Abstract
BACKGROUND Recently, peptides have been studied in Caenorhabditis elegans for anti-aging research. Due to the lack of sufficient evidence, we conducted this meta-analysis focusing on the anti-aging effect of peptides in C. elegans to provide more convincing evidence. RESULTS A literature search in PubMed, SCOUPUS, and Web of Science databases yielded 2879 articles. After removing duplicates and based on inclusion criteria and STAIR checklist quality assessment, nine articles were selected. Data extraction and analysis showed that, compared to the control group without peptide intervention, peptide supplementation significantly reduced nematode mortality risk [hazard ratio = 0.54, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.47, 0.62; P < 0.05], significantly increased the pharyngeal pumping rate [standardized mean difference (SMD) = 1.64, 95% CI = 0.87, 2.41; P < 0.05], bending frequency (SMD = 1.67, 95% CI = 1.16, 2.18; P < 0.05), and significantly decreased the accumulation of lipofuscin levels within nematodes (SMD = -4.48, 95% CI = -6.85, -2.12; P < 0.05). Additionally, subgroup analysis showed that doses ranging from 0.1 to 1 mg/mL (HR = 0.50, 95% CI = 0.38, 0.65; P < 0.05) displayed better anti-aging effects compared to other dose ranges. CONCLUSION The findings suggest that peptides can significantly extend the lifespan of C. elegans under normal circumstances and improve three indicators of healthy life. More importantly, subgroup analysis revealed that a dosage of 0.1-1 mg/mL demonstrated superior anti-aging effects. This meta-analysis provides more convincing evidence that peptides can play an anti-aging role in C. elegans. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To compared the presentation of research priorities in the GRADE (Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation) clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) developed under the guidance of the GRADE working group or its two co-chair, and the Chinese CPGs. METHODS This was a methodological empirical analysis. We searched PubMed, Embase, and four Chinese databases (Wanfang, VIP Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database) and retrieved nine Chinese guideline databases or Society websites as well as GRADE Pro websites. We included all eligible GRADE CPGs and a random sample of double number of Chinese CPGs, published 2018 to 2022. The reviewers independently screened and extracted the data, and we summarized and analyzed the reporting on the research priorities in the CPGs. RESULTS Of the 135 eligible CPGs (45 GRADE CPGs and 90 Chinese CPGs), 668, 138 research priorities were identified respectively. More than 70% of the research priorities in GRADE CPGs and Chinese CPGs had population and intervention (PI) structure. 99 (14.8%) of GRADE CPG research priorities had PIC structures, compared with only 4(2.9%) in Chinese. And 28.4% (190) GRADE CPG research priorities reflected comparisons between PICO elements, approximately double those in Chinese. The types of research priorities among GRADE CPGs and Chinese CPGs were mostly focused on the efficacy of interventions, and the type of comparative effectiveness in the GRADE research priorities was double those in Chinese. CONCLUSIONS There was still considerable room for improvement in the developing and reporting of research priorities in Chinese CPGs. Key PICO elements were inadequately presented, with more attention on intervention efficacy and insufficient consideration given to values, preferences, health equity, and feasibility. Identifying and reporting of research priorities deserves greater effort in the future.

