Abstract
BACKGROUND Carbon-based nanomaterials (CNMs) hold great promise for food packaging applications due to their ability to improve barrier properties, mechanical strength, sensing capabilities, and resistance to environmental factors. CNMs, such as graphene and carbon nanotubes, can also be used as preservatives to extend the shelf life of food products by preventing spoilage and maintaining freshness. Additionally, their ability to respond to changes in environmental conditions means they can be used as sensors to provide information about food quality, freshness, or safety. SCOPE AND APPROACH This article reviews the properties of CNMs, their impact on packaging film properties, their utilization in smart and active food packaging systems in the food sector, and their potential safety concerns. KEY FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS These innovative nanomaterials offer a range of unique properties that can enhance the safety, shelf-life, quality, and sustainability of packaged food products. However, CNMs have their own set of challenges that need to be addressed, including their functional performance and safety assessment. Collaborations among material scientists, food technologists, and regulatory bodies are required to drive the development of safe and effective CNM-based food packaging solutions.

Abstract
Lung cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related death worldwide, with a significant number of patients succumbing to the disease each year. Olea europaea, commonly known as the olive tree, offers a range of health benefits due to its rich content of antioxidants. In the present study, we have reported the green synthesis of a bimetallic nanocomposite of zinc and copper using the leaf extract of Olea europaea (Zn/Cu NCs@ Olea europaea). The nanoparticles were characterized using common chemical techniques. The antioxidant activity of Zn/Cu NCs@ Olea europaea was evaluated using the DPPH assay. The cytotoxicity and anti-lung cancer activity of Zn/Cu NCs@ Olea europaea were investigated using the MTT assay. The results of XRD analysis and FE-SEM imaging showed a crystalline structure for Zn/Cu NCs@ Olea europaea with a semi-spherical morphology and an average size of 49.37 nm. Zn/Cu NCs@ Olea europaea scavenged the free radical DPPH with an IC50 of 363.42 ± 5.02 µg/mL. Furthermore, Zn/Cu NCs@ Olea europaea exhibited acceptable anti-lung cancer activity by preventing growth in the cell lines SK-MES-1, A-549, and LK-2 with IC50 of 154.00 ± 1.83, 228.83 ± 10.59, and 250.55 ± 8.04 µg/mL respectively. The NPs were inactive against the normal cell lines of HUVEC even at high concentrations. The results of the study indicate that Zn/Cu NCs@ Olea europaea, which is green synthesized with a sufficient nano size, can be considered a potent anti-lung cancer agent.

Abstract
Due to its rich nutritional content, beef is highly susceptible to bacterial contamination and lipid oxidation, which can lead to spoilage. Therefore, it is essential to incorporate antibacterial and antioxidant agents into food packaging films. In this study, micro- and nano-coconut fibers (BW-C) were obtained with wall-breaking ultrasonic technology. Subsequently, silver oxide (Ag₂O) was deposited on BW-C via chemical method to get Ag2O-coconut fibers (BW-CA). Tannic acid‑silver oxide/silver-coconut fibers (TA-Ag₂O/Ag-BW-C) modified PLA films were prepared by electrostatic spinning technique, and applied to fresh beef sticker packaging. The characteristics of the films were evaluated through its appearance, mechanical properties, antibacterial activity, antioxidant properties, migration analysis, in vitro cellular assay analysis and beef freshness assessment. The results indicated that TA-Ag₂O/Ag-BW-C modified PLA films exhibited excellent mechanical properties. The films demonstrated excellent antibacterial activity against E. coli, S. aureus and A. niger, as well as remarkable antioxidant properties, attributed to the synergistic effects of Ag₂O/Ag and TA. Silver and TA were released stably over 18 days in three different food simulation solutions. The films had no significant cytotoxicity to intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) and had good biocompatibility. The beef preservation experiment showed that the films could significantly extend the shelf life of fresh beef stored at 4 °C. Compared to commercial polyethylene (PE) films, the films extended the shelf life of fresh beef by 3-5 days. The TA-Ag₂O/Ag-BW-C modified PLA films have great potential for application in beef preservation packaging.

Abstract
Silver nanoparticles(AgNPs)have been widely used in biomedicine and industry. Growing studies have shown that AgNPs can induce sperm motility decrease and spermiogenesis disorders. In this study, animal experiments were used to investigate the role of mitophagy and pyroptosis caused by AgNPs (25.93 nm) in testicular injury. Results showed that AgNPs induced the production of NLRP3, IL-1β and IL-18, activated Caspase-1, increased the expression of GSDMD protein, and activated the PINK1/Parkin signaling pathway, which induced in mitophagy in mice testicle tissue. In summary, AgNPs induced mitophagy and pyroptosis in mice testis at the highest dose, which lead to damage of testis tissue.

