity, and intestinal mucosal protection activity research. Compared to FVPU1, FVPU2 exhibited a higher molecular weight, smaller crystallinity index, higher contents of galactose, mannose, and fucose, a more stable triple helix structure, and stronger binding ability to Congo red and calcium ions. The research disclosed that FVPU2 demonstrated significant activity in alleviating the abnormal surge of NO, IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α. This outcome was accomplished through the suppression of the overactive TLR4/MyD88/NLRP3 signaling pathway. Furthermore, FVPU2 decreased the death rate of intestinal cells and enhanced the expression of Occludin, ZO-1, trefoil factor-3 (TFF-3), epidermal growth factor (EGF), and prostaglandin E synthase 2 (PTGES2) (p < 0.05). This study sought to advance the comprehension of the relationship between the structure and anti-inflammatory and intestinal protection activities of F. velutipes polysaccharides, contributing valuable insights to the field of food science.

Abstract
Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease characterized by airway inflammation. Lignosus rhinocerotis (LR), a medicinal mushroom rich in polysaccharide, has been traditionally used to treat various diseases, including asthma. This study aimed to fractionate, characterize and evaluate the anti-asthmatic effects of polysaccharides from LR (LRP). LRP was isolated and characterized using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), x-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. In an OVA-induced asthma model, BALB/c mice were sensitized, challenged, and intranasally treated with LRP. Experimental findings demonstrated that LRP exhibits a semi-crystalline nature with predicted structure of → 4)-α-D-Glcp-(1 → and → 3)-β-D-Glcp-(1→. LRP significantly reduced eosinophilia, Th2 cytokines, and IgE levels. Histological analysis revealed LRP's ability to decrease epithelial damage and epithelial and smooth muscle thickness in lung. Reductions in inflammatory cell infiltration, mucus production, and transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1 expression were observed, although not statistically significant. Gene expression analysis indicated that LRP significantly downregulated the inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression. This study highlights a detailed structural analysis of LRP and its potential as an alternative for the management of asthma. Further research is needed to elucidate the precise mechanisms of action and optimize its therapeutic application.

Abstract
Addressing the global health impact of inflammatory and immune-mediated diseases, this study focused on purifying and characterizing a neutral polysaccharide, APSN, from the Astragalus membranaceus. Employing high-performance gel permeation chromatography (HPGPC), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, we elucidated APSN's structural features, revealing a highly branched glucan with a 1,4-α-d-glucopyranosyl main chain and side chains at the O-6 position. Separately, we assessed APSN's biological activity, finding that it significantly modulates immune responses by inhibiting the NF-κB pathway in RAW264.7 macrophages and promotes endothelial cell proliferation and angiogenesis-related gene expression in HUVECs. These results position APSN as a potential therapeutic for diseases characterized by immune dysregulation and tissue damage, warranting further investigation of its mechanisms and clinical efficacy.

Abstract
The aging process endows Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae) with unique value and efficacy. This study investigated the dynamic changes in the fine structure, chain conformation, and morphology of water-soluble polysaccharides from Chenpi over time. In the initial storage period of Chenpi (1 year), Chenpi polysaccharides (CP) exhibited a triple-helical structure, with chains entangled and aggregated into rough spherical conformations. Galacturonic acid (GalA, 47.78 mol%) was the predominant monosaccharide. As aging progressed, the homogalacturonan (HG) regions gradually degraded, leading to decreases in molecular sizes (particle size, Mw, Mn, and Rg), a reduction in the degree of esterification, and a weakening of the semicrystalline structure. Consequently, arabinose (Ara) emerged as the main monosaccharide (41.38 mol%). Neutral sugars continuously enriched the rhamnogalacturonan (RG-I) side chains, forming highly branched single molecules that curled into spherical shapes. By 15 years, CP were fully degraded, adopting a compact molecular conformation with the triple-helix structure disappearing and sizes uniformly below 20 nm. However, AFM results indicated aggregation phenomena in 15-year CP. Additionally, CP viscosity decreased while thermal stability improved, reflecting the natural structural transformation of CP. This study provides scientific evidence supporting the application of Chenpi in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Abstract
Natural polysaccharides have been recognized as major bioactive components in skincare and wound care products. In this study, the skincare benefits and self-healing properties of Lignosus rhinocerotis polysaccharides (LRP) and its degraded products (DLRP-1, DLRP-2 and DLRP-3) by ultrasound assisted H2O2/Vc treatment (U-H/V) at different ultrasonic intensity (28.14, 70.35, and 112.56 W/cm2) were investigated. U-H/V altered the internal crystalline structure and microstructure of LRP, and enhanced the thermal stability. Due to the breakage of molecular chains after U-H/V, the moisture absorption of LRP was enhanced but the moisturizing property showed a different degree of reduction. U-H/V significantly improved the antioxidant, anti-tyrosinase and anti-inflammatory activities of LRP. Furthermore, the results of enzyme kinetic studies showed a mixed competitive-noncompetitive inhibition of tyrosinase activity by DLRP-3 and the inhibition constant of DLRP-3 on tyrosinase was 2.97 mg/mL. The apparent viscosity of LRP dispersions showed a first increasing followed by decreasing trend as ultrasonic intensity rose. U-H/V enhanced the viscoelastic properties of LRP gels without destroying their self-healing properties. This findings reveal that U-H/V is beneficial for improving the skincare efficacy of LRP, providing a theoretical foundation for the applicability of LRP in wound dressings.

