Abstract
(1) Background: currently, the advantages of bulk-fill resin composite and high-viscosity glass ionomer materials have increased their use in dentistry; accordingly, their mechanical, surface, and optical properties have become more important. This study aimed to evaluate the mechanical, surface, and optical properties of three different restorative materials (a high-viscosity bulk-fill resin composite (TNC), a flowable bulk-fill resin composite (EBF), and a high-viscosity glass ionomer (FIX)) after application using different techniques (control, heat application, and ultrasonic activation). (2) Methods: specimens were prepared to assess the color stability and surface roughness (n = 12). The specimens were immersed in two different solutions for 14 days. For the compressive strength test, specimens were prepared using a Teflon mold (n = 12). (3) Results: among the specimens applied according to the manufacturer's instructions and immersed in distilled water, it was observed that the surface roughness values of FIX on the 7th day were statistically significantly higher than the other materials (p < 0.05). The compressive strength values of EBF applied using ultrasonic activation were significantly lower than those of EBF applied using the other techniques (p < 0.05). (4) Conclusions: coffee can negatively affect the color stability of restorative materials, but discoloration may vary depending on differences in the content of the material. All materials evaluated in this study exhibited clinically acceptable surface roughness values. It can be concluded that flowable bulk-fill resin composite is the most durable material in terms of compressive strength, so it can be used in the restoration of posterior teeth, especially those exposed to intensive stress.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To conduct a systematic review on the translucency of bulk-fill (BF) composite materials, evaluating the factors influencing it and its clinical implications. MATERIALS AND METHODS A systematic search was performed on four databases (Embase, Medline/PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science) for articles published until October 2, 2023. Search terms were: "translucency," "translucency parameter," "contrast," "contrast ratio," "bulk," "bulk-fill," "bulk fill," "composite," "resin," "resin based," "resin-based," "restoration," and "dental." In vitro studies, written in English language, investigating BF resin-based composites translucency were included. The risk of bias was performed with the RoBDEMAT tool. RESULTS Of 590 screened articles, 13 were included in this review. They investigated 11 high-viscosity BF and 5 low viscosity ones. The limited number of the identified studies and the heterogeneity of the extracted data did not allow to conduct a meta-analysis. CONCLUSIONS BF materials exhibit variability in translucency due to variations in experimental designs and the heterogeneous composition. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE BFs may behave differently in masking the substrate or in blending capacity.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM The impact of different coloring liquid shades and dipping times on the color, transparency, and flexural strength of monolithic zirconia ceramics is unclear. PURPOSE The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effects of different coloring liquid shades (A2, 3M2, and 5M2) and dipping times (no dipping, 30 seconds, 60 seconds, and 90 seconds) on the color difference (ΔE00), relative translucency parameter (ΔRTP00), and 3-point flexural strength (σ) of monolithic zirconia ceramics. MATERIAL AND METHODS Yttria-stabilized zirconia (3Y-TZP, 3 mol%) was cut into Ø16×1.2-mm plates (n=10) and 25×4×1.2-mm bars (n=15), which were colored using 3 shades of coloring liquid at 4 dipping times. Color coordinates were measured on a gray background by using a digital spectrophotometer with an integrating sphere attachment. The color and translucency differences were evaluated using 50:50% perceptibility (PT00 and TPT00) and acceptability (AT00 and TAT00) thresholds. The 3-point flexural strengths of the bar-shaped specimens were measured using a universal testing machine and analyzed using the Weibull distribution to calculate the Weibull modulus (m) and characteristic fracture strength (σ0). The data were analyzed with the 2-way ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis, and LSD post hoc tests (α=.05). RESULTS Both shade and dipping time significantly affected the color and translucency of monolithic zirconia (P<.001). The ΔE00 was above the PT00 for all groups, with only 3M2-90 and A2-60 being below the AT00. The main cause of color differences was the difference in lightness. Only A2 showed ΔRTP00 below the TPT00 (A2-30 (ΔRTP00=0.26), A2-60 (ΔRTP00=0.29), and A2-90 (ΔRTP00=0.46)). All experimental groups showed translucency differences below TAT00. In addition, only the dipping time had a significant effect on the flexural strength of zirconia (P<.001). CONCLUSIONS The optical properties of monolithic zirconia ceramics were affected by the shade and dipping time of the coloring liquid. The mismatch in lightness was the main reason for the color difference. The dipping time affects the flexural strength of monolithic zirconia, whereas the shade of the coloring liquid did not seem to influence flexural strength.