Abstract
BACKGROUND Yoga may reduce negative cancer- and treatment-related effects and help improve a range of outcomes, including flexibility, mindfulness, and quality of life among adults affected by cancer. Yet there is little evidence for the role of yoga among young adults (18-39 years) affected by cancer. PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of young adults affected by cancer in an 8-week yoga intervention delivered by videoconference. METHODS Young adults who were diagnosed with cancer between the ages of 18 and 39 years, at any stage of the cancer trajectory, who were living in Canada, and who completed an 8-week yoga intervention were approached to complete a semi-structured interview. A social constructivist paradigm was adopted. Interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. RESULTS Twenty-eight young adults (Mean age = 34.67 ± 5.11 years; n = 25 female) with varied cancer diagnoses participated. Participants' perspectives were represented across 6 themes: (1) I was juggling a number of challenges and changes throughout the yoga intervention; (2) I noticed some improvements in my mental and physical health; (3) I made time to discover new strategies to take care of myself; (4) I was able to see what my body is capable of; (5) I was held accountable and I appreciated that, and; (6) I was able to be around similar others in a safe (virtual) space. CONCLUSIONS Findings suggest that an 8-week yoga intervention may offer some benefits for young adults affected by cancer. Self-care, self-compassion, mindfulness, feelings of physical competence, establishing a routine, and being around similar others were viewed as important components of the intervention and may have contributed to the benefits experienced. Findings underscore the potential utility of yoga as a supportive care intervention for young adults affected by cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE A previous study using Scleroderma Patient-centered Intervention Network (SPIN) Cohort data identified five classes of people with systemic sclerosis (also known as scleroderma) based on patient-reported somatic (fatigue, pain, sleep) and mental health (anxiety, depression) symptoms and compared indicators of disease severity between classes. Across four classes ("low", "normal", "high", "very high"), there were progressively worse somatic and mental health outcomes and greater disease severity. The fifth ("high/low") class, however, was characterized by high disease severity, fatigue, pain, and sleep but low mental health symptoms. We evaluated resilience across classes and compared resilience between classes. METHODS Cross-sectional study. SPIN Cohort participants completed the 10-item Connor-Davidson-Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) and PROMIS v2.0 domains between August 2022 and January 2023. We used latent profile modeling to identify five classes as in the previous study and multiple linear regression to compare resilience levels across classes, controlling for sociodemographic and disease variables. RESULTS Mean CD-RISC score (N = 1054 participants) was 27.7 (standard deviation = 7.3). Resilience decreased progressively across "low" to "normal" to "high" to "very high" classes (mean 4.7 points per step). Based on multiple regression, the "high/low" class exhibited higher resilience scores than the "high" class (6.0 points, 95% confidence interval [CI] 4.9 to 7.1 points; standardized mean difference = 0.83, 95% CI 0.67 to 0.98). CONCLUSIONS People with worse disease severity and patient-reported outcomes reported substantially lower resilience, except a class of people with high disease severity, fatigue, pain, and sleep disturbance but positive mental health and high resilience.

Abstract
PURPOSE Explore trial participants' and research team members' perceptions of the impact of the videoconference-based, supportive care program (SPIN-CHAT Program) during early COVID-19 for individuals with systemic sclerosis (SSc). METHODS Data were collected cross-sectionally. A social constructivist paradigm was adopted, and one-on-one videoconference-based, semi-structured interviews were conducted with SPIN-CHAT Trial participants and research team members. A hybrid inductive-deductive approach and reflexive thematic analysis were used. RESULTS Of the 40 SPIN-CHAT Trial participants and 28 research team members approached, 30 trial participants (Mean age = 54.9; SD = 13.0 years) and 22 research team members agreed to participate. Those who took part in interviews had similar characteristics to those who declined. Five themes were identified: (1) The SPIN-CHAT Program conferred a range of positive psychological health outcomes, (2) People who don't have SSc don't get it: The importance of SSc-specific programming, (3) The group-based format of the SPIN-CHAT Program created a safe space to connect and meet similar others, (4) The structure and schedule of the SPIN-CHAT Program reduced feelings of boredom and contributed to enhanced psychological health, (5) The necessity of knowledge, skills, and tools to self-manage SSc and navigate COVID-19. CONCLUSION Participants' and research team members' perspectives elucidated SPIN-CHAT Program benefits and how these benefits may have been realized. Results underscore the importance of social support from similar others, structure, and self-management to enhance psychological health during COVID-19. Abstract
Physical activity is a beneficial, yet complex, health behavior. To ensure more people experience the benefits of physical activity, we develop and test interventions to promote physical activity and its associated benefits. Nevertheless, we continue to see certain groups of people who choose not to, or are unable to, take part in research, resulting in "recruitment bias." In fact, we (and others) are seemingly missing large segments of people and are doing little to promote physical activity research to equity-deserving populations. So, how can we better address recruitment bias in the physical activity research we conduct? Based on our experience, we have identified 5 broad, interrelated, and applicable strategies to enhance recruitment and engagement within physical activity interventions: (1) gain trust, (2) increase community support and participation, (3) consider alternative approaches and designs, (4) rethink recruitment strategies, and (5) incentivize participants. While we recognize there is still a long way to go, and there are broader community and societal issues underlying recruitment to research, we hope this commentary prompts researchers to consider what they can do to try to address the ever-present limitation of "recruitment bias" and support greater participation among equity-deserving groups.

Abstract
PURPOSE Youth diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and their caregiver's experience a myriad of challenges in all domains of health that extend beyond treatment. Yet, little is known about how the cancer experience, and recollections associated with the experience, impact survivorship. We explored pediatric ALL survivors' and their caregivers' autobiographical memories of the cancer experience from diagnosis onwards. METHODS Survivors of ALL, and one of their caregivers, were recruited through a local clinic. Survivors and their caregivers completed a demographic survey and semi-structured, private, one-on-one interviews. Demographic information were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis at the level of the individual and dyad. RESULTS Insights from survivors (N = 19; Mage = 15.3 years) and their caregivers (n = 19; Mage = 45.4 years) were captured. Analyses generated two themes contingent on role (i.e., survivor or caregiver): (1) It is hard to recall my cancer experience and (2) We did as much as we could to manage our child's cancer experience and two unified themes (present in both survivors and their caregivers): (3) It took a village to get through the cancer experience and (4) The cancer diagnosis and experience has had a lasting impact. CONCLUSIONS Findings highlight the varied and long-lasting ways cancer impacts survivors of pediatric ALL and their caregivers. Survivors had difficultly remembering their experience or felt that information was withheld and were acutely aware of their caregiver's distress. Caregivers were cautious and intentionally limited the information they shared. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS Survivors desired to be included within, or told about, decisions related to their healthcare and were acutely aware of their caregiver's distress. Efforts should be made to communicate with survivors (from diagnosis onward) openly and to consider strategies to minimize the short- and long-term impacts of pediatric ALL among survivors and their caregivers.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patient engagement in research is important to ensure research questions address problems important to patients, that research is designed in a way that can effectively answer those questions, and that findings are applicable, relevant, and credible. Yet, patients are rarely involved in the dissemination stage of research. This study explored one way to engage patients in dissemination, through co-presenting research. METHODS Semi-structured, one-on-one, audio-recorded interviews were conducted with researchers and patients who co-presented research at one patient conference (the 2022 Canadian National Scleroderma Conference) in Canada. A pragmatic orientation was adopted, and following verbatim transcription, data were analyzed using conventional content analysis. RESULTS Of 8 researchers who were paired with 7 patients, 5 researchers (mean age = 28 years, SD = 3.6 years) and 5 patients (mean age = 45 years, SD = 14.2 years) participated. Researcher and patient perspectives about their experiences co-presenting and how to improve the experience were captured across 4 main categories: (1) Reasons for accepting the invitation to co-present; (2) Degree that co-presenting expectations were met; (3) The process of co-presenting; and (4) Lessons learned: recommendations for co-presenting. CONCLUSIONS Findings from this study suggest that the co-presenting experience was a rewarding and enjoyable way to tailor research dissemination to patients. We identified a patient-centred approach and meaningful and prolonged patient engagement as essential elements underlying co-presenting success.

