Abstract
AIM This study aimed to identify the prevalence and distribution of high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) types among Kazakhstani women with abnormal cervical cytology. METHODS A cross-sectional study was performed from May 2019 to June 2020. Cervical samples were collected from women in the different regions of Kazakhstan. RESULTS A total of 316 patients' samples were analysed for HR-HPV using real-time multiplex PCR. Cervical cytology abnormalities were reported according to the Bethesda classification. HPV detection by cytology showed a statistically significant association with HPV status and the number of HPV infection types (p < .05). Among women with abnormal cervical cytology, 62.4% were positive for HPV infection of those 79.4% had low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSIL), and 20.6% had high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL). Among patients with LSIL, 77.4% had HPV16 and 58.8% were infected with HPV18. Among patients with HSIL, 41.2% had HPV18 and 22.6% - HPV16. CONCLUSIONS There is a high prevalence of HR-HPV types among Kazakhstani women with abnormal cervical cytology. The most identified types were HPV16, 18, 31, 33 and 52. There is an emergency need to implement an HPV vaccination program to prevent cervical lesion development.

Abstract
AIM There is limited knowledge about the perceptions of HPV vaccination in middle-school children. This qualitative study aimed to explore their views. METHODS We conducted focus group interviews with children, 10-11 years of age, who had been offered HPV vaccination through the school health services in mid-north Sweden in spring of 2023. Data were analysed with qualitative content analysis. RESULTS This study included six focus group interviews with 49 children (boys n = 29; girls n = 20), mean of 11 years of age. Participating children expressed the need to feel safe to be of utmost importance and the means to do so was to be prepared and informed by someone the child trusted. The school nurse was perceived as the expert, best suited to provide factual information, support and motivation, both to children and their parents. CONCLUSION We confirm that healthcare providers' recommendations are crucial for HPV vaccine acceptance also from the child's perspective. Improved information about HPV vaccination to children is necessary. Children's right to participate on their own terms is not fulfilled today. Vaccine promotion, both to children and parents, should be actively managed by the school nurse.

Abstract
The oncogenic protein E7 of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is constitutionally expressed in HPV-associated tumors and has the potential to be targeted in T cell receptor (TCR)-based immunotherapy. Adoptive transfer of TCR-engineered T (TCR-T) cells has shown promise as a therapeutic approach for HPV-induced tumors. This study aimed to identify HPV-E7 specific TCRs from HLA-A11:01 transgenic mice through single-cell sorting and sequencing facilitated by E789-97/HLA-A11:01 tetramer. Two dominant TCRs were identified, which exhibited specific binding to E789-97 presented in the context of HLA-A*11:01. TCR-T cells were prepared by infecting primary T cells with lentiviruses containing the TCR genes, and the two TCRs demonstrated substantial responsiveness and showed CD8+ dependent cytokine secretion characteristics. Further analyses of the cytokine profiles revealed that the two TCRs were capable of exerting polyfunctional responses upon specific stimulation. These findings suggest that the two TCRs represent promising candidates for the development of future therapeutic drugs targeting HPV-E7 in the context of HLA-A*11:01 for tumor immunotherapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND High-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) detection in self-collected urine samples (SeCUS) may be a promising alternative for cervical cancer screening because of its greater acceptability, as long as it can offer comparable sensitivity to clinician-collected cervical samples (CCoS) for detecting precancer lesions. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the performance of the SeCUS compared to that of the CCoS for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 3 (CIN3) detection among hrHPV-positive women receiving colposcopy in Mexico City using different specific extended HPV typing procedures: HPV16/18, HPV16/18/35/39/68 or HPV16/18/35/39/68/31. METHODS From March 2017 to August 2018, 4,158 female users of the cervical cancer screening program at Tlalpan Sanitary Jurisdiction in Mexico City were invited to participate in the FRIDA-Tlalpan study. All participants provided ≥ 30 mL of SeCUS, and then a CCoS was obtained with Cervex-Brush®, which was used for hrHPV typing. Participants who tested positive for hrHPV in CCoS were referred for colposcopy for diagnostic confirmation, and all SeCUS of these women were also tested for hrHPV typing. RESULTS In total, 561 hrHPV-positive women were identified by CCoS via colposcopy, and 82.2% of the SeCUS of these women were also hrHPV positive. From both CCoS and SeCUS, 7 cases of CIN3 were detected. Considering HPV16/18 typing, CCoS and SeCUS detected 4 cases of CIN3, but after HPV16/18/35/39/68/31 extension typing, both CCoS and SeCUS detected all 7 of the CIN3 cases among the hrHPV-positive women. CONCLUSIONS Using extended hrHPV typing based on HPV16/18/35/39/68/31, our results suggest that the performance of SeCUS may be equivalent to that of CCoS for detecting CIN3 lesions. Although our results are inconclusive, they support the hypothesis that SeCUS may be an attractive alternative worthy of further research.

Abstract
Objectives To examine the association between the human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and overall survival rate in patients with oral cancer. Methods This retrospective cohort study examined HPV status in 454 patients who were diagnosed with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) using the records of patients who underwent an initial treatment for OSCC between 2012 and 2021 at our institution as retrieved from the Cancer Registry database. The survival rates of the HPV-positive and HPV-negative groups were assessed and compared, and independent factors associated with survival were analyzed using multivariate Cox regression models. Results Of the 454 patients with OSCC included in this study, 73 were excluded for invalid HPV tests. Of the remaining patients, 39 and 342 patients were categorized into HPV-positive and HPV-negative groups, respectively. The prevalence of HPV-positive in the patients with OSCC was 10.2% (95% confidence interval 7.2%-13.2%). The 3-year overall survival rates were 56.2% and 53.9% in the HPV-positive and HPV-negative groups, respectively. The 3-year disease-specific survival rates in the HPV-positive and HPV-negative groups were 60.2% and 56.9%, respectively. The survival differences were not statistically significant. HPV-positive status was not a significant predictor of overall survival in the multivariable Cox regression analyses (p = 0.728). Conclusion The prevalence of HPV-positivity among patients with OSCC in the study was 10.2%. No association was found between HPV-positive status and 3-year overall survival in patients with oral cancer. Level of evidence Level 3.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cervical cancer (CC) is a significant global public health concern, particularly in developing countries such as Colombia. The main risk factor involves high-risk HPV types (HR-HPV) infection, coupled with population-specific variables. The Caribbean region in Colombia lacks research on HR-HPV-type frequencies. Therefore, this study aims to establish the prevalence of type-specific HR-HPV and its association with sociodemographic factors among women undergoing cervical cytology screening. METHODS A cross-sectional study involving voluntary women who provided informed consent and completed a questionnaire capturing sociodemographic, clinical, and sexual behavior information was conducted. All participants underwent cervical cytology and molecular analysis. Generic HPV detection employed three simultaneous PCRs (GP5+/6+, MY09/11, and PU1R/2 M), and positive samples were genotyped using the Optiplex HPV Genotyping kit. The analysis encompassed the 12 types of high-risk HPV (HR-HPV-16,-18,-31,-33,-35,-39,-45,-51,-52,-56,-58, and - 59). Frequencies were reported based on geographic subregions within the Córdoba department, and disparities were made between single and multiple infections. Sociodemographic and clinical variables were subjected to ordinal logistic regression, with statistical significance at a p-value < 0.05. The statistical analyses utilized STATA 14® and R-Core Team-software. RESULTS We included 450 women, mean age 40 (SD±11.44). PCR analysis revealed 43% HPV-positive (n=192). GP5+/6+ detected the most positives at 26% (n=119), followed by PU1R/2 M at 22% (n = 100) and MY09/11 at 15% (n=69). Multiple infections occurred in 87.3% (n=142), primarily 2 to 4 types (47.37%, n=90). Dominant types were HPV-18 (15.6%, n=61), HPV-16 (14.9%, n=58), HPV-31 (13.0%, n = 51), and HPV-45 (11.5%, n=45). Logistic regression identified age above 60 as a risk for concurrent multiple types (OR=6.10; 95% CI 1.18-31.63). Menopause was protective (OR=0.31; 95% CI 0.11-0.89). CONCLUSIONS Our study reveals a notable prevalence of multiple (2-4) high-risk HPV infections among adult women engaged in CC detection initiatives. Predominantly, α7 species constitute the prevalent HR-viral types, with the Medio Sinú subregion showing elevated prevalence. Menopausal status confers protection against diverse HR-HPV infections. Nevertheless, advancing age, particularly beyond 60 years, is linked to an increased susceptibility to simultaneous infections by multiple HPV-types.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to assess associations of potential risk factors with human papillomavirus (HPV) seropositivity among men who have sex with men (MSM) and compare these to risk factors for anal and penile (HPV) deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)-positivity in the same study population. METHODS Seropositivity and anal and penile HPV DNA-positivity were determined for seven high-risk HPV genotypes for MSM aged 16-24 years participating in Papillomavirus Surveillance among STI clinic Youngsters in the Netherlands (PASSYON) 2009-2021. Logistic regression models were conducted to assess risk factors for seropositivity, anal and penile HPV DNA-positivity. RESULTS Overall, 1019 MSM were included. HPV-16 and -18 were most common for serology, and anal and penile HPV DNA-positivity. Although no clear similarities were observed for most risk factors for HPV seropositivity and anal or penile DNA positivity, receptive anal intercourse (RAI) was the strongest associated risk factor for both seropositivity ('RAI ever' adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 3.50, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.56-7.88; 'RAI previous 6 months' aOR 2.17, 95% CI 1.44-3.26) and anal DNA-positivity ('RAI previous 6 months' aOR 1.67, 95% CI 1.09-2.56). CONCLUSIONS Our study is suggestive of site-specific immune response after HPV infection; RAI might lead to anal HPV infections and consequently to seroconversion. Finally, as the two genotypes that are most oncogenic and preventable by all HPV vaccines were most common, our results underline the importance of gender-neutral vaccination.

