Abstract
AIMS To examine chain mediating effect of discharge readiness and self-efficacy between quality of discharge teaching and self-management in patients after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). BACKGROUND Although self-management after PCI has significant benefits in controlling risk factors and delaying disease progression, the status of self-management remains unoptimistic. A large number of studies have explored the close relationship between the quality of discharge teaching and patients self-management, but little is known about the underlying mechanisms. METHODS The cross-sectional samples was collected from a tertiary hospital in China. Self-reported questionnaires were used to assess quality of discharge teaching, discharge readiness, self-efficacy and self-management. Pearson correlation analysis and mediation effect analysis were used for statistical analysis. REPORTING METHOD The study used the STROBE checklist for reporting. RESULTS A total of 198 patients with a mean age of 64.99 ± 11.32 (34-85) were included. The mean score of self-management was 88.41 ± 11.82. Quality of discharge teaching, discharge readiness, self-efficacy and self-management were all positively correlated. Mediation effect analysis showed that the mediating effects of discharge readiness, self-efficacy, discharge readiness and self-efficacy between quality of discharge teaching and self-management were 0.157, 0.177 and 0.049, respectively, accounting for 21.96%, 24.76% and 6.85% of the total effect. CONCLUSION The quality of discharge teaching for patients after PCI not only directly affects self-management, but also can indirectly affect self-management through discharge readiness and self-efficacy. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE To improve the life quality of patients after PCI, medical staff should pay attention to the influence of self-management of quality of discharge teaching, and develop intervention strategies based on the path of discharge readiness and self-efficacy. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION Questionnaires filled out by patients were used to understand the association between quality of discharge teaching, discharge readiness, self-efficacy and self-management.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The incidence of chronic diseases is increasing owing to the aging population; in particular, older adults living alone struggle with self-management and medical expenses. Digital health can contribute to medical cost management and health promotion, but its effectiveness for older adults living alone remains unclear. In a rapidly aging society, it is important to demonstrate the effect of digital health on improving the lives of older adults living alone and reducing the burden of chronic diseases. OBJECTIVE This study aims to examine the intervention effects of digital health on self-management, quality of life, and medical factors for older adults living alone with common chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, and musculoskeletal disorders through a systematic literature review and meta-analysis. METHODS We searched the literature using 3 databases, including PubMed, CINAHL, and Cochrane CENTRAL, for literature published in overseas academic journals up to October 2024. The final 11 papers were used for analysis based on selection and exclusion criteria. Meta-analysis was used to calculate the mean difference and standardized mean difference (SMD) for the selected literature using RevMan (version 5.4; Cochrane). The effect size and heterogeneity were calculated through 95% CI. RESULTS As a result of conducting a meta-analysis of 8 of 11 documents, there was a significant effect of self-management factors on moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (SMD=0.08; z=2.07; P=.04). However, among self-management factors, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (SMD=-0.04; z=0.91; P=.36) did not show statistically significant results. Among the medical factors, general quality of life (SMD=0.11; z=0.93; P=.35), depression (SMD=-3.95; z=1.59; P=.11), and hospital days (SMD=-1.57; z=0.91; P=.36) also did not show statistically significant results. However, it was confirmed that they improved after a digital health intervention. CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrated that digital health interventions are effective in improving physical activity in older adults with chronic diseases living alone. However, owing to the characteristics of older adults living alone, there is a need to further expand digital health to combine care services that can manage diseases at home.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Heart valve replacement has many complications that affect patients and their family caregivers. Increasing patients' self-efficacy in dealing with complications and reducing the care burden of their caregivers are among the critical factors that impact their quality of life. Today, smartphone Apps allow access to reliable information without time and place restrictions. It also facilitates teaching and learning through low-cost and easily accessible methods. OBJECTIVE This study was conducted to examine the effect of a smartphone App on the care burden of family caregivers and self-efficacy of patients undergoing heart valve surgery. METHODOLOGY A randomized clinical trial study with a pre-test / post-test design was conducted. Sixty patients undergoing mechanical heart valve surgery were referred to the Shahid Modarres Hospital and PT clinic in Tehran, and their family caregivers were randomly divided into intervention and control groups. The App was installed on the patients' smartphones for educational purposes, and they were given 8 weeks to use it. Sullivan's cardiac self-efficacy questionnaire and Novak and Guest's care burden questionnaire were completed for patients and their caregivers in both groups before and after the intervention, respectively. Data was statistically analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics through SPSS-18 software. FINDINGS There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups regarding demographic characteristics and the mean scores of self-efficacy and care burden before the intervention. However, after the intervention, the mean self-efficacy score increased to 47.43 ± 5.43 in the intervention group and 32.23 ± 3.25 in the control group, showing a significant improvement in patients' self-efficacy in the intervention group (P < 0.001). Although the mean self-efficacy score slightly increased in the control group, this increase was not statistically significant (P = 0.094). Furthermore, the mean score of care burden of caregivers after the intervention increased to 45.33 ± 6.34 in the intervention group and 53.86 ± 6.80 in the control group, showing a significant decrease in the care burden of caregivers in the intervention group compared to those in the control group (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION Based on the results, the designed smartphone App improved the self-efficacy of patients undergoing heart valve surgery while reducing the care burden of their family caregivers. Therefore, this App is recommended due to its effectiveness, ease of use, and low cost. Abstract
Purpose Drawing on the conservation of resources theory, we explore how job autonomy affects resilience and emotional exhaustion through psychological self-care (PSC). In addition, we study the impact of role overload as a boundary condition which dampens the beneficial effects of job autonomy. Methods Cross-sectional data was collected through an online survey among Canadian health care workers (HCWs) across multiple organizations. We performed structural equation modeling (SEM) to test the proposed hypotheses (N=860). Results Job autonomy had a positive relationship with resilience and negative with emotional exhaustion, both through PSC. However, high role overload hinders these relationships. Conclusion Job autonomy combined with reasonable workload allows HCWs to invest in themselves in the form of PSC, which in turn alleviates their emotional exhaustion and fosters their resilience. Accordingly, this helps HCWs in overcoming both current and future adverse events at work. Valuing autonomy and PSC through communication and contextualized human resource management practices will help support HCWs and health care organizations in turn. Indeed, nurturing resilience and reducing emotional exhaustion will provide and protect the needed individual resources to face future disruptive events, consequently leading to strengthen health care organizations.

Abstract
AIMS To map the diabetes-related content exposure of older adults with Type 2 diabetes mellitus, and explore the association between the exposure and self-management and the mediation effects of self-efficacy. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. METHODS This study was conducted among 257 eligible older adults with Type 2 diabetes mellitus from five communities in China. Diabetes self-management and self-efficacy were measured with standardised assessment tools. The variable of diabetes-related content exposure was generated by the collection of all content exposure and the transformation of Q-methodology. Descriptive statistics and the relative mediation effect model were used to do the analyses. RESULTS Among the participants, 61.1% had hyperbeneficial content exposure, 13.6% had hypobeneficial content exposure, 24.9% had irrelevant content exposure, and 0.4% had harmful content exposure. Compared with those with irrelevant content exposure, older adults with hyperbeneficial content exposure exhibited higher self-management scores (β = 0.448, 95% CI = 0.174-0.721); in the mediation model, the relative direct effect of hyperbeneficial content exposure on self-management remained significant (β = 0.377, 95% CI = 0.104-0.650), and self-efficacy significantly mediated this relationship (β = 0.071, 95% CI = 0.011-0.154). The relative mediation effect accounted for 15.8% of the relative total effect. Conversely, no significant effect of hypobeneficial content exposure on self-management was observed. CONCLUSION Social media can empower the self-management of older adults with Type 2 diabetes mellitus exposed to hyperbeneficial contents, with self-efficacy serving as a significant mediator. In contrast, exposure to hypobeneficial contents on social media did not lead to significant improvement in the self-management. This suggests that not all diabetes-related contents on social media are equally beneficial, and the relevance of information matters. IMPLICATIONS Healthcare providers should consider leveraging social media platforms in conjunction with traditional education programmes to enhance the self-management of older adults with Type 2 diabetes mellitus. Older adults with Type 2 diabetes mellitus may search positively diabetes-related hyperbeneficial contents on social media. REPORTING METHOD The report of this study adhered to the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) statement guidelines. Abstract
BACKGROUND The global aging population and rapid development of digital technology have made health management among older adults an urgent public health issue. The complexity of online health information often leads to psychological challenges, such as cyberchondria, exacerbating health information avoidance behaviors. These behaviors hinder effective health management; yet, little research examines their mechanisms or intervention strategies. OBJECTIVE This study investigates the mechanisms influencing health information avoidance among older adults, emphasizing the mediating role of cyberchondria. In addition, it evaluates the effectiveness of mindfulness meditation as an intervention strategy to mitigate these behaviors. METHODS A mixed methods approach was used, combining quantitative and qualitative methodologies. Substudy 1 developed a theoretical model based on self-determination theory to explore internal (positive metacognition and health self-efficacy) and external (subjective norms and health information similarity) factors influencing health information avoidance, with cyberchondria as a mediator. A cross-sectional survey (N=236) was conducted to test the proposed model. Substudy 2 involved a 4-week mindfulness meditation intervention (N=94) to assess its impact on reducing health information avoidance behaviors. RESULTS Study 1 showed that positive metacognition (β=.26, P=.002), health self-efficacy (β=.25, P<.001), and health information similarity (β=.29, P<.001) significantly predicted health information avoidance among older adults. Cyberchondria mediated these effects: positive metacognition (effect=0.106, 95% CI 0.035-0.189), health self-efficacy (effect=0.103, 95% CI 0.043-0.185), and health information similarity (effect=0.120, 95% CI 0.063-0.191). Subjective norms did not significantly predict health information avoidance (β=‒.11, P=.13), and cyberchondria did not mediate this relationship (effect=‒0.045, 95% CI ‒0.102 to 0.016). Study 2 found that after the 4-week mindfulness intervention, the intervention group (group 1: n=46) exhibited significantly higher mindfulness levels than the control group (group 2: n=48; Mgroup1=4.122, Mgroup2=3.606, P<.001) and higher levels compared with preintervention (Mt2=4.122, Mt1=3.502, P<.001, where t1=preintervention and t2=postintervention). However, cyberchondria levels did not change significantly (Mt1=2.848, Mt2=2.685, P=.18). Nevertheless, the results revealed a significant interaction effect between mindfulness and cyberchondria on health information avoidance (effect=‒0.357, P=.002, 95% CI ‒0.580 to ‒0.131), suggesting that mindfulness intervention effectively inhibited the transformation of cyberchondria into health information avoidance behavior. CONCLUSIONS This study reveals the role of cyberchondria in health information avoidance and validates mindfulness meditation as an effective intervention for mitigating such behaviors. Findings offer practical recommendations for improving digital health information delivery and health management strategies for older adults.

