Abstract
PURPOSE To summarize the latest scientific literature regarding the concentrations of biomarkers in saliva and peri-implant crevicular fluid (PICF) of healthy implant (HI) patients and patients with peri-implant mucositis (PIM) and peri-implantitis (PI). MATERIALS AND METHODS The literature review was performed according to PRISMA guidelines. The databases used were PubMed MEDLINE, ScienceDirect, and Cochrane Library. A combination of keywords was used, and selection criteria were applied. Selected articles were published between February 1, 2017, and February 1, 2022, written in English, conducted in humans, and examined the levels of saliva and PICF biomarkers in PI patients and compared them to HI/PIM patients. RESULTS A total of 16 publications were selected, involving a total of 1,117 patients with 1,346 implants. Qualitative analysis revealed 49 different biomarkers, the levels of which were compared between groups. After evaluating the most frequently studied biomarkers, significantly higher values of IL-1β, RANKL, sRANKL, IL-6, TNF-α, TNFSF12, MMP2, and MMP8 levels were observed in the PI group than in the HI group. CONCLUSIONS Of all 49 biomarkers evaluated, IL-1β and RANKL have potentially the highest diagnostic significance in the assessment of peri-implant inflammatory conditions, as differences were observed between all three groups (HI < PIM < PI), but data from current publications were not fully sufficient to provide strong evidence.

Abstract
Objectives The aim of this cross-sectional study is to evaluate Lithuanian fourth- and fifth-year dental students' knowledge about bisphosphonates and bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw. Material and Methods The anonymous survey using a questionnaire was conducted from February to March 2022. The survey was sent to 173 students at Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) and 107 of them were completed. It consisted of student data, questions about the main properties of bisphosphonates, bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ), and the necessity of additional studies for students. Chi-square test and Cramér's V coefficient were used for the analysis of variables. Results Most of the fifth-year students knew the main properties of bisphosphonates and what diseases they are used to treat. Twenty fifth-year students (33.9%) knew the accurate definition of BRONJ, while only 11 fourth-year students (22.9%) chose the same correct answer. Statistically significant (P < 0.05) data were found about the knowledge of main properties of bisphosphonates. The vast majority of fourth- and fifth-year students (39 [81.3%] and 45 [76.3%]), agreed that the University should provide more information about bisphosphonates. Conclusions The study revealed that fifth-year students demonstrated better knowledge about bisphosphonates compared to fourth-year students and this was due to a curriculum supplemented with information about this pathology. The overall findings of this research suggest that Universities need to expand their student curricula by providing more knowledge about bisphosphonates and its relation to bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw.

Abstract
Objectives Enough bone around the implant is an important factor in ensuring the stability and longevity of the implant. Therefore, alveolar bone regeneration procedures are often required. A relatively new bone substitute is made from autogenous teeth. There are more and more studies in the scientific literature that perform regenerative alveolar bone procedures using autogenous tissues substitutes made from extracted teeth. The objective of this systematic literature review is to systematize information and present conclusions about the effectiveness of this regenerative material. Material and Methods Scientific articles were selected using the PRISMA recommendations. Publications have been carried out since January 1, 2012 to January 1, 2022. The review includes articles in English, clinical studies in humans who underwent bone augmentation prior to or during dental implantation using an autogenous teeth tissues substitute. Results A total of 7 publications were included in this systematic literature review. Summarizing the data of the publications, 258 patients participated in the studies, 240 subjects were included in the results for various reasons, and a total of 298 implants were inserted. No statistically significant results were found in the five studies. Two studies comparing autogenous tooth graft with xenogeneic bone graft and autogenous teeth tissues showed statistically significant positive results in autogenous tooth group. Conclusions Within the limitations of this study, autogenous tissues graft derived from teeth are an effective material and can be used as an alternative to other bone grafts existing on the market. Further studies with a longer follow-up period are needed to validate these findings.

Abstract
Objectives The objective of this systematic review is to test the hypothesis that treatment with titanium, titanium-zirconium and zirconia dental implants has different clinical outcomes in survival rate, marginal bone loss, bleeding on probing, plaque control record, and probing depth. Material and Methods A systematic electronic search through the PubMed (MEDLINE) and Cochrane Library databases was performed to identify studies published between January 1, 2013 and January 1, 2023 containing a minimum of 10 patients per study comparing titanium (Ti), titanium-zirconium (Ti-Zr), and zirconia (Zr) dental implants. Ti, Ti-Zr, and Zr dental implant clinical outcomes were determined by evaluating survival rate, marginal bone level, bleeding on probing, probing depth, plaque control record. Quality and risk-of-bias assessment were evaluated by Cochrane risk of bias tool. Results A total of 1361 articles were screened, with 10 meeting the inclusion criteria and being utilized for this systematic review and meta-analysis. A total of 301 patients with 637 implants (304 Ti, 134 Ti-Zr, and 199 Zr) were evaluated, showing a survival rate of 97.7% for Ti, 98.6% for Ti-Zr, and 93.8% for Zr implants respectively. In a meta-analysis, no difference in marginal bone level was found between Ti, Ti-Zr, and Zr implants (P = 0.84). Conclusions Dental implant survival rate was lower in zirconia group. Assessment of marginal bone loss and bleeding on probing showed better results with titanium-zirconium dental implants. Plaque control result was similar in all groups. Due to limited sample size assessed it was not possible to obtain conclusion on probing depth parameter.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Focal osteoporotic bone marrow defect is asymptomatic radiolucent area usually discovered incidentally during radiographic examination of the jaws. This bone condition can lead to clinical complications during dental implant placement or during osseointegration process. METHODS A 54-year-old woman was referred to private dental implant centre for a dental implant rehabilitation treatment in May 17, 2016. Oral examination revealed a healthy mucosa with no visible pathology. Adentia of tooth #46 and moderate atrophy of the edentulous alveolar process were found. Panoramic radiography of the jaws showed 2 cm x 2 cm radiolucency with irregular borders located in tooth #46 region. The margins of the bone defect were uneven, single trabeculae were visible, and the cortical layer was not deformed. In the absence of signs of pathology, it was decided to perform a dental implant surgery in the edentulous jaw segment #46. RESULTS The osteoporotic focus was filled with natural bovine bone substitute Cerabone®. The granules were gently condensed to the sides - to the buccal and lingual walls until they filled the entire cavity. A 10 mm long, 4.1 mm diameter Straumann® Tissue Level implant was surgically placed with the shoulder of the implant resting on the margins of the osteotomy. It was proposed six steps protocol for surgical dental implant installation in focal osteoporotic bone marrow defect in mandible. CONCLUSIONS A six-step protocol for surgical placement of dental implants in focal osteoporotic bone marrow defects may be a useful tool for clinicians in implant dentistry.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The primary objective of the present systematic review is to test the hypothesis - the revision of the complexity of the extraction sockets morphology classifications will reveal the most important parameters for implant aesthetic and functional success in case of immediate dental implant placement in aesthetic zone. The secondary objective is to revise the most important parameters of aesthetic indexes created for implant-supported restoration in aesthetic zone. MATERIAL AND METHODS MEDLINE (PubMed) and Cochrane Library search in combination with hand-search of relevant journals was conducted including human studies published in English between 1 January 2005 and 1 February 2022. After evaluation of the titles and abstracts in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines, risk-of-bias assessment was evaluated and data was extracted from the full papers. RESULTS Electronic and hand searching resulted in 477 entries. Five systematic reviews, research syntheses and 7 prospective studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in the final data synthesis. Selected articles reported the different classifications complexity of the extraction sockets morphology and aesthetic indexes for implant supported restoration in aesthetic zone. CONCLUSIONS The most important parameters for implant aesthetics and functional success, incorporated in classifications of extraction sockets are facial soft tissue level and quality, gingival biotype, keratinized gingival, mesial and distal papillae appearance, buccal bone level and thickness, labial and buccal bone plates damage and bone lesions. The most important aesthetic indexes parameters are soft tissue contour position, including colour and texture, interdental papilla, mesial and distal interproximal bone height, gingival biotype.