Abstract
Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infection and HPV-related cancers can be prevented through vaccinations and mass cervical screening programmes. The Ministry of Health in Italy provides recommendations on primary and secondary prevention of HPV-related diseases, but the 19 Italian regions and 2 autonomous provinces have organisational and decision-making autonomy, with differences in the strategies for offering prevention. The aim of this study is to describe the HPV vaccination and cervical screening offered in all Italian regions. Regional official documents up until 31 December 2021 were first identified. Subsequently, primary and secondary prevention experts from each region were interviewed to validate the previously collected data. The National Immunisation Plan (NIP) 2017-2019 recommends HPV vaccination from the age of 11 for both sexes, with a coverage target of 95%. HPV vaccination is offered free of charge or co-payment. All regions have screening programmes for cervical cancer, using PAP or HPV-DNA tests every three to five years. All regions have an electronic registry for vaccination and screening status. All regions have developed awareness-raising campaigns. It is important to harmonise regional policies with the implementation of information systems integration. The collected data could enhance both regional and national public health initiatives, bolstering the resilience of vaccination programs.

Abstract
Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections worldwide. It is caused by the HPV, a DNA virus that infects epithelial cells in various mucous membranes and skin surfaces. HPV can be categorised into high-risk and low-risk types based on their association with the development of certain cancers. High-risk HPV types, such as HPV-16 and HPV-18, are known to be oncogenic and are strongly associated with the development of cervical, anal, vaginal, vulvar, penile, and oropharyngeal cancers. These types of HPV can persist in the body for an extended period and, in some cases, lead to the formation of precancerous lesions that may progress to cancer if left untreated. Low-risk HPV types, such as HPV-6 and HPV-11, are not typically associated with cancer but can cause benign conditions like genital warts. Genital warts are characterised by the growth of small, cauliflower-like bumps on the genital and anal areas. Although not life-threatening, they can cause discomfort and psychological distress. HPV is primarily transmitted through sexual contact, including vaginal, anal, and oral sex. It can also be transmitted through non-penetrative sexual activities that involve skin-to-skin contact. In addition to sexual transmission, vertical transmission from mother to child during childbirth is possible but relatively rare. Prevention of HPV infection includes vaccination and safe sexual practices. HPV vaccines, such as Gardasil and Cervarix, are highly effective in preventing infection with the most common high-risk HPV types. These vaccines are typically administered to adolescents and young adults before they become sexually active. Safe sexual practices, such as consistent and correct condom use and limiting the number of sexual partners, can also reduce the risk of HPV transmission. Diagnosis of HPV infection can be challenging because the infection is often asymptomatic, especially in men. In women, HPV testing can be done through cervical screening programs, which involve the collection of cervical cells for analysis. Abnormal results may lead to further diagnostic procedures, such as colposcopy or biopsy, to detect precancerous or cancerous changes. Overall, HPV infection is a prevalent sexually transmitted infection with significant implications for public health. Vaccination, regular screening, and early treatment of precancerous lesions are key strategies to reduce the burden of HPV-related diseases and their associated complications. Education and awareness about HPV and its prevention are crucial in promoting optimal sexual health. This study aimed to carry out a literature review considering several aspects involving HPV infection: Global distribution, prevalence, biology, host interactions, cancer development, prevention, therapeutics, coinfection with other viruses, coinfection with bacteria, association with head and neck squamous cell carcinomas, and association with anal cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Human papillomavirus (HPV), the most prevalent sexually transmitted infection globally, is a key risk factor for high-grade cervical lesions and cervical cancer. Since 2009, HPV vaccination has been part of the national immunization program for girls in 7th grade in Norway (women born 1997 and later). This study aimed to assess the impact of HPV vaccination on the incidence of high-grade cervical precursors (CIN2+) among women aged 20-25 in Troms and Finnmark over a 15-year period. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this time series study, we analyzed cervical screening data from 15,328 women aged 20-25 in Troms and Finnmark, collected between 2008 and 2022. Statistical methods, including linear and logistic regression, were employed to evaluate changes in cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 and worse (CIN2+) incidence and compare risks between vaccine-offered cohorts and pre-vaccine cohorts. RESULTS The incidence of CIN2+ initially increased from 31 cases per year in 2008 to 110 cases in 2018, then significantly decreased to 44 cases per year by 2022 (p < 0.01). Women in pre-vaccine cohorts had a substantially higher risk of CIN2+ (OR 9.02, 95% CI 5.9-13.8) and CIN3+ (OR 19.6, 95% CI 7.3-52.6). Notably, no vaccinated women with CIN2+ tested positive for HPV types 16 or 18. Furthermore, none of the 13 cervical cancer cases recorded during the study were from the vaccinated cohorts. INTERPRETATION The findings suggest a significant reduction in the incidence of high-grade cervical precursors following the introduction of the HPV vaccine in Norway's national immunization program, highlighting its effectiveness in cervical cancer prevention among young women in Northern Norway.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A population-based cervical cancer screening programme is implemented in the Czech Republic. However, participation is insufficient among women over 50 years. This study aimed to estimate the potential improvement in participation through directly mailed HPV self-sampling kits (HPVssk) compared with standard invitation letters in women aged 50-65 non-participating in screening. METHODS The study recruited 1564 eligible women (no cervical cancer screening in the last 3 years or more, no previous treatment associated with cervical lesions or cervical cancer). Eight hundred women were mailed with an HPVssk (HPVssk group), and 764 women were sent a standard invitation letter (control group) inviting them to a routine screening (Pap test). The primary outcome was a comparison of the overall participation rate between study groups using a binominal regression model. RESULTS The participation rate in the HPVssk group was 13.4% [95% confidence interval (CI) 11.2-15.9%; 7.4% of women returned the HPVssk and 6.0% attended gynaecological examination] and 5.0% (95% CI 3.6-6.8%) in the control group. Using the binominal regression model, the difference between the groups was estimated as 7.6% (95% CI 5.0-10.2%; P < 0.001). In the HPVssk group, 22% of women who returned HPVssk had a positive result and 70% of them underwent a follow-up examination. CONCLUSIONS Compared with traditional invitation letters, the direct mailing of the HPVssk achieved a significantly higher participation rate, along with a notable HPV positivity rate among HPVssk responders. This approach offers a potentially viable method for engaging women who have not yet attended a cervical screening programme.

