Abstract
As a serious cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis (AS) causes chronic inflammation and oxidative stress in the body and poses a threat to human health. Lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) is a member of the phospholipase A2 (PLA2) family, and its elevated levels have been shown to contribute to AS. Lp-PLA2 is closely related to a variety of lipoproteins, and its role in promoting inflammatory responses and oxidative stress in AS is mainly achieved by hydrolyzing oxidized phosphatidylcholine (oxPC) to produce lysophosphatidylcholine (lysoPC). Moreover, macrophage apoptosis within plaque is promoted by localized Lp-PLA2 which also promotes plaque instability. This paper reviews those researches of Chinese medicine in treating AS via reducing Lp-PLA2 levels to guide future experimental studies and clinical applications related to AS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Prolonged sitting and reduced physical activity lead to low energy expenditures. However, little is known about the joint impact of daily sitting time and physical activity on body fat distribution. We investigated the independent and joint associations of daily sitting time and physical activity with body fat among adults. METHODS This was a cross-sectional analysis of U.S. nationally representative data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2011-2018 among adults aged 20 years or older. Daily sitting time and leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) were self-reported using the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire. Body fat (total and trunk fat percentage) was determined via dual X-ray absorptiometry. RESULTS Among 10,808 adults, about 54.6% spent 6 h/day or more sitting; more than one-half reported no LTPA (inactive) or less than 150 min/week LTPA (insufficiently active) with only 43.3% reported 150 min/week or more LTPA (active) in the past week. After fully adjusting for sociodemographic data, lifestyle behaviors, and chronic conditions, prolonged sitting time and low levels of LTPA were associated with higher total and trunk fat percentages in both sexes. When stratifying by LTPA, the association between daily sitting time and body fat appeared to be stronger in those who were inactive/insufficiently active. In the joint analyses, inactive/insufficiently active adults who reported sitting more than 8 h/day had the highest total (female: 3.99% (95% confidence interval (95%CI): 3.09%-4.88%); male: 3.79% (95%CI: 2.75%-4.82%)) and trunk body fat percentages (female: 4.21% (95%CI: 3.09%-5.32%); male: 4.07% (95%CI: 2.95%-5.19%)) when compared with those who were active and sitting less than 4 h/day. CONCLUSION Prolonged daily sitting time was associated with increased body fat among U.S. adults. The higher body fat associated with 6 h/day sitting may not be offset by achieving recommended levels of physical activity.

Abstract
PURPOSE To identify audiological and demographic variables that predict speech recognition abilities in patients with bilateral microtia who underwent Bonebridge (BB) implantation. METHODS Fifty patients with bilateral microtia and bilateral conductive hearing loss (CHL) who underwent BB implantation were included. Demographic data, preoperative hearing aid use experience, and audiological outcomes (including pure-tone hearing threshold, sound field hearing threshold [SFHT], and speech recognition ability) for each participant were obtained. The Chinese-Mandarin Speech Test Materials were used to test speech recognition ability. The word recognition score (WRS) of disyllabic words at 65 dB SPL signals was measured before and after BB implantation in quiet and noisy conditions. RESULTS The mean preoperative WRS under quiet and noisy conditions was 10.44 ± 12.73% and 5.90 ± 8.76%, which was significantly improved to 86.38 ± 9.03% and 80.70 ± 11.34%, respectively, following BB fitting. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that lower preoperative SFHT suggested higher preoperative WRS under both quiet and noisy conditions. Higher age at implantation predicted higher preoperative WRS under quiet conditions. Furthermore, patients with more preoperative hearing aid experience and lower postoperative SFHT were more likely to have higher postoperative WRS under both quiet and noisy testing conditions. CONCLUSIONS This study represents the first attempt to identify predictors of preoperative and postoperative speech recognition abilities in patients with bilateral microtia with BB implantation. These findings emphasize that early hearing intervention before implantation surgery, combined with appropriate postoperative fitting, contributes to optimal benefits in terms of postoperative speech recognition ability.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is the most frequent complication in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). It causes a chronic and progressive decline in kidney function, and ultimately patients require renal replacement therapy. To date, an increasing number of clinical studies have been conducted to explore the potential and novel biomarkers, which can advance the diagnosis, estimate the prognosis, and optimize the therapeutic strategies at the early stage of DKD. In the current study, we sought to investigate the association of plasma myoglobin with DKD. METHODS A total of 355 T2DM patients with DKD and 710 T2DM patients without DKD were enrolled in this study. Laboratory parameters including blood cell count, hemoglobin A1c, biochemical parameters, and plasma myoglobin were recorded. Patients were classified on admission according to the tertile of myoglobin and clinical parameters were compared between the groups. Pearson correlation analysis, linear regression, logistic regression, receiver operating characteristics (ROC) analysis, and spline regression were performed. RESULTS Plasma myoglobin significantly increased in patients with DKD and was associated with renal function and inflammatory parameters. Plasma myoglobin was an independent risk factor for the development of DKD. The area under ROC curve of myoglobin was 0.831. Spline regression showed that there was a significant linear association between DKD incidence and a high level of plasma myoglobin when it exceeded 36.4 mg/mL. CONCLUSIONS This study shows that elevated plasma myoglobin level is closely associated with the development of kidney injury in patients with T2DM.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Metallothioneins (MTs) have a strong affinity for zinc (Zn) and remain at a sufficiently high level in mitochondria. As the avian embryo is highly susceptible to oxidative damage and relatively easy to manipulate in a naturally closed chamber, it is an ideal model of the effects of oxidative stress on mitochondrial function. However, the protective roles and molecular mechanisms of Zn-inducible protein expression on mitochondrial function in response to various stressors are poorly understood. OBJECTIVES The study aimed to investigate the mechanisms by which Zn-induced MT4 expression protects mitochondrial function and energy metabolism subjected to oxidative stress using the avian embryo and embryonic primary hepatocyte models. METHODS First, we investigated whether MT4 expression alters mitochondrial function. Then, we examined the effects of Zn-induced MT4 overexpression and MT4 silencing on embryonic primary hepatocytes from breeder hens fed a normal Zn diet subjected to a tert-butyl hydroperoxide (BHP) oxidative stress challenge during incubation. In vivo, the avian embryos from hens fed the Zn-deficient and Zn-adequate diets were used to determine the protective roles of Zn-induced MT4 expression on the function of mitochondria exposed to oxidative stress induced by in ovo BHP injection. RESULTS An in vitro study revealed that Zn-induced MT4 expression reduced reactive oxygen species accumulation in primary hepatocytes. MT4 silencing exacerbated BHP-mediated mitochondrial dysfunction whereas Zn-inducible MT4 overexpression mitigated it. Another in vivo study disclosed that maternal Zn-induced MT4 expression protected mitochondrial function in chick embryo hepatocytes against oxidative stress by inhibiting the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ coactivator-1α (PGC-1α)/peroxisome proliferators-activated receptor-γ (PPAR-γ) pathway. CONCLUSION This study underscores the potential protective roles of Zn-induced MT4 expression via the downregulation of the PGC-1α/PPAR-γ pathway on mitochondrial function stimulated by the stress challenge in the primary hepatocytes in an avian embryo model. Our findings suggested that Zn-induced MT4 expression could provide a new therapeutic target and preventive strategy for repairing mitochondrial dysfunction in disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The anterolateral thigh flap (ALTF) is a kind of lateral thigh flap that uses branches of the lateral circumflex femoral artery (LCFA) as the vessel pedicle and is widely used in plastic surgery. During classic ALTF surgery, some perforators from the descending branch of the lateral circumflex femoral artery (LCFA-db) are hard to harvest due to their anatomical variants and individual differences; thus, it is necessary to design an appropriate alternative surgical plan. The transverse branch of the LCFA (LCFA-tb) has unique advantages and can be a potential complement to ALTF vascular pedicle selection. The aim of this study was to compare the difference in morphology between LCFA-db and LCFA-tb, and to verify the feasibility and clinical effect of ALTF with LCFA-tb as the source artery. METHODS The morphological and clinical data of patients who underwent wound repair of the extremities with the ALTF pedicled with the LCFA-tb and LCFA-db were retrospectively analyzed. This study consisted of the clinical data of 62 patients who accepted an ALTF pedicled with LCFA-tb, and 45 patients accepted an ALTF pedicled with LCFA-db. RESULTS A total of 68 cutaneous perforators originating from the LCFA-tb were found in the surgical field, of which 35 perforators were direct cutaneous perforators (51.5%), 28 perforators were septocutaneous perforators (41.2%), and 5 perforators were musculocutaneous perforators (7.3%). Seventy-four cutaneous perforators were found in the LCFA-db group. The proportions of septocutaneous perforators and musculocutaneous perforators were 23% and 77%, respectively, and the number of direct cutaneous perforators was 0. The harvest time of flaps pedicled with LCFA-tb was remarkably shortened. Regarding prognosis, there were no significant differences between the curative effects of the 2 types of flaps. CONCLUSIONS This study verified that most LCFA-tb perforators are direct cutaneous perforators and that the piercing-in positions of LCFA-tb perforators on superficial fascia were higher than those of LCFA-db perforators. Furthermore, the ALTF pedicled with LCFA-tb can provide satisfactory soft tissue reconstruction and can be used as a useful supplement to the traditional flap design.

