Abstract
BACKGROUND Hesperetin, a flavonoid predominantly present in citrus fruits, exhibits significant intervention effects on both the initiation and progression of gastric cancer. However, the specific mechanisms underlying this effect remain unclear.
AIM To investigate the interventional role of hesperetin on N-methyl-N’-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG)-induced exosomes in inducing gastric carcinogenesis.
METHODS Bioinformatics technology was used to identify the critical molecular components underlying hesperetin-mediated inhibition of MNNG induced gastric carcinogenesis through exosomal circular RNA. Biological experiments were conducted to validate these findings.
RESULTS Exosomes derived from TGES-1 cells (TGES-1-EX) significantly enhanced the proliferation, migration, invasion, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and stemness of GES-1 cells. The oncogenic potential of TGES-1-EX was significantly diminished following hesperetin pretreatment. TGES-1-EX with overexpressed or knocked down circ0008274 was extracted and GES-1 cells were treated in combination with hesperetin or alone. Our investigation revealed that hesperetin exerted significant inhibitory effects on MNNG-induced gastric carcinogenesis by exosomal circ0008274. Bioinformatics prediction identified microRNA (miR)-526b-5p as a potential miRNA binding to circ0008274. Functional experiments demonstrated that hesperetin may mediate its intervention in MNNG-induced gastric cancer initiation by targeting miR-526b-5p through exosomal circ0008274. TGES-1-EX circ0008274 promoted the proliferation, EMT, and cancer stem cell-like characteristics in GES-1 cells through miR-526b-5p-mediated regulatory mechanisms.
CONCLUSION Hesperetin exerted an interventional effect on the gastric carcinogenesis process, particularly through the modulation of exosomal circ0008274 and its interaction with miR-526b-5p.

Abstract
Currently, marine algae are still an under-exploited natural bioresource of bioactive compounds. Seaweeds represent a sustainable source for obtaining bioactive compounds that can be useful for the fabrication of new active products with biomedical benefits and applications as biomedicinals and nutraceuticals. The objective of this review is to highlight scientific papers that identify biocompounds from marine macroalgae and emphasize their benefits. The method used was data analysis to systematize information to identify biocompounds and their various benefits in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and nutraceuticals. The research results demonstrate the multiple uses of seaweeds. As pharmaceuticals, seaweeds are rich sources of bioactive compounds like polysaccharides, protein compounds, pigments, and polyphenols, which have demonstrated various pharmacological activities such as antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, anticoagulant, and potentially anticarcinogenic effects. Seaweed has gained recognition as a functional food and offers a unique set of compounds that promote body health, including vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. In conclusion, the importance of this review is to expand the possibilities for utilizing natural resources by broadening the areas of research for human health and marine nutraceuticals.

Abstract
Since the development of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), immunotherapy has been widely used as a novel cancer treatment. However, the efficacy of tumor immunotherapy is largely dependent on the tumor microenvironment (TME). The high degree of heterogeneity within TME remains a major obstacle to acquire satisfactory therapeutic. Emerging studies suggest that gut microbiota is becoming an important regulator of TME. Polysaccharides as tumor immunotherapeutic agents or immune adjuvants not only exhibit antitumor activity by targeting gut microbiota, but also expand their role in the tumor immunotherapy by remodeling TME. To date, the mechanism by which polysaccharides targeting TME for tumor prevention via gut microbiota has not been deeply investigated. In this review, recent advances in the regulation of TME by polysaccharides through gut microbiota were systematically outlined, and the challenges and possible solutions in the clinical application of TME-targeted polysaccharides were discussed. Exploring the relationship between polysaccharides and TME from the perspective of gut microbiota may provide new ideas for the application of polysaccharides in tumor immunotherapy. This is a new area with major challenges that deserve further exploration.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the biological activity of crude and purified laminarin and fucoidan samples extracted from Irish brown macroalgae species Laminaria digitata and Fucus vesiculosus. The antioxidant capacity of the samples was evaluated using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and ferric-reducing antioxidant power assays. The anti-inflammatory potential of the samples was analysed using the cyclooxygenases inhibition activity, and the antidiabetic activity was evaluated using a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor screening assay. The cytotoxicity of the samples was measured using the Alamar Blue™ assay with different types of cancer cell lines. The crude laminarin and fucoidan samples exhibited higher antioxidant activity (p < 0.05) than the purified samples and commercial standards. Similarly, the crude extracts showed stronger anti-inflammatory and antidiabetic effects compared to the purified samples. Additionally, the crude laminarin and fucoidan samples showed higher cytotoxic activity. Specifically, as confirmed in the flow cytometry analysis, 3D tumour spheres using different cancer cell lines showed significantly higher resistance to bioactive compounds compared to 2D monolayer cells. The laminarin and fucoidan polysaccharide samples investigated are suitable for potential nutraceutical applications based on the biological activity values observed. Future research is necessary to purify the bioactive compounds investigated and improve their selectivity for targeted therapeutic uses in food and biomedical applications.

