Abstract
The balance of estradiol (E2) and testosterone (T) in 15 anovulatory patients was evaluated by measuring the daily plasma concentration of E2 and T, and their free and protein-bound fractions for a 3- to 4-week period. Similar daily plasma E2 and T data were obtained from five normal ovulatory cycles as a control group. The daily concentration of the free, non-testosterone-estradiol-binding globulin (TeBG)-bound (index), and total E2 fluctuated in a wider range than that of the T in the ovulatory as well as in the anovulatory cycles. The percentage of free (%F) and TeBG-bound (%TeBG) fractions of both E2 and T were relatively constant. The concentration of the free, index, and total E2 and T showed a parallel pattern even in anovulatory cycles. An increased %F fraction associated with a decreased %TeBG fraction of E2 and T was observed in anovulatory patients who were hypo- or normoestrogenic; however, an opposite shifting of these two fractions was observed in anovulatory patients who were severely hypoestrogenic. In a hyperestrogen-normoandrogenic state, there was a significant increase in the binding of E2 and T. The daily binding capacity of plasma TeBG revealed a greater fluctuation than the binding fractions, and it decreased in anovulatory patients, especially in the hyperandrogenic state. E2:T ratio of concentration showed a curve-linear relationship to %F, %TeBG, and binding capacity of sex steroids.

Abstract
A 23-year-old phenotypic female with congenital heart disease, mental retardation and mild virilization was referred for evaluation of short stature and delayed sexual development. Endocrine studies revealed a markedly elevated serum testosterone, which was within the adult range. At laparotomy, a small uterus, normal fallopian tubes and bilateral gonadal tumors, consisting of a left gonadoblastoma and right dysgerminoma were found. Trypsin G banding of peripheral blood revealed a 45,XO, 18p+ karyotype. Q banding demonstrated intense fluorescence of the distal portion of the extra material on chromosome 18, consistent with fluorescence of Y chromosomal heterochromatin. A combination of banding techniques enabled us to determine a 45,X,t(Y;18) (p11;p11) karyotype in peripheral blood. Cultures of gonadal tissue revealed 45,X,t(Y;18)/46,XY mosaicism.

Abstract
The clastogenic activities of several commercially-dried fruits, including black and golden-seedless raisins, medium-sized California prunes, table dates, bananas, California black mission figs and breakfast apricots, were examined using Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells as the test organism and chromosome aberrations as the endpoint. Treatment of the CHO cells with water extracts of these dried fruits significantly increased the frequencies of metaphase plates with 1 chromosome break or exchange as well as the average number of chromosome exchanges per metaphase plate. A liver microsomal S9 mixture reduced this clastogenic activity. Dried fruits represent an example of widely consumed food products with strong genotoxic activities.

Abstract
Prolactin levels in amniotic fluid during the third trimester of human pregnancy showed a wide range of values. There was no apparent correlation between amniotic fluid prolactin concentrations (AF PRL) and lecithin/sphingomyelin (L/S) ratios nor was there a prolactin concentration associated with a mature L/S ratio. There was no correlation between AF PRL concentration and estimated gestational age or neonatal birth weight. In patients with diabetes mellitus (White Classes A to C), AF PRL were higher prior to 37 weeks, or when the L/S ratio was less than 2, than after 37 weeks, or when the L/S ratio was greater than 2.

Abstract
Deoxycholate can react with sodium channels with a high potency. The apparent dissociation constant for the saturable binding reaction is 2 microM at 8 degrees C, and the heat of reaction is approximately -7 kcal/mol. Four independent test with Na-free media, K-free media, tetrodotoxin, and pancuronium unequivocally indicate that it is the sodium channel that is affected by deoxycholate. Upon depolarization of the membrane, the drug modified channel exhibits a slowly activating and noninactivating sodium conductance. The kinetic pattern of the modified channel was studied by increasing deoxycholate concentration, lowering the temperature, chemical elimination of sodium inactivation, or conditioning depolarization. The slow activation of the modified channel can be represented by a single exponential function with the time constant of 1--5 ms. The modified channel is inactivated only partially with a time constant of 1 S. The reversal potential is unchanged by the drug. Observations in tail currents and the voltage dependence of activation suggest that the activation gate is actually unaffected. The apparently slow activation may reflect an interaction betweem deoxycholate and the sodium channel in resting state.

