Abstract
BACKGROUND To explore the risk factors of post pancreatectomy diabetes mellitus (PPTDM)in pancreatic ductal carcinoma (PDAC) patients and the value of perioperative fasting blood glucose (FBG) level expression on the long-term survival after surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS Between December 2015 and December 2019, a cohort of 509 patients diagnosed with PDAC and undergoing resection at our hospital was analyzed. They were stratified into two groups, Control group (Control) and study group (PPTDM), depending on the onset of postoperative diabetes mellitus. We analyzed the survival rates at 6 months, 12 months and 24 months post-operation in the two groups. We use univariate and logostic multivariate regressions to analyze the risk factors for PPTDM. ROC curve analysis was conducted to assess the diagnostic significance of perioperative FBG levels regarding patients' long-term survival rates. The Kaplan-Meier method was employed to assess the impact of both preoperative and postoperative FBG levels on the survival rates within 24 months for each patient group. RESULTS The comparison of general clinical data between the two groups shows marginal differences without statistical significance(P > 0.05); Patients in PPTDM group had significantly higher BMI, preoperative jaundice proportion, larger tumor diameter, higher TNM stage and higher proportion of distal pancreatectomy (DP), with P values of 0.023, 0.010, 0.040, 0.012 and 0.005, respectively. The levels of preoperative FBG and postoperative FBG in PPTDM patients exhibited statistically significant elevation compared to the control group (P < 0.05). There were no significant differences in surgery-related indicators between the two groups in operative time, number of dissected positive lymph nodes, total number of dissected lymph nodes, intraoperative blood loss and other related data (P > 0.05). Hospitalization duration of PPTDM patients was longer than control group (P = 0.047). PPTDM group had significantly higher expression concentrations of BUN, Cr, TG, LDL and Apo-B factors (P = 0.023, 0.024, 0.013, 0.045 and 0.017). 17 patients (5.03%) died in the PPTDM group and 4 patients (2.35%) in control group which had significantly difference (P = 0.020). In univariate and logostic multivariate regression analysis indicated tumor size, jaundice, BUN, Cr, TG, LDL, Apo-B concentrations and DP approach were significantly correlated to the risk for PPTDM (P < 0.05). ROC curve analysis results showed combining of preoperative and postoperation FBG showed the highest diagnostic efficacy, followed by postoperation FBG and preoperative FBG. The AUC areas of the three groups were 0.745, 0.623 and 0.588, respectively, and the critical values of the three groups were 9.81/9.95 mmol/L, 10.18 mmol/L and 10.23 mmol/L, respectively, with statistical significance (P < 0.05). Results were considered statistically significant if the p-value was less than 0.05. CONCLUSION PPTDM stands as a significant postoperative complication following pancreatic cancer surgery, characterized by a high incidence and severity. Several risk factors have garnered considerable attention among clinical surgeon. PPTDM may be an influential factor in postoperative prognosis of pancreatic cancer. The expression levels of preoperative and postoperative blood glucose hold diagnostic value for the long-term prognosis of pancreatic cancer patients. Early regulation and intervention by surgeons concerning perioperative FBG could potentially mitigate the risk of PPTDM.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Cerebrovascular disease (CVD) poses a substantial risk for depression. Elevated levels of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) serve not only as an independent predictive factor for acute cerebrovascular events and unfavorable prognoses but also as a significant predictor of depression in premenopausal women. Nevertheless, the association between elevated ALP levels and vascular depression (VDe) in patients presenting with white matter hyperintensities (WMHs) remains unclear. METHOD In a cross-sectional survey, 265 individuals diagnosed with CVD were incorporated. Baseline demographic information, fasting blood parameters, and MRI data were systematically gathered for analysis. All patients were divided into a severe WMHs (sWMHs) group and a mild WMHs (mWMHs) group based on their Fazekas score. Univariate analysis of potential variables among different subgroups of patients with scores of Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAMD) was performed. Subsequently, the diagnostic effectiveness of multivariables for positive VDe within two WMHs groups was assessed using binary logistic regression. The diagnostic capability of the multivariate approach for VDe was further scrutinized through ordinal logistic regression. RESULTS (1) Hypersensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP, p = 0.031), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C, p = 0.038), apolipoprotein A1 (APOA1, p = 0.009), and ALP (p = 0.011) exhibited distinct expression in patients with mWMHs across varying HAMD scores. In contrast, erythrocyte counts (p = 0.024), hemoglobin (Hb, p = 0.011), hs-CRP (p = 0.002), and ALP (p = 0.021) displayed differential expression in patients with sWMHs across different HAMD scores. (2) ALP and hs-CRP combined with APOA1 or Hb can improve the diagnostic efficiency of positive VDe in sWMHs [AUC = 0.849, 95% CI (0.753, 0.946), p < 0.001] or mWMHs [AUC = 0.718, 95% CI (0.603, 0.834), p = 0.002] patients, respectively. (3) Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) [OR = 1.016, 95% CI (1.003, 1.028), p = 0.016] is correlated with VDe in patients with sWMHs, a relationship that persisted even following adjustments for age and sex. CONCLUSION The amalgamation of multiple markers enhances the diagnostic efficacy of VDe through WMHs classification. Serum ALP is associated with VDe in sWMHs patients.

Abstract
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, progressive demyelinating disease with a most likely autoimmune background and a neurodegenerative component. Besides the demyelinating process caused by autoreactive antibodies, an increased permeability in the blood-brain barrier (BBB) also plays a key role. Recently, there has been growing interest in assessing lipid profile alterations in patients with MS. As a result of myelin destruction, there is an increase in the level of cholesterol released from cells, which in turn causes disruptions in lipid metabolism homeostasis both in the central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral tissues. Currently, there is a growing body of evidence suggesting a protective role of HDL in MS through its effect on the BBB by decreasing its permeability. This follows from the impact of HDL on the endothelium and its anti-inflammatory effect, mostly by interacting with adhesion molecules like vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1), intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1), and E-selectin. HDL, through its action via sphingosine-1-phosphate, exerts an inhibitory effect on leukocyte migration, and its antioxidant properties contribute to the improvement of the BBB function. In this review, we want to summarize these studies and focus on HDL as a mediator of the anti-inflammatory response in MS.

Abstract
This study determined the associations of apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and HDL-C/ApoA1 ratio with fasting blood glucose (FBG) and evaluated the mediating effects of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) and body mass index (BMI). A cross-sectional study with 4805 coronary artery disease (CAD) patients was performed. In multivariable analyses, higher ApoA1, HDL-C, and HDL-C/ApoA1 ratio were associated with significantly lower FBG level (Q [quartile] 4 vs Q1: 5.67 vs 5.87 mmol/L for ApoA1; 5.64 vs 5.98 mmol/L for HDL-C; 5.63 vs 6.01 mmol/L for HDL-C/ApoA1 ratio). Moreover, inverse associations of ApoA1, HDL-C, and HDL-C/ApoA1 ratio with abnormal FBG (AFBG) were found with odd ratios (95% confidence interval) of .83 (.70-.98), .60 (.50-.71), and .53 (.45-.64) in Q4 compared with Q1. Path analyses indicated that "ApoA1 (or HDL-C)-FBG" associations were mediated by hsCRP and "HDL-C-FBG" association was mediated by BMI. Our data suggested that higher ApoA1, HDL-C, and HDL-C/ApoA1 ratio were favorably associated with a lower FBG level in CAD patients and these associations might be mediated by hsCRP or BMI. Collectively, higher concentrations of ApoA1, HDL-C, and HDL-C/ApoA1 ratio might decrease the risk of AFBG.

Abstract
Our previous study suggested that the Mono-ADP ribosylhydrolase 2 (MACROD2) rs6110695 A>G polymorphism is significantly associated with white blood cell (WBC) count in the Korean population. The present study aimed to evaluate the clinical relevance of the MACROD2 rs6110695 A>G polymorphism for predicting WBC count by utilizing plasma metabolites and a single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP). Two groups were characterized by MACROD2 rs6110695 A>G SNP genotypes among 139 healthy subjects based on the genetic information provided in our previous work: rs6110695 AA genotype group (n = 129) and rs6110695 AG genotype group (n = 10). Plasma global metabolic profiling was performed using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS). To estimate the predictive abilities of WBC count models using the rs6110695 genotype and/or significant differential metabolites, multiple linear regression analysis and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis were conducted. The AG genotype had greater WBC-to-apolipoprotein (apo) A-I ratios; counts of WBCs, lymphocytes, monocytes, and granulocytes; monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR); and monocyte-to-platelet ratio (MPR) than the AA genotype. In terms of metabolic profile, indoleacetic acid, and butyrylcarnitine levels were considerably distinct between the two groups, and these metabolites were considered to be meaningful prognostic variables for the rs6110695 genotype. Finally, ROC curve analysis demonstrated that the model containing the rs6110695 genotype and the two main metabolites was reliable. The present study revealed that individuals carrying the rs6110695 AG genotype with high plasma indoleacrylic acid and butyrylcarnitine levels might have elevated WBC counts. The rs6110695 genotype and the concentrations of indoleacrylic acid and butyrylcarnitine could contribute to reducing the risk of chronic diseases in the future.

