Abstract
Lymphoma is a common disease in companion animals. While conventional chemotherapy has the potential to induce remission and prolong life, relapse is common and novel treatments are needed to improve outcome. This review discusses recent modifications/adjustments to conventional standard of care therapy for canine and feline lymphoma, options for treatment or relapsed/refractory disease, and cutting-edge immunotherapy and small molecule-based approaches that are in varying stages of regulatory approval.

Abstract
An 8-year-old American Bulldog developed coalescing exophytic bulbous nodules that grew rapidly on the left pinna and a single cutaneous mass on the left flank. Histological examination of the pinnal biopsy by a diagnostic laboratory revealed a densely cellular neoplasm with haphazardly arranged round to spindle cells with high mitotic activity and epitheliotropism. The initial diagnosis was a poorly differentiated malignant neoplasm with differential diagnoses including melanoma, tumour of histiocytic origin and, less likely, a pleomorphic lymphoma. A panel of melanoma immunohistochemical markers and immunolabelling for CD18 were pursued. Neoplastic cells were immunopositive for CD18 but negative for Melan-A, PNL2, TRP-1 and TRP-2, suggestive of a histiocytic tumour or lymphoma. The left ear masses recurred, and more masses developed on the body. The pinnectomized ear was submitted to the University of Missouri Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory. Similar cells were seen and were immunolabelled for CD18 and CD3 but were immunonegative for SOX10, CD79a and CD20. PCR for antigen receptor rearrangements revealed a clonal rearrangement of T-cell receptor gamma. These findings enabled a final diagnosis of epitheliotropic T-cell lymphoma with spindle cell morphology. Lymphoma should be considered as a potential differential diagnosis for cutaneous nodules of spindle cell morphology and lymphocytic immunohistochemical markers should be included in diagnostic panels.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Primary cutaneous lymphoma represents 0.2%-3% of all feline lymphomas, with nonepitheliotropic lymphomas being the most common. In humans and dogs, subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell lymphoma (SPTCL) is a primary nonepitheliotropic lymphoma with a T-cell phenotype developing in the subcutis and often mimicking inflammation. OBJECTIVE The aim of this report is to describe pathological, phenotypical and clonal features of SPTCL in cats. ANIMALS Six cats with SPTCL were included in this study. MATERIALS AND METHODS Skin biopsies were formalin-fixed, routinely processed and stained. Histological and immunohistochemical investigation for anti-CD18, CD204, CD79a, CD20, CD3, FeLVp27and FeLVgp70 and clonality assessment were performed. RESULTS Four male and two female domestic shorthair cats, mean age 11.2 years, developed SPTCL in the abdominal (three), inguinal (two) and thoracic (one) regions. Variably pleomorphic neoplastic lymphoid cells were present in the panniculus in percentages, expanding the septa (six of six) and extending into fat lobules in one of six cats. Tumours were associated with elevated numbers of neutrophils (five of six), lesser macrophages (six of six) and variable necrosis (six of six). Neoplastic cells expressed CD3+ (six of six), with clonal T-cell receptor rearrangement detected in five of six cats. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE This is the first description of SPTCL in cats. Lesions can be confused with panniculitis, leading to delay in diagnosis and therapy. Awareness of this neoplastic disease is relevant to avoid misdiagnoses and to gain greater knowledge about the disease in cats.

Abstract
The loss of the Y chromosome (ChrY), also known as LOY, is a common genetic alteration observed in men. It occurs in non-neoplastic cells as an age-related change as well as in neoplastic cells of various cancer types. While well-documented in humans, LOY has not been extensively studied in non-human mammals. In this study, we developed simple digital PCR-based assays to assess the copy number of ChrY relative to the X chromosome (ChrX) and chromosome 8 (Chr8) to evaluate ChrY numerical alterations in male canine DNA specimens. Using these assays, we analyzed non-neoplastic leukocytes from 162 male dogs without hematopoietic neoplasia to investigate the occurrence of age-related LOY in non-neoplastic leukocytes. Additionally, we examined 101 tumor DNA specimens obtained from male dogs diagnosed with various types of lymphoma and leukemia to determine whether copy number alterations of the ChrY occur in canine hematopoietic cancers. Analysis of the 162 non-neoplastic leukocyte DNA specimens from male dogs of varying ages revealed a consistent ∼1:1 ChrY:ChrX ratio. This suggests that age-related LOY in non-neoplastic leukocytes is rare or absent in dogs. Conversely, a decreased or increased ChrY:ChrX ratio was detected in canine neoplastic leukocytes at varying frequencies across different canine hematopoietic malignancies (P = 0.01, Fisher's exact test). Notably, a higher incidence of LOY was observed in more aggressive cancer types. To determine if this relative LOY to ChrX was caused by changes in ChrY or ChrX, we further analyzed their relative copy numbers using Chr8 as a reference. Loss of ChrX relative to Chr8 was found in 21% (9/41) of B-cell lymphomas and 6% (1/18) of non-T-zone/high-grade T-cell lymphomas. In contrast, a subset (29%, 4/14) of T-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia showed gain of ChrX relative to Chr8. Notably, no relative LOY to Chr8 was detected indolent hematopoietic cancers such as T-zone lymphoma (0/9) and chronic lymphocytic leukemia of B-cell (0/11) and T-cell origins (0/14). However, relative LOY to Chr8 was present in more aggressive canine hematopoietic cancers, with incidences of 24% (10/41) in B-cell lymphoma, 44% (8/18) in non-T-zone/high-grade T-cell lymphoma, and 75% (6/8) in acute leukemia. This study highlights both similarities and differences in LOY between human and canine non-neoplastic and neoplastic leukocytes. It underscores the need for further research into the role of ChrY in canine health and disease, as well as the significance of LOY across various species.

Abstract
Large granular lymphocyte lymphoma (LGLL) is a rare form of lymphoma in dogs. Limited information exists regarding presentation, treatment response, and outcome. The aim of this single-institute, retrospective study was to characterise clinical presentation, biologic behaviour, outcomes, and prognostic factors for dogs with LGLL. Cytologic review was also performed. Sixty-five dogs were included. The most common breed was the Labrador retriever (29.2%), and the most common presenting signs were lethargy (60.0%) and hyporexia (55.4%). The most common primary anatomic forms were hepatosplenic (32.8%) and gastrointestinal (20.7%). Twenty dogs (30.8%) had peripheral blood or bone marrow involvement. Thirty-two dogs were treated with maximum tolerated dose chemotherapy (MTDC) with a response documented in 74.1% of dogs. Dogs ≥7 years, and those with neutropenia or thrombocytopenia at diagnosis had the reduced likelihood of response to treatment. For dogs treated with MTDC median progression-free interval (PFI) was 17 days (range, 0-481), the median overall survival time (OST) 28 days (range, 3-421), and the 6-month and 1-year survival rates were 9.4% and 3.1%, respectively. On multivariable analysis, monocytosis and peripheral blood involvement were significantly associated with shorter PFI and OST. Long-term survival (≥100 days) was significantly associated with intermediate lymphocyte size on cytology. Dogs with LGLL have moderate response rates to chemotherapy but poor overall survival. Additional studies are needed to further evaluate prognostic factors and guide optimum treatment recommendations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Feline large granular lymphocyte (LGL) lymphoma is an aggressive neoplasia characterised by short survival and poor response to chemotherapy. OBJECTIVES In this study, the effect of different chemotherapeutic agents on the growth kinetics of the feline cell line S87, a non-MHC-restricted feline LGL cell line, was investigated. Where possible, IC50 (inhibitory concentration 50) values were determined. The IC50 values of the cell line as lymphoma models can provide clues to the situation in vivo and serve as a basis for studying resistance mechanisms. METHODS Cells were incubated with various concentrations of vincristine, doxorubicin, 4-hydroperoxycyclophosphamide, prednisolone, methotrexate and L-asparaginase for 24 and 48 h, respectively. RESULTS The IC50 values could be determined as 14.57 (7.49-28.32) μg/mL at 24 h incubation and 5.72 (4.05-8.07) μg/mL at 48 h incubation for doxorubicin and 9.12 (7.72-10.76) μg/mL at 24 h incubation and 4.53 (3.74-5.47) μg/mL at 48 h incubation for 4-hydroperpoxycyclophosphamide. Treatment with vincristine and methotrexate resulted in relatively high cell resistance whereas L-asparaginase and prednisolone treatment led to a reduction in cell number compared to control while cell viability was not affected (cytostatic effect). CONCLUSION Overall, the feline LGL cell line S87 proves to be relatively sensitive to doxorubicin and 4-hydroperoxycyclophosphamide and relatively resistant to treatment with vincristine, prednisolone, methotrexate and L-asparaginase. The results of this study can be used for further investigations on resistance mechanisms in feline LGL lymphoma. Doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide can be interpreted as promising candidates for the therapy of feline LGL lymphomas.

