Abstract
The BG Sentinel-2 (BGS-2) and BG-Pro traps (BGS-2 configuration) were compared for their effectiveness to collect Aedes vectors and related nuisance mosquitoes in north central Florida during 2022. Traps were baited with either dry ice pellets, pressurized carbon dioxide (CO2) gas, or the novel BG yeast-derived CO2 generator. Additionally, each trap was fitted with the BG Sweetscent lure. Sixteen species were collected including Aedes albopictus and Ae. aegypti, which accounted for about 20% of the collections. The BGS-2 collected more mosquitoes compared to the BG-Pro, but the relative percent abundance of each species to total collection from each trap type was similar. Overall mosquito abundance was significantly greater in both trap types baited with dry ice compared with the other CO2 sources. Significantly more Ae. albopictus were collected from BGS-2 traps baited with dry ice than all other CO2 and trap configurations. Lastly, we did not observe any significant differences in Ae. aegypti abundance between trap type or CO2 source.

Abstract
Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) steering is a quantum effect based on quantum entanglement and it is the key resource for building quantum networks because of its useful properties. Based on the criterion for genuine multipartite EPR steering, the genuine quadripartite EPR steering is confirmed and it can be generated by a spontaneous parametric down-conversion cascaded process with two sum-frequency generations in an optical superlattice. This occurs either below the oscillation threshold and without oscillation threshold. The influence of the parameters of cascaded nonlinear process on the quadripartite EPR steering among signal, idler, and two sum-frequency beams are also discussed. Choosing appropriate nonlinear parameters can achieve good quadripartite quantum steering. This scheme of the generation of genuine quadripartite EPR steering has potential applications in quantum communication and computing.