Abstract
BACKGROUND So far, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels and mortality were shown to have a U-shaped relationship. Additionally, high HDL-C levels increase the risk of developing a variety of diseases. However, a paucity of data exists regarding the characteristics of people with high HDL-C levels. The aim of this study was to assess the demographics and characteristics of patients with high HDL-C levels and compare their features with normal and low HDL-C groups. METHODS As a cross-sectional, matched case-control study, a total of 510 patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) were enrolled in the study and categorized into three matched groups according to their HDL-C concentrations. The studied groups were matched by their age and gender. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) curves were designed to evaluate the relationship between height, blood pressure, triglyceride, and vitamin D concentrations with the probability of having high HDL-C levels. Furthermore, violin plots were conducted to illustrate the distribution of continuous variables within each group. RESULTS This study showed that having high HDL-C (more than 70 mg/dL) compared to having low HDL-C (less than 40 mg/dL in men and 50 mg/dL in women) was significantly associated with height (OR 0.918, 95% CI 0.866-0.974), systolic blood pressure (SBP) (0.941, 0.910-0.972), vitamin D (0.970, 0.941-0.999), and triglyceride (0.992, 0.987-0.998) serum concentrations. Further analysis investigated that having high HDL-C levels compared to desired HDL-C levels (40 ≤ HDL-C levels < 70 in men and 50 ≤ HDL-C levels < 70 in women) was inversely associated with having SPB values greater than 130 mmHg. Besides, sufficient vitamin D levels (above 20 ng/ml) could 0.349 times decrease the odds of having high HDL-C versus normal HDL-C levels. CONCLUSION Sufficient vitamin D levels, SPB values higher than 130 mmHg, as well as increased triglyceride levels, were inversely associated with having high HDL levels. However, higher height values were associated with a decreased likelihood of having high HDL.

Abstract
Several studies in animal models and human cohorts have recently suggested that HDLs (high-density lipoproteins) not only modulate innate immune responses but also adaptative immune responses, particularly CD4+ T cells. CD4+ T cells are central effectors and regulators of the adaptive immune system, and any alterations in their homeostasis contribute to the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases, autoimmunity, and inflammatory diseases. In this review, we focus on how HDLs and their components affect CD4+ T-cell homeostasis by modulating cholesterol efflux, immune synapsis, proliferation, differentiation, oxidative stress, and apoptosis. While the effects of apoB-containing lipoproteins on T cells have been relatively well established, this review focuses specifically on new connections between HDL and CD4+ T cells. We present a model where HDL may modulate T cells through both direct and indirect mechanisms.

Abstract
Mostly, cardiovascular diseases are blamed for casualties in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. Customarily, dyslipidemia is probably the most prevalent underlying cause of untimely demise in people suffering from RA as it hastens the expansion of atherosclerosis. The engagement of inflammatory cytokines like tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1 (IL-1), interleukin-6 (IL-6), etc., is crucial in the progression and proliferation of both RA and abnormal lipid parameters. Thus, lipid abnormalities should be monitored frequently in patients with both primary and advanced RA stages. An advanced lipid profile examination, i.e., direct role of apolipoproteins associated with various lipid molecules is a more dependable approach for better understanding of the disease and selecting suitable therapeutic targets. Therefore, studying their apolipoproteins is more relevant than assessing RA patients' altered lipid profile levels. Among the various apolipoprotein classes, Apo A1 and Apo B are primarily being focused. In addition, it also addresses how calculating Apo B:Apo A1 ratio can aid in analyzing the disease's risk. The marketed therapies available to control lipid abnormalities are associated with many other risk factors. Hence, directly targeting Apo A1 and Apo B would provide a better and safer option.

Abstract
Research into aging has grown substantially with the creation of molecular biomarkers of biological age that can be used to determine age acceleration. Concurrently, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) assessment of biomarkers of inflammation and metabolism provides researchers with new ways to examine intermediate risk factors for chronic disease. We used data from a cardiac catheterization cohort to examine associations between biomarkers of cardiometabolic health and accelerated aging assessed using both gene expression (Transcriptomic Age) and DNA methylation (Hannum Age, GrimAge, Horvath Age, and Phenotypic Age). Linear regression models were used to associate accelerated aging with each outcome (cardiometabolic health biomarkers) while adjusting for chronological age, sex, race, and neighborhood socioeconomic status. Our study shows a robust association between GlycA and GrimAge (5.71, 95% CI = 4.36, 7.05, P = 7.94 × 10-16), Hannum Age (1.81, 95% CI = 0.65, 2.98, P = 2.30 × 10-3), and Phenotypic Age (2.88, 95% CI = 1.91, 3.87, P = 1.21 × 10-8). We also saw inverse associations between apolipoprotein A-1 and aging biomarkers. These associations provide insight into the relationship between aging and cardiometabolic health that may be informative for vulnerable populations.

Abstract
Purpose To investigate the value of apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1), apolipoprotein B (ApoB), and ApoA1/B ratio in pathogenic diagnosis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) complicated by acute lower respiratory tract infection, assisting comprehensive disease assessment. Patients and Methods The study enrolled 171 COPD patients with acute lower respiratory tract infections, 35 COPD patients without acute lower respiratory tract infections, and 41 healthy controls. Correlation analysis and binary logistic regression were used to assess the roles of various factors in COPD with acute lower respiratory tract infections. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were plotted and area under curves (AUC) values were calculated to evaluate the predictive performance. Results Infections were the cause of alterations in ApoA1, ApoB and ApoA1/B index. In correlation analysis for pathogenic diagnosis of COPD complicated by acute lower respiratory infections, age, ApoA1, ApoA1/B ratio, lymphocyte count (LYMPH), neutrophil count (NEUT), C-reactive protein (CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and endotoxin were significantly correlated. For predicting COPD complicated by acute lower respiratory tract bacterial infection, ApoA1 had the highest area under the ROC curve (AUC: 0.889), with sensitivity and specificity of 82.9% and 83.9%, respectively. The combination of NEUT and ApoA1 improved the prediction efficacy (AUC: 0.909; sensitivity/specificity: 85.1%/85.7%). Conclusion ApoA1, ApoB, and ApoA1/B ratio are good indicators for predicting pathogens in COPD complicated by acute lower respiratory tract infection, especially ApoA1 which has high predictive value.

Abstract
Tetranectin (TN), a serum protein, is closely associated with different types of cancers. TN binds plasminogen and promotes the proteolytic activation of plasminogen into plasmin, which suggests that TN is involved in remodeling the extracellular matrix and cancer tissues during cancer development. TN is also associated with other diseases, such as developmental disorders, cardiovascular diseases, neurological diseases, inflammation, and diabetes. Although the functional mechanism of TN in diseases is not fully elucidated, TN binds different proteins, such as structural protein, a growth factor, and a transcription regulator. Moreover, TN changes and regulates protein functions, indicating that TN-binding proteins mediate the association between TN and diseases. This review summarizes the current knowledge of TN-associated diseases and TN functions with TN-binding proteins in different diseases. In addition, potential TN-targeted disease treatment by inhibiting the interaction between TN and its binding proteins is discussed.

Abstract
Background ApoB/ApoA-I ratio is a reliable indicator of cholesterol balance, particularly in the prediction of ischemic events risk. The aim of this study was to investigate the prognostic value of ApoB/ApoA-I for stroke recurrence within 1 year after the first incident. Methods We retrospectively included patients who were first diagnosed with acute (<7 days after onset) ischemic stroke. Blood samples were collected on admission, and serum ApoB and ApoA-I concentrations were measured. We analyzed the relationship between ApoB/ApoA-I ratio and ischemic stroke recurrence within 1 year. Results A total of 722 patients with acute ischemic stroke were included, of whom 102 experienced stroke recurrence within 1 year, with a recurrence rate of 14.1%. Serum ApoB/ApoA-I concentrations on admission were higher in patients with stroke recurrence at 1 year compared with those with a good prognosis (P < 0.001). The Kaplan-Meier survival curve revealed a significant difference in cumulative stroke recurrence rates across ApoB/ApoA-I tertiles (log-rank P-value < 0.001). A positive correlation between the ApoB/ApoA-I ratio and the risk of stroke recurrence within 1 year was demonstrated using Cox regression analysis, which remained significant after adjusting for traditional risk factors [hazard ratio (HR) 4.007, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.661-9.666]. This relationship was particularly strong in patients with LAA stroke (HR 4.955, 95% CI 1.591-15.434). Subgroup analysis further revealed that a high ApoB/ApoA-I ratio was strongly associated with stroke recurrence regardless of whether patients had high or low LDL-C levels. Discussion ApoB/ApoA-I ratio, measured during the acute phase of the first stroke, was positively correlated with the risk of stroke recurrence within 1 year.

