Abstract
Children presenting comorbid attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and depression symptoms have higher risks of later suicidal ideation and attempt. However, it is unclear to what extent this risk stems from individual differences in the genetic predisposition for ADHD and/or depression. We investigated the unique and combined contribution of genetic predisposition to ADHD and depression to suicidal ideation and attempt by early adulthood. Data were from two longitudinal population-based birth cohorts, the Quebec Longitudinal Study of Child Development and the Quebec Newborn Twin Study (total N = 1207). Genetic predisposition for ADHD and depression were measured using polygenic scores. Suicidal ideation and attempt by age 20 years were self-reported via questionnaires. Across the two cohorts, suicidal ideation and attempt were reported by 99 (8.2%) and 75 (6.1%) individuals, respectively. A higher polygenic score for depression was associated with significantly higher risk of suicidal ideation and attempt, while no significant associations were found for ADHD polygenic score. However, we found an interaction between polygenic scores for depression and ADHD in the association with suicide attempt (P = 0.012), but not suicidal ideation (P = 0.897). The association between polygenic score for depression and suicide attempt was significantly stronger for individuals with a higher polygenic score for ADHD. Individuals scoring ≥ 1-SD above the mean for both polygenic scores were at increased risk for suicide attempt compared to individuals with lower scores (OR 4.03, CI 1.64-9.90), as well as compared to individuals scoring ≥ 1-SD above the mean in only depression (OR 2.92, CI 1.01-8.50) or only ADHD (OR 4.88, CI 1.56-15.26) polygenic scores. Our findings suggest that genetic predisposition for ADHD and depression contributes to increase the risk of suicide attempt in a multiplicative, rather that additive, way. Our results contribute to our understanding of the etiology of suicide risk and may inform screening and risk stratification.

Abstract
There is a need for research on autism questionnaire psychometrics outside of the standardization sample. This study investigated the factor structure of the Autism Spectrum Rating Scales-Parent report for ages 6-18 (ASRSp6) in a well-characterized community sample of 696 children (autism [AUT] n = 231; non-autism [NOT] n = 465; X̄age = 10.03) prospectively evaluated with the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2, a gold-standard autism diagnostic measure. The original author-identified structure demonstrated poor model fit. Exploratory Factor Analysis with a randomly selected half of the sample (n = 346) suggested retaining 17-items on three factors (Rigid/Sensory, Social, and Executive Function [EF]), explaining 55% of the variance. Confirmatory Factor Analysis with the remaining participants (n = 350) indicated good model fit. Partial measurement invariance was observed for diagnostic (AUT/NOT) and gender (male/female) groups. Correlations with the DSM-5p6 (an ASRSp6 scale) were high. Mean differences were observed between AUT/NOT groups for Social; when controlling for age, marginal differences (p = 0.02 - 0.03) were observed for all factors but EF. Social also demonstrated significant AUC regardless of control variables. However, AUC values for Social and other factors, while significant, were in the poor range; correlations with ADOS-2 scores were weak or non-significant. Despite improving the factor structure, the Total-17 does not appear to measure ASD-specific traits. However, these findings provide a basis for further research on ASD questionnaires.

Abstract
This study determined the combined utility of pre-injury risk factors and Concussion Clinical Profile Screen (CP Screen) items to identify clinician-adjudicated concussion profiles in adolescents. This was a retrospective study of 236 adolescents aged 12-18 who presented to a concussion specialty clinic between 2019 and 2020 within 30 days of injury. Participants completed the CP Screen at their initial evaluation, and clinicians provided blindly adjudicated clinical profiles for each participant. Stepwise logistic regressions and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were conducted. Participants (n = 236; 60.2% male) had a mean age of 14.79 ± 1.62 years, and most injuries were sport-related (n = 185, 78.4%). Combined pre-injury risk factor and CP Screen item predictors of anxiety/mood (AUC = 0.903) demonstrated outstanding utility; vestibular (AUC = 0.802) demonstrated excellent utility; and ocular (AUC = 0.766), PTM (AUC = 0.729), and cognitive (AUC = 0.723) demonstrated acceptable utility. Select pre-injury risk factors and CP Screen items provided acceptable to outstanding predictive utility for all clinical profiles in adolescents following concussion, highlighting their clinical utility for identifying concussion clinical profiles and subsequent targeted interventions. However, certain pre-injury risk factors and CP Screen items represented multiple profiles, highlighting the potential overlap and the need for clinicians to consider a multidomain evaluation to inform the best treatment approach.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating ADHD medications often use strict eligibility criteria, potentially limiting generalisability to patients in real-world clinical settings. We aimed to identify the proportion of individuals with ADHD who would be ineligible for medication RCTs and evaluate differences in treatment patterns and clinical and functional outcomes between RCT-eligible and RCT-ineligible individuals. METHODS We used multiple Swedish national registries to identify individuals with ADHD, aged at least 4 years at the age of diagnosis, initiating pharmacological treatment between Jan 1, 2007, and Dec 31, 2019, with follow-up up to Dec 31, 2020. Hypothetical RCT ineligibility was established using exclusion criteria from the international MED-ADHD dataset, including 164 RCTs of ADHD medications. Cox models evaluated differences in medication switching and discontinuation within 1 year between eligible and ineligible individuals. Quasi-Poisson models compared eligible and ineligible individuals on rates of psychiatric hospitalisations, injuries or accidents, and substance use disorder within 1 year of initiating ADHD medications. People with lived experience of ADHD were not involved in the research and writing process. FINDINGS Of 189 699 individuals included in the study cohort (112 153 men and boys [59%] and 77 546 women and girls [41%]; mean age 21·52 years [SD 12·83; range 4-68]) initiating ADHD medication, 53% (76 477 [74%] of 103 023 adults [aged >17 years], 12 658 [35%] of 35 681 adolescents [aged 13-17 years], and 10 643 [21%] of 50 995 children [aged <13 years]) would have been ineligible for RCT participation. Ethnicity data were not available. Ineligible individuals had a higher likelihood of treatment switching (hazard ratio 1·14, 95% CI 1·12-1·16) and a decreased likelihood of medication discontinuation (0·96, 0·94-0·98) compared with eligible individuals. Individuals ineligible for RCTs had significantly higher rates of psychiatric hospitalisations (ncidence rate ratio 9·68, 95% CI 9·57-9·78) and specialist care visits related to substance use disorder (14·78, 14·64-14·91), depression (6·00, 5·94-6·06), and anxiety (11·63, 11·56-11·69). INTERPRETATION Individuals ineligible for ADHD medication trials face higher risks of adverse outcomes. This study provides the first empirical evidence for the limited generalisability of ADHD RCTs to real-world clinical populations, by applying eligibility criteria extracted from a comprehensive dataset of RCTs to a large real-world cohort. Triangulating evidence from RCTs and real-world studies is crucial to inform rigorous evidence-based treatment guidelines. Abstract
BACKGROUND The study of ADHD has predominantly focused on individual-level risk-factors, and less is known about contextual factors that promote adaptive functioning. AIMS The present study is the first to evaluate the longitudinal association between five dimensions of school climate (academic expectations, student engagement, disciplinary structure, respect for students, willingness to seek help) and student outcomes, and whether ADHD symptom severity moderates those associations. METHODS AND PROCEDURES Participants included 274 adolescents (45 % female) who completed assessments in 8th (T1) and 10th (T2) grades. RESULTS Hierarchical regressions revealed that school climate predicted multiple outcomes over and above ADHD symptom severity, including academic motivation, homework performance, emotion dysregulation, internalizing symptoms, and close friendships. A fair but strict school disciplinary structure and respect for students were the most consistent predictors of study outcomes regardless of ADHD symptom severity. Further, higher levels of disciplinary structure and willingness to seek help attenuated the association between ADHD symptom severity to internalizing symptoms and emotion dysregulation, respectively. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS Interventions are needed that target school level contextual factors, such as applying fair and consistent discipline and demonstrating respect for students. Structural level school factors may partially mitigate the negative impact of ADHD symptoms.

