Abstract
Aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease (AERD) is a clinical syndrome characterized by chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps, asthma and the development of significant airway symptoms following the ingestion of aspirin and other nonsteroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). At present, aspirin challenge is the gold standard for diagnosis. Aspirin desensitization and aspirin therapy after desensitization (ATAD) is one of the classical therapies. This paper described the application of aspirin desensitization and ATAD in AERD and provided the reference for the comprehensive treatment of AERD.

Abstract
Objective: To validate the performance of a multi-omics combined test for early screening of high-risk liver cancer populations. Methods: 173 high-risk patients with liver cancer were prospectively screened in a real-world setting, and 164 cases were finally enrolled. B-ultrasound, alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), and HCC screens were conducted in all patients. A multi-omics early screening test was performed for liver cancer in combination with multi-gene methylation, TP53/TERT/CTNNB1 mutations, AFP, and abnormal prothrombin (PIVKA-II). Differences in rates were compared using the chi-square test, adjusted chi-square test, or Fisher's exact probability method for count data. A non-parametric rank test (Mann-Whitney) was used to compare the differences between the two groups of data. Results: The HCCscreen detection had a sensitivity of 100% for liver cancer screening, 93.8% for liver cancer and precancerous diseases, 34.1% for positive predictive value, 99.2% for negative predictive value, and 0.89 for an area under the curve (AUC). Parallel detection of AFP, AFP+B-ultrasound, and methylation+mutation had a sensitivity/specificity and AUC of 31.3%/88.5% (AUC=0.78), 56.3%/88.2% (AUC=0.86), and 81.3%/82.4 % (AUC=0.84). At the same time, the disease severity range was significantly correlated with the methylation+mutation score, HCCscreen score, or positive detection rate (PDR). There was no significant correlation between AFP serum levels and methylation+mutation or HCCscreen scores, while there was a significant linear correlation between methylation+mutation scores and HCCscreen scores (r = 0.73, P < 0.001). Conclusion: In real-world settings, HCCscreen shows high sensitivity for screening opportunistic, high-risk liver cancer populations. Furthermore, it may efficaciously detect liver cancer and precancerous diseases, with superior performance to AFP and AFP+ultrasound. Hence, HCCscreen has the potential to become an effective screening tool that is superior to existing screening methods for high-risk liver cancer populations.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the trend of mortality rate and disability-adjusted life year (DALY) of colorectal cancer attributable to dietary risk factors from 1990 to 2019 in China. Methods: Mortality rate and DALY rate of colorectal cancer attributable to dietary risk factors (diet high in processed meat, diet high in red meat, diet low in calcium, diet in low in fiber, diet low in milk, diet low in whole grains, dietary risks) were collected from the Global Burden of Disease study 2019 (GBD2019). Joinpoint regression model was selected to analyze the trend and an age-period-cohort model was used to estimate the effects of age, period and birth cohort. Results: Joinpoint regression analysis showed that the age-standardized mortality rate and age-standardized DALY rate of colorectal cancer attributable to diet high in processed meat, diet high in red meat, diet low in milk, diet low in whole grains and dietary risks showed an upward trend (P<0.05) from 1990 to 2019, while those attributable to diet low in calcium and diet low in fiber showed a downward trend (P<0.05). The mortality rate and DALY rate of colorectal cancer attributable to diet high in processed meat, diet high in red meat, diet low in milk, diet low in whole grains and dietary risks in age groups from 65 to 79 years showed a quicker upward trend than those in age groups from 25 to 64 years. The mortality rate and DALY rate attributable to diet low in calcium and diet low in fiber in age groups from 65 to 79 years showed a slower downward trend than those in age groups from 25 to 64 years. The mortality rate and DALY rate of colorectal cancer attributable to diet high in processed meat, diet high in red meat, diet low in calcium, diet low in fiber, diet low in milk, diet low in whole grains, and dietary risks increased with age after adjusting for period effect and cohort effect (P<0.05). The mortality rate and DALY rate attributable to diet high in processed meat, diet high in red meat, diet low in calcium, diet low in milk, diet low in whole grains and dietary risks increased with period or cohort, while those attributable to diet low in fiber decreased with period or cohort. Period and cohort effect of dietary risk factors in this study were statistically significant (P<0.001). Conclusions: Disease burden of colorectal cancer attributable to dietary risk factors in China showed an upward trend in general. Elderly population is high at risk and more attention should be paid to science popularization and education on dietary risk factors in prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The study aimed to compare the effectiveness and safety of ultrasound-guided microwave ablation (MWA) and percutaneous sclerotherapy (PS) for the treatment of large hepatic hemangioma (LHH). METHODS This retrospective study included 96 patients who underwent MWA (n = 54) and PS (n = 42) as first-line treatment for LHH in three tertiary hospitals from January 2016 to December 2021. Primary outcomes were technique efficacy rate (volume reduction rate [VRR] > 50% at 12 months), symptom relief rate at 12 months and local tumor progression (LTP). Secondary outcomes included procedure time, major complications, treatment sessions, cost and one-, two-, three-year VRR. RESULTS During a median follow-up of 36 months, the MWA group showed a higher technique efficacy rate (100% vs. 90.4%, p = .018) and symptom relief rate (100% vs. 80%, p = .123) than the PS group. The MWA group had fewer treatment sessions, higher one-, two- and three-year VRR, lower LTP rate (all p < .05), longer procedure time and higher treatment costs than the PS group (both p < .001). MWA shared a comparable major complications rate (1.8% vs. 2.4%, p = .432) with PS. After multivariate analysis, the lesion's heterogeneity and maximum diameter >8.1 cm were independent risk factors for LTP (all p < .05). In the PS group, lesions with a cumulative dose of bleomycin > 0.115 mg/cm3 had a lower risk of LTP (p = .006). CONCLUSIONS Both MWA and PS treatments for large hepatic hemangioma are safe and effective, with MWA being superior in terms of efficacy.

