Abstract
PURPOSE Brief Admission by self-referral (BA) is a standardized crisis-management intervention for individuals with self-harm and risk for suicide. This study explored relatives' experiences of BA. Relatives' perspectives may contribute to an increased understanding of the effects of BA given the relatives' role as support and informal caregivers as well as being co-sufferers. METHODS Fourteen relatives to adults with access to BA within one Swedish region participated in focus groups analysed with reflexive thematic analysis. RESULTS We generated themes evolving around three meaning-based concepts: access (A low threshold to a safe back-up is crucial and obstacles may easily break faith), independence (Trust in their ability with care and respect), and recovery (The rest and relational recovery we all get are needed and invaluable). CONCLUSIONS BA brings considerable value to users and relatives, by supporting them to take care of themselves and each other. Communication and involvement of relatives may enhance users' ability to overcome obstacles to accessing BA. Implementation and adherence may be strengthened by supervision of BA staff and education of emergency care staff. Resources are needed to improve access. Mapping hurdles to BA, support through peers and targeted psychoeducation may improve recovery for BA users and their relatives.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to explore how health care providers at youth clinics (YCs) in Sweden engage with, focus on, and navigate across the mental health youth space, while upholding the core bedrock principle of "youth-centeredness". METHODS Qualitative interviews were conducted with 21 health care professionals working in three YCs located in three different regions of Sweden. Data were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis informed by the work of Braun and Clarke. RESULTS The three themes were: 1) "youth mission-at the core of the YCs" work and challenged by a stronger involvement in mental ill health'; 2) "YCs" unique and complementary role in the youth mental health system: a holistic perspective, team work, and a focus on normalization', and 3) "Caught between a rock and a hard place: to treat at a care level that is not optimal for the young users" needs or to refer within an unreliable system'. CONCLUSION This study reflects the individuality and key features of YCs, their widening roles within the mental health sphere, and the challenges faced in maintaining and expanding the characteristic "youth-centred" approach while expanding their work with mental health.

Abstract
The artificial intelligence (AI) revolution is here and gathering momentum, thanks to new models of natural language processing (NLP) and rapidly increasing adoption by the public. NLP technology uses statistical analysis of language structures to analyse and generate human language, using text or speech as its source material. It can also be applied to visual mediums like images and videos. A few qualitative research early adopters are beginning to adopt this technology into their work, but our understanding of its potential remains in its infancy. This article will define and describe NLP-based AI and discuss its benefits and limitations for reflexive thematic analysis in health research. While there are many platforms available, ChatGPT is the most well-known and accessible. A worked example using ChatGPT to augment reflexive thematic analysis is provided to illustrate potential application in practice. This article is intended to inspire further conversation around the role of AI in qualitative research and offer practical guidance for researchers seeking to adopt this technology.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is a debilitating and under-recognized condition of the autonomic nervous system. This study applied Leventhal's Common-Sense Model of Illness Representations to explore the journey to a diagnosis of POTS and to understand its relevance to poorly understood conditions which have common comorbidities. DESIGN An inductive qualitative approach was used to explore the processes by which patients formulate explanations and management of symptoms within the search for a diagnostic label and to investigate illness identity in the context of existing diagnoses or multimorbidity. METHODS Participants (n = 29) for this nested qualitative study were recruited from a larger longitudinal study of people who had been newly referred to a specialist POTS service. Semi-structured interviews were conducted via video call. Three researchers coded and analysed data using Reflexive Thematic Analysis and elements of Grounded Theory. RESULTS The analysis resulted in three overarching themes: 'Seeking physiological coherence and validation', 'Individual persistence', and 'Navigating the cumulative burden'. 'Accessibility and disparities of health care' was noted as a contextual factor. Receiving a POTS diagnosis was regarded by participants as providing legitimacy and increased access to treatment. Overall, delays in the diagnostic journey and the lack of a clear diagnosis impacted negatively on patients through increased uncertainty and a lack of clear guidance on how to manage symptoms. Findings also suggested there were great complexities in assigning symptoms to labels in the context of multimorbidity. CONCLUSIONS Participants' stories highlighted the urgent need for better recognition of POTS so that the self-regulatory process can be initiated from the early stages of symptom detection.

Abstract
Background Age-friendly environments intend to promote active ageing by facilitating social, mental, and physical participation. This could potentially delay the onset of chronic complex conditions, enabling people to live longer independently at home, and prevent loneliness. This study investigates a community-based living environment in Norway called Helgetun and aims to explore how it can facilitate active ageing. Method We chose an ethnographic approach consisting of observation, informal conversations, and in-depth semi-structured interviews with 15 residents (11 female, 4 male, ages 62-84). We analysed the data using reflexive thematic analysis. Result We developed three themes on facilitating active ageing in this living environment: maintaining self-identity, experiencing growth and development, and feeling a sense of belonging. These themes were related to physical activity levels, social engagement, and overall satisfaction with the living environment. Maintaining self-identity concerned getting a new role in life as well as access to meaningful activities. Experiencing growth and development involved being exposed to new activities, learning new skills, and experiencing mastery. Lastly, feeling a sense of belonging meant feeling safe and part of a group, as well as receiving social support and help. This feeling of social connectedness and safety was reflected in their experience with the COVID-19 pandemic, in which most felt relatively unaffected, suggesting that this way of living could increase reliance among this age group. Conclusion Having a flexible structure, adapting to the core needs and individual resources of the residents, can facilitate active ageing in community-based living environments. Our findings contribute to the growing evidence that these environments increase social and physical engagement, whilst reducing social isolation and loneliness. These findings may be particularly relevant in a Norwegian context-where older adults are less dependent on family for care-and are meant as grounding points for policymakers to reflect upon designing future senior living.

Abstract
Background Hospitalization can be an extremely distressing experience for seriously ill and injured children. Art therapy has a well-established clinical history, and recent research has begun to demonstrate its effectiveness in somatic pediatric wards. Descriptive and statistical research indicates that art therapy can alleviate anxiety and fear, improve mood, and enhance communication among children, parents, and healthcare professionals. This study aims to enhance our understanding of the specific elements of art therapy that facilitate a connection with the healthier aspects of the self. Method A total of 12 hospitalized children, aged 4-12, participated in an art therapy session led by a certified art therapist. Verbalizations during the sessions were recorded, and subsequent observations were synchronized with verbatim transcriptions of audio recordings. A reflexive thematic analysis was conducted to identify relevant patterns of meaning. Findings The study identified four significant dimensions of the children's experiences during art therapy: (1) The child feels safe, (2) The child becomes a competent artist, bursting with creativity, (3) The healthy child emerges, and (4) The child achieves something beyond its limits - a triumph. Discussion The active ingredients contributing to effective art therapy include the stimulation of creativity, guided art-making with scaffolding support, task variation, granting children control over the artistic process, encouragement of free expression, and the display of positive regard. This study also delves into the therapeutic alliance, emphasizing its role in facilitating children's learning, self-expression, concentration, and the creation of work they take pride in. Additionally, certain psychotherapy-like interactions, such as control-mastery dynamics, were observed. Nevertheless, more extensive research with larger sample sizes is required to draw broader conclusions.

