Abstract
Objective: To investigate the altered function of the semicircular canal and otolith graviceptive pathway in patients diagnosed with motion sickness disorder (MSD) based on the diagnostic criteria of the Bárány society, and explore its relevance to the pathogenesis of MSD. Methods: This is a case-control study. Twenty patients with MSD and age-and sex-matched healthy controls without a history of MSD from the Department of Neurology of Aerospace Center Hospital between March and August 2022 were recruited. All subjects completed the motion sickness susceptibility questionnaire-short version (MSSQ-short) and the motion sickness assessment questionnaire (MSAQ). Canal function was evaluated using caloric stimulation test and video head impulse test (vHIT), and subjective visual vertical/horizontal (SVV/SVH) and vestibular evoked myogenic potential (VEMP) were employed to assess otolith graviceptive function. Differences in vestibular function and correlations between the two groups were analyzed. Results: Each group consisted of 20 cases (9 males and 11 females). The mean age of the MSD and control groups was (26.9±3.9) years and (27.0±3.4) years, respectively. The scores of MSSQ-short [27.0 (22.5, 38.8) vs 1.2 (0, 3.2), P<0.001] and MSAQ [70.1 (54.5, 78.1) vs 11.8 (11.1, 13.9), P<0.001] were significantly higher in the MSD group compared with those of the control group. Evaluation of canal function revealed a significantly higher incidence of caloric stimulation intolerance in MSD patients (60.0%, 12/20) compared with that of the control group (20.0%, 4/20) (P=0.010). Evaluation of otolith graviceptive pathway indicated no significant difference in SVV, SVH and cervical VEMP (cVEMP) abnormality rates between the two groups (all P>0.05). The ocular VEMP (oVEMP) abnormality rate was significantly higher in the MSD group (55.0%, 11/20) than that of the control group (10.0%, 2/20) (P=0.002), with a delayed P1-wave latency compared with the control group [(18.4±1.2) ms vs (17.6±0.8) ms, P=0.018]. Further correlation analysis revealed that P1-wave latency in oVEMP was positively correlated with MSSQ-short (r=0.486, P=0.002) and MSAQ (r=0.391, P=0.015) scores, and duration of caloric intolerance symptoms (r=0.377, P=0.004). Conclusion: The presence of hypersensitivity to caloric stimulation and delayed latency of otolith function in patients with MSD suggests a "separation" between semicircular canal and otolithic function, which may be related to sensory conflict.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii encodes dozens of phosphatases, among which a plant-like phosphatase absent from mammalian genomes named PPKL, which is involved in regulating brassinosteroid signaling in Arabidopsis, was identified in the genome. Among the Apicomplexa parasites, T. gondii is an important and representative pathogen in humans and animals. PPKL was previously identified to modulate the apical integrity and morphology of the ookinetes and parasite motility and transmission in another important parasite, Plasmodium falciparum. However, the exact function of PPKL in the asexual stages of T. gondii remains unknown. METHODS The plant auxin-inducible degron (AID) system was applied to dissect the phenotypes of PPKL in T. gondii. We first analyzed the phenotypes of the AID parasites at an induction time of 24 h, by staining of different organelles using their corresponding markers. These analyses were further conducted for the parasites grown in auxin for 6 and 12 h using a quantitative approach and for the type II strain ME49 of AID parasites. To further understand the phenotypes, the potential protein interactions were analyzed using a proximity biotin labeling approach. The essential role of PPKL in parasite replication was revealed. RESULTS PPKL is localized in the apical region and nucleus and partially distributed in the cytoplasm of the parasite. The phenotyping of PPKL showed its essentiality for parasite replication and morphology. Further dissections demonstrate that PPKL is required for the maturation of daughter parasites in the mother cells, resulting in multiple nuclei in a single parasite. The phenotype of the daughter parasites and parasite morphology were observed in another type of T. gondii strain ME49. The substantial defect in parasite replication and morphology could be rescued by genetic complementation, thus supporting its essential function for PPKL in the formation of parasites. The protein interaction analysis showed the potential interaction of PPKL with diverse proteins, thus explaining the importance of PPKL in the parasite. CONCLUSIONS PPKL plays an important role in the formation of daughter parasites, revealing its subtle involvement in the proper maturation of the daughter parasites during division. Our detailed analysis also demonstrated that depletion of PPKL resulted in elongated tubulin fibers in the parasites. The important roles in the parasites are potentially attributed to the protein interaction mediated by kelch domains on the protein. Taken together, these findings contribute to our understanding of a key phosphatase involved in parasite replication, suggesting the potential of this phosphatase as a pharmaceutic target.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the safety and efficacy of the TRIANGLE operation after neoadjuvant chemotherapy in locally advanced pancreatic cancer(LAPC). Methods: This study is a retrospective case series analysis. Between January 2020 and December 2022, a total of 103 patients were diagnosed as LAPC who underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy at the Pancreas Center, the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University. Among them, 26 patients (25.2%) underwent the TRIANGLE operation. There were 15 males and 11 females,with a age of (59±7) years (range: 49 to 74 years). The pre-treatment serum CA19-9(M(IQR)) was 248.8(391.6)U/ml (range: 0 to 1 428 U/ml),and the serum carcinoembryonic antigen was 4.1(3.8)μg/L(range: 1.4 to 13.4 μg/L). The neoadjuvant chemotherapy regimens included: mFOLFIRINOX regimen in 6 cases(23.1%), GnP regimen in 14 cases(53.8%), and mFOLFIRINOX+GnP regimen in 6 cases(23.1%). The follow-up duration extended until June 2023 or until the occurrence of the patient's death or loss to follow-up. The Kaplan-Meier method was employed to estimate the 1-year and 3-year overall survival rates. Results: After neoadjuvant chemotherapy,CA19-9 levels decreased by 92.3(40.1)%(range:2.1% to 97.7%). Evaluation of the response to treatment revealed 13 cases(50.0%) of stable disease,11 cases(42.3%) of partial response,and 2 cases(7.7%) of complete response. The surgical operation consisted of 12 cases(46.2%) of pancreaticoduodenectomy,12 cases(46.2%) of distal pancreatectomy,and 2 cases(7.7%) of total pancreatectomy. Margin determination was based on the "standardised pathology protocol" and the "1 mm" principle. No R2 and R1(direct) resections were observed,while the R0 resection rate was 61.5%(16/26), and the R1(1 mm) resection rate was 38.5%(10/26).The R1(1 mm) resection rates for the anterior margin,posterior margin,transected margin,portal vein groove margin,and uncinate margin were 23.1%(6/26),19.2%(5/26),12.5%(3/24),2/14, and 1/12, respectively. The overall postoperative complication rate was 57.8%(15/26),with major complications including grade B/C pancreatic fistula 25.0%(6/24,excluding 2 cases of total pancreatectomy),delayed gastric emptying in 23.1%(6/26),wound complications 11.5%(3/26),postoperative hemorrhage 7.7%(2/26), chylous fistula 7.7%(2/26) and bile fistula 3.8%(1/26). No reoperation was performed during the perioperative period(<90 days). One patient died on the 32nd day postoperatively due to a ruptured pseudoaneurysm. A total of 25 patients were followed up,with a follow-up time of 21(24)months(range: 8 to 42 months). During the follow-up period,8 cases(32.0%) died due to tumor recurrence and metastasis,while 17 patients(68.0%) remained alive,including 11 cases of disease-free survival,5 cases of distant metastasis,and 1 case of local recurrence. The overall survival rates at 1- and 3-year after the initiation of neoadjuvant chemotherapy were 95.8% and 58.9%, respectively. The overall survival rates at 1- and 3-year after surgery were 77.7% and 57.8%, respectively. Conclusion: Performing pancreatoduodenectomy according to the Heidelberg triangle protocol in LAPC patients after neoadjuvant chemotherapy might increase the R0 resection rate without increasing perioperative mortality or the incidence of major postoperative complications.