Abstract
Recently, dinoflagellate blooms have frequently occurred in the coastal waters of Fujian, East China Sea. In June 2022, a fish-killing bloom of Kareniaceae species occurred in this region. In this study, four species of Kareniaceae, namely, Karenia longicanalis, K. papilionacea, Karlodinium veneficum, and Karl. digitatum were identified from this bloom event based on the results of single-cell PCR and clone libraries, and intraspecies genetic diversity was found in the Karl. veneficum population. The results of acute toxicity assays of the bloom water to two zooplankton species (Brachionus plicatilis and Artemia salina) demonstrated this bloom event strongly inhibited their swimming capacities and survival. The results of this study suggested that the bloom events caused by multiple species of Kareniaceae in the Fujian coastal waters had adverse impacts on the local fishery resources and zooplankton community.

Abstract
BACKGROUND As ultrasound-guided percutaneous liver biopsy (PLB) has become a standard and important method in the management of liver disease in our country, a periodical audit of the major complications is needed. AIM To determine the annual incidence of major complications following ultrasound-guided PLB and to identify variables that are significantly associated with an increased risk of major complications. METHODS A total of 1857 consecutive cases of PLB were included in our hospital from January 2021 to December 2021. The major complication rate and all-cause 30-d mortality rate were determined. Multivariate analyses were performed by logistic regression to investigate the risk factors associated with major complications and all-cause 30-d mortality following ultrasound-guided PLB. RESULTS In this audit of 1857 liver biopsies, 10 cases (0.53%) of major complications occurred following ultrasound-guided PLB. The overall all-cause mortality rate at 30 d after PLB was 0.27% (5 cases). Two cases (0.11%) were attributed to major hemorrhage within 7 d after liver biopsy. Fibrinogen less than 2 g/L [odds ratio (OR): 17.226; 95% confidence interval (CI): 2.647-112.102; P = 0.003], post-biopsy hemoglobin level (OR: 0.963; 95%CI: 0.942-0.985; P = 0.001), obstructive jaundice (OR: 6.698; 95%CI: 1.133-39.596; P = 0.036), application of anticoagulants/antiplatelet medications (OR: 24.078; 95%CI: 1.678-345.495; P = 0.019) and age (OR: 1.096; 95%CI: 1.012-1.187; P = 0.025) were statistically associated with the incidence of major complications after PLB. CONCLUSION In conclusion, the results of this annual audit confirmed that ultrasound-guided PLB can be performed safely, with a major complication rate within the accepted range. Strict patient selection and peri-biopsy laboratory assessment are more important than procedural factors for optimizing the safety outcomes of this procedure.

Abstract
BACKGROUNDS Percutaneous ultrasound (US) and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided pancreatic biopsies are widely accepted in the diagnosis of pancreatic diseases. Studies comparing the diagnostic performance of US- and EUS-guided pancreatic biopsies are lacking. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the diagnostic yields of US- and EUS-guided pancreatic biopsies and identify the risk factors for inconclusive biopsies. METHODS Of the 1074 solid pancreatic lesions diagnosed from January 2017 to February 2021 in our center, 275 underwent EUS-guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA), and 799 underwent US-guided core needle biopsy (US-CNB/FNA). The outcomes were inconclusive pathological biopsy, diagnostic accuracy and the need for repeat biopsy. All of the included factors and diagnostic performances of both US-CNB/FNA and EUS-FNA were compared, and the independent predictors for the study outcomes were identified. RESULTS The diagnostic accuracy was 89.8% for EUS-FNA and 95.2% for US-CNB/FNA (P = 0.001). Biopsy under EUS guidance [odds ratio (OR) = 1.808, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.083-3.019; P = 0.024], lesion size < 2 cm (OR = 2.069, 95% CI: 1.145-3.737; P = 0.016), hypoechoic appearance (OR = 0.274, 95% CI: 0.097-0.775; P = 0.015) and non-pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma carcinoma (PDAC) diagnosis (OR = 2.637, 95% CI: 1.563-4.449; P < 0.001) were identified as factors associated with inconclusive pathological biopsy. Hypoechoic appearance (OR = 0.236, 95% CI: 0.064-0.869; P = 0.030), lesions in the uncinate process of the pancreas (OR = 3.506, 95% CI: 1.831-6.713; P < 0.001) and non-PDAC diagnosis (OR = 2.622, 95% CI: 1.278-5.377; P = 0.009) were independent predictors for repeat biopsy. Biopsy under EUS guidance (OR = 2.024, 95% CI: 1.195-3.429; P = 0.009), lesions in the uncinate process of the pancreas (OR = 1.776, 95% CI: 1.014-3.108; P = 0.044) and hypoechoic appearance (OR = 0.127, 95% CI: 0.047-0.347; P < 0.001) were associated with diagnostic accuracy. CONCLUSIONS In conclusion, both percutaneous US- and EUS-guided biopsies of solid pancreatic lesions are safe and effective; though the diagnostic accuracy of EUS-FNA is inferior to US-CNB/FNA. A tailored pancreatic biopsy should be considered a part of the management algorithm for the diagnosis of solid pancreatic disease.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the gene expression characteristics of peripheral blood mononuclear cells from patients with high altitude pulmonary hypertension (HAPH) in Naxi residents living in Lijiang, Yunnan, and to explore the underlying pathogenesis and value for potential drug selection. Methods: This is a case-control study. Six patients with HPAH (HPAH group) and 4 normal subjects (control group) were selected from the Naxi residents who originally lived in Lijiang, Yunnan Province. The general clinical data of the two groups were collected, and the related indexes of pulmonary artery pressure were collected. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells of the subjects were collected for RNA sequencing. The differences on gene expression, regulatory network of transcription factors and drug similarity between the two groups were compared. The results were compared with the public data of idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH). Biological processes and signal pathways were analyzed and compared between HPAH and IPAH patients. Results: The age of 6 patients with HAPH was (68.1±8.3) years old, and there were 2 males (2/6). The age of 4 subjects in the control group was (62.3±10.9) years old, and there were 2 males (2/4). Tricuspid regurgitation velocity, tricuspid pressure gradient and pulmonary systolic pressure in HAPH group were significantly higher than those in control group (all P<0.05). The results of RNA sequencing showed that compared with the control group, 174 genes were significantly upregulated and 169 genes were downregulated in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of HAPH group. These differentially expressed genes were associated with 220 biological processes, 52 molecular functions and 23 cell components. A total of 21 biological processes and 2 signal pathways differed between HPAH and IPAH groups, most of which were related to inflammation and immune response. ZNF384, SP1 and STAT3 were selected as highly correlated transcription factors by transcription factor prediction analysis. Trichostatin A and vorinostat were screened out as potential drugs for the treatment of HAPH by drug similarity analysis. Conclusions: There are significant differences in gene expression in peripheral blood monocytes between HAPH patients and normal population, and inflammation and immune dysfunction are the main pathogenic factors. Trichostatin A and Vorinostat are potential drugs for the treatment of HAPH.

