Abstract
Na super-ion conductor type material Na3V2(PO4)3 has been widely researched as the cathode of sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) in recent years, but the unsatisfying cost of Na3V2(PO4)3 impedes its wide application in SIBs. In this study, iron element is used to replace part of vanadium in Na3V2(PO4)3 to reduce its expense, and pine pollen is applied for the first time as a very effective carbon source to improve the performance of Na4FeV(PO4)3. The fabricated composite material achieves a capacity of 105 mA h g-1 under 0.2 C and fascinating cycling stability over 94 % under 2 C for 500 cycles and 98 % under 10 C for 1000 cycles. The excellent cycle performance is caused by the involvement of pine pollen that acts as a carbon matrix to enhance the electron conductivity and block the agglomeration of active material effectively, thus the well-dispersed nano sized Na4FeV(PO4)3 shortens the diffusion path of sodium ion and gains a remarkable rate capability. Moreover, the distinguished reversibility during the charge and discharge procedures is ascribed also to the robust structure of Na4FeV(PO4)3. This work provides an efficient route to realize the economic cathode material of SIBs with good performance.

Abstract
Na3MnTi(PO4)3 (NMTP) emerges as a promising cathode material with high-performance for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). Nevertheless, its development has been limited by several challenges, including poor electronic conductivity, the Mn3+ Jahn-Teller effect, and the presence of a Na+/Mn2+ cation mixture. To address these issues, we have developed a cation/anion-dual regulation strategy to activate the redox reactions involving manganese, thereby significantly enhancing the performance of NMTP. This strategy simultaneously enhances the structural dynamics and facilitates rapid ion transport at high rates by inducing the formation of sodium vacancy. The combined effects of these modifications lead to a substantial improvement in specific capacity (79.1 mAh/g), outstanding high-rate capabilities (35.9 mAh/g at 10C), and an ultralong cycle life (only 0.040 % capacity attenuation per cycle over 250 cycles at 1C for Na3.34Mn1.2Ti0.8(PO3.98F0.02)3) when used as a cathode material in SIBs. Furthermore, its performance in full cell demonstrates impressive rate capability (44.4 mAh/g at 5C) and exceptional cycling stability (with only 0.116 % capacity decay per cycle after 150 cycles at 1C), suggesting its potential for practical applications. This work presents a dual regulation strategy targeting different sites, offering a significant advancement in the development of NASICON phosphate cathodes for SIBs.

Abstract
Na3V2(PO4)2F3 (NVPF) has been regarded as a favorable cathode for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) due to its high voltage and stable structure. However, the limited electronic conductivity restricts its rate performance. NVPF@reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was synthesized by a facile microwave-assisted hydrothermal approach with subsequent calcination to shorten the hydrothermal time. NVPF nanocuboids with sizes of 50-150 nm distributed on rGO can be obtained, delivering excellent electrochemical performance such as a longevity life (a high capacity retention of 85.6% after 7000 cycles at 10 C) and distinguished rate capability (116 mAh g-1 at 50 C with a short discharging/charging time of 1.2 min). The full battery with a Cu2Se anode represents a capacity of 116 mAh g-1 at 0.2 A g-1. The introduction of rGO can augment the electronic conductivity and advance the Na+ diffusion speed, boosting the cycling and rate capability. Besides, the small lattice change (3.3%) and high structural reversibility during the phase transition process between Na3V2(PO4)2F3 and NaV2(PO4)2F3 testified by in situ X-ray diffraction are also advantageous for Na storage behavior. This work furnishes a simple method to synthesize polyanionic cathodes with ultrahigh rate and ultralong lifespan for fast-charging SIBs.

Abstract
Since sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have become increasingly commercialized in recent years, Na3V2(PO4)2O2F (NVPOF) offers promising economic potential as a cathode for SIBs because of its high operating voltage and energy density. According to reports, NVPOF performs poorly in normal commercial poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) binder systems and performs best in combination with aqueous binder. Although in line with the concept of green and sustainable development for future electrode preparation, aqueous binders are challenging to achieve high active material loadings at the electrode level, and their relatively high surface tension tends to cause the active material on the electrode sheet to crack or even peel off from the collector. Herein, a cross-linkable and easily commercial hybrid binder constructed by intermolecular hydrogen bonding (named HPP) has been developed and utilized in an NVPOF system, which enables the generation of a stable cathode electrolyte interphase on the surface of active materials. According to theoretical simulations, the HPP binder enhances electronic/ionic conductivity, which greatly lowers the energy barrier for Na+ migration. Additionally, the strong hydrogen-bond interactions between the HPP binder and NVPOF effectively prevent electrolyte corrosion and transition-metal dissolution, lessen the lattice volume effect, and ensure structural stability during cycling. The HPP-based NVPOF offers considerably improved rate capability and cycling performance, benefiting from these benefits. This comprehensive binder can be extended to the development of next-generation energy storage technologies with superior performance.

