Abstract
Spent bleaching clay, a solid waste generated during the refining process of vegetable oils, lacks an efficient treatment solution. In this study, spent bleaching clay was innovatively employed to fabricate ceramic foams. The thermal stability analysis, microstructure, and crystal phase composition of the ceramic foams were characterized by TG-DSC, SEM, and XRD. An investigation into the influence of Al2O3 content on the ceramic foams was conducted. Results showed that, as the Al2O3 content increased from 15 wt% to 30 wt%, there was a noticeable decrease in bulk density and linear shrinkage, accompanied by an increase in compressive strength. Additionally, the ceramic foams were used as catalyst supports, to synthesize ZSM-5@ceramic foam composite catalysts for pyrolysis of waste oil. The open pores of the ZSCF catalyst not only reduced diffusion path length but also facilitated the exposure of more acid sites, thereby increasing the utilization efficiency of ZSM-5 zeolite. This, in turn, engendered a significant enhancement in monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons content from 39.15 % (ZSM-5 powder catalyst) to 78.96 %. Besides, a larger support pore size and a thicker ZSM-5 zeolite coating layer led to an increase in monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons content. As the time on stream was extended to 56 min, the monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon content obtained with the composite catalyst remained 12.41 % higher than that of the ZSM-5 powder catalyst. These findings validate the potential of the composite catalyst. In essence, this study advances the utilization of spent bleaching clay and introduces a novel concept for ceramic foam fabrication. Furthermore, it contributes to the scaling up of catalytic pyrolysis technology.

Abstract
Emulsion gels from the pomelo peel insoluble dietary fiber (PIDF) were developed. The emulsification potentials of PIDFs subjected to various degrees of ball milling (M-PIDFs), cellulase hydrolysis (C-PIDF), and cellulase hydrolysis followed by ball milling (CM-PIDFs) were evaluated. Emulsions prepared by M-PIDFs for different lengths of ball milling time exhibited similar stability characteristics, confirming that M-PIDF emulsion stability might be determined by the three-dimensional structure formed by M-PIDF stacking and oil droplet capture. C-PIDF had characteristics resembling those of Pickering particles. CM-PIDF emulsions got destabilized with ball milling time prolongation. Interface tension and particle size of C/CM-PIDF decreased gradually during ball milling. Rheological and fluorescence microscopy results revealed that the intact internal crosslinking structure frameworks were disrupted in CM-PIDF emulsions. Therefore, intact fiber-based networks, rather than small particle size or low interfacial tension, determine the stability of PIDF emulsions. This study deepens the understanding of PIDF as a clean emulsifier.

Abstract
The presence of organic-complexed copper and zinc in anaerobic digestate effluent (ADE) poses persistent ecological toxicity. This study investigated the detoxification performance and biotic responses of indigenous bacteria against ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA)-complexed Cu(II) and Zn(II). Heavy metals (HMs) stress induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and enhanced extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) secretion. At a Cu(II) influent concentration of 20.0 mg·L-1, indigenous bacteria removed 88.2% of Cu(II) within nine days. The majority of copper and zinc sequestered by bacteria were stored in the cell envelope, with over 50% of copper and 60% of zinc being immobilized. Transmission electron microscopy mapping (TEM-mapping) revealed significant mineralization of copper and zinc on the cell wall. Proteins abundant in EPS, alongside humic acid-like substances, effectively adsorbed HMs. Indigenous bacteria exhibited the capacity to reduce cupric to the cuprous state and cupric is preferentially reduced to cuprous before reaching reducing capacity saturation. Sulfur precipitation emerges as a crucial pathway for Zn(II) removal. Metagenomic analysis indicated that indigenous bacteria upregulated genes related to HMs homeostasis, efflux, and DNA repair, enhancing its resistance to high concentrations HMs. This study provided theoretical guidance for employing bacterial consortia to eliminate HMs in complex aquatic environments.

Abstract
Almond hull, a substantial byproduct comprising more than half of almond fresh weight, has recently gained attention due to its functionality and sustainability benefits. Despite heightened interest, information regarding its toxicity remains limited. In order to assess its genotoxic potential, we conducted Good Laboratory Practice-compliant in vitro and in vivo studies following Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) guidelines. No evidence of toxicity or mutagenicity was observed in a bacterial reverse mutation assay using five tester strains, evaluating almond hull at concentrations up to 5 mg/plate, with or without metabolic activation. Almond hull did not induce chromosome structural damage in a chromosome aberration assay using Chinese hamster ovary cells, nor did it cause any spermatogonial chromosomal aberration in tested male BALB/c mice. To evaluate its ability to induce DNA damage in rodents, a combined micronucleus assay was conducted in KM mice of both sexes. Almond hull was administered at doses of 1250, 2500, and 5000 mg/kg/day via gavage once daily for 2 days. No adverse effects of almond hull were observed in the micronucleus assay. Our results indicate no evidence of the genotoxic potential of almond hull administered up to the maximum concentrations of 5 g/kg, as recommended by OECD guidelines.

Abstract
The successful application of gradient boosting regression (GBR) in machine learning to forecast surface area, pore volume, and yield in biomass-derived activated carbon (AC) production underscores its potential for enhancing manufacturing processes. The GBR model, collecting 17 independent variables for two-step activation (2-SA) and 14 for one-step activation (1-SA), demonstrates effectiveness across three datasets-1-SA, 2-SA, and a combined dataset. Notably, in 1-SA, the GBR model yields R2 values of 0.76, 0.90, and 0.83 for TPV, yield, and SSA respectively, and records R2 of 0.90 and 0.91 for yield in 2-SA and combined datasets. The model highlights the significance of the soaking procedure alongside activation temperature in shaping AC properties with 1-SA or 2-SA, illustrating machine learning's potential in optimizing AC production processes.

