Abstract
Shrimp aquaculture has rapidly developed into a significant industry worldwide, providing not only financial gain and high-quality food but also tens of thousands of trained and competent workers. Frequent diseases are now regarded as a significant risk factor for shrimp aquaculture, as they have the potential to significantly reduce shrimp production and result in economic losses. Over the years various traditional methods including the use of antibiotics have been followed to control diseases yet unsuccessful. Probiotic is considered potential supplements for shrimps during farming, they may also act beneficially as disease control and increased production. Probiotics are described as a live microbial supplement that benefits the host by modifying the microbial population associated with the host and its ambient. The present state of research about probiotics demonstrates notable impacts on the immune defences of the host's gastrointestinal system, which play a crucial role in safeguarding against diseases and managing inflammation inside the digestive tract. In the past ten years, many studies on probiotics have been published. However, there is a lack of information about the processes by which probiotics exert their effects in aquaculture systems, with only limited elucidations being offered. This study explores the variety of procedures behind the positive effects of probiotics in shrimp culture. These mechanisms include the augmentation of the immune system, control of growth, antagonistic action against pathogens, competitive exclusion, and modification of the gut microbiota. Mechanisms involved in the probiotic mode of action are mostly interlinked. This provides a greater understanding of the importance of probiotics in shrimp culture as an environmentally friendly practice.

Abstract
This study evaluated the potential pathogenicity and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) of Vibrio species isolated from inland saline shrimp culture farms. Out of 200 Vibrio isolates obtained from 166 shrimp/water samples, 105 isolates were identified as V. parahaemolyticus and 31 isolates were identified as V. alginolyticus and V. cholerae, respectively. During PCR screening of virulence-associated genes, the presence of the tlh gene was confirmed in 70 and 19 isolates of V. parahaemolyticus and V. alginolyticus, respectively. Besides, 10 isolates of V. parahaemolyticus were also found positive for trh gene. During antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST), very high resistance to cefotaxime (93.0%), amoxiclav (90.3%), ampicillin (88.2%), and ceftazidime (73.7%) was observed in all Vibrio species. Multiple antibiotic resistance (MAR) index values of Vibrio isolates ranged from 0.00 to 0.75, with 90.1% of isolates showing resistance to ≥ 3 antibiotics. The AST and MAR patterns did not significantly vary sample-wise or Vibrio species-wise. During the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) testing of various antibiotics against Vibrio isolates, the highest MIC values were recorded for amoxiclav followed by kanamycin. These results indicated that multi-drug resistant Vibrio species could act as the reservoirs of antibiotic resistance genes in the shrimp culture environment. The limited host range of 12 previously isolated V. parahaemolyticus phages against V. parahaemolyticus isolates from this study indicated that multiple strains of V. parahaemolyticus were prevalent in inland saline shrimp culture farms. The findings of the current study emphasize that routine monitoring of emerging aquaculture areas is critical for AMR pathogen risk assessment.

Abstract
The protective effects of a phage cocktail composed of vB_Vc_SrVc2 and vB_Vc_SrVc9 were tested in Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) postlarvae, which were originally isolated from diseased shrimps and selected due to their broad-host-range properties against several pathogenic Vibsrio species. We used culture-dependent and culture-independent approaches to explore its effect on bacterial communities associated with shrimp postlarvae. Both methods revealed that the levels of Vibrio species were significantly reduced after phage cocktail administration. Phage-treated shrimp also exhibisuppted lesser damage and higher lipid accumulation in B cells of the hepatopancreas, as revealed by histopathological examination. Taken together, this study provides clear evidence that phage therapy can selectively and effectively reduce Vibrio species, thereby providing an environmentally safe alternative to the prophylactic use of antibiotics in shrimp aquaculture.

Abstract
This study explored biofloc technology for shrimp culture based on straw substrates with a size of 40 mu, 80 mu, and 120 mu. Straw substrates utilization stimulated shrimp growth compared to control. Treatment with 40 mu had the best ammonium (71.60%) and nitrite nitrogen (77.78%) removal rates generally. In all biofloc treatments, Proteobacteria (4.10-56.1%) was the most dominant phylum, followed by Bacteroidetes (2.44-38.21%), Planctomycetes (0.45-21.41%), and Verrucomicrobia (1.2-10.30%). Redundancy analysis showed that salinity was a significant factor closely related to the microbial community in biofloc. The environmental parameters (DO > pH > TN > NH4+-N > COD > Salinity > EC), nitrification, and denitrification genes (amoA > napA > nirK) were significant factors that interrelated with the bacterial genus in the network analysis. This study highlighted a novel technology of reusing agricultural waste that transformed inorganic nitrogen using nutrient recycling to control water quality in the culture system and produced microbial proteins that served as a natural nutritional supplement to enhance shrimp growth.

