Abstract
The purpose of the study was to explore effect of four different strains on quality characteristics of soy yogurt. The results showed that four strains were all related to the genus Lactobacillus and N1 was Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus, N2 was Lacticaseibacillus paracasei, N3 was Lacticaseibacillus plantarum, and N4 was Lacticaseibacillus acidophilus. The result analysis of biochemical, sensory, nutritional, functional and safety properties of fermentation process and end products showed that the soy yogurt fermented with L. rhamnosus N1 had the highest isoflavone content and the lowest phytic acid content; the soy yogurt fermented with L. paracasei N2 had the highest content of free amino acids and oligosaccharides, the lowest content of trypsin inhibitors; the soy yogurt fermented with L. plantarum N3 had the lowest oil content; the soy yogurt fermented with L. acidophilus N4 had optimal functional properties. In summary, N4 was suitable as a fermentation strain for soymilk.

Abstract
We developed a new tool to assess the severity of osteoporotic vertebral fracture using radiographs of the spine. Our technique can be used in patient care by helping to stratify patients with osteoporotic vertebral fractures into appropriate treatment pathways. It can also be used for research purposes. PURPOSE The aim of our study was to propose a semi-quantitative (SQ) grading scheme for osteoporotic vertebral fracture (OVF) on anteroposterior (AP) radiographs. METHODS On AP radiographs, the vertebrae are divided into right and left halves, which are graded (A) vertical rectangle, (B) square, (C) traverse rectangle, and (D) trapezoid; whole vertebrae are graded (E) transverse band or (F) bow-tie. Type A and B were compared with normal and Genant SQ grade 1 OVF, Type C and D with grade 2 OVF, and Type E and F with grade 3 OVF. Spine AP radiographs and lateral radiographs of 50 females were assessed by AP radiographs SQ grading. After training, an experienced board-certified radiologist and a radiology trainee assessed the 50 AP radiographs. RESULTS The height-to-width ratio of the half vertebrae varied 1.32-1.48. On lateral radiographs, 84 vertebrae of the 50 patients had OVFs (38 grade 1, 24 grade 2, and 22 grade 3). On AP radiographs, the radiologist correctly assigned 84.2%, 91.7%, and 77.2% and the trainee correctly assigned 68.4%, 79.2%, and 81.8% of grade 1, 2, and 3 OVFs, respectively. Compared with lateral radiographs, the radiologist had a weighted Kappa of 0.944 including normal vertebrae and 0.883 not including normal vertebrae, while the corresponding Kappa values for the trainee were 0.891 and 0.830, respectively. CONCLUSION We propose a new semi-quantitative grading system for vertebral fracture severity assessment on AP spine radiographs.

Abstract
Model-estimated air pollution exposure assessments have been extensively employed in the evaluation of health risks associated with air pollution. However, few studies synthetically evaluate the reliability of model-estimated PM2.5 products in health risk assessment by comparing them with ground-based monitoring station air quality data. In response to this gap, we undertook a meticulously structured systematic review and meta-analysis. Our objective was to aggregate existing comparative studies to ascertain the disparity in mortality effect estimates derived from model-estimated ambient PM2.5 exposure versus those based on monitoring station-observed PM2.5 exposure. We conducted searches across multiple databases, namely PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, using predefined keywords. Ultimately, ten studies were included in the review. Of these, seven investigated long-term annual exposure, while the remaining three studies focused on short-term daily PM2.5 exposure. Despite variances in the estimated Exposure-Response (E-R) associations, most studies revealed positive associations between ambient PM2.5 exposure and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, irrespective of the exposure being estimated through models or observed at monitoring stations. Our meta-analysis revealed that all-cause mortality risk associated with model-estimated PM2.5 exposure was in line with that derived from station-observed sources. The pooled Relative Risk (RR) was 1.083 (95% CI: 1.047, 1.119) for model-estimated exposure, and 1.089 (95% CI: 1.054, 1.125) for station-observed sources (p = 0.795). In conclusion, most model-estimated air pollution products have demonstrated consistency in estimating mortality risk compared to data from monitoring stations. However, only a limited number of studies have undertaken such comparative analyses, underscoring the necessity for more comprehensive investigations to validate the reliability of these model-estimated exposure in mortality risk assessment.

Abstract
Spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a kind of hemorrhagic stroke which causes neurological deficits in survivors. Huperzine A has a neuroprotective effect, but its role in SAH is unclear. Therefore, we explore the effect of Huperzine A on neurological deficits induced by SAH and the related mechanism. In this study, Evans blue assay, TUNEL staining, immunofluorescence, western blot analysis, and ELISA are conducted. We find that Huperzine A can improve neurological deficits and inhibit the apoptosis of nerve cells in SAH rats. Huperzine A treatment can improve the upregulation of brain water content, damage of blood-brain barrier, fibrinogen and matrix metalloprotein 9 expressions and the downregulation of ZO-1 and occludin expressions induced by SAH. Huperzine A inhibit the expressions of proteins involved in pyroptosis in endothelial cells in SAH rats. The increase in MDA content and decrease in SOD activity in SAH rats can be partly reversed by Huperzine A. The ROS inducer H 2O 2 can induce pyroptosis and inhibit the expressions of ZO-1 and occludin in endothelial cells, which can be blocked by Huperzine A. In addition, the increase in the entry of p65 into the nucleus in endothelial cells can be partly reversed by Huperzine A. Huperzine A may delay the damage of blood-brain barrier in SAH rats by inhibiting oxidative stress-mediated pyroptosis and tight junction protein expression downregulation through the NF-κB pathway. Overall, Huperzine A may have clinical value for treating SAH.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Many studies have focused on the quality of pain management in hospitalized patients with cancer pain, while what happens after discharge remains unclear. AIM The purpose of this study was to investigate the pain intensity and satisfaction of pain relief among a large sample of Chinese patients with cancer pain after discharge. DESIGN Cross-sectional, descriptive, correlational research. SETTINGS AND SAMPLE ABOUT: 1,013 patients were recruited in a tertiary cancer hospital, and their residence addresses were distributed in 6 geographical regions, including 26 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions. METHODS The 1,013 patients with cancer pain were discharged from the wards of a national cancer hospital in China from July 2020 to October 2021. A nurse in the pain clinic followed the patients based on a whole-process information system and collected the data after the cancer pain patients were discharged. The study methods followed the STROBE guidelines. RESULTS The average age of 1,013 discharged patients was 61.30 (±12.56) years. Moderate and severe background pain (BGP) was reported in 749 patients (73.94%), and more than 3 instances of breakthrough pain (BTP) in the past 24 hours were reported in 541 patients (53.41%). More severe BGP was associated with more frequent BTP (p < .01). In addition, there were 572 patients (56.47%) whose satisfaction with pain relief was lower than 70%. More severe BGP was associated with a lower satisfaction degree (r = -0.796, p < .01). CONCLUSIONS Pain among discharged Chinese patients with cancer is poorly managed, and there is a low degree of satisfaction with pain relief. Nurses can do more work to assist cancer patients in managing pain more effectively by ensuring they have a plan to report and manage pain after discharge.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rapid identification and classification of bats are critical for practical applications. However, species identification of bats is a typically detrimental and time-consuming manual task that depends on taxonomists and well-trained experts. Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (DCNNs) provide a practical approach for the extraction of the visual features and classification of objects, with potential application for bat classification. RESULTS In this study, we investigated the capability of deep learning models to classify 7 horseshoe bat taxa (CHIROPTERA: Rhinolophus) from Southern China. We constructed an image dataset of 879 front, oblique, and lateral targeted facial images of live individuals collected during surveys between 2012 and 2021. All images were taken using a standard photograph protocol and setting aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of the DCNNs classification. The results demonstrated that our customized VGG16-CBAM model achieved up to 92.15% classification accuracy with better performance than other mainstream models. Furthermore, the Grad-CAM visualization reveals that the model pays more attention to the taxonomic key regions in the decision-making process, and these regions are often preferred by bat taxonomists for the classification of horseshoe bats, corroborating the validity of our methods. CONCLUSION Our finding will inspire further research on image-based automatic classification of chiropteran species for early detection and potential application in taxonomy.