Abstract
Psoriasis (PSO) is a common skin disease affecting approximately 1%-3% of the population, and the incidence rate is increasing yearly. PSO is associated with a dramatically increased risk of cardiovascular disease, the most common of which is atherosclerosis (AS). In the past, inflammation was considered to be the triggering factor of the two comorbidities, but in recent years, studies have found that lipid metabolism disorders increase the probability of atherosclerosis in patients with psoriasis. In this review, we discuss epidemiological studies, clinical treatment methods, risk factors, and lipid metabolism of psoriasis and atherosclerosis comorbidities.

Abstract
Red coloration is considered an economically important trait in some fish species, including spotted scat, a marine aquaculture fish. Erythrophores are gradually covered by melanophores from the embryonic stage. Despite studies of black spot formation and melanophore coloration in the species, little is known about erythrophore development, which is responsible for red coloration. 1-phenyl 2-thiourea (PTU) is a tyrosinase inhibitor commonly used to inhibit melanogenesis and contribute to the visualization of embryonic development. In this study, spotted scat embryos were treated with 0.003% PTU from 0 to 72 h post fertilization (hpf) to inhibit melanin. Erythrophores were clearly observed during the embryonic stage from 14 to 72 hpf, showing an initial increase (14 to 36 hpf), followed by a gradual decrease (36 to 72 hpf). The number and size of erythrophores at 36 hpf were larger than those at 24 and 72 hpf. At 36 hpf, LC-MS and absorbance spectrophotometry revealed that the carotenoid content was eight times higher than the pteridine content, and β-carotene and lutein were the main pigments related to red coloration in spotted scat larvae. Compared with their expression in the normal hatching group, rlbp1b, rbp1.1, and rpe65a related to retinol metabolism and soat2 and apoa1 related to steroid hormone biosynthesis and steroid biosynthesis were significantly up-regulated in the PTU group, and rh2 associated with phototransduction was significantly down-regulated. By qRT-PCR, the expression levels of genes involved in carotenoid metabolism (scarb1, plin6, plin2, apoda, bco1, and rep65a), pteridine synthesis (gch2), and chromatophore differentiation (slc2a15b and csf1ra) were significantly higher at 36 hpf than at 24 hpf and 72 hpf, except for bco1. These gene expression profiles were consistent with the developmental changes of erythrophores. These findings provide insights into pigment cell differentiation and gene function in the regulation of red coloration and contribute to selective breeding programs for ornamental aquatic animals.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to comprehensively evaluate the lipid profiles in patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). METHODS The literature and relevant reviews were searched for published clinical studies on the relationship between JIA and blood lipid levels. The Newcastle-Ottawa scale (NOS) was applied to evaluate the risk and methodological value of the included case‒control and cohort studies. Standardized mean differences (SMDs) and 95% confidence intervals were derived for all variables with adequate unprocessed data. This meta-analysis followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. RESULTS In total, 16 studies were incorporated through screening. The analysis findings revealed that the levels of very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol [SMD=-0.411, 95% CI (-0.774~-0.048), P = 0.026], high-density lipoprotein cholesterol [SMD=-0.528, 95% CI (-0.976~-0.079), P = 0.021], and apolipoprotein A1 [SMD=-1.050, 95% CI (-1.452~-0.647), P = 0.000] in JIA patients were statistically lower than those observed in healthy controls. The level of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol [SMD = 0.202, 95% CI (0.003 ~ 0.400), P = 0.046] was significantly higher in JIA patients than in healthy controls. In JIA patients, body mass index [SMD=-0.189, 95% CI (-0.690 ~ 0.311), P = 0.459], high-density lipoprotein [SMD =-1.235, 95% CI (-2.845 ~ 0.374), P = 0.133), low-density lipoprotein [SMD = 0.616, 95% CI (-0.813 ~ 2.046), P = 0.398), triglycerides (SMD = 0.278, 95% CI (-0.182 ~ 0.738), P = 0.236], total cholesterol [SMD=-0.073, 95% CI (-0.438 ~ 0.293), P = 0.696] and apolipoprotein B levels [SMD = 0.226, 95% CI (-0.133 ~ 0.585), P = 0.217] were not significantly different from those in healthy controls. CONCLUSIONS The outcomes of this meta-analysis suggest that dyslipidemia is common in JIA patients compared to healthy controls. Patients with JIA have a significantly increased risk of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease later in life.

Abstract
Endometrial carcinoma (EC) has become one of the most common gynecological malignant neoplasms in developed countries worldwide. Studies have shown that this may be closely related to the abnormal metabolism of blood lipids, which was the most significant metabolic change in the human body in this cancer. In this review, we focus on the correlation between lipid metabolism and EC and discuss the evidence that abnormal lipid metabolism promotes an increase in EC growth and metabolism, as well as the regulatory mechanism and related signaling pathways involved in this relationship. In addition, we also discussed the research progress of targeted therapies and drug treatments for EC that act on lipid metabolism, and statins are expected to become adjuvant drugs for EC in the future. This review will provide a systematic view for a better understanding of the etiological relationship between lipid metabolism and EC and further open up new therapeutic possibilities and effective treatments for EC by targeting lipid metabolism.

Abstract
Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most prevalent histological type of lung cancer and the leading cause of death globally. Patients with NSCLC have a poor prognosis for various factors, and a late diagnosis is one of them. The DNA methylation of CpG island sequences found in the promoter regions of tumor suppressor genes has recently received attention as a potential biomarker of human cancer. In this study, we report DNA methylation changes of the adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-binding cassette transporter G1 (ABCG1), which belongs to the ATP cassette transporter family in NSCLC patients. Our results demonstrate that ABCG1 is hyper-methylation in NSCLC samples, and these changes are negatively correlated to gene and protein expression. Furthermore, the expression of the ABCG1 gene is significantly associated with the survival time of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) patients; however, it did not show a correlation to overall survival (OS) of lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) patients. Notably, we found ABCG1 methylation status at locus cg20214535 is strongly associated with the survival time and consistently observed hyper-methylation in LUAD samples. This novel finding suggests ABCG1 is a potential candidate for targeted therapy in lung cancer via this specific probe. In addition, we illustrate the protein-protein interaction (PPI) of ABCG1 with other proteins and the strong communication of ABCG1 with immune cells.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Blood markers have important value in the diagnosis of depressive disorders. Serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) not only predicts stroke recurrence and poor functional prognosis in cerebrovascular disease (CVD) patients but also increases significantly in middle-aged women with depression. Thus, it has not been reported whether serum ALP is associated with the development of depression and/or vascular depression (VDe) in CVD patients. METHODS This was a cross-sectional study of 353 CVD patients (stroke patients, n = 291; cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) patients, n = 62). Baseline demographic information, fasting blood markers (such as blood counts, liver function, kidney function and lipids), and brain CT/MRI scans were collected. CVD patients were divided into non-depression, suspected vascular depression (SVD), and positive vascular depression (PVD) groups according to their Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAMD) scores. Univariate analysis of baseline data, blood markers, and the prevalence of lesions (> 1.5 cm) was performed. Subsequently, the diagnostic performance of the univariate and combined variables for SVD and PVD was analyzed using binary logistic regression. The diagnostic value of the multivariate model for VDe was analyzed by ordinal logistic regression. RESULTS (1) Serum ALP (p = 0.003) and hypersensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP, p = 0.001) concentrations increased as HAMD scores increased, and the prevalence of brain atrophy (p = 0.016) and lesions in the basal ganglia (p = 0.001) and parietal (p = 0.001), temporal (p = 0.002), and frontal lobes (p = 0.003) also increased, whereas the concentrations of hemoglobin (Hb, p = 0.003), cholinesterase (ChE, p = 0.001), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C, p = 0.005) declined. Among these variables, hs-CRP (r = 0.218, p < 0.001) had a weak positively association with HAMD scores, and ChE (r = -0.226, p < 0.001) had a weak negative association. (2) The combination of Hb, hs-CRP, ChE, ALP, and HDL-C improved diagnostic performance for VDe [AUC = 0.775, 95% CI (0.706, 0.844), p < 0.001]. (3) Hb (OR = 0.986, p = 0.049), ChE (OR = 0.999, p = 0.020), ALP (OR = 1.017, p = 0.003), and basal ganglia lesions (OR = 2.197, p < 0.001) were important factors impacting VDe development. After adjusting for Hb, hs-CRP, ChE, HDL-C, lesions in the above mentioned four locations, sex, age and the prevalence of CSVD and brain atrophy, ALP [OR = 1.016, 95% CI (1.005, 1.027), p = 0.004] was independently associated with VDe. CONCLUSION Hb, hs-CRP, ChE, ALP, and HDL-C concentrations are potential blood markers of depression in CVD patients and, when combined, may improve diagnostic performance for VDe. Serum ALP was independently associated with VDe in patients with CVD.