Abstract
Objectives: We explored the role and molecular mechanisms of RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) and their regulated alternative splicing events (RASEs) in the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis (AD). Methods: We downloaded RNA-seq data (GSE121212) from 10 healthy control skin samples (healthy, Ctrl), 10 non-lesional skin samples with AD damage (non-lesional, NL), and 10 lesional skin samples with AD damage (lesional, LS). We performed the analysis of differentially expressed genes (DEGs), differentially expressed RBPs (DE-RBPs), alternative splicing (AS), functional enrichment, the co-expression of RBPs and RASEs, and quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Results: We identified 60 DE-RBP genes by intersecting 2141 RBP genes from existing reports with overall 2697 DEGs. Most of the DE-RBP genes were found to be upregulated in the AD LS group and related to immune and apoptosis pathways. We observed different ASEs and RASEs among the healthy, AD NL, and AD LS groups. In particular, alt3p and alt5p were the main ASEs and RASEs in AD NL and AD LS groups, compared to the healthy group. Furthermore, we constructed co-expression networks of DE-RBPs and RAS, with particular enrichment in biological pathways including cytoskeleton organization, inflammation, and immunity. Subsequently, we selected seven genes that are commonly present in these three pathways to assess their expression levels in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from both healthy individuals and AD patients. The results demonstrated the upregulation of four genes (IFI16, S100A9, PKM, and ENO1) in the PBMCs of AD patients, which is highly consistent with DE-RBP genes analysis. Finally, we selected four RAS genes regulated by RBPs that were related to immune pathways and examined their RASEs in PBMCs from both AD patients and healthy controls. The results revealed an increased percentage of RASEs in the DDX60 gene in AD, which is highly consistent with AS analysis. Conclusion: Dysregulated RBPs and their associated RASEs may have a significant regulatory role in the development of AD and could be potential therapeutic targets in the future.

Abstract
BACKGROUND With the widespread prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases (NDs) and high rates of mortality and disability, it is imminent to find accurate targets for intervention. There is growing evidence that neuroimmunity is pivotal in the pathology of NDs and that interventions targeting neuroimmunity hold great promise. Exogenous or dislocated nucleic acids activate the cytosolic DNA sensor cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS), activating the stimulator of interferon genes (STING). The activated STING triggers innate immune responses and then the cGAS-STING signaling pathway links abnormal nucleic acid sensing to the immune response. Recently, numerous studies have shown that neuroinflammation regulated by cGAS-STING signaling plays an essential role in NDs. AIMS In this review, we summarized the mechanism of cGAS-STING signaling in NDs and focused on inhibitors targeting cGAS-STING. CONCLUSION The cGAS-STING signaling plays an important role in the pathogenesis of NDs. Inhibiting the cGAS-STING signaling may provide new measures in the treatment of NDs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Several studies have proposed grading systems for risk stratification of early-stage lung adenocarcinoma based on histological patterns. However, the reproducibility of these systems is poor in clinical practice, indicating the need to develop a new grading system which is easy to apply and has high accuracy in prognostic stratification of patients. METHODS Patients with stage I invasive nonmucinous lung adenocarcinoma were retrospectively collected from pathology archives between 2009 and 2016. The patients were divided into a training and validation set at a 6:4 ratio. Histological features associated with patient outcomes (overall survival [OS] and progression-free survival [PFS]) identified in the training set were used to construct a new grading system. The newly proposed system was validated using the validation set. Survival differences between subgroups were assessed using the log-rank test. The prognostic performance of the novel grading system was compared with two previously proposed systems using the concordance index. RESULTS A total of 539 patients were included in this study. Using a multioutcome decision tree model, four pathological factors, including the presence of tumor spread through air space (STAS) and the percentage of lepidic, micropapillary and solid subtype components, were selected for the proposed grading system. Patients were accordingly classified into three groups: low, medium, and high risk. The high-risk group showed a 5-year OS of 52.4% compared to 89.9% and 97.5% in the medium and low-risk groups, respectively. The 5-year PFS of patients in the high-risk group was 38.1% compared to 61.7% and 90.9% in the medium and low-risk groups, respectively. Similar results were observed in the subgroup analysis. Additionally, our proposed grading system provided superior prognostic stratification compared to the other two systems with a higher concordance index. CONCLUSION The newly proposed grading system based on four pathological factors (presence of STAS, and percentage of lepidic, micropapillary, and solid subtypes) exhibits high accuracy and good reproducibility in the prognostic stratification of stage I lung adenocarcinoma patients.

Abstract
The emerging moisture-driven energy generation (MEG) technology opens up new possibilities for humidity-responsive materials, devices, and interdisciplinary opportunities in fields like information security. However, such potential remains untapped. Here, an original MEG structure with a hygroionic energy-conversion route by selective coating of ionic hygroscopic hydrogels on a carbon black surface is reported. The hygroionic route features a process in which the scavenged energy is stored in the electrical double layers formed at the interfaces between the ionic hydrogel and the carbon nanoparticles. The resultant electrical field developed across the hydrogel-coated wet carbon and the rest of the dry carbon area is thus durably lasted. Based on this unique structure, hygroelectronic information interfaces (HEII) for humidity-regulated information encryption and display are put forward by devising hydrogel patterns on a carbon platform. Further by tuning the hygroscopicity of the ionic hydrogels and incorporating encoding methods (e.g., Morse code), it is demonstrated that the HEII platform is programmable to carry different information in certain humidity ranges. Unlike those conventional anti-counterfeiting methods that optically reveal the hidden information once the required stimulus is provided, the new HEII serves as a hierarchical solution for high-security encryption and display.

