Abstract
South and Southeast Asia (SSA) emitted black carbon (BC) exerts potential effects on glacier and snow melting and regional climate change in the Tibetan Plateau. In this study, online BC measurements were conducted for 1 year at a remote village located at the terminus of the Mingyong Glacier below the Meili Snow Mountains. The Weather Research and Forecasting model coupled with Chemistry (WRF-Chem) was used to investigate the contribution and potential effect of SSA-emitted BC. In addition, variations in the light absorption characteristics of BC and brown carbon (BrC) were examined. The results indicated that the annual mean concentration of BC was 415 ± 372 ngm-3, with the highest concentration observed in April (monthly mean: 930 ± 484 ngm-3). BC exhibited a similar diurnal variation throughout the year, with two peaks observed in the morning (from 8:00 to 9:00 AM) and in the afternoon (from 4:00 to 5:00 PM), with even lower values at nighttime. At a short wavelength of 370 nm, the absorption coefficient (babs) reached its maximum value, and the majority of babs values were < 20 Mm-1, indicating that the atmosphere was not overloaded with BC. At the same wavelength, BrC substantially contributed to babs, with an annual mean of 25.2 % ± 12.8 %. SSA was the largest contributor of BC (annual mean: 51.1 %) in the study area, particularly in spring (65.6 %). However, its contributions reached 20.2 % in summer, indicating non-negligible emissions from activities in other regions. In the atmosphere, the SSA BC-induced radiative forcing (RF) over the study region was positive. While at the near surface, the RF exhibited a significant seasonal variation, with the larger RF values occurring in winter and spring. Overall, our findings highlight the importance of controlling BC emissions from SSA to protect the Tibetan Plateau against pollution-related glacier and snow cover melting.

Abstract
This study investigates the nitrogen removal efficacy and microbial community dynamics in seawater aquaculture effluent treatment using three different substrate combinations of microscale laboratory aerated filters (MFs) - MF1 (LECA), MF2 (LECA/Fe-C), and MF3 (LECA/Pyrite). The findings indicated that the COD removal exceeded 95% across all MFs, with higher removal efficiencies in MF2 and MF3. In terms of nitrogen removal performance, MF2 exhibited the highest average nitrogen removal of 93.17%, achieving a 12.35% and 3.56% increase compared to MF1 (80.82%) and MF3 (89.61%), respectively. High-throughput sequencing analysis revealed that the Fe-C substrate significantly enhanced the diversity of the microbial community. Notably, in MF2, the salinophilic denitrifying bacterium Halomonas was significantly enriched, accounting for 42.6% of the total microbial community, which was beneficial for nitrogen removal. Moreover, an in-depth analysis of nitrogen metabolic pathways and microbial enzymes indicated that MF2 and MF3 possessed a high abundance of nitrification and denitrification enzymes, related to the high removal rates of NH4+-N and NO3--N. Therefore, the combination of LECA with iron-based materials significantly enhances the nitrogen removal efficiency from mariculture wastewater.

Abstract
Recently, high-entropy alloys have superior physicochemical properties as compared to conventional alloys for their glamorous "cocktail effect". Nevertheless, they are scarcely applied to electrochemical immunoassays until now. Herein, uniform PtRhMoCoFe high-entropy alloyed nanodendrites (HEANDs) were synthesized by a wet-chemical co-reduction method, where glucose and oleylamine behaved as the co-reducing agents. Then, a series of characterizations were conducted to illustrate the synergistic effect among multiple metals and fascinating structural characteristics of PtRhMoCoFe HEANDs. The obtained high-entropy alloy was adopted to build a electrochemical label-free biosensor for ultrasensitive bioassay of biomarker cTnI. In the optimized analytical system, the resultant sensor exhibited a dynamic linear range of 0.0001-200 ng mL-1 and a low detection limit of 0.0095 pg mL-1 (S/N = 3). Eventually, this sensing platform was further explored in serum samples with satisfied recovery (102.0 %). This research renders some constructive insights for synthesis of high-entropy alloys and their expanded applications in bioassays and bio-devices.

Abstract
Carbonaceous aerosols play an important role in radiative forcing in the remote and climate-sensitive Tibetan Plateau (TP). However, the sources of carbonaceous aerosols to the TP remain poorly defined, in part due to the lack of regionally relevant data about the sources of carbonaceous aerosols. To address this knowledge gap, we present the first comprehensive analysis of the δ13C signatures of carbonaceous aerosol endmembers local to the TP, encompassing total carbon, water-insoluble particle carbon, and elemental carbon originating from fossil fuel combustion, biomass combustion, and topsoil. The δ13C signatures of these local carbonaceous endmembers differ from components collected in other regions of the world. For instance, fossil fuel-derived aerosols from the TP were 13C-depleted relative to fossil fuel-derived aerosols reported in other regions, while biomass fuel-derived aerosols from the TP were 13C-enriched relative to biomass fuel-derived aerosols reported in other regions. The δ13C values of fine-particle topsoil in the TP were related to regional variations in vegetation type. These findings enhance our understanding of the unique features of carbonaceous aerosols in the TP and aid in accurate source apportionment and environmental assessments of carbonaceous aerosols in this climate-sensitive region.

Abstract
For cationic nanoparticles, the spontaneous nanoparticle-protein corona formation and aggregation in biofluids can trigger unexpected biological reactions. Herein, we present a biomimetic strategy for camouflaging the cationic peptide/siRNA nanocomplex (P/Si) with single or dual proteins, which exploits the unique properties of endogenous proteins and stabilizes the cationic P/Si complex for safe and targeted delivery. An in-depth study of the P/Si protein corona (P/Si-PC) formation and protein binding was conducted. The results provided insights into the biochemical and toxicological properties of cationic nanocomplexes and the rationales for engineering biomimetic protein camouflages. Based on this, the human serum albumin (HSA) and apolipoprotein AI (Apo-AI) ranked within the top 20 abundant protein species of P/Si-PC were selected to construct biomimetic HSA-dressed P/Si (P/Si@HSA) and dual protein (HSA and Apo-AI)-dressed P/Si (P/Si@HSA_Apo), given that the dual-protein camouflage plays complementary roles in efficient delivery. A branched cationic peptide (b-HKR) was tailored for siRNA delivery, and their nanocomplexes, including the cationic P/Si and biomimetic protein-dressed P/Si, were produced by a precise microfluidic technology. The biomimetic anionic protein camouflage greatly enhanced P/Si biostability and biocompatibility, which offers a reliable strategy for overcoming the limitation of applying cationic nanoparticles in biofluids and systemic delivery.

Abstract
Through a comprehensive investigation into the historical profiles of black carbon derived from ice cores, the spatial distributions of light-absorbing impurities in snowpit samples, and carbon isotopic compositions of black carbon in snowpit samples of the Third Pole, we have identified that due to barriers of the Himalayas and remove of wet deposition, local sources rather than those from seriously the polluted South Asia are main contributors of light-absorbing impurities in the inner part of the Third Pole. Therefore, reducing emissions from residents of the Third Pole themselves is a more effective way of protecting the glaciers of the inner Third Pole in terms of reducing concentrations of light-absorbing particles in the atmosphere and on glaciers.

Abstract
Carbonaceous particles play a crucial role in atmospheric radiative forcing. However, our understanding of the behavior and sources of carbonaceous particles in remote regions remains limited. The Tibetan Plateau (TP) is a typical remote region that receives long-range transport of carbonaceous particles from severely polluted areas such as South Asia. Based on carbon isotopic compositions (Δ14C/δ13C) of water-insoluble particulate carbon (IPC) in total suspended particle (TSP), PM2.5, and precipitation samples collected during 2020-22 at the Nam Co Station, a remote site in the inner TP, the following results were achieved: First, fossil fuel contributions (ffossil) to IPC in TSP samples (28.60 ± 9.52 %) were higher than that of precipitation samples (23.11 ± 8.60 %), and it is estimated that the scavenging ratio of IPC from non-fossil fuel sources was around 2 times that from fossil fuel combustion during the monsoon season. The ffossil of IPC in both TSP and PM2.5 samples peaked during the monsoon season. Because heavy precipitation during the monsoon season scavenges large amounts of long-range transported carbonaceous particles, the contribution of local emissions from the TP largely outweighs that from South Asia during this season. The results of the IPC source apportionment based on Δ14C and δ13C in PM2.5 samples showed that the highest contribution of liquid fossil fuel combustion also occurred in the monsoon season, reflecting increased human activities (e.g., tourism) on the TP during this period. The results of this study highlight the longer lifetime of fossil fuel-sourced IPC in the atmosphere than that of non-fossil fuel sources in the inner TP and the importance of local emissions from the TP during the monsoon season. The findings provide new knowledge for model improvement and mitigation of carbonaceous particles.