Abstract
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is becoming increasingly prominent, posing a serious threat to human health. Its prevalence is rising every year, and often affects young people. In the past few decades, research on marine algae has been recognized as a major field of drug discovery. Seaweed active substances, including algal polysaccharides, algal polyphenols, algal unsaturated fatty acids, and algal dietary fiber, have unique biological activities. This article reviews the effects and mechanisms of the types, structures, and compositions of seaweed on inhibiting glucose and lipid metabolism disorders, with a focus on the inhibitory effect of active substances on blood glucose reduction. The aim is to provide a basis for the development of seaweed active substance hypoglycemic drugs.

Abstract
AbstractAngiogenesis, vital for tumor growth and metastasis, is a promising target in cancer therapy. Natural compounds offer potential as antiangiogenic agents with reduced toxicity. This review provides a comprehensive overview of natural product‐based antiangiogenic therapies, focusing on molecular mechanisms and therapeutic potential. A systematic search identified relevant articles from 2019 to 2023. Various natural compounds, including polyphenols, terpenes, alkaloids, cannabinoids, omega‐3 fatty acids, polysaccharides, proteins, and carotenoids, were investigated for their antiangiogenic properties. Challenges such as dose standardization, routes of administration, and potential side effects remain. Further studies, including in‐depth animal models and human epidemiological studies, must elucidate clinical efficacy and safety. Synergistic effects with current antiangiogenic therapies, such as bevacizumab and tyrosine kinase inhibitors, should be explored. Additionally, the potential hormone‐dependent effects of compounds like genistein highlight the need for safety evaluation. In conclusion, natural products hold promise as adjunctive therapies to conventional antineoplastic drugs in modulating angiogenesis in cancer. However, robust clinical trials are needed to validate preclinical findings and ensure safety and efficacy.

Abstract
Many lactic acid bacteria (LAB), known for their human health benefits, are derived from milk and utilized in biotherapeutic applications or for producing valuable nutraceuticals. However, the specific role of milk-associated LAB in biotherapeutics remains underexplored. To address this, eight milk product samples were randomly selected from the Egyptian market, diluted, and then cultured anaerobically on MRS agar. Subsequently, 16 suspected LAB isolates were recovered and underwent rapid preliminary identification. Among these isolates, the Lactobacillus plantarum strain with accession number (OQ547261.1) was identified due to its strong antioxidant activity depending on the DPPH assay, L. plantarum displayed notable antioxidant activities of 71.8% and 93.8% at concentrations of 125-1000 µg/mL, respectively. While ascorbic acid showed lower concentrations of 7.81, 3.9, and 1.95 µg/mL which showed activities of 45.1%, 34.2%, and 27.2%, respectively. The anti-inflammatory efficacy of L. plantarum was evaluated based on its capability to prevent hemolysis induced by hypotonic conditions. At a concentration of 1000 µg/mL, L. plantarum could reduce hemolysis by 97.7%, nearly matching the 99.5% inhibition rate achieved by the standard drug, indomethacin, at an identical concentration. Moreover, L. plantarum exhibited high hemolytic activity at 100 µg/mL (14.3%), which decreased to 1.4% at 1000 µg/mL. The abundance of phenolic acids and flavonoids was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) in L. plantarum. Real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) demonstrated that L. plantarum increased gene expression of the inflammatory marker TLR2 by 133%, and cellular oxidation markers SOD1 and SOD2 by 65% and 74.2%, respectively, while suppressing CRP expression by 33.3%. These results underscore L. plantarum's exceptional anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities. Furthermore, L. plantarum induces cancer cell death through necrotic nuclear DNA fragmentation. These findings suggest that L. plantarum is not only suitable for nutraceutical production but also holds potential as a probiotic strain. Future research should focus on enhancing the capacity of this strain across various industries and fostering innovation in multiple fields.

