Abstract
BACKGROUND Discoloration of carious lesions after application of silver diamine fluoride lowers patient acceptance and limits its wider use for caries arrest. OBJECTIVE To assess lesion and tooth color changes from 2 novel silver fluoride (AgF) products and its relationship to caries activity (clinical visuo-tactile scores) and bacterial load (using laser fluorescence with the DIAGNOdent). METHODS A split-mouth design was followed, with matched smooth surface carious lesions in the same arch in adults with special needs randomized for 1-min treatments with AgF/potassium iodide (KI) (Riva Star Aqua, SDI) and AgF/stannous fluoride (SnF2) (Caries Status Disclosing Solution; Whiteley). Standardized images taken at baseline, immediately postoperatively, and at 3-mo review were subjected to digital image analysis to calculate delta-E and to track changes in luminosity of carious lesions. RESULTS Twelve participants were recruited in the study. A total of 56 teeth (28 pairs) were included. Significantly greater changes were seen in treated lesions than in the adjacent noncarious natural tooth structure, both immediately after treatment and at the 3-mo review (P < 0.0001). Color change and caries activity were not affected by tooth type, tooth location, plaque status, salivary status, or special needs condition. AgF/SnF2 caused transitory darkening immediately on application, while AgF/KI caused the immediate formation of yellow deposits (silver iodide). Both products caused significant darkening of treated lesions at 3 mo (P = 0.0009; P = 0.0361), with no differences between them (P = 0.506). Responding lesions showed larger and more perceptible color changes immediately after either AgF application (P = 0.002; P = 0.024). CONCLUSIONS Both AgF products were highly effective for caries arrest in this patient population. Despite minor differences in the appearance of treated lesions at the time of application, both products lead to similar darkening of treated sites at 3 mo. KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER STATEMENT This study shows the usefulness of silver fluoride used in conjunction with potassium iodide or stannous fluoride for achieving caries arrest in smooth surface lesions in adults with special needs. Patients need to be informed that long-term staining of the lesion occurs with both, similar to silver diamine fluoride.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Multi-organ metastases represent a substantial life-threatening risk for breast cancer (BC) patients. Nonetheless, the current dearth of assessment tools for patients with multi-organ metastatic BC adversely impacts their evaluation. METHODS We conducted a retrospective analysis of BC patients with multi-organ metastases using data from the SEER database from 2010 to 2019. The patients were randomly allocated into a training cohort and a validation cohort in a 7:3 ratio. Univariate COX regression analysis, the LASSO, and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to identify independent prognostic factors in the training set. Based on these factors, a nomogram was constructed to estimate overall survival (OS) probability for BC patients with multi-organ metastases. The performance of the nomogram was evaluated using C-indexes, ROC curves, calibration curves, decision curve analysis (DCA) curves, and the risk classification system for validation. RESULTS A total of 3626 BC patients with multi-organ metastases were included in the study, with 2538 patients in the training cohort and 1088 patients in the validation cohort. Age, grade, metastasis location, surgery, chemotherapy, and subtype were identified as significant independent prognostic factors for OS in BC patients with multi-organ metastases. A nomogram for predicting 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year OS was constructed. The evaluation metrics, including C-indexes, ROC curves, calibration curves, and DCA curves, demonstrated the excellent predictive performance of the nomogram. Additionally, the risk grouping system effectively stratified BC patients with multi-organ metastases into distinct prognostic categories. CONCLUSION The developed nomogram showed high accuracy in predicting the survival probability of BC patients with multi-organ metastases, providing valuable information for patient counseling and treatment decision making.

Abstract
Intellectual disability (ID) is associated with an increased risk of developing psychiatric disorders, suggesting a common underlying genetic factor. Importantly, altered signaling and/or expression of regulator of G protein signaling 6 (RGS6) is associated with ID and numerous psychiatric disorders. RGS6 is highly conserved and undergoes complex alternative mRNA splicing producing ~36 protein isoforms with high sequence similarity historically necessitating a global approach in functional studies. However, our recent analysis in mice revealed RGS6 is most highly expressed in CNS with RGS6L(+GGL) isoforms predominating. A previously reported genetic variant in intron 17 of RGS6 (c.1369-1G>C), associated with ID, may provide further clues into RGS6L(+GGL) isoform functional delineation. This variant was predicted to alter a highly conserved canonical 3' acceptor site creating an alternative branch point within exon 18 (included in a subset of RGS6L(+GGL) transcripts) and a frameshift forming an early stop codon. We previously identified this alternative splice site and demonstrated its use generates RGS6Lζ(+GGL) isoforms. Here, we show that the c.1369-1G>C variant disrupts the canonical, preferred (>90%) intron 17 splice site and leads to the exclusive use of the alternate exon 18 splice site, inducing disproportionate expression of a subset of isoforms, particularly RGS6Lζ(+GGL). Furthermore, RGS6 global knockout mice do not exhibit ID. Thus, ID caused by the c.1369-1G>C variant likely results from altered RGS6 isoform expression, rather than RGS6 isoform loss. In summary, these studies highlight the importance of proper RGS6 splicing and identify a previously unrecognized role of G protein signaling in ID.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The goal of this study is to develop a risk prediction model for estimating overall survival (OS) in young females diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer. METHODS The clinical information was retrieved from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database between 2010 and 2015. To identify the dependent risk factors, we utilized the Cox proportional hazards regression model in both single and multivariate analyses. We then created a new nomogram to predict the 1-, 3-, and 5-year overall survival probability for these patients based on the identified risk factors. RESULTS Six hundred seventy-six patients who met the eligibility requirements were stochastically partitioned into training (n = 475) and validation (n = 201) groups in a 7:3 ratio. Histology, breast subtype, T classification, brain metastasis, bone metastasis, liver metastasis, and surgery were identified as independent prognostic factors for cancer. To predict the 1-, 3-, and 5-year overall survival (OS) probabilities, all of these independent factors were incorporated into nomograms. Our nomogram demonstrated a favorable discriminatory power, as evidenced by a C-index of 0.737 (95% CI: 0.708-0.766) and 0.717 (95% CI: 0.664-0.770) for the training and validation cohorts, respectively. The calibration curves showed satisfactory consistency in both cohorts. Using this nomogram, we developed a risk stratification model that categorized patients into low-, intermediate-, and high-risk groups. CONCLUSION The prediction model was more precisely to predict the OS of young females with stage IV breast cancer and could enable individualized risk estimation that could be conducive to physicians exploring therapeutic strategies for effectiveness.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The lymph node (LN) status is a crucial prognostic factor for breast cancer (BC) patients. Our study aimed to compare the predictive capabilities of three different LN staging systems in node-positive BC patients and develop nomograms to predict overall survival (OS). METHODS We enrolled 71,213 eligible patients from the SEER database, and 667 cases from our hospital were used for external validation. All patients were divided into two groups based on the number of removed lymph nodes (RLNs). The prognostic abilities of pN stage, positive LN ratio (LNR), and log odds of positive LN (LODDS) were compared using the C-indexes and AUC values. LASSO regression was performed to identify significant factors associated with prognosis and develop corresponding nomogram models. RESULTS Our study found that LNR had superior predictive performance compared to pN and LODDS among patients with RLNs < 10, while pN performed better in patients with RLNs ≥ 10. In the training set, the nomogram models exhibited excellent clinical applicability, as evidenced by the C-indexes, ROC curves, calibration plots, and decision curve analysis curves. Moreover, the nomogram classification accurately differentiated risk subgroups and improved discrimination. These results were externally validated in the validation cohort. CONCLUSION Physicians should select different LN staging systems based on the number of RLNs. Our novel nomograms demonstrated excellent performance in both internal and external validations, which may assist in patient counseling and guide treatment decision-making.

