Abstract
Visceral hypersensitivity and impaired gut barrier function, accompanied by minor inflammation, are crucial components of the pathophysiology of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Research has demonstrated that corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) and toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) signaling mutually activate to produce proinflammatory cytokines, which modulate these gastrointestinal changes. Irisin, a myokine, has been shown to inhibit TLR4-proinflammatory cytokine signaling, thereby improving inflammation driven by obesity and metabolic syndrome. Based on this, we hypothesized that irisin could improve visceral hypersensitivity and impaired gut barrier function induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or CRF (IBS rat models), and tested this hypothesis. The visceral pain threshold, triggered by colonic balloon distention, was assessed by electrophysiologically monitoring abdominal muscle contractions in male Sprague-Dawley rats. Colonic permeability was evaluated by measuring the amount of Evans blue dye absorbed within the colonic tissue. Intraperitoneal irisin prevented LPS-induced visceral hypersensitivity and colonic hyperpermeability in a dose-dependent manner. Irisin also prevented CRF-induced gastrointestinal alterations. The beneficial effects of irisin in the LPS model were reversed by compound C, an AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) inhibitor; NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester, a nitric oxide (NO) synthesis inhibitor; sulpiride or domperidone, a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist; atropine and intracisternal injection of SB-334867, a selective orexin 1 receptor antagonist. Overall, these findings suggest that irisin improves visceral sensation and colonic barrier function through AMPK, NO and dopamine D2, cholinergic and brain orexin signaling in IBS model. Thus, irisin may be a promising therapeutic agent for treating IBS.

Abstract
Physical therapy modalities play an essential role in the treatment of osteonecrosis and bone marrow edema. In addition to an accurate diagnosis, it is essential to understand the pathogenesis of the disease in order to define relevant physiological, cellular and biochemical targets. After careful consideration of efficacy and side effects, these therapies can be used both as adjunctive measures and as stand-alone treatments to prevent disease progression. In particular, shock wave and magnetic field therapies show promising results both clinically and in ongoing trials. In addition, in the acute phase, a targeted unloading phase may be helpful to reduce mechanical pressure on bone tissue. Interdisciplinary treatment planning and patient compliance are of similar importance.

Abstract
Our objective was to explore the effect of aerobic exercise on endothelial function in hypertensive and prehypertensive patients, and to ascertain the optimal duration and intensity of aerobic exercise. Data were synthesized using a random effects model to calculate the weighted mean difference (WMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI). Fifteen studies met the inclusion criteria. Aerobic exercise was found to significantly improve flow-mediated dilation (FMD) in prehypertensive and hypertensive patients (WMD, 2.23; 95% CI, 1.20-3.26; P < 0.0001; I2 = 90%). Aerobic exercise, undertaken at a moderate or, even better, vigorous intensity, and lasting no less than 12 weeks, is an effective approach to improve flow-mediated dilation (FMD) in prehypertensive and hypertensive patients. The effect of aerobic exercise on endothelial function is influenced by participant characteristics: a better health status, a younger age, a larger basal body mass index, and a larger basal FMD were associated with larger improvement in FMD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To examine specific physical activities' associations with biomarkers and compare metabolic equivalent of task (MET) score with biomarker-weighted score for type 2 diabetes (T2D) risk. METHODS We used data from three large US prospective cohorts (1988/1991-2018/2019). Nine activities - walking, jogging, running, bicycling, lap swimming, tennis/squash, other aerobics, weightlifting, and heavy outdoor work - were assessed biennially. Biomarker analysis included 25,438 participants with data on C-peptide, C-reactive protein (CRP), intercellular adhesion molecule 1, leptin/adiponectin, and triglycerides/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL). T2D risk analysis involved 183,892 participants followed for up to 30 years. Models were adjusted for confounders and total physical activity excluding the one of interest. RESULTS Running demonstrated the strongest association with a healthier cardiometabolic profile, followed by jogging, aerobics and weightlifting. For every one hour/week of running, the percent difference in concentration was -4.4 % for C-peptide, -6.6 % for CRP, -11.5 % for leptin/adiponectin, and -5.6 % for TG/HDL (all P < 0.001). Adjusting for body mass index (BMI) slightly weakened the associations for these activities but they remained statistically significant. Walking and tennis/squash showed modest biomarker associations and became null after BMI adjustment. No association was observed for bicycling, lap swimming and heavy outdoor work, likely due to lacking intensity data. The biomarker-weighted score (90th vs. 10th of total physical activity, HR = 0.52; 95%CI, 0.50-0.55) had a stronger association with T2D risk than the MET score (HR = 0.61; 95%CI, 0.58-0.63). CONCLUSIONS Types of physical activity had distinct associations with cardiometabolic biomarkers. A biomarker-weighted score performs better than MET score for T2D risk.

Abstract
While obesity rates increase worldwide, physical activity levels are reduced. Obesity and physical inactivity may be inversely related to the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and cause oxidative stress in the central nervous system. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of aerobic physical exercise on the oxidative balance of the prefrontal cortex of rats subjected to overnutrition during lactation. For this, male Wistar rats were subjected to overnutrition during lactation between postnatal day 3 to 21. On postnatal day 23, the two groups of animals were subdivided into trained and untrained animals. Trained rats were subjected to a treadmill training protocol for four weeks, five days/week, 60 min/day, at 50% of maximum running capacity. Our findings demonstrate that overnutrition impairs REDOX balance in the prefrontal cortex through increased prooxidants and reduced antioxidant defenses. On the contrary, exercise tends to restore most of these measures to control levels, possibly due to the increase in mRNA levels of Sirt1 and reduction in Il-6 in the prefrontal cortex. Overnutrition causes oxidative stress in the prefrontal cortex, while exercise re-covers most of its adverse effects through activating anti-inflammatory mechanisms.

Abstract
Depression has become one of the most common mental disorders in the world. The rising incidence rate and disability rate pose a serious challenge to public health and socio-economic development. Traditional medication and psychotherapy are positive, but they often come with limitations such as side effects, poor compliance, and resource constraints, which highlights the urgent need for more proactive and sustainable non pharmacological interventions. We mainly explored the physiological and psychological mechanisms of exercise in alleviating depression in different age groups. In particular, we evaluated the characteristics and influencing factors of depression in each age group and compared the pathways through which exercise works, aiming to provide scientific basis for clinical practice and public health policies, and strengthen the application of non pharmacological treatment in depression management. It is worth noting that, in the context of a comprehensive search and analysis of recent literature, we have covered the epidemiology of depression, the impact of exercise on mental health, the characteristics of depression in different age groups, and the specific ways in which exercise alleviates depression through physiological and psychological mechanisms. Exercise alleviates symptoms of depression by regulating neurotransmitters, enhancing neuroplasticity, regulating hormone levels, reducing inflammatory responses through physiological pathways, as well as enhancing cognitive function, strengthening emotional regulation, triggering social interactions, and improving self-efficacy through psychological pathways. The differences in physiological and psychological mechanisms among different age groups determine the age dependent characteristics of exercise in mitigating depression. Teenagers, middle-aged people, and elderly people can improve depressive symptoms by enhancing neural progression, regulating stress responses, and strengthening social support, respectively.