Abstract
The uneven settlement of the surrounding ground surface caused by subway construction is not only complicated but also liable to cause casualties and property damage, so a timely understanding of the ground settlement deformation in the subway excavation and its prediction in real time is of practical significance. Due to the complex nonlinear relationship between subway settlement deformation and numerous influencing factors, as well as the existence of a time lag effect and the influence of various factors in the process, the prediction performance and accuracy of traditional prediction methods can no longer meet industry demands. Therefore, this paper proposes a surface settlement deformation prediction model by combining noise reduction and attention mechanism (AM) with the long short-term memory (LSTM). The complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise (CEEMDAN) and independent component analysis (ICA) methods are used to denoise the input original data and then combined with AM and LSTM for prediction to obtain the CEEMDAN-ICA-AM-LSTM (CIAL) prediction model. Taking the settlement monitoring data of the construction site of Urumqi Rail Transit Line 1 as an example for analysis reveals that the model in this paper has better effectiveness and applicability in the prediction of surface settlement deformation than multiple prediction models. The RMSE, MAE, and MAPE values of the CIAL model are 0.041, 0.033 and 0.384%; R2 is the largest; the prediction effect is the best; the prediction accuracy is the highest; and its reliability is good. The new method is effective for monitoring the safety of surface settlement deformation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND With the aging of human society, more and more elderly patients have to undergo surgery and anesthesia. Clinical observations have indicated from time to time that spinal anesthesia in the elderly appears to last longer than in young people, although there is limited research in this area and the mechanism is unclear at present time. This research work is expected to help understand the decline of local anesthetic metabolism in cerebrospinal fluid of elderly patients so as to help them with precise anesthesia and rapid rehabilitation. METHODS Twenty patients with spinal anesthesia in orthopedic lower limb surgery were selected to study the rate of drug metabolism in cerebrospinal fluid in two age groups, i.e.,18-30 years old and 75-90 years old. Ropivacaine in peripheral blood is used as a probe to reflect the speed of drug metabolism in cerebrospinal fluid. The contents of total Aβ protein and hyaluronic acid in the cerebrospinal fluid were investigated as well. RESULTS The equivalent dose of ropivacaine anesthetizes the elderly group for a longer time. The metabolism rate of ropivacaine in an elderly patient was slower than that of a young patient. No significant difference in total Aβ protein between the two groups was observed while hyaluronic acid in the elderly group was significantly higher than that in the young group. CONCLUSIONS This study shows that the dose of ropivacaine should be reduced when used for anesthesia in elderly patients. The cumulation of ropivacaine and HA appears to imitate the degeneration of central lymphatic circulation metabolism in elderly people.

Abstract
Developing efficient oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) bifunctional electrocatalysts is attractive for rechargeable metal-air batteries. Meanwhile, single metal atoms embedded in 2D layered transition metal chalcogenides (TMDs) have become a very promising catalyst. Recently, many attentions have been paid to the 2D ReS2 electrocatalyst due to its unique distorted octahedral 1T' crystal structure and thickness-independent electronic properties. Here, the catalytic activity of different transition metal (TM) atoms embedded in ReS2 using the density functional theory is investigated. The results indicate that TM@ReS2 exhibits outstanding thermal stability, good electrical conductivity, and electron transfer for electrochemical reactions. And the Ir@ReS2 and Pd@ReS2 can be used as OER/ORR bifunctional electrocatalysts with a lower overpotential for OER (ηOER ) of 0.44 V and overpotentials for ORR (ηORR ) of 0.26 V and 0.27 V, respectively. The excellent catalytic activity is attributed to the optimal adsorption strength for oxygen intermediates coming from the effective modulation of the electronic structure of ReS2 after Ir/Pd doping. The results can help to deeply understand the catalytic activity of TM@ReS2 and develop novel and highly efficient OER/ORR electrocatalysts.

Abstract
Oxides are one of the most important impurities in the fuel salt of molten salt reactors (MSRs), and excessive oxide impurities pose a risk to the safe operation of MSRs. This study focused on investigating the precipitation behavior between Th4+, U4+, and Be2+ with O2- in the 2LiF-BeF2 (FLiBe) eutectic salt system. The results showed that the solubility of UO2 was 5.52 × 10-3 mol kg-1, and the solubility product (Ksp) of UO2 was 6.14 × 10-7 mol3 kg-3 in FLiBe salt at 650 °C. It was also found that the O2- ion would firstly react with U4+ to form UO2, and then the excessive O2- would react with Be2+ to generate BeO in the FLiBe system. Despite conducting the solubility experiment of ThO2 and titration experiment of FLiBe-ThF4, the system failed to achieve the solubility and the Ksp of ThO2. The main reason for this was that O2- preferentially reacted with Be2+ over Th4+ to form precipitates, in other words, Be2+ exerted a protective effect against Th4+. Above all, this work experimentally demonstrated that in the FLiBe system, O2- preferentially combines with U4+ to form a precipitate, followed by Be2+, while Th4+ is relatively inert.

