Abstract
The prevalence of skin disorders, especially cancer, is increasing worldwide. Several factors are involved in causing skin cancer, but ultraviolet (UV) light, including sunlight and tanning beds, are considered the leading cause. Different methods such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, cryotherapy, and photodynamic therapy are mostly used for the skin cancer treatment. However, drug resistance and toxicity against cancer cells are related to these treatments. Lipid-nanoparticles have attracted significant interest as delivery systems due to non-invasive and targeted delivery based on the type of active drug. However, the stratum corneum, the outer layer of the skin, is inherently impervious to drugs. Due to their ability to penetrate the deep layers of the skin, skin delivery systems are capable of delivering drugs to target cells in a protected manner. The aim of this review was to examine the properties and applications of nanoliposomes used in the treatment and prevention of numerous types of skin cancer.

Abstract
Recently, skin cancer is one of the spread and dangerous cancers around the world. Early detection of skin cancer can reduce mortality. Traditional methods for skin cancer detection are painful, time-consuming, expensive, and may cause the disease to spread out. Dermoscopy is used for noninvasive diagnosis of skin cancer. Artificial Intelligence (AI) plays a vital role in diseases' diagnosis especially in biomedical engineering field. The automated detection systems based on AI reduce the complications in the traditional methods and can improve skin cancer's diagnosis rate. In this paper, automated early detection system for skin cancer dermoscopic images using artificial intelligent is presented. Adaptive snake (AS) and region growing (RG) algorithms are used for automated segmentation and compared with each other. The results show that AS is accurate and efficient (accuracy = 96%) more than RG algorithm (accuracy = 90%). Artificial Neural networks (ANN) and support vector machine (SVM) algorithms are used for automated classification compared with each other. The proposed system with ANN algorithm shows high accuracy (94%), precision (96%), specificity (95.83%), sensitivity (recall) (92.30%), and F1-score (0.94). The proposed system is easy to use, time consuming, enables patients to make early detection for skin cancer and has high efficiency.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Due to increasing skin cancer incidence, Germany implemented a statutory nationwide routine skin cancer screening (rSCS) in 2008. The present study aims (1) to analyze which patient factors are associated with the participation in rSCS in Germany and (2) to investigate reasons for nonparticipation. PATIENTS AND METHODS Participants and nonparticipants of rSCS (≥ 35 years) were recruited in routine care in nine dermatological outpatient clinics. Reasons for (non)participation, knowledge about skin cancer as well as clinical and socioeconomic data were obtained. Stratified by groups, descriptive analyses and binary logistic regression analyses for associations with participation were performed. RESULTS Of the 294 rSCS participants and 162 nonparticipants, 46.5% were male with a mean age of 54.5 ± 12.7 years. In total, 87.1% had sunburns in childhood and 47.1% used sunbeds before. Higher age, female gender, previous sunbed use, and concern for and knowledge of skin cancer were significantly associated with previous rSCS participation. Of the nonparticipants, 46% were unaware of the option for free rSCS and 40% justified their nonparticipation on the basis of feeling healthy. CONCLUSIONS The reasons for nonparticipation in rSCS, such as sociodemographic characteristics and risk behavior, should be known in order to optimize rSCS programs.

Abstract
The frequency of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) cases is putting an increasing strain on dermatopathologists. BCC is the most common type of skin cancer, and its incidence is increasing rapidly worldwide. AI can play a significant role in reducing the time and effort required for BCC diagnostics and thus improve the overall efficiency of the process. To train such an AI system in a fully-supervised fashion however, would require a large amount of pixel-level annotation by already strained dermatopathologists. Therefore, in this study, our primary objective was to develop a weakly-supervised for the identification of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and the stratification of BCC into low-risk and high-risk categories within histopathology whole-slide images (WSI). We compared Clustering-constrained Attention Multiple instance learning (CLAM) with StreamingCLAM and hypothesized that the latter would be the superior approach. A total of 5147 images were used to train and validate the models, which were subsequently tested on an internal set of 949 images and an external set of 183 images. The labels for training were automatically extracted from free-text pathology reports using a rule-based approach. All data has been made available through the COBRA dataset. The results showed that both the CLAM and StreamingCLAM models achieved high performance for the detection of BCC, with an area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.994 and 0.997, respectively, on the internal test set and 0.983 and 0.993 on the external dataset. Furthermore, the models performed well on risk stratification, with AUC values of 0.912 and 0.931, respectively, on the internal set, and 0.851 and 0.883 on the external set. In every single metric the StreamingCLAM model outperformed the CLAM model or is on par. The performance of both models was comparable to that of two pathologists who scored 240 BCC positive slides. Additionally, in the public test set, StreamingCLAM demonstrated a comparable AUC of 0.958, markedly superior to CLAM's 0.803. This difference was statistically significant and emphasized the strength and better adaptability of the StreamingCLAM approach.

Abstract
Dermoscopy is widely used for the diagnosis of skin cancer and it increases the accuracy of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) detection. BCC dermoscopic criteria have been updated and divided into vascular, pigment-related, and non-vascular/non-pigment-related. Our multicenter retrospective study tested a new dermoscopic pigment-related characteristic to detect pigmented BCC (pBCC) [brown homogeneous blotches (BHB)]. Cases of pBCC were collected from the databases of IDI-IRCCS of Rome and from three Italian private dermatology centers. BHB are confined patches of brown uniform pigmentation without dermoscopic features (net, fat fingers, etc.) or other internal dermoscopic structures, except for occasional vascular ones like arborizing vessels or globules/dots. Melanocytic and non-melanocytic controls were used. We reviewed photos of 270 pigmented lesions (female 145; 51.8%), including 90 histopathologically verified pBCC and 180 control cases (90 melanocytic and 90 non-melanocytic). BHB were found in 61 cases of 90 pBCC patients. The results showed a 67.8 sensitivity, 93.3 specificity, 83.6 positive and 85.3 negative predictive values, posLR 10.2, negLR 0.3, odds ratio 29.4, p<0.001. Our multicentre retrospective analysis suggested the BHB may be a novel dermoscopic pBCC diagnosis criterion.

Abstract
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) are the most frequently occurring non-melanocytic skin cancers. The objective of our study is to present the pathophysiology of BCC and cSCC and its direct relationship with the histopathological diagnostics and the differential diagnostics of these types of cancer, based on the morphological characteristics, immunohistochemical profile, and genetic alterations. The qualitative study was based on emphasizing the morphological characteristics and immunohistochemistry profiles of BCC and cSCC and the differential diagnostics based on the tissue samples from the Clinical Pathology Department of Mures Clinical County Hospital between 2020 and 2022. We analyzed the histopathological appearances and immunohistochemical profiles of BCC and cSCC in comparison with those of Bowen disease, keratoacanthoma, hyperkeratotic squamous papilloma, metatypical carcinoma, pilomatricoma, trichoblastoma, Merkel cell carcinoma, pleomorphic dermal sarcoma (PDS), and melanoma. Our study showed the importance of the correct histopathological diagnosis, which has a direct impact on the appropriate treatment and outcome for each patient. The study highlighted the histopathological and morphological characteristics of NMSCs and the precursor lesions in HE and the immunohistochemical profile for lesions that may make the differential diagnosis difficult to establish.