Abstract
Objectives This study examines the impact of social media-based education on health literacy status, self-care, and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) in individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Method This educational intervention study was carried out from March 2022 to June 2022 on diabetic patients visiting the diabetes clinic in Arak, Iran. The patients split into two groups: the virtual education group (n = 38) using the Telegram messaging platform and the control group (n = 38). Patients in the virtual education group received multimedia messages about T2D daily for 4 weeks. Data analysis utilized SPSS version 23 and statistical tests. Results The results of this study showed that the overall score of health literacy and the dimensions of reading, understanding, and evaluation were significantly higher in the intervention group than in the control group (p < 0.05). However, the score for the access dimension did not show a significant difference between the two groups (p > 0.05). The Wilcoxon test results indicated that the average HbA1c score significantly decreased in the intervention group before and after the intervention. However, these changes were not significant in the control group. Nevertheless, the Mann-Whitney test did not indicate a significant statistical difference between the groups regarding the average HbA1c score before and after the intervention (p > 0.05). Conclusion The findings of this study suggest that social networks provide a suitable platform for delivering self-care education to individuals with T2D. Furthermore, in the long term, it might positively impact the patients' HbA1c levels. Future studies with larger sample sizes can be beneficial in this area.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a major burden on public health worldwide. To reduce adverse events and complications, effective T2DM self-management is required. Self-management and glycaemic control are generally poorer in lower educated people compared with higher educated people. This study aims to assess the (cost-)effectiveness and to conduct a process evaluation of a diabetes self-management programme, 'Powerful Together With Diabetes' (PTWD), which is specifically developed for patients from lower educational groups. METHODS AND ANALYSIS The PTWD programme is focused on attaining basic knowledge and skills for effective diabetes self-management. In a previous study (the Diabetes in Social Context (DISC) study), lower-educated participants enjoyed the PTWD programme as well as improved their T2DM-related behaviours. The design of the study is an effectiveness-implementation hybrid type 2 trial. We will conduct mixed methods effectiveness, process and economic evaluations. To investigate the (cost-)effectiveness, a two-arm quasi-experimental trial will be conducted with a parallel mixed method process evaluation. The primary outcome of the study is change in haemoglobin A1c levels from baseline to 12 months. Secondary outcomes include use of primary and secondary care, medication use, blood biomarkers, T2DM self-management health behaviours, anthropometrics, and quality of life. Data will be collected with questionnaires, physical activity trackers and registration data from general practitioner registries. To see if the results are maintained, we will also measure the outcomes 24 months after baseline. Study participants are patients from lower educational groups living with T2DM between 35 and 70 years old. Participants will be recruited through general practices, and the intervention will be held in community centres. Our aim is to include 114 participants in the intervention group and 570 participants in the control group. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION This study has been approved by the Medical Ethics Committee of the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam (#2021_222). Participants will sign an informed consent form prior to enrolment. Manuscripts with the results of the effectiveness, economic and process evaluations will be published in peer-reviewed journals. Abstract
Background Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is highly prevalent worldwide and especially in Jordan, presenting a significant challenge in mitigating its associated complications, thereby emphasizing the need for effective management strategies. Aim The aim of the study was to investigate early predictors of quality of life (QOL) among patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Southern Jordan, focusing on examining the relationships and associations between diabetes self-efficacy, glycemic control, and diabetes self-care with QOL. Methodology The study adopted a cross-sectional approach conducted within Southern Jordan, employing a convenience sampling method. Participants were chosen based on their availability and willingness to take part. The study encompassed a sample size of 204 patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The study utilized the Diabetes Self-Management Questionnaire and the Diabetes Management Self-Efficacy Scale to assess diabetic patients' self-care levels and self-efficacy, respectively. Data collection spanned from 1 February to 15 May 2023. Results Patients demonstrated suboptimal self-care and low self-efficacy. Significant positive correlations were found between QOL dimensions, self-management, and self-efficacy. Predictors for Type 2 Diabetes Miletus (T2DM) patients' QOL were identified. For physical health, factors such as gender, comorbidities, age, occupation, location, self-care behaviors, and self-efficacy influenced QOL. Similar predictors were found for psychological, social, and environmental health dimensions, including gender, comorbidities, HbA1c levels, city of residence, marital status, and income, as well as self-care behaviors and self-efficacy. Conclusions The study findings underscore the importance of targeted interventions to improve the QOL for individuals with T2DMin Southern Jordan.

Abstract
Objective To explore the acceptability of family support through an AI-enabled mobile app and identify preferences for its novel family module features among patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and family members. Methods Semi-structured interviews were conducted with patients with T2DM and family members. A mock wireframe of the FAMILY module was created to help participants visualize the module features. All interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. Inductive thematic analysis using the constant-comparative method was performed to identify and interpret patterns within the data. Results A total of 25 patients with T2DM and 25 family members participated in the study. Participants viewed the FAMILY module as a valuable tool for reinforcing patients' self-discipline. However, some patients expressed concerns about family involvement, particularly among those who preferred greater control and autonomy over their self-management plan. Family members also raised concerns about caregiving burden and feelings of self-blame if they were unable to provide adequate support. Regarding module features, participants appreciated algorithm-driven nudges and in-app interactions but emphasized the importance of controlling the frequency of nudges. Features such as collaborative goal setting, report cards, and AI-powered smart logging were found useful. However, family members expressed a need for more personalized in-app advice on patient data and medical terminology to better support patient's self-care. In-app family resources should be tailored to meet the needs of first-time caregivers to enhance the module's usability. Conclusion The insights from this study will guide the development of the novel FAMILY module and inform targeted interventions aimed at mitigating risks, managing T2DM-related comorbidities, and enhancing self-care.

Abstract
Prostate cancer, a common malignancy in older men, often requires laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, considered the gold standard treatment. However, postoperative complications can significantly impact quality of life and psychological well-being. The emergence of mobile internet health management offers a promising approach for accessible and effective post-discharge care. This study evaluates the effectiveness of mobile internet management in postoperative care for prostate cancer patients, focusing on disease knowledge, psychological well-being, self-care capabilities, and quality of life. From September 2020 to September 2021, prostate cancer patients who underwent radical surgery at our Department of Urology were divided into a control group receiving standard care and an intervention group receiving mobile internet-based care. Patients were followed over six months, with assessments conducted at both 3 and 6 months post-intervention. We evaluated changes in disease knowledge, psychological status (using SAS/SDS scales), self-care ability (via the ESCA scale), and quality of life (measured by SF-36). A total of 112 patients were divided into two groups of 56 each. Repeated measures ANOVA indicated significant improvements in disease knowledge over time, between groups, and in their interaction (P < 0.05). Mastery scores of disease knowledge increased at both 3 and 6 months post-intervention compared to baseline (P < 0.05). The intervention group showed significantly reduced scores on the self-rating depression scale (SDS) and self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) compared to the control group (P < 0.05). Self-care capabilities-including self-directed concept, nursing responsibility, skills, and health knowledge level-also improved, with more pronounced gains in the intervention group (P < 0.05). Quality of life scores in domains such as social function, mental health, vitality, role emotional, bodily pain, role physical, physical function, and general health were higher in the intervention group than in the control group post-intervention (P < 0.05). Mobile internet management significantly enhances postoperative care for prostate cancer patients by improving disease knowledge, psychological well-being, self-care capabilities, and quality of life. These findings support further research to validate long-term benefits and broader application potentials.