Abstract
Objective: To explore benchmark dose (BMD) estimations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) based on Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) . Methods: A total of 155 adult residents of a coking plant in Shanxi Province who were surveyed in summer (June to August) from 2014 to 2019 were selected as the research objects. Fasting elbow vein blood of the subjects was collected in the morning for automatic analysis and detection of blood routine. Morning urine samples were collected for automatic analysis and detection of urine routine and urine creatinine detection. BKMR model combined with BMD method was used to calculate the acceptable doses of PAHs exposure on red blood cell damage in non-occupational population. Results: The concentration of hydroxylpolycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (OH-PAHs) in the red blood cells abnormal group (n=117) was significantly higher than that in the normal group (n=38) (P<0.01). In the combined effect of OH-PAHs, 2-hydrol-naphthalene contributed the most, and the posterior inclusion probability (PIP) value was 0.9354. When OH-PAHs ≥P(55) concentration, the joint effect on the risk of red blood cell abnormalities increased as the concentration of the OH-PAHs mixture increased. When OH-PAHs were at P(65) and P(75) concentrations, respectively, the risk of red blood cell abnormalities in adults were 3.09 and 4.98 times that of OH-PAHs at P(50) concentrations, respectively. Compared with high concentration, low concentration of OH-PAHs exposure was more sensitive to red blood cell darmage. The acceptable doses of 8 kinds of OH-PAHs were 1.010 μmol/mol Cr (2-hydrol-naphthalene), 0.743 μmol/mol Cr (1-hydrol-naphthalene), 0.901 μmol/mol Cr (2-hydroxy-fluorene) and 0.775 μmol/mol Cr (1-hydroxy-phenanthrene), 0.737 μmol/mol Cr (1-hydroxy-pyrene), 0.607 μmol/mol Cr (9-hydroxy-fluorene), 0.713 μmol/mol Cr (2-hydroxy-phenanthrene) and 0.628 μmol/mol Cr (3-hydroxybenzo[a] pyrene), respectively. Conclusion: OH-PAHs mixture has positive combined effect on red blood cell damage in non-occupational population, and low concentration of OH-PAHs exposure is more sensitive to red blood cell damage. It is recommended that the exposure dose of PAHs should be controlled within 1 μmol/mol Cr.

Abstract
In the apicomplexans, endocytosed cargos (e.g., hemoglobin) are trafficked to a specialized organelle for digestion. This follows a unique endocytotic process at the micropore/cytostome in these parasites. However, the mechanism underlying endocytic trafficking remains elusive, due to the repurposing of classical endocytic proteins for the biogenesis of apical organelles. To resolve this issue, we have exploited the genetic tractability of the model apicomplexan Toxoplasma gondii, which ingests host cytosolic materials (e.g., green fluorescent protein[GFP]). We determined an association between protein prenylation and endocytic trafficking, and using an alkyne-labeled click chemistry approach, the prenylated proteome was characterized. Genome editing, using clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repaet/CRISPR-associated nuclease 9 (CRISPR/Cas9), was efficiently utilized to generate genetically modified lines for the functional screening of 23 prenylated candidates. This identified four of these proteins that regulate the trafficking of endocytosed GFP vesicles. Among these proteins, Rab1B and YKT6.1 are highly conserved but are non-classical endocytic proteins in eukaryotes. Confocal imaging analysis showed that Rab1B and Ras are substantially localized to both the trans-Golgi network and the endosome-like compartments in the parasite. Conditional knockdown of Rab1B caused a rapid defect in secretory trafficking to the rhoptry bulb, suggesting a trafficking intersection role for the key regulator Rab1B. Further experiments confirmed a critical role for protein prenylation in regulating the stability/activity of these proteins (i.e., Rab1B and YKT6.1) in the parasite. Our findings define the molecular basis of endocytic trafficking and reveal a potential intersection function of Rab1B on membrane trafficking in T. gondii. This might extend to other related protists, including the malarial parasites. IMPORTANCE The protozoan Toxoplasma gondii establishes a permissive niche, in host cells, that allows parasites to acquire large molecules such as proteins. Numerous studies have demonstrated that the parasite repurposes the classical endocytic components for secretory sorting to the apical organelles, leaving the question of endocytic transport to the lysosome-like compartment unclear. Recent studies indicated that endocytic trafficking is likely to associate with protein prenylation in malarial parasites. This information promoted us to examine this association in the model apicomplexan T. gondii and to identify the key components of the prenylated proteome that are involved. By exploiting the genetic tractability of T. gondii and a host GFP acquisition assay, we reveal four non-classical endocytic proteins that regulate the transport of endocytosed cargos (e.g., GFP) in T. gondii. Thus, we extend the principle that protein prenylation regulates endocytic trafficking and elucidate the process of non-classical endocytosis in T. gondii and potentially in other related protists.

Abstract
Dental implants have become the mainstream strategy for oral restoration, and implant materials are the most important research hot spot in this field. So far, Ti implants dominate all kinds of implants. The surface properties of the Ti implant play decisive roles in osseointegration and antibacterial performance. Surface modifications can significantly change the surface micro/nanotopography and composition of Ti implants, which will effectively improve their hydrophilicity, mechanical properties, osseointegration performance, antibacterial performance, etc. These optimizations will thus improve implant success and service life. In this paper, the latest surface modification techniques of Ti dental implants are systematically and comprehensively reviewed. The various biomedical functionalities of surface modifications are discussed in-depth. Finally, a profound comment on the challenges and opportunities of this frontier is proposed, and the most promising directions for the future were explored.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the phenotypic-genotypic characteristics of hereditary deafness caused by OTOA gene variations. Methods: Family histories, clinical phenotypes and gene variations of six pedigrees were analyzed, which were diagnosed with hearing loss caused by OTOA gene variations at the PLA General Hospital from September 2015 to January 2022. The sequence variations were verified by Sanger sequencing and the copy number variations were validated by multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) in the family members. Results: The hearing loss phenotype caused by OTOA variations ranged from mild to moderate in the low frequencies, and from moderate to severe in the high frequencies in the probands, which came from six sporadic pedigrees, among which a proband was diagnosed as congenital deafness and five were diagnosed as postlingual deafness. One proband carried homozygous variations and five probands carried compound heterozygous variations in OTOA gene. Nine pathogenic variations (six copy number variations, two deletion variations and one missense variation) and two variations with uncertain significance in OTOA were identified in total, including six copy number variations and five single nucleotide variants, and three of the five single nucleotide variants were firstly reported [c.1265G>T(p.Gly422Val),c.1534delG(p.Ala513Leufs*11) and c.3292C>T(p.Gln1098fs*)]. Conclusions: OTOA gene variations can lead to autosomal recessive nonsyndromic hearing loss. In this study, the hearing loss caused by OTOA defects mostly presents as bilateral, symmetrical, and postlingual, and that of a few presents as congenital. The pathogenic variations of OTOA gene are mainly copy number variations followed by deletion variations and missense variations.