Abstract
BACKGROUND CT is the most commonly used method to stage esophageal cancer (EC). However, the reported CT T-staging criteria for EC are controversial. PURPOSE To determine and validate the optimal esophageal wall thickness (EWT) threshold on CT to distinguish lesions with different T stages in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients. METHODS One thousand, one hundred-two consecutive patients with histopathologically confirmed ESCC between July 2014 and April 2020 were retrospectively reviewed. All patients underwent a preoperative CT examination and surgical treatment. The maximal EWT of the lesions on CT was measured. Patients were divided into pT1, pT2, pT3 and pT4 subgroups according to the pathologic stage. We employed the support vector machine, where linear kernels were leveraged to determine the optimal threshold to classify samples with different T stages. 90% of samples from each subgroup were randomly selected as the training set, while the remainder comprised the testing set. RESULTS The mean EWTs of the pT1, pT2, pT3 and pT4 subgroups were 4.9 ± 2.6 mm, 8.1 ± 2.3 mm, 12.4 ± 3.6 mm, and 18.6 ± 4.4 mm, respectively. Differences in the EWT between the four subgroups or between adjacent subgroups were significant (p < 0.001), and esophageal wall became thicker with increasing pT stage. We utilized MATLAB 2020a to implement the SVM model and ran the code 10 times. The accuracy of the model was 60.29 ± 2.33%. The thresholds between samples from pT1/pT2, pT2/pT3 and pT3/pT4 lesions were 5.5 ± 0.3 mm, 10.8 ± 0.8 mm and 15.9 ± 0.5 mm, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Possibility of predicting T stage of ESCC by EWT on CT scans was limited to 60% by model examination with large sample size.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Early recurrence (ER) after radical resection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) affects the prognosis of patients. Gadolinium ethoxybenzyl-diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (Gd-EOB-DTPA)-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can improve the detection rate of small HCC. This study innovatively introduces a new quantitative index combined with qualitative index to compare the differences in clinical and imaging characteristics between ER and non-ER groups and evaluate the feasibility of Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced MRI in predicting ER. METHODS A total of 68 patients with HCC confirmed by operation and pathology in the Shandong Cancer Hospital and Institute were included retrospectively. All participants were examined by Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced MRI within 3 weeks before surgery. Regular follow-up was performed every 2 months within 1 year after operation. Among them, 18 cases with new lesions were in ER group, and 50 cases without new lesions were in non-ER group. The clinical and imaging data of the 2 groups were collected, and the differences of clinical data and preoperative MRI signs between the ER group and non-ER group were compared. The predictive factors of ER after HCC were analyzed by multivariate logistic regression. RESULTS The quantitative parameter lesion-to-liver contrast enhancement ratio (LLCER) can predict the pathological grade of HCC (P=0.023). The results of univariate analysis between the ER group and non-ER group showed that there were significant differences in pathological grade (P=0.008), lesion morphology (P=0.011), peritumoral low signal intensity in hepatobiliary phase (HBP) (P<0.001), satellite nodules (P<0.001), and LLCER (P<0.001) between the 2 groups. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that HBP peritumoral low signal intensity [odds ratio (OR) =7.214, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.230-42.312, P=0.029], satellite nodules (OR =9.198, 95% CI: 1.402-60.339, P=0.021), and parameter LLCER value (OR =0.906, 95% CI: 0.826-0.995, P=0.039) were independent predictors of ER of HCC after resection. CONCLUSIONS Preoperative Gd-EOB-DTPA enhanced MRI has important predictive value for early recurrence after radical resection of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to investigate the diagnosis performance of new shear wave elastography (sound touch elastography, STE) in the prediction of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) response at an early stage in breast cancer patients and to determine the optimal measurement locations around the lesion in different ranges. METHODS One hundred and eight patients were analyzed in this prospective study from November 2018 to December 2020. All patients completed NAC treatment and underwent STE examination at three time points [the day before NAC (t0); the day before the second course (t1); the day before third course (t2)]. The stiffness of the whole lesion (G), 1-mm shell (S1) and 2-mm shell (S2) around the lesion was expressed by STE parameters. The relative changes (∆stiffness) of STE parameters after the first and second course of NAC were calculated and shown as the variables [Δ(t1) and Δ(t2)]. The diagnostic accuracy of STE was evaluated by means of receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. RESULTS The ∆stiffness (%) including ∆Gmean(t2), ∆S1mean(t2) and ∆S2mean(t2) all showed significant differences between pathological complete response (pCR) and non-pCR groups. ∆S2mean(t2) displayed the best predictive performance for pCR (AUC = 0.842) with an ideal ∆stiffness threshold value - 26%. CONCLUSIONS Measuring the relative changes in the stiffness of surrounding tissue or entire lesion with STE holds promise for effectively predicting the response to NAC at its early stage for breast cancer patients and ∆stiffness of shell 2 mm after the second course of NAC may be a potential prediction parameter.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Primary mediastinal leiomyosarcomas are extremely rare. We report a case of leiomyosarcoma around the thoracic and abdominal aorta, mimicking an aortic hematoma, and discuss the diagnostic value of ultrasound.
CASE SUMMARY A 63-year-old female was hospitalized for abdominal pain. Initial computed tomography angiography revealed an enhanced mass around the lower thoracic and upper abdominal aorta. Aortic hematoma was strongly suspected, and stents were placed by interventional surgery. About 1 mo postoperatively, the patient was re-hospitalized because of progressive abdominal pain. Ultrasound showed that the mass had a heterogeneous echo. In contrast-enhanced ultrasound, the hyperechoic regions were filled with contrast medium after the aortic region was, indicating that the blood supply was abundant but had no direct connection with the aorta. There was no obvious contrast medium-filling in the hypoechoic area. These findings were similar to those of malignant tumors with liquefaction and necrosis. Positron emission tomography/computed tomography confirmed that the mass had a high metabolic signal similar to that of a malignant tumor. Leiomyosarcoma was confirmed by postoperative pathology.
CONCLUSION Symptoms of mediastinal leiomyosarcoma surrounding the aorta may mimic aortic hematoma. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound can provide valuable and unique diagnostic clues.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to investigate the technical efficiency and therapeutic response of fusion imaging (considered as virtual navigation) between contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and contrast-enhanced computed tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (CECT/CEMRI) for the guidance of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in patients with residual hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE). METHODS For this prospective study, 98 patients with residual HCC lesions after TACE treatment were enrolled between June 2017 and December 2020. All the lesions were invisible on conventional ultrasound scans. Percutaneous RFA was performed using either CEUS (CEUS group, 52 lesions) or virtual navigation (VN group, 46 lesions) guidance. The lesion display rate, disease-free survival rate, local recurrence rate, overall survival rate and complication incidence were calculated and compared. RESULTS Fusion imaging had a significant impact on the RFA outcomes (hazard ratio, 2.629; 95% confidence interval, 1.256-5.505; p = .01). The median disease-free survival time of the VN group was significantly higher than that of the CEUS group (10.9 vs. 8.8 months; p = .007). The local recurrence rates after 3, 6 and 12 months in the VN group were significantly lower than those in the CEUS group (p = .014, .002 and .011). The minor complication rate was not significantly different between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS CEUS-CECT/CEMRI fusion imaging for guiding RFA enables an efficient and useful therapy of inconspicuous HCC lesions after TACE. The novel solution prolongs the disease-free survival time and reduces the long-term local recurrence of residual lesions treated when using virtual-navigation (VN)-guided RFA.