Abstract
This umbrella review of 34 meta-analyses, representing 235 randomised controlled trials done across 52 countries and 48 957 participants and ten chronic conditions, aimed to evaluate evidence on the efficacy of mobile phone interventions for populations with chronic diseases. We evaluated the strengths of evidence via the Fusar-Poli and Radua methodology. Compared with usual care, mobile apps had convincing effects on glycated haemoglobin reduction among adults with type 2 diabetes (d=0·44). Highly suggestive effects were found for both text messages and apps on various outcomes, including medication adherence (among patients with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa and people with cardiovascular disease), glucose management in type 2 diabetes, and blood pressure reduction in hypertension. Many effects (42%) were non-significant. Various gaps were identified, such as a scarcity of reporting on moderators and publication bias by meta-analyses, little research in low-income and lower-middle-income countries, and little reporting on adverse events.

Abstract
Background West Virginia is a rural state with high rates of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and prediabetes. The Diabetes Prevention and Management (DPM) program was a health coach (HC)-led, 12-month community-based lifestyle intervention. Objective The study examined the impact of the DPM program on changes in glycosylated hemoglobin (A1C) and weight over twelve months among rural adults with diabetes and prediabetes. Program feasibility and acceptability were also explored. Methods An explanatory sequential quantitative and qualitative one-group study design was used to gain insight into the pre- and 12-month changes to health behavior and clinical outcomes. Trained HCs delivered the educational sessions and provided weekly health coaching feedback. Assessments included demographics, clinical, anthropometric, and qualitative focus groups. Participants included 94 obese adults with diabetes (63%) and prediabetes (37%). Twenty-two participated in three focus groups. Results Average attendance was 13.7 ± 6.1 out of 22 sessions. Mean weight loss was 4.4 ± 11.5 lbs at twelve months and clinical improvement in A1C (0.4%) was noted among T2DM adults. Program retention (82%) was higher among older participants and those with poor glycemic control. While all participants connected to a trained HC, only 72% had regular weekly health coaching. Participants reported overall acceptability and satisfaction with the program and limited barriers to program engagement. Conclusion Our findings suggest that it is feasible to implement an HC-led DPM program in rural communities and improve A1C in T2DM adults. Trained HCs have the potential to be integrated with healthcare teams in rural regions of the United States.

Abstract
Background Investigating the experiences and roles of nurses during Hajj is vital due to the unique public health challenges posed by the mass gathering of diverse pilgrims. Nurses play a crucial role in disease surveillance, infection control, and managing emergencies like heat stroke and injuries. Their insights can improve emergency preparedness and public health management. Objective This study aimed to explore the experiences of Indonesian nurses as Hajj health personnel caring for Hajj pilgrims during the 2023 Hajj season. Methods This study employed a qualitative descriptive design and selected participants through purposive sampling from hospitals, public healthcare centers, and clinics in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Nine nurses participated in the research, and data were collected through a focus group discussion in December 2023. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. Results Six themes emerged, including practicing ethical principles in providing health care during the hajj process, competency qualifications as a health worker, the health care process during Hajj, legal Requirements for Hajj, the importance of therapeutic communication skills to establish cooperation with various parties, and recognizing the role of duties and responsibilities during the hajj process. Conclusion The study emphasizes the importance of competencies, ethics, communication, and strategic planning in Hajj healthcare. Effective online communication, especially via WhatsApp, was crucial for coordination. The findings emphasize the need for strategic workforce planning, resource allocation, and continuous training to enhance care quality for pilgrims, informing better planning and policy development for future Hajj seasons.

Abstract
AIM To explore the association between nurse education levels and patient-related factors with hypertension self-care. BACKGROUND Although self-care development is recognized as a healthcare provider-patient encounter, the attribution of nurse education level to hypertension self-care is not well addressed. DESIGN A cross-sectional study. METHODS Hypertensive patients from 15 primary care facilities were sampled, and self-care was assessed using the Self-Care of Hypertension Inventory version 2.0, with standardized scores ≥70 indicating adequate self-care. Data on patient-related factors were obtained from electronic health records, self-reports and laboratory tests, while nurse education levels were categorized as standard (baccalaureate-prepared) or higher (post-baccalaureate specialty). RESULTS A total of 1493 participants were included in this study, with a median age of 66 years and 77.7% being female. Approximately 10% of participants had adequate self-care, and 66% received care from higher educated nurses. The study showed the relation between nurse education levels and the self-care of the patients. Adequate hypertension self-care was significantly associated with higher educated nurse providers and patient-related factors, including intermediate to higher education, non-overweight/obese and the absence of age-related comorbidities. CONCLUSIONS Hypertensive patients who had been provided care by higher educated nurses and their favourable sociodemographic, lower cardiometabolic risk and no concomitant disease were more likely to demonstrate adequate self-care.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Through the lens of self-determination theory, this quantitative study investigates how patient-provider collaboration through perceived shared decision-making (SDM) and autonomy support impact type 2 diabetes (T2D) outcomes. METHODS We sampled 474 individuals over 18 years old who self-identified as having T2D. Completed and valid responses were received from 378 participants from two separate groups in an online survey. Data was analyzed using the IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), AMOS package, version 28, and Mplus, version 8.8. RESULTS Patient-provider collaboration through autonomy support improved treatment satisfaction (β = .16, ρ < .05) and self-management adherence (β = .43, ρ < .001). While collaboration through SDM improved treatment satisfaction (β = .25, ρ < .01), it worsened SM adherence (β = -.31, ρ < .001). The negative impact of SDM on self-management adherence was mitigated by our moderator, coping ability. However, coping ability minimally impacted treatment satisfaction and SM adherence when autonomous support was provided. CONCLUSIONS Autonomy support increases treatment satisfaction and self-management adherence. SDM enhances treatment satisfaction but may adversely affect self-management adherence. The study also suggests that coping ability can mitigate the negative effect of SDM on self-management adherence, although its influence is limited when autonomy support is provided by the provider. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS For providers, SDM and autonomy support permits shared power over treatment decisions while fostering independence over self-management tasks. Providers should evaluate patients' coping ability and adapt their approach to care based on the patient's coping capacity.

Abstract
PURPOSE We need to know about the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) to assess their health outcomes. Quantitative studies have discussed whether patients with Type 1 DM (T1DM) have better HRQoL than those with Type 2 DM (T2DM) or vice versa. However, no meta-analyses have addressed the HRQoL of patients with T1DM and T2DM together. Therefore, the primary objective of this meta-analysis was to investigate the HRQoL of patients with T1DM and T2DM. The secondary objective of this meta-analysis was to use various scales to assess the HRQoL of patients with T1DM and T2DM. METHODS The inclusion criteria were (1) study participants were diagnosed with T1DM and T2DM and were aged 18 years or older, (2) outcome measure was HRQoL as assessed by appropriate instruments, (3) study written in the English language, (4) research articles using quantitative research methods, (5) study with full-text access, and (6) study reporting the necessary statistics to calculate the effect size. Cohen's d was used to calculate effect sizes, while the random effect model was used to calculate the joint effect size. RESULTS The sample consisted of seven articles, which recruited a total of 4.896 patients with DM. Patients with T1DM and T2DM had similar HRQoL. According to the EQ-5D-5L, patients with T1DM had a higher HRQoL than those with T2DM. According to the EQ-5D-VAS and SF-36, patients with T1DM and T2DM had similar HRQoL. The Egger's regression analysis indicated no publication bias. CONCLUSION Our results are sample-specific and cannot be generalized to all patients with DM. Therefore, more research is warranted on this topic.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Population studies show that musculoskeletal conditions are a leading contributor to the total burden of healthy life lost, second only to cancer and with a similar burden to cardiovascular disease. Prioritizing the delivery of effective treatments is necessary, and with the ubiquity of consumer smart devices, the use of digital health interventions is increasing. Messaging is popular and easy to use and has been studied for a range of health-related uses, including health promotion, encouragement of behavior change, and monitoring of disease progression. It may have a useful role to play in the management and self-management of musculoskeletal conditions. OBJECTIVE Previous reviews on the use of messaging for people with musculoskeletal conditions have focused on synthesizing evidence of effectiveness from randomized controlled trials. In this review, our objective was to map the musculoskeletal messaging literature more broadly to identify information that may inform the design of future messaging interventions and summarize the current evidence of efficacy, effectiveness, and economics. METHODS Following a prepublished protocol developed using the Joanna Briggs Institute Manual for Evidence Synthesis, we conducted a comprehensive scoping review of the literature (2010-2022; sources: PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, and PsycINFO) related to SMS text messaging and app-based messaging for people with musculoskeletal conditions. We described our findings using tables, plots, and a narrative summary. RESULTS We identified a total of 8328 papers for screening, of which 50 (0.6%) were included in this review (3/50, 6% previous reviews and 47/50, 94% papers describing 40 primary studies). Rheumatic diseases accounted for the largest proportion of the included primary studies (19/40, 48%), followed by studies on multiple musculoskeletal conditions or pain sites (10/40, 25%), back pain (9/40, 23%), neck pain (1/40, 3%), and "other" (1/40, 3%). Most studies (33/40, 83%) described interventions intended to promote positive behavior change, typically by encouraging increased physical activity and exercise. The studies evaluated a range of outcomes, including pain, function, quality of life, and medication adherence. Overall, the results either favored messaging interventions or had equivocal outcomes. While the theoretical underpinnings of the interventions were generally well described, only 4% (2/47) of the papers provided comprehensive descriptions of the messaging intervention design and development process. We found no relevant economic evaluations. CONCLUSIONS Messaging has been used for the care and self-management of a range of musculoskeletal conditions with generally favorable outcomes reported. However, with few exceptions, design considerations are poorly described in the literature. Further work is needed to understand and disseminate information about messaging content and message delivery characteristics, such as timing and frequency specifically for people with musculoskeletal conditions. Similarly, further work is needed to understand the economic effects of messaging and practical considerations related to implementation and sustainability. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), blood pressure, self-efficacy, and quality of life efficacy of using telecare services for community-dwelling people with diabetes. METHODS Cochrane Library, Web of Science, PsycINFO, PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, and Scopus databases were systematically searched from their inception dates to June 22, 2023. Two evaluators independently selected and evaluated eligible studies. A protocol was registered in PROSPERO. RESULTS An analysis of 17 studies that included 3586 subjects showed that telecare significantly improved the management of patients with diabetes. Compared to controls, intervention care had significant benefits regarding HbA1c (MD = -0.30, 95 % CI = -0.44 - -0.17, 16 studies), systolic blood pressure (MD = -2.45, 95 % CI = -4.53 - -0.36, P = 0.02), self-efficacy (MD = 0.36, 95 % CI = 0.04 - 0.67, P = 0.03) and quality of life (MD = 0.37, 95 % CI = 0.05 - 0.70, P = 0.02). However, diastolic blood pressure (MD = -1.37, 95 % CI = -3.34 - -0.61, P = 0.17) was not found to be significantly affected. CONCLUSIONS Telecare is effective in improving self-management among community-dwelling people with diabetes, suggesting an effective means for them to achieve self-management.

Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by prolonged elevated blood glucose levels. Diabetes self-management education and support programs are widely used in western countries. The impact of social media education and support interventions such as a WhatsApp-based program and the nurses' role in supporting and implementing this self-management program unclear. Using a WhatsApp-based program, we evaluated the effects of a 6-week program in improving self-efficacy and education among people with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Saudi Arabia. Eligible participants (n = 80) were recruited with the support of nurses into a randomized controlled trial and randomly assigned into self-management intervention and control groups. The intervention group (n = 40) received the self-management program support and the usual care. The control group (n = 40) received only the usual care with nurses' support. Results from generalized estimating equation analysis showed a significant increase in self-efficacy, self-management, and education in the WhatsApp-based intervention support group compared with the control group at 6 and 12 weeks (follow-up). Implementing the program via social media improves self-efficacy. The use of social media platforms should be promoted for global diabetes management.

Abstract
PURPOSE Providing continuous self-care support to the growing diabetes population is challenging. Strategies are needed to enhance engagement in self-care, utilizing innovative technologies for personalized feedback. This study aimed to assess the feasibility of the Automated Personalized Self-Care program among type 2 diabetes patients and evaluate its preliminary effectiveness. METHODS A parallel randomized pilot trial with qualitative interviews occurred from May 3, 2022, to September 27, 2022. Participants aged 40-69 years with type 2 diabetes and HbA1c ≥ 7.0% were recruited. The three-month program involved automated personalized goal setting, education, monitoring, and feedback. Feasibility was measured by participants' engagement and intervention usability. Preliminary effectiveness was examined through self-care self-efficacy, self-care behaviors, and health outcomes. Qualitative interviews were conducted with the intervention group. RESULTS A total of 404 patients were screened. Out of the 61 eligible patients, 32 were enrolled, resulting in a recruitment rate of 52.5%. Retention rates at three months were 84.2% and 84.6% in the intervention and control groups, respectively. Among the intervention group, 81.3% satisfied adherence criteria. Mobile application's usability scored 66.25, and participants' satisfaction was 8.06. Intention-to-treat analysis showed improvements in self-measured blood glucose testing, grain intake, and HbA1c in the intervention group. Qualitative content analysis identified nine themes. CONCLUSION Feasibility of the program was verified. A larger randomized controlled trial is needed to determine its effectiveness in self-care self-efficacy, self-care behaviors, and health outcomes among type 2 diabetes patients. Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to examine the relationship between Self-Care, Self-Efficacy, and Health Deviation Self-Care Requisites in patients with type 2 diabetes based on Orem's Self-Care Theory. METHODS The research involved 341 patients with type 2 diabetes in Rasht, Iran, using a descriptive-analytical cross-sectional design. The data collection included questionnaires assessing Self-Care Behaviors, Self-Efficacy, and Health Deviation Self-Care Requisites based on Orem's model. RESULTS Demographic factors such as gender, marital status, employment, education, age, duration of disease, and oral treatment and insulin had no consistent effect on self-care behaviors. Self-efficacy was a key factor influencing Self-Care Behaviors in diabetic patients. There was a strong and direct correlation between Self-Care Behaviors and Self-Efficacy, indicating the role of individuals' confidence in managing diabetes. Health Deviation Self-Care Requisites had both positive and negative correlations with different domains of Self-Care Behaviors.The physical exercise construct of self-efficacy was the most significant predictor of Self-Care Behaviors. CONCLUSIONS This study provides valuable insights into the complex relationship between Self-Care, Self-Efficacy, and Health Deviation Self-Care Requisites in patients with type 2 diabetes. The findings underscore the importance of addressing Self-Efficacy and specific self-care domains, such as physical activity and foot care, in diabetes management strategies. This research contributes to the existing knowledge base and may inform healthcare professionals and policymakers in developing targeted interventions to improve self-care practices in diabetic patients.

Abstract
Introduction The increasing number of women with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy may result in long-lasting, adverse physical side effects and reduced quality of life. Objective This study aimed to develop and assess the feasibility and preliminary effects of the Phone-Based Support Program for women with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy. The primary outcome was self-care self-efficacy; secondary outcomes were symptom distress and quality of life. Methods This pilot study was conducted at a tertiary hospital in Jiangsu province, China, from February to March 2023. The Phone-Based Support Program was delivered to 20 participants through the smartphone application WeChat, consisting of learning, discussion, ask-the-expert, and personal stories components. Outcome measures were assessed at three time points: preintervention, postintervention, and follow-up. Results The Phone-Based Support Program was feasible and could improve self-care self-efficacy, decrease symptom distress, and promote quality of life. The program was well-accepted, and participants engaged actively in the online discussion and sought expert advice. Conclusions The Phone-Based Support Program showed feasibility and effectiveness in improving self-care self-efficacy, reducing symptom distress, and enhancing quality of life.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The promotion of mobile health (mHealth) and eHealth technologies as tools for managing chronic diseases, particularly diabetes mellitus, is on the rise. Nevertheless, individuals with diabetes frequently face a literacy gap that hinders their ability to fully leverage the benefits offered by these resources. Enhancing technology literacy to facilitate the adoption of mobile eHealth services poses a significant challenge in numerous countries. OBJECTIVE This study aims to develop an educational mobile eHealth literacy (eHL) program for patients with diabetes and to evaluate its effect on patients' outcomes. METHODS This study designed a mobile eHL education program comprising 2 modules specifically tailored for individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D). These modules focused on guiding participants through the process of effectively navigating reliable health websites and utilizing diabetes-related apps. Using a pre- and posttest experimental design, the study featured an intervention group and a control group. Participants were recruited from 3 outpatient departments in hospitals, and assessments were conducted both before and after the intervention, along with a follow-up measure at the 3-month mark. The evaluation encompassed sociodemographic characteristics, computer and internet proficiency, mobile app usage, mobile eHL, and patient outcomes such as self-care behaviors and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels. RESULTS The analysis included a total of 132 eligible participants. Significant differences were observed in the mean scores of knowledge (P<.001) and skills (P<.001) related to computers, the web, and mobile devices at the initiation of the study and after the intervention. During the 3-month follow-up, the findings indicated a significant improvement in mobile eHL (t114=3.391, P=.001) and mHealth literacy (mHL, a subconcept of mobile eHL; t114=3.801, P<.001) within the intervention group, whereas no such improvement was observed in the control group. The chi-square values from the McNemar test underscored that individuals with uncontrolled diabetes (HbA1c≥7%) in the intervention group exhibited more improvement compared with the control group. The generalized estimating equations model unveiled a significant difference in the change of general mHL in the intervention group (β=1.91, P=.047) and self-care behavior in the control group from T0 to T2 (β=-8.21, P=.015). Despite being small, the effect sizes for mobile eHL (d=0.49) and HbA1c (d=0.33) in the intervention group were greater than those in the control group (d=0.14 and d=0.16, respectively). CONCLUSIONS The implementation of a mobile eHL education intervention demonstrates a positive influence on the familiarity of patients with T2D regarding health technology, leading to favorable glycemic outcomes. While additional studies are warranted for a more comprehensive understanding, this program emerges as a promising solution for enhancing patients' uptake of digital health technology.