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this in vitro study was to assess the color match of ultra-translucency multilayer zirconia restorations with different designs and backgrounds. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty ultra-translucency multilayer zirconia crown specimens were made in VITA classical shade B2 for a prepared maxillary central incisor. The specimens were divided into three groups based on the restoration design: veneered zirconia with a trestle design (VZT), veneered zirconia with a dentin core design (VZD), and full-contour zirconia (FCZ). In the groups VZT and VZD, the zirconia specimens were layered with a feldspathic veneering ceramic. The specimens were seated on five different backgrounds: shade B2 composite resin, shade B2 zirconia, copper-colored metal alloy, silver-colored metal alloy, and the prepared central incisor. CIELab values of the labial middle sections of the crown specimens were measured with a spectrophotometer. Color differences between the specimens and a shade B2 VITA classical tab (as a control) were calculated from the ΔE* ab formula and compared with an acceptability threshold (ΔE* ab = 3.7) to be clinically explicated. RESULTS Mean ΔE* ab values ranged between 1.17 and 8.48. The restoration design, the background type, and their interaction affected the ΔE* ab (p < 0.001). The mean ΔE* ab values for VZT with all backgrounds and for VZD with the silver-colored metal background were greater than the threshold (p < 0.001), whereas the mean ΔE* ab values for VZD with the other backgrounds and FCZ with all backgrounds were less than the threshold (p = 1). CONCLUSIONS Restoration design and background type affected the color match of ultra-translucency multilayer zirconia restorations. VZT restorations on all backgrounds and VZD restorations on a silver-colored metal background showed color mismatches. However, VZD restorations on the other backgrounds and FCZ restorations on all backgrounds demonstrated color matches.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM While waste zirconia can be recycled, whether the optical properties of recycled zirconia match those of commercially available zirconia is unclear. PURPOSE The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the optical properties of recycled zirconia by assessing its color, translucency, and opalescence across different thicknesses and shades. MATERIAL AND METHODS Sixty specimens were prepared from 3 mol% yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal blocks (Lava Plus; 3M ESPE) (group C); 60 other specimens were prepared from waste blocks of the same zirconia (group R). The specimens were further categorized into 4 subgroups (n=15) based on their thicknesses (1.0 mm or 1.5 mm) and shades (A1 or A3). Specimen color was measured with a spectrophotometer (Easyshade Advance 4.0; Vita ZahnFabrik). The parameters of color difference (ΔE00), translucency (TP), contrast ratio (CR), and opalescence (OP) were calculated. Grain size analysis was performed using scanning electron microscopy. Data were analyzed with analysis of variance (ANOVA) (α=.05). RESULTS Significant differences in translucency and opalescence were observed between groups C and R in all specimens (P<.001). Group R exhibited a range of TP (4.89 to 11.27), CR (0.74 to 0.91), and OP (3.36 to 8.65) values. The ΔE00 values between groups C and R ranged from 13.99 to 21.31. Both thickness and shade significantly affected the ΔE00 values (P<.001). The grain size in group C was not significantly different from that in group R (F=0.364, df=1, P=.555). The TP and OP values of group R decreased with increasing thickness (P<.001). CONCLUSIONS Recycled zirconia was less translucent and opalescent than commercially available zirconia. The color difference between commercially available and recycled zirconia exceeded the acceptable threshold, even when using the same staining procedure. Recycled zirconia exhibited reduced translucency and opalescence with increasing thickness.