Abstract
Although sheep are commonly transported long distances, and sheep welfare during transport is a topic of research and policy discussion, the subject of their fatigue during transport has been under-researched. The current qualitative study, focused on the EU and UK, aimed to critically analyse stakeholder views on issues relating to sheep fatigue, including behavioural indications of fatigue, the interplay between fatigue and other factors, and the practicalities of identifying fatigue in commercial transport conditions. Insight into stakeholder perceptions of these issues could contribute to the body of knowledge regarding sheep fatigue during transport, potentially playing a part in future efforts to improve fatigue understanding and detection. Eighteen experts from different stakeholder groups were interviewed. Reflexive thematic analysis of interview data yielded four themes and three sub-themes. The first theme, "Let's anthropomorphise it a little bit", underscores the pervasiveness of anthropomorphism and suggests using it in a conscious and deliberate way to drive stakeholder engagement and policy change. The second theme, "We think that they're like we are and they're not", cautions against wholesale transfer of human experiences to animals. The third theme, 'See the whole animal', advocates using Qualitative Behaviour Analysis (QBA), proven reliable in other contexts, to deepen and enrich our current understanding of fatigue. The fourth theme, 'Fatigue "never comes up"', highlights the fact that fatigue is rarely if ever discussed in the context of sheep transport. These themes suggest several avenues for future research, including developing QBA-based assessments for fatigue to improve welfare during transport.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Quality of life (QOL) is an outcome that matters to patients with chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI). However, we identified the lack of and need for a CLTI-specific QOL instrument. Our group is developing this instrument which requires a deep understanding of patient perspectives of QOL in CLTI. METHODS Qualitative inquiry with patient and public involvement was performed in accordance with the Standards for Reporting Qualitative Research. Reflexive thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews was conducted within a constructivist-interpretivist research paradigm. Data were organized and managed in NVivo. Techniques to enhance trustworthiness included maintaining an audit trail, member checking, mentoring, and peer-debriefing. Patient and the public were consulted for feedback on codes, themes, and thematic maps. RESULTS Thirteen participants (median age: 74 years, range: 43-90 years) with a variety of patient demographics were interviewed. Four themes were developed on QOL in CLTI: (i) 'independence as key to life satisfaction', (ii) 'change in identity when continuity is needed', (iii) 'coping with intractable disease', and (iv) 'not wanting to be alone'. Member checking with patient and public involvement confirmed the relevance and centrality of these themes to the lived experiences of patients with CLTI. CONCLUSIONS The thematic outputs contribute important insights into what QOL truly means to patients with CLTI and what matters for their QOL. The content validity of the new CLTI-specific QOL instrument is improved by giving patients voice. This study highlights the value of qualitative inquiry and patient and public involvement in vascular surgical research.

Abstract
Caring is a universal phenomenon that influences nurse-patient interactions and feelings, forming the foundation of the nursing profession. How nurses perceive and experience caring in low-income settings is not well understood. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to explore Ethiopian nurses' perceptions and experiences of caring using a qualitative descriptive design. Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted with 13 nurses aged 28-57. Interviews were analyzed inductively using reflexive thematic analysis guided by the recommendations of Braun and Clarke. The analysis resulted in three themes: caring is the heartbeat of patient care, constraints to the provision of care, and ways to overcome constraints. The results revealed that nurses were committed to fulfilling their professional obligations and meeting patients' needs despite experiencing multiple constraints. The findings provide a comprehensive perspective in understanding nurses' experiences of caring. Their narratives demonstrate that they face constraints in their clinical practice, which limit the quality of care, including rotation and lack of resources. Cooperation between health policymakers and nurse authorities is essential for shifting the clinical environment from the prevailing traditional task-oriented approach to patient-centered care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Disproportionate effects of the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic on older adults in post-acute care settings created many professional and ethical challenges for patients and healthcare providers. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to examine the professional and ethical issues of physical therapists (PTs) and physical therapist assistants (PTAs) in providing facility-based post-acute care in residential settings (skilled nursing facilities, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, and long-term acute care hospitals) during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS A qualitative descriptive research design was used to explore professional and ethical issues during the COVID-19 pandemic. PTs and PTAs described their experiences during semi-structured interviews conducted virtually. Interview data was analyzed with reflexive thematic analysis. RESULTS Thematic analysis produced 4 themes: facility-wide battle against infection and death, doing the best you can to provide care amidst COVID-19 constraints, promoting ethical good and doing the right thing, and a dark intense time. CONCLUSIONS Professional and ethical constraints on providing care faced by PTs and PTAs during the COVID-19 pandemic can inform current and future clinical practice. Although some of the challenges faced by PTs and PTAs were unique to COVID-19, many problems represent preexisting systemic and organizational issues that were exacerbated by the pandemic.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite dietitians being important members of the multidisciplinary team delivering family therapy for anorexia nervosa (FT-AN), their specific responsibilities and roles are unclear and their involvement in the treatment can be a contentious issue. METHODOLOGY Clinicians (n = 20) experienced in the delivery of FT-AN who were working at a specialist child and adolescent eating disorder service responded to an online survey about their experience of including a dietitian in FT-AN and how they understand the role. Both categorical and open-ended questions were used. Reflexive thematic analysis was used to analyse the qualitative free-text responses of clinician perspectives on the role of the dietitian in FT-AN. RESULTS All clinicians agreed that dietetics had a role within FT-AN and most frequently sought dietetic involvement in the early phases of FT-AN. Reflexive thematic analysis of responses identified three main themes. These were (1) collaboration is key, (2) confidence as a core consideration and (3) case-by-case approach. These themes evidenced the role of the dietitian within FT-AN and highlighted both the benefits and concerns of this involvement. CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrated that dietitians can take a core role as collaborators within therapy-led teams that facilitate joint working and sharing of expertise. However, dietetic input should be considered on a case-by-case basis, given its potential for creating an over-focus on nutrition and potentially diminishing parental confidence in feeding. When indicated for selected cases, nutritional counselling should be offered in joint sessions with the therapist rather than separately. The findings of the study were limited by the small sample size of participants recruited from a single centre and heterogeneity in the professional background of respondents. Although the integration of dietetics within the multidisciplinary team and the ability of dietitians to individualise patient care can enhance FT-AN treatment, potential benefits and disbenefits should be considered for each case.

Abstract
LAY ABSTRACT This study suggested that social media can provide important information about autism to autistic people. We interviewed 12 autistic adults (aged 18-49 years) and talked to them about the use of social media to find both general information and content specifically about autism, autism identity and online autistic communities. There is little research exploring how autistic people find information about autism on social media and how that makes them feel. Therefore, it is important to ask autistic people about their experiences with using social media to obtain content about autism. The 12 participants explained that when they searched for information about autism on the official health pages, they often felt that the information they found was insufficient and could not answer their questions. In addition, they searched on social media platforms for information about autism despite that they perceived social media as an unreliable source. On the social media platforms, many found content that was positive in relation to their autistic identities. The participants also found comfort in some of the forums and social media groups and received helpful advice. Nevertheless, some of the discussions were aggressive and the participants felt alienated, which did not provide a sense of community online. The findings from the study may advice on what is missing in the official pages about autism, and highlight the need to involve the autistic community in writing the content on such platforms.

Abstract
Introduction Both obesity and sedentary behavior (SB) are associated with negative health consequences including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, certain cancers and all-cause mortality. To date, perceived barriers and facilitators to interrupting SB in adults living with obesity have not been identified. Objective This study aimed to identify these perceived barriers and facilitators by conducting a behavioral analysis underpinned by the theoretical domains framework (TDF) and the Capability, Opportunity, Motivation-Behavior (COM-B) model to enhance knowledge and inform future intervention development. Methods A purposive and snowball sample (N = 21) of adults living with obesity took part in semi-structured interviews, guided by the TDF, to investigate perceived barriers or facilitators to interrupt SB. Transcribed interviews were inductively coded using reflexive thematic analysis. Key themes and subthemes were generated by grouping similar and recurring codes. Finally, subthemes were mapped to the TDF and COM-B. Results Five key themes were identified, which influence SB across all domains of living. These relate to (i) physical and mental wellbeing; (ii) motivational readiness; (iii) roles, responsibilities and support; (iv) weight bias and stigma; and (v) the environment. These themes were then deductively mapped to all 14 TDF domains and all six of the COM-B constructs. Conclusion A complex interplay of individual, societal and policy factors contributes to the development and habituation of SB patterns in adults living with obesity. Factors identified in this study could assist in the development of interventions, strategies and policies designed to interrupt or reduce sedentary behavior in this population.