Abstract
The CuCr mixed oxides catalysts supported on ZSM-5 zeolite (CuCr/ZSM-5) were synthesized via metal organic chemical vapour deposition (MOCVD) method for catalytic oxidation of trichloroethylene (TCE). SEM, XRD, BET, H2-TPR, NH3-TPD and XPS were tested. The active components were dispersed uniformly over the surface of ZSM-5 zeolite. The catalytic experimental results exhibited that the CuCr/ZSM-5 exhibited the best catalytic performance for TCE oxidation with 90% of TCE at 338°C and the concentration of C2Cl4 decreased compared with Cu/ZSM-5 and Cr/ZSM-5. The possible reason is that CuCr/ZSM-5 has superior reducibility, higher Cu2+ surface concentration as well as more surface oxygen.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To retrospectively analyze the accuracy of radiotherapy using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), Styrofoam fixation, and breast bracket fixation in the chest wall target area and supraclavicular lymphatic drainage area (supraclavicular target area) of patients with breast cancer.and compare the setting efficiency and comfort satisfaction. PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 65 patients with postoperative lymphatic metastasis of breast cancer, including 36 cases of Styrofoam fixation and 29 cases of breast bracket fixation, were recruited from March 2021 to August 2022 and retrospectively analyzed. All the patients underwent CBCT scans weekly, and the setup errors of the chest wall and supraclavicular target volume were compared and recorded. The planning target volume (PTV) margins of the two groups were calculated using the correlation MPTV = 2.5Σ + 0.7σ. The setup time and comfort satisfaction scores of the two groups were recorded and analyzed. The correlations among errors in each direction were analyzed using the Pearson correlation analysis. RESULTS There was a significant difference in the left-right direction (X) axis of the chest wall target area between the Styrofoam and breast bracket groups (1.59 ± 1.47 mm vs. 2.05 ± 1.64 mm, P = 0.012). There were statistical differences in the ventrodorsal direction (Z) and bed angle of the supraclavicular target area, the data were (1.36 ± 1.27 mm vs. 1.75 ± 1.55 mm, P = 0.046; 0.47 ± 0.47° vs. 0.66 ± 0.59°, P = 0.006, respectively). In the X, Y, and Z directions, the respective PTV margins of the two groups in the chest wall target area were 5.01 mm, 5.99 mm, and 5.47 mm in the Styrofoam group, while those in the breast bracket group were 6.10 mm, 6.34 mm, and 6.10 mm, respectively. Moreover, the PTV margins of the supraclavicular target in the three directions were 3.69 mm, 3.86 mm, and 4.28 mm in the Styrofoam group, while those in the breast bracket group were 3.99 mm, 3.72 mm, and 5.45 mm, respectively. The setup time of the two groups was 3.4 ± 1.1 min and 5.5 ± 3.1 min (P = 0.007). The subjective comfort satisfaction scores of the two groups were 27.50 ± 1.24 and 25.44 ± 1.23 (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS The application of Styrofoam fixation in radiotherapy of breast cancer in the supraclavicular lymph node area has several advantages as compared to breast bracket fixation, including higher positioning accuracy, smaller external expansion boundary, improved work efficiency, and patients' comfort, which might provide a reference for clinical work.

Abstract
The first catalytic enantioselective [5+1] cycloaddition reactions of C,N-cyclic azomethine imines with isocyanides are reported herein. The method displays a broad substrate scope and atom-economy. A series of chiral tetrahydroisoquinoline containing indole skeletons were obtained in up to 90% yield with 95% ee under mild reaction conditions. A possible catalytic model was also proposed.

Abstract
Cigars have unique aroma and style characteristics. In order to clarify the differences of aroma components between domestic and imported cigars and the material basis of the stylistic characteristics of different cigars, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and sensory evaluation were used to compare and analyze the aroma components in the mainstream smoke of four domestic cigars and two imported cigars. The GC-MS results showed that a total of 97 aroma components were measured in the smoke of the six cigars, and the types of aroma components were similar, but there were differences in their contents. In comparison with those of domestic cigars, imported cigars had suitable nicotine content, and higher contents of phytol, neophytadiene, 3-methylpentanoic acid, and (+)-δ-cadinene. To further explore the differences in the aroma components of the six cigars, GC-MS data combined with chemometrics were used to screen out 14 key aroma components based on P-value (P) < 0.05, Variable Importance Projection (VIP) > 1, and Aroma Activity Values (OAV) > 1. The key aroma components of each cigar were obtained, Snow Dream No. 5: cedrol; Wangguan Guocui: 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one, pyridine, 2-ethyl-6-methylpyrazine; General Achileus No. 3: p-cresol, 2-methylbutyraldehyde, methyl cyclopentenolone; Montecristo No. 4: cedrol, 2-methylbutyraldehyde, guaiacol, 4-vinylguaiacol, methyl cyclopentenolone; Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchills: cedrol, 2,6-dimethylpyrazine, 2-ethyl-6-methylpyrazine, 2-heptanone, phenethyl alcohol; Great Wall No. 2: p-cresol, phenethyl alcohol, geranylacetone, methyl cyclopentenolone, dihydroactinidiolide. The odor descriptors of these compounds were consistent with the aroma profiles that were prominent in the senses of each cigar. This experiment initially explored the differences in aroma composition and style characteristics of cigars and provided data to support the quality improvement of domestic cigars.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rituximab resistance is one of the great challenges in the treatment of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), but relevant biomarkers and signalling pathways remain to be identified. Coptis chinensis and its active ingredients have antitumour effects; thus, the potential bioactive compounds and mechanisms through which Coptis chinensis acts against rituximab-resistant DLBCL are worth exploring. OBJECTIVE To elucidate the core genes involved in rituximab-resistant DLBCL and the potential therapeutic targets of candidate monomers of Coptis chinensis. METHODS Using the Traditional Chinese Medicine System Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform (TCMSP), the Similarity Ensemble Approach and Swiss Target Prediction, the main ingredients and pharmacological targets of Coptis chinensis were identified through database searches. Through the overlap between the pharmacological targets of Coptis chinensis and the core targets of rituximab-resistant DLBCL, we identified the targets of Coptis chinensis against rituximab-resistant DLBCL and constructed an active compound-target interaction network. The targets and their corresponding active ingredients of Coptis chinensis against rituximab-resistant DLBCL were molecularly docked. RESULTS Berberine, quercetin, epiberberine and palmatine, the active components of Coptis chinensis, have great potential for improving rituximab-resistant DLBCL via PIK3CG. CONCLUSION This study revealed biomarkers and Coptis chinensis-associated molecular functions for rituximab-resistant DLBCL.

Abstract
A computational spectrometer is a novel form of spectrometer powerful for portable in situ applications. In the encoding part of the computational spectrometer, filters with highly non-correlated properties are requisite for compressed sensing, which poses severe challenges for optical design and fabrication. In the reconstruction part of the computational spectrometer, conventional iterative reconstruction algorithms are featured with limited efficiency and accuracy, which hinders their application for real-time in situ measurements. This study proposes a neural network computational spectrometer trained by a small dataset with high-correlation optical filters. We aim to change the paradigm by which the accuracy of neural network computational spectrometers depends heavily on the amount of training data and the non-correlation property of optical filters. First, we propose a presumption about a distribution law for the common large training dataset, in which a unique widespread distribution law is shown when calculating the spectrum correlation. Based on that, we extract the original dataset according to the distribution probability and form a small training dataset. Then a fully connected neural network architecture is constructed to perform the reconstruction. After that, a group of thin film filters are introduced to work as the encoding layer. Then the neural network is trained by a small dataset under high-correlation filters and applied in simulation. Finally, the experiment is carried out and the result indicates that the neural network enabled by a small training dataset has performed very well with the thin film filters. This study may provide a reference for computational spectrometers based on high-correlation optical filters.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are the most frequently prescribed agents to treat depression. Considering the growth in antidepressant prescription rates, SSRI-induced adverse events (AEs) need to be comprehensively clarified. OBJECTIVE This study was to investigate safety profiles and potential AEs associated with SSRIs using the Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS). METHODS A retrospective pharmacovigilance analysis was conducted using the FAERS database, with Open Vigil 2.1 used for data extraction. The study included cases from the marketing date of each SSRI (ie, citalopram, escitalopram, fluoxetine, paroxetine, fluvoxamine, and sertraline) to April 30, 2023. We employed the reporting odds ratio and Bayesian confidence propagation neural network as analytical tools to assess the association between SSRIs and AEs. The Medical Dictionary for Regulatory Activities was used to standardize the definition of AEs. AE classification was achieved using system organ classes (SOCs). RESULTS Overall, 427 655 AE reports were identified for the 6 SSRIs, primarily associated with 25 SOCs, including psychiatric, nervous system, congenital, familial, genetic, cardiac, and reproductive disorders. Notably, sertraline (n = 967) and fluvoxamine (n = 169) exhibited the highest and lowest signal frequencies, respectively. All SSRIs had relatively strong signals related to congenital, psychiatric, and nervous disorders. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE Most of our findings are consistent with those reported previously, but some AEs were not previously identified. However, AEs attributed to SSRIs remain ambiguous, warranting further validation. Applying data-mining methods to the FAERS database can provide additional insights that can assist in appropriately utilizing SSRIs.