Abstract
We have characterized a small group of genes (13 loci) in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans that, when mutated, confer resistance to the potent anthelmintic levamisole. Mutants at the 7 loci conferring the most extreme resistance generally possess almost identical visible and pharmacological phenotypes: uncoordinated motor behavior, most severe in early larval life, extreme resistance to cholinergic agonists and sensitivity to hypo-osmotic shock. Mutants with exceptional phenotypes suggest possible functions for several of the resistance loci. The most extreme mutants can readily be selected by their drug resistance (211 mutants, as many as 74 alleles of one gene). The more common resistance loci are likely to be unessential genes, while loci identified by only a few alleles may be essential genes or genes conferring resistance only when mutated in a special way. We propose that these mutants represent a favorable system for understanding how a small group of related genes function in a simple animal. The extreme drug resistance of these mutants makes them useful tools for the genetic manipulation of C. elegans. And, as the most resistant class of mutants might lack pharmacologically functional acetyl-choline receptors (LEWIS et al. 1980), these mutants may also be of some neurobiological significance.

Abstract
An outbreak of Citrobacter diversus infections occurred in a newborn nursery at a 350-bed community hospital during September and October 1978. Two infants developed sepsis and meningitis and nine additional infants had asymptomatic umbilical colonization. These infants did not differ from control, noncolonized infants with respect to numerous clinical and environmental variables. Surveillance cultures failed to implicate an environmental source for the Citrobacter. However, cultures of nursery personnel identified a hand-carrier whose removal eliminated neonatal colonization with C diversus and decreased the number of isolates of certain other enteric bacteria found on umbilical stumps. Factors implicated in the perpetuation of the carrier state in this nurse included marked dermatitis from repeated hand washing and hand care practices involving the overnight use of plastic gloves and nutritive hand cream. The mode of transmission within the nursery appeared to be from nurse's hands to infant's umbilicus. Use of triple dye on umbilical stumps and chlorhexidine hand washing preparations did not eliminate this cycle. Surgical manipulation of colonized umbilical stumps may have been responsible for illness in two infants.

Abstract
Paragracine, isolated from the coelenterate species Parazoanthus gracilis, selectively blocks sodium channels of squid axon membranes in a frequency-dependent manner. The blocking action depends on the direction and magnitude of the sodium current rather than on the absolute value of the membrane potential. Paragracine blocks the channels only from the axoplasmic side and does so only when the current is in the outward direction. This block may be reversed by generating inward sodium currents. In axons in which sodium inactivation has been removed by pronase, the frequency-dependent block persists, and a slow time-dependent block is observed. A slow interaction with its binding site in the channel may account for the frequency-dependent block.

Abstract
An indirect immunofluorescent method for localizing specific types of collagen was applied to unfixed cryostat sections of autopsy and biopsy specimens of normal and fibrotic human livers. Monospecific antibodies to Types I, III, and B collagens were raised in goats by injecting collagens extracted from normal and fibrotic human livers. The antibody against B collagen stained the delicate sinusoidal meshwork within the lobule that closely paralleled in distribution the staining of reticulin fibers as seen in classical silver preparations. Antibody to Type III collagen stained at the sinusoidal aspect of the hepatocytes in a pattern similar to anti-B antibody. All three antibodies tested strongly stained the portal tracts and the fibrotic bands in specimens with cirrhosis. These observations indicate that reticulin fibers within the liver lobule contain both Type III and Type B collagen.

Abstract
Random blood samples were obtained from 114 women with history of diethylstilbestrol (DES) exposure in utero and were analyzed for follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estrone (E1), estradiol (E2), androstenedione (A), testosterone (T), and progesterone (P) by respective radioimmunoassays. Colposcopic examinations of the lower genital tract and biopsies of suspicious areas of vaginal mucosa were performed in every patient. The mean age of these patients was 21.6 +/- 0.3 years (mean +/- SE) and mean age of menarche was 12.6 +/- 1.0 years. The incidence of irregular menses was 16.7%. A positive colposcopic finding was observed in 73.7% of all patients, 69.5% of patients with regular menses, and 94.7% of patients with irregular menses. Histologically confirmed vaginal adenosis was found in 43% of all patients, 46.3% of patients with regular menses, and 42.1% of patients with irregular menses. No significant differences were observed between DES-exposed versus unexposed females with regular menses in all hormones except testosterone. An elevated testosterone level was noted in postovulatory and perimenstrual phases of DES-exposed females. Elevated testosterone was also observed in DES-exposed females with irregular menses. Cross-analysis of hormone levels among the patients with lower genital tract pathology failed to show any statistical differences.