Abstract
The effect of ultrasonic intensity (28.14, 70.35, and 112.56 W/cm2) on Lignosus rhinocerotis polysaccharide (LRP) degraded by ultrasound assisted H2O2/Vc system (U-H/V) was investigated. U-H/V broke the molecular chain of LRP and improved the conformational flexibility, decreasing the molecular weight, intrinsic viscosity ([η]) and particle size. The functional groups and hyperbranched structure of LRP were almost stable after U-H/V treatment, however, the triple helix structure of LRP was partially disrupted. With increasing ultrasonic intensity, the critical aggregation concentration increased from 0.59 mg/mL to 1.57 mg/mL, and the hydrophobic microdomains reduced. Furthermore, the LRP treated with U-H/V significantly inhibited HepG2 cell proliferation by inducing apoptosis. The increase in antitumor activity of LRP was closely associated with the reduction of molecular weight, [η], particle size and hydrophobic microdomains. These results revealed that U-H/V treatment facilitates the degradation of LRP and provides a better insight into the structure-antitumor activity relationship of LRP.

Abstract
Two novel Flammulina velutipes (F. velutipes) polysaccharides, FVPH1 and FVPH2, were isolated and purified after hot water extraction. The structural characterization revealed that the backbone of FVPH1 consisted mainly of →6)-α-D-Glcp(1→, →3,4)-α-D-Galp(1→, →4)-α-L-Fucp(1→, and →4)-β-D-Manp(1→, while the backbone of FVPH2 consisted of →3)-α-D-Galp(1→, →3,4)-α-D-Manp(1→,→6)-α-D-Glcp(1→. The branches of FVPH1 contained →6)-α-D-Glcp(1→ and α-D-Glcp(1→ and the branches of FVPH2 consisted of →3)-α-D-Galp(1→, →6)-α-D-Glcp(1→, and β-L-Fucp(1→. FVPH2 exhibited significantly better immunostimulatory activity than FVPH1 (P < 0.05), as evidenced by the increased expression of NO, IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α and pinocytic activity of RAW264.7 cells. As the most abundant structure in the polysaccharides of F. velutipes, the content of →6)-α-D-Glcp(1→ might play a crucial role in influencing the immunostimulatory activity of F. velutipes polysaccharides. The F. velutipes polysaccharide with a lower content of →6)-α-D-Glcp(1→ and a higher branching degree could significantly enhance the immunostimulatory activity of F. velutipes polysaccharides via activating the TLR-4/MyD88/NF-κB pathway more effectively.