Abstract
Cadmium (Cd) hampers plant growth and harms photosynthesis. Glutamate (Glu) responds to Cd stress and activates the Ca2+ signaling pathway in duckweed, emphasizing Glu's significant role in Cd stress. In this study, we overexpressed phosphoserine aminotransferase (PSAT), a crucial enzyme in Glu metabolism, in duckweed. We investigated the response of PSAT-transgenic duckweed to Cd stress, including growth, Glu metabolism, photosynthesis, antioxidant enzyme activity, Cd2+ flux, and gene expression. Remarkably, under Cd stress, PSAT-transgenic duckweed prevented root abscission, upregulated the expression of photosynthesis ability, and increased Chl a, Chl b, and Chl a + b levels by 13.9%, 7%, and 12.6%, respectively. Antioxidant enzyme activity (CAT and SOD) also improved under Cd stress, reducing cell membrane damage in PSAT-transgenic duckweeds. Transcriptomic analysis revealed an upregulation of Glu metabolism-related enzymes in PSAT-transgenic duckweed under Cd stress. Moreover, metabolomic analysis showed a 68.4% increase in Glu content in PSAT duckweed exposed to Cd. This study sheds novel insights into the role of PSAT in enhancing plant resistance to Cd stress, establishing a theoretical basis for the impact of Glu metabolism on heavy metal tolerance in plants.

Abstract
RATIONALE Intercostal hemangioma (IH) is an extremely rare disease, with only 18 cases reported in the past 30 years. Herein, we report the first case of IH coexisting with multiple hepatic hemangiomas, which recurred 32 months after surgery with rib erosion. IHs are invasive and difficult to distinguish from other intercostal tumors on imaging. To date, there have been no review articles on the imaging findings of IHs. We hope that this article will help clinicians improve their ability to diagnose and treat IH. PATIENTS CONCERNS A 58-year-old male came to our hospital with gastrointestinal disease. Chest tumors were accidentally discovered on routine chest computed tomography (CT). The patient had no chest symptoms. The patient also had multiple liver tumors that had been present for 2 years but with no remarkable changes. DIAGNOSIS Plain chest CT revealed 2 adjacent masses protruding from the left chest wall into the thoracic cavity. Neurogenic tumors or hamartomas were suspected on enhanced CT scans. Abdominal contrast-enhanced computed tomography scan indicated multiple liver tumors as MMHs, which was consistent with the 2 previous Doppler ultrasound findings. INTERVENTIONS Surgeons removed the chest tumors by video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. No treatment was provided for the MMHs. OUTCOMES Two tumors of the chest wall were diagnosed as the IHs. There were no significant changes in the hepatic tumors after 32 months of follow-up. Unfortunately, the IH recurred, and the left 5th rib was slightly eroded. LESSONS It is necessary to include IHs as a potential differential diagnosis for chest wall tumors because early clinical intervention can prevent tumor growth and damage to adjacent structures. The imaging findings of IH show special characteristics. Preoperative imaging evaluation and diagnosis of IH are helpful for safe and effective surgery. Because of the high recurrence rate, complete surgical resection of IH with a sufficient tumor-free margin is recommended. It should be noted that the ribs should also be removed when the surrounding ribs are suspected to have been violated.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Predictive biomarkers of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) efficacy are currently lacking for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Here, we describe the results from the Anti-PD-1 Response Prediction DREAM Challenge, a crowdsourced initiative that enabled the assessment of predictive models by using data from two randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) of ICIs in first-line metastatic NSCLC. METHODS Participants developed and trained models using public resources. These were evaluated with data from the CheckMate 026 trial (NCT02041533), according to the model-to-data paradigm to maintain patient confidentiality. The generalizability of the models with the best predictive performance was assessed using data from the CheckMate 227 trial (NCT02477826). Both trials were phase III RCTs with a chemotherapy control arm, which supported the differentiation between predictive and prognostic models. Isolated model containers were evaluated using a bespoke strategy that considered the challenges of handling transcriptome data from clinical trials. RESULTS A total of 59 teams participated, with 417 models submitted. Multiple predictive models, as opposed to a prognostic model, were generated for predicting overall survival, progression-free survival, and progressive disease status with ICIs. Variables within the models submitted by participants included tumor mutational burden (TMB), programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression, and gene-expression-based signatures. The best-performing models showed improved predictive power over reference variables, including TMB or PD-L1. CONCLUSIONS This DREAM Challenge is the first successful attempt to use protected phase III clinical data for a crowdsourced effort towards generating predictive models for ICI clinical outcomes and could serve as a blueprint for similar efforts in other tumor types and disease states, setting a benchmark for future studies aiming to identify biomarkers predictive of ICI efficacy. Abstract
Metconazole (MEZ) is a novel chiral triazole fungicide that is widely used to prevent and control soil-borne fungal pathogens and other fungal diseases. However, it has a long half-life in aquatic environments and thus poses potential environmental risks. This study evaluates the acute and stereoselective cardiotoxicity of MEZ in zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos. In addition, transcriptomics, real-time quantitative PCR, enzyme activity determination, and molecular docking are performed to evaluate the molecular mechanisms underlying the cardiotoxicity of MEZ in zebrafish. MEZ decreases the heart rate while increasing the pericardial oedema rate; additionally, it induces stereoselective cardiotoxicity. 1S,5S-MEZ exhibits stronger cardiotoxicity than 1R,5R-MEZ. Furthermore, MEZ increases the expression of Ahr-associated genes and the transcription factors il6st, il1b, and AP-1. Heart development-related genes, including fbn2b, rbm24b, and tbx20 are differentially expressed. MEZ administration alters the activities of catalase, peroxidase, and glutathione-S-transferase in zebrafish larvae. Molecular docking indicates that 1R,5R-MEZ binds more strongly to the inhibitor-binding sites of p38 in the AGE-RAGE signalling pathway than to other MEZ enantiomers. Studies conducted in vivo and in silico have established the enantioselective cardiotoxicity of MEZ and its underlying mechanisms, highlighting the need to evaluate the environmental risk of chiral MEZ in aquatic organisms at the enantiomeric level.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the clinical features of postpartum hepatitis flares in pregnant women with hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted. Patients who met the enrollment criteria were included. Liver function and HBV virology tests were collected from pregnant women with chronic HBV infection at delivery, 6, 24, 36, and 48 weeks after delivery through the hospital information and test system. Additionally, antiviral therapy types and drug withdrawal times were collected. Statistical analysis was performed on all the resulting data. Results: A total of 533 pregnant women who met the inclusion criteria were included, with all patients aged (29.5±3.7) years old. A total of 408 cases received antiviral drugs during pregnancy to interrupt mother-to-child transmission. There was no significant difference in the levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT, z = -1.981, P = 0.048), aspartate aminotransferase (AST, z = -3.956, P < 0.001), HBV load (z = -15.292, P < 0.001), and HBeAg (z = -4.77, P < 0.001) at delivery in patients who received medication and those who did not. All patients ALT, AST, total bilirubin, direct bilirubin, and albumin showed an upward trend within six weeks after delivery. A total of 231 cases developed hepatitis within 48 weeks after delivery. Among them, 173 cases first showed ALT abnormalities within six weeks postpartum. Conclusion: Hepatitis flare incidence peaked six weeks after delivery or six weeks after drug withdrawal in pregnant women with chronic HBV infection.

