Abstract
Human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) is a retrovirus responsible for adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) and HTLV-1-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP), a progressive neurodegenerative disease. Regulation of viral gene expression plays a key role in viral persistence and pathogenesis. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying this fine-tuned regulation remain poorly understood. Little is known regarding RNA chemical modifications of HTLV-1 RNA and how these affect viral biology and disease development. Post-transcriptional chemical modification of RNA is common in eukaryotes, with N6-methyladenosine (m6A) being the most prevalent. In this study, we investigated the role of m6A RNA modifications on HTLV-1 gene expression. Using MeRIP-Seq, we mapped the sites of m6A modification to the 3' end of the viral genome. We found HTLV-1 RNA, as well as viral oncogene transcripts tax and hbz, contained m6A modifications. m6A-depletion in HTLV-1-transformed cells decreased sense-derived viral genes (Tax, Gag, and Env) and increased antisense-derived Hbz expression. Tax and hbz transcripts were bound by reader proteins YTHDF1 and YTHDC1 in a panel of HTLV-1 T-cell lines. Using expression vectors and shRNA-mediated knockdown, we found that YTHDF1 had opposing effects on viral gene expression, decreasing sense-derived viral genes and increasing antisense-derived Hbz. Upon further study, the YTHDF1 effects on tax abundance were dependent on tax m6A deposition. The nuclear m6A reader protein YTHDC1 affected the abundance of both sense- and antisense-derived viral transcripts and specifically enhanced the nuclear export of tax transcript. Collectively, our results demonstrate global m6A levels and m6A reader proteins YTHDF1 and YTHDC1 regulate HTLV-1 gene expression.IMPORTANCEHuman T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) persistence and pathogenesis are controlled through tight regulation of viral gene expression. The fate of RNA can be controlled by epigenetic modifications that impact gene expression without altering the DNA sequence. Our study details the impact of N6-methyladenosine (m6A) RNA chemical modifications on HTLV-1 gene expression. We found that reductions in global m6A levels affected viral gene expression, decreasing Tax and other sense-derived viral genes, whereas increasing the antisense-derived Hbz. Our results suggest the oncogenic viral transcripts, tax and hbz, are m6A-modified in cells. We found that these viral RNA modifications are interpreted by reader proteins YTHDF1 and YTHDC1, which dictate the fate of the viral RNA. Understanding HTLV-1 RNA chemical modifications offers potential insights into novel therapeutic strategies for HTLV-1-associated diseases.

Abstract
Human T-cell lymphotropic virus 1 (HTLV-1) was subsequently identified as the cause of adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL). While oral manifestations of this disease have been documented, they remain poorly described in the literature. We present the case of a 32-year-old patient who exhibited facial and oral swelling in the upper jaw. Pathological examination confirmed a diagnosis of T-cell lymphoma, with immunohistochemical staining revealing HTLV-1 positivity. Following further diagnostic evaluation, the patient was classified as having stage IV HTLV-1-positive adult T-cell lymphoma. The patient underwent chemotherapy and bone marrow stem cell transplantation, which led to remission of both the oral lesion and the systemic disease. This condition can be highly aggressive, depending on the subtype and stage at diagnosis. To date, only five similar cases have been reported in the literature, with a generally poor survival rate. Therefore, early recognition is crucial for timely management and improved outcomes.