Abstract
Background: Patients usually face negative psycho-emotional status during teeth extraction, therefore sedation and general anesthesia are often selected for wisdom teeth extractions. The aim of this study is to evaluate the difference between sedation and general anesthesia patients' psycho-emotional status and pain, using Universal Scale in Oral Surgery for Psycho-Emotional Rating (USOS), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Modified Corah's Dental Anxiety scale (MDAS). Methods: In the period of 10/21/2019–01/31/2020 a prospective control study was held of adult patients for extraction of four wisdom teeth with sedation or general anesthesia. Patients were evaluated using self-reported questionnaires and physician questionnaire. Results: In total 53 patients were included in study: 43 in the sedation group (SG) and 10 in the general anesthesia group (GAG). Patients' psycho-emotional status was significantly (p < 0.05) more negative in both groups at the day of surgery than before it, but the difference of fear was higher in GAG (p < 0.05). Immediately after surgery GAG (3.80) felt statistically significantly (p < 0.05) more pain than SG (2.60). Conclusion: Sum of USOS, MDAS, dental fear data scores, pulse measurements directly correlated with time, i.e. statistics increased as surgery approached. The pain sensation differences were found only in the assessment immediately after surgery.

Abstract
Objectives Millions of people worldwide are affected by diseases or injuries which lead to bone/tooth loss and defects. While such clinical situations are daily practice in most of the hospitals, the widely used treatment methods still have disadvantages. Therefore, this field of medicine is actively searching new tissue regeneration techniques, one of which could be stem cell secretome. Thus, the purpose of this research study was to perform the detail proteomic analysis of periosteum-derived mesenchymal stem cells secretome in order to evaluate if it is capable to induce osteo-regenerative process. Material and Methods Periosteum-derived mesenchymal stem cells (PMSCs) were extracted from adult male New Zealand White rabbits. Cells were characterised by evaluating their differentiation potential. After characterisation PMSCs secretomes were collected and their proteomic analysis was performed. Results PMSCs were extracted from adult male New Zealand White rabbits. In order to characterise the extracted PMSCs, they were differentiated in the directions which mainly describes MSC multipotency - osteogenic, myogenic and adipogenic. A total of 146 proteins were detected. After characterisation PMSCs secretomes were collected and their proteomic analysis was performed. The resulting protein composition indicates the ability to promote bone regeneration to fully mature bone. Conclusions Bioactive molecules detected in periosteum-derived mesenchymal stem cells secretome initiates the processes required for the formation of a fully functional bone.

Abstract
Objectives The systematic literature review aims to assess patients' dental extraction with inherited bleeding disorders, to understand the type, dosage, and modality of administration of the haemostatic agents for safe intra- and postoperational results. Material and Methods The search was undertaken in MEDLINE (PubMed) databases and Cochrane library for articles published in English from 1 January, 2010 till 31 October, 2020. Before the full-text articles were considered, titles and abstracts were screened. Results A total of 78 articles were screened, from which 3 met the necessary criteria and were used for the review. Minor complications, such as postoperative bleedings from the socket and epistaxis, were observed, but they were resolved with proper medical care. No major fatal complications were reported. Generally, all the articles provided evidence of successful extractions with correct treatment plans made by haematologists and surgeons. Conclusions Available clinical trials demonstrate that local and systemic haemostatic therapies in combination are effective in preventing bleeding during dental extractions in patients with coagulopathies.

Abstract
The mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) secretome has been considered an innovative therapeutic biological approach, able to modulate cellular crosstalk and functionality for enhanced tissue repair and regeneration. This study aims to evaluate the functionality of the secretome isolated from periosteum-derived MSCs, from either basal or osteogenic-induced conditions, in the healing of a critical size calvarial bone defect in the rabbit model. A bioceramic xenograft was used as the vehicle for secretome delivery, and the biological response to the established biocomposite system was assessed by clinical, histological, histomorphometric, and microtomographic analysis. A comparative analysis revealed that the osteogenic-induced secretome presented an increased diversity of proteins, with emphasis on those related to osteogenesis. Microtomographic and histological morphometric analysis revealed that bioceramic xenografts implanted with secretomes enhanced the new bone formation process, with the osteogenic-induced secretome inducing the highest bone tissue formation. The application of the MSC secretome, particularly from osteogenic-induced populations, may be regarded as an effective therapeutic approach to enhance bone tissue healing and regeneration.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to compare bone regeneration in the anterior maxilla between bone substitutes and autologous platelet concentrate in alveolar ridge preservation. Forty patients requiring tooth extraction in the anterior maxilla were randomly allocated to the following 4 treatment modalities: spontaneous healing (control), natural bovine bone mineral covered with resorbable native collagen membrane (BBM/CM), freeze-dried bone allograft covered with resorbable native collagen membrane (FDBA/CM), and plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF) alone. Bone biopsies and histomorphometrical analysis were performed after 3 months of healing. The following parameters were assessed: newly formed mineralized tissue, newly formed nonmineralized tissue, and residual bone-grafting material (if applicable). Statistical analysis was performed to provide descriptive analysis and to compare the parameters of the bone regeneration between the study groups. Histomorphometrical analysis revealed the highest new mineralized tissue formation in the PRGF group. Statistically significant differences in new mineralized tissue formation were found between control/PRGF (46.4% ± 15.2% vs 75.5% ± 16.3%), control/(BBM/CM) (46.4% ± 15.2% vs 20.3% ± 21.9%), control/(FDBA/CM) (46.4% ± 15.2% vs 7.2% ± 8.6%), PRGF/(BBM/CM) (75.5% ± 16.3% vs 20.3% ± 21.9%), and PRGF/(FDBA/CM) (75.5% ± 16.3% vs 7.2% ± 8.6%) groups. The new mineralized tissue formation was in the following order: PRGF > control > BBM > FDBA. Alveolar ridge preservation in the esthetic zone with PRGF was the most effective for bone regeneration of the alveolar ridge.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate alveolar ridge dimensional changes of different alveolar ridge preservation techniques after 3 months of tooth extraction and to compare the efficacy of autologous plasma rich in growth factor (PRGF) to the bone substitutes in alveolar ridge preservation and sites left to heal spontaneously. MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty patients requiring tooth extraction in the anterior maxilla were randomly allocated to the four following treatment modalities: spontaneous healing (control), natural bovine bone mineral covered with resorbable native collagen membrane (BBM/CM), freeze-dried bone allograft covered with resorbable native collagen membrane (FDBA/CM) and PRGF alone. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans were taken after surgery and 3 months later. The measurements of height and width (at 1, 3, and 5 mm below the crest) were performed after superimposing the 2 consecutive CBCT scans. RESULTS The greatest horizontal alveolar bone resorption at 1 mm below bone crest was observed in the control group (-1.61 ± 1.76 mm, P = .037), whereas the least reduction in width was found in the BBM/CM group (-0.68 ± 0.67 mm, P = .037). The most pronounced alveolar height reduction was observed in the control group (-0.86 ± 0.43 mm), whereas alveolar ridge preservation with BBMC/CM (-0.26 ± 0.91 mm) and PRGF (-0.54 ± 0.86 mm) successfully reduced the alveolar height reduction as compared to the control group. CONCLUSIONS Alveolar ridge preservation technique in the esthetic zone using BBM/CM or using PRGF is beneficial to reduce horizontal and vertical bone changes.