Abstract
Ovarian cancer is the second most common and lethal gynecologic malignancy. Among natural product-based therapy, the honeybee products, particularly propolis, serve a valuable source contributing directly to human nutrition and health.In the present study, we determined the chemical composition of different types of propolis originating from Egypt, Germany and France using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The compounds identified belong to different metabolite classes, including flavonoids, cinnamic acid, chalcones, terpenoids, phenolic lipids, stilbenes, phenolic compounds, carbohydrates, vitamins, coumarins, polyprenylated benzophenone, benzoic acids, fatty acid methyl ester, and coumaric acid, and their derivatives. The most active extract is from France then Egypt and Germany.Afterwards, we treated the human ovarian cancer cells, OVCAR4, with different concentrations (1-400 μg/mL) of variable propolis types supplemented or not with vitamin D (0.0015-0.15 μg/mL) in order to evaluate the efficacy and the cytotoxic activities of our local P as compared to other types collected from different geographic regions. Importantly, the combinatorial treatment of OVCAR4 cancer cells with propolis and vitamin D in the same concentration ranges resulted in enhanced cell viability inhibition. Furthermore, such co-supplementation with vitamin D inhibits predominately the proliferative activity of cell population with the French propolis type as manifested by Ki67 expression, while it reduces considerably its expression, particularly with the German type, followed by the Egyptian one.Nowadays, scientists are interested by natural products which have risen to the forefront of drug discovery. Chemically characterized propolis showing cell viability inhibition and antiproliferative potential seems a valuable extract for further consideration as anti-carcinogenic agent.

Abstract
Amauroderma rugosum (AR) is commonly recognized as a medicinal fungus, often used as an alternative to Ganoderma lucidum. There is a scarcity of comprehensive and in-depth research on its bioactive polysaccharides and their associated biological activities. Herein, we isolated the polysaccharide fractions extracted from AR (ARPs) and investigated their primary structure and anti-angiogenic activities, given that various diseases are associated with excessive angiogenesis. Four polysaccharide fractions including ARP-0, ARP-1, ARP-2, and ARP-5 were heteropolysaccharides with different molecular weights, monosaccharide compositions, and micromorphologies, highlighting their varying bioactive profiles. Treatment of human umbilical vein endothelial cells with these polysaccharide fractions showed that only ARP-5 inhibited cell proliferation after vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) stimulation. Similarly, ARP-5 inhibited human umbilical vein endothelial cells migration, invasion, and tube formation upon VEGF (50 ng/mL) treatment. Moreover, compared with the insignificant effects of ARP-0, ARP-1, and ARP-2, ARP-5 impeded angiogenesis in zebrafish embryos. Additionally, ARP-5 downregulated the VEGF/VEGFR2 signaling pathway in a dose-dependent manner, suggesting that ARP-5 exerts its anti-angiogenic activities by blocking the VEGF/VEGFR2-mediated angiogenesis signaling pathway. Taken together, the study findings shed light on the primary structure and bioactivity of ARPs.