Abstract
Protein prenylation is an important protein modification that is responsible for diverse physiological activities in eukaryotic cells. This modification is generally catalyzed by three types of prenyl transferases, which include farnesyl transferase (FT), geranylgeranyl transferase (GGT-1) and Rab geranylgeranyl transferase (GGT-2). Studies in malaria parasites showed that these parasites contain prenylated proteins, which are proposed to play multiple functions in parasites. However, the prenyl transferases have not been functionally characterized in parasites of subphylum Apicomplexa. Here, we functionally dissected functions of three of the prenyl transferases in the Apicomplexa model organism Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) using a plant auxin-inducible degron system. The homologous genes of the beta subunit of FT, GGT-1 and GGT-2 were endogenously tagged with AID at the C-terminus in the TIR1 parental line using a CRISPR-Cas9 approach. Upon depletion of these prenyl transferases, GGT-1 and GGT-2 had a strong defect on parasite replication. Fluorescent assay using diverse protein markers showed that the protein markers ROP5 and GRA7 were diffused in the parasites depleted with GGT-1 and GGT-2, while the mitochondrion was strongly affected in parasites depleted with GGT-1. Importantly, depletion of GGT-2 caused the stronger defect to the sorting of rhoptry protein and the parasite morphology. Furthermore, parasite motility was observed to be affected in parasites depleted with GGT-2. Taken together, this study functionally characterized the prenyl transferases, which contributed to an overall understanding of protein prenylation in T. gondii and potentially in other related parasites.

Abstract
Objective: To observe the effect of surgical procedures and general anesthesia exposure (<2 h) in early childhood on neurodevelopmental outcomes in school-age. Methods: A total of 147 children aged 6-12 years old, who received surgery under general anesthesia (<2 h) at the age of 0-2 years in Children's Hospital of Nanjing Medical Universityfrom June 2009 to December 2012 were retrospectively enrolled in this study (from June 2018 to December 2021) as exposure group, including 76 males and 71 females, with a mean age of (8.8±1.6) years. All the cases were divided into single-exposure group (n=65) and multiple-exposure group (≥2 times, n=82) according to different times of anesthesia exposure. According to the cohort of exposure group, 160 healthy children of the same age with no history of surgery under general anesthesia were recruited from the community from June 2018 to December 2021 as the control group, including 87 males and 73 females, and aged (8.6±1.9) years. A variety of standardized neurological tests including Wechsler intelligence scale for children fourth edition (WSC-Ⅳ), integrated visual and auditory continuous performance test (IVA-CPT), Swanson Nolan and Pelham, version Ⅳ (SNAP-Ⅳ), children sensory integration capacity development rating scale (CSIC), and social living ability scale were performed in all subjects by a child health specialist who failed to know the details. The primary outcome was the full-scale IQ (FSIQ) in WISC-Ⅳ, and the secondary outcomes were IVA-CPT, SNAP-Ⅳ, CSIC, and social living ability scale. Results: The FSIQ of single-exposure, multiple-exposure and control groups was 105.4±14.1, 100.9±10.2 and 103.6±13.5, respectively, with no statistically significant difference (F=2.37, P=0.095). The FSIQ of different first age exposure groups (aged 0-6 months, 7-12 months and 1-2 years) was 99.8±10.2, 104.5±10.5 and 104.4±14.5, respectively, with no statistically significant difference (F=2.39, P=0.095). The FSIQ of different exposure duration groups (0-59 min, 60-119 min and control group) was 102.8±11.3, 103.0±13.7 and 103.6±13.5, respectively, with no statistically significant difference (F=0.13, P=0.882). As for the secondary outcomes, the scores of visual persistence quotient in single-exposure, multiple-exposure and control groups were 94.8±10.5, 94.0±10.9 and 100.6±17.7, with a statistically significant difference (F=6.96, P=0.001). In terms of locomotion in social living ability scale, the score of the three groups was 10.0±0.2, 10.2±0.6 and 10.4±0.7, respectively, with a statistically significant difference (F=10.61, P<0.001), but all were within the standard range. Conclusions: The surgical procedures and general anesthesia exposure within 2 hours in early childhood has no effect on the overall FSIQ in school age, but has a slight impacts on the visual persistence quotient of IVA-CPT and the locomotion score of social living ability scale.

Abstract
Time-series and case-crossover are two main study designs in environmental epidemiology. However, due to the differences in design principles and model construction between the two analyses, the results of the two analyses may not be consistent. Herein, we examined the short-term effect of cold spells on cardiovascular mortality in Nanjing using both time series and case-crossover analyses, aiming to provide a basis for the selection of appropriate research design in environmental epidemiology.

Abstract
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common disease caused by complex endocrine and metabolic abnormalities in women of childbearing age. Metformin is the most widely used oral hypoglycemic drug in clinic. In recent years, metformin has been used in the treatment of PCOS, but its mechanism is not clear. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of metformin on PCOS and its mechanism through PCOS mouse model. Female C57BL/6J mice aged 4-5 weeks were intragastrically given letrozole (1 mg/kg daily) combined with a high-fat diet (HFD) for 21 days to establish the PCOS model. After modeling, metformin (200 mg/kg daily) was intragastrically administered. One month later, the body weight and oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) were measured. Hematoxylin eosin (H&E) staining was used to detect the pathological changes of ovary. The serum levels of anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), E2 and testosterone (T) were measured by ELISA. The expression of DDX4/MVH was detected by immunohistochemistry. DDX4/MVH and PCNA were co-labeled by immunofluorescence. The protein levels of DDX4/MVH, PCNA, cyclin D2, AMPK and mTOR were detected by Western blot. The results showed that after metformin treatment, the body weights of PCOS mice were gradually returned to normal, glucose tolerance was significantly improved, serum E2 levels were increased, while AMH, LH, T levels and LH/FSH ratio were decreased. Ovarian polycystic lesions were reduced with reduced atresia follicles. Furthermore, the number of proliferative female germline stem cells (FGSCs) and levels of proliferation related proteins (PCNA, cyclin D2) were significantly increased, and the p-mTOR and p-AMPK levels were markedly up-regulated. These results suggest that metformin treatment not only improves hyperandrogenemia, glucose intolerance and polycystic ovarian lesions in PCOS, but also activates the function of FGSCs. The underlying mechanism may be related to the phosphorylation of AMPK and mTOR. These findings provide new evidence to use metformin in the treatment of PCOS and follicular development disorder.

Abstract
To develop dental restorative materials with enamel-like structures, ultralong hydroxyapatite (HA) nanowires were synthesized by a hydrothermal method, followed by functionalization with 3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (KH-570). The mixture of HA nanowires, KH-570, and light initiator was stirred and centrifuged. The precipitate was vacuum filtered to remove excessive KH-570 and then pressured under cold isostatic pressing (10 MPa × 24 h). Finally, the block was polymerized by lighting. Scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy showed that HA nanowires with aspect ratios >1,000 were assembled into enamel rod-like microstructures and evenly dispersed in the polymerized KH-570 silane matrix to form enamel-like structures. Thermogravimetric analysis demonstrated that the content of HA nanowires reached 72 wt% in the composite. The enamel-like composite showed a similar hardness, frictional property, and acid-etching property to those of enamel and a comparable or even better diametral tensile strength and compressive strength than some commercial composite resins in mechanical tests in vitro. In addition, the enamel-like composite had good cytocompatibility. Such enamel-like composites may have the potential to be used in biomimetic tooth restorations in the future.