Abstract
BACKGROUND No reports are available on the technical efficiency and therapeutic response of virtual navigation (VN)-guided radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for patients with recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after hepatic resection. The aim of this study was to investigate the overall technical performance and outcome of VN-guided RFA in recurrent HCC patients. In addition, a nomogram model was developed to predict the factors influencing the overall survival (OS). METHODS This was a prospective study on 76 recurrent HCC patients who underwent VN-guided RFA between June 2015 and February 2018. The technical feasibility, success, and efficiency, OS, local tumor progression, and complications were evaluated. A multivariate Cox regression analysis was conducted to predict the significant factors, and a nomogram including independent predictive factors was subsequently plotted to predict OS. RESULTS The technical feasibility, success, and efficiency rates of VN-guided RFA were 86.4%, 94.7%, and 97.4%, respectively. The cumulative OS rates at 1-, 2-, and 3-year were 88.1%, 79.7%, and 71.0%, respectively. The cumulative local tumor progression rates at 1-, 2-, and 3-year were 5.5%, 8.7%, and 14.0%, respectively. In addition, the minor and major complication rates were 5.3% and 3.9%, respectively. No intervention-related deaths occurred during the follow-up period. The C-index of the OS nomogram in this study was 0.737. CONCLUSIONS VN-guided RFA is an effective therapeutic option in recurrent HCC patients and improves the long-term outcomes especially for the lesions that cannot be detected in the two-dimensional ultrasound. Besides, the nomogram may be a useful supporting tool in predicting OS to estimate the individual survival probability, optimize treatment options, and facilitate decision-making.

