Abstract
Muscle tissue engineering is a promising therapeutic strategy for volumetric muscle loss (VML). Among them, decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) biological scaffolds have shown certain effects in restoring muscle function. However, researchers have inconsistent or even contradictory results on whether dECM biological scaffolds can efficiently regenerate muscle fibers and restore muscle function. This suggests that therapeutic strategies based on dECM biological scaffolds need to be further optimized and developed. In this study, we used a recellularization method of perfusing adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) and L6 into adipose dECM (adECM) through vascular pedicles. On one hand, this strategy ensures sufficient quantity and uniform distribution of seeded cells inside scaffold. On the other hand, auxiliary L6 cells addresses the issue of low myogenic differentiation efficiency of ASCs. Subsequently, the treatment of VML animal experiments showed that the combined recellularization strategy can improve muscle regeneration and angiogenesis than the single ASCs recellularization strategy, and the TA of former had greater muscle contraction strength. Further single-nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq) analysis found that L6 cells induced ASCs transform into a new subpopulation of cells highly expressing Mki67, CD34 and CDK1 genes, which had stronger ability of oriented myogenic differentiation. This study demonstrates that co-seeding ASCs and L6 cells through vascular pedicles is a promising recellularization strategy for adECM biological scaffolds, and the engineered muscle tissue constructed based on this has significant therapeutic effects on VML. Overall, this study provides a new paradigm for optimizing and developing dECM-based therapeutic strategies.

Abstract
ZEB1 is an essential factor in embryonic development. In adults, it is often highly expressed in malignant tumors with low expression in normal tissues. The major biological function of ZEB1 in developing embryos and progressing cancers is to transdifferentiate cells from an epithelial to mesenchymal phenotype; but what roles ZEB1 plays in normal adult tissues are largely unknown. We previously reported that the reduction of Zeb1 in monoallelic global knockout (Zeb1+/-) mice reduced corneal inflammation-associated neovascularization following alkali burn. To uncover the cellular mechanism underlying the Zeb1 regulation of corneal inflammation, we functionally deleted Zeb1 alleles in Csf1r+ myeloid cells using a conditional knockout (cKO) strategy and found that Zeb1 cKO reduced leukocytes in the cornea after alkali burn. The reduction of immune cells was due to their increased apoptotic rate and linked to a Zeb1-downregulated apoptotic pathway. We conclude that Zeb1 facilitates corneal inflammatory response by maintaining Csf1r+ cell viability.

Abstract
PURPOSE In recent years, epidemiological studies have revealed the relationship between gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and cardiovascular disease (CVD). In this study, we utilized Mendelian randomization (MR) to investigate the potential causal impact of GDM on cardiovascular disease for the first time. METHODS We retrieved summary statistics from published genome-wide association studies. MR was first performed using significant SNPs extracted from the eighth data release of the FinnGen study. Next, a replication analysis for coronary artery disease (CAD) was conducted in another European ancestry population to validate our findings. Finally, mediation analysis was carried out to assess potential mediation effects. RESULTS Our data analysis revealed that genetically predicted GDM was significantly associated with increased CAD risk (OR 1.10, 95% CI 1.02-1.18, p 0.006). Replication analysis confirmed a significant genetic association between GDM and CAD (OR 1.07, 95% CI 1.02-1.12, p 0.003) in another European ancestry population. Mediation analysis indicated no significant mediation effect by type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) on the GDM-CAD relationship (mediation effect β [95% CI]: 0.005 [-0.003, -0.017]). CONCLUSION Women with a prior history of GDM face an elevated risk of future CAD. This increased risk of CAD cannot be solely attributed to the subsequent onset of diabetes. Regular CAD risk assessment and primary prevention strategies are of paramount importance for women with a history of GDM.

Abstract
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex autoimmune disease of unknown etiology. It is marked by the production of pathogenic autoantibodies and the deposition of immune complexes. Lupus nephritis (LN) is a prevalent and challenging clinical complications of SLE. Cortex Moutan contains paeonol as its main effective component. In this study, using the animal model of SLE induced by R848, it was found that paeonol could alleviate the lupus-like symptoms of lupus mouse model induced by R848 activating TLR7, reduce the mortality and ameliorate the renal damage of mice. In order to explore the mechanism of paeonol on lupus nephritis, we studied the effect of paeonol on the polarization of Raw264.7 macrophages in vitro. The experimental results show that paeonol can inhibit the polarization of macrophages to M1 and promote their polarization to M2, which may be related to the inhibition of MAPK and NF-κB signaling pathways. Our research provides a new insight into paeonol in the treatment of lupus nephritis, which is of great importance for the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus and its complications.

Abstract
Balancing water demand for socio-economic development and ecosystem stability presents a challenge for regional sustainable management, especially in drylands. Previous studies have indicated that large-scale ecological restoration projects (ERPs) lead to a decline in terrestrial water storage (TWS) in the Mu Us Sandyland (MUS). However, the effects of other human activities (e.g., cropland reclamation, coal mining) on water resources remain unclear, raising concerns regarding water crisis and human-natural system sustainability. Through the utilization of coal mine location data, we found that the impact of coal mass loss on the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) products cannot be ignored in MUS, especially in the coal-rich northeastern part. Combining these data with auxiliary datasets, we observed a significant (p < 0.05) decrease in TWS (-0.85 cm yr-1) and groundwater storage (GWS, -0.95 cm yr-1) in the MUS, with human activities accounting for 79.23 % of TWS and 90.45 % of GWS reductions, primarily due to increased agricultural and industrial water consumption. Agricultural water consumption increased 2.23 times from 2001 to 2020, attributed to enhanced water use intensity (62.6 %) and cropland expansion (37.4 %). Industrial water consumption in Shenmu, a representative coal county, experienced a 4.16-fold rise between 2001 and 2020. Despite these challenges, local governments have alleviated water stress, ensured food security, and increased household income by comprehensive management strategies, such as enhancing water-saving technology and enforcing stringent policies. Previous studies have overestimated the amount of water resources consumed by ERPs. However, ERPs has played a critical role in stabilizing the regional ecological environment and ensuring the region as a vital food and energy supplier. Our findings can guide for socio-economic development and water management policies in similar regions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND COVID-19 has been shown to increase the risk of extracorporeal coagulation during hemodialysis in patients, but the underlying mechanism remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effect and mechanism of COVID-19 on the risk of extracorporeal coagulation in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis. METHODS A retrospective analysis of the extracorporeal coagulation status of 339 hemodialysis patients at our center before and after COVID-19 infection was performed, including subgroup analyses. Post-infection blood composition was analyzed by protein spectrometry and ELISA. RESULTS Compared to the pre-COVID-19 infection period, COVID-19-induced extracorporeal coagulation predominantly occurred in patients with severe/critical symptoms. Further proteomic analysis demonstrated that in patients with severe/critical symptoms, the coagulation cascade reaction, platelet activation, inflammation, and oxidative stress-related pathways were significantly amplified compared to those in patients with no/mild symptoms. Notably, the vWF/FBLN5 pathway, which is associated with inflammation, vascular injury, and coagulation, was significantly upregulated. CONCLUSIONS Patients with severe/critical COVID-19 symptoms are at a higher risk of extracorporeal coagulation during hemodialysis, which is associated with the upregulation of the vWF/FBLN5 signaling pathway. These findings highlight the importance of early anticoagulant therapy initiation in COVID-19 patients with severe/critical symptoms, particularly those undergoing hemodialysis. Additionally, vWF/FBLN5 upregulation may be a novel mechanism for virus-associated thrombosis/coagulation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate the utilization of mobility device, whether age and gender-related use disparities exist, and whether falls can further explain use disparities over time among Chinese older adults in need of devices. METHODS Community-dwelling older adults who needed mobility devices and completed four waves of the China Health and Retirement Survey 2011-2018 were included (N = 1,302). A categorical variable was created to represent respondents' intersectionality of age (50-64, 65-74, and ≥75 years) and gender (men vs. women). RESULTS The baseline prevalence of device use was 18.2 % (n = 237). Overall, the device use increased over time. Intersectionality-wise, oldest-old women were 1.53 times more likely than youngest-old men to use devices over time. Respondents with falls were more likely to use devices over time. CONCLUSIONS Older adults with mobility impairment, especially the oldest-old women and those with falls, lag in mobility devices utilization, suggesting future tailored interventions to support these populations.