Abstract
Some researchers argue that holistic processing is unique to face recognition supported
by the face inversion effect. However, findings such as the body inversion effect
challenge the face processing-specificity hypothesis, thus supporting the expertise
hypothesis. Few studies have explored a possible hand inversion effect which could involve
special processing similar to the face and body. We conducted four experiments to
investigate the time course and flexibility of the hand posture inversion effect. We
utilized a same/different discrimination task (Experiments 1 and 2), an identification
task (Experiment 3), and a training paradigm involving the exposure of different hand
orientations (Experiment 4). The results show the hand posture inversion effect (with
fingers up as upright orientation) was not initially observed during the early phase of
testing, but occurred in later phases. This suggests that both lifetime experience and
recent exposure affect the hand posture inversion effect. We also found the hand posture
inversion effect, once established, was stable across days and remained consistent across
different tasks. In addition, the hand posture inversion effect for specific orientations
could be obtained with short-term training of a given orientation, indicating the
cognitive process is flexible.

Abstract
Haemonchus contortus (H. contortus) ADP-ribosylation factor 1 (Hc-ARF1) and Hepatocellular carcinoma-associated antigen 59 (Hc-HCA59) are recognized to largely regulate the immune responses of host cells. However, studies about the protective efficacy of the two molecules are poorly unknown. In this research, combinations of recombinant Hc-HCA59 (rHc-HCA59) and Hc-ARF1 (rHc-ARF1) proteins were amalgamated with poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles adjuvant in order to investigate their protection potential against H. contortus in goats. The results demonstrated that the levels of IgG, IgA, IgE, and IL-4 were noticeably enhanced in the rHc-HCA59 and rHc-ARF1 (rHc-HCA59+rHc-ARF1) group before H. contortus third-stage larvae (L3) challenge. After the L3 challenge, the levels of IL-17, IL-9, and TGF-β were considerably upregulated in the rHc-HCA59+rHc-ARF1 group. In the meantime, the abomasal worm burdens and the fecal eggs were reduced by 63.2% and 69.4% respectively in the rHc-HCA59+rHc-ARF1 group. According to the studies, PLGA nanoparticles immobilized with rHc-HCA59 and rHc-ARF1 proteins conferred partial protection and were expected to be a potential candidate for developing nano vaccines to combat goat haemonchosis.

Abstract
Objective: Based on the geographic information systems, we exploreed the spatiotemporal clustering and the development and evolution of COVID-19 epidemic at prefectural level in China from the time when the epidemic was discovered to the time when the lockdown ended in Wuhan. Methods: The information and data of the confirmed COVID-19 cases from December 8, 2019 to April 8, 2020 were collected from 367 prefectures in China for a spatial autocorrelation analysis with software GeoDa, and software ArcGIS was used to visualize the results. Software SatScan was used for spatiotemporal scanning analysis to visualize the hot-spot areas of the epidemic. Results: The incidence of new cases of COVID-19 had obvious global autocorrelation and the partial autocorrelation results showed that incidence of COVID-19 had different spatial distribution at different times from December 8, 2019 to March 4, 2020. There was no significant difference in global autocorrelation coefficient from March 5, 2020 to April 8, 2020. The statistical analysis of spatiotemporal scanning identified two kinds of spatiotemporal clustering areas, the first class clustering areas included 10 prefectures, mainly distributed in Hubei, from January 13 to February 25, 2020. The secondary class clustering areas included 142 prefectures, mainly distributed in provinces in the north and east of Hubei, from January 23 to February 1, 2020. Conclusions: There was a clear spatiotemporal correlation in the distribution of the outbreaks in the early phase of COVID-19 epidemic (December 8, 2019-March 4, 2020) in China. With the decrease of the case and effective prevention and control measures, the epidemics had no longer significant correlations among areas from March 5 to April 8. The study results showed relationship with time points of start and adjustment of emergency response at different degree in provinces. Furthermore, improving the early detection of new outbreaks and taking timely and effective prevention and control measures played an important role in blocking the transmission.

Abstract
Objective: To identify the differentially expressed genes in nasal epithelial cells from chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP), and to analyze related genes which are involved in deficiency of nasal epithelial barrier in CRSwNP patients by analyzing the datasets download from the gene expression omnibus(GEO) database. Methods: The mRNA expression microarray data numbered GSE107624 (7 CRSwNP and 7 controls) and GSE69093 (13 CRSwNP and 11 controls) were downloaded from the publicly available GEO database. These two datasets were jointly analyzed to screen the differentially expressed genes in nasal epithelial cells of controls and CRSwNP patients. In the meanwhile, we further evaluated the function annotation and regulatory pathways of the differentially expressed genes. To further confirmed what we have observed, sinus tissues were collected from patients with CRSwNP (14 cases, 46.8±17.9 years) and uncinate process tissues were collected from patients with nasal septum deviation (7 cases, 23.4±2.3 years) as control group. The primary epithelial cells of nasal mucosa were cultured and the mRNA level of screened genes were measured by Q-PCR. SPSS 22.0 software was used to for statistical analysis. Results: GSE107624 dataset showed that there were 3 856 differentially genes in nasal epithelial cells between CRSwNP and control group, while there were 771 differentially expressed genes in GSE69093 dataset. Finally, 55 up-regulated genes and 3 down-regulated genes were noticed in nasal epithelial cells of CRSwNP patients in the two datasets. GO gene functional annotation analysis showed that SPTBN1, FNBP1L, VAPB and SNX1 were involved in cell adhesion function, MAP1B was participated in the formation of microtubule related complex. KEGG pathway enrichment analysis indicated that BAMBI and SIAH1 were involved in regulation of Wnt pathway, COL6A1 and EIF4E were involved in the regulation of PI3K-AKT pathway. String protein interaction network analysis assumed that MAP1B and VAPB were the core functional proteins. Among top 3 differentially expressed genes COL6A1, MAP1B and BAMBI, only MAP1B gene was increased in nasal epithelial cells of CRSwNP patients in comparison to controls. Conclusion: The increased MAP1B gene in epithelial cells of CRSwNP, as well as abnormal regulation of Wnt and PI3K-AKT signal pathways may mediate the barrier dysfunction in CRSwNP.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study explored the rejuvenation mechanisms of Thai polyherbal medicines using different approaches, including in vitro methods, as well as a well-defined nematode model, Caenorhabditis elegans. METHODS THP-R-SR012 decoction was selected from 23 polyherbal medicines, based on metal-chelating and chain-breaking antioxidant capacities. The influences of this extract on the survival and some stress biomarkers of C. elegans under paraquat-induced oxidative stress were evaluated. Furthermore, lifespan analysis and levels of lipofuscin accumulation were examined in senescent nematodes. The phytochemical profile of THP-R-SR012 was analyzed. RESULTS Supplementation with THP-R-SR012 decoction significantly increased the mean lifespan and reduced the oxidative damage to C. elegans under oxidative stress conditions. Further, THP-R-SR012 supplementation slightly influenced the lifespan and the level of lipofuscin accumulation during adulthood. Antioxidant-related phytochemical constituents of THP-R-SR012 decoction were rutin, naringenin, 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid, gallic acid, glycyrrhizic acid, demethoxycurcumin and 18α-glycyrrhetinic acid. CONCLUSION The antioxidant potential of THP-R-SR012 was due to its scavenging properties, its enhancement of antioxidant-related enzyme activities, and the presence of the antioxidant-related compound. These results support the traditional use of THP-R-SR012 decoction as a tonic for nourishing and strengthening the whole body.

Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma-associated antigen 59 (HCA59), one of significant excretory/secretory products of Haemonchus contortus (HcESPs), is identified to have immunomodulatory eff ;ects on host cells. However, protection potential of the molecule in H. contortus remains poorly understood. In this study, H. contortus recombinant HCA59 protein amalgamated with poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticle adjuvant was tested for its protection against H. contortus infection in goats. Fifteen goats were allocated into three groups. On days 0 and 14, rHCA59 group was immunized with PLGA nanoparticles encapsulated with recombinant protein HCA59 (rHCA59-PLGA) respectively. Positive control group was unvaccinated, but challenged with H. contortus third stage larvae (L3). Negative control group was unvaccinated and unchallenged with L3. Goats in rHCA59 group and positive control group were challenged with 8000 H. contortus L3 after 14 days of the second immunization. Following immunization, high level of sera IgG, IgA, and IgE, as well as significantly high production of IL-4 and IL-9 was produced in rHCA59 group. After L3 challenge, the level of IL-17 and TGF-β in rHCA59 group increased obviously. Meanwhile, the fecal eggs and the abomasal worm burdens in rHCA59 group was reduced by 44.1 % and 54.6 %, respectively. The studies suggested that rHCA59-PLGA nanoparticles conferred partial protection and could be a good candidate for the development of nanovaccines against H. contortus infection in goats.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Intestinal dysbiosis has been shown to be associated with the pathogenesis of alcoholic liver disease (ALD), which includes changes in the microbiota composition and bacterial overgrowth, but an effective microbe-based therapy is lacking. Pediococcus pentosaceus (P. pentosaceus) CGMCC 7049 is a newly isolated strain of probiotic that has been shown to be resistant to ethanol and bile salts. However, further studies are needed to determine whether P. pentosaceus exerts a protective effect on ALD and to elucidate the potential mechanism.
AIM To evaluate the protective effect of the probiotic P. pentosaceus on ethanol-induced liver injury in mice.
METHODS A new ethanol-resistant strain of P. pentosaceus CGMCC 7049 was isolated from healthy adults in our laboratory. The chronic plus binge model of experimental ALD was established to evaluate the protective effects. Twenty-eight C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into three groups: The control group received a pair-fed control diet and oral gavage with sterile phosphate buffered saline, the EtOH group received a ten-day Lieber-DeCarli diet containing 5% ethanol and oral gavage with phosphate buffered saline, and the P. pentosaceus group received a 5% ethanol Lieber-DeCarli diet but was treated with P. pentosaceus. One dose of isocaloric maltose dextrin or ethanol was administered by oral gavage on day 11, and the mice were sacrificed nine hours later. Blood and tissue samples (liver and gut) were harvested to evaluate gut barrier function and liver injury-related parameters. Fresh cecal contents were collected, gas chromatography–mass spectrometry was used to measure short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) concentrations, and the microbiota composition was analyzed using 16S rRNA gene sequencing.
RESULTS The P. pentosaceus treatment improved ethanol-induced liver injury, with lower alanine aminotransferase, aspartate transaminase and triglyceride levels and decreased neutrophil infiltration. These changes were accompanied by decreased levels of endotoxin and inflammatory cytokines, including interleukin-5, tumor necrosis factor-α, granulocyte colony-stimulating factor, keratinocyte-derived protein chemokine, macrophage inflammatory protein-1α and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1. Ethanol feeding resulted in intestinal dysbiosis and gut barrier disruption, increased relative abundance of potentially pathogenic Escherichia and Staphylococcus, and the depletion of SCFA-producing bacteria, such as Prevotella, Faecalibacterium, and Clostridium. In contrast, P. pentosaceus administration increased the microbial diversity, restored the relative abundance of Lactobacillus, Pediococcus, Prevotella, Clostridium and Akkermansia and increased propionic acid and butyric acid production by modifying SCFA-producing bacteria. Furthermore, the levels of the tight junction protein ZO-1, mucin proteins (mucin [MUC]-1, MUC-2 and MUC-4) and the antimicrobial peptide Reg3β were increased after probiotic supplementation.
CONCLUSION Based on these results, the new strain of P. pentosaceus alleviated ethanol-induced liver injury by reversing gut microbiota dysbiosis, regulating intestinal SCFA metabolism, improving intestinal barrier function, and reducing circulating levels of endotoxin and proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines. Thus, this strain is a potential probiotic treatment for ALD.

Abstract
In general, the application conditions of linear regression models could be met after the natural logarithmic transformation of data. From the practical perspective, this paper introduced the linear regression models with natural logarithmic transformation of independent variable, dependent variable, and both independent and dependent variables in detail. The paper illustrated why the equation and coefficients could not be directly explained after the natural logarithmic transformation of data. The percentage changes of X and/or Y were applied to elaborate the principle and method for the explanation of the equation and coefficients. Three examples were used to fit simple linear models with natural logarithmic transformation of independent, dependent, and both independent and dependent variables and the results of theses models were explained in detail.

Abstract
目的 评价人组织相容性抗原(HLA)匹配同胞供者外周血干细胞移植(MSD-PBSCT)治疗骨髓增生异常综合征(MDS)的疗效。 方法 回顾性总结2005年9月至2017年12月接受MSD-PBSCT治疗的138例MDS患者临床资料,观察患者总生存(OS)率、无病生存(DFS)率、复发(RR)率及非复发死亡率(NRM),分析影响移植预后的危险因素。 结果 ①中位随访1 050(4~4 988)d,3年OS率、DFS率分别为(66.6±4.1)%、(63.3±4.1)%,3年累积RR率、NRM分别为(13.9±0.1)%、(22.2±0.1)%。②单因素分析显示,发生Ⅲ~Ⅳ度急性移植物抗宿主病(aGVHD)、造血干细胞移植合并症指数(HCT-CI)≥2分组和修订的国际预后积分系统(IPSS-R)极高危组的OS率均显著降低[(42.9±13.2)%对(72.9±4.2)%,χ2=8.620,P=0.003;(53.3±7.6)%对(72.6±4.7)%,χ2=6.681,P=0.010;(53.8±6.8)%对(76.6±6.2)%、(73.3±7.7)%,χ2=6.337,P=0.042]。MDS伴有原始细胞过多-2(MDS-EB2)和MDS转化急性髓系白血病(MDS-AML)患者,移植前接收化疗或去甲基化治疗不改善OS[(60.4±7.8)%对(59.2±9.6)%,χ2=0.042,P=0.838]。③多因素分析显示,HCT-CI是影响移植后OS和DFS的独立危险因素(P=0.012,HR=2.108,95%CI 1.174~3.785;P=0.008,HR=2.128,95%CI 1.219~3.712)。 结论 HCT-CI评价MDS患者移植后预后优于IPSS-R预后分组;发生Ⅲ~Ⅳ度aGVHD是影响移植后OS的不良预后因素;MDS-EB2和MDS-AML患者可以不化疗直接行MSD-PBSCT。

Abstract
Logistic regression is a kind of multiple regression method to analyze the relationship between a binary outcome or categorical outcome and multiple influencing factors, including multiple logistic regression, conditional logistic regression, polytomous logistic regression, ordinal logistic regression and adjacent categorical logistic regression. This paper illustrates the basic principle, independent variable selection and assignment, applied condition, model evaluation and diagnosis for multiple logistic regression model. Moreover, the principle and application for polytomous logistic regression and ordinal logistic regression models were also introduced. By providing SAS codes and detailed explanations of the result for an example of obesity, readers could be able to better understand logistic regression model, and apply this method correctly to their research and daily work, so as to improve their capacity of the data analysis.