Abstract
Leukemia and its subtypes impose a major public health challenge in China. Identifying the secular trend of leukemia burden is critical to facilitate optimal healthcare planning and improve the management of leukemia. The incidence rates of leukemia from 1990 to 2019 were collected from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 database according to the following: subtype (acute lymphocytic leukemia [ALL], acute myeloid leukemia [AML], chronic lymphocytic leukemia [CLL], chronic myelogenous leukemia [CML], and other leukemia subtypes), sex, and age group. The average annual percentage changes and relative risks were calculated using joinpoint regression and the age-period-cohort model, respectively. The Bayesian age-period-cohort model was also applied to predict the future trend of the incidence of leukemia and its subtypes in the next 25 years. From 1990 to 2019, the age-standardized incidence rates (ASIRs) of leukemia slightly declined in males and females, which is similar to the trend of other leukemia subtypes. However, the four major leukemia subtypes, namely, ALL, AML, CLL, and CML, have been on the rise over the past three decades. The incidence rates of leukemia in children and the elderly were considerably higher than those in other age groups in males and females. Age effects were the most influential risk factor for leukemia incidence. Period effects showed that the risks of leukemia and its subtypes incidence increased with time. For cohort effects, the risks of leukemia and its subtypes were higher among the early-born cohorts compared with the late-born cohorts. The ASIRs of leukemia and its subtypes will continue to increase in the next 25 years. The burden of leukemia and its subtypes is expected to continue to increase in the next 25 years in males and females. A comprehensive understanding of the risk characteristics and disease pattern of leukemia and its subtypes is needed to formulate timely and effective intervention measures to reduce the leukemia burden in China.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Adult T-cell Leukemia/Lymphoma (ATLL) is a rapidly progressing type of T-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma that is developed after the infection by human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1). It could be categorized into four major subtypes, acute, lymphoma, chronic, and smoldering. These different subtypes have some shared clinical manifestations, and there are no trustworthy biomarkers for diagnosis of them. METHODS We applied weighted-gene co-expression network analysis to find the potential gene and miRNA biomarkers for various ATLL subtypes. Afterward, we found reliable miRNA-gene interactions by identifying the experimentally validated-target genes of miRNAs. RESULTS The outcomes disclosed the interactions of miR-29b-2-5p and miR-342-3p with LSAMP in ATLL_acute, miR-575 with UBN2, miR-342-3p with ZNF280B, and miR-342-5p with FOXRED2 in ATLL_chronic, miR-940 and miR-423-3p with C6orf141, miR-940 and miR-1225-3p with CDCP1, and miR-324-3p with COL14A1 in ATLL_smoldering. These miRNA-gene interactions determine the molecular factors involved in the pathogenesis of each ATLL subtype and the unique ones could be considered biomarkers. CONCLUSION The above-mentioned miRNAs-genes interactions are suggested as diagnostic biomarkers for different ATLL subtypes.

Abstract
Cutaneous lymphomas encompass a heterogeneous group of neoplasms with a wide spectrum of clinical presentations, histopathologic features, and prognosis. Because there are overlapping pathologic features among indolent and aggressive forms and with systemic lymphomas that involve the skin, clinicopathologic correlation is essential. Herein, the clinical and histopathologic features of aggressive cutaneous B- and T-cell lymphomas are reviewed. Indolent cutaneous lymphomas/lymphoproliferative disorders, systemic lymphomas, and reactive processes that may mimic these entities are also discussed. This article highlights distinctive clinical and histopathologic features, increases awareness of rare entities, and presents new and evolving developments in the field.

Abstract
Objectives Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) is a blood neoplasm with specific geographic distribution. Although radiotherapy is a palliative treatment that provides long-term local control, single use of radiation leads to complications for patients. To introduce a novel multimodal approach against ATLL, we investigated combinatorial effects of 7-geranyloxycoumarin and radiation in vitro. Methods Viability of MT-2 cells was determined by resazurin assay upon administration of 7-geranyloxycoumarin alone and followed by radiation. Then, apoptosis was detected by annexin V and propidium iodide, and the expression of candidate genes was analyzed by qPCR. Results Findings revealed significant (P<.0001) improvement in radiation effects upon 7-geranyloxycoumarin pretreatment, most notably when cells were pretreated with 5 µg/ml 7-geranyloxycoumarin for 96 h, exposed to 6 Gy radiation and recovered for 48 h. These results were confirmed by flow cytometry, as the percentage of early and late apoptotic cells was increased after combinatorial treatment. In addition, significant (P< .0001) changes in CD44, c-MYC, cFLIPL, BMI-1, NF-κB (Rel A), and P53 expression was induced by 7-geranyloxycoumarin and radiation. Conclusions Current research indicated, for the first time, that combinatorial use of 7-geranyloxycoumarin and ionizing radiation could be considered as an effective therapeutic modality for ATLL.