Abstract
Polysaccharides fromArmillaria luteo-virens (ALP) were investigated for structural characterization and immunomodulatory activities. Three fractions (ALP-1, ALP-2, and ALP-3) were obtained with the yield of 2.4, 3.7, and 3.0 wt %, respectively. ALP-1 was proposed as a β-(1 → 3)(1 → 6)-glucan with a triple-helix conformation; ALP-2 and ALP-3 were both identified as α-(1 → 4)(1 → 6)-glucan differing in their Mw and branching degree with a spherical conformation. The in vitro digestibility experiment and in vivo experiments using cyclophosphamide (CY)-treated mice demonstrated that intraperitoneal injection of α-glucan (1 mg·kg-1·day-1) and intragastric gavage of β-glucan (10 mg·kg-1·day-1) both effectively restored the decrease in body weight, immune organ indexes, immune cell activities, serum immune marker levels, colonic short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) levels, and Bacteroidetes/Firmicutes ratio in immunosuppression mice. This study provides novel insights into the immunomodulatory activity of α- and β-glucans under different administration routes, thereby promoting their application in both food and pharmaceutical areas.

Abstract
In this study, a highly branched polysaccharide (GPF, 112.0 kDa) was isolated and purified from Gomphus clavatus Gray fruiting bodies. GPF was primarily composed of mannose, galactose, arabinose, xylose, and glucose at a molar ratio of 3.2:1.9:1.6:1.2:1.0. GPF was a highly branched heteropolysaccharide composed of 13 glucosidic bonds, with a degree of branching (DB) of 48.85 %. GPF exhibited anti-aging activity in vivo, significantly increased antioxidant enzymes activities (SOD, CAT and GSH-Px), improved total antioxidant capability (T-AOC) and decreased MDA level in the serum and brain of d-Gal induced aging mice. Behavioral experiments showed that GPF effectively improved learning and memory deficits in d-Gal induced aging mice. Mechanistic studies indicated that GPF could activate AMPK by increasing AMPK phosphorylation and upregulating SIRT1 and PGC-1α expression. These findings suggest that GPF has significant potential as a natural candidate to slow down aging and prevent aging-related diseases.

Abstract
Poria cocos (Schw.) Wolf is a well-known edible and medicinal fungus. The polysaccharide in the sclerotium of P. cocos was extracted and prepared into carboxymethyl pachymaran (CMP). Three different degradation treatments including high temperature (HT), high pressure (HP) and gamma irradiation (GI) were used to process CMP. The changes in physicochemical properties and antioxidant activities of CMP were then comparatively investigated. We found that the molecular weights of HT-CMP, HP-CMP, and GI-CMP decreased from 787.9 kDa to 429.8, 569.5 and 6.0 kDa, respectively. Degradation treatments had no effect on the main chains of →3-β-D-Glcp-(1 → while changed the branched sugar residues. The polysaccharide chains of CMP were depolymerized after high pressure and gamma irradiation treatments. The three degradation methods improved the stability of CMP solution while decreased the thermal stability of CMP. In addition, we found that the GI-CMP with lowest molecular weight had the best antioxidant activity. Our results suggest that gamma irradiation treatment could degrade CMP as functional foods with strong antioxidant activity.

Abstract
L. rhinocerotis, an edible and medicinal mushroom, has long been utilized as folk medicine and nutritional food in Southeast Asia and southern China. Polysaccharides are the main bioactive substances of L. rhinocerotis sclerotia, and they have attracted extensive attention of researchers both at home and abroad. In the past few decades, various methods have been applied to extract polysaccharides from L. rhinocerotis (LRPs) and the structural features of LRPs are closely related to the used methods of extraction and purification. Many studies have confirmed that LRPs possess various remarkable bioactivities, including immunomodulatory, prebiotic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor activities and intestinal mucosa protective effect. As a natural polysaccharide, LRP has the potential to be a drug and functional material. This paper systematically reviews the recent studies on structural characteristics, modification, rheological properties and bioactivities of LRPs, and provides a theoretical basis for an in-depth study of the structure-activity relationship, and utilization of LRPs as therapeutic agents and functional foods. Additionally, the further research and development of LRPs are also prospected.

Abstract
Ultrasound is increasingly applied to modify the structures and physicochemical properties of polysaccharides. Hence, this work investigated the ultrasound-induced changes in the rheological behavior and hydrophobic microdomains of Lignosus rhinocerotis polysaccharide (LRP). With an increase in ultrasonic time, the apparent viscosity, storage modulus, loss modulus, and the final percentage recovery of LRP/water system increased to reach the maximum after 10 min treatment and then decreased. These results indicated that short-term (10 min) ultrasound could increase the strength of the network structure of LRP/water system, while longer-term ultrasound (30 and 60 min) weakened the network structure. The self-healing properties of LRP/water system was not affected by ultrasound treatment according to repeated strain and time sweep data. The critical aggregation concentration of the LRP/water system decreased from 2.5 to 1.8 mg/mL after 10 min ultrasound and the number of hydrophobic microdomains increased, suggesting that ultrasound promoted the hydrophobic aggregation of LRP.

