Abstract
Objective To ensure the best possible care, the perspective of PHC nurse work experience during the COVID-19 pandemic should be considered when developing nursing care protocols for older patients who receive PHC services. Method This exploratory qualitative study was conducted with 18 nurses working continuously in PHC between the first and fifth waves of the pandemic. Semi-structured thematic interviews were undertaken. Qualitative thematic content analysis was conducted to identify and group the themes that emerged from the discourse. Interviews were transcribed and analyzed using thematic analysis. Results The first topic describes the nurses' experiences of physical and mental suffering in caring for older patients in response to the pandemic. The second topic covers the experience of reorganizing PHC work. The third topic focuses on the difficulties of caring for older patients. The final topic includes issues of support needs for nurses in PHC work. Conclusion The experience and understanding of PHC nurses in caring for older people during the COVID pandemic should lead to significant changes in the system of nursing care for geriatric patients and in the cooperative role within geriatric care specialist teams. Drawing on the experience of COVID-19, it is necessary to work on the weak points of PHC exposed by the pandemic in order to improve the quality of care and life for geriatric patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The COVID-19 pandemic placed health care personnel (HCP) at risk for stress, anxiety, burnout, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). To address this, hospitals developed programs to mitigate risk. The objectives of the current study were to measure the availability and use of these programs in a cohort of academic emergency departments (EDs) in the United States early in the pandemic and identify factors associated with program use. METHODS Cross-sectional survey of ED HCP in 21 academic EDs in 15 states between June and September 2020. Site investigators provided data on the availability of 28 programs grouped into 9 categories. Individual support programs included: financial, workload mitigation, individual COVID-19 testing, emotional (e.g., mental health hotline), and instrumental (e.g., childcare) Clinical work support programs included: COVID-19 team communication (e.g., debriefing critical incident), patient-family communication facilitation, patient services (e.g., social work, ethics consultation), and system-level exposure reduction. Participants provided corresponding data on whether they used the programs. We used generalized linear mixed models clustered on site to measure the association between demographic and facility characteristics and program use. RESULTS We received 1,541 survey responses (96% response rate) from emergency physicians or advanced practice providers, nurses, and nonclinical staff. Program availability in each of the 9 categories was high (>95% of hospitals). Program use was variable, with clinical work support programs used more frequently (28-50% of eligible HCP across categories) than individual employee support programs (6-13% of eligible HCP across categories). Fifty-seven percent of respondents reported that the COVID-19 pandemic had affected their stress and anxiety, and 12% were at elevated risk for PTSD. Program use did not significantly differ for HCP who reported symptoms of anxiety and/or stress compared to those who did not. CONCLUSIONS Early in the pandemic, support programs were widely available to ED HCP, but program use was low. Future work will focus on identifying barriers and facilitators to use and specific programs most likely to be effective during periods of highest occupational stress.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Work-related stress negatively impacts employee wellbeing. Stress-management interventions that reduce workplace stress can be challenging. Immersive technologies, such as virtual reality (VR), may provide an alternative. AIMS This systematic review aimed to evaluate feasibility, acceptability, and effectiveness of immersive technologies to promote workplace wellbeing (PROSPERO 268460). METHODS Databases MEDLINE, Web of Science, PsycINFO and Embase were searched until 22nd July 2021. Studies were included if they tested a workforce or were designed for a workplace. Effective Public Health Practice Project quality assessment tool (EPHPP) was used for quality ratings. RESULTS There were 17 studies (N = 1270), published 2011-2021. Over half were conducted in Europe. Eight studies were controlled trials. Most studies involved brief, single sessions of immersive VR and provided evidence of feasibility, acceptability, and effectiveness when measuring wellbeing-related variables such as stress, relaxation, and restoration. VR environments included relaxation tasks such as meditation or breathing exercises, and nature-based stimuli, such as forests, beaches, and water. Studies tested office workers, healthcare professionals, social workers, teachers, and military personnel. EPHPP ratings were "strong" (N = 1), "moderate" (N = 13), and "weak" (N = 3). CONCLUSIONS VR relaxation appears helpful for workplaces. However, limited longer-term data, controlled trials, and naturalistic studies mean conclusions must be drawn cautiously.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The rapid increase in COVID-19 combined with uncertainty surrounding transmission and treatment protocols resulted in unprecedented burnout amongst health care workers. As other health care workers scrambled to support patients, community pharmacists quickly responded to the pandemic by extending their services. This constantly changing environment amongst other factors created a high degree of psychological burden associated with COVID-19 for pharmacists. Although studies have examined the psychological impact of the pandemic on frontline health care workers, pharmacists are rarely included in these studies. OBJECTIVE To examine the impact of COVID-19 on work and personal well-being from the perspective of pharmacists practicing in community pharmacies in Nebraska. METHODS A cross-sectional online survey collected data from pharmacists with an active Nebraska Pharmacist license (N=2763) from November 2022 to January 2023. The survey was a hybrid of researcher-developed items and the validated abbreviated Maslach Burnout Inventory (aMBI). The aMBI is a 9-item Likert-scale scored instrument, which captures three domains of burnout: Personal Accomplishment; Emotional Exhaustion; and Depersonalization. Data was analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 27. RESULTS The response rate to the survey was 12.3% (n=339). Mean age of the respondents was 44.8 years with an average of 18.7 years in practice. Most respondents (n = 113, 50.7%) practiced in a community pharmacy followed by hospital (n = 72, 32.3%). 55.8% of community pharmacists reported that they considered leaving their current employer. Chi-square analysis confirmed that community pharmacists are more burned out than noncommunity pharmacists. CONCLUSIONS Pharmacists realized they had not been recognized for their contributions as frontline health care workers, which motivated them to consider leaving their employer and even the profession of pharmacy. This study found community pharmacists are burned out more than non-community pharmacists. Within community pharmacies, it was found that pharmacists practicing at corporate-owned community pharmacies had increased burnout compared to those practicing in independent community pharmacies.