Abstract
The ocean is the common home of a large number of marine organisms, including plants, animals, and microorganisms. Researchers can extract thousands of important bioactive components from the oceans and use them extensively to treat and prevent diseases. In contrast, marine polysaccharide macromolecules such as alginate, carrageenan, Laminarin, fucoidan, chitosan, and hyaluronic acid have excellent physicochemical properties, good biocompatibility, and high bioactivity, which ensures their wide applications and strong therapeutic potentials in drug delivery. Drug delivery systems (DDS) based on marine polysaccharides and modified marine polysaccharide molecules have emerged as an innovative technology for controlling drug distribution on temporal, spatial, and dosage scales. They can detect and respond to external stimuli such as pH, temperature, and electric fields. These properties have led to their wide application in the design of novel drug delivery systems such as hydrogels, polymeric micelles, liposomes, microneedles, microspheres, etc. In addition, marine polysaccharide-based DDS not only have smart response properties but also can combine with the unique biological properties of the marine polysaccharide base to exert synergistic therapeutic effects. The biological activities of marine polysaccharides and the design of marine polysaccharide-based DDS are reviewed. Marine polysaccharide-based responsive DDS are expected to provide new strategies and solutions for disease treatment.

Abstract
Fermentation of both microalgae and macroalgae is one of the most efficient methods of obtaining valuable value-added products due to the minimal environmental pollution and the availability of economic benefits, as algae do not require arable land and drift algae and algal bloom biomass are considered waste and must be recycled and their fermentation waste utilized. The compounds found in algae can be effectively used in the fuel, food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries, depending on the type of fermentation used. Products such as methane and hydrogen can be produced by anaerobic digestion and dark fermentation of algae, and lactic acid and its polymers can be produced by lactic acid fermentation of algae. Article aims to provide an overview of the different types potential of micro- and macroalgae fermentation, the advantages and disadvantages of each type considered, and the economic feasibility of algal fermentation for the production of various value-added products.

Abstract
Extensive research has been conducted on the isolation and study of bioactive compounds derived from marine sources. Several natural products have demonstrated potential as inducers of apoptosis and are currently under investigation in clinical trials. These marine-derived compounds selectively interact with extrinsic and intrinsic apoptotic pathways using a variety of molecular mechanisms, resulting in cell shrinkage, chromatin condensation, cytoplasmic blebs, apoptotic bodies, and phagocytosis by adjacent parenchymal cells, neoplastic cells, or macrophages. Numerous marine-derived compounds are currently undergoing rigorous examination for their potential application in cancer therapy. This review examines a total of 21 marine-derived compounds, along with their synthetic derivatives, sourced from marine organisms such as sponges, corals, tunicates, mollusks, ascidians, algae, cyanobacteria, fungi, and actinobacteria. These compounds are currently undergoing preclinical and clinical trials to evaluate their potential as apoptosis inducers for the treatment of different types of cancer. This review further examined the compound's properties and mode of action, preclinical investigations, clinical trial studies on single or combination therapy, and the prospective development of marine-derived anticancer therapies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Porcupine quills, a by-product of porcupine pork, are rich in keratin, which is an excellent source of bioactive peptides. The objective of this study was to investigate the underlying mechanism of anti-proliferation effect of porcupine quills keratin peptides (PQKPs) on MCF-7 cells. RESULTS Results showed that PQKPs induced MCF-7 cells apoptosis by significantly decreasing the secretion level of anti-apoptosis protein Bcl-2 and increasing the secretion levels of pro-apoptosis proteins Bax, cytochrome c, caspase 9, caspase 3 and PARP. PQKPs also arrested the cell cycle at G0/G1 phase via remarkably reducing the protein levels of CDK4 and enhancing the protein levels of p53 and p21. High-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) analysis identified nine peptides with molecular weights less than 1000 Da in PQKPs. Molecular docking results showed that TPGPPT and KGPAC identified from PQKPs could bind with p53 mutant and Bcl-2 protein by conventional hydrogen bonds, carbon hydrogen bonds and van der Waals force. Furthermore, the anti-proliferation impact of synthesized peptides (TPGPPT and KGPAC) was shown in MCF-7 cells. CONCLUSION These findings indicated that PQKPs suppressed the proliferation of MCF-7 breast cancer cells by triggering apoptosis and G0/G1 cell cycle arrest. Moreover, the outcome of this study will bring fresh insights into the production and application of animal byproducts. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Microalgae can be used in different branches of industry, including cosmetology, pharmaceutics and the food industry, information on their ability to accumulate different elements becomes more important. The microalgae biomass grown in the media enriched in elements can increase the accumulation of different ions and give a possibility to control the contents of the various elements. METHODS The aim of the study was to determine the total content of metals in microalgae by tandem mass spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma (ICP-MS/MS) and analysis of the contents of particular metals as a function of the type of microalgae and conditions of cultivation. As the adverse effects of metals on the health of humans and animals have been well-documented and the use of microalgae has increased, the knowledge of metal contents in them is of particular importance in control of their quality. RESULTS Analysis of results permitted distinction of three main groups of microalgae with similar total metal content levels. Moreover, the results revealed the ways of stimulating more significant accumulation of selected elements (for example, Se concentration in control algae 0.279 µg g-1, in the algae cultivated in enriched medium - 219.7 µg g-1). They indicated the possible correlations between the accumulation of different ions. The result obtained shows a significant effect of metal accumulation and has a considerable impact on the differentiation of Arthrospira platensis grown in the medium enriched in different elements (selenium, zinc, chromium) (p ≤ 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Particular impact on the content of selected elements had the conditions of cultivation (type of support) and the microalgae species. Although the one species as the most significant source of selected elements cannot be indicated, it is possible to control the accumulation by the composition of the medium.