Abstract
Interrupted time series (ITS) is a statistical method for the quasi-experimental design specific to the outcome of time series, in which the effectiveness of an intervening measure is evaluated by examining change in slope and immediate change in level. The key feature of ITS is that the secular trend of time series prior to the intervention can be effectively controlled so as to accurately estimate the intervention effect. The design principle and statistical method for ITS were illustrated by an example of evaluating halving policy for the expert registration fee in the general hospital of a city. The segmented linear regression was used to fit the above time series data and the results were explained in detail. Meanwhile, the study design and model fitting along with explanations of the results with respect to the effects of two types of successive interventions and on different time-points of an intervention were illustrated as well in this paper. The existed upward or downward trend should be taken into account in order to accurately estimate the intervention effect as it exists in most of the public health surveillance data. Two parameters, known as change in slope and immediate change in level, were employed to evaluate the effect of the intervention. The ITS analysis can be widely applied to the program evaluation as it could enrich methods of the evaluation compared to the traditional model of the program evaluation.

Abstract
目的 评价异基因造血干细胞移植(allo-HSCT)治疗骨髓增生异常综合征(MDS)的疗效,并分析预后相关因素。 方法 回顾性分析2010年1月至2018年3月接受allo-HSCT治疗的165例MDS患者,主要观察患者总体生存(OS)率、无病生存(DFS)率、复发率及非复发死亡率(NRM),并分析影响预后的危险因素。 结果 全部165例患者中,男105例,女60例,3年OS、DFS率分别为72.5%(95%CI 64.9%~80.1%)、67.4%(95%CI 59.2%~75.6%),3年累积复发率为12.1%(95%CI 7.0%~18.6%),NRM为20.4%(95%CI 14.2%~27.6%)。多因素分析显示,allo-HSCT合并症指数(HCT-CI)是影响OS的独立危险因素(P=0.042,HR=2.094,95%CI 1.026~4.274)。对于难治性贫血伴原始细胞增多(RAEB)及转化为急性髓系白血病(sAML)患者,移植前应用化疗或去甲基化治疗对总体OS无影响[(67.0±7.5)%对(57.7±10.9)%,χ2=0.025,P=0.874]。 结论 allo-HSCT是治疗MDS的有效手段,非复发死亡是影响生存的主要原因。移植前化疗或去甲基化治疗或许不能使RAEB和sAML患者获益。

Abstract
Bacillus cereus (B. cereus) functions as a probiotic in animals, but the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. We aim to evaluate the protective effects and definite mechanism by which orally administered B. cereus prevents D-galactosamine (D-GalN)-induced liver injury in rats. Twenty-one Sprague–Dawley rats were equally assigned into three groups (N = 7 animals per group). B. cereus ATCC11778 (2 × 109 colony-forming units/ml) was administered to the B. cereus group via gavage, and phosphate-buffered saline was administered to the positive control (PC) and negative control (NC) groups for 2 weeks. The PC and B. cereus groups received 1.1 g/kg D-GalN via an intraperitoneal injection to induce liver injury. The blood, terminal ileum, liver, kidney and mesenteric lymph nodes (MLNs) were collected for histological examinations and to evaluate bacterial translocation. Liver function was also determined. Fecal samples were collected for deep sequencing of the 16S rRNA on an Illumina MiSeq platform. B. cereus significantly attenuated D-GalN-induced liver injury and improved serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and serum cholinesterase levels (P < 0.05 and P < 0.01, respectively). B. cereus modulated cytokine secretion, as indicated by the elevated levels of the anti-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-10 (IL-10) in both the liver and plasma (P < 0.05 and P < 0.01, respectively) and the substantially decreased levels of the cytokine IL-13 in the liver (P < 0.05). Pretreatment with B. cereus attenuated anoxygenic bacterial translocation in the veins (P < 0.05) and liver (P < 0.05) and upregulated the expression of the tight junction protein 1. The gut microbiota from the B. cereus group clustered separately from that of the PC group, with an increase in species of the Ruminococcaceae and Peptococcaceae families and a decrease in those of the Parabacteroides, Paraprevotella, and Desulfovibrio families. The potential probiotic B. cereus attenuated liver injury by restoring the gut flora balance and enhancing the intestinal barrier function.

Abstract
Analyses of the multivariate regression model are ued very widely in the medical research. Analytical methods of the mutivariate regression model including multiple linear regression, logistic regression, Poisson regression and Cox proportional hazard model were introduced in this article. The contents of the article covered the application conditions of regression models, analytical procedures, strategies of selecting independent variables, extended discussions of regression models and application notes. It is expected that authors could understand the principle of the mutivariate regression model, accurately use these analytical methods in their research, improve the efficiency of data utilization, and enhance the level of statistical analyses.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma-associated antigen 59 (HCA59), which is one of the most important excretory/secretory products of Haemonchus contortus (HcESPs), is known to have antigenic functions. However, its immunomodulatory effects on host cells are poorly understood. METHODS Here, we cloned the HCA59 gene and expressed the recombinant protein of HCA59 (rHCA59). Binding activities of rHCA59 to goat peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and dendritic cells (DCs) were checked by immunofluorescence assay (IFA) and the immunoregulatory effects of rHCA59 on cytokine secretions, cell migration, cell proliferation, nitric oxide production, and changes in expression of genes in related pathways were observed by co-incubation of rHCA59 with goat PBMCs and DCs. Monocyte phagocytosis and characterization of goat blood DC subsets were detected by flow cytometry. RESULTS The IFA results revealed that rHCA59 could bind to PBMCs and DCs. Treatment of PBMCs with rHCA59 significantly increased cellular proliferation and NO production in a dose-dependent manner, while cell migration was vigorously blocked. Treatment with rHCA59 significantly suppressed monocytes phagocytosis. The quantity of surface marker CD80 on DCs increased significantly after rHCA59 treatment. In addition, the expression of genes included in the WNT pathway was related to the differentiation and maturation of DCs, and the production of IL-10 and IL-17 produced by PBMCs was altered. CONCLUSIONS Our findings illustrated that rHCA59 could enhance host immune responses by regulating the functions of goat PBMCs and DCs, which would benefit our understanding of HCA59 from parasitic nematodes contributing to the mechanism of parasitic immune evasion.

Abstract
As a famous spectroscopy method for substance detection and classification, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is not a nondestructive detection method. Considering the precious samples and the experimental environment, sometimes it is difficult to get enough spectra to build the classification model, which is important for qualitative analysis. In this paper, a spectral generation method for extending the spectral database of LIBS is proposed based on generative adversarial nets (GAN). After enough interactive training, the generated spectra looked very similar to the experimental spectra. Evaluated with unsupervised clustering methods PCA and K-means, the generated spectra could not be distinguished from the real spectra. For each type of sample, most of the simulated spectra and experimental spectra were clustered into the same class, which meant the proposed method was effective to extend the spectral database. Using the spectral database extended by this method as training set data to build the SVM model, the results showed that when there were only a few experimental spectra, the combination of the generated spectra and the experimental spectra for building the classification model could achieve better identification results.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the influence of caregiver burden on quality of life among caregivers for patients with lung cancer in Beijing. Methods: From August to October in 2017, 336 caregivers for patients with primary lung cancer from a large tertiary hospital were recruited to this survey by convenient sampling method. The Caregiver Reaction Assessment (CRA) and the WHO Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) Instruments were used to evaluate the caregiver burden and quality of life. The demographic characteristics were evaluated using Pearson chi-square or Fisher's exact tests. In addition, using the 4 dimensions of quality of life scale as the dependent variables while the 5 dimensions of caregiver burden and demographic variables as the explanatory variables, we conducted the multiple linear stepwise regression analysis (the defaults were 0.15 for FORWARD and BACKWARD). Results: The scores of family caregivers' esteem, impact on schedule, impact on finances, impact on health and lack of family support were 4.30±0.47、3.55±0.74、3.10±0.91、2.60±0.78、2.32±0.73, respectively. Regression results showed that demographic factors, including marriage, occupation and relationship with patients and impact on health, caregivers' esteem and impact on finances dimensions of caregiver burden were the factors which influenced the quality of life of caregivers. Conclusions: The caregiver burden in patients with lung cancer is mainly focused on impact on schedule and finances. Impact on health, finances and caregivers' esteem (seven items were reverse-scored) are significantly negatively correlated with quality of life of caregivers.

