Abstract
Nanoimprint lithography is gaining popularity as a cost-efficient way to reproduce nanostructures in large quantities. Recent advances in nanoimprinting lithography using high-index nanoparticles have demonstrated replication of photonic devices, but it is difficult to confer special properties on nanostructures beyond general metasurfaces. Here, we introduce a novel method for fabricating light-emitting metasurfaces using nanoimprinting lithography. By utilizing quantum dots embedded in resin, we successfully imprint dielectric metasurfaces that function simultaneously as both emitters and resonators. This approach to incorporating quantum dots into metasurfaces demonstrates an improvement in photoluminescence characteristics compared to the situation where quantum dots and metasurfaces are independently incorporated. Design of the metasurface is specifically tailored to support photonic modes within the emission band of quantum dots with a large enhancement of photoluminescence. This study indicates that nanoimprinting lithography has the capability to construct nanostructures using functionalized nanoparticles and could be used in various fields of nanophotonic applications.

Abstract
Reconfigurable optical devices hold great promise for advancing high-density optical interconnects, photonic switching, and memory applications. While many optical modulators based on active materials have been demonstrated, it is challenging to achieve a high modulation depth with a low operation voltage in the near-infrared (NIR) range, which is a highly sought-after wavelength window for free-space communication and imaging applications. Here, electrically switchable Tamm plasmon coupled with poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) is introduced. The device allows for a high modulation depth across the entire NIR range by fully absorbing incident light even under epsilon near zero conditions. Optical modulation exceeding 88% is achieved using a CMOS-compatible voltage of ±1 V. This modulation is facilitated by precise electrical control of the charge carrier density through an electrochemical doping/dedoping process. Additionally, the potential applications of the device are extended for a non-volatile multi-memory state optical device, capable of rewritable optical memory storage and exhibiting long-term potentiation/depression properties with neuromorphic behavior.

Abstract
AIM The aim of this study was to identify preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings that can predict the shunt responsiveness in idiopathic normal-pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) patients and to investigate postoperative outcome and complications. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 192 patients with iNPH who underwent shunt at our hospital between 2000 and 2021 were included to investigate complications. Of these, after exclusion, 127 (1-month postoperative follow-up) and 77 (1-year postoperative follow-up) patients were evaluated. The preoperative MRI features (the presence of tightness of the high-convexity subarachnoid space, Sylvian fissure enlargement, Evans' index, and callosal angle) of the shunt-response and nonresponse groups were compared, and a systematic review was conducted to evaluate whether preoperative MRI findings could predict shunt response. RESULTS Postoperative complications within one month after surgery were observed in 6.8% (13/192), and the most common complication was hemorrhage. Changes in corpus callosum were observed in 4.2% (8/192). The shunt-response rates were 83.5% (106/127) in the 1-month follow-up group and 70.1% (54/77) in 1-year follow-up group. In the logistic regression analysis, only Evans' index measuring >0.4 had a significant negative relationship with shunt response at 1-month follow-up; however, no significant relationship was observed at 1-year follow-up. According to our systematic review, it is still controversial whether preoperative MRI findings could predict shunt response. CONCLUSION Evans' index measure of >0.4 had a significant relationship with the shunt response in the 1-month follow-up group. In systematic reviews, there is ongoing debate about whether preoperative MRI findings can accurately predict responses to shunt surgery. Postoperative corpus callosal change was observed in 4.2% of iNPH patients.

Abstract
Introduction Prior to pregnancy, hormonal changes lead to cellular adaptations in the endometrium allowing for embryo implantation. Critical for successful pregnancy establishment, innate immune cells constitute a significant proportion of uterine cells prior to arrival of the embryo and throughout the first trimester in humans and animal models. Abnormal uterine immune cell function during implantation is believed to play a role in multiple adverse pregnancy outcomes. Current work in humans has focused on uterine immune cells present after pregnancy establishment, and limited in vitro models exist to explore unique functions of these cells. Methods With single-cell RNA-sequencing (scRNAseq), we comprehensively compared the human uterine immune landscape of the endometrium during the window of implantation and the decidua during the first trimester of pregnancy. Results We uncovered global and cell-type-specific gene signatures for each timepoint. Immune cells in the endometrium prior to implantation expressed genes associated with immune metabolism, division, and activation. In contrast, we observed widespread interferon signaling during the first trimester of pregnancy. We also provide evidence of specific inflammatory pathways enriched in pre- and post-implantation macrophages and natural killer (NK) cells in the uterine lining. Using our novel implantation-on-a-chip (IOC) to model human implantation ex vivo, we demonstrate for the first time that uterine macrophages strongly promote invasion of extravillous trophoblasts (EVTs), a process essential for pregnancy establishment. Pre- and post-implantation uterine macrophages promoted EVT invasion to a similar degree as pre- and post-implantation NK cells on the IOC. Conclusions This work provides a foundation for further investigation of the individual roles of uterine immune cell subtypes present prior to embryo implantation and during early pregnancy, which will be critical for our understanding of pregnancy complications associated with abnormal trophoblast invasion and placentation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Menopause, a dramatical estrogen-deficient condition, is considered the most significant milestone in women's health. PURPOSE To investigate the metabolite changes attributed to estrogen deficiency using random forest (RF)-based machine learning (ML) modeling strategy in ovariectomized (OVX) mice as well as determine the clinical relevance of selected metabolites in older women. METHODS AND RESULTS Untargeted and targeted metabolomic analyses revealed that metabolites related to TCA cycle, sphingolipids, phospholipids, fatty acids, and amino acids, were significantly changed in the plasma and/or muscle of OVX mice. Subsequent ML classifiers based on RF algorithm selected alpha-ketoglutarate (AKG), arginine, carnosine, ceramide C24, phosphatidylcholine (PC) aa C36:6, and PC ae C42:3 in plasma as well as PC aa 34:1, PC aa C34:3, PC aa C36:5, PC aa C32:1, PC aa C36:2, and sphingosine in muscle as top featured metabolites that differentiate the OVX mice from the sham-operated group. When circulating levels of AKG, arginine, and carnosine, which showed the most significant changes in OVX mice blood, were measured in postmenopausal women, higher plasma AKG levels were associated with lower bone mass, weak grip strength, poor physical performance, and increased frailty risk. CONCLUSIONS Metabolomics- and ML-based methods identified the key metabolites of blood and muscle that were significantly changed after ovariectomy in mice, and the clinical implication of several metabolites was investigated by looking at their correlation with body composition and frailty-related parameters in postmenopausal women. These findings provide crucial context for understanding the diverse physiological alterations caused by estrogen deficiency in women.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study explored factors related to Korean adults' smoking patterns and also the reasons for using new types of tobacco products. STUDY DESIGN Cross-sectional survey. METHODS Data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2013 to 2021 were used. The prevalence of the use of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) or heated tobacco products (HTPs) alone or in combination with conventional cigarettes (CC) and the reasons for using new tobacco products are presented. Factors associated with using new types of tobacco products alone or in combination with CC compared to exclusive CC users were identified using multinomial logistic regression analysis. RESULTS The prevalence of current smoking was 25.54% in 2013 and 23.05% in 2021, with no significant change. The prevalence of CC decreased from 23.39% in 2013 to 15.77% in 2021. The prevalence of new tobacco use in combination with CC did not show a definite trend. The prevalence of exclusive use of new tobacco was <1% until 2018 and has rapidly increased thereafter. Of the HTPs users, 46.68% responded with 'no cigarette smell' as the main reason for HTPs use, followed by 'It seems less harmful than cigarette' (19.19%), and 'It seems to be helpful for quitting smoking' (15.04%). Of the e-cigarette users, 45.19% responded 'It seems to be helpful for quitting smoking' as the main reason for e-cigarette use, followed by 'It is less harmful than cigarettes' (19.98%). Compared to CC users, new tobacco users were younger, had a higher household income or education, and used more nutritional supplements. CONCLUSION Regulations for newer tobacco products are more lenient than for traditional cigarettes, leading to misunderstandings, especially among women and young people. To increase awareness of the risks of these products, specific policies such as disclosure of ingredients, ban on online sales, and increase in consumption tax, are needed.