Abstract
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has attracted much attention worldwide due to its prevalence. In this study, the effect of a solid-in-oil-in-water (S/O/W) emulsion with Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE, a polyphenolic active ingredient in propolis) on dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis in C57BL/6 mice was evaluated. The results showed that CAPE-emulsion could significantly alleviate DSS-induced colitis through its effects on colon length, reduction in the disease activity index (DAI), and colon histopathology. The results of ELISA and Western blot analysis showed that CAPE-emulsion can down-regulate the excessive inflammatory cytokines in colon tissue and inhibit the expression of p65 in the NF-κB pathway. Furthermore, CAPE-emulsion promoted short-chain fatty acids production in DSS-induced colitis mice. High-throughput sequencing results revealed that CAPE-emulsion regulates the imbalance of gut microbiota by enhancing diversity, restoring the abundance of beneficial bacteria (such as Odoribacter), and suppressing the abundance of harmful bacteria (such as Afipia, Sphingomonas). The results of fecal metabolome showed that CAPE-emulsion restored the DSS-induced metabolic disorder by affecting metabolic pathways related to inflammation and cholesterol metabolism. These research results provide a scientific basis for the use of CPAE-emulsions for the development of functional foods for treating IBD.

Abstract
Photothermal immunotherapy is regarded as the ideal cancer therapeutic modality to against malignant solid tumors; however, its therapeutic benefits are often modest and require improvement. In this study, a thermoresponsive nanoparticle (BTN@LND) composed of a photothermal agent (PTA) and pyroptosis inducer (lonidamine) were developed to enhance immunotherapy applications. Specifically, our "two-step" donor engineering strategy produced the strong NIR-II-absorbing organic small-molecule PTA (BTN) that exhibited high NIR-II photothermal performance (ε1064 = 1.51 × 104 M-1 cm-1, η = 75.8%), and this facilitates the diagnosis and treatment of deep tumor tissue. Moreover, the fabricated thermally responsive lipid nanoplatform based on BTN efficiently delivered lonidamine to the tumor site and achieved spatiotemporal release triggered by the NIR-II photothermal effect. In vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated that the NIR-II photothermal therapy (PTT)-mediated on-demand release of cargo effectively faciliated tumor cell pyroptosis, thereby intensifying the immunogenic cell death (ICD) process to promote antitumor immunotherapy. As a result, this intelligent component bearing photothermal and chemotherapy can maximally suppress the growth of tumors, thus providing a promising approach for pyroptosis/NIR-II PTT synergistic therapy against tumors.

Abstract
Achieving the controllable detachment of polysaccharide-based wound dressings is challenging. In this study, a novel, photodetachable salecan-based hydrogel dressing with injectable, self-healing, antibacterial, and wound healing properties was developed using a green and facile approach. A salecan hydrogel with a uniform porous structure and water content of 90.4 % was prepared by simply mixing salecan and an Fe3+-citric acid complexing solution in an acidic D-(+)-glucono-1,5-lactone environment. Metal coordinate interactions were formed between the released Fe3+ ions and carboxyl groups on the salecan polysaccharide, inducing homogeneous gelation. Benefiting from this dynamic and reversible crosslinking, the salecan hydrogel exhibited self-healing and injectable behavior, facilitating the formation of the desired shapes in situ. The exposure of Fe3+-citric acid to UV light (365 nm) resulted in the reduction of Fe3+ to Fe2+ through photochemical reactions, enabling phototriggered detachment. Moreover, the hydrogel exhibited excellent biocompatibility and satisfactory antibacterial efficacy against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus of 72.5 % and 85.3 %, respectively. The adhesive strength of the salecan hydrogel to porcine skin was 1.06 ± 0.12 kPa. In vivo wound healing experiments further highlighted the advantages of the prepared hydrogel in alleviating the degree of wound inflammation and promoting tissue regeneration within 12 days.

Abstract
The rapid development of the economy has led to an increase in the sulfur and nitrogen load in surface water, which has the potential to cause river eutrophication and the emission of malodorous gases. A lab-scale sediment microbial fuel cell coupled with Vallisneria natans (P-SMFC) was designed for surface water remediation. The enhancement of pollutant removal performance of P-SMFC was evaluated in contrast to the SMFC system without plants (SMFC), the open-circuit control system with plants (C-P), and the open-circuit control system without plants (C-S), while illustrating the mechanisms of the sulfur and nitrogen transformation process. The results demonstrated that the effluent and sediment of P-SMFC had lower concentrations of sulfide compared to other systems. Furthermore, P-SMFC exhibited higher removal efficiency for COD (73.1 ± 8.7%), NH4+-N (80.5 ± 19.8%), and NO3--N (88.5 ± 11.8%) compared to other systems. The closed-circuit conditions and growth of Vallisneria natans create a favorable ecological niche for functional microorganisms involved in power generation, sulfur oxidation, and nitrogen transformation. Additionally, metagenomic analysis revealed that multifunctional bacteria possessing both denitrification and sulfur oxidation genes, such as Thiobacillus, Dechloromonas, and Bacillus, may play simultaneous roles in metabolizing sulfur and nitrogen, thus serving as integral factors in maintaining the performance of P-SMFC. In summary, these findings provide a theoretical reference for the concurrent enhancement of sulfur and nitrogen pollutants removal in P-SMFC and will facilitate its practical application in the remediation of contaminated surface water.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We explored whether changes in clinical parameters and inflammatory markers can facilitate early identification of positive blood culture in adult patients with COVID-19 and clinically suspected bloodstream infection (BSI). METHODS This single-center retrospective study enrolled 20 adult patients with COVID-19 admitted to the intensive care unit who underwent blood culture for clinically suspected BSI (February 2020-November 2021). We divided patients into positive (Pos) and negative blood culture groups. Clinical parameters and inflammatory markers were obtained from medical records between blood culture collection and the first positive or negative result and compared between groups on different days. RESULTS Patients in the positive culture group had significantly older age and higher D-dimer, immunoglobulin 6 (IL-6), and Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score as well as lower albumin (ALB). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) was 0.865 for IL-6, D-dimer and ALB on the first day after blood culture collection; the AUC was 0.979 for IL-6, IL-10, D-dimer, and C-reactive protein on the second day after blood culture collection. CONCLUSION Changes in clinical parameters and inflammatory markers after blood culture collection may facilitate early identification of positive culture in adult patients with COVID-19 and clinically suspected BSI.

Abstract
Ocean energy is a kind of clean and renewable energy source, but it cannot be efficiently harvested by traditional electromagnetic generators, due to its low-frequency characteristic. The emergence of triboelectric nanogenerators provides a more promising technology for collecting ocean energy. In this work, a durable roller-based swing-structured triboelectric nanogenerator (RS-TENG) is designed and fabricated for low-frequency water wave energy harvesting. The rolling structure reduces the wear between triboelectric materials and improves the device's durability. After a continuous operation of 1 260 000 cycles, the attenuation of the electrical outputs of the RS-TENG is below 1.6%, exhibiting excellent durability. At the same time, the output current can arrive at 53.2 µA. Under the triggering of water waves, the RS-TENG can generate an output power of 4.27 mW, corresponding to a power density of 1.16 W m-3. After the arraying, the output performance can be doubled, so that the TENG can successfully power an environmental monitoring sensor and ensure long-term stable operation of the sensor. This work provides an effective strategy for improving the device durability, which benefits the practical applications of the TENGs in large-scale blue energy harvesting.

Abstract
The treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains a major challenge in the medical field. Lenvatinib, a multi-target tyrosine kinase inhibitor, has demonstrated anti-HCC effects by targeting and inhibiting pathways such as vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 1-3 (VEGFR1-3). However, the therapeutic efficacy of Lenvatinib is subject to various influences, with the hypoxic microenvironment of the tumor being a pivotal factor. Consequently, altering the hypoxic milieu of the tumor emerges as a viable strategy to augment the efficacy of Lenvatinib. Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α), synthesized by tumor cells in response to oxygen-deprived conditions, regulates the expression of resistance genes, promotes tumor angiogenesis and cell proliferation, enhances tumor cell invasion, and confers resistance to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Thus, we constructed a self-designed siRNA targeting HIF-1α to suppress its expression and improve the efficacy of Lenvatinib in treating HCC. The therapeutic efficacy of siRNA-HIF-1α in combination with Lenvatinib on HCC were evaluated through in vivo and in vitro experiments. The results showed that the recombinant Salmonella delivering siRNA-HIF-1α in combination with Lenvatinib effectively inhibited tumor growth and prolonged the survival of tumor-bearing mice. This treatment approach reduced cell proliferation and angiogenesis in HCC tissues while promoting tumor cell apoptosis. Additionally, this combined therapy significantly increased the infiltration of T lymphocytes and M1 macrophages within the tumor microenvironment, as well as elevated the proportion of immune cells in the spleen, thereby potentiating the host's immune response against the tumor.