Abstract
In response to the challenges posed by an aging population, an increasing cancer incidence, and the growing demand for hospice care services, China has actively promoted the development of hospice and palliative care, achieving significant progress in the past five years. This article provides a retrospective analysis of the efforts and accomplishments in the field of hospice and palliative care in China, focusing on government policy support, quality standards and regulations, drug management, health provider training, and public education. Additionally, the study explores the current issues and challenges in the field.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The acute health effects of short-term (hours to days) exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2·5) have been well documented; however, the global mortality burden attributable to this exposure has not been estimated. We aimed to estimate the global, regional, and urban mortality burden associated with short-term exposure to PM2·5 and the spatiotemporal variations in this burden from 2000 to 2019. METHODS We combined estimated global daily PM2·5 concentrations, annual population counts, country-level mortality rates, and epidemiologically derived exposure-response functions to estimate the mortality attributable to short-term PM2·5 exposure from 2000 to 2019, in the continental regions and in 13 189 urban centres worldwide at a spatial resolution of 0·1° × 0·1°. We tested the robustness of our mortality estimates with different theoretical minimum risk exposure levels, lag effects, and exposure-response functions. FINDINGS Approximately 1 million (95% CI 690 000-1·3 million) premature deaths per year from 2000 to 2019 were attributable to short-term PM2·5 exposure, representing 2·08% (1·41-2·75) of total global deaths or 17 (11-22) premature deaths per 100 000 population. Annually, 0·23 million (0·15 million-0·30 million) deaths attributable to short-term PM2·5 exposure were in urban areas, constituting 22·74% of the total global deaths attributable to this cause and accounting for 2·30% (1·56-3·05) of total global deaths in urban areas. The sensitivity analyses showed that our worldwide estimates of mortality attributed to short-term PM2·5 exposure were robust. INTERPRETATION Short-term exposure to PM2·5 contributes a substantial global mortality burden, particularly in Asia and Africa, as well as in global urban areas. Our results highlight the importance of mitigation strategies to reduce short-term exposure to air pollution and its adverse effects on human health. Abstract
Background: Lactoferrin (LF) is a multifunctional glycoprotein found in human milk and body fluids, which has been shown to play a vital role in regulating the immunity and supporting the intestinal health of infants. Aim: This study evaluated the association between maternal/parturient factors and LF concentration in the breast milk of Chinese mothers. Methods: 207 breast milk samples were collected from healthy mothers with in the first year of lactation. Maternal and parturient information was collected for these participants through questionnaires. The content of lactoferrin in breast milk was detected by liquid chromatography, and macronutrient concentration in breast milk was measured by human milk analyzer in only 109 samples. Results: Our findings demonstrated that the LF content was much higher within the first month of lactation than it was after that period (p < 0.05). When compared with normal and lean mothers, the LF content of obese mothers was considerably higher (p < 0.05). The parity and LF content showed a favorable correlation. The proportion of LF to total protein tended to decrease as lactation progressed. Protein, fat, dry matter, and energy content were significantly positively correlated with LF content (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Early breast milk tends to have a higher level of LF, and the change of LF concentration in breast milk is associated with the parity and body mass index of the mother.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of immediate implantation for chronic peri-apical periodontitis in the molar region. Seventy-four molars were selected and allocated randomly to two groups. The experimental group (n = 38) received immediate implantation by flap surgery and the control group (n = 36) received delayed implantation. CBCT was performed immediately after surgery (T1) and 12 months after the permanent repair (T3). The implant survival rate at T3 was 100% in both groups. There was no significant difference in buccal or lingual vertical marginal bone loss between the groups (P = 0.515, P = 0.736). However, the buccal horizontal margin bone loss was significantly greater in the experimental group: 0.98 ± 0.34 mm vs 0.77 ± 0.27 mm in the control group (P = 0.003). In the experimental group, the highest point of buccal and lingual implant-bone contact increased at T3. The buccal and lingual jump gap widths were 3.21 ± 1.10 mm and 2.92 ± 1.01 mm at T1, and CBCT showed no jump gap around the implants at T3. The clinical outcomes showed immediate implantation to be feasible for chronic peri-apical periodontitis in the molar region.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effectiveness of comprehensive echinococcosis control measures with emphasis on management of infectious source in Sichuan Province from 2010 to 2022, so as to provide insights into formulation of future control interventions. METHODS Data pertaining to comprehensive echinococcosis control measures with emphasis on management of infectious source and echinococcosis surveillance in Sichuan Province from 2010 to 2022 were collected. The effectiveness of comprehensive echinococcosis control measures with emphasis on management of infectious source was evaluated with prevalence of human echinococcosis, detection of newly diagnosed echinococcosis patients, prevalence of Echinococcus infection in domestic dogs, prevalence of cystic echinococcosis in livestock, prevalence of alveolar echinococcosis in small mammals and awareness of echinococcosis control knowledge, and Spearman's rank correlation analysis. RESULTS The prevalence of human echinococcosis reduced from 1.08% in 2010 to 0.40% in 2022 in Sichuan Province (χ2 = 1 482.97, P < 0.05), with a reduction from 0.30% to 0.02% in the detection of newly diagnosed echinococcosis cases (χ2 = 2 776.41, P < 0.05), a reduction from 15.87% to 0.46% in the prevalence of Echinococcus infection in domestic dogs (χ2 = 20 823.96, P < 0.05), a reduction from 8.05% to 1.07% in the prevalence of cystic echinococcosis in livestock (χ2 = 1 296.02, P < 0.05), and the awareness of echinococcosis control knowledge increased from 50.65% to 95.24% (χ2 = 34 938.63, P < 0.05); in addition, there was a year-specific prevalence rate of alveolar echinococcosis in small mammals (χ2 = 164.07, P < 0.05). Spearman's rank correlation analysis revealed that the detection of newly diagnosed echinococcosis cases correlated positively with the prevalence of Echinococcus infections in domestic dogs (rs = 0.823, P < 0.05) and the prevalence of cystic echinococcosis in livestock (rs = 0.795, P < 0.05), and correlated negatively with the awareness of echinococcosis control knowledge (rs = - 0.918, P < 0.05), and the prevalence of Echinococcus infection in domestic dogs correlated positively with the prevalence of cystic echinococcosis in livestock (rs = 0.753, P < 0.05) and negatively with the awareness of echinococcosis control knowledge (rs = -0.747, P < 0.05); however, there was no correlation between the prevalence of Echinococcus infections in domestic dogs and the prevalence of alveolar echinococcosis in small mammals (rs = -0.750, P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The comprehensive echinococcosis control measures with emphasis on management of infectious source had achieved remarkable effectiveness in Sichuan Province; however, the transmission chain of echinococcosis has not been interrupted. Reinforced comprehensive echinococcosis control measures with emphasis on management of infectious source and sustained tracking evaluation of the effectiveness are recommended in Sichuan Province.

Abstract
BACKGROUND H101, an innovative oncolytic adenovirus, has shown potential in modifying the tumor microenvironment from immunologically 'cold' to 'hot'. When combined with nivolumab, a programmed cell death protein 1 inhibitor, this synergy may offer substantial therapeutic benefits beyond the capabilities of each agent alone. PATIENTS AND METHODS In this pilot study, we assessed the efficacy and safety of combining H101 with nivolumab in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients who failed prior systemic therapy. The participants received initial oncolytic virus (OV) pretreatment with intratumoral H101 injections (5.0 × 1011 vp/0.5 ml/vial, two vials per lesion) on days 1 and 3. Combination therapy started on day 8, with H101 administered every 2 or 4 weeks and nivolumab (240 mg) injections every 2 weeks. Treatment continued up to 12 months or until disease progression, intolerable toxicity, consent withdrawal, or study conclusion. The primary endpoint was the objective response rate (ORR). RESULTS Between March 2020 and March 2022, 18 of 21 screened patients were assessable, showing an ORR of 11.1% [two cases of partial response (PR) and five cases of stable disease], with extrahepatic injections often leading to favorable outcomes. The disease control rate stood at 38.9%, with a 6-month survival rate of 88.9%. Median progression-free survival was 2.69 months, and overall survival (OS) was 15.04 months. Common adverse events included low-grade fever (100%) and pain related to centesis (33.3%), and no grade 3/4 events were reported. Significantly, local H101 injection showed potential in reversing immune checkpoint inhibitor resistance, evidenced by over 2.5 years of extended OS in PR cases with low α-fetoprotein. Additionally, decreasing neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio during OV pretreatment may predict positive outcomes. CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrates the potential efficacy of combining H101 with nivolumab in treating refractory advanced HCC, with well-tolerated toxicities.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the prevalence and epidemiological characteristics of taeniasis and cysticercosis among residents in Tibetan agricultural areas of Sichuan Province, so as to provide insights for the prevention and control of taeniasis and cysticercosis. METHODS From 2016 to 2022, Kangding City, Daocheng County, Derong County, Ruoergai County and Muli Tibetan Autonomous County were sampled from Tibetan agricultural areas of Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture and Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province, and 1 to 6 townships were sampled from each county (district), followed by 4 to 7 villages sampled from each township. Primary school children were sampled using a cluster sampling method, and permanent residents at ages of over 16 years were randomly sampled from each village. Participants' demographics, history of tapeworm excretion during the past year and clinical symptoms and signs of cysticercosis were collected through questionnaire surveys, and participants' stool and venous blood samples were collected. Taenia eggs were detected in stool samples using the direct smear method, and deworming was performed among taeniasis patients with areca nut-squash seeds. The tapeworm species were identified using a multiplex PCR assay, and serum specific IgG antibody against cysticercus was detected using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). RESULTS A total of 5 249 respondents participated in the questionnaire survey, including 603 respondents (11.5%) with a self-reported history of proglottids secretion during the past year. A total of 3 976 residents were subjected to stool examinations, and the detection of Taenia eggs was 6.5%. Of 258 participants undergoing deworming, there were 403 cases (94.2%) with excretions of Taenia worms or proglottids. The mean prevalence of taeniasis was 10.9% (439/4 043), and there were gender-, age- and region-specific prevalence rates of taeniasis (χ2 = 36.73, 126.31 and 163.41, all P values < 0.05). Multiplex PCR assays detected 41 cases with T. solium infections (12.5%), 197 cases with T. saginata infections (59.9%) and 91 cases with T. asiatica infections (27.6%) among 329 patients undergoing deworming, and there were region-specific prevalence rates of T. solium, T. saginata and T. asiatica infections (χ2 = 45.39, P < 0.05). In addition, the sero-prevalence of anti-cysticercus IgG antibody was 7.0% (345/4 933), and there were age- and region-specific sero-prevalence rates of anti-cysticercus IgG antibody (χ2 = 13.49 and 51.76, both P values < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Multiple Taenia species are prevalent in Tibetan agricultural areas of Sichuan Province and the sero-prevalence of anti-cysticercus antibody is high among residents. Monitoring and control of taeniasis and cysticercosis should be strengthened.