Abstract
Catalytic pyrolysis technology proves to be a highly effective approach for waste cooking oil management. However, high-pressure drops and easy deactivation of powder catalysts hinder the industrialization of this technology. In this study, a bifunctional SiC ball (ZSM-5/SiC ball structured) catalyst was prepared to produce monocyclic aromatics. Bifunctional SiC ball catalyst demonstrates notable microwave-responsive properties and remarkable catalytic efficacy. Results showed that the content of monocyclic aromatics under BFSB catalysis with microwave heating was the highest. Weight hourly space velocity is no longer one of the main factors affecting microwave-assisted catalytic pyrolysis under bifunctional SiC ball catalyst. Monocyclic aromatics content did not decrease significantly and was still higher than 86% when space velocity increased from 30 h-1 to 360 h-1. The highest space velocity could only be 180 h-1 under Powder ZSM-5, and the content of the monocyclic aromatics dropped rapidly to 67.68%. Furthermore, even after five operating cycles, the content of monocyclic aromatics with bifunctional SiC ball catalyst continues to surpass the initial content observed with Powder ZSM-5 at 500 °C and 180 h-1. Related characterizations revealed that coking is the primary cause of catalyst deactivation for both catalyst types; however, the bifunctional SiC ball catalyst exhibits a 29.1% lower occurrence of polyaromatic coke formation compared to Powder ZSM-5.

Abstract
The presence of excessive residual Cu(II), a high-risk heavy metal with potential toxicity and biomagnification property, substantially impede the value-added utilization of anaerobic digestion effluent (ADE). This study adapted indigenous bacterial consortium (IBCs) to eliminate Cu(II) from ADE, and their performances and resistance mechanisms against Cu(II) were analyzed. Results demonstrated that when the Cu(II) exposure concentration exceeded 7.5 mg/L, the biomass of IBCs decreased significantly, cells produced a substantial amount of ROS and EPS, at which time the intracellular Cu(II) content gradually decreased, while Cu(II) accumulation within the EPS substantially increased. The combined features of a high PN/PS ratio, a reversed Zeta potential gradient, and abundant functional groups within EPS collectively render EPS a primary diffusion barrier against Cu(II) toxicity. Mutual physiological and metagenomics analyses reveal that EPS synthesis and secretion, efflux, DNA repair along with coordination between each other were the primary resistance mechanisms of IBCs against Cu(II) toxicity. Furthermore, IBCs exhibited enhanced resistance by enriching bacteria carrying relevant resistance genes. Continuous pretreatment of actual ADE with IBCs at a 10-day hydraulic retention time (HRT) efficiently eliminated Cu(II) concentration from 5.01 mg/L to ∼0.68 mg/L by day 2. This elimination remained stable for the following 8 days of operation, further validated their good Cu(II) elimination stability. Notably, supplementing IBCs with 200 mg/L polymerized ferrous sulfate significantly enhanced their settling performance. By elucidating the intricate interplay of Cu(II) toxicity and IBC resistance mechanisms, this study provides a theoretical foundation for eliminating heavy metal barriers in ADE treatment.

Abstract
Contamination of heavy metals has always been a pressing concern. The dry-wet alternately treated carboxymethylcellulose bentonite (DW-CB) was successfully prepared by intercalating bentonite (BT) with carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) obtained by solvent processes using enzymatically digested wastepaper as cellulosic raw material, and the adsorption capacity of Cu2+ on DW-CB in aqueous solution was investigated. A 98.18 ± 2.31 % removal efficiency was achieved by 4 g/L of DW-CB after 8 h in a solution containing 100 mg/L of Cu2+, which were 4.1 times and 1.5 times of that of BT and adsorbent prepared without alternating dry-wet process, respectively. The introduction of -COOH groups during the preparation of DW-CB enhanced the electrostatic interaction between DW-CB and Cu2+, which was the main driving force for Cu2+ removal. The pseudo-first-order kinetic model and Langmuir model better described the adsorption process and adsorption capacity of Cu2+ on DW-CB. DW-CB still showed high removal of Cu2+ (19.61 ± 0.99 mg/g) in the presence of multiple metal ions, while exhibiting the potential for removal of Zn2+, Mg2+ and K+, especially Mg2+ (22.69 ± 1.48 mg/g). However, the interactions of organics with Cu2+ severely affected the removal of Cu2+ by DW-CB (removal efficiency: 17.90 ± 4.17 % - 95.33 ± 0.27 %). In this study, an adsorbent with high targeted adsorption of Cu2+ was prepared by utilizing wastepaper and BT, which broadened the way of wastepaper resource utilization and had good economic and social benefits.

Abstract
Microalgae are considered to be natural producers of bioactive pigments, with the production of pigments from microalgae being a sustainable and economical strategy that promises to alleviate growing demand. Chlorophyll, as the main pigment of photosynthesis, has been widely studied, but its medicinal applications as an antioxidant, antibacterial, and antitumor reagent are still poorly understood. Chlorophyll is the most important pigment in plants and algae, which not only provides food for organisms throughout the biosphere, but also plays an important role in a variety of human and man-made applications. The biological activity of chlorophyll is closely related to its chemical structure; its specific structure offers the possibility for its medicinal applications. This paper reviews the structural and functional roles of microalgal chlorophylls, commonly used extraction methods, and recent advances in medicine, to provide a theoretical basis for the standardization and commercial production and application of chlorophylls.

Abstract
To address the challenging issues of waste plastic pollution and petroleum shortage, we report herein a pulse pressurized catalytic pyrolysis process where polyethylene is continuously converted into aromatics using HZSM-5 catalyst incorporated with hydrated SiO2. Pressurization improves the activity of single-pulse pyrolysis of polyethylene by 14.42%. In contrast to the linear decrease of BTEXS relative yield with a K value of - 0.23 under non-pressurized conditions, pressurization results in a notable stability in the latter stage, characterized by a K value of only - 0.063. Comprehensive catalyst characterization demonstrates that pressurization promotes the release of water from hydrated SiO2, enabling HZSM-5 to effectively undergo dealumination and obtain suitable acidity and pore structure, and ultimately enhancing the resistance to carbon deposition. In summary, pressurization improves both pyrolysis activity and catalysis stability, offering a promising strategy for the high-value utilization of waste plastics.

Abstract
With the growing emphasis on green chemistry and the ecological environment, researchers are increasingly paying attention to greening materials through the use of carbon-based solid acids. The diverse characteristics of carbon-based solid acids can be produced through different preparation conditions and modification methods. This paper presents a comprehensive summary of the current research progress on carbon-based solid acids, encompassing common carbonization methods, such as one-step, two-step, hydrothermal, and template methods. The composition of carbon source material may be the main factor affecting its carbonization method and carbonization temperature. Additionally, acidification types including sulfonating agent, phosphoric acid, heteropoly acid, and nitric acid are explored. Furthermore, the functions of carbon-based solid acids in esterification, hydrolysis, condensation, and alkylation are thoroughly analyzed. This study concludes by addressing the existing drawbacks and outlining potential future development prospects for carbon-based solid acids in the context of their important role in sustainable chemistry and environmental preservation.