Abstract
Currently, nanotechnology is the most promising science, engineering, and technology conducted at the nanoscale (nm), which is used in several sectors. Collectively, nanotechnology is causing a new industrial revolution, and nano-based products are becoming increasingly important for the global market and economy. The interest in nanomaterials has been strongly augmented during the last two decades, and this fact can be easily evaluated by considering the number of studies present in the literature. In November 2024, they accounted for 764,279 experimental studies developed in the years 2009-2024. During such a period, our group contributed to the field of applicative nanotechnology with several experimental and review articles, which we hope could have relevantly enhanced the knowledge of the scientific community. In this new publication, an exhaustive overview regarding the main types of developed nanomaterials, the characterization techniques, and their applications has been discussed. Particular attention has been paid to nanomaterials employed for the enhancement of bioavailability and delivery of bioactive molecules and to those used for ameliorating traditional food packaging. Then, we briefly reviewed our experimental studies on the development of nanoparticles (NPs), dendrimers, micelles, and liposomes for biomedical applications by collecting inherent details in a reader-friendly table. A brief excursus about our reviews on the topic has also been provided, followed by the stinging question of nanotoxicology. Indeed, although the application of nanotechnology translates into a great improvement in the properties of non-nanosized pristine materials, there may still be a not totally predictable risk for humans, animals, and the environment associated with an extensive application of NPs. Nanotoxicology is a science in rapid expansion, but several sneaky risks are not yet fully disclosed. So, the final part of this study discusses the pending issue related to the possible toxic effects of NPs and their impact on customers' acceptance in a scenario of limited knowledge.

Abstract
Edible coatings are revolutionizing food preservation by offering a sustainable and effective solution to key industry challenges. Made from natural biopolymers such as proteins, polysaccharides, and lipids, these coatings form a thin, edible layer on food surfaces. This barrier reduces moisture loss, protects against oxidative damage, and limits microbial growth, thereby extending shelf life while preserving food quality. Enhanced with natural additives like essential oils and antioxidants, these coatings offer antimicrobial benefits and contribute to health. Applications span from fresh produce, where they control respiration and moisture, to meat, dairy, and bakery products, maintaining sensory and nutritional properties. Innovations in coating technologies-such as composite materials, nano-emulsions, and bio-nanocomposites-are improving their mechanical strength, barrier properties, and compatibility with other preservation methods like modified atmosphere packaging. Although challenges remain in cost, consumer acceptance, and regulation, edible coatings represent a significant stride towards sustainable food systems and reduced dependence on synthetic packaging.

Abstract
Visual pH-responsive packaging material is particularly important in food supply chain safety monitoring due to their non-destructive monitoring method and intuitive result. However, it has always been limited by the instability performance of pH-response components and carriers, which further hinders its wide food safety application. To address these challenges, we selected cellulose with remarkable biocompatibility and mechanical properties as the carrier, and high pH-responsive curcumin to develop a smart packaging material (RC/GC composite film) with real-time food safety monitoring. Compared with pure cellulose film, the RC/GC composite film exhibited excellent mechanical properties (4-fold enhancement) and thermal stability (100 °C increasing). Meanwhile, based on the first reported strategy of curcumin in-situ growth during cellulose film formation, the RC/GC composite film exhibited exceptional antioxidant activity (89.2 %), antimicrobial property (91.6 %), and significant pH-responsive sensitivity (within 15 s). This innovative approach offers a new strategy for easy-to-use and effective monitoring of food spoilage in packaging materials.

Abstract
Both nanoparticles (NPs) and nano-enabled products have become widely available in consumer markets in the last decade. Surface coating including paints, stains, and sealants, have seen large increases in the inclusion of nanomaterials in their formulations to increase UV resistance, hydrophobicity, and scratch resistance. Currently, most literature studying the release of NPs and byproducts from coated surfaces has focused exclusively on lumber. In this study, well characterized CeO2 NPs were dispersed in either Milli-Q water, or a commercial paint primer and applied to several test surfaces including sanded plywood, drywall, low density polyethylene, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, polycarbonate, textured polycarbonate with pebble finish, and glass. Coated surfaces were sampled using a method previously developed by U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission staff to track the release of NPs via simulated dermal contact. Particular attention has been paid to the total amount, and morphology of material released. The total amount of cerium released from coated surfaces was found to be dependent on both the identity of the test surface, as well as the solution used for coating. Water-based application found 22-50 % of the applied cerium removed during testing, while primer-based application showed released rates ranging between 0.1 and 3 %. Finally, the SEM micrographs presented here suggest the release of microplastic particles during simulated dermal contact with plastic surfaces.

Abstract
Eco-friendly nanotechnology-enabled biopolymers are one of the novel concepts of packaging materials to substitute traditional synthetic polymers and their composites. This article succinctly reviews the recent developments of introducing additional functionalities to biopolymers using metal and metal oxide nanoparticles. The functionality of metal nanoparticles such as silver, zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, copper oxide, gold, and magnesium oxide, as food packaging materials were discussed. The addition of nanoparticles in biopolymers improves mechanical properties, gas barrier properties, durability, temperature stability, moisture stability, antimicrobial activity, antioxidant property, and UV absorbance and can prevent the presence of ethylene and oxygen, hence extending the shelf life of foodstuffs. Other than this, the functional activity of these biopolymer composite films helps them to act like smart or intelligent packaging. The selection of metal nanoparticles, particle migration, toxicological effect, and potential future scope in the food packaging industry are also reviewed.