Abstract
To elucidate the potential risks of the toxic pollutant mercury (Hg) in polar waters, the study of accumulated Hg in fish is compelling for understanding the cycling and fate of Hg on a regional scale in Antarctica. Herein, the Hg isotopic compositions of Antarctic cod Notothenia coriiceps were assessed in skeletal muscle, liver, and heart tissues to distinguish the differences in Hg accumulation in isolated coastal environments of the eastern (Chinese Zhongshan Station, ZSS) and the antipode western Antarctica (Chinese Great Wall Station, GWS), which are separated by over 4000 km. Differences in odd mass-independent isotope fractionation (odd-MIF) and mass-dependent fractionation (MDF) across fish tissues were reflection of the specific accumulation of methylmercury (MeHg) and inorganic Hg (iHg) with different isotopic fingerprints. Internal metabolism including hepatic detoxification and processes related to heart may also contribute to MDF. Regional heterogeneity in iHg end-members further provided evidence that bioaccumulated Hg origins can be largely influenced by polar water circumstances and foraging behavior. Sea ice was hypothesized to play critical roles in both the release of Hg with negative odd-MIF derived from photoreduction of Hg2+ on its surface and the impediment of photochemical transformation of Hg in water layers. Overall, the multitissue isotopic compositions in local fish species and prime drivers of the heterogeneous Hg cycling and bioaccumulation patterns presented here enable a comprehensive understanding of Hg biogeochemical cycling in polar coastal waters.

Abstract
Top soil moisture (SM) is an important medium connecting the exchange of matter and energy between the ground and the atmosphere. Previous studies of the relationship between SM and environmental factors, especially aerodynamics, have lacked analysis of the variability in the timing of effects. In this study, we analyzed how environmental factors affect SM, as well as soil moisture memory, by observing precipitation, radiation, and wind speed during the 2019 to 2021 growing seasons in grazing prohibited and grazed areas of a semiarid grassland. The results show that there is a clear threshold (7 mm) for the effect of precipitation on SM, that changes in SM across time scales were influenced by preceding precipitation and net radiation in addition to lagging vegetation greening characteristics (NDVI) and wind speed, and that the role of albedo was related to grazing management. The inhibitory effect of albedo on SM and the depletion of SM by NDVI were more pronounced in comparison to other meteorological factors. Wind speed, precipitation, and radiation directly or indirectly influenced SM duration, and these relationships varied with grazing management and annual variation. These results help to clarify the influence of environmental factors on SM, and provide insight for minimizing the degradation of grassland ecosystems in the process of climate change.

Abstract
Background This study aimed to understand the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of drug use among residents in western China and its influencing factors for accurately designing the knowledge, contents, and methods of popular science activities for safe drug use among residents to provide a reference for conducting rational drug use educational activities and improving residents' level of safe drug use. Methods A cross-sectional questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate the KAP of medication among western China residents and its influencing factors from March to April 2023. Each question option was assigned a score according to logic, and the risk factors for resident medication safety KAP were explored through univariate and logistic regression analyses. Results A total of 7,557 valid questionnaires were collected, with an effective recovery rate of 96.7%. The average scores of KAP were 72.77 ± 22.91, 32.89 ± 10.64, and 71.27 ± 19.09, respectively. In the evaluation criteria of the questionnaire, the score of medication knowledge reached "good," and the score of attitude and practice was "average." Multiple linear regression analysis indicated that male sex and low education level were significant factors affecting the lack of drug knowledge among residents. Old age and low education level were the factors of poor attitude toward medication. The low condition of medical security was a factor in residents' irregular drug use behavior. Conclusion The overall level of rational drug use among residents in western China is good, but there are still some inconsistencies. Rational drug use education should be conducted according to the risk points of residents in drug safety KAP to further improve the level of rational drug use of residents.

Abstract
PURPOSE First-generation bone bridges (BBs) have demonstrated favorable safety and audiological benefits in patients with conductive hearing loss. However, studies on the effects of second-generation BBs are limited, especially among children. In this study, we aimed to explore the surgical and audiological effects of second-generation BBs in patients with bilateral congenital microtia. METHODS This single-center prospective study included nine Mandarin-speaking patients with bilateral microtia. All the patients underwent BCI Generation 602 (BCI602; MED-EL, Innsbruck, Austria) implant surgery between September 2021 and June 2023. Audiological and sound localization tests were performed under unaided and BB-aided conditions. RESULTS The transmastoid and retrosigmoid sinus approaches were implemented in three and six patients, respectively. No patient underwent preoperative planning, lifts were unnecessary, and no sigmoid sinus or dural compression occurred. The mean function gain at 0.5-4.0 kHz was 28.06 ± 4.55-dB HL. The word recognition scores improved significantly in quiet under the BB aided condition. Signal-to-noise ratio reduction by 10.56 ± 2.30 dB improved the speech reception threshold in noise. Patients fitted with a unilateral BB demonstrated inferior sound source localization after the initial activation. CONCLUSIONS Second-generation BBs are safe and effective for patients with bilateral congenital microtia and may be suitable for children with mastoid hypoplasia without preoperative three-dimensional reconstruction.

Abstract
Although previous studies have shown significant associations between individual lifestyles and metabolic syndrome, limited studies have explored the combined effect of lifestyles. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether a combined lifestyle score was associated with metabolic syndrome incidence in Hong Kong Chinese women. This prospective cohort study included 1634 women (55.9 ± 8.6 years) without baseline metabolic syndrome, diabetes, myocardial infarction, or stroke. Eight lifestyle factors (smoking, physical activity, sedentary time, sleep, stress, fatigue, diet, and alcohol) were included by assigning 0 (unhealthy) or 1 point (healthy). The overall score was the sum of these points, ranging from 0 (the least healthy) to 8 points (the healthiest). Metabolic syndrome was diagnosed by the joint interim statement. During a 1.16-year follow-up, 179 (11.0%) new metabolic syndrome cases were identified. The incidences for the 0-3-point, 4-point, 5-point, and 6-8-point groups were 12.8% (79/618), 11.5% (42/366), 9.4% (29/309), and 8.5% (29/341), respectively. Compared to the lowest combined lifestyle score group, the highest group had a 47% reduced metabolic syndrome incidence, with an adjusted odds ratio and 95% confidence interval of 0.53 (0.33-0.86) (p = 0.010). These findings indicate that a higher combined lifestyle score was associated with a lower metabolic syndrome incidence in this population.

Abstract
The avian optic tectum (OT) has been studied for its diverse functions, yet a comprehensive molecular landscape at the cellular level has been lacking. In this study, we applied spatial transcriptome sequencing and single-nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq) to explore the cellular organization and molecular characteristics of the avian OT from two species: Columba livia and Taeniopygia guttata. We identified precise layer structures and provided comprehensive layer-specific signatures of avian OT. Furthermore, we elucidated diverse functions in different layers, with the stratum griseum periventriculare (SGP) potentially playing a key role in advanced functions of OT, like fear response and associative learning. We characterized detailed neuronal subtypes and identified a population of FOXG1+ excitatory neurons, resembling those found in the mouse neocortex, potentially involved in neocortex-related functions and expansion of avian OT. These findings could contribute to our understanding of the architecture of OT, shedding light on visual perception and multifunctional association.

Abstract
Objective.Wearable electrical impedance tomography (EIT) can be used to monitor regional lung ventilation and perfusion at the bedside. Due to its special system architecture, the amplitude of the injected current is usually limited compared to stationary EIT system. This study aims to evaluate the performance of current injection patterns with various low-amplitude currents in healthy volunteers.Approach.A total of 96 test sets of EIT measurement was recorded in 12 healthy subjects by employing adjacent and opposite current injection patterns with four amplitudes of small current (i.e. 1 mA, 500 uA, 250 uA and 125 uA). The performance of the two injection patterns with various currents was evaluated in terms of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of thorax impedance, EIT image metrics and EIT-based clinical parameters.Main results.Compared with adjacent injection, opposite injection had higher SNR (p< 0.01), less inverse artifacts (p< 0.01), and less boundary artifacts (p< 0.01) with the same current amplitude. In addition, opposite injection exhibited more stable EIT-based clinical parameters (p< 0.01) across the current range. For adjacent injection, significant differences were found for three EIT image metrics (p< 0.05) and four EIT-based clinical parameters (p< 0.01) between the group of 125 uA and the other groups.Significance.For better performance of wearable pulmonary EIT, currents greater than 250 uA should be used in opposite injection, 500 uA in adjacent one, to ensure a high level of SNR, a high quality of reconstructed image as well as a high reliability of clinical parameters.