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) monochromatic restorative materials are gaining popularity because of their convenience and efficiency. However, studies that quantitatively analyzed color change associated with thickness and surface roughness are sparse. PURPOSE The purpose of this in vitro study was to quantitatively evaluate the color of 6 CAD-CAM monochromatic materials of different thickness and surface roughness using the CIELab color system. MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 150 12×12-mm square specimens of 6 different CAD-CAM monochromatic materials (VITA Enamic HT [VE], IPS e.max CAD HT [LS], LAVA Ultimate HT [LU], Telio CAD HT [TE], VITA Suprinity HT [VS], and Celtra Duo HT [CD]) in shade A2 and 5 different thicknesses (from 0.5 mm to 2.5 mm, with 0.5-mm increments) were fabricated (n=5). After 3 different surface treatments (polished, roughened by SiC P800-grit, and P300-grit), CIELab color parameters (L*, a* and b*) were measured using a spectrophotometer (VITA Easyshade V), and surface roughness was measured with a profilometer (VK-X200). Color variation was quantified by ΔE00 and 50:50% acceptability and perceptibly thresholds. Data analyses were performed using MANOVA, 2-way ANOVA, post hoc Tukey-Kramer test, and the 1-sample t test (α=.05). RESULTS The L*, a*, and b* of the monochromatic specimens were significantly influenced by material type, thickness, and surface roughness (P<.001). An overall increase in the L* (from 61.90 to 82.2), a* (from -4.22 to 1.16), and b* (from 5.48 to 43.22) of the specimens was observed with increased thickness. The roughened specimens exhibited lower L* and higher a* and b* than the polished ones (P<.001). The use of P300-grit for roughening resulted in greater ΔE00 compared with P800-grit (P<.001). As thickness decreased or surface roughness increased, the ΔE00 increased and exceeded the acceptability and perceptibly thresholds for color difference. CONCLUSIONS Material type, thickness, and surface roughness were major factors affecting the color of CAD-CAM monochromatic materials. Variations in thickness of 0.5 mm or more, as well as roughening treatments, may lead to clinically unacceptable color changes.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to demonstrate the vertical and volumetric wear characteristics of CAD/CAM materials. The microhardness and color stability were evaluated. A polymer infiltrated ceramic network CAD/CAM block, resin nanoceramic CAD/CAM blocks, a resin composite, and enamel tissue were investigated. Samples were loaded in a chewing simulator. Other samples were aged and immersed in coffee. Color change was evaluated using the digital image analysis and a spectrophotometer. The data were analyzed using Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Kruskal Wallis, Mann Whitney U, Friedman, Spearman's rho tests (p<0.05). The lowest level of wear was obtained in enamel tissue group 0.20 (Q1:0.14; Q3:0.27μm). Resin composite group 2.48 (Q1:2.12; Q3:2.92) showed lower level of discoloration. No agreement was obtained between the digital image analysis and spectrophotometer data (Spearman's rho -0.314, p=0.014). Similar wear rate to the natural enamel tissue was obtained for Vita Enamic. Digital image analysis was considered a promising technique for monitoring the color change.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Visual shade selection in dentistry may be influenced by factors that include the background color and the illuminant. PURPOSE The purpose of this clinical study was to evaluate the influence of using a gray background and a light-correcting device on visual shade selection. MATERIAL AND METHODS Two experienced clinicians assessed the incisor color of 30 volunteers using the VITA 3D-MASTER shade guide. Visual analyses were carried out using or not (control) a gray background, with and without (control) a light-correcting device (Smile Lite). Furthermore, the use of a polarizing filter was evaluated. Data from a clinical spectrophotometer were defined as the standard instrumental analysis. The agreement and the similarity (based on the whitening indexes of tabs) were evaluated between instrumental and visual analyses. Statistical testing was conducted through ordinal logistic regression and repeated-measures ANOVA. The Shapiro-Wilk test was used to confirm the data distribution, and homogeneity of variance was assessed with the Levene test (α=.05) RESULTS: The use of Smile Lite resulted in lighter tabs than indicated by the instrumental analysis, and the opposite was observed in its absence. The polarizing filter did not affect the results (P>.05). For similarity, the illuminant improved the results (P<.001). The gray background reduced the differences between visual and instrumental analysis only in the absence of the Smile Lite (P<.001). CONCLUSIONS The color similarity between visual and instrumental analysis improved with the use of a light-correcting device with or without a polarization filter. A gray background was useful only without the light-correcting device.