Abstract
BACKGROUND China has had about 1.2 billion mobile-phone users, and this number continues to grow. However, mobile-health services (mHealth) are currently in the initial stage, and have not yet prevailed in China. Additionally, the prevalence of Parkinson's disease (PD) in China is 1700/100,000 (≥65 years). Indeed, these PD patients would benefit from mHealth to manage their disease. Therefore, we designed a study to determine attitudes toward smartphone applications (apps) for chronic condition self-management, and to discover the practicality of these apps among PD patients in China. METHODS We selected 204 participants with PD between 52 and 87 years old and surveyed their attitudes concerning the use of smartphone apps for chronic condition management via questionnaires. RESULTS Among the participants, 65.19% had smartphones. Among these smartphone users, 82.84% expressed a preference for using apps for PD management. This group tended to be younger and more frequent web users with higher education and better medication compliance, and they tended to have a longer PD course and worse conditions (P < 0.001, P = 0.001, P < 0.001, P = 0.041, P < 0.001, P = 0.013). Additionally, the willingness to apply apps for PD self-management was positively related to education (P < 0.001) and negatively related to age and PD course (P = 0.017, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION In China, patients with PD have a generally positive attitude towards self-management through smartphone apps. Consequently, improving the coverage of smartphones with practical and handy apps is a promising strategy for PD self-management.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the effects of two dimensional gray-scale blood flow imaging (hereinafter referred to as " B-flow" ) combined with color Doppler flow imaging (CDFI) in guiding arterial puncture and catheterization through wounds in patients with large burns. Methods: Sixty-seven patients with large burns who met the inclusion criteria and hospitalized in the First Hospital of Jilin University from January 2017 to January 2019 were enrolled in the prospectively randomized control study. According to the random number table, CDFI alone group was allocated with 35 patients (23 males and 12 females) and B-flow+ CDFI group with 32 patients (22 males and 10 females), aged 19-60 and 18-58 years, respectively. According to the progress of the disease, arterial puncture and catheterization were performed in the right time. During the operation, CDFI was used alone for guidance in patients of CDFI alone group, while B-flow and CDFI were used together for guidance in patients of B-flow+ CDIF group. Based on the first time of catheterization, the catheterization location, one-time catheterization success rate, post-back stitching re-catheterization success rate, catheterization failure rate, catheterization duration, and incidences of wound sepsis, catheter-related bloodstream infection, and arterial thrombosis within post catheterization day (PCD) 3 of patients in the two groups were recorded. Data were statistically analyzed with the independent-sample t test, chi-square test or Fisher's exact probability test. Results: (1) All the patients underwent catheterization through wounds, and there was no statistically significant difference in catheterization location of patients between the two groups (χ(2)=0.574, P>0.05). The one-time catheterization success rate of patients in B-flow+ CDFI group was 81.25% (26/32), which was obviously higher than 51.43% (18/35) in CDFI alone group (χ(2)=6.594, P<0.05). The catheterization failure rate of patients in B-flow+ CDFI group was 3.12% (1/32), which was obviously lower than 20.00% (7/35) in CDFI alone group (P<0.05). The post-back stitching re-catheterization success rate of patients was similar between the two groups (χ(2)=1.029, P>0.05). (3) The catheterization duration of patients was (15.7±1.1) min in B-flow+ CDFI group, which was obviously shorter than (17.1±2.2) min in CDFI alone group (t=11.316, P<0.01). (4) Within PCD 3, the incidences of wound sepsis and catheter-related bloodstream infection of patients in CDFI alone group were 2.86% (1/35) and 0, close to 0 and 3.12% (1/32) in B-flow+ CDFI group (P>0.05); the incidence of arterial thrombosis of patients in B-flow+ CDFI group was 0, which was obviously lower than 20.00% (7/35) in CDFI alone group (P<0.05). Conclusions: Compared with CDFI alone, B-flow combined with CDFI can improve the success rate of arterial puncture and catheterization through wounds in large area burn patients, shorten the catheterization duration, and effectively reduce the incidence of arterial thrombosis after catheterization, with a good clinical application value.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to pre-operatively investigate the diagnostic performance of 2D shear wave elastography (2D-SWE) for staging liver fibrosis and inflammation in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who then undergo surgery and to determine the optimal locations for measurement. In total, 106 patients were enrolled in this prospective study from March 2017 to May 2018. Two-dimensional SWE was used to measure liver stiffness (LS) in each patient 0-1, 1-2 and 2-5 cm from the tumor border (groups 1, 2 and 3, respectively). Spearman's correlation was used to evaluate the relationships between LS and hepatic fibrosis and between LS and inflammation. Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis was used to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of 2D-SWE. The technical success rate of SWE in tissue distant from the tumor (group 3) was significantly higher than that in peri-tumoral tissue (groups 1 and 2) (p < 0.001). Moreover, the area under the ROC for diagnosing cirrhosis (F4) and severe inflammation (A3) was higher for group 3 than for groups 1 and 2. Our results suggest that 2D-SWE is a helpful approach to assessment of hepatic fibrosis in HCC patients before hepatic resection. We found that to achieve a superior success rate and preferable diagnosis accuracy for patients with HCC, LS measurement should be performed 2-5 cm from the tumor margin.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Ultrasonography-guided percutaneous drainage for pancreatic fluid collections is associated with a high recurrence rate and endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS)-guided drainage is a valuable approach. Our aim was to compare the efficacy and safety of percutaneous and EUS-guided drainage for the recurrent pancreatic fluid collections. MATERIAL AND METHODS A retrospective analysis of percutaneous-guided and EUS-guided procedures for pancreatic fluid collections drainages at a single tertiary care center between February 2017 and May 2018 was performed. Treatment success, adverse events, recurrence, need for surgery, length of hospital stays, and number of follow-up computed tomography (CT) scan were assessed. RESULTS A total of 119 pancreatic fluid collections treated with initial percutaneous drainage were included in this study and 35 patients had recurrent pancreatic fluid collections. Recurrent patients were classified based on drainage method: EUS-guided drainage (18 patients) and the second percutaneous drainage (17 patients). EUS-guided drainage revealed a shorter length of hospital stays (P<0.001), less re-intervention (P=0.047), fewer number of follow-up CT scans (P=0.006) compared with the initial percutaneous drainage. Furthermore, we also compared the clinical outcomes between the EUS-guided drainage and the second percutaneous drainage for the recurrent PFC after initially failed percutaneous drainage. EUS-guided drainage showed higher clinical success (P=0.027), shorter length of hospital stays (P<0.001), less re-intervention (P=0.012), fewer number of follow-up CT scan (P<0.001) and less recurrence P=0.027) compared to the second percutaneous drainage procedure. CONCLUSIONS EUS-guided drainage is an effective and appropriate method to treat the recurrent pancreatic fluid collections after initially failed percutaneous drainage procedure, with the advantage of higher clinical success, shorter length of hospital stays, less re-intervention, fewer number of follow-up CT scan and less recurrence compared to the percutaneous drainage.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To summarize and analyze the etiology, clinical manifestations and imaging features of children with cerebral infarction. METHODS A retrospective analysis was performed for the clinical data of 54 children with cerebral infarction, including etiology, clinical manifestations, distribution of infarcts, type of infarcts and clinical outcome. RESULTS Of the 54 children, 93% had a clear cause, among whom 46% had the coexistence of multiple factors, and the top three causes were infection (54%), vascular disease (40%) and trauma (26%). Major clinical manifestations included limb paralysis (85%), pyrexia (20%), disturbance of consciousness (19%) and convulsion (17%). As for the location of infarcts, 80% of the infarcts were located in the cerebral cortex and 52% in the basal ganglia. Major types of infarcts were small-area infarcts (74%) and multifocal infarcts (56%). Viral encephalitis was the most common cause of cerebral infarction caused by infection, with the cerebral cortex as the most common location of infarcts (21/23, 91%) and multiple infarcts as the most common type of infarcts (13/23, 57%). Among the 12 children with cerebral infarction caused by nonspecific endarteritis, 10 (83%) had infarcts located in the basal ganglia and only one child had multiple infarcts. Among the five children with cerebral infarction caused by moyamoya disease, four children (80%) had infarcts located in the cerebral cortex, and large-area infarction (4/5, 80%) and multifocal infarction (4/5, 80%) were the major types of infarcts. Among the children with traumatic cerebral infarcts, 92% had infarcts located in the basal ganglia, and small-area infarcts (92%) and single infarcts (85%) were the major types of infarcts. Among the 46 children with limb paralysis, 34 (74%) had infarcts located in the basal ganglia; 50% of the children with disturbance of consciousness had infarcts located in the basal ganglia. Subcortical infarcts were observed in all six children with epilepsy. Seventy-five percent of the infarcts located in the cerebral cortex and 87% of the infarcts located in the basal ganglia had a good prognosis. Among the two children with cerebral infarcts located in the brainstem, one had the sequela of hemiplegia and the other had the sequela of cognitive impairment. Eighty-eight percent of the children with cerebral infarction caused by infection and 82% of the children with traumatic cerebral infarction tended to have a good prognosis, and 83% of the children with cerebral infarction caused by nonspecific endarteritis had good prognosis. Recurrence was observed in all three children with cerebral infarction caused by vascular malformations. Of the five children with cerebral infarction caused by moyamoya disease, one child died and four children survived with the sequela of localized brain atrophy, among whom one child also had the sequela of epilepsy. CONCLUSIONS Infection, vascular disease and trauma are the most common causes of cerebral infarction in children, and limb paralysis is the most common clinical manifestation. Cerebral cortex is the most common infarct site, and small-area infarcts and multifocal infarcts are the most common types of infarcts, which tend to have a better prognosis.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of α7nAChR mediated cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway on inhibition of atrial fibrillation by low-level vagus nerve stimulation(LL-VNS). Methods: Eighteen beagles were randomized into control group (n=6), LL-VNS group (n=6) and methyllycaconitine (MLA) + LL-VNS group (n=6). All the beagles were subjected to rapid atrial pacing at 800 beats/min for 6 hours.And the effective refractory period (ERP) of atriums and pulmonary veins and induced atrial fibrillation (AF) were measured hourly during non-pacing.After cessation of pacing for 3 hours, the beagles in control group were injected with saline into four ganglionated plexis (GPs), the beagles in LL-VNS group were given LL-VNS and saline injected into four GPs, and the beagles in MLA+ LL-VNS group were injected with MLA into four GPs combined with LL-VNS.And the levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and acetylcholine (ACh) in the plasma at baseline condition, 3 h and 6 h were measured.At the end of this experiment, atrial tissues were collected to examine the levels of TNF-α, IL-6, ACh, NF-κBp65 and STAT3 proteins. Results: During the right atrium pacing for the first 3 hours, the ERPs were gradually decreased while AF inducibility were gradually increased in all groups. At the end of this experiment, compared with the control group and MLA+ LL-VNS group, the ERPs in LL-VNS group were increased, and the induced times and duration of AF were significantly decreased. The levels of TNF-α and IL-6 in plasma were all significantly decreased in LL-VNS group and MLA+ LL-VNS group when compared with the control group(pg/ml) [IL-6: (101±6) vs (119±7), P<0.05; (102±5) vs (119±7), P<0.05; TNF-α: (17.8±1.7) vs (22.1±2.0), P<0.05; (17.9±2.2) vs (22.1±2.0), P<0.05]. And the levels of ACh were higher than in the control group(μg/ml)[(151±13) vs (123±10), P<0.05; (145±5) vs (123±10), P<0.05]. After cessation of pacing for 6 hours, compared with the control groupand MLA+ LL-VNS group, the tissue levels of TNF-α and IL-6 were significantly decreased in LL-VNS group (P<0.05). The concentrations of NF-κBp65 proteins in atrial tissues were lower in the LL-VNS group (P<0.05), and the levels of STAT3 proteins in those tissues were higher in the LL-VNS group than in thein the two other groups (P<0.05). Conclusion: LL-VNS could inhibit the atrial electrical remodeling and atrial fibrillation induction; cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway mediated by α7nAChR may be the important mechanism in vagal nerve regulated AF.