Abstract
A specific collagenase (EC 3.4.24.3) has been found and purified from serum-free culture medium of 11095 epidermoid carcinoma of rat prostate. The molecular weight of this collagenase was estimated at 71 000 and the pH optimum was approx. 7. At 26 degrees C, the collagenase cleaved collagen at a site 3/4 the length from the N-terminus. At 37 degrees C, this collagenase degraded collagen to smaller peptides. The enzyme activity was inhibited by serum, cysteine and EDTA, but not by protease inhibitors. The presence of collagenase in rat tumor tissue suggests that this enzyme might play a significant role in tissue invasion by cancer cells.

Abstract
Daily plasma prolactin levels were measured in women with various gynecologic endocrinopathies in order to compare mean levels and variations over the sampling interval with prolactin levels in women with normal ovulatory cycles. The normal-cycle mean prolactin level was 14.7 ng/ml +/- 1.4 (SE). Levels greater than 42 ng/ml, 2 SD above the mean, were considered abnormal. Patients with endocrinopathies were classified as "normoprolactinemic" if the mean prolactin level was less than 42 ng/ml and less than 12% of the daily values peaked to greater than 42 ng/ml. An "intermediate" group was defined in which the mean prolactin level was less than 42 ng/ml but more than 12% of daily values peaked to greater than 42 ng/ml. Those patients whose mean prolactin levels were greater than 42 ng/ml were considered "hyperprolactinemic". Significant differences were noted when mean prolactin levels were compared with normal-cycle levels in 16 or 18 women with various gynecologic endocrinopathies. The need for repeated prolactin sampling in certain clinical situations, as well as the possibility that a "critical" prolactin level is necessary for normal ovarian function, is discussed.

Abstract
Ninety-seven amniotic fluid (AF) specimens, 67 with male fetuses and 30 with female fetuses, were obtained by amniocentesis at 14 to 18 weeks of gestation for analysis of free and protein-bound estrone (E1), estradiol (E2), androstenedione (A), testosterone (T), and progesterone (P). Ten maternal plasma (MP) samples of comparable gestational age were analyzed for the same free and protein-bound steroids. Significantly lower total E1, E2, A, and T, but not P, levels were found in AF when compared to MP. The percentage of free steroids was higher in AF than in MP, while the percentage of specific protein-bound steroids was lower in the AF than in MP. Free (unbound) steroid levels of E1 and P were higher in AF than in MP, whereas levels of E2 were lower in AF than in MP. The free A and T levels in MP were lower than in AF with male fetuses, yet higher than in AF with female fetuses. Possible biologic activity of steroids in this fluid may depend on the dynamic balance between the free, the specific protein-bound, and the nonspecific protein-bound steroids.

Abstract
Daily plasma hormones, including luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), estrone (E1), estradiol (E2), progesterone, androstenedione, and testosterone (T), were measured in 16 anovulatory patients for a span of 3 to 4 weeks. The clinical diagnoses in this group of patients included the following: anovulation-eumenorrhea (n = 5), anovulation-polymenorrhea (n = 1), anovulation-oligomenorrhea (n = 3), congenital adrenal hyperplasia (n = 1), polycystic ovarian disease (n = 4), severe hypothalamic amenorrhea (n = 1), and postpartum amenorrhea-galactorrhea (n = 1). Follicular activity was evident in polymenorrheic and oligomenorrheic patients, and menstruation occurred in these patients following estrogen withdrawal. No follicular maturation was noted in the group of patients with anovulation-eumenorrhea, and menstruation in these patients was considered breakthrough bleeding. Low FSH levels were observed in anovulatory patients with eumenorrhea, polymenorrhea, and oligomenorrhea. Significantly high LH values were noted in both classic and non-classic polycystic ovarian disease. Extremely low E1 and E2 levels were found in patients with severe hypothalamic amenorrhea and postpartum amenorrhea-galactorrhea. Slightly elevated progesterone levels were observed in polymenorrheic and oligomenorrheic patients prior to menstruation; this was frequently associated with an LH surge or elevation. Elevated T levels were consistently associated with hirsutism but not with obesity.