Abstract
Background Understanding the factors influencing work engagement among nurses is crucial for ensuring high-quality care and positive patient outcomes. Despite numerous factors associated with nurse work engagement, many were explored before the pandemic, potentially overlooking aspects relevant to the current context. Aim To explore and update factors related to nurse work engagement in the new normal era. Design Systematic review. Data Sources The search was restricted to articles published from 2019 to 2024 in CINAHL, PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, and ProQuest, with full English text. The search was conducted from September 13th to 15th, 2023. Quantitative research articles that examined factors related to work engagement were included. Review Methods Data extraction, quality appraisal, and data analysis were performed in all included studies. Manual content analysis method was used to classify and group the factors. Results Sixty-one research articles were included in the final review. Five key groups of factors were generated from content analysis, including 1) individual-related factors, 2) organizational-related factors, 3) job and role-related factors, 4) work-life balance, and 5) work environment. Conclusion Understanding and addressing these multifaceted factors holistically is essential to develop strategies to sustain optimal engagement levels among nursing staff and improve overall patient care outcomes. Further studies are needed to confirm the findings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Supported wellbeing centres established during the COVID-19 pandemic provided high quality rest spaces and access to peer-to-peer psychological first aid for healthcare workers (HCWs). The centres were well accessed and valued by HCWs, but their relationship with wellbeing and job-related factors is not well established. The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between wellbeing centre use, HCWs wellbeing and job-related factors (job stressfulness, job satisfaction, presenteeism, turnover intentions). METHODS Secondary analysis of data from 819 HCWs from an acute hospital trust who completed an online survey in April-July 2020, as part of the COVID-Well study. Measures included the Warwick Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale, and four single-item global measures of job stressfulness, job satisfaction, presenteeism and turnover intentions. ANCOVA models and regression analyses were conducted on these data. RESULTS HCWs who had not accessed the wellbeing centres had lower wellbeing (β = 0.12, p < .001), higher job stressfulness (β = - 0.22, p < .001), lower job satisfaction (β = 0.39, p < .001), higher presenteeism (β = - 0.22, p < .001) and were of younger age (β = 0.09, p = .002). Centre use was associated with wellbeing irrespective of job stressfulness. Those reporting presenteeism and who accessed the centre (M = 3.30, SE = 0.04) had higher wellbeing than those who accessed the centre but did not report presenteeism (M = 3.06, SE = 0.04) (F(1, 791) = 18.65, p < .001, ηp2 = 0.02). Centre use was not significantly associated with turnover intentions (B = - 0.30, p = .13; Wald = 2.26; odds = 0.74), while job stress and job satisfaction showed significant effects. CONCLUSIONS Accessing wellbeing centres was associated with higher wellbeing of HCWs, particularly for those reporting presenteeism. Therefore, the centres may have provided greatest respite and restoration for those present at work but not in optimal health. Younger workers were disproportionately affected in terms of wellbeing, and targeted support for this population is needed. Strategies to decrease presenteeism and maximise job satisfaction are urgently required. Healthcare organisations should provide rest spaces and psychological support to HCWs for the long-term, as part of a systems-wide approach to improving workforce health and wellbeing.

Abstract
AIM This study investigated work impairment and its associated factors among geriatricians during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. METHODS This cross-sectional study was carried out using an anonymous online survey questionnaire administered to members of the Japanese Geriatric Society between October and December 2022. The questionnaire included questions regarding psychological distress (Kessler Psychological Distress Scale), fear of COVID-19 (Fear of COVID-19 Scale) and work impairment (Work Functioning Impairment Scale). Multivariate logistic regression analyses were carried out to determine the factors associated with work impairment. Causal mediation analyses were performed to delineate the relationship between work impairment, psychological distress and fear of COVID-19. RESULTS The analytic sample included 386 geriatricians, and work impairment was observed in 24.8% of them. Work impairment was associated with age, prefecture where the institution was located and fear of COVID-19. Mediation analysis showed that the effect of fear of COVID-19 on work impairment was almost completely mediated by psychological distress. CONCLUSION During the COVID-19 pandemic, work impairment was commonly observed among geriatricians. We found that fear of COVID-19 might cause work impairment; however, this effect was exerted entirely through psychological distress. This implies that interventions to prevent or reduce work impairment among doctors should mainly target psychological distress; however, the fear of COVID-19, if it causes psychological distress, should also be addressed. Managers of hospitals and long-term care facilities must take steps to protect healthcare workers' mental well-being and maintain work productivity. Therefore, understanding the factors related to work impairment might help them devise effective measures. Geriatr Gerontol Int 2024; 24: 215-220.

Abstract
Introduction This study aimed to develop an effective virtual reality (VR)-based intervention program to improve trauma symptoms of survivors of the 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquake. Methods In line with this aim, the sample of the study consisted of 34 earthquake survivors aged 15-72 years (mean: 38.09, standard deviation (SD): 15.09) who were directly affected by the Kahramanmaraş earthquake on February 6, 2023. A five-stage intervention program (normalization, reinterpretation, creating a safe place, developing problem-focused coping strategies, and social support) was applied to 17 participants (mean: 36.88, SD: 13.65), who constituted the intervention group, using VR technology. All participants assigned to the intervention group received the intervention, which included normalization, reinterpreting the earthquake, creating a safe place, problem-focused coping, and increasing social support, one time in a standardized manner. In the stages of reinterpretation, creating a safe place and problem-focused coping VR technology was used and, the stages of normalization and increasing social support were carried out with psychotherapeutic work involving one-to-one interaction between the researcher and the participant. The five-stage intervention program started to be implemented 51 days after the February 6 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes and all stages of the intervention were completed within seven days. Measurements were taken from the participants at two different times: pre-intervention pre-test and post-intervention post-test. The 17 participants in the control group (mean: 39.29, SD: 16.75) were placed on a waiting list. Data were collected using the "Sociodemographic Information Form", "Posttraumatic Growth Inventory", "Scale for Determining the Level of Post-Earthquake Trauma" and "Ways of Coping Scale". Results Before the intervention, the groups were controlled in terms of posttraumatic growth, post-earthquake trauma level, fatalistic coping, social support-seeking coping, and helplessness style coping levels and no difference was observed between them (p>0.05). After the intervention, it was found that the posttraumatic growth and social support-seeking coping scores of the earthquake survivors who received VR-supported intervention were significantly higher than the scores of the control group, and the post-earthquake trauma level, fatalistic coping and helplessness style coping scores were significantly lower than the control group scores (p<0.05). As a result of the in-group analyses, it is seen that the post-traumatic growth, social support-seeking coping and problem-focused coping scores of the intervention group participants after the VR-supported intervention increased statistically significantly compared to the pre-intervention, while the post-earthquake trauma level, fatalistic coping and helplessness style coping scores decreased statistically significantly compared to the pre-intervention (p<0.05). However, it is seen that the scores of the control group participants from all other scales of the Ways of Coping Scale, except for the fatalistic coping subscale, did not change statistically significantly (p>0.05). Conclusion As a result of the analysis, it is seen that the VR-supported intervention program developed is effective in improving the trauma symptoms of earthquake survivors. The rapid and statistically significant reduction in the trauma levels of earthquake survivors as a result of the developed intervention shows that the relevant intervention can be applied in other trauma areas and suggested for further studies.

Abstract
The coronavirus pandemic has generated and continues to create unprecedented demands on our healthcare systems. Healthcare workers (HCWs) face physical and psychological stresses caring for critically ill patients, including experiencing anxiety, depression, and posttraumatic stress symptoms. Nurses and nursing staff disproportionately experienced COVID-19-related psychological distress due to their vital role in infection mitigation and direct patient care. Therefore, there is a critical need to understand the short- and long-term impact of COVID-19 stress exposures on nursing staff wellbeing and to assess the impact of wellbeing programs aimed at supporting HCWs. To that end, the current study aims to evaluate an evidence-informed peer support stress reduction model, Stress First Aid (SFA), implemented across units within a psychiatric hospital in the New York City area during the pandemic. To examine the effectiveness of SFA, we measured stress, burnout, coping self-efficacy, resilience, and workplace support through self-report surveys completed by nurses and nursing staff over twelve months. The implementation of SFA across units has the potential to provide the workplace-level and individual-level skills necessary to reduce stress and promote resilience, which can be utilized and applied during waves of respiratory illness acuity or any other healthcare-related stressors among this population.