Abstract
Background Phosphatidylinositol binding clathrin assembly protein interacting mitotic regulator (PIMREG) expression is upregulated in a variety of cancers. However, its potential role in breast cancer (BC) remains uncertain. Methods The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases were used to gather relevant information. The expression of PIMREG and its clinical implication in BC were assessed by using Wilcoxon rank-sum test. The prognostic value of PIMREG in BC was evaluated through the Cox regression model and nomogram, and visualized by Kaplan-Meier survival curves. Genes/proteins that interact with PIMREG in BC were also identified through GeneMANIA and MaxLink. Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was then performed. The correlations of the immune cell infiltration and immune checkpoints with the expression of PIMREG in BC were explored via TIMER, TISIDB, and GEPIA. Potential drugs that interact with PIMREG in BC were explored via Q-omic. The siRNA transfection, CCK-8, and transwell migration assay were conducted to explore the function of PIMREG in cell proliferation and migration. Results PIMREG expression was significantly higher in infiltrating ductal carcinoma, estrogen receptor negative BC, and progestin receptor negative BC. High expression of PIMREG was associated with poor overall survival, disease-specific survival, and progression-free interval. A nomogram based on PIMREG was developed with a satisfactory prognostic value. PIMREG also had a high diagnostic ability, with an area under the curve of 0.940. Its correlations with several immunomodulators were also observed. Immune checkpoint CTLA-4 was significantly positively associated with PIMREG. HDAC2 was found as a potentially critical link between PIMREG and BRCA1/2. In addition, PIMREG knockdown could inhibit cell proliferation and migration in BC. Conclusions The high expression of PIMREG is associated with poor prognosis and immune checkpoints in BC. HDAC2 may be a critical link between PIMREG and BRCA1/2, potentially a therapeutic target.

Abstract
Introduction Age at diagnosis has shown significant effect on the prognosis in breast cancer patients. However, whether age is an independent risk factor remains controversial. Furthermore, population-based estimates of age on the prognosis impact in triple-negative breast cancer are still lacking. The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of age and other factors on the prognosis and survival of triple-negative breast cancer patients. Materials and Methods We used the surveillance, epidemiology, and end results program data from 2011 to 2014. A retrospective cohort study was conducted to investigate prognosis factors in triple-negative breast cancer. Patients were divided into two groups according to age at diagnosis: 75 + years (the elderly patients) and < 75 years (reference group). The clinicopathologic characteristics of different age groups were compared using Chi-square tests. Overall survival (OS) and breast cancer-specific survival were analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier method. Prognostic factors were compared using the Cox proportional hazards model. We also analyzed the difference of distant metastasis at initial diagnosis on every group. Results A total of 21,429 triple-negative breast cancer patients were included in our study. The mean breast cancer-specific survival time of triple-negative breast cancer was 70.5 months for the reference group and 62.4 months for the elderly group. Survival analysis showed that the breast cancer-specific survival rate was 78.9% for the reference group and 67.4% for the elderly group. The mean OS time was 69.0 months for the reference group and 52.3 months for the elderly group. The 5-year OS of triple-negative breast cancer patients was 76.4% for the reference group and 51.3% for the elderly group. The prognosis of elderly patients is much poor than reference group. Univariate Cox regression analysis showed that age, race, marital status, histological grade, stage, T, N, M, surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy were risk factors for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) (P < 0.05). Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that age, race, marital status, histological grade, stage, T, N, M, surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy were independent risk factors for TNBC (P < 0.05). Conclusions Age is an independent risk factor for the prognosis of TNBC patients. Elderly triple-negative breast cancer patients displayed obvious lower 5-year survival rate compared to reference group, even though they have better grade stage, minor tumor, less lymph node metastasis. The lower rate of marital status, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgery, and higher rate of metastasis at diagnosis must contribute to their poor outcome.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the impact of environmental temperature exposure on eczema visits. Methods: Eczema clinic data from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2019 were collected from the Huizhou Dermatology Hospital, and data on meteorological factors (average daily temperature and relative humidity) for the same period were derived from 86 meteorological stations of the Guangdong Provincial Climate Center. A distributed lag nonlinear model (DLNM) was used to assess the lagged effect of environmental temperature exposure on eczema, and a natural smooth spline function was used to control the nonlinear confounding of humidity. Results: There were 254 053 eczema outpatient visits at the Huizhou Dermatology Hospital within four years, with an average of 173.89 visits per day. The relationship between daily average temperature and the number of visits was non-linear (U shape). The risk of eczema increased by 2.20% (1.19%-3.21%) for every 1 ℃ decrease for the low temperature, and increased by 2.35% (1.24%-3.5%) for every 1 ℃ increase for the high temperature. The effect of high temperature was greater than that of low temperature. In all cases, 1.60% (0.44%-2.68%) of eczema outpatient visits were attributed to low temperature and the attributable number was 4 065 (1 128-6 798), while 6.33% (1.40%-10.87%) of eczema outpatient visits were due to high temperature and the attributable number was 16 082 (3 557-27 616). Conclusion: Both high temperature and low temperature are associated with increased risk of eczema.