Abstract
Alginate lyase is an enzyme that catalyses the hydrolysis of alginate into alginate oligoalginates. To enhance enzyme stability and recovery, a facile strategy for alginate lyase immobilization was developed. Novel magnetic chitosan microspheres were synthesized and used as carriers to immobilize alginate lyase. The immobilization of alginate lyase on magnetic chitosan microspheres was successful, as proven by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction spectra. Enzyme immobilization exhibited the best performance at an MCM dosage of 1.5 g/L, adsorption time of 2.0 h, glutaraldehyde concentration of 0.2%, and immobilization time of 2.0 h. The optimal pH of the free alginate lyase was 7.5, and this pH value was shifted to 8.0 after immobilization. No difference was observed at the optimal temperature (45 °C) for the immobilized and free enzymes. The immobilized alginate lyase displayed better thermal stability than the free alginate lyase. The Km values of the free and immobilized enzymes were 0.05 mol/L and 0.09 mol/L, respectively. The immobilized alginate lyase retained 72% of its original activity after 10 batch reactions. This strategy was found to be a promising method for immobilizing alginate lyase.

Abstract
In this study, the boron-doped iron-carbon composite (Fe@B/C-2) was prepared via a simple solvothermal and secondary calcination process by using iron metal-organic frameworks (Fe-MOFs) as precursor. The obtained Fe@B/C-2 possessed abundant active sites and low iron ion leaching, and exhibited excellent performance on peroxydisulfate (PDS) activation for efficient PFOS (10 mg/L) degradation (94 %) in 60 min, with 0.2 g/L of catalyst dosage, 1.0 g/L of PDS dosage and at 5.0 of initial pH. The radical scavenging and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) tests demonstrated that SO4·- and ·OH were the primary active species during PFOS elimination. Under the attack of these species, PFOS was first transformed into PFOA, followed by a sequential defluorination process, and lastly mineralized into CO2 and F-. Notably, DFT results revealed that Fe species, -BC3/-BC2O structures on the carbon matrix performed crucial roles in PDS activation. The extraordinary catalytic activity of Fe@B/C-2 was attributable to the synergistic effects of Fe nanoparticles and the B-doped on carbon matrix. The doped B not only could activate the inert carbon skeleton and provided more catalytic centers, but also could accelerate the electron transfer efficiency, leading to a boost in PDS decomposition.

Abstract
Microplastics (MPs) have already spread across the globe and have been found in drinking water and human tissues. This may pose severe threats to human health and water environment. Therefore, this study accurately evaluated the removal effect of metal-modified biochar on polystyrene microplastics (PS-MPs) (1.0 μm) in the water environment using a high-throughput fluorescence quantification method. The results indicated that Fe-modified biochar (FeBC) and Fe/Zn-modified biochar (Fe/ZnBC) had good removal efficiencies for PS-MPs under the dosage of 3 g/L, which were 96.24% and 84.77%, respectively. Although pore effects were observed (such as "stuck", "trapped"), the electrostatic interaction was considered the main mechanism for the adsorption of PS-MPs on metal-modified biochar, whereas the formation of metal-O-PS-MPs may also contribute to the adsorption process. The removal efficiency of PS-MPs by FeBC was significantly reduced under alkaline conditions (pH = 9 and 11) or in the presence of weak acid ions (PO43-, CO32-, HCO3-). A removal efficiency of 72.39% and 78.33% of PS-MPs was achieved from tap water (TW) and lake water (LW) using FeBC when the initial concentration was 20 mg/L. However, FeBC had no removal effect on PS-MPs in biogas slurry (BS) and brewing wastewater (BW) due to the direct competitive adsorption of high concentrations of chemical oxygen demand (COD). The findings of this study highlighted that metal-modified biochar had a potential application in purifying tap water or lake water which contaminated by MPs.

Abstract
This research studied the metabolic mechanism of the mixotrophic Chaetoceros sp. The results showed this alga had the highest cell density and growth rate of 47.72 × 105 cells mL-1 and 0.41 d-1, respectively, with a maximum dry weight of 2.90 g/L, when compared to photoautotrophic and photoheterotrophic modes. Compared to photoheterotrophy, transcriptomics results showed the Rubisco, PGK, and GAPDH related genes were separately up-regulated by 1.03, 2.36, and 1.36 times in CBB cycle in mixotrophic mode, suggesting intermediate metabolites of EMP and PPP can enter the chloroplast via transporter proteins, or membrane permeation, and feedback inhibition regulates the reduction of multiple reactions in CBB cycle. Chaetoceros sp. achieves high biomass by utilizing ATP and carbon structures from EMP and PPP pathways, and the addition of NaHCO3 leads to an up-regulation of CBB cycle for the mixotrophic alga, resulting in higher biomass compared to the photoheterotrophic mode.

Abstract
The current high volume of plastic waste, but low recycling rate, has led to environmental pollution and wasted energy. Greenhouse gas CO2 can facilitate thermal cracking to dehydrogenate waste plastics, and has potential value for producing olefins. In this work, the pyrolysis properties of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) were studied by thermogravimetric analysis and Py-GC/MS. The effect of the pyrolysis atmosphere, using N2 or CO2, with various MCM-41 catalyst ratios on pyrolysis product distribution, were investigated. The experimental results show that the olefin selectivity under a N2 atmosphere was from 30.32 % to 44.66 % which increased as the MCM-41 catalyst was increased. Under a CO2 atmosphere, the olefin selectivity reached a maximum of 60.39 %. The Boudouard reaction was also enhanced by the introduction of CO2. The carbon content of the subdivided olefins showed that in CO2, the promotion of C5-C12 olefins was relatively weak when non-catalyzed or at low catalytic ratios, but increased significantly at higher MCM-41 catalyst ratios. With a ratio of LDPE: MCM-41 = 5:4, the CO2 atmosphere showed the greatest promotion of C5-C12 olefins over N2, with an increase of 14.66 % compared to N2, representing a 48.54 % yield of the liquid product. Producing C5-C12 olefins under these conditions maximized energy efficiency. These results show that catalytic pyrolysis of LDPE under a CO2 atmosphere has great potential to produce C5-C12 olefins, which can be used to produce high-value chemicals such as naphtha and gasoline. This opens new opportunities for the chemical recycling of plastic waste.

