Abstract
The present study aimed to investigate the impact of Sparassis latifolia polysaccharides (SLPs) on hepatic immune function in cyclophosphamide (CTX)-induced immunocompromised mice. Our findings demonstrated that SLPs effectively suppressed the production of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), inflammatory factors, and acute phase proteins, while improving the hepatic oxidative stress state. Additionally, SLPs exerted inhibitory effects on inflammatory cell infiltration within hepatic tissue. Transcriptomic results revealed that 246 differentially-expressed genes (DEGs) were identified. Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis showed that the more DEGs in SLPs group were mainly related to immune signal transduction and metabolism pathways. And more DEGs were mainly related to MAPK signaling pathway and JAK/STAT signaling pathway. Metabolome analysis demonstrated that SLPs significantly modulated specific metabolites in the liver, including lipids and lipid-like molecules, organic acids and their derivatives, organic heterocyclic compounds, phenylpropanoids and polyketones, organic oxygenates, and benzene. The comprehensive analysis of transcriptome and metabonomics revealed the activation of immune-related signal pathways in mice liver stimulated by CTX. Notably, the involvement of diverse genes and metabolites was observed in the metabolism of arachidonic acid (AA) and JAK/STAT pathway. Correlation analysis also showed that there was a certain correlation between metabolites and differential genes. The present findings offer novel insights into the regulatory mechanism of liver immune injury by SLPs, which exhibits potential application value in improving immunocompromised populations.

Abstract
Maternal metabolic intensity significantly increases during late gestation and lactation, placing significant stress on cells and tissues. This heightened metabolic demand can lead to inflammatory responses and metabolic disorders, adversely affecting the health of both the mother and her offspring. Diet plays a key role in modulating host health by influencing the gastrointestinal microbiome. This study examined the impact of two roughage sources, corn straw (CS), and alfalfa hay (AH), on ewes and their offspring during late gestation and lactation, with a focus on metabolism, immunity, and the microbiome. Thirty-six multiparous Inner Mongolia cashmere goats, approximately 60 days pregnant, were assigned to CS and AH groups. Samples were collected from the ewes on day 140 of gestation (G140) and day 28 of lactation (L28) for analysis. The results showed that ewes fed AH had reduced body weight loss during lactation (p < 0.05), and increased serum metabolic factors levels (p < 0.05). Additionally, ewes in the AH group exhibited a reduced inflammatory response during both gestation and lactation compared to those in the CS group, as evidenced by a significant decrease in TNF-α and LPS levels and a notable increase in IL-10 (p < 0.05). The rumen microbiomes of ewes in the AH and CS groups exhibited stark differences, with specific microbial markers identified at G140 and L28. Correlation analysis revealed associations between microbiome, volatile fatty acids, cytokines, and metabolic markers. The analysis of the lambs demonstrated that their immune status and microbial composition were significantly influenced by the immune health and microbial community structure of the ewe. Moreover, microbial and immune-related components from the ewes were transmitted to the lambs, further shaping their immune development and rumen microbiota. Overall, different roughage sources during late gestation and lactation had minimal impact on the growth performance of ewes and lambs, given that both diets were iso-nitrogen and iso-energetic. However, ewes fed AH exhibited significant improvements in immune function and overall health for both them and their lambs.

Abstract
Some polysaccharides with established medical and nutritional values have been identified to possess immunomodulatory properties devoid of any toxic or adverse effects. Previous studies have demonstrated that water-soaked polysaccharides from the skin of white asparagus can enhance cytokine release in RAW 264.7 macrophages, however, the underlying mechanism governing immune regulation remains elusive. In this study, we obtained a lower molecular weight polysaccharide (AP) through acid extraction, with an average MW of approximately 9.5 kDa. SEM and AFM spectroscopy analysis revealed well-dispersed spherical particle with triple helix conformation for AP, characterized by intertwined branching structures. Treatment with AP resulted in a time-dependent increase in nitric oxide levels and cytokine production in both RAW 264.7 cells and primary peritoneal macrophages. RNA-seq analysis indicated that AP activated macrophages via NLRP3 inflammasome signaling pathway. Furthermore, AP activated MAPKs and JAK/STAT signaling pathways to amplify the inflammatory response. Additionally, administration of AP improved visceral index and reduced inflammatory cell counts in CYP-induced immunosuppressed mice models. These findings suggest that AP holds potential as an immuno-enhancement mediator, wherein MAPK and JAK/STAT3 signaling pathways play a role in NLRP3 inflammasome activation of macrophages.