Abstract
Background There is no clear consensus on the benefits of adjuvant chemotherapy for tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) stage T1 (T1N0M0) breast cancer (BC). Our study investigated the effects of adjuvant chemotherapy on T1N0M0 BC patients. Methods Seventy-five thousand one hundred thirty-nine patients diagnosed with T1N0M0 BC were selected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Multivariate Cox analyses were performed to investigate the effects of adjuvant chemotherapy on T1a, T1b, and T1cN0M0 BC, including various tumor grades, and four molecular subtypes. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to eliminate confounding factors and further compare the results between adjuvant chemotherapy and no adjuvant chemotherapy. Additionally, 545 T1N0M0 BC patients treated at the Northern Jiangsu People’s Hospital were included as an independent external validation cohort. Univariate and multivariate Cox analyses were used to confirm the effects of adjuvant chemotherapy in T1a, T1b, and T1cN0M0 BC. Survival curves for the different tumor grades and molecular subtypes were plotted using the Kaplan–Meier method. Results Adjuvant chemotherapy demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in overall survival (OS) in T1b and T1c BC, but not in T1a BC. Within T1b BC, adjuvant chemotherapy was found to have effects on grade III, and hormone receptor + (HoR +)/human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 + (HER2 +), HoR-/HER2 + , and HoR-/HER2- molecular subtypes, respectively. Adjuvant chemotherapy was beneficial to OS for grade II/III and T1c BC. Identical results were obtained after PSM. We also obtained similar results with external validation cohort, except that adjuvant chemotherapy made a difference in grade II and T1b BC of the external validation dataset. Conclusions Partial T1N0M0 BC patients with grade III T1bN0M0, patients with tumor grade II and III T1cN0M0, and excluding those with HoR + /HER2- subtype tumors, could obtain OS benefits from adjuvant chemotherapy. Abstract
Background Young breast cancer (YBC) patients are more prone to lymph node metastasis than other age groups. Our study aimed to investigate the predictive value of lymph node ratio (LNR) in YBC patients and create a nomogram to predict overall survival (OS), thus helping clinical diagnosis and treatment. Methods Patients diagnosed with YBC between January 2010 and December 2015 from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database were enrolled and randomly divided into a training set and an internal validation set with a ratio of 7:3. An independent cohort from our hospital was used for external validation. Univariate and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression were used to identify the significant factors associated with prognosis, which were used to create a nomogram for predicting 3- and 5-year OS. Results We selected seven survival predictors (tumor grade, T-stage, N-stage, LNR, ER status, PR status, HER2 status) for nomogram construction. The C-indexes in the training set, the internal validation set, and the external validation set were 0.775, 0.778 and 0.817, respectively. The nomogram model was well calibrated, and the time-dependent ROC curves verified the superiority of our model for clinical usefulness. In addition, the nomogram classification could more precisely differentiate risk subgroups and improve the discrimination of YBC prognosis. Conclusions LNR is a strong predictor of OS in YBC patients. The novel nomogram based on LNR is a reliable tool to predict survival, which may assist clinicians in identifying high-risk patients and devising individual treatments.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate high-dose intravenous glucocorticoid treatment on tear inflammatory cytokines and ocular surface parameters in patients with active TED. Correlations between tear inflammatory cytokines and clinical parameters were also investigated. METHODS This prospective pilot study included 15 moderate-to-severe and active TED patients. Control group consist of 15 sex and age-matched healthy subjects. All TED patients were treated with high-dose intravenous methylprednisolone with cumulative dose of 4.5 g during the therapy subdivided into 12 weekly infusions. Tear concentrations of interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-17A, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) were measured by multiplex bead analysis in TED patients at baseline and 12 weeks after treatment. Ocular surface disease index (OSDI), tear break-up time (TBUT), corneal fluorescent staining, and Schirmer's test were obtained from TED and controls. RESULTS All baseline cytokine levels except for IL-17A were significantly elevated in active TED patients compared with controls. Concentrations of IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α, and VEGF were significantly decreased at 12 weeks compared with baseline. OSDI and TBUT showed significant improvement at 6 and 12 weeks. There were significant positive correlations between IL-6, IL-8, and CAS, and negative correlation was found between IL-6 level and TED duration before methylprednisolone treatment. The reduction of IL-6, IL-8, and VEGF were positive correlated with the reduction in CAS at 12 weeks. CONCLUSIONS High-dose glucocorticoids treatment improved ocular surface symptom, increased the tear film stability, and decreased tear inflammatory cytokines in active TED. The reduction of the inflammatory cytokines is consistent with the improvement of clinical parameters.

Abstract
Osteoporosis is defined as an aging-related skeletal disorder involving deterioration of bone mass and bone structure, and consequently, increased risk of fractures. Emerging evidence indicates the dysregulation of microRNAs (miRNAs) in the progression of osteoporosis. However, whether such associated miRNAs control osteoblast differentiation or constitute therapeutic targets remains elusive. In the present study, we found elevated circulating miR-374b-5p level associated with postmenopausal osteoporosis. miR-374b-5p served as a critical suppressor of osteoblast differentiation. We further identified that miR-374b-5p directly targeted Wnt family member 3 (Wnt3) and Runt-related transcription factor 2 (Runx2) through its 3'-untranslated regions (3'UTRs). Moreover, the antagonist of miR-374b-5p could promote bone formation in ovariectomy (OVX)-induced mice. Together, our results revealed that miR-374b-5p directly targeted Wnt3 and Runx2, negatively regulating osteoblast differentiation and bone formation. Collectively, circulating miR-374b-5p in the serum might serve as a potential diagnostic and therapeutic strategy for osteoporosis.

Abstract
The aberrant expression of microRNAs (miRNAs) is involved in the initiation and progression of human cancers. In our study, we found that miR-539 was down-regulated in breast cancer tissues and cell lines. Decreased expression of miR-539 was significantly associated with lymph node metastasis in patients with breast cancer. Overexpression of miR-539 inhibited the proliferation and promoted apoptosis of breast cancer cells. Moreover, highly expressed miR-539 significantly suppressed the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and sensitized cells to cisplatin treatment. Mechanistically, miR-539 was found to target the specificity protein 1 (SP1) and down-regulated the expression of SP1 in breast cancer cells. Knockdown of miR-539 consistently increased the expression of SP1. The expression of miR-539 in breast cancer tissues was negatively correlated with the expression of SP1. Restoration of SP1 significantly attenuated the inhibitory effect of miR-539 on the proliferation of breast cancer cells. Taken together, our results indicate that miR-539 has a tumor suppressive role in breast cancer via targeting SP1, suggesting miR-539 as a promising target for the diagnosis of breast cancer.

In total, 354 female yaks for which measurements of body weight (BW), withers height (WH), body length (BL) and chest girth (CG) at weaning were available underwent genotyping with the Illumina BovineHD BeadChip (770K). After quality control, we retained 98 688 SNPs and 354 animals for GWAS analysis. We identified seven, 18, seven and nine SNPs (corresponding to seven, 17, seven and eight candidate genes) associated with BW, WH, BL and CG at weaning respectively. Interestingly, most of these candidate genes were reported to be involved in growth-related processes such as muscle formation, lipid deposition, feed efficiency, carcass composition and development of the central and peripheral nervous system. Our results offer novel insight into the molecular architecture underpinning yak growth traits. Further functional analyses are thus warranted to explore the molecular mechanisms whereby these genes affect these traits of interest.

Abstract
Objective There is limited information from population‐based cancer registries regarding prognostic features of bilateral primary breast cancer (BPBC). Methods Female patients diagnosed with BPBC between 2004 and 2014 were randomly divided into training (n = 7740) and validation (n = 2579) cohorts from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Database. We proposed five various models. Multivariate Cox hazard regression and competing risk analysis were to explore prognosis factors in training cohort. Competing risk nomograms were constructed to combine significant prognostic factors to predict the 3‐year and the 5‐year survival of patients with BPBC. At last, in the validation cohort, the new score performance was evaluated with respect to the area under curve, concordance index, net reclassification index and calibration curve. Results We found out that age, interval time, lymph nodes invasion, tumor size, tumor grade and estrogen receptor status were independent prognostic factors in both multivariate Cox hazard regression analysis and competing risk analysis. Concordance index in the model of the worse characteristics was 0.816 (95% CI: 0.791‐0.840), of the bilateral tumors was 0.819 (95% CI: 0.793‐0.844), of the worse tumor was 0.807 (0.782‐0.832), of the first tumor was 0.744 (0.728‐0.763) and of the second tumor was 0.778 (0.762‐0.794). Net reclassification index of the 3‐year and the 5‐year between them was 2.7% and −1.0%. The calibration curves showed high concordance between the nomogram prediction and actual observation. Conclusion The prognosis of BPBC depended on bilateral tumors. The competing risk nomogram of the model of the worse characteristics may help clinicians predict survival simply and effectively. Metachronous bilateral breast cancer presented poorer survival than synchronous bilateral breast cancer.