Abstract
The present study aimed to clarify the brain function of classical trigeminal neuralgia (CTN) by analyzing 77 CTN patients and age- and gender-matched 73 healthy controls (HCs) based on three frequency bands of the static and dynamic amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation, regional homogeneity, and degree centrality (sALFF, sReHo, sDC, dALFF, dReHo, and dDC). Compared to HCs, the number of altered brain regions was different in three frequency bands, and the classical frequency band was most followed by slow-4 in CTN patients. Cerrelellum_8_L (sReHo), Cerrelellum_8_R (sDC), Calcarine_R (sDC), and Caudate_R (sDC) were found only in classical frequency band, while Precuneus_L (sALFF) and Frontal_Inf_Tri_L (sReHo) were found only in slow-4 frequency band. Except for the above six brain regions, the others overlapped in the classical and slow-4 frequency bands. CTN seriously affects the mental health of patients, and some different brain regions are correlated with clinical parameters. The static and dynamic indicators of brain function were complementary in CTN patients, and the changing brain regions showed frequency specificity. Compared to slow-5 frequency band, slow-4 is more consistent with the classical frequency band, which could be valuable in exploring the pathophysiology of CTN.

Abstract
Objective: To describe the epidemiological characteristics of intakes of different types of preserved vegetables in participants from the China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB). Methods: The CKB project conducted baseline survey, the first resurvey, and the second resurvey during 2004-2008, 2008, and 2013-2014, respectively. According to the average intake levels of salted and sour pickled vegetables in the second resurvey, the 10 survey areas were classified as the area where people mainly consumed salted vegetables, the area where people mainly consumed sour pickled vegetables, and the area where people rarely consumed preserved vegetables. For the first two areas, logistic regression model was used to describe the temporal trends and population distribution of preserved vegetable intake and analyze the distribution of other dietary factors. Results: The area where people mainly consumed salted vegetables included Qingdao, Harbin, Suzhou, and Zhejiang (baseline participant number: 204 036), while the area where people mainly consumed sour pickled vegetables included Gansu and Sichuan (baseline participant number: 105 573). In the area where people mainly consumed salted vegetables, the average intake frequencies of preserved vegetables was 3.1, 3.3, and 1.8 days/week in the baseline survey, the first resurvey, and the second resurvey, respectively, showing a declining trend (P<0.001). Similarly, the average intake frequencies of preserved vegetables were 2.8, 2.7, and 1.6 days/week in the baseline survey, the first resurvey and the second resurvey in the area where people mainly consumed sour pickled vegetables (P<0.001). At baseline survey, the married and those had lower education level tended to have more preserved vegetable intakes in both areas (P<0.001). In the area where people mainly consumed salted vegetables, the elderly had higher frequency of preserved vegetable intake (P<0.001), which was converse in the area where people mainly consumed sour pickled vegetables. In the participants with higher frequency of preserved vegetable intake, more people consumed spicy food daily and preferred salty food (P<0.05). Conclusions: The area and population specific differences in the type and frequency of preserved vegetable intake were observed in adults in the CKB project in China. Besides, the average level of preserved vegetable intake showed a declining trend. Preserved vegetable intake might be associated with other dietary habits.

Abstract
Purpose Research has demonstrated a strong correlation between mathematics self-efficacy and math performance. Middle school children are increasingly receiving solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), which is a type of psychotherapy. The study intends to use SFBT intervention to improve mathematics self-efficacy of students and to determine whether SFBT intervention was effective. To examine whether Rasch model can be used to evaluate students' mathematics self-efficacy. Methods This study intends to use Radar chart, Rasch model, Line chart to measure the variations of mathematics self-efficacy of three 8th graders (n=3) during SFBT intervention. Results Radar chart and Rasch model demonstrated a general increment in the mathematics self-efficacy of two pupils, while another one decreased. Additionally, three students showed a decline in their mathematics self-efficacy on particular mathematical problems using a line chart. Conclusion Overall, students with varied degrees of self-efficacy in math benefited from SFBT interventions, which partially supports the usefulness of SFBT as a tool for assessing students' mathematics self-efficacy. It supported that Rasch model can reflected the changes in students' mathematics self-efficacy. This study provides guidance for measuring the improvement of students' academic self-efficacy through SFBT intervention using Rasch model.

Abstract
BACKGROUND More intense tropical cyclones (TCs) are expected in the future under a warming climate scenario, but little is known about their mortality effect pattern across countries and over decades. We aim to evaluate the TC-specific mortality risks, periods of concern (POC) and characterize the spatiotemporal pattern and exposure-response (ER) relationships on a multicountry scale. METHODS AND FINDINGS Daily all-cause, cardiovascular, and respiratory mortality among the general population were collected from 494 locations in 18 countries or territories during 1980 to 2019. Daily TC exposures were defined when the maximum sustained windspeed associated with a TC was ≥34 knots using a parametric wind field model at a 0.5° × 0.5° resolution. We first estimated the TC-specific mortality risks and POC using an advanced flexible statistical framework of mixed Poisson model, accounting for the population changes, natural variation, seasonal and day of the week effects. Then, a mixed meta-regression model was used to pool the TC-specific mortality risks to estimate the overall and country-specific ER relationships of TC characteristics (windspeed, rainfall, and year) with mortality. Overall, 47.7 million all-cause, 15.5 million cardiovascular, and 4.9 million respiratory deaths and 382 TCs were included in our analyses. An overall average POC of around 20 days was observed for TC-related all-cause and cardiopulmonary mortality, with relatively longer POC for the United States of America, Brazil, and Taiwan (>30 days). The TC-specific relative risks (RR) varied substantially, ranging from 1.04 to 1.42, 1.07 to 1.77, and 1.12 to 1.92 among the top 100 TCs with highest RRs for all-cause, cardiovascular, and respiratory mortality, respectively. At country level, relatively higher TC-related mortality risks were observed in Guatemala, Brazil, and New Zealand for all-cause, cardiovascular, and respiratory mortality, respectively. We found an overall monotonically increasing and approximately linear ER curve of TC-related maximum sustained windspeed and cumulative rainfall with mortality, with heterogeneous patterns across countries and regions. The TC-related mortality risks were generally decreasing from 1980 to 2019, especially for the Philippines, Taiwan, and the USA, whereas potentially increasing trends in TC-related all-cause and cardiovascular mortality risks were observed for Japan. CONCLUSIONS The TC mortality risks and POC varied greatly across TC events, locations, and countries. To minimize the TC-related health burdens, targeted strategies are particularly needed for different countries and regions, integrating epidemiological evidence on region-specific POC and ER curves that consider across-TC variability.