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Mouth rinses have been reported to cause tooth surface discoloration. However, information regarding their effect on the stainability of monolithic glass-ceramics with different surface treatments is lacking. PURPOSE The purpose of this in vitro study was to assess the effect of mouth rinses on the color change of milled and pressed monolithic lithium disilicate glass-ceramics with different surface treatments. MATERIAL AND METHODS Fifty-six Ø12×1.5-mm disk specimens were fabricated using 2 different processing techniques: milling and pressing. Each group was subdivided into 2 subgroups according to surface treatments: glazed and polished. Specimens were then immersed in 2 different types of mouth rinse (n=7): chlorhexidine (CHX) and Listerine (LST). Color parameters were assessed using a digital spectrophotometer. Color difference (ΔE00) was calculated and compared with perceptibility (ΔE00=0.8) and acceptability (ΔE00=1.8) thresholds. The data were analyzed using ANOVA and Tukey post hoc tests (α=.05). RESULTS The color difference (ΔE00) was significantly affected by the type of processing technique, surface treatment, and mouth rinse (P<.001) and their interaction (P=.008). All ΔE00 values were below the selected clinical acceptability threshold (ΔE00=1.8). Milled groups (ΔE00=1.13) showed greater discoloration than pressed groups (ΔE00=0.86). Glazed specimens (ΔE00=0.70) were more resistant to discoloration than polished specimens (ΔE00=1.28) and immersion in CHX (ΔE00=1.09) led to more discoloration than immersion in LST (ΔE00=0.89). CONCLUSIONS The color of milled and pressed monolithic lithium disilicate glass-ceramics with different surface treatments was affected by using CHX and LST mouth rinses. Glazed lithium disilicate glass-ceramics showed less staining compared with those that were polished. Specimens immersed in CHX showed more discoloration than those immersed in LST.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) materials for prosthetic is gaining popularity in dentistry. However, limited information exists regarding the impact of thickness and roughening treatment on the optical properties of contemporary CAD-CAM restorative materials. This study aimed to quantitatively evaluate the translucency and opalescence of six dental CAD-CAM materials in response to different thicknesses and roughening treatments. METHODS Six dental CAD-CAM materials, lithium disilicate glass-ceramic (IPS e.max CAD, LS), polymer-infiltrated ceramic (VITA Enamic, VE), resin-nano ceramic glass-ceramic (LAVA Ultimate, LU), polymethyl methacrylate (Telio CAD, TE), and two zirconia reinforced lithium silicate (VITA Suprinity, VS, and Celtra Duo, CD), in shade A2 were prepared as 12 × 12mm2 specimens of four thicknesses (0.5mm, 1.0mm, 1.5mm, and 2.0mm) (N = 240, n = 10). After three different treatments (polished, roughened by SiC P800-grit, and SiC P300-grit), the translucency parameter (TP00) and opalescence parameter (OP) were measured with a spectrophotometer (VITA Easyshade V). The surface roughness was analyzed with a shape measurement laser microscope. The data were analyzed using a MANOVA, post hoc Tukey-Kramer test, the t test, and regression analysis (α = .05). RESULTS The TP00 and OP were significantly influenced by material type, thickness and roughening treatment (P < .05). TP00 showed a continues decline with increasing thicknesses, while the variations of OP were material-dependent. TP00 ranged from 37.80 (LS in 0.5mm) to 5.66 (VS in 2.0mm), and OP ranged from 5.66 (LU in 0.5mm) to 9.55 (VS in 0.5mm). The variations in TP00 of all materials between adjacent thicknesses ranged from 2.10 to 15.29, exceeding the acceptable translucency threshold except for LU. Quadratic and logarithmic regression curves exhibited the best fit for TP00 among the materials. Compared to polished specimens, rougher specimens exhibited lower TP00 and higher OP in all materials except for LS (P < 0.05). Roughening with P300-grit decreased TP00 and OP by an average of 2.59 and 0.43 for 0.5mm specimens, and 1.26 and 0.25 for 2.0mm specimens, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Variations in translucency caused by thickness and roughening treatment were perceptible and may be clinically unacceptable. Careful consideration should be given to the selection of CAD-CAM materials based on their distinct optical properties.