Abstract
Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) are immature cells with immunosuppressive properties found in the tumor microenvironment. MDSCs are divided into two major subsets: polymorphonuclear MDSCs (PMN-MDSCs) and monocytic MDSCs (M-MDSCs). Both MDSC subsets contribute to the creation of an immunosuppressive environment for tumor progression. In humans, patients with high levels of MDSCs show worse outcomes for several types of cancers. However, the association between MDSCs and clinical features has rarely been investigated in canine studies. In the present study, we measured the proportion of PMN-MDSCs and M-MDSCs in the peripheral blood and tumor tissue of dogs with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), prostate cancer (PC), transitional cell carcinoma (TCC), lymphoma, and pulmonary adenocarcinoma. Additionally, we examined immunosuppressive ability of PMN-MDSCs and M-MDSCs in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of TCC case on CD4+, CD8+ and interferon-γ+ cells and investigated the relationships of MDSCs with clinical features and outcomes. PMN-MDSCs increased in HCC, PC, TCC, and lymphoma. In contrast, M-MDSCs increased in the TCC. Both PMN-MDSCs and M-MDSCs exhibited immunosuppressive effects on CD8+, CD4+ and interferon-γ+ cells. In dogs with TCC, lymph node metastasis was associated with high level of PMN-MDSCs but not with M-MDSCs. High levels of both PMN-MDSCs and M-MDSCs were related to advanced tumor stage. Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed that high levels of both PMN-MDSCs and M-MDSCs were significantly associated with shorter overall survival. In addition, the Cox proportional hazard regression model showed that M-MDSCs and the tumor stage were independent prognostic factors for TCC. These results suggest that PMN-MDSCs and M-MDSCs may be involved in tumor progression and could be prognostic factors and promising therapeutic targets in dogs with TCC.

Abstract
The standard treatment for canine lymphoma is the CHOP chemotherapy regimen. Proteasome inhibitors have been employed with CHOP for the treatment of human haematological malignancies but remain to be fully explored in canine lymphoma. We identified an association between poor response to CHOP chemotherapy and high mRNA expression levels of proteasomal subunits in a cohort of 15 canine lymphoma patients, and sought to determine the effect of proteasome inhibitors on the viability of a canine B-cell lymphoma cell line (CLBL-1). The aim of this study was to investigate whether proteasome inhibitors sensitize these cells to the CHOP agents doxorubicin, vincristine and cyclophosphamide (as 4-hydroxycyclophosphamide/4-HC). CLBL-1 cells were sensitive to proteasome inhibition by bortezomib and ixazomib. The IC50 of bortezomib was 15.1 nM and of ixazomib was 59.14 nM. Proteasome inhibitors plus doxorubicin had a synergistic effect on CLBL-1 viability; proteosome inhibitors plus vincristine showed different effects depending on the combination ratio, and there was an antagonistic effect with 4-HC. These results may have clinical utility, as proteasome inhibition could potentially be used with a synergizing CHOP compound to improve responsiveness to chemotherapy for canine lymphoma patients.

Abstract
The most commonly utilized protocols to treat lymphoma in cats employ vincristine, cyclophosphamide and prednisone; with additional drugs sometimes used including L-asparaginase and doxorubicin. Medical records were reviewed for 55 cats with alimentary lymphoma treated with a novel multiagent protocol using prednisolone, L-asparaginase, doxorubicin, vinblastine instead of vincristine, a higher dosage of cyclophosphamide and oral procarbazine (VAPC protocol). Outcomes evaluated were response to therapy, toxicity and progression-free survival (PFS). Grade 3 or 4 neutropenia was the most common treatment-related reason for chemotherapy dosage adjustment, occurring in 8 of 52 cats receiving vinblastine, 7 of 55 cats receiving cyclophosphamide and 1 of 40 cats receiving doxorubicin, but febrile neutropenia was identified in only two cats. Of 38 cats receiving chemotherapy for measurable disease, 26 (68.4%) achieved complete response (CR). Three cats achieved a partial response and 9 cats failed to achieve a remission. There were no identified factors influencing whether a cat was likely to achieve CR. For all 55 cats (including those receiving chemotherapy and surgery), median PFS was 184 days with 1, 2 and 3-year survival rates of 35.4%, 26.5% and 26.5%, respectively. On multivariate analysis, 40 cats that achieved CR had a median survival time of 341 days (78 days for PR, 45 days for NR); PFS times were also significantly affected by lymphocyte:monocyte L:M ratio (>3.4 = 700 days vs. ≤3.4 = 126 days) and B-cell versus T-cell phenotype (220 days vs. 42 days, respectively).