Abstract
Purpose: This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of Panax notoginseng saponin (PNS) injection, when combined with conventional treatment (CT), for acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Methods: Comprehensive searches were conducted in seven databases from inception until 28 September 2023. The search aimed to identify relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) focusing on PNS injection in the context of AMI. This meta-analysis adhered to the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, and its protocol was registered with PROSPERO (number: CRD42023480131). Result: Twenty RCTs involving 1,881 patients were included. The meta-analysis revealed that PNS injection, used adjunctively with CT, significantly improved treatment outcomes compared to CT alone, as evidenced by the following points: (1) enhanced total effective rate [OR = 3.09, p < 0.05]; (2) decreased incidence of major adverse cardiac events [OR = 0.32, p < 0.05]; (3) reduction in myocardial infarct size [MD = -6.53, p < 0.05]; (4) lower ST segment elevation amplitude [MD = -0.48, p < 0.05]; (5) mitigated myocardial injury as indicated by decreased levels of creatine kinase isoenzymes [MD = -11.19, p < 0.05], cardiac troponin T [MD = -3.01, p < 0.05], and cardiac troponin I [MD = -10.72, p < 0.05]; (6) enhanced cardiac function, reflected in improved brain natriuretic peptide [MD = -91.57, p < 0.05], left ventricular ejection fraction [MD = 5.91, p < 0.05], left ventricular end-diastolic dimension [MD = -3.08, p < 0.05], and cardiac output [MD = 0.53, p < 0.05]; (7) reduced inflammatory response, as shown by lower levels of C-reactive protein [MD = -2.99, p < 0.05], tumor necrosis factor-α [MD = -6.47, p < 0.05], interleukin-6 [MD = -24.46, p < 0.05], and pentraxin-3 [MD = -2.26, p < 0.05]; (8) improved vascular endothelial function, demonstrated by decreased endothelin-1 [MD = -20.56, p < 0.05] and increased nitric oxide [MD = 1.33, p < 0.05]; (9) alleviated oxidative stress, evidenced by increased superoxide dismutase levels [MD = 25.84, p < 0.05]; (10) no significant difference in adverse events [OR = 1.00, p = 1.00]. Conclusion: This study highlighted the efficacy and safety of adjunctive PNS injections in enhancing AMI patient outcomes beyond CT alone. Abstract
Bone is the most common site of metastasis, and although low proliferation and immunoediting at the early stage make existing treatment modalities less effective, the microenvironment-inducing behaviour could be a target for early intervention. Here we report on a spatiotemporal coupling interaction between tumour cells and osteoclasts, and named the tumour-associated osteoclast 'tumasteoclast'-a subtype of osteoclasts in bone metastases induced by tumour-migrasome-mediated cytoplasmic transfer. We subsequently propose an in situ decoupling-killing strategy in which tetracycline-modified nanoliposomes encapsulating sodium bicarbonate and sodium hydrogen phosphate are designed to specifically release high concentrations of hydrogen phosphate ions triggered by tumasteoclasts, which depletes calcium ions and forms calcium-phosphorus crystals. This can inhibit the formation of migrasomes for decoupling and disrupt cell membrane for killing, thereby achieving early prevention of bone metastasis. This study provides a research model for exploring tumour cell behaviour in detail and a proof-of-concept for behaviour-targeting strategy.

Abstract
AIM To evaluate the diagnostic value of adenohypophyseal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features for precocious puberty (PP) in female children and also to establish a non-invasive diagnostic approach in clinics. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 126 female children (37, 57, and 32 female children clinically diagnosed with central PP [CPP], incomplete PP [IPP], and controls, respectively) were enrolled in this study. Data were collected and analysed using analysis of variance. Pearson correlation and stepwise multivariate linear regression analysis were used to examine the association and build prediction models. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was used to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy. RESULTS The values of adenohypophysis volume (aPV), adenohypophysis height (aPH), and signal-intensity ratio (SIR), height, weight, and seven laboratory testing characteristics were correlated closely with the activation status of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonad axis in the different groups (all p<0.05). Model 1 including aPV, weight, and aPH and Model 2 including SIR, aPV, and height were built to obtain predicted luteinising hormone (LH; R2 = 0.271) and LH/follicle stimulating hormone (FSH; R2 = 0.311). ROC analysis showed the predicted LH, predicted LH/FSH, and aPV were the top 3 best predictors in distinguishing CPP from controls (AUC = 0.969, 0.949, and 0.938) while predicted LH/FSH was the best predictor in distinguishing CPP from IPP and controls (AUC = 0.829 and 0.828). CONCLUSION The adenohypophysis volume itself and the prediction models including main adenohypophyseal MRI features increased diagnostic efficiency for PP and offered a non-invasive and credible diagnostic method.

Abstract
The early evolution of a supernova (SN) can reveal information about the environment and the progenitor star. When a star explodes in vacuum, the first photons to escape from its surface appear as a brief, hours-long shock-breakout flare1,2, followed by a cooling phase of emission. However, for stars exploding within a distribution of dense, optically thick circumstellar material (CSM), the first photons escape from the material beyond the stellar edge and the duration of the initial flare can extend to several days, during which the escaping emission indicates photospheric heating3. Early serendipitous observations2,4 that lacked ultraviolet (UV) data were unable to determine whether the early emission is heating or cooling and hence the nature of the early explosion event. Here we report UV spectra of the nearby SN 2023ixf in the galaxy Messier 101 (M101). Using the UV data as well as a comprehensive set of further multiwavelength observations, we temporally resolve the emergence of the explosion shock from a thick medium heated by the SN emission. We derive a reliable bolometric light curve that indicates that the shock breaks out from a dense layer with a radius substantially larger than typical supergiants.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Redo aortic arch surgery is complex and associated with higher risks and mortality. Prolonged mechanical ventilation (PMV) after cardiac surgery is linked to early adverse outcomes and increased costs. OBJECTIVES Identify specific risk factors and early complications associated with PMV following redo aortic arch surgery. METHODS Retrospective study at Fuwai Hospital involving 203 patients. Data on patient characteristics, intraoperative factors, and outcomes were analyzed. RESULTS A total of 203 patients were included, with 42.4 % requiring PMV. PMV patients had longer ICU stays (P < 0.001), lower discharge ADL scores (P < 0.001), and higher hospitalization costs (P < 0.001). While there was no significant difference in-hospital mortality between the two groups, the long-term survival rate in the PMV group was lower than that in the non-PMV group (P = 0.029). Multivariate analysis identified longer cardiopulmonary bypass time (OR 1.008, 95% CI, 1.002 - 1.014, P = 0.006), elevated intraoperative red blood cell transfusion(OR 1.214, 95% CI, 1.057 - 1.393, P = 0.006), higher PEEP (OR 1.296, 95% CI 1.089 - 1.542, P = 0.003), and total arch replacement (OR 3.241, 95% CI 1.392 - 7.543, P = 0.006) as independent risk factors for PMV. CONCLUSION PMV following redo aortic arch surgery is linked to early adverse outcomes, increased healthcare costs, and reduced long-term survival, with longer cardiopulmonary bypass times, elevated intraoperative red blood cell transfusion, higher PEEP, and total arch replacement as independent risk factors.

Abstract
Magnon transistors that can effectively regulate magnon transport by an electric field are desired for magnonics, which aims to provide a Joule-heating free alternative to the conventional electronics owing to the electric neutrality of magnons (the key carriers of spin-angular momenta in the magnonics). However, also due to their electric neutrality, magnons have no access to directly interact with an electric field and it is thus difficult to manipulate magnon transport by voltages straightforwardly. Here, we demonstrated a gate voltage (V_{g}) applied on a nonmagnetic metal and magnetic insulator (MI) interface that bent the energy band of the MI and then modulated the probability for conduction electrons in the nonmagnetic metal to tunnel into the MI, which can consequently enhance or weaken the spin-magnon conversion efficiency at the interface. A voltage-controlled magnon transistor based on the magnon-mediated electric current drag (MECD) effect in a Pt-Y_{3}Fe_{5}O_{12}-Pt sandwich was then experimentally realized with V_{g} modulating the magnitude of the MECD signal. The obtained efficiency (the change ratio between the MECD voltage at ±V_{g}) reached 10%/(MV/cm) at 300 K. This prototype of magnon transistor offers an effective scheme to control magnon transport by a gate voltage.