Abstract
Diabetic complications can be divided into macrovascular complications such as cardiovascular disease and cerebrovascular disease and microvascular complications such as diabetic retinopathy, diabetic nephropathy and diabetic neuropathy. Among them, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is an important cause of death in diabetic patients. Diabetes retinopathy (DR) is one of the main reasons for the increasing disability rate of diabetes. In recent years, some studies have found that because DR and CVD have a common pathophysiological basis, the occurrence of DR and CVD are inseparable, and to a certain extent, DR can predict the occurrence of CVD. With the development of technology, the fundus parameters of DR can be quantitatively analyzed as an independent risk factor of CVD. In addition, the cytokines related to DR can also be used for early screening of DR. Although many advances have been made in the treatment of CVD, its situation of prevention and treatment is still not optimistic. This review hopes to discuss the feasibility of DR in predicting CVD from the common pathophysiological mechanism of DR and CVD, the new progress of diagnostic techniques for DR, and the biomarkers for early screening of DR.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the prevalence of Echinococcus infections in wild carnivores in Serthar County, Sichuan Province, so as to provide insights into echinococcosis control in local areas. METHODS Stool samples were collected from wild carnivores in Serthar County, Sichuan Province in May 2021, and the host sources of stool samples and Echinococcus infections were identified using PCR assays. The prevalence of E. multilocularis, E. granulosus and E. shiquicus infections was estimated in different hosts. RESULTS A total of 583 stool samples were collected from wild carnivores, including 147 stool samples from fox, 154 from wolf, 227 from wild dogs and 11 from lynx. The overall prevalence of E. multilocularis, E. granulosus and E. shiquicus infections was 5.68%, 0.19% and 14.20% in canine stool samples, and no E. granulosus infection was detected in fox stool samples, while the prevalence of E. multilocularis and E. shiquicus infections was 0.68% and 47.62% in fox stool samples (χ2 = 88.41, P < 0.001). No E. granulosus or E. shiquicus infection was detected in wolf stool samples, and the prevalence of E. multilocularis infection was 10.39% in wolf stool samples. The prevalence of E. multilocularis, E. granulosus and E. shiquicus infections was 5.73%, 0.44% and 2.20% in canine stool samples (χ2 = 12.13, P < 0.01). In addition, the prevalence of E. multilocularis infections was significantly higher in wolf stool samples than in canine and fox stool samples (χ2 = 13.23, P < 0.01), and the prevalence of E. shiquicus infections was significantly higher in fox stool samples than in canine and wolf stool samples (χ2 = 187.01, P < 0.001). No Echinococcus infection was identified in 11 lynx stool samples. CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of Echinococcus infections is high in wild canines in Serthar County, Sichuan Province. Wolf, wild dog and fox all participate in the wild life cycle of E. multilocularis in Serthar County, and wolf and wild dogs may play a more important role.

Abstract
Xanthine oxidase (XO) may be involved in the induction of oxidative stress and inflammation. We measured serum XO levels at multiple days to determine whether it is associated with the severity and prognosis of severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI). In this prospective cohort study, we quantified serum XO levels in 112 sTBI patients and 112 controls. Serum XO levels of patients were measured at admission and at days 1, 3, 5, 7, and 10 after sTBI. Extended Glasgow outcome scale scores of 1-4 at post-trauma 180 days were defined as a poor prognosis. Multivariate analysis was employed to determine the relationship between poor prognosis and serum XO levels at multiple days. Serum XO levels were significantly increased at admission among patients, afterwards elevated gradually, peaked at day 3, and then diminished gradually until day 10, and were substantially higher during 10 days in patients than in controls. Serum XO levels at 6 different days were all correlated with admission Rotterdam computed tomography (CT) scores and Glasgow coma scale (GCS) scores. Serum XO levels at 6 different days were all substantially higher in patients with poor prognosis than in those with good prognosis. Serum XO levels at days 7 and 10, but not at days 1, 3, and 5, had significantly lower area under receiver operating characteristic (AUC) than those at admission. Serum XO levels at admission and at days 1 and 3, but not at day 5, were independently associated with 180-day poor prognosis. Prognostic prediction model containing GCS scores, Rotterdam CT scores, and serum XO levels at admission (or at days 1 and 3) showed substantially higher AUC than GCS scores and Rotterdam CT scores alone. The models were visually described using nomograms, which were comparatively stable under calibration curve and were relatively of clinical benefit under decision curve. Elevated serum XO levels during early period of sTBI are more closely associated with trauma severity and clinical adverse outcomes, assuming that serum XO may serve as a potential prognostic biomarker in sTBI.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Previous studies showed that selective bladder-sparing approach using TMT is an established therapy of MIBC with outcomes that are comparable to those of radical cystectomy. However, it has been shown that the 5-year local recurrence in the bladder is greater than 40% after TMT. One of the possible reasons was that the RT dose to the bladder tumor or tumor bed was insufficient. Thus, we assessed the effectiveness and safety of Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy (SABR) boost to bladder tumor or tumor bed for patients with muscle invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). MATERIALS/METHODS A total of 59 consecutive patients with cT2-4 bladder cancer underwent transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT). TURBT was visibly complete in 25 cases. Patients received SABR to the tumor or tumor bed in the bladder followed by conventionally fractionated RT (CFRT) to pelvis and total bladder with concomitant weekly radio-sensitizing chemotherapy. During SABR intravesical installation of isovolumetric saline through urinary catheter ensured adequate bladder filling. Response rate was assessed by cystoscopic evaluation and pelvic MRI or CT. Toxicities were reported per the RTOG acute and late Radiation Morbidity Scoring Schema. RESULTS The median age of all patients was 76 years (35-90 years). All patients completed SBRT boost and 61% patients received concurrent Gemcitabine chemotherapy. After a median follow-up time of 28 months, the rate of local control (LC) at 3 years was 90.0%. The overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) rates at 3 years were 61.6% and 77.5%, respectively. Of the surviving patients, 84.4% have a disease-free and functioning bladder. Acute grade 3 gastrointestinal (GI) or genitourinary (GU) toxicities occurred in only 1.7% of the patients. Late grade 3 GU toxicity occurred in 5.1% of the patients. No patients experienced grade 4 GI or GU toxicities. CONCLUSION SABR boost followed by chemoradiation to the pelvis was found to be a well-tolerated and effective treatment for MIBC patients who are either not candidates for cystectomy or who desire bladder preservation. Randomized study is required to further evaluate this novel tri-modality treatment paradigm.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Gleason grade group 5 (GG5) prostate cancers is aggressive with high metastatic rates and is not sensitive to androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). Even the presence of a limited (tertiary) Gleason pattern 5 component may have high aggressive biological behavior. This study aims to prospectively evaluate whether a non-androgen receptor pathway therapy - adjuvant chemotherapy could improve clinical outcomes among non-metastatic prostate cancer with the above highly malignant characters. MATERIALS/METHODS This prospective non-randomized clinical trial included non-metastatic prostate cancer patients with pathologically proven Gleason score of 9-10 or tertiary Gleason pattern 5. Each subject was allowed to decide whether to receive four to six cycles chemotherapy of docetaxel after receiving a standard treatment (i.e., radical surgery ± radiotherapy or radical radiotherapy combined with long-term ADT). The primary endpoint was event-free survival (EFS). Event was defined as any of biochemical failure or imaging failure, or change of systemic therapy due to PSA arises, or death. The secondary end points were distant metastasis-free survival (MFS), overall survival (OS), and treatment-related adverse events. RESULTS A total of 188 consecutive patients were enrolled from November 2019 to November 2022. Median prostate-specific antigen was 26.6 ng/ml. 52% had T3b to T4 disease, 27% had N1 disease. 140 patients received standard therapy only, and 48 patients received adjuvant chemotherapy after radical therapy. The median follow-up time was 18.4 (3.0-36.7) months. The estimated 36-month EFS of the chemotherapy group and the control group were 94.7% vs. 72.8% (p = 0.044). There were 1 event who added novel endocrine therapy in the chemotherapy group, and 21 events in the control group, including 6 cases of biochemical recurrence and 9 cases of lymph node and distant metastasis, 4 cases that changed systemic therapy and 2 cases died. The MFS of the two groups at 36 months were 100% and 90.7%, respectively (P = 0.143). After the 1:1 propensity score match, the EFS and MFS of the two groups were 94.7% and 80.8% (P = 0.069), and 100% and 93.1% (P = 0.132), respectively. The urinary toxicity of grade 2 and 3 in the chemotherapy group and the control group were 4.2% and 7.1% (P = 0.134) while the grade 2 rectal toxicity were 5.0% and 10.4% (P = 0.317), respectively. No grade 4 toxicity occurred. Considering the chemotherapy-related side effects, grade 3 or above toxicity were leukopenia (41.7%), alopecia (27.1%), thrombocytopenia (2.1%) and edema (2.1%). CONCLUSION Results of this interim analysis shows that the addition of adjuvant chemotherapy after standard radical therapy tends to improve the overall recurrence and metastasis free survival of patients with highly malignant prostate cancer, and the adverse effects are tolerable, which should be confirmed by long-term follow-up results.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy (SABR) is one of the treatment options for metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) but is limited by a lack of data to evaluate targeted therapy plus immunotherapy concurrently with high-dose SABR to multiple sites. We evaluated the safety and disease control for mRCC patients who concurrently received the above tri-modality treatment. MATERIALS/METHODS Patients were treated with SABR (40-70 Gy/5-10 fractions) for small lesions or partial-SABR (tumor center boosted with 6-8 Gy/3-5 fractions with 50-60 Gy/20-25 fractions to the whole tumor volume) for bulky tumors or tumors adjacent to critical organs. When SABR/partial-SABR was not feasible, a moderate fractionated radiotherapy plan, usually 60Gy/20 fractions were applied. of Targeted therapy plus immunotherapy (PD-1 inhibitor) was not interrupted during or after radiotherapy (RT). Adverse events (AEs) were evaluated. Disease control rate (DCR), objective response rate (ORR), progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were calculated. The PFS1 was defined as the first progression since the start of RT. The PFS2 was defined as the second progression after the second RT course, if new metastases occurred after first RT were all re-irradiated, and the systemic therapy was not changed. The Kaplan-Meier method was used for time-to-event endpoints. RESULTS A total of 51 patients, with a median age of 57 yr, were enrolled. The median follow-up was 12 months. There were 75% of patients with intermediate-risk and 18% with favorable-risk disease. 61% of the patients were oligometastatic. 71% had clear cell renal cancer. There were 241 metastases while 161 (67%) were irradiated. 80% of the lesions received SABRP/partial SABR. 1 patient with 14 lesions irradiated received proton therapy. All the surviving patients are continuing using targeted therapy while 81% patients complete at least 1-year PD-1 therapy. 10 patients (20%) had grade 3 drug-related AEs: pneumonitis (n = 2), elevated alanine transaminase (n = 4), myositis (n = 1), hand-foot syndrome myositis (n = 1), enteritis (n = 1), fatigue (n = 1). There were 1 grade 4 AEs of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. No grade 3-5 RT-related AEs was found. ORR and DCR for irradiated lesion were 51% and 98%. Median OS and PFS2 was not reached. Median PFS1 was 14(6-22) months. Estimated 1- and 2-yr OS, PFS1 and PFS2 were 90% and 90%, 56% and 38%, 74% and 51% respectively. Univariate analysis showed that an PFS1 benefit was found in patients who received radiation before systemic therapy failure (p = 0.038). CONCLUSION We investigated the high-dose RT in combination of concurrent targeted and immunotherapy in patients with metastatic RCC. We found that this treatment regimen was well tolerated, with good cancer control. Early use of high-dose RT to multi-lesions may improve PFS. Partial-SABR for bulky lesions close to critical organs could be safely and effectively applied under certain circumstances. These encouraging findings warrant further investigation.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) The current gold standard of care for resectable locally advanced esophageal cancer is neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NCRT) followed by surgery. Given that only 30-40% of patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) achieved a pathologic complete response (pCR) following neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy, it is critical to understand the biological basis of NCRT resistance in esophageal cancer and identify biomarkers for these patients in order to further personalize treatment plans. We aim to depict the biological landscape of ESCC responsiveness and resistance to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy. MATERIALS/METHODS Endoscopic biopsied specimens of the primary tumors and paired peripheral blood samples were obtained from 24 patients before neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy and tested for whole exosome sequencing, RNA sequencing, and DIA mass spectrometry. Genomic data were analyzed for significantly mutated genes, copy number alterations, MSI, TMB, and mutational signatures. Transcriptomics and proteomics data were used to examine differentially activated pathways. GSEA and ActivePathways were used for the single omics level and joint multi-omics analysis, respectively. Tumor microenvironment (TME) characteristics were deconvoluted by xCell upon RNA-seq data. Treatment resistance biomarkers were identified and validated in a separate cohort using mIHC. RESULTS In the study cohort, 54% (13/24) of the patients achieved pCR. WES data suggested that FBXW7 was more frequently mutated in the pCR group (fisher test p-value = 0.029), and the most significant cytoband loss in the pCR group was 9p21.3 (qval = 0.001). Differences in TMB, MSI, and mutational signatures were not significant between groups. Combined transcriptomics and proteomics analysis revealed that type I interferon signaling pathways and RIG-I-like receptor signaling pathways(p<0.05) were enriched in non-pCR tumors. Esophageal cancer cohort RNA-seq data from TCGA verified the correlation between the genetic variances (FBXW7 mutation and 9p21.3 loss) and the decreased expression of type I interferon signaling pathway genes. In TME analysis, tolerogenic dendritic cells and exhausted T cell signatures were significantly enriched in non-pCR tumors, indicating an immunosuppressive status in treatment resistant patients. Based on proteomics PPI network and differential expression genes from RNA-seq data, a biomarker panel consisted of 12 proteins predictive of non-pCR tumors was identified: STAT1, EIF2AK2, MX1, BST2, TRIM21, SAMHD1, IFI44L, GBP1, PARP14, ISG15, IFIT3, and HLA-B. The expression of selected genes was validated by mIHC in an independent cohort. CONCLUSION Through a multiomics approach, we described the biological characteristics of ESCC with distinct responses to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy and proposed a panel of 12 proteins as predictive biomarkers for non-pCR patients.