Abstract
Monoethanolamines (MEAs) are widely used for CO2 capture, but their regeneration energy consumption is very high. CO2 Phase change absorbents (CPCAs) can be converted into CO2-rich and CO2-lean phases after absorbing CO2, and the regeneration energy consumption can be reduced because only the CO2-rich phase is thermally desorbed. In this paper, a novel CPCA with the composition "MEA/n-butanol/H2O (MNBH)" is proposed. Compared with the reported MEA phase change absorbent, the MNBH absorbent has higher CO2 absorption capacity, smaller absorbent viscosity and CO2-rich phase volume. The MNBH absorbent has the highest CO2 absorption capacity of 2.5227 mol CO2 per mol amine at a mass ratio of 3 : 4 : 3. The CO2 desorption efficiency reaches 89.96% at 120 °C, and the CO2 regeneration energy consumption is 2.6 GJ tCO2-1, which is about 35% lower than that of the 30 wt% MEA absorbent. When the mass ratio of MNBH absorbent was 3 : 6 : 1, the CO2 recycling capacity was 4.1918 mol CO2 L-1, which is 76% higher than that of the conventional 30 wt% MEA absorbent. The phase change absorbent developed in this paper can reduce the desorbent volume by about 50% and has good absorption performance for CO2 in flue gas.

Abstract
Currently, the copolymer of dopamine (DA) and pyrrole (PY) via chemical and electrochemical oxidation usually requires additional oxidants, and lacks flexibility in regulating the size and morphology, thereby limiting the broad applications of DA-PY copolymer in biomedicine. Herein, the semiquinone radicals produced by the self-oxidation of DA is ingeniously utilized as the oxidant to initiate the following copolymerization with PY, and a series of quinone-rich polydopamine-pyrrole copolymers (PDAm -nPY) with significantly enhanced absorption in near-infrared (NIR) region without any additional oxidant assistance is obtained. Moreover, the morphology and size of PDAm -nPY can be regulated by changing the concentration of DA and PY, thereby optimizing nanoscale PDA0.05 -0.15PY particles (≈ 150 nm) with excellent NIR absorption and surface modification activity are successfully synthesized. Such PDA0.05 -0.15PY particles show effective photoacoustic (PA) imaging and photothermal therapy (PTT) against 4T1 tumors in vivo. Furthermore, other catechol derivatives can also copolymerize with PY under the same conditions. This work by fully utilizing the semiquinone radical active intermediates produced through the self-oxidation of DA reduces the dependence on external oxidants in the synthesis of composite materials and predigests the preparation procedure, which provides a novel, simple, and green strategy for the synthesis of other newly catechol-based functional copolymers.

Abstract
PURPOSE The goal of blood pressure (BP) control will be lower when hypertensive patients have comorbidities that can affect the risk of cardiovascular diseases. But, the goal of BP control for hypertensive patients coexistent with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is not discussed, which is a special population at high risk of cardiovascular diseases. PATIENTS AND METHODS Using data from a retrospective study(Urumqi Research on Sleep Apnea and Hypertension (UROSAH) study, we enrolled 3267 participants who were diagnosed with hypertension and performed polysomnography during 2011-2013 to explore the association between BP control and long-term major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular event (MACCE). Outcomes of interest was the levels of BP control, MACCE, cardiac event and cerebrovascular event. Then we calculated the cumulative incidence of MACCE and performed Cox proportional hazards with stepwise models. RESULTS 379 of 3267 patients experienced MACCE during a median follow-up of 7.0 years. After full risk adjustment, BP control of 120-139/80-89mmHg was associated with the lowest risk of cerebrovascular event (HR: 0.53, 95%CI:0.35-0.82) rather than MACCE and cardiac event in the total cohort. The association did not change much in patients with OSA. When the SBP and DBP were discussed separately, the SBP control of 120-139mmHg or < 120mmHg was associated with the decreased incidence of MACCE and cerebrovascular event. When DBP control < 80 mm Hg, the risk of cerebrovascular event showed 54% decrease [(HR:0.46, 95%CI: 0.25-0.88)] in patients with hypertension and OSA. CONCLUSION In this retrospective study, antihypertensive-drug-induced office and home BP control at 120-139/80-89mmHg showed possible beneficial effect on incident MACCE. However, current results need to be verified in future studies.