Abstract
Objectives Human papillomavirus (HPV) and Trichomonas vaginalis (TV) infections have been proposed as risk factors for cervical cancer. This study has been conducted with the aim of investigating the prevalence of TV and its relationship with HPV in women who underwent Pap smear testing as part of cancer screenings. Materials and methods The sampling of liquid-based cervical tissue was conducted among 500 women referred to the women's clinic of Shahid Sadoughi Hospital in Yazd, Iran. The studied samples were examined for Pap smear tests and microscopic identification of TV, as well as HPV-DNA detection and the determination of high-risk and low-risk HPV types by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method. The results were analyzed using the IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 24 (Released 2016; IBM Corp., Armonk, New York) software. Results The individuals included in the study were 16-72 years old. The prevalence rate of TV infection in this population was found to be 29.2%, and the frequency rate of HPV was reported to be approximately 19.4%, with high-risk HPV, including HPV-56, having the highest frequency. The Pap smear test results were reported as abnormal in 20.2%, and a significant correlation was observed between HPV infection and an abnormal Pap smear test (P < 0.05). In addition, a notable correlation was detected between TV infection and high-risk and low-risk HPV (P < 0.05). Conclusion According to the significant relationship found between the two pathogens, TV and HPV, in the abnormal Pap smear test results, TV infection can be considered a risk factor for HPV infection, as well as uterine lesions and cancer.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Despite documented effectiveness in preventing several cancers, genital warts and safety of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, immunization coverage among French adolescents remains far from the 80 % target. University health students (HS) in France may promote HPV vaccine through a national service (Service Sanitaire des Etudiants en Santé). We aimed to evaluate intentions to recommend the HPV vaccine to friends and relatives, to receive HPV vaccine, and to identify factors associated with these attitudes. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional survey in five French Universities from October 2019 to February 2020, using a self-administered online questionnaire. We used bivariable and multivariable logistic regression models to identify determinants of behavior around HPV vaccine: (i) individual intention for vaccination, and (ii) vaccine recommendation to friends and relatives. RESULTS Among the 732 respondents (180 men, 552 women), 305 (41.7%) reported previous HPV vaccination (54.5 % among women), 504 (68.9%) would recommend the HPV vaccine to friends and relatives, 532 (72.7%) respondents would be vaccinated today if it was recommended for them. Intentions to recommend or to receive the HPV vaccine were less frequent in nursing students compared to medical and pharmacy students. After adjustment for demographical factors, HPV vaccine knowledge was associated with intention [aOR 1.30 (95%-confidence interval, 1.15-1.47)] and recommendation [1.26 (1.10-1.45)], respectively. Additionally, adjusting for knowledge about HPV infections, and confidence in vaccines in general was associated with vaccine intention [1.55, (1.30-1.84)] and recommendation [1.52 (1.24-1.86)]. HPV-vaccinated HS were more prone to recommend the HPV vaccine to friends and relatives [10.9 (6.6-17.9)]. CONCLUSION A majority of HS would accept and/or recommend HPV vaccines. HS with greater knowledge about the HPV vaccine were more prone to recommend it. Strengthening knowledge about HPV and its vaccination is probably necessary before their Involvement in a HPV immunization program.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination has shown high efficacy against anal HPV infection and lesions in clinical trials, and the HPV prevalence and type distribution in anal precancers and cancer predict a high preventable potential for HPV vaccination. However, the real-world effectiveness of HPV vaccination against anal high-grade lesions and cancer is yet to be shown. METHODS We investigated HPV vaccine effectiveness against anal high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) or worse in a nationwide cohort including all Danish women aged 17-32 years during October 2006 to December 2021 (n = 968 881). HPV vaccinations and first occurrence of anal HSIL or worse were retrieved from nationwide registries. Women were considered vaccinated after first dose and classified by age at vaccination. Using Cox regression, hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated for anal HSIL or worse according to vaccination status. RESULTS During follow-up, the number of incident histological anal HSIL or worse cases was 37 in unvaccinated women, and less than 5 and 26 in women vaccinated at ages younger than 17 years and 17-32 years, respectively. The overall number of cancers was less than 5. Compared with unvaccinated women, the risk of histological anal HSIL or worse was reduced for women vaccinated at age younger than 17 years (HR = 0.30, 95% CI = 0.10 to 0.87). For women vaccinated at age 17-32 years, the hazard rate of anal HSIL or worse was 1.21 (95% CI = 0.73 to 2.03). CONCLUSION This is the first study to demonstrate that HPV vaccination at a younger age is associated with substantially reduced risk of anal HSIL or worse in the general population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cervical cancer (CC) has become the fourth most common cancer worldwide and it is mainly caused by the infection of human papillomavirus (HPV), especially high-risk HPV16. Aberrant miRNA expression in CC is closely related to HPV16 infection, and the regulation of HPV16 E6 expression can affect a variety of miRNA expression. This study aims to exploring the miRNAs involved in E6 regulation in CC. METHODS Our study screened differentially expressed miRNAs in cervical cells of HPV16 infected and uninfected cervical cancer patients by analyzing the GSE81137 dataset of the gene expression omnibus database (GEO), and identified miR-320a that plays an anti-tumor role and is associated with good prognosis of cervical cancer. Explore the effect of HPV16 E6 on the expression of miR-320a in cervical cancer, and verify whether HPV16 E6 regulates the downstream target gene TOP2A expression through miR-320a, thereby affecting cervical cancer cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, invasion, and EMT in vitro and in vivo. RESULTS The bioinformatic methods selected the miR-320a, which was differentially expressed in cervical cells from HPV16-infected patients compared to uninfected patients. We further demonstrated that miR-320a level was regulated by HPV16 E6, which promoted the CC cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and inhibited apoptosis. In addition, we predicted the downstream target genes of miR-320a and confirmed that TOP2A was one of its targeting proteins. Moreover, HPV16 E6 promoted the TOP2A expression in CC cells through down-regulating miR-320a, leading to promoting CC development. CONCLUSIONS We confirmed that HPV16 E6 promoted the TOP2A expression through down-regulation of miR-320a, thus promoting CC development, and the HPV16 E6/miR-320a/TOP2A axis may perform as a potential target for CC treatment.

Abstract
Sexual health is an often neglected topic in otolaryngology. Ironically, most sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) demonstrate head and neck manifestations. Furthermore, many aspects of human sexuality, both pathologic and nonpathologic, are also integral to the head and neck. The human papillomavirus (HPV) serves as a prime example of the otolaryngologist's increasingly important role. In recent decades, HPV-mediated head and neck cancer has surpassed HPV-mediated cancer in other parts of the body. This dramatic rise has led to not only a change in the staging system, but also a fundamental shift in the treatment paradigm. Similarly, when considering all aspects of sexual health pertaining to the head and neck, a comparable paradigm shift is needed due to the changing needs of our patients. To accomplish this, otolaryngologists must be better educated and take a leading role when it comes to sexual health.

Abstract
Background The Americas region has the lowest (North America) and the second highest (Latin America and Caribbean) cervical cancer (CC) mortality worldwide. The lack of reliable data on screening coverage in the region hinders proper monitoring of the World Health Organization (WHO) CC elimination initiative. Methods For this synthetic analysis, we searched data on CC screening coverage from official sources and national health surveys, supplemented with a formal WHO country consultation. Context data were obtained from official sources (income, health expenditure, inequality-adjusted human development index -IHDI-, universal health coverage, CC incidence/mortality). Country age-specific coverages for 2019 by screening interval were computed. Missing data were imputed through a multi-step algorithm. Beta-regression and Poisson-regression models were used to analyse associations between context variables, screening coverage, and CC mortality. Findings We included data from 37 countries in the Americas. Data on coverage of HPV testing was scarce, and for many countries only Pap-smear coverage data was available. Overall, 78%, 34%, 60%, and 67% of women aged 25-65 years have been screened ever in their lifetime, and in the previous year, 3 years, and 5 years, respectively. By sub-region, 3-year coverage ranges from 48% (South America) to 72% (North America). Twenty-four countries showed screening coverage below 70%. Income and health system type were associated with screening coverage, but coverage was not associated with CC mortality. Interpretation In the Americas region 35.1% and 56.8% of countries report 3-year and 5-year coverage over 70%, respectively. Inequalities remain a major challenge for screening programs in the region. The elimination campaign should reinforce the transition to HPV testing and strengthen surveillance systems. Abstract
Human papillomavirus (HPV) E6 and E7 genes are biomarkers and drivers of the progression of cervical cancer (CxCa). The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between HPV16 E6, E7 gene mutations and the occurrence and development of CxCa. Cervical exfoliated cells and clinical data of patients with cervical diseases were collected. Sample DNA was extracted, the E6 and E7 gene fragments were amplified by PCR, and the mutations were detected by Sanger sequencing and compared with standard sequences. Microarray was used to sequence the transcriptome of cells. Data of transcriptome analyzed and visualized using R software and its packages. Analysis of clinical characteristics demonstrated the association of HPV16 infection with CxCa (P < .05). Sanger sequencing results showed that the mutation sites of E6 gene included T178G/A, T350G, A131C, and T241G; among these, A131C and T241G were synonymous mutations. The mutation sites of E7 gene included A647G, T846C, G666A, T843C, and T760C, and all of them were synonymous mutations except A647G. There was no significant difference in the distribution of HPV16 E6, E7 mutations among CxCa, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, and infection groups (P > .05). Compared with the non- CxCa group, gene ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment analysis of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) showed more significant enrichment of DEGs in the biological processes, pathways, and diseases closely related to cancer. Compared with the non-mutation group, the DEGs in the E6, E7 gene mutation group were significantly enriched in the events related to infection and immunity. To summarize, HPV16 may be associated with the occurrence and development of CxCa, but HPV16 E6 and E7 gene mutations have little effect on the occurrence and development of CxCa. Individual differences may have a greater effect on the progression of CxCa.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is effective in averting 70%-90% of all HPV-related diseases. The assessment of its awareness, uptake and willingness to pay (WTP) is important in Nigeria which is one of the developing countries where more than three-quarter of the global burden of HPV-related diseases occur. This study aimed to determine the sociodemographic factors associated with the awareness, uptake and WTP for HPV vaccine amongst undergraduates in a tertiary institution in North Central Nigeria. METHODS This was a cross-sectional study. Data were collected from randomly sampled respondents through a validated self-administered questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, Chi-square and logistic regression analyses were applied to data collected to determine the awareness, uptake and WTP for HPV vaccine and their association with sociodemographic factors. The results of inferential statistics were considered significant when P < 0.05. RESULTS A total of 240 respondents were recruited, 15.4% of the respondents had heard about HPV vaccine, 2.1% of them had received at least a dose of the vaccine, 0.4% of them had completed three doses and 35.0% of them were willing to pay for it. Marital status (adjusted odds ratio [AOR]: 10.2; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.840-36.635) and parity (AOR: 5.8; 95% CI: 2.314-14.565) were predictors of WTP for the HPV vaccine. CONCLUSION The evidence generated from this study suggests that there is a need to increase the awareness and uptake of the vaccine at the individual and population levels. The recent introduction of the HPV vaccine is a laudable step towards improving vaccine uptake. Public health authorities at the local, state and national levels should be empowered to develop tailored vaccine demand creation and advocacy strategies for HPV vaccine. Males should also be involved in the advocacy strategies and research on HPV vaccine.