Abstract
Objective: To study the clinical features of late-onset neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders(LONMOSD). Methods: Twenty-eight patients with LONMOSD and fifty-one patients with early-onset neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders(EONMOSD) hospitalized in Navy General Hospital from January 2014 to May 2017 were enrolled and were followed up by telephone or outpatient visiting. The clinical manifestations, laboratory examinations and imaging features of the two groups were compared. Results: (1)The average age of onset in group LONMOSD was(59±6) years old, and 24 cases were female(85.7%). (2) The history of prodromal infection in LONMOSD patients was less reported than that in group EONMOSD(14.3 vs 37.3%, P<0.05), but concomitant diseases were more common in LONMOSD patients(53.6% vs 3.9%, P<0.05). (3) In group of LONMOSD, the patients with transverse myelitis(TM )as the first symptom were less than that of EONMOSD group (39.3% vs 64.7%, P<0.05). (4) There was no significant difference in EDSS score either in acute or remission stage, laboratory and imaging findings between the two groups. Conclusion: Patients with LONMOSD have less history of prodromal infection, and those with TM as the first symptom are less than EONMOSD patients.

Objective:To analyze the clinical features and recovery rate of post-traumatic olfactory dysfunction (PTOD) in Chinese adults in a case control follow-up study. Method:The clinical data of 202 patients who were diagnosed with olfactory dysfunction between January 2015 and December 2016 and followed up for 14 to 473 days were analyzed in this retrospective study. The patients were divided into those with PTODs (PTOD group) and those without PTODs (non-PTOD group). The two groups were compared with regard to age (years), sex, olfactory function (Sniffin' sticks), gustatory function (triple drop method), chemosensory evoked potentials, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) characteristics of olfactory pathways. The recovery rate of PTOD was evaluated by Sniffin' sticks and triple drop method. Result:Patients in the PTOD group (40±11 years) were significantly younger than those in the non-PTOD group (47±15 years), whereas the number of men and women was similar in both groups. The mean TDI score (Sniffin' sticks) was significantly different between the PTOD (12±5) and non-PTOD (19±8) groups (P<0.05). The mean oERP P2 latency was significantly shorter for the non-PTOD group (418±64 ms) than for the PTOD group (483±82 ms, P<0.05). There were no significant differences in the mean oERP N1 latency, N1 amplitude, P2 amplitude, mean tERP P2 latency and MRI between the two groups. After the follow-up period, 8.9% (5/56) and 5.4% (3/56) patients in the PTOD group exhibited an improvement in olfactory function and gustatory function, respectively. Conclusion:PTOD should be considered a type of disability that can lead to serious accidents, and an adequate understanding of its clinical features and etiologies is critical for appropriate diagnosis and treatment and for improving the prognosis of treatment. The rate of recovery of olfactory function is higher than that of gustatory function in patients with PTOD; further investigations are required in this regard.

Abstract
Using the guidelines of health economic evaluation reporting is conducive to regulating the contents of this reporting, improving the quality of studies into health economics evaluation. This article summarized the history of the guidelines and specified the instrument used to study " Quality of Health Economic Studies (QHES)" and the checklist about Consolidated Health Economics Evaluation Reporting Standards (CHEERS)-the two specific evaluation contents in this guideline, the article also introduced its present application status of the guideline and its pros and cons. The checklist of CHEERS emphasized the evaluation of this report, while QHES instrument focused on quantitative evaluation on the quality of economic studies. Despite different emphasis, the two guides are actually mutually complemented.

Abstract
Fusarium stalk rot (FSR) caused by Fusarium graminearum (FG) significantly affects the productivity of maize grain crops. Application of agrochemicals to control the disease is harmful to environment. In this regard, use of biocontrol agent (BCA) is an alternative to agrochemicals. Although Trichoderma species are known as BCA, the selection of host-pathogen specific Trichoderma is essential for the successful field application. Hence, we screened a total of 100 Trichoderma isolates against FG, selected Trichoderma harzianum (CCTCC-RW0024) for greenhouse experiments and studied its effect on changes of maize rhizosphere microbiome and biocontrol of FSR. The strain CCTCC-RW0024 displayed high antagonistic activity (96.30%), disease reduction (86.66%), biocontrol-related enzyme and gene expression. The root colonization of the strain was confirmed by eGFP tagging and qRT-PCR analysis. Pyrosequencing revealed that exogenous inoculation of the strain in maize rhizosphere increased the plant growth promoting acidobacteria (18.4%), decreased 66% of FG, and also increased the plant growth. In addition, metabolites of this strain could interact with pathogenicity related transcriptional cofactor FgSWi6, thereby contributing to its inhibition. It is concluded that T. harzianum strain CCTCC-RW0024 is a potential BCA against FSR.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the clinical characteristics of the neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) with the area postrema syndrome as the initial symptom. Methods: A total of 14 cases were enrolled in the study with the diagnose of NMOSD and the area postrema syndrome as the initial symptom. All the clinical data and imaging profiles by the contrasted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the head and spinal cord were collected and analyzed. Results: The median age of onset was (38.1±17.0) years old and the gender ratio of female to male was 10∶4. The serum aquaporin-4(AQP4)-IgG was positive in 11 subjects and several autoimmune antibodies was positive in 7 subjects. The lesions revealed by MRI of the head mainly located in the area postrema and ependymal periphery which often presented as the linear medullary lesion, while linear lesions over three pieces of vertebra were shown by MRI of the spinal cord which mainly in the grey matter and with a"H" shape around the spinal central canal. Misdiagnose happened in 11 subjects with seven of gastroesophageal reflux disease, two of neurogenic vomiting, one of spinal cord tuberculosis and one of stroke. Conclusions: NMOSD should be considered in patients with unexplained intractable nausea, vomiting and/or hiccups lasted for 48 hours or above, especially in those with positive nervous signs. Contrasted MRI and serum AQP4-IgG need to be performed in the suspected patients. Early detection is crucial for patients with NMOSD.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical features of vestibular migraine with MRI changes. Methods: The clinical data of 150 patients with vestibular migraine completing MRI examination in navy general hospital from August 2008 to August 2016 were retrospectively analyzed.Clinical features of 94 (62.7%) vestibular migraine patients with MRI changes were collected and analyzed according to the medical history, clinical symptoms and signs, as well as the result of auxiliary examinations. Results: The manifestations of MRI in vestibular migraine patients were mainly multiple punctate equal T(1) and long T(2) signals or high signals on FLAIR (fluid attenuated inversion recovery) in subcortical white matter. The average age of the patients at the visit was (52±15) years old, with the male to female ratio of 1∶3.1. The occurrence of vertigo and migraine were in no particular order, with 54.3% patients presenting migraine several years before vertigo. The duration of vertigo was mostly 24 hours to 72 hours (31.9%). The visual aura (55.3%), photophobia and phonophobia (67.0%) were the most frequently associated symptoms. Conclusions: The vestibular migraine patients with MRI changes have its own specific clinical characteristics and are mainly seen in female with visual aura. The associated symptoms of vestibular migraine appear mostly during the process of vertigo. The pathogenesis of cerebral white matter hyperintensities (WMHs) is not clear.