Abstract
In the Mekong delta, inland-based shrimp breeding requires significant inflow of high-quality freshwater. In turn, discharge of substantial loads of poor-quality effluents negatively impacts adjacent water bodies and favors disease outbreaks. This project describes the implementation of a laboratory-based continuous closed recirculation aquaculture system composed of a constructed wetland (CW) with horizontal subsurface flow as a water treatment filter for mesohaline conditions, functioning under high loading rate (HLR = 1.54 m/d with HRT = 1.31 h). This CW was equipped of successive compartment dedicated to the successive elimination of the contaminants of interests. CW performance was measured over a complete growth cycle of the White-leg shrimps (Litopenaeus vannamei). Results showed that the designed system was pertinent, improving water quality of the shrimp culture substantially. Complete removal of nitrite was attained, with a concomitant reduction of respectively 78% and 76% of nitrate and COD. Bacteria enumeration tests showed that Vibrio sp. cells were fully removed, and that a 3 Log reduction was reached in total aerobic bacteria.

Abstract
In aquaculture, the application of predictive techniques based on statistical-mathematical modeling allows not only to project and study individual growth trajectories, but also to evaluate the probable effect of external factors that would explain their behavior over time. This is the case of this work, which takes the above as a principle to demonstrate the effect of water temperature on the growth of the Pacific white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei cultured in fresh water (0 mg L-1), using densities of 90, 120, 180, 230, 280 and 330 shrimp m-2. Shrimp were exposed to water temperature between 11.5 °C and 31.6 °C. Temperature effect was determined using a parameterized Gompertz growth model with experimental data from each initial culture density. The best shrimp productivity yield was obtained above 26 °C, and the least efficient was below 22 °C. Densities of 90-180 shrimp m-2 and 230-330 shrimp m-2 generated a maximum average size of 12.6 g and 8.8 g in 30 weeks, respectively. Here we present the implications of the effect of water temperature on the intensive culture of white shrimp with zero salinity (0 mg L-1) using these techniques from a predictive analytical approach.

Abstract
The increasing prevalence of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) is a challenge to the health of humans, animals and the environments. Human activities and aquatic environments can increase ARGs. Few studies have focused on the temporal variation of aquatic bacteria with multiple ARGs in aquatic environments affected by human production activity. We studied culturable bacteria (CB) carrying ARGs, including sul1, sul2, floR, strA and gyrA in the shrimp hepatopancreas (HP) and in pond water during shrimp culture. The relative abundance of ARGs carried by CB in HP was higher than that in water (P < 0.05). However, CB carrying ARGs generally varied in random pattern. The correlation of sul2 abundance was significantly positive in HP, while that of strA abundance was significantly negative in water (P < 0.05) during shrimp culture. Among all of the CB, 33.59% carried multiple ARGs. Temporal distance-decay analysis indicated that CB carrying ARGs in water were more resistant to the effects of human activity. CB carrying ARGs varied temporally in HP and pond water during shrimp culture. These results demonstrate that multiple ARGs are carried by CB, and these varied with the phase of aquatic culture.

Abstract
Intensive shrimp farming is generally accompanied by nutrient enrichment and gradual eutrophication, which impose major threats to shrimp culture ecosystems. However, little is known about how the bacterioplankton community in a rearing environment responds to increased eutrophication during shrimp culture processes. In this study, we used the MiSeq sequencing technique to explore the impacts of nutrient enrichment on the assembly and stability of the bacterioplankton community. Our results showed that magnitudes of the changes in the bacterioplankton community compositions (BCCs) and diversity were closely associated with eutrophication level. Moreover, a phylogenetic-based mean nearest taxon distance (MNTD) analysis revealed that increased eutrophication significantly (P < 0.01) changed the bacterioplankton ecological processes from deterministic to stochastic. A structural equation model showed that eutrophication indicators affected the BCCs either directly by controlling resources or indirectly by modifying other environmental variables of the shrimp ponds in complex pathways. Furthermore, association network comparisons revealed that nutrient enrichment increased the complexity of interspecies interactions and the proportion of cooperative interactions and decreased the proportion of generalists, which suggest that nutrient enrichment destroyed the community stability. These findings suggest that minimizing nutrient pollution, especially at the end of cultivation, could be an important management tool for establishing a microbially mature water system.

Abstract
This study evaluated the suitability of 21 inland waters (16 well waters and 5 surface waters) from Northwest Mexico via short- (48 h) and medium-term (28 days) tests using postlarvae (PL18) of Litopenaeus vannamei. In the short test, survival was assessed at 48 h after shrimp were placed in groups of 10 postlarvae into 2-L containers of inland water, to which they had been previously acclimated. The second, medium-term test consisted of four replicates with 10 postlarvae, and each group was placed in 15-L containers with the treatment water. Weights (initial and final) and survival were evaluated weekly for 28 days. In those waters for which the short test was positive and the medium-term test was negative and which also had a deficiency of potassium and/or magnesium, a third test was conducted. These last waters were supplemented with salts, and the shrimp survival and weights (initial and final) were recorded for 28 days. The water samples from San Jose, Mochicahui, Sinaloa River, Caimanero inner Lagoon, La Pipima, Campo Santa Fe, Escopama, and Fitmar had >60% survival in the short test. The Caimanero inner Lagoon water had the highest survival (87.5 ± 9.6%) and final mean weight (201.3 ± 86.2 mg). In the third test, it was found that shrimp in the water from La Pipima, Campo Santa Fe, and Fitmar exhibited 100% survival for 2 weeks. Finally, in this work, a decision tree to evaluate the suitability of low-salinity water for shrimp farming was proposed, which can be applied in other regions.