Abstract
Pneumothorax is an emergency in thoracic surgeries and respiratory medicine. A technique is warranted for real-time monitoring of pneumothorax at the bedside so that rapid diagnosis and timely intervention can be achieved. We report herein a case in which electrical impedance tomography (EIT) was employed at the bedside to monitor lung ventilation of a patient with spontaneous pneumothorax during treatment. It was found that the affected side/healthy side ventilation ratio and global inhomogeneity were strongly correlated with the severity of pneumothorax. The use of EIT allowed intuitive observation of the effect of pneumothorax on ventilation, which helped the doctors make immediate diagnosis and intervention. After timely and successful treatment, the patient was discharged. This is the first case reporting a complete therapeutic course of spontaneous pneumothorax assessed with EIT. Our case demonstrated that EIT could monitor regional ventilation loss of the affected side of pneumothorax patients at the bedside, and dynamically assess the treatment effect of pneumothorax, which provides an important imaging basis for clinical pneumothorax treatment.

Abstract
The patient was a male infant, born full-term, admitted to the hospital at 28 days of age due to jaundice for 20 days and abdominal distension for 15 days. The patient developed symptoms of jaundice, hepatosplenomegaly, massive ascites, and progressively worsening liver function leading to liver failure, severe coagulation disorders, and thrombocytopenia one week after birth. Various treatments were administered, including anti-infection therapy, fluid restriction, use of diuretics, use of hepatoprotective and choleretic agents, intermittent paracentesis, blood exchange, and intravenous immunoglobulin, albumin, and plasma transfusions. However, the patient's condition did not improve, and on the 24th day of hospitalization, the family decided to discontinue treatment and provide palliative care. Sequencing of the patient's liver tissue and parental blood samples using whole-exome sequencing did not identify any pathogenic variants that could explain the liver failure. However, postmortem liver tissue pathology suggested congenital hepatic fibrosis (CHF). Given the rarity of CHF causing neonatal liver failure, further studies on the prognosis and pathogenic genes of CHF cases are needed in the future. This article provides a comprehensive description of the differential diagnosis of neonatal liver failure and introduces a multidisciplinary diagnostic and therapeutic approach to neonatal liver failure.

Abstract
Osteosarcoma (OS) is considered the most frequent type of primary malignant bone tumor. Currently, radiotherapy, photodynamic (PDT), and other therapies for osteosarcoma are limited by tumor hypoxia and single efficacy and serve side-effects. Herein, we reported a microalgal drug delivery system (SpiD), doxorubicin (DOX)-loaded Spirulina platensis (Spi) for OS therapy. The specific surface of Spirulina platensis allowed for effective loading of DOX via surface channels and electrostatic interactions. Under 650 nm laser irradiation, SpiD enabled high oxygen production by photosynthesis and enhanced reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation via chlorophyll-assisted photosensitization, synergistically killing tumor cells with the released DOX. Combined chemotherapy and enhanced PDT mediated by SpiD exerted synergic antitumor effects and resulted in potent therapeutic efficacy in orthotopic osteosarcoma mice. Furthermore, SpiD could reduce the side-effects of chemotherapy, showing excellent blood and tissue safety. Taken together, this microalgal drug delivery system provided a natural, efficient, safe, and inexpensive strategy for OS treatment.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The efficacy of sirolimus in treating severe or refractory systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) has been confirmed by small-scale clinical trials. However, few studies focused on mild or moderate SLE. Therefore, in this study we elucidated clinical efficacy of add-on sirolimus in patients with mild or moderate SLE. METHODS Data of 17 consecutive patients with SLE were retrospectively collected. SLE Disease Activity Index-2000 (SLEDAI-2K), clinical manifestation, laboratory data and peripheral T lymphocyte subsets with cytokines were collected before and 6 months after sirolimus add-on treatment. T cell subsets were detected by flow cytometry and cytokines were determined by multiplex bead-based flow fluorescent immunoassay simultaneously. Twenty healthy controls matched with age and sex were also included in our study. RESULTS (1) The numbers of peripheral blood lymphocytes, T cells, T helper (Th) cells, regulatory T (Treg) cells, Th1 cells, Th2 cells and Treg/Th17 ratios in patients with SLE were significantly lower, while the numbers of Th17 cells were evidently higher than those of healthy control (p<0.05). (2) After 6 months of sirolimus add-on treatment, urinary protein, pancytopenia, immunological indicators and SLEDAI-2K in patients with SLE were distinctively improved compared with those before sirolimus treatment (p<0.05). (3) The numbers of peripheral blood lymphocytes, T cells, Th cells, Treg cells, Th2 cells and the ratios of Treg/Th17 in patients with SLE after treatment were clearly higher than those before (p<0.05). (4) The levels of plasma interleukin (IL)-5, IL-6 and IL-10 in patients with SLE decreased notably, conversely the IL-4 levels increased remarkably compared with pretreatment (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS (1) Patients with SLE presented imbalanced T cell subsets, especially the decreased ratio of Treg/Th17. (2) Sirolimus add-on treatment ameliorated clinical involvement, serological abnormalities and disease activity without adverse reactions in patients with SLE. (3) The multi-target therapy facilitates the enhanced numbers of Treg cells, Treg/Th17 imbalance and anti-inflammatory cytokines, simultaneously, reducing inflammatory cytokines.

Abstract
Nowadays, wearable devices derived from flexible conductive hydrogels have attracted enormous attention. Nevertheless, the utilization of conductive hydrogels in practical applications under extreme conditions remains a significant challenge. Herein, a series of inorganic salt-ion-enhanced conductive hydrogels (HPE-LiCl) consisting of hydroxyethyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl acrylate, lithium chloride, and ethylene glycol/water binary solvent were fabricated via a facile one-pot method. Apart from outstanding self-adhesion, high stretchability, and remarkable fatigue resistance, the HPE-LiCl hydrogels possessed especially excellent antifreezing and long-lasting moisture performances, which could maintain satisfactory flexibility and electric conductivity over extended periods of time, even in challenging conditions such as extremely low temperatures (as low as -40 °C) and high temperatures (as high as 80 °C). Consequently, the HPE-LiCl-based sensor could timely and accurately monitor various human motion signals even in adverse environments and after long-term storage. Hence, this work presents a facile strategy for the design of long-term reliable hydrogels as smart strain sensors, especially used in extreme environments.

Abstract
PURPOSE Black individuals have a higher cancer burden and face greater obstacles to access cancer care resources when compared to White individuals. Radical prostatectomy is the standard surgical treatment and a common treatment option for prostate cancer; however, when compared to their White counterparts, Black individuals treated for prostate cancer often experience higher treatment-related side effects, resulting in a difficult recovery period. Physical activity is effective in alleviating treatment-related side effects; however, little is known about the barriers and facilitators to physical activity experienced by Black individuals after surgical management of prostate cancer to inform the design of physical activity interventions. METHODS Twelve Black individuals underwent radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer participated in a focus group study. We used the Behaviour Change Wheel, which incorporates Capability, Opportunity, Behaviour (COM-B) model and the complementary Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF), as our guiding theoretical framework. Data was analyzed using deductive qualitative analysis. RESULTS Facilitators and barriers were identified for all components of the Behaviour Change Wheel. Capability appeared to be a central factor to how participants described their physical activity engagement. Opportunity and motivation were described as both barriers and facilitators for behaviour change when occurring in isolation; however, when co-occurring with the presence of capability, they were described as facilitators that influence participants' physical activity engagement. CONCLUSIONS Our results demonstrate barriers and facilitators that are recognized among Black individuals who have undergone radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer. The design of a physical activity intervention needs to consider the physical and psychological capabilities as the fundamental basis with the additional support of physical activity opportunity and motivation. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS Intersectionality across capability, opportunity, and motivation is essential to intervention design and development to increase physical activity in Black individuals surgically treated for prostate cancer.