Abstract
Background Adult T-cell Leukemia/Lymphoma (ATLL) is a cancer disease that is developed due to the infection by human T-cell leukemia virus type 1. It can be classified into four main subtypes including, acute, chronic, smoldering, and lymphoma. Despite the clinical manifestations, there are no reliable diagnostic biomarkers for the classification of these subtypes. Methods Herein, we employed a machine learning approach, namely, Support Vector Machine-Recursive Feature Elimination with Cross-Validation (SVM-RFECV) to classify the different ATLL subtypes from Asymptomatic Carriers (ACs). The expression values of multiple mRNAs and miRNAs were used as the features. Afterward, the reliable miRNA-mRNA interactions for each subtype were identified through exploring the experimentally validated-target genes of miRNAs. Results The results revealed that miR-21 and its interactions with DAAM1 and E2F2 in acute, SMAD7 in chronic, MYEF2 and PARP1 in smoldering subtypes could significantly classify the diverse subtypes. Conclusions Considering the high accuracy of the constructed model, the identified mRNAs and miRNA are proposed as the potential therapeutic targets and the prognostic biomarkers for various ATLL subtypes. Abstract
T Cells comprise many subtypes of specified lymphocytes, and their differentiation and function take place in different tissues. This cellular diversity is also observed in the multiple ways T-cell transformation gives rise to a variety of T-cell neoplasms. This review covers the main types of T-cell malignancies and their specific characteristics, emphasizing recent advances at the cellular and molecular levels as well as differences and commonalities among them.

Abstract
Objectives Despite advances in the treatment of adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL), the survival rate of this malignancy remains significantly low. Auraptene (AUR) is a natural coumarin with broad-spectrum anticancer activities. To introduce a more effective therapeutic strategy for ATLL, we investigated the combinatorial effects of AUR and arsenic trioxide (ATO) on MT-2 cells. Materials and Methods The cells were treated with different concentrations of AUR for 24, 48, and 72 hr, and viability was measured by alamarBlue assay. Then, the combination of AUR (20 μg/ml) and ATO (3 μg/ml) was administrated and the cell cycle was analyzed by PI staining followed by flow cytometry analysis. In addition, the expression of NF-κB (REL-A), CD44, c-MYC, and BMI-1 was evaluated via qPCR. Results Assessment of cell viability revealed increased toxicity of AUR and ATO when used in combination. Our findings were confirmed by accumulation of cells in the sub G1 phase of the cell cycle and significant down-regulation of NF-κB (REL-A), CD44, c-MYC, and BMI-1. Conclusion Obtained findings suggest that combinatorial use of AUR and ATO could be considered for designing novel chemotherapy regimens for ATLL.

Abstract
PURPOSE To describe a patient with orbital adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) and to review the literature on presentation, diagnostics, management, and clinical course of this rare disease. METHODS A systematic literature review. PubMed/MEDLINE and Google Scholar databases were searched for all well-documented cases of orbital/ocular adnexal ATLL. RESULTS Sixteen patients were included in the final analysis. The median age at diagnosis was 47 years (range, 20-85), 9/16 patients (56%) were male, and patients were of Japanese (10/16, 63%), Caribbean (5/16, 31%), or African (1/16, 6%) origin. Proptosis (6/15, 40%) and visual loss (5/15, 33%) were the most common presenting signs. Involvement of adjacent structures was documented in 8 of 16 (50%) patients. All patients had evidence of systemic ATLL, which was identified concurrently with orbital/ocular adnexal disease in 9 of 15 (60%) patients. Management included multi-agent chemotherapy with steroids (9/13, 69%), antivirals (2/13, 15%), biologic agents (4/13, 31%), and umbilical cord blood transplantation (1/13, 8%). Most patients (8/12, 67%) experienced at least partial remission with disease relapse occurring in 6 of 8 patients (75%). The median survival time was 28 months (95% CI, 5.5-50.5 months). CONCLUSIONS Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of orbital and ocular adnexal space-occupying lesions, particularly in male patients from endemic regions. Orbital disease is frequently locally aggressive and presents concurrently with systemic ATLL, highlighting the importance of comprehensive multimodal work-up and multidisciplinary management. Emerging targeted therapies and hematopoietic stem cell transplant may prolong survival.

Abstract
Viruses play an important role in the development of certain human cancers. They are estimated to contribute 16% to all human cancers. Human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) was the first human retrovirus to be discovered and is the etiological agent of adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL), an aggressive T-cell malignancy with poor prognosis. HTLV-1 viral proteins interact with mechanisms and proteins present in host cells for their own benefit, evading the immune system and promoting the establishment of disease. Several viruses manipulate the autophagy pathway to achieve their infective goals, and HTLV-1 is not the exception. HTLV-1 Tax viral protein engages NF-κB and autophagy pathways prone favoring viral replication and T cell transformation. In this review we focus on describing the relationship of HTLV-1 with the autophagy machinery and its implication in the development of ATLL.