Abstract
Introduction Universal single-shade composite resins are characterized by a property that enables the creation of restorations that mimic tooth structure to the extent possible with fewer shades of color. Objectives This study aimed to instrumentally and visually evaluate the color correspondence of two single-shade composite resins in extracted human teeth multishade composite resins. Methods Upper central incisors and upper and/or lower molars with intact buccal surfaces were selected. The study consisted of a control group (n = 20): Z250 XT (3M ESPE) (G1) multishade composite resin in colors A1 to A4, and a test group (n = 20) divided further into two equal groups, consisting of single-shade composite resin Omnichroma (Tokuyama Dental) (G2) and single-shade composite resin Vittra APS Unique from (FGM) (G3). Instrumental evaluation was performed using a spectrophotometer, and visual evaluation was performed by three observers. Descriptive measurements related to the differences in color obtained through instrumental means were analyzed using mean and standard deviation, wherein the means were compared using ANOVA, applying the Bonferroni post hoc test. Results A statistically significant difference was observed among the groups (G1, G2, and G3) (ANOVA: p < 0.001). For the visual assessment, regardless of the assessment group, 77.49% of the teeth were within the acceptable color-match classification, with the single-shade resins showing better correspondence than the multishade resins. Conclusion Single-shade composite resins showed different color-matching results when compared to multishade resins, both in spectrophotometry and visual evaluations. Clinical Significance. Single-shade composite resins simplify the shade-selection process and are promising materials for use in dental practice.

Abstract
Clear thermoplastic materials have increased in popularity in the dental field due to their various applications, combination of excellent aesthetics, and good biomechanical behavior, but they may be influenced by different environmental conditions. The purpose of the present study was to assess the topographical and optical characteristics of thermoplastic dental appliances materials relative to water sorption. PET-G polyester thermoplastic materials were evaluated in this study. Related to water uptake and desiccation stages, surface roughness was analyzed, and three-dimensional AFM profiles were generated for nano-roughness measurements. Optical CIE L*a*b* coordinates were recorded and parameters like translucency (TP), contrast ratio for the opacity (CR), and opalescence (OP) were derived. Levels of color changes were achieved. Statistical analyses were performed. Water uptake significantly increases the specific weight of the materials, and after desiccation, the mass decreases. Roughness increased after water immersion as well. Regression coefficients indicated a positive correlation between TP and a* and between OP and b*. Studied PET-G materials have a different behavior to water exposure, but for all their specific weight, they increased significantly within the first 12 h. It is accompanied by an increase in the roughness values, even if they continue to be kept below the critical mean surface roughness. On nano-level, 3D images show an increase in inhomogeneity in the network structure of particles. Slight color changes were registered.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Pattern materials and their fabrication techniques have been reported to affect the marginal accuracy and internal fit of pressed lithium disilicate ceramic restorations. However, information regarding their effect on the color of such restorations is lacking. PURPOSE The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the color of a pressed lithium disilicate glass-ceramic fabricated from wax or resin patterns by using conventional and milling techniques. MATERIAL AND METHODS Fifty-six Ø14×1.5-mm disk pattern specimens were divided into 4 groups based on the pattern material and fabrication technique: conventional wax pattern group (CW), conventional resin pattern group (CR), milled wax pattern group (MW), and milled resin pattern group (MR). Lithium disilicate specimens were fabricated by using the lost wax technique. The CIELab values were measured with a spectrophotometer (VITA Easyshade Advance). The ΔE00 values were calculated and compared with perceptibility (ΔE00=0.8) and acceptability (ΔE00=1.8) thresholds to interpret the color differences. The 2-way ANOVA and Tukey post hoc tests were used to analyze data (α=.05). RESULTS Two-way ANOVA revealed that ΔE00 was significantly affected by the pattern material (P<.001), fabrication technique (P=.034), and their interaction (P<.001). The ΔE00 of the CW group (0.76 ±0.04) was clinically imperceptible. No significant difference in the ΔE00 values was found between the reference and the MW (1.48 ±0.13) and MR (1.51 ±0.15) groups (P=.926), which were both clinically perceptible and acceptable. The highest ΔE00 was that of the CR group (2.06 ±0.22). CONCLUSIONS The color of the pressed lithium disilicate ceramic was influenced by the wax and resin pattern materials fabricated by using conventional or computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) techniques. Only the CW pattern group showed color differences below the clinically perceptible threshold (ΔE00=0.8). The CR pattern group showed the highest color differences, which were not clinically acceptable.