Abstract
Growing toxicity of nanomaterials to aquatic organisms is a major area of concern as it is destroying the carefully evolved aquatic ecosystem and food web. Copper oxide nanoparticles (CuONPs) are among the top industrially manufactured nanomaterials having multifaceted applications in medicine, agriculture, energy, water technology, and other areas. However, reports on detailed scientific understanding behind toxic effects of CuONPs on aquatic organisms are scant. The present work reports on the interaction of CuONPs of 10 ± 05 nm with an ecologically significant aquatic species, Moina macrocopa, at morphological and enzymatic levels. CuONPs were found to be severely toxic just within 48 h of exposure as seen from the lethal value (48 h LC50) of 0.137 ± 0.002 ppm. Profiling of enzymatic toxicity biomarkers indicated variable response of CuONPs on selected enzymes of M. macrocopa at two sub-lethal concentrations (0.013 to 0.039 ppm). While the activities of acetyl cholinesterase and digestive enzymes (trypsin, amylase) were found to be significantly (p < 0.001) lowered after exposure to CuONPs, the β-galactosidase activity was completely inhibited. Among the antioxidant enzymes that were assayed, superoxide dismutase and glutathione-S-transferase activity was found to increase (p > 0.001), while that of catalase decreased (p > 0.001, < 0.05) with increase in exposure to CuONPs. An upsurge of several folds was seen in the activity of alkaline phosphatase after exposure to CuONPs as compared to the control group. CuONPs accumulated in the gut region of M. macrocopa which provided an ideal environment for CuONP to interact and alter the enzymes in M. macrocopa. This report highlights the use of enzymes as sensitive biomarker to detect toxicity of trace amount of CuONPs in a very sensitive non-target crustacean species found in water bodies.

Abstract
Objective Nanomedicine represents a transformative approach in biomedical applications. This study aims to delineate the application of nanomedicine in the biomedical field through the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis to evaluate its efficacy and potential in clinical applications. Methods The SWOT analysis framework was employed to systematically review and assess the internal strengths and weaknesses, along with external opportunities and threats of nanomedicine. This method provides a balanced consideration of the potential benefits and challenges. Results Findings from the SWOT analysis indicate that nanomedicine presents significant potential in drug delivery, diagnostic imaging, and tissue engineering. Nonetheless, it faces substantial hurdles such as safety issues, environmental concerns, and high development costs. Critical areas for development were identified, particularly concerning its therapeutic potential and the uncertainties surrounding long-term effects. Conclusion Nanomedicine holds substantial promise in driving medical innovation. However, successful clinical translation requires addressing safety, cost, and regulatory challenges. Interdisciplinary collaboration and comprehensive strategic planning are crucial for the safe and effective application of nanomedicine.

Abstract
This Review presents an overview of all-organic nanocomposites, a sustainable alternative to organic-inorganic hybrids. All-organic nanocomposites contain nanocellulose, nanochitin, and aramid nanofibers as highly rigid reinforcing fillers. They offer superior mechanical properties and lightweight characteristics suitable for diverse applications. The Review discusses various methods for preparing the organic nanofillers, including top-down and bottom-up approaches. It highlights in situ polymerization as the preferred method for incorporating these nanomaterials into polymer matrices to achieve homogeneous filler dispersion, a crucial factor for realizing desired performance. Furthermore, the Review explores several applications of all-organic nanocomposites in diverse fields including food packaging, performance-advantaged plastics, and electronic materials. Future research directions-developing sustainable production methods, expanding biomedical applications, and enhancing resistance against heat, chemicals, and radiation of all-organic nanocomposites to permit their use in extreme environments-are explored. This Review offers insights into the potential of all-organic nanocomposites to drive sustainable growth while meeting the demand for high-performance materials across various industries.

Abstract
This comprehensive review investigates a variety of creative approaches in the field of sustainable food packaging biomaterials in response to growing environmental concerns and the negative effects of traditional plastic packaging. The study carefully looks at new developments in biomaterials, such as biodegradable polymers, ceramics, composites, and metal alloys, in response to the growing need for environmentally suitable substitutes. It highlights how they might replace conventional plastic packaging and lessen environmental damage. Moreover, the incorporation of nanotechnology into packaging is closely examined due to its crucial function in improving barrier qualities, introducing antimicrobial properties, and introducing smart packaging features. The investigation includes edible coatings and films made of biodegradable polymers that offer new sensory experiences in addition to prolonging the shelf life of products. The review emphasizes the use of biomaterials derived from food processing and agricultural waste, supporting environmentally responsible methods of producing materials while simultaneously using less resources and waste. As a strong defense against plastic pollution, the report highlights the food industry's increasing use of recyclable and biodegradable packaging, which is in line with the concepts of the circular economy. A movement in consumer tastes and regulatory pressures toward sustainable food packaging is evident in global market patterns. Notwithstanding these encouraging trends, there are still issues to be resolved, including cost-effectiveness, technological constraints, and the scalability of biomaterial production. This thorough analysis concludes by highlighting the critical role biomaterials have played in guiding the food industry toward sustainability and emphasizing the need for ongoing research and development to adequately address environmental issues on a worldwide scale and satisfy the growing demand for environmentally friendly packaging options. Biomaterials show great promise as catalysts for the food industry's transition to a sustainable future.

Abstract
Deterioration of perishable foods due to fungal contamination and lipid peroxidation are the most threatened concern to food industry. Different chemical preservatives have been used to overcome these constrains; however their repetitive use has been cautioned owing to their negative impact after consumption. Therefore, attention has been paid to essential oils (EOs) because of their natural origin and proven antifungal and antioxidant activities. Many EO-based formulations have been in use but their industrial-scale application is still limited, possibly due to its poor solubility, vulnerability towards oxidation, and aroma effect on treated foods. In this sense, active food packaging using biopolymers could be considered as promising approach. The biopolymers can enhance the stability and effectiveness of EOs through controlled release, thus minimizes the deterioration of foods caused by fungal pathogens and oxidation without compromising their sensory properties. This review gives a concise appraisal on latest advances in active food packaging, particularly developed from natural polymers (chitosan, cellulose, cyclodextrins etc.), characteristics of biopolymers, and current status of EOs. Then, different packaging and their effectiveness against fungal pathogens, lipid-oxidation, and sensory properties with recent previous works has been discussed. Finally, effort was made to highlights their safety and commercialization aspects towards market solutions.