Abstract
Physical inactivity (PIA) is a pressing public health issue globally, contributing significantly to the rise of non-communicable diseases (NCD), such as cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. The World Health Organization emphasises the importance of regular physical activity (PA) for preventing and managing NCDs. Initiatives to promote active living have gained momentum, ranging from community programs to workplace wellness campaigns, all focused on reducing sedentary lifestyles in modern society. Structured Physical Activity-Dance, Exercise, and Sports (SPADES) has emerged as an innovative approach to addressing PIA and promoting holistic health. After thoroughly reviewing existing literature from PubMed and Google Scholar databases, a panel of experts developed consensus statements through in-depth discussions, and the strength of concurrence on these statements was voted on using a Likert scale. The panel reached a consensus on the best strategies for PA, dance, exercise, sports, and key factors to consider during PA. This consensus targets individuals with metabolic diseases, particularly in regions like South Asia, East Africa, the Gulf, and Latin America, where these conditions are highly prevalent. The SPADES guidelines emphasise overcoming the barriers people with metabolic disorders face in achieving adequate PA, providing tailored recommendations to improve health outcomes for this population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Aging is associated with sustained low-grade inflammation, which has been linked to age-related diseases and mortality. Long-term exercise programs have been shown to be effective to for attenuating this process; however, subsequent detraining might negate some of these benefits. Master athletes, as a model of lifelong consistent exercise practice, have been suggested to present similar inflammatory profiles to untrained young adults. Nonetheless, it is unclear whether maintaining training habits throughout life can completely counteract low-grade inflammation associated with aging. OBJECTIVES We aimed to systematically evaluate comparisons of baseline inflammatory profiles in Master athletes, untrained middle-aged and older adults, and untrained young individuals to elucidate whether lifelong exercise can counteract low-grade inflammation associated with aging. METHODS A systematic review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement, and a protocol was prospectively registered in PROSPERO (CRD42024521339). Studies reporting baseline systemic levels of proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory markers in Master athletes and untrained controls were eligible for inclusion. A total of six databases (PubMed [MEDLINE], Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials [CENTRAL], Scopus, SPORTDiscus, and Web of Science [WoS]) were searched in September 2024, and studies were independently screened by two reviewers. Risk of bias was assessed using an adapted version of the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal tool for cross-sectional trials, and random-effect meta-analyses of standardized mean differences (SMDs) of inflammatory markers were conducted to evaluate comparisons between Master athletes and age-matched untrained middle-aged and older adults as well as Master athletes and young untrained subjects. Subgroup analyses were performed based on exercise intensity and type, and participants' sex. RESULTS A total of 17 studies (n = 649 participants) were included both in qualitative and quantitative synthesis. Lifelong exercise appears to attenuate increases in baseline C-reactive protein, and to elevate anti-inflammatory interleukin (IL)-10 levels compared with untrained middle-aged and older adults (C-reactive protein: SMD - 0.71, 95% confidence interval - 0.97, - 0.45, I2 0%, p = 0.78; IL-10: SMD 1.44, 95% confidence interval 0.55, 2.32, I2 87%, p < 0.00001). Statistical significance was maintained in C-reactive protein and IL-10 sub-analyses. No difference in tumor necrosis factor-α levels was observed between Master athletes and untrained middle-aged and older adults (SMD 0.40, 95% confidence interval - 0.15, 0.96, I2 72%, p = 0.0008). A trend towards decreased IL-6 levels in Master athletes was shown in pooled analyses comparing untrained middle-aged and older adults, and rendered statistically significant in sub-analyses. However, comparisons with young untrained adults indicated that Master athletes still present with elevated levels of tumor necrosis factor-α and IL-6, along with decreased IL-10. CONCLUSIONS Master athletes might exhibit a more anti-inflammatory profile denoted by decreased baseline circulating levels of C-reactive protein and, potentially, IL-6, along with increased IL-10 compared with healthy age-matched untrained peers. However, lifelong exercise might still be insufficient to completely counteract age-related changes in tumor necrosis factor-α, IL-6, and IL-10, as shown in comparisons with untrained young adults.

Abstract
Functional power-based exercise training can improve physical performance in older adults and cognitive training can improve measures of cognition, but their combined effects on cognition and related risk factors (neurological and inflammatory markers) remains uncertain. This 6-month cluster randomised controlled trial evaluated the effectiveness of dual-task functional power training (DT-FPT) on cognition and circulating neurological and inflammatory markers in older adults at increased falls risk, and whether intervention responses varied by apolipoprotein-E (ApoE) and brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) polymorphisms. Three hundred residents aged ≥ 65 years at increased falls risk residing in 22 independent-living retirement communities, were randomised by village, to DT-FPT (n = 156, 11 villages) involving a multi-component power-based training program performed simultaneously with cognitive and/or motor tasks (45-60 min, 2/week), or a usual care control (CON) group (n = 144, 11 villages). Cognition (computerized CogState battery), inflammatory cytokines, BDNF, insulin-like growth factor-1, vascular endothelial growth factor, amyloid β (1-40) and (1-42) were assessed at baseline and 6-months. Overall, 233 (78%) participants completed the intervention and adherence averaged 50.1%. DT-FPT led to a net 0.18-0.20 SD benefit versus CON in psychomotor ability/attention and reaction time/attention (both P < 0.05). There were no significant intervention effects on circulating markers, except for a net 10.5% benefit in amyloid β (1-40) in DT-FPT versus CON (P < 0.05). Responses were not influenced by APOE or BDNF genotype. In conclusion, DT-FPT in older adults at increased falls risk can provide some cognitive benefits, but these were not related to corresponding changes in inflammatory or neurological markers or influenced by genotype. Abstract
Physical activity (PA) may be considered an alternative method to ameliorate the elevated mortality risks associated with cadmium exposure. In this prospective cohort study, a total of 20,253 participants (weighted mean age, 47.79 years), including 10,247 men (weighted prevalence: 50.1 %), aged 18 years or older, were selected from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2007 to 2018. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression models were utilized to evaluate the associations between blood cadmium levels, PA, and the risks of mortality. Restricted cubic spline analyses were employed to investigate the nonlinear relationships between blood cadmium and PA levels and mortality risks. During a median follow-up of 7.6 years, a total of 2002 (9.89 %) all-cause deaths occurred, of which 581 (2.87 %) participants were due to cardiovascular disease (CVD) and 498 (2.46 %) died of cancer. J-shaped associations were observed for blood cadmium with risks of mortality (all Poverall < 0.001; all Pnonlinearity < 0.001). Blood cadmium and PA had multiplicative interactions on mortality risk (all Pinteraction < 0.05). Compared with the subgroup with the lowest quartile of blood cadmium and recommended PA, the combination of the highest quartile of blood cadmium and without recommended PA was associated with the highest risks of all-cause and cancer mortality, followed by those meeting recommended PA but in the highest quartile of blood cadmium (hazard ratios, 2.43; 95 % confidence interval, 1.95-3.02). Achieving recommended PA significantly attenuated the detrimental effects of blood cadmium on all-cause, CVD, and cancer mortality risks.

Abstract
High-density lipoprotein (HDL) is associated with decreased incidence of cardiovascular events, and its functionality also influences prognosis. Exercise is an important tool to improve prognosis in the post-infarction (MI) population, but the role of exercise on HDL functionality is poorly understood. Sixty-two patients with acute MI were randomized in a supervised exercise program for 12-14 weeks (exercise group-EG) or a control group (CG). The main objective of the study was to analyze the role of exercise on esterified cholesterol (EC) and unesterified cholesterol (UC) transfer to HDL. For the total population, the baseline mean rate of EC transfer to HDL was 2.53 ± 0.83 and at the end of follow-up, it was 2.74 ± 0.64 (p = 0.03). The figures for UC were, respectively, 4.08 ± 1.2 and 4.4 ± 1.06 (p = 0.02). The difference (follow-up minus baseline) for EC was 0.15 ± 0.84 for the control group and 0.27 ± 0.69 for the exercise group (p = 0.53); for UC, the figures were 0.28 ± 1.14 and 0.35 ± 0.96 (p = 0.80), respectively, for the control and exercise groups. In post-MI patients, 12-14 weeks of supervised exercise did not improve HDL functionality.

Abstract
Introduction Fibromyalgia (FM) is a widespread chronic pain condition with prevalence increasing in older adults. Older adults living with FM experience longer pain symptom durations that can negatively impact their quality of life. Affect and neuroinflammation are potential factors that can exacerbate pain symptoms. Exercise is a recommended intervention to manage pain symptoms; however, adherence limitations persist. Drawing on the Biopsychosocial Framework of Chronic Pain, this scoping review explores how exercise impacts factors related to neuroinflammation and affect, and how these factors contribute to exercise adherence in older adults living with FM. Methods We conducted a scoping search of articles related to exercise and older adults living with FM published before 2024. The extracted study characteristics include publication type, study design, affect outcomes, neuroinflammation outcomes, exercise type, exercise adherence, and sample demographic information. Results We have provided an overview of the relationship between affect and neuroinflammation in studies including older adults living with FM and highlight the impact of exercise on affect and neuroinflammation in older adults living with FM. A conceptual framework is provided illustrating the reciprocal relationship between exercise, affective changes, neuroinflammation, and exercise adherence. Discussion Our results suggest that exercise may improve affect, while limited evidence suggests that aerobic and resistance exercise improve neuroinflammation. Finally, implications for importance and future directions in the context of potential biological factors impacted are provided.