Abstract
The plasma hormonal patterns of the normal menstrual cycle have been reviewed. A consistent cyclic pattern of plasma hormone levels is observed in LH, FSH, estrogens, and progestins in the menstrual cycle. Other plasma hormones, such as ACTH, growth hormone, TSH, and PRL, as well as androgens and corticosteroids, fluctuate throughout the menstrual cycle without any consistent pattern during the ovulatory cycle. FSH, LH, E2, E1, P, T, and A levels during the induced ovulatory cycle are presneted for comparison. In the gonadotropin-induced ovulatory cycle most hormones behave in a manner similar to that in the normal ovulatory cycle, except for FSH levels, which rise continuously throughout the follicular phase of the cycle. Following ovulation in the gonadotropin-induced cycle, T rises above normal levels. Early in the clomiphene-induced ovulatory cycle, unlike the normal cycle, LH is distinctly elevated. Levels of both LH and FSH in the rest of the cycle simulate those in the normal cycle. However, T and A levels rise from the very beginning of clomiphene therapy and continue to rise throughout the clomiphene-induced ovulatory cycle. Levels of E and P are higher than in the normal ovulatory cycle, but a similar pattern is preserved. Because of the potential dangers of gonadotropin therapy, monitoring by frequent examination and laboratory tests is required. E monitoring is mandatory to evaluate follicular maturation, to time hCG administration, and to minimize hyperstimulation. Cervical mucus is an unreliable parameter for monitoring gonadotropin therapy alone. In addition to cervical mucus, plasma or urinary E should be monitored regularly. Clomiphene therapy is less dangerous than gonadotropin therapy. Because of its lesser risk, monitoring is rarely performed during clomiphene use. An active monitoring approach has been described. While this approach may not necessarily improve the outcome of clomiphene therapy, it may hasten the process of selecting the appropriate dose. Although other ovulation-inducing agents are available, their use is rarely associated with serious medical complications, and monitoring would seem unnecessary.

Abstract
The group-specific protein reagents, N-bromacetamide (NBA) and N-bromosuccinimide (NBS), modify sodium channel gating when perfused inside squid axons. The normal fast inactivation of sodium channels is irreversibly destroyed by 1 mM NBA or NBS near neutral pH. NBA apparently exhibits an all-or-none destruction of the inactivation process at the single channel level in a manner similar to internal perfusion of Pronase. Despite the complete removal of inactivation by NBA, the voltage-dependent activation of sodium channels remains unaltered as determined by (a) sodium current turn-on kinetics, (b) sodium tail current kinetics, (c) voltage dependence of steady-state activation, and (d) sensitivity of sodium channels to external calcium concentration. NBA and NBS, which can cleave peptide bonds only at tryptophan, tyrosine, or histidine residues and can oxidize sulfur-containing amino acids, were directly compared with regard to effects on sodium inactivation to several other reagents exhibiting overlapping protein reactivity spectra. N-acetylimidazole, a tyrosine-specific reagent, was the only other compound examined capable of partially mimicking NBA. Our results are consistent with recent models of sodium inactivation and support the involvement of a tyrosine residue in the inactivation gating structure of the sodium channel.

Abstract
Daily plasma follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estrone (E1), estradiol-17beta (E2), progesterone (P), androstenedione (A), and testosterone (T) were measured in six clomiphene citrate (Clomid) treated cycles. Three patients ovulated and 1 of them conceived during the study cycle. Three other patients failed to ovulate in spite of some evidence of ovarian response to clomiphene treatment in 2 of them. Plasma gonadotropin levels, of LH in particular, rose during the clomiphene therapy and reached a peak during Day 5 to Day 7 of therapy. Levels of plasma estrogens, both E1 and E2, gradually rose, reflecting follicular maturation in the ovary. When E2 reached a critical level as in the normal ovulatory cycle, it triggered an LH surge which consequently initiated ovulation. When the E2 level was inadequate or excessive, ovulation failed in spite of an LH surge. Following ovulation, plasma P rose and fell in a manner similar to the normal ovulatory cycle, with occasional values that exceeded the normal range. Levels of androgens, both A and T, rose during clomiphene therapy in some cases and T seemed to fluctuate in correlation with LH level. The possible local inhibitory influence of high E2 and T levels on follicular maturation in the ovary during clomiphene therapy is suspected in some cycles in which ovarian response was evident, but ovulation failed to occur.