Abstract
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a class of envelope-free double-stranded DNA virus. HPV infection has been strongly associated with the development of many malignancies, such as cervical, anal and oral cancers. The viral oncoproteins E6 and E7 perform central roles on HPV-induced carcinogenic processes. During tumor development, it usually goes along with the activation of abnormal signaling pathways. E6 and E7 induces changes in cell cycle, proliferation, invasion, metastasis and other biological behaviors by affecting downstream tumor-related signaling pathways, thus promoting malignant transformation of cells and ultimately leading to tumorigenesis and progression. Here, we summarized that E6 and E7 proteins promote HPV-associated tumorigenesis and development by regulating the activation of various tumor-related signaling pathways, for example, the Wnt/β-catenin, PI3K/Akt, and NF-kB signaling pathway. We also discussed the importance of HPV-encoded E6 and E7 and their regulated tumor-related signaling pathways for the diagnosis and effective treatment of HPV-associated tumors.

Abstract
As an important and serious condition impacting human health, the diagnosis, and treatment of tumours is clinically vital because tumour cell immune escape sustains tumour development. Programed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) on tumour cell surfaces binds to the programed death-1 (PD-1), inhibits T cell activation, and induces apoptosis, and incapacitates cells. This allows tumour cells to evade recognition and clearance by the immune system, thereby permitting tumour occurrence, and development and poor prognosis outcomes in patients with tumours. Currently, anti-PD-1/PD-L1 immunotherapy has become pivotal in tumour treatment. Pathogens, especially viruses, are important factors which induce many tumours. In this article, we examine associations between Epstein-Barr virus, human papilloma virus, hepatitis B virus, hepatitis C virus, and human immunodeficiency virus type 1-related tumours and PD-1/PD-L1 axis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Human papillomavirus (HPV) 16 non-A lineage variants have higher carcinogenic potential for cervical cancer. HPV-16 variants natural history among males is not established. We evaluated HPV-16 variants prevalence and persistence in the external genitalia of men enrolled in the prospective HPV Infection in Men (HIM) Study. METHODS The HIM Study included men from the United States, Brazil, and Mexico. HPV-16 variants were distinguished using polymerase chain reaction sequencing. The prevalence of HPV-16 variants was assessed, and associations with infection persistence were estimated. RESULTS We characterized the HPV-16 variants for 1700 genital swab samples from 753 men and 22 external genital lesions in 17 men. The prevalence of HPV-16 lineages differed by country and marital status (P < .001). Overall, 90.9% of participants harbored lineage A variants. The prevalence of non-A lineages was heterogenous among countries. HPV-16 lineage A variants were associated with a 2.69-fold increased risk of long-term persistent infections compared with non-A lineages. All high-grade penile intraepithelial neoplasia harbored lineage A variants and occurred in the context of long-term persistent infections with the same variants. CONCLUSIONS The prevalence and persistence of HPV-16 variants observed at the male external genitalia suggest differences in the natural history of these variants between men and women, which may be associated with intrinsic differences in the infected genital epithelia.

Abstract
AIM This study aimed to determine the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of male nurses towards human papillomavirus (HPV) and HPV vaccination and to examine whether knowledge about the HPV vaccine affects attitudes and beliefs about HPV vaccines. BACKGROUND HPV is responsible for ≈5% of all cancers worldwide. Therefore, vaccination against HPV is recommended to prevent HPV infections and HPV-related cancers in men and women. METHODS The study group included 383 male nurses who were asked to complete online questionnaires. The data were collected using the following tools: a sociodeomographical characteristics form, the Human Papillomavirus Knowledge Scale (HPVKS), and The Carolina HPV Immunization Attitudes and Beliefs Scale (CHIAS). RESULTS It was determined that the general HPV knowledge of the male nurses participating in the study was at a moderate level, but their knowledge of HPV screening test, HPV vaccination, and current HPV vaccination programmes were at a low level. Male nurses' HPV vaccination rates were relatively low, and most of them did not intend to be vaccinated. In addition, CHIAS Attitudes and Beliefs scores of the male nurses were at an average level and HPV knowledge affected the attitudes and beliefs of the nurses. CONCLUSION These results demonstrate an opportunity to improve information and awareness about HPV and vaccines by nursing education.

Abstract
Cervical cancer is the second-most prevalent gynecologic cancer in India. It is typically detected in women between the ages of 35 and 44. Cervical cancer is mainly associated with the human papillomavirus (HPV). The report shows that 70 % of cervical cancer is caused by HPV 16 and 18. There are few therapeutic options and vaccines available for cervical cancer treatment and γδ T cell therapy is one of them. This therapy can kill various types of cancers, including cervical cancer. The major γδ T cell subset is the Vγ9Vδ2 T cell, mainly distributed in peripheral blood which recognize non-MHC peptide antigens and can eliminate MHC-downregulated cancer. Moreover, γδ T cells can express different types of receptors that bind to the molecules of stressed cells, often produced on cancerous cells but absent from healthy tissue. γδ T cells possess both direct and indirect cytotoxic capabilities against malignancies and show potential antitumoral responses. However, γδ T cells also encourage the progression of cancer. Cancer immunotherapy using γδ T cells will be a potential cancer treatment, as well as cervical cancer. This review focused on the γδ T cell and its function in cancer, with special emphasis on cervical cancer. It also focused on the ligand recognition site of γδ T cells, galectin-mediated therapy and pamidronate-treated therapy for cervical cancer. Instead of the great potential of γδ T cell for the eradication of cervical cancer, no comprehensive in-depth review is available to date, so there is a need to jot down the various roles and modes of action and different applications of γδ T cells for cancer research, which we believe will be a handy tool for the researchers and the readers.

Abstract
The International Papillomavirus Conference was held in Washington DC in April 2023 and encompassed wide ranging basic, clinical and public health research relating to animal and human papillomaviruses. This editorial is a personal reflection, it does not attempt to be comprehensive and reports on some key aspects centred on the prospects for immune interventions in prevention and treatment of HPV infections and early precancers with a focus on cervical neoplasia. There is optimism for the future impact of immunotherapy in treating early HPV associated disease. This will depend on developing an appropriate design of vaccines and delivery vehicles which then need to be properly tested in clinical trials that are able to measure a useful clinical endpoint. Thereafter vaccines (prophylactic or therapeutic) still need global access and sufficient uptake to deliver impact and a key and necessary driver is education.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To present recommendations based on the available evidence and the consensus of experts, for risk management of biological treatment and JAK inhibitors in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. METHODS Clinical research questions relevant to the purpose of the document were identified. These questions were reformulated in PICO format (patient, intervention, comparison, outcome or outcome) by a panel of experts, selected based on their experience in the area. A systematic review of the evidence was carried out, grading according to the GRADE criteria (Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation). Specific recommendations were then formulated. RESULTS 6 PICO questions were proposed by the panel of experts based on their clinical relevance and the existence of recent information regarding the risk of occurrence of serious infections, the risk of reactivation of the hepatitis B virus, the risk of reactivation of the virus varicella-zoster, the risk of appearance of skin (melanoma and non-melanoma) or haematological cancer, the risk of appearance of thromboembolic disease and the risk of progression of the human papilloma virus. A total of 28 recommendations were formulated, structured by question, based on the evidence found and the consensus of the experts. CONCLUSIONS The SER recommendations on risk management of treatment with biologic therapies and JAK inhibitors in rheumatoid arthritis are presented.