Abstract
Valproic acid (VPA) and its salts (sodium calcium magnesium and orotic) are psychotropic drugs that are widely used in neurology and psychiatry. The long-term use of VPA increases the risk of developing adverse drug reactions (ADRs), among which metabolic syndrome (MetS) plays a special role. MetS belongs to a cluster of metabolic conditions such as abdominal obesity, high blood pressure, high blood glucose, high serum triglycerides, and low serum high-density lipoprotein. Valproate-induced MetS (VPA-MetS) is a common ADR that needs an updated multidisciplinary approach to its prevention and diagnosis. In this review, we consider the results of studies of blood (serum and plasma) and the urinary biomarkers of VPA-MetS. These metabolic biomarkers may provide the key to the development of a new multidisciplinary personalized strategy for the prevention and diagnosis of VPA-MetS in patients with neurological diseases, psychiatric disorders, and addiction diseases.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Covid-19 is linked with the development of cardio-metabolic disorders, including dyslipidemia, dysregulation of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL). Furthermore, SARS-Co-2 infection is associated with noteworthy changes in lipid profile, which is suggested as a possible biomarker to support the diagnosis and management of Covid-19. METHODS This paper adopts the literature review method to obtain information about how Covid-19 affects high-risk group patients and may cause severe and critical effects due to the development of acute lung injury and acute respiratory distress syndrome. A narrative and comprehensive review is presented. RESULTS Reducing HDL in Covid-19 is connected to the disease severity and poor clinical outcomes, suggesting that high HDL serum levels could benefit Covid-19. SARS-CoV-2 binds HDL, and this complex is attached to the co-localized receptors, facilitating viral entry. Therefore, SARS-CoV-2 infection may induce the development of dysfunctional HDL through different mechanisms, including induction of inflammatory and oxidative stress with activation of inflammatory signaling pathways. In turn, the induction of dysfunctional HDL induces the activation of inflammatory signaling pathways and oxidative stress, increasing Covid-19 severity. CONCLUSIONS Covid-19 is linked with the development of cardio-metabolic disorders, including dyslipidemia in general and dysregulation of high-density lipoprotein and low-density lipoprotein. Therefore, the present study aimed to overview the causal relationship between dysfunctional high-density lipoprotein and Covid-19.

Abstract
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with an increased fracture risk. Our study aimed to explore differences in bone alterations between T2DM women and controls and to assess clinical predictors of bone impairment in T2DM. For this observational case control study, we recruited 126 T2DM female patients and 117 non-diabetic, age- and BMI-comparable women, who underwent clinical examination, routine biochemistry and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scans for bone mineral density (BMD) and trabecular bone score (TBS) assessment-derived indexes. These were correlated to metabolic parameters, such as glycemic control and lipid profile, by bivariate analyses, and significant variables were entered in multivariate adjusted models to detect independent determinants of altered bone status in diabetes. The T2DM patients were less represented in the normal bone category compared with controls (5% vs. 12%; p = 0.04); T2DM was associated with low TBS (OR: 2.47, C.I. 95%: 1.19–5.16, p = 0.016) in a regression model adjusted for age, menopausal status and BMI. In women with T2DM, TBS directly correlated with plasma high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) (p = 0.029) and vitamin D (p = 0.017) levels. An inverse association was observed with menopausal status (p < 0.001), metabolic syndrome (p = 0.014), BMI (p = 0.005), and waist circumference (p < 0.001). In the multivariate regression analysis, lower HDL-c represented the main predictor of altered bone quality in T2DM, regardless of age, menopausal status, BMI, waist circumference, statin treatment, physical activity, and vitamin D (p = 0.029; R2 = 0.47), which likely underlies common pathways between metabolic disease and bone health in diabetes.

Abstract
To investigate the relationship between health effect profile and co-exposure to heavy metal, 254 sanitation workers from Guangzhou, China, were recruited. Ten urinary metals were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Parameters of physical examination, including blood lipid metabolism, renal function, blood pressure, and lung function, were tested for each participant. The hazard quotients (HQs) of eight heavy metals were evaluated. Cobalt, copper (Cu), molybdenum (Mo), nickel (Ni), and tin (Sn) demonstrated the top five associations with human health with the ∑19β as 2.220, 1.351, 1.234, 0.957, and 0.930, respectively. Most physical examination parameters of workers were under the normal ranges, except the levels of forced mid expiratory flow rate (MMEF75/25), the maximum expiratory flow rate at 25% vital capacity (MEF25) and apolipoprotein B in the first quartile, and the level of uric acid in the third quartile of sanitation works. Moreover, Cu was significantly associated with diastolic pressure, pulse, and high density lipid (p < 0.05). Each unit increase in Mo level was related to a 120% increase odd ratio (OR) of abnormal of systolic pressure, but was significantly and negatively correlated with high density lipoprotein and apolipoprotein A, suggesting that Mo exposure may be a risk factor of cardiovascular disease. Each unit increase in Ni and Sn levels was associated with an increased OR of abnormal rate of MMEF75/25 and MEF25 (p < 0.001), suggesting the increasing risks of respiratory diseases. Sanitation workers exposed to Ni and Pb alone had no carcinogenic risks (HQ < 1). However, 23.8%, 34.6%, and 87.3% of sanitation workers confronted non-carcinogenic risks when exposed to Cu, Mo alone (HQ > 1), or co-exposed to the four heavy metals (HI > 1). Our study preliminarily revealed the potential sensitive health indicators of heavy metal co-exposure, which will provide beneficial health protection suggestions for the occupational populations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The association of Apolipoprotein A-I (APOAI) with T cell subsets and interferon-ү (IFN-γ) in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) has been not reported. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the association of APOAI with T cell subsets and IFN-γ in CAD. METHODS This study included a total of 107 patients with CAD including acute coronary syndrome and chronic coronary syndrome. T cell subsets, and CD3-CD56+ natural killer cells were quantified by flow cytometric analysis. The serum concentrations of IFN-ү were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Lipid profiles, C-reactive protein (CRP), and fibrinogen were measured in the clinical laboratory. Clinical data was obtained duration hospitalization. RESULTS The CD4+ T cells were higher in patients of the low-APOAI group ( .05). The high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) was also inversely associated with CD4+ T cells (p < .05), and positively associated with CD8+ T cells (p < .05). Lastly, APOA1 and HDL-C did not correlated with fibrinogen and CRP (p > .05). CONCLUSION The present study demonstrated the correlation of APOAI with T cell subsets and IFN-γ in CAD. These results provided novel information for the regulatory action between APOAI and T cell subsets and inflammatory immunity in CAD.

Abstract
SARS-CoV-2 infection goes beyond acute pneumonia, as it also impacts lipid metabolism. Decreased HDL-C and LDL-C levels have been reported in patients with COVID-19. The lipid profile is a less robust biochemical marker than apolipoproteins, components of lipoproteins. However, the association of apolipoprotein levels during COVID-19 is not well described and understood. The objective of our study is to measure plasma levels of 14 apolipoproteins in patients with COVID-19 and to evaluate the relationships between apolipoprotein levels, severity factors and patient outcomes. From November to March 2021, 44 patients were recruited on admission to the intensive care unit because of COVID-19. Fourteen apolipoproteins and LCAT were measured by LC-MS/MS in plasma of 44 COVID-19 patients on admission to the ICU and 44 healthy control subjects. Absolute apolipoprotein concentrations were compared between COVID-19 patients and controls. Plasma apolipoproteins (Apo) A (I, II, IV), C(I, II), D, H, J and M and LCAT were lower in COVID-19 patients, whereas Apo E was higher. COVID-19 severity factors such as PaO2/FiO2 ratio, SO-FA score and CRP were correlated with certain apolipoproteins. Lower Apo B100 and LCAT levels were observed in non-survivors of COVID-19 versus survivors. To conclude, in this study, lipid and apolipoprotein profiles are altered in COVID-19 patients. Low Apo B100 and LCAT levels may be predictive of non-survival in COVID-19 patients.