Abstract
Development of human genetic and proteomic research has increased the interest in alternative head-and-neck cancer (HNC) detection methods. The aim of this article, the second of two-part series, was to review the scientific literature about novel HNC genetic and proteomic biomarkers. A comprehensive review of the current literature was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Item for Systematic Review and Meta-analyses guidelines by accessing the NCBI PubMed database. Authors conducted the search of articles in English language published from 2004 to 2015. A total of 50 relevant studies were included in the review. Thirty of them concerned proteomic and twenty genetic alterations in HNC. The present systematic review discovered 242 genes and 44 proteins associated with HNC. Due to inconsistent and sparse results, novel biomarkers cannot be firmly established. Prognostic capacity of genetic markers was not evaluated. Proteins (14-3-3γ, extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer, and PA28γ) were described as most valuable for prognostic observation of HNC. A strict methodological protocol for molecular studies must be established.

Abstract
Objectives The aim of this systematic review is to compare immediate implant placement in infected extraction sockets with non-infected extraction sockets in terms of implant survival and function. Material and Methods An electronic search was conducted in PubMed, ScienceDirect, ISI Web of Knowledge and Google Scholar between January 2010 and February 2020. Studies evaluating implant survival rate and main clinical parameters were included for a qualitative and quantitative analysis. Results In total, nine studies were included and a pool of 2281 sockets were analysed. Compared with the non-infected group, the infected group showed no significant differences in implant survival rates (risk ratio [RR] = 0.99; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.98 to 1; P = 0.08). No significant statistical differences were found in marginal bone level (mean difference [MD] = -0.03; 95% CI = -0.1 to 0.04; P = 0.41), marginal gingival level (MD = -0.07; 95% CI = -0.17 to 0.04; P = 0.23), probing depth (MD = 0.06; 95% CI = -0.24 to 0.36; P = 0.7), modified bleeding index (MD = -0.00162196; 95% CI = -0.09 to 0.09; P = 0.97) and slight but significant changes were seen in width of keratinized gingiva (MD = 0.25; 95% CI = -0.3 to 0.8; P = 0.38) between the groups at the latest follow-up. Conclusions There were no significant difference in implant survival rates, marginal bone level, marginal gingival level, modified bleeding index and probing depth between infected sockets and non-infected sockets. However, slight but significant changes were seen in width of keratinized gingiva favouring the non-infected group.

Abstract
Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the osteogenic potential of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) and to assess the influence of plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF) on bone regeneration using ADSCs. Materials & methods: Bone defects were randomly allocated to the five treatment modalities: spontaneous healing, natural bovine bone mineral (BBM), BBM loaded with PRGF, BBM loaded with ADSCs and BBM loaded with a combination of ADSCs and PRGF. Results: The PRGF significantly enhanced the biomaterial-to-bone contact. Defects treated with ADSCs and PRGF or a combination of both showed the greatest bone regeneration. Conclusion: Combining PRGF and ADSCs boosts the bone graft regenerative potential at the earliest period of healing.