Abstract
When health professionals experience moral distress during routine clinical practice, they are challenged to maintain integrity through conscientious practice guided by ethical principles and virtues that promote the dignity of all human beings who need care. Their integrity also needs preservation during a crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic, especially when faced with triage protocols that allocate scarce resources. Although a crisis may change our ability to provide life-saving treatment to all who need it, a crisis should not change the ethical values that should always be guiding clinical care. Enduring ethical commitments should encourage clinicians to base treatment decisions on the medical needs of individual patients. This approach contrasts with utilitarian attempts to maximize selected aggregate outcomes by using scoring systems that use short-term and possibly long-term prognostic estimates to discriminate between patients and thereby treat them unequally in terms of their eligibility for life-sustaining treatment. During times of crisis and calm, moral communication allows clinicians to exercise moral agency and advocate for their individual patients, thereby demonstrating conscientious practice and resisting influences that may contribute to compartmentalization, moral injury, and burnout.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE Risk management and control of airborne transmission in hospitals is crucial in response to a respiratory virus pandemic. However, the formulation of these infection control measures is often based on epidemiological investigations, which are an indirect way of analyzing the transmission route of viruses. This can lead to careless omissions in infection prevention and control or excessively restrictive measures that increase the burden on healthcare workers. The study provides a starting point for standardizing transmission risk management in designated hospitals by systemically monitoring viruses in the air of typical spaces in COVID-19 hospitals. The negative results of 359 air samples in the clean and emergency zones demonstrated the existing measures to interrupt airborne transmission in a designated COVID-19 hospital. Some positive cases in the corridor of the contaminant zone during rounds and meal delivery highlighted the importance of monitoring airborne viruses for interrupting nosocomial infection.

There is a decided lack of data regarding nurse suicide or the efficacy of evidence-based prevention programs. This article examines the state of nurse suicide and explores the latest statistics on nurse suicide rates; contributing factors to nurse suicide; and current suicide prevention programs, such as the Critical Incident Stress Management and Healer Education Assessment and Referral programs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Literature investigating the impact of COVID-19 on healthcare professionals barely addresses predictors of somatic symptom burden during the COVID-19 pandemic. AIMS As biopsychosocial models propose that not only the disease but also sociodemographic and psychosocial factors contribute to the development and maintenance of symptoms, this study investigates the predictive value of these factors for bothersome somatic symptoms in SARS-CoV-2 negative healthcare professionals. METHODS German healthcare professionals were assessed with self-rating questionnaires and underwent SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibody tests at baseline and 8 weeks later between April and August 2020. Differences in psychosocial variables between the time points were analyzed and regression analyses were performed to predict somatic symptoms at follow-up. RESULTS 1185 seronegative healthcare professionals completed both assessments. Previous somatic symptom burden, higher levels of anxiety, being a nurse, younger age, higher psychological symptom burden, lower efficiency, and higher fatigability at baseline predicted somatic symptom burden at follow-up. Comparisons between baseline and follow-up showed a significant improvement in psychological impairment and deterioration of physical exhaustion. CONCLUSIONS Our study applies a biopsychosocial perspective to bothersome somatic symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic and contributes to the identification of potential risk factors as a starting point for future interventions that could support the handling of symptoms.

Abstract
Introduction COVID-19 is a new disease infecting a large number of people, and undoubtedly have psychological impacts on healthcare workers. Among healthcare staff, nurses are the most involved ones in fighting against COVID-19. Therefore, this study aimed to explore nurses' experiences of psychological consequences during caring patients with COVID-19. Methods The present qualitative study was conducted using the conventional content analysis approach (Graneheim and Lundman) Iran. Participants in this study included 15 nurses working with patients with COVID-19, selected by purposive sampling. Data were collected using in-depth interviews. The rigor of data was assessed using the criteria proposed by Guba and Lincoln. Results Nurses reported the four following psychological consequences of COVID-19 pandemic on caring patients with COVID-19: post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, physical exhaustion, and aggressive behaviors. Conclusion The data showed that nurses experienced a variety of psychological consequences during caring patients with COVID-19. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor nurses' psychological problems and implement interventions to improve their mental health.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study explores fears and worries regarding SARS-CoV-2 risk of infection and transmission to relatives, co-workers, and patients in relation to non-pharmacological preventive interventions among healthcare workers (including physicians, nurses, aides, cleaners, maintenance, and security staff) in a healthcare institution in Barcelona (Spain), during the first and second waves of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. METHOD The research used an explorative qualitative approach. Six focus groups and ten individual interviews were conducted online and audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim and analysed using thematic analysis and mixed coding. RESULTS Forty professionals participated in the study. Four common themes emerged in all groups: challenges related to the lack of pandemic preparedness, concerns about personal protective equipment, unclear guidelines for case and contact tracing, and communication-related difficulties. CONCLUSIONS This study emphasizes the key recommendations to improve non-pharmacological preventive interventions to reduce workers' fears and worries about the risk of infection and spreading the infection to others, including families. Above all, these should include ensuring the availability, and correct use of adequate personal protective equipment, improve guidelines on case and contact tracing, and setting effective communication channels for all workers of the organization. These recommendations must be reinforced in maintenance and security personnel, as well as night shift nurses and aides, to also reduce health inequalities.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to train and test preliminary models using two machine learning algorithms to identify healthcare workers at risk of developing anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. The study included data from a prospective cohort study of 816 healthcare workers collected using a mobile application during the first two waves of COVID-19. Each week, the participants responded to 11 questions and completed three screening questionnaires (one for anxiety, one for depression, and one for post-traumatic stress disorder). Then, the research team selected two questions (out of the 11), which were used with biological sex to identify whether scores on each screening questionnaire would be positive or negative. The analyses involved a fivefold cross-validation to test the accuracy of models based on logistic regression and support vector machines using cross-sectional and cumulative measures. The findings indicated that the models derived from the two questions and biological sex accurately identified screening scores for anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorders in 70% to 80% of cases. However, the positive predictive value never exceeded 50%, underlining the importance of collecting more data to train better models. Our proof of concept demonstrates the feasibility of using machine learning to develop novel models to screen for psychological distress in at-risk healthcare workers. Developing models with fewer questions may reduce burdens of active monitoring in practical settings by decreasing the weekly assessment duration.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Since the 2019 COVID-19 pandemic is not the first and will not be the last, pharmacists' experiences during this period can be used to establish a more efficient healthcare system to face future pandemics. OBJECTIVE This study aims to explore Iranian pharmacists' experiences in pharmacies using the content analysis method. METHODS In this qualitative study, a conventional content analysis approach was applied. Ten male and female pharmacists working in community pharmacies in Birjand, Iran participated using a purposeful sampling method. Semi-structured interviews were carried out for data collection. The data were analyzed using Graneheim and Lundman's method. RESULTS Four categories and ten subcategories were extracted as follows: Multifaceted concerns of pharmacists (familial, economical, professional, and personal concerns), Non-compliance with protocols from occurrence to cause (facing non-compliance with protocols by clients, obstacles to complying with protocols in the pharmacy), Prevention from COVID-19 (protective equipment usage, designing protection rules), and Double reactions to COVID-19 (emotional and; practical reactions). CONCLUSIONS Pharmacists dealt with different concerns and challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. They are one of the main primary care providers and need to be supported by the authorities to maintain their standard level of services.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study observes the trends and patterns among trainees during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and their response to resident education and hospital/program support. METHODS An anonymous online 31-question survey was distributed to medical students and postgraduate year residents. Topics included were demographics, clinical responsibilities, educational/curricula changes, and trainee wellness. Descriptive analysis was performed for each set of demographic groupings as well as 2 and 3 group comparisons. RESULTS Total 1051 surveys collected, 930 used for analysis: 373 (40.1%) male, 434 (46.6%) aged 30-34 years, 588 (63.2%) white, 417 (44.8%) married, 168 (18%) with children, and 323 (34.7%) from the Northeast region. The Northeast experienced difficulty sleeping, feelings of guilt, hopelessness, and changes in appetite (P = .0077). The pandemic interfered significantly with relationships and living situations (P < .0001). Trainees 18-34 years believed the pandemic affected residency training (P < .0001). Surgical residents were concerned about reaching numbers of operative procedures to graduate (P < .0001). Residency programs adhered to ACGME work restrictions (P < .0001). CONCLUSION We aim to provide continued educational support for our trainees' clinical development and well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract
Nursing professional development practitioners and leadership staff implemented a second Transitional Mentor Education Program. The pilot program was classroom based; however, with pandemic restrictions, a shift to deliver a hybrid mentoring program was needed. Learning needs, clinician well-being, and professional development were addressed. Regardless of the method of educational delivery, the nurses in Phase 2 achieved the same outcomes as the pilot program, including increased clinical confidence, communication, integration of stress reduction strategies, and reflective practice.