Abstract
Beyond established anti-programmed cell death protein 1/programmed cell death ligand 1 immunotherapy, T-cell immunoreceptor with immunoglobulin and immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibition motif domain (TIGIT) and its ligand CD155 are promising novel inhibitory immune checkpoint targets in human malignancies. Yet, in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma, evidence on the collective expression patterns of these inhibitory immune checkpoints is scarce. Complete tumour sections of 36 cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma, 5 cutaneous metastases and 9 keratoacanthomas, a highly-differentiated, squamoproliferative tumour, with disparately benign biologic behaviour, were evaluated by immunohistochemistry for expression of programmed cell death ligand 1 (Tumor Proportion Score, Immune Cell Score), TIGIT, CD155 and CD8+ immune infiltrates. Unlike keratoacanthomas, cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma displayed a strong positive correlation of programmed cell death ligand 1 Tumor Proportion Score and CD115 expression (p < 0.001) with significantly higher programmed cell death ligand 1 Tumor Proportion Score (p < 0.001) and CD155 expression (p < 0.01) in poorly differentiated G3-cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma compared with keratoacanthomas. TIGIT+ infiltrates were significantly increased in programmed cell death ligand 1 Immune Cell Score positive primary tumours (p = 0.05). Yet, a strong positive correlation of TIGIT expression with CD8+ infiltrates was only detected in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (p < 0.01), but not keratoacanthomas. Providing a comprehensive overview on the collective landscape of inhibitory immune checkpoint expression, this study reveals associations of novel inhibitory immune checkpoint with CD8+ immune infiltrates and tumour differentiation and highlights the TIGIT/CD155 axis as a potential new target for cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma immunotherapy.

Abstract
Cutaneous malignancies represent a real concern and burden for the healthcare system, not only due to their increased frequency, but also due to the significant number of deaths attributed to these types of cancer. The genesis of tumors, their progression and metastasis are highly complex and researched subjects; apparently, mast cells (MCs) constitute an important piece in the complicated jigsaw puzzle of cancer. This article reviews the current knowledge of the roles MCs might play in the development of cutaneous malignancies. Besides their well-known and studied role in allergic reactions, MCs are linked to multiple and various disorders, including cancer. MCs exhibit incredible heterogeneity, being able to secrete numerous mediators that influence the tumor microenvironment and tumor cells. They are involved in many physiological and pathological processes, such as inflammation and angiogenesis. In this context, it is paramount to explore the advancements made so far in elucidating the roles that MCs have in skin cancer because they might provide valuable therapeutic targets in the future. Controversial and conflicting results were obtained across the studies examined.

Abstract
Cancer is a diverse disease caused by transcriptional changes involving genetic and epigenetic features that influence a huge variety of genes and proteins. Skin cancer is a potentially fatal disease that affects equally men and women globally and is characterized by many molecular changes. Despite the availability of various improved approaches for detecting and treating skin cancer, it continues to be the leading cause of death throughout society. This review highlights a general overview of skin cancer, with an emphasis on epidemiology, types, risk factors, pathological and targeted facets, biomarkers and molecular markers, immunotherapy, and clinical updates of investigational drugs associated with skin cancer. The skin cancer challenges are acknowledged throughout this study, and the potential application of novel biomarkers of skin cancer formation, progression, metastasis, and prognosis is explored. Although the mechanism of skin carcinogenesis is currently poorly understood, multiple articles have shown that genetic and molecular changes are involved. Furthermore, several skin cancer risk factors are now recognized, allowing for efficient skin cancer prevention. There have been considerable improvements in the field of targeted treatment, and future research into additional targets will expand patients' therapeutic choices. In comparison to earlier articles on the same issue, this review focused on molecular and genetic factors and examined various skin cancer-related factors in depth.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSCs) include basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous-cell carcinoma (SCC), as well as a wide range of rare skin tumors. NMSCs is the most frequently diagnosed type of tumor among Caucasians. We aimed at estimating the incidence and mortality of NMSCs in the Salento area (Lecce province, Southern Italy), whose population is assumed to experience heavy and frequent sun exposure due to climatic/environmental factors, both for working and leisure activities. MATERIALS AND METHODS We computed the incidence of NMSCs in the Province of Lecce by examining the comprehensive real-world data collected by the local cancer registry, which covers all the 830,000 inhabitants, over a period of fifteen years (from 2003 to 2017), with a focus on the latest 5 years (2013-2017) for the analysis of the different histologic morphologies of these tumors. The incidence of NMSCs has been described in terms of absolute frequencies, crude rates and age-adjusted direct standardized rates (DSR). Joinpoint analysis was used to examine temporal trends in the incidence of NMSCs and estimate annual percent changes (APCs). RESULTS During the period of 2003-2017, the incidence of NMSCs reached a direct standardized rate (DSR) of 162.62 per 100,000 in men (mortality 1.57 per 100,000) and 89.36 per 100,000 in women (mortality 0.52 per 100,000), respectively. The incidence significantly increased among both men and women across the entire period. Basal cell carcinoma (BCC), with its different morphologies, represented about 67.6% of the NMSCs in men (n = 2139 out of a total of 3161 tumors observed between 2013 and 2017) and about 75.8% of the NMSCs in women (n = 1718 out of a total of 2264 tumors from 2013 to 2017), thus accounting for the vast majority of NMSCs. The results are consistent with the literature data carried out both at national and international level. CONCLUSIONS Proper monitoring of this phenomenon through timely reporting and recording of all new NMSC cases is necessary to develop new preventive strategies.

Abstract
Healthcare access greatly impacts skin cancer diagnosis and mortality rates. Recognition of current disparities in Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) access can assist future policy and clinical decisions to correct them. For the years 2014-2018, the CPT codes for MMS (17,311 and 17,313) were counted on a per county level across the United States per the Medicare Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Medicare Prescriber Database. Any county with 0 MMS CPT codes recorded were classified as "without MMS cases." MMS "hotspots" were identified as counties that possessed a high average number of MMS cases compared to the national average, while also being surrounded by counties that possessed a low average number of MMS cases compared to the national average. Three thousand eighty-four counties in the United States were analyzed; 785 (25%) counties were designated as "with MMS cases" and 2301 (75%) "without MMS cases." There were no significant differences in age, ethnicity distribution, or cost per enrollee between the two designations. 74% of counties with MMS cases were considered urban, while only 25% of those without cases were urban (p < 0.01). The median household income was markedly higher in counties with MMS cases ($71,428 vs. $58,913, p < 0.01). With respect to education, more individuals in counties with MMS cases possessed their General Education Development (GED) (89% vs. 86%, p < 0.01) or a college degree (30% vs. 19%, p < 0.01). Forty-nine counties were considered MMS "hotspots." The density of MMS procedures varies greatly based on geography, maintaining the urban-rural disparity matched by the distribution of MMS surgeons. Additionally, there remains a wide income and educational gap between counties with and without MMS. Identifying MMS hotspots may facilitate further investigation into potential surgical access disparities.