Abstract
Overtraining affects individuals engaged in high-volume training, potentially hindering athletic performance and revealing shortcomings in suggested solutions. This study evaluated the impact of konjac glucomannan (KGM) with varying molecular weights on the gut microbiome, endurance, and strength in mice subjected to excessive training. The native KGM (1.82 × 107 Da) was enzymatically degraded using endo-1,4-β-mannanase to generate moderate molecular weight KGM (KGM-EM, 1.89 × 105 Da) and low molecular weight KGM (KGM-EL, 1.34 × 104 Da). These fractions were characterized and compared with the native KGM regarding their effects on mice undergoing excessive training. The results demonstrated a positive correlation between KGM's molecular weight and its capacity to mitigate the adverse impacts of excessive training on strength or/and endurance (a significant increase of 55.57 % and 55.70 % by the native KGM compared with the excessive training group). In addition, the native KGM exhibited superior preservation of microbial diversity and composition in fecal samples against excessive training-induced shifts, along with increased production of individual and total short-chain fatty acids in plasma compared with the two degraded products. Overall, these results highlight the potential benefits of high molecular weight KGM for preventing overtraining syndrome and enhancing athletic performance in animal models.

Abstract
Medicago sativa polysaccharides (MSPs) are beneficial compounds extracted from Medicago sativa L. that exhibit multiple medicinal activities. However, little is known about their hypoglycemic effects. In this study, MSP-II-a, a neutral polysaccharide with an Mw of 4.3×104 Da, was isolated and purified from M. sativa L. Monosaccharide composition analysis determined that MSP-II-a was composed of arabinose, glucose, galactose, mannose, rhamnose, and xylose in a molar ratio of 2.1 : 4.0 : 1.1:0.4 : 1.4 : 1.1. Structural characterization of MSP-II was performed using a combination of methylation analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that MSP-II-a was mainly comprised of 1,4-p-Glc, 1,3,4-Rha, and 1,3-p-Gal glycosidic linkages, revealing a mesh-like texture with irregular blade shapes. In vitro assays demonstrated that MSP-II-a, at concentrations of 200 and 400 μg/mL, promoted glucose uptake in insulin-resistant 3T3-L1 adipocytes. In vivo studies have shown that MSP-II-a significantly alleviates insulin resistance by reducing fasting blood glucose levels and increasing hepatic glycogen synthesis in HFD/STZ-induced diabetic mice. These findings revealed that MSP-II-a is a promising source of bioactive polysaccharides with potential hypoglycemic activity.