Abstract
Metastasis accounts for 90% of cancer-related deaths among the patients. The transformation of epithelial cells into mesenchymal cells with molecular alterations can occur during epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). The EMT mechanism accelerates the cancer metastasis and drug resistance ability in human cancers. Among the different regulators of EMT, Wnt/β-catenin axis has been emerged as a versatile modulator. Wnt is in active form in physiological condition due to the function of GSK-3β that destructs β-catenin, while ligand-receptor interaction impairs GSK-3β function to increase β-catenin stability and promote its nuclear transfer. Regarding the oncogenic function of Wnt/β-catenin, its upregulation occurs in human cancers and it can accelerate EMT-mediated metastasis and drug resistance. The stimulation of Wnt by binding Wnt ligands into Frizzled receptors can enhance β-catenin accumulation in cytoplasm that stimulates EMT and related genes upon nuclear translocation. Wnt/β-catenin/EMT axis has been implicated in augmenting metastasis of both solid and hematological tumors. The Wnt/EMT-mediated cancer metastasis promotes the malignant behavior of tumor cells, causing therapy resistance. The Wnt/β-catenin/EMT axis can be modulated by upstream mediators in which non-coding RNAs are main regulators. Moreover, pharmacological intervention, mainly using phytochemicals, suppresses Wnt/EMT axis in metastasis suppression.

Abstract
Objective Third-generation cephalosporin-resistant (3GC-R) bloodstream infection (BSI) is associated with poor prognosis. We investigated the incidence of and risk factors for 3GC-R Escherichia coli (E. coli) BSI in children. Methods Patients with E. coli BSIs who were hospitalized at the Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University were retrospectively enrolled. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to identify the independent risk factors for 3GC-R BSI. Results Two hundred fifty-two children with E. coli BSIs were enrolled. The mortality rate was 11.51% (29/252). The infection rate of 3GC-R E. coli was 48.81% (123/252), and the incidence of E. coli BSI during hospitalization was 18.58 per 1000 person-days. Approximately half (47.22%, 119/252) of the children were infected with extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) produced by E. coli. More than one-third (37.30%, 94/252) of the children were unnecessarily administrated carbapenems. According to our logistic regression analysis, a history of carbapenem administration, an elevated Pediatric Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (pSOFA) score ≥2, and antimicrobial agent administration before blood culture were independently associated with 3GC-R BSI (odds ratio [OR] 2.05, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.08-3.94, P=0.029; OR 2.00, 95% CI 1.10-3.71, P=0.025, OR 1.86, 95% CI 1.02-3.42, P=0.044, respectively). Conclusion In this study, the incidence of 3GC-R E. coli BSI among children was retrospectively evaluated. Patients with a history of carbapenem administration, an elevated pSOFA score ≥2 and who were administrated antimicrobial agents before blood culture had an increased risk of 3GC-R E. coli BSI.

Abstract
We present a straightforward one-step process to access a range of novel p-diindolepyrazines via an unprecedented [n-Bu4N][Fe(CO)3(NO)] (TBA[Fe])-catalyzed intermolecular nitrogenative dimerization of various indole derivatives. Remarkably, tosylazide functions as a N1-synthon forming the central pyrazine unit that joins the two indole subunits. The catalytic transformation shows a good substrate scope, and the obtained products show interesting electronic properties.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Spirodela polyrrhiza is a simple floating aquatic plant with great potential in synthetic biology. Sodium nitroprusside (SNP) stimulates plant development and increases the biomass and flavonoid content in some plants. However, the molecular mechanism of SNP action is still unclear. RESULTS To determine the effect of SNP on growth and metabolic flux in S. polyrrhiza, the plants were treated with different concentrations of SNP. Our results showed an inhibition of growth, an increase in starch, soluble protein, and flavonoid contents, and enhanced antioxidant enzyme activity in plants after 0.025 mM SNP treatment. Differentially expressed transcripts were analysed in S. polyrrhiza after 0.025 mM SNP treatment. A total of 2776 differentially expressed genes (1425 upregulated and 1351 downregulated) were identified. The expression of some genes related to flavonoid biosynthesis and NO biosynthesis was upregulated, while the expression of some photosynthesis-related genes was downregulated. Moreover, SNP stress also significantly influenced the expression of transcription factors (TFs), such as ERF, BHLH, NAC, and WRKY TFs. CONCLUSIONS Taken together, these findings provide novel insights into the mechanisms of underlying the SNP stress response in S. polyrrhiza and show that the metabolic flux of fixed CO2 is redirected into the starch synthesis and flavonoid biosynthesis pathways after SNP treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Maternal and neonatal disorders account for substantial health loss across the lifespan from early childhood. These problems may be related to health inequality. AIM To provide evidence for improvement in health policies regarding maternal and neonatal disorder inequity. DESIGN This was a population-based cross-sectional study based on 2019 Global Burden of Disease data. METHODS Annual cases and age-standardized rates (ASRs) of incidence, prevalence, death, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) in maternal and neonatal disorders between 1990 and 2019 were collected from the 2019 Global Burden of Disease study. Concentration curves and concentration indices were used to summarize the degree of socioeconomic-related inequality. RESULTS For maternal disorders, the global ASRs of incidence, prevalence, death and DALYs were 2889.4 (95% uncertainty interval (UI), 2562.9-3251.9), 502.9 (95% UI 418.7-598.0), 5.0 (95% UI 4.4-5.8) and 324.9 (95% UI 284.0-369.1) per 100 000 women in 2019, respectively. The ASRs of maternal disorders were all obviously reduced and remained pro-poor from 1990 to 2019. In neonatal disorders, the global ASRs of incidence, prevalence, death and DALYs were 363.3 (95% UI 334.6-396.8), 1239.8 (95% UI 1142.1-1356.7), 29.1 (95% UI 24.8-34.5) and 2828.3 (95% UI 2441.6-3329.6) per 100 000 people in 2019, respectively. The global ASRs of incidence, death and DALYs in neonatal disorders have remained pro-poor. However, the socioeconomic-related fairness in the ASR of neonatal disorder prevalence is being levelled. CONCLUSIONS The global burden of maternal and neonatal disorders has remained high, and socioeconomic-related inequality (pro-poor) tended not to change between 1990 and 2019.

Abstract
Precision nanoengineering of porous two-dimensional structures has emerged as a promising avenue for finely tuning catalytic reactions. However, understanding the pore-structure-dependent catalytic performance remains challenging, given the lack of comprehensive guidelines, appropriate material models, and precise synthesis strategies. Here, we propose the optimization of two-dimensional carbon materials through the utilization of mesopores with 5-10 nm diameter to facilitate fluid acceleration, guided by finite element simulations. As proof of concept, the optimized mesoporous carbon nanosheet sample exhibited exceptional electrocatalytic performance, demonstrating high selectivity (>95%) and a notable diffusion-limiting disk current density of -3.1 mA cm-2 for H2O2 production. Impressively, the electrolysis process in the flow cell achieved a production rate of 14.39 mol gcatalyst-1 h-1 to yield a medical-grade disinfectant-worthy H2O2 solution. Our pore engineering research focuses on modulating oxygen reduction reaction activity and selectivity by affecting local fluid transport behavior, providing insights into the mesoscale catalytic mechanism.