Abstract
To decrease burnout and improve mental health and resiliency among doctors, nurses, and hospital staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, the University of Colorado partnered with ECHO Colorado to offer the state's healthcare workforce an interactive, psychoeducational, and online intervention that encouraged connection and support. The series utilized the Stress Continuum Model as its underlying conceptual framework. Between July 2020 and February 2022, 495 healthcare workers in Colorado participated in the series across eight cohorts. One-way repeated measures ANOVAs were performed to test for differences in pretest and posttest scores on series' objectives. Healthcare workers showed significant improvement from pretest to posttest in (1) knowing when and how to obtain mental health resources, F(1, 111) = 46.497, p < 0.001, (2) recognizing of the importance of being socially connected in managing COVID-related stress, F(1, 123) = 111.159, p < 0.001, (3) managing worries, F(1, 123) = 94.941, p < 0.001, (4) feeling prepared to manage stressors related to the pandemic, F(1, 111) = 100.275, p < 0.001, (5) feeling capable in dealing with challenges that occur daily, F(1, 111) = 87.928, p < 0.001, and (6) understanding the Stress Continuum Model F(1, 123) = 271.049, p < 0.001. This virtual series showed efficacy in improving the well-being of healthcare workers during a pandemic and could serve as a model for mental health support for healthcare workers in other emergency response scenarios.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mental health problems affect 1 in 6 workers annually and are one of the leading causes of sickness absence, with stress, anxiety, and depression being responsible for half of all working days lost in the United Kingdom. Primary interventions with a preventative focus are widely acknowledged as the priority for workplace mental health interventions. Line managers hold a primary role in preventing poor mental health within the workplace and, therefore, need to be equipped with the skills and knowledge to effectively carry out this role. However, most previous intervention studies have directly focused on increasing line managers' understanding and awareness of mental health rather than giving them the skills and competencies to take a proactive preventative approach in how they manage and design work. The Managing Minds at Work (MMW) digital training intervention was collaboratively designed to address this gap. The intervention aims to increase line managers' knowledge and confidence in preventing work-related stress and promoting mental health at work. It consists of 5 modules providing evidence-based interactive content on looking after your mental health, designing and managing work to promote mental well-being, management competencies that prevent work-related stress, developing a psychologically safe workplace, and having conversations about mental health at work. OBJECTIVE The primary aim of this study is to pilot and feasibility test MMW, a digital training intervention for line managers. METHODS We use a cluster randomized controlled trial design consisting of 2 arms, the intervention arm and a 3-month waitlist control, in this multicenter feasibility pilot study. Line managers in the intervention arm will complete a baseline questionnaire at screening, immediately post intervention (approximately 6 weeks after baseline), and at 3- and 6-month follow-ups. Line managers in the control arm will complete an initial baseline questionnaire, repeated after 3 months on the waitlist. They will then be granted access to the MMW intervention, following which they will complete the questionnaire post intervention. The direct reports of the line managers in both arms of the trial will also be invited to take part by completing questionnaires at baseline and follow-up. As a feasibility pilot study, a formal sample size is not required. A minimum of 8 clusters (randomized into 2 groups of 4) will be sought to inform a future trial from work organizations of different types and sectors. RESULTS Recruitment for the study closed in January 2022. Overall, 24 organizations and 224 line managers have been recruited. Data analysis was finished in August 2023. CONCLUSIONS The results from this feasibility study will provide insight into the usability and acceptability of the MMW intervention and its potential for improving line manager outcomes and those of their direct reports. Abstract
BACKGROUND This study sought to evaluate the risk factors behind developing psychological problems as per specific mental health assessment instruments. This study focuses specifically on frontline healthcare professionals of the COVID-19 pandemic era, and evaluated the psychological assessment of frontline healthcare professionals. METHODS Studies reporting on the psychological assessment of frontline healthcare professionals were retrieved from the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Ovid, EBSCO, and Cochrane Library databases. The recommended method was used to assess the risk of bias of the included studies. The random-effects method was applied when significant heterogeneity was observed. RESULTS The combined results from the 20 included articles indicated that frontline healthcare professionals had a higher risk of developing anxiety in comparison with non-frontline healthcare workers, with similar levels of depression scoring were observed. Healthcare providers aged > 40 years had a lower probability of developing anxiety and seemed to experience minimal depression. Conversely, frontline workers had a higher incidence of anxiety than that of depression. Being single (not in a relationship) could influence the PHQ-9 scores instead of those concerning the GAD-7. The gender gap was not proven to be significantly wide between healthcare professionals with or without anxiety; however, being male was proven to be positively correlated with depression. CONCLUSION In general, the risk factors for susceptibility to psychological problems among frontline healthcare professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic concerned those of a lower age, being single, being male, and being engage in frontline healthcare work.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of the study was to ascertain the views and experiences of those working in urgent and emergency care (UEC) settings towards screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT) for alcohol, to inform future practice. OBJECTIVES To explore i) views towards health promotion, ii) views towards and practice of SBIRT, iii) facilitators and barriers to delivering SBIRT, iv) training needs to support future SBIRT practice, and v) comparisons in views and attitudes between demographic characteristics, geographical regions, setting and occupational groups. METHODS This was an open cross-sectional international survey, using an online self-administered questionnaire with closed and open-ended responses. Participants were ≥18 years of age, from any occupational group, working in urgent and emergency care (UEC) settings in any country or region. RESULTS There were 362 respondents (aged 21-65 years, 87.8% shift workers) from 7 occupational groups including physicians (48.6%), nurses (22.4%) and advanced clinical practitioners (18.5%). Most believed that health promotion is part of their role, and that SBIRT for alcohol prevention is needed and appropriate in UEC settings. SBIRT was seen to be acceptable to patients. 66% currently provide brief alcohol advice, but fewer screen for alcohol problems or make alcohol-related referrals. The most common barriers were high workload and lack of funding for prevention, lack of knowledge and training on SBIRT, lack of access to high-quality resources, lack of timely referral pathways, and concerns about patient resistance to advice. Some views and attitudes varied according to demographic characteristics, occupation, setting or region. CONCLUSIONS UEC workers are willing to engage in SBIRT for alcohol prevention but there are challenges to implementation in UEC environments and concerns about workload impacts on already-burdened staff, particularly in the context of global workforce shortages. UEC workers advocate for clear guidelines and policies, increased staff capacity and/or dedicated health promotion teams onsite, SBIRT education/training/resources, appropriate physical spaces for SBIRT conversations and improved alcohol referral pathways to better funded services. Implementation of SBIRT could contribute to improving population health and reducing service demand, but it requires significant and sustained commitment of time and resources for prevention across healthcare organisations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Continuing professional development (CPD) is perceived as a pivotal component of building and maintaining nursing skill and capacity. Exploring motivators for CPD engagement can aid program adaptation and improvement. The goal of this study was to survey the barriers, enablers, and changes of Australian RNs' engagement with CPD in general during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. An additional goal was to understand factors influencing the interest of participants to engage with programs focused on care for people with intellectual disability and/or autism. METHOD This study was a cross-sectional exploratory survey. RESULTS Most of the sample had engaged with CPD in the previous 12 months, and the most reported topics were related to COVID-19. Sixty percent of nurses saw a change in volume of CPD. Younger nurses, with fewer years of experience, and practicing in major cities, were significantly more likely to report less CPD. CONCLUSION It is pivotal that the design and promotion of CPD curricula consider the motivators and barriers for nurses' engagement with them. [J Contin Educ Nurs. 2023;54(9):405-412.].