Abstract
Ensuring sustainable management of water is an indispensable part of sustainable development, however, the limelight on long-term health risk of water hardness is essential but remains inadequate. This study estimated effects of water hardness on the brain system to refine its systemic risk assessment. We assembled a cohort of 397,265 participants from the UK Biobank to investigate the associations of water hardness with neurodegenerative diseases and brain imaging phenotypes through modeling. We found water hardness in 0-120 mg/L elevated the incidence risks of Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia compared to that in 120-300 mg/L, with hazard ratios of 1.13 (1.01, 1.27) and 1.24 (1.05, 1.46), respectively. Furthermore, the associations with partial cerebral atrophy were also observed, including the caudate nucleus and inferior parietal lobule. Our study provides insights into the importance of enacting more precise guidelines about water hardness and contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Abstract
Aging, a universal and inevitable process, is characterized by a progressive accumulation of physiological alterations and functional decline over time, leading to increased vulnerability to diseases and ultimately mortality as age advances. Lifestyle factors, notably physical activity (PA) and exercise, significantly modulate aging phenotypes. Physical activity and exercise can prevent or ameliorate lifestyle-related diseases, extend health span, enhance physical function, and reduce the burden of non-communicable chronic diseases including cardiometabolic disease, cancer, musculoskeletal and neurological conditions, and chronic respiratory diseases as well as premature mortality. Physical activity influences the cellular and molecular drivers of biological aging, slowing aging rates-a foundational aspect of geroscience. Thus, PA serves both as preventive medicine and therapeutic agent in pathological states. Sub-optimal PA levels correlate with increased disease prevalence in aging populations. Structured exercise prescriptions should therefore be customized and monitored like any other medical treatment, considering the dose-response relationships and specific adaptations necessary for intended outcomes. Current guidelines recommend a multifaceted exercise regimen that includes aerobic, resistance, balance, and flexibility training through structured and incidental (integrated lifestyle) activities. Tailored exercise programs have proven effective in helping older adults maintain their functional capacities, extending their health span, and enhancing their quality of life. Particularly important are anabolic exercises, such as Progressive resistance training (PRT), which are indispensable for maintaining or improving functional capacity in older adults, particularly those with frailty, sarcopenia or osteoporosis, or those hospitalized or in residential aged care. Multicomponent exercise interventions that include cognitive tasks significantly enhance the hallmarks of frailty (low body mass, strength, mobility, PA level, and energy) and cognitive function, thus preventing falls and optimizing functional capacity during aging. Importantly, PA/exercise displays dose-response characteristics and varies between individuals, necessitating personalized modalities tailored to specific medical conditions. Precision in exercise prescriptions remains a significant area of further research, given the global impact of aging and broad effects of PA. Economic analyses underscore the cost benefits of exercise programs, justifying broader integration into health care for older adults. However, despite these benefits, exercise is far from fully integrated into medical practice for older people. Many healthcare professionals, including geriatricians, need more training to incorporate exercise directly into patient care, whether in settings including hospitals, outpatient clinics, or residential care. Education about the use of exercise as isolated or adjunctive treatment for geriatric syndromes and chronic diseases would do much to ease the problems of polypharmacy and widespread prescription of potentially inappropriate medications. This intersection of prescriptive practices and PA/exercise offers a promising approach to enhance the well-being of older adults. An integrated strategy that combines exercise prescriptions with pharmacotherapy would optimize the vitality and functional independence of older people whilst minimizing adverse drug reactions. This consensus provides the rationale for the integration of PA into health promotion, disease prevention, and management strategies for older adults. Guidelines are included for specific modalities and dosages of exercise with proven efficacy in randomized controlled trials. Descriptions of the beneficial physiological changes, attenuation of aging phenotypes, and role of exercise in chronic disease and disability management in older adults are provided. The use of exercise in cardiometabolic disease, cancer, musculoskeletal conditions, frailty, sarcopenia, and neuropsychological health is emphasized. Recommendations to bridge existing knowledge and implementation gaps and fully integrate PA into the mainstream of geriatric care are provided. Particular attention is paid to the need for personalized medicine as it applies to exercise and geroscience, given the inter-individual variability in adaptation to exercise demonstrated in older adult cohorts. Overall, this consensus provides a foundation for applying and extending the current knowledge base of exercise as medicine for an aging population to optimize health span and quality of life.