Abstract
AIM To verify the diagnostic performance of the loss of nigrosome-1 on susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) with compressed sensing-sensitivity encoding (CS-SENSE) and neuromelanin on neuromelanin-sensitive (NM) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (PD) and atypical Parkinsonism. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 195 patients who underwent MRI between October 2019 and February 2020, including SWI, with or without CS-SENSE, and NM-MRI, were reviewed retrospectively. Two neuroradiologists assessed the loss of nigrosome-1 on SWI and neuromelanin on the NM-MRI. The result of N-3-fluoropropyl-2-beta-carbomethoxy-3-beta-(4-iodophenyl) nortropane positron-emission tomography (PET) was set as the reference standard. RESULTS When CS-SENSE was applied for nigrosome-1 imaging on SWI, the non-diagnostic scan rate was lowered significantly from 19.3% (17/88) to 5.6% (6/107; p=0.004). Diagnosis of PD and atypical Parkinsonism based on the loss of nigrosome-1 on SWI and based on NM-MRI showed good diagnostic value (area under the curve [AUC] 0.821, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.755-0.875: AUC 0.832, 95% CI = 0.771-0.882, respectively) with a substantial inter-reader agreement (κ = 0.791 and 0.681, respectively). Combined SWI and neuromelanin had a similar discriminatory ability (AUC 0.830, 95% CI = 0.770-0.880). Similarly, the diagnosis of PD was excellent. CONCLUSIONS CS-SENSE may add value to the diagnostic capability of nigrosome-1 on SWI to reduce the nondiagnostic scan rates. Furthermore, loss of nigrosome-1 on SWI or volume loss of neuromelanin on NM-MRI may be helpful for diagnosing PD.

Abstract
Fano resonance, known for its unique asymmetric line shape, has gained significant attention in photonics, particularly in sensing applications. However, it remains difficult to achieve controllable Fano parameters with a simple geometric structure. Here, a novel approach of using a thin-film optical Fano resonator with a porous layer to generate entire spectral shapes from quasi-Lorentzian to Lorentzian to Fano is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The glancing angle deposition technique is utilized to create a polarization-dependent Fano resonator. By altering the linear polarization between s- and p-polarization, a switchable Fano device between quasi-Lorentz state and negative Fano state is demonstrated. This change in spectral shape is advantageous for detecting materials with a low-refractive index. A bio-particle sensing experiment is conducted that demonstrates an enhanced signal-to-noise ratio and prediction accuracy. Finally, the challenge of optimizing the film-based Fano resonator due to intricate interplay among numerous parameters, including layer thicknesses, porosity, and materials selection, is addressed. The inverse design tool is developed based on a multilayer perceptron model that allows fast computation for all ranges of Fano parameters. The method provides improved accuracy of the mean validation factor (MVF = 0.07, q-q') compared to the conventional exhaustive enumeration method (MVF = 0.37).

Abstract
Denosumab is an effective antiresorptive drug commonly prescribed for the treatment of osteoporosis. However, some patients do not respond well to denosumab treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the factors underlying treatment nonresponses to denosumab in elderly patients following hip fracture. This retrospective study included 130 patients treated with denosumab after osteoporotic hip fracture between March 2017 and March 2020. The patients were categorized as denosumab nonresponders if they had a T-score <-3 that persisted between dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry scans, a >3% decrease in bone mineral density (BMD), or an incident fracture on denosumab therapy. We examined the baseline characteristics associated with blunted BMD responses and compared the groups following denosumab treatment for 12 months. Of 130 patients with baseline data, 105 patients (80.8%) were considered responders. No difference in baseline vitamin D, calcium, BMI, age, gender, prior fracture history, or bisphosphonate use was observed between responders and nonresponders. A longer interval between denosumab injections was associated with suboptimal BMD response at both spine and total hip (p<0.001 and p=0.04, respectively). The overall L-BMD and H-BMD were significantly increased compared with pretreatment levels after denosumab treatment (5.7% and 2.5%, respectively). This study revealed that nonresponse was not strongly associated with certain baseline variables and it appears that the reponders and nonresponders were reasonably comparable in this study population. The results of our study highlight the importance of timely denosumab administration when using this drug for osteoporosis management. Physicians should keep these results in mind in clinical practice so that they can improve utilization of 6-month denosumab.

Abstract
Two-dimensional (2D) materials are extensively used in almost all scientific research areas, from fundamental research to applications. Initially, 2D materials were integrated with conventional non-2D materials having well-established manufacturing methods. Recently, the concept of constructing photonic devices exclusively from 2D materials has emerged. Various devices developed to date have been demonstrated based on monolithic or hetero 2D materials. In this review, photonic devices that solely consist of 2D materials are introduced, including photonic waveguides, lenses, and optical cavities. Exploring photonic devices that are made entirely of 2D materials could open interesting prospects as they enable the thinnest devices possible because of their extraordinarily high refractive index. In addition, unique characteristics of 2D materials, such as high optical anisotropy and spin orbit coupling, might provide intriguing applications.

Abstract
AIM To evaluate the detection rate of magnetic resonance (MR) myelography without intrathecal gadolinium for cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage in patients with newly diagnosed spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) and to validate a published scoring system for predicting CSF leakage. MATERIALS AND METHODS This retrospective, observational, single-institution study included patients with newly diagnosed SIH between March 2015 and April 2021. Patients were included if they (a) had newly diagnosed SIH and (b) underwent initial brain MR imaging and preprocedural MR myelography with two- and three-dimensional turbo spin-echo sequences. Patients who underwent spine surgery or procedures including epidural injection and acupuncture were excluded. The detection rate was defined as the proportion of patients with a true-positive MR myelography result among all patients with confirmed CSF leakage. The interobserver agreement for the MR myelography results between two radiologists was analysed using weighted kappa statistics. RESULTS A total of 136 patients (mean age, 48 years; 70 women) with suspected SIH were included. Of these patients, 120 (88%, 120/136) were confirmed to have CSF leakage. Of the patients with confirmed CSF leakage, 90 (75%, 90/120) had epidural fluid collection. The detection rate of MR myelography for CSF leakage was 88% (105/120). The interobserver agreement between the two readers for detecting CSF leakage (κ = 0.76) or epidural fluid collection (κ = 0.76) on MR myelography was high. Among 24 patients with normal brain MR imaging results, 16 had CSF leakage (67%, 16/24). CONCLUSIONS Non-invasive MR myelography without intrathecal gadolinium should be considered to detect CSF leakage in patients with suspected SIH.