Abstract
This review examines the therapeutic potential of neuromodulation methods, including neurofeedback, transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), as non-pharmacological interventions for children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). A comprehensive review of current studies was conducted, focusing on each technique's mechanism, application, and efficacy in managing ADHD symptoms and cognitive deficits. Studies included human participants with ADHD, evaluating changes in symptom severity and cognitive outcomes. Neurofeedback demonstrated efficacy in symptom reduction, particularly when combined with pharmacotherapy, yielding sustained improvements. tDCS showed moderate efficacy, especially in attention and impulsivity control; however, variability in protocols and pediatric response highlights the need for standardization. TMS exhibited mixed outcomes, with high-frequency TMS targeting the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex indicating potential cognitive benefits, though results were inconsistent across studies. Neuromodulation presents a promising complementary approach for ADHD treatment in children, potentially addressing limitations of pharmacotherapy. Future research should focus on optimizing stimulation parameters, increasing sample sizes, and refining methodologies to establish neuromodulation as part of standard ADHD treatment protocols.

Abstract
Over a quarter of children with Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) meet diagnostic criteria for an anxiety disorder as well. The goals of this paper are (a) to examine what is currently known about co-occurring ADHD and anxiety in children, (b) propose and outline underlying factors relevant to the development of anxiety in children with ADHD, and (c) discuss future directions and clinical implications for the prevention and identification of anxiety development in children with ADHD. It is proposed that certain associated features of ADHD (i.e., low effortful control and emotion dysregulation) as well as various interpersonal factors related to ADHD (i.e., poor parent, teacher, and peer relationships) form a negative feedback loop that increases susceptibility to anxiety in a subset of children with ADHD. The literature supports interrelations between and across the associated features and interpersonal factors. Additional research is needed to test the validity of the proposed process. Obtaining further insight into the interplay between these different factors can help identify a subset of children with ADHD who are at risk for developing anxiety, which can enhance the precision of prevention, assessment, and treatment efforts for these children.

Abstract
Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and subclinical symptoms of hyperactivity-impulsivity and inattentiveness coincide with an increased risk of peer victimization. What remains unclear are the developmental dynamics of these associations. In a sample drawn from two Norwegian birth cohorts (n = 872; 49.94 % girls), assessed biennially from age 6 to age 14, reciprocal relations between ADHD symptoms and victimization were examined while controlling for symptoms of anxiety and depression. ADHD symptoms were assessed through clinical interviews with parents, whereas victimization was reported by teachers using questionnaires. Random-intercept cross-lagged panel modeling revealed a consistent reciprocal within-person effect of increased ADHD symptoms on victimization, and vice versa. Analyses of subdimensions of ADHD projected a consistent cross-lagged bidirectional relationship between victimization and inattentiveness symptoms only, whereas no such reciprocity was found for hyperactivity-impulsivity symptoms. Results did not differ by gender. Findings suggest that the social context may constitute a vulnerability factor in the etiology of the inattentive subtype of ADHD, and at the same time, that inattentiveness symptoms pose a risk for becoming victimized.

Abstract
Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) are among the most common health issues in childhood and adolescence. Psychiatric disorders are known to be overrepresented among children using child welfare services and placed in out-of-home care (OHC). Child- and parent-related determinants for OHC among a national population with NDDs were evaluated utilising longitudinal register data from the national Finnish Birth Cohort 1997 (n = 58,802) from birth to 18 years (1997-2015). The cohort members with NDDs (n = 5,143, 9% of total cohort) formed our study population. Based on their history of OHC, cohort members with NDD were categorised to OHC (n = 903) and non-OHC groups (n = 4,240). Of all cohort members with NDDs, 17.6% had a history of OHC. Within NDDs, a significant excess of ADHD diagnosis was observed in the OHC group compared to the non-OHC group (49% vs. 26%). The OHC group with NDDs was significantly characterised by having comorbid psychiatric diagnosis for conduct and oppositional disorders (adj. RR 2.21), substance use disorders (adj. RR 1.61) and depression and anxiety disorders (adj. RR 1.60). Of all parent-related determinants, the most prevailing in the OHC group compared to the non-OHC group, was social assistance received by parent (88% vs. 44.5%). The longer the period (in years) for received social assistance, the greater the likelihood for OHC (adj. RRs range from 2.41 for one year to 5.24 for over 4 years). Further, significantly associating determinants for OHC were parental psychiatric disorders (adj. RR 1.42) and parental death (adj. RR 1.23). Our findings from the population-based cohort of children and adolescents with NDDs highlight the importance of screening and assessment of family situation. Also, effective prevention and treating of comorbid psychiatric disorders, especially conduct and oppositional disorders is essential.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The study aims to examine family functionality, emotion regulation difficulties, preference for loneliness, social exclusion, internalizing and externalizing disorders, and executive functions in children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Cognitive Disengagement Syndrome (CDS) and compare with ADHD, and ADHD+ Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD). METHOD This study included 842 children aged 8-12 years. The subjects were categorized according to DSM-V as ADHD (n = 246), ADHD + ODD (n = 212), ADHD + CDS (n = 176), and Control group (n = 207). The solitude and social exclusion, difficulties in emotion dysregulation and Barkley SCT scales, Child Behavior Checklist, family assessment device, and Central Vital Signs (CNSVS) test were used. RESULTS According to the study, children with ADHD + CDS had higher rates of internalizing disorders. They also preferred being alone and experienced more difficulty communicating with their parents and solving problems within the family. Additionally, these children had difficulty recognizing and understanding the emotional reactions of others. The ADHD + ODD group presented a poorer performance on CNSVS domain tests except for the psychomotor speed test than other groups. Also, ADHD + CDS children had the lowest psychomotor speed scores and lower scores on reaction time and cognitive flexibility than pure ADHD children. CONCLUSION This study will contribute to the etiology, treatment, and clinical discrimination of ADHD + CDS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Psychiatric comorbidity is frequent among persons with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Whether pharmacological treatment of ADHD influences the incidence of psychiatric comorbidity is uncertain. OBJECTIVE To investigate associations and causal relations between pharmacological treatment of ADHD and incidence of subsequent comorbid psychiatric diagnoses. METHODS We employed registry data covering all individuals aged 5-18 years in Norway who were diagnosed with ADHD during 2009-2011 (n=8051), followed until 2020. We used linear probability models (LPM) and instrumental variable (IV) analyses to examine associations and causal effects, respectively, between pharmacological treatment and subsequent comorbidity. FINDINGS From time of ADHD diagnosis to 9 years of follow-up, 63% of patients were registered with comorbid psychiatric disorders. For males, LPM showed associations between ADHD medication and several incident comorbidities, but strength and direction of associations and consistency over time varied. For females, no associations were statistically significant. IV analyses for selected categories isolating effects among patients 'on the margin of treatment' showed a protective effect for a category of stress-related disorders in females and for tic disorders in males for the first 2 and 3 years of pharmacological treatment, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Overall, LPM and IV analyses did not provide consistent or credible support for long-term effects of pharmacological treatment on later psychiatric comorbidity. However, IV results suggest that for patients on the margin of treatment, pharmacological treatment may initially reduce the incidence of certain categories of comorbid disorders. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS Clinicians working with persons with ADHD should monitor the effects of ADHD medication on later psychiatric comorbidity. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER ISRCTN11891971.

