Abstract
Fish intake may constitute a significant route by which humans are exposed to metals, especially people who depend on fish as a source of protein as Alexandrians. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the metal contents in muscles in eight commonly consumed freshwater (Tilapia, Catfish, and Common Carp) and marine fish species (Emperors, Groupers, Mackerels, Silver Pomfret, and Roving Groupers) collected from the local markets located in Alexandria City for a 1-year calendar year, 2022. Seasonal variations in the levels of the tested metals in the fish species, with significant differences between the species, were recorded. Also, the levels of Cu, Zn, Fe, Co, and Cd in all the tested fish species collected during the experiment did not exceed the guideline limits, while Ni, Cr, and Pb in fish collected during October-May, June-September, and February-May 2022, respectively, exceeded the permissible limits settled by FAO and WHO. Additionally, Mackerels and Roving Groupers had high-level contents of Mn that exceeded the permissible limits settled by European Commission. The accumulation of these metals in muscles of different fish species had relative variation in the accumulation, and Cu was the most predominant element in Tilapia, Zn in Catfish, Roving Groupers, and Mackerels, Fe in Common Carp, Groupers, Emperors, and Silver Pomfret, and Co in Tilapia. Consumption of fish with a high Metal Pollution Index (MPI) value may pose a potential public health risk. On the meantime, the calculated values of estimated daily intakes (EDI), hazard index (HI), and target health quotient (THQ) indicated no potential health risk for Alexandrians via the consumption of these fish species because they did not exceed the World Health Organization's acceptable daily intake.

Abstract
Environmental contaminants may enter seafood products either through water and sediments or via feed and feed additives or may be introduced during fish processing and storage. The study focused on the nutritional and toxicological significance of heavy metals, antibiotics, and pesticide residues in 48 fish samples collected from the Kafr-ElSheikh governorate in Egypt. Various analytical instruments are used to determine and detect heavy metals, antibiotics, and pesticides. These include Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometer (LC-MS/MS), Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS), and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometer (GC-MS). The following metals were discovered in fish species: arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), cobalt (Co), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), mercury (Hg), manganese (Mn), and zinc (Zn). Each of these metals was detected 47 times. Chromium (Cr) was detected 40 times, nickel (Ni) was detected 27 times, and lead (Pb) was detected 6 times. The mean concentrations of As, Cd, Cr, Co, Cu, Fe, Ni, Mn, Hg, Pb, and Zn were determined to be 0.025, 0.02, 0.501, 0.50, 0.81, 12.56, 0.5, 0.689, 0.051, 0.031, and 5.78 mg/kg, respectively. All levels of cadmium, mercury, and lead detected in fish samples were significantly lower than the maximum permissible limits set by Egyptian and European standards. Furthermore, in this study, antibiotics and pesticide residues were found to be not detected in all analyzed fish samples. Based on the estimated daily intake and hazard quotient values, the concentration levels of metals found in fish samples seem to pose no significant threat to public health.

Abstract
Objective To provide the most recent national estimates for the consumption of aquatic products and meats among Chinese residents. Methods This study was conducted in 14 provinces of China, using a multi-stage stratified random cluster sampling method and a population-proportional sampling procedure. Aquatic products and meats consumption was measured by a 3-day, 24-h dietary recall. Chinese residents aged 3 years and above (n = 24,106) completed a face-to-face dietary interview. Results The average daily consumption of meat and aquatic products for the all-aged population was 70.9 g and 48.0 g, respectively, which aligned with Dietary Guidelines (40–75 g/d) for Chinese Residents (2016). On the one hand, intake of aquatic products among Chinese people was relatively insufficient, especially for adolescents and elder people (<40 g/d). On the other hand, males, mainly aged 19–60, generally consumed too much meat (>80 g/d), and 19–44 grouping consumed more than 70 g/d of red meat. Besides, urban residents and individuals with higher socioeconomic status (SES) have exhibited comprehensively healthy dietary preferences than rural ones and those with a lower SES do. Women and the higher SES group tend to be closer to the dietary guidelines for the Chinese. Conclusions The consumption of meat and aquatic products varied with age, gender, region and SES. Detecting patterns in consumption is particularly relevant for policy makers, researchers and health professionals in the formulation of dietary recommendations and estimating potential health outcomes.

Abstract
The abundant use of antibiotics leads to antibiotic residues in frequently consumed foods. Residual antibiotics in food may have adverse effects on humans by directly causing disease via low-dose exposure and indirect harm via antibiotic resistance. However, the current methods for antibiotic extraction and analysis in food have not yet formed a uniform standard, and only a few data exist regarding the residual antibiotic condition in various types of foods. Hence, we review the literature since 2008 to summarize analytical methods and residue status of antibiotics in food. Then, we discuss the causes of antibiotic residues in food and the possible hazards to human health. We hope that the joint efforts of the scientific community and political circles will lead to the formation of a unified standard for the extraction and analysis of antibiotics in food, to allow for comprehensive monitoring of residual antibiotics and ensure human health.