Abstract
Background
Multiple stenting in the chronic total occlusion (CTO) lesions is frequently required, however associated with poorer clinical outcomes. It is demonstrated that intravascular ultrasound (IVUS)-guided CTO-percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is related to a lower risk of adverse clinical events.
Purpose
We aimed to evaluate the clinical impact of stent optimization under IVUS guidance for multiple stenting, comparing with single stenting.
Methods
A total of 916 patients receiving drug-eluting stent (DES) under IVUS guidance were classified into two groups (stent optimization and non-optimization) according to optimization criteria (an absolute expansion criteria; minimal stent area ≥4.9 mm2 and a relative expansion criteria; 80% of mean reference lumen area). Of total population, 314 patients (34.3%) were treated with single stent and 575 patients (62.7%) were treated with multiple stents, respectively. Ischemic-driven target-lesion revascularization (TLR)/reocclusion was evaluated.
Results
Under IVUS guidance, 316 patients (34.5%) met IVUS criteria for stent optimization The achieving rates were 53% in the single stent group and 24% in the multiple stents group, respectively, (p<0.001). During a median of 4.7 years, the multiple stent group showed a significantly higher TLR/reocclusion rate, compared with the single stent group (12.8% vs. 5.2%, adjusted hazard ratio [HR] 2.51, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.20–5.25, p=0.01). (Figure 1) Meeting both the absolute and relative expansion criteria was associated with a significantly low rate of TLR/reocclusion rate (12.5% vs. 5.2%, adjusted HR 0.34, 95% CI: 0.15–0.79, p=0.01). Under IVUS-guidance, there was no significant difference between multiple stenting and single stenting in case of achieving the optimization criteria (6.5% vs. 4.2%, p=0.11), whereas non-optimization group in the patients with multiple stenting showed a significantly higher rate of TLR/reocclusion, compared with IVUS-optimization group in the patients with single stenting (14.5% vs. 4.2%, p=0.002). Conclusions
In CTO-PCI with DES, multiple stenting significantly increased the risk of TLR/reocclusion. IVUS-guided optimization for multiple stenting showed a comparable long-term risk of TLR/reocclusion to single stenting with IVUS optimization. Hence, achieving IVUS expansion criteria may help to reduce the risk of TLR/reocclusion in CTO-PCI with multiple DES overlapping.

Abstract
Brugada syndrome (BrS) is an arrhythmogenic disorder that has been linked to mutations in SCN5A, the gene encoding for the pore-forming α-subunit of the cardiac Na+ channel. Recently, novel SCN5A missense mutations (A385T and R504T) were identified in a BrS patient. Since the mutations are in the loop connecting transmembrane segments 5 and 6 in domain 1 (S5-S6 in DI) and segments 6 and 1 between domain 1 and 2 (DI-DII linker), it can lead to dysfunctional property of the Na+ channel. Here we aimed to characterize the electrophysiological properties of A385T and R504T. The wild-type (WT) and mutant SCN5A were transiently transfected in HEK293 cells, and the Na+ channel was analyzed using the whole-cell patch-clamp technique. WT, A385T, R504T, and double mutant (A385T/R504T) showed no significant differences in the current density and the voltage-dependent activation. Unexpectedly, a rightward shift of the voltage-dependent inactivation was identified in the three groups of mutation. Besides, the recovery from inactivation of double mutant was faster than that of WT. These results suggest that, contrary to the expected mechanism of BrS, the mutations cause a gain-of-function of NaV1.5. However, the current densities of R504T and double mutant transfected with β-subunit SCN1B were significantly suppressed but A385T was not different from WT. The voltage dependent activation and inactivation of all mutants were not significantly different from WT. The recovery from inactivation of all mutants were slower than that of WT. These results suggest that R504T mutation of α-subunit SCN5A interacting with β-subunit SCN1B is responsible to pathophysiological function of novel BrS.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) can occur in association with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). It is not easy to differentiate MIS-C from severe COVID-19 or Kawasaki disease based on symptoms. The aim of this study was to describe the clinical and laboratory characteristics of MIS-C. PATIENTS AND METHODS We searched PubMed/Medline for case series and reports of MIS-C published until June 20, 2020. From a total of nine articles involving 45 cases, various clinical and laboratory data were extracted. Each target case was evaluated by using different diagnostic criteria. RESULTS The average age at onset of MIS-C was 8.6 years. In 80% of cases, the age of patients ranged from 5 to 15 years. Fever (100%) and shock (82%) were the most common presenting symptoms. Sixty percent of cases met the diagnostic criteria for typical or atypical Kawasaki disease. Biomarkers indicative of inflammation, coagulopathy, or cardiac injury were characteristically elevated as follows: ferritin (mean: 1,061 ng/mL), CRP (217 mg/L), ESR (69 mm/hr), IL-6 (214.8 pg/mL), TNFα (63.4 pg/mL), D-dimer (3,220 ng/mL), PT (15.5 s), troponin I (1,006 ng/L), and BNP (12,150 pg/mL). Intravenous immunoglobulin was administered in all target cases, and inotropic agents were commonly used as well. No case of death was observed. CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrated that MIS-C is a serious condition that presents with fever, rash, as well as cardiovascular and gastrointestinal symptoms. Although it is challenging to differentiate MIS-C from Kawasaki disease or severe COVID-19, initiation of appropriate treatments through early diagnosis is warranted.

Abstract
Spin defects in hexagonal boron nitride, and specifically the negatively charged boron vacancy (VB - ) centers, are emerging candidates for quantum sensing. However, the VB - defects suffer from low quantum efficiency and, as a result, exhibit weak photoluminescence. In this work, a scalable approach is demonstrated to dramatically enhance the VB - emission by coupling to a plasmonic gap cavity. The plasmonic cavity is composed of a flat gold surface and a silver cube, with few-layer hBN flakes positioned in between. Employing these plasmonic cavities, two orders of magnitude are extracted in photoluminescence enhancement associated with a corresponding twofold enhancement in optically detected magnetic resonance contrast. The work will be pivotal to progress in quantum sensing employing 2D materials, and in realization of nanophotonic devices with spin defects in hexagonal boron nitride.