Abstract
The application of polysaccharides in the food industry mainly depends on their rheological properties and the polysaccharides in different concentration regions exhibit different rheological properties due to the interactions between polymer chains. Hence, this work investigated the concentration-dependent rheological behavior of Lignosus rhinocerotis polysaccharide (LRP) in water and determined the critical concentrations. The intrinsic viscosity of LRP was 378 ± 32 mL/g and the LRP exhibited more apparent shear-thinning behavior with increasing concentration. The LRP critical overlap and aggregation concentration in water was ~2.5 mg/mL, implicating the formation of hydrophobic regions may result from the aggregation and overlap between hyperbranched LRP molecules. The LRP/water system showed higher storage modulus than loss modulus with slight frequency dependence at the concentration of 15 mg/mL, exhibiting the structured liquid behavior. When the concentration increased from 10 mg/mL to 30 mg/mL, the compliance recovery percentage value increased from 58.51% to 92.30%, indicating the formation of a strong gel network in the LRP/water system. Furthermore, the micro-rheological test revealed that the LRP/water system exhibited a concentration-dependent increase in elasticity and viscosity and deterioration in fluidity.

Abstract
Although β-glucan could bind to Dectin-1 to exert bioactivity, the influence of molecular size and chain conformation of β-glucan on its interaction with Dectin-1 is still unclear. This work investigated the molecular sizes and chain conformations of five water-soluble yeast β-glucan (WYG1-5) fractions as well as their interactions with Dectin-1 by fluorescence spectroscopy and microscale thermophoresis. Results revealed a spherical conformation for higher molecular weight WYG and a stiff chain conformation for smaller molecular weight WYG. The WYG and Dectin-1 interactions were in the order of WYG-2 > WYG-1 > WYG-3 > WYG-4 > WYG-5. The spherical WYG-2 exhibited the largest binding constant of 7.91 × 105 M1 and the lowest dissociation constant of 22.1 nM to Dectin-1. Additionally, the underlying interaction mechanism showed that it may be easier for spherical WYG with longer side chains to interact with receptor Dectin-1.