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To describe the clinical findings and outcome in hypercalcemic dogs that were diagnosed with T-cell lymphoid neoplasia by bone marrow evaluation. ANIMALS 11 client-owned dogs, identified retrospectively through 2 diagnostic laboratories between 2014 and 2021. CLINICAL PRESENTATION Cases presented with hypercalcemia and lacked overt evidence of lymphoid neoplasia in the blood or nonmedullary tissues. T-cell lymphoid neoplasia was diagnosed once the bone marrow was investigated, using a variable combination of cytology, histology, and flow cytometry. RESULTS The median age at presentation was 5.7 years (range, 4.0 to 8.6 years). All cases were large-breed dogs, and 4 of 11 cases were Golden Retrievers. Dogs presented most commonly for polyuria and polydipsia (72%). Eight cases had neutropenia, and 10 of 11 dogs had reported thrombocytopenia. In all cases, flow cytometry identified an expansion of neoplastic small- to intermediate-sized T cells in the bone marrow that expressed low-class-II major histocompatibility complex. Neoplastic T cells in 10 of 11 cases expressed CD4. Treatments ranged from prednisone alone to multiagent chemotherapy. The median overall survival time was 260 days (range, 25 to 792 days). CLINICAL RELEVANCE T-cell lymphoid neoplasia diagnosed via bone marrow evaluation that may represent a unique bone marrow T-cell neoplastic entity should be considered in hypercalcemic dogs with isolated cytopenias that lack peripheral lymphocytosis, lymphadenopathy, and organomegaly. Clinical outcome in these cases was variable, which may be related to nonstandardized treatments, but a subset of patients had prolonged survival.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Lymphoma is a common neoplasm in horses but is reported much less commonly in donkeys. In this case report, we describe the macroscopic, microscopic and immunohistochemical features of a multicentric lymphoma with intestinal and bone marrow involvement. CASE PRESENTATION A geriatric female donkey with history of chronic lameness was found dead. Post-mortem examination revealed advanced emaciation, periodontal disease, left front foot laminitis and multiple, soft, white to yellow tan intestinal transmural masses, up to 12 cm in diameter. Cytology suggested a round cell intestinal neoplasm. The femur of the left hint limb was double the size of the normal contralateral, with suspected neoplastic infiltration and replacement of bone marrow and bone. Histologically we diagnosed a lymphoma in the intestine and left femur. Immunohistochemically, the neoplastic cells showed CD3 immunolabelling, supporting a diagnosis of a multicentric T-cell lymphoma. CONCLUSIONS To the authors' knowledge, this is the first time multicentric lymphoma is diagnosed in donkeys. Further studies of the genetic background, clinical, laboratory, histopathologic, and immunohistochemical, as well as the pathogenesis of lymphoma, is needed to better understand the uniquely low frequency of this neoplasm in donkeys.

Abstract
Differentiating intestinal T-cell lymphoma from chronic enteropathy (CE) in endoscopic samples is often challenging. In the present study, automated machine learning systems were developed to distinguish between the two diseases, predict clonality, and detect prognostic factors of intestinal lymphoma in cats. Four models were created for four experimental conditions: experiment 1 to distinguish between intestinal T-cell lymphoma and CE; experiment 2 to distinguish large cell lymphoma, small cell lymphoma, and CE; experiment 3 to distinguish granzyme B+ lymphoma, granzyme B- lymphoma, and CE; and experiment 4 to distinguish between T-cell receptor (TCR) clonal population and TCR polyclonal population. After each experiment, a pathologist reviewed the test images and scored for lymphocytic infiltration, epitheliotropism, and epithelial injury. The models of experiments 1-4 achieved area under the receiver operating characteristic curve scores of 0.943 (precision, 87.59%; recall, 87.59%), 0.962 (precision, 86.30%; recall, 86.30%), 0.904 (precision, 82.86%; recall, 80%), and 0.904 (precision, 81.25%; recall, 81.25%), respectively. The images predicted as intestinal T-cell lymphoma showed significant infiltration of lymphocytes and epitheliotropism than CE. These models can provide evaluation tools to assist pathologists with differentiating between intestinal T-cell lymphoma and CE.

Abstract
Dogs diagnosed with multicentric lymphoma often relapse following induction therapy within the first year of treatment. The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the tolerability of a novel drug combination using melphalan, vincristine, and cytarabine (MOC) for the treatment of relapsed lymphoma. On day 1, dogs were treated with vincristine (0.5-0.6 mg/m2 IV) and cytarabine (300 mg/m2 IV over 4-6 hr or subcutaneously over 2 days). On day 7, dogs were treated with melphalan (20 mg/m2per os). This 2 wk protocol was repeated for at least three cycles or until treatment failure. Twenty-six dogs were treated with MOC and met the inclusion criteria. Twenty-three dogs had toxicity data, and all experienced adverse events with the majority graded as mild. The overall response rate was 38%, which included 19% of dogs who achieved a complete response. The median progression-free survival was 29 days (range 1-280 days). The overall clinical benefit was 65% for a median of 37 days (range 33-280 days). MOC is a safe treatment option for relapsed lymphoma in dogs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hypercalcemia of malignancy (HM) secondary to lymphoma in dogs has the potential to cause renal injury. HYPOTHESIS/OBJECTIVES Characterize outcomes related to acute kidney injury (AKI) secondary to HM. We hypothesized that dogs do suffer AKI regardless of HM severity at the time of lymphoma diagnosis or relapse. ANIMALS Retrospective study. Twenty-nine dogs with lymphoma, HM, and azotemia (International Renal Interest Society [IRIS] grade II or higher AKI) that underwent chemotherapy were identified at 2 veterinary institutions. METHODS Logistic regression and descriptive statistical analysis were performed to evaluate data for potential prognostic factors. RESULTS After initiating treatment, resolution of hypercalcemia and azotemia occurred in 100% (29/29) and 79.3% (23/29) of dogs, respectively. Resolution of azotemia was influenced by serum creatinine concentration (odds ratio [OR], 0.148; Confidence interval [CI], 0.03-0.734; P = .02) and total hypercalcemia (OR, 0.36; CI, 0.14-0.93; P = .04) at diagnosis, whereas blood urea nitrogen concentration, IRIS grade, sex, and whether or not dogs were hospitalized were not significant factors. At data analysis, 13.8% (4/29) of dogs were alive or lost to follow-up. Of those dead, 4 dogs (15%) had renal disease at the time of death, 2/4 having concurrent lymphoma progression. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL IMPORTANCE Although AKI may be of clinical concern in dogs with HM secondary to lymphoma at diagnosis, death secondary to renal impairment appears to be infrequent.

Abstract
A 3-year-old spayed female Rottweiler dog was brought to a veterinary clinic because of weakness, lethargy, and hair coat changes. Hematology and clinical chemistry assessments revealed anemia, hypoalbuminemia, hyperglobulinemia, and hypothyroid. After persistent pyuria, an ultrasound-guided cystocentesis was completed, which revealed a large abdominal mass. A presumptive diagnosis of canine lymphoma with renal spread was made. Due to a poor prognosis, the dog was euthanized.

Abstract
Two shih tzu dogs were referred to our clinic because of hematochezia and vomiting. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed a focal, asymmetric, exophytic small intestinal mass with loss of wall layering and muscular layer thickening of the adjacent intestine. Computed tomography (CT) in both dogs revealed a focal, asymmetric, homogenously contrast-enhanced exophytic jejunal and duodenal mass with an intact mucosal layer and generalized lymphadenopathy. Metastasis and ulceration were not detected on CT. The initial imaging diagnosis was lymphoma in both dogs; however, histopathological examination revealed the presence of intestinal mast cell tumors (iMCTs). Despite its similarity to alimentary lymphoma, iMCT should be considered a possible diagnosis, based on imaging characteristics, to ensure that proper treatments are selected. This is the first veterinary report describing detailed ultrasonographic and CT characteristics of iMCTs. Key clinical message: This is the first veterinary case report demonstrating sonographic and computed tomographic features of canine iMCT, which can be misdiagnosed as alimentary lymphoma. This report provides another differential diagnosis to consider when determining the appropriate patient treatment direction and histopathological examination.

