Abstract
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is prevalent worldwide. It belongs to the β-herpesvirinae subfamily of Herpesviridae and comprises a double-stranded linear DNA genome and capsid, surrounded by an envelope. CMV infection is most prominently found in patients with kidney failure caused by various possible reasons such as urinary tract infection or systemic disease and are undergoing dialysis. The present study was conducted during the period of March 2020 to April 2021. It included 96 patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis (44 of patients were women and 52 men) within the age range of 11-70 years. Five-mL of the venous blood sample was drawn from each patient to conduct the rapid antibody test for the presence of CMV-specific antibodies (both IgG, and IgM). This study showed that the seroprevalence of CMV infection among haemodialysis patients was 75%. The seropositivity for CMV-IgG was 72.9% which was significantly higher than that for CMV-IgM (2.1%) for both sexes. The present study further demonstrated that the prevalence of positive CMV-IgG in males was higher than that in females (38.5% and 34.4%, respectively). In addition, the positivity of CMV-IgM was highest in the age group 61–70 years old (2.1%), while the positivity of CMV-IgG was highest in patients age groups 41–50 years (24%). The present study revealed a high seroprevalence of CMV infection among haemodialysis patients in Basrah City. The elevated seroprevalence could be related to many factors, including the endemicity of the virus, public health, patient immunity, environmental factors, and geographical location. CMV infection increases with age, and the infection rate in men was higher than that in women. The seroprevalence rate of CMV-IgG antibodies was higher than that of CMV-IgM antibodies, indicating a previous infection or reactivation of CMV virus among haemodialysis patients, leading to a high risk of CMV infection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with end-stage renal failure (ESRD) require hemodialysis. According to this point that CMV infection is related to mortality in immunocompromised, and damages in hemodialysis, this study is designed to survey the seroprevalence of CMV and primary infection in hemodialysis (HD) patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS Current cross-sectional studies were found by online reviewing the national and international databases (Web of Science, Pubmed, Scopus, Science Direct, Google scholar), and suitable studies were selected. NOS checklist were used for evaluation of the qualities of all papers. Assessment of heterogeneity among the studies of primary studies was performed using Chi-squared test (Cochran's Q) and I2 index (significance level of 50%). The statistical analysis were performed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) V.2. For assessing publication bias, the Egger test was used by subjective judgment in each study. Also the effect of potential factor on heterogeneity of studies was performed by Meta-regression test and the impact of each study on the overall estimate was assessed by sensitivity analysis. RESULTS This meta- analysis included 23 primary studies investigating seroprevalence of Cytomegalovirus antibodies and primary infection among hemodialysis patients. Finding showed that seroprevalence of CMV IgG and IgM antibodies in hemodialysis patients at 95% confidence interval using random effect model was 88.7% (81.7-93.2%) and 10.9% (5.9-19.2%) respectively. Also the frequency of CMV infection among these studies were reported 41% (18.8-67.6%). CONCLUSION We found that frequency of CMV IgG was higher and it was detected in HD patients. The result of our study showed that most patients were exposure to CMV during dialysis may reactivate by various stimulation, including immunosuppression and inflammation, so screening of patients should be performed to prevent future consequences such as kidney transplant rejection during of dialysis.

Abstract
Although several factors are known to increase the risk of tuberculosis, the occurrence of tuberculosis disease in an infected individual is difficult to predict. We hypothesize that active human cytomegalovirus infection due to recent infection, reinfection or reactivation plays an epidemiologically relevant role in the aetiology of tuberculosis by precipitating the progression from latent tuberculosis infection to disease. The most compelling support for this hypothesis comes from the striking similarity in age-sex distribution between the two infections, important because the age-sex pattern of tuberculosis disease progression has not been convincingly explained. Cytomegalovirus infection and tuberculosis have other overlapping risk factors, including poor socio-economic status, solid organ transplantation and, possibly, sexual contact and whole blood transfusion. Although each of these overlaps could be explained by shared underlying risk factors, none of the epidemiological observations refute the hypothesis. If this interaction would play an epidemiologically important role, important opportunities would arise for novel approaches to controlling tuberculosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIMS To determine the prevalence of glycoprotein B (gB), glycoprotein N (gN), and glycoprotein H (gH) genotypes of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) superimposed on ulcerative colitis (UC) patients in Japan. METHODS Four archived stool samples and 7-archived extracted DNA from stool samples of 11 UC patients with positive multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) results for HCMV were used UL55 gene encoding gB, UL73 gene encoding gN, and UL75 gene encoding gH were identified by PCR. Genotypes of gB and glycoprotein N were determined by sequencing. RESULTS Among 11 samples, 8 samples were amplified through PCR. gB, gN, and gH genotypes were successfully detected in 3 