Abstract
Aim of Study Breast cancer invasion and metastasis is the main reason for the failure, and laminin is involved in it. This study intends to explore the expression of laminin in breast cancer and normal breast tissue and its clinical significance. Materials and Methods We use immunohistochemical assay for the detection of breast infiltrating ductal cancer tissues and normal breast tissues of laminin expression and discuss their role in breast cancer invasion and metastasis. Results Our results showed that laminin was positive expressed in normal breast tissue, and strongly positive expressed but lost its' continuity in the breast cancer tissue. Conclusion This results revealed laminin is involved in breast cancer invasion and metastasis, and we can use this to determine whether the integrity of a basement membrane for differential diagnosis of benign and malignant breast tumors.

Abstract
Global multiconstituent concentration and emission fields obtained from the assimilation of the satellite retrievals of ozone, CO, NO2, HNO3, and SO2 from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI), Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment 2, Measurements of Pollution in the Troposphere, Microwave Limb Sounder, and Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS)/OMI are used to understand the processes controlling air pollution during the Korea-United States Air Quality (KORUS-AQ) campaign. Estimated emissions in South Korea were 0.42 Tg N for NO x and 1.1 Tg CO for CO, which were 40% and 83% higher, respectively, than the a priori bottom-up inventories, and increased mean ozone concentration by up to 7.5 ± 1.6 ppbv. The observed boundary layer ozone exceeded 90 ppbv over Seoul under stagnant phases, whereas it was approximately 60 ppbv during dynamical conditions given equivalent emissions. Chemical reanalysis showed that mean ozone concentration was persistently higher over Seoul (75.10 ± 7.6 ppbv) than the broader KORUS-AQ domain (70.5 ± 9.2 ppbv) at 700 hPa. Large bias reductions (>75%) in the free tropospheric OH show that multiple-species assimilation is critical for balanced tropospheric chemistry analysis and emissions. The assimilation performance was dependent on the particular phase. While the evaluation of data assimilation fields shows an improved agreement with aircraft measurements in ozone (to less than 5 ppbv biases), CO, NO2, SO2, PAN, and OH profiles, lower tropospheric ozone analysis error was largest at stagnant conditions, whereas the model errors were mostly removed by data assimilation under dynamic weather conditions. Assimilation of new AIRS/OMI ozone profiles allowed for additional error reductions, especially under dynamic weather conditions. Our results show the important balance of dynamics and emissions both on pollution and the chemical assimilation system performance.

Abstract
Optical excitation of stripe-ordered La_{2-x}Ba_{x}CuO_{4} has been shown to transiently enhance superconducting tunneling between the CuO_{2} planes. This effect was revealed by a blueshift, or by the appearance of a Josephson plasma resonance in the terahertz-frequency optical properties. Here, we show that this photoinduced state can be strengthened by the application of high external magnetic fields oriented along the c axis. For a 7 T field, we observe up to a tenfold enhancement in the transient interlayer phase correlation length, accompanied by a twofold increase in the relaxation time of the photoinduced state. These observations are highly surprising, since static magnetic fields suppress interlayer Josephson tunneling and stabilize stripe order at equilibrium. We interpret our data as an indication that optically enhanced interlayer coupling in La_{2-x}Ba_{x}CuO_{4} does not originate from a simple optical melting of stripes, as previously hypothesized. Rather, we speculate that the photoinduced state may emerge from activated tunneling between optically excited stripes in adjacent planes.

Abstract
Purpose To better clarify the efficacy of neoadjuvant bevacizumab plus chemotherapy (BEV + CT) vs chemotherapy (CT) alone in the treatment of HER2-negative nonmetastatic breast cancer. Methods PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases were searched for relevant articles published from January 1, 2000 to July 31, 2018. Review Manager software version 5.3 was used to perform this meta-analysis. Results Six randomized controlled trials matched the selection criteria, yielding a total of 4,354 patients with early outcomes and 3,777 patients with late outcomes. Pooled pathological complete response (pCR) and 5-year disease-free survival (DFS) rates were higher for the neoadjuvant BEV + CT group (OR =1.37 [1.19, 1.58]; P<0.001 and HR =0.84 [0.72, 0.98]; P=0.020, respectively), but 5-year overall survival (OS) rate showed no significant difference (HR =0.79 [0.55, 1.11]; P=0.180). Subgroup analysis showed that the pCR rate was significantly higher in both patients with hormone receptor (HR)-positive breast cancer (OR =1.30 [1.01, 1.66]; P=0.040) and those with HR-negative breast cancer (OR =1.52 [1.25, 1.83]; P<0.001) in BEV + CT group. Conclusion Compared with CT alone, neoadjuvant BEV + CT significantly improved the 5-year DFS rate of HER2-negative breast cancer patients, but showed no benefit in terms of 5-year OS rate.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIMS Glycolysis, a multi-step enzymatic reaction, is considered to be the root of cancer development and progression. The aim of this study is to figure out which glycolysis enzyme participates in the progression of breast cancer and its possible mechanisms. MATERIALS We firstly screened out PGK1 by performing an RT-PCR array of glycolysis-related genes in three paired breast cancer samples, and further investigated PGK1 using TCGA and our own database. The effect and mechanism of PGK1 on cell invasion was further explored both in vitro and using patient samples. RESULTS PGK1 was most upregulated in T3N0 with distant metastases compared to those with no metastases. In the TCGA database, high PGK1 expression predicted poor overall survival (OS) in breast cancer and some other cancers (P< 0.001). In the validation cohort, high PGK1 expression was significantly correlated with larger tumor size (P=0.011) and advanced TNM stage (P=0.033), and PGK1 expression was an independent prognostic factor for OS and disease free survival (DFS) in both univariate and multivariate regression analyses (P< 0.05). Functional studies indicated that knockdown of PGK1 expression significantly inhibited invasion and reversed the epithelial-mesenchymal transition process in breast cancer cells (P< 0.05). Mechanistically, PGK1 increased HRE luciferase activity in a dose-dependent manner, while silencing PGK1 expression decreased HRE activity. CONCLUSION High PGK1 expression was associated with poor prognosis in breast cancer, because PGK1 and HIF-1α formed a positive feed-forward loop and thus stimulated breast cancer progression and metastases. Based on these results, PGK1 may serve as a promising biomarker and target therapy for breast cancer.