Abstract
Parotid tumors are among the most prevalent tumors in otolaryngology, and malignant parotid tumors are one of the main causes of facial paralysis in patients. Currently, the main diagnostic modality for parotid tumors is computed tomography, which relies mainly on the subjective judgment of clinicians and leads to practical problems such as high workloads. Therefore, to assist physicians in solving the preoperative classification problem, a stacked generalization model is proposed for the automated classification of parotid tumor images. A ResNet50 pretrained model is used for feature extraction. The first layer of the adopted stacked generalization model consists of multiple weak learners, and the results of the weak learners are integrated as input data in a meta-classifier in the second layer. The output results of the meta-classifier are the final classification results. The classification accuracy of the stacked generalization model reaches 91%. Comparing the classification results under different classifiers, the stacked generalization model used in this study can identify benign and malignant tumors in the parotid gland effectively, thus relieving physicians of tedious work pressure.

Abstract
High-altitude adaptation (HAA) was reported to be significantly associated with reduced risks for multiple cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). However, the causality and direction of the associations are largely uncharacterized. We aimed to examine the potential causal relationships between HAA and six types of CVD, including coronary artery disease (CAD), cerebral aneurysm, ischemic stroke, peripheral artery disease, arrhythmia and atrial fibrillation. We obtained the summary data from largest available genome-wide association study of HAA and six types of CVD. Two-sample bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses were performed to infer the causality between them. In the sensitivity analyses, MR-Egger regression analyses and MR-Pleiotropy RESidual Sum and Outlier (MR-PRESSO) global analyses were used to assess the pleiotropic effects; Cochran's Q tests were used to test the heterogeneity by inverse variance-weighted (IVW) and MR-Egger methods; and the leave-one-out analyses were used to examine whether some single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) could influence the results independently. The MR main analyses showed that the genetically instrumented HAA was significantly causally associated with the reduced risks of CAD (odds ratio [OR] = 0.029; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.004-0.234; P = 8.64 × 10-4). In contrast, there was no statistically significant relationship between CVDs and HAA. Our findings provide evidence for the causal effects of HAA on the reduced risks of CAD. However, there is no causality of CVDs on HAA. These findings might be helpful in developing the prevention and intervention strategies for CAD.

Abstract
Food-derived nattokinase has strong thrombolytic activity and few side effects. In the field of medicine, nattokinase has been developed as an adjuvant drug for the treatment of thrombosis, and nattokinase-rich beverages and health foods have also shown great potential in the field of food development. At present, the poor thermostability of nattokinase limits its industrial production and application. In this study, we used several thermostability-prediction algorithms to predict nattokinase from Bacillus mojavensis LY-06 (AprY), and screened two variants S33T and T174V with increased thermostability and fibrinolytic activity. The t1/2 of S33T and T174V were 8.87-fold and 2.51-fold those of the wild type AprY, respectively, and their enzyme activities were also increased (1.17-fold and 1.28-fold, respectively). Although the thermostability of N218L was increased by 2.7 times, the fibrinolytic activity of N218L was only 73.3% of that of wild type AprY. The multiple-point mutation results showed that S33T-N218L and S33T-T174V-N218L variants lost their activity, and the T174V-N218L variant did not show any significant change in catalytic performance, while S33T-T174V increased its thermostability and activity by 21.3% and 24.8%, respectively. Although the S33T-T174V variant did not show the additive effect of thermostability, it combined the excellent transient thermostability of S33T with the better thrombolytic activity of T174V. Bioinformatics analysis showed that the overall structure of S33T and T174V variants tended to be stable, while the structure of S33T-T174V variant was more flexible. Local structure analysis showed that the increased rigidity of the active center region (positions 64-75) and the key loop region (positions 129-130, 155-163, 187-192, 237-241, and 268-270) determined the increased thermostability of all variants. In addition, the enhanced flexibility of S33T-T174V variant in the Ca1 binding region (positions 1-4, 75-82) and the peripheral region of the catalytic pocket (positions 210-216) may account for the inability to superpose its thermostability. We explored the effective strategy to enhance the thermostability of nattokinase, and the resulting variants have potential industrial production and application.