Abstract
Objective: To characterize the prevalence and genomic epidemiology of Vibrio parahaemolyticus from acute diarrheal patients in Shenzhen City from 2013 to 2021. Methods: Based on the Shenzhen Infectious Diarrhea Surveillance System, acute diarrheal patients were actively monitored in sentinel hospitals from 2013 to 2021. Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) of Vibrio parahaemolyticus isolates was performed, and the genomic population structure, serotypes, virulence genes and multilocus sequence typing were analyzed. Outbreak clusters from 2019 to 2021 were explored based on single-nucleotide polymorphism analysis. Results: A total of 48 623 acute diarrhea cases were monitored in 15 sentinel hospitals from 2013 to 2021, and 1 135 Vibrio parahaemolyticus strains were isolated, with a positive isolation rate of 2.3%. Qualified whole-genome sequencing data of 852 isolates were obtained. Eighty-nine serotypes, 21 known ST types and 5 new ST types were identified by sequence analysis, and 93.2% of strains were detected with toxin profile of tdh+trh-. 8 clonal groups (CGs) were captured, with CG3 as the absolute predominance, followed by CG189. The CG3 group was dominated by O3:K6 serotype and ST3 sequence type, while CG189 group was mainly O4:KUT, O4:K8 serotypes and ST189a and ST189 type. A total of 13 clusters were identified, containing 154 cases. About 30 outbreak clusters with 29 outbreak clusters caused by CG3 strains from 2019 to 2021. Conclusion: Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a major pathogen of acute infectious diarrhea in Shenzhen City, with diverse population structures. CG3 and CG189 have been prevalent and predominant in Shenzhen City for a long time. Scattered outbreaks and persistent sources of contamination ignored by traditional methods could be captured by WGS analysis. Tracing the source of epidemic clone groups and taking precise prevention and control measures are expected to significantly reduce the burden of diarrhea diseases caused by Vibrio parahaemolyticus infection in Shenzhen City.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinicopathologic features,diagnosis and prognosis of pericytic tumor of the kidney. Methods: Three cases of pericytic tumor of the kidney (two cases were diagnosed as glomangiomyomas and one case as pericytic tumor,unclassified) were collected from the affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University between January 2014 to May 2021; the clinical and morphologic features, immunohistochemical and molecular characteristics were analyzed and the relevant literature was reviewed. Results: The three patients included one male and two females, with ages ranging from 21 to 70 years. In two patients the tumors were detected incidentally at physical examination and one patient presented with low back discomfort. Imaging showed a rounded nodular soft tissue density shadow in renal parenchyma, and enhancement scan showed uneven delayed enhancement. Grossly, two tumors were located in the renal hilum and one in the renal parenchyma; all were nodular. The tumors were measured in size from 1.6 cm to 5.1 cm (mean 4.1 cm) and showed gray or gray-red cut surface. Histologic examination showed the tumor cells were arranged in solid sheets or small nodules, closely related to vascular wall. Tumor cells were mostly epithelial-like with abundant cytoplasm, light eosinophilia, obscure boundary and round nuclei with visible nucleoli. Vague bundles and fascicular arrangements of smooth muscle component were noted in some areas, with transition of both components. There was no necrosis. By immunohistochemistry, the tumor cells strongly and diffusely expressed vimentin, SMA and collagen Ⅳ, two cases expressed CD34, all three cases expressed PDGFRB to varying extent, and the Ki-67 index was 2%-3%. PCR tests showed absent K-RAS, BRAF V600E gene mutation in all three cases. PDGFRB mutations in exons 3 and 18, respectively were found in two of the three cases by high-throughput sequencing, and no NOTCH 1/2/3 gene fusions were found in any of them. Follow-up information (range: 6-92 months) showed no evidence of local recurrence or distant metastasis in all three patients. Conclusions: Pericytic tumor of the kidney is a rare mesenchymal tumor originating in the kidney with differentiation to smooth muscle, most commonly glomus tumor. The mild pleomorphism, close relationship with vascular wall and spindled smooth muscle components suggest the diagnosis of the tumor. Expression of both epithelial and muscle-associated markers aids the diagnosis. PDGFRB gene mutations may have an important role in the development of this tumor. Most patients have a good prognosis, and a few cases have malignant biological behavior.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinicopathological characteristics, immunophenotype, and molecular signatures of oncocytic papillary renal cell carcinoma (OPRCC), and to compare these findings with those in type 1 papillary renal cell carcinoma (PRCC 1). Methods: The clinicopathologic data of 19 patients with OPRCC from the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University (16 patients) and the 971 Hospital of People's Liberation Army Navy (3 patients) from October 2003 to February 2021 were collected. Histologic, immunohistochemical (IHC) and molecular analyses, together with a control group of 15 cases of PRCC I diagnosed in the same period, were assessed. Results: The cohort included 15 males and 4 females, with a median age of 61 years (range, 47-78 years). In 13 patients the tumors were found at physical examination; four presented with painless gross hematuria and two with low back pain. As for the pathologic stage, 14 patients were pT1, one patient was pT2a, three patients were pT3a and one patient was pT4. The tumor size ranged from 1.7-14.0 cm, with clear boundary and soft texture. The cut surface was grayish-yellow and grayish-red. Microscopically, the tumor cells were mainly arranged in papillary (10%-100%) and acinar (tubular) patterns, with strongly eosinophilic cytoplasm, round or irregular nuclei, and prominent nucleoli (WHO/ISUP grade Ⅲ). Two cases showed sarcomatoid differentiation. Stromal foamy macrophages were visible in all cases. IHC staining showed diffuse strong positivity for AMACR in all cases. RCC (18/19), CD10 (17/19), vimentin (16/19) and PAX8 (17/19) were positive in most tumors. CK7 was expressed in about 50% of cases. Fluorescence in situ hybridization identified trisomy 7 in eight patients, trisomy 17 in seven patients, and the two aberrations occurred simultaneously in seven cases. Eight of 13 men had Y chromosome deletion. All patients were followed up for 8-120 months. Three patients died of metastases at 8, 62 and 82 months postoperatively, respectively, and one patient relapsed 36 months after surgery. Compared with PRCC1, OPRCC tended to have higher nuclear grade, and stromal foam cell aggregation was more commonly found (P<0.05). The expression of CD10 and EMA were different (P<0.01). There was no significant difference in the survival rate between the two groups (P=0.239). Conclusions: OPRCC has unique morphologic features, and its immunophenotype overlaps but differs from PRCC1. The molecular results support that it belongs to a morphologic variation of PRCC. This tumor has similar biologic behavior to PRCC1, and has a poor prognosis when sarcomatoid differentiation occurs.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to explore the toxic effects of different heavy metals in combination with their deposition and ion homeostasis in the reproductive organs and eggs of laying hens, as well as the alleviating action of selenized yeast. A total of 160 Lohmann pink-shell laying hens (63-week-old) were randomly allocated into four treatments with 10 replicates of four hens each. The four dietary treatments were the corn-soybean meal basal dietary (control; CON); the CON dietary supplemented with 0.4 mg/kg selenium from selenized yeast (Se); the CON dietary supplemented with 5 mg/kg Cd + 50 mg/kg Pb +3 mg/kg Hg + 5 mg/kg Cr (HEM), and the HEM dietary supplemented with 0.4 mg/kg selenium from selenized yeast (HEM+Se). The dietary HEM significantly increased Cd, Pb, and Hg deposition in the egg yolk and ovary, and Cd and Hg deposition in the oviduct and in the follicular wall (p < 0.05). The HEM elevated Fe concentration in the egg yolk, ovary, and oviduct (p < 0.05). The HEM decreased Mn concentration in the egg yolk, Fe, Mn, and Zn concentrations in the egg white, Cu concentration in the ovary, Mg concentration in the oviduct, as well as Ca, Cu, Zn, and Mg concentrations in the follicular walls (p < 0.05). Dietary Se addition elevated Se concentration in the egg yolk, oviduct, and follicular walls and Mg concentration (p < 0.05) in the oviduct, whereas it reduced Fe concentration in the oviduct compared with the HEM-treated hens. Some positive or negative correlations among these elements were observed. Canonical Correlation Analysis showed that the concentrations of Pb and Hg in the egg yolk were positively correlated with those in the ovary. The concentration of Cd in the egg white was positively correlated with that in the oviduct. In summary, dietary Cd, Pb, Hg, and Cr in combination caused ion loss and deposition of HEM in reproductive organs of laying hens. Dietary Se addition at 0.4 mg/kg from selenized yeast alleviated the negative effects of HEM on Fe and Mg ion disorder in the oviduct and follicle wall of hens.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the molecular mechanisms of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (CCRCC) with sarcomatoid differentiation (CCRCCS) and to explore new therapeutic targets for CCRCCS. Methods: Whole exome sequencing was performed on the carcinomatous and sarcomatoid components of five CCRCCS cases collected from January 2017 to October 2018. A highly frequent non-synonymous mutation of cadherin 23 (CDH23) was revealed by whole exome sequencing and further studied in additional samples. The sequencing of CDH23 in 40 specimens with CCRCCS and 50 specimens with CCRCC collected from January 2008 to October 2018 were conducted using Sanger sequencing. Immunohistochemistry was carried out to detect the protein expression of CDH23 in the additional 90 cases. Results: Carcinomatous and sarcomatoid components of CCRCCS shared most of the somatic single-nucleotide variants (SSNVs) as revealed through whole exome sequencing, while the sarcomatoid component had higher overall SSNVs than carcinomatous component. A highly frequent non-synonymous mutation of CDH23 (p.Arg1804Gln) was observed both in carcinomatous and sarcomatoid components of CCRCCS that resulted in the alteration in the highly conserved calcium-binding site mediating the functions of cadherins. In the additional 90 specimens, CDH23 mutation was much frequently detected in CCRCCS than that in CCRCC samples and even the high grade CCRCC. CDH23 protein was not or weakly expressed in most CCRCCS specimens with CDH23 mutation. There was an correlation between CDH23 gene mutation and negative expression of its protein (r=0.598, P<0.01). Conclusions: The present study reveals, for the first time, that the mutation of CDH23 (p.Arg1804Gln) is a genetic risk factor for CCRCCS. It is associated with the decreased expression of CDH23 protein, resulting in the absence of cadherin function of CDH23, indicating that CDH23 mutation may be involved in the sarcomatoid transformation in CCRCCS. Thus, CDH23 might be a potential therapeutic target for CCRCCS.