Abstract
Increased or constitutive activation of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kB) is a feature of many chronic disease processes, including cancer. While NF-kB overactivation has been documented extensively in human oncology, there is a relative paucity of data documenting the same phenomenon in veterinary medicine. To assess NF-kB activity, antibodies to p65 and p100/p52, which are components of NF-kB heterodimers, were first validated for specificity and canine cross-reactivity via Western blot and labeling of immortalized cell pellets. Then, nuclear labeling for these antibodies was assessed via QuPath software in over 200 tumor tissue samples (10 hemangiosarcomas, 94 histiocytic sarcomas, 71 lymphomas, and 28 mast cell tumors) and compared to immunolabeling in appropriate normal tissue counterparts. Greater than 70% of spontaneous canine tumors evaluated in this study had more nuclear p65 and p100/p52 immunoreactivity than was observed in comparable normal cell populations. Specifically, 144/204 (70.58%) of tumors evaluated had positive p65 nuclear labeling and 179/195 (91.79%) had positive p100/p52 nuclear labeling. Surprisingly, greater nuclear p100/p52 reactivity was associated with a longer progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) in canine lymphomas. These results provide support and preliminary data to investigate the role of NF-kB signaling in different types of canine cancer.

Abstract
Few reports are available describing lesions in captive electric eels Electrophorus spp. This report describes 2 types of cutaneous proliferative lesions (i.e. hamartoma and neoplasm) in a captive electric eel. Ampullary electroreceptor hamartomas appeared grossly as 2 discrete, smooth, pink, spherical, cutaneous masses measuring 6 and 18 mm in diameter. Histologically, hamartomas were composed of predominately spindle cells that were separated into lobules by a peripheral rim of polygonal cells. Spindle cells were arranged in vague streams and occasionally whorls within a myxomatous matrix. Polygonal cells arranged in variably sized trabeculae and cords within a pre-existing fibrovascular stroma surrounded the streams of spindle cells. Admixed with the polygonal cell population were multiple mucous glands and alarm cells, similar to those seen in normal regions of epidermis. Histochemical stains confirmed similar components in the normal ampullary electroreceptor as in the hamartomas. Lymphoma was also present, appearing grossly as patchy pitting, erythematous, and thickened areas of the skin affecting the entire animal. Lymphoma was diffusely infiltrating and expanding the epidermis, oral mucosa, and branchial mucosa up to 1.5 mm in thickness. It was composed of an unencapsulated, well-demarcated, moderately cellular neoplasm composed of lymphocytes arranged in small dense sheets and clusters that separated and effaced epidermal cells. This is the first report of lymphoma in an electric eel, and the first report of ampullary electroreceptor hamartoma in any animal species.

Abstract
B-cell leukemia is a rare form of hematologic neoplasia in sheep, especially in adult animals. We present a case report of a 5-year-old WhiteFace Sheep wether with suspected acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The patient, a second-generation relative of ewes experimentally inoculated with atypical scrapie, exhibited acute lethargy and loss of appetite. Laboratory investigation revealed marked leukocytosis, lymphocytosis, and abnormal serum chemistry panel results. Microscopic examination of blood and bone marrow smears exhibited a high percentage of large neoplastic cells with lymphoid characteristics. Histopathologic analysis of the spleen, liver, lungs, and other organs confirmed the presence of widespread tissue infiltration by neoplastic cells. Immunohistochemical labeling demonstrated strong intracytoplasmic labeling for CD20, consistent with B-cell neoplasia. Flow cytometric analysis confirmed the B-cell lineage of the neoplastic cells. Screening for bovine leukemia virus, which can experimentally cause leukemia in sheep, yielded a negative result. In this case, the diagnosis of B-cell leukemia was supported by a comprehensive panel of diagnostic evaluations, including cytology, histopathology, immunohistochemistry, and immunophenotyping. This case report highlights the significance of accurate diagnosis and classification of hematologic neoplasia in sheep, emphasizing the need for immunophenotyping to aid in the diagnosis of B-cell leukemia. It also emphasizes the importance of considering spontaneous leukemia as a differential diagnosis in sheep with lymphoid neoplasia, especially in the absence of circulating infectious diseases.

Abstract
Domestic cat hepadnavirus (DCH), a relative hepatitis B virus (HBV) in human, has been recently identified in cats; however, association of DCH infection with lymphoma in cats is not investigated. To determine the association between DCH infection and feline lymphoma, seven hundred and seventeen cats included 131 cats with lymphoma (68 blood and 63 tumor samples) and 586 (526 blood and 60 lymph node samples) cats without lymphoma. DCH DNA was investigated in blood and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). The FFPE lymphoma tissues were immunohistochemically subtyped, and the localization of DCH in lymphoma sections was investigated using in situ hybridization (ISH). Feline retroviral infection was investigated in the DCH-positive cases. DCH DNA was detected in 16.18% (11/68) (p = 0.002; odds ratio [OR], 5.15; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.33-11.36) of blood and 9.52% (6/63) (p = 0.028; OR, 13.68; 95% CI, 0.75-248.36) of neoplastic samples obtained from lymphoma cats, whereas only 3.61% (19/526) of blood obtained from non-lymphoma cats was positive for DCH detection. Within the DCH-positive lymphoma, in 3/6 cats, feline leukemia virus was co-detected, and in 6/6 were B-cell lymphoma (p > 0.9; OR, 1.93; 95% CI, 0.09-37.89) and were multicentric form (p = 0.008; OR, 1.327; 95% CI, 0.06-31.18). DCH was found in the CD79-positive pleomorphic cells. Cats with lymphoma were more likely to be positive for DCH than cats without lymphoma, and infection associated with lymphoma development needs further investigations.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aims of this study were to describe the clinical presentation, tumour characteristics, responses to chemotherapy protocols and toxicity in a cohort of cats with lymphoma up to 18 months of age. In addition, the probability of long-term (>2 years) survival was explored. MATERIALS AND METHODS The medical records of client-owned cats aged up to 18 months diagnosed with lymphoma between 2008 and 2022 at five UK-based veterinary referral hospitals were reviewed. RESULTS Thirty-three cats were included. The most common anatomical forms were mediastinal (42%), disseminated disease (30%) and renal (15%), with all cats having intermediate to large cell lymphoma. Three out of 29 cats tested were positive for FeLV but none for FIV. Twenty-six cats were treated with multi-agent chemotherapy protocols with complete and partial responses seen in 46% and 50% of cats, respectively. For this group, median progression-free survival was 133 days (95% confidence interval [Cl] 67 to 199) and median survival time was 268 days (95% Cl 106 to 430). Complete response to chemotherapy was associated with a longer progression-free survival. Seven cats were considered long-term survivors (>2 years). Chemotherapy was generally well tolerated with none of the long-term survivors suffering from chronic sequelae from cytotoxic treatment. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Paediatric and juvenile cats with lymphoma showed a high response rate to multi-agent chemotherapy protocols with rare significant toxicities. The presence of long-term survivors may suggest a more favourable outcome in a subset of patients.