Abstract
This case report discusses a young adolescent with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) - inattentive presentation, and comorbid anxiety and depression that was not diagnosed until age 13. However, most ADHD is diagnosed before age 12. Anxiety and depression are common comorbidities of ADHD that present in primary care and can mimic the symptoms of ADHD. Due to the shortage of trained pediatric behavioral and mental health specialists, primary care pediatric nurse practitioners often diagnose and manage children and adolescents with ADHD and various comorbid conditions. It is essential to look for red flags in young children, especially in ADHD inattentive presentation, because symptoms are often masked and go unrecognized, undiagnosed, and untreated for years, resulting in academic and social problems causing the child and family stress, frustration, and reduced quality of life.

Abstract
Background This study used functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to investigate brain activation patterns in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with and without additional comorbidities to identify disease-related biomarkers by the neuroimaging that will facilitate to make a diagnosis decision. Methods In this study, 165 medication-naive children aged 7 to 15 years were recruited and categorized into four groups: ADHD, ADHD with learning disabilities (ADHD&LD), ADHD with oppositional defiant disorder (ADHD&ODD), and healthy controls. A multichannel fNIRS system was used to monitor hemodynamic changes at rest state in the prefrontal and temporal lobes of the brain. The amplitude of a low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) matrix was calculated by summation and averaging of the square root of the signal power spectrum. One-way analysis of variance was used to identify statistical differences between channels. Results All ADHD children presented significantly higher ALFF values in different brain regions when compared with the healthy controls. Patients with ADHD&LD exhibited higher ALFF values in the medial prefrontal cortex (P Ch38 = .01, P Ch48 = .01), temporal cortex (P Ch22 = .04, P Ch41 = .002, P Ch51 = .001), and the left ventrolateral prefrontal cortex (P Ch39 = .0009, P Ch50 = .001), whereas ADHD&ODD children were not significantly different to those diagnosed with ADHD. Conclusions ADHD with learning disabilities (LD) possessed a different pathogenesis from ADHD, manifested as lower functional brain activity in the medial prefrontal cortex, temporal cortex, and the left ventrolateral prefrontal cortex, while ADHD&ODD did not present significant changes compared with ADHD. ODD-related symptoms may be part of ADHD symptoms rather than being an independent disorder.

Abstract
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and pediatric bipolar disorder (BD) are conditions that often manifest in childhood and can persist into adulthood. Due to the similarities in their clinical presentations, it is crucial for clinicians to have a thorough understanding of these disorders. Accurate differentiation of symptoms is essential for making precise diagnoses, as this directly influences treatment decisions and affects the overall functioning and quality of life of those impacted. Considered here is the case of a teenage male who initially presented with impulsivity and was diagnosed with ADHD. However, upon further evaluation, his diagnosis was revised to BD. This case highlights the importance of diagnostic accuracy in clinical practice. Correctly identifying these conditions ensures timely and appropriate treatment, which can significantly alter the life trajectory of affected individuals. This encompasses improvements in health outcomes and better functioning in social, occupational, and other aspects of their lives when treatment is appropriately tailored.

Abstract
Neurodevelopmental disorders can be studied from two distinct perspectives: an internal approach, which examines the causes and consequences of these disorders; and a contextual approach, which considers the role of the family in the lives of children and adolescents. Research has demonstrated that the most significant form of family involvement in families raising a child with NDD is through homework. This involvement has been shown to have an emotional impact on children with neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD or dyslexia. The objective of this study is to review published articles on homework and neurodevelopmental disorders, with particular attention to the role of the family and the emotional health of children and families. METHOD The review followed the PRISMA guidelines. The final sample consisted of 11 articles, with samples ranging from less than 30 participants to more than 100 at the international level. RESULTS The results demonstrate the complex methodological and bibliometric picture of the final sample, as well as the many emotional and contextual variables that influence the relationship between homework and neurodevelopmental disorders. CONCLUSIONS Future research should consider how emotional health affects the engagement of families with children with neurodevelopmental disorders.

Abstract
BACKGROUND ADHD is the most common childhood neurodevelopmental disorder. The symptomatology makes the management of ADHD particularly demanding in school, so teachers' training programs have been widely implemented. Nevertheless, these interventions could lead teachers to concentrate on the dysfunctional elements of these students, exposing them to the risk of stigmatisation. Conceptualising stigma and inclusion as narrative processes, the present study observed how teacher ADHD training texts, endorsed by the Italian government, impact on the inclusion process of students. METHODS The research analysed a corpus of N = 31,261 text occurrences and focused on three areas: (1) ADHD as a clinical condition; (2) the impact of ADHD characteristics in the scholastic setting; (3) interventions to manage ADHD criticalities in school settings. To observe the interactive processes fostered by the narratives under scrutiny, we used Dialogic Science and MADIT methodology, since they allow us to measure the language use modalities through an index: the Dialogical Weight (dW). The value of dW ranges between 0.1 (min) and 0.9 (max) and is linked to the potential outcomes of inclusion for students with ADHD. A low dW accounts for narratives entrenched in personal beliefs presented as absolute truths, undermining inclusion of students with ADHD. In contrast, high dW signals language interaction relying on sharable elements, able to foster social unity and diminish stigma. RESULTS The results yielded a critical discursive configuration, both in general and for the three distinct areas. We measured an overall Dialogical Weight of 0.4dW and, for the three areas (1) = 0.3dW; (2) = 0.3dW; (3) = 0.4dW. The analysed text does not maximise the triggering of inclusive interactions, as they rely on individual references and present one's narrative as the sole plausible perspective: reinforcing already existing positions and exposing to the risk of stereotyping of the pupils. CONCLUSIONS The study highlighted how the ADHD training materials analysed, focusing on a purely informational and clinical approach, lose in effectiveness with respect to generating inclusive school settings. Finally, to promote the inclusion of these pupils, elements are offered for outlining an approach based on fostering active participation by all roles involved.