Abstract
Plasma follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estrone (E1), estradiol-17beta(E2), progesterone (P), androstenedione (A), and testosterone (T) were analyzed in daily plasma samples of seven cycles of human menopausal gonadotropin (hMG)-human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) induced ovulation. Plasma FSH rose gradually and remained at a higher level (20 to 30 mlU/ml) during hMG injection while LH stayed at a low tonic level. The FSH/LH ratio of plasma gonadotropins was consistently higher than 1 in spite of injecting an hMG preparation with FSH/LH ratio of 1. A pharmacologically induced high RSH/LH ratio in the late follicular phase is contradictory to the low ratio seen in the normal ovulatory cycle. This may be one of the causes of multiple follicular maturation and ovulation frequently encountered in the hMG-hCG induced ovulation. Higher than normal levels of plasma progesterone commonly seen in the hMG-hCG induced cycle is attributed to the multiple ovulation. Plasma androgen levels, both A and T, in these therapy cycles stayed consistently within normal range. This is a strong contrast to the clomiphene induced cycle in which A and T were frequently elevated in parallel with elevated LH. No significant differences in plasma hormones were observed between the pregnant and nonpregnant patient following hMG-hCG induced ovulation. A consistent and similar ovarian response to hMG-hCG was noted in 1 individual who had 3 consecutive therapy cycles studied. The plasma hormone levels in the multiple ovulation did not show a significant difference from those in the single ovulation with the exception of a higher plasma P level in the former.

Abstract
Aminopyridines (2-AP, 3-AP, and 4-AP) selectively block K channels of squid axon membranes in a manner dependent upon the membrane potential and the duration and frequency of voltage clamp pulses. They are effective when applied to either the internal or the external membrane surface. The steady-state block of K channels by aminopyridines is more complete for low depolarizations, and is gradually relieved at higher depolarizations. The K current in the presence of aminopyridines rises more slowly than in control, the change being more conspicuous in 3-AP and 4-AP than in 2-AP. Repetitive pulsing relieves the block in a manner dependent upon the duration and interval of pulses. The recovery from block during a given test pulse is enhanced by increasing the duration of a conditioning depolarizing prepulse. The time constant for this recovery is in the range of 10-20 ms in 3-AP and 4-AP, and shorter in 2-AP. Twin pulse experiments with variable pulse intervals have revealed that the time course for re-establishment of block is much slower in 3-AP and 4-AP than in 2-AP. These results suggest that 2-AP interacts with the K channel more rapidly than 3-AP and 4-AP. The more rapid interaction of 2-AP with K channels is reflected in the kinetics of K current which is faster than that observed in 3-AP or 4-AP, and in the pattern of frequency-dependent block which is different from that in 3-AP or 4-AP. The experimental observations are not satisfactorily described by alterations of Hodgkin-Huxley n-type gating units. Rather, the data are consistent with a simple binding scheme incorporating no changes in gating kinetics which conceives of aminopyridine molecules binding to closed K channels and being released from open channels in a voltage-dependent manner.

Abstract
Methods are described for the measurement of the estradiol-binding capacity of TeBG and of the free, TeBG-bound, and non-specifically protein-bound fractions of plasma estradiol. Each determination used undiluted plasma at 37 C, and a total volume of less than 2.0 ml of plasma was required to complete all the assays. The measurement of the per cent of free estradiol was affected by changes in plasma dilution. The measurement of the other fractions of estradiol was not influenced by changes in either the dilution or the volume of plasma. The distribution of plasma estradiol was determined daily throughout 5 individual menstrual cycles. The per cent of free, the per cent of TeBG-bound, and the TeBG binding capacity of estradiol remained constant throughout the cycle with mean values of 2.21 +/- 0.04% (SE), 38.4 +/- 0.7%, and 16.6 +/- 0.43 ng/ml, respectively. The mean association constant of TeBG for estradiol was 6.58 +/- 0.25 x 10(7)M-1. The concentration of the free and non-specifically protein-bound fractions of estradiol paralleled the total plasma concentration of estradiol. The results show that biologic events related to normal cyclic changes of plasma estradiol may be attributed to fluctuations in the free estradiol and to estradiol which is bound with low affinity to non-specific plasma proteins.