Abstract
Pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (pNENs) are highly heterogeneous, and the management of pNENs patients can be intractable. To address this challenge, an expert committee was established on behalf of the Group of Pancreatic Surgery, Chinese Society of Surgery, Chinese Medical Association, which consisted of surgical oncologists, gastroenterologists, medical oncologists, endocrinologists, radiologists, pathologists, and nuclear medicine specialists. By reviewing the important issues regarding the diagnosis and treatment of pNENs, the committee concluded evidence-based statements and recommendations in this article, in order to further improve the management of pNENs patients in China.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinicopathological characteristics of eosionphilic Chromophobe renal cell carcinoma (eChRCC), and differences in morphology, immunophenotype and clinical prognosis betweeneChRCC, renal oncocytoma(RO) and classic Chromophobe renal cell carcinoma (cChRCC). Methods: The clinicopathologic data of 17 patients diagnosed as eChRCC from the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University (13 cases) and 971 Hospital of PLA Navy (4 cases) from October 2006 to February 2019 were collected. Immunohistochemical analysis was carried out to compare the immunophenotypes between 17 cases with ChRCC, 27 cases with RO and 30 cases with cChRCC. Resuls: Among the 17 patients, seven were males and ten were females, and the age ranged from 40 to 75 years (median 54 years). Clinically, 15 cases of 17 were found accidentally by physical examination. The tumor size ranged from 1.8 cm to 10.0 cm (average 5.7 cm) and the cut surface of 15 cases were solid, one case was solicl and cystic, and one was cystic. Most showed gray to red, and partially soft, gray to yellow appearances. Microscopically, most tumors presented solid growth pattern with vary number of alveolar structures (12 cases). Some were predominately characterized by cystic structure (3 cases), alveolar structure(1 case) and microcapsule structure (1 case). There were boundaries with varying degrees of clarity between tumor cells in 16 cases. The cytoplasm of tumor cells was eosinophilic and the nuclei were small round or irregular with focal perinuclear haloes in 14 cases. Large polygonal cells with light-stained cytoplasm appeared focally in 9 cases, and edematous areas with scarce tumor cells were found in 4 cases. Among 7 cases, 4 cases focally invaded peripheral renal parenchyma, 2 cases invaded adipose tissues outside the renal capsule, and 1 case presented invasion of renal sinus. Immunohistochemically, all cases were moderate to strong positive for EMA and claudin-7. CK7, CD117 and Ksp-cad were highly expressed with the expression rates of 12/17, 15/17, 14/17, respectively. Cyclin D1, AMACR, CD10, S100A1, and RCC were rarely expressed with the expression rates of 4/17, 3/17, 4/17, 1/17 and 1/17, respectively. On the contrary, all cases were negative for vimentin, CAⅨ, HMB45 and Melan A. The Ki-67 proliferation index of the 17 cases was 1%‒5%. Follow-up data were available for all 17 patients from 7 to 154 months. Among them, 15 patients were alive without tumor recurrence or metastasis, one patient died of pulmonary metastasis after 31 months of surgery and one patient died of hepatic metastasis after 38 months of surgery. Conclusion: eChRCC has overlapping morphology and immunophenotype with RO. eChRCC is characterized by solid nest or alveolar structure, distinct border between tumor cells, perinuclear halos and lacking of interstitial looseness and edema. Scattered large polygonal cells with light-stained cytoplasm in tumor tissue play a significant role in the diagnosis of eChRCC. The positive expression of CK7, CD117, claudin-7 and Ksp-cad, and negative expression of cyclin D1, S100A1 are helpful to the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of eChRCC. The prognosis of eChRCC after complete surgical resection is excellent and few cases may have long-term metastasis. There is no significant difference in prognosis between eChRCC and cChRCC, but eChRCC shows better outcome than RO.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the current situation of exposure of solid particles in medical staff and the occurrence of related diseases, and to understand the distribution characteristics of occupational exposure and the influencing factors. Methods: In August 2016, the stratified cluster sampling method was adopted to select three tertiary general hospitals with different regions, different administrative levels and departments in Shandong Province. A face-to-face questionnaire survey was conducted on the basic situation of the staff of the hospital, the status of exposure to occupational hazards and the health effects. Two-class logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the relationship between medical staff's solid particle contact and occupational health effects. In August 2016, the stratified cluster sampling method was adopted to select three tertiary general hospitals with different regions, different administrative levels and departments in Shandong Province, which were in contact with the basic conditions and occupational hazards of the staff of the hospital. Current situation and health impacts were conducted face-to-face questionnaires. Two-class logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the relationship between medical staff's solid particle contact and occupational health effects. Results: The overall contact rate of solid particles of medical staff was 41.5% (1843/4 446) , and the solid particles with the highest contact rate were 28.2% (1254/4 446) of talc dust. There was a statistically significant difference in the contact rate of solid particles between medical staff of different occupations, current working age, education and hospital type (χ(2)=76.30, 41.26, 26.16, 188.97, P<0.05) . There were significant differences in the conditions and types of solid particles in different departments (χ(2)=740.23, P<0.05) . Compared with the control group, the incidence of allergic asthma, chronic tracheobronchitis and dermatitis was higher in the contact group medical staff (P<0.05) . Contact with zirconia dust, talc dust, cotton dust is a risk factor for dermatitis in medical staff (OR=2.09, 1.45, 1.34) ; exposure to zirconia dust and cotton dust is a risk factor for chronic tracheobronchitis in medical staff (OR=2.38, 1.66) ; exposure to zirconia dust, gypsum dust is a risk factor for allergic asthma in medical staff (OR=3.90, 1.52) . Conclusion: The contact rate of solid particles in medical staff is high, and there are many types of contact. Frequent contacted with solid particles is a dangerous cause of related diseases. The working environment of medical staff should be further monitored and be strengthen the targeted protective measures and regulatory systems for the exposure of medical personnel to solid particles.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinicopathologic characteristics, diagnostic features and prognosis of primary renal neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC). Methods: The clinicopathologic data of eight cases of renal NEC was collected from January 2008 to December 2017 from Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University. Immunohistochemical staining was performed, and follow-up information was analyzed, and the relevant literature reviewed. Results: The patients' mean age at diagnosis was 45 years (range, 27-66 years); five were women, and three were men. The tumors located on the left side in five patients, and on the right side in three. Five cases were detected incidentally, and three patients presented with loin pain. Microscopically, these cases included five well-differentiated NECs (three carcinoids, two atypical carcinoids), two small cell NECs, and one large cell NEC according to the World Health Organization classification of 2016. The tumors infiltrated the renal capsule in six cases. Necrosis was found in five cases. Vascular invasion with tumor emboli was seen in three cases. Lymph node metastasis was identified in one case. Immunohistochemically, the expression rates of neuroendocrine markers CD56, chromogranin A (CgA) and synaptophysin (Syn) were 6/8, 4/8, and 8/8 respectively. Some of the NECs were positive for epithelial markers CKpan (6/8, with three cases showing focal positivity) and CAM5.2 (4/8) of variable degrees. The Ki-67 proliferation index was≤3% in the carcinoids; ≥50% in the small cell carcinoma and large cell carcinoma; and 5% and 8% for the two cases of atypical carcinoid, respectively. All cases were negative for EMA, CK7, CA9, CD10, CD117, PAX2, PAX8, WT1, p63, S-100 and TTF1. Three patients (two with small cell carcinoma and one with large cell carcinoma) died of extensive metastases at 3 months, 4 months and 9 months after operation, while five patients were well, without recurrence or distant metastasis for follow-up period of one to nine years. Conclusions: Primary renal NEC is rare. Carcinoid is the most common histological type. The pathomorphological features and neuroendocrine markers (CD56, CgA, Syn), epithelial markers (CKpan, CAM5.2) and nephrogenic markers (PAX2, PAX8) are important for the diagnosis. Renal carcinoid tumors are indolent and prone to early metastasis, but are associated with prolonged survival. The small cell renal cell carcinoma and large cell carcinoma are highly malignant renal tumors with poor prognosis and short survival.