Abstract
Novel half-sandwich ruthenium complexes termed [(p-cymene)RuClL] were synthesized by chelating arylhydrazone ligands with [(p-cymene)RuCl2]2 and were then fully characterized using different spectroscopic and analytical techniques. The crystal structure of complex 4 indicated that the hydrazone ligands bonded to the ruthenium ion in a bidentate manner through the imine nitrogen and imidazolate oxygen, exhibiting a pseudo-octahedral geometry centered by the ruthenium atom. The as-fabricated air and moisture stable half-sandwich ruthenium complexes demonstrated excellent catalytic activity towards the N-alkylation of hydrazides under mild conditions. Under the catalysis of ruthenium complexes, acyl hydrazides were reacted with different types of alcohols in a one-pot reaction, resulting in N-alkylation hydrazides with different substituents. This catalyst exhibited characteristics such as high catalytic efficiency, broad substrate scope, and mild reaction conditions, indicating that it has great potential for industrial applications.

Abstract
PURPOSE Major pathological response (MPR) has become a surrogate endpoint for overall survival (OS) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) after neoadjuvant therapy, however, the prognostic histologic features and optimal N descriptor after neoadjuvant therapy are poorly defined. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed data from 368 NSCLC patients who underwent surgery after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) from January 2010 to December 2020. The percentage of residual viable tumors in the primary tumor, lymph nodes (LN), and inflammation components within the tumor stroma were comprehensively reviewed. The primary endpoint was OS. RESULTS Of the 368 enrolled patients, 12.0% (44/368) achieved MPR in the primary tumor, which was associated with significantly better OS (HR, 0.36 0.17-0.77, p = 0.008) and DFS (HR = 0.59, 0.36-0.92, p = 0.038). In patients who did not have an MPR, we identified an immune-activated phenotype in primary tumors, characterized by intense tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte or multinucleated giant cell infiltration, that was associated with similar OS and DFS as patients who had MPR. Neoadjuvant pathologic grade (NPG), consisting of MPR and immune-activated phenotype, identified 30.7% (113/368) patients that derived significant OS (HR 0.28, 0.17-0.46, p < 0.001) and DFS (HR 0.44, 0.31-0.61, p < 0.001) benefit from NAC. Moreover, the combination of NPG and the number of positive LN stations (nS) in the multivariate analysis had a higher C-index (0.711 vs. 0.663, p < 0.001) than the ypTNM Stage when examining OS. CONCLUSION NPG integrated with nS can provide a simple, practical, and robust approach that may allow for better stratification of patients when evaluating neoadjuvant chemotherapy in clinical practice.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) and surgery have been recommended as the standard treatments for locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). In addition, nodal metastases decreased in frequency and changed in distribution after neoadjuvant therapy. This study aimed to examine the optimal strategy for lymph node dissection (LND) in patients with ESCC who underwent nCRT. METHODS The hazard ratios (HRs) for overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were calculated using the Cox proportional hazard model. To determine the minimal number of LNDs (n-LNS) or least station of LNDs (e-LNS), the Chow test was used. RESULTS In total, 333 patients were included. The estimated cut-off values for e-LNS and n-LNS were 9 and 15, respectively. A higher number of e-LNS was significantly associated with improved OS (HR: 0.90; 95% CI 0.84-0.97, P = 0.0075) and DFS (HR: 0.012; 95% CI: 0.84-0.98, P = 0.0074). The e-LNS was a significant prognostic factor in multivariate analyses. The local recurrence rate of 23.1% in high e-LNS is much lower than the results of low e-LNS (13.3%). Comparable morbidity was found in both the e-LNS and n-LND subgroups. CONCLUSION This cohort study revealed an association between the extent of LND and overall survival, suggesting the therapeutic value of extended lymphadenectomy during esophagectomy. Therefore, more lymph node stations being sampled leads to higher survival rates among patients who receive nCRT, and standard lymphadenectomy of at least 9 stations is strongly recommended.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effectiveness of comprehensive echinococcosis control measures with emphasis on management of infectious source in Sichuan Province from 2010 to 2022, so as to provide insights into formulation of future control interventions. METHODS Data pertaining to comprehensive echinococcosis control measures with emphasis on management of infectious source and echinococcosis surveillance in Sichuan Province from 2010 to 2022 were collected. The effectiveness of comprehensive echinococcosis control measures with emphasis on management of infectious source was evaluated with prevalence of human echinococcosis, detection of newly diagnosed echinococcosis patients, prevalence of Echinococcus infection in domestic dogs, prevalence of cystic echinococcosis in livestock, prevalence of alveolar echinococcosis in small mammals and awareness of echinococcosis control knowledge, and Spearman's rank correlation analysis. RESULTS The prevalence of human echinococcosis reduced from 1.08% in 2010 to 0.40% in 2022 in Sichuan Province (χ2 = 1 482.97, P < 0.05), with a reduction from 0.30% to 0.02% in the detection of newly diagnosed echinococcosis cases (χ2 = 2 776.41, P < 0.05), a reduction from 15.87% to 0.46% in the prevalence of Echinococcus infection in domestic dogs (χ2 = 20 823.96, P < 0.05), a reduction from 8.05% to 1.07% in the prevalence of cystic echinococcosis in livestock (χ2 = 1 296.02, P < 0.05), and the awareness of echinococcosis control knowledge increased from 50.65% to 95.24% (χ2 = 34 938.63, P < 0.05); in addition, there was a year-specific prevalence rate of alveolar echinococcosis in small mammals (χ2 = 164.07, P < 0.05). Spearman's rank correlation analysis revealed that the detection of newly diagnosed echinococcosis cases correlated positively with the prevalence of Echinococcus infections in domestic dogs (rs = 0.823, P < 0.05) and the prevalence of cystic echinococcosis in livestock (rs = 0.795, P < 0.05), and correlated negatively with the awareness of echinococcosis control knowledge (rs = - 0.918, P < 0.05), and the prevalence of Echinococcus infection in domestic dogs correlated positively with the prevalence of cystic echinococcosis in livestock (rs = 0.753, P < 0.05) and negatively with the awareness of echinococcosis control knowledge (rs = -0.747, P < 0.05); however, there was no correlation between the prevalence of Echinococcus infections in domestic dogs and the prevalence of alveolar echinococcosis in small mammals (rs = -0.750, P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The comprehensive echinococcosis control measures with emphasis on management of infectious source had achieved remarkable effectiveness in Sichuan Province; however, the transmission chain of echinococcosis has not been interrupted. Reinforced comprehensive echinococcosis control measures with emphasis on management of infectious source and sustained tracking evaluation of the effectiveness are recommended in Sichuan Province.

Abstract
Households have emerged as one of the primary sources for carbon emissions in China, thus posing challenges to the "dual carbon" objectives. Digital finance, an emergent form of industry that fused advanced technology with financial services, had a pronounced impact on household carbon emissions stemming from daily consumption. However, the mechanisms driving this impact have not been adequately examined. Based on micro-level household survey data across 25 Chinese provinces from 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018, the study identified the chief channels via which digital finance affected household carbon emissions, deriving several key findings. First, digital finance augmented household carbon emissions, presenting a significant negative impact on the climate. Second, due to the existence of "digital divide" between rural and urban areas, the impact of digital finance was more subdued in rural areas. Additionally, the effects of digital finance were more pronounced in the affluent eastern provinces. Third, income mobility obscured the positive relationship between digital finance and household carbon emissions. This is primarily attributed to the urban-rural divide in China; taking into account that urban-to-rural transfers make income distribution more equitable, there is a counterintuitive drop in per capita consumption, thereby suppressing consumption-related carbon emissions. This presented the conundrum of "income distribution equality-consumption negativity". Finally, financial literacy was identified as a crucial positive moderating role, enabling households with high financial literacy to harness the dividends of digital finance, thereby engaging in more diversified consumption activities and intensifying the negative impact of digital finance on carbon emissions. The findings reinforced the pivotal role of digital finance in bolstering efforts to combat climate change and ensuring environmentally-responsible economic advancements.