Abstract
Background High-mobility group box 2 (HMGB2) is implicated in tumorigenesis in various cancers. However, the clinical significance of HMGB2 signaling in human breast cancer progression remains unknown. Methods We investigated HMGB2 expression in 185 cases of primary breast cancer and matched normal breast tissue specimens, and explored the underlying mechanisms of altered HMGB2 expression as well as the impact of this altered expression on breast cancer growth and on aerobic glycolysis using in vitro and animal models of breast cancer. Results HMGB2 was more highly expressed in tumor-cell nuclei of breast cancer cells than in the adjacent normal breast tissues (P < 0.05). Higher HMGB2 expression correlated with larger tumor size (P = 0.003) and advanced tumor stage (P = 0.033). A Cox proportional hazards model revealed that HMGB2 expression was an independent prognostic factor for breast cancer after radical resection (P < 0.05). Experimentally, knockdown of HMGB2 expression by stable transfected shRNA significantly decreased the growth and glycolysis of breast cancer cells both in vitro and in mouse models. Mechanically, promotion of breast cancer progression by HMGB2 directly and significantly correlated with activation of LDHB expression and inactivation of FBP1 expression. Conclusions These results disclose a novel role for HMGB2 in reprogramming the metabolic process in breast cancer cells by targeting LDHB and FBP1 and provide potential prognostic predictors for breast cancer patients.

Abstract
Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) 9 is a member of the FGF family, which promotes carcinogenesis in some solid tumours. However, its biological and prognostic significance in gastric cancer (GC) is unclear. We examined FGF9 expression in 180 GC and corresponding non-tumorous gastric tissue samples by immunohistochemistry and evaluated its role in predicting tumour prognosis. Knockdown of FGF9 by siRNA inhibited cell growth and induced apoptosis in GC cell lines. Fifty of the 180 GC specimens (27.8%) had high FGF9 protein expression, whereas decreased or unchanged expression was observed in 130 cases (72.2%). High FGF9 expression was a significant predictor of poor survival (28.1 vs. 55.8 months, P < 0.001). After stratification according to AJCC stage, FGF9 remained a significant predictor of shorter survival in stage II (30.6 vs. 64.9 months, P < 0.001) and stage III GC (29.7 vs. 58.9 months, P < 0.001). Multivariate and univariate analysis showed that higher expression of FGF9 can be used as a predictor for poor prognosis (HR, 2.95; 95% CI, 1.97–4.41; P < 0.001; and HR, 2.94; 95% CI, 2.01–4.31; P < 0.001, respectively). FGF9 may provide the anti-apoptotic function and be useful as a novel independent marker for evaluating GC prognosis

Abstract
Micro RNA (miR)-486-5p is often aberrantly expressed in human cancers. The aim of this study was to identify the prognostic value of miR-486-5p expression in digestive system cancers. Tissue microarrays were constructed with 680 samples including 185 esophageal squamous cell carcinomas (ESCCs), 90 gastric adenocarcinomas (GCs), and 60 digestive system cancer tissues from 10 ESCC, 10 GC, 10 colon, 10 rectum, 10 liver, 10 pancreatic cancer, and corresponding normal tissues. Twenty normal digestive system mucosa tissues from healthy volunteers were included as normal controls. In GC, miR-486-5p expression was decreased in 62.8% of cases (59/94), increased in 33.0% (31/94), and unchanged in 4.2% (4/94); in ESCC its expression was decreased in 66.2% (129/195), increased in 32.3% (63/195), and unchanged in 1.5% (3/195). Expression of miR-486-5p was decreased in 12, and increased in 8, of 20 cases of colon or rectum cancer; decreased in 6, and increased in 4, of 10 cases of liver cancer; and decreased in 8, and increased in 2, of 10 cases of pancreatic cancer. Multivariate and univariate regression analysis demonstrated that low/unchanged miR-486-5p predicted poor prognosis in ESCC (hazard ratio [HR], 4.32; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.62–7.14; P < 0.001; HR, 3.88; 95% CI, 2.43–6.22; P < 0.001, respectively) and GC (HR, 2.46; 95% CI, 1.35–4.50; P = 0.003; HR, 2.55; 95% CI, 1.39–4.69; P = 0.002, respectively). MiR-486-5p might therefore be an independent tumor marker for evaluating prognosis in patients with ESCC or GC.

Abstract
Previous studies have demonstrated that fibulin-2 may facilitate cancer cell invasion and metastasis during tumor progression. In the present study, immunohistochemical analyses of fibulin-2 and collagen IV expression in 35 patients with breast cancer were performed to define their localization and association with breast cancer tissue. Fibulin-2 was revealed to be expressed in all tissues surrounding the breast ducts and blood vessels in normal breast tissue, while its expression was not integrated in invasive ductal carcinoma or terminal duct-lobular unit. In malignant breast tissue, collagen IV was integrated around the duct, while fibulin-2 was expressed around collagen IV and was incomplete. These results demonstrated that fibulin-2 was associated with breast cancer invasion. Fibulin-2 expression decreased prior to basement membrane (BM) degradation, indicating that fibulin-2 forms an additional barrier around the BM. Therefore, it was proposed that fibulin-2 composes the general BM, which differs from the traditional BM. These results provide insight into extracellular matrix components and the involvement of fibulin-2 in tumor invasion and metastasis. Fibulin-2 was involved in the process of breast cancer development. It performed an important role in prevention of cancer cell penetration and metastasis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND PLA2G16 functions as a phosphatase in metabolism and its abnormal expression is closely associated with tumor progression. The aim of this study is to investigate the prognosis value of PLA2G16 in breast cancer. METHODS A tissue microarray including 200 invasive ductal carcinoma specimens was constructed. Immunohistochemistry was performed to determine the PLA2G16 expression status. The Kaplan-Meier analysis and log-rank test were used to evaluate the prognostic value of PLA2G16. The Multivariate Cox regression analysis was performed to identify whether PLA2G16 was an independent prognostic factor. RESULTS In our retrospective study, Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that elevated PLA2G16 expression was correlated with improved DFS (P=0.032) in the whole breast cancer patients. In further subgroup analysis, PLA2G16 overexpression was found to be associated with prolonged DFS (P=0.018) in HER2-positive breast cancer patients. More importantly, Multivariate analysis suggested that PLA2G16 was a significant independent prognostic factor in HER2-enriched patients [hazard ratio (HR) =0.151; 95% confidence interval (CI) =0.034-0.672; P=0.013]. CONCLUSIONS Our study evaluated the prognostic significance of PLA2G16 in patients with HER2-positive breast cancer and confirmed the relevance of this metabolism-related gene in patient outcome.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori, HP) infection in subjects receiving routine physical examination and its associations with age, sex, body mass index (BMI) and lipid profiles. MATERIALS AND METHODS Clinical information of 22,103 individuals who took routine physical examinations, including that on age, gender, height, weight, triglyceride, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and data of HP infection were collected and analyzed. RESULTS H. pylori infection rate in 22,103 subjects taking routine physical examination was 44.5 %. More men tended to be infected with H. pylori than women (45.9 % vs 42.8 %; p < 0.01). The highest positive rate group was in the age group of 30-39 years (46.8 %) and the lowest rate was in the age group younger than 30 years (40.5 %). The obese had higher infection rate than the non-obese (p < 0.01). Mann-Whitney U test was used to explore the relationships between lipid profiles and H. pylori infection. There were significant associations among HDL, triglyceride and HP infection (p < 0.01). However, significant differences were not confirmed between cholesterol, LDL and H. pylori infection. CONCLUSION H. pylori infection was common among subjects receiving physical examination in Shanghai and it was most significantly associated with HDL and triglyceride, indicating that H. pylori might be a new cardiovascular risk factor (Tab. 3, Ref. 23).