Abstract
Organic dyes in natural waters jeopardize human health. Whether semiconductor materials can effectively degrade dyes has become a challenge for scientific research. Based on this, this study rationally prepared different nanocomposites to remove organic dyes effectively. Pure SnO2 quantum dots, ZnO nanosheets, and SnO2/ZnO (ZS) binary nanocomposites are prepared using the hydrothermal method. Subsequently, SnO2/ZnO@GO (ZSG) ternary composites containing different amounts of GO, i.e., ZSG-5, ZSG-15, and ZSG-25, are synthesized by an ultrasonic water bath method, in which ZS was coupled with GO to form Z-type heterojunctions. The ZSG-15 ternary composites exhibited excellent photocatalytic activity for the degradation of rhodamine B by simulating sunlight. The test results show that the degradation rate of ZSG-15 is about 7.6 times higher than ZnO. The increase in photocatalytic activity is attributed to the synergistic effect of SnO2 and GO to improve the separation efficiency of photogenerated carriers in ZnO. Notably, the large specific surface area of GO increases the reactive sites. Compared with binary nanocomposites, ZSG-15 broadens the response range to light while further accelerating the electron transport rate and improving the photoelectric stability.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Obesity has been demonstrated as a risk factor that seriously affects health. Insoluble dietary fiber (IDF), as a major component of dietary fiber, has positive effects on obesity, inflammation and diabetes. RESULTS In this study, complex IDF was prepared using 50% enoki mushroom IDF, 40% carrot IDF, and 10% oat IDF. The effects and potential mechanism of complex IDF on obesity were investigated in C57BL/6 mice fed a high-fat diet. The results showed that feeding diets containing 5% complex IDF for 8 weeks significantly reduced mouse body weight, epididymal lipid index, and ectopic fat deposition, and improved mouse liver lipotoxicity (reduced serum levels of alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, and alkaline phosphatase), fatty liver, and short-chain fatty acid composition. High-throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA and analysis of fecal metabolomics showed that the intervention with complex IDF reversed the high-fat-diet-induced dysbiosis of gut microbiota, which is associated with obesity and intestinal inflammation, and affected metabolic pathways, such as primary bile acid biosynthesis, related to fat digestion and absorption. CONCLUSION Composite IDF intervention can effectively inhibit high-fat-diet-induced obesity and related symptoms and affect the gut microbiota and related metabolic pathways in obesity. Complex IDF has potential value in the prevention of obesity and metabolic syndrome. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
Point-based object localization (POL), which pursues high-performance object sensing under low-cost data annotation, has attracted increased attention. However, the point annotation mode inevitably introduces semantic variance due to the inconsistency of annotated points. Existing POL heavily rely on strict annotation rules, which are difficult to define and apply, to handle the problem. In this study, we propose coarse point refinement (CPR), which to our best knowledge is the first attempt to alleviate semantic variance from an algorithmic perspective. CPR reduces the semantic variance by selecting a semantic centre point in a neighbourhood region to replace the initial annotated point. We further integrate a variance regularization into the structure to concentrate the predicted scores, yielding CPR++. We observe that CPR++ can obtain scale information and further reduce the semantic variance in a global region, thus guaranteeing high-performance object localization. Extensive experiments on four challenging datasets validate the effectiveness of both CPR and CPR++. We hope our work can inspire more research on designing algorithms rather than annotation rules to address the semantic variance problem in POL. Abstract
In this study, targeted metabolomics technology was used to accurately and quantitatively analyze the metabolic pathways of anthocyanin, sugars and organic acid metabolites during the ripening of 'SuoSuo' grape berries. Results, 33, 10 and 36 metabolites of anthocyanins, sugars and organic acids, respectively, were detected. The anthocyanin with the highest content was cyanidin-3-O-glucoside (136.343 ng/g), which reached a maximum at 135 days after full bloom. The highest fructose content in sugar was 167.69 ng/g (135 days after full bloom). Among the organic acids, tartaric acid exhibited the highest content (37,196.67 mg/kg, 105 days after full bloom). The content of oleanolic acid (230.064 mg/kg, 135 days after full bloom) was higher in organic acids. These results clarify how anthocyanin, sugar and organic acid metabolites accumulate and change as 'SuoSuo' grapes ripen and provide a reference for the development and utilization of 'SuoSuo'.

Abstract
In order to analyze the differences between the master curves of relaxation modulus E(t) and creep compliance J(t) obtained from discrete and continuous spectrum models, and to comprehensively evaluate the effect of basalt fiber content on the viscoelastic behavior of asphalt mixtures, complex modulus tests were conducted for asphalt mixtures with fiber content of 0%, 0.1%, 0.2% and 0.3%, respectively. Consequently, the master curves of Viscoelastic Parameters of asphalt mixtures were constructed according to the generalized Sigmoidal model(GSM) and the approximate Kramers-Kronig (K-K) relationship. Then, transformation of master curves using discrete and continuous spectrum models to obtain the models of E(t) and J(t) containing all viscoelastic information. Also, the accuracy of the models of E(t) and J(t) was evaluated. The results show that the addition of basalt fibers improves the strength, stress relaxation and deformation resistance of asphalt mixtures. It is worth noting that basalt fibers achieve the improvement of asphalt mixtures by changing their internal structure. Considering the different viscoelastic master curves at four dosages, the optimum fiber dosage was 0.2%. In addition, both discrete and continuous model conversion methods can obtain high accuracy conversion results.