Abstract
Bats are a crucial component within ecosystems, providing valuable ecosystem services such as pollination and pest control. In practical conservation efforts, the classification and identification of bats are essential in order to develop effective conservation management programs for bats and their habitats. Traditionally, the identification of bats has been a manual and time-consuming process. With the development of artificial intelligence technology, the accuracy and speed of identification work of such fine-grained images as bats identification can be greatly improved. Bats identification relies on the fine features of their beaks and faces, so mining the fine-grained information in images is crucial to improve the accuracy of bats identification. This paper presents a deep learning-based model designed for the rapid and precise identification of common horseshoe bats (Chiroptera: Rhinolophidae: Rhinolophus) from Southern China. The model was developed by utilizing a comprehensive dataset of 883 high-resolution images of seven distinct Rhinolophus species which were collected during surveys conducted between 2010 and 2022. An improved EfficientNet model with an attention mechanism module is architected to mine the fine-grained appearance of these Rhinolophus. The performance of the model beat other classical models, including SqueezeNet, AlexNet, VGG16_BN, ShuffleNetV2, GoogleNet, ResNet50 and EfficientNet_B0, according to the predicting precision, recall, accuracy, F1-score. Our model achieved the highest identification accuracy of 94.22% and an F1-score of 0.948 with low computational complexity. Heat maps obtained with Grad-CAM show that our model meets the identification criteria of the morphology of Rhinolophus. Our study highlights the potential of artificial intelligence technology for the identification of small mammals, and facilitating fast species identification in the future.

Abstract
Wildfires are thought to be increasing in severity and frequency as a result of climate change1-5. Air pollution from landscape fires can negatively affect human health4-6, but human exposure to landscape fire-sourced (LFS) air pollution has not been well characterized at the global scale7-23. Here, we estimate global daily LFS outdoor fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and surface ozone concentrations at 0.25° × 0.25° resolution during the period 2000-2019 with the help of machine learning and chemical transport models. We found that overall population-weighted average LFS PM2.5 and ozone concentrations were 2.5 µg m-3 (6.1% of all-source PM2.5) and 3.2 µg m-3 (3.6% of all-source ozone), respectively, in 2010-2019, with a slight increase for PM2.5, but not for ozone, compared with 2000-2009. Central Africa, Southeast Asia, South America and Siberia experienced the highest LFS PM2.5 and ozone concentrations. The concentrations of LFS PM2.5 and ozone were about four times higher in low-income countries than in high-income countries. During the period 2010-2019, 2.18 billion people were exposed to at least 1 day of substantial LFS air pollution per year, with each person in the world having, on average, 9.9 days of exposure per year. These two metrics increased by 6.8% and 2.1%, respectively, compared with 2000-2009. Overall, we find that the global population is increasingly exposed to LFS air pollution, with socioeconomic disparities.

Abstract
MicroRNA (miRNA) profiles vary with the nutritional and pathological conditions of cattle. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of inulin supplement on miRNA profiles derived from serum extracellular vesicles (EVs). Our goal was to determine the differences in miRNA expressions and analyse the pathways in which they are involved. Based on the results of California mastitis test and milk somatic cell counts, ten lactating cows with subclinical mastitis were randomly divided into two groups: an inulin group and a control group (n = 5 in each group). The inulin group received a daily supplement of 300 g of inulin while the control group did not receive any supplementation. After a 5-week treatment period, serum-derived EV-miRNAs from each cow were isolated. High-throughput sequencing was conducted to identify differentially expressed miRNAs. GO and KEGG bioinformatics analysis was performed to examine the target genes of these differentially expressed miRNAs. The EV-RNA concentration and small RNA content were not affected by the inulin treatment. A total of 162 known miRNAs and 180 novel miRNAs were identified from 10 samples in the two groups. Among the known miRNAs, 23 miRNAs were found to be differentially expressed between the two groups, with 18 upregulated and five downregulated in the inulin group compared to the control group. Pathway analysis revealed the involvement of these differentially expressed miRNAs in the regulation of cell structure and function, lipid oxidation and metabolism, immunity and inflammation, as well as digestion and absorption of nutrients. Overall, our study provides a molecular-level explanation for the reported beneficial health effects of inulin supplementation in cows with subclinical mastitis.