Abstract
In China, the processing of prickly ash (PA) produces a large number of by-products, including prickly ash seeds (PASs), which are rich in bioactive components such as flavonoids and phenolic compounds, and which may have an important influence on meat quality and muscle metabolites. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the impact of dietary PAS supplementation on the meat quality, antioxidant activity, and metabolite characteristics of lambs. Eighteen 3-month-old Hu lambs (25.66 ± 3.03 kg body weight) were randomly allotted to three different dietary treatment groups. In the three dietary treatments, 0% (basal diet, CON), 3% (CON with 3% PAS, low-dose PAS, and LPS), and 6% (CON with 6% PAS, high-dose PAS, and HPS) PASs were used. Results indicated significant improvements in the HPS group, including reduced cooking loss and increased fat content. The L* and b* 45 min values were significantly lower in the PAS groups than those in the CON group (p < 0.05). Additionally, dietary PAS supplementation increased in MUFA, PUFA, n-3 PUFA, PUFA/MUFA ratio, NEAA, and FFA compared to the CON group. Furthermore, PAS supplementation significantly improved serum and muscle antioxidant capacity. Metabolomic analyses revealed that increased metabolites, such as tryptophan, leucine, citric acid, adenosine 5'-triphosphate, creatine phosphate, inosine, and α-ketoglutaric acid, were primarily enriched in the biosynthesis of cofactors and nucleotide and purine metabolism pathways. Notably, supplementation with 6% of PASs exhibited the most prominent effect on lamb meat quality in this study. Therefore, the application of PASs as a feed component in lamb production can not only improve meat quality and muscle antioxidant capacity but also save feed costs.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Chuanminshen violaceum M. L. Sheh & R. H. Shan (CV) is used as a medicine with roots, which have the effects of benefiting the lungs, harmonizing the stomach, resolving phlegm and detoxifying. Polysaccharide is one of its main active components and has various pharmacological activities, but the structural characterization and pharmacological activities of polysaccharide from the stems and leaves parts of CV are still unclear. AIM OF THE STUDY The aim of this study was to investigate the optimal extraction conditions for ultrasound-assisted extraction of polysaccharide from CV stems and leaves, and to carry out preliminary structural analyses, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of the obtained polysaccharide and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms. MATERIALS AND METHODS The ultrasonic-assisted extraction of CV stems and leaves polysaccharides was carried out, and the response surface methodology (RSM) was used to optimize the extraction process to obtain CV polysaccharides (CVP) under the optimal conditions. Subsequently, we isolated and purified CVP to obtain the homogeneous polysaccharide CVP-AP-I, and evaluated the composition, molecular weight, and structural features of CVP-AP-I using a variety of technical methods. Finally, we tested the pharmacological activity of CVP-AP-Ⅰ in an LPS-induced model of oxidative stress and inflammation in intestinal porcine epithelial cells (IPEC-J2) and explored its possible mechanism of action. RESULTS The crude polysaccharide was obtained under optimal extraction conditions and subsequently isolated and purified to obtain CVP-AP-Ⅰ (35.34 kDa), and the structural characterization indicated that CVP-AP-Ⅰ was mainly composed of galactose, galactose, rhamnose and glucose, which was a typical pectic polysaccharide. In addition, CVP-AP-Ⅰ attenuates LPS-induced inflammation and oxidative stress by inhibiting the expression of pro-inflammatory factor genes and proteins and up-regulating the expression of antioxidant enzyme-related genes and proteins in IPEC-J2, by a mechanism related to the activation of the Nrf2/Keap1 signaling pathway. CONCLUSION The results of this study suggest that the polysaccharide isolated from CV stems and leaves was a pectic polysaccharide with similar pharmacological activities as CV roots, exhibiting strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities, suggesting that CV stems and leaves could possess the same traditional efficacy as CV roots, which is expected to be used in the treatment of intestinal diseases.

Abstract
The intestinal architecture of piglets is vulnerable to disruption during weaning transition and leads to diarrhea, frequently accompanied by inflammation and metabolic disturbances (including amino acid metabolism). Tryptophan (Trp) plays an essential role in orchestrating intestinal immune tolerance through its metabolism via the kynurenine, 5-hydroxytryptamine, or indole pathways, which could be dictated by the gut microbiota either directly or indirectly. Emerging evidence suggests a strong association between piglet diarrhea and Trp metabolism. Here we aim to summarize the intricate balance of microbiota-host crosstalk by analyzing alterations in both the host and microbial pathways of Trp and discuss how Trp metabolism may affect piglet diarrhea. Overall, this review could provide valuable insights to explore effective strategies for managing piglet diarrhea and the related challenges.

Abstract
Excessive exercise without adequate rest can lead to overtraining syndrome, which manifests a series of side effects, including fatigue, gut dysbiosis, and decremental sports performance. Konjac glucomannan (KGM) is a plant polysaccharide with numerous health-improving effects, but few studies reported its effects on the gut microbiome, endurance, and strength in an overtraining model. This study assessed the effect of KGM on gut microbiome, endurance, and strength in mice with excessive exercise. Three doses of KGM (1.25, 2.50, and 5.00 mg/mL) were administrated in drinking water to mice during 42 days of a treadmill overtraining program. The results showed that excessive exercise induced a significant microbial shift compared with the control group, while a high dose (5.00 mg/mL) of KGM maintained the microbial composition. The proportion of Sutterella in feces was significantly increased in the excessive exercise group, while the moderate dose (2.50 mg/mL) of KGM dramatically increased the relative abundance of Lactobacillus and SCFA production in feces. Additionally, the moderate dose and high dose of KGM counteracted the negative effects of excessive exercise on strength or/and endurance (43.14% and 39.94% increase through a moderate dose of KGM, Bonferroni corrected p < 0.05, compared with the excessive exercise group). Therefore, it suggests that KGM could prevent overtraining and improve sports performance in animal models.