Abstract
The incidence and mortality of lung cancer are on the rise worldwide. However, the benefit of clinical treatment in lung cancer is limited. Owning to important sources of drug development, natural products have received constant attention around the world. Main ingredient polysaccharides in natural products have been found to have various activities in pharmacological research. In recent years, more and more scientists are looking for the effects and mechanisms of different natural product polysaccharides on lung cancer. In this review, we focus on the following aspects: First, natural product polysaccharides have been discovered to directly suppress the growth of lung cancer cells, which can be effective in limiting tumor progression. Additionally, polysaccharides have been considered to enhance immune function, which can play a pivotal role in fighting lung cancer. Lastly, polysaccharides can improve the efficacy of drugs in lung cancer treatment by regulating the gut microbiota. Overall, the research of natural product polysaccharides in the treatment of lung cancer is a promising area that has the potential to lead to new clinical treatments. With better understanding, natural product polysaccharides have the potential to become important components of future lung cancer treatments.

Abstract
A crucial aspect in achieving sustainable development of biomass materials is the modification of renewable polysaccharides to create various high-value functional materials. In this paper, bagasse xylan (BX) was used as a raw material to introduce benzyl methacrylate (BMA) through graft copolymerization reaction to generate the intermediate product BX-g-BMA. Subsequently, the target product (CA-BX-g-BMA) was synthesized by catalytic esterification of BX-g-BMA with citric acid (CA) in AmimCl ionic liquid. Meanwhile, the characterization and bioactivity studies of CA-BX-g-BMA were carried out. The graft copolymerization and esterification reactions induced significant changes in the morphological structure of BX and obviously improved its thermal stability and crystallinity. The application of density functional theory (DFT), molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) and molecular docking has revealed that CA-BX-g-BMA possesses multiple active sites, strong biological activity and a strong binding affinity to 6RCF tumor protein with a binding energy of -32.26 kJ/mol. The in vitro antitumor activity of this novel derivative was tested by MTT assay, and the results showed that CA-BX-g-BMA was non-toxic to normal cells and inhibited MDA-MB-231 (breast cancer cells) by up to 32.16 % ± 4.89 %, which is approximately 11 times higher than that of BX. The exploration of these properties is essential to promote future multidisciplinary applications of BX derivatives.