Abstract
The current work demonstrates the synthesis and characterization of piperic acid conjugates with homochiral/heterochiral dipeptides containing phenylalanine as anti-skin cancer agents. The conjugates PA-DPhe-LPhe-OH, FC-1; PA-LPhe-DPhe-OH, FC-2; PA-DPhe-DPhe-OH, FC-3; and PA-DPhe-DPhe-OH, FC-4 were synthesized, characterized and assessed for cytotoxicity against melanoma cell lines of human and murine origin. Among all, PA-DPhe-DPhe-OH (FC-3) conjugate was identified as a potential cytotoxic lead against melanoma cells by delineating the anti-proliferative and anti-migratory potential together with its anti-inflammatory potential against pro-inflammatory interleukins (IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-8). Evidences from western blotting, fractionation, and immunocytochemistry experiments suggest that Stat-3 is a critical signaling molecule involved in the FC-3 mechanism of action. The results denote that FC-3 profoundly ablates Stat-3 expression, phosphorylation, and nuclear translocation. Stat-3 mRNA analysis revealed that FC-3 did not alter the transcription of Stat-3. However, in cells where proteasome mediated degradation was inhibited, FC-3 failed to check the Stat-3 expression implying that FC-3 augments the proteasomal degradation of Stat-3. Of note, FC-3 failed to reverse the IL-6 mediated hyperactivation of Stat-3 in A375 cells. Critically, in Stat-3 deficient cancer cells, the anti-clonogenic and anti-migratory potential of FC-3 was significantly subdued. Further, the in vivo efficacy of FC-3 was validated in the two-step (DMBA/TPA) chemically induced mouse skin cancer model. The FC-3-treated cohorts of mice unveiled a significant decrease in the cumulative number of tumors besides attenuation of tumor growth with respect to the vehicle-treated mice. Lastly, in corroboration with our in vitro findings, serum collected from mice groups at various intervals during the treatment regimen demonstrated decrement in IL-1β and IL-6 levels in FC-3 treated groups compared to the vehicle-treated group.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the trends in non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) incidence in Hong Kong from 1990 to 2019 and the associations of age, calendar period, and birth cohort, to make projections to 2030, and to examine the drivers of NMSC incidence. METHODS We assessed the age, calendar period, and birth cohort effects of NMSC incidence in Hong Kong between 1990 and 2019 using an age-period-cohort model. Using Bayesian age-period-cohort analysis with integrated nested Laplace approximations, we projected the incidence of NMSC in Hong Kong to 2030. RESULTS From 1990 to 2019, the age-standardized incidence rate of NMSC increased from 6.7 per 100,000 population to 8.6 per 100,000 population in men and from 5.4 per 100,000 to 5.9 per 100,000 population in women, among the 19,568 patients in the study (9812 male patients [50.14%]). The annual net drift was 2.00% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.50-2.50%) for men and 1.53% (95% CI: 0.95-2.11%) for women. Local drifts increased for both sexes above the 35-39-year age group. The period and cohort risk of developing NMSC tended to rise but slowed gradually in the most recent period and post-1975 birth cohort. From 2019 to 2030, it is projected that the number of newly diagnosed NMSC cases in Hong Kong will increase from 564 to 829 in men and from 517 to 863 in women. Population aging, population growth, and epidemiologic changes contributed to the increase in incident NMSCs, with population aging being the most significant contributor. CONCLUSION The slowing of the period and cohort effects suggests that the rising incidence of NMSC is partly attributable to increased awareness and diagnosis. The increasing prevalence of NMSC among the elderly and an aging population will significantly impact the clinical workload associated with NMSC for the foreseeable future.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is believed to be associated with an increased risk for cancer, especially urinary tract cancer. However, previous studies predominantly focused on the association of decreased estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) with cancer. In this study, we investigated the association of albuminuria with cancer incidence, adjusted for eGFR. METHODS We included 8490 subjects in the Prevention of Renal and Vascular End-stage Disease (PREVEND) observational study. Urinary albumin excretion (UAE) was measured in two 24-hour urine specimens at baseline. Primary outcomes were the incidence of overall and urinary tract cancer. Secondary outcomes were the incidence of other site-specific cancers, and mortality due to overall, urinary tract, and other site-specific cancers. RESULTS Median baseline UAE was 9.4 (IQR, 6.3-17.8) mg/24 h. During a median follow-up of 17.7 years, 1341 subjects developed cancer (of which 177 were urinary tract cancers). After multivariable adjustment including eGFR, every doubling of UAE was associated with a 6% (hazard ratios (HR), 1.06, 95% confidence intervals (CI), 1.02-1.10), and 14% (HR, 1.14, 95% CI, 1.04-1.24) higher risk of overall and urinary tract cancer incidence, respectively. Except for lung and hematological cancer, no associations were found between UAE and the incidence of other site-specific cancer. Doubling of UAE was also associated with a higher risk of mortality due to overall and lung cancer. CONCLUSIONS Higher albuminuria is associated with a higher incidence of overall, urinary tract, lung, and hematological cancer, and with a higher risk of mortality due to overall and lung cancers, independent of baseline eGFR.

Abstract
Introduction Indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence imaging has been used in the resection surgery and sentinel lymph node biopsy of many tumors. The aim of the present study is to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of ICG fluorescence imaging used for guiding the biopsy and resection of skin squamous cell carcinoma (SSCC). Methods Sixty patients were enrolled, including 18 patients of suspected SSCC and 42 patients of diagnosed SSCC on admission. The ICG fluorescence imaging-guided skin biopsy was performed preoperatively in the 18 cases of suspected SSCC. Fifty-three patients underwent ICG fluorescence imaging-guided radical excision. Results The results showed that 138 skin tissue samples in 60 patients with preoperative or intraoperative ICG fluorescence imaging-guide biopsy were collected. For a total number of 138 biopsies, 122 specimens were squamous cell carcinoma, and the accuracy rate was 88.4%, which was significantly higher than that of the group without preoperative ICG fluorescence imaging (41/62, 66.1%, P < 0.05). Fifty-three patients underwent surgery guided with ICG fluorescence imaging. Residual fluorescent signals in 24 patients were intraoperatively found and the excision was then expanded until the signals disappeared. Follow-up to November 2022, 12 patients died, of which 5 cases died from the tumor recurrence, and the others died due to advanced ages or other reasons. The recurrence rate was 9.4%, which was not significantly different from that of the group received routine radical resection (4/35, 11.4%, P > 0.05). Moreover, sentinel lymph nodes were successfully detected under ICG fluorescence imaging in the 4 patients with suspected lymph node metastases, and the location of lymph nodes can be precisely identified. Conclusion ICG fluorescence imaging technique can guide the pathology biopsy to improve the accuracy of pathological examination, and help to identify the boundaries of tumor tissues and sentinel lymph nodes to resect tumor radically during operation.

Abstract
The maintenance of lysosome homeostasis is crucial for cell growth. Lysosome-dependent degradation and metabolism sustain tumor cell survival. Here, we demonstrate that CCDC50 serves as a lysophagy receptor, promoting tumor progression and invasion by controlling lysosomal integrity and renewal. CCDC50 monitors lysosomal damage, recognizes galectin-3 and K63-linked polyubiquitination on damaged lysosomes, and specifically targets them for autophagy-dependent degradation. CCDC50 deficiency causes the accumulation of ruptured lysosomes, impaired autophagic flux, and superfluous reactive oxygen species, consequently leading to cell death and tumor suppression. CCDC50 expression is associated with malignancy, progression to metastasis, and poor overall survival in human melanoma. Targeting CCDC50 suppresses tumor growth and lung metastasis, and enhances the effect of BRAFV600E inhibition. Thus, we demonstrate critical roles of CCDC50-mediated clearance of damaged lysosomes in supporting tumor growth, hereby identifying a potential therapeutic target of melanoma.