Abstract
Lymphomatoid papulosis (LyP) type E is a rare variant of the primary cutaneous CD30+ lymphoproliferative disorders, characterized clinically by large necrotic eschar-like lesions and histopathologically by angiodestructive and angioinvasive infiltrates of CD30+ lymphocytes. As in other forms of lymphomatoid papulosis, type E lesions may undergo spontaneous regression after weeks, with frequent recurrences. We report a 21-year old male with an angiodestructive infiltrate of CD30+ lymphocytes manifesting as a papular eruption rather than ulceration, and suggest that this clinical phenotype might be related to the presence of CD4+ lymphocytes in the inflammatory cell infiltrate.

Abstract
Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma is an aggressive T-cell malignancy caused by the long-term infection of human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1). Our understanding of clinical features still largely relies on the Shimoyama classification developed 30 years ago, which described the 4 clinical subtypes (the smoldering, chronic, lymphoma, and acute types) based on the manifestations of lymphocytosis, elevated lactate dehydrogenase, hypercalcemia, lymphadenopathy, and involvement of the skin, lung, liver, spleen, central nervous system, bone, ascites, pleural effusion, and gastrointestinal tract. HTLV-1-associated lymphoma has a variety of presentations but the presentation of massive lymphadenopathy and compression symptoms is rare and has not been emphasized in the literature. In this article, we describe 2 cases of adult T-cell leukemia/lymphomas that presented with massive cervical nodes or mediastinal nodes with compressing symptoms as the major presenting clinical features. Clinicians should remain aware of this type of presentation by HTLV-1-associated lymphoma, especially in patients who came from endemic areas, even if not all clinical features are present and particularly with hypercalcemia and lytic bone lesions.

Abstract
Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) is a lymphoproliferative disorder of mature CD4-positive T-cell lymphoid cells associated with retrovirus human T-lymphotropic virus type-1 (HTLV-1) with a wide clinical and pathologic spectrum. We report a case of a 53-year-old African man who presented with fever and skin eruptions on the trunk composed of non-itchy erythematous reticulated macules and papules initially suspected for viral exanthem or drug rash. Skin punch biopsy showed a dermal T-cell lymphoid infiltrate with epidermotropism. The patient developed generalized lymphadenopathy and his peripheral blood showed lymphocytosis with atypical lymphocytes with convoluted nuclei. Our initial diagnosis was mycosis fungoides with Sézary syndrome. However, some clinical and histopathologic features were unusual. The acute onset, lack of previous skin lesions, the histomorphologic features of the dermal, nodal and peripheral blood lymphocytes and the geographic origin of the patient raised the suspicion of other T-cell lymphomas, particularly ATLL. This was confirmed by a positive anti-HTLV-1 serology. Our final diagnosis was acute variant ATLL. Different T-cell lymphomas can involve the skin with overlapping clinical, histomorphologic and immunohistochemical features. Some clinical and pathologic features should alarm dermatologists and pathologists to the possibility of ATLL particularly in patients from HTLV-1 endemic geographic areas.

Abstract
Adult T cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) is a mature T cell neoplasm caused by the human oncogenic retrovirus human T lymphotropic virus type-1 (HTLV-1). While several musculoskeletal manifestations have been described in ATLL, skeletal muscle involvement is unusual, with only four cases reported in the English-language literature. We present a rare case of ATLL manifesting as an intra-muscular calf mass in a 58-year-old man who immigrated to the USA from West Africa. While skeletal muscle involvement by lymphoma is uncommon, it remains important to consider within the differential diagnosis when there are suggestive imaging findings because it entails important technical biopsy considerations as well as treatment implications. This case report also raises awareness of ATLL presenting outside of typical HTLV-1 endemic areas, related to current population migration patterns. ATLL should therefore be considered in patients with appropriate risk factors.

Abstract
Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) is a mature T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder associated with the human T lymphotropic virus (HTLV-1) infection. ATLL predominantly affects individuals within HTLV-1 endemic areas such as Japan, areas of Africa, South America, and the Caribbean. HTLV-1 preferentially infects CD4+ T-cells, and several genetic hits must occur before ATLL develops. ATLL is classically divided into four clinical variants based on manifestations of disease: acute, chronic, lymphomatous, and smouldering. As of 2019, a new subtype has been described: lymphoma type of ATL, extranodal primary cutaneous. In this review, emphasis will be taken to describe the common clinicopathologic manifestations of the disease, advances in biomarker discovery, mutational landscape and targeted therapeutic approaches to treat this highly aggressive and frequently lethal type of T-cell lymphoma.