Abstract
Histopathological examination of tissue samples is essential for identifying tumor malignancy and the diagnosis of different types of tumor. In the case of lymphoma classification, nuclear size of the neoplastic lymphocytes is one of the key features to differentiate the different subtypes. Based on the combination of artificial intelligence and advanced image processing, we provide a workflow for the classification of lymphoma with regards to their nuclear size (small, intermediate, and large). As the baseline for our workflow testing, we use a Unet++ model trained on histological images of canine lymphoma with individually labeled nuclei. As an alternative to the Unet++, we also used a publicly available pre-trained and unmodified instance segmentation model called Stardist to demonstrate that our modular classification workflow can be combined with different types of segmentation models if they can provide proper nuclei segmentation. Subsequent to nuclear segmentation, we optimize algorithmic parameters for accurate classification of nuclear size using a newly derived reference size and final image classification based on a pathologists-derived ground truth. Our image classification module achieves a classification accuracy of up to 92% on canine lymphoma data. Compared to the accuracy ranging from 66.67 to 84% achieved using measurements provided by three individual pathologists, our algorithm provides a higher accuracy level and reproducible results. Our workflow also demonstrates a high transferability to feline lymphoma, as shown by its accuracy of up to 84.21%, even though our workflow was not optimized for feline lymphoma images. By determining the nuclear size distribution in tumor areas, our workflow can assist pathologists in subtyping lymphoma based on the nuclei size and potentially improve reproducibility. Our proposed approach is modular and comprehensible, thus allowing adaptation for specific tasks and increasing the users' trust in computer-assisted image classification.

Abstract
A mediastinal mass was diagnosed in a 7-year-4-month-old neutered female mixed breed dog following a 3-week history of lethargy, hyporexia and pyrexia. Bi-cavitary imaging, needle aspirate cytology and flow cytometry confirmed WHO clinical stage IVb, intermediate to large T-cell lymphoma involving the mediastinum, liver and spleen. The dog initially responded to a multidrug chemotherapy protocol but clinical deterioration occurred 3 months later. The dog presented with anorexia, vomiting and diarrhoea, associated with marked faecal tenesmus and haematochezia, initially believed by the primary care practitioner to be related to chemotherapy toxicity. However, rectal examination revealed multiple sessile and pedunculated masses. Further diagnostic imaging, cytology and flow cytometry confirmed progressive disease, including T-cell lymphoma of the rectum. Histology and immunohistochemistry confirmed an infiltrate of intermediate-sized CD3-positive neoplastic cells that expanded the rectal mucosa. Rectal lymphoma is uncommon in dogs and previous cases have been B cell in origin. In this report we describe the clinical presentation and macro- and microscopic findings of a case of canine T-cell lymphoma involving the rectum.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study was performed to determine the ability to escalate drug doses in a 15-week CHOP protocol in dogs with multicentric lymphoma. HYPOTHESIS We hypothesized that at least 50% of dogs could successfully be escalated in at least 1 drug. Secondary aims were to establish objective response rate (ORR), progression-free interval (PFI), and overall survival time (OST). ANIMALS Thirty dogs with newly diagnosed multicentric lymphoma were prospectively treated with a 15-week CHOP protocol. METHODS This was a prospective cohort study. Drug doses that did not cause dose-limiting adverse effects (AEs) were increased using a standardized escalation protocol. AEs and response were assessed using VCOG criteria. Serial blood samples were collected after the first dose of each drug for pharmacokinetic analysis. RESULTS Of the 23 dogs with the opportunity to dose escalate, at least 1 drug was successfully escalated in 18 (78%). Vincristine was successfully escalated to 0.8 mg/m2 or higher in 11 dogs, cyclophosphamide to 300 mg/m2 or higher in 16 dogs, and doxorubicin to 35 mg/m2 or 1.4 mg/kg or higher in 9 dogs. Three of the 23 dogs (13%) were hospitalized at least once because of drug-induced AEs. Neutropenia was the most common dose-limiting toxicosis for all drugs. Peak doxorubicin concentrations were significantly lower in dogs where doxorubicin was successfully escalated. The objective response rate was 100%. The median progression free interval was 171 days. The median overall survival time was 254 days. CONCLUSIONS Drugs in the CHOP protocol can often be escalated safely with manageable AEs.

Abstract
A 3-year-old male neutered mixed breed dog was presented for chronic vomiting and diarrhea. Abdominal ultrasound revealed a large amorphous, heterogeneous mass within the left mid to caudal abdomen most consistent with medial iliac lymph node. It appeared to invade the left ureter and extend distally causing ureteral obstruction and hydronephrosis. Concurrent additional ultrasound findings were consistent with metastatic or multicentric neoplasia. Fine needle aspirates of the lymph node and spleen both confirmed large cell lymphoma. These findings present evidence of lymphoma invading directly from an organ into the ureter which has not previously been reported in dogs.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION In this case report we present a feline large granular lymphocyte (LGL) lymphoma, a rare morphologically distinct subtype of lymphoma, in a twelve-year-old female spayed domestic short hair cat, with high suspicion of leptomeningeal lymphomatosis due to magnetic resonance imaging findings and results of cerebral spinal fluid analyses. Diagnosis of LGL lymphoma was confirmed by means of blood cytology and polymerase chain reaction for antigen receptor rearrangements.

Abstract
This retrospective analytical observational cohort study aimed to model and predict the classification of feline intestinal diseases from segmentations of a transverse section from small intestine ultrasound (US) image, complete blood count (CBC), and serum biochemical profile data using a variety of machine-learning approaches. In 149 cats from three institutions, images were obtained from cats with biopsy-confirmed small cell epitheliotropic lymphoma (lymphoma), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), no pathology ("healthy"), and other conditions (warrant a biopsy for further diagnosis). CBC, blood serum chemistry, small intestinal ultrasound, and small intestinal biopsy were obtained within a 2-week interval. CBC and serum biomarkers and radiomic features were combined for modeling. Four classification schemes were investigated: (1) normal versus abnormal; (2) warranting or not warranting a biopsy; (3) lymphoma, IBD, healthy, or other conditions; and (4) lymphoma, IBD, or other conditions. Two feature selection methods were used to identify the top 3, 5, 10, and 20 features, and six machine learning models were trained. The average (95% CI) performance of models for all combinations of features, numbers of features, and types of classifiers was 0.886 (0.871-0.912) for Model 1 (normal vs. abnormal), 0.751 (0.735-0.818) for Model 2 (biopsy vs. no biopsy), 0.504 (0.450-0.556) for Model 3 (lymphoma, IBD, healthy, or other), and 0.531 (0.426-0.589), for Model 4 (lymphoma, IBD, or other). Our findings suggest model accuracies above 0.85 can be achieved in Model 1 and 2, and that including CBC and biochemistry data with US radiomics data did not significantly improve accuracy in our models.

Abstract
Background Canine lymphoma is one of the most commonly reported hematopoietic tumors. Aim A few retrospective studies have involved complex evaluations including diagnostic features and treatment protocols, but these studies infrequently demonstrate variable factors that affect survival time, and comparisons among chemotherapeutic protocols are limited. This study aimed to identify prognostic factors that can be simply detected in dogs with lymphoma, such as abnormalities in physical and hematologic findings, and treatment protocols. Methods Clinical records of 77 dogs diagnosed with lymphoma were retrospectively reviewed. Results The author newly identified leukocyte and platelet abnormalities as negative prognostic factors. Furthermore, this study suggests that decreased gastrointestinal toxicity and improvements of hematologic abnormalities, such as anemia, thrombocytopenia, and lymphocytosis or lymphoblasts, in peripheral blood during chemotherapy act as positive prognostic factors. Finally, strict adherence to therapeutic protocol and selecting multiple agents as rescue protocol are important to prolong survival time. Conclusion This study identified indicators to be used as prognostic factors through survival analysis.