Abstract
AIMS To compare the efficacy of digitally assisted interventions on the glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) levels of patients with type 2 diabetes by performing a systematic review, network meta-analysis and component network meta-analysis. METHODS Six databases were searched to identify eligible articles from the inception of each database until 17 March 2023. We included randomized controlled trials evaluating HbA1c levels. Data were pooled with a random-effects model under a frequentist framework. The evidence certainty was assessed using Confidence in Network MetaAnalysis (CINeMA). The PROSPERO registration number was CRD42021283815. RESULTS In total, 75 trials involving 9764 participants were included. Results from standard network meta-analyses of 17 interventions revealed that compared with standard care, a mobile application (MA) combined with a professional education programme and peer support education (PSE; -1.98, 95% confidence interval = -2.90 to -1.06, CINeMA score: moderate to high) significantly reduced HbA1c levels. The component analysis found that PSE (-1.50, -2.36 to -0.64), SMS (-0.33, -0.56 to -0.11), MA (-0.30, -0.56 to -0.04) and telephone calls (-0.30, -0.53 to -0.06) most effectively reduced HbA1c levels among patients with type 2 diabetes. CONCLUSIONS SMS and MA are the optimal digitally assisted interventions for reducing HbA1c levels. Educators can integrate digitally assisted interventions complemented by educational programmes, particularly MA combined with professional education programme and PSE, into daily care to control HbA1c. The limitations of included trials include a lack of information on allocation concealment and blinding and the fact that long-term follow-up effects were not investigated.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Behavioral interventions targeted at managing Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) may have a positive effect on quality of life (QOL). Limited reviews have synthesized this effect in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). This review and meta-analysis synthesised available evidence on the effect of behavioral interventions to manage T2DM on the QOL of people with T2DM in LMICs. METHODS Electronic databases PUBMED/MEDLINE, SCOPUS, CINAHL, Embase, Web of Science and PsycINFO were searched from May to June 2022. Studies published between January 2000 and May 2022, conducted in LMICs using randomized controlled trial design, using a health behavior intervention for T2DM management, and reporting QOL outcomes were included. Difference in QOL change scores between the intervention and control group was calculated as the standardized mean difference (SMD) of QOL scores observed between the intervention and control groups. Random-effects model was used for meta-analysis. RESULTS Of 6122 studies identified initially, 45 studies met the inclusion criteria (n = 8336). Of them, 31 involved diabetes self-management education and 14 included dietary and/or physical activity intervention. There was moderate quality evidence from the meta-analysis of mean QOL (n = 25) that health behavior intervention improved the QOL of people with T2DM (SMD = 1.62, 95%CI = 0.65-2.60 I2 = 0.96, p = 0.001). However, no significant improvements were found for studies (n = 7) separately assessing the physical component summary (SMD = 0.76, 95%CI = -0.03-1.56 I2 = 0.94, p = 0.060) and mental component summary (SMD = 0.43, 95%CI = -0.30-1.16 I2 = 0.94, p = 0.249) scores. High heterogeneity and imprecise results across studies resulted in low to moderate quality of evidence. CONCLUSION The findings suggest that health behavior interventions to manage T2DM may substantially improve the QOL of individuals with T2DM over short term. However, due to low to moderate quality of evidence, further research is required to corroborate our findings. Results of this review may guide future research and have policy implications for T2DM management in LMICs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is among the hardest hit low-income and middle-income countries by diabetes. Innovative Care for Chronic Conditions (ICCC) framework has been adopted by the WHO for health system transformation towards better care for chronic conditions including diabetes. We conducted an umbrella review of systematic reviews on diabetes care components effectively implemented in the ASEAN health systems and map those effective care components into the ICCC framework. DESIGN An umbrella review of systematic reviews and/or meta-analyses following JBI (Joanna Briggs Institute) guidelines. DATA SOURCES Health System Evidence, Health Evidence, PubMed and Ovid MEDLINE. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA We included systematic reviews and/or meta-analyses which focused on management of type 2 diabetes, reported improvements in measured outcomes and had at least one ASEAN member state in the study setting. DATA EXTRACTION AND SYNTHESIS Two reviewers independently extracted the data and mapped the included studies into the ICCC framework. A narrative synthesis method was used to summarise the findings. The included studies were assessed for methodological quality based on the JBI critical appraisal checklist for systematic reviews and research syntheses. RESULTS 479 records were found of which 36 studies were included for the analysis. A multidisciplinary healthcare team including pharmacists and nurses has been reported to effectively support patients in self-management of their conditions. This can be supported by effective use of digital health interventions. Community health workers either peers or lay people with necessary software (knowledge and skills) and hardware (medical equipment and supplies) can provide complementary care to that of the healthcare staff. CONCLUSION To meet challenges of the increased burden of chronic conditions including diabetes, health policy-makers in the ASEAN member states can consider a paradigm shift in human resources for health towards the multidisciplinary, inclusive, collaborative and complementary team.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic and life-threatening disease. Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is vital for individuals with T2DM. However, little is known about the impact of psychological stability factors on HRQoL among individuals with T2DM in mainland China. METHODS This multicenter cross-sectional study was conducted in five tertiary grade-A hospitals in Chongqing, China, from January to December 2019. A total of 385 individuals with T2DM were included by the convenient sample method. Fear of Progression (FOP) Questionnaire-short Form, Hypoglycemia Fear Survey II, diabetes-management self-efficacy scale, and EuroQol-5 Dimensions were used for data collection. RESULTS The mean age of the 385 individuals was 57.65 (SD = 15.15) years, three-quarters of whom had a high school or above education level. The participants in our study had moderate HRQoL and were more likely to have poor scores in the pain/discomfort dimension. The FOP level was moderate on average, and 23.1% of individuals suffered from psychological dysfunction. The participants had higher levels of fear of hypoglycemia (FOH) and self-efficacy (SE). Multiple steppage-regression analysis predicted that higher levels of FOP and FOH, reduced SE, older age, longer duration since diagnosis, lower educational attainment, higher levels of HbA1c, and living with comorbid conditions were related to lower HRQoL. CONCLUSION This study showed that the HRQoL among Chinese T2DM patients may be impaired by increased FOP and FOH, decreased SE, and poor glycemic control. In addition, as the patient's age and duration since diagnosis increase, their HRQoL further declines. We recommend improving HRQoL by encouraging individuals to attain more health education and resilience skills to enhance SE and reduce negative emotions among individuals with T2DM.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Self-management of the progressive disease type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) becomes part of the daily life of patients starting from the time of diagnosis. However, despite the availability of technical innovations, the uptake of digital solutions remains low. One reason that has been reported is that digital solutions often focus purely on clinical factors that may not align with the patient's perspective. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to develop digital solutions that address the needs of patients with T2DM, designed from the user's perspective. The goal was to address the patients' expressed real-world needs by having the users themselves choose the scope and format of the solutions. METHODS Using participatory methods, we conducted 3 cocreation workshops in collaboration with the Danish Diabetes Association, with 20 persons with T2DM and 11 stakeholders across workshops: user experience designers, researchers, and diabetes experts including a diabetes nurse. The overall structure of the 3 workshops was aligned with the 4 phases of the double diamond: initially discovering and mapping out key experienced issues, followed by a workshop on thematic mapping and definition of key concepts, and succeeded by an exploration and development of 2 prototypes. Subsequently, high-fidelity interactive prototypes were refined as part of the delivery phase, in which 7 formative usability tests were conducted. RESULTS The workshops mapped experiential topics over time from prediagnosis to the current state, resulting in a detailed exploration and understanding of 6 themes related to and based on the experiences of patients with T2DM: diabetes care, diabetes knowledge, glucose monitoring, diet, physical activity, and social aspects of diabetes. Two prototypes were developed by the participants to address some of their expressed needs over time related to the 6 themes: an activity-based continuous glucose monitoring app and a web-based guide to diabetes. Both prototypes emphasize periods of structured self-measurements of blood glucose to support evolving needs for self-exploration through distinct phases of learning, active use, and supporting use. Periods of low or intermittent use may thus not reflect a failure of design in a traditional sense but rather be a sign of evolving needs over time. CONCLUSIONS Our results indicate that the needs of patients with T2DM differ between individuals and change over time. As a result, the suggested digitally supported empowering health prototypes can be personalized to support self-exploration, individual preference in long-term management, and changing needs over time. Despite individuals experiencing different journeys with diabetes, users perceive the self-measurement of blood glucose as a universally useful tool to empower everyday decision-making.