Abstract
Objective: To understand the genotype distribution and transmission pattern of rubella virus (RuV) circulating in Yunnan Province. Methods: Throat swab samples were collected from rubella outbreaks and sporadic cases in nine prefectures/cities of Yunnan Province from 2011 to 2021. Virus isolation, amplification of target genes and sequence determination were performed on the RuV-positive samples. The genotypes and lineages of Yunnan strains were determined by comparing them with the reference strains, and further phylogenetic analysis was performed with Yunnan strains and strains circulating in other provinces of China during the same period. Results: RuV circulating in Yunnan province during 2011-2021 showed significant genetic diversity, and three lineages, 1E-L1, 2B-L1 and 1E-L2, were detected. Two lineage-switches were also identified, including the conversion of 1E-L1 to 2B-L1 between 2012 and 2013, and the replacement of 2B-L1 to 1E-L2 after 2018. The time of the switches was basically consistent with the outbreak in Yunnan province in 2012 and the time of the rubella reemergence and epidemic between 2018 and 2019. The amino acid sequence of RuV virus strains in Yunnan province was highly conserved, and no important functional regions were changed. Conclusions: The transmission pattern of RuV in Yunnan province is generally consistent with the epidemic trend of RuV in other provinces of China.

Abstract
In this work, we extracted proteins from white quinoa cultivated in the northeast of Qinghai-Tibet plateau using the method of alkaline solubilization and acid precipitation, aiming to decipher how extraction pH (7-11) influenced extractability, purity and recovery rate, composition, multi-length scale structure, and gelling properties of quinoa protein isolate (QPI). The results showed that protein extractability increased from 39 to 58% with the increment of pH from 7 to 11 whereas protein purity decreased from 89 to 82%. At pH 7-11, extraction suspensions and QPI showed the similar major bands in SDS-PAGE with more minor ones (e.g., protein fractions at > 55 or 25-37 kDa) in suspensions. Extraction pH had limited effect on the secondary structure of QPI. In contrast, the higher-order structures of QPI were significantly affected, e.g., (1) emission maximum wavelength of intrinsic fluorescence increased with extraction pH; (2) surface hydrophobicity and the absolute value of zeta-potential increased with increasing extraction pH from 7 to 9, and then markedly decreased; (3) the particle size decreased to the lowest value at pH 9 and then increased to the highest value at pH 11; and (4) denaturation temperature of QPI had a large decrease with increasing extraction pH from 7/8 to 9/10. Besides, heat-set QPI gels were formed by loosely-connected protein aggregates, which were strengthened with increasing extraction pH. This study would provide fundamental data for industrial production of quinoa protein with desired quality.

Abstract
Li-rich Mn-based oxide cathodes (LMOs) are regarded as one of the most prospective high energy density cathodes due to the reversible anion redox reaction, which gives them a very high capacity. However, LMOs materials usually have problems like low initial coulombic efficiency (ICE) and poor cycling performance during cycling, which are associated with irreversible surface O2 release and unfavourable electrode/electrolyte interface side reactions. Herein, an innovative and scalable NH4Cl-assisted gas-solid interfacial reaction treatment technique is employed to construct oxygen vacancies and spinel/layered heterostructures simultaneously on the surface of LMOs. The synergistic effect of the oxygen vacancy and the surface spinel phase can not only effectively enhance the redox properties of the oxygen anion and inhibit irreversible oxygen release, but also effectively mitigate the side reactions at the electrode/electrolyte interface, inhibit the formation of CEI films and stabilize the layered structure. The electrochemical performance of the treated NC-10 sample improved significantly, showing an increase in ICE from 77.4 % to 94.3 % and excellent rate capability and cycling stability, with a capacity retention of 77.9 % after 400 cycles at 1 C. This oxygen vacancy and spinel phase integration strategy offers an exciting prospect and avenue for improving the integrated electrochemical performance of LMOs.

Abstract
Little is known about the associations between long-term exposure to wildfire-related fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and mortality. We aimed to explore theses associations using the data from the UK Biobank cohort. Long-term wildfire-related PM2.5 exposure was defined as the 3-year cumulative concentrations of wildfire-related PM2.5 within a 10-km buffer surrounding the residential address for each individual. Hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated using the time-varying Cox regression model. We included 492,394 participants aged between 38 and 73 years. We found that after adjusting for potential covariates, a 10 μg/m3 increase of wildfire-related PM2.5 exposure was associated with a 0.4% higher risk of all-cause mortality (HR = 1.004 [95% CI: 1.001, 1.006]) and nonaccidental mortality (HR = 1.004 [95% CI: 1.002, 1.006]), and a 0.5% higher risk of neoplasm mortality (HR = 1.005 [95% CI: 1.002, 1.008]). However, no significant associations were observed between wildfire-related PM2.5 exposure and mortality from cardiovascular, respiratory, and mental diseases. Additionally, no significant modification effects of a series of modifiers were observed. Targeted health protection strategies should be adopted in response to wildfire-related PM2.5 exposure, in order to reduce the risk of premature mortality.

Abstract
A cross-coupling reaction via the dehydrogenative route over heterogeneous solid atomic catalysts offers practical solutions toward an economical and sustainable elaboration of simple organic substrates. The current utilization of this technology is, however, hampered by limited molecular definition of many solid catalysts. Here, we report the development of Cu-M dual-atom catalysts (where M = Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn) supported on a hierarchical USY zeolite to mediate efficient dehydrogenative cross-coupling of unprotected phenols with amine partners. Over 80% isolated yields have been attained over Cu-Co-USY, which shows much superior reactivity when compared with our Cu1 and other Cu-M analogues. This amination reaction has hence involved simple and non-forceful reaction condition requirements. The superior reactivity can be attributed to (1) the specifically designed bimetallic Cu-Co active sites within the micropore for "co-adsorption-co-activation" of the reaction substrates and (2) the facile intracrystalline (meso/micropore) diffusion of the heterocyclic organic substrates. This study offers critical insights into the engineering of next-generation solid atomic catalysts with complex reaction steps.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Exposure to wildfire smoke has been linked with a range of health outcomes. However, to date, evidence is limited for the association between wildfire-specific PM2.5, a primary emission of wildfire smoke, and adverse birth outcomes. OBJECTIVE We aimed to estimate the risk and burden of preterm birth/term low birth weight, associated with maternal exposure to wildfire-specific PM2.5. METHODS A total of 330,884 birth records with maternal information were collected from the New South Wales Australia from 2015 to 2019, covering 523 residential communities. Daily wildfire-specific PM2.5 at a 0.25° × 0.25° (≈ 25 km × 25 km) resolution was estimated by a machine learning method combining 3-D chemical transport model (GEOS-Chem) and reanalysis meteorological data. Cox proportional hazards models were implemented to evaluate the association between wildfire-specific PM2.5 and preterm birth/term low birth weight. Number and fraction of preterm birth/term low birth weight attributable to wildfire-specific PM2.5 during pregnancy were calculated. RESULTS Per one interquartile-range rise in wildfire-specific PM2.5 was found to be associated with 6.9% (HR: 1.069, 95% CI: 1.058-1.081) increased risk of preterm birth and 3.6% (HR: 1.036, 95% CI: 1.014-1.058) higher risk of term low birth weight. The most susceptible gestational window was the 2nd trimester for preterm birth whereas the 1st for term low birth weight. We estimated that 14.30% preterm births and 8.04% term low birth weight cases were attributable to maternal exposure to wildfire-specific PM2.5 during the whole pregnancy. Male infants and mothers aged ≥ 40, experiencing temperature extremes or living in the inner region, and concepted during spring had higher risks of preterm birth/term low birth weight associated with wildfire-specific PM2.5. Comparatively, mothers with advanced age have a higher risk of preterm birth while younger mothers were more likely to deliver term newborns with low birth weight, when being exposed to wildfire-specific PM2.5. Pregnancy-induced hypertension enhanced the risk of preterm birth associated with wildfire-specific PM2.5. CONCLUSIONS This study strengthened robust evidence on the enhanced risk of preterm birth/term low birth weight associated with maternal exposure to wildfire-specific PM2.5. In light of higher frequency and intensity of wildfire occurrences globally, more special attention should be paid to pregnant women by policy makers.