Abstract
PURPOSE This review systematically explores and summarise the effects of motor imagery training (MIT) compared to conventional therapy on gait performance in individuals after stroke. MATERIALS AND METHODS Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) were systematically searched in five electronic databases (PubMed, EMBASE, PsycINFO, OVID Nursing and CINAHL) from inception to 30 December 2022. Studies investigating MITs, targeted at individuals after stroke were eligible. Data were extracted related to study and intervention characteristics. RESULTS Sixteen studies were included. Compared with 'routine methods of treatment or training', the meta-analyses showed that MIT was more effective in improving cadence immediately post intervention (SMD: 1.22, 95% CI: 0.59, 1.85, p = 0.0001, I2 = 25%) and at 1- or 2-months post intervention (SMD: 0.78, 95% CI: 0.35, 1.20, p = 0.0004, I2 = 46%). The results also showed that MIT improves the step length of the affected side and the unaffected side at 1- or 2-months post intervention. Separate meta-analyses were also conducted on different tests of walking endurance (assessed by the 6-Minute Walk Test) and functional mobility (assessed by the Timed-Up-and-Go test). CONCLUSIONS MIT effectively improved gait performance. The findings in individuals after stroke remain inconclusive due to significant heterogeneity in included studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence on the association between particulate matter (PM) exposure and prognosis in people living with HIV/AIDS (PWHA) is scarce. We aim to investigate the associations of long-term exposure to PM with AIDS-related deaths and complications. METHODS We collected follow-up information on 7444 PWHAs from 2000 to 2021 from the HIV/AIDS Comprehensive Response Information Management System of the Wuhan Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The AIDS-related deaths and complications were assessed by physicians every 3 to 6 months, and the monthly average PM concentrations for each PWHA were extracted from the China High Air Pollutants dataset. We employed time-varying Cox regression models to evaluate the associations of the average cumulative PM exposure concentrations with AIDS-related deaths and complications, as well as the mediating effects of AIDS-related complications in PM-induced AIDS-related deaths. RESULTS For each 1 μg/m3 increase in PM1, PM2.5, and PM10, the adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) for AIDS-related deaths were 1.021 (1.009, 1.033), 1.012 (1.005, 1.020), and 1.010 (1.005, 1.015), respectively; and the HRs for AIDS-related complications were 1.049 (1.034, 1.064), 1.029 (1.020, 1.038), and 1.031 (1.024, 1.037), respectively. AIDS-related complications mediated 18.38 % and 18.68 % of the association of exposure to PM1 and PM2.5 with AIDS-related deaths, respectively. The association of PM exposure with AIDS-related deaths was more significant in older PWHA. Meanwhile, the association between PM exposure and AIDS-related complications was stronger in PWHA with a BMI ≥ 24 kg/m2. CONCLUSION Long-term exposure to PM is positively associated with AIDS-related deaths and complications, and AIDS-related complications have mediating effects in PM-induced AIDS-related deaths. Our evidence emphasizes that enhanced protection against PM exposure for PWHAs is an additional mitigation strategy to reduce AIDS-related deaths and complications.

Abstract
In this work, we developed a strategy to construct poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) composite plastics with excellent mechanical properties, superior thermal stability and enhanced biodegradability by combining acetylated celluloses (ECs) mediated by electron beam irradiation (EBI), which works as a toughening agent. With findings, the EBI pretreatment assisted with acetylation was applied to develop ECs materials with a higher degree of acetylation than acetylation alone. The pretreated ECs with increased hydrophobicity tended to decrease the chance of self-aggregation and enhanced the interfacial compatibility and adhesion with PBAT in PBAT/ECs composite plastics. Thus, PBAT/ECs composite plastics exhibited a smoother and more uniform surface structure during preparation and offered higher tensile strength, water vapor transmission rate, water absorption rate, thermal stability and degradation rate, and lower elongation at a break during application. On top of that, the PBAT/ECs composite plastics were characterized by a series of methods containing Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction, indicating that these properties are mainly caused by the acetylation of hydroxyl groups from cellulose and carboxyl groups of PBAT. The work is expected to expand the application scope of PBAT and cellulose and provide an attainable solution for a biodegradable substitute for traditional plastics.

Abstract
Inferring potential drug indications plays a vital role in the drug discovery process. It can be time-consuming and costly to discover novel drug indications through biological experiments. Recently, graph learning-based methods have gained popularity for this task. These methods typically treat the prediction task as a binary classification problem, focusing on modeling associations between drugs and diseases within a graph. However, labeled data for drug indication prediction is often limited and expensive to acquire. Contrastive learning addresses this challenge by aligning similar drug-disease pairs and separating dissimilar pairs in the embedding space. Thus, we developed a model called DrIGCL for drug indication prediction, which utilizes graph convolutional networks and contrastive learning. DrIGCL incorporates drug structure, disease comorbidities, and known drug indications to extract representations of drugs and diseases. By combining contrastive and classification losses, DrIGCL predicts drug indications effectively. In multiple runs of hold-out validation experiments, DrIGCL consistently outperformed existing computational methods for drug indication prediction, particularly in terms of top-k. Furthermore, our ablation study has demonstrated a significant improvement in the predictive capabilities of our model when utilizing contrastive learning. Finally, we validated the practical usefulness of DrIGCL by examining the predicted novel indications of Aspirin. The prediction model's code is available at https://github.com/yuxunluo9/DrIGCL.

Abstract
Leukemia is a malignant disease of the hematopoietic system, in which clonal leukemia cells accumulate and inhibit normal hematopoiesis in the bone marrow and other hematopoietic tissues as a result of uncontrolled proliferation and impaired apoptosis, among other mechanisms. In this study, the anti-leukemic effect of a compound (SGP-17-S) extracted from Chloranthus multistachys, a plant with anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anti-tumor effects, was evaluated. The effect of SGP-17-S on the viability of leukemic cell was demonstrated by MTT assay, cell cycle, and apoptosis were assessed by flow cytometry using PI staining and Annexin V/PI double staining. Combinations of network pharmacology and cellular thermal shift assay (CETSA) with western blot were used to validate agents that act on leukemia targets. The results showed that SGP-17-S inhibited the growth of leukemia cells in a time- and dose-dependent manner. SGP-17-S blocked HEL cells in the G2 phase, induced apoptosis, decreased Bcl-2 and caspase-8 protein expression, and increased Bax and caspase-3 expression. In addition, CETSA revealed that PARP1 is an important target gene for the inhibition of HEL cell growth, and SGP-17-S exerted its action on leukemia cells by targeting PARP1. Therefore, this study might provide new solutions and ideas for the treatment of leukemia.