Abstract
Na4Fe3(PO4)2(P2O7) (NFPP) is regarded as a promising cathode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) owing to its low cost, easy manufacture, environmental purity, high structural stability, unique three-dimensional Na-ion diffusion channels, and appropriate working voltage. However, for NFPP, the low conductivity of electrons and ions limits their capacity and power density. The generation of NaFeP2O7 and NaFePO4 inhibits the diffusion of sodium ions and reduces reversible capacity and rate performance during the manufacturing process in synthesis methods. Herein, we report an entropy-driven approach to enhance the electronic conductivity and, concurrently, phase purity of NFPP as the superior cathode in sodium-ion batteries. This approach was realized via Ti ions substituting different ratios of Fe-occupied sites in the NFPP lattice (denoted as NTFPP-X, T is the Ti in the lattice, X is the ratio of Ti-substitution) with the configurational entropic increment of the lattice structures from 0.68 R to 0.79 R. Specifically, 5% Ti-substituted lattice (NTFPP-0.05) inducing entropic augmentation not only improves the electronic conductivity from 7.1 × 10-2 S/m to 8.6 × 10-2 S/m but also generates the pure-phase of NFPP (suppressing the impure phases of the NaFeP2O7 and NaFePO4) of the lattice structure, which is validated by a series of characterizations, including powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectra (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and density functional theory (DFT). Benefiting from the Ti replacement in the lattice, the optimal NTFPP-0.05 composite shows a high first discharge capacity (118.5 mAh g-1 at 0.1 C), superior rate performance (70.5 mAh g-1 at 10 C), and excellent long cycling life (1200 cycles at 10 C with capacity retention of 86.9%). This research proposes a new entropy-driven approach to improve the electrochemical performance of NFPP and reports a low-cost, ultrastable, and high-rate cathode material of NTFPP-0.05 for SIBs.

Abstract
Exploring a sodium-enriched cathode (i.e. Na4V2(PO4)3, which differs from its traditional stoichiometric counterpart Na3V2(PO4)3 that can provide extra endogenous sodium reserves to mitigate the irreversible capacity loss of the anode material (i.e. hard carbon), is an intriguing presodiation method for the development of high energy sodium-ion batteries. To meet this challenge, herein, we first propose a redox-potential-matched chemical sodiation approach, utilizing phenazine-sodium (PNZ-Na) as the optimal reagent to sodiate the Na3V2(PO4)3 precursor into Na-enriched Na4V2(PO4)3. The spontaneous sodiation reaction enables a fast reduction of one-half V ions from V3+ to V2+, followed by the insertion of one Na+ ion into the NASICON framework, which only takes 90 s to obtain the phase-pure Na4V2(PO4)3 product. When paired with a hard carbon anode, the resulting Na4VP‖HC full cell exhibits a high energy density of 251 W h kg-1, which is 58% higher than that of 159 W h kg-1 for the Na3VP‖HC control cell. Our chemical sodiation methodology provides an innovative approach for designing sodium-rich cathode materials and could serve as an impetus to the development of advanced sodium-ion batteries.

Abstract
Na3 V2 (PO4 )2 O2 F (NVPOF) is widely accepted as advanced cathode material for sodium-ion batteries with high application prospects ascribing to its considerable specific capacity and high working voltage. However, challenges in the full realization of its theoretical potential lie in the novel structural design to accelerate its Na+ diffusivity. Herein, considering the important role of polyanion groups in constituting Na+ diffusion tunnels, boron (B) is doped at the P-site to obtain Na3 V2 (P2- x Bx O8 )O2 F (NVP2- x Bx OF). As evidenced by density functional theory modeling, B-doping induces a dramatic decrease in the bandgap. Delocalization of electrons on the O anions in BO4 tetrahedra is observed in NVP2- x Bx OF, which dramatically lowers the electrostatic resistance experienced by Na+ . As a result, the Na+ diffusivity in the NVP2- x Bx OF cathode has accelerated up to 11 times higher, which secures a high rate property (67.2 mAh g-1 at 60 C) and long cycle stability (95.9% capacity retention at 108.6 mAh g-1 at 10 C after 1000 cycles). The assembled NVP1.90 B0.10 OF//Se-C full cell demonstrates exceptional power/energy density (213.3 W kg-1 @ 426.4 Wh kg-1 and 17970 W kg-1 @ 119.8 Wh kg-1 ) and outstanding capability to withstand long cycles (90.1% capacity retention after 1000 cycles at 105.3 mAh g-1 at 10 C).

Abstract
Polyanionic material, specifically the NASICON-type material, is considered a promising cathode material for Na-ion batteries (SIBs) because of its stable structure and high operating voltage. Further, it improves the energy density correlated with the well utilization of all Na in the compound. For Na3 V2 (PO4 )2 F3 (NVPF), the extraction of the third Na, reported as the electrochemical inactivated, can be realized at a high voltage region while forming an irreversible tetragonal phase. In this study, we introduce Ti doping to the Na2 VTi(PO4 )2 F3 (NVTPF) material; we reveal that the Ti-doped NVTPF could effectively suppress the irreversible phase transformation, thus successfully harnessing Na in a wide voltage range. Experimental study discloses that the Ti-substituted Na2 VTi(PO4 )2 F3 could take up the Na+ from Amam phase to Cmc21 phase between 1.0 V and 4.8 V reversibly accounting for the 2 Na+ transportation that shows favorable Na+ kinetics and structural stability. Our research provides the strategy to stabilize the polyanion structure upon charging at a high voltage range and inspires the utilization of full sodium in the polyanionic materials, which could be considered as a material design for future conventional applications.

Abstract
Next-generation secondary batteries including sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) and potassium-ion batteries (PIBs) are considered the most promising candidates for application to large-scale energy storage systems due to their abundant, evenly distributed and cost-effective sodium/potassium raw materials. The electrochemical performance of SIBs (PIBs) significantly depends on the inherent characteristics of the cathode material. Among the wide variety of cathode materials, sodium/potassium vanadium fluorophosphate (denoted as MVPF, M = Na and K) composites are widely investigated due to their fast ion transportation and robust structure. However, their poor electron conductivity leads to low specific capacity and poor rate capacity, limiting the further application of MVPF cathodes in large-scale energy storage. Accordingly, several modification strategies have been proposed to improve the performance of MVPF such as conductive coating, morphological regulation, and heteroatomic doping, which boost the electronic conductivity of these cathodes and enhance Na (K) ion transportation. Furthermore, the development and application of MVPF cathodes in SIBs at low temperatures are also outlined. Finally, we present a brief summary of the remaining challenges and corresponding strategies for the future development of MVPF cathodes.