Abstract
INTRODUCTION During epidemics such as COVID-19, healthcare workers (HCWs) face several challenges, leading to a shortage and weakening of human resources. To address this issue, employing effective strategies is essential in maintaining and strengthening human resources during outbreaks. This study aimed to gather and classify strategies that could retain and strengthen human health resources during epidemics. METHODS In this scoping review, all studies published about strategies for maintaining and strengthening HCWs in epidemics were collected from 4 international databases, including PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science. The English language articles published after 2000 up until June 2022 recommended specific strategies regarding the research question. Then, they were analyzed and classified according to thematic analysis based on Braun and Clarke 6 phases protocols. RESULTS In total, 9405 records were screened, of which 59 articles were included, and their full texts were reviewed. Fifty factors were identified and classified into five themes: Instruction, Protection, Supporting, Caring, and Communication. Most of the suggestions were conducted in high-income countries and related to the Supporting theme. DISCUSSION The majority of strategies discussed in the literature addressed only one or two aspects of human resources. This study provides a holistic perspective on these issues by providing a thematic map of different strategies for strengthening and maintaining HCWs during epidemics. Considering the multidimensionality of human nature, it is suggested that policymakers and managers of health systems provide facilities that simultaneously address a wide range of needs.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic is over, but US healthcare workers (HCWs) continue to report high levels of work-related exhaustion and burnout but are unlikely to seek help. Digital tools offer a scalable solution. Between February and June 2022, we surveyed Missouri hospital administrators to assess HCW mental health and identify related evidence-based or evidence-informed resources. Simultaneously, we conducted a digital survey and focus groups with HCWs and leaders at Washington University School of Medicine (WUSOM) in St. Louis to evaluate HCW mental health needs, and preferences for digital support. Here, we describe the results and subsequent development of the Gateway to Wellness (G2W) program, a digital precision engagement platform that links HCWs to the most effective tailored resources for their mental health needs.

Abstract
Emotional instability and stress are the main disturbances that condition the learning process, affecting both teachers and students. The main objective of this review is to analyze the influence of stress and emotions (as part of stress) on the learning environment. Stress is a physiological mechanism that the organism develops to adapt and survive external and internal challenges. In this context, stress tends to be seen as a negative condition in the learning process when it is chronic. Extreme stress situations, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, can generate anxiety and frustration in students. However, other studies indicate that controlled stress can positively enhance the learning process. On the other hand, the quality and intensity of emotions resulting from stress can influence as well the learning process. Positive emotions are healthy and can promote optimal learning. Emotions lead to sentimental, cognitive, behavioral, and physiological changes, which will have a strong influence on intellectual performance. The activation of coping strategies constitutes a key mechanism for dealing positively with problems and challenges, generating positive emotions essential for the self-regulation of learning. In conclusion, correct management of emotions in stressful situations could promote effective learning through enhanced attention and capacity to solve problems.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the association between fear of COVID-19 and risk perception with preventive behavior in health professionals from four Latin American countries. An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted. Health professionals with on-site care in Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, and Peru were surveyed. Information was collected through an online self-report questionnaire. The main variables were preventive behavior as the dependent variable and fear of COVID-19 and risk perception as independent variables. Linear regression was used, and unstandardized beta coefficient and value of ps were calculated. Four hundred and thirty-five health professionals were included, the majority were aged 42 years or older (45.29, 95%CI: 40.65-50.01) and female (67.82, 95%CI: 63.27-72.05). It was shown that the greater the fear of COVID-19, the greater the preventive behavior of COVID-19 infection (B = 2.21, p = 0.002 for total behavior; B = 1.12, p = 0.037 for additional protection at work; B = 1.11, p < 0.010 for hand washing). The risk perception of COVID-19 infection had a slight direct relationship with preventive behaviours (B = 0.28, p = 0.021 for total behavior; B = 0.13, p = 0.015 for hand washing), with the exception of the preventive behavior of using additional protection at work (p = 0.339). We found that fear and risk perception are associated with increased practice of hand washing and use of additional protection at work. Further studies are required on the influence of working conditions, job performance and the occurrence of mental health problems in frontline personnel with regard to COVID-19.

Abstract
A growing number of various studies focusing on different aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic are emerging as the pandemic continues. Three variables that are most commonly used to describe the course of the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide are the number of confirmed SARS-CoV-2 cases, the number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths, and the number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered. In this paper, using the multiscale geographically weighted regression, an analysis of the interrelationships between the number of confirmed SARS-CoV-2 cases, the number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths, and the number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered were conducted. Furthermore, using maps of the local R2 estimates, it was possible to visualize how the relations between the explanatory variables and the dependent variables vary across the study area. Thus, analysis of the influence of demographic factors described by the age structure and gender breakdown of the population over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic was performed. This allowed the identification of local anomalies in the course of the COVID-19 pandemic. Analyses were carried out for the area of Poland. The results obtained may be useful for local authorities in developing strategies to further counter the pandemic.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The authors explored the experiences of psychiatry residents caring for patients during the COVID-19 pandemic on a medical unit. METHODS From June 2020 through December 2020, structured, individual interviews were conducted with psychiatry residents deployed to internal medicine wards in a community hospital to provide medical care to COVID-19 patients for greater than or equal to 1 week. Interviews were recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed using thematic analytical methods. RESULTS Psychiatry residents (n = 16) were interviewed individually for approximately 45 min each. During the interviews, many residents described emotions of fear, anxiety, uncertainty, lack of preparedness, and difficulty coping with high patient mortality rates. Many of the residents expressed concerns regarding insufficient personal protective equipment, with the subsequent worries of their own viral exposure and transmission to loved ones. Multiple residents expressed feeling ill-equipped to care for COVID-19 patients, in some cases stating that utilizing their expertise in mental health would have better addressed the mental health needs of colleagues and patients' families. Participants also described the benefits of processing emotions during supportive group sessions with their program director. CONCLUSIONS The COVID-19 pandemic represents a public health crisis with potential negative impacts on patient care, professionalism, and physicians' well-being and safety. The psychiatry residents and fellows described the overwhelmingly negative impact on their training. The knowledge gained from this study will help establish the role of the psychiatrist not only in future crises but in healthcare as a whole.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The COVID-19 pandemic intensified the risk factors for poor mental health among care workers in the UK. However, there is inadequate evidence on the mental health impact of COVID-19 on Black, Asian, and minority ethnic (BAME) care workers in particular. This study seeks to explore mental health experiences and coping strategies of BAME care workers who worked in nursing and residential care homes during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHOD This is a qualitative study conducted between February and May, 2021 in Luton, England. A sample of n = 15 care workers from BAME background working in nursing and residential care homes were recruited purposively using the snowball sampling technique. In-depth interviews were conducted around topics such as views on COVID-19, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health and coping during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data from the interviews was analysed using the Framework Analysis Approach. RESULTS The COVID-19 pandemic had a negative impact on the participants' mental health as they experienced stress, depression, anxiety, trauma and paranoia. The majority of the participants explained that they managed their mental health by belief in God and religious practices, by keeping themselves busy doing activities they were passionate about, following government guidelines on the prevention of COVID-19, seeing the service users happy and some participants managed through support that was offered by the government. However, some participants did not have any support for their mental health. CONCLUSION Issues such as increased workload associated with COVID-19 restrictions engendered mental health problems among BAME care workers, however, the workload only further increased during the pandemic, but the health and social care sector was already affected by heavy workload due to staff shortages and this needs to be addressed through increasing their wages to encourage more people to work in the health and social care sector. In addition, some BAME care workers never received any support for their mental health during the pandemic. Hence, integrating mental health services such as counselling, supportive psychotherapy and recreational therapies in care homes could help to support the mental health of care workers in the COVID-19 era.