Abstract
The effect of ultrasonic treatment on the structure, size and aggregated morphology of Lignosus rhinocerotis polysaccharide (LRP) was investigated. Ultrasonic treatment for 10 min has demonstrated to improve the aqueous solubility of LRP, leading to a uniform and narrow LRP particle size distribution. Meanwhile, short-time ultrasound was found to obviously decrease the molecular size parameters (Mw, Mn, <S2>z1/2, [η] and Rh) of LRP, and transform the hyperbranched LRP molecules into flexible and extended chains, which would reaggregate to form spherical aggregates under long-time ultrasonication. Additionally, Congo red experiment combined with CD analysis indicated the existence of triple helix structure in LRP, which was still retained after ultrasonic treatment. Furthermore, under short-time ultrasonication, the spherical aggregates with some branched chains in the native LRP solution could disaggregate and form triple helixes that could be further arranged to a dense network structure, but the untangled LRP chains would reaggregate after long-time ultrasonication. Abstract
Extraction processes significantly alter the structural and functional properties of polysaccharides. In this study, we extracted polysaccharides from Chroogomphis rutilus fruiting bodies (designated as CRP) using four methods, including hot water, ultrasound, microwave and sequential ultrasound-microwave, and designated these polysaccharides as CRP-H, CRP-M, CRP-U and CRP-UM, respectively. All CRPs were heteropolysaccharides with semblable monosaccharide types of glucose, mannose and galactose, mainly constituted of α-d-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 4). The extraction processes significantly affected the molecular weights, monosaccharide proportions, glycosidic bond ratios, branching degrees, triple-helix conformation and surface morphology of the CRPs. Among them, CRP-UM showed the highest yield and most potent antioxidative capacity in vitro and in HL-7702 cells, but the weakest activation of immunostimulatory response in RAW264.7 cells. In contrast, CRP-H exhibited the lowest yield but strongest immunostimulatory activity. Overall, microwave extraction could be utilized as a general and practical CRP extraction approach, based on its relatively high yield and bioactivities.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Lignosus rhinocerotis (Cooke) Ryvarden cultivar TM02, also known as tiger's milk mushroom, is regarded as important folk medicine in Malaysia, while is used for the treatment of liver cancer, chronic hepatitis, gastric ulcer in traditional Chinese medicine. However, there is no compilation of scientific evidence that its protection for gastric, and no attempts have been made to understand how polysaccharides in Lignosus rhinocerotis might promote intestinal mucosal wound healing. AIM OF THE STUDY This study aimed to investigate the effect and mechanism of β-glucan prepared from L. rhinocerotis using an enzymatic method on epithelial restitution during intestinal mucosal damage. MATERIALS AND METHODS Based on FT-IR, MALDI-TOF-MS, HPSEC-MALLS-RID, and AFM, the structure of polysaccharides from L. rhinocerotis was analysed. In addition, polysaccharides were used to test for wound healing activity in IEC-6 cells by measuring cell migration, proliferation, and expression of cell division control protein 42, Rac-1, RhoA, and Par-3. RESULTS β-glucan was extracted using enzyme-assisted extraction, and a yield of approximately 8.5 ± 0.8% was obtained from the dried biomass. The β-glucan extracted by enzyme-assisted extraction (EAE) of polysaccharides was composed entirely of D-glucose with a total carbohydrate content of 95.5 ± 3.2%. The results of HPLC, FTIR, and MALDI-TOF-MS analyses revealed EAEP to be confirmed as β-glucan. The molecular weight of prepared β-glucan was found to be 5.315 × 104 g/mol by HPSEC-MALLS-RID. Furthermore, mucosal wound healing studies showed that the treatment of IEC-6 with a β-glucan concentration of 200 μg/mL promoted cell migration and proliferation, and it enhanced the protein expression of cell division control protein 42, Rac-1, RhoA, and Par-3. CONCLUSIONS The present study reveals that the prepared β-glucan accelerates intestinal epithelial cell proliferation and migration via activation of Rho-dependent pathway. Hence, β-glucan can be employed as a prospective therapeutic agent for the treatment of diseases associated with gastrointestinal mucosal damage, such as peptic ulcers and inflammatory bowel disease.

Abstract
This work investigated the self-healing properties of Lignosus rhinocerotis polysaccharide (LRP) and the effect of temperature on its rheological behavior. Dynamic sweep tests (strain sweep, frequency sweep, and time sweep) showed that the LRP/water system possessed self-healing properties due to the entangled network formed by hyperbranched LRP molecular chains. The flow activation energy of LRP solution calculated by Arrhenius equation was shown to decrease with increasing LRP concentration, indicating that LRP solution at higher concentration was less sensitive to temperature. Temperature ramp test exhibited that LRP had a glass transition temperature (Tg) determined as 49.35 °C and the temperature effect was irreversible. Microrheological test revealed that the LRP aqueous solution can form a gel at room temperature with the concentration ≥ 20 mg/mL. This work provided a theoretical basis for the development of LRP-based self-healing materials and facilitated a deep understanding of the temperature effect on rheological behavior of LRP.

Abstract
Chemotherapy is still the most direct and effective means of cancer therapy nowadays. The proposal of drug delivery systems (DDSs) has effectively improved many shortcomings of traditional chemotherapy drugs. The technical support of DDSs lies in their excellent material properties. Polysaccharides include a series of natural polymers, such as chitosan, hyaluronic acid, and alginic acid. These polysaccharides have good biocompatibility and degradability, and they are easily chemical modified. Therefore, polysaccharides are ideal candidate materials to construct DDSs, and their clinical application prospects have been favored by researchers. On the basis of versatile types of polysaccharides, this review elaborates their applications from strategic design to cancer therapy. The construction and modification methods of polysaccharide-based DDSs are specifically explained, and the latest research progress of polysaccharide-based DDSs in cancer therapy are also summarized. The purpose of this review is to provide a reference for the design and preparation of polysaccharide-based DDSs with excellent performance.