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE ICOS/ICOSL plays a crucial part in various disease-mediated immune responses. However, the exact role of ICOS/ICOSL in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) development remains unexplored. This study aims to investigate the role of ICOS/ICOSL in the pathogenesis of T2DM. MATERIALS AND METHODS Human peripheral blood T-lymphocytes (CD3) and umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were treated with high-glucose (HG) or advanced glycation end products (AGEs). A portion of CD3 cells was co-cultured with HUVECs and treated with different mediums or anti-ICOS mAbs. The ICOS/ICOSL and caspase-3 protein expression was measured by Western blotting. ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay), MTT (3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide), and NOx production assays were respectively used to detect cytokines level, cell viability and the production of NOx. RESULTS HG and AGEs significantly upregulated ICOS/ICOSL expressions in T cells and HUVECs. T cell contact with HUVECs secreted more IFN-γ, IL-4, and IL-10 compared to non-contact cells, while cytokines from IL-6-, IL-1β-, and CM- (the conditioned medium) treated cells did not differ from the control. A significant increase of IL-8 and IL-6 was found in HUVECs under both contact and non-contact conditions vs. control cells. Similar results were also observed in the comparison between CM1- (T cell condition medium) or CM2- (co-culture condition medium) treated cells and control cells. However, CM1 and CM2 treatment significantly inhibited cell viability and increased caspase-3 and NOx production; blocking ICOS/ICOSL remarkably decreased cytokines secretion, enhanced cell viability and reduced caspase-3 and NOx production. CONCLUSIONS HG and AGEs cause T cell inflammatory response and vascular endothelial dysfunction by upregulating ICOS/ICOSL, which may be one of the possible mechanisms of cardiovascular complications development in T2DM patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND For cancer patients, health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is as important as other key outcomes, such as overall survival and tumor-free survival. Liver transplantation (LT), resection, and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) are 3 radical therapies for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) that result in similar survival. The main objective of this study was to assess and compare long-term HRQoL scores for patients with early-stage (tumor diameter ≤3 cm) HCC after LT, resection, or RFA. METHODS A total of 128 HCC patients with a single tumor ≤3 cm and who agreed to undergo LT, resection, or RFA were included in the present analysis. Postoperative HRQoL was evaluated by using the Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short Form Health Survey questionnaire. The 3 groups were compared at the 6-month and 3-year time points. RESULTS The 3 groups showed comparable 3-year HCC recurrence rates (P > .05). Compared with the LT and resection groups, the RFA group had significantly higher scores for bodily pain, general health, and vitality 6 months after surgery (all P values < .05). Moreover, at 3 years after surgery, the RFA group had higher scores for bodily pain and vitality than the other 2 groups (P < .05) and a higher general health score than the resection group. Other aspects of HRQoL were comparable among the 3 groups at both time points. CONCLUSIONS Due to its comparable HCC recurrence rate and superior long-term HRQoL scores relative to other radical therapies, RFA may be the first-choice treatment for solitary early-stage HCC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate tumor microenvironment of metastasis (TMEM) and the expression of SPARC (secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine) in gastric cancer, and their relationships with hematogenous metastasis. PATIENTS AND METHODS Twenty-six pairs of cases with gastric cancer were enrolled, in which there were 26 cases with distant organ metastases and 26 cases of gastric cancer without organ metastases as controls. TMEM (by double-stained immunohistochemistry) and the expression of SPARC were determined in twenty-six pairs of cases. In addition, we selected 48 patients to detect the expression of SPARC, VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor), and evaluated TAMs (tumor associated macrophages), MVD (the microvessel density), MPI (microvessel pericyte coverage index), and TMEM in gastric cancer tissues by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS TMEM count was significantly higher in the metastatic gastric cancer tissues than that in non-metastatic cancer tissues in a case-control study (p<0.01). On the contrary, SPARC expression was lower in the metastatic gastric cancer tissues than that in non-metastatic cancer tissues. TMEM count, TAMs, and MVD were significantly correlated with invasion depth, histological type and TNM stage (p<0.05 or p<0.01). Expression of SPARC and VEGF were significantly correlated with tumor histological types, invasion depth, differentiation and lymph node metastasis of patients (p<0.05). SPARC and VEGF expression in stromal cells of gastric cancer tissues were significantly correlated with TAMs, MVD and MPI (p<0.05). In addition, SPARC expression was significantly inversely correlated with VEGF expression in gastric cancer tissues (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS TMEM was detected in initial gastric cancer resection and closely correlated with hematogenous metastasis. Furthermore, SPARC may be involved in gastric cancer metastasis by effecting on tumor microenvironment.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the morphological features and immunophenotypes of eosinophilic renal tumors in order to provide references for the differential diagnosis of this tumor. Methods: A cohort of 75 cases of eosinophilic renal tumors were collected. The morphological features of the tumors were observed under microscope, and the immunophenotypes of the tumors were detected using tissue microarray and immunoshistochemistry. Results: There were some overlaps between the different types of eosinophilic renal tumors in morphology, but each had its distinct characteristics. Immunohistochemically, renal oncocytoma (RO) and eosinophilic chromophobe renal cell carcinoma (ChRCC) shared some common immumophenotypes, except for the expression of CK7, with the expression rates of 2/19 in RO and 17/20 in eosinophilic ChRCC, respectively. Eosinophilic clear cell renal cell carcinoma mainly showed positive immunostaining for Vimentin and CAⅨ, whereas negative for CK7 and CD117 in most cases (10/15). AMACR was diffusely expressed in the majority of eosinophilic papillary renal cell carcinoma (PRCC, 10/13). Furthermore, vimentin, CK7 and CD10 were positively expressed in eosinophilic PRCC with the expression rates of 8/13, 9/13 and 6/13, respectively; while CAⅨ, CD117 and TFE3 were all negatively expressed in eosinophilic PRCC.Epithelioid angiomyolipoma generally showed positive expression of vimentin, SMA and HMB45, but negative expression of CAⅨ and CK7. Vimentin, CD10, AMACR and TFE3 were strongly expressed in XP11.2 translocation renal cell carcinoma; on the contrary, CK7, CD117 and HMB45 were not expressed in the majority of the tumor. Conclusion: With full understanding of the morphology of different types of eosinophilic renal tumors, the immunostaining of vimentin, CAⅨ, CK7, CD10, AMACR, CD117, TFE3 and HMB45 could play a crucial role in the differential diagnosis of these tumors.