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Older patients' needs are rarely examined beforehand, and thus, although technology-based tools can enhance self-management, acceptability rates are still low. This study aimed to examine and compare self-reported needs, priorities, and preferences of older patients with heart failure (HF), diabetes mellitus type II (DM2), and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) toward technology use to enhance self-management. Materials and Methods: A convenience sample of 473 participants over 60 s (60.5% females), diagnosed with HF (n= 156), DM2 (n = 164), or COPD (n = 153) was recruited. They were administered a questionnaire about the usefulness of technology in general and in specific areas of disease management. Results: Most participants (84.7%) admitted that technology is needed for better disease management. This was equally recognized across the three groups both for the overall and specific areas of disease management (in order of priority: "Information", "Communication with Physicians and Caregivers", and "Quality of Life and Wellbeing"). Sociodemographic differences were found. Cell phones and PCs were the devices of preference. The four common features prioritized by all three groups were related to 'information about disease management' (i.e., monitoring symptoms, reminders for medication intake, management and prevention of complications), whereas the fifth one was related to 'communication with physicians and caregivers (i.e., in case of abnormal or critical signs). The top disease-specific feature was also monitoring systems (of respiratory rate or blood sugar or blood pressure, and oxygen), whereas other disease-specific features followed (i.e., maintaining normal weight for HF patients, adjusting insulin dose for DM2 patients, and training on breathing exercises for COPD patients). Conclusions: Older individuals in these three groups seem receptive to technology in disease management. mHealth tools, incorporating both common and disease-specific features and addressing different chronic patients, and also being personalized at the same time, could be cost-saving and useful adjuncts in routine clinical care to improve self-management.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to evaluate the effect of a home-based self-management intervention in community-dwelling patients with early Parkinson's diseases (PD). DESIGN A randomized-controlled design. METHODS Thirty-two patients participated (15=intervention, 17=control), and the intervention group received 16 weeks of the intervention. FINDINGS Physical activity and non-motor symptoms improved more in the intervention group than in the control group. CONCLUSION Home-based self-management intervention was effective in improving physical activity and non-motor symptoms for them. CLINICAL EVIDENCE Home-based intervention - comprising education, telephone counseling, smartphone-based message and information, and smart wearable devices - was feasible for patients with early PD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Intervention based on family support and risk perception can enhance type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients' self-care activities. In addition, eHealth education is considered to improve family members' support for patients with T2DM. However, there is little evidence from rigorously designed studies on the effectiveness of an intervention combining these approaches. OBJECTIVE This randomized controlled trial (RCT) aimed to assess the effectiveness of an eHealth family-based health education intervention for patients with T2DM to improve their glucose control, risk perception, and self-care behaviors. METHODS This single-center, 2-parallel-group RCT was conducted between 2019 and 2020. Overall, 228 patients were recruited from Jiading District, Shanghai, and randomly divided into intervention and control groups. The intervention group received an eHealth family intervention based on community management via WeChat, whereas the control group received usual care. The primary outcome was the glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) level of the patients with T2DM, and the secondary outcomes were self-management behavior (general and specific diet, exercise, blood sugar testing, foot care, and smoking), risk perception (risk knowledge, personal control, worry, optimism bias, and personal risk), and family support (supportive and nonsupportive behaviors). A 2-tailed paired-sample t test was used to compare the participants at baseline and follow-up within the control and intervention groups. An analysis of covariance was used to measure the intervention effect. RESULTS In total, 225 patients with T2DM were followed up for 1 year. After intervention, they had significantly lower HbA1c values (β=-.69, 95% CI -0.99 to -0.39; P<.001). They also had improved general diet (β=.60, 95% CI 0.20 to 1.00; P=.003), special diet (β=.71, 95% CI 0.34 to 1.09; P<.001), blood sugar testing (β=.50, 95% CI 0.02 to 0.98; P=.04), foot care (β=1.82, 95% CI 1.23 to 2.42; P<.001), risk knowledge (β=.89, 95% CI 0.55 to 1.24; P<.001), personal control (β=.22, 95% CI 0.12 to 0.32; P<.001), worry (β=.24, 95% CI 0.10 to 0.39; P=.001), optimism bias (β=.26, 95% CI 0.09 to 0.43; P=.003), and supportive behaviors (β=5.52, 95% CI 4.03 to 7.01; P<.001). CONCLUSIONS The eHealth family-based intervention improved glucose control and self-care activities among patients with T2DM by aiding the implementation of interventions to improve T2DM risk perceptions among family members. The intervention is generalizable for patients with T2DM using health management systems in community health centers. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Parents of children with cancer face psychological challenges that can result in significant distress. It has been found that problem-solving (PS) could mitigate emotional distress (ED) in this population, but mechanisms of this relation are poorly understood. This study aimed to assess whether there is a link between PS and ED through perceived control and self-efficacy. METHODS We included 119 parents (67 mothers, 52 fathers, including 50 couples) whose child was diagnosed with cancer. We evaluated whether PS was associated with ED through perceived control and self-efficacy in couples of parents. RESULTS We found no direct association between PS and ED (β = -0.01, p = 0.92). Our results indicated a significant indirect effect between ED and PS with perceived control as the intermediary variable (β = -0.24, p < 0.001, 95% CI [-0.41, -0.11]). However, there was no indirect association between ED and PS with self-efficacy as the intermediary variable (β = -0.04, p = 0.26, 95% CI [-0.11, 0.09]). The effect size was large in magnitude (R2 = 0.59 for ED). CONCLUSION The mitigating role of PS on ED is better explained by an enhanced experience of control than by improved self-efficacy. Future interventions should directly target the action mechanism behind PS and ED in both mothers and fathers by targeting their perceived control.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients' self-efficacy levels are significantly associated with the process of recovery and creating social support in the inpatient recovery setting can help prevent post-stroke depression and anxiety. OBJECTIVE To explore the current status of factors influencing chronic disease self-efficacy in patients with ischemic stroke, to provide theoretical basis and clinical data for implementing corresponding nursing interventions. METHODS The study included 277 patients with ischemic stroke who were hospitalized in the neurology department of a tertiary hospital in Fuyang, Anhui Province, China from January to May 2021. Participants for the study were selected by convenience sampling method. A questionnaire for general information developed by the researcher and the Chronic Disease Self-Efficacy Scale were used for collecting data. RESULTS The patients' total self-efficacy score was (36.79 ± 10.89), which was in the middle to the upper level. Results of our multifactorial analysis showed that history of falls in the previous 12 months, presence of physical dysfunction, and cognitive impairment were all independent risk factors for chronic disease self-efficacy in patients with ischemic stroke (P< 0.05). CONCLUSION Chronic disease self-efficacy in patients with ischemic stroke was at an intermediate to high level. History of falls in the previous year, physical dysfunction, and cognitive impairment were factors influencing patients' chronic disease self-efficacy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Self-management involves taking responsibility for personal health and taking the initiative to do so. This can be accomplished by learning information and skills that will help consider the difficulties may encounter during and after cancer treatment. With this perspective, we have aimed to develop a self-management mobile app for women with breast cancer in Iran and evaluate its impact on the quality of life of patients. METHOD This study is a methodological study in 2021. We developed the app during three phases. The first phase aimed at identifying educational content and designing user experience, the second phase aimed at developing and implementing the app, and the third phase aimed at evaluating pre-and post-implementation. RESULT In this study, an Android app for self-management women with breast cancer was developed. According to the results of the pre-and post-implementations among the most significant changes were in the quality of life level, highest respectively: social avoidance (Pre: 6.41-Post: 3.56), negative feelings (Pre: 5.93 - Post: 3.40), sexual function (Pre: 6.80 - Post: 5.04), sexual interest (Pre: 6.41 - Post: 4.75) and pain (Pre: 6.37 - Post: 4.97). And least the changes respectively: distress-family (Pre: 7 - Post: 7), distress-recurrence (Pre: 4.49 - Post: 4.38), benefits (Pre: 2.47 - Post: 3.12), appearance (Pre: 4.10 - Post: 3.32). Also, we calculated the usability evaluation of this app with the system usability scale (SUS); the overall rating score was 83/100, an excellent level (> 80.3), and a grade A. CONCLUSION The study shows that a breast cancer self-management app can support and improve the quality of life of women with breast cancer. We conducted this study to show that by developing a self-management app, women with breast cancer can improve their quality of life, - by increasing their self-management skills.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Health literacy (HL) is the ability of a person to acquire the process, understand the necessary health information, and make the health services needed for conscious health decisions. Besides, diabetes is the most common metabolic disorder that affects patients' quantity and quality of life. This study focused on determining the factors that affect the HL status of patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) through the role of the demographic variables. MATERIALS AND METHODS This descriptive-analytical research survey recruited a sample based on 280 patients with T2D at the Diabetes Research Center of Ayatollah Taleghani Hospital in Kermanshah in 2020. This study selected patients with T2D using a simple random sampling technique. The study applied the demographic information questionnaire and the Functional, Communicative, and Critical HL Scale to collect data from patients with T2D. This study used the SPSS version 23 on the received data sets to perform statistical analysis, including t-test, analysis of the variance, and multiple regression, to predict the factors affecting HL among diabetes patients. RESULTS The study results showed that the mean age of the participating patients with T2D was 55.80 ± 13.04. The results indicated the mean score and standard deviation of total HL score in patients with T2D 2.70 ± 0.44. The findings specified a statistically significant relationship between HL, gender, education, occupation, income, and place of residence. Results indicated that β-coefficients of the multiple regression analysis and the income variable (β = 0.170), age (β = 0.176), and employment variable (β = 0.157). These are the most predictive of the HL of patients with T2D. CONCLUSION The results of this study specified that the HL rate of individuals with diabetes type 2 is average. The potential communicative and critical HL influence is essential for communication and education for diabetes patients in the primary health-care system settings. The findings indicate that communicative and critical HL related to patients' management and functional HL looks passable in this study.