Abstract
Multi-agent chemotherapy successfully induces remission in most naïve, high-grade canine lymphoma patients; however, disease recurrence is common. MOPP (mechlorethamine, vincristine, procarbazine, and prednisone) is an effective rescue protocol used to re-induce remission, but is associated with gastrointestinal toxicity and can be a less desirable option for patients that previously failed vincristine-containing protocols. Therefore, alternative members of the vinca alkaloid family, such as vinblastine, could be potentially advantageous as substitutes for vincristine to reduce gastrointestinal toxicity and chemoresistance. The objective of this study was to report the clinical outcomes and toxicity of 36 dogs with relapsed or refractory multicentric lymphoma treated with a modified MOPP protocol whereby vincristine was replaced with vinblastine (MVPP). The overall response rate to MVPP was 25% with a median progression free survival of 15 days and a median overall survival of 45 days. MVPP at the prescribed doses resulted in modest and transient clinical benefit, but was well tolerated with no treatment delays or hospitalizations secondary to side effects. Given the minimal toxicity, dose intensification could be considered to improve clinical responses.

Abstract
A 5.5-year-old spayed female cane corso dog was presented for recurrent hematuria and dysuria. Abdominal ultrasound demonstrated severe hypoechoic urinary bladder wall thickening with irregular mucosal surface and polypoid-like lesions protruding into the lumen, abdominal polyadenomegaly, and splenic honeycombing. High-grade lymphoma was diagnosed on urinary bladder wall cytology. Clinical signs and ultrasonographic findings initially improved following a modified CHOP-based chemotherapy protocol, but the multicentric lymphoma then progressed with thoracic spread, leading to the dog's death at 9 wk post-diagnosis. Key clinical message: This case report describes the ultrasonographic features of malignant lymphomatous infiltration of the urinary bladder and emphasizes the importance of including lymphoma in the differential diagnosis for parietal urinary bladder lesions. It also describes the endoscopic findings of such an infiltration that have not yet, to the authors' knowledge, been described or illustrated in the veterinary literature. Finally, this case report underlines the poor prognosis of multicentric lymphoma involving the urinary bladder, with rapid progression of the disease and short survival time despite chemotherapy.

Abstract
A 3-year-old intact male African pygmy hedgehog was presented at the Teaching Hospital of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Belgrade, with a growth on the left side of its abdomen. After clinical examination, the mass was surgically removed, and histopathological findings indicated a nerve sheath tumor. The hedgehog fully recovered after surgery and was euthanized eight months later due to the appearance of multicentric changes in the internal organs. Further necropsy and macroscopic, cytologic, histopathologic, and immunohistochemical findings revealed that the tumor was a multicentric high-grade T-cell lymphoma. This is an unusual case of an African pygmy hedgehog with two different neoplasms-a nerve sheath tumor followed by lymphoma.

Abstract
Canine lymphoma is the most common cancer in dogs and has a poor prognosis. We recently found that the endocytosis inhibitor dynasore suppresses the viability of human cancer cell lines, especially hematopoietic cancers, by inducing apoptosis. In the present study, we examined the anticancer effects of dynasore on five previously established canine lymphoma cell lines (CLBL-1, Ema, Nody-1, CLC, and GL-1). Dynasore suppressed cell viability in these canine lymphoma cell lines more effectively than in human cancer cell lines. It also induced apoptosis in CLBL-1 and Ema cells but not in peripheral blood mononuclear cells in healthy dogs or in Madin-Darby canine kidney (MDCK) cells, suggesting that the ability of dynasore to induce apoptosis is cancer-specific. Furthermore, dynasore induced a DNA damage response in CLBL-1 and Ema cells, suggesting that it acts as a genotoxic agent in canine lymphoma cell lines. These findings suggest that endocytosis inhibitors may provide a new anticancer treatment for canine lymphoma.

Abstract
The incidence of feline gastrointestinal (GI) lymphoma has recently increased. Serum amyloid A (SAA) levels are elevated in feline lymphoma. However, no reports have evaluated SAA concentrations and outcomes in feline GI lymphoma. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical utility of SAA and other factors in feline GI lymphoma to assess the outcomes with potential differences. The study included 39 client-owned cats diagnosed with GI lymphoma, which were divided into two groups: high- and low-grade lymphomas. Changes in SAA concentration, complete blood count (CBC), and biochemical profiles were analyzed at the time of initial presentation as well as on days 1, 28, and 56. Differences between the two groups were investigated. High-grade lymphoma was observed in 17 cats, whereas 22 cats showed low-grade lymphoma. SAA concentrations on the day of initial presentation were significantly higher in low-grade lymphoma than those in high-grade lymphoma (median, 12.4 µg/mL; range, 4.8-46.5 µg/mL vs. 3.8 µg/mL; 3.8-13.7 µg/mL; P=0.011). Elevated SAA concentration on day 56 in high-grade GI lymphoma was a poor prognostic factor. (Hazard Ratio=1.012, per 1 µg/mL increase; 95% confidence interval; 1.004-1.020, P=0.002). The SAA concentration on the day of initial presentation did not serve as a suitable prognostic factor and did not depend on the grade or stage of the lymphoma. However, continuous SAA concentration measurement may be useful for predicting the outcome of feline GI lymphoma.

Abstract
A 21-year-old Quarter Horse mare presented with a chronic, progressively worsening left pelvic limb lameness of 3 weeks duration. The initial examination identified a consistent lameness at a walk. Neurological examination showed sensory and gait abnormalities consistent with left femoral nerve dysfunction. The horse minimally advanced the leg cranially and had a shortened stride length at the walk. During the stance phase, the heels of the left hind foot did not contact the ground and the horse quickly took weight off of the limb. Diagnostic imaging (ultrasound and nuclear scintigraphy) examinations did not reveal a cause. Severe lymphocytosis was identified on complete blood cell count (69,600 cells /uL; reference range: 1,500-4,000 cells/uL), suggestive of lymphoma. Postmortem examination revealed focal swelling of the left femoral nerve. Multiple masses were found in the stomach, large colon, adrenal gland, mesentery, heart, and meninges. The entire left pelvic limb was dissected and did not reveal other causes of the gait deficit. Histologic evaluation of the left femoral nerve revealed disseminated intermediate cell size B cell lymphoma, with an immunophenotype suggestive of plasmacytoid differentiation. These lymphocytes infiltrated the femoral nerve at the location of the focal nerve swelling, in addition to other peripheral nerves. This case highlights a horse with an atypical diagnosis of femoral nerve paresis caused by direct neoplastic lymphocyte infiltration, deriving from disseminated B cell lymphoma with plasmacytoid differentiation (neurolymphomatosis). Though rare, disseminated lymphoma with direct nerve infiltration should be considered in horses with peripheral neuropathies.

Abstract
A 13-year-old, intact male mixed-breed dog was referred to our clinic for lethargy and asthenia following an episode of gastroenteritis. As an incidental finding during abdominal ultrasound, a mass on the right spermatic cord was seen. Cytology of the mass revealed a monomorphic population of large, round cells with a lymphoid appearance. A bilateral orchiectomy was conducted, and histopathology revealed the presence of a B-cell lymphoma in the right spermatic cord. Based on clinical staging, which showed no involvement of other sites, no additional treatment was administered. Recheck evaluations were scheduled for every 3 mo thereafter. Five months after surgery, the dog developed left central vestibular syndrome with a paradoxical right-sided head tilt. An MRI of the brain showed multifocal lesions and, due to a rapidly worsening clinical condition, the dog was humanely euthanized. The histopathology of the brain lesions was consistent with B-cell lymphoma. Key clinical message: This is the first report of a primary spermatic cord lymphoma relapsing to the brain in a dog. Although rare, spermatic cord tumors should be included among the differential diagnoses for masses arising from the spermatic cord. If lymphoma is diagnosed, location to other sites, especially to the central nervous system, should be considered.