Abstract
Postoperative recurrence and metastasis have crucial roles in the poor prognosis of gastric cancer patients. Previous studies have indicated that gastric cancer originates from cancer stem cells (CSCs), and some investigators have found that a particular subset of CSCs possesses higher metastatic capacity. However, the specific mechanism remains uncertain. In the present study, we aimed to explore the biological functions of the inflammatory cytokine interleukin-17 (IL-17) in gastric cancer metastasis and the distinct IL-17-induced transformation of quiescent gastric CSCs. Our results showed that invasive gastric CSCs were CD26+ and CXCR4+ and were closely associated with increased metastatic ability. The quiescent gastric CSCs, which were CD26- and CXCR4-, were exposed to appropriate concentrations of IL-17; this resulted in the decreased expression of E-cadherin and the increased expression of vimentin and N-cadherin. In addition, the upregulation of IL-17 both in vitro and in vivo resulted in a significant induction of invasion, migration and tumor formation ability in gastric CSCs compared with the control group, which was not treated with IL-17. Further experiments indicated that the activation of the downstream phosphorylated signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) transcription factor pathway was facilitated by IL-17. On the contrary, the downregulation of STAT3 by the specific inhibitor Stattic significantly reversed the IL-17-induced epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-associated properties of quiescent gastric CSCs. Moreover, tumorigenesis and metastasis were suppressed. Taken together, we suggest that IL-17 is positively correlated with the transformation of quiescent gastric CSCs into invasive gastric CSCs and that targeting IL-17 may emerge as a possible novel therapeutic strategy for gastric cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE microRNAs (miRNAs) play important roles in the pathogenesis of asthma. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the promotor regions of miRNAs or pre-miRNAs are involved in the alteration of miRNA expression levels or their maturation process and can contribute to asthma pathogenesis. PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 591 asthma cases and 621 controls were recruited for this study to evaluate the genetic effects of the following five single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) on the development of asthma: rs8089787 and rs9948906 in the promoter region of mir-133a-1, pre-mir-499 rs37464444, pre-mir-152 rs1707, pre-mir-155 rs5186. The genotypes were determined using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS). RESULTS Logistic regression analysis revealed that the CT and CT+TT genotypes in the mir-133a-1 rs8089787 (CT vs. CC, OR = 0.413, 95% CI: 0.315-0.541; CT+TT vs. CC, OR = 0.443, 95% CI: 0.342-0.574, respectively) were significantly associated with a decreased risk for asthma in sample of the Chinese Han population, compared with CC genotype. Similarly, the CT and CT+TT genotypes in the mir-133a-1 rs9948906 (CT vs. CC, OR = 0.398, 95% CI: 0.300-0.528; CT+TT vs. CC, OR = 0.403, 95% CI: 0.306-0.532, respectively) were associated with a decreased risk of asthma. However, the C alleles of both mir-133a-1 rs8089787 (C vs. T, OR = 1.867, 95% CI: 1.486-2.345) and rs9948906 (C vs. T, OR = 2.177, 95% CI: 1.690-2.804) were significantly associated with an increased risk for asthma. The CT genotype frequencies of pre-mir-152 rs1707 (CT vs. TT, OR = 4.730, 95% CI: 2.425-9.223) were significantly associated with an increased risk for asthma in a Chinese Han population (p < 0.001). The C allele frequencies of pre-mir-152 rs1707 (C vs. T, OR = 6.671, 95% CI: 3.146-14.147) was also significantly associated with an increased risk of asthma in a Chinese Han population (p < 0.001). However, the genotype and allele frequencies of rs5186, located in pre-miR-155, did not significantly differ between the cases and the controls; as well as those of rs3746444 in pre-miR-499. CONCLUSIONS Our study provided evidence that polymorphisms of rs8089787 and rs9948906 in the promotor region of mir-133a-1 and pre-mir-152 rs1707 may contribute to the risk of asthma in a Chinese Han population.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Cathepsin S (CTSS) is a lysosomal cysteine protease and is predominantly expressed in antigen-presenting cells, which plays an important role in the allergic response. In this study, we explored the association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the promotor regions in CTSS and risk of asthma. PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 591 cases and 621 controls were recruited for this study. Five SNPs in the CTSS were selected including rs7534124, rs16827671, rs34495036, rs3754212, and rs1136774. Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) was employed for genotyping. RESULTS Logistic regression analysis showed that rs7534124 CT and CT + CC genotypes had significantly decreased risk of asthma (CT vs. TT, OR 0.576, 95% CI: 0.425-0.780, p < 0.001; CT + CC vs. TT, OR 0.638, 95% CI: 0.479-0.849, p < 0.001; respectively) compared to TT genotype. Similarly, the rs1136774 AG and AG + GG genotypes (AG vs. AA, OR 0.581, 95% CI: 0.426-0.793, p = 0.001; AG + GG vs. AA, OR 0.647, 95% CI: 0.483-0.867, p = 0.004, respectively) were also associated with a decreased risk of asthma. However, there was no significant association between genotypes of the remaining SNPs and the risk of asthma (p > 0.006). Moreover, the alleles in all SNPs are also not associated with the risk of asthma. CONCLUSIONS Our study provided strong evidence that polymorphism of rs7534124 and rs1136774 in CTSS promoter may decrease the susceptibility of asthma in a Chinese Han population.