Abstract
AIMS This work aims to explore staff perceptions of (1) the effectiveness of organizational communication during the COVID-19 pandemic and (2) the impact of organizational communication on staff well-being and ability to progress their work and patient care. BACKGROUND Effective coordination and communication are essential in a pandemic management response. However, the effectiveness of communication strategies used during the COVID-19 pandemic is not well understood. DESIGN An exploratory cross-sectional research design was used. A 33-item survey tool was created for the study. METHODS The study was conducted at a tertiary teaching hospital in Western Australia. Convenience sampling was used to recruit participants from nursing, medical, allied health services, administrative and clerical, and personal support services (N = 325). Data were collected between December 2020 and May 2021. RESULTS Overall, all occupational groups found working during the COVID-19 pandemic stressful, and all groups wanted accessible and accurate communication from management and new policies, procedures, and protocols for future outbreaks. CONCLUSIONS The use of occupational group-relevant strategies and COVID-19 protocols, as well as the on-going use of email, face-to-face meetings with debrief sessions, are needed to improve communication and support staff to fulfil their roles.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Burnout is a global concern for the healthcare community, especially following a disaster response. It is a major obstacle to providing safe and quality health care. Avoiding burnout is essential to ensuring adequate healthcare delivery and preventing psychological and physical health problems and errors among healthcare staff. AIMS This study aimed to determine the impact of burnout on healthcare staff working on the frontline in a disaster context, including pandemics, epidemics, natural disasters, and man-made disasters; and to identify interventions used to mitigate burnout among those healthcare professionals before, during, or after the disaster. METHOD A mixed methods systematic review was used and included a joint analysis and synthesis of data from qualitative and quantitative studies. The was guided by the preferred reporting items for systematic review and meta-analyses (PRISMA) of qualitative and quantitative evidence. Several databases were searched, for example, Medline, Embase, PsycINFO, Web of Science, Scopus, and CINAHL. The quality of included studies was assessed using the Mixed Method Appraisal Tool (MMAT), version 2018. RESULTS Twenty-seven studies met the inclusion criteria. Thirteen studies addressed the impact of burnout in relation to disasters and highlighted the association between burnout and the physical or mental well-being of healthcare workers, work performance, and workplace attitude and behavior. Fourteen studies focused on different burnout interventions including psychoeducational interventions, reflection and self-care activities, and administering a pharmacological product. LINKING EVIDENCE TO ACTION Stakeholders should consider reducing risk of burnout among healthcare staff as an approach to improving quality and optimizing patient care. The evidence points to reflective and self-care interventions having a more positive effect on reducing burnout than other interventions. However, most of these interventions did not report on long-term effects. Further research needs to be undertaken to assess not only the feasibility and effectiveness but also the sustainability of interventions targeted to mitigate burnout in healthcare workers.

Abstract
Objective: To assess the perceived risks and impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on radiation therapists in Saudi Arabia. Methods: A questionnaire was distributed to all radiation therapists in the country. The questionnaire contained questions about demographic characteristics, the extent of the pandemic's impact on hospital resources, risk perception, work-life, leadership, and immediate supervision. The questionnaire's reliability was assessed using Cronbach's alpha; >0.7 was considered adequate. Results: Out of the 127 registered radiation therapists, 77 (60.6%) responded; 49 (63.6%) females; and 28 (36.4%) males. The mean age was 36.8 ± 12.5 years. Nine (12%) of the participants had a past experience with pandemics or epidemics. Further, 46 (59.7%) respondents correctly identified the mode of transmission of COVID-19. Approximately, 69% of the respondents perceived COVID-19 as more than a minor risk to their families and 63% to themselves. COVID-19 had an overall negative impact on work at the personal and organizational levels. However, there was a positive attitude toward organizational management during the pandemic in general; positive responses ranged from 66.2% to 82.4%. Ninety-two percent considered protective resources and 70% considered the availability of supportive staff to be adequate. Demographic characteristics were not significantly associated with the perceived risk. Conclusions: Despite the high perception of risk and negative impact on their work, radiation therapists conveyed a positive overall perception regarding resource availability, supervision, and leadership. Efforts should be made to improve their knowledge and appreciate their efforts.

Abstract
Background Besides biological impact, COVID-19 also poses a threat to psychological wellbeing and the quality of life. Healthcare workers, especially those assuming a front-line post, are at a higher risk of being affected, both physically and psychologically. This study aims to analyse variables potentially associated with burnout and psychological distress among healthcare workers with various health center stratifications, where we commenced a nationwide survey to establish the baseline data. Method An analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted on the 11th - September 18, 2020. Participants were enrolled from healthcare institutions represented by epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia, which were Java, Sumatra, Bali, and were asked questionnaires, including the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale 21 (DASS-21), Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), Somatic Symptom Scale 8 (SSS-8), also Well-Being Index (WBI). A linear mixed effect model was used to analyse how three dimensions of burnout vary across occupations. Results A total of 3629 healthcare workers were analysed in this study. Burnout syndrome was found in 37.5% of healthcare workers. The prevalence of burnout among medical personnel, nurses, and midwives was 44.6%, 33.5%, and 36.2%, respectively. The prevalence of burnout in healthcare workers was most common in Java (38.4%) and healthcare workers who work in the hospital (28.6%). Based on the burnout dimensions, 48.2% of healthcare workers experienced moderate to high emotional exhaustion, 51.8% moderate to high depersonalization, and 96.9% high personal accomplishment. The R 2 values was 0.33,0.28,0.27 for emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal accomplishment model. Calculated power of the emotional exhaustion and depersonalization model was 100% for both midwife and nurse variable. Meanwhile, the power of the personal accomplishment model was 100% for midwife and 94.7% for nurse variable. Conclusion The extent of the three burnout dimensions is pervasive in all occupational levels and the place of work (hospital/community health center).