Abstract
A 12-y-old castrated male domestic longhaired cat had progressive paraparesis and neurolocalization of L4-S3. MRI revealed a circumscribed intradural-extraparenchymal mass from L5 to S1 that was T2 and short tau inversion recovery hyperintense and strongly contrast-enhancing. Cytologic interpretation of a blind fine-needle aspirate obtained through the L5-L6 space was a tumor of probable mesenchymal origin. A pair of suspect neoplastic cells was seen on a cytocentrifuged preparation of the atlanto-occipital CSF sample, despite a normal nucleated cell count (0 × 106/L) and total protein (0.11 g/L) with only 3 RBCs × 106/L. Clinical signs progressed despite increasing doses of prednisolone and cytarabine arabinoside. Repeat MRI on day 162 demonstrated tumor progression from L4 to Cd2 vertebral segments with intraparenchymal extension. Surgical tumor debulking was attempted, but an L4-S1 dorsal laminectomy revealed diffusely abnormal neuroparenchyma. Intraoperative cryosection favored lymphoma, and the cat was euthanized intraoperatively 163 d following presentation. Postmortem examination was performed, and the final diagnosis was a high-grade oligodendroglioma. This case illustrates the cytologic, cryosection, and MRI features of a unique clinical presentation of oligodendroglioma.

Abstract
A 32-year-old male salmon-crested cockatoo (Cacatua moluccensis) was diagnosed by cytology with bilateral cubital lymphoma and mycobacteriosis. Polymerase chain reaction assay testing confirmed Mycobacterium genavense. This patient was subsequently humanely euthanized. Postmortem histopathology confirmed both diagnoses with findings of multicentric lymphoma, acid-fast bacilli, and severe degenerative changes in all synovial joints examined. Immunohistochemical staining for paired box protein 5 of the cubital mass was positive for a high percentage of B-cell lymphocytes, consistent with B-cell lymphoma. This unusual case of two major diseases presenting concurrently in one patient raises the question of whether the pathogenesis could have an interdependent relationship. Mycobacteriosis, severe degenerative joint changes, or both may have stimulated lymphocytes, eventually leading to lymphoma. Additional screening and monitoring for comorbidities may be advised if 1 of these diseases are diagnosed in companion avian species.

Abstract
The transcription factor hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) is expressed in several cancers under intratumoral hypoxic stress that arises during pathogenic processes, resulting in malignant progression. We previously reported that hypoxic stimulation enhances the growth potential of canine lymphoma cells by activating the HIF-1α signaling pathway. In contrast, evofosfamide (Evo) releases a DNA-alkylating moiety within hypoxic tumor regions, suggesting that Evo could serve as a hypoxia-targeting drug in canine lymphoma. This study aimed to use Evo to evaluate hypoxia-targeted therapy in dogs with gastrointestinal lymphoma (GIL) and investigate how Evo affects antitumor efficacy and adverse events in three type of murine xenograft models using T-cell GIL cells. In vitro tests, the sensitivity to Evo of three T-cell GIL cell lines under hypoxic culture was significantly higher than that under normoxic culture. Our metabolic analysis suggested that the three murine models might have high reproducibility as clinical cases in canine GIL. Our data showed that Evo showed significantly higher tumor growth potential and fewer adverse events in three type of murine models compared to lomustine; CeeNu (CCNU). Additionally, Evo suppressed the expression of HIF-1α protein in tumor tissues, suggesting that it may preferentially target and inhibit tumor cells in a hypoxic region. The evidence presented here supports the favorable preclinical evaluation that Evo may be effective for GIL in dogs.

Abstract
Lymphoma diagnosis in dogs and cats is continually evolving as new subtypes and human correlates are being recognized. In humans, T-cell lymphomas with MUM1 expressed and plasma cell neoplasia or B-cell lymphomas with CD3 expressed aberrantly are reported only rarely. We report here a case series of tumors in dogs and cats with CD3 and MUM1 co-expressed as determined by immunocytochemistry or immunohistochemistry. Lineage was assigned for these tumors by 3 board-certified pathologists and a veterinary immunologist based on review of clinical and cellular features and the results of ancillary testing including PCR for antigen receptor rearrangements, flow cytometry, and serum protein electrophoresis with immunofixation. In cats, 7 of 7 tumors, and in dogs, 3 of 6 tumors with CD3 and MUM1 co-expressed had clonal rearrangement of the immunoglobulin gene or serum monoclonal immunoglobulin, consistent with a diagnosis of a plasma cell neoplasia or myeloma-related disorder with CD3 expressed aberrantly. Disease was often disseminated; notably, 3 of 7 feline cases had cutaneous and/or subcutaneous involvement in the tarsal area. In dogs, 3 of 6 cases had a clonal T-cell receptor gamma result and no clonal immunoglobulin gene rearrangement and were diagnosed as a T-cell tumor with MUM1 expressed. The use of multiple testing modalities in our series of tumors with plasma-cell and T-cell antigens in dogs and cats aided in the comprehensive identification of the lymphoproliferative disease subtype.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to describe the management of cases of suspected and confirmed canine multicentric lymphoma (ML) in first opinion practice (FOP) and investigate whether socioeconomic factors are associated with initial management. METHODS Clinical narratives from electronic health records collected by the Small Animal Veterinary Surveillance Network (SAVSNET) were searched to identify dogs with peripheral lymphadenomegaly in which ML was the major differential. Cases were grouped as either ML confirmed (ML-C) or ML suspected but not confirmed (ML-S). Associations between initial management and socioeconomic factors were assessed via multivariable logistic regression. RESULTS Two hundred and sixty-four cases with ML-C and 410 with ML-S were identified. There was an increased probability that owners of ML-C cases resided in less deprived areas. Moreover, a diagnosis was made more commonly in insured dogs. Only insured pets were more likely to be treated with chemotherapy following diagnosis. The majority of dogs in both groups were treated with corticosteroids alone (ML-S, n = 256/410; ML-C, n = 123/264). A small minority were referred (n = 30/674). CONCLUSION Socioeconomic inequalities appear to be associated with the diagnosis and management of dogs with suspected or confirmed ML in FOP. Most dogs with suspected multicentric lymphoma (in the UK) are managed in FOP (n = 644/674). Consequently, expanding the knowledge base relevant to this setting offers an opportunity to improve the management of canine lymphoma.

Abstract
Rabacfosadine (Tanovea CA1®) ist ein neues Chemotherapeutikum, das in den USA zur intravenösen Behandlung des caninen Lymphoms konditionell zugelassen ist. Bisher liegen verschiedene klinische Untersuchungen vor, die die Wirksamkeit dieses neuen Zytostatikums allein oder in Kombination mit beispielsweise L-Asparaginase beim therapienaiven oder refraktären Lymphom des Hundes evaluieren. Daten aus einer randomisiert vergleichenden Studie, die die Wirksamkeit von Tanovea-CA1 im Vergleich zum Plazebo oder anderen Therapieprotokollen beschreiben liegen bisher noch nicht vor. Ziel dieser Studie war es daher die Effektivität von Tanovea-CA1 beim Lymphom des Hundes randomisiert im Vergleich zu einer Plazebobehandlung zu untersuchen.

