Comparison of metabolic syndrome prevalence and characteristics using five different definitions in China: a population-based retrospective study. Front Public Health 2024; 12:1333910. [PMID: 38439751 PMCID: PMC10909998 DOI: 10.3389/fpubh.2024.1333910] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 12/01/2023] [Accepted: 02/05/2024] [Indexed: 03/06/2024] Open
Abstract
Background Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is on the rise in developing countries and is characterized by a series of indications of metabolic disturbance. However, the prevalence of MetS varies under different definitions. The study aimed to compare five definitions of MetS in the China adult population, to explore their prevalence, characteristics and agreement. Methods The data for the retrospective study came from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), consisting of 9,588 participants (≥45). MetS definitions from International Diabetes Federation (IDF) (2006), National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III (ATPIII) (2005), National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III (ATPIII) (2001), Chinese Diabetes society (CDS) (2004) and the World Health Organization (WHO) (1999). We used binary and multivariable logistic analysis to explore factors connected with MetS. Results The five definitions of MetS led to different prevalence of MetS:34.52% by IDF (2006), 38.63% by ATP (2005), 25.94% by ATP (2001), 26.31% by CDS (2004), 21.57% by WHO (1999). According to the definition of IDF (2006) (22.32% vs. 45.06%), ATPIII (2005) definition (27.99% vs. 47.82%), ATPIII (2001) definition (15.37% vs. 35.07%), CDS (2004) definition (19.96% vs. 31.80%), and WHO (1999) definition (17.44% vs. 25.14%), the prevalence of MetS in men was low but in women was high. The agreement between the five definitions for men was good except for the IDF (2006) definition and ATPIII (2001) definition (kappa = 0.51), with kappa values from 0.64 to 0.85. For women, the agreement between the five definitions was good ranging from 0.67 to 0.95, however, except for the definition of CDS (2004) and the definition of IDF (2006) (kappa = 0.44), the definition of WHO (1999) and the definition of IDF (2006) (kappa = 0.55), and the definition of WHO (1999) and the definition of ATPIII (2005) (kappa = 0.54). Binary logistic analysis indicated that although the impact and relevance varied by sex and definition, age, education, marital status, current residence, current smoking, alcohol using, taking activities and number of chronic diseases were factors connected to MetS. Conclusion the prevalence and characteristics of the five definitions of MetS are different in the Chinese population. Therefore, it is vital to use the same definition for a country to diagnose MetS. On the other side, a lower prevalence in men than in women and the consistency of five MetS definitions are good in men but relatively poor in women.

An Analysis of the Latent Class and Influencing Factors of Problematic Mobile Social Media Usage Among Chinese College Students. Psychol Res Behav Manag 2024; 17:367-378. [PMID: 38327872 PMCID: PMC10848824 DOI: 10.2147/prbm.s438713] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Download PDF] [Figures] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 11/02/2023] [Accepted: 01/24/2024] [Indexed: 02/09/2024] Open
Abstract
Purpose To explore the potential classification of Problematic Mobile Social Media Usage (PMSMU) in Chinese college students, analyze whether there is group heterogeneity in PMSMU, and discuss the differences in the latent profile of PMSMU in fear of missing out, online positive feedback, and boredom proneness. Methods A total of 2591 Chinese college students were investigated using the Problematic Mobile Social Media Usage Questionnaire, Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) Scale, Online Positive Feedback Scale and Short-form Boredom Proneness Scale, and heterogeneity was tested by latent profile analysis. Results The PMSMU of college students can be divided into three latent profiles: no-problem use group (26.44%), mild problem use group (56.66%), and severe problem use group (16.91%). Male students, as compared to female students, showed a significantly lower likelihood of being classified as mild problematic users (OR=0.50, p<0.001) and severe problematic users (OR=0.29, p<0.001). Additionally, students with higher levels of FOMO, a stronger craving for online positive feedback, and increased boredom proneness are more likely to belong to the severe problematic use group (OR=2.91, p<0.001; OR=1.42, p<0.01; OR=8.72, p<0.001). Conclusion The results of this study highlight the factors influencing the heterogeneity of individual PMSMU. Specifically, female college students and those with a higher fear of missing out, greater susceptibility to boredom, and a stronger craving for positive online feedback are more likely to exhibit severe PMSMU. These findings provide valuable empirical evidence for developing preventive strategies to address PMSMU among college students.