Abstract
Water-soluble β-d-glucan was obtained from wild Cordyceps sinensis by alkali solution and ethanol precipitation. The structure characteristics were determined using high-performance anion-exchange chromatography coupled with pulsed amperometric detection (HPAEC-PAD), methylation combined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, and one-/two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Results showed that β-d-glucan had a structure of every seven (1→3)-β-d-Glcp backbone residues with two (1→6)-β-d-Glcp branches. Additionally, conformation properties in different solvents were investigated by static light scattering, dynamic light scattering, and HPSEC with multiple detectors. It was found that β-d-glucan in 0.5 M NaOH had a narrow unimodal distribution of hydrodynamic radius displaying a spherical coil conformation, whereas it formed severe aggregation in dimethyl sulfoxide. In 0.1 M NaNO3, β-d-glucan mainly existed as a rod-like conformation corresponding to a helical structure together with small aggregates (10%). This work added more information to the understanding of C. sinensis polysaccharides.

Abstract
In recent years, hyperbranched polymers, especially the natural hyperbranched polysaccharides (HBPSs), are receiving much attention due to their diverse biological activities and applications. With high degree of branching (DB), HBPSs mainly exist in the form of either a comb-brush shape, dendrimer-like particulate, or globular particle. HBPSs also possess some unique properties, such as high density, large spatial cavities, and numerous terminal functional groups, which distinguish them from other polymers. As a natural biopolymer, HBPS has excellent bioavailability, biocompatibility, and biodegradability, which have versatile applications in the fields of food, medicine, cosmetic, and nanomaterials. In this review, the source and structure of HBPSs from plant, animal, microbial and fungal origins as well as their biological functions and applications are covered, with the aim of further advancing the research of their structure and bioactivity.

Abstract
A fucoidan derived from marine brown algae has great potential in biomedical filed. Herein, the fucoidan was successfully isolated and purified by using chitosan microspheres, resulting in the sulfate fucoidan (CF) with degree of sulfation (DS) of 0.94. CF was identified to be highly branched, consisting of fucose (77.4%) and galactose (13.9%), etc., supported by the results of GCMS and light scattering with the structure-sensitive parameter of 0.98 in 0.15 M aqueous NaNO3. The individual CF and its desulfated derivative chains adopted sphere-like conformation in water, observed by atomic force microscopy. CF exhibited higher antiangiogenesis than the desulfated one and strong antileukemia activities through inhibiting cell proliferation and inducing cell apoptosis via cell cycle arrest at G1 phase in vitro. This work provided important information that ester sulfate groups of polysaccharide played an important role in the enhancing of bioactivities of fucoidan, and put forward to a potential drug to treat acute myelocytic leukemia (AML) and tumors.

Abstract
The differences between ultrasonic and non-ultrasonic approaches in synthesizing Lignosus rhinocerotis polysaccharide-selenium nanoparticles (LRP-SeNPs) were compared in terms of size, morphology, stability and antioxidant activity by UV-VIS, FT-IR, X-ray diffraction (XRD), dynamic light scattering (DLS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) with high resolution TEM. Results indicated that the SeNPs were associated with the LRP macromolecules in a physical adsorption pattern without breaking chemical bonds, and the ultrasonic treatment reduced the size of SeNPs, narrowed the size distribution as well as improved the stability. Due to the LRP compact coil structure loosed under ultrasonic cavitation, the SeNPs could be easily diffused into the LRP internal branches instead of gathering on the LRP surface and were well dispersed and eventually stabilized throughout the extended branches. After ultrasound treatment, the SeNPs had a minimum average diameter of ∼50 nm and the LRP-SeNPs could remain homogeneous and translucent for 16 days within 200 nm size. Furthermore, the ultrasound-treated LRP-SeNPs exhibited higher DPPH and ABTS radical-scavenging abilities than those untreated with ultrasound. This difference may be attributed to the reason that ultrasound can reduce the SeNPs size and increase the specific surface area, which provides sufficient active sites to react with the free radicals and suppress the oxidizing reactions. The integrated results demonstrated that ultrasound played a crucial role in the dispersion, size control, stabilization and antioxidant activity of SeNPs.