Abstract
Patients with anal condyloma acuminatum (CA) are at risk of developing anal cancer which is associated with oncogenic human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Investigation of anal HPV prevalence and risk factors can provide effective strategies for the prevention of anal cancer. A retrospective study was conducted among 549 patients with anal CA in the Third People's Hospital of Shenzhen between January 2019 and October 2021. HPV prevalence and HIV antibodies were detected by fluorescent PCR and ELISA, respectively. Logistic regression model and structural equation modeling (SEM) were conducted to analyzed the risk factors of oncogenic HPV infection. The overall prevalence of HPV was 96.72%. Both HPV6 (N = 285, 51.91%) and HPV11 (N = 300, 54.64%) were more than half infected and the most frequent Hr-HPV genotype was HPV16 (N = 138, 25.14%). HIV-positive (AOR: 5.02, 95% CI: 2.98-8.60, p < 0.0001) and history of syphilis (AOR: 4.24, 95% CI: 2.31-8.46, p < 0.0001) were independent risk factors statistically associated with oncogenic HPV infection. Ever had anal sex (AOR: 3.40, 95% CI: 1.28-11.81, p = 0.0267) and age 35 years and older (AOR: 2.79, 95% CI: 1.53-5.15, p = 0.0009) were associated with HPV16 and HPV52, respectively. SEM analyses showed that HIV-positive (b = 1.549, p < 0.001) and history of syphilis (b = 1.450, p < 0.001) had significant positive effects on oncogenic HPV infection. Ever had anal sex (b = 1.243, p = 0.025) and Age (b = 0.043, p = 0.002) positively drived HPV16 and HPV52 infection, respectively. Anal CA patients who are HIV-positive, have a history of syphilis, or at least 35 years old should be considered for Hr-HPV, cytology and other anal cancer related tests to reduce the risk of cancer development.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The survival of patients with cervical cancer who are treated with cisplatin in conjunction with the topoisomerase I inhibitor topotecan is enhanced when compared with patients treated with only one of these chemotherapeutics. Moreover, cisplatin-based and T cell-based immunotherapy have been shown to synergize, resulting in stronger antitumor responses. Here, we interrogated whether topotecan could further enhance the synergy of cisplatin with T cell-based cancer immunotherapy. METHODS Mice bearing human papilloma virus 16 (HPV16) E6/E7-expressing TC-1 tumors were vaccinated with HPV16 E7 long peptides and additionally received chemotherapy consisting of cisplatin and topotecan. We performed an in-depth study of this combinatorial chemoimmunotherapy on the effector function and expansion/contraction kinetics of vaccine-induced CD8+ T cells in the peripheral blood and tumor microenvironment (TME). In addition, we interrogated the particular role of chemotherapy-induced upregulation of costimulatory ligands by tumor-infiltrated myeloid cells on T cell proliferation and survival. RESULTS We show that E7 long peptide vaccination combined with cisplatin and topotecan, results in CD8+ T cell-dependent durable rejection of established tumors and 94% long-term survival. Although topotecan initially repressed the expansion of vaccine-induced CD8+ T cells, these cells eventually expanded vigorously, which was followed by delayed contraction. These effects associated with the induction of the proliferation marker Ki-67 and the antiapoptosis molecule Bcl-2 by intratumoral tumor-specific CD8+ T cells, which was regulated by topotecan-mediated upregulation of the costimulatory ligand CD70 on myeloid cells in the TME. CONCLUSIONS Taken together, our data show that although treatment with cisplatin, topotecan and vaccination initially delays T cell expansion, this combinatorial therapy results eventually in a more robust T cell-mediated tumor eradication due to enhancement of costimulatory molecules in the TME.

Abstract
Mucosal human papillomavirus (HPV) subtypes 16 and 18 are causative agents of cervical cancer, a leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women worldwide. In Japan, eggplant calyx is a folk remedy used to treat common warts. 9-oxo-(10E,12E)-octadecadienoic acid, isolated from eggplant calyx, may have antitumor effects. This study investigated the antitumor effects of 9-oxo-(10E, 12Z)-octadecadienoic acid and 9-oxo-(10E,12E)-octadecadienoic acid (9-oxo-ODAs) on human cervical cancer cells. 9-oxo-ODAs suppressed the proliferation of human cervical cancer cell lines (HeLa, and SiHa) in a concentration-dependent manner (IC50 = 25-50 µM). FCM analysis revealed that 9-oxo-ODAs induced apoptosis. Transcriptome, proteomics, and enrichment analyses revealed that treatment with 9-oxo-ODAs significantly altered the cell cycle and p53 pathways and decreased cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (CDK1) protein expression. Real-time PCR analysis demonstrated that 9-oxo-ODAs reduced CDK1 mRNA expression in a concentration-dependent manner. In vitro, 9-oxo-ODAs reduced the HPV oncoprotein expression. In ex vivo human cervical cancer tissues, 9-oxo-ODAs decreased CDK1 expression and increased cleaved caspase 3, an apoptosis marker. Further, 9-oxo-ODAs showed the potential to suppressed metastatic formation and growth of cervical cancer in vivo. These findings suggest that 9-oxo-ODAs induce cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in HPV-positive human cervical cancer cells, and this process involves CDK1. Consequently, 9-oxo-ODAs may be potential therapeutic agents for cervical cancer.

Abstract
Over the years, the pace of developing vaccines for HBV and HPV has never stopped. After more than 30 years of application, the HBV vaccine has reduced 80% of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, vaccine escape variants occur under selective pressure induced by widespread vaccination and antiviral therapy, which results in fulminant infection and horizontal transmission. Several mechanisms have been studied to explain HBV vaccine escape, including vaccine escape mutations (VEMs) in the major hydrophilic region, which leads to a decrease in the binding ability to neutralize antibodies and is the primary escape mechanism, protein conformational and N-linked glycosylation sites changes caused by VEMs, differences in genotype distribution, gene recombination, and some temporarily unknown reasons. However, effective solutions are still being explored. The HPV vaccine has also been proven to prevent 70%-90% of cervical cancer worldwide. Cases of HPV infection after being vaccinated have been observed in clinical practice. However, few researchers have paid attention to the mechanism of HPV vaccine escape. Thus, we reviewed the literature on vaccine escape of both HBV and HPV to discuss the mechanism of the virus escaping from vaccine protection and possible solutions to this problem. We analyzed the gap between studies of HPV and HBV and made prospects for further research in HPV vaccine escape.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE Respectively, HPV16 and HPV18 cause 50% and 20% of cervical cancer cases globally. Viral proteins E6 and E7 are obligate drivers of oncogenic transformation. We recently developed a candidate therapeutic DNA vaccine, pBI-11, that targets HPV16 and HPV18 E6 and E7. Single-site intramuscular delivery of pBI-11 via a needle elicited therapeutic anti-tumor effects in mice and is now being tested in high-risk human papillomavirus+ head and neck cancer patients (NCT05799144). Needle-free biojectors such as the Tropis device show promise due to ease of administration, high patient acceptability, and the possibility of improved delivery. For example, vaccination of patients with the ZyCoV-D DNA vaccine using the Tropis device is effective against COVID19, well tolerated, and licensed. Here we show that split-dose, multi-site administration and intradermal delivery via the Tropis biojector increase the delivery of pBI-11 DNA vaccine, enhance HPV antigen-specific CD8+ T-cell responses, and improve anti-tumor therapeutic effects, suggesting its translational potential to treat HPV16/18 infection and disease.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES We aim to assess the efficacy and safety of therapeutic human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines to treat cervical intraepithelial neoplasia of grade 2 or 3 (CIN 2/3). DESIGN Systematic review and meta-analysis, following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses recommendations. DATA SOURCES PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Global Index Medicus and CENTRAL Cochrane were searched up to 31 January 2022. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Phase II/III randomised controlled trials (RCTs) and single-arm studies reporting the efficacy of therapeutic vaccines to achieve regression of CIN 2/3 lesions were included. Studies evaluating only safety and side effects of the vaccine were excluded. DATA EXTRACTION AND SYNTHESIS Two independent reviewers extracted data and evaluated study quality. A random-effect model was used to pool the proportions of regression and/or HPV clearance. RESULTS 12 trials met the inclusion criteria. Out of 734 women (all studies considered) receiving therapeutic HPV vaccine for CIN 2/3, 414 regressed to normal/CIN 1 with an overall proportion of regression of 0.54 (95% CI 0.39 to 0.69) for vaccinated group; 166 women (from five RCTs) receiving placebo only achieving a pooled normal/CIN 1 regression of 0.27 (95% CI 0.20 to 0.34). When including only the five two-arm studies, the regression proportion for the 410 vaccine group participants was higher than that of the 166 control group participants (relative risk (RR) 1.52; 95% CI 1.14 to 2.04). The pooled proportion of high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) clearance was 0.42 (95% CI 0.32 to 0.52) in the vaccine group (six studies with a total of 357 participants) and 0.17 (95% CI 0.11 to 0.26) in the control group (three RCTs with a total of 104 participants). Based on these three RCTs, the hrHPV clearance was significantly higher in the vaccinated group (250 participants) compared with the control group (RR 2.03; 95% CI 1.30 to 3.16). Similar results were found regarding HPV 16/18 clearance. No significant unsolicited adverse events have been consistently reported. CONCLUSIONS The efficacy of the therapeutic vaccines in the treatment of CIN 2/3 was modest. Implementation issues such as feasibility, acceptability, adoption and cost-effectiveness need to be further studied. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER CRD42022307418.