Abstract
A greater understanding of how young people cope with a cancer diagnosis is needed in order to inform age-appropriate supportive care. This paper describes the coping strategies used and explores relationships between coping strategies and personal, medical, and psychological variables among young adults (YAs) diagnosed with cancer. YAs (n = 547, mean age = 34.05 ± 6.00 years) completed an online survey, including the Brief COPE and measures of psychological functioning. Descriptive statistics and bivariate correlations were computed. Acceptance, self-distraction, positive reframing, and planning were the most used coping strategies by this sample. There were small (r = -0.09) to large (r = 0.51) significant relationships between personal, medical, and psychological variables and selected coping strategies. Coping with a cancer diagnosis early in life remains poorly understood. Identifying additional correlates and exploring inter- and intrapersonal variation in coping strategy use is required.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cancer is a chronic condition associated with a substantial symptom burden, which can impair recovery after treatment. Investigating interventions with potential to improve self-reported disease and/or treatment effects-known as patient-reported outcomes (PROs)-is paramount to inform cancer care. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of a yoga therapy (YT) intervention on key PROs (ie, cancer-related fatigue, anxiety, cognitive function, depression, stress, quality of life [QoL]) among adults after treatment for cancer. METHODS Data from 20 adults (Mage = 55.74 years, 85% female; Mtime since diagnosis = 2.83 years) who had completed treatment for cancer were analyzed for this study. In this single-subject exploratory experimental study, the YT intervention comprised a 1:1 YT session (ie, 1 participant with 1 yoga therapist) followed by 6 weekly small (ie, 2-3 participants) group YT sessions. Group sessions were facilitated by the same yoga therapist who delivered participants' 1:1 session to ensure an in-depth personalized approach. PROs were assessed before (ie, pre-intervention) and after the 1:1 YT session (ie, during the intervention), as well as after the last group YT session (ie, post-intervention). Hierarchical linear modeling was used to analyze the data. RESULTS Participants showed improvements in cancer-related fatigue, state anxiety, trait anxiety, perceived cognitive impairments, impacts of perceived cognitive impairments on QoL, and 1 dimension of QoL (ie, functional wellbeing) over time. Notably, cancer-related fatigue and state anxiety increased immediately after the 1:1 session, but showed greater improvements over time afterward (ie, during the intervention phase). No changes were observed for the remaining PROs. CONCLUSION Although results require confirmation in future trials, this study highlights the importance of continuing to investigate YT as an intervention to enhance important PROs (ie, cancer-related fatigue and state anxiety) after treatment for cancer. More research is needed to identify additional beneficial effects and factors that influence participants' responses to 1:1 and group YT (ie, moderators and mediators). Abstract
PURPOSE Geographic location plays a significant role in the health and wellbeing of those with cancer. This project explored the impact of rurality and social support on distress and quality of life in young adults (YAs) with cancer in Canada. METHODS The current research analyzed data from the Young Adults with Cancer in Their Prime (YACPRIME) study. Participants completed measures of emotional distress (10-item Kessler Psychological Distress Scale), quality of life (12-item Short-form Health Survey), and social support (Medical Outcomes Study-Social Support Survey). Rural and urban-dwelling survivors were compared using MANOVAs. Bivariate analyses were conducted to explore associations between distress and social support. FINDINGS Of the sample (N = 379), 26% identified their location as rural. Rural YA cancer survivors reported higher distress and worse physical health-related quality of life (HRQOL) than survivors from urban areas but similar levels of mental-health-related quality of life. Social support appeared to have a marginally greater effect on psychosocial outcomes for urban participants. All types of social support were associated with lower levels of distress. However, different types of social support were associated more strongly with distress depending on a participant's geography. CONCLUSIONS Rural-dwelling YA cancer survivors experience significantly more distress and poorer physical HRQOL than urban-dwelling survivors. Different needs and preferences for social support may influence the psychological health of rural cancer survivors. Additional research is needed to determine how best to understand and address distress in rural YAs with cancer.

Abstract
PURPOSE This scoping review describes the assessment methodologies for physical activity (PA) and physical fitness assessments used in studies focusing on adolescents and young adults (AYAs) diagnosed with cancer. METHODS A search of the literature was conducted in PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library following the PRISMA-ScR statement. A total of 34 studies were included in this review. RESULTS PA was primarily assessed via self-reported questionnaires (30/34) either completed in-person (n = 17) or online (n = 13) at different time points and different stages along the cancer trajectory (i.e., from diagnosis onward). A total of 9 studies conducted a physical fitness assessment. CONCLUSIONS PA and physical fitness measurements are key when trying to describe outcomes, assess for associations, track changes, measure intervention adherence, and test intervention efficacy and effectiveness. Considerable heterogeneity across studies was reported limiting the generation of formal recommendations or guidance for researchers, healthcare providers, and policy makers.

Abstract
The SPIN-CHAT Program was designed to support mental health among individuals with systemic sclerosis (SSc; commonly known as scleroderma) and at least mild anxiety symptoms at the onset of COVID-19. The program was formally evaluated in the SPIN-CHAT Trial. Little is known about program and trial acceptability, and factors impacting implementation from the perspectives of research team members and trial participants. Thus, the propose of this follow-up study was to explore research team members' and trial participants' experiences with the program and trial to identify factors impacting acceptability and successful implementation. Data were collected cross-sectionally through one-on-one, videoconference-based, semi-structured interviews with 22 research team members and 30 purposefully recruited trial participants (Mage = 54.9, SD = 13.0 years). A social constructivist paradigm was adopted, and data were analyzed thematically. Data were organized into seven themes: (i) getting started: the importance of prolonged engagement and exceeding expectations; (ii) designing the program and trial: including multiple features; (iii) training: research team members are critical to positive program and trial experiences; (iv) offering the program and trial: it needs to be flexible and patient-oriented; (v) maximizing engagement: navigating and managing group dynamics; (vi) delivering a videoconference-based supportive care intervention: necessary, appreciated, and associated with some barriers; and (vii) refining the program and trial: considering modification when offered beyond the period of COVID-19 restrictions. Trial participants were satisfied with and found the SPIN-CHAT Program and Trial to be acceptable. Results offer implementation data that can guide the design, development, and refinement of other supportive care programs seeking to promote psychological health during and beyond COVID-19.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Aims were to: (1) compare social status among AYAs diagnosed with cancer to a community population; (2) describe AYAs' change in employment/education status; and (3) examine predictors of social status. METHOD Social status (i.e., education, employment, relationship status, and living arrangement) was captured from young adults diagnosed with cancer recruited via social media through a community-based organization from across Canada and randomly matched to a community sample by sex, age, province of residence, total household income and race/ethnicity at a ratio of 1:3. RESULTS AYAs with cancer (N = 622) were an average of 4.45 (SD = 5.42) years from the completion of treatment and were less likely to be employed (χ2 = 96.35, p < 0.001) and more likely to be living at home with parents (χ2 = 17.00, p < 0.001). There were no differences in education or relationship status. Overall, 41% and 45% of AYAs reported quitting school or work, respectively. Non-metastatic disease (AOR 3.23, 95% CI 1.08-9.62), and better physical (AOR 1.07 95% CI 1.04-1.10) and mental quality of life (QOL)(AOR 1.06 95% CI 1.03-1.09), were associated with employment. Worse mental QOL (AOR 1.04 95% CI 1.01-1.07), less post-traumatic growth (AOR 1.01 95% CI 1.00-1.03), and social support (AOR 0.27, 95% CI 0.18-0.41) were associated with being single. Non-White race (AOR 3.19 95% CI 1.02-9.97) and less post-traumatic growth (AOR 0.97 95% CI 0.95-0.99) were associated with living with parents. CONCLUSIONS AYAs diagnosed with cancer experience differences in attainment of employment and independent living compared to a community sample. These challenges may have implications for physical and mental QOL.