Abstract
The magnesium depletion score (MDS) is considered a new valuable and reliable predictor of body magnesium status. This study aimed to explore the association between MDS and congestive heart failure (CHF) among US adults. A total of 19,227 eligible participants from the 2007-2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were enrolled in this study and then divided into three groups according to the level of MDS (none to low: MDS=0-1, middle: MDS=2, high: MDS=3-5). Sample-weighted logistic regression models were applied to calculate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) exploring the independent relationship between MDS and CHF. The estimated prevalence of CHF increased with the increasing level of MDS (none to low: 0.86%, middle: 4.06%, high: 13.52%; P < 0.001). Compared to those in the none-to-low group, participants in the middle and high groups were at significantly higher risk of CHF after adjusting for various covariates (model 3: OR=1.55, 95%CI: 1.05-2.30, P < 0.001; OR=3.20, 95%CI: 2.07-4.96, P < 0.001; respectively). Subgroup analyses indicated that adequate dietary magnesium intake could reduce the risk of CHF in participants who did not meet the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for magnesium. Besides, there was an interaction between coronary artery disease and MDS on CHF (P for interaction < 0.001). These findings indicated that MDS, a novel indicator estimating magnesium deficiency, is associated with the risk of CHF in non-institutionalized US civilians. Participants whose dietary magnesium intake reaches the RDA might be at lower risk.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Immune checkpoint inhibitors in combination with tyrosine kinase inhibitors are standard treatments for advanced clear cell renal cell carcinoma (RCC). This phase III RENOTORCH study compared the efficacy and safety of toripalimab plus axitinib versus sunitinib for the first-line treatment of patients with intermediate-/poor-risk advanced RCC. PATIENTS AND METHODS Patients with intermediate-/poor-risk unresectable or metastatic RCC were randomized in a ratio of 1 : 1 to receive toripalimab (240 mg intravenously once every 3 weeks) plus axitinib (5 mg orally twice daily) or sunitinib [50 mg orally once daily for 4 weeks (6-week cycle) or 2 weeks (3-week cycle)]. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS) assessed by an independent review committee (IRC). The secondary endpoints were investigator-assessed PFS, overall response rate (ORR), overall survival (OS), and safety. RESULTS A total of 421 patients were randomized to receive toripalimab plus axitinib (n = 210) or sunitinib (n = 211). With a median follow-up of 14.6 months, toripalimab plus axitinib significantly reduced the risk of disease progression or death by 35% compared with sunitinib as assessed by an IRC [hazard ratio (HR) 0.65, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.49-0.86; P = 0.0028]. The median PFS was 18.0 months in the toripalimab-axitinib group, whereas it was 9.8 months in the sunitinib group. The IRC-assessed ORR was significantly higher in the toripalimab-axitinib group compared with the sunitinib group (56.7% versus 30.8%; P < 0.0001). An OS trend favoring toripalimab plus axitinib was also observed (HR 0.61, 95% CI 0.40-0.92). Treatment-related grade ≥3 adverse events occurred in 61.5% of patients in the toripalimab-axitinib group and 58.6% of patients in the sunitinib group. CONCLUSION In patients with previously untreated intermediate-/poor-risk advanced RCC, toripalimab plus axitinib provided significantly longer PFS and higher ORR than sunitinib and had a manageable safety profile TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04394975.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To determine the safety and efficacy of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization with CalliSpheres® beads loaded with arsenic trioxide (CBATO-TACE) in the first-line treatment of patients with large (5 cm ≤ maximum diameter < 10 cm) or huge (maximum diameter ≥ 10 cm) hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS Patients were randomly allocated to the CBATO-TACE group and the conventional transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (cTACE) group. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS). The secondary endpoint was overall survival (OS), treatment response, and treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs). The extrahepatic collateral arteries, liver function, and liver fibrosis after the first TACE were also evaluated. RESULTS From September 2018 to September 2020, a total of 207 patients who underwent TACE were consecutively enrolled in this study. The median PFS was 9.5 months (range: 8.0 - 11.0) in the CBATO group, which was significantly longer than that in the cTACE group (6.0 months, range: 4.0-6.0) (p < 0.0001). Patients in the CBATO group had a median OS of 22 months (range: 20.0 - 27.0) compared with 16 months (range: 15.0 - 20.0) in the cTACE group (p = 0.0084). The most common TRAEs were fever (p = 0.043), and nausea and vomiting (p = 0.002), which were more observed in the cTACE group. In addition, the progressive disease time, pulmonary metastasis rate (p = 0.01), the mean number of extrahepatic collateral arteries (p = 0.01), and average number of TACE sessions (p = 0.025) were significantly decreased in the CBATO group. CONCLUSIONS CBATO-TACE achieved better therapeutic outcomes and similar safety profile compared to cTACE in large or huge HCC patients. Furthermore, CBATO-TACE was able to reduce extrahepatic collateral arteries production and extrahepatic lung metastasis. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT Our study showed that CalliSpheres® beads loaded with arsenic trioxide (CBATO-TACE) were effective and safe for the treatment of large and giant HCC. In addition, CBATO-TACE can reduce lateral hepatic branch artery formation and extrahepatic pulmonary metastasis, which provides a new treatment approach for unresectable HCC. KEY POINTS • We compare long-term efficacy and safety of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization with CalliSpheres® beads loaded with arsenic trioxide (CBATO-TACE) and conventional transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (cTACE) in patients with large (5 cm ≤ maximum diameter < 10 cm) or huge HCC (maximum diameter ≥ 10 cm). • Compared with cTACE, CBATO-TACE significantly improved therapeutic outcomes, overall survival, and progression-free survival in patients with large or huge HCC. The safety assessment suggested that CBATO-TACE is a safe treatment that improves the quality of life and has good treatment adherence.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Emerging evidence suggests that Rho GTPases play a crucial role in tumorigenesis and metastasis, but their involvement in the tumor microenvironment (TME) and prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is not well understood. METHODS We aim to develop a tumor prognosis prediction system called the Rho GTPases-related gene score (RGPRG score) using Rho GTPase signaling genes and further bioinformatic analyses. RESULTS Our work found that HCC patients with a high RGPRG score had significantly worse survival and increased immunosuppressive cell fractions compared to those with a low RGPRG score. Single-cell cohort analysis revealed an immune-active TME in patients with a low RGPRG score, with strengthened communication from T/NK cells to other cells through MIF signaling networks. Targeting these alterations in TME, the patients with high RGPRG score have worse immunotherapeutic outcomes and decreased survival time in the immunotherapy cohort. Moreover, the RGPRG score was found to be correlated with survival in 27 other cancers. In vitro experiments confirmed that knockdown of the key Rho GTPase-signaling biomarker SFN significantly inhibited HCC cell proliferation, invasion, and migration. CONCLUSIONS This study provides new insight into the TME features and clinical use of Rho GTPase gene pattern at the bulk-seq and single-cell level, which may contribute to guiding personalized treatment and improving clinical outcome in HCC.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Xi Yang Shen (Panax quinquefolium L.) was originally recorded in "Ben Cao Cong Xin" edited by Wu Yiluo during the Qing Dynasty. Panax Quinquefolium Saponins (PQS) is the main component derived from Panax quinquefolium L, and has been wildly used in the treatment of coronary heart disease. AIM OF THE STUDY This study aims to explore the potential role and underlying mechanisms of PQS in promoting angiogenesis in rats with diabetes and myocardial infarction. MATERIALS AND METHODS Echocardiograms were used to assess cardiac function, while the heart weight to tibia length ratio was calculated to determine cardiac hypertrophy. Hematoxylin and eosin, periodic acid-Schiff and Masson's trichrome staining were used to examine cardiac morphology, myocyte diameter, and myocardial fibrosis. Immunofluorescence staining was employed to evaluate arteriolar density. The transcriptomes were analyzed and bioinformatic analyses were conducted to predict the potential angiogenesis-promoting mechanism of PQS. In addition, RT-PCR and western blotting was utilized to examine the expression of genes and proteins influenced by PQS. RESULTS PQS improved blood glucose, ameliorated cardiac function, reduced cardiac hypertrophy, and enhanced myocardial morphology in diabetic rats with myocardial infarction. PQS was also found to decrease myocyte diameter, curtail myocardial fibrosis, and increase arteriolar density. However, the effects of PQS were abolished following the deletion of protein kinase C δ (PKCδ). Molecular docking predicted strong interactions between the major blood components of PQS and PKCδ. Transcriptomic and bioinformatic analyses indicated that PQS may bolster angiogenesis by activating the VEGF/PI3K-Akt/eNOS pathway in rats with diabetes and myocardial infarction. Finally, the study demonstrated that PQS could inhibit the expression of PKCδ and stimulate the activation of the VEGF/PI3K-Akt/eNOS pathway. CONCLUSIONS PQS improves blood glucose, enhances cardiac function, mitigates cardiac damage, and boosts arteriolar density. The angiogenic impact of PQS appears to be, at least partially, due to its modulation of the PKCδ-mediated VEGF/PI3K-Akt/eNOS signaling pathway in rats with diabetes and myocardial infarction.

Abstract
Purpose Atrial fibrosis is the main pathological basis for the pathogenesis and progression of atrial fibrillation (AF). Soluble suppression of tumorigenicity 2 (sST2) is involved in fibrosis. Recent studies have explored its predictive value in AF outcomes. We performed this study to assess whether sST2 is an independent biomarker of AF outcomes and explore the potential mechanism. Methods PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library databases were searched systematically from inception through July 1, 2023, to identify relevant studies. Outcomes of interest included occurrence, recurrence, and major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) of AF. This meta-analysis was reported following the criteria outlined in PRISMA 2020, and the protocol was registered in PROSPERO (number: CRD42023459789). All statistical analyses were performed using the STATA version 16. Result Twenty four studies with 14,755 patients were included in the meta-analysis. The meta-analyses found that sST2 was significantly associated with the risk of occurrence [HR:1.04, 95% CI: 1.02-1.07, P < 0.01; I2 = 67.8%], recurrence [HR:1.09, 95% CI: 1.02-1.16, P < 0.01; I2 = 89.5%], and MACEs (HR:1.60, 95% CI: 1.13-2.27, P < 0.01; I2 = 82.0%) of AF. Furthermore, patients with AF showed higher sST2 than controls without AF (SMD: 0.41, 95% CI: 0.27-0.54, P < 0.01; I2 = 0%), and AF patients with recurrence after catheter ablation (CA) showed significantly higher sST2 than those without recurrence (SMD: 0.81, 95% CI: 0.33-1.28, P < 0.01; I2 = 83.9%). Sensitivity analyses showed that the outcomes were stable. Conclusions Higher sST2 was association with an increased risk of occurrence, recurrence, and MACEs of AF. Assessing sST2 can be used as a potential screening method to predict AF outcomes. Systematic Review Registration PROSPERO (CRD42023459789).