Abstract
The Act Belong Commit® mental health promotion campaign aims to improve population mental well-being. Based on a social-franchising model, partnerships are sought with organizations offering 'mentally healthy activities' that foster social connectedness and mental well-being. There are four categories of partner organizations sought: Site (government agencies and health services), Associate (organizations with state-wide or national services), Community (local, grass-roots community groups) and Schools. This research explored organizational perceptions of the Act Belong Commit® Partnership Program. A purposive sample of 14 organizational representatives across all four partner categories participated in semi-structured interviews online or face-to-face between July and September 2021. Reflexive thematic analysis was used to identify three main themes: (a) A passion for promoting mental health; (b) Implementation, innovation, adaption and creation (e.g. the ability to adapt, create and deliver activities aligned with the campaign message; and (c) Future sustainability (e.g. recommendations for the sustainability of the programme). The use of reflexive thematic analysis enabled deeper insights into the complexity of the partnerships. Findings describe how the Act Belong Commit® Partnership Program supports mutually desirable objectives and extends the campaign reach. Embedded in a shared belief system that incorporates a passion for good mental health, the model supports the flexibility to adapt, create and deliver fit-for-purpose activities that promote mental well-being in the places where people live, work and play.

Abstract
AIM The aim of this study was to explore the prominent factors that contributed to the development of child and adolescent eating disorder presentations during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS This was achieved through a qualitative analysis of interviews gathered from (1) adolescent patients diagnosed with an eating disorder (ED) during the COVID-19 pandemic (aged 13-18) (n = 4), (2) parents of patients attending an ED service (n = 7) and (3) clinicians working within a specialist child and adolescent ED support service (n = 7). Reflexive thematic analysis was used to analyse the data and establish the most prominent aetiological factors reported. RESULTS The most prominent aetiological factors reported were (1) the accumulation of risk factors; (2) seeking control amid increased anxiety, stress and uncertainty; (3) social isolation; (4) an increased focus on exercise and "healthy eating"; (5) increased social media use promoting unhelpful attention towards ED triggers; and (6) a lack of both awareness and support services. CONCLUSION During the COVID-19 pandemic, the quantity and severity of ED presentations increased. The current study uncovered six themes perceived by patients, parents and clinical staff that contributed to the aetiology of ED presentations during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is hoped that the insight gained through this research study into ED aetiology may act as a basis for further research and support ED awareness, prevention and intervention in the future.

Abstract
Purpose Despite the importance of acknowledging patient preferences in treatment decision-making, little is known about the treatment preferences and the factors underlying those preferences of breast cancer patients. This study aims explore patient experience and perspective regarding treatment preferences and identify the important determinants that shape these preferences in the context of New Zealand. Patients and Methods Semi-structured online interviews comprised of six focus group discussions and five individual interviews were performed with 26 breast cancer patients. The interviews were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using the reflexive thematic analysis approach. Results Four main themes were derived: (1) positive treatment outcomes; (2) the negative impact of treatment-related side effects on quality of life; (3) treatment accessibility, availability, and timeliness; (4) cost of treatment. Patients revealed a strong preference towards treatments that yield longer survival, achieve remission, and prevent cancer recurrence. Additionally, patients favored treatments with minimal side effects that had minimal impact on their quality of life. There was a notable preference for treatments that were easily accessible and available in a timely manner. However, patients faced challenging decisions in balancing the costs of treatments with their benefits, leading to a consistent preference for treatments supported by government funding or medical insurance to alleviate financial burdens. Conclusion Our study reveals that breast cancer patients in New Zealand have different perceptions and preferences regarding cancer treatment. Patients frequently find themselves making trade-offs among various attributes of a treatment, aligning these decisions with their personal values and beliefs. By considering these preferences and trade-offs in future studies that measure patient preferences, healthcare professionals can enhance their support for patients in making informed choices that align with their values and priorities. Additionally, healthcare policymakers can develop patient-centered policies that cater to the unique needs and preferences of breast cancer patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patient and public involvement (PPI) is increasingly considered an integral part of health research, and the focus has shifted from why we need PPI to how users can be involved in a meaningful way. The rationale for investigating experiences with PPI from the perspective of occupational therapy (OT)-trained researchers' originates in the interrelationship between the inclusive approach to knowledge production, and participation and inclusion as core tenets of OT. The aim of this study was to explore PPI in health research from the perspective of OT-trained researchers. METHOD Semi-structured individual interviews were conducted online with nine Norwegian researchers. The interviews were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. RESULTS Professional background and clinical experience from person-centred OT formed the foundation for how these researchers approached and facilitated PPI in their research. Valuing experiential knowledge and facilitating PPI to be meaningful for public collaborators were highlighted as essential for PPI to have an impact. The need to balance mutual expectations, requirements for research, and what might be possible to achieve within a research study were found to be vital. CONCLUSION Collaborative clinical experience constituted a sound foundation for implementing PPI in research. The occupational perspective underlines the importance of acknowledging experiential knowledge as essential to facilitating meaningful PPI. Challenges related to requirements for research and culture for implementing PPI were addressed by clarifying roles and expectations. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION Three public collaborators were involved in developing the aims, the interview guide, and the data analysis. They all had previous experience being involved in research.

Abstract
Previous research has widely recognized the challenges uniformed police officers face in their working lives. However, little is known about the overall lifestyles of police officers, including what they do in private life. We interviewed 17 officers and used reflexive thematic analysis to explore their experiences. The study sheds light on how uniformed police officers navigate the intersection between their private and professional lives, as well as how their professional role impacts their day-to-day doings and private life roles. The key findings relate to how the demands of their professional role impact their private life, such as the profession becoming a way of life. Furthermore, they highlight the challenges of avoiding certain environments where they might be recognized as police officers. It also entails balancing energy levels in work and private life, as well as how their profession's unpredictability affects their daily routines and roles. The findings also show how their personal choices in private life are frequently influenced by their professional role. The study's findings have theoretical as well as practical implications, contributing to a better understanding of uniformed police officers' challenges and resources for a sustainable and healthy lifestyle.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Numerous studies show that negative birth experiences are often related to birthing people's loss of autonomy. We argue that a fetal-focused decision-making framework and a maternal-fetal conflict lens are often applied, creating a false dichotomy between autonomy and fetal beneficence. Given the high prevalence of autonomy-depriving decision-making, it is important to understand how autonomy can be enhanced. METHODS We interviewed 15 Swiss perinatal care practitioners (eight midwives, five physicians, and two doulas) and employed reflexive thematic analysis. We offer a reflection on underlying assumptions and researcher positionality. RESULTS We generated two descriptive themes: advancing and limiting factors of autonomy. Numerous subthemes, grouped at the levels of companion, birthing person, practitioners, birthing person-practitioner relationship, and structural determinants are also defined. The most salient advancing factors were practitioners' approaches to decision-making, antenatal contacts, and structural determinants. The most salient limiting factors were various barriers within birthing people (e.g., expertise, decisional capacity, and awareness of own rights), practitioners' attitudes and behavior, and structural determinants. DISCUSSION The actualization of autonomy is multifactorially determined and must be understood against the background of power structures both underlying and inherent to decision-making in birth. Practitioners attributed a significant proportion of limited autonomy to birthing people themselves. This reinforces a "mother-blame" narrative that absolves obstetrics of primary responsibility. Practitioners' recognition of their contributions to upholding limits on autonomy should be leveraged to implement training towards rights-based practice standards. Most importantly, autonomy can only fully materialize if the underlying sociocultural, political, and medical contexts undergo a fundamental change.