Abstract
This study aimed to create novel bioceramic coatings on a titanium alloy and evaluate their surface properties in comparison with conventional prosthetic materials. The highly polished titanium alloy Ti6Al4V (Ti) was used as a substrate for yttria-stabilized zirconium oxide (3YSZ) and lithium disilicate (LS2) coatings. They were generated using sol-gel strategies. In comparison, highly polished surfaces of Ti, yttria-stabilized zirconium oxide (ZrO2), polyether ether ketone (PEEK) composite, and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) were utilized. Novel coatings were characterized by an X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The roughness by atomic force microscope (AFM), water contact angle (WCA), and surface free energy (SFE) were determined. Additionally, biocompatibility and human gingival fibroblast (HGF) adhesion processes (using a confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM)) were observed. The deposition of 3YSZ and LS2 coatings changed the physicochemical properties of the Ti. Both coatings were biocompatible, while Ti-3YSZ demonstrated the most significant cell area of 2630 μm2 (p ≤ 0.05) and the significantly highest, 66.75 ± 4.91, focal adhesions (FAs) per cell after 24 h (p ≤ 0.05). By contrast, PEEK and PMMA demonstrated the highest roughness and WCA and the lowest results for cellular response. Thus, Ti-3YSZ and Ti-LS2 surfaces might be promising for biomedical applications.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this article is to systematically review the use, efficacy, differences between botulinum toxin type A doses and side effects of botulinum toxin type A therapy in patients with trigeminal neuralgia. MATERIAL AND METHODS The search for the performed reviews was done in PubMed and Cochrane library in English language from January 2010 up to February 2020. Inclusion criteria: full-text studies in English language, in which visual assessment scale (VAS) was present, in which patients with trigeminal neuralgia (TN) were participated and the comparison between botulinum toxin type A (BT-A) and saline was done. RESULTS The review included 4 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials with 8 to 12 weeks follow-up to observe changes in VAS and in frequency of TN attacks, differences between dosages of BT-A in therapy and side effects. Mean VAS of BT-A group decreased by approximately 68% and of palcebo group decreased by approximately 21.6% after the therapy. Mean frequency of TN attacks in 3 studies of BT-A group decreased by 85%, while in palcebo by only 15.9%. CONCLUSIONS Botulinum toxin type A injection therapy is a safe and effective method in management of trigeminal neuralgia. No differences between dosages of botulinum toxin type A were found. Maximum efficacy was noticed between 6 weeks and 3 months after the procedure. Side effects were mostly facial asymmetry after injection, headaches, haematoma, which disappeared in one week.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The purpose of the present study was to review and evaluate the effectiveness of bone substitute materials used for maxillary sinus floor elevation and to propose the most effective bone graft material by assessing newly formed bone, remaining graft particles, and soft tissue ratio. METHOD AND MATERIALS The search protocol used the electronic MEDLINE (PubMed) database for articles published between 1 January 2008 and 1 January 2019. The search was limited to English language only and included clinical studies on humans. Outcomes were the percentage of newly formed bone, remaining graft particles, and soft tissue. RESULTS Eighteen studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Autologous bone and mineralized cancellous bone allograft showed the best results regarding the percentage of newly formed bone (41.74% and 35.41%, respectively). The worst bone formation was observed when Bio-Oss material was used alone (8.25%) and in combination with recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-7 (rhBMP-7) (6.55%). During estimation of bone regeneration results when anorganic bovine bone (ABB) substitute was used alone and in combination with platelet-rich plasma (PRP), histomorphometric analysis revealed a higher amount of newly formed bone in sites treated with PRP + ABB (31%) compared to ABB alone (21.3%). CONCLUSIONS The present systemic review demonstrated that autologous bone has the best regenerative potential for sinus floor elevation. Combining autologous bone with bone substitutes leads to more matured newly formed bone and better bone graft osseointegration. PRP/plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF) combined together with bone graft materials enhances bone formation and vascularization. It might also reduce inflammation and decrease the risk of complications.

Abstract
Introduction The task of Group I was to review and update the existing data concerning the physiologic process of socket healing, in the absence or presence of grafting materials or platelet concentrates, addressing the associated molecular and cellular events that culminate in the restoration of the lost tissue architecture and functionality. The second task was to review current literature concerning extraction socket classification immediately following tooth extraction and the rationales for socket preservation/augmentation procedures and with reference to it suggest novel clinical decision tree for extraction socket preservation/augmentation in aesthetic and non-aesthetic area. Material and Methods The main areas indicated by this group were as follows: socket healing process, including haemostasis and coagulation, inflammatory phase, proliferative phase, bone tissue modelling and remodelling; socket healing with graft materials and autologous platelet concentrates; extraction socket classifications; indications and reasons for extraction socket preservation/augmentation. The systematic reviews and/or meta-analyses were registered in PROSPERO, an international prospective register of systematic reviews: http://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/. The literature in the corresponding areas of interest was screened and reported following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Item for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis) Statement: http://www.prisma-statement.org/. Method of preparation of the systematic reviews, based on comprehensive search strategies, was discussed and standardized. The summary of the materials and methods employed by the authors in preparing the systematic reviews and/or meta-analyses is presented in Preface chapter. Results The results and conclusions of the review process are presented in the respective papers. One theoretical review-analysis and one systematic review were performed. The group's general commentaries, consensus statements, clinical recommendations and implications for research are presented in this article.

Abstract
Objectives The aim of present study was to review current literature concerning extraction socket classification immediately following tooth extraction and the rationales for socket preservation/augmentation procedures and with reference to it suggest novel clinical decision tree for extraction socket preservation/augmentation in aesthetic and non-aesthetic area. Material and Methods The search protocol used the electronic MEDLINE (PubMed) and EMBASE databases for articles published between January 1 2009 and May 1 2019. The search included only human studies published in English. Outcomes were the indications and reasons for socket preservation/augmentation and classification of extraction sockets. Results Ten studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria and were selected for the study. Although there are various types of extraction socket classifications none of them could completely evaluate all morphological parameters of alveolar ridge. Furthermore, present study revealed that indications for extraction socket preservation/augmentation have wider spectrum than socket morphology and are related to surrounding tissue anatomy or dental implantation operation indications and timing. Based on currently proposed extraction socket classifications and rationales, a novel decision tree for extraction socket preservation/augmentation immediately after tooth extraction in aesthetic and non-aesthetic area was suggested. Conclusions The need of extraction socket preservation/augmentation immediately after tooth extraction should be determined by the aesthetic, functional and risk-related viewpoint. A novel clinical decision tree for extraction socket preservation/augmentation immediately after tooth extraction in aesthetic and non-aesthetic zones can be useful tool in socket preservation/augmentation procedures.

Abstract
This study aimed to determine the number and quality of scientific publications in dentistry from the Baltic countries of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia between 1996 and 2018 using bibliometric analysis. Web of Science and Scopus were searched to identify scientific publications in dentistry between 1996 and 2018 by authors from centers in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. The annual number of scientific publications, citation rate, and h-index for each publication, and trends in international co-authorship were investigated by country and institution. There were 651 scientific publications in dentistry between 1996 and 2018, by authors from Lithuania (280 publications), Latvia (210 publications), and Estonia (161 publications). Publications from Estonia were ranked highest in qualitative terms (citation rate and h-index), followed by Lithuania, and Latvia. Of 28 authors with at least ten publications, 54% were Lithuanian (15 authors), 25% were Estonian (7 authors), and 21% were Latvian (6 authors). Estonian authors collaborated mainly with Finland (27 publications), Latvian authors with the USA (16 publications), and Lithuanian authors with Canada (26 publications). Most publications came from the academic institutions of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (136 publications), the University of Tartu (109 publications), Vilnius University (101 publications), and Riga Stradins University (28 publications). During the past 22 years, authors from Lithuania had the most publications in the field of dentistry, and authors from Estonia had the most cited publications. Authors mainly published in native journals and collaborated with authors in Scandinavia and North America.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The goal of this systematic review was to assess the current literature about sinus augmentation procedure using different types of tooth derived bone graft materials, thorough analysing the outcomes of sinus grafting with tooth grafts compared to sinus grafting with xenografts, allografts and alloplasts by radiography and histomorphometry. MATERIAL AND METHODS An electronic search in the MEDLINE (NCBI PubMed and PubMed Central) database was conducted to identify articles concerning application of tooth bone grafts in sinus augmentation. The search was restricted to English language articles published in the last 10 years (December 2009 to March 2019). RESULTS In total, 21 articles were found, out of which 7 met the inclusion criteria and were included in the final synthesis. According to the type of diagnostic tool, data about graft material outcome in sinus was extracted, and included the residual alveolar height, augmented graft height, resorption height as seen in panoramic radiography and histomorphometric analysis of new bone formation and residual graft material. CONCLUSIONS Within the limitations of our review, we suggest that tooth derived graft materials are as successful as xenografts, allografts and alloplasts in sinus augmentation procedures according to the radiographic and histomorphometric showings. Additional wider research should be conducted in order to determine whether tooth derived graft materials are superior to the currently used materials.