Abstract
Trihexyphenidyl and benztropine have potent local anesthetic action on squid axon membranes. They suppress the peak transient sodium conductance with ED50 values equal to 1.75 X 10(-4) AND 0.78 X 10(-4) M, respectively, and shift the sodium condu-tance curve along the potential axis in the direction of depolarization by 2.3 and 8.7 mV, respectively. The time for the sodium current to attain its peak is shortened. Steady-state potassium conductance is also suppressed by these drugs and undergoes an inactivation which has a potential-dependence characteristic. The local anesthetic action combined with the anticholinergic action may warrant further study of these two drugs, especially trihexyphenidyl, as a potential antiarrhythmic agent.

Abstract
The effects of aminopyridines on ionic conductances of the squid giant axon membrane were examined using voltage clamp and internal perfusion techniques. 4-Aminopyridine (4-AP) reduced potassium currents, but had no effect upon transient sodium currents. The block of potassium channels by 4-AP was substantially less with (a) strong depolarization to positive membrane potentials, (b) increasing the duration of a given depolarizing step, and (c) increasing the frequency of step depolarizations. Experiments with high external potassium concentrations revealed that the effect of 4-AP was independent of the direction of potassium ion movement. Both 3- and 2-aminopyridine were indistinguishable from 4-AP except in potency. It is concluded that aminopyrimidines may be used as tools to block the potassium conductance in excitable membranes, but only within certain specific voltage and frequency limits.

Abstract
Virilizing granulosa cell tumors are uncommon and have not been well studied hormonally. A hirsute woman with a cystic granulosa cell tumor of the ovary is presented. Plasma hormone levles obtained before and after surgery indicate testosterone production by the tumor with LH and FSH suppression. Plasma testosterone (T) and T-index returned to normal after tumor removal, and ovulation resumed.

Abstract
Eight hMG-hCG therapy cycles in 6 anovulatory infertile patients are presented. Daily plasma estrogen monitoring during the therapy contributed to success in inducing ovulation in all 6, 3 of whom established pregnancies and delivered healthy babies. The duration of hMG therapy required varies among individuals. Duration and dosage can be determined on the basis of daily plasma estrogen levels. Administration hCG is recommended to trigger ovulation when these levels reach 300 to 600 pg/ml. Although success in ovulation induction and pregnancy is achievable, multiple ovulation and multiple pregnancy cannot be predicted or prevented.

Abstract
Kinetic studies of the very-low-density lipoprotein triglycerides (VLDL-TG) turnover by endogenous labeling with glycerol-2-3-H were performed in 13 patients in the postabsorptive state, first after 10-14 days on a low-sucrose high-starch diet, then again after 10-14 days of isocaloric high-sucrose low-starch diet (HSD). After HSD, a significant decrease in the fractional turnover rates of VLDL-TG was observed, as well as a modest but significant increase in its pool size, but the net turnover rates remained unchanged. Using Michaelis-Menten formulation, we have further calculated the Vmax and Km's of the removal system for VLDL-TG and found that the Vmax and Km's do not differ significantly between the two dietary periods. These results suggest that the removal mechanism for VLDL-TG has not changed after 10-14 days on the HSD, at least when the patients are studied in the postabsorptive state. Measurements of postheparin lipolytic acitivty under fed condition in 17 patients (including the 13 patients above) have shown a decrease after HSD. However, a defect in the removal of plasma-TG related to decreased activity of tissue-lipoprotein lipase in the fed state has not been conclusively uncovered by the kinetic studies performed in the postabsorptive state, and cannot contribute significantly to the expansion of VLDL-TG pool.

Abstract
During a 6-month course of treatment of endometriosis with Danazol, a synthetic derivative of 17alpha-ethinyl testosterone, the following hormonal changes were found. Plasma LH remained essentially unchanged but FSH concentration was consistently in the low normal range. Plasma estradiol, especially after the fourth week of therapy, dropped to levels that did not exceed 30 pg/ml throughout the 6-month period of therapy. Plasma progesterone concentration was consistent with follicular phase levels. In the months after discontinuation of Danazol, all hormone parameters were strongly suggestive of normal ovulatory cycles. Danazol did not displace estradiol bound by endometrial cytosol.