Abstract
Skin cancer is a global threat to the healthcare system and is estimated to incline tremendously in the next 20 years, if not diagnosed at an early stage. Even though it is curable at an early stage, novel drug identification, clinical success, and drug resistance is another major challenge. To bridge the gap and bring effective treatment, it is important to understand the etiology of skin carcinoma, the mechanism of cell proliferation, factors affecting cell growth, and the mechanism of drug resistance. The current article focusses on understanding the structural diversity of skin cancers, treatments available till date including phytocompounds, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, photothermal therapy, surgery, combination therapy, molecular targets associated with cancer growth and metastasis, and special emphasis on nanotechnology-based approaches for downregulating the deleterious disease. A detailed analysis with respect to types of nanoparticles and their scope in overcoming multidrug resistance as well as associated clinical trials has been discussed.

Abstract
Morbidity and mortality from skin cancer continue to rise domestically and globally, and melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers are a topic of interest in the dermatology and oncology communities. In this review, we summarize the stimulator of interferon genes (STING) pathway, its specific role in the pathogenesis of DNA damage and skin cancer, and STING-specific therapies that may fight both melanoma and non-melanoma skin (NMSC) cancers. Furthermore, we discuss specific portions of the STING pathway that may be used in addition to previously used therapies to provide a synergistic effect in future oncology treatments and discuss the limitations of current STING-based therapies.

Abstract
Introduction Skin cancers are classified into melanoma and non-melanoma or keratinocyte cancers. No recent data are found about the epidemiology of skin cancers in Saudi Arabia. The current study aims to determine the burden of skin cancer in the last 11 years from 2011 to 2022. Methods Patients who were diagnosed with any type of skin cancer were enrolled in the study. The diagnosis was conducted based on histopathology and immunohistochemistry. Different variables like age, type of cancer, type of lesions, and treatment approach used were measured. Results A total of 91 patients were diagnosed with skin cancers during the study period. The head and neck were the most common sites for skin cancers. Only 4/91 cases reported invasive melanoma. Both squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) (34/91) and basal cell carcinoma (BCC) (28/91) were found to be the most reported skin cancers. Other cancers including mycosis fungoides (MF) (10/91), Kaposi's sarcoma (6/91), and dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) (5/91) were also detected. The rest of the detected tumors were rarely detected. Aggressive CD4+/CD4+/CD8+ MF was more prevalent than CD3+/CD4+/CD8- MF cancer cases. CD34+ /S100- DFSP cancers were evident in most of the DFSP cases. Human herpes virus 8 was detected in all Kaposi's sarcoma cases and all of them were HIV-confirmed cases. Surgical treatment was the most frequently used approach to treat skin cancers, followed by phototherapy (9.9%), surgical/radiotherapy (5.5%), surgical/chemotherapy (4.4%), chemotherapy (3.3%), and then chemoradiotherapy immunotherapy (1.1%). Conclusion The incidences of SCC and BCC are relatively high in comparison to other types of skin cancers with the surgical intervention being most frequently used.

Abstract
Melanoma is the most aggressive and malignant form of skin cancer. Current melanoma treatment methods generally suffer from frequent drug administration as well as difficulty in direct monitoring of drug release. Here, a self-monitoring microneedle (MN)-based drug delivery system, which integrates a dissolving MN patch with aggregation-induced emission (AIE)-active PATC microparticles, is designed to achieve light-controlled pulsatile chemo-photothermal synergistic therapy of melanoma. The PATC polymeric particles, termed D/I@PATC, encapsulate both of chemotherapeutic drug doxorubicin (DOX) and the photothermal agent indocyanine green (ICG). Upon light illumination, PATC gradually dissociates into smaller particles, causing the release of encapsulated DOX and subsequent fluorescence intensity change of PATC particles, thereby not only enabling direct observation of the drug release process under light stimuli, but also facilitating verification of drug release by fluorescence recovery after light trigger. Moreover, encapsulation of ICG in PATC particles displays significant improvement of its photothermal stability both in vitro and in vivo. In a tumor-bearing mouse, the application of one D/I@PATC MN patch combining with two cycles of light irradiation showed excellent controllable chemo-photothermal efficacy and exhibited ∼97% melanoma inhibition rate without inducing any evident systemic toxicity, suggesting a great potential for skin cancer treatment in clinics.

Abstract
Skin cancer refers to any malignant lesions that occur in the skin and are observed predominantly in populations of European descent. Conventional treatment modalities such as excision biopsy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, electrodesiccation, and photodynamic therapy (PDT) induce several unintended side effects which affect a patient's quality of life and physical well-being. Therefore, spice-derived nutraceuticals like curcumin, which are well tolerated, less expensive, and relatively safe, have been considered a promising agent for skin cancer treatment. Curcumin, a chemical constituent extracted from the Indian spice, turmeric, and its analogues has been used in various mammalian cancers including skin cancer. Curcumin has anti-neoplastic activity by triggering the process of apoptosis and preventing the multiplication and infiltration of the cancer cells by inhibiting some signaling pathways and thus subsequently preventing the process of carcinogenesis. Curcumin is also a photosensitizer and has been used in PDT. The major limitations associated with curcumin are poor bioavailability, instability, limited permeation into the skin, and lack of solubility in water. This will constrain the use of curcumin in clinical settings. Hence, developing a proper formulation that can ideally release curcumin to its targeted site is important. So, several nanoformulations based on curcumin have been established such as nanogels, nanoemulsions, nanofibers, nanopatterned films, nanoliposomes and nanoniosomes, nanodisks, and cyclodextrins. The present review mainly focuses on curcumin and its analogues as therapeutic agents for treating different types of skin cancers. The significance of using various nanoformulations as well non-nanoformulations loaded with curcumin as an effective treatment modality for skin cancer is also emphasized.

Abstract
A chronic auto-immune-mediated disease Psoriasis is associated with manycoexisting or co-occurringconditions, which include a significant risk of malignancies, especiallyskin tumours. Numerous studies were done to understand whether psoriasis itself, comorbidities related to psoriasis, or psoriasis treatment might increase the risk of neoplasms. We reviewed the relation between psoriasis and cancer risk, also the significance of inflammation in cancer The various classes of drugs used to treat psoriasis, including biologics like tumour necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors; and how they increase cancer risk are deliberated. Literature was collated for the past five years from the data bases like PubMed, Medline, Google Scholar, etc. Literatures discussing the skin cancer linked to psoriasis were reviewed. Possible mechanisms associated between inflammation and psoriasis; skin cancer was explained in the context of the several psoriasis medications that increase the likelihood of skin cancer. The risk of cancer in other cutaneous auto-inflammatory diseases is also elucidated. It is frequently observed that increased doses of PUVA therapy, immunosuppressive medications, and lifestyle changes alter the aetiology of the tumours. This review is conceptualized to shed the light on probable mechanisms involved in these connections as well as the chance of cancer in psoriasis patients.