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the expression pattern of miR-16 and miR-451 and evaluate their prognostic value in 180 GC patients undergoing surgery. METHODS In our previous study, a panel of five circulating miRNAs (miR-16, miR-25, miR-92a, miR-451 and miR-486-5p) can be used as a potential biomarker for detecting of early-stage gastric carcinoma (GC). Tissue microarrays were constructed from 180 patients with GC after surgery. MiR-16 and miR-451 expression was detected by miRNA-locked nucleic acid in situ hybridization, and their relationship with clinicopathological parameters and overall survival was analyzed. RESULTS MiR-16 expression was decreased in 30.6 % (55/180) of GC, increased in 54.4 % (98/180) and unchanged in 15.0 % (27/180), compared with paracancerous normal tissue (P < 0.001). MiR-451 expression was decreased in 17.8 % (32/180), increased in 62.8 % (113/180) and unchanged in 19.4 % (35/180) of GC, compared with paracancerous normal tissue (P < 0.001).Univariate analysis indicated that low miR-16 and miR-451 expression, tumor stage, tumor status, node status and tumor size were significant negative prognostic predictors for overall survival in patients with GC (P < 0.001, P < 0.001, P = 0.002, P < 0.001 and P = 0.001, respectively). Multivariate regression analysis demonstrated that stage [hazard ratio (HR) 1.80; 95 % confidence interval (CI) 1.0-3.26; P = 0.05], low expression of miR-16 (HR 2.26; 95 % CI 1.51-3.40; P < 0.001) and miR-451 (HR 2.01; 95 % CI 1.36-2.96; P < 0.001) predicted shorter OS, while tumor status (HR 1.59; 95 % CI 0.73-3.48 P = 0.242), lymph node metastasis (HR 1.41; 95 % CI 0.71-2.82; P = 0.326) and tumor size (HR 1.53; 95 % CI 0.92-2.55; P = 0.099) were not. Moreover, patients with both miR-16 and miR-451 high expression have better OS than those with two miRNAs unchanged or low expression in GC tissues. Patients with both miR-16 and miR-451 high have better OS than patients with single miR-451 high expression. CONCLUSIONS High expression of miR-16 and miR-451 was associated with longer OS in GC patients. Especially patients with miR-16 and miR-451 double high expression will predict better OS. MiR-16 and miR-451 may be used as novel makers to evaluate prognosis and provide a new treatment target in GC.

Abstract
To review the available subjective and objective evaluation methods used in the assessment of the spasmodic dysphonia.A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed,web of science,EBSCO and Ovid database,date limited from 2000 to 2015,language limited English,using the following key words: "spasmodic dysphonia" OR "spastic dysphonia" AND "evaluat*" OR " diagnosis" OR "treatment" OR "assess*".Screening the titles and abstracts,and reading the full text,studies met the inclusion criteria were enrolled.The references of eligible publications were manually searched to identify additional studies.A total of 967 literatures were retrieved.Finally,twenty-three papers were enrolled in the study according to the inclusion criteria.Evaluation methods were mainly divided into subjective and objective,including perception,subjective self-assessment;and aerodynamic,acoustic analysis,respectively.The assessment of spasmodic dysphonia should be multidimensional.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although breast abscess is a serious uncommon complication of mastitis with high morbidity rate, there is a lack of high-quality randomized trial to demonstrate the best treatments. We reported a novel way of applying negative suction drain through a mini periareolar incision. MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospectively analyzed and compared the clinical characteristics of 62 patients with lactational breast abscess in our department from August 2012 to April 2015. Thirty-two patients went through traditional incision and drainage (Group A) and 30 patients were placed on negative suction drain through mini periareolar incision (Group B). RESULTS There is no significant difference between the two groups in terms of age, white blood cell (WBC) count, size of the abscess cavity, and positive rate of Staphylococcus aureus (SA) or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Patients in Group B had a shorter hospitalized stay (p = 0.003) and had a higher rate of continuation of breastfeeding (p < 0.005). CONCLUSION Applying drain with negative suction pressure through a mini periareolar incision is an effective modality for treating lactational breast abscess and maintaining breastfeeding.

Abstract
CCAAT/enhancer binding protein beta (C/EBPβ), a transcription factor expressed in muscle satellite cells (SCs), inhibits the myogenic program and is downregulated early in differentiation. In a conditional null model in which C/EBPβ expression is knocked down in paired box protein 7+ (Pax7+) SCs, cardiotoxin (CTX) injury is poorly repaired, although muscle regeneration is efficient in control littermates. While myoblasts lacking C/EBPβ can differentiate efficiently in culture, after CTX injury poor regeneration was attributed to a smaller than normal Pax7+ population, which was not due to a failure of SCs to proliferate. Rather, the percentage of apoptotic SCs was increased in muscle lacking C/EBPβ. Given that an injury induced by BaCl2 is repaired with greater efficiency than controls in the absence of C/EBPβ, we investigated the inflammatory response following BaCl2 and CTX injury and found that the levels of interleukin-1β (IL-1β), a proinflammatory cytokine, were robustly elevated following CTX injury and could induce C/EBPβ expression in myoblasts. High levels of C/EBPβ expression in myoblasts correlated with resistance to apoptotic stimuli, while its loss increased sensitivity to thapsigargin-induced cell death. Using cancer cachexia as a model for chronic inflammation, we found that C/EBPβ expression was increased in SCs and myoblasts of tumor-bearing cachectic animals. Further, in cachectic conditional knockout animals lacking C/EBPβ in Pax7+ cells, the SC compartment was reduced because of increased apoptosis, and regeneration was impaired. Our findings indicate that the stimulation of C/EBPβ expression by IL-1β following muscle injury and in cancer cachexia acts to promote SC survival, and is therefore a protective mechanism for SCs and myoblasts in the face of inflammation.