Abstract
Importance of nanotechnology may be seen by penetration of its application in diverse areas including the food sector. With investigations and advancements in nanotechnology, based on feedback from these diverse areas, ease, and efficacy are also increasing. The food sector may use nanotechnology to encapsulate smart foods for increased health, wellness, illness prevention, and effective targeted delivery. Such nanoencapsulated targeted delivery systems may further add to the economic and nutritional properties of smart foods like stability, solubility, effectiveness, safeguard against disintegration, permeability, and bioavailability of smart/bioactive substances. But in the way of application, the fabrication of nanomaterials/nanostructures has several challenges which range from figuring out the optimal technique for obtaining them to determining the most suitable form of nanostructure for a bioactive molecule of interest. This review precisely addresses concepts, recent advances in fabrication techniques as well as current challenges/glitches of nanoencapsulation with special reference to smart foods/bioactive components. Since dealing with food materials also raises the quest for safety and regulatory norms a brief overview of the safety and regulatory aspects of nanomaterials/nanoencapsulation is also presented.

Abstract
Polymers originating from natural macromolecule based polymeric materials have gained popularity due to the demand for green resources to develop unique, eco-friendly, and high-quality biopolymers. The objective of this review is to address the utilization of bionanomaterials to improve food quality, safety, security, and shelf life. Bionanomaterials are synthesized by integrating biological molecules with synthetic materials at the nanoscale. Nanostructured materials derived from biopolymers such as cellulose, chitin, or collagen can be employed for the development of sustainable food packaging. Green materials are cost-effective, biocompatible, biodegradable, and renewable. The interaction of nanoparticles with biological macromolecules must be analyzed to determine the properties of the packaging film. The nanoparticles control the growth of bacteria that cause food spoiling by releasing distinctive chemicals. Bio-nanocomposites and nanoencapsulation systems have been used in antimicrobial bio-based packaging solutions to improve the efficiency of synergism. Nanomaterials can regulate gas and moisture permeability, screen UV radiation, and limit microbial contamination, keeping the freshness and flavor of the food. Food packaging based on nanoparticles embedded biopolymers can alleviate environmental concerns by lowering the amount of packaging materials required and enhancing packaging recyclability. This results in less waste and a more eco-sustainable approach to food packaging. The study on current advances in the production of bionanomaterials for development of sustainable food packaging involves a detailed investigation of the available data from existing literature, as well as the compilation and analysis of relevant research results using statistical approaches.

Abstract
In response to the issues of foodborne microbial contamination and carbon neutrality goals, sustainable antimicrobial food packaging (SAFP) composed of renewable or biodegradable biopolymer matrices with ecofriendly antimicrobial agents has emerged. SAFP offers longer effectiveness, wider coverage, more controllability, and better environmental performance. Analyzing SAFP information, including the release profile of each antimicrobial agent for each food, the interaction of each biomass matrix with each food, the material size, form, and preparation methods, and its service quality in real foods, is crucial. While encouraging reports exist, a comprehensive review summarizing these developments is lacking. Therefore, this review critically examines recent release-antimicrobial mechanisms, kinetics models, preparation methods, and key regulatory parameters for SAFPs based on slow- or controlled-release theory. Furthermore, it discusses fundamental physicochemical characteristics, effective concentrations, advantages, release approaches, and antimicrobial and preservative effects of various materials in food simulants or actual food. Lastly, inadequacies and future trends are explored, providing practical references to regulate the movement of active substances in different media, reduce the reliance on petrochemical-based materials, and advance food packaging and preservation technologies.

Abstract
Nanotechnology advances are rapidly spreading through the food science field; however, their major application has been focused on the development of novel packaging materials reinforced with nanoparticles. Bionanocomposites are formed with a bio-based polymeric material incorporated with components at a nanoscale size. These bionanocomposites can also be applied to preparing an encapsulation system aimed at the controlled release of active compounds, which is more related to the development of novel ingredients in the food science and technology field. The fast development of this knowledge is driven by consumer demand for more natural and environmentally friendly products, which explains the preference for biodegradable materials and additives obtained from natural sources. In this review, the latest developments of bionanocomposites for food processing (encapsulation technology) and food packaging applications are gathered.

Abstract
Halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) are naturally occurring nanomaterials with a tubular shape and high aspect ratio, a promising functional additive for active food packaging applications. HNTs have been shown to possess unique properties such as high surface area, thermal stability, and biocompatibility, making them attractive for active food packaging materials. This review summarizes recent research on the use of HNTs as functional additives in active food packaging applications, including antimicrobial packaging, ethylene scavenging packaging, moisture, and gas barrier packaging. The potential benefits and challenges associated with the incorporation of HNTs into food packaging materials are discussed. The various modification methods, such as the physical, chemical, biological, and electrostatic methods, along with their impact on the properties of HNTs, are discussed. The advantages and challenges associated with each modification approach are also evaluated. Overall, the modification of HNTs has opened new possibilities for the development of advanced packaging materials with improved performance for various functional food packaging materials with enhanced properties and extended shelf life.