Abstract
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common sexually transmitted virus that can lead to the development of various types of cancer. While there are vaccines available to prevent HPV infection, there is also growing interest in the role of nutrition in reducing the risk of HPV-related cancers in HPV positive patients. Diet and nutrition play a critical role in maintaining overall health and preventing various diseases. A healthy diet can strengthen the immune system, which is essential for fighting off infections, including HPV infections, and preventing the growth and spread of cancer cells. Therefore, following a healthy diet and maintaining a healthy weight are important components of HPV and cancer prevention. This article explores the current scientific evidence on the relationship between nutrition and HPV, including the impact of specific nutrients, dietary patterns, and supplements on HPV infection toward cancer progression.

Abstract
For a considerable duration, cervical cancer has posed a significant risk to the well-being and survival of women. The emergence and progression of cervical cancer have garnered extensive attention, with prolonged chronic infection of HPV serving as a crucial etiological factor. Consequently, investigating the molecular mechanism underlying HPV-induced cervical cancer has become a prominent research area. The HPV molecule is composed of a long control region (LCR), an early coding region and a late coding region.The early coding region encompasses E1, E2, E4, E5, E6, E7, while the late coding region comprises L1 and L2 ORF.The investigation into the molecular structure and function of HPV has garnered significant attention, with the aim of elucidating the carcinogenic mechanism of HPV and identifying potential targets for the treatment of cervical cancer. Research has demonstrated that the HPV gene and its encoded protein play a crucial role in the invasion and malignant transformation of host cells. Consequently, understanding the function of HPV oncoprotein is of paramount importance in comprehending the pathogenesis of cervical cancer. E6 and E7, the primary HPV oncogenic proteins, have been the subject of extensive study. Moreover, a number of contemporary investigations have demonstrated the significant involvement of HPV16 E5 oncoprotein in the malignant conversion of healthy cells through its regulation of cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis via diverse pathways, albeit the precise molecular mechanism remains unclear. This manuscript aims to provide a comprehensive account of the molecular structure and life cycle of HPV.The HPV E5 oncoprotein mechanism modulates cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and energy metabolism through its interaction with cell growth factor receptors and other cellular proteins. This mechanism is crucial for the survival, adhesion, migration, and invasion of tumor cells in the early stages of carcinogenesis. Recent studies have identified the HPV E5 oncoprotein as a promising therapeutic target for early-stage cervical cancer, thus offering a novel approach for treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite the known benefits of preventing human papillomavirus (HPV)-related cancers, HPV vaccine coverage is low in the United States. Grounded in Social Ecological theory, we assessed the macro-level (state) and meso-level (organization) factors associated with HPV vaccine initiation and up-to-date. METHODS Data from 2020 National Immunization Survey-Teen were used to study a sample of 20 163 US adolescents (aged 13-17 years). The data were collected from each teen's parents or guardians and health-care professionals. Weighted prevalence estimates were calculated, and multivariable regression analyses were conducted. RESULTS The prevalence of HPV vaccine initiation was 75.1% and of remaining up-to-date was 58.6%. At the macro level, teens living in states with high and moderate religiosity had lower odds of HPV vaccine initiation (high religiosity adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 0.63, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.50 to 0.78; moderate religiosity AOR = 0.68, 95% CI = 0.55 to 0.85) and up-to-date (high religiosity AOR = 0.69, 95% CI = 0.56 to 0.85; moderate religiosity AOR = 0.74, 95% CI = 0.61 to 0.91) than states with low religiosity. At the meso level, when none of their healthcare professionals ordered vaccine from the state, teens had lower odds of initiation (AOR = 0.68, 95% CI = 0.53 to 0.87) and up-to-date (AOR = 0.76, 95% CI = 0.60 to 0.95) than teens whose healthcare professionals ordered vaccine from the state. In addition, race and ethnicity, age, mother's education level, household income, well-child examination status, and doctor's recommendation were significantly associated with HPV vaccine uptake. CONCLUSION A multiprong approach is needed to address religious and systemic barriers to HPV vaccination and expand healthcare professionals' access and enrollment in state vaccine initiatives, such as the Vaccine for Children program.

Abstract
Human papillomavirus (HPV) types 16 and 18 are the major causes of cervical lesions and are associated with 71% of cervical cancer cases globally. However, public health infrastructures to support cervical cancer screening may be unavailable to women in low-resource areas. Therefore, sensitive, convenient, and cost-efficient diagnostic methods are required for the detection of HPV16/18. Here, we designed two novel methods, real-time ERA and ERA-LFD, based on enzymatic recombinase amplification (ERA) for quick point-of-care identification of the HPV E6/E7 genes. The entire detection process could be completed within 25 min at a constant low temperature (35-43°C), and the results of the combined methods could be present as the amplification curves or the bands presented on dipsticks and directly interpreted with the naked eye. The ERA assays evaluated using standard plasmids carrying the E6/E7 genes and clinical samples exhibited excellent specificity, as no cross-reaction with other common HPV types was observed. The detection limits of our ERA assays were 100 and 101 copies/μl for HPV16 and 18 respectively, which were comparable to those of the real-time PCR assay. Assessment of the clinical performance of the ERA assays using 114 cervical tissue samples demonstrated that they are highly consistent with real-time PCR, the gold standard for HPV detection. This study demonstrated that ERA-based assays possess excellent sensitivity, specificity, and repeatability for HPV16 and HPV18 detection with great potential to become robust diagnostic tools in local hospitals and field studies.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the endocervical margin status according to transformation zone (TZ) and high-risk HPV (hr-HPV) subtype in specimens with cone length ≤ 10 mm versus > 10 mm to provide data for informed decision making and patients counseling especially for women wishing to conceive. In this retrospective cohort study, 854 patients who underwent large loop excision of the transformation zone during a nine-year period (2013-2021) for cervical disease were analyzed. The main outcome parameters were excision length, histological result, TZ type, HPV subtype and endocervical margin status. A subgroup analysis was performed according to excision length, with a cut-off value of 10 mm. A two-step surgical procedure was performed in case of an excision length of > 10 mm. The overall rate of positive endocervical margins irrespective of excision length was 17.2%, with 19.3% in specimens with ≤ 10 mm and 15.0% with > 10 mm excision length. Overall, 41.2% of women with a visible TZ and HPV 16/hr infection and 27.0% of women with HPV 18 received an excisional treatment of > 10 mm length without further oncological benefit, respectively. In contrast, assuming that only an excision of ≤ 10 mm length had been performed in women with visible TZ, the rate of clear endocervical margins would have been 63.7% for HPV 16/hr infections and 49.3% for HPV 18 infections. In conclusion, the decision about excision length should be discussed with the patient in terms of oncological safety and the risk of adverse pregnancy events. An excision length > 10 mm increases the number of cases with cervical tissue removed without further oncological benefit, which needs to be taken into account in order to provide an individual therapeutic approach. Furthermore, HPV 18 positivity is related to a higher rate of positive endocervical margins irrespective of TZ.

