Abstract
BACKGROUND Psychotic experiences, which include a range of symptoms such as delusions and hallucinations, is an indication of elevated risk for mental disorders and poor quality of life. These experiences are often underreported and undertreated in low- and middle-income countries, including Senegal. This study aimed to investigate the lifetime prevalence of psychotic experience, its associated factors and adverse outcomes among Senegalese women. METHODS This study analyzed the 2023 demographic and health survey data of 16,521 Senegalese women. Descriptive analysis, cross-tabulations, chi-square test, and binary logistic regression models were computed in STATA 18. The multivariable logistic regression analysis followed a backward stepwise approach. RESULTS Overall, 6,819 women (41.3% [95%CI: 38.4-44.2]) had a lifetime prevalence of psychotic experience. Referential delusions were the most prevalent (24.5%), followed by paranoid ideation (17.1%), auditory hallucinations (14.1%), bizarre delusions (13.3%), possession (12.4%), visual hallucinations (11.5%), and thought insertion/broadcasting (11.4%). The odds of psychotic experience increased consistently with age. Higher educational attainment (AOR = 0.73, 95%CI: 0.61-0.88) and being currently in union were associated with lower odds of psychotic experiences (AOR = 0.90, 95%CI: 0.81-0.99). A higher risk of psychotic experience was found among women who were exposed to media (AOR = 1.08, 95%CI: 1.00-1.17), those in the richest wealth index (AOR = 2.33, 95%CI: 2.06-2.63), and currently employed women (AOR = 1.21, 95%CI: 1.12-1.30). Dietary habits were relevant, as consuming fried and processed food (AOR = 1.25, 95%CI: 1.15-1.37) and soda and energy drinks (AOR = 1.14, 95%CI: 1.03-1.27) were both associated with increased odds of psychotic experiences. Women who reported a lifetime prevalence of psychotic experience were significantly more likely to attempt suicide (AOR = 10.89; 95%CI: 7.10-16.72), anxiety (AOR = 4.64; 95%CI: 3.89-5.52), and depression (AOR = 7.39; 95%CI: 5.14-10.62). CONCLUSION In conclusion, four out of ten women in Senegal had a lifetime prevalence of psychotic experience. These experiences increase the likelihood of anxiety, depression and suicidal attempts. We also conclude that psychotic experiences are associated with sociodemographic and lifestyle factors including age, educational level, employment status, media exposure and dietary habits. Interventions to reduce psychotic experiences should focus on education, media exposure, employment, and dietary habits.

Abstract
Psychotic symptoms are of increasing interest in mental health due to their predictive value for future psychotic disorders. While these symptoms are prevalent in the general population, their occurrence varies globally. This study aimed to explore the prevalence and factors associated with psychotic symptoms among individuals identified as substance-naïve and recent abstainers without a history of psychosis. A cross-sectional analysis was conducted on 11,686 participants who reported no lifetime substance use, no substance use in the previous three months, and did not have a diagnosis of psychosis. The study utilized the Psychosis Screening Questionnaire to estimate the one-year prevalence of psychotic symptoms and their associations with demographic and clinical attributes. Results revealed a 3.5 % overall prevalence of psychotic symptoms with 2.9 % prevalence among substance naïve and 4.3 % among recent abstainers. Factors associated with psychotic symptoms were age, being female, having chronic medical conditions, encountering traumatic life events being divorced or separated and lower education levels which positively correlated with symptom scores. There is a need for future investigations and longitudinal studies to uncover the underlying mechanisms and impacts of psychotic symptoms.