Abstract
People with HIV (PWH) are living longer and experiencing a greater burden of morbidity from non-AIDS-defining conditions. Chronically treated HIV disease is associated with ongoing systemic inflammation that contributes to the development of chronic conditions (eg, cardiovascular disease) and geriatric syndromes (eg, frailty). Apart from HIV disease, a progressive increase in systemic inflammation is a characteristic feature of biologic aging, a process described as "inflammaging." Inflamm-aging is driven by persistent antigen stimulation and stress, leading to an immune profile characterized by elevated levels of blood inflammatory markers and cellular activation and senescence. Chronic HIV disease is hypothesized to accentuate the immune profile of inflamm-aging, in part through viral persistence in lymphatic tissues, permanent injury impairing immune recovery, the presence of copathogens, gut dysbiosis and microbial translocation, and chromosomal and genetic alterations associated with immune activation. Few strategies exist for safe and effective modulation of systemic inflammation among older PWH. The strongest current evidence supports aggressive management of modifiable risk factors such as lipids, blood pressure, and levels of physical activity. Future inflamm-aging research should be directed toward advancing the implementation of proven approaches, such as physical activity, as well as studying novel mechanisms of, and treatments for, inflamm-aging among PWH.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) is associated with a reduced risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but the optimal accumulation patterns are unclear. We aimed to investigate the associations between accelerometer-measured bouted and sporadic MVPA and incident COPD in the UK Biobank. STUDY DESIGN Prospective cohort study. METHODS We included 94161 COPD-free participants (median age of 61.74 years at baseline) from the UK Biobank who wore a wrist accelerometer. A random forest classifier was used to differentiate sporadic and bouted MVPA. Multivariable Cox proportional hazard models and restricted cubic splines were used to examine the MVPA-COPD associations. RESULTS During a median follow-up of 7.95 years, 1380 incident COPD cases were identified. Bouted MVPA was inversely associated with COPD incidence in an L-shaped manner, with hazard ratios of 0.62 (95 % CI: 0.52-0.75) for intermediate vs lowest quintile and 0.43 (95 % CI: 0.34-0.55) for highest vs lowest quintile. In those with insufficient bouted MVPA, sporadic MVPA had a U-shaped association with incident COPD, with hazard ratios of 0.82 (95 %: CI: 0.67-0.99) for intermediate vs lowest quintile and 1.11 (95 % CI: 0.88-1.39) for highest vs lowest quintile. CONCLUSIONS Bouted MVPA is a key factor in reducing COPD incidence, while modest sporadic MVPA may offer protection when bouted MVPA is insufficient.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Menopause represents a pivotal physiological transition characterized by hormonal fluctuations and an augmented susceptibility to chronic diseases. The relationship between menopause and heightened disease risk may be attributed in part to alterations in low-grade chronic inflammation and adiposity. METHODS Three databases were searched for studies assessing differences in inflammation and body adiposity between pre- and postmenopausal women. Meta-analysis examined the association between menopausal status and key inflammatory biomarkers, including leptin, adiponectin, interleukin-6, tumour necrosis factor-α and c-reactive protein, and indices of body adiposity (fat mass, waist circumference, waist-to-hip-ratio and body mass index). The National Institute of Health Quality Assessment Tool for Observational and Cross-sectional studies was used to evaluate quality of studies, and GRADE-assessed evidence certainty. RESULTS Levels of adiponectin and leptin were higher in postmenopausal women than in premenopausal women [(1.30 μg/ml, 95 % CI; 0.56 to 2.03 μg/ml, p = 0.001), (0.88 ng/ml; 95 % CI: 0.22 to 1.52; p = 0.008)]. A trend towards significance was observed for tumour necrosis factor-α (0.59 pg/ml, 95 % CI; -0.07 to 1.26 pg/ml, p = 0.080), with no significant differences in interleukin-6 and c-reactive protein [(0.83 pg/ml, 95 % CI; -0.24 to 1.91 pg/ml, p = 0.128), (0.06 mg/ml, 95 % CI; -0.17 to 0.29, p = 0.606)]. Postmenopausal women had greater waist circumference, waist-to-hip-ratio and body mass index than premenopausal women [(0.74 cm; 95 % CI: 1.02 to 0.47; p ≤0.001), (0.78; 95 % CI: 1.47 to -0.09; p = 0.027), (0.31 kg/m2; 95 % CI: 0.50 to 0.12; p = 0.001)]. CONCLUSIONS Postmenopausal women had higher adipokine levels and greater adiposity. However, given the low certainty of the available evidence, future prospective cohort studies assessing inflammatory changes over the menopausal transition are warranted to inform future clinical decisions. Abstract
BACKGROUND Physical activity can improve cognition; however, little is known regarding the relationships between longitudinal objectively measured physical activity, cognition, and inflammation in older breast cancer survivors. METHODS Older (aged 60 years and older) breast cancer survivors (n = 216) and frequency-matched noncancer control participants (n = 216) were assessed at baseline (presystemic therapy for survivors) and annually for up to 5 years. Assessments included hip-worn actigraphs worn for 7 days, neuropsychological tests, the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Cognitive Function perceived cognitive impairment subscale, and circulating levels of C-reactive protein and interleukin-6. Data were analyzed using linear mixed-effect, random-effect contemporaneous fluctuation, and multilevel mediation models, considering covariates; a P value less than .05 (2-sided) was considered statistically significant. RESULTS Survivors had fewer minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity than controls at 36-, 48-, and 60-month time points (P < .03). Fewer survivors met aerobic physical activity guidelines at 36 months than control participants (17.7% vs 33.0%, P = .030). When guidelines were met (vs not), Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Cognitive Function perceived cognitive impairment scores were 2.1 (1.0) (P = .034) points higher. Higher moderate-to-vigorous physical activity and meeting aerobic guidelines were not related to objective neuropsychological performance. Moderate-to-vigorous physical activity was inversely associated with C-reactive protein and interleukin-6 (P < .001), but inflammation did not mediate physical activity effects on perceived cognition. CONCLUSIONS Older breast cancer survivors were less physically active than older noncancer controls, especially farther from baseline. Meeting aerobic guidelines was associated with better perceived cognition in survivors. Survivorship care should consider physical activity monitoring and referral to rehabilitation and supervised exercise programs to promote physical activity and improve recovery in older survivors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The therapeutic effects of exercise have prompted calls for it to be embedded into standard asthma care, but evidence informing the optimal exercise intensity is lacking. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to compare the effects of moderate- and vigorous-intensity aerobic exercise training on asthma outcomes and inflammation. METHODS This was a 12-week randomized controlled trial in 46 adults with asthma randomized to either (1) 45-minute moderate-intensity exercise training 3 times/wk, (2) 30-minute vigorous-intensity exercise training 3 times/wk, or (3) the control group. Asthma-related quality of life (AQLQ), asthma control (ACQ), cardiorespiratory fitness, body composition, and airway and systemic inflammation were assessed before and after the intervention. RESULTS Forty-one participants completed the study (89% retention). The moderate-intensity group had a statistically and clinically significant improvement in AQLQ (0.63 [0.33-0.93], P < .001) and ACQ (-0.51 [-0.83 to -0.19], P = .003) relative to control. The vigorous-intensity group had a statistically, but not clinically, significant improvement in AQLQ (0.46 [0.14-0.80], P = .007) and ACQ (-0.36 [-0.69 to -0.02], P = .040) relative to control. After moderate-intensity training, there was a reduction in sputum macrophage (-1341 [-2491 to -191] × 104/mL, P = .024) and lymphocyte (-114 [-220 to -8] × 104/mL, P = .036) counts relative to control. A reduction in android fat mass, but not a change in fitness, was associated with improved AQLQ (rs = -0.341, P = .030) and reduced sputum IL-6 (rs = 0.422, P = .013). CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest that both moderate-intensity and vigorous-intensity aerobic exercise training are associated with improvements in clinical asthma outcomes and, therefore, both intensities could be recommended as an adjuvant asthma therapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The number of frail older people is increasing worldwide, and all countries will be confronted with their growing needs for healthcare and social support. The aim of this umbrella review was to summarize the evidence on the factors associated with frailty in older people, using a socioecological approach. METHODS PubMed (MEDLINE), Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, Hinari (research4life), and the Trip database were systematically searched up to April 2023. Systematic reviews of observational studies that explored factors associated with frailty in older adults aged 60 years and over were considered for inclusion. No language, geographical or setting restrictions were applied. However, we excluded systematic reviews that investigated frailty factors in the context of specific diseases. The Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklist for Systematic Reviews and Research Syntheses and the ROBIS tool were used to assess the quality and risk of bias in the included studies. RESULTS Forty-four systematic reviews were included, covering 1,150 primary studies with approximately 2,687,911 participants overall. Several risk factors, protective factors and biomarkers were found to be associated with frailty, especially in community-dwelling older people, including 67 significant associations from meta-analyses. The certainty of the evidence was rated as moderate or reached moderate levels for seven factors relevant to older people. These factors include depression (OR 4.66, 95% CI 4.07 to 5.34), loneliness (OR 3.51, 95% CI 2.70 to 4.56), limitations in activities of daily living (OR 2.59, 95% CI 1.71 to 3.48), risk of malnutrition (OR 3.52, 95% CI 2.96 to 4.17), Dietary Inflammatory Index score (OR 1.24, 95% CI 1.16 to 1.33), maximal walking speed (Standardized Mean Difference (SMD) -0.97, 95% CI -1.25 to -0.68), and self-reported masticatory dysfunction (OR 1.83, 95% CI 1.55 to 2.18). Additionally, only greater adherence to a Mediterranean diet showed a high level of evidence (OR 0.44, 95% CI 0.31 to 0.64). CONCLUSIONS This umbrella review will provide guidance for prevention strategies and clinical practice by promoting healthy lifestyles and addressing all modifiable risk factors associated with frailty. Future systematic reviews should consider heterogeneity and publication bias, as these were the main reasons for downgrading the level of evidence in our review. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Aerobic exercise training may reduce systemic inflammation, but the effects of this on systemic inflammatory markers in adult tobacco smokers has not been systematically reviewed. Therefore, we evaluated the effects of aerobic exercise training on C-reactive protein (CRP) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in adult tobacco smokers using a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. METHODS A comprehensive literature search was carried out using PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, EMBASE, Google Scholar, and hand search of bibliographies of the retrieved English or Persian articles up to August 2023. This review only included randomized controlled trials which investigated the effect of aerobic exercise training on CRP and TNF-α in adult smokers, based on a predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. RESULTS A total of 1641 articles were identified. Six studies were included in the review and four evaluated CRP and two evaluated TNF-α in only males. The meta-analysis demonstrated that aerobic exercise training significantly decreased TNF-α concentrations in males (MD = -6.68, 95 % CI = -13.90 to -0.54, P = 0.05). CRP concentrations did not decrease significantly when the data from the four studies were pooled (MD = -0.17, 95 % CI = -0.37 to 0.03, P = 0.09). CONCLUSION Aerobic exercise training may reduce the concentration of TNF-α in male smokers, but it does not have a significant effect on CRP concentrations. However, these findings are based upon a small number of studies, that enrolled either exclusively male or female participants, and further investigation is necessary to increase statistical inference.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Limited data exist on the association between physical activity (PA) and depression in older adults from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). In this study, we examine the association between meeting the World Health Organization (WHO) PA guidelines and depression in adults aged ≥50 years in Ghana and investigate the psychosomatic factors explaining this association. METHODS Cross-sectional data from the Aging, Health, Psychological Well-being, and Health-seeking Behavior Study in Ghana (2016-18) were analyzed. Depression was assessed with the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D-10). PA was assessed using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form (IPAQ-SF). Multivariable logistic regression and Hayes PROCESS macro with bootstrapping mediation analyses were performed to evaluate the hypothesized associations. RESULTS The study included 1201 individuals (mean [SD] age 66.1 [11.9] years; 63.3% women). The prevalence of meeting PA guidelines and depression was 36.7% and 29.5%, respectively. Meeting the WHO-recommended PA guidelines was associated with a 16% lower rate of developing depression even after adjusting for potential confounders (OR = 0.84, p <0.001). This association was much stronger among men and those aged 50-64 years. Loneliness, social isolation, sleep problems, functional limitations, and pain characteristics largely mediated the association of PA with depression. CONCLUSIONS PA was negatively associated with depression among older adults in Ghana, and psychosocial and physical factors partially explained the association. The promotion of PA in old age may aid in the prevention of depression, especially in men and those aged 50-64 years. Longitudinal data may confirm our findings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Inflammation could be related to cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI) and might be used as a predictive marker of long-term CRCI. We evaluated associations between inflammatory markers assessed at diagnosis of breast cancer and CRCI two years afterwards. METHODS Newly diagnosed stage I-III patients with breast cancer from the French CANTO-Cog (Cognitive sub-study of CANTO, NCT01993498) were included at diagnosis (baseline). Serum inflammatory markers (IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, TNFα, CRP) were assessed at baseline. Outcomes at year 2 post-baseline included overall cognitive impairment (≥ 2 impaired domains) and the following domains: episodic memory, working memory, attention, processing speed, and executive functions. Multivariable logistic regression models evaluated associations between markers and outcomes, controlling for age, education, and baseline cognitive impairment. RESULTS Among 200 patients, the mean age was 54 ± 11 years, with 127 (64%) receiving chemotherapy. Fifty-three (27%) patients had overall cognitive impairment at both timepoints. Overall cognitive impairment at year 2 was associated with high (> 3 mg/L) baseline CRP (OR = 2.84, 95%CI: 1.06-7.64, p = 0.037). In addition, associations were found between high CRP and processing speed impairment (OR = 2.47, 95%CI:1.05-5.87, p = 0.039), and between high IL-6 and episodic memory impairment (OR = 5.50, 95%CI:1.43-36.6, p = 0.010). CONCLUSIONS In this cohort, high levels of CRP and IL-6 assessed at diagnosis were associated with overall CRCI, processing speed and episodic memory impairments two years later. These findings suggest a potential inflammatory basis for long-term CRCI. CRP may represent an easily measurable marker in clinical settings and be potentially used to screen patients at greater risk of persistent CRCI.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study evaluated the methodological quality of published systematic reviews on randomized and non-randomized clinical trials to synthesize evidence on the association between IL-6, immunosenescence, and aerobic and/or resistance exercise. METHOD The Preferred Reporting Items for Overviews of Systematic Reviews (PRIO-harms) guideline was used, with registration number CRD42022346142-PROSPERO. Relevant databases such as Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar were searched using English Medical Subject Headings terms. Inclusion criteria were systematic reviews analyzing aerobic exercise, resistance exercise, or a combination of both and assessing IL-6 as a biomarker of cellular immunosenescence in humans. The Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews 2 (AMSTAR-2) was employed. RESULTS Out of 742 identified articles, 18 were eligible, and 13 were selected for analysis. Sample sizes ranged from 249 to 1421 participants, mostly female, with ages ranging from 17 to 95 years. Aerobic exercise was the most studied type (46.15%), followed by combined exercise (38.46%) and resistance exercise (15.38%). Aerobic exercise showed a statistically significant reduction in IL-6, C-reactive protein (CRP), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) levels. Among the 13 reviews analyzed using AMSTAR-2, 8 were rated as critically low quality, and 5 were classified as low quality. CONCLUSION Aerobic exercise has anti-inflammatory properties and the potential to modulate IL-6, CRP, and TNF-α levels in immunosenescence. However, the limited methodological quality of the analyzed systematic reviews highlights the urgent need for robust, high-quality studies to improve access to information and facilitate evidence-based decision-making in healthcare.