Abstract
Integration of solid-state quantum emitters into nanophotonic circuits is a critical step towards fully on-chip quantum photonic-based technologies. Among potential materials platforms, quantum emitters in hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) have emerged as a viable candidate over the last years. While the fundamental physical properties have been intensively studied, only a few works have focused on the emitter integration into photonic resonators. Yet, for a potential quantum photonic material platform, the integration with nanophotonic cavities is an important cornerstone, as it enables the deliberate tuning of the spontaneous emission and the improved readout of distinct transitions for a quantum emitter. In this work, the resonant tuning of a monolithic cavity integrated hBN quantum emitter is demonstrated through gas condensation at cryogenic temperature. In resonance, an emission enhancement and lifetime reduction are observed, with an estimate for the Purcell factor of ≈15.

Abstract
The emergence of interlayer excitons (IEs) from atomic layered transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) heterostructures has drawn tremendous attention due to their unique and exotic optoelectronic properties. Coupling the IEs into optical cavities provides distinctive electromagnetic environments which plays an important role in controlling multiple optical processes such as optical nonlinear generation or photoluminescence enhancement. Here, the integration of IEs in TMDCs into plasmonic nanocavities based on a nanocube on a metallic mirror is reported. Spectroscopic studies reveal an order of magnitude enhancement of the IE at room temperature and a 5-time enhancement in fluorescence at cryogenic temperatures. Cavity modeling reveals that the enhancement of the emission is attributed to both increased excitation efficiency and Purcell effect from the cavity. The results show a novel method to control the excitonic processes in TMDC heterostructures to build high performance photonics and optoelectronics devices.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Foreign bodies in the ear, nose and throat commonly necessitate emergency department visits. METHOD This retrospective study was conducted on emergency department visits from January 2010 to December 2019 to determine characteristics and clinical prognoses of ENT patients. Patients were divided into three groups according to foreign-body entry route; patient characteristics and clinical findings were compared between groups. RESULTS Of 676 142 emergency department visits, 10 454 were because of ENT-related foreign bodies. The mean (± standard deviation) age of subjects was 24.0 (± 23.4) years, and 5176 patients were male (49.5 per cent). The most common entry route was the mouth (74.5 per cent). Most patients (97.1 per cent) were discharged after emergency treatment. Intensive care and in-hospital mortality occurred only in the mouth group. CONCLUSION Clinical findings differ depending on foreign-body entry route. After emergency treatment, most patients were discharged; some cases presented serious complications.

Abstract
ABSTRACT In this study, Bacillus cereus was isolated from soft soybean curds, and a dynamic model was developed to describe the kinetic behavior of these isolates during transfer and storage. B. cereus isolates recovered from soft soybean curds were inoculated into soft soybean curd, and the levels were determined during storage at 10 to 30°C. The B. cereus counts were fitted to the Baranyi model to calculate maximum growth rate (μmax) and lag-phase duration (LPD). These kinetic parameters were then analyzed with a polynomial equation to evaluate the effects of temperature on the kinetic parameters. The developed model was validated with observed values, and the differences between predicted and observed values were determined by calculating the root mean square error (RMSE). A dynamic model was then developed with a combination of primary and secondary models to describe B. cereus growth under changing temperature conditions. B. cereus was detected in two soft soybean curd samples (5.1%) at 0.7 log CFU/g. The μmax was -0.04 to 0.47 log CFU/g/h, and the ln(LPD) was 3.94 to 0.04 h, depending on the storage temperature. The model performance was appropriate with a 0.216 RMSE and accurately described the kinetic behavior of B. cereus in soft soybean curd samples. These results suggest that B. cereus can contaminate soft soybean curds and that the models developed with the B. cereus isolates are useful for describing the kinetic behavior of B. cereus in soft soybean curd. Abstract
Color centers in hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) are becoming an increasingly important building block for quantum photonic applications. Herein, we demonstrate the efficient coupling of recently discovered spin defects in hBN to purposely designed bullseye cavities. We show that boron vacancy spin defects couple to the monolithic hBN cavity system and exhibit a 6.5-fold enhancement. In addition, by comparative finite-difference time-domain modeling, we shed light on the emission dipole orientation, which has not been experimentally demonstrated at this point. Beyond that, the coupled spin system exhibits an enhanced contrast in optically detected magnetic resonance readout and improved signal-to-noise ratio. Thus, our experimental results, supported by simulations, constitute a first step toward integration of hBN spin defects with photonic resonators for a scalable spin-photon interface.

Abstract
We investigated the anti-obesity effect and the underlying mechanisms of action of human-derived Limosilactobacillus fermentum MG4231, MG4244, and their combination, in high-fat diet-induced obese mice. Administration of the Limosilactobacillus strains decreased body weight gain, liver and adipose tissue weight, and glucose tolerance. Serum levels of total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol, and leptin were reduced, while adiponectin increased. The administration of Limosilactobacillus strains improved the histopathological features of liver tissue, such as hepatic atrophy and inflammatory penetration, and significantly reduced the content of triglyceride in the liver. Limosilactobacillus administration discovered a significant reduction in the size of the adipocytes in the epididymal tissue. Limosilactobacillus treatment significantly reduced the expression of important regulators in lipid metabolism, including peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ, CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein α, fatty acid synthase (FAS), adipocyte-protein 2, and lipoprotein lipase in the epididymal tissue. Also, Limosilactobacillus lowered sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1-c and FAS in the liver tissue. Such changes in the expression of these regulators in both liver and epididymis tissue were caused by Limosilactobacillus upregulating phosphorylation of AMP-activated protein kinase and acetyl-CoA carboxylase. Therefore, we suggest that the use of the combination of L. fermentum MG4231 and MG4244, as probiotics could effectively inhibit adipogenesis and lipogenesis from preventing obesity.