Abstract
Information on patterns of prescription of long-acting injection (LAI) antipsychotics among people who are incarcerated is lacking. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate prescribing rates for first-generation antipsychotic (FGA)-LAI versus second-generation antipsychotic (SGA)-LAI and to identify the factors associated with the prescription of one of the two classes of LAI. A cross-sectional study was conducted among incarcerated adult males hosted in Monza detention center between January 2013 and April 2023. Socio-demographic and clinical data were retrospectively collected. Descriptive and univariate statistics as well as logistic regression analyses were performed. Data were available for 135 consecutive incarcerated adult males with different mental disorders who received a LAI as part of their treatment. 75.6% of our sample was treated with FGA-LAIs, with haloperidol as the most commonly prescribed drug, followed by zuclopentixol and aripiprazole. Diagnosis of bipolar disorder and concomitant administration of antidepressants were statistically significant predictors of SGA-LAI prescription. Some patients' characteristics may influence prescription patterns in prison. Further longitudinal studies with larger samples should confirm these findings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Incidence of first-episode psychosis (FEP) varies substantially across geographic regions. Phenotypes of subclinical psychosis (SP), such as psychotic-like experiences (PLEs) and schizotypy, present several similarities with psychosis. We aimed to examine whether SP measures varied across different sites and whether this variation was comparable with FEP incidence within the same areas. We further examined contribution of environmental and genetic factors to SP. METHODS We used data from 1497 controls recruited in 16 different sites across 6 countries. Factor scores for several psychopathological dimensions of schizotypy and PLEs were obtained using multidimensional item response theory models. Variation of these scores was assessed using multi-level regression analysis to estimate individual and between-sites variance adjusting for age, sex, education, migrant, employment and relational status, childhood adversity, and cannabis use. In the final model we added local FEP incidence as a second-level variable. Association with genetic liability was examined separately. RESULTS Schizotypy showed a large between-sites variation with up to 15% of variance attributable to site-level characteristics. Adding local FEP incidence to the model considerably reduced the between-sites unexplained schizotypy variance. PLEs did not show as much variation. Overall, SP was associated with younger age, migrant, unmarried, unemployed and less educated individuals, cannabis use, and childhood adversity. Both phenotypes were associated with genetic liability to schizophrenia. CONCLUSIONS Schizotypy showed substantial between-sites variation, being more represented in areas where FEP incidence is higher. This supports the hypothesis that shared contextual factors shape the between-sites variation of psychosis across the spectrum.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Psychotic experiences and negative symptoms (PENS) are common in non-clinical populations. PENS are associated with adverse outcomes, particularly when they persist. Little is known about the trajectories of PENS dimensions in young people, nor about the precursory factors associated with these trajectories. METHODS We conducted growth mixture modelling of paranoia, hallucinations, and negative symptoms across ages 16, 17, and 22 in a community sample (N = 12 049-12 652). We then described the emergent trajectory classes through their associations with genome-wide polygenic scores (GPS) for psychiatric and educational phenotypes, and earlier childhood characteristics. RESULTS Three trajectory classes emerged for paranoia, two for hallucinations, and two for negative symptoms. Across PENS, GPS for clinical help-seeking, major depressive disorder, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder were associated with increased odds of being in the most elevated trajectory class (OR 1.07-1.23). Lower education GPS was associated with the most elevated trajectory class for hallucinations and negative symptoms (OR 0.77-0.91). Conversely for paranoia, higher education GPS was associated with the most elevated trajectory class (OR 1.25). Trajectory class associations were not significant for schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder, or anorexia GPS. Emotional/behaviour problems and life events in childhood were associated with increased odds of being in the most elevated trajectory class across PENS. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest latent heterogeneity in the development of paranoia, hallucinations, and negative symptoms in young people that is associated with specific polygenic scores and childhood characteristics.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND HYPOTHESIS Psychotic experiences (PEs) are associated with increased risk for mental disorders, in particular persistent PEs. PEs therefore might be useful within intervention research. We sought to systematically determine the incidence and persistence of PEs in the general population. STUDY DESIGN A double-blind search of databases (Embase, Pubmed PMC, Psychinfo, Medline, and Web of Science) from inception to January 2023 and data extraction, were conducted. Study quality was assessed using the NIH assessment tool. Random effects models were conducted to calculate pooled incidence rate per person-year and proportion of persistent PEs per year. Age and study design were all examined using subgroup analyses. Demographic, risk factors, and outcomes for incidence and persistence of PEs were reported in a narrative synthesis. STUDY RESULTS Using a double-blind screening method for abstract (k = 5763) and full text (k = 250) were screened. In total 91 samples from 71 studies were included, of which 39 were included in a meta-analysis (incidence: k = 17, n = 56 089; persistence: k = 22, n = 81 847). Incidence rate was 0.023 per person-year (95% CI [0.0129;0.0322]). That is, for every 100 people, 2 reported first onset PEs in a year. This was highest in adolescence at 5 per 100(13-17 years). The pooled persistence rate for PEs was 31.0% (95% CI [26.65,35.35]) This was highest in adolescence at 35.8%. Cannabis was particularly associated with incidence of PEs, and persistence of PEs were associated with multiple mental disorders. CONCLUSIONS Each year incidence of PEs is 2 of every 100 people, and persists each year in 31% of cases, this risk is highest in adolescents.