Abstract
Though the biological treatment employing bacterial strains has wide application in effluent treatment plant, it has got several limitations. Researches hence while looking for alternative biological organisms that can be used for secondary treatment came up with the idea of using microalgae. Since then, a large number of microalgal/cyanobacterial strains have been identified that can efficiently remove pollutants from wastewater. Some researchers also found out that the algal biomass not only acts as a carbon sink by taking up carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and giving oxygen but also is a renewable source of several value-added products that can be extracted from it for the commercial use. In this work, the cleaning effect of different species of microalgae/cyanobacteria on wastewater from varied sources along with the value-added products obtained from the algal biomass as observed by researchers during the past few years are reviewed. While a number of review works in the field of phycoremediation technology was reported in literature, a comprehensive study on phycoremediation of wastewater from different industries and household individually is limited. In the present review work, the efficiency of diverse microalgal/cyanobacterial strains in treatment of wide range of industrial effluents along with municipal wastewater having multi-pollutants has been critically reviewed.

Abstract
Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is one of the most chronic and incurable liver diseases triggered mainly by an inappropriate diet and hereditary factors which burden liver metabolic stress, and may result in liver fibrosis or even cancer. While the available drugs show adverse side effects. The non-toxic bioactive molecules derived from natural resources, particularly marine algal polysaccharides (MAPs), present significant potential for treating NASH. In this review, we summarized the protective effects of MAPs on NASH from multiple perspectives, including reducing oxidative stress, regulating lipid metabolism, enhancing immune function, preventing fibrosis, and providing cell protection. Furthermore, the mechanisms of MAPs in treating NASH were comprehensively described. Additionally, we highlight the influences of the special structures of MAPs on their bioactive differences. Through this comprehensive review, we aim to further elucidate the molecular mechanisms of MAPs in NASH and inspire insights for deeper research on the functional food and clinical applications of MAPs.

Abstract
The current consumers' demand for food naturalness is urging the search for new functional foods of natural origin with enhanced health-promoting properties. In this sense, algae constitute an underexplored biological source of nutraceuticals that can be used to fortify food products. Both marine macroalgae (or seaweeds) and microalgae exhibit a myriad of chemical constituents with associated features as a result of their primary and secondary metabolism. Thus, primary metabolites, especially polysaccharides and phycobiliproteins, present interesting properties to improve the rheological and nutritional properties of food matrices, whereas secondary metabolites, such as polyphenols and xanthophylls, may provide interesting bioactivities, including antioxidant or cytotoxic effects. Due to the interest in algae as a source of nutraceuticals by the food and related industries, novel strategies should be undertaken to add value to their derived functional components. As a result, metabolomics is considered a high throughput technology to get insight into the full metabolic profile of biological samples, and it opens a wide perspective in the study of algae metabolism, whose knowledge is still little explored. This review focuses on algae metabolism and its applications in the food industry, paying attention to the promising metabolomic approaches to be developed aiming at the functional characterization of these organisms.

Abstract
Marine algal species comprise of a large portion of polysaccharides which have shown multifunctional properties and health benefits for treating and preventing human diseases. Laminarin, or β-glucan, a storage polysaccharide from brown algae, has been reported to have potential pharmacological properties such as antioxidant, anti-tumor, anti-coagulant, anticancer, immunomodulatory, anti-obesity, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, wound healing, and neuroprotective potential. It has been widely investigated as a functional material in biomedical applications as it is biodegradable, biocompatible, and is low toxic substances. The reported preclinical and clinical studies demonstrate the potential of laminarin as natural alternative agents in biomedical and industrial applications such as nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, functional food, drug development/delivery, and cosmeceuticals. This review summarizes the biological activities of laminarin, including mechanisms of action, impacts on human health, and reported health benefits. Additionally, this review also provides an overview of recent advances and identifies gaps and opportunities for further research in this field. It further emphasizes the molecular characteristics and biological activities of laminarin in both preclinical and clinical settings for the prevention of the diseases and as potential therapeutic interventions.