Abstract
Objectives To review and assess the efficiency of different post extraction socket preservation techniques. Material and Methods An electronic literature search was performed on the MEDLINE and Embase databases. The review included human studies published between from January 1st, 2007 to January 1st, 2018, in English. Outcome measures included dimensional changes and/or histological evaluation of alveolar bone. Results Twenty-six full text articles were reviewed, 16 of which met the inclusion criteria and were selected for the study. Autogenous tooth graft prevented vertical resorption the most: -0.28 (SD 0.13) mm, observation period (OP): 4 months, while the least effective approach was beta tri-calcium phosphate (β-TCP): -1.72 (SD 0.56) mm, OP: 4 months. Estimating horizontal resorption, the most effective technique was biphasic calcium sulphate (BCS) with β-TCP and hydroxyapatite (HA) - BCS + TCP + HA: 0.03 (SD 2.32) mm, OP: 4 months, while β-TCP was the least efficient: -1.45 (SD 0.4) mm, OP: 4 months. Evaluating residual graft particles (RG) and newly formed bone (NFB) ratio the best results were achieved with demineralized freeze-dried bone allograft: RG: 8.88%, NFB: 38.42%, OP: 5 months, whereas magnesium-enriched hydroxyapatite was least effective: RG: 40.82%, NFB: 31.85%, OP: 4 months. Conclusions This review revealed that even though there are numerous types of biomaterials for socket preservation none of them can completely stop alveolar bone loss after tooth extraction. Furthermore, lack of information about qualitative evaluation of bone was noticed indicating that further studies regarding this topic are needed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Surgical time prediction is an important factor to plan both clinical and organizational aspects of mandibular impacted third molar extraction. Many classifications have been proposed over the years, but their accuracy in surgical time prediction remained questionable. The present study introduced a modification of Juodzbalys and Daugela (JD) classification, and had the aim to validate its effectiveness in predicting the duration of the surgery. METHOD AND MATERIALS Three centers treated patients needing impacted mandibular third molar extraction, following inclusion and exclusion criteria. Extractions were performed following a standardized approach, and surgical time was recorded. A blinded assessor assigned scores to each extracted tooth, according to original and modified JD classifications. Differences among the operators were evaluated though Kruskal-Wallis test, and backward multiple linear regressions were performed to evaluate the variables associated with surgical time, considered as the main outcome of the study. RESULTS 124 patients were treated with mandibular third molar extraction. Mean surgical time was 24.1 ± 22.2 minutes, with significant differences among the centers (P = .001). Surgical times among groups derived from both former and modified JD classifications were significantly different (P = .002 and P = .001, respectively). In the multivariate analysis, the statistical model including modified JD score was more efficient than the model with former JD score in predicting surgical time (R2 = .204 and R2 = .126, respectively). CONCLUSION Modified JD classification resulted in a reliable tool for predicting surgical time of impacted mandibular third molar extraction; this could represent an adjunctive tool for clinician and patient in the decision-making process.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of leukocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) on impacted mandibular third molar (IMTM) extraction wound healing, patient postoperative discomfort, and incidence of alveolar osteitis. METHOD AND MATERIALS Thirty-four patients (20 female, 14 male) who met the inclusion criteria for this split-mouth randomized clinical trial were enrolled and 30 patients completed the study. Patients were randomized and underwent bilateral IMTM surgical extractions. Following extraction, one socket randomly received L-PRF, and the other socket served as a regular blood clot control. Postoperatively, the soft tissue healing index (HI), pain according to visual analog scale (VAS), facial swelling using a horizontal and vertical guide, and incidence of alveolar osteitis were evaluated 1, 3, 7, and 14 days after surgery. RESULTS Sites treated with L-PRF resulted in improved HI (P = .001) and lower pain VAS scores (P = .001) in the first postoperative week. Significant reduction of facial swelling was recorded on first (P = .035) and third (P = .023) postoperative days in L-PRF sites versus controls, ceasing to nonsignificant difference at day 7 (P = .224). None of the L-PRF sites and four control sites were affected by alveolar osteitis (P = .001). CONCLUSION Within the limitations of this split-mouth study, L-PRF improved soft tissue healing and reduced postoperative pain, swelling, and incidence of alveolar osteitis after IMTM surgical extractions.

Abstract
Objectives The review aims to study dental implant placement purposefulness for patients who have been treated or are on treatment with bisphosphonate medication. Material and Methods Structured search strategy was applied on electronic databases: MEDLINE, PubMed, PubMed Central and ResearchGate. Scientific publications in English between 2006 and 2017 were identified in accordance with inclusion, exclusion criteria. Publication screening, data extraction, and quality assessment were performed. Outcome measures included implant failure or implant-related osteonecrosis of the jaw. Results In total, 32 literature sources were reviewed, and 9 of the most relevant articles that are suitable to the criteria were selected. Heterogeneity between the studies was found and no meta-analysis could be done. Five studies analysed intraoral bisphosphonate medication in relation with implant placement, three studies investigated intravenous bisphosphonate medication in relation with implant placement and one study evaluated both types of medication given in relation with implant placement. Patients with intraoral therapy appeared to have a better implant survival (5 implants failed out of 423) rate at 98.8% vs. patients treated intravenously (6 implants failed out of 68) at 91%; the control group compared with intraoral bisphosphonate group appeared with 97% success implant survival rate (27 implants failed out of 842), showing no significant difference in terms of success in implant placement. Conclusions Patients treated with intravenous bisphosphonates seemed to have a higher chance of developing implant-related osteonecrosis of the jaw. The intraorally treated patient group appeared to have more successful results. Implant placement in patients treated intraorally could be considered safe with precautions.

Abstract
Background This retrospective analysis aimed at comparing the clinical outcomes following combined surgical therapy of peri-implantitis at initially grafted and non-grafted (i.e., pristine) implant sites. Methods A total of 39 patients exhibiting 57 implants diagnosed with peri-implantitis (i.e., 16 implants at grafted and 41 implants at non-grafted sites) were included. Each subject had received a combined (i.e., implantoplasty and augmentative therapy) surgical treatment procedures at respective implants (grafted sites: 10 patients, 16 implants, non-grafted sites: 29 patients, 41 implants). A chi-squared test (χ2) was used to assess whether the initial grafting procedure did affect the treatment outcomes (i.e., disease resolution, bleeding on probing (BOP), probing pocket depths (PD)). The mean follow-up period was 41.9 ± 34.75 months. Results At the patient level, disease resolution (i.e., absence of BOP and PD ≥ 6 mm) was obtained in 4/10 (40%) at grafted and in 7/27 (24.1%) at non-grafted implant sites (p = 0.579). BOP reductions was found to be 60.64 ± 40.81% at non-grafted and 77.45 ± 30.92% at grafted sites (p = 0.778). PD reductions amounted to 2.20 ± 2.22 mm at non-grafted and 1.57 ± 1.54 mm at grafted sites (p = 0.969). Conclusions The initial bone-grafting procedures at the implant sites did not influence the effectiveness of combined surgical therapy of peri-implantitis.