Abstract
The transient receptor potential, the melastatin (TRPM) subfamily, which consists of eight known members, appears to have significant importance in melanoma progression, treatment, and prognosis. As several members were originally cloned from cancerous tissue, initial studies aimed towards identifying TRPM involvement in cancer progression and tumorigenesis. For relevance in skin cancer, previous research has shown roles for several TRPM members in skin cancer progression, growth, and patient prognosis. One unique member, TRPM2, appears to have notable therapeutic potential in the treatment of melanoma. Previous and recent studies have demonstrated increased TRPM2 expression levels in melanoma, as well as important roles for TRPM2 in melanoma growth, proliferation, and survival. TRPM2 is thus an emerging target in the treatment of melanoma, where TRPM2 antagonism may offer an additional treatment option for melanoma patients in the future.

Abstract
UV radiation (UVR) is responsible for inducing both harmful and beneficial effects on skin health. Specifically, it has been reported to disrupt oxidant and antioxidant levels, leading to oxidative stress conditions in skin tissue. This phenomenon might trigger photo-carcinogenesis, resulting in melanoma, NMSC (non-melanoma skin cancer), such as BCC (basal cell carcinoma) and SCC (squamous cell carcinoma), and actinic keratosis. On the other hand, UVR is essential for the production of adequate vitamin D levels, a hormone with important antioxidant, anticancer and immunomodulatory properties. The exact mechanisms implicated in this two-fold action are not well understood, as there still no clear relation established between skin cancer and vitamin D status. Oxidative stress seems to be a neglected aspect of this complex relation, despite its role in both skin cancer development and vitamin D deficiency. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to examine the correlation between vitamin D and oxidative stress in skin cancer patients. A total of 100 subjects (25 with SCC, 26 with BCC, 23 with actinic keratosis, and 27 controls) were assessed in terms of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH) D) and redox markers such as thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), protein carbonyls, total antioxidant capacity (TAC) in plasma, glutathione (GSH) levels and catalase activity in erythrocytes. The majority of our patients revealed low vitamin D levels; 37% of the subjects showed deficiency (<20 ng/mL) and 35% insufficiency (21-29 ng/mL). The mean 25(OH) D level of the NMSC patients (20.87 ng/mL) was also found to be significantly lower (p = 0.004) than that of the non-cancer patients (28.14 ng/mL). Furthermore, higher vitamin D levels were also correlated with lower oxidative stress (positive correlation with GSH, catalase activity TAC index and negative correlation with TBARS and CARBS indices). NMSC patients diagnosed with SCC showed lower catalase activity values compared to non-cancer patients (p < 0.001), with the lowest values occurring in patients with a chronic cancer diagnosis (p < 0.001) and vitamin D deficiency (p < 0.001). Higher GSH levels (p = 0.001) and lower TBARS levels (p = 0.016) were found in the control group compared to the NMSC group, and to patients with actinic keratosis. Higher levels of CARBS were observed in patients with SCC (p < 0.001). Non-cancer patients with vitamin D sufficiency showed higher TAC values compared to non-cancer patients with vitamin D deficiency (p = 0.023) and to NMSC patients (p = 0.036). The above-mentioned results indicate that NMSC patients reveal increased levels of oxidative damage markers compared to control levels, while vitamin D status plays a critical role in the determination of individuals' oxidative status.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Development of skin cancer, in particular melanoma, has been linked to sex hormones. We aimed to determine the incidence of skin cancer in transgender individuals receiving gender-affirming hormone treatment (GAHT). METHODS In this nationwide retrospective cohort study, clinical information of participants who visited our clinic between (the years) 1972 and 2018 and received GAHT was integrated with national pathology and cancer statistics data in order to assess skin cancer incidence. Standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) were calculated. RESULTS The cohort consisted of 2,436 trans women and 1,444 trans men. The median age at the start of GAHT was 31 years (IQR 24-42) in trans women and 24 years (IQR 20-32) in trans men. The median follow-up time for trans women was 8 years (IQR 3-18) with a total follow-up time of 29,152 years and 4 years (IQR 2-12) with a total follow-up time of 12,469 years for trans men. Eight trans women were diagnosed with melanoma (SIR 1.80 [95% CI 0.83-3.41] vs. all men; SIR 1.40 [0.65-2.65] vs. all women), and seven developed squamous cell carcinoma (SIR 0.78 [0.34-1.55] vs. all men; SIR 1.15 [0.50-2.27] vs. all women). Two trans men developed melanoma (SIR 1.05 [0.18-3.47] vs. all men; SIR 0.77 [0.14-2.70] vs. all women). CONCLUSIONS GAHT did not appear to affect skin cancer incidence in this large cohort of transgender individuals. As skin cancer incidence increases with age and the proportion of elderly subjects is currently limited in this cohort, it will be worthwhile to repeat this analysis in the future.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy in cutaneous melanoma patients evaluates the regional draining basin for occult micrometastatic disease. Occasionally, nonidentification of SLN impairs the acquisition of this important prognostic factor. OBJECTIVES To investigate the outcomes of melanoma patients with negative lymphoscintigraphic findings and patients who underwent SLN biopsy from 2004 to 2015 ( n = 1200) were retrospectively reviewed for tumor characteristics and clinical outcomes. METHODS Patients with nonvisualized lymph nodes (NV group) who underwent only preoperative lymphoscintigraphy were separated and compared with a cohort drawn from all melanoma patients who completed the surgical procedure within the same period (V group). RESULTS A negative lymphoscintigraphic scan was observed in 38 cases (3.2% of all patients). The NV group showed a significantly older age (median 66.0 vs. 48.3 years; P < 0.0001). Head and neck melanomas were more frequent in the NV group compared to the control group (25.1 vs. 7.8%; P = 0.009). Tumor characteristics such as ulceration and Breslow thickness do not influence the lymphoscintigraphy result. No differences were found in overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) between the groups. CONCLUSIONS The nonvisualization of regional lymph nodes by lymphoscintigraphy is more frequent in older patients with head and neck melanomas. From the clinical point of view, no specific recommendation emerged for patients' management because the nonvisualization of the SLN did not show a significant influence on DFS and OS rates. However, lack of knowledge of lymph node status suggests performing a tighter follow-up eventually by ultrasound evaluation of all potential lymph node drainage basins.

Abstract
Skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer, and its incidence continues to increase. It is divided into two main categories, melanoma and non-melanoma. Treatments include surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. The relatively high mortality in melanoma and the existing recurrence rates, both for melanoma and non-melanoma, create the need for studying and developing new approaches for skin cancer management. Recent studies have focused on immunotherapy, photodynamic therapy, photothermal therapy, and photoimmunotherapy. Photoimmunotherapy has gained much attention due to its excellent potential outcomes. It combines the advantages of photodynamic and/or photothermal therapy with a systemic immune response, making it ideal for metastatic cancer. This review critically discusses different new nanomaterials' properties and mechanisms of action for skin cancer photoimmunotherapy and the main results obtained in the field.