Abstract
MicroRNA (miR)-92 expression is often aberrant in human cancers. However, its expression in gastric carcinoma and its relation to clinicopathological features and prognosis are unclear.Tissue microarrays were constructed from 180 patients with gastric cancer (GC), who were undergoing radical resection. MiR-92a expression was detected using miRNA-locked nucleic acid in situ hybridization, and its correlation with clinicopathological features and overall survival was analyzed. MiR-92a expression was decreased in 13.9 % (25/180) of GC, increased in 81.1 % (146/180), and unchanged in 5.0 % (9/180), compared with paracancerous normal tissue (P < 0.001). Univariate analysis showed that high miR-92a expression, tumor stage, tumor status, node status, and tumor size were significant negative prognostic predictors for overall survival in patients with GC (P < 0.001, P < 0.001, P = 0.008, P < 0.001, and P = 0.001, respectively). High miR-92a expression still remained a significant predictor of shorter survival in stage II (n = 56, P = 0.001) and stage III (n = 92, P = 0.009) GC. Multivariate regression analysis demonstrated that tumor status (hazard ratio [HR], 3.10; 95 % confidence interval [CI], 1.51-6.37; P = 0.002), stage (HR, 3.54; 95 % CI, 1.65-7.63; P = 0.000), lymph node metastasis (HR, 2.83; 95 % CI, 1.88-4.28; P = 0.000), high expression of miR-92a (HR, 2.94; 95 % CI, 2.01-4.31; P = 0.000), and tumor size (HR, 2.34; 95 % CI, 1.45-3.79; P = 0.002) predicted shorter OS.High expression of miR-92a compared with adjacent normal tissues was associated with shorter OS. MiR-92a may thus be useful for evaluating prognosis and may provide a novel treatment target in patients with GC.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Postmenopausal osteoporosis is a major health problem with important genetic factors in postmenopausal women. We thoroughly evaluated the relationship of CNR2 polymorphisms with osteoporosis in a cohort of 1032 osteoporosis patients and 2089 healthy controls from Han Chinese postmenopausal women. Statistically significant differences, depending on different genotypes, were presented. INTRODUCTION Osteoporosis is a major health problem in postmenopausal women, which is a multifactorial disease in which genetic determinants are modulated by hormonal, environmental, and nutritional factors. An important clinical risk factor in the pathogenesis of osteoporosis is the presence of genetic polymorphism in susceptibility genes. The aim of our study was to investigate whether CNR2 gene, which attributes to osteoporosis susceptibility in some populations, is associated with bone mineral density (BMD) or osteoporosis in Han Chinese postmenopausal women. METHODS We examine 39 SNPs covering the region of CNR2 gene in 3121 Han Chinese postmenopausal women, consisting of 1032 osteoporosis patients and 2089 healthy controls, to evaluate the association with BMD and osteoporosis. RESULTS We found that rs4237 and rs2501431 were significantly associated with BMD and osteoporosis (corrected p = 0.020085 and 0.017199) in our sample, and the TT genotype of rs2501431 and the AA genotype of rs4237 had lower lumbar spine BMD and femoral neck BMD compared with the other genotypes. Additionally, analyses by haplotypes indicated that two haplotype blocks, containing rs4237 and rs2501431 respectively, in the CNR2 gene significantly associated with BMD and osteoporosis (both global permutation p < 0.001), and a risk haplotype (ATTT) in the block of rs3003336-rs2501431-rs2502992-rs2501432 had almost 4-fold increase in the cases. CONCLUSIONS Our results provide further supportive evidence for an important role of CNR2 gene in the etiology of osteoporosis and suggest that it may be a genetic risk factor for BMD and osteoporosis in Han Chinese postmenopausal women.

Abstract
Although TNM staging based on tumor, node lymph status and metastasis status-is the most widely used method in the clinic to classify breast cancer (BC) and assess prognosis, it offers limited information for different BC subgroups. Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) are regarded as minimal residual disease and are proven to have a strong relationship with BC. Detection of ≥5 CTCs per 7.5 mL in peripheral blood predicts poor prognosis in metastatic BC irrespective of other clinical parameters, whereas, in early-stage BC, detection of CK19(+) CTCs are also associated with poor prognosis. Increasing data and clinical trials show that CTCs can improve prognostic accuracy and help tailor treatment for patients with BC. However, heterogeneous CTCs in the process of an epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in BC makes it a challenge to detect these rare cells. Moreover, the genotypic and phenotypic features of CTCs are different from primary BC tumors. Molecular analysis of CTCs in BC may benefit patients by identifying those amenable to tailored therapy. We propose that CTCs should be used alongside the TNM staging system and the genotype of primary tumor to guide tailored BC diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract
This study aims to investigate the value of high-resolution color Doppler ultrasonography (HR-CDU) in the evaluation of lower-extremity vasculopathy (LEV) and its related risk factors in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. Two hundred forty T2DM patients were selected, who underwent lower-extremity arterial HR-CDU. The patients were divided into the LEV group (V group) and the nonvasculopathy group (A group). The V group was then divided into the mild (B group), moderate (C group), and severe (D group) subgroups. The relevant clinical parameters were simultaneously recorded. The results showed that the lesion-positive detection rate of HR-CDU was significantly higher than that of clinical examination. The age, disease duration, smoking history, blood pressure, blood sugar, fibrinogen (FIB), C-reactive protein (CRP), uric acid (UA), and urinary albumin excretion (UAE) in the V group were higher than in the N group. In the logistic regression analysis, smoking history, age, disease duration, FIB, UA, and fasting blood glucose were independent risk factors of T2DM LEV. The incidence of LEV in T2DM patients increased significantly with increasing age, UA, FIB, CRP, UAE, disease duration, and smoking history, and the vasculopathy level became more severe. In conclusion, age, disease duration, smoking history, blood pressure, blood sugar, FIB, CRP, UA, and UAE are the related risk factors of LEV in T2DM patients.

Abstract
MicroRNA (miR)-486-5p expression is often reduced in human cancers. However, its expression in gastric carcinoma and its relation to clinicopathological features and prognosis are unclear. Tissue microarrays were constructed from 84 patients with gastric adenocarcinoma (GC) who were undergoing radical resection. miR-486-5p expression was detected by miRNA-locked nucleic acid in situ hybridization, and its correlations with clinicopathological features and overall survival were analyzed. Bioinformatic studies predict that fibroblast growth factor 9 (FGF9) is a potential target gene of miR-486-5p. miR-486-5p was mainly located in the cytoplasm of GC cells and neighboring normal tissues. Compared with paracancerous normal tissue, miR-486-5p expression was decreased in 63.1% (53/84) of the GC samples, increased in 32.1% (27/84) and unchanged in 4.8% (4/84). FGF9 expression was decreased in 69.0% (58/84) of GC samples and increased in 31.0% (26/84) compared with normal paracancerous tissues using immunohistochemical analysis. Low or unchanged miR-486-5p expression (P = 0.002), tumor stage (P = 0.001), tumor status (P = 0.001), node status (P = 0.001), tumor size (P = 0.004), and depth of tumor invasion (P = 0.013) were significant negative prognostic predictors for overall survival in patients with GC. After stratification according to American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) stage, low/unchanged miR-486-5p expression remained a significant predictor of poor survival in stage II (P = 0.024) and stage III (P = 0.003). Cox regression analysis identified the following predictors of poor prognosis: tumor status (hazard ratio [HR], 7.19; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.75–29.6; P = 0.006), stage (HR, 2.62; 95%CI, 1.50–4.59; P = 0.001), lymph node metastasis (HR, 2.52; 95% CI, 1.27–4.99; P = 0.008), low/unchanged miR-486-5p (HR, 2.47; 95% CI, 1.35–4.52; P = 0.003), high level of FGF9 (HR, 2.41; 95% CI, 1.42–4.09; P = 0.001) and tumor size (HR, 2.50; 95% CI, 1.30–4.82; P = 0.006). Low or unchanged expression of miR-486-5p compared with neighboring normal tissues was associated with a poor prognosis, while high expression was associated with a good prognosis in GC. miR-486-5p may thus be useful for evaluating prognosis and may provide a novel target treatment in patients with GC.