Abstract
Layered transition metal chalcogenides (MX, M=Mo, W, Sn, V; X=S, Se, Te) have large ion transport channels and high specific capacity, making them promising for large-sized Na+ /K+ energy-storage technologies. Nevertheless, slow reaction kinetics and huge volume expansion will induce an undesirable electrochemical performance. Numerous efforts have been devoted to designing MX anodes and enhancing their electrochemical performance. Based on the metal-organic assembly strategy, nanostructural engineering, combination with carbon materials, and component regulation can be easily realized, which effectively boost the performance of MX anodes. In this Review, we present a comprehensive overview on the synthesis of MX nanostructure using the metal-organic assembly strategy, which can realize the design of MX nanostructures, based on self-sacrificial templates, host@guest tailored templates, post-modified layer and derivative templates. The preparation routes and structure evolution are mainly discussed. Then, Mo-, W-, Sn-, V-based chalcogenides used for Na+ /K+ energy storage are reviewed, and the relationship between the structure and the electrochemical performance, as well as the energy storage mechanism are emphasized. In addition, existing challenges and future perspectives are also presented.

Abstract
Na3 V2 (PO4 )2 F3 (NVPF) is a suitable cathode for sodium-ion batteries owing to its stable structure. However, the large radius of Na+ restricts diffusion kinetics during charging and discharging. Thus, in this study, a phosphomolybdic acid (PMA)-assisted hydrothermal method is proposed. In the hydrothermal process, the NVPF morphologies vary from bulk to cuboid with varying PMA contents. The optimal channel for accelerated Na+ transmission is obtained by cuboid NVPF. With nitrogen-doping of carbon, the conductivity of NVPF is further enhanced. Combined with crystal growth engineering and surface modification, the optimal nitrogen-doped carbon-covered NVPF cuboid (c-NVPF@NC) exhibits a high initial discharge capacity of 121 mAh g-1 at 0.2 C. Coupled with a commercial hard carbon (CHC) anode, the c-NVPF@NC||CHC full battery delivers 118 mAh g-1 at 0.2 C, thereby achieving a high energy density of 450 Wh kg-1 . Therefore, this work provides a novel strategy for boosting electrochemical performance by crystal growth engineering and surface modification.

Abstract
Based on the favorable ionic conductivity and structural stability, sodium superionic conductor (NASICON) materials especially utilizing multivalent redox reaction of vanadium are one of the most promising cathodes in sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). To further boost their application in large-scale energy storage production, a rational strategy is to tailor vanadium with earth-abundant and cheap elements (such as Fe, Mn), reducing the cost and toxicity of vanadium-based NASICON materials. Here, the Na3.05 V1.03 Fe0.97 (PO4 )3 (NVFP) is synthesized with highly conductive Ketjen Black (KB) by ball-milling assisted sol-gel method. The pearl-like KB branch chains encircle the NVFP (p-NVFP), the segregated particles possess promoted overall conductivity, balanced charge, and modulated crystal structure during electrochemical progress. The p-NVFP obtains significantly enhanced ion diffusion ability and low volume change (2.99%). Meanwhile, it delivers a durable cycling performance (87.7% capacity retention over 5000 cycles at 5 C) in half cells. Surprisingly, the full cells of p-NVFP reveal a remarkable capability of 84.9 mAh g-1 at 20 C with good cycling performance (capacity decay rate is 0.016% per cycle at 2 C). The structure modulation of the p-NVFP provides a rational design on the superiority of others to be put into practice.

Abstract
Potassium vanadium oxyfluoride phosphate of composition KVPO4F0.5O0.5 was modified by a carbon coating to enhance its electrochemical performance. Two distinct methods were used, first, chemical vapor deposition (CVD) using acetylene gas as a carbon precursor and second, an aqueous route using an abundant, cheap, and green precursor (chitosan) followed by a pyrolysis step. The formation of a 5 to 7 nm-thick carbon coating was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy and it was found to be more homogeneous in the case of CVD using acetylene gas. Indeed, an increase of the specific surface area of one order of magnitude, low content of C sp2, and residual oxygen surface functionalities were observed when the coating was obtained using chitosan. Pristine and carbon-coated materials were compared as positive electrode materials in potassium half-cells cycled at a C/5 (C = 26.5 mA g-1) rate within a potential window of 3 to 5 V vs K+/K. The formation by CVD of a uniform carbon coating with the limited presence of surface functions was shown to improve the initial coulombic efficiency up to 87% for KVPFO4F0.5O0.5-C2H2 and to mitigate electrolyte decomposition. Thus, performance at high C-rates such as 10 C was significantly improved, with ∼50% of the initial capacity maintained after 10 cycles, whereas a fast capacity loss is observed for the pristine material.