Abstract
During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, frontline healthcare workers (HCWs) suffered more distress from the possibility of contracting the virus, quarantine, social stigma, and prejudice against their families. Many studies have investigated the impact of the pandemic on HCWs; however, studies or guidelines presenting strategies to overcome these challenges are lacking. As part of a 2020 research project supported by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, titled "Health impact assessment of healthcare workers undertaking coronavirus disease 2019 treatment and management in Korea: Identifying problems and researching effective solutions" (HC20C0003), we created guidelines to respond to serious problems posed by infection control. and burnout among HCWs during COVID-19 response measures throughout the extended pandemic period. We formulated the guidelines by means of a systematic review and collated them with the latest literature. The guidelines will highlight the gravity and impact of infection control and burnout among HCWs responding to COVID-19 and include potential prevention strategies, and they can be used as a reference in the event of another emerging infectious disease outbreak in the future.

Abstract
This article describes the development and evaluation of an online workplace stress reduction toolkit for use by managers of 9-1-1 emergency communication centers (ECCs). A three-step process for development and testing of digital learning resources was used: (1) establishing need and focus through ECC manager stakeholder engagement, (2) pretesting of the toolkit with the target ECC manager audience, and (3) toolkit utilization and evaluation. The toolkit was developed in close partnership with stakeholders throughout the entire process. Toolkit usage was documented via registration data. The evaluation utilized an online survey that included closed and open-ended questions, which were analyzed using descriptive statistics and qualitative thematic analysis. Over a 20-month period, 274 people registered for the toolkit and, of those, 184 (67%) accessed the content. Respondents to the evaluation survey (N = 156) scored the toolkit highly on satisfaction, self-efficacy, and perceived utility measures. Survey respondents reported intent to apply toolkit content through the following: providing organizational resources to help workers take better care of themselves (41%); creating a lower stress worksite environment (35%) and sharing resources with staff to (1) reduce stress (19%), (2) support conflict resolution (21%), and (3) prevent and/or stop bullying (17%). In delivering actionable content to ECC managers, the toolkit shows promise in addressing and mitigating occupational stress in ECCs. Further research needs to determine the relationship of this strategy for reducing ECC stress.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Healthcare professionals have fought hard to restrain the COVID-19 pandemic by providing high-quality care for their infected patients, but in doing so they have developed fears of becoming sick and feelings of isolation and loneliness. The lived experience of respiratory therapists (RTs) in Saudi Arabia who works with these infected patients needs further investigation. The study sought to describe the experiences and coping strategies of Saudi RT managing patients with COVID-19. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study utilized qualitative research methods, specifically employing a phenomenological research design. A total of 25 Saudi RT (RTs) who were in direct contact with COVID-19 patients were selected after they agreed to participate in this study. The study followed a one-on-one semi-structured interview process using the Zoom platform. This qualitative data collection technique focuses on the participants' lived experiences and feelings to discover shared patterns. The data were analyzed via an inductive approach. RESULTS Six themes were found in the RT perceptions including stress while treating COVID patients, managing the fear of catching of Covid 19, feelings towards COVID-19 patients, challenges faced by female RTs, workplace experiences, and excessive workload. CONCLUSIONS RTs feelings dramatically changed throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. All the RTs have developed a self-copying style that has helped them improve their psychosocial behavior to face the pandemic. During the outbreak, frontline RTs' positive and negative emotions intertwined and coexisted. Negative emotions predominated in the beginning, while good feelings emerged gradually. Self-coping methods and psychosocial development were significant factors in RTs mental health while caring for COVID-19 patients.

Abstract
Background and Aims Considering the rapid spread and transmission of COVID-19 and its high mortality rate, self-care practices are of special importance during this pandemic to prevent and control the spread of the virus. In this regard, electronic health systems can play a major role in improving self-care practices related to coronavirus disease. This study aimed to review the electronic health technologies used in each of the constituent elements of the self-care (self-care maintenance, self-care monitoring, and self-care management) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods This scoping review was conducted based on Arksey and O'Malley's framework. In this study, the specific keywords related to "electronic health," "self-care," and "COVID-19" were searched on PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google. Results Of the 47 articles reviewed, most articles (27 articles) were about self-care monitoring and aimed to monitor the vital signs of patients. The results showed that the use of electronic health tools mainly focuses on training in the control and prevention of coronavirus disease during this pandemic, in the field of self-care maintenance, and medication management, communication, and consultation with healthcare providers, in the field of self-care management. Moreover, the most commonly used electronic health technologies were mobile web applications, smart vital signs monitoring devices, and social networks, respectively. Conclusion The study findings suggested that the use of electronic health technologies, such as mobile web applications and social networks, can effectively improve self-care practices for coronavirus disease. In addition, such technologies can be applied by health policymakers and disease control and prevention centers to better manage the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Oncology care professionals are exposed to high levels of stress that can lead to burnout. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of burnout among nurses, oncologists and radiographers working in oncology patient care during the COVID -19 pandemic. METHODS Our electronic questionnaire was sent to e-mail contacts registered in the system of the Hungarian Society of Oncologists and to all oncology staff via an internal information system in each cancer center. Burnout was measured using the Maslach Burnout Inventory, which measures depersonalization (DP), emotional exhaustion (EE), and personal accomplishment (PA). Demographic and work-related characteristics were collected in our self-designed questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, two-sample t-tests, analyzes of variance, Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests were performed. RESULTS A total of 205 oncology care workers' responses were analyzed. Oncologists (n = 75) were found to be significantly more committed to DP and EE (p = 0.001; p = 0.001). Working more than 50 h per week and being on-call had a negative effect on the EE dimension (p = 0.001; p = 0.003). Coming up with the idea of working abroad had a negative effect on all three dimensions of burnout (p ≤ 0.05). Respondents who did not leave their job due to their current life situation had significantly higher DE, EE, and lower PA (p ≤ 0.05). Intention to leave current profession was specific in (n = 24/78; 30.8%) of nurses (p = 0.012). CONCLUSION Our results suggest that male gender, being an oncologist, working more than 50 h per week and taking on call duties have a negative impact on individual burnout. Future measures to prevent burnout should be integrated into the professionals' work environment, regardless of the impact of the current pandemic. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE Prevention and oncopsychological training should be developed gradually at the organisational or personal level to avoid early burnout of professionals.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Since March 2020, when the COVID19 pandemic hit Australia, Victoria has been in lockdown six times for 264 days, making it the world's longest cumulative locked-down city. This Health Impact Assessment evaluated gender disparities, especially women's mental health, represented by increased levels of psychological distress during the lockdowns. METHODS A desk-based, retrospective Health Impact Assessment was undertaken to explore the health impacts of the lockdown public health directive with an equity focus, on the Victorian population, through reviewing available qualitative and quantitative published studies and grey literature. RESULTS Findings from the assessment suggest the lockdown policies generated and perpetuated avoidable inequities harming mental health demonstrated through increased psychological distress, particularly for women, through psychosocial determinants. CONCLUSION Ongoing research is needed to elucidate these inequities further. Governments implementing policies to suppress and mitigate COVID19 need to consider how to reduce harmful consequences of these strategies to avoid further generating inequities towards vulnerable groups within the population and increasing inequalities in the broader society.