Abstract
Mental health responses to the COVID-19 pandemic have been widely studied, but less is known about the potentially protective role of physical activity (PA) and the impact of low-grade inflammation. Using a sample of older adults from England, this study tested (1) if pre-pandemic PA and its changes during the pandemic were associated with mental health responses; (2) if older adults with low-grade inflammation experienced greater increases in depression and anxiety, compared to pre-pandemic levels; (3) if PA attenuated the association between inflammation and depression/anxiety. The study used data from the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing, a cohort study following a national sample aged 50+. Information on mental health and PA were collected before the pandemic (2016/17 and 2018/19) and during November and December 2020. Inflammation was ascertained using pre-pandemic C-reactive protein (CRP). Analyses were adjusted for sociodemographic and health-related factors and pre-pandemic mental health. Increasing PA from before to during the pandemic was linked to reduced odds of depression (OR = 0.955, 95%CI [0.937, 0.974]) and anxiety (OR = 0.954, 95%CI [0.927; 0.982]). Higher pre-pandemic PA was associated with reduced odds of depression (OR = 0.964, 95%CI [0.948, 0.981]) and anxiety (OR = 0.976, 95%CI [0.953, 1.000]), whereas elevated CRP was associated with 1.343 times higher odds of depression (95%CI [1.100, 1.641]). PA did not attenuate the inflammation-depression association. The findings suggest that PA may contribute to psychological resilience among older adults, independently of inflammation. Further research is needed to explore the psychobiological pathways underlying this protective mechanism.

Abstract
In aging, the organism is unable to counteract certain harmful influences over its lifetime which leads to progressive dysfunction and eventually death, thus delineating aging as one failed process of adaptation to a set of aging stimuli. A central problem in understanding aging is hence to explain why the organism cannot adapt to these aging stimuli. The adaptation-maladaptation theory of aging proposes that in aging adaptation processes such as adaptive transcription, epigenetic remodeling, and metabolic plasticity drive dysfunction themselves over time (maladaptation) and thereby cause aging-related disorders such as cancer and metabolic dysregulation. The central dilemma of aging is thus that the set of adaptation mechanisms that the body uses to deal with internal and external stressors acts as a stressor itself and cannot be effectively counteracted. The only available option for the organism to decrease maladaptation may be a program to progressively reduce the output of adaptive cascades (e.g., via genomic methylation) which then leads to reduced physiological adaptation capacity and syndromes like frailty, immunosenescence, and cognitive decline. The adaptation-maladaptation dilemma of aging entails that certain biological mechanisms can simultaneously protect against aging as well as drive aging. The key to longevity may lie in uncoupling adaptation from maladaptation.

Abstract
Walking is a fundamental physical activity with significant health implications. Backward gait training (BGT) has emerged as a novel approach with potential benefits, yet its effects in comparison to traditional forward gait training (FGT) remain uncertain. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effects of BGT on body composition, cardiopulmonary fitness, and inflammatory and metabolic markers in adults. A comprehensive search across electronic databases was conducted following the Preferred Publishing Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Randomized clinical trials (RCTs) comparing BGT with FGT in adults were included. Methodological quality was assessed using the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool. The certainty of evidence was evaluated using the Grading of Recommendation, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach. The analysis included a total of 379 male participants across the studies. The meta-analysis demonstrated significant changes in body composition and inflammatory marker outcomes, which included waist-to-height ratio (standardized mean difference [SMD]-1.18, 95% confidence interval [CI]-1.89-0.48, I2 = 83%, P < 0.01), body mass index (SMD-0.55, 95% CI-0.77-0.32, I2= 0%, P < 0.01), and C-reactive protein (SMD-0.98, 95% CI-1.28-0.70, I2= 0%, P < 0.01). In addition, the qualitative review revealed potential enhancements in cardiopulmonary fitness and metabolic markers following BGT. While the results suggest potential benefits of BGT on body composition and inflammatory markers, the evidence remains limited and heterogeneous. Further robust research with diverse populations, longer intervention periods, and comprehensive outcome assessments is essential to elucidate the true impact of BGT and its utility for promoting overall health and well-being in adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Calcium (Ca) is a nutritional factor that associated with dental caries. A recent study showed that in the case of adequate Ca intake, a higher level of physical activity may contribute to bone mass accumulation. However, the combined effect between Ca intake and physical activity on caries experience is unclear. Herein, we aimed to explore the above combined effect on dental caries in children and adolescents. METHODS Data of 5,917 children and adolescents were extracted from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) database in 2015-2020 in this cross-sectional study. The NHANES assessed the dietary Ca intake through the 24-hour dietary recalls, and the physical activity level was self-reported using the questionnaires. Also, the dental caries was diagnosed according to the Decayed, Missing and Filled Teeth/Surfaces (DMFT/S) index. Weighted univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were utilized to screen the covariates and to investigate the associations of dietary Ca intake and physical activity with dental caries, respectively, and assess the combined effect between dietary Ca intake and physical activity on dental caries. The evaluation indexes were odd ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Subgroup analyses of age, obesity, and total sugar intake were also performed. RESULTS Among the eligible participants, 2,687 had caries experience. After adjusting for the covariates, we found that children and adolescents who not reach the recommendation level of Ca intake combined with physical activity less than 7 time in 1 week seemed to have higher odds of dental caries [OR = 1.77, 95%CI: (1.38-2.27)], compared with those who reached the standards. In addition, this potential combined effect was also found in age < 12 years old [OR = 1.62, 95%CI: (1.23-2.14)], non-obesity [OR = 1.88, 95%CI: (1.49-2.35)], and total sugar intake (all P < 0.05) subgroups. CONCLUSIONS Ca intake and physical activity had a potential combined effect on dental caries in children and adolescents, but the causal relationships between them needed further clarification.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Frailty is a geriatric syndrome associated with negative health outcomes that represents a dynamic condition with a potential of reversibility after physical exercise interventions. Typically, inflammatory and senescence markers are increased in frail individuals. However, the impact that physical exercise exerts on inflammatory and senescence biomarkers remains unknown. We assessed the effect of physical intervention in old individuals and mice and determined the expression of inflammatory and senescence markers. METHODS Twelve elderly individuals were enrolled from a primary care setting to a 3-month intervention. Frailty was measured by SPPB and the expression of biomarkers by cytokine array and RT-qPCR. In addition, 12 aged C57BL/6 mice completed an intervention, and inflammation and senescence markers were studied. RESULTS The physical intervention improved the SPPB score, reducing frail and pre-frail individuals. This was correlated with a reduction in several pro-inflammatory biomarkers such as IL-6, CXCL-1, CXCL-10, IL-1β, IL-7, GM-CSF as well as p16INK4a and p21CIP1 senescence markers. Otherwise, the levels of anti-inflammatory biomarker IL-4 were significantly increased. Moreover, the physical intervention in mice also improved their functional capacity and restored the expression of inflammatory (Il-1β, Cxcl-10, Il-6, and Cxcl-1) and senescence (p21Cip1) markers. Additionally, PLSDA and ROC curve analysis revealed CXCL-10 and IL-1β to be the biomarkers of functional improvement in both cohorts. CONCLUSIONS Our results showed that a physical intervention improves physical frailty, and reverses inflammation and senescence biomarkers comprising CXCL-10 and IL-1β.

Abstract
Background Evidence is limited regarding the relationship among physical activity, anxiety, and oral health in Chinese university students. This cross-sectional investigation aimed to assess the potential relationship between physical activity, anxiety, and oral health conditions among university students in China. Methods An online questionnaire measuring physical activity, anxiety status, and oral health condition was completed by 1604 university students. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form (IPAQ-SF) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) were selected to evaluate physical activity and anxiety, respectively. Oral health condition was assessed through several self-reported variables, including self-reported toothache, gingival bleeding, frequency of tooth brushing, and use of dental floss. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to analyze the underlying relationship between outcome variables. The control variables included age, height, weight, gender, whether only one-child, education level, parental education level, smoking status, drinking habits, and length of sleep. Path analysis was conducted to disentangle the association between physical activity, anxiety, and oral health conditions. Results Among 1604 university students, 666 (41.5 %) were males and 938 (58.5 %) were females, with an average of 21.9 ± 2.8 years. Only 833 (51.9 %) reported sufficient physical activity, while 684 (42.6 %) of the subjects displayed varying degrees of anxiety. Self-reported gingival bleeding was associated with insufficient physical activity (OR = 1.25; 95%CI: 1.02-1.55), anxiety (OR = 0.45; 95%CI: 0.27-0.74), frequency of tooth brushing (OR = 0.75; 95%CI: 0.60-0.95) and use of dental floss (OR = 0.75; 95%CI: 0.59-0.96), while toothache was not directly influenced by the physical activity and anxiety among university students. Anxiety markedly mediated the relationship between physical activity and oral health conditions. Conclusions Anxiety was considered a factor associated with the level of physical activity, tooth brushing habits, and self-reported gingival bleeding among university students. Further investigations are required to elucidate whether oral health conditions could be enhanced through the improvement of anxiety and physical activity.