Abstract
Introduction Myopia is causing a major public health concern, with its prevalence increasing globally. This study aimed to discuss posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens (pIOL) research publication trends and hotspots over the past 20 years. Methods Bibliometric analysis was performed using the Web Science Core Collection to investigate posterior-chamber pIOL research publication trends. The extracted records were analyzed, and a knowledge map was built using VOSviewer v.1.6.20. The analysis included visualizing the annual publication count, countries/regions distribution, international and institutional collaborations, author productivity, and journal contribution, in addition to identifying knowledge bases and hotspots. Burst keywords were extracted using CiteSpace v.6.1.R. Results In total, 791 articles on posterior chamber pIOLs published between 2003 and 2023 were retrieved. China had the highest number of publications, whereas Japanese papers received the most citations. Fudan University had the highest number of publications, with articles from Kitasato University having the highest number of citations. Regarding individual research, Xingtao Zhou has published the most significant number of articles, and Shimizu Kimiya had the highest number of citations. The top productive/influential journal was 'Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery'. The top cited references primarily focused on reporting the clinical outcomes of implantable collamer lens (ICL) for individuals with moderate to high myopia. The keywords primarily formed four clusters: posterior chamber pIOL clinical outcomes for myopic astigmatism correction, posterior chamber pIOL implantation complications, ICL size selection and postoperative vault predictions, and postoperative visual quality following posterior chamber pIOL implantation. Conclusion This study presents the first bibliometric analysis of research trends in posterior chamber pIOL over the past two decades. We investigated the current state and emerging trends of global collaboration and research focal points in this field, offering fresh insights and guidance for researchers.

Abstract
The aim of this study is to evaluate the developments in the treatment and prevalence of hypertension by demographic subgroups in least developed area of China in 2012 and 2022. This population-based cross-sectional study was conducted in 2012 and 2022, we applied stratified multistage random sampling to investigate residents aged 18 years or older in Gansu, the least developed province in the northwest of China. Questionnaires and anthropometric measurements were given to all respondents. The standardized prevalence of hypertension in adults in Gansu increased from 26.1% in 2012 to 28.8% in 2022. Compared with 2012, the control rate remains decreased despite the significantly improved awareness and treatment rates of hypertension in 2022. Apart from the reversal of the control rate, the trend of higher prevalence in men and higher awareness and treatment rates in women has not changed. There was an obviously increase in the proportion of participants who had received health education and hypertension management services from medical workers. The treatment was still primarily monotherapy, and there was no significant improvement in the prescription of medication. The prevalence of hypertension has increased mildly in the least developed region of China over the past decade, and the challenge of hypertension management has shifted from increasing awareness and treatment rates to increasing control rates. The onset and control of hypertension are affected by education methods, BMI, local economic conditions and other factors, and targeted strategies can be adopted to strengthen the management of hypertension in economically underdeveloped areas of China.

Abstract
With the increasing prevalence of bone tissue diseases, three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting applied to bone tissue engineering for treatment has received a lot of interests in recent years. The research and popularization of 3D bioprinting in bone tissue engineering require bioinks with good performance, which is closely related to ideal material and appropriate construction form. Hydroxyapatite (HAp) is the inorganic component of natural bone and has been widely used in bone tissue engineering and other fields due to its good biological and physicochemical properties. Previous studies have prepared different bioinks containing HAp and evaluated their properties in various aspects. Most bioinks showed significant improvement in terms of rheology and biocompatibility; however, not all of them had sufficiently favorable mechanical properties and antimicrobial activity. The deficiencies in properties of bioink and 3D bioprinting technology limited the applications of bioinks containing HAp in clinical trials. This review article summarizes the construction forms of bioinks containing HAp and its modifications in previous studies, as well as the 3D bioprinting techniques adopted to print bioink containing HAp. In addition, this article summarizes the advantages and underlying mechanisms of bioink containing HAp, as well as its limitations, and suggests possible improvement to facilitate the development of bone tissue engineering bioinks containing HAp in the future.

Abstract
Developing new drugs is an expensive, time-consuming process that frequently involves safety concerns. By discovering novel uses for previously verified drugs, drug repurposing helps to bypass the time-consuming and costly process of drug development. As the largest family of proteins targeted by verified drugs, G protein-coupled receptors (GPCR) are vital to efficiently repurpose drugs by inferring their associations with drugs. Drug repurposing may be sped up by computational models that predict the strength of novel drug-GPCR pairs interaction. To this end, a number of models have been put forth. In existing methods, however, drug structure, drug-drug interactions, GPCR sequence, and subfamily information couldn't simultaneously be taken into account to detect novel drugs-GPCR relationships. In this study, based on a multi-graph convolutional network, an end-to-end deep model was developed to efficiently and precisely discover latent drug-GPCR relationships by combining data from multi-sources. We demonstrated that our model, based on multi-graph convolutional networks, outperformed rival deep learning techniques as well as non-deep learning models in terms of inferring drug-GPCR relationships. Our results indicated that integrating data from multi-sources can lead to further advancement.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We aimed to explore the effect of particulate matter exposure on renal function in people with HIV/AIDS (PWHA). METHODS A total of 37 739 repeated measurements were conducted on eGFR levels, serum creatinine (Scr), and the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index in 6958 PWHAs. The relationship between 1 and 28 day moving averages of particulate matter concentrations with Scr and eGFR was assessed using linear mixed-effects models. Modified Poisson regression models were employed to assess the associations of cumulative particulate matter exposure with the incidence of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Mediation analyses were used to examine the role of TyG index. RESULTS Short-term exposure to particulate matter was related to reduced renal function. The strongest associations between exposure to particulate matter (PM) 1 , PM 2.5 , and PM 10 and percentage changes in eGFR were observed at 7-day moving average exposure windows, with a respective decrease of 0.697% (-1.008%, -0.386%), 0.429% (-0.637%, -0.220%), and 0.373% (-0.581%, -0.164%) per IQR increment. Long-term exposure to PM 1 , PM 2.5 , and PM 10 was positively linked with the incidence of CKD, with each IQR increment corresponding to fully adjusted RRs (95% CIs) of 1.631 (1.446-1.839), 1.599 (1.431-1.787), and 1.903 (1.665-2.175), respectively. TyG index-mediated 8.87, 8.88, and 7.58% of the relationship between cumulative exposure to PM 1 , PM 2.5 , and PM 10 and increased risk of CKD, respectively. CONCLUSION Exposure to particulate matter among PWHAs is linked to reduced renal function, potentially contributing to increased CKD incidence, where the TyG index might serve as a partial mediator.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & AIMS Our retrospective study has suggested encouraging outcomes of lenvatinib combined with PD-1 inhibitor and transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) on advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This phase II trial was conducted to prospectively investigate the efficacy and safety of lenvatinib, sintilimab (a PD-1 inhibitor) plus TACE (Len-Sin-TACE) in patients with advanced stage HCC. METHODS This was a single-arm phase II trial. Patients with BCLC stage C HCC were recruited. They received lenvatinib (bodyweight ≥60 kg, 12 mg; bodyweight <60 kg, 8 mg) orally once daily, sintilimab (200 mg) intravenously once every 3 weeks, and on demand TACE. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS) per mRECIST. RESULTS Thirty patients were enrolled. The primary endpoint was met with a median PFS of 8.0 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 6.1-9.8) months per mRECIST, which was the same as that per RECIST 1.1. The objective response rate was 60.0% per mRECIST and 30.0% per RECIST 1.1. The disease control rate was 86.7% per mRECIST/RECIST 1.1. The median duration of response was 7.4 (95% CI: 6.6-8.2) months per mRECIST (n = 18) and 4.3 (95% CI: 4.0-4.6) months per RECIST 1.1 (n = 9). The median overall survival was 18.4 (95% CI: 14.5-22.3) months. Treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs) occurred in 28 patients (93.3%) and grade 3 TRAEs were observed in 12 patients (40.0%). There were no grade 4/5 TRAEs. CONCLUSIONS Len-Sin-TACE showed promising antitumour activities with a manageable safety profile in patients with advanced stage HCC. The preliminary results need to be further evaluated with phase III randomized trials.