We propose a noncovalent backbone planarization strategy to fabricate a gas/phototheranostic nanocomposite (B-E-NO NPs) in the near-infrared-II (NIR-II, 1000-1700 nm) window by incorporating noncovalent conformational locks. B-E-NO NPs display a giant NIR-II extinction coefficient, realizing multimodal imaging-guided high-efficiency NIR-II photothermal therapy (η = 45.4%) and thermal-initiated nitric oxide combination therapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors reduce progression of chronic kidney disease and the risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in a wide range of patients. However, their effects on kidney disease progression in some patients with chronic kidney disease are unclear because few clinical kidney outcomes occurred among such patients in the completed trials. In particular, some guidelines stratify their level of recommendation about who should be treated with SGLT2 inhibitors based on diabetes status and albuminuria. We aimed to assess the effects of empagliflozin on progression of chronic kidney disease both overall and among specific types of participants in the EMPA-KIDNEY trial. METHODS EMPA-KIDNEY, a randomised, controlled, phase 3 trial, was conducted at 241 centres in eight countries (Canada, China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, the UK, and the USA), and included individuals aged 18 years or older with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of 20 to less than 45 mL/min per 1·73 m2, or with an eGFR of 45 to less than 90 mL/min per 1·73 m2 with a urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (uACR) of 200 mg/g or higher. We explored the effects of 10 mg oral empagliflozin once daily versus placebo on the annualised rate of change in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR slope), a tertiary outcome. We studied the acute slope (from randomisation to 2 months) and chronic slope (from 2 months onwards) separately, using shared parameter models to estimate the latter. Analyses were done in all randomly assigned participants by intention to treat. EMPA-KIDNEY is registered at ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03594110. FINDINGS Between May 15, 2019, and April 16, 2021, 6609 participants were randomly assigned and then followed up for a median of 2·0 years (IQR 1·5-2·4). Prespecified subgroups of eGFR included 2282 (34·5%) participants with an eGFR of less than 30 mL/min per 1·73 m2, 2928 (44·3%) with an eGFR of 30 to less than 45 mL/min per 1·73 m2, and 1399 (21·2%) with an eGFR 45 mL/min per 1·73 m2 or higher. Prespecified subgroups of uACR included 1328 (20·1%) with a uACR of less than 30 mg/g, 1864 (28·2%) with a uACR of 30 to 300 mg/g, and 3417 (51·7%) with a uACR of more than 300 mg/g. Overall, allocation to empagliflozin caused an acute 2·12 mL/min per 1·73 m2 (95% CI 1·83-2·41) reduction in eGFR, equivalent to a 6% (5-6) dip in the first 2 months. After this, it halved the chronic slope from -2·75 to -1·37 mL/min per 1·73 m2 per year (relative difference 50%, 95% CI 42-58). The absolute and relative benefits of empagliflozin on the magnitude of the chronic slope varied significantly depending on diabetes status and baseline levels of eGFR and uACR. In particular, the absolute difference in chronic slopes was lower in patients with lower baseline uACR, but because this group progressed more slowly than those with higher uACR, this translated to a larger relative difference in chronic slopes in this group (86% [36-136] reduction in the chronic slope among those with baseline uACR <30 mg/g compared with a 29% [19-38] reduction for those with baseline uACR ≥2000 mg/g; ptrend<0·0001). INTERPRETATION Empagliflozin slowed the rate of progression of chronic kidney disease among all types of participant in the EMPA-KIDNEY trial, including those with little albuminuria. Albuminuria alone should not be used to determine whether to treat with an SGLT2 inhibitor. FUNDING Boehringer Ingelheim and Eli Lilly.

Molecular characterization of organic aerosols over the Tibetan Plateau: Spatiotemporal variations, sources, and potential implications. Abstract
Organic aerosols have profound and far-reaching influences on the Earth's climate, ecosystems, environmental quality, and public health. Elucidating the precise composition and sources of these aerosols over the Tibetan Plateau, a region highly sensitive to climate change and vulnerable to ecosystems, is critically important. Sixteen organic molecular tracers in aerosols were quantified using solvent extraction-BSTFA derivatization, and GC/MS analysis at six sites over the Tibetan Plateau during 2014 and 2016. Average total tracer concentration was 32.5 ± 20.1 ng m-3. The highest levels of biomass burning tracers (anhydrosugars and aromatic acids) were found at southeastern Tibetan Plateau site Yulong (20.8 ± 21.3 ng m-3) followed by the western site Ngari (13.3 ± 10.6 ng m-3). Biomass burning tracers decreased from southern sites like Everest (9.50 ± 10.5 ng m-3) to northern aeras such as Laohugou (2.59 ± 2.19 ng m-3). Biomass burning tracers peaked in non-monsoon seasons while primary saccharides and sugar alcohols predominated during monsoon months. Using tracer-based methods, biomass burning contributed 0.4%-8.4% of organic carbon over the plateau, with higher non-monsoon contributions (3.6% ± 3.7%). Backward air mass trajectories and fire spots indicated South Asian biomass burning impacts on organic aerosols at western, southern, and southeastern Tibetan Plateau sites, particularly in non-monsoon periods. Fungal spores and plant debris comprised 0.6%-6.3% and 0.3%-1.2% of organic carbon respectively, with higher monsoon contributions (4.2% ± 4.7%) of fungal spores. Secondary organic carbon was estimated to contribute substantially (45.5%-73.5%) over the plateau but requires further investigation. These results provide insights into pollution mitigation and the assessments of climate and ecology changes for the Tibetan Plateau.

Abstract
Tibetan Plateau (TP) is known as the water tower of Asia, and glaciers are solid reservoirs that can regulate the amount of water. Black carbon (BC), as one of the important factors accelerating glacier melting, is causing evident environmental effects in snow and ice. However, a systematical summary of the potential sources, analytical methods, distributions, and environmental effects of BC in snow and ice on the TP's glaciers is scarce. Therefore, this study drew upon existing research on snow and ice BC on glaciers of the TP to describe the detection methods and uncertainties associated with them to clarify the concentrations of BC in snow and ice and their climatic effects. The primary detection methods are the optical method, the thermal-optical method, the thermochemical method, and the single-particle soot photometer method. However, few studies have systematically compared the results of BC and this study found that concentrations of BC in different types of snow and ice varied by 1-3 orders of magnitude, which drastically affected the regional hydrologic process by potentially accelerating the ablation of glaciers by approximately 15% and reducing the duration of snow accumulation by 3-4 days. In general, results obtained from the various testing methods differ drastically, which limited the systematical discussion. Accordingly, a universal standard for the sampling and measurement should be considered in the future work, which will be beneficial to facilitate the comparison of the spatiotemporal features and to provide scientific data for the model-simulated climatic effects of BC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The EMPA-KIDNEY trial showed that empagliflozin reduced the risk of the primary composite outcome of kidney disease progression or cardiovascular death in patients with chronic kidney disease mainly through slowing progression. We aimed to assess how effects of empagliflozin might differ by primary kidney disease across its broad population. METHODS EMPA-KIDNEY, a randomised, controlled, phase 3 trial, was conducted at 241 centres in eight countries (Canada, China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, the UK, and the USA). Patients were eligible if their estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was 20 to less than 45 mL/min per 1·73 m2, or 45 to less than 90 mL/min per 1·73 m2 with a urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (uACR) of 200 mg/g or higher at screening. They were randomly assigned (1:1) to 10 mg oral empagliflozin once daily or matching placebo. Effects on kidney disease progression (defined as a sustained ≥40% eGFR decline from randomisation, end-stage kidney disease, a sustained eGFR below 10 mL/min per 1·73 m2, or death from kidney failure) were assessed using prespecified Cox models, and eGFR slope analyses used shared parameter models. FINDINGS Between May 15, 2019, and April 16, 2021, 6609 participants were randomly assigned and followed up for a median of 2·0 years (IQR 1·5-2·4). Prespecified subgroupings by primary kidney disease included 2057 (31·1%) participants with diabetic kidney disease, 1669 (25·3%) with glomerular disease, 1445 (21·9%) with hypertensive or renovascular disease, and 1438 (21·8%) with other or unknown causes. Kidney disease progression occurred in 384 (11·6%) of 3304 patients in the empagliflozin group and 504 (15·2%) of 3305 patients in the placebo group (hazard ratio 0·71 [95% CI 0·62-0·81]), with no evidence that the relative effect size varied significantly by primary kidney disease (pheterogeneity=0·62). The between-group difference in chronic eGFR slopes (ie, from 2 months to final follow-up) was 1·37 mL/min per 1·73 m2 per year (95% CI 1·16-1·59), representing a 50% (42-58) reduction in the rate of chronic eGFR decline. This relative effect of empagliflozin on chronic eGFR slope was similar in analyses by different primary kidney diseases, including in explorations by type of glomerular disease and diabetes (p values for heterogeneity all >0·1). INTERPRETATION In a broad range of patients with chronic kidney disease at risk of progression, including a wide range of non-diabetic causes of chronic kidney disease, empagliflozin reduced risk of kidney disease progression. Relative effect sizes were broadly similar irrespective of the cause of primary kidney disease, suggesting that SGLT2 inhibitors should be part of a standard of care to minimise risk of kidney failure in chronic kidney disease. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Limited studies have reported the impact of drug-eluting bead transarterial chemoembolization (DEB-TACE) on hepatic fibrosis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study evaluated multiple hepatic fibrosis indicators, aiming to comprehensively compare the influence of DEB-TACE and conventional transarterial chemoembolization (cTACE) on hepatic fibrosis in treating HCC patients. METHODS Intermediate/advanced HCC patients (N = 121) were divided into the DEB-TACE group (n = 62) and the cTACE group (n = 59) based on their chosen treatment. Serum hyaluronic acid (HA), pro-collagen type-III (PC-III), collagen type-IV (IV-C), and laminin (LN) were detected; aminotransferase to platelet ratio index (APRI) and fibrosis index based on the four factors (FIB-4) were calculated; liver stiffness measurement (LSM) was assessed by real-time shear wave elastography. RESULTS HA, PC-III, IV-C, and LN at 1 month after the second TACE and at 12 months after the first TACE were all decreased in DEB-TACE group compared with cTACE group (all P < .050). Then, APRI, FIB-4, and LSM were further assessed, which also showed a decreasing trend at aforementioned timepoints in DEB-TACE group compared with cTACE group (all P < .050). Additionally, the multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that DEB-TACE (vs. cTACE) was independently associated with reduced occurrence of severe hepatic fibrosis at 12 months (OR = 0.215, 95%CI: 0.058-0.802, P = .022). Concerning the liver function indexes, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, and total bilirubin after treatment were not different between the two groups (all P > .050). CONCLUSION DEB-TACE displays attenuated hepatic fibrosis progression and noninferior tolerance compared to cTACE in treating intermediate- or advanced-stage HCC patients.