Abstract
STUDY OBJECTIVES Adenotonsillectomy (AT) improves short-term symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children; however, its long-term effects remain unclear. We aimed to verify the therapeutic long-term effects of AT in children with ADHD. METHODS This retrospective control study included children ages < 18 years who were diagnosed with ADHD and receiving ADHD medications. Participants were divided into groups depending on whether AT was performed (AT [+] or AT [-] groups) and matched 1:1 for age, sex, and year and month of diagnosis using randomized nonreplacement selection. RESULTS Among patients with ADHD (n = 171,112), 3,615 underwent AT. In both groups, the number of drugs taken gradually increased before and decreased after the AT date (ATD). There was no difference in the number of drugs used before (P = .88) and after ATD (P = .06). Before ATD, the average number of outpatient visits (nOV) did not change in both groups (AT [+]: P = .12; AT [-]: P = .71). After ATD, the average number of outpatient visits decreased only in the AT (+) group (P = .001). However, there was no difference in the average number of outpatient visits between the two groups before (P = .47) and after ATD (P = .17). Before ATD, methylphenidate doses between the groups were not different (P = .06); however, a significant increase was noted after ATD in the AT (+) group (P < .001). CONCLUSIONS AT does not result in significant long-term therapeutic effects in terms of medication use and health care utilization in children with ADHD. CITATION Lee J, Choi A, Kim S, Kim K. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To provide updated national prevalence estimates of diagnosed attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), ADHD severity, co-occurring disorders, and receipt of ADHD medication and behavioral treatment among U.S. children and adolescents by demographic and clinical subgroups using data from the 2022 National Survey of Children's Health (NSCH). METHOD This study used 2022 NSCH data to estimate the prevalence of ever diagnosed and current ADHD among U.S. children aged 3-17 years. Among children with current ADHD, ADHD severity, presence of current co-occurring disorders, and receipt of medication and behavioral treatment were estimated. Weighted estimates were calculated overall and for demographic and clinical subgroups (n = 45,169). RESULTS Approximately 1 in 9 U.S. children have ever received an ADHD diagnosis (11.4%, 7.1 million children) and 10.5% (6.5 million) had current ADHD. Among children with current ADHD, 58.1% had moderate or severe ADHD, 77.9% had at least one co-occurring disorder, approximately half of children with current ADHD (53.6%) received ADHD medication, and 44.4% had received behavioral treatment for ADHD in the past year; nearly one third (30.1%) did not receive any ADHD-specific treatment. CONCLUSIONS Pediatric ADHD remains an ongoing and expanding public health concern, as approximately 1 million more children had ever received an ADHD diagnosis in 2022 than in 2016. Estimates from the 2022 NSCH provide information on pediatric ADHD during the last full year of the COVID-19 pandemic and can be used by policymakers, government agencies, health care systems, public health practitioners, and other partners to plan for needs of children with ADHD.

Abstract
The boundaries between neurodevelopmental disorders are often indistinct, even among specialists. But do these boundaries exist, or do experts struggle to distinguish and categorize symptoms in order to arrive at a dominant diagnosis while comorbidity continually leaves questions about where each disorder ends and begins? What should be reconsidered? The introduction of the term 'spectrum of neurodevelopmental disorders' could pave the way for a re-appraisal of the clinical continuum of neurodevelopmental disorders. This study aims to highlight the problems that emerge in the field of the differential diagnosis of neurodevelopmental disorders and propose a renegotiation of the distinctiveness criteria.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study validated the Japanese version of the Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder-Rating Scale-5 (ADHD-RS-5) and the Disruptive Behavior Disorders Rating Scale. We extended the ADHD-RS-5 by adding the oppositional defiant disorder and conduct disorder subscales to compare the two rating scales psychometrically. METHODS We examined the internal consistency, test-retest reliability, construct validity and criterion validity of the two rating scales in 135 Japanese outpatients aged 6-18 years. RESULTS The internal consistency and test-retest reliability were good for all the subscales of the two rating scales except for the conduct disorder subscale of the ADHD-RS-5 extended. Good construct validity was revealed by expected correlational patterns between subscales from the two rating scales and the Children Behavior Checklist. The criterion validity was good for all the subscales of the two rating scales rated by parents, while teacher-ratings revealed substantially lower predictive ability for all the subscales. Agreement between parent- and teacher-ratings of the two rating scales was generally moderate and using predictive ratings alone of both ratings showed the best predictive ability among the integration methods examined. CONCLUSION The two rating scales have sound psychometric properties and will aid in screening and severity assessment of externalizing disorders in Japanese clinical settings.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Internalizing and externalizing problems predict poor academic and social outcomes. However, ADHD co-occurs with internalizing and externalizing problems and is itself a risk factor, thus preventing precise inferences. This study evaluated childhood anxiety, depression, and aggression as predictors of change in adolescent academic and social outcomes, including moderation by childhood ADHD. METHODS 182 ethnically-diverse 5- to 11-year-old youth with (54.7%) and without (45.3%) ADHD completed a separate baseline and 6- to 7-year prospective follow-up assessment, consisting of parallel measures across youth psychopathology, academic functioning (i.e., academic achievement, school competence), and friendship quality domains. RESULTS Whereas childhood ADHD inversely predicted academic competence, depression and aggression uniquely predicted worsening friendship quality. Interestingly, anxiety was unrelated to change in academic and friendship outcomes; similarly, neither ADHD, depression, nor aggression predicted change in objectively-measured academic achievement from a standardized assessment. CONCLUSION Implications for intervention and prevention are considered, including school-based approaches, within a developmental psychopathology framework.

Abstract
The increase in mental health issues among children and adolescents has been declared a health crisis in the United States, and recent increases in key measures (e.g., self-harm and suicidal behaviors) have been found to disproportionately impact youth from minority backgrounds. Access to mental health treatment for youth is limited, but for minority youth, access to culturally sensitive care is even more limited. This article discusses the ways in which misdiagnosis and underdiagnosis of mental health conditions can occur in minority youth and provides key points for clinicians to consider while working with minority youth to improve mental health outcomes.

Abstract
This study examined the potential benefits of peer-based dyadic interventions for improving the socioemotional functioning of children with ADHD. Participants included children ages 8-12 diagnosed with ADHD-combined type (n = 34) pooled from a larger randomized study comparing peer-based dyadic interventions. Self-concept and depressive symptoms were evaluated at pre- and post-treatment using single group design. Results showed significantly positive child responses to intervention for self-concept. Further, improvements in self-concept were not moderated by the type of dyadic intervention received or by treatment related changes in externalizing behaviors. The severity of reported depressive symptoms, however, did not significantly change. This suggests therapeutic interaction with peers, as demonstrated in peer-based dyadic intervention models, can improve self-concept in children with ADHD even when socioemotional concerns are not a primary target of treatment and independent of behavioral outcomes achieved. These preliminary findings support promoting prosocial peer behavior as a critical domain for ADHD intervention for children.

Abstract
The aim of this longitudinal population-based cohort study was to examine the effects of ADHD and ODD symptoms in adolescence on academic performance at age 16, and on educational attainment by the age of 32. The population studied here was the Northern Finland Birth Cohort 1986 (NFBC1986). The participants were classified into four groups: those with symptoms of ADHD, ODD, ADHD + ODD, and a control group. Early academic performance at the age of 16 years was based on the Joint Application Register for Secondary Education, and eventual educational attainment was derived from the registers of Statistics Finland and included information recorded up to 2018. Although symptoms of pure ODD had a negative effect on academic performance at school relative to the control group, this effect was weaker than that of pure ADHD symptoms. The ADHD + ODD group, both males and females, had the greatest deficits of all in educational attainment in adulthood and failed to progress to an institution of higher education as often as the control group. Symptoms of ODD in adolescent females predicted educational attainment in adulthood that extended no further than the compulsory comprehensive school level. The results remained statistically significant after adjustment for the educational level of the parents of the subjects, family type, and any psychiatric disorders (other than ADHD or ODD). The findings provide valuable information on the pervasive effects of co-occurring symptoms of ADHD and ODD that persist into adulthood.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is characterised by inattentiveness, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Up to half of the affected children have a parent with ADHD. In this study, the risk of ADHD among parents of ADHD children was estimated. The associations between parental ADHD and child ADHD severity and medication adherence were determined. METHODOLOGY Parents of children and adolescents diagnosed with ADHD attending the University Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre (UKMMC) were recruited between June to August 2022 and the administered Conners' Adult ADHD Rating Scale (CAARS) self-report short form, Vanderbilt ADHD Parent Rating Scale (performance section), and Medication Adherence Report Scale (MARS). RESULTS Forty-five children with ADHD were recruited and 15 out of 45 (33%) parents were detected to have ADHD. ADHD severity was worse in children with ADHD parents for total severity (mean of 34.67 vs. 29.13, p = 0.047) and difficult behaviours at home (mean of 7.87 vs. 6.27, p = 0.036). The children's academic performance and behavioural challenges at home and school were positively correlated with the parental ADHD scores for 'inattention' and 'problems with self-care' subscales. CONCLUSIONS A total of 33% of ADHD children had parents with ADHD. ADHD children with ADHD parents were more likely to have behavioural problems at home and more severe ADHD. However, no statistical significance was noted with medication adherence.