Abstract
The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of in-office bleaching in esthetic dentistry on the roughness and color stability of the enamel surface, using different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide (HP). Fifty human incisors were randomly divided into 5 groups (n = 10). No bleaching was performed in the control group. For these groups, concentrations of 40% HP with fluoride (F), 35% HP with calcium (Ca), 25% HP with nano-hydroxyapatite (nHA) and 18% HP with nHA were used for bleaching in the test groups. Surface roughness was assessed at baseline after bleaching occurred. Color measurements were first obtained at baseline, then after the first and second sessions of bleaching, and, finally, after the staining protocol. Scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy were performed. Statistical analysis was conducted with a one-way ANOVA, followed by a post hoc Tukey's test and a paired-samples t-test (p < 0.05). All the bleaching gels used exhibited a similar color change (p > 0.05). Bleaching gels containing 18% HP with nHA and that containing 35% HP with Ca caused less surface roughness of the enamel. Of these concentrations, 25% HP with nHA caused the most surface roughness and no significant difference was observed, compared with 40% HP with F. The highest coloration after bleaching was observed in 40% HP with F and 25% HP with nHA. The lowest coloration was obtained in 35% HP with Ca and 18% HP with nHA but no significant difference was observed between them and the control group. A concentration above 18% HP does not increase the bleaching effectiveness. The results show that 18% HP with nHA and 35% HP with Ca resulted in the least increase in enamel surface roughness when compared to high-concentrate HP; however, it also prevented recoloration after bleaching.

Abstract
Poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) is a commonly used material for the fabrication of biomedical appliances. Although PMMA has several advantages, it is susceptible to microbial insults with practical use. Therefore, different bioactive nanomaterials, such as nanoceria (CeN), have been proposed to enhance the properties of PMMA. In this study, we investigated the effect of the incorporation of CeN into PMMA with and without the use of mesoporous silica nanoparticle (SBA-15) carriers. The unmodified PMMA specimens (control, CTRL) were compared to groups containing SBA-15, CeN, and the synthesized SBA-15 impregnated with CeN (SBA-15@CeN) at different loading percentages. The mechanical and physical properties of the different SBA-15@CeN groups and their effects on cell viability were investigated, and the optimal CeN concentration was identified accordingly. Our results revealed that flexural strength was significantly (P < 0.01) reduced in the SBA-15@CeN3× group (containing 3-fold the CeN wt. %). Although the surface microhardness increased with the increase in the wt. % of SBA-15@CeN, cell viability was significantly reduced (P < 0.001). The SBA-15@CeN1× group had the optimal concentration and displayed significant resistance to single-and multispecies microbial colonization. Finally, the enzymatic activity of CeN was significantly high in the SBA-15@CeN1× group. The proinflammatory markers (IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α, CD80, and CD86) showed a significant (P < 0.001) multifold reduction in lipopolysaccharide-induced RAW cells treated with a 5-day eluate of the SBA-15@CeN1× group. These results indicate that the addition of SBA-15@CeN at 1.5 wt % improves the biological response of PMMA without compromising its mechanical properties.