Abstract
AIMS To explore nurse decision-making processes in the delivery of sustained home-visiting care for mothers of young children who are experiencing adversity. DESIGN Qualitative descriptive research design using focus group interviews. METHODS Thirty-two home-visiting nurses participated in four focus group interviews exploring their decision-making in the care they provide to families. The data were analysed using a reflexive thematic analysis approach. RESULTS Four steps of a recurring stepwise decision-making process were identified: (1) information gathering; (2) exploring; (3) implementing; (4) checking. The facilitators and barriers to effective decision-making processes were also identified and included elements relating to good relationship skills, a good attitude, high quality training and mentoring and resources. CONCLUSION The findings indicate that a recurring stepwise process of decision-making requires both analytical and intuitive approaches. The intuition required by home-visiting nurses is to sense unvoiced client needs and identify the right time and way to intervene. The nurses were engaged in adapting the care in response to the client's unique needs while ensuring the fidelity of the programme scope and standards. We recommend creating an enabling working environment with cross-disciplinary team members and having well-developed structures, particularly the feedback systems such as clinical supervision and case reviews. Enhanced skills to establish trusting relationships with clients can help home-visiting nurses make effective decisions with mothers and families, particularly in the face of significant risk. IMPACT This study explored nurse decision-making processes in the context of sustained home-visiting care, which has been largely unexplored in the research literature. Understanding the effective decision-making processes, particularly when nurses customize or individualize the care in response to the client's unique needs, assists with the development of strategies for precision home-visiting care. The identification of facilitators and barriers informs approaches designed to support nurses in effective decision-making.

Abstract
In contexts marked by neoliberal ideology and a claimed "crisis" in men's health, men are responsibilized to be/come healthy. Eating has long been a gendered practice in Western cultures, and recent cultural shifts have produced ways of eating that are both masculinized and (claimed) healthy. Online healthy eating advice, which encourages and supports men to eat healthily, is an important information source. However, such information draws on, reproduces, and/or disrupts existing meanings about men and eating. To understand contemporary representations of men and healthy eating, we examined 30 online media articles oriented specifically to this topic. Using reflexive thematic analysis from a social constructionist position, we developed two themes: A lad's looks and lifestyle and Mind over matter: The masculine mindset. These themes together told an overarching story that healthy eating is effectively sold to men by drawing on traditional or hegemonic ideals of masculinity and effectively evoking access to an enhanced masculinity through healthy eating. While these representational practices may sell healthy eating to men, with likely positive health benefits, they also reinforce hegemonic ideals of masculinity which can be problematic from a health perspective.

Abstract
Purpose Societal change and rise in demand for healthcare call for new health professional practices and task redistribution. Through negotiated order theory, this study explores how hospital rheumatologists (RT) and occupational therapists (OT) negotiate professional tasks in the clinical management of hand osteoarthritis. Methodology Fourteen qualitative interviews and 16 observations in clinical consultations were conducted in two hospitals specialized in rheumatology in Norway. Participants included eight OTs, six RTs, and patients in consultations. Data were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. Results Three themes were developed from codes: hierarchical ordering of hospital work impacts interprofessional negotiations; diagnostic organization of tasks preserves RT authority; and evidence-based recommendations in rheumatology enhance OT responsibilities. Overall, RTs and OTs enact tasks in succession where higher-ranking RTs establish a diagnosis and decide the subsequent in-hospital trajectory entrenched in a medical knowledge system. When medicine does not hold evidence-based treatment alternatives for patients, OTs respond by providing therapeutic interventions that are legitimized through international recommendations in rheumatology when they equip patients with tools to cope with chronic illness. Conclusion Negotiations over tasks do not take place from equal power positions when status and knowledge hierarchies frame professional practices. The enactment of tasks is concurrently highly influenced by the arena of the workplace, where the two professional groups both cross boundaries and work together in concert despite professional differences in order to meet patient interests and provide relevant healthcare.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Kidney stone disease (KSD) is a common, complex and painful urological condition, but how patients make sense of and respond to the challenges of KSD is poorly understood. Using the common-sense model of illness self-regulation (CSM-SR), we aimed to explore the illness experiences of individuals with KSD. DESIGN A qualitative design using individual semi-structured interviews. METHODS Thirty-three patients with KSD attending outpatient urology services participated in interviews informed by the CSM-SR. Data were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. Themes were mapped onto the domains of the CSM-SR. RESULTS Five main themes were generated, broadly echoing domains within the CSM-SR: (1) making sense of KSD, (2) normality paused, (3) the psychological burden of KSD, (4) the tensions of managing KSD, and (5) improving understanding of KSD. Additionally, findings suggested that partners' perceptions of KSD were an additional contextual factor that informed patients' own perceptions and management of KSD. Participants appraised initial KSD symptoms as indicative of a serious health threat. Diagnosis brought some relief, however, KSD wielded multi-dimensional impacts on patients' perceptions, self-management and well-being. Anxiety, including fear of KSD recurrence, and low mood were common psychological burdens across narratives. CONCLUSION The majority of the themes identified were commensurate with an extended CSM-SR. This model has utility in informing how patients perceive and manage KSD. Examining patients' KSD representations and routinely assessing for psychological distress may be of benefit to improve health outcomes for this patient group.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To understand school nurses' perceptions and experiences of moral distress related to COVID-19 case management in the school systems. DESIGN A descriptive qualitative study guided by Braun and Clarke's reflexive thematic analysis. SAMPLE Twelve school nurses practicing in Colorado from December 2021 to January 2022. MEASUREMENTS Semi-structured interviews about school nurses' experiences of COVID-19. Investigators utilized an iterative reflexive thematic analysis process engaging the participants' and researchers' subjective experiences. RESULTS Four themes were created: (1) keeping kids and the community safe, (2) caught in the middle of the "tug of war" between health and politics, (3) distress amid an ocean of COVID-19 uncertainty, and (4) visibility as a bright spot shining through the COVID-19 cloud. CONCLUSIONS Two research questions examined school nurses' experiences of moral distress and their role and scope of practice that affected their relationships in the educational and public health systems. The results of this study confirm the important role of school nurses and interprofessional case management in school environments in the fight against infectious diseases and pandemics. Building stronger relationships between school nurses and public health is imperative for future collaborative and cohesive public health responses to pandemics.