Abstract
Almond hull, a substantial byproduct constituting more than half of almond fresh weight, has garnered recent attention due to its abundance in fiber and bioactive content. Despite this huge interest, data on its toxicity remain scarce. In line with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) 423 guidelines, this study conducted an acute oral toxicity test using almond hull powders processed from three major almond varieties of Butte, Monterey, and Nonpareil on BALB/c female mice, administering dosages of 300 mg/kg body weight (bw), 2000 mg/kg bw, and 5000 mg/kg bw, with observations over a 14-day period. The results indicated that almond hull powders were non-toxic, aligning with the Globally Harmonized System's classification. Administering up to 5000 mg/kg bw of all three varieties of almond hull powders (female BALB/c mice) and 10,000 mg/kg bw of Monterey almond hull powders (both female and male mice) induced no adverse effects in terms of mortality, body weight changes, food intake, organ to weight ratio, and clinical biochemistry. Additionally, histopathological examination revealed no organ abnormalities. This study demonstrates the non-toxic nature of almond hull as an edible food ingredient under experimental conditions, encouraging the further exploration of its potential for safe consumption and its health benefits.

Abstract
Spermidine is a type of important growth regulator, which involved in the biosynthesis of photosynthetic pigments, and has the function of promoting cell proliferation. In this study, Isochrysis sp. was selected as the research object to explore the effects of spermidine supplementation on the growth of algal cells and fucoxanthin synthesis under different light intensities. The results showed that the cell density (5.40 × 106 cells/mL) of algae were the highest at 11 days under the light intensity of 200 μmol·m-2·s-1 and spermidine content of 150 μM. The contents of diadinoxanthin (1.09 mg/g) and fucoxanthin (6.11 mg/g) were the highest when spermidine was added under low light intensity, and the growth of algal cells and fucoxanthin metabolism were the most significant. In the carotenoid synthesis pathway, PDS (phytoene desaturase) was up-regulated by 1.96 times and VDE (violaxanthin de-epoxidase) was down-regulated by 0.95 times, which may promote fucoxanthin accumulation.

Abstract
Cold atmospheric pressure plasma (CAPP) technique is an innovative non-thermal approach for food preservation and decontamination. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of CAPP power density on microorganism inactivation and quality of Spirulina platensis (S. platensis) slurry. 91.31 ± 1.61% of microorganism were inactivated within 2.02 ± 0.11 min by 26.67 W/g CAPP treatment under 50 ℃. Total phenolic, Chlorophyll-a (Chl-a), and carotenoids contents were increased by 20.51%, 63.55%, and 70.04% after 20.00 W/g CAPP treatment. Phycobiliproteins (PBPs), protein, intracellular polysaccharide, and moisture content of S. platensis was decreased, while vividness, lightness, color of yellow and green, antioxidant activity, Essential Amino Acid Index were enhanced after CAPP treatment. The nutrient release and filaments breakage of CAPP-treated S. platensis improved its bio-accessibility. The findings provided a deep understanding and insight into the influence of CAPP treatment on S. platensis, which were meaningful for optimizing its sterilization and drying processing condition.

Abstract
In this study, macadamia oil-based oleogels were prepared using monoglyceride stearate (MG) as a gelator with a low critical gelation concentration (3.0 wt%). The physical properties of the oleogels were evaluated by polarized light microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, texture and rheological analysis. And the lipid digestion and oxidative stability of the macadamia oil were determined by pH titration and accelerated oxidation test, respectively. The results showed that the hardness, oil binding capacity, and thermal stability of the oleogels increased with increasing MG concentration, which was attributed to the formation of a network of MG crystals held together by van der Waals interactions and hydrogen bonds. Rheological analysis indicated that all the oleogels exhibited a thermally reversible solid-to-liquid transition and viscoelastic behavior at ambient temperatures. Moreover, the formation of oleogels increased fatty acid release during in vitro lipid digestion and improved the oxidative stability of the macadamia oil. In addition, the potential application of these oleogels as replacements for saturated fats in foods was demonstrated by creating a chocolate product where the cocoa butter was replaced with macadamia oil-based oleogels with a high degree of unsaturation. These results can provide guidance for the preparation of macadamia oil-based oleogels, which may increase their application in foods.

Abstract
High organic matter preservation during ensiling promotes material conversion and energy output. In this study, the effects of co-ensiling distillers grains and rice straw on methane production was evaluated, as distillers grains are highly acidic. For co-ensiling, distillers grains and rice straw were mixed to produce methane at five carbon/nitrogen (C/N) ratios. RD20 (C/N20) and RD25 (C/N25) were defined as high-distillers-grain groups and other mixed groups as low-distillers-grain groups. The results showed that Lactobacillus was enriched in RD25, with the highest lactic acid content reaching 54.0 g/kg of dry matter. The pH and organic dry matter loss of RD25 were lower than those of low-distillers-grain groups, but the result for lignocellulose degradation rate was reversed. An 8.6% increase in methane yield and 7.9% increase in energy output were achieved in RD25. Ensiling-anaerobic digestion systems of C/N25 provide high organic matter preservation and energy output.

Abstract
Some mixotrophic microalgae appear to exceed the sum of photoautotrophy and heterotrophy in terms of biomass production. This paper mainly reviews the carbon and energy metabolism of microalgae to reveal the synergistic mechanisms of the mixotrophic mode from multiple aspects. It explains the shortcomings of photoautotrophic and heterotrophic growth, highlighting that the mixotrophic mode is not simply the sum of photoautotrophy and heterotrophy. Specifically, microalgae in mixotrophic mode can be divided into separate parts of photoautotrophic and heterotrophic cultures, and the synergistic parts of photoautotrophic culture enhance aerobic respiration and heterotrophic culture enhance the Calvin cycle. Additionally, this review argues that current deficiencies in mixotrophic culture can be improved by uncovering the synergistic mechanism of the mixotrophic mode, aiming to increase biomass growth and improve quality. This approach will enable the full utilization of advantagesin various fields, and provide research directions for future microalgal culture.