Abstract
AimsRunning is the oldest form of exercise in human history and the most popular exercise in the world.1 While running can improve physical fitness and reduce chronic health problems such as obesity and cardiovascular disease, it is also associated with injuries in lower extremities.2 However, because there was no consensus definition of running-related injury, the prevalence and incidence of running-related injuries had been reported to vary between 19% and 92%.3 Moreover, epidemiology of running-related injuries in Asian populations has been rarely investigated. Therefore, this study was first to use the consensus definition of running-related injuries published in 20153 and investigated the epidemiology of running-related injuries in the Korean population.MethodsIn cross-sectional design, an online survey was circulated among various running communities in Korea. The questionnaire contained information on presence and location of pain attributed to running, demographic characteristics, weekly running mileage, training intensity, running pace, type of shoes, foot strike, reason for running, and exercise experience prior to running.ResultsAmong 1046 runners (male=624, female 422) who responded, 94.7% experienced some kind of pain while running, but only 37% were categorized to have running-related injuries. The most common site of injury was the knee followed by ankle. Exercise experience prior to running (OR 1.57 95% CI 1.13–2.21), setting of specific running goals (OR 1.57 95% CI 1.08–2.27), and mileage increases from 20–30 km to 30–40 km (OR 1.66 95% CI 1.06–2.63) were associated with significant increases in running-related injuries.ConclusionIn order to avoid running-related injuries, runners should be careful in increasing weekly mileage. Moreover, runners with previous exercise experience may need to approach running more cautiously. Abstract
ABSTRACT An investigation of the pathogenic characteristics of isolates of Vibrio parahaemolyticus was conducted by identifying the pathogenic tdh gene and then performing adherence and cytotoxicity assays. Genome sequences of the seafood isolates were analyzed using the Illumina HiSeq 2500 platform. The isolated strains were then mapped by comparing the genomes to the reference genome, and variations in the nucleotide sequences and amino acids were identified with the CLC Genomics Workbench program. The tdh gene was identified in four isolates of V. parahaemolyticus, of which three-SMFM201809-CPC7-3, SMFM201809-CF8-2, and SMFM201809-CF8-3-showed high cytotoxicity and differences in cell adhesion. These isolates were selected to identify virulence factors and genomic variations. All three isolates had the same virulence factors, such as adherence, secretion system, and toxin. In addition, amino acid variants were identified in the regions of type IV pilus, T3SS1 and T3SS1 secreted effectors, and thermolabile hemolysin. These results indicate that variations in amino acids found in regions related to adherence and cytotoxicity result in differences in adhesion efficiency and cytotoxicity; therefore, the isolates with these variations may cause more serious foodborne illness compared with other strains. Abstract
BACKGROUND Disproportionately enlarged subarachnoid space hydrocephalus is a specific radiologic marker for idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus. However, controversy exists regarding the prognostic utility of disproportionately enlarged subarachnoid space hydrocephalus. PURPOSE Our aim was to evaluate the prevalence of disproportionately enlarged subarachnoid space hydrocephalus in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus and its predictive utility regarding prognosis in patients treated with ventriculoperitoneal shunt surgery. DATA SOURCES We used MEDLINE and EMBASE databases. STUDY SELECTION We searched for studies that reported the prevalence or the diagnostic performance of disproportionately enlarged subarachnoid space hydrocephalus in predicting treatment response. DATA ANALYSIS The pooled prevalence of disproportionately enlarged subarachnoid space hydrocephalus was obtained. Pooled sensitivity, specificity, and area under the curve of disproportionately enlarged subarachnoid space hydrocephalus to predict treatment response were obtained. Subgroup and sensitivity analyses were performed to explain heterogeneity among the studies. DATA SYNTHESIS Ten articles with 812 patients were included. The pooled prevalence of disproportionately enlarged subarachnoid space hydrocephalus in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus was 44% (95% CI, 34%-54%). The pooled prevalence of disproportionately enlarged subarachnoid space hydrocephalus was higher in the studies using the second edition of the Japanese Guidelines for Management of Idiopathic Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus compared with the studies using the international guidelines without statistical significance (52% versus 43%, P = .38). The pooled sensitivity and specificity of disproportionately enlarged subarachnoid space hydrocephalus for prediction of treatment response were 59% (95% CI, 38%-77%) and 66% (95% CI, 57%-74%), respectively, with an area under the curve of 0.67 (95% CI, 0.63-0.71). LIMITATIONS The lack of an established method for assessing disproportionately enlarged subarachnoid space hydrocephalus using brain MR imaging served as an important cause of the heterogeneity. CONCLUSIONS Our meta-analysis demonstrated a relatively low prevalence of disproportionately enlarged subarachnoid space hydrocephalus in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus and a poor diagnostic performance for treatment response.

Abstract
Phonon-polaritons (PhPs) arise from the strong coupling of photons to optical phonons. They offer light confinement and harnessing below the diffraction limit for applications including sensing, imaging, superlensing, and photonics-based communications. However, structures consisting of both suspended and supported hyperbolic materials on periodic dielectric substrates are yet to be explored. Here we investigate phonon-polaritonic crystals (PPCs) that incorporate hyperbolic hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) to a silicon-based photonic crystal. By using the near-field excitation in scattering-type scanning near-field optical microscopy (s-SNOM), we resolved two types of repetitive local field distribution patterns resembling the Archimedean-like tiling on hBN-based PPCs, i.e., dipolar-like field distributions and highly dispersive PhP interference patterns. We demonstrate the tunability of PPC band structures by varying the thickness of hyperbolic materials, supported by numerical simulations. Lastly, we conducted scattering-type nanoIR spectroscopy to confirm the interaction of hBN with photonic crystals. The introduced PPCs will provide the base for fabricating essential subdiffraction components of advanced optical systems in the mid-IR range.

Abstract
Advancement of diamond based photonic circuitry requires robust fabrication protocols of key components - including diamond resonators and cavities. Here, we present 1D (nanobeam) photonic crystal cavities generated from single crystal diamond membranes utilising a metallic tungsten layer as a restraining, conductive and removable hard mask. The use of tungsten instead of a more conventional silicon oxide layer enables good repeatability and reliability of the fabrication procedures. The process yields high quality diamond cavities with quality factors (Q-factors) approaching 1 × 104. Finally, we show that the cavities can be picked up and transferred onto a trenched substrate to realise fully suspended diamond cavities. Our fabrication process demonstrates the capability of diamond membranes as modular components for broader diamond based quantum photonic circuitry.

Abstract
Suppressor of cytokine signaling (SOCS) proteins are primarily feedback inhibitors of cytokine signaling. The two conserved domains of SOCS proteins have distinct functions. Src homology 2 (SH2) domain inhibits cytokine receptor, while SOCS box acts as an E3 ubiquitin ligase. SOCS2, a cytokine signaling suppressor, has been primarily implicated in regulating inflammatory conditions in neuronal diseases. However, SOCS proteins have been suggested to play diverse roles in healthy and diseased nervous system including neurodegenerative disorders. In this study, SOCS2 was found to be upregulated in Huntington's disease and was substantially induced in extended polyglutamine (polyQ)-expressing striatal cells. The induced level was augmented under aging conditions. In extended polyQ-expressing cells, downregulated SOCS2 improved autophagic dysfunction rather than altered inflammatory conditions. Overall, we suggest that SOCS2 involves in regulating autophagy by functioning as an E3 ligase in extended polyQ conditions, and consequently regulates cell damage and cell death type.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to conduct QMRA (quantitative microbial risk assessment) of Clostridium perfringens through soy sauce consumption. Four hundred and ninety soy sauce samples from markets were analyzed to detect C. perfringens. Temperature and time were also measured during transportation and display of soy sauce. A primary model was developed by fitting the Weibull model to the C. perfringens cell counts in soy sauce at 7-35°C, and δ (the time needed to decrease 1 log CFU/ml) and ρ (curve shape) were calculated. The parameters were analyzed, using the Exponential model (secondary model) as a function of temperature. The consumption amount and percentage of soy sauce were surveyed, and a dose-response model was searched. Using all collected data, a simulation model was prepared in the @RISK program to estimate the probability of C. perfringens foodborne illness by soy sauce consumption. C. perfringens were negative in 490 samples. Thus, the initial contamination level was estimated to be -2.9 log CFU/ml. The developed predictive models showed that C. perfringens cell counts decreased during transportation and display. The average consumption amounts, and the percentage of soy sauce were 7.81 ml and 81.2%, respectively. The simulation showed that the probability of C. perfringens foodborne illness by consumption of soy sauce was 1.7 × 10-16 per person per day. Therefore, the risk of C. perfringens by consumption of soy sauce is low in Korea.