Abstract
AIM The present study was conducted to investigate whether LBP had a protective effect on cerebral ischemic reperfusion injury and to determine the possible mechanisms. MATERIALS AND METHODS Male Kunming (KM) mice were used to make the model cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion (MCAO/R). The behavioral test was used to measure neurological deficit scores for evaluation of ischemic reperfusion damage of brain. The change of electroencephalograph (EEG) was monitored by Model SMUP-E Bio-electric Signals Processing System. The infarction area of brain was assessed in brain slices with 2% solution of 2,3,5-triphenyl tetrazolium chloride (TTC). Spectrophotometric assay was used to determine the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), catalase (CAT) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), contents of malondialdehyde (MDA) and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) of the brain. RESULTS The results showed that LBP at doses of 20 and 40 mg/kg markedly decreased the neurological deficit scores and the infarction area in MCAO/R mice. At the same time, LBP significantly decreased MDA content, and increased SOD, GSH-Px, CAT, LDH activities in ischemic reperfusion brain. CONCLUSIONS These suggest that LBP might act as a potential neuroprotective agent against the cerebral reperfusion-induced injury in the brain through reducing lipid peroxides, scavenging free radicals, and improving the energy metabolism.

Abstract
Intraductal papillary neoplasms of the breast form a wide spectrum of pathological changes with benign intraductal papilloma and papillary carcinoma. They can occur anywhere within the breast ductal system. This review illustrates some characteristic appearances of breast papillary neoplasms on coronal planes reconstructed by automatic breast volume scan. Such manifestations are not uncommon in papillary neoplasms, and familiarity will enable confident diagnosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The use of the pure blood pool ultrasound contrast agent SonoVue (Bracco, Italy) with specific ultrasound imaging software has enabled the dynamic visualization of tumor microcirculation. AIM The present study was designed to investigate the washout time of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and correlate it with angiogenesis parameters. METHODS Thirty-one surgically confirmed HCC cases were prospectively evaluated with contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS), and parameters such as wash-in time, peak enhancement time and washout time were determined offline. We also calculated microvessel density and the percentage of microvessel area (MVA) and compared CEUS parameters between a well differentiated group and a poorly to moderately differentiated group. The Spearman rank order correlation method was used to analyze the relationship between washout time and angiogenesis parameters. RESULTS The washout time was longer in well differentiated HCC patients compared to those with poorly to moderately differentiated HCC (p < 0.05). In addition, the washout time of HCC was positively correlated with the percentage of MVA (r = 0.510). CONCLUSIONS Given that the percentage of MVA was positively correlated with tumor blood volume, washout time may be associated with HCC blood volume.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Obesity has been associated with reflux esophagitis. However, the association of metabolic syndrome with reflux esophagitis remains unknown. METHODS A case-control study of 372 subjects undergoing upper endoscopy during health checkups was conducted (182 patients with reflux esophagitis vs 190 age and gender-matched controls). We further measured their height, weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, blood pressure, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein, and fasting blood glucose. Multivariable linear regression analysis was used to identify the independent risk factors associated with the presence of reflux esophagitis. KEY RESULTS Reflux esophagitis cases showed higher mean waist circumference (81.37 ± 0.68 vs 79.36 ± 0.70, P < 0.05), waist hip ratio (0.86 ± 0.01 vs 0.84 ± 0.01, P < 0.05) and fasting blood glucose (5.59 ± 0.10 vs 5.32 ± 0.08, P < 0.05) than those in controls. When adjusted for gender and age, multivariate analysis demonstrated that there was a positive dose-response relationship between reflux esophagitis and waist hip ratio (men: OR 3.41, 95% CI 1.52-7.62, women: OR 3.37, 95% CI 1.61-7.06), triglyceride (OR 2.07, 95% CI 1.12-3.82), fasting blood glucose (OR 1.81, 95% CI 1.12-2.94), and metabolic syndrome (OR 2.01, 95% CI 1.15-3.50), there was an inverse dose-response relationship between reflux esophagitis and high-density lipoprotein for men (OR 0.36, 95% CI 0.15-0.85). CONCLUSIONS & INFERENCES High waist hip ratio, triglyceride, fasting blood glucose, and metabolic syndrome were associated with increased risk factors for reflux esophagitis while high high-density lipoprotein for men correlated with a reduced risk of reflux esophagitis.

Abstract
The interaction of colloid-based, carbon supported Pt/C (40 wt%), PtRu/C (45 wt%) and Pt3Sn/C (24 wt%) catalysts with ethanol and their performance for ethanol electrooxidation were investigated in model studies by electrochemical, in situ infrared spectroscopy and on-line differential electrochemical mass spectrometry measurements. The combined application of in situ spectroscopic techniques on realistic catalysts and under realistic reaction (DEMS, IR) and transport conditions (DEMS) yields new insight on mechanistic details of the reaction on these catalysts under the above reaction and transport conditions. Based on these results, the addition of Sn or Ru, though beneficial for the overall activity for ethanol oxidation, does not enhance the activity for C-C bond breaking. Dissociative adsorption of ethanol to form CO2 is more facile on the Pt/C catalyst than on PtRu/C and Pt3Sn/C catalysts within the potential range of technical interests (<0.6 V), but Pt/C is rapidly blocked by an inhibiting CO adlayer. In all cases acetaldehyde and acetic acid are dominant products, CO2 formation contributes less than 2% to the total current. The higher ethanol oxidation current density on the Pt3Sn/C catalyst at these potentials results from higher yields of C2 products, not from an improved complete ethanol oxidation to CO2.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Punctate palmoplantar keratoderma (PPK) is a rare autosomal dominant cutaneous disorder characterized by numerous hyperkeratotic papules distributed on the palms and soles. Two loci for punctate PPK were recently found to be located on 8q24.13-8q24.21 and 15q22-15q24. However, no genes for this disease have been identified to date. Objectives To refine the previously mapped regions and to identify the disease gene locus in a four-generation Chinese family with punctate PPK. METHODS Genetic linkage analysis was carried out in this family using microsatellite markers on chromosomes 8q and 15q. Two-point linkage analysis was performed using Linkage programs version 5.10 and the haplotype was constructed using Cyrillic version 2.02 software. RESULTS We failed to confirm our previous locus at 8q24.13-8q24.21, but significant evidence for linkage was observed in the region of 15q with a maximum two-point LOD score of 5.38 at D15S153 (theta = 0.00). Haplotype analysis localized the punctate PPK locus within the region defined by D15S651 and D15S988. This region overlaps by 5.06 cM with the previously reported punctate PPK region. CONCLUSIONS This study refines a disease gene causing punctate PPK to a 5.06-cM interval at 15q22.2-15q22.31.