Abstract
PURPOSE Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common cancer diagnosed among individuals <14 years of age. The disease and its treatments are associated with negative side effects, including pain, which is both prevalent and distressing. Little is known about pain experiences in this population, which has slowed efforts to identify strategies to mitigate and cope with this adverse effect. This study sought to explore youth's and their caregiver's experiences with, and perspectives of, pain in the context of pediatric cancer treatment. METHODS Youth and one of their caregivers were recruited through (omitted for peer review). Following completion of a demographic survey, youth and one of their caregivers were interviewed separately using a semi-structured, one-on-one interview guide. Demographic information was analyzed with descriptive statistics, and interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. RESULTS Youth (n = 19; Mage = 15.3 years) and caregiver (n = 19; Mage = 45.4 years) perspectives informed 4 themes: (1) my pain experience is nuanced, multidimensional, and is changing over time; (2) the cancer experience has changed the way I experience and respond to pain; (3) I used strategies to manage pain, and not all of them worked; and (4) my pain experience was influenced by people around me. CONCLUSIONS Findings extend prior work, suggesting that pain is common, distressing, multidimensional, and influenced by social context. Results highlight the number of ways in which youth and their caregivers attempt to manage their pain and factors influencing pain experiences. Greater efforts are needed to address pain during cancer treatment and survivorship.

Abstract
Understanding if (and how) adults with cancer perceived their physical activity (PA) levels have changed (or not) since the COVID-19 pandemic and why this may have occurred is important. Given current gaps in knowledge, the purpose of this study was to explore PA experiences among adults with cancer amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Individuals were eligible if they were currently ≥19 years of age, had been diagnosed with cancer ≥18 years of age, and were living in Canada. 113 adults affected by cancer (Mage = 61.9 ± 12.7 years; 68% female) completed the survey which asked closed- and open-ended questions about PA levels and PA engagement experiences. Most participants (n = 76, 67.3%) were not meeting PA guidelines, and reported engaging in, on average, 89.2 ± 138.2 minutes per week of moderate-to-vigorous PA. Participants indicated their PA declined (n = 55, 38.7%), did not change (n = 40, 35.4%), or increased (n = 18, 15.9%) since the start of the pandemic. Participants described their changed PA as due to public health restrictions, lowered motivation during the pandemic, or cancer- and treatment-related effects. For those engaging in similar or greater PA, online home-based and outdoor PA were shared as main forms of PA. Findings suggest PA behavior change support and ongoing access to online, home-based and outdoor PA options will be required as pandemic restrictions ease in this population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Young adults affected by cancer face physical and psychological challenges and desire online supportive care. Yoga can be delivered online and may improve physical and psychological outcomes. Yet, yoga has rarely been studied with young adults affected by cancer. To address this, an 8-week yoga intervention was developed, and a pilot study was deemed necessary to explore feasibility, acceptability, implementation, and potential benefits. METHODS A mixed-methods, single-arm hybrid effectiveness-implementation pilot study evaluating the yoga intervention was conducted. Feasibility was assessed by tracking enrollment, retention, attendance, completeness of data, and adverse events. Acceptability was explored through interviews. Implementation metrics included training time, delivery resources, and fidelity. Potential effectiveness was evaluated by exploring changes in physical (i.e., balance, flexibility, range of motion, functional mobility) and psychological (i.e., quality of life, fatigue, resilience, posttraumatic growth, body image, mindfulness, perceived stress) outcomes at pre- (week 0), post- (week 8), and follow-up (week 16) time points. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, repeated measures analysis of variance, and content analysis. RESULTS Thirty young adults participated in this study (recruitment rate = 33%). Retention to study procedures was 70%, and attendance ranged from 38 to 100%. There were little missing data (< 5%) and no adverse events. Though most participants were satisfied with the yoga intervention, recommendations for improvement were shared. Sixty study-specific training hours and > 240 delivery and assessment hours were accrued and fidelity was high. Functional mobility, flexibility, quality of life (energy/fatigue, social well-being), body image (appearance evaluation), mindfulness (non-reactivity), and perceived stress improved significantly over time (all p< 0.050; [Formula: see text]). No other significant changes were observed (all p> 0.050; [Formula: see text]). CONCLUSIONS The yoga intervention may confer physical and psychological benefits, though intervention and study-specific modifications are required to improve feasibility and acceptability. Requiring study participation and providing greater scheduling flexibility could enhance recruitment and retention. Increasing the frequency of classes offered each week and offering more opportunities for participant interaction could improve satisfaction. This study highlights the value of doing pilot work and provides data that has directly informed intervention and study modifications. Findings could also be used by others offering yoga or supportive care by videoconference to young adults affected by cancer. TRIAL REGISTRATION Not available-not registered.

Abstract
PURPOSE Long COVID, an illness affecting a subset of individuals after COVID-19, is distressing, poorly understood, and reduces quality of life. The objective of this sub-study was to better understand and explore individuals' experiences with long COVID and commonly reported symptoms, using qualitative data collected from open-ended survey responses. METHODS Data were collected from adults living with long COVID who participated in a larger observational online survey. Participants had the option of answering seven open-ended items. Data from the open-ended items were analyzed following guidelines for reflective thematic analysis. RESULTS From 213 participants who were included in the online survey, 169 participants who primarily self-identified as women (88.2%), aged 40-49 (33.1%), who had been experiencing long COVID symptoms for ≥ 6 months (74%) provided open-ended responses. Four overlapping and interconnected themes were identified: (1) Long COVID symptoms are numerous and wearing, (2) The effects of long COVID are pervasive, (3) Physical activity is difficult and, in some cases, not possible, and (4) Asking for help when few are listening, and little is working. CONCLUSION Findings reaffirm prior research, highlighting the complex nature of long COVID. Further, results show the ways individuals affected by the illness are negatively impacted and have had to alter their daily activities. Participants recounted the challenges faced when advocating for themselves, adapting to new limitations, and navigating healthcare systems. The varied relapsing-remitting symptoms, unknown prognosis, and deep sense of loss over one's prior identity suggest interventions are needed to support this population.

Abstract
Background More people with rare diseases likely receive disease education and emotional and practical support from peer-led support groups than any other way. Most rare-disease support groups are delivered outside of the health care system by untrained leaders. Potential benefits may not be achieved and harms, such as dissemination of inaccurate information, may occur. Our primary objective was to evaluate the effects of a rare-disease support group leader education program, which was developed collaboratively by researchers, peer support group leaders, and patient organization leaders, compared to waitlist control, on peer leader self-efficacy among scleroderma support group leaders.
Methods The trial was a pragmatic, two-arm partially nested randomised controlled trial with 1:1 allocation into intervention or waitlist control. Eligible participants were existing or candidate peer support group leaders affiliated with a scleroderma patient organization. Leader training was delivered in groups of 5–6 participants weekly for 13 weeks in 60–90 min sessions via the GoToMeeting® videoconferencing platform. The program included 12 general leader training modules and one module specific to scleroderma. Primary outcome was leader self-efficacy, measured by the Support Group Leader Self-efficacy Scale (SGLSS) immediately post-intervention. Secondary outcomes were leader self-efficacy 3 months post-intervention; emotional distress, leader burnout, and volunteer satisfaction post-intervention and 3 months post-intervention; and program satisfaction among intervention participants post-intervention.
Results One hundred forty-eight participants were randomised to intervention (N = 74) or waitlist (N = 74). Primary outcome data were provided by 146 (99%) participants. Mean number of sessions attended was 11.4 (standard deviation = 2.6). Mean program satisfaction score (CSQ-8) was 30.3 (standard deviation = 3.0; possible range 8–32). Compared to waitlist control, leader self-efficacy was higher post-intervention [SGLSS; 16.7 points, 95% CI 11.0–22.3; standardized mean difference (SMD) 0.84] and 3 months later (15.6 points, 95% CI 10.2–21.0; SMD 0.73); leader volunteer satisfaction was significantly higher at both assessments, emotional distress was lower post-intervention but not 3 months later, and leader burnout was not significantly different at either assessment.
Conclusions Peer support group leader education improved leader self-efficacy substantially. The program could be easily adapted for support group leaders in other rare diseases. Abstract
Physical activity (PA) is important for enhancing and sustaining people's health and well-being. Although a number of efficacious PA interventions have been developed, few have been translated from research into practice. Consequently, the knowledge-to-practice gap continues to grow, leaving many individuals unable to access evidence-based PA opportunities. This gap may be particularly relevant for those who grapple with poor health due to intrapersonal, interpersonal, cultural and system-level barriers that limit their access to evidence-based PA opportunities. Implementation efforts designed to bring research into real-world settings may bridge the knowledge-to-practice gap. Yet, cultivating quality partnerships and ensuring effectiveness, methodological rigour and scalability in real-world settings can be difficult. Furthermore, researchers seldom publish examples of how they addressed these challenges and translated their evidence-based PA opportunities into practice. Herein, we describe three cases of successful PA implementation among diverse populations: (a) individuals affected by cancer, (b) adults living with prediabetes, and (c) children from under-resourced communities. Commonalities across cases include guiding theories and frameworks, the strategies to facilitate and maintain partnerships, and scalability and sustainability plans. Practical tips and recommendations are provided to spur research and translation efforts that consider implementation from the outset, ultimately ensuring that people receive the benefits PA can confer.