Abstract
Background The incidence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) continues to rise rapidly among Canadian children. The care of children results in higher direct healthcare costs than adults with IBD. It is imperative that we identify individuals who will become the highest-cost users of the health system in order to intervene early and decrease the individual- and system-level burden of IBD. Purpose To develop a predictive-model for high-cost health system users and (2) identify factors associated with high-cost healthcare use. Method Incident cases of IBD diagnosed ≤17y residing in Ontario and enrolled in the Canadian Children IBD Network (CIDsCaNN) between Dec 31 2013 and Jan 31 2019 were linked deterministically using health card number to health administrative data. Using a validated algorithm, direct healthcare costs accumulated between the 31st and 365th day after diagnosis were calculated using data from CIDsCaNN (medications) and health administrative data (health system encounters, including surgery). A predictive model was created to determine high-cost (≤25th percentile) and medium-cost (26th to 75th) users, compared to low-cost users (>75th) using ordinal logistic regression. Potential predictive variables were determined a priori based on clinical significance and magnitude of univariable association, based on sample size-informed degrees of freedom. Variables from CIDsCaNN data included: IBD type, age at diagnosis, sex, first line of therapy (steroids, aminosalicylates, exclusive enteral nutrition; yes or no, not mutually exclusive), disease activity (severe vs. moderate vs. none/mild based on PUCAI [UC] or wPCDAI [Crohn’s]). Predictive variables from the health administrative data included: rural/urban residence, hospitalization at diagnosis, intestinal resection or colectomy within 3 months of diagnosis, emergency department visit ±1 month of diagnosis, and a mental health encounter within the first year following diagnosis. Anti-TNF treatment was excluded from models due to the strong correlation with the outcome (direct costs). Overall model fit was estimated with a c-statistic. Result(s) Among the 487 (57% Crohn’s) children included in the study, the mean (sd) direct costs accumulated between the 31st and 365th days following IBD diagnosis was $14,451 (14,665). The mean cost among high-cost users was $33,533 (16,530); medium-cost users, $11,038 (5322); low-cost users, $2530 (831). The predictive model identified high-cost users of the health system with acceptable model fit (c-statistic 0.69). Conclusion(s) The direct healthcare costs of pediatric IBD are substantial. Children with IBD who become high-cost users of the health system were identifiable using characteristics at diagnosis (e.g., need for mental health care, emergency visits, older age). Abstract
PURPOSE Patients with tumor-induced osteomalacia (TIO) often suffer from irreversible height loss due to vertebral deformity. However, the prevalence of vertebral deformity in TIO patients varies among limited studies. In addition, the distribution and type of vertebral deformity, as well as its risk factors, remain unknown. This study aimed to identify the prevalence, distribution, type and risk factors for vertebral deformity in a large cohort of TIO patients. METHODS A total of 164 TIO patients were enrolled in this retrospective study. Deformity in vertebrae T4-L4 by lateral thoracolumbar spine radiographs was evaluated according to the semiquantitative method of Genant. Bone microstructure was evaluated by trabecular bone score (TBS) and high-resolution peripheral QCT (HR-pQCT). RESULTS Ninety-nine (99/164, 60.4%) patients had 517 deformed vertebrae with a bimodal pattern of distribution (T7-9 and T11-L1), and biconcave deformity was the most common type (267/517, 51.6%). Compared with patients without vertebral deformity, those with vertebral deformity had a higher male/female ratio, longer disease duration, more height loss, lower serum phosphate, higher bone turnover markers, lower TBS, lower areal bone mineral density (aBMD), lower peripheral volumetric BMD (vBMD) and worse microstructure. Lower trabecular vBMD and worse trabecular microstructure in the peripheral bone and lower spine TBS were associated with an increased risk of vertebral deformity independently of aBMD. After adjusting for the number of deformed vertebrae, we found little difference in clinical indexes among the patients with different types of vertebral deformity. However, we found significant correlations of clinical indexes with the number of deformed vertebrae and the spinal deformity index. CONCLUSION We reported a high prevalence of vertebral deformity in the largest cohort of TIO patients and described the vertebral deformity in detail for the first time. Risk factors for vertebral deformity included male sex, long disease duration, height loss, abnormal biochemical indexes and bone impairment. Clinical manifestation, biochemical indexes and bone impairment were correlated with the number of deformed vertebrae and degree of deformity, but not the type of deformity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Short-term exposure to ambient PM2·5 is a leading contributor to the global burden of diseases and mortality. However, few studies have provided the global spatiotemporal variations of daily PM2·5 concentrations over recent decades. METHODS In this modelling study, we implemented deep ensemble machine learning (DEML) to estimate global daily ambient PM2·5 concentrations at 0·1° × 0·1° spatial resolution between Jan 1, 2000, and Dec 31, 2019. In the DEML framework, ground-based PM2·5 measurements from 5446 monitoring stations in 65 countries worldwide were combined with GEOS-Chem chemical transport model simulations of PM2·5 concentration, meteorological data, and geographical features. At the global and regional levels, we investigated annual population-weighted PM2·5 concentrations and annual population-weighted exposed days to PM2·5 concentrations higher than 15 μg/m3 (2021 WHO daily limit) to assess spatiotemporal exposure in 2000, 2010, and 2019. Land area and population exposures to PM2·5 above 5 μg/m3 (2021 WHO annual limit) were also assessed for the year 2019. PM2·5 concentrations for each calendar month were averaged across the 20-year period to investigate global seasonal patterns. FINDINGS Our DEML model showed good performance in capturing the global variability in ground-measured daily PM2·5, with a cross-validation R2 of 0·91 and root mean square error of 7·86 μg/m3. Globally, across 175 countries, the mean annual population-weighted PM2·5 concentration for the period 2000-19 was estimated at 32·8 μg/m3 (SD 0·6). During the two decades, population-weighted PM2·5 concentration and annual population-weighted exposed days (PM2·5 >15 μg/m3) decreased in Europe and northern America, whereas exposures increased in southern Asia, Australia and New Zealand, and Latin America and the Caribbean. In 2019, only 0·18% of the global land area and 0·001% of the global population had an annual exposure to PM2·5 at concentrations lower than 5 μg/m3, with more than 70% of days having daily PM2·5 concentrations higher than 15 μg/m3. Distinct seasonal patterns were indicated in many regions of the world. INTERPRETATION The high-resolution estimates of daily PM2·5 provide the first global view of the unequal spatiotemporal distribution of PM2·5 exposure for a recent 20-year period, which is of value for assessing short-term and long-term health effects of PM2·5, especially for areas where monitoring station data are not available. Abstract
Radioactivity levels of 210Pb and 226Ra were measured to evaluate the bioturbation coefficients and mixing depths in one sediment core collected from the polymetallic nodule area inside the Clarion-Clipperton Zone (CCZ), a contract area of the China Ocean Mineral Resources Association (COMR) in the eastern Pacific Ocean. With a steady-state diffusion mode, the bioturbation coefficient and mixing depth of the sediment core were estimated to be 81.5 cm2/a and 51.3 cm, respectively, higher than that of the sediment core from the previous results from abyssal or global areas, which may be attributed to the distribution of total organic carbon (TOC) abundance. In addition, the transport flux of TOC from the surface layer to the deep layer were evaluated to be 1.15 mmol/(cm2·a), resulting in 83,200 tons of carbon buried annually into the sediment in the CCZ, indicating that a potential carbon sink will be disturbed with future exploration.

Abstract
Recent studies have revealed that the Kerivoula depressa complex should be divided into two species, K. depressa distributed mainly in Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, and K. dongduongana found only in the Annamite Mountains of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. In November 2018 and April 2019, 24 woolly bats were collected by two-band harp traps in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, China. Based on morphological, morphometric, and phylogenetic (COI, Cytb, and RAG2 gene sequences) analyses, these bats were identified as K. depressa and K. dongduongana, representing two new species records for the country. Including the new records, six Kerivoula species have been recorded in China, namely K. depressa, K. dongduongana, K. furva, K. kachinensis, K. picta and K. titania. To facilitate their identification and biological research in the future, we have provided an up-to-date key to all Kerivoula species occurring in China.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to combine voxel-based morphometry, deformation-based morphometry, and surface-based morphometry to analyze gray matter volume and cortex shape in classical trigeminal neuralgia patients. METHODS This study included 79 classical trigeminal neuralgia patients and age- and sex-matched 81 healthy controls. The aforementioned three methods were used to analyze brain structure in classical trigeminal neuralgia patients. Spearman correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation of brain structure with the trigeminal nerve and clinical parameters. RESULTS The bilateral trigeminal nerve was atrophied, and the ipsilateral trigeminal nerve volume was smaller than the contralateral volume in the classical trigeminal neuralgia. The gray matter volume of Temporal_Pole_Sup_R and Precentral_R was found to be decreased using voxel-based morphometry. The gray matter volume of Temporal_Pole_Sup_R had a positive correlation with disease duration and a negative correlation with the cross-section area of the compression point and the quality-of-life score in trigeminal neuralgia. The gray matter volume of Precentral_R was negatively correlated with the ipsilateral volume of the trigeminal nerve cisternal segment, cross-section area of compression point, and visual analogue scale. The gray matter volume of Temporal_Pole_Sup_L was found to be increased using deformation-based morphometry and had a negative correlation with the self-rating anxiety scale. The gyrification of the middle temporal gyrus_L increased and the Postcentral_L thickness decreased, as detected using surface-based morphometry. CONCLUSIONS The gray matter volume and cortical morphology of pain-related brain regions were correlated with clinical and trigeminal nerve parameters. voxel-based morphometry, deformation-based morphometry, and surface-based morphometry complemented each other in analyzing the brain structures of patients with classical trigeminal neuralgia and provided a basis for studying the pathophysiology of classical trigeminal neuralgia.