Abstract
AIM This study was conducted in three phases. Phase 1 aimed to adapt the Cancer Information Overload Scale and conduct content validity testing. Phase 2 aimed to conduct factorial validity testing of the scale. Phase 3 aimed to assess information overload and the sources of information used by nurses and midwives to keep up-to-date about COVID-19. DESIGN A cross-sectional survey of nurses and midwives working in a metropolitan Local Health District in Sydney, Australia, was conducted from May to June 2020. METHODS Adaptation of the Cancer Information Overload Scale and content validity of the modified scale (as the Pandemic Information Overload Scale) was undertaken by an expert panel comprising of senior nurses and researchers. Factorial validity and reliability of the Pandemic Information Overload Scale were evaluated using exploratory factor analyses using one subsample of the data. Using the second subsample of the data, information overload and sources of information used by nurses and midwives to keep up-to-date about COVID-19 were examined. RESULTS The Pandemic Information Overload Scale is a reliable and valid instrument for measuring information overload among nurses during a pandemic. Its internal consistency was high (α = 0.81, M = 3.84). CONCLUSION The 8-item PIO scale is a brief, reliable and psychometrically sound instrument for measuring nurses' and midwives' perceptions of information overload during COVID-19. Mean scores across this study indicated that participants were experiencing above average information overload. Implementing strategies to reduce this overload would optimize clinical decision making and promote patient safety.

Abstract
Nursing is one of the most stressful and high-risk professions. It is important to identify the psychological problems experienced by nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic and examine the relationship between these problems to devise measures that can properly address them. This study examined mediating effect of work stress in the relationship between fear of COVID-19 and nurses' organizational and professional turnover intentions. Using a cross-sectional research design, this study was conducted on 486 nurses working in seven hospitals in Turkey. The mean age of the participants was 35.24 ± 6.81 and 59.9 % of them were women. The Fear of COVID-19 Scale, the General Work Stress Scale, and the Turnover Intention Scale were used to collect data. A mediation model showed that fear of COVID-19 was positively associated with work stress and organizational and professional turnover intentions. The model also revealed that work stress was positively associated with organizational and professional turnover intentions. Furthermore, the results demonstrated that fear of COVID-19 did not only have a direct effect on organizational and professional turnover intentions but also had an indirect effect on it via increased work stress. Findings improve our understanding of the role of work stress in the relationship between fear of COVID-19 and organizational and professional turnover intentions. The findings are fruitful for tailoring and implementing intervention programs to reduce the adverse psychological impacts of COVID-19 on nurses.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic forced us to face the growing realization that our expectations of staff redeployed to areas other than their usual role did not fully align with their perceptions of safety, competence, and teamwork. This mixed-methods study assessed perceptions of role, preparedness, and management among staff who were deployed from March through June 2020. Our findings support that the rapid reassignment of interprofessional role groups to respiratory illness clinics in the first wave, albeit necessary at the time, may not be the best response in future infectious disease outbreaks.

Abstract
Objectives This study aimed to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on the training of anesthesiologists in Hong Kong. Introduction COVID-19 has caused a substantial impact on anesthesiology training in multiple domains. The challenges faced by both trainees and educators remain a significant concern and adaptations in clinical teaching are warranted. We conducted this study to quantify the impact and identify learning areas in recurring pandemics. Methods Electronic surveys were distributed to anesthesiology trainees and fellows in Hospital Authority in Hong Kong. Data from respondents were collated and analyzed. Reliability analysis and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) were performed. Results A total of 97 responses were collected and analyzed. Majority (59% of trainees and 79% of fellows) agreed that the COVID-19 pandemic negatively impacted anesthesia training overall. Bag-mask ventilation and direct laryngoscopy were the 2 most affected areas in airway training; 47% of fellows observed a technical skill decline among trainees. Most respondents (64% of trainees and 71% of fellows) agreed that simulation sessions could help with residents' training. Exploratory factor analysis indicated the following subscales: loss of educational opportunities, loss of caseload and formal training, loss of technical skills (regional and procedural), loss of technical skills (airway management), the hampering of ICU rotations, and difficulty teaching residents. Conclusion The COVID-19 pandemic has caused disruptions in caseload, technical skills training, work-based assessment, and continued medical education, hampering both trainees' and fellows' education. Measures to counter the effect of the pandemic were discussed. Our findings will help educators better understand the challenges, marshal resources, and plan to enhance trainees' educational experience.

Abstract
Introduction Numerous studies have confirmed the effects of low carbohydrate diet (LChD) on metabolism and chronic diseases. However, there were no bibliometric studies on LChD. This study was conducted through a bibliometric analysis to investigate the current status, hotspots and frontiers trends. Methods We searched all research publications related to LChD from 2002 to 2021 on the Web of Scientific Core Collection (WoSCC). CiteSpace and VOSviewer software was used to analyze countries/regions, institutions, journals, authors, references, and keywords. Results A total of 6938 papers were included, with an increasing trend of annual publication. LChD categories mainly included nutrition, endocrinology, and neurosciences which reflected the interdisciplinary characteristics. USA was with the largest number and the world science center in LChD field. Universities were main research institutions and five of the top 10 institutions were from USA. Eric Heath Kossoff had 101 publications and ranked first. Nutrients was the leading journal. "A randomized trial of a low-carbohydrate diet for obesity" and "Obesity" were considered to be the most co-cited and cited reference respectively. The hotspots of LChD are four aspects, "ketogenic diet", "metabolism disease", "cardiovascular disease" and "cancer". We summarized that "oxidative stress", "gut microbiota", and "inflammation factors" are becoming frontiers trends of LChD research in the future and deserve further study. Discussion Over the past 20 years research on LChD has gained great attention. To better explore LChD field, multilevel mechanism studies will be required in the future.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The COVID-19 pandemic has had a serious impact on the psychological well-being of frontline health care workers. A variety of interventions have been offered to health care workers in their workplace that has them questioning which intervention would be most beneficial. The purpose of this review is to determine what evidence-based interventions would have an impact on alleviating COVID-19-related psychological distress. METHODS A search was conducted from multiple databases, including Pubmed, CINAHL, Joanna Briggs, and Cochrane, using the PRISMA framework. The search included COVID-19 as well as previous pandemics. Critical appraisal and synthesis of the 16 relevant sources of evidence were completed. RESULTS Based on the current evidence, one cannot conclude that any specific intervention is effective for pandemic-relate distress. CONCLUSION The development, implementation, and scientific evaluation of evidence-based interventions to address the immediate, as well as the long-term, psychological effects of COVID-19 on the mental well-being of health care workers, are needed.

Abstract
Support workers are an underrepresented profession that receives less attention with a high degree of responsibilities. The aim of this study was to explore the lived experiences of healthcare support workers within the care sector during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a qualitative semi-structured interview study using an interpretative phenomenology (IP) framework. Fifteen (15) support workers were interviewed while all COVID-19 restrictions from the government were still in place. We identified five main themes: (1) challenging experiences; (2) coping mechanisms; (3) emotions and behaviors arising from the COVID-19 pandemic; (4) external interest on support worker's health; (5) take-home message from the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization selected for the research is a good representative of how care organizations operate within the UK both in terms of policies and staff selection.