Abstract
Triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) as a means of energy harvesting can effectively harvest ocean wave energy, but the energy conversion efficiency and stability of the device during long-term operations are still problems that must be solved for TENGs. Decreasing the frictional resistance between two triboelectric material surfaces is one of the critical approaches for improving the device efficiency and durability. In this work, a novel stacked disc-type rolling triboelectric nanogenerator (SDR-TENG) is designed and fabricated for low-frequency water wave energy harvesting. After 860 000 working cycles, the electrical output attenuation of the SDR-TENG basic unit is less than 5%, showing excellent device durability. Under the simulated water wave conditions, the SDR-TENG with four rolling TENG units can produce an output current of 84.4 µA and an output power of 7.6 mW, corresponding to an effective power density of 16.8 W m-3 . This work not only proposes a strategy to effectively enhance the durability of the devices, but also provides a feasible solution for monitoring the surrounding environment of the charging buoys of unmanned ships.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the imaging changes of in the early period after subthalamic nucleus (STN) deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery for Parkinson's disease (PD) and its impact on electrode impedance by the application of 3.0T MRI-compatible devices. Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed for the data of 43 PD patients who underwent 3.0T MRI-compatible STN-DBS surgery from October 2022 to April 2023 at the First Affiliated Hospital of USTC(Anhui Provincial Hospital), including 27 males and 16 females, aged 43-68 (56±5) years. All patients underwent postoperative 3.0T MRI, CT scans,and impedance measurements 1 week postoperatively.Fifteen patients underwent 3.0T MRI and impedance measurements 1 month postoperatively. The differences in impedance of electrode contacts before and after the 3.0T MRI scans were compared. The occurrence of peri-lead cerebral edema (PLE) in patients was analyzed, as well as the differences in PLE detection rates between the two imaging methods, and the differences in the incidence and volume of PLE at different microelectrode recordings, the occurrence and detection of postoperative PLE, and different microelectrode recording (MER) times and different time nodes were compared. The correlation between electrode impedance and the volume of edema around the nucleus was analyzed. Results: All 43 patients successfully underwent surgery, with a total of 86 electrodes implanted. There was no significant difference in electrode impedance values before and after the 3.0T MRI examinations at 1 week and 1 month postoperatively. The PLE detection rate with 3.0T MRI was 95.12%(39/43), which is significantly higher than that of CT imaging 17.07% (7/43)(χ2=50.705, P<0.001). One week after surgery, the incidence and volume of PLE were higher in the multiple MER group compared with the single MER group, but the difference was not statistically significant. The volume of PLE [M(Q1, Q3) 0 (0, 1.211) cm3] at 1 month was significantly smaller than that at 1 week [0.243 (0, 2.914) cm3] (Z=-3.408, P=0.001). The impedance of electrode contacts within 1 month postoperatively showed a trend of initial decrease followed by an increase, which was negatively correlated with SE volume(r=-0.317, P=0.014). Conclusions: The application of 3.0T MRI-compatible DBS devices in the surgical treatment of PD patients improves the accuracy of early postoperative imaging assessment. The electrode impedance is more stable as the edema around the nucleus subsided at 1 month after surgery, which is suitable for the first program control.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the complications related to deep brain stimulation(DBS) surgery in Parkinson's disease(PD) patients and to determine whether there is a learning curve effect in terms of complications. Methods: Retrospective analysis of the DBS surgical data of 822 PD patients performed by the same surgeon at the First Affiliated Hospital of the University of Science and Technology of China (Anhui Provincial Hospital) from December 2012 to December 2022. The complications related to DBS were evaluated and analyzed the complications of every 100 DBS surgery were further analyzed. Results: A total of 822 PD patients, 453 males and 369 females, aged 31-80 years old, were included. The minimum follow-up period after DBS surgery is 6 months. Surgical related complications occurred in 55 patients (6.69%), including 5 patients (0.61%) with slight bleeding around the electrode, 1 patient (0.12%) with cerebral infarction, 4 patients (0.49%) with postoperative epilepsy, 42 patients (5.11%) with postoperative delirium, 2 patients (0.24%) with respiratory distress, and 1 patient (0.12%) with acute cardiac insufficiency. There were 16 cases (1.94%) of hardware related complications in DBS, of which 4 cases (0.48%) had infection, 1 case (0.12%) had a broken angle at the connection between the pulse generator and the extension wire, 8 cases (0.97%) had an excessively tight extension wire, and 3 cases (0.36%) had an IPG bag hematoma. In the infected cases, 2 patients removed IPG and extension wires. There were 7 cases (0.85%) of stimulus related complications, including 4 cases (0.61%) with programmed sensory abnormalities, 1 case (0.12%) with postoperative abnormal movements and dance like movements, and 2 cases (0.24%) with psychiatric symptoms. A comprehensive analysis was conducted on the above complications, among which 8 cases (0.97%) were relatively serious complications. After active treatment, satisfactory results were achieved, and none of them affected the patient's DBS treatment effect and no patients died. For every 100 cases of DBS surgery complications were analyzed, the percentage of complications decreased significantly from 14.50% (58 cases) in the first 400 cases to 4.73% (20 cases) in the last 400 cases (P<0.001). Conclusion: DBS surgery is safe and has an acceptable low incidence of complications. The incidence of complications also decreases with the accumulation of experience, showing a learning curve effect.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The status of anastomotic blood perfusion is associated with the occurrence of anastomotic leakage after intestinal anastomosis. Fluorescence angiography (FA) with indocyanine green (ICG) can objectively assess intestinal blood perfusion. This study aims to investigate whether anastomotic perfusion assessment with ICG influences surgical decision-making during laparoscopic intestinal resection and primary anastomosis for colonic stricture after necrotizing enterocolitis. METHODS Patients who underwent laparoscopic intestinal resection and primary anastomosis between January 2022 and December 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. Before intestinal anastomosis, the ICG fluorescence technology was used to evaluate the blood perfusion of intestinal tubes on both sides of the anastomosis. After the completion of primary anastomosis, the anastomotic blood perfusion was assessed again. RESULTS Of the 13 cases, laparoscopy was used to determine the extent of the diseased bowel to be excised, and the normal bowel was preserved for anastomosis. The anastomosis was established under the guidance of ICG fluorescence technology, and FA was performed after anastomosis to confirm good blood flow in the proximal bowel. The anastomotic intestinal tube was changed in one case because FA showed a difference between the normal range of intestinal blood flow and the macroscopic prediction. There was no evidence of ICG allergy, anastomotic leakage, anastomotic stricture, or other complications. The median follow-up was 6 months, and all patients recovered well. CONCLUSIONS The ICG fluorescence technology is helpful in precisely and efficiently determining the anastomotic intestinal blood flow during stricture resection and in avoiding anastomotic leakage caused by poor anastomotic intestinal blood flow to some extent, with satisfactory short-term efficacy.