Abstract
Yoga may offer benefits for children and adolescents affected by cancer or blood disease, yet there are challenges in translating evidence to practice. Yoga instructors are critical for the delivery of yoga. Understanding yoga instructors' experiences offering yoga to children and adolescents affected by cancer or blood disease could provide information to guide required competencies and training, as well as elucidate factors to consider in future research and programs. Therefore, the present study sought to understand yoga instructors' lived experiences preparing for and facilitating yoga for children and adolescents affected by cancer or blood disease. Fourteen yoga instructors with experience facilitating yoga for this population participated in semi-structured interviews, which were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using principles of interpretive description and thematic analysis. Five unique themes were identified: (1) "I believe in and see the perceived benefits of yoga on and off the mat"; (2) "I feel equipped to deliver yoga but desire further training"; (3) "what I need to deliver a safe yoga program"; (4) "I must be adaptable to successfully facilitate a yoga program"; and (5) "what I need to ensure yoga is widely available." Findings highlight the varied and comprehensive training opportunities yoga instructors sought, while elucidating their training limitations. Yoga instructors shared their perspectives on concerted attention to safety, effectiveness, and access when developing research and programs. This study represents a first step toward defining required competencies for delivering yoga to this population and lays the foundation for future research and programs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Following cancer treatment, adults commonly report worsened patient-reported outcomes (PROs) such as anxiety, stress, depression, persistent and upsetting cognitive complaints, unrelenting fatigue, and reduced quality of life. Poorer PROs are associated with disrupted autonomic nervous system functioning as measured by heart rate variability (HRV), both of which have been associated with greater morbidity and mortality. Interventions to improve HRV and PROs among adults following cancer treatment are needed. Yoga therapy holds promise as an intervention to improve HRV and PROs. Therefore, we conducted a single-subject exploratory experimental study to investigate the effects of yoga therapy on HRV and specific PROs (ie, cancer-related fatigue, anxiety, cognitive function, depression, stress, quality of life) in adults treated for cancer. To reduce publication bias, improve reproducibility, and serve as a reference for forthcoming reporting of study results, we present the study protocol for this study herein. METHODS Participants were adults who completed cancer treatment that were recruited from the Ottawa Integrative Cancer Centre. Consenting and eligible participants received one 1:1 yoga therapy session (ie, 1 participant, 1 Yoga Therapist) and 6 weekly group-based yoga therapy sessions (ie, 2-3 participants, 1 Yoga Therapist). Participants completed assessments 7 times: 3 times prior to the program (ie, -6 weeks, -3 weeks, immediately prior to the 1:1 yoga therapy session), immediately following the 1:1 yoga therapy session, prior to the first group-based yoga therapy session, after the last group-based yoga therapy session, and at a 6-week follow-up. Hierarchical linear modeling will be used to test the average effects of the yoga therapy program across participants. DISCUSSION This study will explore several novel hypotheses, including whether yoga therapy can improve HRV and/or specific PROs among adults treated for cancer acutely (ie, during a 1:1 yoga therapy session) and/or through repeated exposure (ie, after completing 6 weeks of group-based yoga therapy). Although the findings will require confirmation or refutation in future trials, they may provide initial evidence that YT may benefit adults treated for cancer. Abstract
Background: Cognitive impairment is common among adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors. Physical activity (PA) may help mitigate cognitive impairment post-treatment by positively impacting two indicators of general brain health: fractional anisotropy (FA) and functional connectivity (FC). As part of a two-arm, mixed-methods pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT), this sub-study was designed to provide preliminary proof-of-concept evidence for the effects of PA on FA and FC among AYA cancer survivors post-treatment to help inform decisions about proceeding to larger trials. Methods: AYA cancer survivors who had completed cancer treatment and who were enrolled in a larger pilot RCT comparing a 12-week PA intervention to a waitlist control group, were invited to participate in this sub-study. Sub-study participants completed diffusion tensor imaging and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging prior to randomization and post-intervention. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, independent component analysis, and paired sample t-tests. Results: Post-intervention, participants showed increases in FA of the bilateral hippocampal cingulum, left anterior corona radiata, middle cingulum, left anterior thalamic radiation, and left cerebellum. A decrease in overall FC of the default mode network and increases in the cerebellar and visual networks were also noted post-intervention (p < .05). Conclusion: Results provide preliminary evidence for the possible positive effects of PA on FA and FC among AYA cancer survivors post-treatment. On the basis of these results, larger trials assessing the effects of PA on specific brain health indicators, as captured by FA and FC, among AYA cancer survivors are appropriate and warranted.