Abstract
(1) Background: Considering that the appearance of a dental material is an important factor that contributes to the success of prosthetic restorations. The purpose of this study is to investigate the optical properties and color changes among the layers of three commercial zirconias, to compare the aspect of the polished and glazed surfaces before and after aging and to evaluate the effects of hydrothermal degradation on their aesthetics. (2) Methods: Forty-eight plate-shaped samples were sectioned from presintered blocks of each multilayer translucent zirconia with different Yttrium content: Ceramill Zolid fx ML (5 mol%) = CeZ, STML (4 mol%) = STM, IPS e.maxZirCAD CEREC/in Lab MT Multi (4 mol% + 5 mol%) = IPZ. The samples were sintered according to the recommendation of each manufacturer, and half (24) of them were polished and the other half (24) glazed on one of the surfaces. Each type was equally divided into one control and one aging group, and, for each material, this resulted in four groups (n = 12): polished-control, polished-autoclaved glazed-control, and glazed-autoclaved. The artificial aging was carried out with an autoclave and distilled water at 134 °C, 0.2 MPa for 1 h, and for optical parameters (TP, CR, OP) and color change (ΔE*) measurements on a black and white background in a CIE L*a*b* color system, a spectrophotometer was used. The specimens were evaluated in incisal, cervical, and medium areas on polished and glazed samples before and after the aging stage. Statistical analysis was achieved with a two-way ANOVA test, the unpaired t-test, and the paired t-test. (3) Results: Before and after aging, the mean TP values for polished samples were higher than the glazed ones. After aging, the mean TP values increased for all groups (except polished CeZ), and significant differences were reported for polished STM, IPZ. After LTD, the opalescence registered an increase for almost all groups (except polished CeZ, polished and glazed IPZ-medium area), and significant differences were reported for almost all groups (except STM-incisal, IPZ-cervical, medium areas). The levels of color change were between extremely slight to perceivable. (4) Conclusions: Optical properties of the selected multilayer zirconia were influenced by polishing and glazing as surface treatment and affected by artificial aging (CeZ the least); perceivable color changes for polished STM, IPZ were detected.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This systematic review aims to evaluate the color stability of resin composite CAD/CAM blocks (CCB) when submitted to staining solutions. METHODS A systematic search was performed on different databases (Embase, Medline, Scopus, Web of Science). Search terms were: 'polymer infiltrated', 'polymer-based', 'resin nanoceramic', 'resin ceramic', 'hybrid composite', 'hybrid ceramic', 'composite ceramic', 'resin infiltrated', 'CAD-CAM', 'CAD/CAM', 'color stability', 'staining', 'staining susceptibility', 'color change', 'color difference'. INCLUSION CRITERIA in vitro articles published in the English language until 18 September 2022 without initial time restriction evaluating the color stability of CCB when submitted to staining solutions. EXCLUSION CRITERIA studies investigating color change induced by smoke or whitening treatments; studies not including a clinical evaluation of the results using the thresholds for color perceptibility and acceptability. Risk of bias assessment using the QUIN tool. FINDINGS Out of the 378 initially retrieved articles, 19 were included in this review. They investigated 17 different CCBs and different artificial staining by liquid protocols, including coffee, red wine, tea, and cola. CCBs exceeded clinical acceptability thresholds for color shift in 18 out of 19 studies, with a significantly higher color stability than conventional hybrid resin-based composites (RBCs), and a significantly lower color stability than ceramic materials. The identified differences in CCBs in color stability can be attributed to the material's composition, but also to the heterogeneity of staining procedures. Interpretation and clinical implication: Clinicians should be aware that, although to a lower degree when compared to RBCs used in direct or indirect procedures, CCBs undergo color changes to a higher degree in comparison to ceramic materials.

Abstract
Usually, dentin and enamel shades are layered in dental restorations with the purpose of mimicking the natural appearance of teeth. The main objective of this study was to develop and assess accuracy of a color-prediction method for both monolithic and layered dental resin-based composites with varying shades and under different illuminants. A total of 15 different shades of VITAPAN Excell, VITAPAN Dentine and VITA Physiodens as well as VITA Enamel of five different thicknesses (0.5-2.5 mm range) were used to manufacture monolithic and layered samples. A non-contact spectroradiometer with CIE 45∘/0∘ geometry was used to measure the color of all samples over a standard ceramic black background. Second-degree polynomial regression was used as predictive method for CIE-L*a*b* color coordinates. Performance of predictive models was tested using the CIEDE2000 total color difference formula (ΔE00), while accuracy was evaluated by comparative assessment of ΔE00 with corresponding 50:50% acceptability (AT00) and perceptibly (PT00) thresholds for dentistry. A mean color difference between measured (real) and predicted color of ΔE00=1.71, with 62.86% of the color differences below AT00 and 28.57% below PT00, was registered for monolithic samples. For bi-layered samples, the mean color difference was roughly ΔE00=0.50, with generally 100% and more than 85% of the estimations below AT00 and PT00, respectively. The predictive method allowed highly accurate color estimations for both monolithic and layered dental resin-based composites with varying thicknesses and under different illuminations. These results could be useful to maximize the clinical success of dental restorations.