Abstract
The gut microbiota dysbiosis is a state which the physiological combinations of flora are transformed into pathological combinations caused by factors such as diets, pollution, and drugs. Increasing evidence shows that dysbiosis is closely related to many diseases. With the continuous development and utilization of marine resources, marine polysaccharides have been found to regulate dysbiosis in many studies. In this review, we introduce the types of dysbiosis and the degree of it caused by different factors. We highlight the regulating effects of marine polysaccharides on dysbiosis as a potential prebiotic. The mechanisms of marine polysaccharides to regulate dysbiosis including protection of intestinal barrier, regulatory effect on gut microbiota, alteration for related metabolites, and some other possible mechanisms were summarized. And we aim to provide some references for the high-value utilization of marine polysaccharides and new targets for the treatment of gut microbiota dysbiosis by this review.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Neurodegenerative diseases are chronic, currently incurable, diseases of the elderly, which are characterized by protein misfolding and neuronal damage. Fucoxanthin, derived from marine brown algae, presents a promising candidate for the development of effective therapeutic strategies. HYPOTHESIS AND PURPOSE The relationship between neurodegenerative disease management and fucoxanthin has not yet been clarified. This study focuses on the fundamental mechanisms and targets of fucoxanthin in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease management, showing that communication between the brain and the gut contributes to neurodegenerative diseases and early diagnosis of ophthalmic diseases. This paper also presents, new insights for future therapeutic directions based on the integrated application of artificial intelligence. CONCLUSION Fucoxanthin primarily binds to amyloid fibrils with spreading properties such as Aβ, tau, and α-synuclein to reduce their accumulation levels, alleviate inflammatory factors, and restore mitochondrial membranes to prevent oxidative stress via Nrf2 and Akt signaling pathways, involving reduction of specific secretases. In addition, fucoxanthin may serve as a preventive diagnosis for neurodegenerative diseases through ophthalmic disorders. It can modulate gut microbes and has potential for the alleviation and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

Abstract
Cancer is a leading cause of death in both developing and developed countries. With the increase in the average global life expectancy, it has become a major health problem and burden for most public healthcare systems worldwide. Due to the fewer side effects of natural compounds than of chemotherapeutic drugs, increasing scientific attention is being focused on the development of anti-cancer drugs derived from natural sources. Marine algae are an interesting source of functional compounds with diverse health-promoting activities. Among these compounds, polysaccharides have attracted considerable interest for many years because of their excellent anti-cancer abilities. They improve the efficacy of conventional chemotherapeutic drugs with relatively low toxicity to normal human cells. However, there are few reviews summarising the unique anti-cancer effects and underlying mechanisms of marine algae polysaccharides (MAPs). Thus, the current review focuses on updating the advances in the discovery and evaluation of MAPs with anti-cancer properties and the elucidation of their mechanisms of action, including the signalling pathways involved. This review aims to provide a deeper understanding of the anti-cancer functions of the natural compounds derived from medicinal marine algae and thereby offer a new perspective on cancer prevention and therapy with high effectiveness and safety.

Abstract
Liver disease is a global health burden with high morbidity and mortality worldwide. Liver injuries can develop into severe end-stage diseases, such as cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma, without valid treatment. Therefore, identifying novel drugs may promote liver disease treatment. Phytochemicals, including polysaccharides, flavonoids, alkaloids, and terpenes, are abundant in foods and medicinal plants and have various bioactivities, such as antioxidation, immunoregulation, and tumor killing. Recent studies have shown that many natural polysaccharides play protective roles in liver disease models in vitro and in vivo, such as fatty liver disease, alcoholic liver disease, drug-induced liver injury, and liver cancer. The mechanisms of liver disease are complex. Notably, ferroptosis, a new type of cell death driven by iron and lipid peroxidation, is considered to be the key mechanism in many hepatic pathologies. Therefore, polysaccharides and other types of phytochemicals with activities in ferroptosis regulation provide novel therapeutic strategies for ferroptosis-related liver diseases. This review summarizes our current understanding of the mechanisms of ferroptosis and liver injury and compelling preclinical evidence of natural bioactive polysaccharides and phytochemicals in treating liver disease.

