Abstract
Myocardial infarction (MI) is considered one of the most common cardiac diseases and major cause of death worldwide. The prevalence of MI and MI-associated mortality have been increasing in recent years due to poor lifestyle habits viz. residency, obesity, stress, and pollution. Synthetic drugs for the treatment of MI provide good chance of survival; however, the demand to search more safe, effective, and natural drugs is increasing. Plants provide fruitful sources for powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agents for prevention and/or treatment of MI. However, many plant extracts lack exact information about their possible dosage, toxicity and drug interactions which may hinder their usefulness as potential treatment options. Phytoconstituents play cardioprotective role by either acting as a prophylactic or adjuvant therapy to the concurrently used synthetic drugs to decrease the dosage or relief the side effects of such drugs. This review highlights the role of different herbal formulations, examples of plant extracts and types of several isolated phytoconstituents (phenolic acids, flavonoids, stilbenes, alkaloids, phenyl propanoids) in the prevention of MI with reported activities. Moreover, their possible mechanisms of action are also discussed to guide future research for the development of safer substitutes to manage MI.

Abstract
Objective Pistacia vera is commonly used in traditional medicine to treat various disorders. This study aims to investigate the anti-anemia and hepatoprotective effects of Pistacia vera pericarp extract (PVPE) in a rat model of phenylhydrazine (PHZ)-induced anemia. Materials and Methods PVPE was prepared using the maceration method. The extract was administered at doses of 20, 80, and 160 mg/kg for 28 days to normal and PHZ-treated rats. The effects of PVPE were evaluated in terms of changes in biochemical, histological, hematological, and molecular biomarkers in the liver and blood. Results Administration of PVPE to the anemic animals significantly restored these deleterious effects on hematological parameters compared to the anemic group. Kupffer cell activation was seen in the liver tissue of the anemic rats. Administration of PVPE mitigated these deleterious effects. Conclusion PVPE has potent antioxidant activity and may represent a promising treatment for anemia and liver protection in clinical settings.

Abstract
Background The interest in natural remedies is increasing rapidly as they can serve as alternatives to synthetic drugs and reduce their potential side effects. Current research is focused on examining the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory characteristics of a combination of Cucumis sativus and Citrus macroptera extract in an in-vitro context. The combination of citrus, cucumber, and glycerol extract could serve as an effective alternative to synthetic antioxidants and anti-inflammatory drugs and lower the side effects of the available synthetic drugs. This extract can be used to treat potentially malignant oral disorders like oral leukoplakia, oral submucous fibrosis, and oral lichen planus, which are attributed to its antioxidant properties. Aim To evaluate the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity of formulation of C. sativus, C. macroptera, and glycerol extract. Materials and methods The cucumber and citrus fruits were separated, cleaned, and dried. The cucumber was then peeled, its seeds cleaned, and the pulp cut into pieces. Using a laboratory mortar and pestle, a 5 ml extract was prepared. The citrus fruit was cut in half, its seeds were removed, and a 5 ml extract was prepared from their pulp only. These two extracts were combined to form a 10 ml extract solution with 8 ml of glycerol. The extracts were combined, shaken for 24 hours, filtered, and stored at 4°C. Assays like the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay, Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) assay, Bovine serum albumin (BSA) assay, and Egg albumin (EA) denaturation assay were performed to assess their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Results The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of the extract showed comparable activity (percentage of inhibition: 76% in BSA and EA assays; 90% in DPPH and H2O2 assays) to that of the standard values (percentage of inhibition: 78% in BSA and EA assays; 92% in DPPH and H2O2 assays) at concentrations 30, 40, and 50 µl in the BSA assay, EA assay, DPPH, and H2O2 assay. The maximum concentration at which the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects were appreciable was 50 µl in all assays. Conclusion This study concluded that the combination of cucumber, citrus, and glycerol extract could serve as an effective alternative to synthetic antioxidants and anti-inflammatory drugs currently available. These extracts can provide a promising solution in the field of drug development for treating lesions caused by free radicals and oxidative stress in the oral cavity.

Abstract
Fruits, flowers, leaves, essential oils, hydrosols, and juices of citrus spp. Are utilized to prepare various forms of food products. Along with their nutritional values, in the health industry, different parts of the plants of the citrus genus have been used as supplements or remedies to prevent or control diseases. This review focused on reported meta-analyses and clinical trials on the health benefits of citrus plants as functional foods. Also, chemical compounds of various citrus species were reviewed. The following information sources were used for data collection: Google Scholar, the Web of Science, Scopus, and PubMed. Various keywords, including "citrus AND chemical compounds," "citrus AND phytochemicals," "citrus species," "citrus AND meta-analysis," "nutritional and therapeutical values of citrus spp.," "clinical trials AND citrus," "clinical trials AND Rutaceae," "health benefits of citrus spp.," "citrus edible or non-edible applications," and scientific names of the citrus plants were utilized to collect data for the review. The scientific name and common name of all twenty-eight citrus species, along with any of the above keywords, were also searched in the mentioned databases. Scientific papers and data sources were sought to review and discuss the citrus plant's nutritional and therapeutic importance. Several meta-analyses and clinical trials have reported beneficial effects of citrus spices on a variety of cancer risks, cardiovascular risk factors, neurologic disorders, urinary tract conditions, and gastrointestinal tract conditions. They have shown anxiolytic, antimicrobial, and pain-alleviating effects. Some of them can be helpful in managing obesity and cardiovascular risk factors.