Abstract
The use of synthetic materials for biomedical applications still presents issues owing to the potential for unfavourable safety characteristics. Currently, there is increasing interest in using natural, marine-derived raw materials for bone tissue engineering. In our study, the endoskeleton of the mollusc Sepia, i.e. cuttlebone (CB), was used with regenerated cellulose (RC) to prepare three-dimensional composite bone grafts. CB microparticles were mechanically immobilised within a cellulose gel, resulting in a macroporous structure upon lyophilisation. The interconnected porous structure of the regenerated cellulose/cuttlebone (RC/CB) composite was evaluated by micro-computed tomography. The porosity of the composite was 80%, and the pore size predominantly ranged from 200 to 500 μm. The addition of CB microparticles increased the specific scaffold surface by almost threefold and was found to be approximately 40 mm-1. The modulus of elasticity and compressive strength of the RC/CB composite were 4.0 ± 0.6 and 22.0 ± 0.9 MPa, respectively. The biocompatibility of the prepared RC/CB composite with rat hepatocytes and extensor digitorum longus muscle tissue was evaluated. The obtained data demonstrated that both the composite and cellulose matrix samples were non-cytotoxic and had no damaging effects. These results indicate that this RC/CB composite is a novel material suitable for bone tissue-engineering applications.

Abstract
Objectives The purpose of the present study is to systematically review the accuracy of implant placement with mucosa-supported stereolithographic surgical guide and to find out what factors can influence the accuracy. Material and Methods An electronic literature search was performed through the MEDLINE (PubMed) and EMBASE databases. The articles are including human studies published in English from October 2008 to October, 2017. From the examination of selected articles, deviations between virtual planning and actual implant placement were analysed regarding the global apical, global coronal, and angulation position. Results A total of 119 articles were reviewed, and 6 of the most relevant articles that are suitable to the criteria were selected. The present data included 572 implants and 93 patients. The result in the present systematic review shows that mean apical global deviation ranges from 0.67 (SD 0.34) mm to 2.19 (SD 0.83) mm, mean coronal global deviation ranges from 0.6 (SD 0.25) mm to 1.68 (SD 0.25) mm and mean angular deviation - from 2.6° (SD 1.61°) to 4.67° (SD 2.68°). Conclusions It's clearly shown from most of the examined studies that the mucosa-supported stereolithographic surgical guide, showed not exceeding in apically 2.19 mm, in coronally 1.68 mm and in angular deviation 4.67°. Surgeons should be aware of the possible linear and angular deviations of the system. Accuracy can be influenced by bone density, mucosal thickness, surgical techniques, type of jaw, smoking habits and implant length. Further studies should be performed in order to find out which jaw can have better accuracy and how the experience can influence the accuracy.

Abstract
Cellulose scaffolds containing nano- or micro-hydroxyapatite (nHA or μHA) were prepared by the regeneration of cellulose from its acetylated derivative and the mechanical immobilization of inorganic particles, followed by freeze-drying. Microtomographic (micro-computed tomography) evaluation revealed that both scaffolds presented a highly interconnected porous structure, with a mean pore diameter of 490 ± 94 and 540 ± 132 μm for cellulose/nHA and cellulose/μHA, respectively. In vitro and in vivo characterizations of the developed scaffolds were investigated. Commercially available bone allograft was used as a control material. For the in vitro characterization, osteoblastic cell cultures were used and characterized over time to evaluate cell adhesion, metabolic activity, and functional output (alkaline phosphatase activity and osteoblastic gene expression). The results revealed greater spreading cell distribution alongside an increased number of filopodia, higher MTT values, and significantly increased expression of osteoblastic genes (Runx-2, alkaline phosphatase, and BMP-2) for cellulose/nHA, compared with cellulose/μHA and the control. The in vivo biocompatibility was evaluated in a rabbit calvarial defect model. The investigated scaffolds were implanted in circular rabbit calvaria defects. Four- and 12-week bone biopsies were investigated using micro-computed tomography and histological analysis. Although both cellulose/HA scaffolds outperformed the assayed control, a significantly higher amount of newly formed mineralized tissue was found within the defects loaded with cellulose/nHA. Within the limitations of this study, the developed cellulose/HA scaffolds showed promising results for bone regeneration applications. The biological response to the scaffold seems to be greatly dependent on the HA particles' characteristics, with cellulose scaffolds loaded with nHA eliciting an enhanced bone response.

Abstract
Objectives There aren’t any objective methods that may help in standard evaluation of oral surgery patient’s psycho-emotional status. Without any standardized evaluation, two main problems appear: heterogeneity between studies and ineffective patient’s evaluation. Therefore, Universal Scale in Oral Surgery (USOS) for patient’s psycho-emotional status rating has previously been proposed by authors. The aim of present study is to assess the clinical effectivity and validate the Universal Scale in Oral Surgery in case of outpatient tooth extraction for adult healthy patients. Material and Methods Clinical trial to validate the USOS for patient’s psycho-emotional status rating was performed. In total 90 patients, that came for outpatient dental extraction to Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department ambulatory, were enrolled in clinical trial. Patients filled self-reported questionnaires before the procedure. Operating surgeon rated USOS for patient’s psycho-emotional status rating doctor’s part questionnaire after the procedure. 4 - 6 weeks later all patients were asked to fill USOS for patient’s psycho-emotional status rating questionnaire retrospectively. Results According to the statistical analysis, the final composition of USOS for patient’s psycho-emotional status rating that would fit to reliability coefficient should be composed from 6 patient part questions and 3 general doctor part questions. Conclusions Universal Scale in Oral Surgery for patient’s psycho-emotional status rating is a novel, doctor and patient rated scale which is suitable for clinical and scientific usage.