Abstract
Objective Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remains a major and widespread public health concern throughout the world. The prevalence of T2DM in the elderly has risen to the top of the list of public health concerns. In this study, obesity- and lipid-related indices were used to predict T2DM in middle-aged and elderly Chinese adults. Methods The data came from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), including 7902 middle-aged and elderly participants aged 45 years or above. The study assessed the association of obesity- and lipid-related indices and T2DM by measuring 13 indicators, including body mass index (BMI), waist circumference(WC), waist-height ratio (WHtR), conicity index(CI), visceral adiposity index (VAI), Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), a body shape index (ABSI), body roundness index (BRI), triglyceride glucose index (TyG-index) and its correlation index (TyG-BMI, TyG-WC, TyG-WHtR). The association of 13 obesity- and lipid-related indices with T2DM was investigated by binary logistic regression. Additionally, the predictive anthropometric index was evaluated, and the ideal cut-off value was established using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis and area under the curve (AUC). Results The study included 7902 participants, of whom 3638(46.04) and 4264(53.96) were male and female. The prevalence of T2DM in mid-aged and old adults in China was 9.02% in males and 9.15% in females. All the above 13 indicators show a modest predictive power (AUC>0.5), which was significant for predicting T2DM in adults (middle-aged and elderly people) in China (P<0.05). The results revealed that TyG-WHtR [AUC =0.600, 95%CI: 0.566-0.634] in males and in females [AUC =0.664, 95%CI: 0.636-0.691] was the best predictor of T2DM (P<0.05). Conclusion Most obesity- and lipid-related indices have important value in predicting T2DM. Our results can provide measures for the early identification of T2DM in mid-aged and elderly Chinese to reduce the prevalence of T2DM and improve health.

Suppression of damping in a diamagnetically levitated dielectric sphere via eddy currents and static charge reduction. OPTICS EXPRESS 2023; 31:34493-34502. [PMID: 37859204 DOI: 10.1364/oe.500661] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 07/14/2023] [Accepted: 08/23/2023] [Indexed: 10/21/2023]
Abstract
Diamagnetically levitated micro-nano oscillators play a crucial role in fundamental physics research and the advancement of high-precision sensors. Achieving high sensitivity in acceleration or force sensing is a fundamental requirement within these research domains. The primary limitation in achieving such sensitivity is thermal noise, which is directly proportional to the motion damping of the oscillator. Theoretical modeling suggests the presence of significant damping mechanisms induced by eddy currents. In this study, we validated the theoretical model by optimizing the structure of the magnet trap, confirming the impact of eddy currents on the damping of the oscillators. Additionally, we observed another type of damping caused by static charge in moving levitated dielectrics. Subsequently, we proposed an innovative theoretical model to explain this phenomenon and verified its validity during the charge neutralization process. Through these efforts, we successfully reduced the total damping from 1.6 mHz to 0.15 mHz, resulting in an order of magnitude improvement in performance. Our sensing system achieved the highest sensitivity of acceleration sensing in diamagnetically levitated submillimeter-scale dielectric to date, measuring 7.6±0.8)×10-10g/Hz. The exploration conducted in this study regarding the analysis and suppression of electromagnetic damping, along with associated thermal noise, holds significant promise for frontier research involving sensing with levitating dielectrics.

Abstract
Background An increasing number of studies have shown the association between traumatic events occurring in childhood and adolescence and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). A gap remains in the literature on the epidemiology and influencing factors of traumatic events and post-traumatic stress disorder in communities in northern China. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of traumatic events and PTSD in communities in northern China, to explore the types of stressful traumatic events and the impact of these traumatic events on children and adolescents, and to investigate the effect of sociodemographic factors on PTSD. Methods A cross-sectional survey study was conducted among 6,027 students (7-17 years old) from 6 cities in Liaoning Province, China. The sample consisted of 2,853 males (47.34%) and 3,174 females (52.66%). The Essen Trauma-Inventory for Children and Adolescents (ETI-CA) Scale was used. The ETI-CA has 5 sections, which include type of traumatic events, worst traumatic event, post-traumatic symptoms, onset, duration, burden of PTSD, and present difficulties in different areas of life. PTSD symptoms were assessed with 23 items in Part 3 of the ETI-CA. Results We found that 2,068 (34.3%) of 6,027 participants experienced trauma events and 686 (33.2%) of 2,068 reported PTSD. Among trauma-exposed youth (2,068), the sudden death of close relatives (33.9%), serious accidents (20.9%), and parental divorce (15.5%) were reported as the worst traumatic events. Studies have shown that after exposure to stressful life events, more than 30% of people feel nervous or upset (39.8%), scared (33.4%), helpless (32.6%), and about 10% have headaches (15.5%), rapid heartbeat (13.3%), and dizziness (11.8%). Multivariable logistic regression analyses showed that students in middle school [OR = 1.29 (1.016, 1.637)], not a student leader [OR = 0.738 (0.618, 0.881)], and their parents in single marital status significantly predicted higher PTSD prevalence the remarried [OR = 0.474 (0.252, 0.893)], married [OR = 0.42 (0.227, 0.778)]. Conclusion The present study suggests the government to train psychological counselors in schools and communities to provide emotional and psychological support, as well as the school leaders and parents to elevate adolescents' psychological suzhi. Particularly, counseling and professional support should be given to those students whose parents are single.