Abstract
The NOVA food categorisation recommends 'avoiding processed foods (PF), especially ultra-processed foods (UPF)' and selecting minimally PF to address obesity and chronic disease. However, NOVA categories are drawn using non-traditional views of food processing with additional criteria including a number of ingredients, added sugars, and additives. Comparison of NOVA's definition and categorisation of PF with codified and published ones shows limited congruence with respect to either definition or food placement into categories. While NOVA studies associate PF with decreased nutrient density, other classifications find nutrient-dense foods at all levels of processing. Analyses of food intake data using NOVA show UPF provide much added sugars. Since added sugars are one criterion for designation as UPF, such a proof demonstrates a tautology. Avoidance of foods deemed as UPF, such as wholegrain/enriched bread and cereals or flavoured milk, may not address obesity but could decrease intakes of folate, calcium and dietary fibre. Consumer understanding and implementation of NOVA have not been tested. Neither have outcomes been compared with vetted patterns, such as Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension, which base food selection on food groups and nutrient contribution. NOVA fails to demonstrate the criteria required for dietary guidance: understandability, affordability, workability and practicality. Consumers' confusion about definitions and food categorisations, inadequate cooking and meal planning skills and scarcity of resources (time, money), may impede adoption and success of NOVA. Research documenting that NOVA can be implemented by consumers and has nutrition and health outcomes equal to vetted patterns is needed.

Abstract
In this report, an overview of the health benefits of omega-3 long-chain (≥C20) polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 LC-PUFA) and recent progress in using alpha linolenic acid (ALA) rich sources derived from oilseeds to enhance productive performance, n-3 PUFA profiles and sensory properties of lamb for human consumption is reviewed. Omega-3 LC-PUFA can prevent mental health issues and chronic human disorders including cancer, cardiovascular and inflammatory diseases. The median amount of n-3 LC-PUFA consumption is generally lacking in Western diets. More attention is now being paid to the use of innovative nutritional strategies to improve PUFA content in ruminants, which could subsequently increase the content of health-benefitting n-3 LC-PUFA for human consumption. The richest sources of dietary n-3 LC-PUFA are derived from marine products, while forage and oilseeds such as flaxseed, canola, and their oils are abundant in ALA. Numerous studies have shown that dietary ALA increases n-3 LC-PUFA levels of edible tissues. However, other studies concluded that ALA rich supplementation led to no differences in tissue FA profiles because of extensive biohydrogenation of dietary ALA, limited conversion from ALA to n-3 LC-PUFA and low incorporation of n-3 LC-PUFA into edible tissues. Generally, the inclusion of ALA rich sources in lamb diets potentially increases ALA content in lamb. It is proposed that supplementing ruminants with ALA-rich sources at or below 6% can promote n-3 PUFA profiles in lamb and is unlikely to have negative effects on feed intake, growth, carcass and sensory properties.

Abstract
Maternal diet during pregnancy is relevant for fatty acid supply during fetal life and lactation. Arachidonic (AA) and docosahexaenoic (DHA) acids are also relevant for the normal growth and development of brain and visual system. AA and DHA provided by the mother to the fetus and infant are directly associated with maternal dietary intake and body stores. Our aim was to evaluate the impact of maternal diet, specially referring to the quality of fatty acid intake, in a sample of Chilean women during last stage of pregnancy and across the lactation period. Fifty healthy pregnant women (age range 20–33 years) were studied from the 6th month of pregnancy and followed until 6th month of lactation period. Diet characteristics were evaluated through food frequency questionnaires. Fatty acids composition of erythrocyte phospholipids and breast milk samples was assessed by gas-liquid chromatography. Overall, women had high saturated fatty acids intake with sufficient intake of mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). Diet was high in n-6 PUFA and low in n-3 PUFA (mainly DHA), with imbalanced n-6/n-3 PUFA ratio. Erythrocytes and breast milk DHA concentration was significantly reduced during lactation compared to pregnancy, a pattern not observed for AA. We concluded that is necessary to increase the intake of n-3 PUFA during pregnancy and lactation by improving the quality of consumed foods with particular emphasis on its DHA content.

Abstract
Health benefits have been attributed to omega-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 LCPUFA). Therefore it is important to know if Australians are currently meeting the recommended intake for n-3 LCPUFA and if they have increased since the last National Nutrition Survey in 1995 (NNS 1995). Dietary intake data was obtained from the recent 2011–2012 National Nutrition and Physical Activity Survey (2011–2012 NNPAS). Linoleic acid (LA) intakes have decreased whilst alpha-linolenic acid (LNA) and n-3 LCPUFA intakes have increased primarily due to n-3 LCPUFA supplements. The median n-3 LCPUFA intakes are less than 50% of the mean n-3 LCPUFA intakes which highlights the highly-skewed n-3 LCPUFA intakes, which shows that there are some people consuming high amounts of n-3 LCPUFA, but the vast majority of the population are consuming much lower amounts. Only 20% of the population meets the recommended n-3 LCPUFA intakes and only 10% of women of childbearing age meet the recommended docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) intake. Fish and seafood is by far the richest source of n-3 LCPUFA including DHA.