Abstract
Objectives Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) is often comorbid with other psychiatric disorders in childhood. This study aimed to investigate comorbid psychiatric symptoms and associated factors in elementary school children with symptoms of ODD. Methods The participants consisted of 205 mother-offspring pairs. Psychiatric symptoms were measured using the Diagnostic Predictive Scales and Korean Child Behavior Checklist. Psychiatric comorbid symptoms were compared between children with ODD symptom and those without ODD symptom. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to estimate the odds ratio of psychiatric symptom on ODD. Results ODD group had a significant association with internalizing and externalizing problem (p=0.001, p<0.001, respectively). ODD group were more comorbid with anxiety disorder, depressive disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and conduct disorder. Among psychiatric disorder, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) (adjusted odds ratio [AOR]=18.620, p<0.001) and conduct disorder (AOR=9.529, p=0.014) were associated with ODD symptom. Conclusion These findings suggest that children with ODD symptom had significantly higher rates of comorbid psychiatric symptoms. And GAD and conduct disorder are related to ODD symptom.

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a psychiatric condition well recognized in the pediatric population that can persist into adulthood. The vast majority of patients with ADHD present psychiatric comorbidities that have been suggested to share, to some extent, the pathophysiological mechanism of ADHD. Lisdexamfetamine (LDX) is a stimulant prodrug approved for treating ADHD and, in the US, also for binge eating disorder (BED). Herein, we evaluated, through a systems biology-based in silico method, the efficacy of a virtual model of LDX (vLDX) as ADHD treatment to improve five common ADHD psychiatric comorbidities in adults and children, and we explored the molecular mechanisms behind LDX's predicted efficacy. After the molecular characterization of vLDX and the comorbidities (anxiety, BED, bipolar disorder, depression, and tics disorder), we created a protein-protein interaction human network to which we applied artificial neural networks (ANN) algorithms. We also generated virtual populations of adults and children-adolescents totaling 2,600 individuals and obtained the predicted protein activity from Therapeutic Performance Mapping System models. The latter showed that ADHD molecular description shared 53% of its protein effectors with at least one studied psychiatric comorbidity. According to the ANN analysis, proteins targeted by vLDX are predicted to have a high probability of being related to BED and depression. In BED, vLDX was modeled to act upon neurotransmission and neuroplasticity regulators, and, in depression, vLDX regulated the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, and glutamatergic excitotoxicity. In conclusion, our modeling results, despite their limitations and although requiring in vitro or in vivo validation, could supplement the design of preclinical and potentially clinical studies that investigate treatment for patients with ADHD with psychiatric comorbidities, especially from a molecular point of view.

Abstract
We examined psychiatric comorbidities moderation of a 2-site double-blind randomized clinical trial of theta/beta-ratio (TBR) neurofeedback (NF) for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Seven-to-ten-year-olds with ADHD received either NF (n = 84) or Control (n = 58) for 38 treatments. Outcome was change in parent-/teacher-rated inattention from baseline to end-of-treatment (acute effect), and 13-month-follow-up. Seventy percent had at least one comorbidity: oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) (50%), specific phobias (27%), generalized anxiety (23%), separation anxiety (16%). Comorbidities were grouped into anxiety alone (20%), ODD alone (23%), neither (30%), or both (27%). Comorbidity (p = 0.043) moderated acute effect; those with anxiety-alone responded better to Control than to TBR NF (d = - 0.79, CI - 1.55- - 0.04), and the other groups showed a slightly better response to TBR NF than to Control (d = 0.22 ~ 0.31, CI - 0.3-0.98). At 13-months, ODD-alone group responded better to NF than Control (d = 0.74, CI 0.05-1.43). TBR NF is not indicated for ADHD with comorbid anxiety but may benefit ADHD with ODD.Clinical Trials Identifier: NCT02251743, date of registration: 09/17/2014.

Abstract
This study explores how EEG connectivity measures in children with ADHD ages 7-10 (n = 140) differ from an age-matched nonclinical database. We differentiated connectivity in networks, Brodmann area pairs, and frequencies. Subjects were in the International Collaborative ADHD Neurofeedback study, which explored neurofeedback for ADHD. Inclusion criteria were mainly rigorously diagnosed ADHD and a theta/beta power ratio (TBR) ≤ 4.5. Using statistical and machine learning algorithms, connectivity values were extracted in coherence, phase, and lag coherence at all Brodmann, subcortical, and cerebellar areas within the main networks in all EEG frequencies and then compared with a normative database. There is a higher rate of dysregulation (more than ± 1.97SD), in some cases as much as 75%, of the Brodmann pairs observed in coherence and phase between BAs 7, 10, and 11 with secondary connections from these areas to BAs 21, 30, 35, 37, 39, and 40 in the ADHD children as compared to the normative database. Left and right Brodmann areas 10 and 11 are highly disconnected to each other. The most dysregulated Brodmann Areas in ADHD are 7, 10, and 11, relevant to ADHD executive-function deficits and provide important considerations when developing interventions for ADHD children.

Abstract
Background Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a prevalent, impairing, and highly heritable condition typically diagnosed in middle childhood. However, it is now recognized that symptoms emerge much earlier in development. Research focused on understanding-using multiple units of analysis-the cascade of early-life (i.e., prenatal-infant-toddler) developmental changes that will later emerge as ADHD has the potential to transform early identification, prevention, and intervention. To this end, we introduce the recently established Early ADHD Consortium, an international network of investigators engaged in prospective, longitudinal studies of risk for ADHD beginning early in life, conducted within a developmental framework, and which incorporate multimethod approaches. This network seeks to harmonize measures and methodological approaches to increase the potential for data sharing and subsequent impact. Methods This perspective paper highlights the importance of investigating pre-diagnostic markers of ADHD, and potential models and mechanisms of ADHD risk and development, with the long-term objective of facilitating development of preemptive interventions that will minimize the impact of ADHD symptoms on everyday functioning and maximize health and developmental outcomes. Results We selectively describe key challenges and questions for this field related to theoretical models and developmental mechanisms in ADHD and recommend next steps for the science, including methodological, measurement, and study design considerations. We then describe potential implications for preemptive intervention development. We conclude by considering other issues including ethical concerns and the critical value of incorporating stakeholder input. Conclusions It is hoped that this perspective puts forth a research agenda that will enhance collaborative efforts and accelerate progress in understanding developmental mechanisms and the early ADHD phenotype, with implications for early intervention enhancement of healthy development for infants, young children, and their families.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) are often at risk of developing emotional problems. AIMS AND METHODS The co-occurrence of anxiety and depression with ASD and/or ADHD was determined by exploring the association with children's clinical and neuropsychological functioning and their parent's mental health. To this end, we assessed 295 preschoolers (PRE; 4-5 years old) and 486 school-aged children (SCH; 10-11 years old) in Tarragona, Spain. NDD diagnoses were based on DSM-5. Emotional problems were assessed using Achenbach's scales. RESULTS Emotional problems (PRE: 36%-78%; SCH: 32%-81%) were more common and more severe in participants with NDD than in controls and children in the ASD + ADHD school-aged group were the most affected. In ADHD, emotional problems were associated with more severe symptoms of attention deficit (PRE) and hyperactivity/impulsivity (SCH). In ASD + ADHD, emotional problems showed a trend of association with more severe ASD repetitive behaviours and impaired working memory, whereas in ASD were associated with greater overall ASD severity. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS Children with NDD are vulnerable to emotional problems, which become more prevalent and interfering with age. Early detection and intervention aimed at tackling emotional problems can improve NDD prognosis.