Abstract
Take-away containers are the common food contact materials (FCMs) that are widely used in daily life. However, little is known regarding the effects of different food simulants on the pollution characteristics of microplastics derived from food containers, as well as the toxic effects of the chemical substances that are leached from them. Extracts were obtained by adding organic solvents into plastic containers (polypropylene, PP; polystyrene, PS) to simulate aqueous, alcoholic, and fatty environments. The extracted substances and their toxic effects were then assessed by counting and characterizing the resulting microplastics and performing bio-acute toxicity assays. The results demonstrated that the highest abundance of microplastics occurred in PS containers in fatty environments, which was likely due to the rough surface of the PS. In contrast, organic solvents seemed more conducive to the migration of substances. Furthermore, the PP and PS extracts in an alcohol and fatty environment have significant impacts on zebrafish embryo development, including arrhythmia, pericardial cysts, and spinal curvature.

Abstract
Nanotechnology, contrary to its name, has massively revolutionized industries around the world. This paper predominantly deals with data regarding the applications of nanotechnology in the modernization of several industries. A comprehensive research strategy is adopted to incorporate the latest data driven from major science platforms. Resultantly, a broad-spectrum overview is presented which comprises the diverse applications of nanotechnology in modern industries. This study reveals that nanotechnology is not limited to research labs or small-scale manufacturing units of nanomedicine, but instead has taken a major share in different industries. Companies around the world are now trying to make their innovations more efficient in terms of structuring, working, and designing outlook and productivity by taking advantage of nanotechnology. From small-scale manufacturing and processing units such as those in agriculture, food, and medicine industries to larger-scale production units such as those operating in industries of automobiles, civil engineering, and environmental management, nanotechnology has manifested the modernization of almost every industrial domain on a global scale. With pronounced cooperation among researchers, industrialists, scientists, technologists, environmentalists, and educationists, the more sustainable development of nano-based industries can be predicted in the future.

Abstract
Abstract
Research on bionanocomposites has been developed, while its application as food packaging is still being explored. They are usually made from natural polymers such as cellulose acetate, chitosan (CS), and polyvinyl alcohol. Bionanocomposite materials can replace traditional non-biodegradable plastic packaging materials, enabling them to use new, high-performance, lightweight, and environmentally friendly composite materials. However, this natural polymer has a weakness in mechanical properties. Therefore, a composite system is needed that will improve the properties of the biodegradable food packaging. The aim of this mini-review is to demonstrate recent progress in the synthesis, modification, characterization, and application of bionanocomposites reported by previous researchers. The focus is on the preparation and characterization of CS-based bionanocomposites. The mechanical properties of CS-based food packaging can be improved by adding reinforcement from inorganic materials such as organoclay. Meanwhile, the anti-bacterial properties of CS-based food packaging can be improved by adding nanoparticles such as Ag and ZnO.

Abstract
The interest of the food packaging industry in biodegradable, recyclable, and functional materials has steadily increased in recent years. The use of hydrogels in the food sector holds great potential for use in packaging systems or as carriers for bioactive substances. The synthesis of an oxygen barrier coating of prolaminic silica material and antimicrobial functionalization with fumaric acid for packaging materials described here is an elegant way to meet these requirements. The developed material achieved a significant antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, two common clinical pathogens. Another pre-requisite of such materials is a high biocompatibility, which can be assessed using human cell models, to help ensure consumer safety. The biocompatibility was determined by luminescence adenosine triphosphate and photometric lactate dehydrogenase assays. No cytotoxic effects on human keratinocytes in vitro were found for the test materials.

Abstract
This article investigates and presents the upshots observed in the brook of hybrid composites especially, the current investigation focuses on the impact of fiber composition, sequence, and stacking pattern on composite mechanical Features. Five varied stacking sequences of hybrid composites encompassing laminates are used to create four classes of fiber with jute/bamboo/glass by utilizing a conscientious hand lay-up process with glass fiber-laced mats as their peripheral layer. For examination, fiber sequences are arranged in the combination of GJBJG, GBJBG, GJGJG, and GBGBG, where G, J, and B refer to glass fiber, jute fiber, and bamboo fiber, respectively. The position of fiber in the core layer is kept in a perpendicular direction with respect to adjacent piles which might be jute or bamboo fiber and the best position of fiber is considered due to the stacking order. Stress and strain were linear in the load versus deflection curves, and all of the samples failed quickly, it is observed that the sample containing a higher or considerable number of bamboo fiber layers exhibited increased strain and toughness. In comparison to other samples, embolism of glass fiber as the main and covering layer expressed a higher impact on the mechanical properties of the composites is observed in this investigation. The shattered sample morphology demonstrated that the matrix and reinforcements were compatible.