Abstract
AIM The aim of this study was to describe online prelicensure nursing students' experiences of incivility during COVID-19. DESIGN Qualitative descriptive. Five optional open-ended questions were presented to nursing students to share their experiences with incivility during the pandemic. METHODS Data were collected from September to October 2020 as a part of a larger multimethod study on stress, resilience and incivility with nursing students and faculty (n = 710) from a large public undergraduate nursing programme in the southwestern United States. Out of the initial 675 students who completed the survey, 260 individuals responded to three or more of the open-ended questions which were reviewed and coded using reflexive thematic analysis. RESULTS Thirteen themes were organized into four analytical categories: (1) experiencing incivility, (2) causes and consequences of incivility, (3) the pandemic and academic incivility and (4) promoting civility in the academic setting. CONCLUSIONS Prelicensure nursing students perceived unrealistic expectations, a lack of awareness and miscommunication hindered academic performance, as well as, created feelings of stress, discouragement and inadequacy. IMPLICATIONS FOR THE PROFESSION AND/OR PATIENT CARE Fostering academic civility during virtual educational experiences may require training in proper coping strategies when challenged with incivility. IMPACT As the body of research emerges concerning the effects of COVID-19 and undergraduate nursing education, understanding prelicensure students' experiences of academic incivility could prove to be beneficial to designing strategies co-created with students to promote positive educational outcomes. Understanding students' viewpoints of uncivil experiences revealed prioritizing civility awareness is essential in creating healthy academic environments, improving clinical performance and providing safe patient care. Abstract
PURPOSE Rehabilitation outcomes are important for patients, professionals and policy makers. Most outcome measures (OMs) were developed for "Western" contexts and may be inadequate for low-resource and conflict settings, where the ability to demonstrate impact would be critical to strengthening the sector. This study aims to understand perspectives of physiotherapists from challenging environments regarding current practices, value, barriers, and facilitators of measuring rehabilitation outcomes. MATERIALS & METHODS Focus group discussions were held in English with 35 physiotherapists from 18 countries. Audio recordings were transcribed verbatim, anonymised, and analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. RESULTS Four themes emerged illustrating the levels at which outcomes and measures were discussed: User (patients, families), provider (physiotherapists, rehabilitation workers), application (OMs), and structure (management, health system). Participants discussed diversity in current practices and patient populations, utility of OMs and a neglected rehabilitation sector lacking investment. Barriers to progressing outcome measurement included lacking patient health literacy, rehabilitation provider training, valid OMs, and leadership. Participants suggested improved patient involvement, routine outcome measurement by using, developing, or adapting simple, context- and stakeholder-relevant OMs, and support from management. CONCLUSIONS These insights illustrate the need of and provide robust recommendations for context-adapted development of rehabilitation outcome measurement in various challenging contexts.

Abstract
In order to provide adequate support for young tennis players, it is important to understand the development path and factors which can have a positive or negative impact on the development of a player. The aim of this research was to determine the factors that affected sports specialization in tennis by means of qualitative analysis (early, optimal, or late). As well as to deepen the knowledge around the phenomenon of specialization in tennis among players of differing success levels through their personal experiences, in order to contribute to a better understanding of their specialization. The authors interviewed 30 tennis players of differing levels, including 10 participants from the most elite level (Grand Slam champions), exploring their contrasting experiences of development. The data set was analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. Three topics were generated, which included the following: engaging in sport, decisions, and time of specialization. The obtained results offer a stimulus to reflect on numerous aspects of athlete development.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Emergency department (ED) attendance is common among people with dementia and associated with poor health outcomes. Literature suggests a link between access to community care and the ED, but we know little about the mechanisms behind this link. This study aimed to explore experiences of accessing community and emergency care among people affected by dementia. METHODS Informed by critical realism, semi-structured online and telephone interviews were conducted with people with dementia and family caregivers, with and without experience of using the ED. Participants were recruited from across the United Kingdom using purposive sampling with maximum variation. A mostly experiential reflexive thematic analysis approach was used, applying the candidacy model of access to deepen interpretation. RESULTS Two dyad and 33 individual interviews were conducted with 10 people with dementia, 11 current caregivers and 16 bereaved caregivers (men = 11, 70-89 years = 18, white ethnicity = 32). Three themes are reported: (1) Navigating a 'push system', (2) ED as the 'last resort', and (3) Taking dementia 'seriously'. Themes describe a discrepancy between the configuration of services and the needs of people affected by dementia, who resort to the ED in the absence of accessible alternatives. Underlying this discrepancy is a lack of systemic prioritisation of dementia and wider societal stigma. CONCLUSION Although a last resort, ED attendance is frequently the path of least resistance for people with dementia who encounter multiple barriers for timely, responsive access to community health and social care. Greater systemic prioritisation of dementia as a life-limiting condition may help to reduce reliance on the ED through essential development of post-diagnostic care, from diagnosis to the end of life.

Abstract
Introduction Cancer-related dyadic efficacy is an individual's confidence to work together with a partner to conjointly manage the effects of cancer and its treatment. In other health contexts, higher levels of dyadic efficacy have been associated with fewer symptoms of psychological distress and higher ratings of relationship satisfaction. The aim of the current study was to explore patient and partner perspectives on what obstructs and facilitates cancer-related dyadic efficacy. Methods These aims were accomplished through a secondary analysis of data collected as a part of a collective qualitative case study. Participants (N = 17 participants) were patients undergoing treatment or recently completed treatment (within 6 months) for a non-metastatic cancer and their partners. To enable in-depth discussions among participants, data was collected through five focus groups. Participants described obstacles and facilitators of dyadic efficacy as dimensions of a common influence. Consistent with these descriptions, reflexive thematic analysis was used to identify influences on cancer-related dyadic efficacy and their subsequent obstructive and facilitative dimensions. Results Four main categories of influence with the potential to obstruct or facilitate cancer-related dyadic efficacy were identified along with their subthemes: appraisals of the couple relationship (quality and togetherness), communication (pattern and interest in information), coping (strategy and evaluation), and responses to change (in tasks and roles and sex life). Eight obstructive and seven facilitative dimensions of these subthemes were described.Discussion: This first analysis of obstacles and facilitators of couples' cancer-related dyadic efficacy capitalized on the experiential expertise of individuals with cancer and their partners. These thematic results are instructive for the design of dyadic efficacy-enhancing interventions for couples coping with cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE There is a distinct lack of research regarding the relationship with the body in women with endometriosis, despite the condition involving significant changes to appearance and impaired bodily functionality. The current study aimed to understand how women with endometriosis feel about their body. METHODS AND MEASURES Participants completed an online survey with open-ended questions on how they feel about their body, physical appearance, and level of daily functioning. RESULTS Responses from 315 women with endometriosis were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis, generating three themes: 1) 'It makes me feel broken and inadequate' (Sense of being defective); 2) 'I feel like I'm in a war with it' (Sense of conflict); and 3) 'I feel like my body isn't mine; it's out of control' (Sense of alienation). CONCLUSION The findings provide support for the notion that the relationship between the body and sense of self is particularly problematic for women with endometriosis and warrants therapeutic intervention. Future research should verify the efficacy of appreciation and self-compassion-based interventions for people with endometriosis.

Abstract
LAY ABSTRACT Research shows that moving schools can be a challenging time for autistic children and young people. One factor that has been found to support successful transition is friendships. However, there is little research exploring how transition between schools affects autistic children's friendships, and even less on how children's relationships during transition have been impacted by COVID-19. Fourteen parents of autistic children and young people were interviewed about their child's move to a new school and the impact they felt this had on their friendships. Parents described how moving with existing friends helped some children to find the transition less challenging. Others had differing experiences, with their children's friendships playing a much smaller role in the move. Differences were also seen with regard to the impact of COVID-19, with some parents speaking of how hard being away from friends was for their child, while others found the social restrictions a welcome break from interacting with peers. The study highlights how different the experiences of autistic individuals, and their parents, can be and the importance of a child-centred approach to transition support.