Abstract
The impairment of executive functions (EFs) in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) might vary from one individual to another, indicating high heterogeneity. Comorbidity may contribute to this heterogeneity. Disruptive behavior disorders (DBD), including oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) and conduct disorder (CD), is the most common comorbidity in ADHD. Although many studies suggest that ADHD with CD (ADHDCD+) and ADHD with ODD (ADHDODD+) should be treated differently, little research has attempted to separate these two disorders when studying the EFs and brain imaging of ADHD with DBD (ADHDDBD+). Thus, based on our ongoing research in ADHD, we have now recruited a large sample size of medication-naïve children to obtain estimates of neurocognitive function and functional brain networks. We found no EF impairment in ADHDCD+ patients compared with healthy controls (HCs). Correlation analysis showed that more severe CD symptoms were associated with better EFs. The mediation analysis revealed that the relationship between CD symptoms and inhibition function was mediated by the functional connectivity (FC) of SMN(L) - DMN(R) in the younger group. The study suggested that ADHDCD+ and ADHDODD+ are different in their EF impairment. The comorbidity of CD may not worsen the impairments and might even improve EF performance within ADHD individuals.

Abstract
The general psychopathology factor (GPF) has been proposed as a way to capture variance shared between psychiatric symptoms. Despite a growing body of evidence showing both genetic and environmental influences on GPF, the biological mechanisms underlying these influences remain unclear. In the current study, we conducted epigenome-wide meta-analyses to identify both probe- and region-level associations of DNA methylation (DNAm) with school-age general psychopathology in six cohorts from the Pregnancy And Childhood Epigenetics (PACE) Consortium. DNAm was examined both at birth (cord blood; prospective analysis) and during school-age (peripheral whole blood; cross-sectional analysis) in total samples of N = 2178 and N = 2190, respectively. At school-age, we identified one probe (cg11945228) located in the Bromodomain-containing protein 2 gene (BRD2) that negatively associated with GPF (p = 8.58 × 10-8). We also identified a significant differentially methylated region (DMR) at school-age (p = 1.63 × 10-8), implicating the SHC Adaptor Protein 4 (SHC4) gene and the EP300-interacting inhibitor of differentiation 1 (EID1) gene that have been previously implicated in multiple types of psychiatric disorders in adulthood, including obsessive compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, and major depressive disorder. In contrast, no prospective associations were identified with DNAm at birth. Taken together, results of this study revealed some evidence of an association between DNAm at school-age and GPF. Future research with larger samples is needed to further assess DNAm variation associated with GPF.

Abstract
Effective methods to assess mental disorders in children are necessary for accurate prevalence estimates and to monitor prevalence over time. This study assessed updates of the tic disorder and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) modules of the Diagnostic Interview Schedule for Children, Version 5 (DISC-5) that reflect changes in diagnostic criteria in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (Fifth edition, DSM-5). The DISC-5 tic disorder and ADHD parent- and child-report modules were compared to expert clinical assessment for 100 children aged 6-17 years (40 with tic disorder alone, 17 with tic disorder and ADHD, 9 with ADHD alone, and 34 with neither) for validation. For the tic disorder module, parent-report had high (>90%) sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), and accuracy, while the youth-report had high specificity and PPV, moderate accuracy (81.4%), and lower sensitivity (69.8%) and NPV (67.3%). The ADHD module performed less well: parent-report had high NPV (91.4%), moderate sensitivity (80.8%), and lower specificity (71.6%), PPV (50.0%), and accuracy (74.0%); youth-report had moderate specificity (82.8%) and NPV (88.3%), and lower sensitivity (65.0%), PPV (54.2%), and accuracy (78.6%). Adding teacher-report of ADHD symptoms to DISC-5 parent-report of ADHD increased sensitivity (94.7%) and NPV (97.1%), but decreased specificity (64.2%), PPV (48.7%), and accuracy (72.2%). These findings support using the parent-report tic disorder module alone or in combination with the child report module in future research and epidemiologic studies; additional validation studies are warranted for the ADHD module.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Children experiencing unfavorable family circumstances have an increased risk of developing externalizing symptoms. The present study examines the direct, indirect and total effects of family adversity, parental psychopathology, and positive and negative parenting practices on symptoms of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) in children with ADHD. METHODS Data from 555 children (M = 8.9 years old, 80.5% boys) who participated in a multicenter study on the treatment of ADHD (ESCAschool) were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM). RESULTS The SEM analyses revealed that (a) family adversity and parental psychopathology are associated with both child ADHD and ODD symptoms while negative parenting practices are only related to child ODD symptoms; (b) family adversity is only indirectly associated with child ADHD and ODD symptoms, via parental psychopathology and negative parenting practices; (c) the detrimental effect of negative parenting practices on child ADHD and ODD symptoms is stronger in girls than in boys (multi-sample SEM); (d) there are no significant associations between positive parenting practices and child ADHD or ODD symptoms. CONCLUSIONS Family adversity, parental psychopathology, and negative parenting practices should be routinely assessed by clinicians and considered in treatment planning. Abstract
IMPORTANCE Adolescents with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) often experience difficulties with executive function and participation in life roles. Ecologically valid performance-based tests (PBTs) are needed to assess functional cognition in this population. OBJECTIVE To examine the known-groups, concurrent, and ecological validity of a functional cognition PBT, the Hebrew version of the Weekly Calendar Planning Activity (WCPA) Middle/High School Version, among adolescents with and without ADHD. DESIGN Cross-sectional between-groups design. SETTING Community. PARTICIPANTS One hundred two adolescents (ages 12-18 yr), with (n = 52) and without (n = 50) ADHD. OUTCOMES AND MEASURES The Hebrew version of the WCPA Middle/High School Version, MOXO™-Continuous Performance Test (MOXO-CPT), Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function (BRIEF) parent form, and Child and Adolescent Scale of Participation (CASP). RESULTS The results showed significant between-groups differences with medium to large effect sizes for scores on most WCPA measures, with the ADHD group receiving significantly lower scores. Significant correlations in the expected direction were found between scores on the MOXO-CPT Attention and Hyperactivity indices and WCPA measures. Significant correlations were also found between most WCPA measures and the BRIEF Global Executive Composite (GEC) and the CASP. Multiple linear regression on the CASP indicated that the WCPA strategy score and the BRIEF GEC were significant predictors in the model. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE Results support the known-groups validity of the WCPA Middle/High School Version between adolescents with and without ADHD. Concurrent and ecological validity were supported by significant associations with measures of cognition and participation. What This Article Adds: These results reinforce the premise that the WCPA Middle/High School Version can be implemented as a valid measure of functional cognition among adolescents with ADHD.