Abstract
The fruit and vegetable industry produces millions of tons of residues, which can cause large economic losses. Fruit and vegetable wastes and by-products contain a large number of bioactive substances with functional ingredients that have antioxidant, antibacterial, and other properties. Current technologies can utilize fruit and vegetable waste and by-products as ingredients, food bioactive compounds, and biofuels. Traditional and commercial utilization in the food industry includes such technologies as microwave-assisted extraction (MAE), supercritical fluid extraction (SFE), ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE), and high hydrostatic pressure technique (HHP). Biorefinery methods for converting fruit and vegetable wastes into biofuels, such as anaerobic digestion (AD), fermentation, incineration, pyrolysis and gasification, and hydrothermal carbonization, are described. This study provides strategies for the processing of fruit and vegetable wastes using eco-friendly technologies and lays a foundation for the utilization of fruit and vegetable loss/waste and by-products in a sustainable system.

Abstract
Pyrolysis of nitrogen-containing biomass holds tremendous potential for producing varieties of high value-added products, alleviating energy depletion. Based on the research status about nitrogen-containing biomass pyrolysis, the effect of biomass feedstock composition on pyrolysis products is first introduced from the aspects of elemental analysis, proximate analysis, and biochemical composition. The properties of biomass with high and low nitrogen used in pyrolysis are briefly summarized. Then, with the pyrolysis of nitrogen-containing biomass as the core, biofuel characteristics, nitrogen migration during pyrolysis, the application prospects, unique advantages of nitrogen-doped carbon materials for catalysis, adsorption and energy storage are introduced, as well as their feasibility in producing nitrogen-containing chemicals (acetonitrile and nitrogen heterocyclic) are reviewed. The future outlook for the application of the pyrolysis of nitrogen-containing biomass, specifically, how to realize the denitrification and upgrading of bio-oil, performance improvement of nitrogen-doped carbon materials, as well as separation and purification of nitrogen-containing chemicals, are addressed.

Abstract
Microalgal biofilm cultivation is a promising method for efficient microalgae production. However, expensive, difficult-to-obtain and non-durable carriers hinder its up-scaling. This study adopted both sterilized and unsterilized rice straw (RS) as a carrier for the development of microalgal biofilm, with polymethyl methacrylate as control. The biomass production and chemical composition of Chlorella sorokiniana, as well as the microbial community composition during cultivation were examined. The physicochemical properties of RS before and after utilized as carrier were investigated. The biomass productivity of unsterilized RS biofilm exceeded that of suspended culture by 4.85 g m-2·d-1. The indigenous microorganisms, mainly fungus, could effectively fixed microalgae to the bio-carrier and enhance its biomass production. They could also degrade RS into dissolved matters for microalgal utilization, leading to the physicochemical properties change of RS in the direction which favored its energy conversion. This study showed that RS can be used effectively as a microalgal biofilm carrier, thus presenting a new possibility for the recycling of rice straw.

Abstract
Macadamia oil is rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, especially a high level of palmitoleic acid, which may have beneficial health effects by lowering blood lipid levels. In our study, the hypolipidemic effects of macadamia oil and its potential mechanisms of action were investigated using a combination of in vitro and in vivo assays. The results showed that macadamia oil significantly reduced lipid accumulation, and improved triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels in oleic acid-induced high-fat HepG2 cells. The macadamia oil treatment also exhibited antioxidant effects, as seen by its ability to reduce reactive oxygen species and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, and increase superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity. The effects of 1000 μg/mL of macadamia oil were comparable to that of 4.19 μg/mL simvastatin. The results of qRT-PCR and western blotting analyses indicated that macadamia oil effectively inhibited hyperlipidemia by reducing the expression levels of SREBP-1c, PPAR-γ, ACC and FAS and by enhancing the expression levels of HO-1, NRF2 and γ-GCS, via AMPK activation and oxidative stress relief, respectively. In addition, different doses of macadamia oil were found to significantly improve liver lipid accumulation, reduce serum and liver TC, TG, and LDL-C levels, increase HDL-C levels, increase antioxidant enzyme (SOD, GSH-Px, and T-AOC) activity, and decrease the MDA content of mice on a high-fat diet. These results indicated that macadamia oil had a hypolipidemic effect and provide insights that might facilitate the development of functional food and dietary supplements.

Abstract
Lignocellulosic biomass is a rich source of fixed renewable carbon and a promising alternative to fossil sources. However, low effective hydrogen to carbon ratio limits its applications. This work studied the influence of oil-bath co-torrefaction of corncob and waste cooking oil for co-pyrolysis. It was compared with dry torrefaction and hydrothermal wet torrefaction firstly. Residual of oil-bath co-torrefaction were the highest of 97.01 %. Oil-bath co-torrefaction could maximize hydrogen atoms retention in corncob, which has a positive significance for deoxygenation during pyrolysis. Oil-bath co-torrefaction could also reduce the average activation energy required for corncob decomposition, while it was increased with dry torrefaction. Oil-bath co-torrefaction coupled with co-pyrolysis was more suitable for hydrocarbon-rich bio-oil production. Oil-bath co-torrefaction temperature had the greatest influence on bio-oil composition. High pressure promoted formation of the CC double bond and degradation of lignin, which further promoted the formation of monocyclic aromatics in bio-oil.

Abstract
Microalgae cannot meet the bait demand for aquaculture due to light intensity limitation and other disadvantageous conditions. This research selected 6 mixotrophic microalgae, and the optimal strains and organic carbon were screened. The results showed that Thalassiosira pseudonana and Chlorella sp. are suitable for mixotrophic culture. The maximum cell density of Thalassiosira pseudonana was found to be 1.67 times than that of the photoautotrophic group when glycerol was added. The maximum cell density of Chlorella sp. with acetic acid was 1.69 times than that of the photoautotrophic group. When the concentration of acetic acid was 5.0 g·L-1 and the concentration of KNO3 was 0.2 g·L-1, the maximum biomass of Chlorella sp. could reach 3.54 × 107 cells·mL-1; the maximum biomass of Thalassiosira pseudonana was 5.53 × 106 cells·mL-1 with 10.0 g·L-1 glycerol and 0.2 g·L-1 KNO3. Metabolomic analysis further revealed that mixotrophic bait microalgae could promote the accumulation of lipids and amino acids.