Abstract
Radiotherapy is one of the most important treatments for esophageal cancer, but radioresistance remains a major challenge. Previous studies have shown that microRNAs (miRNAs or miRs) are involved in human cancers. miR-124 has been widely reported in various cancers and it is intimately involved in proliferation, cell cycle regulation, apoptosis, migration, and invasion of cancer cells. The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between the miR-124/cyclin-dependent kinase 4 (CDK4) axis and the radiosensitivity of esophageal cancer cells. In this study, we identified the reduced expression of miR-124 in 18 paired esophageal cancer tissues compared to their matched normal tissues. In order to investigate the physiological role of miR-124 in esophageal cancer, the cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay and wound healing assay were performed, and the results suggest that miR-124 overexpression decreases tumor growth and aggression. Next, we detected the effects of ectopic miR-124 expression on the apoptosis of an esophageal cancer cell line (TE-1) following radiotherapy. Using the CCK-8 assay and Hoechst 332528 stain, we found that ectopic expression of miR-124 led to a higher percentage of apoptotic cells. Finally, we identified that CDK4 is a direct target of miR-124 in TE-1 cells using target prediction algorithms and a luciferase reporter assay. Moreover, western blot assay confirmed that CDK4 was downregulated during miR-124 transfection. Taken together, we illustrate that the miR-124/CDK4 axis plays an important role in radiation sensitivity of human esophageal cancer cells by targeting CDK4.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Vitiligo is a skin disorder characterized by loss of melanocytes from the epidermis. A recent study reported that CXCL10 is critical for the progression and maintenance of depigmentation in a mouse model of vitiligo, but there is very limited clinical data regarding this issue and little is known about the dynamic changes or correlations with disease severity of these chemokines throughout the disease course. OBJECTIVES To present clinical data that supports and identifies the pathway of CXCR3 and its ligands in T-lymphocytic cell recruitment in vitiligo. METHODS Cytometric bead array, flow cytometry, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and immunohistology were used to examine their systemic and local expression in 80 patients with vitiligo and 40 controls. RESULTS We showed that serum CXCL9 and CXCL10 were significantly elevated in patients with vitiligo and were higher in patients in progressive stages than in stable stages. The relative expression of CXCR3 mRNA in peripheral blood mononuclear cells was higher in vitiligo. There were higher percentages of both circulating CXCR3(+) CD4(+) and CXCR3(+) CD8(+) T cells in patients with progressive vitiligo compared with controls, while only the expression of CXCR3(+) CD8(+) T cells increased in patients with stable vitiligo. Histological findings also demonstrated an abundance of CXCR3(+) cells within vitiligo lesions. Furthermore, serum CXCL10 levels were associated with Vitiligo Area Scoring Index scores of patients with progressive vitiligo and were reduced after successful treatment. CONCLUSIONS The CXCL10/CXCR3 axis mediates T-cell recruitment into the skin in progressive vitiligo. Blocking this chemotactic mechanism may present a new form of therapy. Serum CXCL10 may be a novel biomarker in monitoring disease activity and guiding treatment of progressive vitiligo.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of magnetic resonance imaging in the detection of triangular fibrocartilage complex injury through a meta-analysis. A comprehensive literature search was conducted before 1 April 2014. All studies comparing magnetic resonance imaging results with arthroscopy or open surgery findings were reviewed, and 25 studies that satisfied the eligibility criteria were included. Data were pooled to yield pooled sensitivity and specificity, which were respectively 0.83 and 0.82. In detection of central and peripheral tears, magnetic resonance imaging had respectively a pooled sensitivity of 0.90 and 0.88 and a pooled specificity of 0.97 and 0.97. Six high-quality studies using Ringler's recommended magnetic resonance imaging parameters were selected for analysis to determine whether optimal imaging protocols yielded better results. The pooled sensitivity and specificity of these six studies were 0.92 and 0.82, respectively. The overall accuracy of magnetic resonance imaging was acceptable. For peripheral tears, the pooled data showed a relatively high accuracy. Magnetic resonance imaging with appropriate parameters are an ideal method for diagnosing different types of triangular fibrocartilage complex tears.

Abstract
We investigated the therapeutic effect of Xin Mai Jia (XMJ) on atherosclerosis (AS) in rats. Rat models of AS were established by peritoneally injecting vitamin D, feeding a high-fat diet, and inducing balloon injuries in rats. The stomachs of the rats were irrigated continuously for 10 weeks with XMJ. Blood lipid- and hemorheology-related indices of blood samples were detected. Pathological changes in the right common carotid arterial tissues were also determined. The protein expression levels of endothelial nitric oxide synthase, angio-tensin-1, and endothelin-1 were determined by western blotting. XMJ reduced cholesterol, trigylecride, and low-density lipoprotein levels as well as blood viscosity, sedimentation, and hematocrit. Furthermore, XMJ alleviated vascular endothelial injury and reduced/eliminated atherosclerotic plaques. In contrast, XMJ significantly increased the endothelium-dependent relaxing response of the AS rat models. The western blotting results showed that XMJ upregulated endothelial nitric oxide synthase but downregulated angiotensin-1 and endothelin-1. XMJ prevented the development of AS by regulating blood lipid levels, hemorheology, and vascular function.

Abstract
Polyethylenimine (PEI) is the polymer most commonly used for transferring plasmids into eukaryotes, but its gene-transfer efficiency is lower compared to viral vectors. Receptors targeting PEI combined with ligands can enhance efficiency of gene transfer into the corresponding receptor-positive cells. Using the double-receptor-mediated pathway of viral infection, in this study we synthesized a novel non-viral vector based on PEI combined with two peptides recognizing FGF receptors (peptide YC25) and integrins (peptide CP9) on the cell surface. The dual targeting vector showed a physicochemical character similar to that of PEI, such as pDNA formation, particle size, zeta potential and lower toxicity. In vitro gene transfer showed that the dual-receptor targeted vector (YC25-PEI-CP9) exhibited a markedly higher transgene efficiency in cell lines with positive expression of FGF receptors and integrins, compared with single-peptide-modified PEI or unmodified PEI. In the cells with only integrin-positive expression, YC25-PEI-CP9 mediated a higher transgene expression than PEI but lower than CP9-PEI. The corresponding free peptides could inhibit the transgene efficiency of the peptide-coupled PEI. In vivo gene transfer in tumor-bearing nude mice also demonstrated that the dual-targeting vectors showed a significantly enhanced transfection efficiency in tumors with positive expression of FGF receptors and integrins. The synthesized polymer YC25-PEI-CP9 has the prospect to act as a novel kind of non-viral vector in gene therapy.

Abstract
The effects of body mass (M) and temperature (T) on routine metabolic rate (m(R) ) were assessed in the largemouth bronze gudgeon Coreius guichenoti, from Three Gorges Reservoir, Yangtze River, China. The m(R) increased with increasing M by factors (b-value in the equation m(R) = aM(b) ) of 0·843, 0·800, 0·767, 0·788 and 0·822 at 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30° C, respectively. A significant interaction between M and T on m(R) was observed. The variation in the b-value at different T suggests that the b-values were not consistent with the universal allometric exponent 0·75. After controlling for M, the relationship between the normalized standard metabolic rate (m(S), mg O(2) kg(-1) h(-1)) and T was described by an exponential equation: m(S) = 9·89e((0·093T)) . The results indicate that the effects of M on m(R) depend on T. The increased water temperature induced by dam construction on the Yangtze River may cause a marked increase in energy demand by this species, with potential ecological consequences.