Abstract
Anxiety and depression symptoms may leave children at risk for lower academic scores, though this unique linkage to academic achievement in underserved youth is less well established. This study aimed to examine how anxiety and depression are uniquely related to spelling and math achievement beyond attention and hyperactivity deficits in children in underserved schools. Children aged 8 to 11 (n = 1085, 47.3% female) from historically underserved groups (Hispanic 75.3%, American Indian 6.4%, Black 4.9%, and White 1.5%) from 13 schools across two public school districts in California participated in the assessment of emotional and behavioral health symptoms that included a spelling and math assessment. While there was no relationship between anxiety or hyperactivity on spelling and math scores, depression and attention problems were significantly negatively related to spelling and math scores. However, when entered simultaneously, evidence of suppressor effects emerged. Anxiety and hyperactivity both became positively predictive of math. Similarly, anxiety became positively predictive of spelling. Subsample analyses showed that these suppressor effects were only in females. The associations among anxiety, depression, attention, and hyperactivity with spelling and math achievement are complex, and when controlling for depression and attention, anxiety levels and hyperactivity may be motivating some level of achievement in these areas.

Abstract
Although the evidence for the genetic basis of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is strong, environmental factors, such as the quality of parenting or the home environment, may moderate such genetic liability. The plausible negative effect of a low-quality home environment and negative parenting on child outcomes is well-established; however, the positive effect of a high-quality environment and positive parenting remained largely uninvestigated. Due to the presence of genetic, temperamental, or physiological factors, children who were traditionally considered at-risk for ADHD may be more sensitive to aspects of their environment compared to children who are not at such risk. Therefore, they would be more affected by their environmental experience, either for good or bad. Under supportive environmental conditions, such at-risk individuals might actually outperform their non-vulnerable peers, suggesting that these individual factors might be considered susceptibility factors rather than risk factors. Little is known regarding the positive effect of the environment in the ADHD literature, but it has been demonstrated in cognitive functions that are closely associated with ADHD, such as executive functions (EF). We review this literature and examine the extant empirical support for sensitivity to aspects of the home environment and parenting in the case of ADHD and EF. Moreover, we review factors that could help identify the specific aspects of the home environment and parenting that these children might be more susceptible to. Such knowledge could be valuable when designing preventive interventions and identifying those children that are especially sensitive and could benefit from such interventions. Recommendations for future studies are discussed as well.

Objective As a type of music therapy, multipart chorus does not have high requirements for participants, and the basic level can be high or low. For college students, it is more likely to participate. Exploring the effect of multivoice chorus intervention on college students' mental health can provide reference for school psychological correction work. This study uses multivoice chorus as a means, combined with certain group psychological counseling techniques, to try to explore a new model for improving the mental health of college students. Method Fifty college students in prison were selected as subjects and randomly divided into the control group and experimental group. The multivoice chorus method was used to conduct an intervention test on the mental health of the college students in the experimental group, and the observation was carried out for 3 months. Before and after the intervention, the anxiety self-rating scale, the trust scale, the social avoidance and distress scale, the shyness scale, the UCLA loneliness scale, and the college student psychological test personality subtest were used for psychological testing and evaluation. Results/Discussion. College students can actively recognize and reflect on their own behavior, and objectively evaluate others. Through the cognition and management of emotions, college students can handle personal emotions well in interpersonal communication. In the later stage of multivoice chorus, they can help each other, establish a mutual assistance system, help each other, and discuss and learn interpersonal communication skills together, so that college students can learn good interpersonal communication experience and skills from others in various interactions, achieve self-help, and promote college students to work together. In the process of interfering with interpersonal communication disorder, simple psychological counseling has also improved the phenomenon of interpersonal communication disorder, but the experimental effect is far from the effect of the combination of music education and psychological counseling, and it is relatively unstable in the stability test. In the specific operation, in the purely psychological counseling process, college students with interpersonal barriers do not actively cooperate with the intervention, the operating atmosphere is relatively dull, and the teachers are time-consuming and labor-intensive during the psychological counseling process, but the results are minimal. The only effect is also worn out within a few weeks, and the stability is poor. It can be seen that music education has played a pivotal role as a medium in the intervention of interpersonal communication disorders, which can make the intervention process easier, more effective, and more stable.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adolescence is associated with functional impairment in several domains of life. To enable development of interventions that more effectively target functional impairment in this age group, the associations between clinical characteristics and impairment need to be clarified. The aim of this study was to investigate the associations between ADHD and functional impairment, if they varied by sex, and the potential impact of comorbid psychiatric symptoms on the associations. METHODS This was a cross-sectional study including adolescents with ADHD (n = 164) and a reference group of adolescents without ADHD (n = 106). Self-ratings and parental ratings of functional impairment in different life domains were used as outcomes in all analyses. Differences between groups were investigated with comparative analyses. General linear models (GLMs) were used to explore associations between ADHD symptoms and functional impairment in adolescents with ADHD, while adjusting for of comorbid symptoms, sex, and medication. RESULTS Adolescents with ADHD displayed higher levels of functional impairment than peers without ADHD, and girls with ADHD rated higher impairment than their male counterparts. The combined ADHD presentation was associated with the highest levels of self-reported impairment, while parental ratings indicated comparable levels of overall impairment across presentations. In the adjusted GLMs, symptoms of inattention were strongly associated with self- and parent-rated impairment in school, but symptoms of hyperactivity/impulsivity were not, whereas symptoms of both inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity were modestly associated with self-rated impairment with friends. Further, both emotional and conduct problems were associated with impairment in daily life. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest that attention difficulties, in particular, seem to impair academic functioning in adolescents with ADHD, and interventions targeting such difficulties are warranted. In addition, comorbid symptoms need to be assessed and treated, and self-reports of functioning should be included in research and clinical practice involving adolescents.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION ADHD is a common neurodevelopmental disorder and is highly prevalent in adults. It is associated with several negative outcomes, impacting well-being and global functioning. ADHD is highly associated with comorbidities, anxiety disorders being probably the most frequent. The goal of our study is to assess the prevalence of anxiety disorders and their impact in adults with ADHD. METHOD 353 individuals diagnosed with ADHD were recruited. Severity of ADHD was assessed as well as lifetime anxiety disorders and other psychiatric comorbidities. We performed logistic and linear regressions to test the impact of lifetime anxiety disorders on demographic and clinical variables. RESULTS More than half of the patients had at least one anxiety disorder. The presence of comorbid anxiety disorders was associated with worse clinical presentation (positive history of suicide attempts, higher disposition toward anger, higher rate of hospitalization and psychotic symptoms) and with a lower level of education. CONCLUSION Anxiety disorders are highly prevalent in ADHD and are associated with higher levels of suicidality and disposition towards anger, more severe clinical presentation and lower functioning. Comorbid anxiety needs to be evaluated and treated by clinicians to limit distress, aggression towards self and others and to improve quality of life.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To estimate the prevalence of ADHD, and related comorbidities, mortality, and type of health service use among children and young adults, using different case definitions. METHODS We conducted a population-based retrospective cohort study between 2000 and 2018, using the Quebec Integrated Chronic Disease Surveillance System (QICDSS) database. All residents aged less than 25 years eligible for health insurance coverage were included. We compared outcomes of three indicators (morbidity, services use and mortality) according two different algorithms of ADHD definitions, to the general population. RESULTS The cumulative prevalence of ADHD has risen steadily over the past decade, reaching 12.6% in 2017-2018. People with ADHD have a higher prevalence of psychiatric comorbidities, make greater use of medical, mental health services, and are hospitalized more often. The comparison of prevalence between the two algorithms and the general population for the three indicators showed that the cohort having one claim was very close to that with two or more, and statistically significant higher to that of people without ADHD. CONCLUSION This finding support that a single claim algorithm for ADHD can be used for case definition. More research is needed on the impact of potentially effective treatments in improving consequences of ADHD.