Abstract
Individuals whose mental health is becoming a concern may not receive the care they require. Although efforts have been made to reduce barriers to accessing services, including stigma reduction campaigns and healthcare practitioner training, there remains a lack of understanding of individual perspectives regarding help-seeking behaviour. The aim of this study was to explore people's first experiences accessing mental health services. A qualitative descriptive approach was adopted. Interviews were conducted with eight service users. Data were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. The COREQ checklist guided this study (Tong et al., 2007, International Journal for Quality in Health Care, 19, 349). Three themes were identified: learning to navigate an unfamiliar system, making sense of mental health services, and promoting a positive image for those in need of care. Uncertainty about mental health services and stigmatizing images could be mitigated by developing positive media-based interventions. Systemic barriers need to be addressed and services need to be better resourced to ensure the benefits of early intervention are available to those experiencing mental health challenges. To encourage people to access services earlier, services need to be promoted in a positive way.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Research on 'moral injury'-the psychological wound experienced by military personnel and other 'functionaries' whose moral values are violated-has proliferated in recent years. Many psychological researchers, including those in the UK, have subscribed to an increasingly individualised operationalisation of moral injury, with medicalised criteria that closely mirrors PTSD. This trend carries assumptions that have not been comprehensively verified by empirical research. This study aims to explore UK military veterans' experiences of, and challenges to, their moral values in relation to their deployment experiences, without prematurely foreclosing exploration of wider systemic influences. METHOD Twelve UK military veterans who served in Afghanistan and/or Iraq were interviewed, and the data were analysed thematically and reflexively. RESULTS Three inter-related themes were generated: (1) 'you've been undermined', (2) 'how am I involved in this?' and (3) 'civilianised'. CONCLUSIONS The analysis suggests that several assumptions privileged in moral injury research may be empirically contradicted, at least in relation to the experiences of UK military veterans. These assumptions include that moral injury is exclusively driven by individual, episodic acts of commission and omission, invariably leads to guilt and necessarily bifurcates into variants of either perpetration or betrayal. Instead, participants understood the moral violations they experienced as socially contingent. Rather than 'treating' moral injury as a disorder of thinking and feeling located within an individual, the socially contextualised understanding of moral injury indicated by this study's findings may prompt the development of psychological and social interventions that understand moral injury as the fallout of what occurs between people and within systems.

Abstract
AIM To follow up on the experiences of Registered Nurses (RNs) working after 1 year of the COVID-19 pandemic in Canadian and American hospitals. DESIGN Semi-structured interviews were conducted, and transcripts were analysed through a reflexive thematic analysis (RTA). METHODS RNs (n = 19) first interviewed in the spring of 2020 were re-interviewed 1 year after their original interviews (May 25, 2021-June 25, 2021). Participants consisted of nurses residing in Canada and working in Ontario (n = 12) or American hospitals (n = 7), i.e., both local and cross-border nurses. RESULTS Five themes were identified: (1) "You call us heroes, but you forgot us": Nurses described experiences of disrespect and stigma from their communities, their government, and their workplaces. (2) "A whole new level of busy": Nurses reported stressors both at home and at work that had increased exponentially throughout the pandemic. (3) "Running on empty": Nurses described burnout and mental health struggles including depression, irritation, and suicidal ideation; they coped using both adaptive and maladaptive strategies. (4) "The job of nursing is painful": Ongoing pandemic issues led nurses to re-evaluate their commitments to their units, their hospitals and the profession itself. (5) "Surviving an un-survivable day": Nurses shared positive moments at work and home that helped give them the strength to carry on. CONCLUSION Significant investments will be required from hospital organizations and governments to ensure that healthcare systems continue to function safely for patients, their families and nurses. IMPACT The purpose of this study was to understand and describe nurses' experiences after 1 year of working during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nurses reported feeling disrespected, overwhelmed, and burned out; many were looking to leave the profession. These findings will be of interest to nurses working on the frontline of the pandemic as well as hospital managers and policy makers. Abstract
Yoga is an embodied practice underpinned by philosophical elements, seeking to evolve different dimensions of human existence for optimal functioning in relation to oneself, others and beyond. This mixed-methods research focused on 137 regular Ashtanga Yoga practitioners (AYPs) by investigating their conceptualizations of five dimensions of wellbeing (i.e., physical, emotional, psychological, social, spiritual). Conceptualizations were analysed through word count analysis and Reflexive Thematic Analysis separately for each dimension, yielding four themes in each case, which partly aligned with existing wellbeing and yoga models, and partly extended on the existing literature. Further higher level analysis identified shared meanings across these five dimensions, expressed in themes grouped within five topics (i.e., freedom from and managing suffering, a positive and integrated sense of self, a sense of equanimity and steadiness, the self in relation to others and the world, meta-awareness). Furthermore, it also portrayed each dimension as multileveled, represented in three levels of human functioning. The foundational level encompassed the absence and managing suffering, representing functioning in coping and recovery mode. The optimal functioning level included a positive and integrated sense of self, a sense of equanimity and steadiness, and the self in relation to others and the world, representing functioning in personal development and growth mode. The contemplative and transcendental level involved meta-awareness in every dimension of wellbeing, representing functioning in transpersonal mode. As a result, we propose a preliminary model informed both by this empirical work and previous theories. While the continuousness of themes across dimensions reinforces the importance of embodiment and transcendence in wellbeing frameworks, the notion of the self as a multi-level system could be further explored in relation to knowing about and cultivating wellbeing.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Formulation is considered a fundamental process of cognitive behavioural therapy for psychosis (CBTp). However, an exploration into the personal impact of different levels of case formulation (CF) from a service user perspective (SU) is lacking, particularly for those experiencing a first episode of psychosis. DESIGN This Big Q qualitative design used semi-structured interviews. METHODS Reflexive thematic analysis (TA) was used to analyse 10 participant interviews. NVivo 12 computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software aided data organisation and analysis. RESULTS One overarching theme 'CF - A vehicle for change?' was developed as a pattern of shared meaning across the data set. Three main themes related to the overarching theme: (1) Vicious cycles: 'I never really thought about it being me maintaining the problems' (including one subtheme - Self-empowerment: 'Only you can make the changes for yourself'); (2) Early life experiences: 'My experiences have shaped the person that I am, therefore, it's not my fault' (including one subtheme - Disempowerment: '[My] core beliefs have been damaged'); and (3) Keep it simple: 'Don't push it too far over the top in case it becomes like spaghetti'. CONCLUSIONS Maintenance formulations may be experienced as self-blaming, but also self-empowering, which may help to facilitate change. Longitudinal formulations may be experienced as non-blaming, but also disempowering, which may inhibit change. Simple CF diagrams may also facilitate change, whereas overly complex CFs may inhibit change. How CBTp therapists might look to improve the impact of different levels of CF for service users (SUs) in first episode psychosis (FEP) are described.

Abstract
PURPOSE To explore the experiences, views and beliefs of people with severe haemophilia and healthcare professionals (HCPs) on approaches for pain management, as well as their views on exercise being used as an aspect of management. METHODS Taking a qualitative inquiry approach using focus groups and semi-structured interviews, participants included people with severe haemophilia living with chronic pain and haemophilia HCPs. Data were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. RESULTS Fourteen men with haemophilia with a median age of 47 (range 23-73) and six haemophilia HCPs agreed to participate. Of the people with haemophilia, 11 attended two focus groups and three were interviewed over telephone. Healthcare professionals were interviewed face-to-face. Two themes were conceptualised from the data: (i) haemophilia management and pain management is discordant (imbalance between good haemophilia care but poor pain management, historical medico-social influences on pain management, the need for trust); (ii) uncertain about exercise but clear on what matters (conflicting views on exercise, the need for proof of safety, personalised care). CONCLUSIONS Options for effective pain management remain limited and what is used is heavily influenced by beliefs and experience. Exercise as a treatment option in pain management is conceptually acceptable for people with haemophilia. Effective pain management requires understanding of individual beliefs and fears, and a personalised approach supported by knowledgeable, trusted clinicians.Implications for rehabilitationMusculoskeletal joint pain and its relationship with bleeding in people with haemophilia continues to be a management challenge.Current pain management strategies are of limited effectiveness with little evidence of an approach that reflects the multi-modal pain experience.Whilst exercise and rehabilitation approaches are conceptually possible for people with severe haemophilia, barriers remain regarding perception of overall safety and effectiveness.People with severe haemophilia may consider exercise as part of a pain management strategy if it is individualised, and they are supported to do it by clinicians who understand them and their haemophilia.