Abstract
Although India has a well-established and growing economy surrounding synthetic drug chemistry with an antibiotic base, a large part of the population, especially in forested villages and tribal belts, is relying solely on plant-derived drugs. This is due to a lower number of side effects, low chances of resistance development against pathogenic microorganisms, as well as the diversity and affordability of such drugs. In the Indian subcontinents, Euphorbia neriifolia Linn. (EN) is one of the valuable plants from the big family of Euphorbiaceae, which is usually found in rocky and hilly areas. E. neriifolia was found to be useful in curing tumors, abdominal swelling, bronchial infection, hydrophobia, earache, cough and cold, asthma, leprosy, gonorrhea, spleen enlargement, leucoderma, snake bites, scorpion stings, and causing appetite improvement, etc. Different in vitro and in vivo experimental studies were performed to determine the antioxidant, anti-diabetic, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic, wound healing, anti-atherosclerosis, radioprotective, anti-anxiety, anti-convulsant, anti-psychotic, anti-thrombotic, dermal irritation, hemolytic, analgesic, anti-fertility, diuretic, anti-microbial, anti-diarrheal, and anti-carcinogenic activities of the various parts of EN. Several bioactive compounds, such as euphol, nerifoliol, taraxerol, euphonerins A–G, lectin, etc., were isolated from E. neriifolia and need to be investigated further for various biological activities (cardiovascular and neuronal diseases). In the pharmaceutical sector, E. neriifolia was selected for the development of new drugs due to its broad pharmacological activities. Therefore, in the present review, distribution, classification, morphological and microscopical description, phytochemical investigation, pharmacological activities, medicinal uses, harmful effects, and their treatment were evaluated, especially against different lifestyle-related diseases.

Abstract
Biogenically synthesized silver nanoparticles (AgNP) increase the fascination over chemical ones due to their facile and green synthetic process. This study reports the development of an eco-friendly and cost-effective synthesis of AgNPs using an aqueous extract of Citrus macroptera fruit peel, an agricultural waste, as a sole agent with both reducing and capping abilities. The formation of AgNPs was verified by the surface plasmon resonance peak at 426 nm in the UV-vis spectrum, X-ray diffraction pattern, and transmission electron micrography images. The AgNPs obtained under the optimized conditions consist of face-centered cubic crystals and spherical morphology with an average size of 11 nm. The AgNPs are coated with phytochemicals in the C. macroptera fruit peel extract and are stably dispersible due to their negatively charged nature. The AgNPs effectively catalyzed the reduction of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol and the degradation of methyl orange and methylene blue in the presence of sodium borohydride. This method employing a fruit peel extract is facile, efficient, eco-friendly, and cost-effective and has potential for industrial green fabrication of AgNPs.

Abstract
The Citrus species from family Rutaceae has worldwide applications such as cardiovascular and gastrointestinal problems. Phytochemical investigations have shown that these plants have constituents including flavonoids, limonoids and carotenoids. There are many reports on a wide range of activities such as antiinflammatory, anti-oxidant, immunomodulatory, metabolic, cardiovascular and neuroprotective effects. In the current review, we discuss information regarding botany, phytochemistry, ethnobotany uses, traditional knowledge and pharmacological aspects of the Citrus species.

Abstract
Growing worldwide, the genus Ephedra (family Ephedraceae) had a medicinal, ecological, and economic value. The extraordinary morphological diversity suggests that Ephedra was survivor of an ancient group, and its antiquity is also supported by fossil data. It has recently been suggested that Ephedra appeared 8–32 million years ago, and a few megafossils document its presence in the Early Cretaceous. Recently, the high analytical power provided by the new mass spectrometry (MS) instruments is making the characterization of Ephedra metabolites more feasible, such as ephedrine series. In this regard, the chemical compounds isolated from crude extracts, fractions, and few isolated compounds of Ephedra species were characterized by MS-based techniques (LC-MS, LC-ESI-MS, HPLC-PDA-ESI/MS, LC-DAD-ESI/MSn, LC/Orbitrap MS, etc.). Moreover, we carry out an exhaustive review of the scientific literature on biomedicine and pharmacotherapy (anticancer, antiproliferative, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antihyperlipidemic, antiarthritic, and anti-influenza activities; proapoptotic and cytotoxic potential; and so on). Equally, antimicrobial and antioxidant activities were discussed. This review is focused on all these topics, along with current studies published in the last 5 years (2015–2019) providing in-depth information for readers.