Abstract
Agricultural plastic films have caused serious plastic pollution. There are many studies that consider mechanical recycling an appropriate system for the recovery of post-consumption agricultural mulch film. The recovery effect of plastic film depends on the mechanical properties, the level of dirtiness of the post-consumption film, and the recycling process itself. In this study, the mechanical properties of four types of polyethylene plastic films with a thickness of 8, 10, 12, and 10 μm, weather-resistant, commonly used in Xinjiang cotton fields, were tested. As well as the friction coefficient between the film and soil, the cotton stalk, boll shell, and leaf with different moisture contents were measured. Then, the self-propelled straw chopping and residual film recycling combined machine collected the four types of mulch films. The results showed that the longitudinal mechanical properties of the plastic film were greater than the transversal ones, with the exception of the nominal tensile strain at break, and the tensile characteristics of the mulching film covered with soil were greater than those without soil. The dynamic or static friction coefficient between the film and the contact material had a linear relationship with the moisture content of the material. During the recycling operation, the better the mechanical properties of the plastic film, the higher the pick-up rate of the mulch film. The maximum longitudinal tensile force of 12-μm plastic film was 3.42 N, and the nominal tensile strain at break was 303.09%. The pick-up rate reached more than 93% when the 12-μm plastic film was recovered in autumn, which effectively reduced the residue of plastic film coverage in the current year. Moreover, the more soil that was present on the much film, the greater the soil content of the recycled film roll, and the stalk content also increased, but the change was small. The research provides a reference for the mechanical and the friction features of agricultural plastic film in Xinjiang, and provides a theoretical basis for the formulation of standards for film thickness and mechanical properties, as well as the design and optimization of a residual film collecting machine in the cotton field.

Abstract
Background The efficacy of neutrophil elastase inhibitor sivelestat in the treatment of acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) remains controversial. A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines assess the effect of sivelestat on ALI/ARDS patients, different studies were included. Methods Electronic databases, National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wan fang data, VIP, PubMed, Embase, Springer, Ovid and the Cochrane Library were searched using the following key words: ("Sivelestat" OR "Elaspol") AND ("ARDS" OR "adult respiratory distress syndrome" OR "acute lung injury"). All databases published from January 2000 to August 2022. The treatment group was treated with sivelestat and the control group was given normal saline. The outcome measurements include the mortality of 28-30 days, mechanical ventilation time, ventilation free days, intensive care unit (ICU) stays, oxygenation index (PaO2/FiO2) on day 3, the incidence of adverse events. The literature search was conducted independently by 2 researchers using standardized methods. We used the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool to assess the quality of the included studies. Mean difference (MD), Standardized mean difference (SMD) and relative risk (RR) were calculated using random effects model or fixed effects model. All statistical analyses were performed using RevMan software 5.4. Results A total of 2050 patients were enrolled in 15 studies, including 1069 patients in treatment group and 981 patients in the control group. The results of the meta-analysis showed that: compared with the control group, sivelestat can reduce the mortality of 28-30 days (RR = 0.81, 95% CI = 0.66-0.98, p = 0.03) and the incidence of adverse events (RR = 0.91, 95% CI = 0.85-0.98, p = 0.01), shortened mechanical ventilation time (SMD = - 0.32, 95% CI = - 0.60 to - 0.04, p = 0.02) and ICU stays (SMD = - 0.72, 95% CI = - 0.92 to - 0.52, p < 0.00001), increased the ventilation free days (MD = 3.57, 95% CI = 3.42-3.73, p < 0.00001) and improve oxygenation index (PaO2/FiO2) on day 3 (SMD = 0.88, 95% CI = 0.39-1.36, p = 0.0004). Conclusions Sivelestat can not only reduce the mortality of ALI/ARDS patients within 28-30 days and the incidence of adverse events, shorten the mechanical ventilation time and ICU stays, increase ventilation free days, but also improve the oxygenation index of patients on days 3, which has a good effect on the treatment of ALI/ARDS. These findings need to be verified in large-scale trials.