Abstract
This study explored the psychological and physical well-being of 12 Ghanaian women diagnosed with breast cancer, aged between 22 and 69 years. Individual in-depth interviews were conducted with participants to understand their lived experiences following their diagnosis and treatment. Reflexive thematic analysis was used to analyse the transcripts. Findings revealed that patients' psychological and physical well-being relative to breast cancer diagnosis and treatment are marked by (a) persistent pain, (b) concerns with physical appearance, (c) a willingness to lose a breast for survival, (d) positive religious coping, and (e) posttraumatic growth (i.e., positive psychological changes in the aftermath of diagnosis or treatment). The findings suggest that recognising patients' concerns with pain, physical changes, and the will to lose a breast to survive in the care continuum may yield public health dividends. Moreover, the findings highlight the need for individualised psychotherapeutic interventions to assist the patients to deal with the disease in the aftermath of their diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract
PURPOSE To explore the life experiences of pain in people with severe haemophilia and understand how such experiences influence beliefs and sensation of pain in adulthood. METHODS A qualitative inquiry approach using focus groups and semi-structured individual interviews was used. Participants included people with severe haemophilia living with chronic pain. Data were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. RESULTS Fourteen men with a median age of 47 (range 23-73) agreed to take part. Eleven participated in two focus groups and three were interviewed over telephone. Two themes were conceptualised from the data: (i) haemophilia and pain - an evolving life biography (the personal narrative, historical, social, and medical context, continuous adaptation of activity choices, surveillance of pain and its meaning); (ii) "My normal isn't normal" - identity and self-agency (pain as a feature of life and identify with severe haemophilia, loss of enjoyable activities balanced against staying active, barriers to participation). CONCLUSIONS Pain is a constantly evolving, lifetime feature for many adults with haemophilia and it is viewed as part of their identity with their condition. Healthcare professionals working in haemophilia should try to better understand the influence of an individuals lived experience with their haemophilia on beliefs and behaviours of pain.Implications for rehabilitationSevere haemophilia is a rare bleeding disorder that results in musculoskeletal joint disease.Adults with severe haemophilia have experienced multiple episodes of bleeding related musculoskeletal pain since childhood.Pain beliefs and behaviours in adulthood appear to be influenced by a lifetime of painful experiences associated with haemophilia.In order to better support people with haemophilia and chronic pain, healthcare professionals in haemophilia need to better understand how an individuals lived experience of pain helps inform their beliefs about it.

Abstract
Organizational health literacy (OHL) is crucial for public health, in turn health care organizations play vital roles in improving populations' health literacy. Therefore, the aim of this qualitative study was to explore how the organizational health literacy self-assessment tool (OHL Self-AsseT) was implemented, used, and understood by primary care teams from a network of general practices and a Home Care Service Organization in Zurich, Switzerland. Reflexive thematic analysis with a constructivist orientation was used to analyze data from 19 interviews pre- and post-OHL Self-AsseT use. Normalization Process Theory supported structuring of inductively developed themes. Findings show that the participants experienced working with the OHL Self-AsseT meaningful, as it helped with "Addressing OHL construction sites" so that they could "build momentum for change". The experience of "Succeeding together in construction" led to a "feeling of team-efficacy during change". Practical use of the tool and/or discussions about OHL led to a growing conceptual understanding, which was described as "Using a construction plan-making sense of ongoing OHL activities". To conclude, the OHL Self-AsseT encouraged teams to initiate change, led to greater team-efficacy and supported the construction of OHL. Improved implementation strategies will support this intervention's scale-up as a base for effectiveness testing.

Disclosing Gender-Based Violence: A Qualitative Analysis of Professionals' and Women's Perspectives through a Discursive Approach. Abstract
Supporting women to disclose gender-based violence (GBV) is a central feature of how healthcare and other welfare services address this problem. In this paper we take a discursive approach to analyse the process of disclosing GBV from the perspectives of young women who have been subjected to GBV and professionals working in the welfare system. Through a reflective thematic analysis of 13 interviews with young women who have been subjected to GBV and 17 with professionals working in different sectors of the welfare system, we developed four themes about how disclosure is perceived: (i) as a conversation between acquaintances; (ii) as 'no solution'; (iii) as a possible prerequisite for action; and (iv) as difficult because GBV is normalised. Even if disclosure is not the solution per se, it makes it possible to respond institutionally to GBV on an individual basis through the figure of the expert professional who is alert to signs, knows how to support disclosure, and has the power to legitimate women's claims of GBV. We acknowledge the possibilities that supporting disclosure brings for women subjected to GBV, but at the same time, problematise that it can re-centre expertise in the professional and place the responsibility on women.

Abstract
A substantial number of patients report persisting symptoms after a COVID-19 infection: so-called post-COVID-19 syndrome. There is limited research on patients' perspectives on post-COVID-19 symptoms and ways to recover. This qualitative study explored the illness perceptions and recovery strategies of patients who had been hospitalised for COVID-19. Differences between recovered and non-recovered patients were investigated. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were held with 24 participating patients (8 recovered and 16 non-recovered) 7 to 12 months after hospital discharge. Data were interpreted using reflexive thematic analysis. Four overarching themes were identified: (I) symptoms after hospital discharge; (II) impact of COVID-19 on daily life and self-identity; (III) uncertainty about COVID-19; and (IV) dealing with COVID-19. Formerly hospitalised post-COVID-19 patients seem to have difficulties with making sense of their illness and gaining control over their recovery. The majority of non-recovered participants continue to suffer mostly from weakness or fatigue, dyspnoea and cognitive dysfunction. No notable differences in illness beliefs were observed between recovered and non-recovered participants.

Abstract
AIM To develop a taxonomy of positive and negative occupational and organisational factors reported that impact the mental health of veterinary professionals. METHODS Veterinary professionals working in Australasia were surveyed between February and June of 2021. The survey comprised two questions related to participants' perceptions of the positive and negative aspects of their job role that impact their mental health and wellbeing. Reflexive thematic analysis was employed to analyse the responses and generate two taxonomies of occupational and organisation stressors and protectors reported by participants. RESULTS Fifty-three responses from veterinary professionals were analysed. The final stressor taxonomy generated contained 9 overarching themes and 36 subthemes. The most common of these were negative work conditions, challenging relationships with clients, and adverse events and patient outcomes. The taxonomy of protectors contained 11 overarching themes and 32 subthemes, with the most common including fulfillment and satisfaction, positive work conditions, and relationships with colleagues. CONCLUSION This study is the first to examine both positive and negative factors in the veterinary industry reported by veterinary professionals in Australasia. The results highlighted stressors that can be addressed on both an individual and organisational level to promote the mental and health well-being of professionals working in the animal care industry.

Abstract
This study investigated personal perceptions (involvements) and comprehensions (interpretations) of self-ascribed paranormal abilities. Twelve participants with supposed supernatural powers took part in semi-structured interviews exploring the origin, phenomenology, and nature of their powers. Interview transcripts were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis (RTA), a qualitative method that identifies patterns within data. Four major themes expressed meanings and representations held by participants: Formative Influences (sub-themes: Gifted Family Members and Anomalous Occurrence), (Inter) Subjective Paranormal Experience (sub-themes: Transcendental/Mystic and Extra-Sensory Perception), Embodied Processes (sub-theme: Control), and Perception of Reality (two sub-themes: Self-Awareness and Fantastic/Surreal Perceptions). Consideration of themes identified an inextricable link between perception, interpretation, and belief in ability. Within narratives, interviewees outlined, contextualised, and established the validity of their powers. They drew upon supporting autobiographical evidence from their life histories and obfuscated and/or discounted conventional explanations. Generally, accounts reflected individual attempts to comprehend and justify the nature and experience of professed abilities. The authors discuss these processes and suggest ways to extend and develop ensuing research.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Little is currently understood about the nature of nurses' knowledge in the context of wound management or the impact of limitations in evidence and education on clinical and educational outcomes. AIM The purpose of this study was to gain a rich and detailed understanding of the origins and nature of knowledge in generalist and specialist nurses with a key role in the delivery of wound management. DESIGN A qualitative reflexive thematic analysis was carried out on data gathered. METHOD Semi-structured interviews with five wound management specialists and five wound management generalist nurses were carried out between July 2019 and May 2020. Chinn and Kramer's patterns of knowing (2015) was applied as a conceptual framework from which to explore nursing knowledge in the context of wound management. RESULTS Seven main themes and 16 subthemes were generated: the bigger picture; the smaller picture; it all comes together at the bedside; show me the evidence; industry: a political football; do good not harm; the power isn't ours; and I'm not that creative…but. CONCLUSION The knowledge that nurses apply in wound management is multidimensional, contextual, and highly integrated; with components that are unique from nursing knowledge in the wider sense. Although the patterns of knowing in wound management are well integrated, they are not equally represented and the types of knowledge that nurses demonstrate is not consistently aligned with those that they value. IMPACT Significant distinctions were not found between wound management specialist and generalists, however specific traits were identified in the knowledge development of those working in a community role and industry represents a unique influencing factor in the context of wound management knowledge formation.