Abstract
To obtain the structure-function relationship of the polysaccharides derived from areca (Areca catechu L.) inflorescences in the aspect of its immunomodulatory ability, the plant-based polysaccharide was isolated and purified on column chromatography. The purity, primary structure and immune activity of four polysaccharide fractions (AFP, AFP1, AFP2 and AFP2a) were characterized comprehensively. The main chain of AFP2a was confirmed to be composed of → 3,6)-β-D-Galp-(1→, with branch chains linked to the O-3 position on the main chain. The immunomodulatory activity of the polysaccharides was evaluated using the RAW264.7 cells and immunosuppression mice model. It was observed that AFP2a enabled greater NO release (49.72 μmol/L) than other fractions, significantly promoted the phagocytic activity of macrophages, and improved splenocyte proliferation and T lymphocyte phenotype in mice. The present results may shine a light on a new research direction in immunoenhancers and provide a theoretical foundation for the development and application of areca inflorescence.

Abstract
Microcin C7 (McC) as a viable immunomodulator peptide can be a potential solution for pathogenic microbial infection in the post-antibiotic era and has gained substantial attention. This study was designed to evaluate the immunomodulatory activity of Microcin C7 in a cyclophosphamide (CTX)-induced immunodeficient mouse model. We show that Microcin C7 treatment significantly alleviated the CTX-caused body weight loss, improved the feed and water consumption to improve the state of the mice, and elevated the absolute number and proportion of peripheral blood lymphocytes as well as the level of hemoglobulin. We further aim to characterize the phenotypes of the immune function and intestinal health profiles. The results demonstrate that Microcin C7 treatment increased serum levels of immunoglobulin A (IgA), IgG, interleukin 6, and hemolysin, promoted splenic lymphocyte proliferation induced by concanavalin A and LPS, and enhanced the phagocytosis of peritoneal macrophages immunized by sheep red blood cells. Additionally, Microcin C7 treatment decreased levels of diamine oxidase and d-lactate, ameliorated CTX-induced intestinal morphological damage, and increased the levels of zonula occluden 1, occludin, claudin-1, mucin 2, and secretary IgA in the jejunum and colon. Moreover, Microcin C7 administration is sufficient to reverse CTX-induced intestinal microbiota dysbiosis by increasing the number of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, decreasing the number of Escherichia coli in colonic contents. Collectively, our results demonstrate that Microcin C7 may have protective and immunomodulatory functions and could be a potential candidate used in animal feed, functional foods, and immunological regimens..

Abstract
Consumer demand for tasty and quality meat has been quickly increasing. This study investigated how dietary supplemented rutin affects meat quality, muscle fatty acid profile, and antioxidant capacity in the Chinese indigenous Qingyuan partridge chicken. A cohort of 180 healthy 119-day-old chickens was subjected to a randomized assignment into three groups, identified as the control, R200, and R400 groups, with respective supplementation of 0, 200, and 400 mg/kg of rutin. The results revealed insignificance in growth performance, namely, average daily gain, average daily feed intake, and feed-to-gain ratio, across the various treatment groups (p > 0.05). Nevertheless, dietary rutin supplementation increased (p < 0.05) breast muscle yield and intramuscular fat content in breast muscle and decreased (p < 0.05) drip loss in breast muscle. Rutin supplementation increased (p < 0.05) the content of high-density lipoprotein but decreased (p < 0.05) the contents of glucose, triglyceride, and total cholesterol in serum. Rutin supplementation increased (p < 0.05) the levels of DHA (C22:6n-3), total polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), n-3 PUFAs, decanoic acid (C10:0), the activity of Δ5 + Δ6 (22:6 (n - 3)/18:3 (n - 3)), and the ratio of PUFA/SFA in breast muscle but decreased (p < 0.05) the level of palmitoleic acid (C16:1n-7), the ratio of n-6/n-3 PUFAs, and the activity of Δ9 (16:1 (n - 7)/16:0). Rutin treatment also reduced (p < 0.05) the contents of malondialdehyde in serum and breast muscle, and increased (p < 0.05) the catalase activity and total antioxidant capacity in serum and breast muscle and the activity of total superoxide dismutase in serum. Additionally, rutin supplementation downregulated the expression of AMPKα and upregulated the expression of PPARG, FADS1, FAS, ELOVL7, NRF2, and CAT in breast muscle (p < 0.05). Convincingly, the results revealed that rutin supplementation improved meat quality, fatty acid profiles, especially n-3 PUFAs, and the antioxidant capacity of Qingyuan partridge chickens.