Abstract
Over the decades, a variety of chemically synthesized drugs are being used to cure existing diseases but often these drugs could not be effectively employed for the treatment of serious and newly emerging diseases. Fortunately, in nature there occurs immense treasure of plants and microorganisms which are living jewels with respect to their richness of medically important metabolites of high value. Hence, amongst the existing microorganism(s), the marine world offers a plethora of biological entities that can contribute to alleviate numerous human ailments. Algae are one such photosynthetic microorganism found in both marine as well as fresh water which are rich source of metabolites known for their nutrient content and health benefits. Various algal species like Haematococcus, Diatoms, Griffithsia, Chlorella, Spirulina, Ulva, etc. have been identified and isolated to produce biologically active and pharmaceutically important high value compounds like astaxanthin, fucoxanthin, sulphur polysaccharides mainly galactose, rhamnose, xylose, fucose etc., which show antimicrobial, antifungal, anti-cancer, and antiviral activities. However, the production of either of these bio compounds is favored under conditions of stress. This review gives detailed information on various nutraceutical metabolites extracted from algae. Additionally focus has been made on the role of these bio compounds extracted from algae especially sulphur polysaccharides to treat several diseases with prospective treatment for SARS-CoV-2. Lastly it covers the knowledge gaps and future perspectives in this area of research.

Abstract
Several theories for aging are constantly put forth to explain the underlying mechanisms. Oxidative stress, DNA dysfunction, inflammation, and mitochondrial dysfunction, along with the release of cytochrome c are some of these theories. Diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus, intestinal dysfunction, cardiovascular diseases, hepatic injury, and even cancer develop with age and eventually cause death. Ulva polysaccharides, owing to their special structures and various functions, have emerged as desirable materials for keeping healthy. These polysaccharide structures are found to be closely related to the extraction methods, seaweed strains, and culture conditions. Ulvan is a promising bioactive substance, a potential functional food, which can regulate immune cells to augment inflammation, control the activity of aging-related genes, promote tumor senescence, enhance mitochondrial function, maintain liver balance, and protect the gut microbiome from inflammatory attacks. Given the desirable physiochemical and gelling properties of ulvan, it would serve to improve the quality and shelf-life of food.

Abstract
A novel polysaccharide from Ulva lactuca (ULP) was purified using a Sepharose CL-4B column. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, high-performance liquid chromatography, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy were employed to analyze the structure of ULP. It consisted of rhamnose (Rha), glucuronic acid (GluA), galactose (Gal), and xylose (Xyl) at a molar ratio of 32.75:22.83:1.07:6.46 with the molecular weight of 2.24 × 105 Da. The four major glycosidic residues found in ULP were →2,3)-α-l-Rhap-(1→, →4)-β-d-GlcpA-(1→, →2,6)-β-d-Galp-(1→, and →4)-β-d-Xylp-(1→. The antihyperuricemic activity of ULP was exhibited by detecting related biochemical indexes, urate transporter gene expressions, renal histopathology, and intestinal microbiota shifts. ULP obviously decreased the levels of serum uric acid (UA), blood urea nitrogen, and creatinine, while inhibited serum and hepatic xanthine oxidase activities as well as improved renal injury in hyperuricemic mice. Furthermore, the upregulation of UA excretion genes ABCG2/OAT1 and downregulation of UA resorption genes URAT1 and GLUT9 were detected. In addition, ULP exerted its antihyperuricemic effect through regulating the intestinal microbiome, characterized by elevating the helpful microbial abundance, meanwhile declining the harmful bacterial abundance and restoring the gut microbiome homeostasis. This study demonstrates the antihyperuricemic activity of ULP and its potential effect for the treatment of hyperuricemia-related diseases.