Abstract
In tissue engineering, excessively generated reactive oxygen species (ROS) during biomaterial implantation or cell transplantation is a one of major causes of diminishing therapeutic effects. In this study, we prepared biomaterial surfaces coated with antioxidant epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and metal ions, and evaluated their anti-oxidative and ROS scavenging properties. We revealed that EGCG-coating on polycaprolactone (PCL) film surface increased hydrophilicity and anti-oxidative properties as a function of total phenol content (TPC) potentially due to the increase in phenolic -OH and π-electrons from structural maintenance and directly removed the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) by resonance-stabilization. Furthermore, EGCG-coated PCL film increased attachment, spreading area, and viability of human adipose-derived stem cells (hADSCs) against H2O2 treatment while stimulated the cellular signaling to reduce apoptotic gene and enhance anti-oxidative enzyme expression. Further, we applied EGCG coating on the surface of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) fibers. Spheroids incorporating EGCG-coated PLLA fibers were able to maintain their shape and showed improved viability and anti-oxidative activities in response to H2O2-induced oxidative stress than control spheroids. Therefore, metal-phenolic network (MPN) coating of EGCG is a suitable method to impart the anti-oxidative properties to biomaterials by evaluating the structural properties and biological effects.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial effects of fermented Maillard reaction products made by milk proteins (FMRPs) on Clostridium perfringens (C. perfringens), and to elucidate antimicrobial modes of FMRPs on the bacteria, using physiological and morphological analyses. METHODS Antimicrobial effects of FMRPs (whey protein plus galactose fermented by Lactobacillus rhamnosus [L. rhamnosus] 4B15 [Gal-4B15] or Lactobacillus gasseri 4M13 [Gal-4M13], and whey protein plus glucose fermented by L. rhamnosus 4B15 [Glc-4B15] or L. gasseri 4M13 [Glc-4M13]) on C. perfringens were tested by examining growth responses of the pathogen. Iron chelation activity analysis, propidium iodide uptake assay, and morphological analysis with field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) were conducted to elucidate the modes of antimicrobial activities of FMRPs. RESULTS When C. perfringens were exposed to the FMRPs, C. perfringens cell counts were decreased (p<0.05) by the all tested FMRPs; iron chelation activities by FMRPs, except for Glc-4M13. Propidium iodide uptake assay indicate that bacterial cellular damage increased in all FMRPs-treated C. perfringens, and it was observed by FE-SEM. CONCLUSION These results indicate that the FMRPs can destroy C. perfringens by iron chelation and cell membrane damage. Thus, it could be used in dairy products, and controlling intestinal C. perfringens.

Abstract
This study aimed at determining the genetic and virulence characteristics of the
Listeria monocytogenes from smoked ducks. L.
monocytogenes was isolated by plating, and the isolated colonies
were identified by PCR. All the obtained seven L. monocytogenes
isolates possessed the virulence genes (inlA,
inlB, plcB, and hlyA) and
a 385 bp actA amplicon. The L. monocytogenes
isolates (SMFM2018 SD 1-1, SMFM 2018 SD 4-1, SMFM 2018 SD 4-2, SMFM 2018 SD 5-2,
SMFM 2018 SD 5-3, SMFM 2018 SD 6-2, and SMFM 2018 SD 7-1) were inoculated in
tryptic soy broth (TSB) containing 0.6% yeast extract at 60°C,
followed by cell counting on tryptic soy agar (TSA) containing 0.6% yeast
extract at 0, 2, 5, 8, and 10 min. We identified five heat resistant isolates
compared to the standard strain (L. monocytogenes ATCC13932),
among which three exhibited the serotype 1/2b and D-values of 5.41, 6.48, and
6.71, respectively at 60°C. The optical densities of the cultures were
regulated to a 0.5 McFarland standard to assess resistance against nine
antibiotics after an incubation at 30°C for 24 h. All isolates were
penicillin G resistant, possessing the virulence genes (inlA,
inlB, plcB, and hlyA) and
the 385-bp actA amplicon, moreover, three isolates showed
clindamycin resistance. In conclusion, this study allowed us to characterize
L. monocytogenes isolates from smoked ducks, exhibiting
clindamycin and penicillin G resistance, along with the 385-bp
actA amplicon, representing higher invasion efficiency than
the 268-bp actA, and the higher heat resistance serotype
1/2b.

Abstract
Hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) is a layered dielectric material with a wide range of applications in optics and photonics. In this work, we demonstrate a fabrication method for few-layer hBN flakes with areas up to 5000µm2. We show that hBN in this form can be integrated with photonic microstructures: as an example, we use a circular Bragg grating (CBG). The layer quality of the exfoliated hBN flake on and off a CBG is confirmed by Raman spectroscopy and second-harmonic generation (SHG) microscopy. We show that the SHG signal is uniform across the hBN sample outside the CBG and is amplified in the center of the CBG.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to develop a method with improved sensitivity for Campylobacter jejuni detection in foods. Nitrogen-doped carbon nanodots (N-CNDs) were synthesized and added to an enrichment medium (Bolton broth) at a concentration of 10 mg/mL. A light-emitting diode (LED) at a wavelength of 425 nm was used to irradiate the N-CNDs-supplemented enrichment medium to induce an exothermic reaction for 1 h. Additionally, a monoclonal antibody specific to C. jejuni NCTC11168 was developed using hybridoma cells to aid detection. The C. jejuni detection capabilities of N-CNDs-supplemented enrichment medium and the conventional Bolton broth enrichment, were compared using duck samples. C. jejuni in the enrichment was detected with the monoclonal antibody based-indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ID-ELISA). The N-CNDs-supplemented enrichment medium showed a better C. jejuni detection capability than the conventional Bolton broth enrichment. Additionally, data from ID-ELISA showed excellent detection efficiency and a shortened detection time in the N-CNDs-supplemented enrichment medium after LED irradiation at 425 nm. These results indicate that 1-h LED irradiation at 425 nm to Bolton broth supplemented with the N-CNDs increased the detection efficiency and shortened the detection time with the monoclonal antibody for C. jejuni in food.