Abstract
In this study, the decolorization conditions of polysaccharides extracted from alfalfa by S-8 macroporous adsorption resin were optimized through the response surface method, and the physicochemical properties and antioxidant activity of decolorized polysaccharides were investigated. The optimal decolorization conditions were determined to be as follows: the amount of S-8 macroporous adsorption resin was 1.4 g, the adsorption time was 2 h, and the adsorption temperature was 58 °C. Under these optimal conditions, a decolorization ratio of 71.43 ± 0.23% was achieved, which was consistent with the model hypothesis. The adsorption curve showed that S-8 macroporous adsorption resin adsorption of pigment molecules in alfalfa polysaccharides (APS) agreed with the Freundlich and pseudo-second-order equations, and the adsorption was a spontaneous endothermic process. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis of monosaccharide composition showed that APS was composed of mannose, glucose, galactose, arabinose and glucuronic acid in a molar ratio of 1.18 : 8.04 : 1.22 : 0.92 : 1. The results of antioxidant activity studies showed that APS had strong scavenging activity against ABTS, DPPH and hydroxyl radicals. This study will help to further understand the adsorption mechanism of macroporous resin on polysaccharide pigment molecules and lay a basis for evaluating their physiological activity.

Abstract
Hericium erinaceus is a kind of large fungus with rich nutrition and its polysaccharides exhibit various biological activities. In recent years, widespread interest has been focused on maintaining or improving intestinal health through the consumption of edible fungi. Studies have shown that hypoimmunity can damage the intestinal barrier, which in turn seriously affects human health. The aim of this work was to investigate the ameliorative effects of Hericium erinaceus polysaccharides (HEPs) on intestinal barrier damage in cyclophosphamide (CTX)-induced immunocompromised mice. The results showed that the HEP effectively increased the levels of total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX), and total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD), and decreased malondialdehyde (MDA) content in the liver tissues of mice. In addition, the HEP restored the immune organ index, increased the serum levels of IL-2 and IgA, augmented the mRNA expression levels of intestinal Muc2, Reg3γ, occludin and ZO-1, and reduced intestinal permeability in mice. It was further confirmed by an immunofluorescence assay that the HEP enhanced the expression level of intestinal tight junction proteins to protect the intestinal mucosal barrier. These results suggested that the HEP could reduce intestinal permeability and enhance intestinal immune functions by increasing antioxidant capacity, tight junction proteins and immune-related factors in CTX-induced mice. In conclusion, the HEP effectively ameliorated CTX-induced intestinal barrier damage in immunocompromised mice, which provides a new application direction for the HEP as a natural immunopotentiator with antioxidant function.

Abstract
Oat hay and alfalfa hay are important roughage resources in livestock production. However, the effect of the mixture of oat hay and alfalfa hay on the meat quality of Albas goats is unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effects of feeding different proportions of oat hay and alfalfa hay on the growth performance and meat quality of Albas goats. Therefore, 32 goats were fed for 70 days and randomly divided into four treatment groups on the principle of similar weight: whole oat group (OAT), oat alfalfa ratio 3:7 group (OA73), oat alfalfa ratio 7:3 group (OA37) and whole alfalfa group (Alfalfa), with eight goats in each group. Daily feed intake records, feces, feed samples, and rumen fluid collection were made throughout the trial. The goats were weighed on the last day of the trial, and four goats per group were randomly selected for slaughter. Cecum contents, meat samples, and hot carcass weight were collected, and data were recorded. Furthermore, the relationship between the rumen and cecal microbes on performance and meat quality was clarified by analyzing the rumen and hindgut microbiomes. The results showed that feeding alfalfa could significantly reduce the daily weight gain of fattening goats. Compared with the highest group (OA37), the daily weight gain decreased by 19.21%. Although there was no significant change in feed intake in the four treatments, the feed conversion rate of the alfalfa group significantly decreased by 30.24-36.47% compared to the other groups. However, with the increased alfalfa content, MDA decreased significantly, T-AOC was up-regulated, and the antioxidant activity of the fattened goat meat fed with the high alfalfa group was significantly higher than that of the low alfalfa group. Notably, the abundance of Bacteroidales_unclassified and Clostridium were strongly correlated with T-AOC and MDA. Therefore, increasing the proportion of alfalfa in the diet can affect the antioxidant activity of goat meat by improving the gut microbiota, while an oat-hay mixture can improve the growth performance of livestock.