Abstract
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has become a potential anti-cancer strategy owing to its negligible invasiveness, low toxicity, and high selectivity. The photosensitizer (PS) plays an indispensable role in PDT. Herein, a novel type of PS (Ce6-MB@Lips) which can be excited by a near-infrared (NIR) laser was designed and synthesized. Methylene blue (MB) and Chlorin e6 (Ce6), two organic dyes approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), were used to prepare Ce6-MB@Lips by thin-film dispersion method, which improve the water solubility of Ce6 and reduce the cytotoxicity of MB. The Ce6-MB@Lips were shown to have a spherical nanostructure with an average particle size of 160.3 nm and excellent water solubility. Then the optical properties of Ce6-MB@Lips were further studied. Ce6-MB@Lips showed absorption peaks at 413 nm/670 nm and fluorescence peak at 697 nm. Compared with Ce6@Lips and MB@Lips, Ce6-MB@Lips showed better stability, stronger fluorescence intensity, and higher singlet oxygen (1O2) generation ability. Cell experimental analysis exhibited that the stable Ce6-MB@Lips showed low cytotoxicity, high phototoxicity and high reactive oxygen species (ROS) production capacity. After effective cell internalization, the prepared Ce6-MB@Lips showed excellent ability to promote tumor cell apoptosis in vitro. The Ce6-MB@Lips could be a promising candidate for PDT of cervical cancer.

Abstract
In order to meet the contemporary concept of sustainable development, the reuse of biological waste has also been emphasized. Lots of papers nowadays study the extraction of primary residues. The disposal of secondary residues is often neglected. The chemical composition and biological activity of secondary residues of Turkish Gall (SRTG) were researched in this paper. We selected five methods to extract the SRTG, and the extraction conditions were water, hydrochloric acid buffer (pH = 2), artificial gastric juice (pH = 2), phosphate buffer (pH = 6.8), and artificial intestinal solution (pH = 6.8). The changes of phenolic components were determined by spectrophotometry and high-performance liquid chromatography. The acid-base environment did not affect total polyphenols contents and gallic acid ethyl ester contents in SRTG. But it affected the gallic acid contents in SRTG. The contents of gallic acid in the hydrochloric acid buffer extraction groups were 1.63 times that of the water extraction group. The SRTG were extracted by hydrochloric acid buffer also had better inhibition on Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. In addition, SRTG showed positive effects on 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl Free, 2,2'-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid), ·OH radicals, and Ferric ion reducing antioxidant power. Some active components of SRTG can be effectively released through the digestion of simulated gastric juices in vitro. The change of active ingredients affects the antibacterial and antioxidant capacity. The results provide data support for the conversion of secondary residues into products, such as feed additives. The SRTG has certain contributes to the value of the circular economy.