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Psychotic experiences (PEs) frequently occur and are associated with a range of negative health outcomes. Prospective studies on PEs are scarce, and to date no study investigated PE prevalence, incidence, persistence, their risk indicators, and psychiatric comorbidity, in one dataset. Furthermore, most studies are based on self-report, and it is unclear how this compares to clinical interviews. METHODS Data are used from the Netherlands Mental Health Survey and Incidence Study-2 (NEMESIS-2), a psychiatric cohort study among a representative sample of adults (baseline characteristics: N = 6646; 49.6% female; 18-64 years). Results are presented for self-reported and clinically validated PEs. Associations are assessed for mental disorders, socio-demographic, vulnerability, physical health, and substance use factors. RESULTS Based on self-report, at baseline 16.5% of respondents had at least one PE in their lifetime, of those, 30.1% also reported a PE at 3-year follow-up. 4.8% had a first PE at 3-year follow up. The 3-year prevalence of PE was associated with almost all studied risk indicators. Generally, the strongest associations were found for mental health disorders. Prevalence and incidence rates were two to three times higher in self-report than in clinical interview but results on associated factors were similar. CONCLUSIONS Validated prevalence and incidence estimates of PE are substantially lower than self-reported figures but results on associated factors were similar. Therefore, future studies on associations of PEs can rely on relatively inexpensive self-reports of PEs. The associations between PE and mental disorders underline the importance of assessment of PE in general practice.

Abstract
Psychotic experiences (PE) are common in the general population, in particular in childhood, adolescence and young adulthood. PE have been shown to be associated with an increased risk for later psychotic disorders, mental disorders, and poorer functioning. Recent findings have highlighted the relevance of PE to many fields of healthcare, including treatment response in clinical services for anxiety & depression treatment, healthcare costs and service use. Despite PE relevance to many areas of mental health, and healthcare research, there remains a gap of information between PE researchers and experts in other fields. With this review, we aim to bridge this gap by providing a broad overview of the current state of PE research, and future directions. This narrative review aims to provide an broad overview of the literature on psychotic experiences, under the following headings: (1) Definition and Measurement of PE; (2) Risk Factors for PE; (3) PE and Health; (4) PE and Psychosocial Functioning; (5) Interventions for PE, (6) Future Directions.

Abstract
RATIONALE The COVID-19 pandemic is a worldwide threat to public health and the global economy. The climate of fear and uncertainty associated with the pandemic has fostered the emergence of a wide range of COVID-19 conspiracy theories that have the potential to shape public opinion and hinder the effective dissemination of valid information. Beliefs in conspiracy theories have been associated with maladaptive personality traits such as schizotypy and paranoia, as well as other non-psychotic psychological characteristics (e.g., social isolation, stress). METHODS An online survey was conducted to examine the associations between beliefs in COVID-19 conspiracy theories and psychotic-like experiences in a Portuguese community sample (N = 438), while also addressing the role of sociodemographic variables, psychological outcomes (e.g., stress, affective states), confinement-related factors (e.g., confinement conditions/behaviors), and pandemic-related factors (e.g., health concerns, financial issues). RESULTS Findings suggest that psychotic-like experiences are associated with beliefs in COVID-19 conspiracy theories, particularly perceptual abnormalities and persecutory ideation. Moreover, increased health-related concerns and reduced education levels also seem to be liability factors for these conspiracy beliefs. CONCLUSION These results add important insights into how the adherence to illogical and erroneous disease-related arguments can be related to psychotic-like experiences. COVID-19 conspiracy theories are yet another major challenge that governments and policymakers must contemplate when defining strategic directions to manage the current and future pandemics.