Abstract
Pancreatic pseudocyst (PPC), a common sequela of acute or chronic pancreatitis, was defined by the revised Atlanta classification as “a collection.” Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided drainage is often considered a standard first-line therapy for patients with symptomatic PPC. This effective approach exhibits 90%-100% technical success and 85%-98% clinical success. Bleeding is a deadly adverse event associated with EUS-guided drainage procedures, and the bleeding rate ranges from 3% to 14%. Hemostasis involves conservative treatment, endoscopy, interventional radiology-guided embolization and surgery. However, few studies have reported on EUS-guided drainage with massive, multiple hemorrhages related to severe pancreatogenic portal hypertension (PPH). Thus, the aim of this case report was to present a case using a balloon dilator to achieve successful hemostasis for PPH-related massive bleeding in EUS-guided drainage of PPC. To our knowledge, this method has not been previously reported.

Abstract
Two-dimensional shear wave elastography (2D-SWE) is a rapid, simple and novel noninvasive method that has been proposed for assessing hepatic fibrosis in patients with chronic liver diseases (CLDs) based on measurements of liver stiffness. 2D-SWE can be performed easily at the bedside or in an outpatient clinic and yields immediate results with good reproducibility. Furthermore, 2D-SWE was an efficient method for evaluating liver fibrosis in small to moderately sized clinical trials. However, the quality criteria for the staging of liver fibrosis are not yet well defined. Liver fibrosis is the main pathological basis of liver stiffness and a key step in the progression from CLD to cirrhosis; thus, the management of CLD largely depends on the extent and progression of liver fibrosis. 2D-SWE appears to be an excellent tool for the early detection of cirrhosis and may have prognostic value in this context. Because 2D-SWE has high patient acceptance, it could be useful for monitoring fibrosis progression and regression in individual cases. However, multicenter data are needed to support its use. This study reviews the current status and future perspectives of 2D-SWE for assessments of liver fibrosis and discusses the technical advantages and limitations that impact its effective and rational clinical use.

Abstract
In this study, we aimed to evaluate the inhibitory effect of baicalin on Escherichia coli in vitro and the effects of baicalin treatment on antimicrobial resistance of the E. coli isolates. Through isolation, purification, and identification, a total of 56 E. coli strains were isolated from 341 mastitic milk samples. The study of inhibition effect of baicalin on the E. coli strains in vitro was focused on permeability and morphology of the isolates using an alkaline phosphatase kit and scanning electron microscopy. Furthermore, the resistance spectrum of the isolates to the common antimicrobial agents was tested at sub-minimum inhibitory concentrations of baicalin by the agar dilution method. Extended-spectrum β-lactamase and plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance genes were amplified by PCR before and after incubation with baicalin. The results revealed that baicalin has certain inhibitory effects on the isolates in vitro. The alkaline phosphatase enzyme activity was significantly increased from 1.246 to 2.377 U/100 mL, and the surface of E. coli was concave and shriveled. Analysis of the resistance spectrum and PCR amplification showed that, after administration with baicalin, the sensitivity of most strains to the selected antimicrobial agents was enhanced. Strikingly, the drug-resistant genes from 71.43% (40/56) of these isolates were found to have drug-resistant genes to different extents. Altogether, the current study confirmed both the inhibitory effect on Escherichia coli in vitro and the reduction of antimicrobial resistance by baicalin. This is the first comprehensive study to report on baicalin, a traditional Chinese medicine that acts on E. coli isolated from the mastitic milk samples.