Abstract
Objectives The purpose of this article is to systematically review the circumstance of oral cancer around osseointegrated dental implants. Material and Methods An electronic literature search was conducted through the MEDLINE (PubMed) and EMBASE databases. The search was restricted for articles published during the last 21 years from January 1996 to April 2017 and articles were limited to English language. Results A total of 35 articles were reviewed, and 19 of the most relevant articles that are suitable to the criteria were selected. Case reports were analysed when oral cancer was present in patients with dental implants. Finally, the present data included 28 patients. Conclusions A direct link between dental implants and oral cancer was not found. It was observed that there were no significant differences in number of incidences of oral cancer between patients with history of malignancy and those without. More research should be made to document such cases. It was noticed that in many cases oral cancer around dental implant present itself as peri-implantitis, correct differential diagnosis is essential in such cases.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To test the effectiveness of nonsurgical and surgical treatment methods for clinical and radiographic peri-implantitis symptoms resolution with respect to pocket probing depth (PD), bleeding on probing (BOP), and marginal bone-loss reduction (RBL); to propose guidelines for managing peri-implantitis. METHOD AND MATERIALS An electronic literature search was conducted of the MEDLINE and EMBASE databases for articles published between 2002 and 2015. Sequential screening at the title/abstract and full-text levels was performed. Clinical human studies in the English language that had reported changes in PD and/or BOP and/or radiologic marginal bone level (RBL) changes after peri-implantitis treatment at 6-month follow-up or longer were included. A meta-analysis was performed using the random-effects model on the selected qualifying articles. RESULTS The search resulted in 29 articles meeting the inclusion criteria. The meta-analysis demonstrated improved BOP values (P = .001; OR = 1.567; 95% CI, 1.405 to 1.748) after the nonsurgical treatment but did not reveal a statistically significant difference in the PD changes (P = .8093; standardized mean difference [SMD] = 0.346 mm; 95% CI, 0.181 to 0.512). There was a significant improvement in PD (P < .001; SMD = 1.647 mm; 95% CI, 1.414 to 1.880) and BOP values (P < .001; OR = 4.044; 95% CI, 3.571 to 4.381) after surgical treatment and an intrabony defect fill was found to be 1.66 mm (1.0) using a regenerative treatment modality. Our meta-analysis confirms there is a significant reduction in RBL after nonsurgical (P = 0.037; SMD = 0.157 mm; 95% CI, -0.183 to 0.496), resective (P = .0212; SMD = -0.116 mm; 95% CI, -0.433 to 0.201), and regenerative (P = .0305; SMD = 1.703 mm; 95% CI, 1.266 to 2.139) surgical treatment. A novel complex management and maintenance (CMM) six-step protocol is thus suggested for treatment of peri-implantitis. CONCLUSION Regenerative surgical treatment of peri-implantitis was found to be most effective. A novel six-step protocol aimed at managing patients with peri-implantitis can be a useful tool in peri-implantitis treatment.

Abstract
Objectives The purpose of the study is to systematically review the osseointegration process improvement by bone morphogenetic protein coating on titanium implant surface. Material and Methods An electronic literature search was conducted through the MEDLINE (PubMed) and EMBASE databases. The search was restricted for articles published during the last 10 years from October 2006 to September 2016 and articles were limited to English language. Results A total of 41 articles were reviewed, and 8 of the most relevant articles that are suitable to the criteria were selected. Articles were analysed regarding concentration of bone morphogenetic protein (BMP), delivery systems, adverse reactions and the influence of the BMP on the bone and peri-implant surface in vivo. Finally, the present data included 340 implants and 236 models. Conclusions It’s clearly shown from most of the examined studies that bone morphogenetic protein increases bone regeneration. Further studies should be done in order to induce and sustain bone formation activity. Osteogenic agent should be gradually liberated and not rapidly released with priority to three-dimension reservoir (incorporated) titanium implant surface in order to avoid following severe side effects: inflammation, bleeding, haematoma, oedema, erythema, and graft failure.

Objectives The purpose of this article is to systematically review the methods of mobilization, isolation and characterization of stem cells from peripheral blood and to discuss their potential therapeutic applications for bone tissue regeneration. Material and Methods An electronic literature search was performed through MEDLINE (PubMed) electronic database. The search was restricted to English language articles published during the last 10 years, from January 2006 to November 2016. Results In total, 37 literature sources were reviewed, and 11 of the most relevant articles that are suitable to the criteria were selected. Articles were analysed with data on animals and humans for mobilization, isolation and characterization of stem cells from peripheral blood. From the examination of selected articles, the mobilization materials, side effects, alternatives and factors affecting the extracted amount of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) from mobilized peripheral blood of healthy individuals, as well as characterization of mobilized MSC were reviewed in this article. Conclusions Bone tissue engineering is a potential alternative strategy in bone regeneration and bone defect repair, however, insufficiency data display in the literature on potential therapeutic applications of peripheral blood stem cells for bone tissue regeneration.

Abstract
Introduction The task of Group 1 was to review and update the existing data concerning aetiology, risk factors and pathogenesis of peri-implantitis. Previous history of periodontitis, poor oral hygiene, smoking and presence of general diseases have been considered among the aetiological risk factors for the onset of peri-implant pathologies, while late dental implant failures are commonly associated with peri-implantitis and/or with the application of incorrect biomechanical forces. Special interest was paid to the bone cells dynamics as part of the pathogenesis of peri-implantitis. Material and Methods The main areas indagated by this group were as follows: influence of smoking, history of periodontitis and general diseases on peri-implantitis development, bio-mechanics of implant loading and its influence on peri-implant bone and cellular dynamics related to the pathogenesis of peri-implantitis. The systematic reviews and/or meta-analyses were registered in PROSPERO, an international prospective register of systematic reviews: http://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/. The literature in the corresponding areas of interest was screened and reported following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Item for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis) Statement: http://www.prisma-statement.org/. Method of preparation of the systematic reviews, based on comprehensive search strategies, was discussed and standardized. The summary of the materials and methods employed by the authors in preparing the systematic reviews and/or meta-analyses is presented in Preface chapter. Results The results and conclusions of the review process are presented in the respective papers. One systematic review with meta-analysis, three systematic reviews and one theoretical analysis were performed. The group′s general commentaries, consensus statements, clinical recommendations and implications for research are presented in this article.