Abstract
Since the end of 2019 and throughout 2020, the world has been devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The sports world suddenly had to deal with a massive reorganization of events with important implications for the physical and psychological preparation of athletes and coaches. The purpose of this study was to explore how these changes impacted coaches’ and athletes’ goal-setting strategies and their experience of goal adjustment. As part of a wider mixed-method project involving 2162 coaches and 1354 athletes, an online qualitative survey was used, and data collected were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. Findings highlighted three overarching themes, in response to goal adjustment: “Moving on toward new goals”, “Letting go of goals”, and “Trying to hold on”, with several themes and sub-themes identifying different nuances of athletes’ and coaches’ experiences. The implications of such findings for the mental preparation of high-level athletes are discussed in two ways. Firstly, in light of existing literature on goal setting from an applied perspective; secondly, in the broader perspective of the sports culture and the application of our themes to other challenging moments that sports professionals might encounter.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Occupational therapy entry-level education is integral to how students obtain deep understanding of occupational therapy's core philosophy of occupation and its place in practice. However, there is a lack of research that explores occupation-centred education from the perspectives of students. Therefore, this study aimed to identify Australian entry-level occupational therapy students' experiences of learning about occupation, and its place in practice. METHODS A qualitative descriptive design was adopted. Overall, 20 students participated in four focus groups lasting between 45 and 75 min. Data were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. Transcripts were analysed in two phases, using reflexive thematic analysis. FINDINGS There were three themes that encapsulated what helped students to better understand occupation and its place in practice: (1) making occupation real; (2) relating occupation to me; and (3) theory as a focussing lens. There was also a range of pedagogical strategies that helped students to better understand occupation: using active and interactive teaching and learning strategies. One additional theme indicated a challenge to helping the students understand occupation and its place practice: when practice education settings were not centred on occupation. CONCLUSION Learning about occupation and occupation-centred practice may be facilitated by using practice examples, encouraging students to think about occupation in their own lives, teaching and applying occupation-centred theory, and employing interactive learning and teaching strategies. Student learning in practice settings where occupational therapy is centred on occupation is imperative. Further exploration of students' perspectives of learning about occupation across multiple occupational therapy programmes is warranted.

Abstract
Ambulance service organizations worldwide report about an expanding professional role, responsibilities and scope of practice for ambulance clinicians, resulting in discussions concerning educational design and desired professional competencies. To face the contemporary demands in ambulance care, non-technical skills are advocated and clinical practice considered fundamental for the development of these abilities. However, there is very little research concerning educational strategies for supporting the desired competencies for novice registered nurses in the ambulance service. AIM To describe and explore nurse preceptors' experience-based strategies for supporting registered nurses learning in the ambulance service. DESIGN The study had an inductive and data-driven approach, guided by phenomenological epistemology. METHODS Twenty-seven Swedish nurse preceptors were interviewed in three focus groups and four dyadic interviews between October 2019 and April 2020. The data were analysed with reflexive thematic analysis. FINDINGS The nurse preceptors use several learning strategies, focusing on a socialization process and a clinical competence process, intertwined during clinical practice to support the development of a situated professional identity and a clinical decision-making competence. Supportive structures facilitate a progressive learning strategy when addressing desired skills and cognitive abilities in teamwork processes and clinical judgement. CONCLUSION Supporting novice clinicians, prior to and during clinical practice in the ambulance service, should include medical assessment skills, situation awareness and processes for effective teamwork. Further, novice clinicians need to develop complex cognitive abilities to deal with the dynamic nature of decision-making in ambulance care. IMPACT The study findings show contextual strategies, previously not described and desired competencies when supporting learning for registered nurses in the ambulance service. A theoretical grounding in episteme, techne, phronesis and situation awareness may guide educators at universities, managers in the ambulance service, preceptors and novice clinicians worldwide in the planning and performance of teaching and learning in the ambulance service.

Abstract
AIM To explore the experience of nurse managers managing maternal and child health nurses undertaking family violence work in Victoria, Australia. BACKGROUND Health care practitioners' ability to address violence against women is strengthened by health service systems that include effective staff management and leadership. Maternal and child health nurses work with women experiencing abuse; however, their support by the health system and their managers has not been examined. METHOD Semi-structured interviews with 12 nurse managers in 2019-2020 explored how they supervised and managed nurses. The data were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. RESULTS We identified three themes-(a) managing the service: being resourceful; (b) supporting nurses' emotional safety; and (c) hitting the ground running: the demands on the manager. CONCLUSION Inadequate support for nurse managers undermines workplace well-being and role satisfaction, impacting the safety and supervision of nurses doing family violence work. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING MANAGEMENT An integrated family violence systems approach must include improved training and support for nurse managers to enable reflective practice and ensure effective support for nurses working with women experiencing abuse.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Person-centred care is widely recognised as important for helping people with dementia maintain a sense of self and purpose in life - especially for those living in care facilities. Despite this, most care practices still adopt a medical approach in which physical needs are prioritized over psychosocial well-being. Addressing the need to find ways of promoting person-centred approaches in care, this study explored care professionals' reflections on a novel, technological intervention (SENSE-GARDEN) that combines multisensory stimuli and digital media to create personalized environments for people with dementia. The aim of this study was to explore the experiences of care professionals who had used SENSE-GARDEN for approximately 1 year. METHODS Three care homes in Norway, Belgium, and Portugal and 1 hospital in Romania used the SENSE-GARDEN with residents/patients with moderate to severe dementia over the course of 1 year. Qualitative data - including observations and interviews with 2 care professionals - were collected at the beginning of the study period from the Norwegian care home to explore initial impressions of the new SENSE-GARDEN room. At the end of the study period, 8 care professionals across the 4 facilities were interviewed for an in-depth exploration of their experiences. The two sets of data were analysed separately through reflexive thematic analysis. RESULTS At the beginning of the study period, the staffs' focus was mainly on the novelty of the new SENSE-GARDEN room and how it provided opportunities for meaningful experiences. Post-intervention, the care professionals provided reflective accounts on how care could be delivered in alternative ways to standard practice. The themes generated from the post-intervention interviews were: "shifting focus onto personalized care", "building and fostering relationships", and "continuous discoveries". Through delivering person-centred care, the professionals reported a sense of purpose and achievement in their work. CONCLUSIONS Professionals from care facilities across 4 different countries highlighted the value of interventions such as SENSE-GARDEN as a way of creating opportunities to better know people with dementia. Thus, they experienced improved relationships and greater job satisfaction. However, delivering person-centred interventions is time-consuming, and future research should evaluate the feasibility of sustaining them on a long-term basis.