Abstract
Skp1 (S-phase kinase-associated protein 1) is the core gene of SCF ubiquitin ligase, which mediates protein degradation, thereby regulating biological processes such as cell cycle progression, transcriptional regulation, and signal transduction. A variety of plant Skp1 gene family studies have been reported. However, the almond Skp1 gene family has not yet been studied. In this study, we identified 18 members of the Prunus dulcis PdSkp1 family that were unevenly distributed across six chromosomes of the almond genome. Phylogenetic tree analysis revealed that the PdSkp1 members can be divided into three groups: I, II, and III. PdSkp1 members in each subfamily have relatively conserved motif types and exon/intron numbers. There were three pairs of fragment duplication genes and one pair of tandem repeat genes, and their functions were highly evolutionarily conserved. Transcriptome data showed that PdSkp1 is expressed in almond flower tissues, and that its expression shows significant change during cross-pollination. Fluorescence quantitative results showed that eight PdSkp1 genes had different expression levels in five tissues of almond, i.e., branches, leaves, flower buds, flesh, and cores. In addition, we cloned a PsdSSK1 gene based on PdSkp1. The cloned PsdSSK1 showed the same protein sequence as PdSkp1-12. Results of qPCR and western blot analysis showed high expression of PsdSSK1 in almond pollen. In conclusion, we report the first clone of the key gene SSK1 that controls self-incompatibility in almonds. Our research lays a foundation for future functional research on PdSkp1 members, especially for exploring the mechanism of almond self-incompatibility. Abstract
Peripheral nerve injury is one of the rare complications of adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD). We report a 20-year-old woman diagnosed with AOSD combined with severe sensory neuropathy. She presented with a sore throat, joint pain, rash, and lymphadenopathy. After receiving glucocorticoid therapy, her fever, rash, and inflammatory markers improved. Unexpectedly, 3 weeks after the onset, she experienced sudden paresthesia in her extremities, decreased muscle strength, and diminished tendon reflexes. The electrophysiological examination and peripheral nerve biopsy confirmed immune-mediated severe sensory neuropathy. For the first time, we report typical Wallerian degeneration in AOSD patients with sensory neuropathy by nerve biopsy. Compared with other common symptoms, the delayed aggravation of neurological symptoms may be an important characteristic of sensory neuropathy secondary to AOSD. We emphasize that intensive attention to neurological symptoms after general symptoms control, administration of adequate and appropriate prolonged immunosuppressive therapy, and long-term follow-up are essential for these patients.

Abstract
In summer, high light and elevated temperature are the most common abiotic stresses. The frequent occurrence of monsoon exposes the abaxial surface of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] leaves to direct solar radiation, resulting in irreversible damage to plant photosynthesis. In this study, chlorophyll a fluorescence was used to evaluate the functional status of photosystem II (PSII) in inverted leaves under elevated temperature and high light. In two consecutive growing seasons, we tested the fluorescence and gas exchange parameters of soybean leaves for 10 days and 15 days (5 days after recovery). Inverted leaves had lower tolerance compared to normal leaves and exhibited lower photosynthetic performance, quantum yield, and electron transport efficiency under combined elevated temperature and high light stress, along with a significant increase in absorption flux per reaction center (RC) and the energy dissipation of the RC, resulting in significantly lower performance indexes (PIABS and PItotal) and net photosynthetic rate (P n ) in inverted leaves. High light and elevated temperature caused irreversible membrane damage in inverted leaves, as photosynthetic performance parameters (P n , PIABS, and PItotal) did not return to control levels after inverted leaves recovered. In conclusion, inverted leaves exhibited lower photosynthetic performance and PSII activity under elevated temperature and high light stress compared to normal leaves.

Abstract
Elevated CO2 concentration [e(CO2)] often promotes plant growth with a decrease in tissue N concentration. In this study, three experiments, two under hydroponic and one in well-watered soil, including various levels or patterns of CO2, humidity, and N supply were conducted on wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) to explore the mechanisms of e[CO2]-induced N deficiency (ECIND). Under hydroponic conditions, N uptake remained constant even as transpiration was limited 40% by raising air relative humidity and only was reduced about 20% by supplying N during nighttime rather than daytime with a reduction of 85% in transpiration. Compared to ambient CO2 concentration, whether under hydroponic or well-watered soil conditions, and whether transpiration was kept stable or decreased to 12%, e[CO2] consistently led to more N uptake and higher biomass, while lower N concentration was observed in aboveground organs, especially leaves, as long as N supply was insufficient. These results show that, due to compensation caused by active uptake, N uptake can be uncoupled from water uptake under well-watered conditions, and changes in transpiration therefore do not account for ECIND. Similar or lower tissue NO 3 - -N concentration under e[CO2] indicated that NO 3 - assimilation was not limited and could therefore also be eliminated as a major cause of ECIND under our conditions. Active uptake has the potential to bridge the gap between N taken up passively and plant demand, but is limited by the energy required to drive it. Compared to ambient CO2 concentration, the increase in N uptake under e[CO2] failed to match the increase of carbohydrates, leading to N dilution in plant tissues, the apparent dominant mechanism explaining ECIND. Lower N concentration in leaves rather than roots under e[CO2] validated that ECIND was at least partially also related to changes in resource allocation, apparently to maintain root uptake activity and prevent more serious N deficiency.