Abstract
The indigenous microbial milieu within tumorous tissues exerts a pivotal influence on the genesis and advancement of gastric cancer (GC). This investigation scrutinizes the functions and molecular mechanisms attributed to Prevotella intermedia in the malignant evolution of GC. Isolation of P. intermedia from paired GC tissues was undertaken. Quantification of P. intermedia abundance in 102 tissues was accomplished using quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). Assessment of the biological effects of P. intermedia on GC cells was observed using culture medium supernatant. Furthermore, the protein profile of GC cells treated with tumor-derived P. intermedia was examined through label-free protein analysis. The functionality of perilipin 3 (PLIN3) was subsequently confirmed using shRNA. Our investigation revealed that the relative abundance of P. intermedia in tumor tissues significantly surpassed that of corresponding healthy tissues. The abundance of P. intermedia exhibited correlations with tumor differentiation (p = 0.006), perineural invasion (p = 0.004), omentum majus invasion (p = 0.040), and the survival duration of GC patients (p = 0.042). The supernatant derived from tumor-associated P. intermedia bolstered the proliferation, clone formation, migration, and invasion of GC cells. After indirect co-cultivation with tumor-derived P. intermedia, dysregulation of 34 proteins, including PLIN3, was discerned in GC cells. Knockdown of PLIN3 mitigated the malignancy instigated by P. intermedia in GC cells. Our findings posit that P. intermedia from the tumor microenvironment plays a substantial role in the malignant progression of GC via the modulation of PLIN3 expression. Moreover, the relative abundance of P. intermedia might serve as a potential biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of GC.

Abstract
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is a malignant tumor that occurs in the epithelium and mucosal glands of the nasopharynx, and its pathological type is mostly poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. Since the nasopharynx is located deep in the head and neck, early diagnosis and timely treatment are critical to patient survival. However, nasopharyngeal carcinoma tumors are small in size and vary widely in shape, and it is also a challenge for experienced doctors to delineate tumor contours. In addition, due to the special location of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, complex treatments such as radiotherapy or surgical resection are often required, so accurate pathological diagnosis is also very important for the selection of treatment options. However, the current deep learning segmentation model faces the problems of inaccurate segmentation and unstable segmentation process, which are mainly limited by the accuracy of data sets, fuzzy boundaries, and complex lines. In order to solve these two challenges, this article proposes a hybrid model WET-UNet based on the UNet network as a powerful alternative for nasopharyngeal cancer image segmentation. On the one hand, wavelet transform is integrated into UNet to enhance the lesion boundary information by using low-frequency components to adjust the encoder at low frequencies and optimize the subsequent computational process of the Transformer to improve the accuracy and robustness of image segmentation. On the other hand, the attention mechanism retains the most valuable pixels in the image for us, captures the remote dependencies, and enables the network to learn more representative features to improve the recognition ability of the model. Comparative experiments show that our network structure outperforms other models for nasopharyngeal cancer image segmentation, and we demonstrate the effectiveness of adding two modules to help tumor segmentation. The total data set of this article is 5000, and the ratio of training and verification is 8:2. In the experiment, accuracy = 85.2% and precision = 84.9% can show that our proposed model has good performance in nasopharyngeal cancer image segmentation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP). However, the involvement of small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) in EMT and their contributions to CRSwNP has not been extensively investigated. METHODS SEVs were isolated from nasal mucosa through ultracentrifugation. MicroRNA sequencing and reverse-transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction were employed to analyze the differential expression of microRNAs carried by sEVs. Human nasal epithelial cells (hNECs) were used to assess the EMT-inducing effect of sEVs/microRNAs. EMT-associated markers were detected by western blotting and immunofluorescence. Dual-luciferase reporter assay was performed to determine the target gene of miR-375-3p. MicroRNA mimic, lentiviral, and plasmid transduction were used for functional experiments. RESULTS In line with the greater EMT status in eosinophilic CRSwNP (ENP), sEVs derived from ENP (ENP-sEVs) could induce EMT in hNECs. MiR-375-3p was elevated in ENP-sEVs compared to that in control and nonENP. MiR-375- 3p carried by ENP-sEVs facilitated EMT by directly targeting KH domain containing RNA binding (QKI) at seed sequences of 913-919, 1025-1033, and 2438-2444 in 3'-untranslated region. Inhibition of QKI by miR-375-3p overexpression promoted EMT, which could be reversed by restoration of QKI. Furthermore, the abundance of miR-375-3p in sEVs was closely correlated with the clinical symptom score and disease severity. CONCLUSIONS MiR-375-3p-enriched sEVs facilitated EMT by suppressing QKI in hNECs. The association of miR-375-3p with disease severity underscores its potential as both a diagnostic marker and a therapeutic target for the innovative management of CRSwNP.

Abstract
To enhance the processing suitability of blended flours, this study used 4 kGy E-beam irradiated (EBI) sorghum flour in different ratios blended with wheat flour and further verified the improvement mechanism of the processed products under the optimal ratios. The results suggested that the EBI can mitigate the deterioration of the blend flour farinograph properties while enhancing the gas release during dough fermentation. Under the same addition ratio, the irradiated blend flours showed higher expansion height, gas release, cavitation time, and gas retention coefficient than the control flours. Also, irradiated blend flours retained a gluten network at a higher addition rate (20 %). Moreover, the irradiated blend flours were optimized at 10 % as its pasting and thermal properties were improved. Notably, this ameliorating effect promotes a decrease in hardness and chewiness and an increase in cohesion of the bread cores, presenting better textural attributes and delaying the aging rate during storage. The findings are instructive for applying EBI technology in the manufacture and quality improvement of mixed grain breads and open a new research avenue for processing sorghum staple foods.

Abstract
To investigate the effect of E-beam irradiation (EBI) on acid-hydrolyzed starch, sorghum starch was pretreated with EBI (2, 4, and 8 kGy) and further hydrolyzed using hydrochloric acid (1 % and 6 % concentrations) in this study. EBI intensified acid hydrolysis corrosion on starch granule surfaces without inducing changes in the growth ring, FT-IR spectra, and crystal type (A-type). Also, EBI promoted starch degradation by acid hydrolysis, as evidenced by the R1047/1022 loss (1.071 to 1.027), the molecular weight decrease, and the chain length distribution shift (toward short A-chain). Moreover, this synergistic modification induced a starch enthalpy decrease (only 9.49 J/g) and crystallinity reduction (29.87 %), while solubility increase (34.27 %) and swelling power inhibition (only 7.65 g/g) were observed. Notably, starch digestibility was improved after synergistic modification. The obtained results broaden the processing depth of EBI in modified starch and highlight the promising application of acidolysis sorghum starch as a potential industrial starch.

Abstract
The effect of hydrogen content on the deformation and fracture behavior of 27Cr-4Mo-2Ni super ferritic stainless steel (SFSS) was investigated in this study. It was shown that the plasticity and yield strength of SFSS were very susceptible to hydrogen content. The introduction of hydrogen led to a significant decrease in elongation and a concurrent increase in yield strength. Nevertheless, a critical threshold was identified in the elongation reduction, after which the elongation remained approximately constant even with more hydrogen introduced, while the yield strength exhibited a monotonic increase with increasing hydrogen content within the experimental range, attributed to the pinning effect of the hydrogen Cottrell atmosphere on dislocations. Furthermore, the hydrogen-charged SFSS shows an apparent drop in flow stress after upper yielding and a reduced work hardening rate during the subsequent plastic deformation. The more hydrogen is charged, the more the flow stress drops, and the lower the work hardening rate becomes.