Abstract
Research examining the link between media attention and breast cancer concern has been frequently conducted with middle/old-age women, even though young women (<40 years old) have been overrepresented media stories about breast cancer. Accordingly, little is known about young women's emotional reactions to breast cancer media messages and the psychological factors modulating such reactions. This study examined the impact of breast cancer media messages and cognitive fusion on negative affect, fear of breast cancer (FBC), and perceived susceptibility to breast cancer. 207 young women were randomly assigned to watch a low- or high-threat video about breast cancer. A MANCOVA revealed that participants who viewed the high-threat video reported greater negative affect and perceived susceptibility, but not FBC; however, participants in both conditions showed moderate/high FBC. Correlational analyses and a MANOVA showed that participants reporting higher cognitive fusion reported higher negative affect across conditions, as well as higher FBC in the high-threat condition. Taken together, these results suggest that young women may show habituation to alarmist media messages, but may nonetheless construe breast cancer as a significant threat. Moreover, young women showing medium/high cognitive fusion seem more likely to show heightened concern upon exposure to alarmist media messages about breast cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Systemic sclerosis (scleroderma; SSc) is a rare autoimmune connective tissue disease. We completed an initial feasibility trial of an online self-administered version of the Scleroderma Patient-centered Intervention Network Self-Management (SPIN-SELF) Program using the cohort multiple randomized controlled trial (RCT) design. Due to low intervention offer uptake, we will conduct a new feasibility trial with progression to full-scale trial, using a two-arm parallel, partially nested RCT design. The SPIN-SELF Program has also been revised to include facilitator-led videoconference group sessions in addition to online material. We will test the group-based intervention delivery format, then evaluate the effect of the SPIN-SELF Program on disease management self-efficacy (primary) and patient activation, social appearance anxiety, and functional health outcomes (secondary). METHODS This study is a feasibility trial with progression to full-scale RCT, pending meeting pre-defined criteria, of the SPIN-SELF Program. Participants will be recruited from the ongoing SPIN Cohort ( http://www.spinsclero.com/en/cohort ) and via social media and partner patient organizations. Eligible participants must have SSc and low to moderate disease management self-efficacy (Self-Efficacy for Managing Chronic Disease (SEMCD) Scale score ≤ 7.0). Participants will be randomized (1:1 allocation) to the group-based SPIN-SELF Program or usual care for 3 months. The primary outcome in the full-scale trial will be disease management self-efficacy based on SEMCD Scale scores at 3 months post-randomization. Secondary outcomes include SEMCD scores 6 months post-randomization plus patient activation, social appearance anxiety, and functional health outcomes at 3 and 6 months post-randomization. We will include 40 participants to assess feasibility. At the end of the feasibility portion, stoppage criteria will be used to determine if the trial procedures or SPIN-SELF Program need important modifications, thereby requiring a re-set for the full-scale trial. Otherwise, the full-scale RCT will proceed, and outcome data from the feasibility portion will be utilized in the full-scale trial. In the full-scale RCT, 524 participants will be recruited. DISCUSSION The SPIN-SELF Program may improve disease management self-efficacy, patient activation, social appearance anxiety, and functional health outcomes in people with SSc. Abstract
Background Physical activity (PA) interventions can increase PA and improve well-being among adults affected by cancer; however, most adults do not meet cancer-specific PA recommendations. Lack of time, facility access, and travel distances are barriers to participation in PA interventions. eHealth technologies may address some of these barriers, serving as a viable way to promote PA behavior change in this population. However, no review from July 2018 has synthesized available evidence across eHealth and cancer types or examined the use of behavioral theory and behavior change techniques (BCTs), leaving important gaps in knowledge. Objective This review aims to provide a comprehensive, updated overview of evidence on eHealth PA interventions for adults with cancer by describing the current state of the literature, exploring associations between intervention characteristics and effectiveness, and identifying future research needs. Methods MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, SportDiscus, Scopus, and CENTRAL were searched for eHealth PA interventions for adults affected by cancer. Study selection and data extraction were performed in duplicate, with consultation from the senior author (NCR). BCT coding, risk of bias, and completeness of reporting were performed using standardized tools. Results were summarized via narrative synthesis and harvest plots. Weight analyses were conducted to explore the associations between intervention characteristics and effectiveness. Results A total of 71 articles (67 studies) involving 6655 participants (mean age 56.7 years, SD 8.2) were included. Nearly 50% (32/67) of the articles were published after July 2018. Significant postintervention PA increases were noted in 52% (35/67) of the studies, and PA maintenance was noted in 41% (5/12) of the studies that included a follow-up. Study duration, primary objectives, and eHealth modality (eg, websites, activity trackers, and SMS text messaging) varied widely. Social cognitive theory (23/67, 34%) was the most used theory. The mean number of BCTs used across the studies was 13.5 (SD 5.5), with self-monitoring, credible sources, and goal setting being used in >90% of studies. Weight analyses showed the greatest associations between increased PA levels and PA as a primary outcome (0.621), interventions using websites (0.656) or mobile apps (0.563), interventions integrating multiple behavioral theories (0.750), and interventions using BCTs of problem solving (0.657) and action planning (0.645). All studies had concerns with high risk of bias, mostly because of the risk of confounding, measurement bias, and incomplete reporting. Conclusions A range of eHealth PA interventions may increase PA levels among adults affected by cancer, and specific components (eg, websites, use of theory, and action planning) may be linked to greater effectiveness. However, more work is needed to ascertain and optimize effectiveness, measure long-term effects, and address concerns with bias and incomplete reporting. This evidence is required to support arguments for integrating eHealth within PA promotion in oncology.

Abstract
Background Executive functioning (EF) deficits are troubling for adolescents and young adults (AYAs) after cancer treatment. Physical activity (PA) may enhance neural activity underlying EF among older adults affected by cancer. Establishing whether PA enhances neural activity among AYAs is warranted. As part of a two-arm, mixed-methods pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT), this proof-of-concept sub-study sought to answer the following questions: (1) is it feasible to use neuroimaging with EF tasks to assess neural activity changes following a 12-week PA intervention? And (2) is there preliminary evidence that a 12-week PA intervention enhances neural activity among AYAs after cancer treatment? Methods AYAs in the pilot RCT were approached for enrollment into this sub-study. Those who were eligible and enrolled, completed functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) with EF tasks (letter n-back, Go/No Go) pre- and post-PA intervention. Sub-study enrollment, adherence to scheduled fMRI scans, outliers, missing data, and EF task performance data were collected. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) analyses, and paired sample t-tests. Results Nine eligible participants enrolled into this sub-study; six attended scheduled fMRI scans. One outlier was identified and was subsequently removed from the analytical sample. Participants showed no differences in EF task performance from pre- to post-PA intervention. Increases in neural activity in brain regions responsible for motor control, information encoding and processing, and decision-making were observed post-PA intervention (p < 0.05; n = 5). Conclusions Findings show that fMRI scans during EF tasks detected neural activity changes (as assessed by the BOLD signal) from pre- to post-PA intervention. Results thus suggest future trials confirming that PA enhances neural activity underlying EF are needed, though feasibility issues require careful consideration to ensure trial success. Abstract
Physical activity (PA) and exercise are safe and beneficial for children and
adolescents affected by cancer. Yet, this population is not active enough to
receive benefits. PA guideline and recommendation statements can support
individual behavior and practice change. The purpose of this project was to
develop the international Pediatric Oncology Exercise Guidelines (iPOEG),
comprised of guideline and recommendation statements, to promote PA among
children and adolescents affected by cancer. Guideline development procedures,
stakeholder engagement strategies, and the Delphi technique were used. Four
online surveys were distributed to the iPOEG network (n = 9
core team members, n = 122 expert consensus committee members).
Surveys included closed- and open-ended items informed by a literature synthesis
and an in-person meeting. Responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics
and content analysis. Consensus was defined as ≥ 80% agreement. Response
rates to online surveys ranged from 82% to 91%. The iPOEG network agreed on four
guideline and five recommendation statements, which highlight that movement is
important for all children and adolescents affected by cancer. These statements
are generic in nature as more research is still required to provide specific
guidance on the frequency, intensity, time, and type of PA for this population.
Nevertheless, the iPOEG statements represent available evidence and expert
opinion, collectively suggesting that it is time for children and adolescents
affected by cancer to move more. Physical activity is safe and beneficial for children and adolescents affected by
cancer. Yet, most are not active enough to receive benefits. Guideline and
recommendation statements can help change individual behavior and practice. To
develop such statements, guideline development procedures, stakeholder
engagement strategies, and the Delphi technique were used. Four online surveys