Effect of high-intensity interval training in physiotherapy primary care for patients with inflammatory arthritis: the ExeHeart randomised controlled trial. RMD Open 2024; 10:e003440. Abstract
OBJECTIVES To assess the effect of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) delivered in physiotherapy primary care on the primary outcome of cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) in patients with inflammatory arthritis (IA). Additionally, to explore the effects of HIIT on secondary outcomes, including cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors and disease activity. METHODS Single-blinded randomised controlled trial with 60 patients randomly assigned to either a control group receiving usual care or an exercise group receiving usual care and 12 weeks of individualised HIIT at 90%-95% peak heart rate. Outcomes were assessed at baseline, 3 months and 6 months post baseline and included CRF measured as peak oxygen uptake (VO2peak), classic CVD risk factors, disease activity, anthropometry and patient-reported physical activity, pain, fatigue, disease impact and exercise beliefs and self-efficacy. RESULTS Intention-to-treat analysis demonstrated a significant between-group difference in VO2peak at 3 months (2.5 mL/kg/min, 95% CI 0.9 to 4.0) and 6 months (2.6 mL/kg/min, 95% CI 0.8 to 4.3) in favour of the exercise group. A beneficial change in self-reported physical activity in favour of the exercise group was observed at 3 and 6 months. The HIIT intervention was well-tolerated with minimal adverse events and no apparent impact on disease activity. Differences in secondary outcomes related to CVD risk factors, disease impact, pain, fatigue and exercise beliefs and self-efficacy were generally small and non-significant. CONCLUSION After 12 weeks of supervised HIIT delivered in physiotherapy primary care, patients with IA demonstrated a favourable improvement in CRF, with sustained effects at 6-month follow-up. Abstract
Cardiovascular (CV) diseases remain a global health challenge, with ischemic heart disease (IHD) being the primary cause of both morbidity and mortality. Despite optimal pharmacological therapy, older patients with IHD exhibit an increased susceptibility to recurrent ischemic events, significantly impacting their prognosis. Inflammation is intricately linked with the aging process and plays a pivotal role in the evolution of atherosclerosis. Emerging anti-inflammatory therapies have shown promise in reducing ischemic events among high-risk populations. This review aims to explore the potential of targeted anti-inflammatory interventions in improving clinical outcomes and the quality of life for older patients with IHD.

Abstract
COVID-19 is still a world disaster; however, its vaccination is globally available. Liver and gastrointestinal disturbances occur in patients infected with COVID-19 at varying incidences. Aging decreases the functions of the liver. Thus, the elderly have a weaker response to the COVID-19 virus. The COVID-19 virus affects the liver directly through direct and indirect mechanisms. It directly affects the renin-angiotensin system or indirectly causes sepsis, uncontrolled immune reactions, drug-related hepatic injury, and cytokine storm. Also, COVID-19 vaccines and anti-drugs have adverse effects on the liver too. Thus, this review explores the effect of enhancing aerobic capacity as a nonpharmacological intervention on decreasing COVID- 19-induced liver injury. Enhancing aerobic capacity decreases COVID-19-induced liver injury through the following: 1) downregulating systemic and tissue ACE/ANG II/AT1R axis, upregulating ACE2/ANG 1-7/Mas axis, and moving the renin-angiotensin system to the direction of the ACE2/ANG (1-7)/Mas axis, 2) Improving mitochondrial function and oxygenation to body and lung tissues, causing a decrease in harmful oxidative reactions, 3) Increasing the processing of accumulated free radicals and inhibiting the acute respiratory distress syndrome, 4) Acting as an antioxidant to protect the liver from oxidative stress, 5) Increasing the effect of antiviral drugs and COVID-19 vaccines, which improves the function of immune biomarkers, decreases the viral load, and increases the body's defense against the virus, 6) Decreasing coagulation abnormalities and thrombosis. In conclusion, enhancing aerobic capacity may be an efficient nonpharmacological intervention to decrease COVID-19-induced liver injury in elderlies and regenerate the liver to its normal status after being infected by the COVID-19 virus. It also helps to strengthen the body's immunity for better effects of both COVID-19 vaccination and drugs.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Physical activity (PA), regardless of domain, is recommended for pregnant individuals in clinical guidelines, but limited evidence is available for work-related PA. This study aimed to examine the associations of occupational (OPA) and leisure-time PA (LTPA) with plasma high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), a risk marker for adverse pregnancy outcomes, among pregnant individuals. METHODS This longitudinal study included 257 workers in the fetal growth cohort. OPA/LTPA and hs-CRP were measured in each trimester. OPA/LTPA was divided into high and low groups by the median level. Multivariable linear regressions were applied to estimate the adjusted geometric mean differences of hs-CRP (mg·L-1) comparing high versus low OPA/LTPA in each trimester and the changes in OPA/LTPA over pregnancy. RESULTS OPA was positively associated with hs-CRP (high: 5.14 vs low: 3.59; P value: 0.001) in the first trimester, particularly for standing/walking or walking fast, regardless of carrying things. LTPA was negatively associated with hs-CRP in the second (high: 3.93 vs low: 5.08; 0.02) and third trimesters (high: 3.30 vs low: 4.40; 0.046). Compared with the low OPA + high LTPA group, hs-CRP was higher in both the high OPA + high LTPA and high OPA + low LTPA groups in the first trimester, and in the high OPA + low LTPA group only in the third trimester. The change in OPA during pregnancy was positively associated with hs-CRP, whereas the change in LTPA was negatively associated with hs-CRP from the second to the third trimester. CONCLUSIONS In pregnant individuals, LTPA was negatively associated with hs-CRP, whereas OPA was positively associated with hs-CRP. More research on OPA's health impact among pregnant individuals is needed, and guidelines may consider the potential unfavorable influence of OPA on pregnant individuals.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Physical therapy (PT) has an important role in Integrative Oncology programs, addressing the unique physical health needs of individuals with cancer through exercise counseling. We share our experience with the PT component of our telehealth comprehensive lifestyle modification program including data from our first cohort of patients. METHODS The PT component of our lifestyle modification program included 6 one-hour synchronous video sessions (30 minutes exercise education, 30 minutes exercise) over the 12-week program. Participants received handouts electronically that included information regarding each week's exercise-related topic, as well as weekly exercise assignments. Outcomes included weight, days of aerobic exercise, minutes of aerobic exercise, and days of strengthening exercise. Six patients completed the program and submitted an anonymous exit survey providing qualitative feedback on the program. RESULTS On average, patients reported engaging in aerobic exercise 4 days per week and strength training 2 days per week after the intervention. There were notable increases in days of strength training. Patients lost an average of 4.2% of their body weight over the course of the 12-week program. Qualitative feedback showed that the first cohort of patients described the telehealth program as enjoyable, valuable, and convenient. DISCUSSION Physical therapy exercise programs can be modified and tailored for delivery in a telehealth environment. Increased patient access remains a strength of this model, serving to equip patients with the tools needed for increasing aerobic and strength training activity. Overall, the program was implemented successfully, and the anonymous feedback survey completed after program completion showed high patient satisfaction.

Abstract
Despite well-documented global declines in physical activity (PA) during the COVID-19 pandemic, little is known regarding the specific impact among underserved, rural Alabama counties. This is concerning as this region was already disproportionately burdened by inactivity and related chronic diseases and was among the hardest hit by COVID-19. Thus, the current study examined the effect of COVID-19 on PA in four rural Alabama counties. An ancillary survey was administered between March 2020 and August 2021 to the first cohort (N = 171) of participants enrolled in a larger PA trial. Main outcomes of this survey included the perceived impact of COVID-19 on PA, leisure-time PA, and social cognitive theory (SCT) constructs at 3 months. Almost half of the participants reported being less active during the pandemic (49.7%) and endorsed that COVID-19 made PA more difficult (47.4%), citing concerns such as getting sick from exercising outside of the home (70.4%) and discomfort wearing a face mask while exercising (58%). Perceived COVID-19 impact on PA was significantly associated with education, household dependents, and gender (p's < 0.05). More women, parents, and college graduates reported that the COVID-19 pandemic made PA more difficult. Overall, there were no significant associations between PA, SCT constructs, or perceived COVID-19 impact on PA scores at 3 months. While the pandemic made PA difficult for many participants, these barriers were not associated with leisure-time PA levels or related theoretical mechanisms of action, which bodes well for the success of our ongoing intervention efforts and the resiliency of these communities.

