Abstract
Nitrogen (N) accumulation in landfills is a pressing environmental concern due to its diverse sources and significant environmental impacts. However, there is relatively limited attention and research focus on N in landfills as it is overshadowed by other more prominent pollutants. This study comprehensively examines the sources of N in landfills, including food waste contributing to 390 million tons of N annually, industrial discharges, and sewage treatment plant effluents. The environmental impacts of N in landfills are primarily manifested in N2O emissions and leachate with high N concentrations. To address these challenges, this study presents various mitigation and management strategies, including N2O reduction measures and novel NH4+ removal techniques, such as electrochemical technologies, membrane separation processes, algae-based process, and other advanced oxidation processes. However, a more in-depth understanding of the complexities of N cycling in landfills is required, due to the lack of long-term monitoring data and the presence of intricate interactions and feedback mechanisms. To ultimately achieve optimized N management and minimized adverse environmental impacts in landfill settings, future prospects should emphasize advancements in monitoring and modeling technologies, enhanced understanding of microbial ecology, implementation of circular economy principles, application of innovative treatment technologies, and comprehensive landfill design and planning.

Abstract
Cancer remains one of the most pressing health challenges globally, necessitating ongoing research into innovative therapeutic approaches. This article explores two critical factors influencing cancer: ncRNAs and nanotherapy. The role of ncRNAs, including microRNAs and long non-coding RNAs, in cancer pathogenesis, progression, and treatment resistance is elucidated. Additionally, the potential of nanotherapy, leveraging nanoscale materials for targeted drug delivery and enhanced therapeutic efficacy, is investigated. By comprehensively analyzing the molecular mechanisms underlying ncRNA dysregulation and the promise of nanotherapy in cancer treatment, this article aims to provide valuable insights into novel therapeutic strategies for combating cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Men with breast cancer experience unique physical and emotional challenges. However, a thorough understanding of these experiences including the psychosocial effects and supportive care needs have received less attention. In some settings, men with breast cancer experience stigma within the healthcare system and their care needs are not prioritised. This influences the level of professional support offered, consequently worsening their health and well-being outcomes. This review explored the variabilities in the experiences and treatment modalities of male breast cancer (MBC) across different contexts. METHODS All primary study designs including qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods studies that reported on the experiences, treatment approaches and outcomes of MBC were included in this systematic review. Six databases (Embase, Medline, PsycINFO, Global Health, CINAHL and Web of Science) were searched for articles from January 2000 to September 2023. A results-based convergence synthesis was used for data analysis and reported using PRISMA guidelines. RESULTS Of the studies screened (n = 29,687), forty-four fulfilled the predetermined criteria and were included. Our findings relating to the experiences and treatment approaches of MBC are broadly themed into three parts. Theme 1-Navigating through a threat to masculinity: describes how males experienced the illness reflecting on detection, diagnosis, coming to terms with breast cancer, and disclosure. Theme 2- Navigating through treatment: captures the experiences of undergoing breast cancer treatment/ management following their diagnosis. Theme 3-Coping and support systems: describes how MBC patients coped with the disease, treatment process, aftercare/rehabilitative care, and the available support structures. CONCLUSIONS Men experience a myriad of issues following a breast cancer diagnosis, especially with their masculinity. Awareness creation efforts of MBC among the public and healthcare practitioners are urgently required, which could change the perception of men in promoting early diagnosis, adherence to treatments, post-treatment monitoring, oncological results and a better quality of life. Considerations for training, education and development of specialised guidelines for healthcare practitioners on MBC would provide the necessary knowledge and skills to enhance their practice through the adoption of person-centred and male-specific care strategies. Professional care intervention and support for MBC should not end after the diagnosis phase but should extend to the entire treatment continuum and aftercare including future research focusing on MBC specific clinical trials. Abstract
BACKGROUND The MCP-1/CCR2 axis is one of the major chemokine signaling pathways that play a crucial role in the tumor microenvironment and has been involved in triggering various tumor progression mechanisms, such as increasing the immunosuppressive cells recruitment and promoting tumor cell proliferation and invasiveness. AIM The current study investigated the association of MCP1 (rs1024611) and CCR2 (rs1799864) genes variants with the risk as well as prognosis of colorectal cancer (CRC) and colorectal liver metastases (CRLM). SUBJECTS AND METHODS A retrospective cohort study involved 408 patients (284 CRC and 124 CRLM), and 284 healthy control was conducted. Genotyping of selected polymorphisms was performed by PCR-RFLP assays and confirmed by microchip and capillary electrophoresis. RESULTS The results highlighted a positive association between MCP1 rs1024611 (non-AA) and CCR2 rs1799864 (GA) genotypes with increased CRC and CRLM risk. Correlation between SNPs and clinicopathological characteristics revealed a positive association between MCP1 rs1024611 and CCR2 rs1799864 (dominant model) and CRC poor prognosis features. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis revealed a significant association between MCP1 rs1024611 non-AA carriers and decreased survival rate. Neoadjuvant treatment showed an improvement in CRC and CRLM survival rates among carriers of MCP1 and CCR2 wild-type genotype. FOLFIRI chemotherapy exhibits reduced survival rates for patients who carried mutated genotypes of MCP1 and CCR2 polymorphisms. CONCLUSION Considering our results, we suggest That both MCP1 and CCR2 polymorphisms may constitute independent factors for CRC and CRLM occurrence and can be helpful targets for an efficient therapeutic approach.