Abstract
Background No trials have tested multifaceted mental health interventions recommended by public health organisations during COVID-19. The objective of this trial was to evaluate the effect of the Scleroderma Patient-centered Intervention Network COVID-19 Home-isolation Activities Together (SPIN-CHAT) Program on anxiety symptoms and other mental health outcomes among people vulnerable during COVID-19 owing to a pre-existing medical condition. Methods The SPIN-CHAT Trial was a pragmatic, two-arm, parallel, partially nested, randomised, controlled trial (1:1 allocation to intervention or waitlist). Eligible participants with systemic sclerosis were recruited from the international SPIN COVID-19 Cohort. SPIN COVID-19 Cohort participants were eligible for the trial if they completed baseline measures and had at least mild anxiety symptoms, had not tested positive for COVID-19, and were not currently receiving mental health counselling. SPIN-CHAT is a 4-week (3 sessions per week) videoconference-based group intervention that provided education and practice with mental health coping strategies, and provided social support to reduce isolation. Groups included 6-10 participants. The primary outcome analysed in the intention-to-treat population was anxiety symptoms (PROMIS Anxiety 4a version 1.0) immediately post-intervention. This trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT04335279 and is complete. Findings Of participants who completed baseline measures between April 9, 2020, and April 27, 2020, 560 participants were eligible and 172 participants were randomly assigned to intervention (n=86) or waitlist (n=86). Mean age was 55·0 years (SD 11·4 years), 162 (94%) were women, and 136 (79%) identified as White. In intention-to-treat analyses, the intervention did not significantly reduce anxiety symptoms post-intervention (-1·57 points, 95% CI -3·59 to 0·45; standardised mean difference [SMD] -0·22 points) but reduced symptoms 6 weeks later (-2·36 points, 95% CI -4·56 to -0·16; SMD -0·31). Depression symptoms were significantly lower 6 weeks post-intervention (-1·64 points, 95% CI -2·91 to -0·37; SMD -0·31); no other secondary outcomes were significant. No adverse events were reported. Interpretation The intervention did not significantly improve anxiety symptoms or other mental health outcomes post-intervention. However, anxiety and depression symptoms were significantly lower 6 weeks later, potentially capturing the time it took for new skills and social support between intervention participants to affect mental health. Multi-faceted interventions such as SPIN-CHAT have potential to address mental health needs in vulnerable groups during COVID-19, yet uncertainty remains about effectiveness. Abstract
Physical activity (PA), including exercise, is safe and beneficial for children and adolescents affected by cancer. Yet, no efforts have been made to collate the breadth of review and experimental articles exploring the effects of PA in this cohort. Thus, a scoping review of review and experimental articles reporting on the effects of PA for children and adolescents affected by cancer was undertaken. Review and experimental articles published in English, summarizing or reporting on the effects of PA interventions for children and adolescents affected by cancer were included. Articles were identified through prior literature, systematic searching, reference list scanning, stakeholder engagement, and a database update. Data were extracted, collated, assessed for quality (reviews) or risk of bias (experimental articles), and summarized narratively. A total of 1,380 articles were identified; 20 review and 69 experimental articles were included. Articles explored PA behavior, physical, psychosocial, cognitive, and "other" outcomes. Improvements, no change, or mixed results were reported across the majority of outcomes explored. Two PA-related adverse events (e.g., a treatable injury, fatigue) were described. Included articles varied greatly in quality and risk of bias. Findings confirm that PA for children and adolescents affected by cancer is a rapidly growing field. More adequately powered research, focused on priority outcomes, adopting appropriate study designs, and adhering to reporting standards is required. Addressing these gaps will enable a better understanding of the effects of PA. Nevertheless, the literature confirms moving more is beneficial and safe for children and adolescents affected by cancer.

Abstract
PURPOSE Adults with Parkinson's disease (PD) experience debilitating symptoms that may be mitigated by boxing. Yet, attrition from boxing programs is problematic. Understanding whether PD-specific boxing programs can enhance motivation to remain physically active is important. This study investigated adults' experiences within a PD-specific boxing program and explored their perspectives on how the program has influenced physical activity motivational processes using a self-determination theory (SDT) lens. Methods: Nine adults with PD who took part in the Boxing 4 Health PD-specific boxing program completed face-to-face, semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed using a hybrid approach of inductive and deductive thematic analysis. Results: The analysis yielded five themes: (1) I made an informed decision to participate and it feels good, (2) Boxing helps me stay active and keep moving, (3) To keep me going, the boxing program needs to have variety and allow for input, (4) A program that can be adapted to me is important, and (5) The instructor and the group facilitate my continued participation in the program. Conclusion: Providing participants with adapted exercises, varied sessions, and opportunities to provide input in a group-based PD-specific boxing program may be conducive to enhancing motivation for physical activity. Further, SDT may be a useful theoretical framework for developing and evaluating PD-specific programs.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONAdults with Parkinson's disease (PD) have many reasons for not engaging in physical activity, including a lack of motivation.A group-based PD-specific boxing program may be conducive to increasing motivation for physical activity.Professionals should consider: (1) educating adults with PD on the benefits of boxing, (2) offering group-based PD-specific boxing programs that are adaptable, varied, and open to input, and (3) fostering social support and networking opportunities within such programs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Physical activity (PA) is an integral part of healthcare for the general population and individuals with psychiatric disorders. However, PA is significantly more complex for and related to both healthy (e.g., reduced anxiety and depressive symptoms) and unhealthy outcomes (e.g., intrusive, repetitive thoughts that lead to abnormally high levels of PA) among women with an eating disorder (ED). Consequently, many healthcare professionals recommend abstinence from PA during ED treatment. Despite this, women may remain engaged in PA during ED treatment or resume PA shortly thereafter. Little has been done to understand women's PA behaviors and attitudes and to explore how they integrate PA into their lives during and after ED treatment. Thus, this study sought to explore PA behaviors and attitudes among women with an ED. METHODS Nine women who self-reported receiving an ED diagnosis participated in semi-structured interviews, which were transcribed and analysed thematically. RESULTS Six interrelated themes were constructed to represent participants' PA experiences: PA as a lifestyle, PA can be beneficial, How I feel when I can't do PA, Being cautious about PA, Reactions to healthcare professionals' practice of recommending abstinence from PA during ED treatment, and PA programming thoughts. CONCLUSIONS Overcoming dysfunctional PA behaviors (e.g., engaging in abnormally high levels of PA) and attitudes (e.g., associating PA with caloric expenditure) can be a long and complicated journey for women with an ED. Nevertheless, women with an ED want PA to be integrated into their ED treatment protocol for two key reasons, namely to accrue the benefits associated with PA and to learn how to engage in PA in adaptive and healthy ways.

Abstract
The field of pediatric exercise oncology explores the relationships between physical activity (PA), including exercise, and a range of outcomes among children and adolescents affected by cancer. Although PA is safe and beneficial for this population, several important gaps in knowledge and practice remain. In this article, we describe research and innovation needs that were developed with a team of international experts and relevant literature, a series of online surveys, and an in-person meeting. Addressing these needs will contribute valuable knowledge and practice outputs to advance this field, ultimately enabling a greater number of children and adolescents affected by cancer to realize the benefits of moving more.

Abstract
Survivors of childhood cancer are at risk of experiencing fatigue, pain, lower levels of physical activity, increased engagement in risky health behavior, and poor social adjustment, after finishing treatment. Risks are more pronounced for survivors of specific diagnoses or receiving specific treatment protocols. Interventions to address these outcomes are in their infancy. Future research should focus on exploring the antecedents and consequences of these outcomes. In the meantime, researchers and cancer centers should attempt to provide high-quality and accessible health information to survivors through various media outlets to encourage healthy behaviors.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To synthesize knowledge regarding the effect of health care provider-delivered physical activity interventions on cancer survivors' physical activity behaviour. METHODS Ten electronic databases were searched for articles reporting on the effect of health care provider-delivered physical activity interventions on cancer survivors' physical activity behaviour. Articles were included if they met the following criteria: English-language, participants were adult cancer survivors, the effect of health care provider-delivered physical activity interventions on physical activity behaviour was assessed, and physical activity behaviour was measured at least twice. Data were extracted and summarized descriptively. RESULTS Seventeen articles representing 11 studies met inclusion criteria. Two studies reported within-person increases in physical activity behaviour and one reported decreases. Nine studies reported between-group differences in physical activity behaviour favouring the intervention group. CONCLUSIONS Health care provider-delivered physical activity interventions may increase cancer survivors' physical activity behaviour. However, increases may depend on administering additional behaviour change techniques and resources. Given the limited number of studies, degree of heterogeneity, and high level of bias observed, more research is needed to ascertain the effect of health care provider-delivered interventions on cancer survivors' physical activity behaviour and to compare different interventions.