Abstract
Aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIBs) have attracted much interest in the next generation of energy storage devices because of their elevated safety and inexpensive price. Polyanionic materials have been considered as underlying cathodes owing to the high voltage, large ionic channels and fast ionic kinetics. However, the low electronic conductivity limits their cycling stability and rate performance. Herein, mesoporous Na3 V2 (PO4 )2 F3 (N3VPF) nanocuboids with the size of 80-220 nm cladded by reduced graphene oxide (rGO) have been successfully prepared to form 3D composite (N3VPF@rGO) by a novel and fast microwave hydrothermal with subsequent calcination strategy. The enhanced conductivity, strengthened pseudocapacitive behaviors, enlarged DZn 2+ , and stable structure guarantee N3VPF@rGO with splendid Zn2+ storage performance, such as high capacity of 126.9 mAh g-1 at 0.5 C (1 C = 128 mA g-1 ), high redox potentials at 1.48/1.57 V, high rate capacity of 93.9 mAh g-1 at 20 C (short charging time of 3 mins) and extreme cycling stability with capacity decay of 0.0074% per cycle after 5000 cycles at 15 C. The soft package batteries also present preeminent performance, demonstrating the practical application values. In situ X-ray diffraction, ex situ transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy reveal a reversible Zn2+ insertion/extraction mechanism.

Abstract
NaTi2(PO4)3 (NTP) is a promising anode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). It has drawn wide attention because of its stable three-dimensional NASICON-type structure, proper redox potential, and large accommodation space for Na+. However, the inherent low electronic conductivity of the phosphate framework reduces its charge transfer kinetics, thus limiting its exploitation. Therefore, this paper proposes a material with carbon-coated porous NTP olive-like nanospheres (p-NTP@C) to tackle the issues above. Based on experimental data and theoretical calculations, the porous structure of the material is found to be able to provide more active sites and shorten the Na+ diffusion distance. In addition, the carbon coating can effectively improve the electron and Na+ diffusion kinetics. As the anode material for SIBs, the p-NTP@C olive-like nanospheres exhibit a high reversible capacity (127.3 mAh g-1 at 0.1 C) and ultrastable cycling performance (84.8% capacity retention after 10,000 cycles at 5 C). Furthermore, the sodium-ion full cells, composed of p-NTP@C anode and Na3V2(PO4)2F3@carbon cathode, also deliver excellent performance (75.7% capacity retention after 1000 cycles at 1 C). In brief, this nanostructure design provides a viable approach for the future development of long-life and highly stable NASICON-type anode materials.

Abstract
Na3V2O2(PO4)2F (NVOPF) is gaining attention as a high-energy cathode candidate for sodium-ion batteries owing to its wide operating voltage, high energy density and excellent thermal stability. However, its intrinsic poor electrical conductivity results in its current sodium-storage performance being far below expectations. Herein, two-dimensional Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets with excellent electrical conductivity are introduced to construct an interconnected conductive framework to tightly encapsulate NVOPF nanoparticles. The Ti3C2Tx nanosheets ensure superior electronic contacts, along with inhibiting the agglomeration of NVOPF nanoparticles, thus accelerating electron and ion transfer during sodium-ion de/intercalation and maximizing the storage capacity. As a result, the optimized NVOPF/Ti3C2Tx cathode exhibits high rate capabilities (111 mA h g-1 at 0.2 C and 78 mA h g-1 at 20 C), with an impressively high capacity retention of 74.8% over a wide temperature range (from -20 to 20 °C). Additionally, the assembled sodium-ion full cell provides a highly reversible capacity of 116 mA h g-1 at 1 C, with a capacity retention of 67.2% after 100 cycles. These inspiring results provide new insights for improving the charge-transfer kinetics of the NVOPF cathode and this methodology may be extended to other cathode materials.

Abstract
Na3V2(PO4)2O2F (NVPOF) is considered a promising cathode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) on account of its attractive electrochemical properties such as high theoretical capacity, stable structure, and high working platform. Nevertheless, the inevitable interface problems like sluggish interfacial electrochemical reaction kinetics and poor interfacial ion storage capacity seriously hinder its application. Construction of chemical bonding is a highly effective way to solve interface problems. Herein, NVPOF with interfacial V-F-C bonding (CB-NVPOF) is developed. The CB-NVPOF cathode exhibits high rate capability (65 mA h g-1 at 40C) and long-term cycling stability (a capacity retention of 77% after 2000 cycles at 20C). Furthermore, it shows impressive electrochemical performance at temperatures as low as -40 °C, delivering a capacity of 56 mA h g-1 at 10C and a capacity retention of ∼80% after 500 cycles at 2C. The interfacial V-F-C bond engineering significantly advances the electronic conductivity, Na+ diffusion, as well as interface compatibility at -40 °C. This study provides a novel idea for improving the electrochemical performance of NVPOF-based cathodes for SIBs aiming for low-temperature applications.

The essential requirement to harness well-known renewable energy sources like wind energy, solar energy, etc. as a component of an overall plan to guarantee global power sustainability will require highly efficient, high power and energy density batteries to collect the derived electrical power and balance out variations in both supply and demand. Owing to the continuous exhaustion of fossil fuels, and ever increasing ecological problems associated with global warming, there is a critical requirement for searching for an alternative energy storage technology for a better and sustainable future. Electrochemical energy storage technology could be a solution for a sustainable source of clean energy. Sodium-ion battery (SIB) technology having a complementary energy storage mechanism to the lithium-ion battery (LIB) has been attracting significant attention from the scientific community due to its abundant resources, low cost, and high energy densities. Layered transition metal oxide (TMO) based materials for SIBs could be a potential candidate for SIBs among all other cathode materials. In this paper, we discussed the latest improvement in the various structures of the layered oxide materials for SIBs. Moreover, their synthesis, overall electrochemical performance, and several challenges associated with SIBs are comprehensively discussed with a stance on future possibilities. Many articles discussed the improvement of cathode materials for SIBs, and most of them have pondered the use of Na x MO2 (a class of TMOs) as a possible positive electrode material for SIBs. The different phases of layered TMOs (Na x MO2; TM = Co, Mn, Ti, Ni, Fe, Cr, Al, V, and a combination of multiple elements) show good cycling capacity, structural stability, and Na+ ion conductivity, which make them promising cathode material for SIBs. This review discusses and summarizes the electrochemical redox reaction, structural transformations, significant challenges, and future prospects to improve for Na x MO2. Moreover, this review highlights the recent advancement of several layered TMO cathode materials for SIBs. It is expected that this review will encourage further development of layered TMOs for SIBs.