Abstract
Clostridium perfringens (CP) is a foodborne pathogen. The bacterium can also inhabit human gut without symptoms of foodborne illness. However, the clinical symptoms of long-term inhabitation have not been known yet. Therefore, the objective of this study was to elucidate the relationship between intestinal CP and other internal organs. Phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) and CP were orally injected into 5-week-old (YOUNG) and 12-month-old C57BL6/J (ADULT) mice. Gene expression levels related to inflammation (tumor necrosis factor-α [TNF-α], interleukin [IL]-1β, and IL-6) and oxidative stress (superoxide dismutase [SOD]1, SOD2, SOD3, glutathione reductase [GSR], glutathione peroxidase [GPx]3, and catalase [CAT]) responses were evaluated in the brain, small intestine, and liver. In addition, apoptosis-related (BCL2-associated X [BAX]1 and high-mobility group box-1 [HMGB1]) and brain disorder-related genes (CCAAT-enhancer-binding protein [C/EBP]-β, C/EBPδ, C/EBP homologous protein [CHOP], and amyloid precursor protein [APP]) as brain damage markers were examined. The protein expressions in the brain were also measured. Gene expression levels of inflammation and oxidative stress responses were higher (p < 0.05) in brains of CP-YOUNG and CP-ADULT mice, compared with PBS-YOUNG and PBS-ADULT, and the gene expression levels were higher (p < 0.05) in brains of CP-ADULT mice than CP-YOUNG mice. Apoptosis-related (BAX1 and HMGB1) and brain disorder-related genes (C/EBPβ, C/EBPδ, CHOP, and APP) were higher (p < 0.05) in brains of CP-challenged mice, compared with PBS-challenged mice. Even oxidative stress response (GPx and SOD2), cell damage-related (HMGB1), and β-amyloid proteins were higher (p < 0.05) in brains of CP- than in PBS-challenged mice. C/EBP protein was higher (p < 0.05) in CP-YOUNG, compared with PBS-YOUNG mice. However, these clinical symptoms were not observed in small intestine and liver. These results indicate that although asymptomatic intestinal CP do not cause foodborne illness, their inhabitation may cause brain inflammation, oxidative stress, apoptosis, and cell damage, which may induce disorders, especially for the aged group.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Limited evidence has suggested that a deep learning automatic brain segmentation and classification method, based on T1-weighted brain MR images, can predict Alzheimer disease. Our aim was to develop and validate a deep learning-based automatic brain segmentation and classification algorithm for the diagnosis of Alzheimer disease using 3D T1-weighted brain MR images. MATERIALS AND METHODS A deep learning-based algorithm was developed using a dataset of T1-weighted brain MR images in consecutive patients with Alzheimer disease and mild cognitive impairment. We developed a 2-step algorithm using a convolutional neural network to perform brain parcellation followed by 3 classifier techniques including XGBoost for disease prediction. All classification experiments were performed using 5-fold cross-validation. The diagnostic performance of the XGBoost method was compared with logistic regression and a linear Support Vector Machine by calculating their areas under the curve for differentiating Alzheimer disease from mild cognitive impairment and mild cognitive impairment from healthy controls. RESULTS In a total of 4 datasets, 1099, 212, 711, and 705 eligible patients were included. Compared with the linear Support Vector Machine and logistic regression, XGBoost significantly improved the prediction of Alzheimer disease (P < .001). In terms of differentiating Alzheimer disease from mild cognitive impairment, the 3 algorithms resulted in areas under the curve of 0.758-0.825. XGBoost had a sensitivity of 68% and a specificity of 70%. In terms of differentiating mild cognitive impairment from the healthy control group, the 3 algorithms resulted in areas under the curve of 0.668-0.870. XGBoost had a sensitivity of 79% and a specificity of 80%. CONCLUSIONS The deep learning-based automatic brain segmentation and classification algorithm allowed an accurate diagnosis of Alzheimer disease using T1-weighted brain MR images. The widespread availability of T1-weighted brain MR imaging suggests that this algorithm is a promising and widely applicable method for predicting Alzheimer disease.

A dynamic model was developed to predict the Escherichia coli
cell counts in pig trotters at changing temperatures. Five-strain mixture of
pathogenic E. coli at 4 Log CFU/g were inoculated to cooked pig
trotter samples. The samples were stored at 10°C, 20°C, and
25°C. The cell count data was analyzed with the Baranyi model to compute
the maximum specific growth rate (μmax) (Log
CFU/g/h) and lag phase duration (LPD) (h). The kinetic
parameters were analyzed using a polynomial equation, and a dynamic model was
developed using the kinetic models. The model performance was evaluated using
the accuracy factor (Af), bias factor
(Bf), and root mean square error
(RMSE). E. coli cell counts increased
(p<0.05) in pig trotter samples at all storage temperatures
(10°C–25°C). LPD decreased (p<0.05)
and μmax increased (p<0.05) as storage
temperature increased. In addition, the value of h0
was similar at 10°C and 20°C, implying that the physiological
state was similar between 10°C and 20°C. The secondary models used
were appropriate to evaluate the effect of storage temperature on
LPD and μmax. The
developed kinetic models showed good performance with RMSE of
0.618, Bf of 1.02, and
Af of 1.08. Also, performance of the dynamic
model was appropriate. Thus, the developed dynamic model in this study can be
applied to describe the kinetic behavior of E. coli in cooked
pig trotters during storage.

Abstract
Modifying material properties at the nanoscale is crucially important for devices in nano-electronics, nanophotonics and quantum information. Optically active defects in wide band gap materials, for instance, are critical constituents for the realisation of quantum technologies. Here, we demonstrate the use of recoil implantation, a method exploiting momentum transfer from accelerated ions, for versatile and mask-free material doping. As a proof of concept, we direct-write arrays of optically active defects into diamond via momentum transfer from a Xe+ focused ion beam (FIB) to thin films of the group IV dopants pre-deposited onto a diamond surface. We further demonstrate the flexibility of the technique, by implanting rare earth ions into the core of a single mode fibre. We conclusively show that the presented technique yields ultra-shallow dopant profiles localised to the top few nanometres of the target surface, and use it to achieve sub-50 nm positional accuracy. The method is applicable to non-planar substrates with complex geometries, and it is suitable for applications such as electronic and magnetic doping of atomically-thin materials and engineering of near-surface states of semiconductor devices.

Abstract
Valley polarization is among the most critical attributes of atomically thin materials. However, increasing contrast from monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) has so far been challenging. In this work, a large degree of circular polarization up to 45% from a monolayer WS2 is achieved at room temperature by using a single chiral plasmonic nanoparticle. The increased contrast is attributed to the selective enhancement of both the excitation and the emission rate having one particular handedness of the circular polarization, together with accelerated radiative recombination of valley excitons due to the Purcell effect. The experimental results are corroborated by the optical simulation using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. Additionally, the single chiral nanoparticle enables the observation of valley-polarized luminescence with a linear excitation. The results provide a promising pathway to enhance valley contrast from monolayer TMDs and utilize them for nanophotonic devices.