Abstract
Background Hyperuricemia and gout are a group of disorders of purine metabolism. In recent years, the incidence of hyperuricemia and gout has been increasing, which is a severe threat to people's health. Several studies on hyperuricemia and gout in proteomics and metabolomics have been conducted recently. Some literature has identified biomarkers that distinguish asymptomatic hyperuricemia from acute gout or remission of gout. We summarize the physiological processes in which these biomarkers may be involved and their role in disease progression. Methodology We used professional databases including PubMed, Web of Science to conduct the literature review. This review addresses the current landscape of hyperuricemia and gout biomarkers with a focus on proteomics and metabolomics. Results Proteomic methods are used to identify differentially expressed proteins to find specific biomarkers. These findings may be suggestive for the diagnosis and treatment of hyperuricemia and gout to explore the disease pathogenesis. The identified biomarkers may be mediators of the link between hyperuricemia, gout and kidney disease, metabolic syndrome, diabetes and hypertriglyceridemia. Metabolomics reveals the main influential pathways through small molecule metabolites, such as amino acid metabolism, lipid metabolism, or other characteristic metabolic pathways. These studies have contributed to the discovery of Chinese medicine. Some traditional Chinese medicine compounds can improve the metabolic disorders of the disease. Conclusions We suggest some possible relationships of potential biomarkers with inflammatory episodes, complement activation, and metabolic pathways. These biomarkers are able to distinguish between different stages of disease development. However, there are relatively few proteomic as well as metabolomic studies on hyperuricemia and gout, and some experiments are only primary screening tests, which need further in-depth study.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Apolipoproteins are known atherogenic factors that play important roles in many mechanisms related to acute ischemic stroke (AIS). However, it is unclear whether the ApoB/ApoA-Ι ratio is related to the prognosis of patients with AIS. METHODS We conducted a prospective cohort study in the Department of Neurology, Yangpu Hospital, School of Medicine, Tongji University and investigated the association between ApoB/ApoA-Ι ratio and poor outcomes at 3 months of AIS. RESULTS 1,247 patients that met the eligibility criteria were enrolled in our study. We found that ApoA-Ι (Adjusted odds ratios (adjOR) 0.529, 95 %CI 0.327-0.855), ApoB (adjOR 3.015, 95 %CI 1.746-5.207), and ApoB/ApoA-Ι ratio (adjOR 3.986, 95 %CI 2.220-7.155) were independently associated with poor outcomes in acute ischemic stroke. During subgroup analysis, the ApoB/ApoA-Ι ratio was more likely associated with poor AIS outcomes in males and patients younger than 80 with SAO(Small Artery Occlusion) and no history of diabetes or statin use. Restricted cubic spline analyses explored the correlation between poor outcomes and ApoB/ApoA-Ι ratio. CONCLUSIONS Higher ApoB, lower ApoA-Ι, and higher ApoB/ApoA-Ι ratios were independently associated with poor outcomes in AIS. However, ApoB and ApoA-Ι were not related to hemorrhagic transformation in AIS.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To conduct an exploratory Mendelian randomization analysis of the causal relationships of anhedonia with a wide range of psychiatric and somatic phenotypes based on the genetic data of participants in a population study. MATERIAL AND METHODS This cross-sectional study included 4520 participants, of which 50.4% (n=2280) were female. The mean age was 36.8 (S.D.=9.8) years. Participants were pheno-nailed based on the DSM-5 criteria for anhedonia in the framework of depression. An episode of anhedonia exceeding 2 weeks during life was reported by 57.6% (n=2604) of participants. A genome-wide association study (GWAS) of the anhedonia phenotype was performed, as well as a Mendelian randomization analysis using summary statistics of large-scale GWASs on psychiatric and somatic phenotypes. RESULTS The GWAS on anhedonia did not reveal the variants with genome-wide significant association (p<10-8). The most significant (p=9.71×10-7) was the variant rs296009 (chr5:168513184) in an intron of the slit guidance ligand 3 (SLIT3) gene. Using Mendelian randomization, nominally significant (p<0.05) causal associations of anhedonia with 24 phenotypes were identified, which can be divided into 5 main groups: psychiatric/neurological diseases, inflammatory diseases of the digestive system, respiratory diseases, oncological diseases and metabolic disorders. The most significant causal effects of anhedonia were found for breast cancer (p=0.0004, OR=0.9986, 95% confidence interval (CI) (0.9978-0.999)), minimal depression phenotype (p=0.009, OR=1.004, 95% CI (1.001-1.007)), as well as for apolipoprotein A (p=0.01, OR=0.973, 95% CI (0.952-0.993)) and respiratory diseases (p=0.01, OR=0.9988, 95% CI (0.9980-0.9997)). CONCLUSION The polygenic nature of anhedonia may cause the risks of comorbidity of this phenotype with a wide range of somatic diseases, as well as may be associated with mood disorders.

Abstract
PURPOSE Long-term hospitalized patients with schizophrenia (SCZ) are vulnerable to physical illness, leading to impaired life expectancy and treatment outcomes. There are few studies on the influence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in long-term hospitalized patients. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of and influence factors for NAFLD in hospitalized patients with SCZ. PATIENTS AND METHODS This cross-sectional retrospective study included 310 patients who had experienced long-term hospitalization for SCZ. NAFLD was diagnosed based on the results of abdominal ultrasonography. The T-test, Mann-Whitney U-test, correlation analysis, and logistic regression analysis were used to determine the influence factors for NAFLD. RESULTS Among the 310 patients who had experienced long-term hospitalization for SCZ, the prevalence of NAFLD was 54.84%. Antipsychotic polypharmacy (APP), body mass index (BMI), hypertension, diabetes, total cholesterol (TC), apolipoprotein B (ApoB), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), triglycerides (TG), uric acid, blood glucose, gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), high-density lipoprotein, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio significantly differed between the NAFLD and non-NAFLD groups (all P<0.05). Hypertension, diabetes, APP, BMI, TG, TC, AST, ApoB, ALT, and GGT were positively correlated with NAFLD (all P<0.05). The results of the logistic regression analysis indicated that APP, diabetes, BMI, ALT, and ApoB were the influence factors for NAFLD in patients with SCZ. CONCLUSION Our results suggest a high prevalence of NAFLD among patients hospitalized long-term due to severe SCZ symptoms. Moreover, a history of diabetes, APP, overweight/obese status, and increased levels of ALT and ApoB were identified as negative factors for NAFLD in these patients. These findings may provide a theoretical basis for the prevention and treatment of NAFLD in patients with SCZ and contribute to the development of novel targeted treatments.

Abstract
Protein ApoA1 is extensively studied for its role in lipid metabolism. Its seedy dark side of amyloid formulation remains relatively understudied yet. Due to genetic mutations, the protein pathologically misshapes into its amyloid form that gets accumulated in various organs, including the heart. To contrive effective therapeutics against this debilitating congenital disorder, it is imperative to comprehend the structural ramifications induced by mutations in APoA1's dynamic conformation. Till now, several point mutations have been implicated in ApoA1's amyloidosis, although only a handful has been examined considerably. Especially, the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that occur in-between 170-178 mutation hotspot site of APoA1 needs to be investigated, since most of them are culpable of amyloid deposition in the heart. To that effect, in the present study, we have computationally quantified and studied the ApoA1's biomolecular modifications fostered by SNPs in the 170-178 mutation hotspot. Findings from discrete molecular dynamics simulation studies indicate that the SNPs have noticeably steered the ApoA1's behaviour from its native structural dynamics. Analysis of protein's secondary structural changes exhibits a considerable change upon mutations. Further, subjecting the protein structures to simulated thermal denaturation shows increased resistance to denaturation among mutants when compared to native. Further, normal mode analysis of protein's dynamic motion also shows discrepancy in its dynamic structural change upon SNP. These structural digressions induced by SNPs can very well be the biomolecular incendiary that drives ApoA1 into its amyloidogenesis. And, understanding these structural modifications initiates a better understanding of SNP's amyloidogenic pathology on APoA1.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

Abstract
Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is a collective term for a group of conditions that lead to impairment of the function of the temporomandibular joint. The proteins/genes and signaling pathways associated with TMD are still poorly understood. The aim of this study was to identify key differentially expressed salivary proteins/genes (DEGs) associated with TMD progression using LC-MS/MS coupled with a bioinformatics approach. The protein–protein interaction network was obtained from the STRING database and the hub genes were identified using Cytoscape including cytoHubba and MCODE plug-ins. In addition, enrichment of gene ontology functions and the Reactome signaling pathway was performed. A total of 140 proteins/genes were differentially expressed. From cluster analysis, a set of 20 hub genes were significantly modulated: ALB, APOA1, B2M, C3, CAT, CLU, CTSD, ENO1, GSN, HBB, HP, HSPA8, LTF, LYZ, MMP9, S100A9, SERPINA1, TF, TPI1, and TXN. Two enriched signaling pathways, glycolysis and gluconeogenesis, and tryptophan signaling pathway involving the hub genes CAT, ENO1, and TPI1 have been identified. The rest of the hub genes were mainly enriched in the innate immune system and antimicrobial peptides signaling pathways. In summary, hub DEGs and the signaling pathways identified here have elucidated the molecular mechanisms of TMD pathogenesis.