Abstract
Purpose of Review Since CRS is critically dependent on right heart function and involved in interorgan crosstalk, assessment and monitoring of both right heart and kidney function are of utmost importance for clinical outcomes. This systematic review aims to comprehensively report on novel diagnostic and therapeutic paradigms that are gaining importance for the clinical management of the growing heart failure population suffering from CRS. Recent Findings Cardiorenal syndrome (CRS) in patients with heart failure is associated with poor outcome. Although systemic venous congestion and elevated central venous pressure have been recognized as main contributors to CRS, they are often neglected in clinical practice. The delicate hemodynamic balance in CRS is particularly determined by the respective status of the right heart. Summary The consideration of hemodynamic and CRS profiles is advantageous in tailoring treatment for better preservation of renal function. Assessment and monitoring of right heart and renal function by known and emerging tools like renal Doppler ultrasonography or new biomarkers may have direct clinical implications.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION This personal narrative describes our family's struggle with my adult son's substance use disorder (SUD). Years of traditional tough love treatment programs worsened his SUD and our relationship. When he experienced drug induced psychosis and was hospitalized, I realized I needed to change my approach and understand his behaviors. METHODS I reached out to the recovery community and spoke with many individuals who had walked in my son's shoes. They described feelings of loneliness, self-loathing, and hopelessness while being on the receiving end of tough love. They further described the contrast between those negative feelings, and the life affirming hope associated with communication, empathy, and inclusion. I became inspired to research programs that are based on communication, science, and connection, rather than isolation, judgment, and punishment. RESULTS Family and community are powerful tools and can motive change. An evidence-based program called CRAFT (Community Reinforcement and Family Training) encourages relationships and teaches families skills to connect with their loved ones by effectively communicating and reinforcing positive behaviors, even in the context of unhealthy behaviors. Receiving praise for healthy behavior, recognition for good work, or even a positive acknowledgement for taking baby steps toward self-care can activate the same dopamine-producing reward system as drugs. Individuals with SUD can learn how to feel good in ways that do not involve using substances. Traditional patient-focused treatment programs, which encourage separation, punishment, and distance should not be considered the only approach to treatment. CONCLUSIONS Loved ones are not powerless. While we can't make a person change, we can contribute to making them want to change. We have more influence than we once thought possible and need to proactively seek out empirically supported family-based programs that reinforce these approaches.