Abstract
Na3 V2 (PO4 )2 F3 has attracted wide attention due to its high voltage platform, and stable crystal structure. However, its application is limited by the low electronic conductivity and the ease formation of impurity. In this paper, the spherical Br-doped Na3 V2 (PO4 )2 F3 /C is successfully obtained by a one-step spray drying technology. The hard template polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) supplements the loss of fluorine, forming porous structure that accelerates the infiltration of electrolyte. The soft template cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) enables doping of bromine and can also control the fluorine content, meanwhile, the self-assembly effect strengthens the structure and refines the size of spherical particles. The loss, compensation, and regulation mechanism of fluorine are investigated. The Br-doped Na3 V2 (PO4 )2 F3 /C sphere exhibits superior rate capability with the capacities of 116.1, 105.1, and 95.2 mAh g-1 at 1, 10, and 30 C, and excellent cyclic performance with 98.3% capacity retention after 1000 cycles at 10 C. The density functional theory (DFT) calculation shows weakened charge localization and enhanced conductivity, meanwhile the diffusion energy barrier of sodium ions is reduced with Br doping. This paper proposes a strategy to construct fluorine-containing polyanions cathode, which enables the precise regulation of structure and morphology, thus leading to superior electrochemical performance.

Abstract
Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have been regarded as promising alternative to lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to the abundance of sodium resource and cost-effectiveness of electrode manufacture. Na3 (VO1-x PO4 )2 F1+2x (0≤x≤1, NVPF1+2x ) polyanionic material, a potential high-energy-density cathode, has shown superior electrochemical performances for advanced SIBs due to its high working voltage (>3.9 V). Electrolyte composition, which plays an indispensable and critical role in determining the cycle stability and the electrode/electrolyte interfacial properties, is of great significance to possess good compatibility with electrode materials, especially the NVPF1+2x cathode. Here, different electrolyte systems, including commonly used 1.0 m NaPF6 /diglyme (NP-005), 1.0 m NaPF6 /propylene carbonate (PC)/5.0 % fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC) (NP-009), 1.0 m NaClO4 /ethylene carbonate-dimethyl carbonate (EC-DMC; 1 : 1 v/v)/5.0 % FEC (NC-019), and 1.0 m NaClO4 /PC (NC-013), were systematically investigated and compared for NVPF1+2x cathode. NVPF1+2x electrode with NP-009 electrolyte showed a superior cycle stability and rate capability at 1-10 C (1 C=130 mA g-1 ) than that of NC-019 and NC-013, while NVPF1+2x electrode with NP-005 electrolyte showed the best high-rate capability at 20-50 C. The cathode/electrolyte interphase (CEI), post-mortem electrode morphology, and electrochemical kinetic characteristics of NVPF1+2x electrode with different electrolytes were profoundly investigated and compared. It demonstrated that NVPF1+2x electrode with NP-005 exhibited a thin, efficient, and NaF-rich CEI layer with less polarization, smaller interfacial resistance, and faster Na+ diffusion than that of NC-019 and NC-013 since they suffered from a thick, overgrown CEI layer due to the consecutive decomposition of FEC, NaClO4 , and/or linear DMC, resulting in inferior electrochemical performance. This work provides new insights for the battery community to gain more comprehensive understanding about the compatibility and interfacial chemistry between different electrolyte systems and various electrode surfaces.

Abstract
Extending the charge cutoff voltage of LiCoO2(LCO) beyond 4.2 V is considered as a key parameter to obtain higher energy densities. Following gaps have been identified based on a thorough literature survey especially for higher cutoff voltage of nanoscale engineered LCO cathodes, (i) different metal oxides and metal fluoride surface coatings have been mostly done independently by different groups, (ii) room temperature performance was the focus with limited investigations at high temperature, (iii) nonexistence of low temperature cycling studies and (iv) no reports on high rate capability of LCO beyond 4.5 V (especially at 4.8 V) needs to be investigated. Herein, we report the effect of nanoscale engineering of LCO along with the role of coating chemistry and thickness to study its electrochemical performance at higher voltages and at wide operating temperatures. Surface coating was implemented with different metal oxides and a metal fluoride with tunable thickness. At 4.5 V, 5 wt% Al2O3coated LiCoO2(LCO@Al2O3-5) delivered a reversible capacity of 169 mAh g-1at 100 mA g-1and 151 mAh g-1at high rate of 10 C (2 A g-1) and 72% retention at the end of 500 cycles. At 55 °C, it exhibited better stability over 500 cycles at 5 C and even at -12.5 °C it maintained 72% of its initial capacity after 100 cycles at 200 mA g-1. At 4.8 V cut-off, LCO@Al2O3-5 rendered reversible capacity of 213 mAh g-1at 100 mA g-1, a high value compared to literatures reported for LCO. Also noted that it delivered a capacity of 126 mAh g-1at a current density of 1 A g-1, whereas bare could only exhibit 66 mAh g-1under same testing conditions. Enhanced performance of LCO@Al2O3-5 can be ascribed to the lower charge transfer resistance derived from the stable solid solution formation on the interface.Ex situXRD andex situRaman analysis at different stages of charge/discharge cycles correlates the enhanced performance of LCO@Al2O3-5 with its structural stability and minimal structural degradation.