Abstract
Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma has a unique relationship to bone including latency in the marrow, and development of bone invasion, osteolytic tumors and humoral hypercalcemia of malignancy. To study these conditions, we established and characterized a novel mouse model of ATL bone metastasis. Patient-derived ATL cell lines including three that do not express HTLV-1 oncoprotein Tax (ATL-ED, RV-ATL, TL-Om1), an in vitro transformed human T-cell line with high Tax expression (HT-1RV), and an HTLV-1 negative T-cell lymphoma (Jurkat) were injected intratibially into NSG mice, and were capable of proliferating and modifying the bone microenvironment. Radiography, μCT, histopathology, immunohistochemistry, plasma calcium concentrations, and qRT-PCR for several tumor-bone signaling mRNAs were performed. Luciferase-positive ATL-ED bone tumors allowed for in vivo imaging and visualization of bone tumor growth and metastasis over time. ATL-ED and HT-1RV cells caused mixed osteolytic/osteoblastic bone tumors, TL-Om1 cells exhibited minimal bone involvement and aggressive local invasion into the adjacent soft tissues, Jurkat cells proliferated within bone marrow and induced minimal bone cell response, and RV-ATL cells caused marked osteolysis. This mouse model revealed important mechanisms of human ATL bone neoplasms and will be useful to investigate biological interactions, potential therapeutic targets, and new bone-targeted agents for the prevention of ATL metastases to bone.

Abstract
This narrative review, which is based on a systematic literature search following the PRISMA guidelines, provides a general overview of Human T-cell Lymphotropic Virus type 1 (HTLV-1) and associated diseases: Adult T-cell Leukaemia-Lymphoma (ATLL) and HTLV-1-Associated Myelopathy/Tropical Spastic Paraparesis (HAM/TSP) in Latin America, focusing on epidemiology and prevention. Using the published information on HTLV-1, ATLL and HAM/TSP prevalence, we present comprehensive and accurate maps and tables, and developed an algorithm to assist in the prevention of HTLV-1 transmission through breastfeeding while considering socio-economic status. Latin America is an interesting scenario to study HTLV-1 because of the diverse origin of its population. Apart from the expected high prevalence in inhabitants of African ancestry, the presence of endemic foci affecting indigenous populations is particularly striking. ATLL prevention is the biggest challenge in this field. Most ATLL cases are transmitted through breastfeeding; thus, prevention methods to avoid ATLL in endemic countries have to be focused on this. In view of the high inequality in most Latin American countries, reduction in breastfeeding duration, freezing/thawing and pasteurisation of breastmilk can be suitable interventions in poor settings, considering that avoiding the risk of malnutrition and infant mortality must be the priority.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) is an aggressive disease associated with human T-lymphotropic virus type 1 infection, with a very high prevalence in tropical areas but exceptionally rare in Europe and Western countries. CASE PRESENTATION We describe a challenging case of ATLL in a young male patient with Brazilian origin and adopted as a child by an Italian family, presenting to our clinic with atypical T-lymphocytosis and life-threatening lung infections. CONCLUSIONS Diagnosis of ATLL outside of endemic areas can be difficult, requiring a high index of clinical suspicion with careful evaluation of the patient's clinical history. Prognosis is affected by disease stage at presentation and degree of immunosuppression. Few effective treatments are available, although new molecular insights have highlighted the role of host immune response and immune checkpoint blockade inhibitors, given the overexpression of PD-L1 on lymphoma cells and on microenvironment cells.

Abstract
Adult T-cell Leukemia/Lymphoma (ATLL) is an aggressive neoplasm of T lymphocytes associated with Human T-lymphotropic virus type1 (HTLV-1) infection. HTLV-1 is a public health problem because it is endemic in native groups in Latin America, and its infection leads to several chronic diseases as ATLL. We aimed to review current literature of ATLL in order to consider it as a differential diagnosis in front of patients with compatible symptoms. Prognosis is still poor in aggressive and indolent variants, with survival rates from months to few years. Treatment based on chemotherapy, antiretroviral, and allogenic stem cell transplantation are currently improving survival rates, but with limited results.

Abstract
Adult T-cell leukemia–lymphoma (ATL), a rare and aggressive T-cell malignancy caused by human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1), is associated with a poor prognosis. Evidence-based standard treatment options are lacking and outcomes are generally unsatisfactory, particularly for patients with relapsed or refractory disease. Continued research is contributing to changing treatment landscape as a number of existing and investigational agents are evaluated. We describe the epidemiology of HTLV-1 and ATL, discuss the biology behind the disease, review current treatment practices and guidelines, and provide an overview of emerging therapies in ATL, with a focus on those for relapsed or refractory disease.