Abstract
Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is a 37-amino acid neuropeptide known to be involved in the trigeminovascular system and to function as a potent vasodilator. Although it has emerged as a viable target for headache management with targeted treatments developed for migraine, a highly disabling neurovascular disorder, less is known about CGRP's role in other neurologic conditions such as traumatic brain injury and subarachnoid hemorrhage. The literature has shown that during these injury cascades, CGRP receptors are modulated in varying ways. Therefore, CGRP or its receptors might be viable targets to manage secondary injuries following acute brain injury. In this review, we highlight the pathophysiology of the CGRP pathway and its relation to migraine pathogenesis. Using these same principles, we assess the existing preclinical data for CGRP and its role in acute brain injury. The findings are promising, and set the basis for further work, with specific focus on the therapeutic benefit of CGRP modulation following neurologic injury.

Abstract
Traumatic brain injury can have devastating consequences for patients and extended hospital stays and recovery course. Recent data indicate that the initial insult causes profound changes to the immune system and leads to a pro-inflammatory state. This alteration in homeostasis predisposes patients to an increased risk of infection and underlying autoimmune conditions. Increased emphasis has been placed on understanding this process both in the clinical and preclinical literature. This review highlights the intrinsic inflammatory conditions that can occur within the initial hospital stay, discusses long-term immune consequences, highlights emerging treatment options, and delves into important pathways currently being investigated with preclinical models.

Abstract
Phenylarsonics are present as additives in animal feed in some countries. As only a small fraction of these additives is metabolized in animals, they mostly end up in the environment. A comprehensive investigation of the fate of these additives is crucial for evaluating their risks. This review aims to provide a clear understanding of the transformation mechanism of phenylarsonics in vivo and in vitro and to evaluate their fate and associated risks. Degradation of phenylarsonics releases toxic As species (mainly as inorganic arsenic (iAs)). Trivalent phenylarsonics are the metabolites or biotic degradation intermediates of phenylarsonics. The cleavage of As groups from trivalent phenylarsonics catalyzed by C-As lyase or other unknown pathways generates arsenite (As(III)). As(III) can be further oxidized to arsenate (As(V)) and methylated to methyl-arsenic species. The half-lives associated with abiotic degradation of phenylarsonics ranged from a few minutes to tens of hours, while those associated with biotic degradation ranged from several days to hundreds of days. Abiotic degradation resulted in a higher yield of iAs than biotic degradation. The use of phenylarsonics led to elevated total As and iAs levels in animal products and environmental matrices, resulting in As exposure risk to humans. The oxidation of phenylarsonics to As(V) facilitated the sorptive removal of As, which provides a general approach for treating these compounds. This review provides solid evidence that the use of phenylarsonics has adverse effects on both human health and environmental safety, and therefore, supports their withdrawal from the global market.

Abstract
The synthetic dyes used in the textile industry pollute a large amount of water. Textile dyes do not bind tightly to the fabric and are discharged as effluent into the aquatic environment. As a result, the continuous discharge of wastewater from a large number of textile industries without prior treatment has significant negative consequences on the environment and human health. Textile dyes contaminate aquatic habitats and have the potential to be toxic to aquatic organisms, which may enter the food chain. This review will discuss the effects of textile dyes on water bodies, aquatic flora, and human health. Textile dyes degrade the esthetic quality of bodies of water by increasing biochemical and chemical oxygen demand, impairing photosynthesis, inhibiting plant growth, entering the food chain, providing recalcitrance and bioaccumulation, and potentially promoting toxicity, mutagenicity, and carcinogenicity. Therefore, dye-containing wastewater should be effectively treated using eco-friendly technologies to avoid negative effects on the environment, human health, and natural water resources. This review compares the most recent technologies which are commonly used to remove dye from textile wastewater, with a focus on the advantages and drawbacks of these various approaches. This review is expected to spark great interest among the research community who wish to combat the widespread risk of toxic organic pollutants generated by the textile industries.