Abstract
Impossible voltage plateau regulation for the cathode materials with fixed active elemental center is a pressing issue hindering the development of Na-superionic-conductor (NASICON)-type Na3 V2 (PO4 )2 F3 (NVPF) cathodes in sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). Herein, a high-entropy substitution strategy, to alter the detailed crystal structure of NVPF without changing the central active V atom, is pioneeringly utilized, achieving simultaneous electronic conductivity enhancement and diffusion barrier reduction for Na+ , according to theoretical calculations. The as-prepared carbon-free high-entropy Na3 V1.9 (Ca,Mg,Al,Cr,Mn)0.1 (PO4 )2 F3 (HE-NVPF) cathode can deliver higher mean voltage of 3.81 V and more advantageous energy density up to 445.5 Wh kg-1 , which is attributed by the diverse transition-metal elemental substitution in high-entropy crystalline. More importantly, high-entropy introduction can help realize disordered rearrangement of Na+ at Na(2) active sites, thereby to refrain from unfavorable discharging behaviors at low-voltage region, further lifting up the mean working voltage to realize a full Na-ion storage at the high voltage plateau. Coupling with a hard carbon (HC) anode, HE-NVPF//HC SIB full cells can deliver high specific energy density of 326.8 Wh kg-1 at 5 C with the power density of 2178.9 W kg-1 . This route means the unlikely potential regulation in NASICON-type crystal with unchangeable active center becomes possible, inspiring new ideas on elevating the mean working voltage for SIB cathodes.

Abstract
Lithium manganese iron phosphate (LiMn1-xFexPO4, LMFP) combines the advantages of LiFePO4 and LiMnPO4. However, low electronic conductivity and sluggish lithium ion diffusion of the LMFP cathode limits its commercial application. In this work, the LMFP microspheres were co-coated by silica and N-doped carbon for the improvement of electronic and ionic conductivity of LMFP. The hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate and the polymerization of dopamine can be mutually promoted in one reaction system to realize the simultaneous precipitation of Si and C species on the LMFP surfaces without the addition of acid–base catalysts or buffering agents. After high-temperature treatment in argon, the silica and N-doped carbon co-coated LMFP microspheres were obtained with improved cycling stability (84.4% of capacity retention for 300 cycles at 1 C) and enhanced rate performance (80.0 mAh g−1 at 5 C). Therefore, this work shows a facile and common method for the composite coating of cathode materials.

Abstract
The nano-scale spherical Na3V2(PO4)2F3 with a NASICON structure phase was prepared with a spray drying technique, and the bagasse in Guangxi, China was selected as the carbon source to prepare Na3V2(PO4)2F3/C. The optimal preparation conditions of the composite determined using thermogravimetry, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and electrochemical testing were: a calcination temperature of 650 °C and a 20% carbon source. The Na3V2(PO4)2F3/C has obvious redox peaks, determined by cyclic voltammetry (CV), at 3.90 V and 3.75 V, 4.32 V and 4.15 V. These two pairs of redox peaks correspond to the escape/intercalation of the two pairs of Li+/Na+. Notably, compared with pure Na3V2(PO4)2F3, the specific discharge capacity of Na3V2(PO4)2F3/C-20%, which were used as a cathode material for lithium-sodium hybrid ion batteries, increased from 55 mA h g-1 to 125 mA h g-1, which was an improvement of twofold.

Abstract
The aqueous alkaline rechargeable batteries (AARBs) have an attractive potential for electrochemical energy storage devices. In view of the advantages of high theoretical capacity and desirable negative operating window, bismuth (Bi) has been deemed as a hopeful anode material for AARBs. Unfortunately, intensive reported works of Bi anode are still confronted with limited capacity and poor cycling stability. Herein, the designed electrodes of different size Bi nanoparticles embedded in porous carbon nanofibers with a contrasting nitrogen doping content are obtained by electrospinning and thermal treatment processes. The effect of the N dopant in carbon shell is demonstrated on the Bi core, which is in favor of enhancing the capacity of Bi anodes. More importantly, the core structure with highly dispersed ultrasmall Bi nanoparticles (<20 nm) in carbon matrix plays a crucial role in long-term durability. Accordingly, the optimized polydisperse ultrasmall Bi nanoparticles confined in N-rich porous carbon nanofibers electrode (Bi@NPCF) presents an admirable capacity of 196.1 mAh g-1 at 3 A g-1 and outstanding durable lifespan (retain 116.95% after 10 000 cycles). In addition, the fabricated Bi@NPCF//NiCo2 O4 battery exhibits an exceptional energy and power density with durable stability (95.9% after 5000 cycles).