Abstract
Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is associated with cardiovascular and metabolic comorbidities, including hypertension, dyslipidaemia, insulin resistance and atherosclerosis. Strong evidence suggests that OSA is associated with an altered lipid profile including elevated levels of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins and decreased levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL). Intermittent hypoxia; sleep fragmentation; and consequential surges in the sympathetic activity, enhanced oxidative stress and systemic inflammation are the postulated mechanisms leading to metabolic alterations in OSA. Although the exact mechanisms of OSA-associated dyslipidaemia have not been fully elucidated, three main points have been found to be impaired: activated lipolysis in the adipose tissue, decreased lipid clearance from the circulation and accelerated de novo lipid synthesis. This is further complicated by the oxidisation of atherogenic lipoproteins, adipose tissue dysfunction, hormonal changes, and the reduced function of HDL particles in OSA. In this comprehensive review, we summarise and critically evaluate the current evidence about the possible mechanisms involved in OSA-associated dyslipidaemia.

The Prognostic Value of Serum Apolipoprotein A-I Level and Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio in Colorectal Cancer Liver Metastasis. JOURNAL OF ONCOLOGY 2022; 2022:9149788. Abstract
Background Colorectal cancer liver metastasis (CRLM) is a high degree of malignancy with rapid disease progression and has a poor prognosis. Both serum apolipoprotein A-I (ApoA-I) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) play key roles in anti-inflammation and antitumor. This study is aimed at evaluating the implication of serum ApoA-I level in combination with NLR in the prognosis of CRLM. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the serum ApoA-I level and NLR in 237 patients with CRLM. Cox regression analyses were used to identify the independent prognostic significance of these indicators. Kaplan-Meier method and Log-rank test were applied to compute overall survival (OS). Both the ApoA-I and NLR were divided into three levels, according to their medians. A risk-stratified prediction model was established to evaluate the prognosis of patients with CRLM. The ROC curve AUC values were applied to evaluate the capability of the model. Results Higher levels of ApoA-I and lower NLR were strongly associated with prolonged OS (Log-rank test, P < 0.05). The patients were then grouped into three queues according to the ApoA-I level and NLR. There was a crucial diversity in the OS (P < 0.001) between the high-risk (ApoA − I ≤ 1.03 g/L and NLR > 3.24), medium-risk (ApoA − I > 1.03 g/L or NLR ≤ 3.24) and low-risk groups (ApoA − I > 1.03 g/L and NLR ≤ 3.24). The AUC value of the prediction model (AUC = 0.623, 95% CI: 0.557-0.639, P = 0.001) was higher than other individual indicators (including ApoA-I, NLR, cT classification, and cN classification). Additionally, the association of the prediction model and cTN classification (AUC = 0.715, 95% CI: 0.606-0.708, P < 0.001) was better than the model and cTN classification alone. Conclusion The combination of ApoA-I level and NLR could be a prognostic indicator for CRLM.

Abstract
Sparse data assessed the association of apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1) and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) with inflammation. We investigated this association in a hospital-based cross-sectional pilot study that included 7296 patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). In multivariate analysis, negative associations of ApoA1 and HDL-C with C-reactive protein (CRP), high sensitivity CRP (hsCRP), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were shown. The corresponding CRP, hsCRP, and TNF-α values were 5.28 (vs 11.70 mg/L), 4.50 (vs 11.50 mg/L), and 7.68 (vs 10.90 pg/mL) for ApoA1, and 7.13 (vs 10.60 mg/L), 6.27 (vs 9.19 mg/L), and 8.11 (vs 11.86 pg/mL) for HDL-C in the fourth quartiles compared with the first quartiles. ApoA1/HDL-C ratio was inversely associated with hsCRP and interleukin-6 (IL-6). No significant associations of ApoA1 and HDL-C with IL-6 and IL-8, and of ApoA1/HDL-C ratio with CRP, IL-8, and TNF-α were observed. In path analyses, there was no evidence of mediating effects of body mass index on the "ApoA1 and HDL-C-inflammation" relationship. Generally, our study of CAD patients identified graded and inverse associations of ApoA1, HDL-C, and ApoA1/HDL-C ratio with inflammatory marker (CRP, hsCRP, IL-6, IL-8, or TNF-α) levels.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Owl monkeys (Aotus infulatus) are frequently affected by heart diseases and, as in humans, dyslipidemia is one of the predisposing factors for adverse cardiovascular events. In view of this, the study of the lipid profile and plasma apolipoproteins can contribute to the clinical management of this neotropical primate species. METHODS Lipid profile as well as A-1 and B apolipoprotein values were analyzed in 60 owl monkeys, studying their relationship with body biometry and the presence of cardiac alterations. RESULTS Animals suspected of having heart disease did not show significant differences (p < .05) in terms of biometry or in relation to lipid profile and apolipoproteins A-1 and B values; however, higher values of LDL and ApoB and ApoB/ApoA-1 were observed in this group. CONCLUSIONS This study is the first to describe the lipid profile and apolipoprotein values in owl monkeys, and further work will be needed to better elucidate the worthiness of LDL, ApoB, and the ApoB/ApoA-1 ratio in this primate species.

Abstract
Peripheral 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT, also called serotonin) is reportedly a potential therapeutic target in obesity-related metabolic diseases due to its regulatory role in energy homeostasis in mammals. However, information on the detailed effect of peripheral 5-HT on the energy metabolism in fishes, especially the lipid metabolism, and the underlying mechanism remains elusive. In this study, a diet-induced obesity model was developed in the zebrafish (Danio rerio), a prototypical animal model for metabolic disorders. The zebrafish were fed a high-fat diet for 8 weeks and were simultaneously injected with PBS, 0.1 mM and 10 mM 5-HT, intraperitoneally. The body weight was significantly lower in the zebrafish injected with 0.1 mM 5-HT (P < 0.05), however, there was no change in body length (P > 0.05) at the end of the 8-week treatment. The muscle tissues from the zebrafish treated with PBS and 5-HT were collected for transcriptomic analysis and the RNA-seq revealed 1134, 3713, and 2535 genes were screened out compared to the muscular DEGs among three groups. The enrichment analysis revealed DEGs to be significantly associated with multiple metabolic pathways, including ribosome, oxidative phosphorylation, proteasome, PPAR signaling pathway, and ferroptosis. Additionally, the qRT-PCR validated 12 DEGs out of which 10 genes exhibited consistent trends. Taken together, this data provided useful information on the transcriptional characteristics of the muscle tissue in the obese zebrafish exposed to 5-HT, offering important insights into the regulatory effect of peripheral 5-HT in teleosts, as well as novel approaches for preventing and treating obesity-related metabolic dysfunction.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Studies on the association of apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1) and apolipoprotein B (ApoB) with hypertension (HTN) prevalence in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) are limited. This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate this association in Chinese people in Wuhan, China. METHODS Serum ApoA1 and ApoB levels were measured by immunoturbidimetry assay. Logistic regression analysis was used to estimate the associations of ApoA1 and ApoB level and ApoB/A1 ratio with HTN prevalence. RESULTS We included 5192 individuals (3060 men, mean age 61 years; 4412 HTN cases) in this study. After adjusting for covariates, serum ApoA1 but not ApoB level or ApoB/A1 ratio was inversely associated with HTN prevalence. HTN prevalence was reduced with the fifth versus first quintile of ApoA1 level [odds ratio = 0.78 (95% confidence interval 0.62-0.98)]. In stratified analyses based on sex, the probability of HTN with the fifth versus first ApoA1 level was 0.71 (0.53-0.96) for men. The probability of HTN with the fifth versus first quintile of ApoB/A1 ratio was 1.54 (1.11-2.13) after adjustment. With quintiles 2-5 versus of ApoB level, the probability of HTN did not differ in both men and women. On path analyses, the association of ApoA1 level and ApoB/A1 ratio with HTN was mediated by BMI (β coefficients: -0.179 to 0.133). CONCLUSION In general, high serum ApoA1 level may be associated with a reduced probability of HTN prevalence in patients with CAD in China, and this association may be mediated by BMI.