Abstract
Significance Spectral imaging, which includes hyperspectral and multispectral imaging, can provide images in numerous wavelength bands within and beyond the visible light spectrum. Emerging technologies that enable compact, portable spectral imaging cameras can facilitate new applications in biomedical imaging. Aim With this review paper, researchers will (1) understand the technological trends of upcoming spectral cameras, (2) understand new specific applications that portable spectral imaging unlocked, and (3) evaluate proper spectral imaging systems for their specific applications. Approach We performed a comprehensive literature review in three databases (Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science). We included only fully realized systems with definable dimensions. To best accommodate many different definitions of "compact," we included a table of dimensions and weights for systems that met our definition. Results There is a wide variety of contributions from industry, academic, and hobbyist spaces. A variety of new engineering approaches, such as Fabry-Perot interferometers, spectrally resolved detector array (mosaic array), microelectro-mechanical systems, 3D printing, light-emitting diodes, and smartphones, were used in the construction of compact spectral imaging cameras. In bioimaging applications, these compact devices were used for in vivo and ex vivo diagnosis and surgical settings. Conclusions Compact and ultracompact spectral imagers are the future of spectral imaging systems. Researchers in the bioimaging fields are building systems that are low-cost, fast in acquisition time, and mobile enough to be handheld.

Abstract
Skin cancer has high rates of mortality and therapeutic failure. In this study, to develop a multi-agent strategy for skin cancer management, the selective cytotoxicity of several alkaloid fractions and pure alkaloids isolated from Amaryllidaceae species was evaluated in melanoma cells. In addition, UVB-stimulated keratinocytes (HaCaT) were exposed to seven alkaloid fractions characterized by GC-MS, and the production of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) and IL-6, were measured to evaluate their photoprotection effects. The Eucharis caucana (bulb) alkaloid fraction (20 μg/ml) had a clear effect on the viability of melanoma cells, reducing it by 45.7% without affecting healthy keratinocytes. This alkaloid fraction and tazettine (both at 2.5 μg/ml) suppressed UVB-induced ROS production by 31.6% and 29.4%, respectively. The highest anti-inflammatory potential was shown by the Zephyranthes carinata (bulb) alkaloid fraction (10 μg/ml), which reduced IL-6 production by 90.8%. According to the chemometric analysis, lycoramine and tazettine had a photoprotective effect on the UVB-exposed HaCaT cells, attenuating the production of ROS and IL-6. These results suggest that Amaryllidaceae alkaloids have photoprotective and therapeutic potential in skin cancer management, especially at low concentrations.

Abstract
Phytochemicals represent a large and diverse group of naturally occurring compounds, bioactive nutrients, or phytonutrients produced by plants, widely found in fruits, vegetables, whole grains products, legumes, beans, herbs, seeds, nuts, tea, and dark chocolate. They are classified according to their chemical structures and functional properties. Flavonoids belong to the phenolic class of phytochemicals with potential solid pharmacological effects as modulators of multiple signal transduction pathways. Their beneficial effect on the human body is associated with their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimutagenic, and anticarcinogenic properties. Flavonoids are also widely used in various nutritional, pharmaceutical, medical, and cosmetic applications. In our review, we discuss the positive effect of flavonoids on chronic skin diseases such as vitiligo, psoriasis, acne, and atopic dermatitis.

Abstract
Non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) is a tumor that arises from human keratinocytes, showing abnormal control of cell proliferation and aberrant stratification. Cutaneous basal cell carcinoma (cBCC) and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) are the most common sub-types of NMSC. From a molecular point of view, we are still far from fully understanding the molecular mechanisms behind the onset and progression of NMSC and to unravel targetable vulnerabilities to leverage for their treatment, which is still essentially based on surgery. Under this assumption, it is still not elucidated how the central cellular metabolism, a potential therapeutical target, is involved in NMSC progression. Therefore, our work is based on the characterization of the serine anabolism/catabolism and/or one-carbon metabolism (OCM) role in NMSC pathogenesis. Expression and protein analysis of normal skin and NMSC samples show the alteration of the expression of two enzymes involved in the serine metabolism and OCM, the Serine Hydroxy-Methyl Transferase 2 (SHMT2) and Methylen-ThetraHydroFolate dehydrogenase/cyclohydrolase 2 (MTHFD2). Tissues analysis shows that these two enzymes are mainly expressed in the proliferative areas of cBCC and in the poorly differentiated areas of cSCC, suggesting their role in tumor proliferation maintenance. Moreover, in vitro silencing of SHMT2 and MTHFD2 impairs the proliferation of epidermoid cancer cell line. Taken together these data allow us to link the central cellular metabolism (serine and/or OCM) and NMSC proliferation and progression, offering the opportunity to modulate pharmacologically the involved enzymes activity against this type of human cancer.

Abstract
Plant-mediated metallic nanoparticles have beenreported for a diversified range of applications in biological sciences. In the present study, we propose the Polianthes tuberosa flower as a reducing and stabilizing agent for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (PTAgNPs). The PTAgNPs were exclusively characterized using UV-Visible spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy, zeta potential, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies. In a biological assay, we investigated the antibacterial and anticancer activity of silver nanoparticles in the A431 cell line. The PTAgNPs demonstrated a dose-dependent activity in E. coli and S. aureus, suggesting the bactericidal nature of AgNPs. The PTAgNPs exhibited dose-dependent toxicity in the A431 cell line, with an IC50 of 54.56 µg/mL arresting cell growth at the S phase, as revealed by flow cytometry analysis. The COMET assay revealed 39.9% and 18.15 severities of DNA damage and tail length in the treated cell line, respectively. Fluorescence staining studies indicate that PTAgNPs cause reactive oxygen species (ROS) and trigger apoptosis. This research demonstrates that synthesized silver nanoparticles have a significant effect on inhibiting the growth of melanoma cells and other forms of skin cancer. The results show that these particles can cause apoptosis or cell death in malignant tumor cells. This suggests that they could be used to treat skin cancers without harming normal tissues.

Abstract
Skin is the largest epithelial surface of the human body, with a surface area of 2 m2 for the average adult human. Being an external organ, it is susceptible to more than 3000 potential skin diseases, including injury, inflammation, microbial and viral infections, and skin cancer. Due to its nature, it offers a large accessible site for administrating several medications against these diseases. The dermal and transdermal delivery of such medications are often ensured by utilizing dermal/transdermal patches or microneedles made of biocompatible and biodegradable materials. These tools provide controlled delivery of drugs to the site of action in a rapid and therapeutically effective manner with enhanced diffusivity and minimal side effects. Regrettably, they are usually fabricated using synthetic materials with possible harmful environmental effects. Manufacturing such tools using green synthesis routes and raw materials is hence essential for both ecological and economic sustainability. In this review, natural materials including chitosan/chitin, alginate, keratin, gelatin, cellulose, hyaluronic acid, pectin, and collagen utilized in designing ecofriendly patches will be explored. Their implementation in wound healing, skin cancer, inflammations, and infections will be discussed, and the significance of these studies will be evaluated with future perspectives.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Whether menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) increases the risk of skin cancer is controversial. AIM To systematically review and meta-analyze evidence regarding the association of MHT with the risk of melanoma and keratinocyte cancer (KC). MATERIAL AND METHODS A comprehensive literature search was conducted of the PubMed, Scopus and Cochrane databases, through to 30 October 2021. Skin neoplasms were divided into melanoma and KC. In the latter category, both basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) were considered. The results are presented as hazard ratios (HR) with 95 % confidence intervals (CI). The I2 index was used to assess heterogeneity. Subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis were also conducted in order to explore potential differences among studies. RESULTS Twenty-seven studies were included in the qualitative and 23 in the quantitative analysis, with a total of 2,612,712 menopausal women (25,126 with skin cancer; 20,150 with melanoma). MHT was associated with an increased risk of melanoma (HR 1.11; 95 % CI 1.05-1.19; I2 45%). With regard to MHT type, both estrogen monotherapy (HR 1.22, 95 % CI 1.16-1.29; I2 0%) and estrogen in combination with progestogen (HR 1.11, 95 % CI 1.05-1.18, I2 26%) significantly increased that risk. Regarding melanoma subtype, superficial spreading melanoma (SSM) and lentigo maligna melanoma (LMM) were the only histologic subtypes associated with MHT use. MHT was also associated with an increased risk of KC (HR 1.17, 95 % CI 1.04-1.31, I2 83%), specifically BCC (HR 1.22, 95 % CI 1.12-1.32; I2 29%). Longer duration (>5 years) of MHT, current use and estrogen monotherapy were associated with an increased KC risk compared with no use. CONCLUSION The use of MHT by postmenopausal women was associated with an increased risk of melanoma and KC. This risk was higher for current MHT users and those treated for over 5 years.