Abstract
In the last decade, prophages that possess the ability of lysogenic transformation have become increasingly significant. Their transfer and subsequent activity in the host have a significant impact on the evolution of bacteria. Here, we investigate the role of prophage phi456 with high spontaneous induction in the bacterial genome of Avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) DE456. The phage particles, phi456, that were released from DE456 were isolated, purified, and sequenced. Additionally, phage particles were no longer observed either during normal growth or induced by nalidixic acid in DE456Δphi456. This indicated that the released phage particles from DE456 were only phi456. We demonstrated that phi456 contributed to biofilm formation through spontaneous induction of the accompanying increase in the eDNA content. The survival ability of DE456Δphi456 was decreased in avian macrophage HD11 under oxidative stress and acidic conditions. This is likely due to a decrease in the transcription levels of three crucial genes-rpoS, katE, and oxyR-which are needed to help the bacteria adapt to and survive in adverse environments. It has been observed through animal experiments that the presence of phi456 in the DE456 genome enhances colonization ability in vivo. Additionally, the number of type I fimbriae in DE456Δphi456 was observed to be reduced under transmission electron microscopy when compared to the wild-type strain. The qRT-PCR results indicated that the expression levels of the subunit of I fimbriae (fimA) and its apical adhesin (fimH) were significantly lower in DE456Δphi456. Therefore, it can be concluded that phi456 plays a crucial role in helping bacterial hosts survive in unfavorable conditions and enhancing the colonization ability in DE456.

Abstract
This study prepared starch with different degrees of gelatinization (10 % and 30 %) by CaCl2, and further combined with citric acid at different concentrations (10 %, 20 %, and 30 %) for esterification. The results indicated that CaCl2 induced surface gelatinization and the esterification promoted its fragmentation. This synergistic modification induced depolymerization of starch chains and a decrease in molecular weight, although starch's Maltese cross, growth rings, and crystal type remained unchanged. Moreover, the synergistic modification induces a short-range ordered structure loss and the enthalpy decrease of starch, which induce starch pasting properties decrease and solubility increase. Furthermore, the introduction of ester groups by esterification increases the resistant starch content by limiting the binding sites for digestive enzymes. In conclusion, surface gelatinization can increase active reaction sites by disrupting the starch shell structure, and serves as a potential pretreatment to enhance the deep application of esterified starch in food and pharmaceutical fields.

Abstract
Mounting evidence shows that bisphenol A (BPA) is associated with metabolic risk factors. The aim of this study was to review related epidemiologic studies and conduct a meta-analysis to quantitatively estimate the association between BPA and metabolic syndrome. Four electronic databases were systematically searched to identify suitable articles. A total of 47 published studies were finally included. Two studies involved metabolic syndrome. Of the 17, 17, 14, and 13 studies on the relationship between BPA with abdominal obesity, blood pressure, fasting plasma glucose, and dyslipidemia, 10, 6, 3, and 4 studies were included in the meta-analysis, respectively. The results showed that the risk of abdominal obesity increased with the increase of BPA exposure, especially in the group with higher BPA exposure levels (Quartile 2 vs. Quartile 1, pooled OR = 1.16, 95%CI: 1.01, 1.33; Q3 vs. Q1 , pooled OR = 1.31, 95%CI: 1.13, 1.51; Q4 vs. Q1 , pooled OR = 1.40, 95%CI: 1.21, 1.61). However, there was no significant correlation between BPA exposure and metabolic syndrome components including hypertension, abnormal fasting plasma glucose, and dyslipidemia. The present study found that BPA exposure is significantly associated with a higher risk of abdominal obesity. However, the relationship between BPA with metabolic syndrome and its other components needs further longitudinal studies to verify.

Abstract
Recently, innate immunity and inflammation were recognized as the key factors for acute kidney injury (AKI) caused by sepsis, which is closely related to high mortality. Stimulator of interferon genes (STING) has emerged as a critical component of innate immune and inflammatory responses. However, the role of STING in the pathogenesis of septic AKI remains unclear. This study demonstrated that the STING was significantly activated in tubular cells induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in vivo and in vitro. Tubule-specific STING knockout attenuated LPS-induced renal dysfunction and pathological changes. Mechanistically, the STING pathway promotes NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) activation. STING triggers endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress to induce mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (mtROS) overproduction, enhancing thioredoxin-interacting protein activation and association with NLRP3. Eventually, the NLRP3 inflammasome leads to tubular cell inflammation and pyroptosis. This study revealed the STING-regulated network and further identified the STING/ER stress/mtROS/NLRP3 inflammasome axis as an emerging pathway contributing to tubular damage in LPS-induced AKI. Hence, targeting STING may be a promising therapeutic strategy for preventing septic AKI.

Abstract
This article focuses on the cascading failure problem and node importance evaluation method in complex networks. To address the issue of identifying important nodes in dynamic networks, the method used in static networks is introduced and the necessity of re-evaluating node status during node removal is proposed. Studies have found that the methods for identifying dynamic and static network nodes are two different directions, and most literature only uses dynamic methods to verify static methods. Therefore, it is necessary to find suitable node evaluation methods for dynamic networks. Based on this, this article proposes a method that integrates local and global correlation properties. In terms of global features, we introduce an improved k-shell method with fusion degree to improve the resolution of node ranking. In terms of local features, we introduce Solton factor and structure hole factor improved by INCC (improved network constraint coefficient), which effectively improves the algorithm's ability to identify the relationship between adjacent nodes. Through comparison with existing methods, it is found that the KPDN-INCC method proposed in this paper complements the KPDN method and can accurately identify important nodes, thereby helping to quickly disintegrate the network. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method in identifying important nodes in a small-world network with a random parameter less than 0.4 was verified through artificial network experiments.

Abstract
Transcatheter arterial embolization plays a pivotal role in treating various diseases. However, the efficacy of embolization therapy in cancer treatment can be limited by several factors, such as inevitable incomplete or non-target embolization, and the tumor recurrence and metastasis caused by the hypoxic microenvironment. Moreover, it is essential to explore simpler, more economical, and efficient methods for microsphere synthesis. Herein, we achieved one-step photocatalytic synthesis of lipiodol-doped Fe3O4@Poly (diallyliso-phthalate) multifunctional microspheres (IFeD MS) for arterial embolization, chemotherapy, and imaging. The prepared microspheres are in the shape of dried plums, with a particle size of 100-300 μm. Lipiodol demonstrates a certain degree of chemotherapeutic activity, and the incorporation of Fe3O4enables the microspheres to exhibit magnetothermal response and magnetic resonance imaging capabilities. Furthermore, the radiopaque characteristics of both agents provide the microspheres with promising potential for computed tomography and digital radiography imaging. The renal embolization experiment in rabbits demonstrated that IFeD MS achieved significant embolization and chemotherapeutic effects. Biocompatibility experiments revealed that this embolic agent did not induce tissue damage or inflammation beyond the treatment area. Additionally, IFeD MS exhibited promising imaging potential. The results of this study imply that the developed multifunctional embolic agent IFeD MS may have significant potential in transforming tumors previously only suitable for palliative cares into resectable radical treatments.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The ancient Chinese herb Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge (Danshen), plays the important role in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease. Furthermore, Danshen could also be used for curing carcinogenesis. Up to now, the anti-tumor effects of the main active constituents of Danshen have made great progress. However, the bioavailability of the active constituents of Danshen were restricted by their unique physical characteristics, like low oral bioavailability, rapid degradation in vivo and so on. PURPOSE With the leap development of nano-delivery systems, the shortcomings of the active constituents of Danshen have been greatly ameliorated. This review tried to summarize the recent progress of the active constituents of Danshen based delivery systems used for anti-tumor therapeutics. METHODS A systematic literature search was conducted using 5 databases (Embase, Google scholar, PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science databases) for the identification of relevant data published before September 2023. The words "Danshen", "Salvia miltiorrhiza", "Tanshinone", "Salvianolic acid", "Rosmarinic acid", "tumor", "delivery", "nanomedicine" and other active ingredients contained in Danshen were searched in the above databases to gather information about pharmaceutical decoration for the active constituents of Danshen used for anti-tumor therapeutics. RESULTS The main extracts of Danshen could inhibit the proliferation of tumor cells effectively and a great deal of studies were conducted to design drug delivery systems to ameliorate the anti-tumor effect of the active contents of Danshen through different ways, like improving bioavailability, increasing tumor targeting ability, enhancing biological barrier permeability and co-delivering with other active agents. CONCLUSION This review systematically represented recent progress of pharmaceutical decorations for the active constituents of Danshen used for anti-tumor therapeutics, revealing the diversity of nano-decoration skills and trying to inspire more designs of Danshen based nanodelivery systems, with the hope that bringing the nanomedicine of the active constituents of Danshen for anti-tumor therapeutics from bench to bedside in the near future.