Abstract
The textile industry can benefit from nanotechnology as new properties are conferred on functionalized nanotextiles beyond what a fabric can traditionally offer. These properties include extermination of microorganisms by nanotextiles to curtail their growth and dissemination in the environment and in healthcare facilities. The emergence and thriving of multi-drug resistance (MDR) phenomenon among microbes are threats at achieving good health and well-being (goal 3) of sustainable development goals (SDG) of UN. In addition, MDR strains emerge at a higher rate than the frequency of discovery and production of potent antimicrobial drugs. Therefore, there is need for innovative approach to tackle MDR. Among recent innovations is functionalization of textiles with metal nanoparticles to kill microorganisms. This paper explores strategies in nanotextile production to combat emerging diseases in the 21st century. We discussed different nanotextiles with proven antimicrobial activities, and their applications as air filters, sportswear, personal wears, nose masks, health care and medical fabrics. This compendium highlights frontiers of applications of antimicrobial nanotextiles that can extend multidisciplinary research endeavours towards achieving good health and well-being. Until now, there exists no review on exploitation of nanotextiles to combat MDR pathogens as included in this report.

Abstract
In the past few decades, nanotechnology has been receiving significant attention globally and is being continuously developed in various innovations for diverse applications, such as tissue engineering, biotechnology, biomedicine, textile, and food technology. Nanotechnological materials reportedly lack cell-interactive properties and are easily degraded into unfavourable products due to the presence of synthetic polymers in their structures. This is a major drawback of nanomaterials and is a cause of concern in the biomedicine field. Meanwhile, particulate systems, such as metallic nanoparticles (NPs), have captured the interest of the medical field due to their potential to inhibit the growth of microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, and viruses). Lately, researchers have shown a great interest in hydrogels in the biomedicine field due to their ability to retain and release drugs as well as to offer a moist environment. Hence, the development and innovation of hydrogel-incorporated metallic NPs from natural sources has become one of the alternative pathways for elevating the efficiency of therapeutic systems to make them highly effective and with fewer undesirable side effects. The objective of this review article is to provide insights into the latest fabricated metallic nanocomposite hydrogels and their current applications in the biomedicine field using nanotechnology and to discuss the limitations of this technology for future exploration. This article gives an overview of recent metallic nanocomposite hydrogels fabricated from bioresources, and it reviews their antimicrobial activities in facilitating the demands for their application in biomedicine. The work underlines the fabrication of various metallic nanocomposite hydrogels through the utilization of natural sources in the production of biomedical innovations, including wound healing treatment, drug delivery, scaffolds, etc. The potential of these nanocomposites in relation to their mechanical strength, antimicrobial activities, cytotoxicity, and optical properties has brought this technology into a new dimension in the biomedicine field. Finally, the limitations of metallic nanocomposite hydrogels in terms of their methods of synthesis, properties, and outlook for biomedical applications are further discussed.

Abstract
Nanotechnology has facilitated the development of active food packaging systems with functions that could not be achieved by their traditional counterparts. Such smart and active systems can improve the shelf life of perishable products and overcome major bottlenecks associated with the fabrication of safe and environmentally friendly food packaging systems. Herein, we used a plasma-enabled surface modification strategy to fabricate biodegradable and flexible nanoporous polycaprolactone-based (FNP) films for food packaging systems. Their capacity for preserving tomatoes, tangerines, and bananas at room and refrigeration temperatures was tested by analyzing various fruit parameters (mold generation, appearance changes, freshness, weight loss, firmness, and total soluble solids contents). Compared with commonly used polyethylene terephthalate-based containers, the proposed system enhanced the fruit storage quality (i.e., retained appearance, reduced weight loss, better firmness, and sugar contents) by controlling moisture evaporation and inhibiting mold generation. Thus, the FNP film represents a new active food packaging strategy.

Abstract
The purpose of this work was to evaluate Spanish consumers' opinions on using nanotechnology in food processing and packaging. For this purpose, a literature review was carried out in the main research database to determine the most widespread uses of nanotechnology in the food industry and the most promising developments. Of all the nanotechnology uses in food, five areas of application were identified: developing new ingredients or additives, formulating new antimicrobial systems, and designing new processing methods, sensors and packaging with nanostructured materials. Subsequently, a consumers' opinion study was carried out by means of a survey, in which the opinions and purchase intention of a representative product of all five categories were evaluated, as well as the neophobia level to new food technologies. All the products obtained positive evaluations, and the applications in which nanotechnology did not form part of food were generally better valued than those in which it did form part. The respondents had a medium neophobia level, with an average score of 4.59 (out of 7 points), being consumers with more knowledge about new technologies the least neophobic and those who gave products higher scores. This study provides relevant information for using nanotechnology in the food processing and packaging sector.

Abstract
In recent years, rapid development in the industrial sector has offered console to the people but at the same time, generates numerous amounts of effluent composed of toxic elements like nitrogen, phosphorus, hydrocarbons, and heavy metals that influences the environment and mankind hazardously. While the technological advancements are made in industrial effluent treatment, there arising stretch in the techniques directing on hybrid system that are effective in resource recovery from effluent in an economical, less time consuming and viable manner. The key objective of this article is to study, propose and deliberate the process and products obtained from different industries and the quantity of effluents produced, and the most advanced and ultra-modern theoretical and scientific improvements in treatment methods to remove those dissolved matter and toxic substances and also the challenges and perspectives in these developments. The findings of this review appraise new eco-friendly technologies, provide intuition into the efficiency in contaminants removal and aids in interpreting degradation mechanism of toxic elements by various treatment assemblages.