Abstract
Rice straw and swine wastewater are abundant, easy to obtain, and inexpensive biomass materials. Anaerobic digestion of rice straw and swine wastewater effectively regulates the carbon-to-nitrogen ratio and also improves methane production efficiency. The dense lignocellulosic structure, unsuitable carbon-to-nitrogen ratio, and light texture of rice straw hinder its application in anaerobic digestion. Effective pretreatment technologies can improve degradation efficiency and methane production. Our study is the first to apply domesticated paddy soil microbes to enhance the efficiency of hydrolytic acidification of rice straw and swine wastewater at varying temperatures and times. The results show that the highest total organic carbon (1757.2 mg/L), soluble chemical oxygen demand (5341.7 mg/L), and organic acid concentration (4134.6 mg/L) appeared in the hydrolysate after five days of hydrolytic acidification at 37 °C. Moreover, the use of hydrolysate produced 13% more gas and reduced the anaerobic digestion period by ten days compared to the untreated control. This suggests that using domesticated paddy soil microbes as a pretreatment might be a sustainable and cost-effective strategy for improving the degradation efficacy and methane production from lignocellulosic materials.

Abstract
Microalgae have been shown to have a promising potential for CO2 utilization and wastewater treatment which still faces the challenges of high resource and energy requirements. The implementation of the circular economy concept is able to address the issues that limit the application of microalgae-based technologies. In this review, a comprehensive discussion on microalgae-based CO2 utilization and wastewater treatment was provided, and the integration of this technology with the circular economy concept, for long-term economic and environmental benefits, was described. Furthermore, technological challenges and feasible strategies towards the improvement of microalgae cultivation were discussed. Finally, necessary regulations and effective policies favoring the implementation of microalgae cultivation into the circular economy were proposed. These are discussed to support sustainable development of microalgae-based bioremediation and bioproduction. This work provides new insights into the implementation of the circular economy concept into microalgae-based CO2 utilization and wastewater treatment to enhance sustainable production.

Abstract
Leftover dough is a starch-rich food processing waste of Chinese steamed bread. Leftover dough hydrolysates enriched with glucose and amino acids were used to cultivate the marine microalga Isochrysis galbana to produce docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) under CO2 enrichment. Isochrysis galbana could use mixed carbon sources (CO2, glucose, and amino acids) synchronously to grow and accumulate DHA. Cell growth, the uptake of glucose and amino acids, and DHA production were significantly affected by CO2 enrichment. The maximum biomass concentration of 3.85 g L-1 was achieved with 3 % CO2. And the maximum DHA yield was 65.5 mg L-1 d-1. To enhance DHA production, a two-stage cultivation strategy was successfully developed by this work. The maximum DHA yield of the two-stage culture was elevated by 2.3-fold. It is feasible to produce DHA by Isochrysis galbana using leftover dough under CO2 enrichment.

Abstract
In this study, the microwave-assisted pyrolysis coupled with ex-situ catalytic reforming of polyethylene for naphtha range hydrocarbons, with low aromatic content, was investigated. Experimental results revealed that ZSM-5 zeolites with low SiO2/Al2O3 ratios led to high aromatic selectivity, while an extremely high SiO2/Al2O3 ratio significantly reduced the aromatic selectivity. The high selectivity of C5-C12 hydrocarbons (98.9 %) with low selectivity of C5-C12 aromatics (28.5 %) was obtained over a high silica ZSM-5 zeolite at a pyrolysis temperature of 500 °C, catalytic cracking temperature of 460 °C, and a weight hourly space velocity of 7 h-1. The liquid oil produced was mainly composed of C5-C12 olefins that can be easily converted into paraffin-rich naphtha by hydrogenation or hydrogen transfer reactions as the feedstock for new plastic manufacturing. 8 cycles of regeneration-reaction cycles were carried out successfully with little change on the product distribution, showing the great potential for continuous production of low-aromatic liquid oil. Catalyst characterization showed that the catalyst deactivation was primarily caused by coke deposition (approximately 16.0 wt%) on the surface of the catalysts, and oxidative regeneration was able to recover most of the pore structure and acidity of the zeolite by effectively removing coke. This study provides a better understanding for the plastic-to-naphtha process and even for scale-up studies.

Abstract
As a promising method for efficiently harvesting microalgae, electro-flotation's performance is related to various factors including electrode design and process operating parameters. In this paper, bubble generation behavior on stainless-steel cathodes, with wire diameters of 0.8 mm, 0.2 mm and 0.05 mm, was studied. The results show that the bubble size increased with the increasing diameter of the electrode wire. Over 90 % harvesting efficiency was achieved using non-sacrificial anode. Extracellular polymeric substance is the main reason keeping bubbles from bursting.

Abstract
In order to reduce the culture cost and increase the growth rate of heterotrophic Chlorella vulgaris, the effects of hydrolysate of broken rice (HBR) combined with sodium acetate on its growth were evaluated. Results showed that the addition of 0.4 g/L of sodium acetate could stabilize the pH of the medium via the co-metabolism of acetate, ammonia and nitrate by Chlorella vulgaris. Meanwhile, isocitrate lyase activity increased threefold, which further promoted the glyoxylate cycle and the citric acid cycle, which finally provided more energy and metabolic precursors for cell growth. The biomass production (5.04 g/L), biomass productivity (1.65 g/L/day) and protein content (64.14 %) were 1.56, 1.81 and 1.77 times higher than the glucose group. This study demonstrated that HBR combined with sodium acetate could effectively promote the heterotrophic metabolism of microalgae, which provided scientific basis and guidance for industrial production of high-value products using Chlorella vulgaris as a fermentation platform.