Abstract
PURPOSE Moderate-to-vigorous-intensity physical activity (PA) can alleviate many adverse side effects and symptoms caused by cancer treatments; yet, most cancer survivors are insufficiently active. Evidence shows that theory-based PA behavior change interventions are more effective than non-theory-based interventions; thus, it is necessary to ascertain modifiable theoretical factors associated with moderate-to-vigorous-intensity PA among cancer survivors. Drawing on the health belief model (HBM), the associations between moderate-to-vigorous-intensity PA and (1) perceived susceptibility to cancer recurrence and health problems, (2) perceived severity of cancer recurrence and health problems, (3) perceived benefits of PA for reducing risk of cancer recurrence and health problems, (4) perceived barriers to PA, and (5) PA barrier self-efficacy among cancer survivors were examined. METHODS A total of 123 adult cancer survivors (Mage = 50.1 ± 15.5 years; 82.9% female) completed an online self-report survey assessing sociodemographic and medical characteristics, moderate-to-vigorous-intensity PA, and the HBM constructs. Data were analyzed descriptively and using hierarchical linear regression analysis. RESULTS After adjusting for age, sex, body mass index, time since cancer diagnosis, and treatments received, the HBM constructs collectively explained 29% of the variance in moderate-to-vigorous-intensity PA. Perceived benefits of PA (β = .20, 95% CI [1.81, 11.67], p = .007) and PA barrier self-efficacy (β = .42, 95% CI [0.26, 0.53], p < .001) were significantly associated with moderate-to-vigorous-intensity PA. CONCLUSION Raising awareness of the benefits of PA for reducing risk of cancer recurrence and health problems and strengthening self-efficacy to overcome PA barriers may help to promote cancer survivors' attainment of moderate-to-vigorous-intensity PA guidelines.

Abstract
Background. Cancer survivors must manage a range of adverse symptoms and side effects postdiagnosis. These effects often co-occur with preexisting comorbid conditions. Recognizing the complex chronicity of the disease, self-management support interventions have been developed to promote cancer survivors' knowledge, skills, and confidence to self-manage their health. Though shown to be beneficial, the processes underlying self-management have yet to be explicated. Aim. To explore how a community-based self-management support intervention fosters cancer survivors' knowledge, confidence, and skills to self-manage their health. Method. A qualitative case study adopting multiple viewpoints was utilized. Seventeen cancer survivors who participated in a self-management support intervention (referred to as a cancer coaching program) were interviewed and six program staff took part in a focus group. Transcripts from the interviews and focus group were analyzed using a hybrid inductive-deductive approach guided by principles of qualitative description. Results. Cancer survivors and program staff offered complementary perspectives that enhanced our understanding of how the self-management support intervention fosters cancer survivors' knowledge, confidence, and skills to self-manage their health. Four themes captured strategies necessary to promote self-management: (1) looking beyond the disease: the importance of holistic person-centered care, (2) cocreating plans: the key to effective and meaningful self-management support, (3) fostering activation via tailored, targeted, and expert-sourced information and resources, and (4) having dependable and impartial emotional support. Within each theme, pertinent self-management support strategies were described by cancer survivors and program staff. Discussion and Conclusion. Findings offer an understanding of how one community-based self-management support intervention promotes self-management and highlight valuable self-management support strategies that could be incorporated into existing and future interventions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Physical activity confers many physical and psychosocial benefits for adolescent and young adult cancer survivors, yet most are not active enough to accrue benefits. Parental support for physical activity may be important to consider when exploring factors that influence physical activity in this population. PURPOSE Explore adolescent and young adult cancer survivors' experiences of parental support for physical activity received and their parents' experiences of support provided. METHODS Ten adolescent and young adult cancer survivors (Mage = 17.4 ± 3.2 years; 70% male) and one of their parents (50% fathers) were interviewed separately. Data were analyzed thematically. RESULTS Participants' experiences were summarized into three main themes: (1) the basics - instrumental, informational, and emotional support, (2) companionship support - doing it together, and (3) role modeling - a double-edged sword. In general, there was congruence between participants' perceptions of the types of support provided and received for physical activity. However, parents felt their role was to provide instrumental, informational, and emotional support, whereas adolescent and young adult cancer survivors emphasized the importance of companionship support. CONCLUSIONS Findings underscore the complexity of parental support for physical activity among adolescent and young adult cancer survivors. Developing and testing resources to empower adolescent and young adult cancer survivors to ask for parental support and to enable parents to support their child's physical activity is imperative.Implications for RehabilitationMany adolescent and young adult cancer survivors do not participate in enough physical activity to acquire physical and psychosocial benefits.Parental support may represent a key factor that influences physical activity participation.Rehabilitation professionals should consider the influence parents may have on adolescent and young adult cancer survivors' physical well-being post-diagnosis.Promoting co-participation may be a viable strategy to enhance physical activity participation among adolescent and young adult cancer survivors.

Abstract
Background Adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors (i.e. individuals diagnosed with cancer between 15 and 39 years and who completed treatment) may benefit from physical activity. Yet, few researchers have explored the effects of physical activity on physical and psychological outcomes among AYA cancer survivors. A pilot study exploring the feasibility and acceptability of a physical activity intervention and proposed trial methods to inform a definitive randomized controlled trial (RCT) is therefore necessary to fill this gap. Methods A two-arm, mixed-methods pilot RCT was conducted. Participants were randomized to a wait-list control group or a 12-week physical activity intervention comprised of 4 weekly aerobic and strength training sessions (intervention group). Feasibility measures included: number of AYA cancer survivors referred/self-referred, eligible, and recruited, retention to the trial (i.e. assessment completion), adherence to the physical activity intervention, and percentage of missing data for baseline (week 0), mid- (week 6), and post-intervention assessments (week 12). The acceptability of trial methods (all participants) and the intervention (intervention group only) was assessed via qualitative interviews post-intervention. Results Over a 12-month period, 31 AYA cancer survivors were referred/self-referred and 16 were eligible and consented to participate. Retention to the trial was 94% and adherence to the physical activity intervention ranged from 50 to 92%. With the exception of the assessment of aerobic capacity and directly measured physical activity behaviour, there were no missing data. Participants generally reported being satisfied with the trial methods and intervention; however, issues related to delivery of the physical activity intervention were identified. Conclusions The methods and intervention piloted require modification and further pilot testing in advance of a definitive RCT. Recruitment strategies identifying a greater number of younger AYA cancer survivors who have different types of cancers and who lack motivation to participate in physical activity-based studies should be explored. Refining the assessments of directly measured physical activity behaviour and aerobic capacity and incorporating behavioural support into the intervention may improve feasibility and acceptability. This study highlights the value of doing pilot work and provides critically useful data that can be used to refine studies seeking to assess causation and optimize physical activity interventions for AYA cancer survivors. Abstract
Abstract
An immunoassay for detection of a specific genetically modified soybean (Roundup-Ready®) was validated on dried soybean powder in an interlaboratory study. Different percentages of genetically modified soybeans in nonmodified soybean matrix were evaluated in a blind study. Thirty-eight laboratories from 13 countries participated. The immunoassay was evaluated for 2 endpoints: (1) To give a semiquantitative result, i.e., determination of a given sample above or below a given threshold, or (2) to compute a quantitative result, i.e., percentage of genetically modified soybeans in the sample. Semiquantitative results showed that a given sample which contained <2% genetically modified soybeans was identified as below 2% with a 99% confidence level. Quantitative use of the assay resulted in a repeatability (r) and reproducibility (R) that were computed to be RSDr = 7% and RSDR = 10%, respectively, for a sample containing 2% genetically modified soybeans. Application of this method depends on availability of appropriate reference materials for a specific food matrix. Only matrix-matched reference materials can be used for analysis of food or food fractions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES (a) Describe levels of physical and global self-esteem and (b) explore the relationships between these types of self-esteem and physical activity (PA) behaviour, self-efficacy for PA and physical self-perceptions among adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors. METHODS A total of 87 AYA cancer survivors (Mage = 32.90 ± 4.38 years), who were on average 2.08 ± 1.37 years post-treatment, participated in this cross-sectional observational study. Descriptive statistics, correlations and hierarchical multivariate linear regression analyses were used to analyse the data. RESULTS Moderate levels of physical and global self-esteem were reported. Both types of self-esteem were significantly related to physical self-perceptions, but not to PA behaviour nor self-efficacy for PA. Self-efficacy for PA moderated the relationship between physical self-perceptions and physical self-esteem, such that the association between physical self-perceptions and physical self-esteem was of stronger magnitude at higher levels of self-efficacy for PA than at lower levels of self-efficacy for PA. CONCLUSION This study provides a starting point for describing self-esteem and identifying the circumstances under which self-esteem may be optimised among AYA cancer survivors. Fostering feelings of confidence, competence and control over PA may help to promote psychological well-being among AYA cancer survivors.