Abstract
Functional bionanocomposites have evoked immense research interests in many fields including biomedicine, food packaging, and environmental applications. Supramolecular self-assembled bionanocomposite materials fabricated by biopolymers and two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials have particularly emerged as a compelling material due to their biodegradable nature, hierarchical structures, and designable multifunctions. However, construction of these materials with tunable properties has been still challenging. Here, we report a self-assembled, flexible, and antioxidative collagen nanocomposite film (CNF) via regulating supramolecular interactions of type I collagen and tannic acid (TA)-functionalized 2D synthetic clay nanoplatelets Laponite (LAP). Specifically, TA-coordinated LAP (LAP-TA) complexes were obtained via chelation and hydrogen bonding between TA and LAP clay nanoplatelets and further used to stabilize the triple-helical confirmation and fibrillar structure of the collagen via hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions, forming a hierarchical microstructure. The obtained transparent CNF not only exhibited the reinforced thermal stability, enzymatic resistance, tensile strength, and hydrophobicity but also good water vapor permeability and antioxidation. For example, the tensile strength was improved by over 2000%, and the antioxidant property was improved by 71%. Together with the simple fabrication process, we envision that the resulting CNF provides greater opportunities for versatile bionanocomposites design and fabrication serving as a promising candidate for emerging applications, especially food packaging and smart wearable devices.

Abstract
Innovations and research on packaging materials are in a fast-growing stage to make them suitable for advanced packaging innovations and sustainability efforts. Biological macromolecules like algal polysaccharides, chitosan, gelatin and others like starch are explored for developing eco-friendly packaging alternatives. Compared to conventional synthetic polymers they have performance limitations that are tried to be overcome with added fillers. The unique properties of fillers in the nano range are explored for this. They can improve the overall property of polymer matrixes by improving barrier properties to oxygen and water vapour, increasing stability and mechanical strength. Exploring the possibilities of new nanoparticle-polymer combinations can bring novel properties in the packaging industry that can be used in smart and intelligent packaging areas. Thus studies on nanocomposite films from polysaccharides, protein compounds and nanoparticles can help to overcome the limitations of bio-polymers for novel packaging applications. This review covers the effect of nanoparticles on the optical, morphological, barrier, thermal and mechanical properties of polysaccharides and proteins based packaging film, along with the types of nanoparticles used in the composite films.

Abstract
With an increasing demand for a novel, eco-friendly, high-performance packaging material "bio-nanocomposites" has attracted great attention in recent years. The review article aims at to evaluating recent innovation in bio-nanocomposites for food packaging applications. The current trends and research over the last three years of the various bio-nanocomposites including inorganic, organic nanomaterials, and nanohybrids, which are suitable as food packaging materials due to their advanced properties such as high mechanical, thermal, barrier, antimicrobial, and antioxidant are described in detail. In addition, the legislation, migration studies, and SWOT analysis on bio-nanocomposite film have been discussed. It has been observed that the multifunctional properties of the bio-nanocomposite materials, has the potential to improve the quality and safety of the food together with no /or fewer negative impact on the environment. However, more studies need to be performed on bio-nanocomposite materials to determine the migration levels and formulate relevant legislation.

Abstract
This review aims to (i) provide a current overview of the main characteristics of SiNP (physical and chemical properties, applications, and emissions), (ii) evaluate the scientific production up to date concerning SiNP, with focus on their toxic effects, through a bibliometric analysis, (iii) describe the main toxic mechanisms of SiNP, (iv) assess the current knowledge about ecotoxicity of SiNP on aquatic organisms (marine and freshwater), and (v) identify the main gaps in the knowledge of SiNP toxicity from an environmentally point of view. The scientific production of SiNP concerning their chemical and physical characteristics has increased exponentially. However, little information is available regarding their ecotoxicity. Particle functionalization is a key factor that reduces SiNP toxicity. Most of the studies employed standard species as test organisms, being the local/native ones poorly represented. Further studies employing long-term exposures and environmentally relevant concentrations are needed to deepen the knowledge about this emergent pollutant.

Abstract
Numerous foods, plants, and their bioactive constituents (BACs), named nutraceuticals and phytochemicals by experts, have shown many beneficial effects including antifungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiulcer, anti-cholesterol, hypoglycemic, immunomodulatory, and antioxidant activities. Producers, consumers, and the market of food- and plant-related compounds are increasingly attracted by health-promoting foods and plants, thus requiring a wider and more fruitful exploitation of the healthy properties of their BACs. The demand for new BACs and for the development of novel functional foods and BACs-based food additives is pressing from various sectors. Unfortunately, low stability, poor water solubility, opsonization, and fast metabolism in vivo hinder the effective exploitation of the potential of BACs. To overcome these issues, researchers have engineered nanomaterials, obtaining food-grade delivery systems, and edible food- and plant-related nanoparticles (NPs) acting as color, flavor, and preservative additives and natural therapeutics. Here, we have reviewed the nanotechnological transformations of several BACs implemented to increase their bioavailability, to mask any unpleasant taste and flavors, to be included as active ingredients in food or food packaging, to improve food appearance, quality, and resistance to deterioration due to storage. The pending issue regarding the possible toxic effect of NPs, whose knowledge is still limited, has also been discussed.