Abstract
Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) have been suggested to play crucial roles in the pathology of NAFLD with a vague understanding of the underlying mechanism. Here, we integrated large-scale literature data and clinical data to explore the potential role of the PPAR-APOA1 signaling pathway in the pathology of NAFLD. First, the signaling pathway connecting PPARs, APOA1, and NAFLD was constructed. Then, we employed clinical data to explore the association between APOA1 levels and NAFLD. In addition, we built the APOA1-driven pathway analysis to explore the potential mechanism of the APOA1-NAFLD association. Pathway analysis showed that APOA1 serves as a hubprotein connecting PPARs and NAFLD through a beneficial modulation of 16 out of 21 NAFLD upstream regulators. Each relationship within the composed pathway was supported by results from multiple previous studies. Clinical data analysis showed that an increase of APOA1 level was associated with a significantly decreased NAFLD prevalence (χ2 = 292.109; P < 0.001). When other confounding factors were adjusted, serum APOA1 level was shown as an independent risk factor for the prevalence of NAFLD (P value<.0001; OR = 0.562). Our results suggested that the three PPARs (PPARA, PPARD, and PPARG) might promote the expression and molecular transportation of APOA1 to form a PPAR-APOA1 signaling pathway that demonstrated a beneficial role in the pathogenesis of NAFLD.

Abstract
Apolipoproteins exert a key role on glucose metabolism; however, scarce data have examined the relationship between apolipoproteins and glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) in Chinese adults. This study determined the cross-sectional and longitudinal associations of serum Apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1), Apolipoprotein B (ApoB) and the ApoB/A1 ratio with HbA1c in Chinese adults. A total of 1448 subjects (584 men and 864 women) aged 54.8 years were included in a baseline survey, and the concentrations of Apo and HbA1c were measured. A total of 826 participants were followed up approximately once after 3.94 ± 0.62 years. In cross-sectional analysis, serum ApoA1 was inversely associated with HbA1c, while ApoB and the ApoB/A1 ratio were positively associated with HbA1c. After further adjusting for the potential covariates, a higher ApoA1 was associated with lower HbA1c (Quartile 4 [Q4] vs. Q1 = 5.673% vs. 5.796%, P-trend = 0.014). In contrast, positive association of ApoB concentration and the ApoB/A1 ratio with HbA1c level were showed (Q4 vs. Q1 = 5.805% vs. 5.589% for ApoB; Q4 vs. Q1 = 5.841% vs. 5.582% for ApoB/A1 ratio). The longitudinal results showed no significant associations of ApoA1, ApoB levels and the ApoB/A1 ratio with HbA1c changes (all P-trends > 0.05). Path analysis suggested that body mass index did not have mediating effect on Apo-HbA1c association. Our findings revealed that higher ApoA1, lower ApoB concentrations and the ApoB/A1 ratio were associated with lower HbA1c level in Chinese adults.

Abstract
Simple Summary Angiogenin (ANG) is a small 123 amino acid protein which in normal growth is associated with formation of new blood vessels in a process called angiogenesis; however, the abnormal levels of this protein in blood has been associated with diseases such as cancer, neurological disorders, and cardiovascular diseases. Vitamin D deficiency and elevated levels of blood lipids have also been associated with many diseases including cardiovascular diseases. In this study, the investigators tried to evaluate the relationship between the circulating levels of ANG, vitamin D, and lipids. The model used was vitamin D supplementation of deficient Saudi adults in order to find the effect of vitamin D correction on circulating levels of ANG and blood lipids. With vitamin D supplementation, modest but non-significant elevation in ANG was observed, as well as significant increase in apolipoproteins CIII and E and significant decrease in apo B. In addition, the correlation between circulating levels of ANG and apolipoproteins especially apo E observed in this study are interesting and should be investigated more as both are linked with neurologic disorders like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Abstract Angiogenin (ANG), a multifunctional protein known to induce blood vessel formation, is a potential biomarker for cardiovascular diseases; however, whether it is affected by vitamin D supplementation is not known. This interventional study in vitamin D-deficient Saudi adults was designed to investigate it. A total of 100 vitamin D-deficient Saudi adults aged 30–50 years were randomly selected to undergo 6-month vitamin D supplementation. Circulating levels of fasting glucose, lipids, vitamin D, apolipoproteins (AI, AII, B, CI, CII, CIII, E, and H), and ANG were measured using commercially available assays at baseline and after six months. Overall, vitamin D levels increased significantly post intervention. With this, levels of apo-CIII and apo-E significantly increased (p-values of 0.001 and 0.009, respectively) with a significant parallel decrease in apo-B (p = 0.003). ANG levels were significantly positively associated with most apolipoproteins and inversely correlated with HDL-cholesterol. Post intervention, the changes in ANG levels were positively correlated with apo-E (r = 0.32; p < 0.01 in all subjects and r = 0.40; p < 0.05 in males). Vitamin D supplementation may modestly affect ANG levels. The association observed between ANG and apo-E is worthy of further investigation since both biomarkers have been linked to neurodegenerative disorders.

Abstract
The paper presents data on the impacts of the content of ApoA-I in peripheral blood on the state of immune homeostasis in people living in extreme climatic conditions of the Arctic. From the village of Revda, Murmansk region, 191 people were examined, 160 women and 31 men, aged from 21 to 55 years. The analysis of the results was carried out depending on the level of ApoA-I content: 111 examined people had a low content of ApoA-I (< 115 mg/dl) and 80 people had a concentration of ApoA-I - within the physiological norm (115-220 mg/dl). Deficiency of ApoA-I is associated with an increase in plasma concentrations of total cholesterol in 37.5% and triglycerides in 62.5% of cases. Low content of ApoA-I is associated with a decrease in the content of neutrophilic granulocytes and an increase in the concentration of small lymphocytes, IL-10 and IgE. Deficiency of ApoA-I is associated with an increase in the content of CD45RA+, CD16+, CD56+ lymphocyte phenotypes in blood. Low concentrations of ApoA-I are associated with low expression activity of L-selectin gene and free L-selectin ligand. Due to deficiency of ApoA-I, no significant differences were detected in the content of transferrin, free transferrin receptor, haptoglobin, free calcium-dependent cell adhesion protein, and free pool of receptors involved in apoptosis. Conclusion: deficiency of ApoA-I in blood plasma is associated with increased migration of neutrophils into the tissue and cell-mediated cytotoxicity of lymphocytes and occurs because of the effect of decreased activity of the level of antioxidant defense, changes in the structure of cell membranes and the participation of adhesion molecules.

Abstract
In this study, we characterized and compared the whey proteins from donkey and bovine milk using HPLC-MS/MS-based proteomics. A total of 989 and 1534 whey proteins were characterized in donkey and bovine milk, respectively. Furthermore, 623 whey proteins were found in both groups, and 229 differentially expressed whey proteins (DEWPs) were identified. Among the common proteins, 66 DEWPs were upregulated and 163 were downregulated in donkey milk compared to those in bovine milk. Gene Ontology analysis revealed the cellular components, biological processes, and molecular functions of these DEWPs. Metabolic pathway analysis suggested that most DEWPs were associated with endocytosis, platelet activation, and phagocytosis. These results improve our understanding of the differences between donkey and bovine whey proteins and provide important information regarding these proteins as nutritional and functional factors in dairy product formulations from multiple milk sources.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A wealth of experimental and epidemiological evidence suggest that Apolipoprotein A-I (ApoA-I), the main protein constituent of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), may protect against Alzheimer disease (AD). To investigate this potential role, we conducted a meta-analysis of the published studies on the relationship between serum ApoA-I and AD occurrence. METHODS We screened MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Scopus, for cross-sectional studies published from inception to 1 March 2021, comparing the ApoA-I serum levels between patients with AD and cognitively normal controls. RESULTS From an initial screening of 245 articles, 5 studies, including 397 AD patients (mean age 75.0 years, 234 females) and 367 controls (mean age 69.2 years, 182 females), met the inclusion criteria. Compared to healthy controls, AD subjects had a lower ApoA-I serum level. The pooled weighted mean difference from a random-effects model was -0.31 g/L (p < 0.0001) (95% Confidence Interval: [-0.62-0.01], with high heterogeneity (I2 = 100%). The Egger's test confirmed an absence of publication bias (t = 0.62, p = 0.576). CONCLUSIONS Our study showed that AD patients present lower serum levels of ApoA-I compared to cognitively normal individuals. Further studies on large population samples are required to support this finding.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to investigate how changes in the lipid composition are involved in early stages of acute kidney injury (AKI) following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI-AKI) in elderly patients. A prospective nested case-control study was performed. Alterations in the urine protein accumulation were investigated in patients with and without PCI-AKI using isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation (iTRAQ). In addition, differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) related to lipids were confirmed using parallel reaction monitoring (PRM)-based targeted proteomics. From the cohort of elderly patients (>60 years of age), 14 (12.28%) developed AKI within 48 h after PCI. No significant differences were detected between the AKI and control (CON) groups for serum creatinine at 24 h following treatment (P=0.27). Among the DEPs that overlapped in both the AKI-24 h/AKI-Pre (AKI group at 24 h post-PCI vs. pre-PCI) and AKI-24 h/CON-24 h groups (AKI group vs. CON group at 24 h post-PCI), only apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I) was related to lipids, which displayed a significant upregulation in expression levels. The protein expression levels of apoA-I displayed a 5.98-fold increase at 24 h after PCI from the baseline and a 2.09-fold increase compared with the control group as determined using PRM, which exhibited a similar trend to the iTRAQ results. Using protein-protein interaction analyses, apoA-I was determined to be functionally linked to the complement and coagulation cascades, the renin-angiotensin system and the hypoxia-inducible factor-1 signaling pathway. Using the pathway analysis tool from the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes, several pathways were identified to be associated with apoA-I, including fat digestion and absorption, vitamin digestion and absorption, as well as the peroxisome proliferator activated receptor signaling pathway. In conclusion, apoA-I may be a promising biomarker for the early diagnosis of PCI-AKI in elderly patients. The role of apoA-I in the pathobiology of PCI-AKI requires further exploration.