Abstract
Dazomet is a dry powder formulation that releases toxic gas containing methyl isothiocyanate, which controls soil-borne pests and weeds, improving crop yields when applied to moist soils. To explore the efficacy of dazomet fumigation in the cultivation of the perennial herb Codonopsis pilosula, four typical cultivars (G1, G2, W1 and TCK) in Gansu Province were selected for seedling cultivation after soil fumigation (F) by dazomet, and non-fumigated soil was used as a control (CK). The experiments took 2 years to complete. The functional diversity of the soil enzymes and microorganisms, seedling emergence and physiological characteristics, and the quality and yield of Codonopsis seedlings and Radix were assessed. The results showed that the seed emergence rate, seedling re-green rate and several antioxidant enzymatic activities improved in the treatments involving soil fumigation with dazomet, and membrane lipid peroxidation in the seedlings decreased. On average, compared with those of the respective controls, the root viability and yield of the seedlings of the tested cultivars also increased by 34.87% and 42.4%, respectively, and the incidence of root rot in the seedlings was reduced by 83.9%, compared with their respective controls. After harvest, the yield increased by 23.9%, the incidence of root rot decreased by 61.3%, increase in yield and a 61.3% reduction in incidence, and the medicinal materials were determined to be safe and residue-free. The effects of fumigation were cultivar-specific and were especially prominent in G2. Therefore, soil fumigation with dazomet could improve the quality and productivity of Codonopsis pilosula seedlings. Taken together, these findings suggest that when herbs are bred by seedling transplantation, especially cultivars of good quality but poor resistance or species with rare germplasm resources, soil fumigation provides a way to improve cultivation effectiveness and, more importantly, ensures the probability of successfully breeding the species.

Abstract
To reveal the influence of wheat starch particle size distribution on frozen dough quality, this study reconstituted A/B starch according to 100:0, 75:25, 50:50, 25:75 and 0:100 and prepared reconstituted dough by compounding with gluten proteins. Further, the freeze-thaw cycle of 1, 3, and 9 times for reconstituted dough was performed to investigate its ratio-regulatory role of A- and B-starch. The results showed that the freeze-thaw cycle induced gluten network breakage and starch granule exposure in doughs mainly by disrupting disulfide and hydrogen bonds between gluten protein molecules and upsetting their secondary structures, leading to a reduction in GMP and polymer protein content and an increase in freezing water content. Moreover, a moderate increase (25-50 %) in the B-starch proportion can minimize gluten protein deterioration by freeze-thaw cycles. However, excessive B-starch amounts (75-100 %) can also adversely affect gluten structure. The prepared dumpling wrappers under the 50A-50B ratio showed optimal steaming loss rate, hardness, and chewiness during the freeze-thaw cycle. Correlation analysis indicated that the B-starch ratio and its filling pattern improved dough freeze-thaw deterioration primarily by affecting dough-free sulfhydryl content, protein molecular weight distribution, secondary structure, and ΔH. The results may provide insights and guidelines for product development and storage for frozen pasta.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Multi-label Chest X-ray (CXR) images often contain rich label relationship information, which is beneficial to improve classification performance. However, because of the intricate relationships among labels, most existing works fail to effectively learn and make full use of the label correlations, resulting in limited classification performance. In this study, we propose a multi-label learning framework that learns and leverages the label correlations to improve multi-label CXR image classification. METHODS In this paper, we capture the global label correlations through the self-attention mechanism. Meanwhile, to better utilize label correlations for guiding feature learning, we decompose the image-level features into label-level features. Furthermore, we enhance label-level feature learning in an end-to-end manner by a consistency constraint between global and local label correlations, and a label correlation guided multi-label supervised contrastive loss. RESULTS To demonstrate the superior performance of our proposed approach, we conduct three times 5-fold cross-validation experiments on the CheXpert dataset. Our approach obtains an average F1 score of 44.6% and an AUC of 76.5%, achieving a 7.7% and 1.3% improvement compared to the state-of-the-art results. CONCLUSION More accurate label correlations and full utilization of the learned label correlations help learn more discriminative label-level features. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach achieves exceptionally competitive performance compared to the state-of-the-art algorithms.

Abstract
The mechanical properties of various Ti-6Al-4V alloys are influenced by their respective microstructures. This study generated an ultrafine-grain (UFG) Ti-6Al-4V alloy featuring bimodal grain distribution characteristics achieved through initial heat treatment, multi-axial forging (MF), and annealing. The study also extensively examined the evolution process of the alloy's microstructure. By subjecting the materials to heat treatments at 900 °C with air cooling and 950 °C with air cooling, both materials were found to be consisted of primary α (αp) and transformed β (αs+β) regions with different proportions. Following MF, the sample treated at 900 °C displays a microstructure featuring UFGs of α+β surrounding larger micron-sized αp grains. On the other hand, the sample treated at 950 °C displays a microstructure distinguished by twisted αs lamellar and fragmented β grains surrounding larger micron-sized αp grains. Following annealing, no significant grain growth was observed in the sample. The geometrically necessary dislocations (GNDs) within the UFGs were eliminated, though some GNDs persisted within the αp grains. The samples undergoing the 900 °C heat treatment, MF, and subsequent annealing exhibited elevated strength (1280 MPa) and total elongation (10.7%). This investigation introduces a novel method for designing the microstructure of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy to achieve superior performance.

Abstract
Cisplatin nephrotoxicity is a critical limitation of solid cancer treatment. Until now, the complex interplay of various pathophysiological mechanisms leading to proximal tubular cell apoptosis after cisplatin exposure has not been fully understood. In our study, we assessed the role of the autophagy-related protein BECLIN1 (ATG6) in cisplatin-induced acute renal injury (AKI)-a candidate protein involved in autophagy and with putative impact on apoptosis by harboring a B-cell lymphoma 2 (BCL2) interaction site of unknown significance. By using mice with heterozygous deletion of Becn1, we demonstrate that reduced intracellular content of BECLIN1 does not impact renal function or autophagy within 12 months. However, these mice were significantly sensitized towards cisplatin-induced AKI, and by using Becn1+/-;Sglt2-Cre;Tomato/EGFP mice with subsequent primary cell analysis, we confirmed that nephrotoxicity depends on proximal tubular BECLIN1 content. Mechanistically, BECLIN1 did not impact autophagy or primarily the apoptotic pathway. In fact, a lack of BECLIN1 sensitized mice towards cisplatin-induced ER stress. Accordingly, the ER stress inhibitor tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA) blunted cisplatin-induced cell death in Becn1 heterozygosity. In conclusion, our data first highlight a novel role of BECLIN1 in protecting against cellular ER stress independent from autophagy. These novel findings open new therapeutic avenues to intervene in this important intracellular stress response pathway with a promising impact on future AKI management.