Special interest was paid to the peri-implant crevicular fluid (PICF) overview including analysis of enzymes and biomarkers and microbial profiles from implants. Material and Methods The main areas of interest were as follows: effect of smoking and history of periodontitis, prosthetic treatment mistakes, excess cement, overloading, general diseases influence on peri-implantitis development. The systematic review and/or meta-analysis were registered in PROSPERO, an international prospective register of systematic reviews: http://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/. Abstract
OBJECTIVES To systematically examine influence of soft tissue condition and plaque accumulation around dental implants on peri-implantitis development. MATERIAL AND METHODS An electronic literature search was conducted of two databases - MEDLINE (Ovid) and EMBASE from 2011 to 2016. Sequential screenings at the title, abstract, and full-text levels were performed. Clinical human studies in the English language that had reported soft tissue condition or plaque accumulation influence on peri-implantitis development were included. The resulting articles were independently subjected to clear inclusion and exclusion criteria by two reviewers as follows. RESULTS The search resulted in 8 articles meeting the inclusion criteria. These studies reported gingival index, plaque index, pocket depth, bleeding on probing/modified bleeding index for sites with "adequate" (≥ 2 mm) and "inadequate" (< 2 mm) width of keratinized mucosa. Results demonstrated that the amount of keratinized mucosa has little influence on soft-tissue inflammation in the presence of good oral hygiene. However, suboptimal oral hygiene due to difficulty in access for plaque control in the areas of minimal keratinized mucosa may lead to greater tissue damage. CONCLUSIONS In cases with insufficient keratinized gingiva in the vicinity of implants, the insufficiency does not necessarily mediate adverse effects on the hygiene management and soft tissue health condition. Nonetheless, the risk of the increase of gingival index, plaque index, pocket depth, bleeding on probing/modified bleeding index is present. Therefore, the presence of an appropriate amount of keratinized gingiva is required.

Abstract
Objectives To systematically review risks of mechanical impact on peri-implant strain and prosthetic influence on stability across finite element studies. Material and Methods An online literature search was performed on MEDLINE and EMBASE databases published between 2011 and 2016. Following keywords tiered screening and selection of the title, abstract and full-text were performed. Studies of finite element analysis (FEA) were considered for inclusion that were written in English and revealed stress concentrations or strain at peri-implant bone level. Results There were included 20 FEA studies in total. Data were organized according to the following topics: bone layers, type of bone, osseointegration level, bone level, design of implant, diameter and length of implant, implant-abutment connection, type of supra-construction, loading axis, measurement units. The stress or strain at implant-bone contact was measured over all studies and numerical values estimated. Risks of overloading were accented as non-axial loading, misfits, cantilevers and the stability of peri-implant bone was related with the usage of platform switch connection of abutment. Conclusions Peri-implant area could be affected by non-axial loading, cantilever prosthetic elements, crown/implant ratio, type of implant-abutment connection, misfits, properties of restoration materials and antagonistic tooth. The heterogeneity of finite element analysis studies limits systematization of data. Results of these studies are comparable with other findings of in vitro, in vivo, prospective and retrospective studies.

Abstract
Objectives To review and summarize the literature concerning peri-implantitis diagnostic parameters and to propose guidelines for peri-implantitis diagnosis. Material and Methods An electronic literature search was conducted of the MEDLINE (Ovid) and EMBASE databases for articles published between 2011 and 2016. Sequential screening at the title/abstract and full-text levels was performed. Systematic reviews/guidelines of consensus conferences proposing classification or suggesting diagnostic parameters for peri-implantitis in the English language were included. The review was recorded on PROSPERO system with the code CRD42016033287. Results The search resulted in 10 articles that met the inclusion criteria. Four were papers from consensus conferences, two recommended diagnostic guidelines, three proposed classification of peri-implantitis, and one suggested an index for implant success. The following parameters were suggested to be used for peri-implantitis diagnosis: pain, mobility, bleeding on probing, probing depth, suppuration/exudate, and radiographic bone loss. In all of the papers, different definitions of peri-implantitis or implant success, as well as different thresholds for the above mentioned clinical and radiographical parameters, were used. Current evidence rationale for the diagnosis of peri-implantitis and classification based on consecutive evaluation of soft-tissue conditions and the amount of bone loss were suggested. Conclusions Currently there is no single uniform definition of peri-implantitis or the parameters that should be used. Rationale for diagnosis and prognosis of peri-implantitis as well as classification of the disease is proposed.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The purpose of this study was to systematically review the literature about canine measures to determine whether their variations had any role in sex determination. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION The study searched MEDLINE database from 2004-2014 according PRISMA guidelines. Search terms included "canine teeth," "dental crowns," "dentition," "permanent," "sex dimorphism," "forensic anthropology," "review literature." EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS Four hundred forty-three studies were identified in the search strategy and 11 were included. Eight analysed mean differences of maxillary right canines' mesiodistal (MD) measures between male and female. There was no significant mean difference in two studies of eight (standardised mean difference [SMD]=0.150 and 0.268, respectively). According to all eight studies that reviewed them, maxillary right canines MD measures mean difference was significantly different (SMD=0.479). All five studies, which described maxillary left canines MD measures, found the mean, were significantly different (SMD=0.424). Ten studies found the same result for mandibular right canines (SMD=0.696). Eight studies found mandibular left canines MD measures and mean significantly different (SMD=0.685). CONCLUSIONS The most significant SMD was between male and female mandibular canines (right and left), mesiodistal width 0.696 and 0.685 respectively. Consequently, these canines are the most important to the sex prediction.

Abstract
Objectives This article, the second in a two-part series, continues the discussion of inferior alveolar nerve lateralization/transposition for dental implant placement. The aim of this article is to review the scientific literature and clinical reports in order to analyse the neurosensory complications, risks and disadvantages of lateralization/transposition of the inferior alveolar nerve followed by implant placement in an edentulous atrophic posterior mandible. Material and Methods A comprehensive review of the current literature was conducted according to the PRISMA guidelines by accessing the NCBI PubMed and PMC databases, as well as academic sites and books. The articles were searched from January 1997 to July 2014. Articles in English language, which included adult patients between 18 - 80 years of age who had minimal residual bone above the mandibular canal and had undergone inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) repositioning, with minimum 6 months of follow-up, were included. Results A total of 21 studies were included in this review. Ten were related to IAN transposition, 7 to IAN lateralization and 4 to both transposition and lateralization. The IAN neurosensory disturbance function was present in most patients (99.47% [376/378]) for 1 to 6 months. In total, 0.53% (2/378) of procedures the disturbances were permanent. Conclusions Inferior alveolar nerve repositioning is related to initial transient change in sensation in the majority of cases. The most popular causes of nerve damage are spatula-caused traction in the mucoperiosteal flap, pressure due to severe inflammation or retention of fluid around the nerve and subsequent development of transient ischemia, and mandibular body fracture.

The articles were searched from January 1997 to July 2014 and comprised English-language articles that included adult patients between 18 and 80 years old with minimal residual bone above the mandibular canal who had undergone inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) repositioning with a minimum 6 months of follow-up. Results A total of 16 studies were included in this review. Nine were related to IAN transposition, 4 to IAN lateralization and 3 to both transposition and lateralization. Implant treatment results and complications were presented. Conclusions Inferior alveolar nerve lateralization and transposition in combination with the installation of dental implants is sometimes the only possible procedure to help patients to obtain a fixed prosthesis, in edentulous atrophic posterior mandibles. With careful pre-operative surgical and prosthetic planning, imaging, and extremely precise surgical technique, this procedure can be successfully used for implant placement in edentulous posterior mandibular segments.