Abstract
Sodium vanadium phosphate [Na3V2(PO4)3] with high voltage platform, low cost and environment friendliness has been considered as one of the most promising candidates as cathodes for high-performance sodium-ion batteries. However, the sodium storage property of Na3V2(PO4)3 is limited because of its low electronic conductivity and poor kinetic performance. Herein, MoO42--doped Na(3+2x)V2(PO4)(3-x)MoO4(x) [NVP-MoO4 (x), x = 0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15] have been developed and prepared by a feasible solid-state reaction. The optimal NVP-MoO4 (0.10) delivers a high initial capacity of 108.9 mA h g-1 and presents an excellent capacity retention of 91.5% at 1 C after 150 cycles. In addition, the NVP-MoO4 (0.10) shows a good rate capability, delivering a relatively high capacity of 84.2 mA h g-1 at 50 C. The results of sodium storage measurement and density of states calculation indicate that MoO42- doping can significantly enhance the structural stability, promote the kinetics behavior and boost the electronic conductivity of the materials. In-situ XRD test reveals that the electrochemical reaction of the NVP-MoO4 (0.10) exhibits a highly reversible phase transition process. This work provides a new insight for the design of advanced cathodes for high-performance sodium-ion batteries by the strategy of unique anion doping.

Abstract
Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have aroused intense research and academic interest due to the natural abundance and cost-effectiveness of sodium resources. Presently, cathode materials based on the Na3(VO1-xPO4)2F1+2x (0 ≤ x ≤ 1, NVPF1+2x) polyanionic framework show intriguing electrochemical performances toward practical and advanced SIBs due to its high operating voltage (>3.9 V) and high energy density (>500 Wh kg-1). Different from conventional approaches focusing on delicate morphology design, metal ion substitution, and the conductive matrix's incorporation to overcome the low intrinsic electrical conductivity, here we adopt a one-step microwave-assisted hydrothermal approach to optimize the electrochemical performances of NVPF1+2x via manipulating its phase compositions with different vanadium sources and distinguishing the tetragonal (I4/mmm) symmetry of the Na3(VOPO4)2F phase from the orthorhombic symmetry (Amam) of the Na3V2(PO4)2F3 phase. The introduction of the conductive reduced graphene oxide (rGO) framework and its impacts on the phase compositions were systematically investigated. The rGO framework with different calcination temperature can alter the phase composition and the electrical conductivity of NVPF1+2x cathodes significantly, thus having a great impact on their electrochemical performances. Galvanostatic charge/discharge, cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and the galvanostatic intermittent titration technique are adopted to compare their electrode polarization and kinetics difference and show that NVPF@rGO-600 °C possesses a high rate, small polarization, and fast kinetics electrochemical properties. This work provides new insights into manipulating phase compositions of the NVPF1+2x cathode by modulating the synthesis conditions and revealing their synergistic effect with a rGO conductive framework toward a superior rate capability and more realistic practical applications for SIBs.

Abstract
Metal phosphorus trichalcogenides have been regarded as promising high-capacity anode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) owing to their high reversible capacity. Nevertheless, their practical application is plagued by poor diffusion kinetics and dramatic volume fluctuations during the charge-discharge process, resulting in no satisfactory rate and life span so far. Herein, we propose a space-confinement strategy to remarkably promote the cycling stability and rate capacity by embedding FePS3 particles in the interlayer of expanded graphite (EG), which are derived from in situ transformation of graphite intercalation compounds. The layered EG not only greatly alleviates the volume fluctuations of FePS3 by the space confinement effect so as to maintain the stability of the electrode microstructure, but it also ensures rapid Na+ and electron transfer during cycling. When acting as an anode for SIBs, the hybrid electrode delivers a highly reversible capacity of 312.5 mAh g-1 at an ultrahigh rate of 50 A g-1 while retaining an ultralong life span of 1300 cycles with a retention of 82.4% at 10 A g-1. Moreover, the excellent performance of the assembled full battery indicates the practical application potential of FPS/EG.

Abstract
Na3 V2 (PO4 )3 (NVP) has been regarded as a potential cathode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) due to its excellent structural stability and rapid Na+ conductivity. However, its electrochemical performances are restricted by the large bulk structure and poor electronic conductivity. The construction of porous NVP materials is a powerful method to improve the electrochemical properties. This concept aims to provide an overview of recent progress of porous NVP materials for SIBs. Herein, the synthetic strategies and formation mechanisms of porous NVP materials as well as the relationship between the porous structures and electrochemical performances of NVP materials are reviewed. Furthermore, the challenges and prospects for the preparation of porous NVP materials in this field are outlined.

Abstract
A new metal-organic framework {(Me2NH2)2[Co3(μ3-O)(btb)2(py)(H2O)]·(DMF)2(H2O)2}n (Cobtbpy) was solvothermal synthesized (H3btb = 1,3,5-tri(4-carboxylphenyl)benzene, py = pyridine, DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide). Cobtbpy shows a (3,6)-connected rtl 3D network with a point symbol of (4·62)2(42·610·83) based on the [Co3(μ3-O)] clusters. The obtained Cobtbpy has stable, accessible, dense active sites and can be applied in the potassium- and sodium-ion batteries. Through mixing with single-walled carbon nanotubes, the prepared composite anode material Cobtbpy-0.9 achieved a high reversible capability, delivering 416 mAh/g in the potassium-ion batteries and 379 mAh/g in the sodium-ion batteries at 0.05 A/g. The outstanding properties of Cobtbpy-0.9 in the batteries demonstrated that this MOFs-based carbon composite is a highly desirable electrode material candidate for high-performance potassium- and sodium-ion batteries.

Abstract
Combining the advantages of dual-ion batteries (DIBs) and sodium-ion batteries (SIBs), we herein develop a superior sodium-based dual-ion battery (Na-DIB) based on the PTCDA organic anode and ionic liquid (IL) electrolyte. The system shows the highest specific discharge capacity of 177 mAh g-1 at 0.5C and excellent capacity retention over 100% at 2C after 200 cycles. Notably, even at an ultrahigh rate of 20C, the battery still maintains a considerable capacity of 60 mAh g-1 with a coulombic efficiency (CE) close to 100 and 94% capacity retention after 1000 cycles. Moreover, the self-discharge of the system has been investigated and shown to have an extremely low value of 0.18% h-1. Consequently, this work presents an excellent Na-DIB system, which could be a promising candidate for large-scale applications.