Abstract
Few reports are available describing lesions in captive electric eels Electrophorus spp. This report describes 2 types of cutaneous proliferative lesions (i.e. hamartoma and neoplasm) in a captive electric eel. Ampullary electroreceptor hamartomas appeared grossly as 2 discrete, smooth, pink, spherical, cutaneous masses measuring 6 and 18 mm in diameter. Histologically, hamartomas were composed of predominately spindle cells that were separated into lobules by a peripheral rim of polygonal cells. Spindle cells were arranged in vague streams and occasionally whorls within a myxomatous matrix. Polygonal cells arranged in variably sized trabeculae and cords within a pre-existing fibrovascular stroma surrounded the streams of spindle cells. Admixed with the polygonal cell population were multiple mucous glands and alarm cells, similar to those seen in normal regions of epidermis. Histochemical stains confirmed similar components in the normal ampullary electroreceptor as in the hamartomas. Lymphoma was also present, appearing grossly as patchy pitting, erythematous, and thickened areas of the skin affecting the entire animal. Lymphoma was diffusely infiltrating and expanding the epidermis, oral mucosa, and branchial mucosa up to 1.5 mm in thickness. It was composed of an unencapsulated, well-demarcated, moderately cellular neoplasm composed of lymphocytes arranged in small dense sheets and clusters that separated and effaced epidermal cells. This is the first report of lymphoma in an electric eel, and the first report of ampullary electroreceptor hamartoma in any animal species.

Abstract
The rhizosphere priming effect (RPE) is a widely observed phenomenon affecting carbon (C) turnover in plant-soil systems. While multiple cropping and seasonal changes can have significant impacts on RPE, the mechanisms driving these processes are complex and not yet fully understood. Here, we planted maize in paddy soil during two growing seasons having substantial temperature differences [May-August (warm season, 26.6 °C) and September-November (cool season, 23.1 °C)] within the same calendar year in southern China to examine how seasonal changes affect RPEs and soil C. We identified sources of C emissions by quantifying the natural abundance of 13C and determined microbial metabolic limitations or efficiency and functional genes related to C cycling using an enzyme-based biogeochemical equilibrium model and high-throughput quantitative PCR-based chip technology, respectively. Results showed that microbial metabolism was mainly limited by phosphorus in the warm season, but by C in the cool season, resulting in positive RPEs in both growing seasons, but no significant differences (9.02 vs. 6.27 mg C kg-1 soil day-1). The RPE intensity remained stable as temperature increased (warm season compared to a cool season), which can be largely explained by the simultaneous increase in the abundance of functional genes related to both C degradation and fixation. Our study highlights the simultaneous response and adaptation of microbial communities to seasonal changes and hence contributes to an understanding and prediction of microbially mediated soil C turnover under multiple cropping systems.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence regarding the potential effect of fruit and vegetable consumption on cardiovascular diseases (CVD) was limited and inconsistent among Asian people. METHODS We prospectively examined associations of fruit and vegetable consumption with the risk of CVD among 9740 participants aged 65 years and older (mean baseline age: 88 years) in the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS) (2008-2018). Dietary data were collected using a validated food frequency questionnaire. RESULTS During 37 366 person-years of follow-up, a total of 3738 CVD cases were recorded. After adjusting for demographics, dietary, lifestyle and economical social factors, higher intakes of total fruits and vegetables were associated with lower risk of CVD [comparing with extreme quintiles, hazard ratio and 95% confidence interval: 0.84 (0.74, 0.95)]. The inverse association was mainly driven by vegetable consumption [0.86 (0.77, 0.95)]. Furthermore, the inverse association was stronger for the risk of hypertension [0.84 (0.72, 0.98)]. These associations were consistent across age, sex, body mass index, residence, exercise status, smoking, drinking, meat intake, modified hPDI and health status. CONCLUSIONS This study suggests higher intakes of total fruits and vegetables are associated with a lower risk of CVD among elderly Chinese people, supporting the current recommendations of increasing fruit and vegetable consumption as part of a healthy diet for the prevention of CVD.

Abstract
Synergistic chemotherapy and photothermal therapy (PTT) have emerged as a promising anticancer paradigm to achieve expected therapeutic effects while mitigating side effects. However, the chemo/PTT combination therapy suffers from limited penetration depth, thermoresistance performance of tumor cells, and low drug bioavailability. Herein, multifunctional nanoparticles (BTP/DOX/2DG NPs) coloaded with near-infrared region II (NIR-II) light excitation donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) small molecules, doxorubicin (DOX), and 2-deoxy-d-glucose (2-DG) are developed for reinforced starvation/chemo/NIR-II PTT combination therapy. The synthesized phenylboronic acid (PBA)-modified water-soluble D-A-D molecule (BBT-TF-PBA) not only exhibits high binding ability to DOX and 2-DG through donor-acceptor coordination interactions PBA-diol bonds but also serves as a photoactive agent for NIR-II fluorescence imaging, NIR-II photoacoustic imaging, and NIR-II PTT. Under the acidic and oxidizing conditions in the tumor microenvironment, donor-acceptor coordination interactions and PBA-diol bond are decomposed, simultaneously releasing DOX and 2-DG from BTP/DOX/2DG NPs to achieve effective chemotherapy and starvation therapy. 2-DG also effectively inhibits the expression of heat shock protein and further enhances NIR-II PTT and chemotherapy efficiency. In vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrate the combination effect of BTP/DOX/2DG NPs for chemotherapy, NIR-II PTT, and starvation therapy.

Abstract
Anxiety manifestations and cognitive dysfunction are common sequelae in patients with sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE). Microglia-mediated inflammatory signaling is involved in anxiety, depression, and cognitive dysfunction during acute infection with bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS). However, the molecular mechanisms underlying microglia activation and behavioral and cognitive deficits in sepsis have not been in fully elucidated. Based on previous research, we speculated that the CD137 receptor/ligand system modulates microglia function during sepsis to mediate classical neurological SAE symptoms. A murine model of SAE was established by injecting male C57BL/6 mice with LPS, and cultured mouse BV2 microglia were used for in vitro assays. RT-qPCR, immunofluorescence staining, flow cytometry, and ELISA were used to assess microglial activation and the expression of CD137L and inflammation-related cytokines in the mouse hippocampus and in cultured BV2 cells. In addition, behavioral tests were conducted in assess cognitive performance and behavioral distress. Immunofluorescence and RT-qPCR analyses showed that hippocampal expression of CD137L was upregulated in activated microglia following LPS treatment. Pre-treatment with the CD137L neutralizing antibody TKS-1 significantly reduced CD137L levels, attenuated the expression of M1 polarization markers in microglia, and inhibited the production of TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 in both LPS-treated mice and BV2 cells. Conversely, stimulation of CD137L signaling by recombinant CD137-Fc fusion protein activated the synthesis and release of pro-inflammatory cytokines in cultures BV2 microglia. Importantly, open field, elevated plus maze, and Y-maze spontaneous alternation test results indicated that TKS-1 administration alleviated anxiety-like behavior and spatial memory decline in mice with LPS-induced SAE. These findings suggest that CD137L upregulation in activated microglia critically contributes to neuroinflammation, anxiety-like behavior, and cognitive dysfunction in the mouse model of LPS-induced sepsis. Therefore, therapeutic modulation of the CD137L/CD137 signaling pathway may represent an effective way to minimize brain damage and prevent cognitive and emotional deficits associated with SAE.

Abstract
Hepatic stellate cell is one of the major nonparenchymal cell types in liver. It has been proved the hepatic stellate cells are activated upon liver injury and produce excessive extracellular matrix to induce liver fibrosis. Single-cell RNA sequencing has been introduced to identify the subpopulations and function of hepatic stellate cells for its remarkable resolution of representation of single-cell transcriptome. According to the re-analysis of single-cell RNA sequencing data and pseudotime trajectory inference, we have found the C-type lectins including Colec10 and Colec11 are not produced by hepatocytes but predominantly produced by hepatic stellate cells, especially quiescent ones in the mice livers. In addition, the expression of Colec10 is decreased in the fibrotic livers of CCl4-challenged mice. COLEC10 is also mainly expressed in the hepatic stellate cells of human livers and the expression of COLEC10 is decreased with the progression of liver fibrosis. The bulk RNA sequencing data of the lentivirus transfected LX-2 cells indicates the function of COLEC10 is associated with inflammation, angiogenesis and extracellular matrix alteration. Surprisingly, the in vitro overexpression of COLEC10 in LX-2 cells promotes the mRNA expression of extracellular matrix components including COL1A1, COL1A2 and COL3A1 and the extracellular matrix degradation enzyme MMP2. To further investigate the role of COLEC10 in the pathogenesis of liver fibrosis, the serum concentration of COLEC10 in patients with chronic liver disease and healthy donors is measured. The serum concentration of COLEC10 is elevated in the patients with chronic liver disease compared to the healthy donors and positively correlated with serum concentration of the D-dimer but not the most of liver function markers. Altogether, we conclude that the C-type lectin COLEC10 is predominantly produced by the hepatic stellate cells and involved in the pathogenesis of liver fibrosis.