Abstract
Lymphadenopathy is a common clinical concern in dogs. Causes of lymphadenopathy include neoplasia, infection, and immune-mediated diseases. Seasonal infectious diseases should be considered as a potential cause of lymphadenopathy in endemic regions, such as the Mediterranean region. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the causes of peripheral lymph node enlargement in dogs in a Mediterranean region (north‑eastern Spain). In addition, we aimed to assess the relationship between peripheral lymphadenopathy and other clinical data. Medical records of dogs admitted to two referral hospitals in Barcelona (Spain) with peripheral lymphadenopathy and cytological evaluation of lymph nodes, during a 4-year period (2015 to 2019) were included. One hundred and thirty dogs met the inclusion criteria. The most common final clinical diagnoses were lymphoproliferative neoplasia (36%) and dermatological disease (18.4%), followed by vector borne infectious disease (VBID; 16.5%). In the VBID group, 19 dogs were positive for Leishmania infantum and two dogs were positive for heartworm antigen. The presence of lymphadenopathy as the only clinical sign, generalized peripheral lymphadenopathy and internal lymphadenopathy was more frequent in dogs with lymphoma. The patients with metastatic neoplasms had significantly more localized lymphadenopathy compared to the other diagnosis groups. Twenty percent of the dogs had fever and this was more frequent in the immunemediated disease group. Our findings suggest that lymphoma is the most likely cause of lymphadenopathy in dogs. Clinicians should consider lymphoproliferative neoplasia in dogs with general peripheral lymphadenopathy concurrent with internal (abdominal or thoracic) lymphadenopathy and without other clinical signs. A higher incidence of immune-mediated disease was found in the population of febrile dogs included in this study.

Abstract
C-C chemokine receptor 7 (CCR7) contributes to cell homing to lymph nodes (LNs). Recent studies reported that CCR7 is also expressed in tumor cells, which correlates with LN metastasis in various cancers. However, the expression of CCR7 in tumor cells is unknown in dogs due to the lack of appropriate antibodies. In the present study, a fusion protein of C-C chemokine ligand 19 (CCL19) was employed as an alternative method to CCR7 antibodies. The fusion CCL19 protein specifically detected CCR7 expressed in canine lymphoma cell lines, which showed active chemotaxis to both canine and mouse ligands. The present study will help further research on the involvement of canine CCR7 in LN metastasis.

Abstract
Background: Feline large granular lymphocyte lymphoma (LGLL) is a grave prognosis. However, the effectiveness of concurrent treatment with chemotherapy and activated lymphocyte therapy for feline LGLL has not been evaluated. Case Description: A 7-year-old, castrated male, domestic cat presented with gastrointestinal symptoms and an abdominal mass. A Tru-Cut biopsy of the mass revealed LGLL. The cat responded well to chemotherapy regimens of cyclophosphamide, vincristine, prednisolone, and L-asparaginase. Furthermore, activated lymphocyte therapy was added as an adjuvant treatment. The cat survived 982 days from the first presentation and experienced few adverse events. Necropsy was performed and immunohistochemistry revealed that the neoplastic lymphocytes were CD3−/CD20− cells. The final diagnosis was non-T/B LGLL. Conclusion: Minimal physical burden and a good initial response to chemotherapy might have contributed to long-term survival in the present case. Moreover, activated lymphocyte therapy could be performed safely and may be a feasible treatment for feline non-T/B LGLL.

Abstract
Abnormal DNA methylation is involved in the initiation and progression of lymphoid tumors. Hence, DNA demethylating agents are promising candidate drugs for chemotherapy against these tumors. The salicylic acid derived anti-inflammatory agent, olsalazine, reportedly suppresses DNA methyltransferase in human cells and has the potential to be clinically applied as a DNA demethylating agent. In this study, we investigated the effects of olsalazine on cell proliferation and DNA methylation using canine lymphoid tumor cell lines (CLBL-1, GL-1, and UL-1). Treatment with olsalazine led to significant cell growth inhibition and increased the apoptotic rate in all three cell lines. Treatment with olsalazine reduced the total amount of 5-methylcytosine in genomic DNA, as assessed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Genome-wide analysis of DNA methylation revealed that 1,801 to 5,626 CpG sites showed decreased DNA methylation levels in three cell lines, including the promoter regions of ADAM23, FES, and CREB3L1 genes. The outcomes of the present study demonstrate that a DNA demethylating agent olsalazine, inhibits cell proliferation and DNA methylation in canine lymphoid tumor cells, suggesting that it can be a candidate drug for the treatment of lymphoid tumors in dogs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In dogs, hepatic lymphoma is characterized by neoplastic lymphocyte infiltration into the liver. Reports on the computed tomography (CT) findings of the liver for canine hepatic lymphoma are few, with only one study of multiple liver lesions type. OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to retrospectively assess the CT findings of the liver in canine diffuse hepatic lymphoma. METHODS As control, five dogs without abnormalities in the liver were included. CT data were analysed, and the following were noted: presence of edge bluntness of the liver, presence of periportal collar sign, the liver size:body weight (BW) ratio and the mean attenuation of liver lesions on pre-contrast, arterial-phase, portal-phase and equilibrium-phase post-contrast images. RESULTS On CT examination, edge bluntness of the liver was significantly detected in lymphoma (4/5, 80%), as opposed to the control (0/5, 0%) (p = 0.048, φ = 0.82). The periportal collar sign was detected in lymphoma (3/5, 60%), as opposed to the control (0/5, 0%) (p = 0.17, φ = 0.65). The liver size:BW ratio of lymphoma cases was significantly higher compared to that of the control cases (p = 0.0002, r = 0.92). The mean Hounsfield unit of lymphoma cases in the pre-contrast, arterial-phase, portal-phase and equilibrium-phase images were significantly lower than in the control cases (p = 0.005, r = 0.81; p = 0.0003, r = 0.91; p = 0.01, r = 0.75 and p = 0.02, r = 0.71, respectively). CONCLUSIONS Hepatic lymphoma should be a differential for a blunted and enlarged liver with hypoattenuation on CT examination.

Abstract
Treatment of neoplastic diseases in companion animals is one of the most important problems of modern veterinary medicine. Given the growing interest in substances of natural origin as potential anti-cancer drugs, our goal was to examine the effectiveness of benzyl isothiocyanate (BITC), a compound found in cruciferous vegetables, against canine lymphoma and leukemia. These are the one of the most common canine cancer types, and chemotherapy is the only treatment option. The study involved established cell lines originating from various hematopoietic malignancies: CLBL-1, GL-1, CLB70 and CNK-89, immortalized noncancerous cell lines: MDCK and NIH-3T3 and canine peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). The cytotoxic activity of BITC, apoptosis induction, caspase activity and ROS generation were evaluated by flow cytometry. H2AX phosphorylation was assessed by western blot. The study showed that the compound was especially active against B lymphocyte-derived malignant cells. Their death resulted from caspase-dependent apoptosis. BITC induced ROS accumulation, and glutathione precursor N-acetyl-l-cysteine reversed the effect of the compound, thus proving the role of oxidative stress in BITC activity. In addition, exposure to the compound induced DNA damage in the tested cells. This is the first study that provides information on the activity of BITC in canine hematopoietic malignancies and suggests that the compound may be particularly useful in B-cell neoplasms treatment.