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Relationships with other people are important determinants of the course of psychosis, yet social isolation is common. This study sought to learn about the patient experience of being around other people when hearing derogatory and threatening voices (DTVs). DESIGN A qualitative interview study. METHODS Fifteen participants with experience of hearing DTVs in the context of non-affective psychosis were recruited from NHS services. Data were obtained by semi-structured interviews and analysed using thematic analysis. RESULTS Three themes were identified: (1) reasons why interacting with people is difficult when hearing DTVs; (2) the relationship between social connection and DTVs; and (3) factors which enable voice hearers to connect with others. A further ten sub-themes are outlined as reasons why hearing DTVs led to lower social connection, including difficulties during conversations (e.g., the concentration required is hard), negative expectations of interactions (e.g., fearing negative judgement from others), and difficulties sharing experiences of voices (e.g., people will be hurt or upset if I tell them about the voices). Isolation was a common response to hearing DTVs but also a time of vulnerability for hearing voices. Managing the challenges of interacting with people led to some improvements in DTVs. CONCLUSIONS There are understandable reasons why hearing DTVs leads to lower social connection. Yet isolating oneself can also be a time of vulnerability for DTVs. Social connection might be one vehicle for disengaging from and disputing derogatory and threatening voice content. The effect on voice hearing of social recovery interventions warrants further investigation. PRACTITIONER POINTS Participants shared 10 reasons why being around people is challenging when hearing derogatory and threatening voices. These typically affected both daily social experiences and contact with clinicians. Common initial responses to hearing DTVs were to reduce contact with people, experience difficulties connecting during conversations and to avoid sharing the experience of voice hearing. However, social isolation was a time of vulnerability to DTVs, and hence, increasing social connection might be a target for interventions. A range of factors enabled voice hearers to manage social situations, for example: the fostering of trust, self-acceptance, learning when it is better to stay at home, and developing a narrative to explain voice hearing to others. Addressing the barriers to connecting with others might have an important role in personal recovery from voice hearing.

Abstract
PURPOSE Whilst it is generally accepted that supportive relationships facilitate recovery from psychosis, much less is known about the role of romantic relationships in people with psychosis. This review aimed to synthesise quantitative literature regarding the impact of romantic relationships on the mental health and general wellbeing of people who experience psychosis. METHOD A systematic review of electronic databases (PsychINFO, PubMed, Web of Science) was carried out using search terms relating to psychosis and romantic relationships. Papers were selected for inclusion by independent reviewers. Quality assessment was completed and a narrative synthesis produced. RESULTS Fifty-eight studies reporting the association between romantic relationships and psychotic symptoms, depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, suicidality, quality of life, satisfaction with life and self-esteem were included. Results were mixed but indicated having a romantic partner may be associated with reduced positive and negative symptoms of psychosis, but increased depressive symptoms. Tentative explanations for these findings, such as functioning prior to onset of psychosis, social support and relationship quality are explored. CONCLUSION Findings highlight the importance of this often-overlooked area in clinical practice. Studies with robust design, which specifically aim to understand the relationship between romantic relationships and wellbeing for people who experience psychosis are needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Persistent psychotic experiences (PEs) may increase risk for mental disorders, non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI), and suicide attempts, relative to PEs that are more transient and remitting in nature. Most investigations of PE persistence have incorporated only two waves of data, and have not investigated the persistence of different PE subtypes and their association with future NSSI and suicide attempts. This study aimed to investigate the association between PE persistence, NSSI, and suicide attempts using three waves of prospective data. A secondary aim was to investigate potential reverse pathways where self-injurious behaviour (and its persistence) instead precedes subsequent PE occurrence. METHOD Participants were 1100 adolescents (12-17 years) from an Australian prospective cohort study; with three time points over two years. The Self-Harm Behaviour Questionnaire was used to assess NSSI and suicide attempts. Four PE subtypes (auditory hallucinatory experiences [HEs], and three delusional experiences) were assessed using the Diagnostic Interview Schedule for Children. Logistic regression analyses were conducted where PEs was grouped into five categories according to their persistence across the three waves of data. Analyses were adjusted for sociodemographics and substance use. RESULTS Overall, persistence of PEs (with endorsement of PE across two or three waves) was associated with the highest risk of incident NSSI and suicide attempts at 1- and 2-year follow-up (OR range: 2.57-12.25), whereas remitted PEs (with endorsement of PE at baseline only) were not associated with increased risk of future NSSI or suicide attempts. This pattern of association was evident for auditory HEs but not for most other PE subtypes; although some estimates had wide confidence intervals. There was no support for reverse temporality. CONCLUSION Our findings support and extend the two-wave cohort literature demonstrating that PEs which persist over time are more robust predictors of future NSSI and suicidal behaviour. Auditory HEs that are persisting in nature are an important but under-recognised risk factor for NSSI and suicide attempts during adolescence, and current findings should inform clinical guidelines into the predictors of self-harm and suicide risk at this life stage.