Abstract
Background The elderly constitute a large fraction of patients with type 2 diabetes worldwide. It has been well documented that the elderly’s adherence to disease control is not adequate. The present study aimed to evaluate the impact of a mobile-based educational intervention on self-care behaviors and glycemic control among elderly with type 2 diabetes. Methods The present study was conducted on 118 older people (59 in the intervention group and 59 in the control group) with type 2 diabetes who referred to Golestan Hospital in Ahvaz, southwest of Iran in 2020. Participants were randomly divided into experimental and control groups. Data were collected at baseline and after a 3-month follow-up. At baseline, the participants completed a valid and reliable multi-section questionnaire including items on attitude, the multidimensional scale of perceived social support (MSPSS), the Coping Self-Efficacy Scale (CSES), self-care constructs, and HBA1C. After analyzing the pre-test data, we designed a training program which was offered to the intervention group online via mobile phone in three online sessions. The control group, however, received no intervention except diabetes routine care. Data were analyzed using SPSS-15 at a significance level of 0.05. Results Before the intervention, the mean scores of CSES, attitudes towards self-care, MSPSS, and self-care were not statistically significant between study groups (P > 0.05), but after intervention, the study found significant differences between the groups in terms of CSES, attitude, MSPSS, and self-care (P = 0.001). Furthermore, after implementation of the intervention, the mean value of HbA1C in the intervention group was significantly less than that of the control group (7.00 vs. 7.32%) (P = 0.001). Conclusion The present results indicated that implementing an educational intervention via mobile phone can improve self-care practice and reduce HbA1C in the elderly with type 2 diabetes. The study also showed a moderate to large effect on the outcome variables. However, further studies with longer follow-up periods are recommended to confirm the results. Abstract
PURPOSE Among older adults, health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and falls are associated. Generic patient-reported outcomes measures (PROMs) assess individual's HRQoL. The role for PROMs, a potential tool for predicting subsequent falls, remains under-explored. Our primary aim was to determine whether a baseline PROMs assessment of HRQoL may be a useful tool for predicting future falls. METHODS A secondary analysis of a 12-month randomized clinical trial (RCT) of a home-based exercise program among 344 adults (67% female), aged ≥ 70 years, with ≥ 1 falls in the prior year who were randomized (1:1) to either a home-based exercise program (n = 172) or usual care (n = 172). A negative binomial regression model with total falls count as the dependent variable evaluated the main effect of the independent variable-baseline HRQoL (measured by the Short-Form-6D)-controlling for total exposure time and experiment group (i.e., exercise or usual care) for the total sample. For the usual care group alone, the model controlled for total exposure time. RESULTS For the total sample, the rate of subsequent total falls was significantly predicted by baseline HRQoL (IRR = 0.044; 95% CI [0.005-0.037]; p = .004). For the usual care group, findings were confirmed with wider confidence intervals and the rate of prospective total falls was significantly predicted by baseline HRQoL (IRR = 0.025; 95% CI [0.001-0.909]; p = .044). CONCLUSION These findings suggest the ShortForm-6D should be considered as part of falls prevention screening strategies within a Falls Prevention Clinic setting. Abstract
BACKGROUND A 2017 umbrella review defined the technology-enabled self-management (TES) feedback loop associated with a significant reduction in A1C. The purpose of this 2021 review was to develop a taxonomy of intervention attributes in technology-enabled interventions; review recent, high-quality systematic reviews and meta-analyses to determine if the TES framework was described and if elements contribute to improved diabetes outcomes; and to identify gaps in the literature. METHODS We identified key technology attributes needed to describe the active ingredients of TES interventions. We searched multiple databases for English language reviews published between April 2017 and April 2020, focused on PwD (population) receiving diabetes care and education (intervention) using technology-enabled self-management (comparator) in a randomized controlled trial, that impact glycemic, behavioral/psychosocial, and other diabetes self-management outcomes. AMSTAR-2 guidelines were used to assess 50 studies for methodological quality including risk of bias. RESULTS The TES Taxonomy was developed to standardize the description of technology-enabled interventions; and ensure research uses the taxonomy for replication and evaluation. Of the 26 included reviews, most evaluated smartphones, mobile applications, texting, internet, and telehealth. Twenty-one meta-analyses with the TES feedback loop significantly lowered A1C. CONCLUSIONS Technology-enabled diabetes self-management interventions continue to be associated with improved clinical outcomes. The ongoing rapid adoption and engagement of technology makes it important to focus on uniform measures for behavioral/psychosocial outcomes to highlight healthy coping. Using the TES Taxonomy as a standard approach to describe technology-enabled interventions will support understanding of the impact technology has on diabetes outcomes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To verify the effects of self-care programs among adults with prediabetes, to identify the preferable structure components and to summarise the core content components of self-care programs. DESIGN A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials. METHODS PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Wanfang, CNKI, Chinese Biomedical Database and Open Grey were searched for studies published from January 2002 to December, 2021. Meta-analysis was conducted to verify the effects of self-care programs on diabetes incidence. Subgroup analyses based on structure components were performed to contrast the effects. We made a critical analysis to generalise the core elements of content components. The study was reported according to PRISMA statement. RESULTS Totally, 15 studies were included in systematic review, of which 14 studies were eligible for meta-analysis. The results of meta-analysis showed the incidence of diabetes for prediabetic adults receiving self-care programs was significantly lower than those who received usual care (OR 0.58; 95% CI 0.46 to 0.73). The results of subgroup analyses based on delivery mode, intervention implementer, health education brochures provided, and follow-up duration showed statistically significant reduction in incidence compared with control group (p < .05). However, the differences of these pair-wise comparisons (face-to-face or remote, individual or interdisciplinary team, with or without brochures provided, ≤1 year or >1 year) were not statistically significant (p > .05). Three core content elements were generalised: cognitive education, behaviour guidance and psychological support. CONCLUSIONS Self-care programs can effectively delay the progression of prediabetes to diabetes. Regardless of the diversified structure components, self-care programs can achieve better effects on the diabetes incidence than usual care, while the optimal structure components still remain unknown. Cognitive education, behaviour guidance and psychological support are core elements for these programs. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE More clinical trials with rigorous study design are needed to provide further evidence.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Individually designed interventions delivered through mobile health applications (mHealth apps) may be able to effectively support diabetes self-care. Our aim was to review and synthesize available evidence in the literature regarding perception of adults with type 1 diabetes on the features of mHealth apps that help promote diabetes self-care, as well as facilitators and barriers to their use. An additional aim was to review literature on changes in patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) in the same population while using mHealth apps for diabetes self-care. METHODS Quantitative and qualitative studies focusing on adults aged 18 years and over with type 1 diabetes in any context were included. A systematic literature search using selected databases was conducted. Data was synthesised using narrative synthesis. RESULTS We found that features of mHealth apps designed to help promote and maintain diabetes self-care could be categorized into self-care data monitoring, app display, feedback & reminders, data entry, data sharing, and additional features. Factors affecting the use of mHealth apps reported in the literature were personal factors, app design or usability factors, privacy and safety factors, or socioeconomic factors. Quality of life and diabetes distress were the most commonly reported PROMs in the included studies. CONCLUSION We are unable to reach a conclusive result due to the heterogeneity of the included studies as well as the limited number of studies reporting on these areas among adults with type 1 diabetes. We therefore recommend further large-scale studies looking into these areas that can ultimately improve mHealth app use in type 1 diabetes self-care. Abstract
BACKGROUND: The research is based on the concept of health literacy. This is the “sixth vital sign” to navigating the healthcare system and raising self-efficacy in the field of healthcare.
AIM: The study aim was to present the health literacy of the elderly in the Savinja statistical region in Slovenia.
METHODS: The study was based on a non-experimental quantitative research approach. The study included 199 elderly people aged 65 and more, without the presence of dementia. The data were collected using the Health Literacy and Montreal Cognitive Assessment questionnaire. We used a non-random, convenience sampling.
RESULTS: We established that in the study population, 64.8 % of the population was below the level of acceptable general health literacy, whereas only 3.5 % of this population had an excellent level of health literacy. Statistically significant differences in the level of health literacy are shown in the field of healthcare treatment in older adults living with their families (F = 5,198; p ˂ 0,001). Respondents who engaged in activities in day care centres also had a higher level of health literacy (t = 3,738; p < 0,001). People with low health literacy, who use health services more frequently, should be given access to health education, based on individual presentation of contents, supported by andragogical knowledge.
CONCLUSION: The health literacy of older adults is the basis for their greater care for their own health and a better quality of life.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The implementation of telemonitoring (TM) has been successful in terms of the overall feasibility and adoption in single disease care models. However, a lack of available research focused on nurse-led implementations of TM that targets patients with multiple and complex chronic conditions (CCC) hinders the scale and spread to these patient populations. In particular, little is known about the clinical perspective on the implementation of TM for patients with CCC in outpatient care. OBJECTIVE This study aims to better understand the perspective of the clinical team (both frontline clinicians and those in administrative positions) on the implementation and normalization of TM for complex patients in a nurse-led clinic model. METHODS A pragmatic, 6-month implementation study was conducted to embed multicondition TM, including heart failure, hypertension, and diabetes, into an integrated nurse-led model of care. Throughout the study, clinical team members were observed, and a chart review was conducted of the care provided during this time. At the end of the study, clinical team members participated in qualitative interviews and completed the adapted Normalization Measure Development questionnaires. The Normalization Process Theory guided the deductive data analysis. RESULTS Overall, 9 team members participated in the study as part of a larger feasibility study of the TM program, of which 26 patients were enrolled. Team members had a shared understanding of the purpose and value of TM as an intervention embedded within their practice to meet the diverse needs of their patients with CCC. TM aligned well with existing chronic care practices in several ways, yet it changed the process of care delivery (ie, interactional workability subconstruct). Effective TM normalization in nurse-led care requires rethinking of clinical workflows to incorporate TM, relationship development between the clinicians and their patients, communication with the interdisciplinary team, and frequent clinical care oversight. This was captured well through the subconstructs of skill set workability, relational integration, and contextual integration of the Normalization Process Theory. CONCLUSIONS Clinicians successfully adopted TM into their everyday practice such that some providers felt their role would be significantly and negatively affected without TM. This study demonstrated that smartphone-based TM systems complemented the routine and challenging clinical work caring for patients with CCC in an integrated nurse-led care model.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION With the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, health systems increasingly look to digital health solutions to provide support for self-management to people with type 2 diabetes (T2D). This review aimed to assess brief digital behavior change solutions (i.e., solutions that require limited engagement or contact) for T2D, including use of behavior change techniques (BCTs) and their impact on self-care and glycemic control. METHODS A review was conducted by searching Embase and gray literature using a predefined search strategy to identify randomized controlled trials (RCT) published between January 1, 2015, and March 21, 2021. BCTs were coded using an internationally established BCT taxonomy v1 (BCTTv1). RESULTS Out of 1426 articles identified, 10 RCTs were included in qualitative synthesis. Of these, six reported significant improvements in primary outcome(s), including improved patient engagement, glycemic control, self-efficacy, and physical activity. Interventions as short as 12 min were found to be effective, and users' ability to control their preferences was noted as conducive to engagement. Almost three quarters of BCTs targeted by interventions were under the hierarchical clusters of "Feedback and monitoring," "Goals and planning," and "Shaping knowledge." Interventions that targeted fewer BCTs were at least as effective as interventions that were more comprehensive in their goals. DISCUSSION Digital behavior change solutions can successfully improve T2D self-care support and outcomes in a variety of populations including patients with low incomes, limited educational attainment, or living in rural areas. Easy-to-use interventions tailored to patient needs may be as effective as lengthy, complex, and more generalized interventions. CONCLUSIONS Brief digital solutions can improve clinical and behavioral outcomes while reducing patient burden, fitting more easily in patients' lives and potentially improving usability. As T2D patients increasingly expect access to self-care assistance between face-to-face encounters, digital support tools will play a greater role in effective diabetes management programs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to assess the effects of digital storytelling on the self-management behavior of adolescents with type 1 diabetes (TID). METHODS In this pilot randomized controlled clinical trial, 60 adolescents with TID were randomly allocated into two parallel groups: intervention (training with digital storytelling method, n = 33) or control (training with a conventional method, n = 33). The primary outcome was assessing the Self-Management behavior of adolescents with TID (SMOD-A) at baseline and three months after the intervention. RESULTS The results revealed that digital storytelling could significantly improve self-management behaviors amongst adolescents with TID (P = 0.005). In contrast, in the control group, no significant changes were observed (P > 0.05). Furthermore, the mean score of Collaboration with Parents subscale was significantly higher in the digital storytelling group than in the control group after the intervention (p = 0.022). The results also showed that the level of Collaboration With Parents' subscale scores had a meaningful reverse relationship with the adolescent age after digital storytelling (p = 0.048). Repeated measures ANOVAs showed that there were significant main effects of time and group on collaboration with parents(p = 0.002) and goal subscales (p = 0.035). With respect to HbA1c levels, significant changes were not observed in any of the groups (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Digital storytelling is practicable and a potentially beneficial training modality for adolescents with TID. TRIAL REGISTRATION This trial was respectively registered. Abstract
AIM To evaluate the effectiveness of a nurse-led smartphone-based self-management programme (NSSMP) on improving self-efficacy, promoting diabetes self-care, increasing health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and decreasing HbA1c, acute complications and unplanned medical consultation for people with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes compared with a nurse-led diabetic service (NDS). DESIGN A two-arm randomized controlled trial with repeated measures was conducted. METHODS Participants were recruited from June 2018 to September 2020. Eligible participants were assigned to either the intervention or control group randomly. Participants assigned to intervention group received the 6-month NSSMP, while those in the control group received existing NDS provided by the study hospital. Outcomes were measured at baseline, and at 3 and 6 months from baseline. RESULTS A total of 114 participants were recruited. There were no significant interactions between group and time for all the outcomes except for blood glucose testing activities (F = 4.742, p = .015). Both groups had reduced HbA1c over 6 months. The intervention group had a lower HbA1c than the control group at follow-ups, but the differences were not statistically significant. None of the participants had acute diabetes complications at follow-up. Similarly, the differences in the number of unplanned medical consultation at 6-month follow-up between two groups were statistically insignificant. CONCLUSION The NSSMP is as effective as existing NDS provided by the study hospital in improving most of the outcomes. NSSMP can liberate valuable time for nurses to provide care to critically ill patients and supports healthcare resource constraints in the current COVID-19 pandemic. IMPACT The existing diabetes service is labour intensive as nurses are required to deliver education, follow-up telephone calls to trace blood sugar monitoring and provide therapeutic consultations and necessary referrals. The outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic has added further strain on the overworked professionals. NSSMP provides an alternative programme that is just as effective, to reduce nurses' workload by delegating them back to the individuals through self-management strategies. This enables nurses to increase contact time with patients, and individuals to take onus of their disease through increased self-efficacy, facilitated by technology. Abstract
Background Patients who are chronically ill need novel patient counseling methods to support their self-care at different stages of the disease. At present, knowledge of how effective digital counseling is at managing patients’ anxiety, depression, and adherence to treatment seems to be fragmented, and the development of digital counseling will require a more comprehensive view of this subset of interventions. Objective This study aims to identify and synthesize the best available evidence on the effectiveness of digital counseling environments at improving anxiety, depression, and adherence to treatment among patients who are chronically ill. Methods Systematic searches of the EBSCO (CINAHL), PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases were conducted in May 2019 and complemented in October 2020. The review considered studies that included adult patients aged ≥18 years with chronic diseases; interventions evaluating digital (mobile, web-based, and ubiquitous) counseling interventions; and anxiety, depression, and adherence to treatment, including clinical indicators related to adherence to treatment, as outcomes. Methodological quality was assessed using the standardized Joanna Briggs Institute critical appraisal tool for randomized controlled trials or quasi-experimental studies. As a meta-analysis could not be conducted because of considerable heterogeneity in the reported outcomes, narrative synthesis was used to synthesize the results. Results Of the 2056 records screened, 20 (0.97%) randomized controlled trials, 4 (0.19%) pilot randomized controlled trials, and 2 (0.09%) quasi-experimental studies were included. Among the 26 included studies, 10 (38%) digital, web-based interventions yielded significantly positive effects on anxiety, depression, adherence to treatment, and the clinical indicators related to adherence to treatment, and another 18 (69%) studies reported positive, albeit statistically nonsignificant, changes among patients who were chronically ill. The results indicate that an effective digital counseling environment comprises high-quality educational materials that are enriched with multimedia elements and activities that engage the participant in self-care. Because of the methodological heterogeneity of the included studies, it is impossible to determine which type of digital intervention is the most effective for managing anxiety, depression, and adherence to treatment. Conclusions This study provides compelling evidence that digital, web-based counseling environments for patients who are chronically ill are more effective than, or at least comparable to, standard counseling methods; this suggests that digital environments could complement standard counseling.