Abstract
With the rapid development of portable electronic devices, electric vehicles and large-scale grid energy storage devices, there is a need to enhance the specific energy density and specific power density of related electrochemical devices to meet the fast-growing requirements of energy storage. Battery-supercapacitor hybrid devices (BSHDs), combining the high-energy-density feature of batteries and the high-power-density properties of supercapacitors, have attracted mass attention in terms of energy storage. However, the electrochemical performances of cathode materials for BSHDs are severely limited by poor electrical conductivity and ion transport kinetics. As the rich redox reactions induced by transition metal compounds are able to offer high specific capacity, they are an ideal choice of cathode materials. Therefore, this paper reviews the currently advanced progress of transition metal compound-based cathodes with high-rate performance in BSHDs. We discuss some efficient strategies of enhancing the rate performance of transition metal compounds, including developing intrinsic electrode materials with high conductivity and fast ion transport; modifying materials, such as inserting defects and doping; building composite structures and 3D nano-array structures; interfacial engineering and catalytic effects. Finally, some suggestions are proposed for the potential development of cathodes for BSHDs, which may provide a reference for significant progress in the future.

Abstract
There are still many problems that hinder the development of sodium-ion batteries (SIBs), including poor rate performance, short-term cycle lifespan, and inferior low-temperature property. Herein, excellent Na-storage performance in fluorophosphate (Na3 V2 (PO4 )2 F3 ) cathode is achieved by lattice regulation based on charge balance theory. Lattice regulation of aliovalent Mn2+ for V3+ increases both electronic conductivity and Na+ -migration kinetics. Because of the maintaining of electrical neutrality in the material, aliovalent Mn2+ -introduced leads to the coexistence of V3+ and V4+ from charge balance theory. It decreases the particle size and improves the structural stability, suppressing the large lattice distortion during cathode reaction processes. These multiple effects enhance the specific capacity (123.8 mAh g-1 ), outstanding high-rate (68% capacity retention at 20 C), ultralong cycle (only 0.018% capacity attenuation per cycle over 1000 cycles at 1 C) and low-temperature (96.5% capacity retention after 400 cycles at -25 °C) performances of Mn2+ -induced Na3 V1.98 Mn0.02 (PO4 )2 F3 when used as cathode in SIBs. Importantly, a feasible sodium-ion full battery is assembled, achieving outstanding rate capability and cycle stability. The strategy of aliovalent ion-induced lattice regulation constructs cathode materials with superior performances, which is available to improve other electrode materials for energy storage systems.

Abstract
As two-dimensional (2D) materials, bismuth (Bi) has large interlayer spacing along c-axis (0.395 nm) which provides rich active sites for sodium ions, thus guaranteeing high sodium ion storage activity. However, its poor electrical conductivity, combined with its degraded cycling performance, restricts its practical application. Herein, Bi microsphere coated with nitrogen-doped carbon (Bi@NC) was synthesized. Owing to the unique Bi crystals and nitrogen-doped carbon layer, the obtained Bi@NC anode exhibited satisfactory cycling stability and superior rate capability. Moreover, after assembling Bi@NC anode with Na3 V2 (PO4 )3 @C cathode to full battery, excellent sodium storage performance was obtained (57 mA h g-1 after 2000 cycles at 1.0 A g-1 ).

Abstract
To prepare a hierarchical micro-nano structure FeF3·0.33H2O simply and economically, a one-pot method with dual surfactants was used. Scanning electron microscopy and a Fourier transformation infrared spectrometer revealed that polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) regulates the morphology of the material, while cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) can reshape FF@PVP, it can not only remove PVP at room temperature, but also obtain a hierarchical micro-nano structure. The electrochemical results show that the hierarchical micro-nano structure FF(1.5CTAB 0.5PVP) has the best electrochemical performance. It maintained a high specific capacity of 109.4 mAh g-1 after 100 cycles at 1 C. In particular, under the ultra-high rate discharge of 20 C, the ultra-high specific discharge capacity of 66.4 mAh g-1 was reached. The FF(1.5CTAB 0.5PVP)'s excellent electrochemical performance is mainly due to a large contact area between the electrolyte and active materials.

Abstract
B-doped pyrolytic carbon from poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) was used to enhance the performance of a LiVPO4F/C cathode, which is much cheaper than carbon nanotubes and graphene. The carbon layer in LVPF/C-B3 becomes more and more regular compared with the undoped sample. The electronic conductivity, diffusion coefficient, and rate and cycle performance of the B-doped cathode are greatly improved. The capacities of LVPF/C-B3 at 0.2C, 5C, and 15C are 148.1, 132.9, and 125.6 mAh·g-1, which may be the best reported magnitude. The crystallite structure of LiVPO4F/C is well maintained after 300 charge and discharge cycles. The carbonization process of PVDF is greatly accelerated. These improvements are attributed to the changes in chemical and electronic structures. The generation of BC2O and BCO2 results in many defective active sites, and BC3 promotes the growth of a six-membered carbon ring. According to the first-principles approach based on density functional theory, the state density around the Fermi level of the B-doped pyrolytic carbon is increased. The electronic structure of pyrolytic carbon is transformed from a P-type semiconductor to a metal-like structure through the generation of pyridinic-like and graphitic-like B. Therefore, the electronic conductivity of LiVPO4F/C is increased.