Abstract
The 2019 zoonotic pandemic (COVID-19), has led to a massive global lockdown that provides a good opportunity to study how wildlife responds to changes in human activity. Wearing a mask after the COVID-19 outbreak was widely used to prevent the spread of the causative pathogen. It has been shown that tree sparrows (Passer montanus) at two sites in south China exhibit reduced fear responses to people with face masks after a period of heavy exposure to them, whereas European studies showed the opposite, with no changes in the behaviour of the birds towards mask wearers in either rural or urban areas. To further study this, from October 2021 to January 2022, we conducted a flight initiation distance (FID) survey in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Xi'an, China for a variety of field bird species by comparing the FID for researchers wearing masks to that for researchers not wearing masks to assess whether wearing masks in public places caused birds to adjust their flight response. Results from the three Asian countries showed that after a period of sustained contact with people wearing masks, in both rural and urban areas, birds were significantly more adapted to them and had a shorter FID to people wearing masks. We suggest that the rapid habituation of birds to people wearing masks with a reduced fear response could have some fitness advantage, allowing them to adapt rapidly to the new environmental conditions induced by COVID-19.

Abstract
Background The COVID-19 pandemic has decreased physical activity (PA) while increasing demand for electronic health resources. eHealth literacy (EHL) is expected to aid eHealth use and health promotion. EHL was raised on the grounds of health literacy (HL). This study explored the associations among EHL, HL, and PA in Chinese college students and identified mediating mechanisms in the EHL/HL-PA relationship. Methods An integrated social-cognitive model was proposed. A total of 947 Chinese college students (52.8% women, age = 19.87 ± 1.68 years) completed the three-wave data collection. Path analysis was performed. Results An adequate good-to-fit model was indicated. Perceived EHL (PEHL) was significantly associated with perceived HL (PHL) and HL performance (HLP); PHL was negatively related to HLP; PEHL was significantly associated with self-efficacy (SE) and social support (SS); PHL had a significant effect on SS but not SE; HLP significantly affected SS but not SE; SS and SE positively predicted intention (INT), which then predicted PA. SS mediated PEHL/PHL-INT links; SE mediated the PEHL-INT link; SS and INT jointly mediated PEHL/PHL/HLP-PA; SE and INT jointly mediated PEHL-PA. Conclusion Relationships among EHL, HL, and PA were explored with multiple mediating mechanisms identified. Differential SE and SS roles in EHL/HL-PA links suggest new mechanisms to inform EHL/HL intervention development.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Older patients with cancer experience cognitive impairment and a series of neurocognitive symptoms known as chemobrain due to chemotherapy. Moreover, older populations are disproportionately affected by chemobrain and heightened negative mental health outcomes after cytotoxic chemical drug therapy. Chinese acupuncture is an emerging therapeutic option for chemotherapy-induced cognitive impairment in older patients with cancer, despite limited supporting evidence. OBJECTIVE Our study aims to directly contribute to the existing knowledge of this novel Chinese medicine mode in older patients with cancer enrolled at the Department of Oncology/Chinese Medicine, Nanjing First Hospital, China, thereby establishing the basis for further research. METHODS This study involves a 2-arm, prospective, randomized, assessor-blinded clinical trial in older patients with cancer experiencing chemobrain-related stress and treated with Chinese acupuncture from September 30, 2023, to December 31, 2025. We will enroll 168 older patients with cancer with clinically confirmed chemobrain. These participants will be recruited through screening by oncologists for Chinese acupuncture therapy and evaluation. Electroacupuncture will be performed by a registered practitioner of Chinese medicine. The electroacupuncture intervention will take about 30 minutes every session (2 sessions per week over 8 weeks). For the experimental group, the acupuncture points are mainly on the head, limbs, and abdomen, with a total of 6 pairs of electrically charged needles on the head, while for the control group, the acupuncture points are mainly on the head and limbs, with only 1 pair of electrically charged needles on the head. RESULTS Eligible participants will be randomized to the control group or the experimental group in 1:1 ratio. The primary outcome of this intervention will be the scores of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. The secondary outcomes, that is, attentional function and working memory will be determined by the Digit Span Test scores. The quality of life of the patients and multiple functional assessments will also be evaluated. These outcomes will be measured at 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks after the randomization. CONCLUSIONS This efficacy trial will explore whether Chinese electroacupuncture can prevent chemobrain, alleviate the related symptoms, and improve the quality of life of older patients with cancer who are undergoing or are just going to begin chemotherapy. The safety of this electroacupuncture intervention for such patients will also be evaluated. Data from this study will be used to promote electroacupuncture application in patients undergoing chemotherapy and support the design of further real-world studies. Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aims to evaluate and analyze the standard diagnostic methods for mild cognitive impairment (MCI). METHODS This study used a prospective case-control study to examine baseline data and diagnostic indicators in a population of elderly with MCI. Based on different cognitive abilities, this study divided MCI and healthy control groups. The diagnostic indicators included CDT, MOCA, MMSE, PSQI, MBI, DST, HAMD, AD-related blood markers, and olfactory testing. The diagnostic value of each indicator was done using the ROC curve. RESULTS This study included 240 adult participants, 135 in the health group and 105 in the MCI group. A comparison of baseline data revealed statistically significant differences between the two groups regarding age, blood glucose, MMSE, CTD, MOCA, ability to perform daily living, AD-related blood indices and olfactory tests (all p < 0.05). Logistic regression analysis statistically showed that age, MOCA, and CDT were independent diagnostic factors for MCI (all p < 0.05). Combining these three indicators has the best diagnostic specificity (92.54%). AD-related blood and olfactory tests indices had only moderate diagnostic values (AUC: 0.7-0.8). CONCLUSION Age, MOCA, and CDT are good indicators for diagnosing early-stage MCI. AD-related blood indices and olfactory tests can serve as valuable adjuncts in diagnosing MCI.