Abstract
Objective: Self-management is essential for individuals with diabetes. However, traditional self-management interventions may be hard to follow for other patients. Although games can stimulate extrinsic motivations, its application on self-management remains unclear. This review aims to evaluate the effects of game-based self-management interventions on health outcomes. Materials and Methods: We utilize PubMed, CINAHL, Cochrane Central, EMBASE, ProQuest Dissertation and Theses, PsycINFO, and Scopus from their inception until January 20, 2020. Meta-analyses are performed using Comprehensive Meta-analysis 3.0 software. The overall effect is measured using Hedges' g and determined using Z-statistics at significance level of P < 0.05. Heterogeneity is assessed using χ2 and I2 statistics. The risk of bias tool and the grades of recommendation, assessment, development, and evaluation system are used to assess individual and overall quality of evidence, respectively. Results: A total of 2150 records are identified, and 13 randomized controlled trials are selected. Meta-analyses revealed that game-based self-management interventions significantly improved patients' change in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) level (g = 0.18, P = 0.02), adherence to physical activities (g = 0.59, P < 0.001), balance (g = 0.94-1.14, P < 0.001), and fall efficacy (g = 1.01, P < 0.001). Significant results were only found for the three-trial meta-analysis for HbA1c changes, but not for the two other HbA1c meta-analyses that included more trials. Furthermore, negligible improvements were observed in glycated hemoglobin at postintervention and follow-up assessments, diabetes knowledge, and self-efficacy. Conclusion: Game-based self-management can consider a supplementary intervention. Overall evidence is ranging from very low to low. Future studies can consider a large sample size with high-quality design according to the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials statement criteria.