Abstract
Many studies have recently used several deep learning methods for detecting skin cancer. However, hyperspectral imaging (HSI) is a noninvasive optics system that can obtain wavelength information on the location of skin cancer lesions and requires further investigation. Hyperspectral technology can capture hundreds of narrow bands of the electromagnetic spectrum both within and outside the visible wavelength range as well as bands that enhance the distinction of image features. The dataset from the ISIC library was used in this study to detect and classify skin cancer on the basis of basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and seborrheic keratosis (SK). The dataset was divided into training and test sets, and you only look once (YOLO) version 5 was applied to train the model. The model performance was judged according to the generated confusion matrix and five indicating parameters, including precision, recall, specificity, accuracy, and the F1-score of the trained model. Two models, namely, hyperspectral narrowband image (HSI-NBI) and RGB classification, were built and then compared in this study to understand the performance of HSI with the RGB model. Experimental results showed that the HSI model can learn the SCC feature better than the original RGB image because the feature is more prominent or the model is not captured in other categories. The recall rate of the RGB and HSI models were 0.722 to 0.794, respectively, thereby indicating an overall increase of 7.5% when using the HSI model.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Interest in image-guidance superficial radiation therapy (IGSRT) for the treatment of early-stage non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) has resurfaced given its low complication rates, superior cosmesis and local control and cure rates. In addition, it has been recommended by the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) for early-stage NMSC in patients who are considered poor surgical candidates. METHODS 1899 NMSC lesions were treated with energies ranging from 50 to 100 kilovoltage (kV), for a mean of 20.2 fractions, and treatment dose of 5364.4 centigray (cGy). Lesions were treated for a mean of 7.5 weeks and followed for 65.5 weeks. SAS studio was used to conduct Kaplan-Meier analysis to calculate local control rates and account for differences in follow-up intervals. A log-rank test was used to calculate statistical differences between histologies. RESULTS Absolute lesion control was achieved in 99.7% of the patients after an average of 7.5 weeks of treatment, with a stable control rate of 99.6% when the follow-up duration was over 12 months. 95% of lesions with toxicity scoring received a Radiation Treatment Oncology Group Toxicity (RTOG) score of 1 or 2. CONCLUSION IGSRT has a high safety profile, can achieve superior cosmesis and should be considered first-line for treating early-stage NMSC tumors as cure rates have been shown to be effective in all NMSC on early follow-up.

Abstract
Skin cancer is a global health issue and mainly composed of melanoma and nonmelanoma cancers. For the first clinical proof of concept on humans, we decided to study good prognosis skin cancers, i.e., carcinoma basal cell. In UE, the first-line treatment remains surgical resection, healing most of the tumors, but presents aesthetic disadvantages with a high reoccurrence rate on exposed areas. Moreover, the therapeutic indications could extend to melanoma and metastasis, which is a different medical strategy that could combine this treatment. Indeed, patients with late-stage melanoma are in a therapeutic impasse, despite recent targeted and immunological therapies. Photothermal therapy using gold nanoparticles is the subject of many investigations due to their strong potential to treat cancers by physical, thermal destruction. We developed gold nanoparticles synthesized by green chemistry (gGNPs), using endemic plant extract from Reunion Island, which have previously showed their efficiency at a preclinical stage. Here, we demonstrate that these gGNPs are less cytotoxic than gold nanoparticles synthesized by Turkevich's method. Furthermore, our work describes the optimization of gGNP coating and stabilization, also taking into consideration the gGNP path in cells (endocytosis, intracellular trafficking, and exocytosis), their specificity toward cancerous cells, their cytotoxicity, and their in vivo efficiency. Finally, based on the metabolic switch of cancerous cells overexpressing Glut transporters in skin cancers, we demonstrated that glucose-stabilized gGNP (gGNP@G) enables a quick internalization, fourfold higher in cancerous cells in contrast to healthy cells with no side cytotoxicity, which is particularly relevant to target and treat cancer.

Abstract
Purpose Advanced cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas (cSCC) can have unclear borders, and simple expanded resection may not only destroy surrounding normal tissues unnecessarily, but can also leave residual tumor cells behind. In this article, we describe a new method for resection and evaluate its accuracy. Methods The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data of 12 patients with advanced cSCC were reconstructed to obtain three-dimensional (3D) tumor models and guide plates for surgeries. Thirty-eight patients with the same cSCC stage, who underwent expanded resection, were included. The distances between the upper, lower, left and right horizontal margins and tumor pathological boundaries were classified as "positive", "close" (0-6 mm), "adequate" (6-12 mm) or "excessive" (>12 mm). The positive margin rate and margin distance were compared between the groups. Results The 3D tumor models of 12 patients were all successfully reconstructed. The positive rate of 48 surgical margins in the guide plate group was 2.1%, and the proportion of "adequate" margins was 70.8%. A total of 152 margins of 38 patients were included in the extended resection group, for which the positive rate was 13.8%; this was higher than that of the guide plate group (P = 0.045). The proportion of "adequate" margins was 27.6%, with group differences seen in the distance distribution (P < 0.01). Conclusions In surgical resection of advanced cSCC, compared with simple expanded resection, surgical planning using a 3D tumor model and guide plate can reduce the rate of horizontal surgical margins, and the probability of under- or over-resection.Clinical Trial Registration: http://www.chictr.org.cn, Identifier [No. ChiCTR2100050174].