Abstract
A symbiotic system of algae-bacteria, and attached cultivation, are two ways to increase microalgae biomass, and beneficially effect wastewater treatment. However, the possible advantages of the algae-bacteria co-culture in attached cultivation, are still unclear. This paper investigates the effects of different morphologies of a phosphate solubilizing bacteria-Paenibacillus xylanexedens (bacteria supernatant, bacteria, broken bacteria), on the growth of microalgae-Chlorella pyrenoidosa and wastewater treatment in an attached co-culture system. The results show that the broken bacteria had the most significant effect, with the biomass and protein content of Chlorella pyrenoidosa increasing by 125.67% and 25.04%; and the removal rate of COD, NH4+-N and PO43- in wastewater increasing by 23.57%, 146.15% and 9.96% respectively. This indicates that the intracellular material of the Paenibacillus xylanexedens was more effective in promoting the biomass growth of Chlorella pyrenoidosa and the removal rates of COD, NH4+-N and PO43-, compared to the algae growing without the bacteria. The algae-bacteria symbiotic attached mode was superior to the suspended mode, in terms of both Chlorella pyrenoidosa biomass enhancement and effective wastewater treatment. The addition of different morphologies of Paenibacillus xylanexedens significantly enlarged the difference between the two culture modes. This study provides a new method for coupled algae-bacteria co-cultures for wastewater treatment, based on the symbiotic effect.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Microalgae protein is considered as a sustainable alternative to animal protein in the future. Using waste for microalgal culture can upgrade low-value raw materials into high-value products, helping to offset the cost of microalgal protein production. In this study we explored the feasibility of using microalgae heterotrophic fermentation to convert broken rice hydrolysate (BRH) into protein. RESULTS The results showed that the increase of BRH supplemental ratio was beneficial to the increase of biomass production but not beneficial to the increase of intracellular protein content. To further improve protein production, the effect of C/N ratio on intracellular protein accumulation was studied. It was found that low C/N ratio was beneficial to the synthesis of glutamate in microalgae cells, which in turn promoted the anabolism of other amino acids and further the protein. When the C/N ratio was 12:1, the biomass productivity and protein content could reach a higher level, which were 0.90 g/L/day and 61.56%, respectively. The obtained Chlorella vulgaris biomass was rich in essential amino acids (41.80%), the essential amino acid index was as high as 89.07, and the lysine content could reach up to 4.05 g/100 g. CONCLUSIONS This study provides a theoretical basis and guidance for using Chlorella vulgaris as an industrial fermentation platform to convert broken rice into products with high nutritional value.

Abstract
The process water (PW) from acid-catalyzed hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) is still an environmental burden due to the enriched organics, nutrients, and salts. This study proposed a novel strategy to valorize food waste digestate into multifunctional hydrochar by recirculating the PW in the HCl-catalyzed HTC process. The produced multifunctional hydrochar could be utilized as a high-quality solid fuel with HHV of 27.9 MJ kg-1 (hydrochar without PW recirculation) and a slow-release fertilizer by converting the complex Ca and P compounds from the food waste digestate into a Ca-P deposit (hydroxyapatite) with more than a 93 % P recovery rate (hydrochar with PW recirculation). Adding fresh HCl in the HTC PW recirculation system only displayed a marginal catalytic impact on the hydrochar properties after two cycles of recirculation. This study demonstrated the importance of inherent Ca in the feedstocks and the dual role of HCl in the HTC with PW recirculation.

Abstract
Selenylation Astragalus polysaccharides (Se-APS) was fabricated by an optimized microwave-assisted method. Their physicochemical properties, antioxidant capacities and selenium (Se) release rate under gastrointestinal conditions were determined. Se-APS with the highest Se content (18.8 mg/g) was prepared in 0.4 % nitric acid, under the microwave conditions of 90 min and 80 °C. FTIR and XPS spectra indicated that Se was bound to the polysaccharide chain in the form of O-Se-O and O-H···Se, and most of Se+4 was reduced to Se0. Meanwhile, the micromorphology of Se-APS became clusters, loose and porous, which decreased its hydrodynamic particle size and negative surface charges. Besides, Se-APS displayed strong scavenging capacities towards ABTS and superoxide anion free radicals than Na2SeO3, and showed higher Se release rate (12.52 ± 0.31 %) under intestinal fluid comparing with gastric fluid (3.14 ± 0.38 %) during 8 h in vitro digestion. The results provided efficient preparation method references for selenylation polysaccharides, and broaden the application fields of APS.