of 8 (37.5%), 4 of 8 (50%), and 8 of 8 (100%), respectively. The distribution of gB and gN genotypes analyzed through phylogenetic analysis were as follows: gB1 (2/3, 66.7%), gB3 (1/3, 33.3%), gN3a (2/4, 50%), and gN3b (2/4, 50%). Other gB genotypes (gB2 and gB4) and gN genotypes (gN1, gN2, and gN4) were not detected in this study. Out of successfully amplified 8 samples of gH genotype, gH1 and gH2 were distributed in 12.5% and 75% samples, respectively. Only 1 sample revealed mixed infection of gH genotype. The distribution of gH1 and gH2 differed significantly (1:6, P<0.05) in UC patients. The distribution of single gH genotype also revealed significant difference in UC patients who were treated with immunosuppressive drug (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS In this study, gB1, gN3, and gH2 gene were determined as the most frequently observed genotypes in UC patients, which suggest that there might be an association between these genotypes of HCMV and UC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is endemic worldwide, with marked differences in the seroprevalence rates between countries. The aim of this study was to analyze the seroprevalence of CMV infections in Croatia. METHODS During a 3-year period (2013-2015) 2438 consecutive serum samples collected from Croatian residents were tested for the presence of CMV IgM and IgG antibodies using enzyme-linked immunoassay. The IgM/IgG positive samples were further tested for IgG avidity. RESULTS The overall seroprevalence rates for CMV IgG and IgM antibodies were 74.4 % and 4.3 %, respectively. The IgG seroprevalence showed significant differences between population groups: children/adolescents 54.6 %, general adult population 77.2 %, hemodialysis patients 91.4 % (p < 0.001). Seropositivity of CMV was strongly age-dependent with prevalences ranging from 53.0 % in children less than 10 years old to 93.8 % in persons above 60 years (p < 0.001). There was no difference in the prevalence rate between women with normal pregnancy and women with poor obstetric history. Gender and place of residence were not associated with CMV seropositivity. Using IgG avidity, current/recent primary CMV infection was confirmed by a low/borderline avidity index (AI) in 46.7 % participants, while in 53.3 % a high AI indicated CMV reactivation or reinfection. Primary infections were detected mainly in children and adolescents (83.2 % and 70.5 %, respectively), while reactivation/reinfection was common in persons older than 40 (77.0-100 %). Reactivation/reinfection was most commonly detected in hemodialysis patients (92.3 %). Logistic regression showed that older age and being on hemodialysis were significant predictors of CMV seropositivity. CONCLUSION Infections with CMV are widespread in the Croatian population. Older age and being on hemodialysis appear to be the main risk factors for CMV infection.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Cytomegalovirus infections have gained high importance for individuals that have received organ transplants given the clinical implications this may have in immunocompromised patients. OBJECTIVE To describe the seroprevalence of cytomegalovirus in organ donors and recipients of kidney transplants nationwide from the six regions established by the Red Nacional de Donación y Trasplante. MATERIALS AND METHODS We conducted a descriptive retrospective study that included 1,813 organ donors and 3,313 recipients of kidney transplants, and we calculated IgM and IgG seroprevalence for cytomegalovirus. IgG prevalence was stratified according to sex, age group, and region, and the results were analyzed in each donor-recipient pair and classified according to the risk. Statistical packages IBM SPSS®, Statistics 22, and Epi Info 7 were utilized. RESULTS IgG prevalence for cytomegalivirus was 86.8% in donors and 91.0% in kidney transplant recipients with statistical significance observed for age, geographical location, and between donors and recipients. We analyzed 1,764 pairs of donors and recipients, of which 91.4% were categorized as having intermediate risk. CONCLUSIONS The results of this study showed high cytomegalovirus infection rates in Colombia. Given the risk, categorization of patients undergoing transplants, measures should be adopted by medical teams to minimize risks.

Abstract
AIM To identify definitions of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection and intestinal disease, in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), to determine the prevalence associated with these definitions. METHODS We conducted a systematic review and interrogated PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane for literature on prevalence and diagnostics of CMV infection and intestinal disease in IBD patients. As medical headings we used "cytomegalovirus" OR "CMV" OR "cytomegalo virus" AND "inflammatory bowel disease" OR "IBD" OR "ulcerative colitis" OR "colitis ulcerosa" OR "Crohn's disease". Both MeSH-terms and free searches were performed. We included all types of English-language (clinical) trials concerning diagnostics and prevalence of CMV in IBD. RESULTS The search strategy identified 924 citations, and 52 articles were eligible for inclusion. We identified 21 different definitions for CMV infection, 8 definitions for CMV intestinal disease and 3 definitions for CMV reactivation. Prevalence numbers depend on used definition, studied population and region. The highest prevalence for CMV infection was found when using positive serum PCR as a definition, whereas for CMV intestinal disease this applies to the use of tissue PCR > 10 copies/mg tissue. Most patients with CMV infection and intestinal disease had steroid refractory disease and came from East Asia. CONCLUSION We detected multiple different definitions used for CMV infection and intestinal disease in IBD patients, which has an effect on prevalence numbers and eventually on outcome in different trials.