Abstract
Aim: To evaluate the marital profile, family size, fertility rates, and perception about various aspects of marriage among the couples, with one of the partner having schizophrenia and compare the same with a group of couples, with one of the partner having recurrent depressive disorder (RDD). Methodology: A total of 76 married patients with schizophrenia and 58 married patients with RDD were evaluated by using a semistructured interview, which covered information about the duration of marriage, number of children, different aspects of marital and sexual life like perception about marriage, mental illness, sexual compatibility, and other variables. Results: A significantly higher proportion of patients with schizophrenia had onset of illness prior to marriage, when compared to the patients with RDD. There was no significant difference between the 2 groups in terms of mean number of children, number of spontaneous abortions, and medical termination of pregnancies. The mean numbers of postnatal deaths were significantly higher in the group in which one of the partners was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Compared to spouses of patients with RDD, higher proportion of the spouses of patients with schizophrenia reported sexual incompatibility since the beginning of the marriage and lack of full satisfaction with sexual life. Compared to patients with RDD, higher proportion of patients with schizophrenia were worried about their children developing mental illness and believed that people with mental illness should not marry. Conclusion: To conclude, this study demonstrates that compared to the spouses of patients with RDD, spouses of patients with schizophrenia have higher negative perception about the marriage.

Abstract
Older adults diagnosed with schizophrenia (OADWS) have unique needs for care and live longer today than their forebears who were diagnosed with schizophrenia. As a result, nurses need to be prepared for the specific care of individuals who live with schizophrenia as they age. Together, Life Course Theory and holistic nursing suggest a good fit in the quest for successful solutions and/or outcomes for the unique problems that OADWS face. Holistic nursing views the patient as a whole person, considering all aspects of the patient’s experiences within life’s broader environment. The life course paradigm offers an effective way for nurses to understand issues that patients face throughout their lives, thus enhancing holistic nursing with a historical perspective. This is especially important for the care of OADWS, who face unique disparities as well as physical and psychological comorbidities over their life course. This article is intended to initiate a discussion of OADWS, focused with Life Course Theory as a holistic lens. Literature pertinent to the life course of OADWS is reviewed, followed by an analysis of the life course paradigm in relation to OADWS’ unique experiences. Conclusions support the holistic use of Life Course Theory in research and interventions for OADWS.

Abstract
Psychotic symptoms (PS) are experienced by a substantial proportion of the general population. When not reaching a threshold of clinical relevance, these symptoms are defined as psychotic experiences (PEs) and may exist on a continuum with psychotic disorders. Unfavorable socio-environmental conditions, such as ethnic minority position (EMP) and migrant status (MS), may increase the risk of developing PS and PEs. We conducted an electronic systematic review and a meta-analysis assessing the role of EMP and MS for the development and persistence of PS in the general population. Sub-group analyses were performed investigating the influence of ethnic groups, host countries, age, types of PS, and scales. Twenty-four studies met our inclusion criteria. EMP was a relevant risk factor for reporting PS [odds ratio (OR) 1.44, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.22-1.70) and PEs (OR 1.36, 95% CI 1.16-1.60). The greatest risk was observed in people from the Maghreb and the Middle East ethnic groups in Europe (OR 3.30, 95% CI 2.09-5.21), in Hispanic in the USA (OR 1.98, 95% CI 1.43-2.73), and in the Black populations (OR 1.85, 95% CI 1.39-2.47). We found a significant association between MS and delusional symptoms (OR 1.47, 95% CI 1.33-1.62). We found no association between EMP and persistence of PEs.EMP was associated with increased risk of reporting PS and PEs, and the risk was higher in ethnic groups facing deprivation and discrimination. We found an association between MS and delusional symptoms. These results raise questions about the precise role of socio-environmental factors along the psychosis continuum.