Abstract
This study aimed to compare the three strains of Listeria monocytogenes survival in raw milk cheese and pasteurized milk cheese and to suggest the effect of milk microbiota on survival. L. monocytogenes cell counts decreased in all cheese as ripening time increased, and the survival rate was different for the strains of L. monocytogenes. Furthermore, L. monocytogenes survived longer in raw milk cheese than in pasteurized milk cheese. The difference of bacterial survival in each cheese was independent of Aw or the Lactobacillus spp. populations in cheeses; there was no difference in Aw or Lactobacillus spp. populations in all cheeses. The richness of microbiota in raw milk was little higher than in pasteurized milk, and five phyla (Chloroflexi, Cyanobacteria, Deinococcus-Thermus, Lentisphaerae, and Verrucomicrobia) were present only in raw milk. Also, organic acid-producing bacteria were presented more in pasteurized milk compared with raw milk; thus, the growth of L. monocytogenes was slower in pasteurized milk. In conclusion, differences in the microbial community of milk can affect the growth of L. monocytogenes. Making cheese using raw milk is a risk of L. monocytogenes infection; thus, efforts to prevent growth of L. monocytogenes such as the use of appropriate food additives are required.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Uremic pruritus is common in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The retention of uremic solutes is thought to be associated with uremic pruritus. Meanwhile, activation of protease-activated receptor-2 (PAR-2) has been suggested to play an important role in pruritus. The present study was performed to investigate the effects of uremic solutes on the expression of PAR-2 in the skin. METHODS Indoxyl sulfate (IS), p-cresol (PC), and uremic sera from CKD patients were used to stimulate PAR-2 expression in normal human epidermal keratinocytes (NHEKs). Also, NHEKs were additionally pretreated with soybean trypsin inhibitor to evaluate its inhibitory effect on PAR-2 expression. Patterns of cutaneous PAR-2 expression were investigated in skin samples from five CKD patients and CKD mice. RESULTS In NHEKs, IS, PC, and sera from CKD patients significantly induced PAR-2 mRNA and protein expression. Soybean trypsin inhibitor significantly decreased PAR-2 mRNA and protein expression in NHEKs treated with IS, PC, and CKD sera. NHEKs treated with IS and PC exhibited significant increases in protease activity. Skin from both CKD patients and mice exhibited marked upregulation of PAR-2 expression compared to control skin. CONCLUSIONS Results from the present study suggest that uremic solutes either directly or indirectly affect PAR-2 expression in the skin of CKD subjects, potentially playing an important role in the pathogenesis of uremic pruritus.

Abstract
PURPOSE To study and compare the efficacy of different therapeutic options for the treatment of central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR). METHODS This is a nonrandomized, international multicentre study on 1719 patients (1861 eyes) diagnosed with CSCR, from 63 centres (24 countries). Reported data included different methods of treatment and both results of diagnostic examinations [fluorescein angiography and/or optical coherent tomography (OCT)] and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) before and after therapy. The duration of observation had a mean of 11 months but was extended in a minority of cases up to 7 years. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of the different therapeutic options of CSCR in terms of both visual (BCVA) and anatomic (OCT) improvement. RESULTS One thousand seven hundred nineteen patients (1861 eyes) diagnosed with CSCR were included. Treatments performed were nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory eye drops, laser photocoagulation, micropulse diode laser photocoagulation, photodynamic therapy (PDT; Standard PDT, Reduced-dose PDT, Reduced-fluence PDT), intravitreal (IVT) antivascular endothelial growth factor injection (VEGF), observation and other treatments. The list of the OTHERS included both combinations of the main proposed treatments or a variety of other treatments such as eplerenone, spironolactone, acetazolamide, beta-blockers, anti-anxiety drugs, aspirin, folic acid, methotrexate, statins, vitis vinifera extract medication and pars plana vitrectomy. The majority of the patients were men with a prevalence of 77%. The odds ratio (OR) showed a partial or complete resolution of fluid on OCT with any treatment as compared with observation. In univariate analysis, the anatomical result (improvement in subretinal fluid using OCT at 1 month) was favoured by age <60 years (p < 0.005), no previous observation (p < 0.0002), duration less than 3 months (p < 0.0001), absence of CSCR in the fellow eye (p = 0.04), leakage outside of the arcade (p = 0.05) and fluid height >500 μm (p = 0.03). The OR for obtaining partial or complete resolution showed that anti-VEGF and eyedrops were not statistically significant; whereas PDT (8.5), thermal laser (11.3) and micropulse laser (8.9) lead to better anatomical results with less variability. In univariate analysis, the functional result at 1 month was favoured by first episode (p = 0.04), height of subretinal fluid >500 μm (p < 0.0001) and short duration of observation (p = 0.02). Finally, there was no statistically significant difference among the treatments at 12 months. CONCLUSION Spontaneous resolution has been described in a high percentage of patients. Laser (micropulse and thermal) and PDT seem to lead to significant early anatomical improvement; however, there is little change beyond the first month of treatment. The real visual benefit needs further clarification.

Abstract
Atomically thin monolayers of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have emerged as a promising class of novel materials for optoelectronics and nonlinear optics. However, the intrinsic nonlinearity of TMD monolayers is weak, limiting their functionalities for nonlinear optical processes such as frequency conversion. Here we boost the effective nonlinear susceptibility of a TMD monolayer by integrating it with a resonant dielectric metasurface that supports pronounced optical resonances with high quality factors: bound states in the continuum (BICs). We demonstrate that a WS2 monolayer combined with a silicon metasurface hosting BICs exhibits enhanced second-harmonic intensity by more than 3 orders of magnitude relative to a WS2 monolayer on top of a flat silicon film of the same thickness. Our work suggests a pathway to employ high-index dielectric metasurfaces as hybrid structures for enhancement of TMD nonlinearities with applications in nonlinear microscopy, optoelectronics, and signal processing.

Abstract
Introduction: The affinity of hemoglobin for carbon monoxide (CO) is 250 times higher than that for oxygen. Therefore, exposure to CO leads to a reduction in oxygen delivery to tissues, resulting in cellular hypoxia and affects whole body. Hepatic dysfunction in critically ill patients is related to poor outcome, but few studies have been conducted on this subject that occurs after CO poisoning. This study aims to conduct a study of hepatic injury in CO-poisoned patients in emergency department (ED). Methods: This retrospective observational study collected data from patients who were diagnosed with acute CO poisoning at the ED between June 2011 and May 2018 in local tertiary-care hospital (Wonju, Republic of Korea). The primary end point of this study was to describe the prevalence of hepatic injury in acute CO-poisoned patients. The secondary goals were to investigate the recovery trends of hepatic injury caused by acute CO poisoning and the relation to neurologic outcome and mortality. Results: Eight hundred ninety-four patients were enrolled in the final analysis, 128 cases (14.3%) had subclinical hepatic injury and 15 (1.6%) cases had hepatic injury. The relationship with mortality was not statistically significant. However, the hepatic injury group was higher incidence of intensive care unit admission and other complications. Patients in the hepatic injury group recovered through conservative management within 1 week of being admitted to the ED. Conclusions: While CO-induced hepatic injury is relatively uncommon, it can be associated with complications and poor neurologic outcome. However, CO-induced hepatic injury was not found to have a statistically significant effect on mortality rate.

Abstract
Quantum photonics technologies require a scalable approach for the integration of nonclassical light sources with photonic resonators to achieve strong light confinement and enhancement of quantum light emission. Point defects from hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) are among the front runners for single photon sources due to their ultra-bright emission; however, the coupling of hBN defects to photonic crystal cavities has so far remained elusive. Here we demonstrate on-chip integration of hBN quantum emitters with photonic crystal cavities from silicon nitride (Si3N4) and achieve an experimentally measured quality factor (Q-factor) of 3300 for hBN/Si3N4 hybrid cavities. We observed 6-fold photoluminescence enhancement of an hBN single photon emission at room temperature. Our work will be useful for further development of cavity quantum electrodynamic experiments and on-chip integration of two-dimensional (2D) materials.