Abstract
Copper ion (Cu2+) and zinc ion (Zn2+) are widely co-existent in anaerobic digestion effluent as typical contaminants. This work aims to explore how Cu2+-Zn2+ association affects physiological properties of S. platensis using Schlösser medium (SM) and sterilized anaerobic digestion effluent (SADE). Microalgae cells viability, biochemical properties, uptake of Cu2+ and Zn2+, and risk assessment associated with the biomass reuse as additives to pigs were comprehensively assessed. Biomass production ranged from 0.03 to 0.28 g/L in SM and 0.63 to 0.79 g/L in SADE due to the presence of Cu2+ and Zn2+. Peak value of chlorophyll-a and carotenoid content during the experiment decreased by 70-100% and 40-100% in SM, and by 70-77% and 30-55% in SADE. Crude protein level reduced by 4-41% in SM and by 65-75% in SADE. The reduction ratio of these compounds was positively related to the Cu2+ and Zn2+ concentrations. Maximum value of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids was both obtained at 0.3 Cu + 2.0 Zn (50.8% and 22.8%, respectively) and 25% SADE reactors (33.8% and 27.7%, respectively). Uptake of Cu in biomass was facilitated by Zn2+ concentration (> 4.0 mg/L). Risk of S. platensis biomass associated with Cu2+ was higher than Zn2+. S. platensis from SM (Cu2+ ≤ 0.3 mg/L and Zn2+ ≤ 4.0 mg/L) and diluted SADE (25% and 50% SADE) reactors could be used as feed additives without any risk (hazard index <1), which provides sufficient protein and fatty acids for pig consumption. These results revealed the promising application of using S. platensis for bioremediation of Cu2+ and Zn2+ in anaerobic digestion effluent and harvesting biomass for animal feed additives.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To determine the risk of total knee replacement (TKR) for primary osteoarthritis (OA) associated with overweight/obesity in the Australian population. METHODS This population-based study analyzed 191,723 cases of TKR collected by the Australian Orthopaedic Association National Joint Registry and population data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. The time-trend change in incidence of TKR relating to BMI was assessed between 2015 and 2018. The influence of obesity on the incidence of TKR in different age and gender groups was determined. The population attributable fraction (PAF) was then calculated to estimate the effect of obesity reduction on TKR incidence. RESULTS The greatest increase in incidence of TKR was seen in patients from obese class III. The incidence rate ratio for having a TKR for obesity class III was 28.683 at those aged 18-54 years but was 2.029 at those aged >75 years. Females in obesity class III were 1.7 times more likely to undergo TKR compared to similarly classified males. The PAFs of TKR associated with overweight or obesity was 35%, estimating 14,287 cases of TKR attributable to obesity in 2018. The proportion of TKRs could be reduced by 20% if overweight and obese population move down one category. CONCLUSIONS Obesity has resulted in a significant increase in the incidence of TKR in the youngest population in Australia. The impact of obesity is greatest in the young and the female population. Effective strategies to reduce the national obese population could potentially reduce 35% of the TKR, with over 10,000 cases being avoided.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The application of Pickering emulsions stabilized by food-derived particles is of great interest, studies have focused on development of natural functional emulsifiers from agricultural byproducts. Dietary fiber (DF) has been recognizing for its excellent physiological functions. Moreover, physicochemical properties of pomelo peel DF (PDF) make it a potential emulsifier. However, pristine PDF is not suitable as emulsifier due to its compact physical structure and high hydrophobicity, which seriously limits its utilization. The objective of the study was to investigate the effects of cellulase on physicochemical properties of PDF and to illustrate the feasibility of cellulase modified PDF (MPDF) as natural functional emulsifier. RESULTS Cellulase modification significantly improved (P < 0.05) specific surface area, water-holding capacity/oil-holding capacity, viscoelasticity, hydrophobicity, and pore structure while decreased crystallinity index and particle size of PDF. Emulsion could remain stable over 30 days as MPDF concentrations up to 1 wt% and oil/water ratio 3:7. The appearance stability of emulsions was not influenced by temperature (4-60 °C), pH (3.0-12.0), and ion concentration (0-200 mmol L-1 ) which was similar to Pickering emulsions. The mechanism of MPDF as an emulsifier was mainly attributed to the combination of Pickering effect and the three-dimensional network. In addition, MPDF showed higher antioxidant capacity in emulsions than other classical emulsifiers. CONCLUSION The results illustrated that MPDF has a favorable feasibility for preparation of stable Pickering-type emulsions, which will be a practical support for application of PDF as a natural functional emulsifier and will be helpful to realize the resource utilization of DF in pomelo industries. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
As a group of green biocatalysts, fungal laccases have aroused great interest in diverse biotechnological fields. Therein, yellow laccase has advantages over blue laccase in catalytic performance, but it is not common in the reported fungal laccases. Here, we report a yellow laccase from white-rot fungus Coriolopsis gallica NCULAC F1 about its production, purification, characterization, and application. Laccase production in the co-fermentation of pomelo peel and wheat bran reached the enzyme activity by 10,690 U/L after 5 days with a 13.58-time increase. After three steps of purification, laccase increased the specific activity from 30.78 to 188.79 U/mg protein with an activity recovery of 45.64%. The purified C. gallica laccase (CGLac) showed a molecular mass of about 57 kDa. CGLac had a yellow color and no absorption peaks at 610 nm and 330 nm, suggesting that it’s a yellow laccase. CGLac exhibited stability towards temperature (40–60 °C) and neutral pH (6.0–8.0). Fe3+ and Mn2+ strongly stimulated CGLac activity by 162.56% and 226.05%, respectively. CGLac remained high activities when exposed to organic reagents and putative inhibitors. Additionally, CGLac contributed to 90.78%, 93.26%, and 99.66% removal of phenol, p-chlorophenol and bisphenol A after 120 min, respectively. In conclusion, a green efficient production strategy was introduced for fungal laccase, and the obtained CGLac presented great enzymatic properties and catalytic potential in the removal of phenolic pollutants. Pomelo peels and wheat bran are great nutritional sources and laccase inducers. CGLac showed the spectral characteristic of yellow laccase. CGLac had great stability and catalytic ability for phenolic pollutants removal.

Abstract
Exopolysaccharides (EPS) produced by Arthrospira platensis (A. platensis) has been widely applied in industry and commerce for its various activities but the accumulation of EPS in culture medium may influence the growth of A. platensis reversely. This work aims to explore the impacts of initial pH, nitrogen source and concentration, phosphate concentration and recycle times of the culture medium on the growth of A. platensis and the secretion of its EPS. The results showed that EPS accumulated with the increase in recycle times of culture medium. The optimal initial pH for the growth of A. platensis was 8.50, and high pH of 11.5 inhibited the growth of biomass while resulting in highest EPS content of 92.87 mg/g DW. Excessive and limited nitrogen (NaNO3 of 25.00 g/L and NaNO3 < 2.50 g/L) and phosphate (K2HPO4 of 5.00 g/L and K2HPO4 < 0.50 g/L) inhibited the biomass production of A. platensis by 1.28−30.77% and 14.29−45.05%, respectively. EPS yield of 97.57 mg/g DW and 40.90 mg/g DW were obtained under NaNO3 of 25.00 g/L and K2HPO4 of 5.00 g/L due to salt stress. These findings are beneficial in providing a theoretical basis for high yield EPS from A. platensis without affecting biomass yield.

Abstract
The pre-dehydration of a woody biomass waste (Douglas fir, DF) with 4.6-32 wt% of diluted sulfuric acid solutions was carried out mainly at room temperature aimed to improve the carbon yield from the thermal carbonization of pre-dehydrated biomass at 500 °C. By comparison (based on the raw DF), the pre-dehydration at room temperature increased the biochar yield and carbon retention up to about 32 wt% and 54%, respectively from that of about 22 wt% and 39% without pre-dehydration. When the pre-dehydration temperature increased to 90 °C, the biochar yield and carbon retention were sharply promoted to about 44 wt% and 76%, which was about two times higher than that of the biochar obtained without pre-treatment. This work for the first time proved the effectiveness of improving the carbon yield from lignocellulosic biomass via diluted sulfuric acid-assisted pre-dehydration at low or even room temperature.

Abstract
Energy shortage and environmental pollution have attracted long-term attention. In this study, CaO were prepared from waste eggshell (EGC), preserved egg shell (PEC), clam shell (CLC) and crab shell (CRC), which were then compared with commercial CaO (CMC) to catalyze microwave-assisted pyrolysis of waste cooking oil (WCO) for enrichment of aromatics in bio-oil. The characterization results indicated that EGC and CLC contained 95.54% and 95.61% CaO respectively, which were higher than that of CMC (95.11%), and the pore properties of EGC were the best. In addition, the effects of CaO type and catalytic mode on pyrolysis were studied. In CaO catalytic pyrolysis, CMC and CLC in-situ catalysis produced more aromatics than ex-situ catalysis, and PEC and CRC were more conducive to aromatics formation in ex-situ condition. EGC was conducive to produce benzene, toluene and xylene (BTX) both in in-situ (19.04%) and ex-situ (20.76%) catalytic pyrolysis. In CaO/HZSM-5 catalysis, the optimal dual catalytic mode for generating monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (MAHs) was Mode A (CaO separated from HZSM-5 for ex-situ catalysis), and EGC/HZSM-5 performed well in benzene, toluene and xylene (BTX) production.