Abstract
Traumatic spinal cord injuries can have devastating outcomes for patients. In this focused review, we discuss the epidemiology of spinal cord injuries, associated neurologic exam findings, and primary and secondary injury progression. We then delve into the emerging treatment approaches and relevance to improving outcomes. The disease is multifactorial and has many management considerations. This concise user-friendly resource can help guide clinicians caring for these patients. Also, it points to the need for continued scientific discovery and improved pharmaceutical and device innovations.

Abstract
Multiple sclerosis is a relatively common, immune-mediated neurologic disease of the central nervous system that can cause significant disability and lead to reduced quality of life. There are several currently approved disease-modifying therapies, and more in the pipeline being developed and tested. As the field learns more about the pathophysiology and natural course of the disease, the treatment approaches are also being investigated. This article reviews data on available treatments along with a discussion of future treatment targets under investigation.

Abstract
The frontal lobe urinary control center is an important regulator of urinary function. Neurologic injury often causes damage or temporary dysfunction of this center and other related urinary control pathways. Little has been reported about this topic in the literature although a majority of neurologic injury patients suffer from some type of urinary dysfunction. In this review, we highlight what is known about urinary dysfunction based on injury type (traumatic brain injury, hemorrhagic stroke, ischemic stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, subdural hematoma, and epilepsy). We discuss both clinical and pre-clinical data and pinpoint areas warranting further investigation. In the final section, we provide proposed practice suggestions for managing these patients clinically with the intended goal for refinement in these approaches following further clinical trials.

Abstract
Distillery industries are the key contributor to the world's economy, but these are also one of the major sources of environmental pollution due to the discharge of a huge volume of dark colored wastewater. This dark colored wastewater contains very high biological oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, total solids, sulfate, phosphate, phenolics and various toxic metals. Distillery wastewater also contains a mixture of organic and inorganic pollutants such as melanoidins, di-n-octyl phthalate, di-butyl phthalate, benzenepropanoic acid and 2-hydroxysocaproic acid and toxic metals, which are well reported as genotoxic, carcinogenic, mutagenic and endocrine disrupting in nature. In aquatic resources, it causes serious environmental problems by reducing the penetration power of sunlight, photosynthetic activities and dissolved oxygen content. On other hand, in agricultural land, it causes inhibition of seed germination and depletion of vegetation by reducing the soil alkalinity and manganese availability, if discharged without adequate treatment. Thus, this review article provides a comprehensive knowledge on the distillery wastewater pollutants, various techniques used for their analysis as well as its toxicological effects on environments, human and animal health. In addition, various physico-chemicals, biological as well as emerging treatment methods have been also discussed for the protection of environment, human and animal health.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Addictive disorders form the group of the most common mental disorders. A wide range of psychotherapeutic treatment interventions exists; however, the proportion of patients receiving evidence-based interventions or psychotherapeutic treatment in outpatient care is very low. OBJECTIVE The aim of the present review was a systematic reassessment of the empirical evidence for the efficacy of the different forms of psychotherapeutic treatment, identification of new effective interventions and derivation of recommendations for treatment practitioners. MATERIAL AND METHODS A comprehensive literature search in a multistage method in the relevant national and international data banks was conducted. Subsequent analysis of topical guidelines, systematic reviews and original studies about addictions and therapy was performed. RESULTS A total of 3 topical national guidelines, 2 reviews and 16 original studies could be identified. In particular, cognitive behavioral therapy, behavioral interventions and motivational interventions could be identified as evidence-based interventions for the treatment of addictive disorders. Hypnotherapy can be recommended alternatively for patients dependent on tobacco. Also interesting for practitioners could be new treatment methods, such as neurocognitive training and mindfulness-based interventions. CONCLUSION At present, although of high quality, results from existing studies are sometimes inconsistent or are numerically insufficient with respect to special treatment options. Future studies are warranted with respect to different substance use disorders and further patient groups.