Abstract
As one kind of high-quality feed with rich nutrients, including high quality protein and amino acids, dietary fiber, enriched vitamins and mineral elements and bioactive molecules, alfalfa has been widely used in the production of ruminant livestock. As the understanding of alfalfa becomes more and more comprehensive, it is found that the high-quality nutrients in alfalfa could have positive effects on pigs. An increasing number of researches have shown that supplementing dietary alfalfa to the diet of gestating sows reduced constipation, alleviated abnormal behavior, improved satiety and reproductive performance; supplementing dietary alfalfa to the diet of piglets improved growth performance and intestinal barrier function, reduced intestinal inflammatory response and diarrhea; supplementing dietary alfalfa to the diet of growing-fattening pigs improved production performance and pork quality. Moreover, the mechanisms by which various nutrients of alfalfa exert their beneficial effects on pigs mainly including dietary fiber stimulating intestinal peristalsis, enhancing the activity of digestive enzymes, and promoting the colonization of beneficial bacteria in the intestinal tract through fermentation in the intestine, producing short-chain fatty acids and thus improving intestinal health; high quality protein and amino acids are beneficial to improve animal health condition; rich vitamins and mineral elements play an important role in various physiological functions and growth and development of the body; and bioactive molecules can improve the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory level. Therefore, alfalfa could be used as pig feed ingredient to alleviate various problems in the pig industry and to improve pig production performance. In this review, we detail the current application of alfalfa in pigs and discuss the potential mechanisms involved in how alfalfa improves growth and reproductive performance, pork quality, and intestinal health of the animals, thus laying the foundation for the increased application of high-quality forage in pig production.

Abstract
Recent studies have demonstrated the metabolic benefits of phenolic compounds on human health. However, traditional analytical methods used for quantification of total phenolic compounds are time-consuming, laborious, require a high volume of reagents, mostly toxic substances, and involve several steps that can result in systematic and instrumental errors. Spectroscopic techniques have been used as alternatives to these methods for the determination of bioactive compounds directly in the food matrix by minimal sample preparation, without using toxic reagents. Therefore, this overview presents the advantages of nondestructive methods focusing on infrared spectroscopy (IR), for the quantification of total phenolic compounds in fruits. In addition, the main difficulties in applying these spectroscopic techniques are presented, as well as a comparison between the quantification of total phenolic compounds by traditional and IR methods. This review concludes by focusing on model building, highlighting that IR data are mainly processed using the partial least-squares (PLS) regression method to predict total phenolic content. The development of portable and inexpensive IR instruments, combined with multivariate data processing, could give to the consumers a straightforward technology to evaluate the total phenolic content of fruits prior to purchase.

Abstract
Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), which are predominant tumor-infiltrating immune cells in the tumor microenvironment, participate in promoting the occurrence and metastasis of tumor cells. Reprogramming TAMs has become a promising immunotherapeutic approach for novel cancer treatments. In this study, a homogeneous polysaccharide (PHP-1) was obtained from Pseudostellaria heterophylla, and its antitumor and immunological activities, as well as the underlying molecular mechanisms were explored. These findings suggested that PHP-1 can switch M2 macrophages to the M1 type, thereby promoting tumor cell apoptosis in vitro. In addition, PHP-1 can modulate the TAMs phenotype, maintain the CD4+/CD8+ lymphocyte balance, and exert antitumor effects in H22 tumor-bearing mice. Mechanistically, PHP-1 is recognized by the TLR4 receptor, promotes Ca2+ release, and activates the NF-κB and MAPK signaling pathways to reset the M2-type macrophages. These findings indicate that PHP-1 from P. heterophylla can function as a tumor immunotherapeutic modulator.