Abstract
Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) is a rare and often aggressive T-cell leukemia/lymphoma that has been linked to infection by the human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1). ATLL can involve multiple organs including the respiratory airway. A 53-year-old Trinidadian woman presented with productive cough and progressive shortness of breath. Her past medical history included duodenal strongyloidosis, skin rash, and hypercalcemia. Radiological studies showed increased interstitial markings. Sputum cytology showed atypical pleomorphic, small-to-medium-sized, lobated lymphocytes with irregular and hyperchromatic nuclei resembling "flower cells" which were CD3±/CD20- by immunocytochemistry. A lung biopsy showed interstitial, peribronchiolar, and subpleural infiltration by a CD3±/CD25± atypical lymphocytic infiltrate. Together with peripheral blood findings and positive HTLV-1 serology, the diagnosis of ATLL was made. We suggest that sputum evaluation in patients with ATLL risk factors can be diagnostic.

Abstract
T-cell lymphoproliferative disorders are a heterogeneous group of neoplasms with distinct clinical-biological properties. The normal cellular counterpart of these processes has been postulated based on functional and immunophenotypic analyses. However, T lymphocytes have been proven to be remarkably capable of modulating their properties, adapting their function in relationship with multiple stimuli and to the microenvironment. This impressive plasticity is determined by the equilibrium among a pool of transcription factors and by DNA chromatin regulators. It is now proven that the acquisition of specific genomic defects leads to the enforcement/activation of distinct pathways, which ultimately alter the preferential activation of defined regulators, forcing the neoplastic cells to acquire features and phenotypes distant from their original fate. Thus, dissecting the landscape of the genetic defects and their functional consequences in T-cell neoplasms is critical not only to pinpoint the origin of these tumors but also to define innovative mechanisms to re-adjust an unbalanced state to which the tumor cells have become addicted and make them vulnerable to therapies and targetable by the immune system. In our review, we briefly describe the pathological and clinical aspects of the T-cell lymphoma subtypes as well as NK-cell lymphomas and then focus on the current understanding of their pathogenesis and the implications on diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract
T-cell lymphomas are a group of predominantly rare hematologic malignancies that tend to recapitulate different stages of T-cell development, in a similar way that B-cell lymphomas do. As opposed to B-cell lymphomas, the understanding of the biology and the classification of T-cell lymphomas are somewhat rudimentary, and numerous entities are still included as 'provisional categories' in the World Health Classification of hematolopoietic malignancies. A relevant and useful classification of these disorders have been difficult to accomplish because of the rarity nature of them, the relative lack of understanding of the molecular pathogenesis, and their morphological and immunophenotypical complexity. Overall, T-cell lymphomas represent only 15 % of all non-Hodgkin lymphomas. This review is focused on addressing the current status of the categories of mature T-cell leukemias and lymphomas (nodal and extranodal) using an approach that incorporates histopathology, immunophenotype, and molecular understanding of the nature of these disorders, using the same philosophy of the most recent revised WHO classification of hematopoietic malignancies.

Abstract
Cancer is one of the leading health concerns for human and animal health. Since the tumorigenesis process is not completely understood and it is known that some viruses can induce carcinogenesis, it is highly important to identify novel oncoviruses and extensively study underlying oncogenic mechanisms. Here, we investigated a case of diffuse histiocytic sarcoma in a 22 year old slow loris (Nycticebus coucang), using a broad spectrum virus discovery technique. A novel parvovirus was discovered and the phylogenetic analysis performed on its fully sequenced genome demonstrated that it represents the first member of a novel genus. The possible causative correlation between this virus and the malignancy was further investigated and 20 serum and 61 organ samples from 25 animals (N. coucang and N. pygmaeus) were screened for the novel virus but only samples collected from the originally infected animal were positive. The virus was present in all tested organs (intestine, liver, spleen, kidneys, and lungs) and in all banked serum samples collected up to 8 years before death. All attempts to identify a latent viral form (integrated or episomal) were unsuccessful and the increase of variation in the viral sequences during the years was consistent with absence of latency. Since it is well known that parvoviruses are dependent on cell division to successfully replicate, we hypothesized that the virus could have benefitted from the constantly dividing cancer cells and may not have been the cause of the histiocytic sarcoma. It is also possible to conjecture that the virus had a role in delaying the tumor progression and this report might bring new exciting opportunities in recognizing viruses to be used in cancer virotherapy.