Abstract
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an inflammatory autoimmune disease of the central nervous system, which is accompanying with demyelination, neurodegeneration and sensibility to oxidative stress. In MS, auto-reactive lymphocytes cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and reside in the perivenous demyelinating lesions which create various distinct inflammatory demyelinated plaques situated predominantly in the white matter. The current MS-related therapeutic approaches can be classified into disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) and symptomatic therapy. DMTs suppress circulating immune cells, inhibit passing the BBB and decrease the inflammatory responses. Recent advances have remarkably delayed disease development and improved the quality of life for numerous patients. In spite of major improvements in therapeutic options, there are some limitations regarding the routes of administration and the necessity for repeated and long-term dosing in which cause to systemic disadvantageous consequences and patient non-compliance. Nanotechnology presents promising approaches to improve autoimmune disease treatment with the capability to overcome many of the limitations common to the current immunosuppressive and biological therapies. Here we emphasis on nanomedicine-based drug delivery approaches of biological immunomodulatory mediators for the treatment of multiple sclerosis. This comprehensive review details the most successful drugs in MS therapy and also focuses on conceptions and clinical potential of novel nanomedicine attitudes for inducing immunosuppression and immunological tolerance in MS to modulate abnormal and pathologic immune responses.

Abstract
Various types of brain tumor can occur in the region of the posterior fossa. Brain metastases in adults are the most common malignancies at this localization. Ependymomas, medulloblastomas and pilocytic astrocytomas occur mostly in children and only rarely in adults. Other tumors that occur in the posterior fossa are meningiomas, schwannomas, hemangioblastomas, brain stem gliomas and epidermoid tumors. Due to the fact that the various tumors of the posterior fossa have different treatment approaches and prognoses, an accurate and specific diagnosis is mandatory. This review discusses the imaging aspects by computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the most frequent tumors of the posterior fossa.

Abstract
Over the past 25years, about 3 dozen clinical reports have been published regarding the safety and possible efficacy of neurotrophic factors in patients with various neurodegenerative diseases. This effort involved a half dozen different neurotrophic factors, using at least 5 different general delivery approaches for ALS (amyolateral sclerosis), peripheral neuropathies, PD (Parkinson's disease) and AD (Alzheimer's disease). While none of these efforts have yet produced efficacy data sufficiently robust or reliable to establish neurotrophic factors as treatments for any human disease, the obstacles encountered and novel information reported, when viewed collectively, provide important insight to help future efforts. Three consistent themes emerge from these publications: (1) unexpected and undesirable side effects, at times serious, have plagued many efforts to deliver neurotrophic factors to humans; (2) the magnitude and consistency of clinical benefit has been disappointing; (3) by far that most consistently proposed reason for the side effects and poor efficacy has been inadequate dosing and delivery. This paper reviews and attempts to synthesize the available data derived from clinical tests of neurotrophic factors for neurodegenerative diseases. The obstacles encountered, the solutions attempted, and the lessons learned are discussed. The vast majority of solutions have involved changes in dosing paradigms and dose levels, which has primarily led to improved safety outcomes. However, lack of adequate efficacy remains a significant issue. While current efforts continue to focus exclusively on still-further changes in dosing parameters, a review of available data argues that it may now be the time to ask whether other, non-dose-related variables should be given more serious consideration as being responsible for the great divide that exists between the robust effects seen in animal models and the relatively weak effects seen in human neurodegenerative patients. Foremost among these appears to be the severe degeneration seen in the majority of patients enrolled in past and current trials testing neurotrophic factors in humans. A companion paper (Bartus and Johnson, 2016), reviews the contemporary data and concludes that compelling empirical evidence already exists for enrolling earlier-stage subjects as likely essential to achieving more robust and reliable benefit.

Abstract
This overview highlights the current hot topics in schizophrenia research. One major drawback to progress is the ability to define and focus on the right patient group. Schizophrenia is a biased and heterogeneous (group of) condition(s), the boundaries of which remain uncertain. An initiative that will focus attention away from (mere) symptoms of the illness and toward its underlying neurobiological construct(s) is the Research Domain Criteria. A preliminary analysis from a large neurobiological study suggests that 3 distinct biological phenotypes underlie the clinical expression of 1 major psychosis. A firmer neurobiologically based foundation is needed to advance this field.