Abstract
Dyschromatosis symmetrica hereditaria (DSH) is a pigmentary genodermatosis of autosomal dominant inheritance characterized by a mixture of hyperpigmented and hypopigmented macules distributed on the dorsal aspects of the hands and feet. It is caused by mutations of the RNA-specific adenosine deaminase gene. We report the identification of a Chinese family with a three-generation pedigree of DSH, in whom a novel tyrosine substitution mutation in DSRAD was demonstrated: a heterozygous nucleotide A-->G transition at position 2879 in exon 10 of the DSRAD gene was detected.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the features of the breast ultrasound image and its correlation with estrogen and progestogen level during different phases of menstrual cycle in normal women. METHODS Breast ultrasound was performed during luteal phase and late follicular phase in 50 women aged 25-45, with normal menstrual cycle and no distinct breast disease. Breast section thickness, ductal width, breast structure and blood flow were measured. Initial time and persistent days of the cyclic breast pain were recorded. Serum estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P) levels were measured by enzyme immunoassay on the day of ultrasound performed. RESULTS Breast glandular section was thicker (increasing by 7.3%) in luteal phase than that in late follicular phase and breast ductal was wider (increasing by 13%) in late follicular phase than that in luteal phase. However, both of them had no significant difference. Thirty women (60%) experienced cyclic premenstrual mastalgia, lasting 4 days. Twenty four women (48%) had breast structure changes, nineteen (63.3%) of 30 women with cyclic mastalgia, but only 5 (25%) of 20 women without breast pain had breast structure change (chi 2, P < 0.01). Average serum E2 level of women with or without cyclic breast pain in luteal phase were 365.0 pmol/L and 335.3 pmol/L respectively (P > 0.05), serum progesterone level were 73.3 nmol/L and 66.1 nmol/L respectively (P > 0.05). Serum E2 levels of women with or without cyclic breast pain in late follicular phase were 299.9 pmol/L and 385.8 pmol/L respectively (P = 0.05). Average serum E2 levels of women with or without breast structure change in luteal phase were 368.1 pmol/L and 322.7 pmol/L respectively (P < 0.05). Serum P levels were 78.8 nmol/L and 62.2 nmol/L respectively (P = 0.05); Estradiol levels in late follicular phase were 301.9 pmol/L and 364.2 pmol/L respectively (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Image of breast ultrasound changed following menstrual cycle in normal menstrual women. Breast structure changes is related to breast pain. Breast pain and breast structure changes may be caused by higher E2 and P level in luteal phase and lower E2/P ratio in late follicular phase.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To observe the effects of repeated transcutaneous nerve stimulation (TENS) with low frequency (2 Hz) and high frequency (100 Hz) on the chronic inflammatory pain. METHODS The complete Freund's adjuvant was used to make the monoadjuvant arthritis as a chronic inflammatory pain model. The model animals were divided into 3 groups, the 100 Hz TENS group, the 2 Hz TENS group and the control group. The percentage increase of body weight, circumference of ankle, score of flexion pain test and score of extension pain test were used to evaluate the therapeutic effect of TENS. RESULTS (1) Body weight increasing rate in the 100 Hz TENS group was markedly higher than that in the 2 Hz TENS group and the control group. (2) Circumference of rats' ankle in the 100 Hz TENS group was smaller than that in the 2 Hz TENS and the control group. (3) Repeated 100 Hz TENS showed more effective on pain relief than that of 2 Hz TENS. CONCLUSION TENS has therapeutic effects on chronic inflammatory pain in rats, and different frequencies yielded different results.

Abstract
Insulin-like growth factor I receptor (IGFR) plays an important role in cell growth and transformation. We dissected the downstream signaling pathways of an oncogenic variant of IGFR, Gag-IGFR, called NM1. Loss of function mutants of NM1, Phe-1136 and dS2, that retain kinase activity but are attenuated in their transforming ability were used to identify signaling pathways that are important for transformation of NIH 3T3 cells. MAPK, phospholipase C gamma, and Stat3 were activated to the same extent by NM1 and its two mutants, suggesting that activation of these pathways, individually or in combination, was not sufficient for NM1-induced cell transformation. The mutant dS2 has decreased IRS-1 phosphorylation levels and IRS-1-associated phosphatidylinositol 3'-kinase activity, suggesting that this impairment may be in part responsible for the defectiveness of dS2. We show that Rho family members, RhoA, Rac1, and Cdc42 are activated by NM1, and this activation, particularly RhoA and Cdc42, is attenuated in both mutants of NM1. Dominant negative mutants of Rho, Rac, and Cdc42 inhibited NM1-induced cell transformation, as measured by focus and colony forming ability. Dominant negative Rho most potently inhibited the focus forming activity, whereas Cdc42 was most effective in inhibiting the colony forming ability of NM1-expressing cells. Conversely, constitutively activated (ca) Rho is more effective than ca Rac or ca Cdc42 in rescuing the focus forming ability of the mutants. By contrast, ca Cdc42 is most effective in rescuing the colony forming ability of both mutants.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the vestibular's sensitivity to the stimulus of the cold and hot water. METHOD Forty volunteers are randomly divided into four groups, group one for maths calculation, group two for answering the questions (they are active alerting groups) and group three and four for listening to music and to stories respectively (they are passive alerting groups). Each group has ten volunteers, their left ears are separately stimulated with the cold and hot water, recording the nystagmus slow phase velocity for 20 s at the highest level with the nystagmography instrument of HB-3 ENG computer treatment system. RESULT There are significant differences between the two active alerting groups and the two passive ones (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION In performing the vestibular's caloric test, it's more reasonable for clinic to use active alerting tasks.