Abstract
Increased longevity is often associated with age-related conditions. The most common neurodegenerative disorders in the older population are Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD), associated with progressive neuronal loss leading to functional and cognitive impairments. Although symptomatic treatments are available, there is currently no cure for these conditions. Gut dysbiosis has been involved in the pathogenesis of AD and PD, thus interventions targeting the "gut-brain axis" could potentially prevent or delay these pathologies. Recent evidence suggests that the skeletal muscle and the gut microbiota can affect each other via the "gut-muscle axis". Importantly, cognitive functions in AD and PD patients significantly benefit from physical activity. In this review, we aim to provide a comprehensive picture of the crosstalk between the brain, the skeletal muscle and the gut microbiota, introducing the concept of "gut-muscle-brain axis". Moreover, we discuss human and animal studies exploring the modulatory role of exercise and probiotics on cognition in AD and PD. Collectively, the findings presented here support the potential benefits of physical activity and probiotic supplementation in AD and PD. Further studies will be needed to develop targeted and multimodal strategies, including lifestyle changes, to prevent or delay the course of these pathologies.

Abstract
Postmenopause, the secretion of female hormones changes, causing excessive fat accumulation in the body and leading to chronic inflammation, which increases the incidence of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Walking is an easily accessible daily exercise and effective non-pharmacological treatment for reducing obesity and the incidence of CVD. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of moderate intensity walking exercises on body composition, vascular inflammatory factors, and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in postmenopausal women with obesity. Twenty-six older postmenopausal women with obesity (ages 68-72) were randomly assigned to control (n = 12, BMI 26.06 ± 1.37) or exercise (n = 14, BMI 26.04 ± 1.94) groups. Following a 12-week moderate intensity walking exercise program, we measured the participants' body composition with an InBody S10 analyzer and assessed blood sera using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. There was a significant clustering by weight (p < 0.01), body mass index (p < 0.01), percentage body fat (p < 0.001), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (p < 0.05), interleukin-6, and tumor necrosis factor-α (p < 0.05) being significantly decreased in the exercise group. Although VEGF levels did not change significantly, a tendency to increase was observed in participants that exercised. Our results indicate that walking exercise may help prevent CVD in postmenopausal women with obesity by reducing obesity and vascular inflammatory factors.

Abstract
The present systematic review aimed to discuss the impacts of different triathlon protocols on the level of pro and anti-inflammatory cytokines, as well as biomarkers related to the performance of healthy individuals. Four databases [PubMed (28 articles), Scopus (24 articles), Science Direct (200 articles), and SPORT Discus (1101 articles) were assessed. The eligibility criteria were applied, and the selected articles were used in the peer review, independently, as they were identified by March 2022. Of the 1359 articles found, 10 were included in this systematic review. Despite the difference in triathlon protocols, it was observed an increase in pro and anti-inflammatory cytokines including IL-4 and IL-10, and chemokines, such as IL-8 and MCP-1. Moreover, the anti-inflammatory serum levels increase after triathlon. Overall, the studies also reported enhancement in the serum levels of cortisol, creatine kinase, C reactive protein, Endothelial Growth Factor, Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor, Myostatin, Lactate dehydrogenase, free fatty acids, and lactate dehydrogenase in triathlon athletes. This systematic review indicates that different triathlon race promotes an acute elevation of circulating cytokines and chemokines levels which return to standard levels after triathlon races. The findings of this systematic review demonstrate that the modulation of inflammatory parameters may be associated with an increase in metabolic indicators (CK, Cortisol, and LDH) after the end of different types of triathlon races.

Abstract
Lipocalin-2 (LCN2) is released by several cell types including osteoblasts and adipocytes and has been suggested as a marker of renal dysfunction, metabolic syndrome (MetS) and type 2 diabetes (T2D). Whether LCN2 is linked to these diseases in older women remains unknown. This study investigated whether LCN2 is related to features of MetS and T2D in older women. This cross-sectional study included 705 non-diabetic women (mean age 75.1 ± 2.6 years) for MetS analysis and 76 women (mean age 75.4 ± 2.8 years) with T2D. Total circulating LCN2 levels were analysed using a two-step chemiluminescent microparticle monoclonal immunoassay. MetS was determined by a modified National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III classification. Multivariable-adjusted logistic regression analysis was used to assess odds ratios between LCN2 quartiles and MetS. Women in the highest LCN2 quartile had approximately 3 times greater risk for MetS compared to women in the lowest quartile (OR 3.05; 95%CI 1.86-5.02). Women with T2D or MetS scores of ≥ 3 had higher LCN2 levels compared to women with a MetS score of 0 (p < 0.05). Higher LCN2 correlated with higher body mass index, fat mass, triglycerides and glycated haemoglobin and lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and estimated glomerular filtration rate (p < 0.05). Higher circulating levels of LCN2 are associated with worsened cardio-metabolic risk factors and increased odds of MetS and T2D in older women. Whether it can be used as a biomarker for identifying those at risk for MetS and T2D should be explored further.

Abstract
This study aimed to clarify the factors associated with low albumin in Japanese older adults aged ≥75 years. The data utilized were the health checkup data of older adults aged ≥75 years from 42 municipalities in Gifu Prefecture, which were provided by the National Health Insurance database system. After excluding the data of individuals with incomplete information on serum albumin, BMI, lifestyle habits, or weight at previous year, the data from 18,674 individuals' health checkup were analyzed. A logistic regression showed that low albumin was associated with smoking, not walking at least 1 h/day, slow walking speed, difficulty in chewing, slow eating speed, weight loss in the previous year, and underweight. Furthermore, an analysis conducted for older adults aged ≥85 years showed that low albumin was associated with not walking at least 1 h/day, difficulty in chewing, slow eating speed, weight loss in the previous year, and underweight. In the future, the number of older adults will increase in Japan; therefore, a strategic approach to promote the health of these aged individuals will become even more necessary. An early approach to maintaining an active physical life, an appropriate weight, and good oral function will lead to improved health in older adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Early studies of common mental disorders (CMDs) during the COVID-19 pandemic mainly report increases; however, more recent findings have been mixed. Also, studies assessing the effects of restriction measures on CMDs show varied results. The aim of this meta-analysis was to assess changes in levels of CMDs from pre-/early to during the pandemic and the effects of restriction policies in the European population. METHODS We searched for studies assessing both pre-pandemic and peri-pandemic self-reported emotional distress and symptoms of depression or anxiety among nationally/regionally representative samples in Europe and collected microdata from those studies. Estimates of corona containment index were related to changes in CMDs using random-effects meta-regression. RESULTS Our search strategy resulted in findings from 15 datasets drawn from 8 European countries being included in the meta-analysis. There was no evidence of change in the prevalence of emotional distress, anxiety, or depression from before to during the pandemic; but from early pandemic periods to later periods, there were significant decreases in emotional distress and anxiety. Increased school restrictions and social distancing were associated with small increases in self-reported emotional distress. CONCLUSIONS Despite initial concerns of increased emotional distress and mental illness due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the results from this meta-analysis indicate that there was a decrease in emotional distress and no change in anxiety or depression in the general population in Europe. Overall, our findings support the importance of strong governance when implementing periodic and robust restriction measures to combat the spread of COVID-19.

Abstract
CONTEXT Elevated serum concentrations of chemerin is a significant factor in the development of metabolic disorders. OBJECTIVE This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the influence of exercise training on serum concentrations of chemerin in patients with metabolic diseases. METHODS Thirteen studies including 463 participants were included and analysed using a random-effects model to calculate weighted mean differences with 95% confidence intervals. RESULTS Results indicated that exercise training significantly decreased serum concentrations of chemerin in patients with metabolic diseases when compared with controls. Subgroup analysis showed that exercise training resulted in decreases in serum concentrations of chemerin in men, however, this was not significant in women. Moreover, subgroup analyses based on the type of exercise did not reveal differential effects on serum concentrations of chemerin. CONCLUSION Exercise training may produce improvements in serum concentrations of chemerin in patients with metabolic diseases. Further longer-term studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Abstract
Introduction Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs), the most common causes of work-related pain, suffering, absenteeism, and disability, are a major health concern for rubber farmers. WMSDs are persistent and frequently recur, resulting in increased health burdens for workers. Fortunately, appropriate intervention may relieve discomfort. Specified interventions have been recommended to reduce incidences of WMSD. Objective This study aimed to develop and evaluate the efficacy of a personalised self-care programme (PSCP) for relieving pain caused by WMSDs among rubber farmers. Methods Demographic data and details concerning the prevalence of pain regions were collected using a questionnaire adapted from the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (IOC 1.00). The evidence gained from modified questionnaires and special tests was used to develop the PSCP. The PSCP was verified by three experts (IOC 1.00). Based on the questionnaires, only participants with a pain score of 3 or higher were recruited for the study. The PSCP's efficacy was evaluated by comparing the results before application and after 28 days. A numerical rating scale was employed to estimate the degree of pain. The pathogeneses of WMSDs were confirmed with a special test performed by a physical therapist. Additionally, the levels of interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-10 were measured to determine the PSCP's effect on inflammatory molecules. The efficacy of the PSCP was analysed using a paired t-test. Results The results showed that farmers experienced the greatest discomfort in the lower back, followed by the shoulders, legs, and neck. Therefore, this PSCP was designed to alleviate work-related musculoskeletal pain in these body regions. A reduction in pain by two degrees was observed after 28 days of the PSCP (x ‾ before = 5.26, SD = 1.96, x ‾ after = 2.40, SD = 1.64, p < 0.001). Special tests confirmed that the number of pain regions were also decreased (x ‾ before = 0.089, SD = 0.067, x ‾ after = 0.016, SD = 0.030, p < 0.001). In addition, IL-10 levels increased (p ≤ 0.001) following the PSCP, whereas IL-6 levels remained unaltered. Conclusions After 28 days of use, the PSCP was effective at reducing pain levels, decreasing pain regions, and promoting the production of anti-inflammatory molecules. This finding demonstrates that the PSCP could help alleviate work-related musculoskeletal pain among rubber farmers. The PSCP may be an appropriate intervention for alleviating pain.