Abstract
The high prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in China suggests there would be a substantial positive health impact of widespread vaccination against HPV. We adapted a previously described dynamic transmission model of the natural history of HPV infection and related diseases to the Chinese setting to estimate the public health impact in China of 2-valent (with and without cross-protection), 4-valent, and 9-valent HPV vaccination strategies. The model predicted the incidence and mortality associated with HPV-related diseases, including cervical and noncervical cancers, genital warts, and recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP), based on the various vaccination coverage rate (VCR) scenarios, over a 100-year time horizon. The public health impact of the 4 vaccination strategies was estimated in terms of cases and deaths averted compared to a scenario with no vaccination. Under the assumption of various primary and catch-up VCR scenarios, all 4 vaccination strategies reduced the incidence of cervical cancer in females and noncervical cancers in both sexes, and the 4-valent and 9-valent vaccines reduced the incidence of genital warts and RRP in both sexes. The 9-valent vaccination strategy was superior on all outcomes. The number of cervical cancer cases averted over 100 years ranged from ~ 1 million to ~ 5 million while the number of cervical cancer deaths averted was ~ 345,000 to ~ 1.9 million cases, depending on the VCR scenario. The VCR for primary vaccination was the major driver of cases averted.

Abstract
Over the years, cancer has been affecting the lives of many people globally and it has become one of the most studied diseases. Despite the efforts to understand the cell mechanisms behind this complex disease, not every patient seems to respond to targeted therapies or immunotherapies. Drug resistance in cancer is one of the limiting factors contributing to unsuccessful therapies; therefore, understanding how cancer cells acquire this resistance is essential to help cure individuals affected by cancer. Recently, the altered microbiome was observed to be an important hallmark of cancer and therefore it represents a promising topic of cancer research. Our review aims to provide a global perspective of some cancer hallmarks, for instance how genetic and epigenetic modifications may be caused by an altered human microbiome. We also provide information on how an altered human microbiome can lead to cancer development as well as how the microbiome can influence drug resistance and ultimately targeted therapies. This may be useful to develop alternatives for cancer treatment, i.e., future personalized medicine that can help in cases where traditional cancer treatment is unsuccessful.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine health sciences students' levels of knowledge about HPV infection and the vaccine and their health beliefs, to compare them in terms of individual characteristics, and to examine the relationship between their knowledge of the HPV infection/vaccine and their health beliefs. The data of the study were collected from Health Sciences Faculty students through a face-to-face setting (n: 824). The data tools used in the study were the identification form, the health belief model scale for human papillomavirus infection and vaccination, and the human papillomavirus knowledge scale. The results showed that (1) although the students' levels of knowledge about HPV infection and the vaccine were low, (2) they did perceive HPV infection to be a severe problem. According to the multilinear regression analysis performed, the main predictor of the perceived severity (β = 0.29; 95% Cl: 0.04, 0.07), obstacle (β = 0.21; 95% Cl: 0.01, 0.04), and sensitivity (β = 0.22; 95% Cl: 0.02, 0.06) subscales of the HBMS-HPVV was general HPV knowledge. It was also determined that as the students' knowledge about HPV increased, their health belief levels regarding HPV infection and the vaccine increased as well (n: 824). In conclusion, for nurses and other healthcare professionals to be effective in informing individuals, they should have knowledge of HPV infection and the vaccine. In this context, the necessary education and advice about the importance of HPV infection and the vaccine should be provided to students receiving education in the field of healthcare.

Abstract
Numerous intervention studies have attempted to increase cervical screening uptake among immigrant women, nonetheless their screening participation remains low. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to summarise the evidence on interventions to improve cervical screening among immigrant women globally and identify their effectiveness. Databases PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, PsycINFO, ERIC, CINAHL and CENTRAL were systematically searched from inception to October 12, 2021, for intervention studies, including randomised and clinical controlled trials (RCT, CCT) and one and two group pre-post studies. Peer-reviewed studies involving immigrant and refugee women, in community and clinical settings, were eligible. Comparator interventions were usual or minimal care or attention control. Data extraction, quality appraisal and risk of bias were assessed by two authors independently using COVIDENCE software. Narrative synthesis of findings was carried out, with the main outcome measure defined as the cervical screening uptake rate difference pre- and post-intervention followed by random effects meta-analysis of trials and two group pre-post studies, using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software, to calculate pooled rate ratios and adjustment for publication bias, where found. The protocol followed PRISMA guidelines and was registered prospectively with PROSPERO (CRD42020192341). 1,900 studies were identified, of which 42 (21 RCTS, 4 CCTs, and 16 pre-post studies) with 44,224 participants, were included in the systematic review, and 28 with 35,495 participants in the meta-analysis. Overall, the uptake difference rate for interventions ranged from -6.7 to 96%. Meta-analysis demonstrated a pooled rate ratio of 1.15 (95% CI 1.03-1.29), with high heterogeneity. Culturally sensitive, multicomponent interventions, using different modes of information delivery and self-sampling modality were most promising. Interventions led to at least 15% increase in cervical screening participation among immigrant women. Interventions designed to overcome logistical barriers and use multiple channels to communicate culturally appropriate health promotion messages are most effective at achieving cervical screening uptake among immigrant women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of two web-based decision aids designed to help parents of children aged 10-17 years and young adults aged 18-26 years make informed decisions about the HPV vaccine. METHODS The decision aids were developed according to the International Patient Decision Aid Standards (IPDAS) criteria and included information about the vaccine, probabilities of benefits and side effects, personal narratives, and values clarification. The study utilized a quasi-experimental design and included 120 Hebrew-speaking parents and 160 young adults. Participants completed baseline surveys and, two weeks after using the decision aid, completed a follow-up survey. RESULTS Both parents and young adults experienced a reduction in decisional conflict, an increase in self-efficacy, and greater confidence in the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine. The proportion of participating parents deciding to vaccinate their children against HPV increased from 46% to 75%, and the proportion of participating young adults leaning towards receiving the HPV vaccine increased from 64% to 92%. CONCLUSIONS The study highlights the importance of using decision aids to support informed decision making about vaccination and suggests that web-based decision aids may be a useful tool for supporting Israeli parents and young adults to make HPV vaccination decisions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hyperthermia is a well-accepted cancer therapy. Microwaves provide a very precise, targeted means of hyperthermia and are currently used to treat plantar warts caused by cutaneous-infective human papillomaviruses (HPVs). Other HPV genotypes infecting the anogenital mucosa cause genital warts or preneoplastic lesions or cervical cancer. Effective, non-ablative therapies for these morbid HPV-associated lesions are lacking. METHODS The molecular consequences of microwave treatment were investigated in in vitro cultured three-dimensional HPV-positive cervical tumour tissues, and tissues formed from HPV-infected normal immortalised keratinocytes. Microwave energy delivery to tissues was quantified. Quantitative reverse transcriptase PCR was used to quantify mRNA expression. Immunohistochemistry and fluorescence immunostaining was used to assess protein expression. FINDINGS Microwave energy deposition induced sustained, localised cell death at the treatment site. There was a downregulation in levels of HPV oncoproteins E6 and E7 alongside a reduction in cellular growth/proliferation and induction of apoptosis/autophagy. HSP70 expression confirmed hyperthermia, concomitant with induction of translational stress. INTERPRETATION The data suggest that microwave treatment inhibits tumour cell proliferation and allows the natural apoptosis of HPV-infected cells to resume. Precision microwave delivery presents a potential new treatment for treating HPV-positive anogenital precancerous lesions and cancers. Abstract
BACKGROUND Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination is a key initiative to promote the WHO global strategy to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer, and this study aimed to investigate the current status of HPV infection and genotypic characteristics of the population under the impact of age-expansion of nine-valent HPV vaccination policy in China. METHODS The clinical data of 60,685 subjects who were admitted in the Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University and underwent HPV genotyping from January 2017 to October 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS The total number of positive HPV genotyping in the included population was 10,303, with a positivity rate of 17.0 %. The HPV positivity rate in the male and female populations increased slowly year by year, with a higher rate of positivity in men (32.7 %) than in women (16.7 %) (P < 0.001). HPV was predominantly single infection in all populations, with higher prevalence of high-risk HPV than low-risk HPV in females, while low-risk HPV infection was predominant in the male population. The age distribution of female subjects infected with HPV, with HPV52 as the most common type, showed a bimodal pattern. As for HPV infected male subjects, HPV6 was the main type, and there was no bimodal age distribution. The expanded age vaccination of the nine-valent HPV vaccine will result in 42.4 % efficiency of vaccine protection for 49.9 % of age-eligible women. If the nine-valent HPV vaccine were open to males in China, it would reduce HPV infections in men by 56.4 %. CONCLUSIONS The HPV positivity rate in the population remains high and tends to increase, and the age-expansion of the nine-valent HPV vaccine would contribute to reducing the threat of disease caused by HPV infection for age-eligible women. Moreover, attention should be paid to enhancing HPV screening in males and opening up vaccination when appropriate.