Abstract
To investigate the potential role of protein kinase C-delta (PKC-delta) in insulin-like growth factor I receptor (IGF-IR)-mediated cell transformation, an oncogenic gag-IGF-IR beta-fusion receptor lacking the entire extracellular domain, which was designated NM1, and a full-length IGF-IR were coexpressed with either wild-type PKC-delta (PKC-deltaWT) or an ATP-binding mutant of PKC-delta (PKC-deltaK376R) in NIH 3T3 fibroblasts. While overexpression of PKC-deltaWT did not affect NM1- and IGF-IR-induced focus and colony formation of NIH 3T3 cells, expression of PKC-deltaK376R severely impaired these events. In contrast, NM1-mediated cell growth in monolayer was not affected by coexpressing PKC-deltaK376R. PKC-deltaWT and PKC-deltaK376R were constitutively phosphorylated on a tyrosine residue(s) in the NM1- and IGF-IR-expressing cells and were associated with them in an IGF-I-independent manner. Activated IGF-IR was able to phosphorylate purified PKC-delta in vitro and stimulated its kinase activity. Furthermore, the level of endogenous PKC-delta protein was up-regulated through transcriptional activation in response to long-term IGF-IR activation. Taken together, our results demonstrate that PKC-delta plays an important role in IGF-IR-mediated cell transformation, probably via association of the receptor with PKC-delta and its activation through protein up-regulation and tyrosine phosphorylation. Competition with endogenous PKC-delta for NM1 and IGF-IR association by PKC-deltaK376R is probably an important mechanism underlying the PKC-deltaK376R-mediated inhibition of cell transformation by NM1 and IGF-IR.

Intracerebroventricular (icv) injection of pirenzepine (Pir) 2 mg.kg-1 caused EEG spike discharges, which first appeared in amygdala or hippocampus and then in midbrain reticular formation and cortex. After that rabbits developed clonic convulsions. Injection (300 micrograms) into amygdala or hippocampus also produced EEG spike discharges Hemicholinium 3 (HC-3) 50-150 micrograms.kg-1 icv inhibited the EEG spike and seizure discharges in varying degrees produced by Pir. It is suggested that Pir has a central stimulatory action which is related to cholinergic mechanism.

Abstract
Micronucleated exfoliated cell (MEC) of oral mucosa of 40 patients with myasthenia gravis (MG) and 54 normal controls were observed by means of micronucleus test. The frequency of MEC of two groups were 9.56/1000 and 2.55/1000 respectively, and their difference was remarkably significant (P < 0.001). 22 cases were treated by TCM Qiang Ji Jian Li Capsule. The frequency of MEC after treatment fell from 14.38/1000 to 6.00/1000. The difference was significant (P < 0.002). The frequency of Spleen-asthenia group higher than that of non-Spleen-asthenia (P < 0.05). The results revealed that. The patients with MG had genotoxic damage. (2) The constitution with the Spleen-asthenia and the genotoxic damage was related. (3) Qiang Ji Jian Li Capsule of invigorating the Spleen and benefiting Qi could reduce the genotoxic damage.

Abstract
This paper reports the relation between fluoride contents and pathologic changes of skeletal system in Wistar rats after inhalation of organofluoride compound-trifluoromethyl hypofluoride. The trifluoromethyl hypofluoride (CF3OF), purity greater than 95%, used in this study was produced and provided by the Chenguang Chemical Industrial Institute. Twenty-four Wistar rats, weighing between 200 and 250g, were divided into three groups: a control group and two test groups. They were exposure to the trifluoromethyl hypofluoride gas at a dosage of 0, 0.067 and 0.1 ppm respectively, in 1 m3 Plexiglass chamber, two hours a day, five days a week. The results showed that the fluoride levels of ilia in 0.067 and 0.1 ppm group rats were significantly higher than those in the control group (P less than 0.05). The osteogenic effect of CF3OF was confirmed by the histopathological examination of the skeletal tissues. The lesions were also mainly limited to the 0.1 ppm CF3OF group. A very marked osteogenic reaction was found in the periosteum and Haversian canals of ilia in the rats including focal active periosteous osteoblastic proliferations and bone or osteoid tissues forming with a little osteoclastic reactions. for 23 weeks.

Using HT-29 colonic cancer cell line as the immunogen, monoclonal antibody Hb3 was generated, which can react to colonic carcinoma and several colonic cancer cell lines. In this paper, formalin fixed tissue sections of the human colonic cancer and adenoma were tested by indirect immunofluorescence using monoclonal antibody Hb3. In 20 colonic cancers, 16 belonged to well and moderately differentiated carcinoma, 4 to poorly differentiated carcinoma and mucoid adenocarcinoma. All of the former reacted to monoclonal antibody Hb3 but no reaction was seen in the latter. The positive rate was 80%. By the same method, 20 colonic adenomas were also studied. 19 were negative except one, a papillo-adenoma with dysplasia, which was weakly positive. The results indicate that monoclonal antibody Hb3 can be used in differentiating colonic carcinoma from adenoma and as an effective indicator of the malignant change of colonic adenoma.

Abstract
Investigation of patients, healthy persons, and ticks in Jinghe County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, People's Republic of China, for evidence of spotted fever group (SFG) rickettsiosis demonstrated strong evidence for a high prevalence of pathogenic SFG rickettsiae. Antibodies to SFG rickettsiae were detected in 62.5% of healthy subjects tested by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and 20% tested by complement fixation test. Two febrile patients were documented as having acute spotted fever rickettsiosis by complement fixation seroconversion. One, and 11-year-old Kazakh boy with eschar and regional lymphadenopathy, had an SFG rickettsia (An strain) isolated from his blood. A hemolymph test revealed that 20% of ticks contained rickettsiae. Two strains of SFG rickettsiae were isolated from male and female Dermacentor nuttalli ticks. The human SFG rickettsial isolate is the first to be obtained in the People's Republic of China.