Abstract
Insights related to the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis (OA) have informed rehabilitative treatments that aim to mitigate the influence of several known impairments and risk factors for OA, with the goal to improve pain, function, and quality of life. The purpose of this invited narrative review is to provide fundamental knowledge to non-specialists about exercise and education, diet, biomechanical interventions, and other physical therapist-delivered treatments. In addition to summarizing the rationale for common rehabilitative therapies, we provide a synthesis of current core recommendations. Robust evidence based on randomized clinical trials supports exercise with education and diet as core treatments for OA. Structured, supervised exercise therapy is advised. The mode of exercise may vary but should be individualized. The dose should be based on an initial assessment, the desired physiological changes, and progressed when appropriate. Diet combined with exercise is strongly recommended and studies demonstrate a dose-response relationship between the magnitude of weight loss and symptom improvement. Recent evidence suggests the use of technology to remotely deliver exercise, diet and education interventions is cost-effective. Although several studies support the mechanisms for biomechanical interventions (e.g., bracing, shoe inserts) and physical therapist-delivered (passive) treatments (e.g., manual therapy, electrotherapeutic modalities) fewer rigorous randomized trials support their clinical use; these therapies are sometimes recommended as adjuncts to core treatments. The mechanisms of action for all rehabilitative interventions include contextual factors such as attention and placebo effects. These effects can challenge our interpretation of treatment efficacy from clinical trials, yet also provide opportunities to maximize patient outcomes in clinical practice. When evaluating rehabilitative interventions, the field may benefit from increased emphasis on research that considers contextual factors while evaluating mechanistic, longer-term, clinically-important and policy-relevant outcome measures.

Abstract
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a common cause of dementia characterized by neurodegenerative dysregulations, cognitive impairments, and neuropsychiatric symptoms. Physical exercise (PE) has emerged as a powerful tool for reducing chronic inflammation, improving overall health, and preventing cognitive decline. The connection between the immune system, gut microbiota (GM), and neuroinflammation highlights the role of the gut-brain axis in maintaining brain health and preventing neurodegenerative diseases. Neglected so far, PE has beneficial effects on microbial composition and diversity, thus providing the potential to alleviate neurological symptoms. There is bidirectional communication between the gut and muscle, with GM diversity modulation and short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production affecting muscle metabolism and preservation, and muscle activity/exercise in turn inducing significant changes in GM composition, functionality, diversity, and SCFA production. This gut-muscle and muscle-gut interplay can then modulate cognition. For instance, irisin, an exercise-induced myokine, promotes neuroplasticity and cognitive function through BDNF signaling. Irisin and muscle-generated BDNF may mediate the positive effects of physical activity against some aspects of AD pathophysiology through the interaction of exercise with the gut microbial ecosystem, neural plasticity, anti-inflammatory signaling pathways, and neurogenesis. Understanding gut-muscle-brain interconnections hold promise for developing strategies to promote brain health, fight age-associated cognitive decline, and improve muscle health and longevity.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Ageing can be accompanied by increased inflammation, which contributes to the development of sarcopenia. Exercise training could be effective for preventing sarcopenia and mitigate inflammation and thus a viable intervention in ageing. Therefore, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the effects of exercise training on markers of inflammation including interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and C-reactive protein (CRP) in older adults (≥65 years). Exercise-based interventions are most successful in preventing the decline in skeletal muscle mass and in preserving or ameliorating functional capacities with increasing age. METHOD PubMed and Web of Science were searched through to December 2021 using "exercise", "inflammatory markers", "elderly", and "randomized controlled trial" to identify randomized trials evaluating the effects of exercise training versus control groups on IL-6, TNF-α, and CRP in older adults with mean ages ≥ 65 yrs. Standardized mean differences (SMD) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were determined using random effects models. RESULTS Forty studies involving 49 trials and 1,898 older adults were included in the meta-analysis. Overall, exercise training reduced IL-6 [-0.17 (95% CI -0.32 to -0.02), p = 0.02], TNF-α [-0.30 (95% CI -0.46 to -0.13), p = 0.001], and CRP [-0.45 (95% CI -0.61 to -0.29), p = 0.001]. Subgroup analyses showed that IL-6 was reduced significantly by combined training, TNF-α by aerobic training, and CRP by aerobic, resistance, and combined training. In addition, exercise training reduced IL-6 and TNF-α in older adults with chronic diseases, and CRP in older adults with and without chronic diseases. CONCLUSION The current results highlight that exercise training, regardless of exercise type, has small to moderate beneficial effects on markers of inflammation in older adults, particularly in those with chronic diseases.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The aim of this study was to explore the associations among physical activity (PA), inflammatory markers, and quality of life (QoL) from preradiotherapy to 1-year postradiotherapy for patients with head and neck cancer (HNC). METHODS This was an observational longitudinal study. Mixed-effect models incorporating within-subject correlation were used to examine the relationship among the three key variables. RESULTS Aerobically active patients had significantly lower levels of sTNFR2 (but not other inflammatory markers) than aerobically inactive patients. Being aerobically active and lower inflammation were independently associated with better total QoL scores after adjusting covariates. The trend was similar for patients engaged in strength exercises. CONCLUSIONS Being aerobically active was associated with lower inflammation as represented by sTNFR2 but not with other inflammatory markers. Higher PA (aerobic and strength) and lower inflammation were linked to better QoL. More research is warranted to validate the association among PA, inflammation, and QoL.

Abstract
Post coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) syndrome is one of the causes of reduced functional capacity and work productivity, in particular for healthcare workers. The pathophysiology of the post COVID-19 syndrome is related to complex and multisystem inflammatory mechanisms, and cardiopulmonary exercise rehabilitation program is one of the efforts to improve the recovery process for patients with post COVID-19 syndrome. The aim of this study was to determine the correlation between the level of high sensitivity C-reactive protein (Hs-CRP) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) with functional capacity (VO2max) in individuals with post-COVID-19 syndrome who received moderate- and high-intensity supervised cardiopulmonary exercise. A prospective cohort study was conducted at the Integrated Cardiac Rehabilitation Center of Dr. Zainoel Abidin Hospital, Banda Aceh, Indonesia. The supervised cardiopulmonary exercise was conducted for six weeks according to the participant's baseline VO2max. Spearman's and Pearson's correlation tests were used to assess the correlations. A total of 30 individuals (19 and 11 had moderate and high intensity exercise, respectively) were involved in this study. At moderate intensity exercise, the average Hs-CRP and NLR were 3.3 mg/L and 1.99, respectively; while at high intensity, the values were 3.8 mg/L and 1.79, respectively. No significant correlation between Hs-CRP level and functional capacity in both moderate-intensity and high intensity groups. In contrast, NLR was negatively correlated with functional capacity (r=-0.545, p=0.016) in moderate intensity exercise group. In conclusion, NLR value was negatively correlated with functional capacity in individuals with post-COVID-19 syndrome after receiving moderate intensity supervised cardiopulmonary exercise program. Therefore, moderate intensity of cardiopulmonary exercise maybe be used as a program to accelerate the recovery for those with post COVID-19 syndrome.

Abstract
Little is known regarding associations between inflammatory biomarkers and objectively measured physical activity and sleep during and after chemotherapy for gynecologic cancer; thus, we conducted a longitudinal study to address this gap. Women with gynecologic cancer (patients) and non-cancer controls (controls) completed assessments before chemotherapy cycles 1, 3, and 6 (controls assessed contemporaneously), as well as at 6- and 12-month follow-ups. Physical activity and sleep were measured using wrist-worn actigraphs and sleep diaries, and blood was drawn to quantify circulating levels of inflammatory markers. Linear and quadratic random-effects mixed models and random-effects fluctuation mixed models were used to examine physical activity and sleep over time, as well as the associations with inflammatory biomarkers. On average, patients (n = 97) and controls (n = 104) were 62 and 58 years old, respectively. Compared to controls, patients were less active, more sedentary, had more time awake after sleep onset, and had lower sleep efficiency (p-values < 0.05). Across groups, higher levels of TNF-α were associated with more sedentary time and less efficient sleep (p-values ≤ 0.05). Higher levels of IL-1β, TNF-α, and IL-6 were associated with lower levels of light physical activity (p-values < 0.05). Associations between inflammatory biomarkers, physical activity, and sleep did not differ between patients and controls. Given these results, we speculate that inflammation may contribute to less physical activity and more sleep problems that persist even 12 months after completing chemotherapy.