Abstract
Studies have revealed high rates of neurodevelopmental and psychiatric comorbid conditions among individuals diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). However, research on this topic in the Arab world has been limited. This study evaluates the medical, neurodevelopmental, and psychiatric comorbidities in children and adolescents diagnosed with ADHD in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). A total of 428 pediatric patients diagnosed with ADHD were included. Children and adolescents with ADHD had high rates of comorbid disorders. Twenty comorbid conditions were identified. More than 3 quarters of the study sample had at least 1 comorbid disorder. The most common comorbidity among children was autism spectrum disorder, and among adolescents was anxiety disorders. Comprehensive assessments are highly warranted to identify and manage associated comorbid conditions. Further research is needed in exploring the biopsychosocial factors contributing to the elevated rate of comorbidity in children and adolescents with ADHD.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION It remains unclear whether specific clinical factors contribute to heterogeneity in the timing of the onset of major depression. METHODS Using a nationally representative US adult sample, the second wave of the National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions, we compared the characteristics of 5 different groups of patients defined by their age at onset: (i) before 18 years, (ii) between 18 and 34 years, (iii) between 35 and 44 years, (iv) between 45 and 59 years, and (v) 60 years or older. Specifically, we examined parental history of psychiatric disorders, history of childhood maltreatment experiences, sociodemographic characteristics, lifetime psychiatric disorders, and psychiatric disorders that occurred before the first major depressive episode (MDE). RESULTS Compared with first MDE occurring between 18 and 34 years, first MDE before 18 years was more strongly associated with childhood maltreatment and family history of psychiatric disorders, and less strongly linked to prior lifetime psychiatric disorders, whereas first MDE occurring at 60 years and older was more strongly associated with widowhood and a prior lifetime history of generalized anxiety disorder. LIMITATIONS Associations found cannot be interpzreted as causal relationships due to study design and the risk of recall bias. CONCLUSION Our results suggest substantial age differences in risk factors for first MDE. Improving early detection and treatment of major depression and other psychiatric disorders, and preventing childhood maltreatment may have broad benefits to reduce the burden of MDE at all ages.

Abstract
Previous research indicates elevated levels of clinically significant traits and symptoms of autism spectrum disorder and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children with chronic pain, but associations with functioning and depression are yet unclear. The current study examined the relationships of autistic traits and ADHD symptoms with pain interference, depression, and health-related quality of life, as well as the mediating roles of insomnia and psychological inflexibility, in children with chronic pain (n = 146, 8–17 years, 102 girls) presenting at a tertiary pain clinic. Children completed measures of pain intensity, depression, pain interference, health-related quality of life, insomnia, and psychological inflexibility. Parents (n = 146, 111 mothers) completed measures to assess autistic traits and ADHD symptoms in their children. Children with clinically significant autistic traits and ADHD symptoms presented with significantly higher levels of depressive symptoms and pain interference, and significantly lower health-related quality of life, than did the other children. Autistic traits and ADHD symptoms contributed significantly to the prediction of pain interference and depressive symptoms, as well as health-related quality of life. Psychological inflexibility mediated the relationships between ADHD symptoms and autistic traits on the one hand and depression, pain interference, and health-related quality of life on the other, while insomnia mediated the relationships between ADHD symptoms and depression, pain interference, and health-related quality of life. All analyses were adjusted for demographics and pain intensity. Results suggest the utility of screening for neurodevelopmental disorders in children with chronic pain. Furthermore, the findings may indicate insomnia and skills related to psychological flexibility as potential treatment targets in interventions aiming at improving functioning and health-related quality of life in children with chronic pain and co-occurring symptoms of neurodevelopmental disorders.

Abstract
Objective: This study investigates whether the dynamic functional connectivity (dFC) of the amygdala subregions is altered in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Methods: The dFC of the amygdala subregions was systematically calculated using a sliding time window method, for 75 children with ADHD and 20 healthy control (HC) children. Results: Compared with the HC group, the right superficial amygdala exhibited significantly higher dFC with the right prefrontal cortex, the left precuneus, and the left post-central gyrus for children in the ADHD group. The dFC of the amygdala subregions showed a negative association with the cognitive functions of children in the ADHD group. Conclusion: Functional connectivity of the amygdala subregions is more unstable among children with ADHD. In demonstrating an association between the stability of functional connectivity of the amygdala and cognitive functions, this study may contribute by providing a new direction for investigating the internal mechanism of ADHD.

Abstract
Taijin-Kyofu-sho is an East Asian culture-bound anxiety disorder with similarities to social anxiety disorder. However, few studies have examined these two disorders from the perspective of neurodevelopmental disorders. This study is aimed at examining the association of Taijin-Kyofu-sho and social anxiety disorder with the attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) trait and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) trait. The Liebowitz Social Anxiety, Taijin-Kyofu-sho, and Adult Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Self-Report scales and the 16-item Autism-Spectrum Quotient were administered to 818 university students. Participants were divided into four groups: control (neither Taijin-Kyofu-sho nor social anxiety disorder), pure Taijin-Kyofu-sho (Taijin-Kyofu-sho alone), pure social anxiety disorder (social anxiety disorder alone), and mixed Taijin-Kyofu-sho-social anxiety disorder (both Taijin-Kyofu-sho and social anxiety disorder). We used logistic regression analysis to examine whether the ADHD trait and ASD trait were associated with Taijin-Kyofu-sho and social anxiety disorder. ASD trait was significantly associated with pure Taijin-Kyofu-sho (p = 0.006, odds ratio: 3.99). Female sex and ADHD trait were significantly associated with pure social anxiety disorder (sex: p = 0.013, odds ratio: 2.61; ADHD trait: p = 0.012, odds ratio: 2.46). Female sex, ADHD trait, and ASD trait were significantly associated with mixed Taijin-Kyofu-sho-social anxiety disorder (sex: p = 0.043, odds ratio: 2.16; ADHD trait: p = 0.003, odds ratio: 2.75; ASD trait: p < 0.001, odds ratio: 16.93). Neurodevelopmental disorder traits differed between individuals with Taijin-Kyofu-sho and those with social anxiety disorder. Overall, our study reveals that Japanese individuals with the ADHD or ASD traits are at a heightened risk of developing Taijin-Kyofu-sho or social anxiety disorder.

Did Affiliate Stigma Predict Affective and Behavioral Outcomes in Caregivers and Their Children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder? Abstract
The aim of this follow-up study was to examine the predictive values of caregivers' affiliate stigma at baseline for depression in caregivers and internalizing and externalizing symptoms in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) 1 year later. The Study on Affiliate Stigma in Caregivers of Children with ADHD surveyed the levels of affiliate stigma and depression in 400 caregivers and the behavioral problems of their children with ADHD. The levels of the caregivers' depression and children's behavioral problems were assessed 1 year later. The associations of caregivers' affiliate stigma at baseline with depression in caregivers and internalizing and externalizing symptoms in children with ADHD at follow-up were examined using stepwise multiple regression. The results indicated that before caregivers' depression and children's behavioral problems at baseline were controlled, caregivers' affiliate stigma at baseline positively predicted caregivers' depression and all children's behavioral problems. After caregivers' depression and children's behavioral problems at baseline were controlled, caregivers' affiliate stigma at baseline still positively predicted children's affective and somatic problems. Parenting training and cognitive behavioral therapy should be provided to caregivers with intense affiliate stigma to prevent emotional problems and difficulties in managing their children's behavioral problems.