Abstract
Persistent HPV16 infection is a major cause of the global cancer burden. The viral life cycle is dependent on the differentiation program of stratified squamous epithelium, but the landscape of keratinocyte subpopulations which support distinct phases of the viral life cycle has yet to be elucidated. Here, single cell RNA sequencing of HPV16 infected compared to uninfected organoids identifies twelve distinct keratinocyte populations, with a subset mapped to reconstruct their respective 3D geography in stratified squamous epithelium. Instead of conventional terminally differentiated cells, an HPV-reprogrammed keratinocyte subpopulation (HIDDEN cells) forms the surface compartment and requires overexpression of the ELF3/ESE-1 transcription factor. HIDDEN cells are detected throughout stages of human carcinogenesis including primary human cervical intraepithelial neoplasias and HPV positive head and neck cancers, and a possible role in promoting viral carcinogenesis is supported by TCGA analyses. Single cell transcriptome information on HPV-infected versus uninfected epithelium will enable broader studies of the role of individual keratinocyte subpopulations in tumor virus infection and cancer evolution.

Abstract
Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is one of the main causes of esophageal carcinoma (ESCA), and its carcinogenic mechanisms in ESCA require further investigation. E6 and E7 are HPV oncogenes, and their genomic integration is a crucial reason for the transformation of host cells into cancer cells. In order to reveal the role of oncogenes E6 and E7 in ESCA cells, the RNA-Seq raw data for HPV18-positive and -negative esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) samples derived from the NCBI BioProject database were analyzed, and the differentially expressed genes were identified. Moreover, differentially expressed genes were enriched significantly in multiple cell death pathways, including apoptosis (cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2A, plakophilin 1 and desmoglein 3), pyroptosis (gasdermin A, gasdermin C, NLR family pyrin domain containing 3, absent in melanoma 2, NLR family pyrin domain containing 1 and Toll like receptor 1) and autophagy (Unc-51 like autophagy activating kinase 1, adrenoceptor beta 2). Consequently, the effects of cisplatin-induced apoptosis and Hank's balanced salt solution-induced autophagy, and α-ketoglutarate-induced pyroptosis in the ESCC-expressing E6 and E7 cells were verified. Therefore, the expression of E6E7 may culminate in the inhibition of multiple cell death modes, which may also be one of the mechanisms of oncogene-induced carcinogenesis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine reduces the burden of cervical and other cancers. In numerous countries, a slow uptakeof this vaccine persists, calling for a better understanding of the structural factors leading to vaccine acceptation. We aimed to assess the attitudes toward HPV vaccination among its intended public to explore its specific characteristics. METHODS A random cross-sectional telephone survey of the French general population provided data from a sample of 2426 respondents of the target public: the parents of young women and the young women aged 15-25 themselves. We applied cluster analysis to identify contrasting attitudinal profiles, and logistic regressions with a model averaging method to investigate and rank the factors associated with these profiles. RESULTS A third of the respondents had never heard of HPV. However, most of the respondents who had heard of it agreed that it is a severe (93.8%) and frequent (65.1%) infection. Overall, 72.3% of them considered the HPV vaccine to be effective, but 54% had concerns about its side effects. We identified four contrasting profiles based on their perceptions of this vaccine: informed supporters, objectors, uninformed supporters, and those who were uncertain. In multivariate analysis, these attitudinal clusters were the strongest predictors of HPV vaccine uptake, followed by attitudes toward vaccination in general. CONCLUSIONS Tailored information campaigns and programs should address the specific and contrasted concerns about HPV vaccination of both young women and of their parents.

Abstract
Human papillomaviruses (HPV) are small DNA viruses associated with cervical cancer, warts, and other epithelial tumors. Structural studies have shown that the HPV capsid consists of 360 copies of the major capsid protein, L1, arranged as 72 pentamers in a T=7 icosahedral lattice, coassembling with substoichiometric amounts of the minor capsid protein, L2. However, the residues involved in the coassembly of L1 and L2 remain undefined due to the lack of structure information. Here, we investigated the solvent accessibility surfaces (SASs) of the central cavity residues of the HPV16 L1 pentamer in the crystal structure because those internal exposed residues might mediate the association with L2. Twenty residues in L1 protein were selected to be analyzed, with four residues in the lumen of the L1 pentamer identified as important: F256, R315, Q317, and T340. Mutations to these four residues reduced the PsV (pseudovirus) infection capacity in 293FT cells, and mutations to R315, Q317, and T340 substantially perturb L2 from coassembling into L1 capsid. Compared with wild-type (WT) PsVs, these mutant PsVs also have a reduced ability to become internalized into host cells. Finally, we identified a stretch of negatively charged residues on L2 (amino acids [aa] 337 to 340 [EEIE]), mutations to which completely abrogate L2 assembly into L1 capsid and subsequently impair the endocytosis and infectivity of HPV16 PsVs. These findings shed light on the elusive coassembly between HPV L1 and L2. IMPORTANCE Over 200 types of HPV have been isolated, with several high-risk types correlated with the occurrence of cervical cancer. The HPV major capsid protein, L1, assembles into a T=7 icosahedral viral shell, and associates with the minor capsid protein, L2, which plays a critical role in the HPV life cycle. Despite the important role of the L2 protein, its structure and coassembly with L1 remain elusive. In this study, we analyzed the amino acid residues at the proposed interface between L1 and L2. Certain mutations at these sites decreased the amount of L2 protein assembled into the capsid, which, in turn, led to a decrease in viral infectivity. Knowledge about these residues and the coassembly of L1 and L2 could help to expand our understanding of HPV biology and aid in the development of countermeasures against a wide range of HPV types by targeting the L2 protein.

Abstract
Cervical cancer (CC) is one of the most common malignancies in women. Cancer cells can use metabolic reprogramming to produce macromolecules and ATP needed to sustain cell growth, division and survival. Recent evidence suggests that fatty acid metabolism and its related lipid metabolic pathways are closely related to the malignant progression of CC. In particular, it involves the synthesis, uptake, activation, oxidation, and transport of fatty acids. Similarly, more and more attention has been paid to the effects of intracellular lipolysis, transcriptional regulatory factors, other lipid metabolic pathways and diet on CC. This study reviews the latest evidence of the link between fatty acid metabolism and CC; it not only reveals its core mechanism but also discusses promising targeted drugs for fatty acid metabolism. This study on the complex relationship between carcinogenic signals and fatty acid metabolism suggests that fatty acid metabolism will become a new therapeutic target in CC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Every year, large number of women are suffering from cervical cancer. Particularly women living with HIV are at high-risk of being suffered with it. Early testing of high-risk human papillomavirus infection can significantly reduce the incidence of cervical cancer. However, lack of early and regular testing has been identified as one of the major problems among risky populations. METHODS Institutional-based cross-sectional study design was conducted among women living with HIV in Shashemene town public health facilities with a total sample size of 406 from February 1-March 30, 2022. Systematic random sampling technique was employed to select the study subjects. A structured questionnaire and checklist was used to collect data. The collected data were cleaned, coded, and entered into Epi-info version 7.2.5 and exported to statistical package for social science version 24 for analysis. Finally, bi-variable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to identify determinants of high-risk human papillomavirus. Odds ratio with 95% confidence interval was used to test association between exposure and outcome under study and p-value < 0.05 was considered significant. RESULTS The prevalence of high-risk HPV infections among study participant was 173(35.2%) with 95% CI (30.5%-40.1%). Prevalence of high-risk HPV type 16, 18 and other high-risk HPV types were 62(15.3%), 23(5.7%) and 58(14.3%), respectively. Having history of sexually transmitted infections [AOR = 3.120; 95% CI (1.977-4.923)], Endline CD4 count < 200 cells/mm3 [AOR = 3.072; 95% CI(1.009-9.350)], Endline HIV viral-load ≥ 50 copies/ml [AOR = 3.446; 95% CI(1.368-8.683)] and more than one-lifetime sexual partner [AOR = 2.112; 95% CI(1.297-3.441)] were significantly associated with high-risk HPV infections. CONCLUSION More than one third of women living with HIV had high-risk HPV. Having history of STI, low CD4 count, high viral load and multiple sexual partners were associated with high risk HPV. HIV positive women with these risk factors should be given special consideration in clinical and public health intervention.