Abstract
Despite skin being the largest and most exposed organ of the human body, skin issues can be challenging to diagnose in deployed military service members. Common reasons deployed soldiers seek dermatological evaluation include infections, inflammatory skin conditions, and skin growth. Due to limited access to specialized care in deployed settings, dermatological conditions are undertreated and underdiagnosed. As a result, dermatological conditions are a leading contributor to decreased combat effectiveness among deployed medical forces. To lessen the burden of dermatological diseases, military providers should promptly identify operational skin diseases and alleviate modifiable barriers faced by service members. In a post-pandemic era with novel Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and monkeypox infections, the duty to effectively treat operational skin lesions is ever important. The need for military dermatologists continues to rise as the global landscape continues to evolve with unprecedented infections and increased bioterrorism threats. Teledermatology offers many solutions to mitigate the high demand for dermatologists during pandemics. Dermatological consultations account for the highest number of telemedicine visits in the US Military Health System (MHS). As such, increased utilization of teledermatology will reduce infection-related dermatological sequelae and prevent the medical evacuation of service members from military operations. This review collates and categorizes relevant dermatological conditions encountered among deployed personnel. This report outlines the standard of care and modified treatments recommended according to potential barriers faced in operational settings.

Abstract
Skin cancer is a life-threatening disease and has caused significant loss to human health across the globe. Its prevalence has been increasing every year and is one of the common malignancies in the case of organ transplant recipients, of which 95% constitute basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas. The prime factor causing skin cancer is UV radiation. Around the 20th century, sunlight was the primary cause of skin cancer. A novel hypothesis by US scientists stated that cutaneous melanoma was mainly due to recurrent exposure to the sun, whereas keratinocyte cancer occurred due to progressive accumulation of sun exposure. Management of skin cancer is done via various approaches, including cryotherapy, radiotherapy, and photodynamic therapy. Post-discovery of X-rays, radiotherapy has proven to treat skin cancers to some extent, but the indications are uncertain since it depends upon the type of tumour and surgical treatment required for the patient. Due to various limitations of skin cancer treatment and increased severity, there is a requirement for cost-effective, novel, and efficient treatment. Various nanocarriers such as SLNs, magnetic nanoparticles, gold nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes, etc., are the potential carriers in the management and prognosis of both non-melanoma and melanoma skin cancer. Various research and review databases and patent reports have been studied, and information compiled to extract the results. The review also discusses the role of various nanocarriers in treating and diagnosing skin cancer.

Abstract
Topical drug delivery presents a novel substitute to the conventional drug-distribution routes of oral delivery and injection. Apart from the simplicity and non-invasiveness, the skin also serves as a “reservoir” that sustains administration over a period of days. Nanocarriers provide new potential for the treatment of skin disease. The skin’s barrier function offers a considerable obstacle for the potential nanocarriers to infiltrate into the tissue. However, the barrier is partially weakened in case of damage or inflammation, as in the case of skin cancer. Nanoparticles may promote the penetration of the skin. Extensive research has been done into producing nanoparticles for topical distribution; nevertheless, relatively little progress has been achieved in transferring them to the clinic for treating skin malignancies. The prior art features the critical concepts of skin malignancies and techniques in current clinical care. The present review gives a complete viewpoint of the numerous nanoparticle technologies studied for the topical treatment of skin malignancies and outlines the hurdles that hamper its advancement from the bench to the bedside. The review also intends to give knowledge of the routes that control nanoparticle penetration into the skin and their interactions inside the tissue.

Abstract
Cancer is a multifactorial chronic illness caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. A tumor is more than just a collection of cancer cells, it also contains infiltrating and resident host cells that are constantly interacting with it. Innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) have been recently found to be within the tumor and its microenvironment in close relationship with cancer cells. Although ILCs lack an antigen-specific receptor, they can respond to environmental stress signals, aiding in the fast orchestration of an early immune response. They are tissue resident cells mostly located in mucosa and first barrier organs that have been mainly studied in the defense against pathogens, lymphoid development, and tissue repair, however, current research has begun to elucidate their involvement in carcinogenesis. Nevertheless, among all ILCs, ILC3s have been found to be the most controversial in terms of tumor immunity. It has been found that they enhance anti-tumor immunity by detecting cancerous cells and helping lymphocytes infiltrate tumors. However, some recent studies have revealed that IL-23 stimulating ILC3s may promote tumor growth. In this review, we have incorporated the most recent studies on the involvement of ILC3s in cancer development to offer an overview of the role of ILC3s in cancer emphasis on their particular activity in several organs primarily in the mucosa, but also in breast, pancreas, liver, and skin, realizing that their role likely depends on the tissue microenvironment and the subtype of ILC3s.

Abstract
Skin cancers are by far the most frequently diagnosed human cancers. The closely related transcriptional co-regulator proteins YAP and TAZ (WWTR1) have emerged as important drivers of tumour initiation, progression and metastasis in melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers. YAP/TAZ serve as an essential signalling hub by integrating signals from multiple upstream pathways. In this review, we summarize the roles of YAP/TAZ in skin physiology and tumorigenesis and discuss recent efforts of therapeutic interventions that target YAP/TAZ in in both preclinical and clinical settings, as well as their prospects for use as skin cancer treatments.

Abstract
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common nonmelanoma skin cancer in Switzerland and worldwide. Most BCCs can be treated in a curative setting. However, patients can develop locally destructive and, rarely, metastatic tumors that require a different treatment approach. The clinical subtype of individual lesions provides prognostic information and influences management decisions. Surgical excision, topical therapies, and radiotherapy are highly effective in the majority of subtypes as well as in low- and high-risk diseases. For patients with low-risk diseases and superficial tumors not amenable to surgery, several nonsurgical alternatives are available. Systemic therapy is indicated for high-risk BCCs, which are not amenable to either surgery or radiotherapy. Hedgehog pathway inhibitors (HHI) are currently approved. Other therapeutic options such as immune checkpoint inhibitors show promising results in clinical trials. This first version of Swiss recommendations for diagnosis and management of BCC was prepared through extensive literature review and an advisory board consensus of expert dermatologists and oncologists in Switzerland. The present guidelines recommend therapies based on a multidisciplinary team approach and rate of recurrence for individual lesions. Based on the risk of recurrence, two distinct groups have been identified: low-risk (easy-to-treat) and high-risk (difficult-to-treat) tumors. Based on these classifications, evidence-based recommendations of available therapies are presented herein.

Abstract
Skin is the thin layer of tissue forming the natural integumentary system of the body that acts as a barrier to protect it from exogenous and endogenous factors that induce undesirable biological responses in the body. Among these risk factors, skin damage triggered by solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR) is an escalating problem in dermatology with an increased incidence of acute and chronic cutaneous reactions. Several epidemiological studies have provided evidence for both beneficial and harmful effects of sunlight, particularly the solar UVR exposure of human beings. Due to overexposure to solar UVR on the earth's surface, outdoor professionals such as farmers, rural workers, builders and road workers are most vulnerable to developing occupational skin diseases. Indoor tanning is also associated with increased risks for various dermatological diseases. Sunburn is described as the erythematic acute cutaneous response in addition to increased melanin and apoptosis of keratinocytes to prevent skin carcinoma. Alterations in molecular, pigmentary and morphological characteristics cause carcinogenic progression in skin malignancies and premature ageing of the skin. Solar UV damage leads to immunosuppressive skin diseases such as phototoxic and photoallergic reactions. UV-induced pigmentation persists for a longer time, called long-lasting pigmentation. Sunscreen is the most mentioned skin protective behaviour and it is the most promoted part of the sun smart message along with other effective skin protection strategies such as clothing, that is, long sleeves, hats and sunglasses.