Abstract
The application of alfalfa powder (AP) in Tibetan sheep to explore its healthy effects and meat quality improvement potential has not been reported. Our study found that AP improved the growth performance, serum metabolism, and antioxidation of Tibetan sheep. The edible quality, sensory quality, and nutritional quality of longissimus dorsi (LD) were analyzed. We observed lower drip loss and hue angle of meat after AP supplementation. AP also increased the cooked meat percentage, pH24h, a*24h, chroma24h, and the contents of protein and fat. The targeted metabolomics profiling revealed that the contents of essential amino acids and flavor amino acids in mutton increased by AP treatments. AP also promoted the deposition of MUFA and PUFA. Therefore, as a promising botanical supplement, AP has a positive effect on the growth, development, and body health of Tibetan sheep, and is also conductive to providing healthy and nutritious high-quality livestock products.

Abstract
This study was designed to systematically elucidate the immunomodulatory and antioxidant effects of three polysaccharide fractions (ACP60, ACP80, and ACPt2) from Abrus cantoniensis on cyclophosphamide (CTX)-induced immunosuppressive mice. The experimental mice were divided into 12 groups, then modeled and administrated with different doses of three polysaccharides (50, 150, 300 mg/kg/day) by gavage. The results showed that ACP could markedly recover the CTX-induced decline in immune organ and hemocytes indexes and promote proliferation of splenocytes, earlap swelling rate, secretion of cytokines (TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-1β, IL-6), and immunoglobulin (Ig-M and Ig-G). Additionally, ACP improved the enzymatic activities of T-SOD and GSH-PX greatly, while the level of MDA was significantly decreased in the liver. In particular, ACPt2 had higher immunomodulatory and antioxidant activities than ACP60 and ACP80. Based on the present findings, ACP could be utilized as an efficacious candidate for immunomodulators and antioxidants, which provide a new application prospect in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Abstract
The present study investigated the effects of dietary Astragalus Propinquus schischkin polysaccharides on growth, immune responses, antioxidants responses and inflammation-related genes expression in Channa argus. Channa argus were randomly divided into 5 groups and fed 5 levels diets of A. propinquus schischkin polysaccharides (0, 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 mg/kg) for 56 days. The results showed, dietary A. propinquus schischkin polysaccharides addition can increase the final body weight, weight gain and specific growth rate, decrease the feed conversion ratio of Channa argus. And dietary A. propinquus schischkin polysaccharides supplementation can increase the levels of serum superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, lysozyme, complement 3, complement 4, immunoglobulin M and alkaline phosphatase, decrease the levels of serum malondialdehyde, cortisol, aspartate aminotransferase and glutamic-pyruvic transaminase. Furthermore, dietary A. propinquus schischkin polysaccharides can decrease the gene expression levels of interleukin-1β, interleukin-, tumor necrosis factor-α and nuclear factor-κB, increase the gene expression levels of glucocorticoid receptor in liver, spleen, kidney, intestine. To sum up, dietary A. propinquus schischkin polysaccharides can accelerate growth, enhance immune responses and antioxidants responses, regulate inflammation-related genes expression in Channa argus and the optimum amount is 1000 mg/kg.

Abstract
The present study was undertaken to explore the structure characteristics, immune regulation, and anti-cancer abilities of polysaccharides in radix ginseng Rubra (RGR). For this purpose, RGR polysaccharides (RGRP) were purified through DEAE and S-300 chromatography. Monosaccharide composition, methylation, and GC-MS analyses, as well as field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), atomic force microscope (AFM), Fourier-transformed infrared resonance (FT-IR), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra, were used to establish the structure of RGRP-1b. Our results revealed that RGRP-1a and RGRP-1b possess different molecular weights (21.3 kDa and 10.2 kDa, respectively). RGRP-1a was found to be composed of glucose, while RGRP-1b was composed of glucose, galactose, and arabinose. The main chain structure of RGRP-1b was composed of 1,4-α-Glcp, with a 1,4,6-α-Glcp branch unit. Its side chains were branched at the O-4 position of 1,4,6-α-Glcp, namely 1)-β-Galp-(4 → 1)-α-Araf-(5 → α-Araf and 1)-β-Galp-(6 → α-Glcp. The changes in the nitric oxide (NO) levels and cytotoxicity revealed that macrophages probably get activated by RGRP-1b. The expressions of IL-6, IL-12, and TNF-α were found to be upregulated after treatment with RGRP-1b. RGRP-1b thus possesses the potential to arrest the growth of Huh7 through immunoregulation. Our cumulative findings indicate that RGRP-1b obtained from radix ginseng Rubra can function as a strong immune modulator.