Abstract
In mammals, peripheral serotonin is involved in regulating energy balance. Herein, we characterized the transcriptomic profile and microstructure of adipose and muscle in pre-weaned calves with increased circulating serotonin. Holstein bull calves (21 ± 2 days old) were fed milk replacer supplemented with saline (CON, 8 mL/day n = 4) or 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP, 90 mg/day, n = 4) for 10 consecutive days. Calves were euthanized on d10 to harvest adipose and muscle for RNA-Sequencing and histological analyses. Twenty-two genes were differentially expressed in adipose, and 33 in muscle. Notably, Interferon gamma inducible protein-47 was highly expressed and upregulated in muscle and adipose (avg. log FC = 6.5). Enriched pathways in adipose tissue revealed serotonin’s participation in lipid metabolism and PPAR signaling. In muscle, enriched pathways were related to histone acetyltransferase binding, Jak-STAT signaling, PI3K-Akt signaling and cell proliferation. Supplementation of 5-HTP increased cell proliferation and total cell number in adipose and muscle. Adipocyte surface area was smaller and muscle fiber area was not different in the 5-HTP group. Manipulating the serotonin pathway, through oral supplementation of 5-HTP, influences signaling pathways and cellular processes in adipose and muscle related to endocrine and metabolic functions which might translate into improvements in calf growth and development.

Abstract
Signaling through GPR109a, the putative receptor for the endogenous ligand β-OH butyrate, inhibits adipose tissue lipolysis. Niacin, an anti-atherosclerotic drug that can induce insulin resistance, activates GPR109a at nM concentrations. GPR109a is not essential for niacin to improve serum lipid profiles. To better understand the involvement of GPR109a signaling in regulating glucose and lipid metabolism, we treated GPR109a wild-type (+/+) and knockout (-/-) mice with repeated overnight injections of saline or niacin in physiological states characterized by low (ad libitum fed) or high (16 h fasted) concentrations of the endogenous ligand, β-OH butyrate. In the fed state, niacin increased expression of apolipoprotein-A1 mRNA and decreased sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1 mRNA independent of genotype, suggesting a possible GPR109a independent mechanism by which niacin increases high-density lipoprotein (HDL) production and limits transcriptional upregulation of lipogenic genes. Niacin decreased fasting serum non-esterified fatty acid concentrations in both GPR109a +/+ and -/- mice. Independent of GPR109a expression, niacin blunted fast-induced hepatic triglyceride accumulation and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α mRNA expression. Although unaffected by niacin treatment, fasting serum HDL concentrations were lower in GPR109a knockout mice. Surprisingly, GPR109a knockout did not affect glucose or lipid homeostasis or hepatic gene expression in either fed or fasted mice. In turn, GPR109a does not appear to be essential for the metabolic response to the fasting ketogenic state or the acute effects of niacin.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Apolipoprotein (Apo) may be associated with type 2 diabetes (T2D), however, little is known whether or not serum apolipoproteins are correlated with fasting blood glucose (FBG) and the prevalence of T2D in Chinese populations. In this study, we examined the association of serum ApoA1, ApoB, and the ratio of ApoB/ApoA1 (ApoB/A1 ratio) with T2D and FBG level, and compared apolipoprotein indicators in predicting T2D in Chinese adults. METHODS A total of 1027 subjects were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. The association of ApoA1, ApoB, and ApoB/A1 ratio with T2D prevalence was determined using logistic regression models. Multivariate-analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was performed for comparisons of the mean difference in FBG level. RESULTS We found that ApoB and ApoB/A1 ratio were positively associated with T2D prevalence and FBG, while inverse association was noted between ApoA1 and T2D prevalence as well as FBG. Stratified analyses for sex, age, body mass index (BMI), smoking, and alcohol consumption showed no significant difference for the association of ApoA1, ApoB, and ApoB/A1 ratio with the prevalence of T2D among subgroups (all p-interactions> 0.05). Nonetheless, ApoA1 poorly performed in predicting T2D as it provided an AUC value of 0.310 that was significantly lower than those observed for ApoB (AUC value: 0.631) and ApoB/A1 ratio (AUC value: 0.685). Finally, path analyses indicated that the association between ApoB and T2D was mediated by BMI. CONCLUSIONS This study reveals the association of serum ApoA1, ApoB, and ApoB/A1 ratio with T2D and FBG in Chinese adults, suggesting that ApoB and ApoB/A1 ratio may be early indicators for predicting T2D. Prospective investigation in large cohort is needed.

Abstract
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a relapsing chronic disorder of the gastrointestinal tract characterized by disruption of epithelial barrier function and excessive immune response to gut microbiota. The lack of biomarkers providing early diagnosis or defining the status of the pathology difficulties an accurate assessment of the disease. Given the different metabolomic profiles observed in IBD patients, metabolomics may reveal prime candidates to be studied, which may help in understanding the pathology and identifying novel therapeutic targets. In this review, we summarize the most current advances describing the promising metabolites such as lipids or amino acids found through untargeted metabolomics from serum, faecal, urine and biopsy samples.

Abstract
Objectives: Myopia is the most common refractive vision disorder. In recent years, several studies have suggested that the alteration of the exosomal protein levels in the aqueous humor (AH) is associated with the development of several eye diseases. Therefore, we aimed to explore the exosomal protein profile of the AH from myopia patients. Methods: Exosomes were isolated from the AH. The quality, concentration, and size distribution of exosomes for each patient were measured using nanoparticle tracking analysis system. Then, the exosomal proteins were purified and digested by trypsin for liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis. Results: There was no significant difference observed between the myopia and control when comparing the concentration and size distribution of exosomes in the AH for each sample. Based on LC-MS/MS analysis, myopia patients had higher and more complex exosomal peptide content. We found two proteins that were common in AH exosomes and eight proteins that were highly expressed in the myopia group. Conclusions: Our results provide pioneering findings for the exploration of the exosomal protein profile in myopia development. Further studies may provide significant information for the diagnosis, clinical treatment, and prognosis of myopia.

Abstract
Membrane proteins are involved in numerous vital biological processes, including transport, signal transduction and the enzymes in a variety of metabolic pathways. Integral membrane proteins account for up to 30% of the human proteome and they make up more than half of all currently marketed therapeutic targets. Unfortunately, membrane proteins are inherently recalcitrant to study using the normal toolkit available to scientists, and one is most often left with the challenge of finding inhibitors, activators and specific antibodies using a denatured or detergent solubilized aggregate. The Nanodisc platform circumvents these challenges by providing a self-assembled system that renders typically insoluble, yet biologically and pharmacologically significant, targets such as receptors, transporters, enzymes, and viral antigens soluble in aqueous media in a native-like bilayer environment that maintain a target's functional activity. By providing a bilayer surface of defined composition and structure, Nanodiscs have found great utility in the study of cellular signaling complexes that assemble on a membrane surface. Nanodiscs provide a nanometer scale vehicle for the in vivo delivery of amphipathic drugs, therapeutic lipids, tethered nucleic acids, imaging agents and active protein complexes. This means for generating nanoscale lipid bilayers has spawned the successful use of numerous other polymer and peptide amphipathic systems. This review, in celebration of the Anfinsen Award, summarizes some recent results and provides an inroad into the current and historical literature.