Abstract
CRISPR/Cas9 system has been applied as an effective genome-targeting technology. By fusing deaminases with Cas9 nickase (nCas9), various cytosine and adenine base editors (CBEs and ABEs) have been successfully developed that can efficiently induce nucleotide conversions and install pathogenic single nucleotide variants (SNVs) in cultured cells and animal models. However, the applications of BEs are frequently limited by the specific protospacer adjacent motif (PAM) sequences and protein sizes. To expand the toolbox for BEs that can recognize novel PAM sequences, we cloned a Cas9 ortholog from Streptococcus sinensis (named as SsiCas9) with a smaller size and constructed it into APOBEC1- or APOBEC3A-composed CBEs and TadA or TadA*-composed ABEs, which yield high editing efficiencies, low off-targeting activities, and low indel rates in human cells. Compared to PAMless SpRY Cas9-composed BE4max, SsiCas9-mediated BE4max displayed higher editing efficiencies for targets with "NNAAAA" PAM sequences. Moreover, SsiCas9-mediated BE4max induced highly efficient C-to-T conversions in the mouse Ar gene (R841C) to introduce a human androgen resistance syndrome-related mutation (AR R820C) in early mouse embryos. Thus, we developed novel BEs mediated by SsiCas9, expanded the toolbox for base conversions, and broadened the range of editable genomes in vitro and in vivo.

Abstract
Previous studies had shown that there is a certain relationship between mathematics self-efficacy and math performance. For students, parents, and front-line scholars, it is urgent and important to study the measurement relationship between math achievement and self-efficacy. The research aimed to observe how to measure mathematics self-efficacy and find which of the three traits and which of the three methods better reflect individuals' self-efficacy. The present study used a multitrait-multimethod (MTMM) design to measure mathematics self-efficacy by constructing the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) model. "Number and Algebra," "Graphics and Geometry," and "Synthesis and Practice" were considered three traits, and General-Math-Task-referenced self-efficacy, Unconventional-Math-Problem-referenced self-efficacy, and Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) self-efficacy were discussed as three methods to study. A questionnaire survey was used to obtain data. A total of 100 students completed all the questionnaires. Excel was used to collect math scores, and SPSS version 26.0 and AMOS version 26.0 were used to manage the data, confirm a hypothesis, and build a model by using MTMM design and CFA. CFA was used to verify convergent validity and discriminant validity. A total of eight models were constructed in the study that includes first-order CFA models and second-order CFA models, and model D was finally selected as the most perfect model in the second-order CFA model. The results showed that the "Synthesis and Practice" fields were the most significant reflection of self-efficacy among the three traits. MSLQ was the most significant reflection of self-efficacy among the three methods. It is beneficial to improve the level of self-efficacy from the aspect of mathematics subject. In addition, the research confirmed that CFA can support MTMM data for data modeling and found that the correlation between the Unconventional-Math-Problem-referenced self-efficacy and MSLQ is higher than that of General-Math-Task-referenced self-efficacy in the second-order model. It makes certain theoretical significance for improving students' mathematics self-efficacy levels.

Herein, we aimed to investigate whether serum A20 levels were associated with disease severity, delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI), and outcome after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). METHODS In this prospective cohort study containing 112 aSAH patients and 112 controls, serum A20 levels were quantified. At 90 d poststroke, Modified Rankin Scale (MRS) scores ≥3 were defined as a poor outcome. All correlations and associations were assessed using multivariate analysis. RESULTS Compared with controls, there was a significant elevation of serum A20 levels in patients (median 123.7 pg/mL vs. 25.8 pg/mL; P<0.001). Serum A20 levels were independently correlated with Hunt-Hess scores (β 9.854; 95% confidence interval [95% CI] 2.481-17.227, P=0.009) and modified Fisher scores (β 10.349, 95% CI 1.273-19.424, P=0.026). Independent associations were found between serum A20 levels and poor outcome (odds ratio [OR] 1.015, 95% CI 1.000-1.031, P=0.047) and DCI (OR 1.018, 95% CI 1.001-1.035, P=0.042). Areas under the curve for predicting poor outcome and DCI were 0.771 (95% CI 0.682-0.845) and 0.777 (95% CI 0.688-0.850), respectively. Serum A20 levels ≥128.15 pg/mL predicted poor outcome, with a sensitivity of 73.9% and specificity of 74.2%, and A20 levels ≥160.55 pg/mL distinguished the risk of DCI with 65.5% sensitivity and 89.2% specificity. Its ability to predict poor outcome and DCI was similar to those of Hunt-Hess scores and modified Fisher scores (both P>0.05). CONCLUSION Enhanced serum A20 levels are significantly associated with stroke severity and poor clinical outcome after aSAH, implying that serum A20 may be a potential prognostic biomarker for aSAH.

Abstract
Periodontitis comprises a series of inflammatory responses resulting in alveolar bone loss. The suppression of osteogenesis of periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) by inflammation is responsible for impaired alveolar bone regeneration, which remains an ongoing challenge for periodontitis therapy. Ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase L1 (UCHL1) belongs to the family of deubiquitinating enzymes, which was found to play roles in inflammation previously. In this study, the upregulation of UCHL1 was identified in inflamed PDLSCs isolated from periodontitis patients and in healthy PDLSCs treated with tumor necrosis factor-α or interleukin-1β, and the higher expression level of UCHL1 was accompanied with the impaired osteogenesis of PDLSCs. Then UCHL1 was inhibited in PDLSCs using the lentivirus or inhibitor, and the osteogenesis of PDLSCs suppressed by inflammation was rescued by UCHL1 inhibition. Mechanistically, the negative effect of UCHL1 on the osteogenesis of PDLSCs was attributable to its negative regulation of mitophagy-dependent bone morphogenetic protein 2/Smad signaling pathway in periodontitis-associated inflammation. Furthermore, a ligature-induced murine periodontitis model was established, and the specific inhibitor of UCHL1 was administrated to periodontitis mice. The histological results showed increased active osteoblasts on alveolar bone surface and enhanced alveolar bone regeneration when UCHL1 was inhibited in periodontitis mice. Besides, the therapeutic effects of UCHL1 inhibition on ameliorating periodontitis were verified, as indicated by less bone loss and reduced inflammation. Altogether, our study proved UCHL1 to be a key negative regulator of the osteogenesis of PDLSCs in periodontitis and suggested that UCHL1 inhibition holds promise for alveolar bone regeneration in periodontitis treatment.

Abstract
Background NADPH oxidase 2 (NOX2) is highly expressed in injured brain tissues. We determined serum NOX2 levels of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) patients and further investigated correlation of serum NOX2 levels with disease severity, delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) plus prognosis after aSAH. Methods Serum NOX2 levels were measured in 123 aSAH patients and 123 healthy controls. World Federation of Neurological Surgeons scale (WFNS) score and modified Fisher (mFisher) score were utilized to assess disease severity. Modified Rankin scale (mRS) score was used to evaluate the clinical prognosis at 90 days after aSAH. Relations of serum NOX2 levels to DCI and 90-day poor prognosis (mRS score of 3-6) were analyzed using multivariate analysis. Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was built to evaluate the prognostic predictive capability. Results Serum NOX2 levels in aSAH patients, compared with healthy controls, were significantly increased, and were independently correlated with WFNS score, mFisher score and post-stroke 90-day mRS score. Patients with poor prognosis or DCI had significantly higher serum NOX2 levels than other remainders, and serum NOX2 levels independently predicted 90-day poor prognosis and DCI. Serum NOX2 had high prognosis and DCI predictive abilities, and their areas under ROC curve were similar to those of WFNS score and mFisher score. Conclusion Serum NOX2 levels are significantly associated with hemorrhage severity, poor 90-day prognosis and DCI in aSAH patients. Hence, complement NOX2 may serve as a potential prognostic biomarker after aSAH.

Abstract
BACKGROUND α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) exerts anti-inflammatory and brain protective effects. We determined plasma α-MSH concentrations and discovered the relationship between plasma α-MSH concentrations and severity plus clinical outcome after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). METHODS A total of 117 ICH patients and 117 healthy controls were included in this study. Glasgow coma scale (GCS) score and hematoma volume were recorded to assess disease severity. We used Glasgow outcome scale (GOS) score to evaluate the 3-month clinical prognosis. And multivariate analysis was done to discern the relation of plasma α-MSH concentrations to disease severity plus poor prognosis. Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was built to evaluate the prognostic predictive capability. RESULTS Plasma α-MSH concentrations in ICH patients, compared with healthy controls, were significantly decreased (median, 25.37 vs 46.80 pg/ml; P < 0.001), and were independently correlated with GCS score (t = 4.091, P < 0.001). Plasma α-MSH concentrations were highly correlated with GOS scores (ρ = 0.548, P < 0.001), were substantially lower with poor prognosis (GOS scores 1-3) than good prognosis, and efficiently discriminated patients at risk of poor prognosis (AUC ROC, 0.793; 95 % CI: 0.709-0.863). Using Youden method, plasma α-MSH concentrations < 23.63 pg/ml predicted poor prognosis with sensitivity of 72.7 % and specificity of 82.2 %. Alternatively, plasma α-MSH concentrations emerged as an independent predictor of poor prognosis with odds ratio of 0.888 (95 % CI: 0.793-0.995; P = 0.040). CONCLUSION Plasma α-MSH concentrations are significantly associated with disease severity and poor 3-month prognosis in patients with ICH, indicating that plasma α-MSH may serve as a useful potential prognostic biomarker for ICH.