Abstract
Alfalfa polysaccharide (APS) has been proposed to exhibit growth-promoting and immune-enhancing bodily functions in vivo. However, little is known about its downstream immunomodulatory and intrinsic molecular mechanisms. Herein, mouse splenic lymphocytes were isolated to characterize the immunomodulatory effects and molecular mechanisms of APS in vitro. The results demonstrated that APS selectively improved the cell viability and IgM production of B cells, but no effects on T cell viability or secretion of IL-2, IL-4 and IFN-γ were observed in vitro. The receptor blocking assay showed that TLR4 was the primary receptor involved in APS-mediated B cell activation, which was confirmed by the results obtained using C57BL/10ScNJ (TLR4 gene-deficient) mice. Moreover, APS activated the TLR4-MyD88 signaling pathway at the translational level by significantly increasing the protein expression of TLR4 and MyD88. Downstream pathway blocking assay demonstrated that both the MAPK and NF-κB pathways were involved in APS-induced B cell activation. Additionally, APS significantly enhanced the phosphorylation of p38, ERK, and JNK and activated the nuclear translocation of the NF-κB p65 subunit. Therefore, we concluded that APS specifically activates the immune functions of splenic B cells by TLR4, acting through the MAPK and NF-κB signaling pathways, and potently activates the p38 pathway.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of adding Pennisetum purpureum (P. purpureum, also known as Napier grass or elephant grass) to the diets of late gestation on the antioxidant indexes, immune indexes and faecal microbiota of sows. At the 90 days of gestation, 300 healthy sows were randomly divided into three groups, and they received the basic commercial diet or added 5% P. purpureum and 10% P. purpureum, respectively. The experiment started from 90 days of gestation to parturition. The results showed that the total antioxidant capacity, immunoglobulins and serum equol concentrations of sows on 100 days of gestation and at parturition increased linearly (p < .05) with the increase of the content of P. purpureum in the gestation diet. The 5% P. purpureum increased the relative abundance of Bacteroidetes (p = .027) and Actinobacteria (p < .001) at phylum level, Coriobacteriaceae (p < .001) at family level and Prevotellaceae_UCG_001 (p = .004) at genus level, and decreased the relative abundance of Escherichia_Shigella (p < .001) at genus level. In summary, this study shows that the additive of P. purpureum can increase the concentration of serum equol, improve the antioxidant capacity and immune function of sow in late gestation. In addition, the additive of 5% P. purpureum in the diet might change the composition of intestinal microbiota of sows, particularly the relative abundance of Coriobacteriaceae (p < .001) increased.

Abstract
Marine-derived antioxidant polysaccharides have aroused extensive attention because of their potential nutritional and therapeutic benefits. However, the comprehensive comparison of identified marine-derived antioxidant polysaccharides is still inaccessible, which would facilitate the discovery of more efficient antioxidants from marine organisms. Thus, this review summarizes the sources, chemical composition, structural characteristics, and antioxidant capacity of marine antioxidant polysaccharides, as well as their protective in vivo effects mediated by antioxidative stress reported in the last few years (2013-2019), and especially highlights the dominant role of marine algae as antioxidant polysaccharide source. In addition, the relationships between the chemical composition and structural characteristics of marine antioxidant polysaccharides with their antioxidant capacity were also discussed. The antioxidant activity was found to be determined by multiple factors, including molecular weight, monosaccharide composition, sulfate position and its degree.

Abstract
The supplementation of STVRE significantly attenuated hyperuricemia and oxidative stress, upregulated ABCG2 and downregulated GLUT9 (protein and mRNA) expression in hyperuricemic mice.