Abstract
To reduce the use of petroleum-based plastics and explore multifunctional plastics, this study was conducted to prepare ternary composite plastics by doping Pickering emulsions containing Alpinia galanga essential oil into a polymer network consisting of poly(vinyl alcohol)-acetylated pullulan polysaccharides. Scanning electron microscopy results showed that although incompatible components were present in the composite plastic, compatibility improved with the addition of pullulan polysaccharides, resulting in smooth surfaces and cross-sections, which was consistent with the observation of continuous dark zones and low relative roughness (Ra = 5.51) in Atomic force microscopy. Further, Fourier transform spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction characterization revealed that the composite plastic disrupted the molecular and crystalline structures of the pure PVA, causing the stretching vibration of -OH and the decrease of relative crystallinity. Moreover, this plastic performed optimally at a PVA to pullulan polysaccharide ratio of 75:25, exhibiting good thermal (13.12 J/g) and mechanical properties, low water absorption (70.71 %) and water vapor transmission (1.80 × 10-3 g/m2 s), as well as excellent degradability. In addition, Alpinia galanga essential oil components in the composite plastic provided favorable antioxidant scavenging of DPPH and ABTS and inhibitory effects against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Chicken meat packaging revealed that the plastic maintained sensory parameters such as pH and color by inhibiting the oxidation of proteins and lipids during shelf-life. The findings provide insights into developing innovative, green, multifunctional packaging and broaden the in-depth application of Alpinia galanga essential oil.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gut probiotic depletion is associated with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease-associated hepatocellular carcinoma (NAFLD-HCC). Here, we investigated the prophylactic potential of Lactobacillus acidophilus against NAFLD-HCC. METHODS NAFLD-HCC conventional and germ-free mice were established by diethylnitrosamine (DEN) injection with feeding of high-fat high-cholesterol (HFHC) or choline-deficient high-fat (CDHF) diet. Orthotopic NAFLD-HCC allografts were established by intrahepatic injection of murine HCC cells with HFHC feeding. Metabolomic profiling was performed using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Biological functions of L. acidophilus conditional medium (L.a CM) and metabolites were determined in NAFLD-HCC human cells and mouse organoids. FINDINGS L. acidophilus supplementation suppressed NAFLD-HCC formation in HFHC-fed DEN-treated mice. This was confirmed in orthotopic allografts and germ-free tumourigenesis mice. L.a CM inhibited the growth of NAFLD-HCC human cells and mouse organoids. The protective function of L. acidophilus was attributed to its non-protein small molecules. By metabolomic profiling, valeric acid was the top enriched metabolite in L.a CM and its upregulation was verified in liver and portal vein of L. acidophilus-treated mice. The protective function of valeric acid was demonstrated in NAFLD-HCC human cells and mouse organoids. Valeric acid significantly suppressed NAFLD-HCC formation in HFHC-fed DEN-treated mice, accompanied by improved intestinal barrier integrity. This was confirmed in another NAFLD-HCC mouse model induced by CDHF diet and DEN. Mechanistically, valeric acid bound to hepatocytic surface receptor GPR41/43 to inhibit Rho-GTPase pathway, thereby ablating NAFLD-HCC. INTERPRETATION L. acidophilus exhibits anti-tumourigenic effect in mice by secreting valeric acid. Probiotic supplementation is a potential prophylactic of NAFLD-HCC. Abstract
With the increase in haze pollution in Chinese cities, answering the question of whether using a high-speed rail (HSR) as a green and efficient transportation system can alleviate haze pollution in China has become a research hotspot. This study empirically tests the impact of HSR network construction on haze pollution and its spatial spillover effects. (1) The construction of a HSR would have a mitigation effect on haze pollution in node cities and surrounding cities, and the more developed the HSR is, the more significant that this effect would be. (2) Haze pollution persists for a long time, the haze pollution from the previous year may have a positive promoting effect on the haze pollution in the following year. (3) The use of a HSR reduces haze pollution by replacing traditional road transportation and promoting industrial structure upgrading and technological innovation. (4) The inhibitory effect of HSR use on haze pollution varies due to regional differences and variation in city size.

Abstract
Egg recognition and rejection are the most common and effective anti-parasitic strategies against avian brood parasitism in terms of maintaining stability over time and plasticity in response to environmental cues. Conversely, parasites have evolved multiple counter-adaptations to the anti-parasitic defenses of hosts. Among them, the crypsis hypothesis suggests that eggs that appear more cryptic in color and are closely matched to the environment are helping to counter the egg recognition strategy of the host. In this study, we investigated whether the egg recognition ability of Oriental reed warblers (Acrocephalus orientalis), a common host of common cuckoos (Cuculus canorus), changed during different reproductive stages by using model egg experiments. The effect of the crypsis hypothesis on the egg recognition ability of the hosts was also investigated by controlling the color contrast between the inside of the experimental nests and the model eggs. The results showed that the Oriental reed warbler retained strong egg recognition abilities, which were similar to the incubation stage (GLMMs: F 1,27 = 0.424, p = .521), even after entering the nestling stage and preferentially rejected model eggs with distinct contrasting colors (binomial test: Fisher's exact, p = .016). These results are consistent with the crypsis hypothesis. The present study suggests that the host retains a strong egg recognition ability even during the nestling stage and that cryptic-colored eggs that are closely matched with the breeding nest environment help counter the host's egg recognition abilities and increase the chances of successful parasitism by cuckoos. However, the effectiveness of cryptic egg may be weaker than mimic egg in countering egg recognition and rejection by hosts with open-cup nests.

Abstract
The complications of type 2 diabetes are a major global public health problem with high incidence and mortality, affecting almost all individuals with diabetes worldwide. Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is one such primary complication and has become a leading cause of end-stage renal disease in patients with diabetes. Progression from diabetes to DKD is a complex process typically involving multiple mechanisms. Recent remarkable clinical benefits of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors in diabetes and DKD highlight the critical impact of renal ion homeostasis on disease progression. This review comprehensively examines the impact of ion homeostasis on the transition from diabetes to DKD, outlining possible therapeutic interventions and addressing the ongoing challenges in this rapidly developing field.

Abstract
Introduction Perirenal fat is a pad that fills the retroperitoneal space outside the kidney, which affects kidney function in various ways. However, the association between perirenal fat and IgA nephropathy (IgAN) has not yet been elucidated. This study aimed to investigate the role of perirenal fat in predicting IgAN progression. Methods A total of 473 patients with biopsy-proven IgAN and follow-up information were recruited, and perirenal fat thickness (PFT) was measured using color Doppler ultrasonography at renal biopsy. Patients were divided into two groups according to the median PFT: the low-PFT group (PFT ≤1.34 cm, n = 239) and the high PFT group (PFT >1.35 cm, n = 234). A total of 473 healthy participants were included in the control group. Basic clinical characteristics were assessed at the time of renal biopsy, and the relationship between PFT and combined endpoints was analyzed. The renal composite endpoints were defined as a two-fold increase in blood creatinine level, end-stage renal disease (dialysis over 3 months). Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was used to explore the role of PFT in the progression of IgAN. Three clinicopathological models of multivariate Cox regression analysis were established to evaluate the association between PFT and renal prognosis in patients with IgAN. Results Compared to healthy subjects, patients with IgAN showed significantly higher PFT. After a median follow-up of 50 months, 75 of 473 patients (15.9%) with IgAN reached renal composite endpoints. Among those, 13 of 239 patients (5.4%) were in the low PFT group, and 62 of 234 patients (26.5%) were in the high PFT group (p < 0.001). The results of three Cox regression models (including demographics, pathological and clinical indicators, and PFT) demonstrated that a higher PFT was significantly associated with a higher risk of reaching renal composite endpoints in patients with IgAN. Conclusion This study indicated a positive relationship between PFT at renal biopsy and renal progression in patients with IgAN, suggesting that perirenal fat might act as a marker of poor prognosis in patients with IgAN.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Palatal displacement of maxillary anterior teeth is common in clinical practice. Previous studies have reported that the labial bone around palatally-displaced incisors is thinner than that around normally-placed teeth. Therefore, it is necessary to elucidate alveolar bone changes after alignment to guide orthodontic treatment. In this study, we investigated the alveolar bone changes around palatally-displaced maxillary lateral incisors before and after treatment, and the effects of extraction and age using cone-beam computed tomography. METHODS In this retrospective study, 55 patients with unilateral palatally-displaced maxillary lateral incisors were included. Three-dimensional alveolar bone changes were measured at three levels (25%, 50% and 75% of the root length) using cone-beam computed tomography. Group comparisons were made between displaced and control teeth, extraction and non-extraction groups, and adult and minor groups. RESULTS After orthodontic treatment, labiopalatal and palatal alveolar bone widths decreased at all measured levels. Labial alveolar bone width increased significantly at P25, but decreased at P75. Concavity decreased, while tooth-axis angle, tooth length, B-CEJ and P-CEJ increased. Changes in LB and LP at P75, B-CEJ and P-CEJ were statistically significant. After treatment, the tooth-axis angle on the PD side increased by 9.46°. The change in tooth-axis angle on the PD side was significantly smaller, and LB and LP decreased more at P75, in the extraction group. CONCLUSIONS Compared to the control teeth, alveolar bone thickness and height for the displaced teeth decreased more significantly after treatment. Tooth extraction and age also influenced alveolar bone changes.