Abstract
In order to clarify the effect of nanocomposite-based packaging (NP) on umami and microflora characteristics of F. filiformis during cold storage, the contents of umami amino acids and 5'-nucleotides, equivalent umami concentration (EUC), and microflora succession were investigated. Results showed that NP could delay the degradation of umami components and inhibit bacterial growth in F. filiformis. At the initial stage, the dominant bacteria were Lactobacillus, Thermus and Acinetobacter. After 15 days of storage, the bacteria count in NP reached 7.63 lg cfu/g, which was significantly (P < 0.05) lower than that in control, and the major bacterial communities of packaged F. filiformis were Ewingella, Serratia and Pseudomonas. Moreover, the correlation analysis showed that Lactobacillus, Brevibacillus and Okibacterium were negatively correlated with AMP and IMP 5-nucleotides. Present work suggested that NP could enhance the umami flavor formation and improve the microbial community structure of F. filiformis, resulting in a better commercial quality. The results provided theoretical basis for large-scale applications of NP.

Abstract
Food packaging encompasses the topical role of preserving food, hence, extending the shelf-life, while ensuring the highest quality and safety along the production chain as well as during storage. Intelligent food packaging further develops the functions of traditional packages by introducing the capability of continuously monitoring food quality during the whole chain to assess and reduce the insurgence of food-borne disease and food waste. To this purpose, several sensing systems based on different food quality indicators have been proposed in recent years, but commercial applications remain a challenge. This review provides a critical summary of responsive systems employed in the real-time monitoring of food quality and preservation state. First, food quality indicators are briefly presented, and subsequently, their exploitation to fabricate intelligent packaging based on responsive materials is discussed. Finally, current challenges and future trends are reviewed to highlight the importance of concentrating efforts on developing new functional solutions.

Abstract
Two types of nanocomposite films, polyethylene/silver (PE/Ag) and polypropylene/silver (PP/Ag), were prepared and characterised. Assessment of silver released under the effect of ionising irradiation was performed on the nanocomposite films. The release experiment was carried out by immersing the nanocomposite films in water, 3% acetic acid or 95% ethanol as food simulants and measuring the Ag release from nanocomposite films treated with and without gamma or electron beam irradiation at a dose of 10 kGy. In general, irradiation treatment increased the Ag release regardless of the type of polymer and food simulant. One reason could be radiation-induced metal oxidation at the surface which in turn promoted ion release into food simulants. The oxidising radicals produced by radiation in solution could be another factor speeding up metal oxidation and subsequent ion release. When comparisons were made between the two types of irradiation, greater Ag release into water and 3% acetic acid was observed after electron beam irradiation, while gamma irradiation was likely to induce greater Ag release into 95% ethanol. Such phenomena reveal the influence of different types of radiation on the solutions which in turn affect the Ag release.

Abstract
Market implementation of active and intelligent packaging (AIP) technologies specifically for fiber-based food packaging can be hindered by various factors. This paper highlights those from a social, economic, environmental, and legislative point of view, and elaborates upon the following aspects mainly related to interactions among food packaging value chain stakeholders: (i) market drivers that affect developments, (ii) the gap between science and industry, (iii) the gap between legislation and practice, (iv) cooperation between the producing stakeholders within the value chain, and (v) the gap between the industry and consumers. We perceive these as the most influential aspects in successful market implementation at a socioeconomic level. The findings are supported by results from quantitative studies analyzing consumer buying expectations about active and intelligent packaging (value perception of packaging functions, intentions to purchase AIP, and willingness to pay more) executed in 16 European countries. Finally, in this paper, we discuss approaches that could direct future activities in the field towards industrial implementation.

Abstract
Cellulose is one of the most abundantly available natural polymers. Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) belongs to the cellulose family and has different degrees of substitution. Current research comprises the fabrication and characterization of CMC nanofibers using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as capping agents and carriers for sustainable food packaging applications. Recently authors successfully fabricated smooth and uniform nanofibers of stated polymers and optimized the ratios of three polymers for continuous production. However, in this research, it was further characterized for mechanical properties, surface properties, structural properties, air permeability, and chemical properties to confirm the suitability and scope of tri-component nanofibrous mats in food packaging applications. Different fruits and vegetables were packed in a plastic container and closed by nanofiber mats and by a plastic lid. All samples were observed after a specific period of time (fruits were kept for 40 days while vegetables were kept for 10 days in the controlled environment). It was observed in the results that fruits and vegetables closed by nanofiber based webs exhibited better freshness and lower accumulation of moisture as compared to that of containers with plastic lids. From the results of performed tests, it was observed that nanofiber mats possess enough mechanical, structural, and morphological properties to be used as food packaging.

Abstract
There is a strong drive in industry for packaging solutions that contribute to sustainable development by targeting a circular economy, which pivots around the recyclability of the packaging materials. The aim is to reduce traditional plastic consumption and achieve high recycling efficiency while maintaining the desired barrier and mechanical properties. In this domain, packaging materials in the form of polymer nanocomposites (PNCs) can offer the desired functionalities and can be a potential replacement for complex multilayered polymer structures. There has been an increasing interest in nanocomposites for food packaging applications, with a five-fold rise in the number of published articles during the period 2010–2019. The barrier, mechanical, and thermal properties of the polymers can be significantly improved by incorporating low concentrations of nanofillers. Furthermore, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties can be introduced, which are very relevant for food packaging applications. In this review, we will present an overview of the nanocomposite materials for food packaging applications. We will briefly discuss different nanofillers, methods to incorporate them in the polymer matrix, and surface treatments, with a special focus on the barrier, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties. On the practical side migration issues, consumer acceptability, recyclability, and toxicity aspects will also be discussed.