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Despite growing literature on psychotic experiences, no nationally representative study has reported on the prevalence of both hallucinatory experiences and delusional experiences in Australian adolescents. Also, while many studies have examined the association between psychotic experiences and certain demographic and clinical correlates, there are more variables of interest to be investigated, including disordered eating behaviour and hours of sleep. The aims of this study were to examine (1) the prevalence of hallucinatory experiences and delusional experiences in Australian adolescents, and (2) the associations between different types of psychotic experiences with a broad range of demographic, clinical, and psychosocial variables. METHODS A random sample of Australian adolescents aged 14- to 17-year-olds were recruited in 2013-2014 as part of the Young Minds Matter Survey. Participants completed self-report questions regarding five different psychotic experience types (auditory and visual hallucinatory experiences, and thoughts read, special messages, spied upon) experienced in the past 12 months. Using logistic regression analyses, we investigated associations between psychotic experiences and demographic, clinical, and psychosocial factors. RESULTS The 12-month prevalence ranged from 3.3% (95% confidence interval = [2.6, 4.3]) for special messages to 14.0% (95% confidence interval = [12.3, 15.8]) for auditory hallucinatory experiences. At the bivariate level, each psychotic experience subtype was associated with increased likelihood of major depression, being bullied, psychological distress, low self-esteem, mental health service use and insufficient sleep (<8 hours per night). Multivariate analyses revealed both auditory and visual hallucinatory experiences were associated with an increased likelihood of four of these variables (depression, being bullied, service use, insufficient sleep), whereas associations with delusional experiences were inconsistent. CONCLUSION Hallucinatory and delusional experiences are common in Australian adolescents. Hallucinatory experiences, rather than delusional experiences, may be more clinically relevant in this demographic. When psychotic experiences are endorsed by adolescents, further assessment is indicated so as to ascertain more detail on the phenomenology of the experiences to better understand their clinical relevance.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Individuals with psychotic symptoms may actually correspond to various subgroups, characterized by different patterns of psychotic symptoms as well as specific sociodemographic and clinical correlates. We aimed to identify groups of individuals from the general population with specific patterns of psychotic symptoms. METHODS In a 38,694-subject survey, a latent class analysis was performed to identify subgroups based on the distribution of seven psychotic symptoms taken from the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview. The different classes were subsequently compared according to sociodemographic and clinical correlates. RESULTS The best fit was obtained with a four-class solution, including the following: (1) a class with a low prevalence of all psychotic symptoms ('LOW', 85.9%); (2) a class with a high prevalence of all psychotic symptoms ('HAL + DEL', 1.7%); and classes with a high prevalence of (3) hallucinations ('HAL', 4.5%) or (4) delusions ('DEL', 7.9%). The HAL + DEL class displayed higher rates of history of trauma, social deprivation and migrant status, while the HAL and DEL classes displayed intermediate rates between HAL + DEL and LOW. HAL + DEL displayed the highest rates of psychotic and non-psychotic disorders and the use of mental health treatment, while HAL and DEL displayed intermediate rates of these disorders between HAL + DEL and LOW. In comparison to the HAL class, psychotic and substance use disorders were more frequent in the DEL class, while anxiety and mood disorders were less frequent. CONCLUSION These findings support the hypothesis of a continuum model relating the level of psychotic symptoms to the level of global psychopathology.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSDs), are diagnosed more frequently among African-Americans (AAs) than Caucasians. It has been suggested that cultural differences in symptom presentation and endorsement (including reporting spiritual/religious experiences) may influence this disparity. The current study investigated the relationship between endorsement of spiritual auditory and visual hallucinations and subsequent diagnosis of SSD among AA patients. DESIGN Participants (N = 471 AAs) completed the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview-Plus (MINI-Plus) Screening Interview as part of their intake to a HIV outpatient clinic. Endorsement of auditory or visual (A/V) hallucinations was explored with the MINI-Plus Psychotic Disorder Module and questions regarding the content of the unusual experience. RESULTS Logistic regression indicated that endorsement of A/V hallucinations significantly predicted a SSD (OR = 41.6, 95% CI 13.7-126.0, p < .001). However, when hallucinations were spiritual in nature, odds of an SSD fell dramatically (OR = 0.22, 95% CI 0.07-0.64, p < .001). CONCLUSIONS The current study indicates that not all visual and auditory hallucinations are symptomatic of a psychotic disorder in AA patients. Many of these experiences may be related to spirituality. Clinicians assessing AA patients need to query content of, meaning attributed to, and distress associated with A/V unusual experiences.