Abstract
The effect of a novel nano-ceramic coating (TiO2) using an atomic layer deposition (ALD) technique on the surface of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) material was investigated. The patients' and clinicians' perception and acceptance of the PMMA color with TiO2 coating were also examined. In vitro color measurement was performed on thirty specimens (light, original, and dark pink) before and after TiO2 coating. Patients' and clinicians' perception and acceptance of color changes on PMMA were measured and compared. Descriptive and analytic statistics were analyzed (a = 0.05). TiO2 films were successfully deposited on the PMMA specimen by the ALD technique. Color changes after TiO2 coating were observed on all three PMMA shades, significantly higher than the established 50:50% perceptibility threshold, but below the established 50:50% acceptability threshold. The percentage of patients that perceived a color difference after TiO2 coating were 83.3%, 63.9%, and 77.8% for light, original, and dark pink, respectively. The percentages of clinicians that were satisfied with the color difference were 96.4%, 80%, and 69.2% for light, original, and dark pink, respectively. Color changes after TiO2 coating were observed, but below the acceptable threshold. The clinical survey demonstrated that a color difference was perceived but was clinically acceptable. In general, laypeople have lower perception and higher acceptance of changes in PMMA color than clinicians.

Abstract
A full comprehension of colorimetric relationships within and between teeth is key for aesthetic success of a dental restoration. In this sense, hyperspectral imaging can provide point-wise reliable measurements of the tooth surface, which can serve for this purpose. The aim of this study was to use a hyperspectral imaging system for the colorimetric characterization of 4 in-vivo maxillary anterior teeth and to cross-check the results with similar studies carried out with other measuring systems in order to validate the proposed capturing protocol. Hyperspectral reflectance images (Specim IQ), of the upper central (UCI) and lateral incisors (ULI), were captured on 30 participants. CIE-L*a*b* values were calculated for the incisal (I), middle (M) and cervical (C) third of each target tooth. ΔEab* and ΔE00 total color differences were computed between different tooth areas and adjacent teeth, and evaluated according to the perceptibility (PT) and acceptability (AT) thresholds for dentistry. Non-perceptible color differences were found between UCIs and ULIs. Mean color differences between UCI and ULI exceeded AT (ΔEab* = 7.39-7.42; ΔE00 = 5.71-5.74) in all cases. Large chromatic variations between I, M and C areas of the same tooth were registered (ΔEab* = 5.01-6.07 and ΔE00 = 4.07-5.03; ΔEab* = 5.80-8.16 and ΔE00 = 4.37-5.15; and ΔEab* = 5.42-5.92 and ΔE00 = 3.87-4.16 between C and M, C and I and M and I, respectively). The use of a hyperspectral camera has proven to be a reliable and effective method for color evaluation of in-vivo natural teeth.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate and compare the color stability and stainability of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) restorative materials in their glazed (G) and polished (P) state when exposed to cigarette smoke, as well as after brushing. Three CAD/CAM restorative materials were investigated: lithium disilicate CAD (LD), zirconia (Zr), and Telio PMMA CAD (PMMA), according to their surface finishing and assignment to cigarette smoking exposure or soaking in the saliva (control) group. The color change (∆E) was calculated before and after the intervention performed for all specimens, using the L*a*b values to quantitatively assess the shade differences. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way repeated measures ANOVA and Bonferroni multiple comparison analysis (α = 0.05). The surface finishing did not influence the materials’ stainability. Color change was noted after smoking, LD and Zr-G and Zr-P had a comparable color change (p > 0.05), while PMMA presented lower ∆E values (p < 0.05). After brushing, all specimens had a significant color change that was high for LD-G and LD-P, and Zr-G, compared with Zr-P and PMMA (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the exposure to cigarette smoke showed that LD, Zr, and PMMA are all susceptible to staining, but brushing decreases surface staining.