Abstract
This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of EUS-guided ethanol injection and 125I seed brachytherapy for malignant left-sided liver tumors which were difficult for trans-abdominal intervention. The study protocol was registered at Clinicaltrials.gov (NCT02816944). Twenty-six patients were consecutively and prospectively hospitalized for EUS-guided interventional treatment of refractory malignant left-sided liver tumors between June 2014 and June 2016. Liver masses were detected using EUS in 25 of 26 (96.2%) patients. EUS-guided interventional treatment was completed uneventfully in 23 of 26 (88.5%) patients using anhydrous ethanol injection (n = 10) or iodine-125 seed implantation (n = 13). Six months later, complete response was achieved in 15 of 23 (65.2%) patients and partial response in 8 of 23 (34.8%) patients. Patients with tumor residual have second-look EUS-guided interventional treatment (n = 5), radiotherapy (n = 2) or surgical resection (n = 1). Complete response was achieved after repeated interventional treatment in 3 of 5 patients who underwent second EUS-guided intervention; 2 patients required additional surgical resection but one succeed. No significant complications occurred. Therefore EUS-guided 125I seed brachytherapy is an effective and safe treatment modality for radical operation or promising palliative control of malignant left-sided liver tumors refractory to trans-abdominal intervention.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the ability of two non-invasive fibrosis indexes-APRI, i. e. aspartate transaminase (AST) to platelet (PLT) ratio index, and fibrosis index based on the 4 factors (FIB-4)score in predicting ALFD in patients with unresectable primary HCC and underwent TACE. METHODS Clinical data of those patients treated with TACE in Department of Interventional Radiology of the Center from Jan 2010 to Aug 2014 were investigated retrospectively. A total of 366 cases were enrolled after randomized selection, 62 (18.5%) of which developed ALFD after TACE. Child-Pugh score, APRI and FIB-4 score in every case were calculated, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve of each model were performed and the predictive abilities of them were assessed by area under the curve (AUC), positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), sensitivity and specificity. RESULTS The AUC of Child-Pugh score, APRI and FIB-4 score were 0.783, 0.752 and 0.758 respectively, while the difference had no significance in statistics, indicating that predictive accuracies of them were similar. APRI≤1.15 and FIB-4≤3.08 had better NPV (90.6% and 93.6%) and sensitivity (65.6% and 80.0%) than Child-Pugh score>6 (NPV=85.8%, sensitivity=27.4%), PPV and specificity of them are 35.7%, 32.9%, 89.5% and 73.7%, 64.2%, 99.3% respectively. CONCLUSION Comparing to Child-Pugh score, APRI and FIB-4 score have similar accuracy but better NPV and sensitivity in predicting post-TACE ALFD. Thereafter they are good for selection of low-risk patients for TACE treatment. Candidates with an APRI≤1.15 or a FIB-4≤3.08 or in Child-Pugh a stage are unlikely to develop ALFD thus could receive TACE safely.

Abstract
Panicle exsertion (PE) is an important morphological trait that is closely associated with spikelet fertility and grain yield. To understand the genetic basis of PE and its relationships with yield and yield-related traits, a recombinant inbred population consisting of 240 lines derived from a cross between an Indica cultivar 'Kasalath' and a Japonica germplasm 'TD70', was studied over two years. PE was significantly correlated with plant height, heading date (HD), panicle length (PL), and panicle characteristics such as primary branch number, spikelet number per panicle, and spikelet density, but showed poor correlation with yield components. Based on linkage mapping of 141 SSR markers, a total of 38 quantitative trait loci (QTLs) were located for 12 investigated traits, with the contribution varying from 6.51 to 8.61%. Among these, four QTL clusters were identified on chromosomes 1, 2, 3, and 6, suggesting the existence of pleiotropic alleles. In some intervals, two loci for PE were collocated with several traits, which is consistent with the correlations observed with phenotypic variations. The PE QTLs with 'Kasalath' alleles and without pleiotropic effects would be valuable for the improvement of PE in 'TD70' and in other rice varieties.

Abstract
MicroRNA (miRNA) and long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) have been demonstrated to participate in the progression of many cancers. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common and aggressive malignant tumors worldwide, while the molecular mechanisms underlying HCC tumorigenesis are not completely clear. In this study, we showed that miR-92b was significantly upregulated in tumor tissue and plasma of HCC patients, and its expression level was highly correlated with gender and microvascular invasion. Functionally, miR-92b could promote cell proliferation and metastasis of HCC in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistic investigations suggested that Smad7, which exhibited an inverse relationship with miR-92b expression in HCC, was a direct target of miR-92b and could reverse its effects on HCC tumorigenesis. Furthermore, long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) X-inactive specific transcript (XIST) and miR-92b could directly interact with and repress each other, and XIST could inhibit HCC cell proliferation and metastasis by targeting miR-92b. Taken together, our study not only revealed for the first time the importance of XIST/miR-92b/Smad7 signaling axis in HCC progression but also suggested the potential value of miR-92b as a biomarker in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of HCC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Percutaneous ethanol injection has been widely used as a non-surgical therapy for liver cancer, but it has some shortcomings such as local diffusion and unequal permeation. This study was designed to observe the volume, controllability and completeness of necrosis after injection of low concentration sodium hydroxide in the normal liver parenchyma so as to assess its possibility in treatment of liver cancer instead of ethanol. METHODS Twenty-seven New Zealand rabbits were divided randomly into 9 groups (Aa, Ab, Ac, Ba, Bb, Bc, Ca, Cb, and Cc) by a 3 x 3(three-by-three) factorial design, each consisting of 3 rabbits. Group A was given sodium hydroxide solution at a concentration of 5%, while B at 2.5% and C at 1% in liver parenchyma. Each group received three doses of the solution: a (0.2 ml), b (0.5 ml) and c (1.0 ml). Then another 3 rabbits as side-effect group were dropped with sodium hydroxide solution in their liver lobe space. Liver and renal function changes in all the rabbits were compared after injection with pre-injection. RESULTS All the lesions were localized. At the concentration of 2.5% and 5%, the lesion volume increased with the dose increased from 0.2 ml to 1.0 ml (P<0.05). No significant differences were found in the lesion volume of the groups receiving the same dose but different concentration. Changes in liver and renal function were not significant 7 days after injection, compared with those before injection. CONCLUSIONS 2.5% and 5% sodium hydroxide solution could control local complete necrosis in normal liver. With regard to safety, 2.5% alkali solution is considered promising as a new agent for intratumoral injection therapy instead of ethanol.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hepatic angiomyolipoma (HAML) is a rare tumor containing a variable amount of fat, vessels and smooth muscle. We report the image findings on ultrasonography and computed tomography (CT) of huge HAML. METHOD The clinical, imaging and pathological data of a case of HAML were retrospectively collected and analyzed. RESULTS A huge heterogeneous hyperecho mass with anecho and hypoecho areas inside was found in the left hepatic lobe on ultrasonography. Color Doppler showed blood flow and arterial spectrum in it. CT scan showed a huge heterogeneous solid mass in the left lobe of the liver, with a low density and hypervascular area in arterial phase. The serum tumor marks were all negative. Ultrasound-guided biopsy was taken twice before resection and both showed necrosis tissue and reaction of inflammatory cells. Postoperative pathological results showed that the tumor was composed of epithelioid smooth muscle cells, thick-walled blood vessels and a few adipose cells with necrosis. The immunohistochemistry results showed appearance of typical HAML, with HMB-45 positive and alpha fetoprotein (AFP) negative. CONCLUSIONS Preoperative diagnosis of HAML relies on combination of CT, MRI and ultrasonography. Our case of HAML showed heterogeneous hyperecho image on ultrasonography. Ultrasound-guided biopsy combined with morphological manifestation and specimen examination for HMB-45 may be helpful in the diagnosis of HAML.