Abstract
This study explored the factor structure of four subscales from the Physical Self-Description Questionnaire-Short Form (PSDQ-S). Associations between subscales and personal and medical factors were also examined. The analytic sample consisted of 89 survivors of adolescent and young adult cancer (Mage at time of study = 32.96 ± 4.37 years; Mage at diagnosis = 31.16 ± 4.84 years; 75.3% female). Confirmatory factor analysis suggested a reasonable fit to the data, indicating that the PSDQ-S subscales examined could be used in future investigations with this population [χ2(38) = 46.9, p = 0.15; Root Mean Square Error of Approximation = 0.05, 90% confidence interval = 0-0.10; Comparative Fit Index = 0.97; Standardized Root Mean Square of the Residuals = 0.07]. Multiple linear regressions showed that personal and medical factors accounted for a significant amount of variance in the body fat subscale, with female sex and higher body mass index being significantly associated with lower positive perceptions about the amount of one's body fat. More research examining the factor structure of the PSDQ-S subscales is warranted, and future investigations exploring personal, medical, and modifiable factors associated with physical self-perceptions should be conducted.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Physical activity can improve health, functional capacity, and quality of life among children and adults diagnosed with cancer. Physical activity may also offer important benefits to adolescents and young adults diagnosed with cancer (AYAs). We conducted a scoping review to: determine the extent, range, and nature of published studies on physical activity among AYAs; identify knowledge gaps; and provide directions for future research. METHODS We searched 4 electronic databases for published studies. Two authors independently scanned the titles, abstracts, and full-texts against inclusion criteria: original research with humans, published in an English-language peer-reviewed journal, ≥50% of participants were diagnosed with cancer between the ages of 15 and 39 years, and included at least 1 measure of physical activity behavior. Data were extracted from studies meeting these criteria and subsequently summarized narratively. RESULTS Our search yielded 4729 articles; 32 met inclusion criteria. These included 18 cross-sectional and 4 longitudinal studies that explored descriptive (ie, sociodemographic or medical), physical, personal/psychological, social, other health behaviors, and/or other factors as antecedents or correlates of physical activity. The remaining 10 were intervention studies that focused on changing physical activity behavior or on testing the effects of physical activity. CONCLUSIONS We can conclude that physical activity is not well researched among AYAs. More high-quality research adopting longitudinal or intervention study designs that incorporate a range of descriptive, physical, personal/psychological, social, and environmental measures are warranted to better inform the development of behavior change interventions as well as to establish the benefits of physical activity for AYAs.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of the study was to explore the relationship between repressive adaptive style and self-reports of social adjustment in survivors of pediatric cancer compared to their siblings. We hypothesized that there would be a greater proportion of repressors among survivors of pediatric cancer compared to siblings, and that repressive adaptive style would be significantly associated with more positive self-reports of social adjustment. METHODS We utilized a cross-sectional approach. Seventy-seven families participated. Survivors of pediatric cancer (n = 77, 48% male; 8-18 years of age) and one sibling (n = 50, 48% male; 8-18 years of age) completed measures assessing repressive adaptive style and social adjustment. As well, one parent from each family completed a socio-demographic questionnaire. Questionnaire packages were mailed to eligible families who agreed to participate, and were mailed back to investigators in a pre-addressed, pre-stamped envelope. RESULTS Chi-square analyses revealed there was no significant difference in the proportion of repressors among survivors and siblings. Social adjustment scores were subjected to a two (group: survivor, sibling) by two (repressor, nonrepressor) ANCOVA with gender and age as covariates. There was a significant main effect of repressive adaptive style (F = 5.69, p < .05, η2 = 0.05) with a modest effect. Survivors and siblings with a repressive style reported significantly higher social adjustment scores (M = 106.91, SD = 11.69) compared to nonrepressors (M = 99.57, SD = 13.45). CONCLUSIONS Repressive adaptive style explains some of the variance in survivors and siblings' self-reports of social adjustment. Future research should aim to better understand the role of the repressive adaptive style in survivors and siblings of children with cancer.

Abstract
Qualitative research on the impact of physical activity on quality of life (QoL) in adults diagnosed with cancer is accumulating. However, the field of physical activity and cancer survivorship lack a synthesis of this research to reliably understand the implications for future research and practice. The aim of this meta-synthesis was to identify, appraise, and synthesize qualitative research on cancer survivors’ perspectives of the impact of physical activity on their QoL. Seven electronic databases were searched for original studies published in English, and reference lists of relevant studies were hand-searched to identify additional studies. Forty studies met eligibility criteria and were included in this meta-synthesis. Study characteristics and major findings were extracted, and findings were summarized, compared, and synthesized. Themes identified in this review revealed that physical activity positively impacted four dimensions of cancer survivors’ QoL: physical (e.g., managing the physical consequences of cancer and its treatment), psychological (e.g., evoking positive self-perceptions), social (e.g., feeling understood by others), and spiritual (e.g., redefining life purpose). This meta-synthesis corroborates conclusions from reviews of quantitative research and illustrates that physical activity can be used to improve QoL in adult cancer survivors, regardless of diagnosis (i.e., stage, cancer type) and treatment status. It also provides detailed insight into specific aspects within each dimension of QoL impacted by physical activity from cancer survivors’ perspectives, which is important for understanding the meaning and utility of physical activity for them. However, more research is needed to further develop the qualitative evidence base in order to better understand how physical activity impacts on QoL experiences in men, young adults, and adults diagnosed with less common types of cancer at different points along cancer trajectory (i.e., diagnosis, treatment, post-treatment, palliation).

Abstract
Physical activity is increasingly being studied as a way to improve psychosocial outcomes (e.g., quality of life, self-efficacy, physical self-perceptions, self-esteem, body image, posttraumatic growth) among survivors of adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer. Assessing levels of and associations between self-reported physical activity and psychosocial outcomes requires clear, appropriate, and relevant questionnaires. To explore how survivors of AYA cancer interpreted and responded to the following eight published questionnaires: Leisure Time Exercise Questionnaire, Exercise Self-Efficacy Scale, Physical Self-Description Questionnaire, Rosenberg Global Self-Esteem Scale, Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire, Posttraumatic Growth Inventory, Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General (FACT-G), RAND 36-Item Health Survey 1.0 (RAND-36), cognitive interviews were conducted with three men and four women age 18-36 years who were diagnosed with cancer at age 16-35 years. Initially, the first seven questionnaires listed above were assessed. Summaries of the interviews were prepared and compared across participants. Potential concerns were identified with the FACT-G; thus, a second interview was conducted with participants to explore the clarity, appropriateness, and relevance of the RAND-36. Concerns identified for the FACT-G related mostly to the lack of relevance of items pertaining to cancer-specific aspects of quality of life given that participants were posttreatment. No or few concerns related to comprehension and/or structure/logic were identified for the other questionnaires. In general, the questionnaires assessed were clear, appropriate, and relevant. Participants' feedback suggested they could be used to assess self-reported physical activity and varied psychosocial outcomes in studies with survivors of AYA cancer, either with or without slight modifications.