Abstract
Aberrant DNA methylation that leads to the inactivation of tumor suppressor genes is known to play an important role in the development and progression of breast cancer. Methylation status of cancer-related genes is considered to be a promising biomarker for the early diagnosis and prognosis of tumors. This study investigated the methylation status of the Sox17 gene in breast cancer tissue and its corresponding plasma DNA to evaluate the association of methylation levels with clinicopathological parameters and prognosis.The methylation status of the Sox17 gene promoter was evaluated with methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction (MSP) in 155 paired breast cancer tissue and plasma samples and in 60 paired normal breast tissue and plasma samples. Association of Sox17 methylation status with clinicopathological parameters was analyzed by χ tests. Overall and disease-free survival (DFS) curves were calculated using Kaplan-Meier analysis, and the differences between curves were analyzed by log-rank tests.The frequency of Sox17 gene methylation was 72.9% (113/155) in breast cancer tissues and 58.1% (90/155) in plasma DNA. Sox17 gene methylation was not found in normal breast tissues or in their paired plasma DNA. There was a significant correlation of Sox17 methylation between corresponding tumor tissues and paired plasma DNA (r = 0.688, P < 0.001). Aberrant Sox17 methylation in cancer tissues and in plasma DNA was significantly associated with the tumor node metastasis stage (P = 0.035 and P = 0.001, respectively) and with lymph node metastasis (P < 0.001 and P = 0.001, respectively). Kaplan-Meier survival curves showed that aberrant Sox17 promoter methylation in cancer tissues and plasma DNA was associated with poor DFS (P < 0.005) and overall survival (OS) (P < 0.005). Multivariate analysis showed that Sox17 methylation in plasma DNA was an independent prognostic factor in breast cancer for both DFS (P = 0.020; hazard ratio [HR] = 2.142; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.128-4.067) and for OS (P = 0.001; HR = 4.737; 95% CI: 2.088-10.747).Sox17 gene promoter methylation may play an important role in breast cancer progression and could be used as a prognostic biomarker to identify patients at risk of developing metastasis or recurrence after mastectomy.

Abstract
The current report presents the case of a 41-year-old female exhibiting synchronous primary cancers of the thyroid and breast. Pathological examination of a tissue sample following biopsy identified papillary carcinoma of the thyroid and invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast to provide a definitive diagnosis of synchronous primary tumors. The patient underwent a modified radical mastectomy and total thyroidectomy. Following regular adjuvant chemotherapy with cyclophosphamide (800 mg), doxorubicin (100 mg) and paclitaxel (120 mg), once every three weeks for 3.5 months, oral levothyroxine and endocrinotherapy was recommended. Two years after the initial diagnosis, the patient was healthy with no disease recurrence. To the best of our knowledge, no association has been identified between the etiology and diagnoses of the two synchronous primary tumors. Thus, the aim of the current report was to improve the understanding of synchronous primary tumors of the thyroid and breast by presenting a review of the associated literature regarding breast and thyroid cancer. The mechanisms of synchronous neoplasms have only recently been elucidated, however, misdiagnosis is common. Clinicians are, therefore, advised to carefully examine patients with thyroid or breast cancer to avoid an incorrect or misdiagnosis. Furthermore, the present report aims to provide a reference for the cancer database, since the majority of analyses of rare diseases are derived from case reports. To improve the understanding of synchronous primary cancers of the thyroid and breast, an analysis of recent studies regarding the underlying mechanisms of synchronous primary cancers was also undertaken.

Abstract
Interleukin-11 (IL-11) affects inflammation, motility, and invasion in cancer. Here, we investigated the clinical significance of plasma IL-11 (IL-11p) levels in patients with pancreatic cancer. We enrolled 44 patients with pathologically confirmed diagnoses of pancreatic cancer into this study (median age at diagnosis, 68 years; range, 42-86 years), along with 30 age- and sex-matched healthy controls and 3 patients with pancreatitis complicated with pancreatic cysts and 15 patients with early pancreatitis. Median baseline IL-11p levels of patients with pancreatic cancer were significantly higher than that of the healthy controls (P < 0.001), as were those of the 15 patients with early pancreatitis. IL-11p levels presented high diagnostic accuracy for pancreatic cancer (area under the curve (AUC), 0.901; sensitivity, 97.7%; specificity, 70.0%). Age, sex, lesion site, disease stage, serum dehydrogenase, alkaline phosphatase, γ-glutamyltransferase, and white blood cells, platelets, and hemoglobin levels did not correlate with IL-11p concentrations (P>0.05), but patients with distant metastases had lower median IL-11p values than did patients without distant metastases (P=0.043). Patients with IL-11p higher than the median level (43.2 pg/mL) had better prognoses than those with lower values (P=0.004), particularly as IL-11p concentration increased to ≥ 50 pg/mL (P=0.001). IL-11p concentration correlated with overall survival (≥ median IL-11p, 10 months; <median IL-11p, 4.0 months; P=0.004). In conclusion, IL-11p has diagnostic, predictive, and prognostic applications for patients with pancreatic cancer.

Abstract
Although many studies have shown that transposable element (TE) activation is induced by hybridisation and polyploidisation in plants, much less is known on how different types of TE respond to hybridisation, and the impact of TE-associated sequences on gene function. We investigated the frequency and regularity of putative transposon activation for different types of TE, and determined the impact of TE-associated sequence variation on the genome during allopolyploidisation. We designed different types of TE primers and adopted the Inter-Retrotransposon Amplified Polymorphism (IRAP) method to detect variation in TE-associated sequences during the process of allopolyploidisation between Brassica rapa (AA) and Brassica oleracea (CC), and in successive generations of self-pollinated progeny. In addition, fragments with TE insertions were used to perform Blast2GO analysis to characterise the putative functions of the fragments with TE insertions. Ninety-two primers amplifying 548 loci were used to detect variation in sequences associated with four different orders of TE sequences. TEs could be classed in ascending frequency into LTR-REs, TIRs, LINEs, SINEs and unknown TEs. The frequency of novel variation (putative activation) detected for the four orders of TEs was highest from the F1 to F2 generations, and lowest from the F2 to F3 generations. Functional annotation of sequences with TE insertions showed that genes with TE insertions were mainly involved in metabolic processes and binding, and preferentially functioned in organelles. TE variation in our study severely disturbed the genetic compositions of the different generations, resulting in inconsistencies in genetic clustering. Different types of TE showed different patterns of variation during the process of allopolyploidisation.