Abstract
A peptide with a bacterial-growth-stimulating activity was isolated from a bovine hemoglobin hydrolysate by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography. Its primary structure and molecular mass, determined by amino acid analysis and fast-atom bombardment mass spectrometry, were identical to those of fragment 48-52 (Ser-Thr-Ala-Asp-Ala) of the beta chain of bovine hemoglobin. The microbiological tests in solid media demonstrated that this peptide exhibited a growth-stimulating activity on gram-negative bacteria.

Abstract
To study the interrelationships of steroids within the follicle, combined 6-h infusions of [3H]dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate and [14C] testosterone ([14C]T) were performed in four normal women treated with menotropins who were undergoing medically indicated surgery. The concentrations of tracer and/or nonisotopic dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate, androst-5-ene-3 beta,17 beta-diol sulfate, androst-5-ene-3 beta,17 beta-diol, dehydroepiandrosterone, androstenedione, T, dihydrotestosterone, estrone (E1), and estradiol (E2) were determined in arterial and venous blood and follicular fluid. The log-transformed product/precursor ratio of [3H]dihydrotestosterone/[3H]T in follicular fluid was negatively correlated with the log-transformed follicular concentrations of E1 (P = 0.01) and E2 (P = 0.02), suggesting a reciprocal relationship between 5 alpha-reductase and follicular E1 and E2. E2 and T were positively correlated in follicular fluid (r = 0.84; P = 0.0003), suggesting a stimulatory action of follicular T on aromatase. These findings along with extensive published data suggest that follicular T functions as a follicular regulator, enhancing follicular aromatase activity when adequate amounts of FSH are available. These conclusions have important implications with regard to mechanisms for selecting the dominant follicle and producing atresia in the remaining cohort of follicles, and they describe a final common path in the pathophysiology of anovulation.

Abstract
Evidence has suggested that dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DS) is a prehormone for ovarian steroidogenesis. To study this hypothesis, combined 6-h infusions of [3H]dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate and [14C]testosterone ([14C]T) were performed in four normal women treated with menotropins who were undergoing medically indicated surgery, and the data were compared to those from nine normal women. The concentrations of tracer and nonisotopic DS, androst-5-ene-3 beta,17 beta-diol sulfate (delta 5diolS), androst-5-ene-3 beta,17 beta-diol (delta 5diol), dehydroepiandrosterone (D), androstenedione (delta 4A), and T were determined in arterial and venous blood and in follicular fluid. From these data, the concentrations and fractions of steroids in the follicular fluid that were derived from DS were calculated from the specific activity of intravascular DS and the concentrations of follicular fluid tracer steroids and their specific activities. The fractions of T (0.48), delta 5diol (0.31), delta 5diolS (0.42), and D (0.25) in follicular fluid arising from circulating DS were similar and were not significantly different from that of follicular DS arising from circulating DS (0.32). However, the fraction of follicular fluid delta 4A (0.041) was significantly less (P < 0.01), and the fractions of intrafollicular estrone and estradiol arising from DS were both less than 0.04. The mean MCR of DS in the women treated with menotropins of 22.0 +/- 3.5 L/day (mean +/- SE) was significantly higher than the normal control value. These findings elucidate an important mechanism of adrenal/ovarian interaction at the level of steroidogenesis; circulating DS serves as a prehormone for the production of intrafollicular delta 5diolS, delta 5 diol, D, and T.

Abstract
The existence of angiotensin II immunoreactive substance in rat cardiovascular system was demonstrated by RIA and immunohistochemistry techniques. In atrium, aorta and cultured rat aorta smooth muscle cells, angiotensin II content is 7.2 + 2.7 pg/mg protein, 152.4 + 59.2 pg/mg protein and 3.5 + 0.8 pg/2 x 10(5) cells respectively. Endothelin, a potent vasoconstricting polypeptide, can enhance the release of angiotensin II from cultured rat aorta and aortic smooth muscle cells significantly. The results suggest that endothelin may be involved in the regulation of local blood flow and vascular tone, and it may also implicate the pathogenesis of some cardiovascular diseases such as cardiohypertrophy and vascular hypertrophy.

Abstract
Gel-permeation high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and reversed-phase HPLC were used to separate a mixture of peptides, produced at pilot-plant scale by peptic hydrolysis of bovine haemoglobin. Volatile buffers were employed in both HPLC techniques in order to get an easy recovery of peptides for further applications. The method is more rapid than low-pressure gel filtration. Amino acid analysis and fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry confirmed the purity, and allowed accurate molecular weights to be determined, for isolated peptides. These data demonstrate that such efficient techniques, usually used to resolve hydrolysates obtained in batch with pure substrates and highly specific enzymes, can be employed to resolve complex enzymatic hydrolysates of crude protein.