[PMID: 37808974 PMCID: PMC10552859 DOI: 10.3389/fpubh.2023.1116263] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Figures] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 12/05/2022] [Accepted: 04/06/2023] [Indexed: 10/10/2023] Open
Abstract
Objective The aging trend of China's population is severe and successful aging (SA) is imminent. Aging can lead to various chronic diseases, with hypertension being the most common. Due to this lifelong disease, patients suffer from many anxieties, as death anxiety (DA) can be the most prevalent. Studies have exhibited that middle-aged adults approaching the transition to an older state show more pronounced DA than the more senior. It has been suggested that psychological resilience (PR) can reduce DA. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the mediating effect of SA between PR and DA in middle-aged and older adults with hypertension. Methods A cross-sectional survey was designed. From August to December 2021, 298 middle-aged and older adults with hypertension were selected by multistage cluster random sampling in three districts (Ling he District, Gu ta District, and Tai He District) of Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province. They were surveyed using the demographic questionnaires, the Conner-Davidson Resilience Scale, the Successful Aging Inventory, and the Chinese version of a Likert-type Templer-Death Anxiety Scale. Descriptive analyses, independent sample T-test, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to describe demographic characteristics among hypertensive patients with different characteristics, respectively. Statistics were considered significant when P < 0.05. Pearson correlation coefficients describe the relationship between PR, SA, and DA. The research model was shaped through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). SPSS PROCESS macro was used to verify the mediation model. A binary logistic regression model was used with DA as the dependent variable. Results The scores for PR, SA, and DA in hypertensive patients are (49.52 ± 14.38) points, (51.22 ± 7.63) points, and (46.67 ± 9.03) points. PR was negatively correlated with DA (r = -0.307, P < 0.01). Moreover, incorporating SA as a mediating variable in PR and DA, SA was positively correlated with PR (r = 0.335, P < 0.01) and DA (r = 0.085, P > 0.05). The direct effect is opposite to the sign of the indirect effect. There is a suppression between PR and DA with a percentage of 20.7%. Good self-assessed health status [0.057 (0.018, 0.183)] may be a protective factor for DA. Conclusion Healthcare providers should improve the PR of middle-aged and older adults with hypertension through interventions that reduce DA and increase the likelihood of SA.

Abstract
Objective To predict the optimal cut-off values for screening and predicting metabolic syndrome(MetS) in a middle-aged and elderly Chinese population using 13 obesity and lipid-related indicators, and to identify the most suitable predictors. Methods The data for this cross-sectional investigation came from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), including 9457 middle-aged and elderly people aged 45-98 years old. We examined 13 indicators, including waist circumference (WC), body mass index (BMI), waist-height ratio (WHtR), visceral adiposity index (VAI), a body shape index (ABSI), body roundness index (BRI), lipid accumulation product index (LAP), conicity index (CI), Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI), triglyceride-glucose index (TyG-index) and their combined indices (TyG-BMI, TyG-WC, TyG-WHtR). The receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was used to determine the usefulness of indicators for screening for MetS in the elderly and to determine their cut-off values, sensitivity, specificity, and area under the curve (AUC). Association analysis of 13 obesity-related indicators with MetS was performed using binary logistic regression analysis. Results A total of 9457 middle-aged and elderly Chinese were included in this study, and the overall prevalence of the study population was 41.87% according to the diagnostic criteria of NCEP ATP III. According to age and gender, the percentage of males diagnosed with MetS was 30.67% (45-54 years old: 30.95%, 55-64 years old: 41.02%, 65-74 years old: 21.19%, ≥ 75 years old: 6.84%). The percentage of females diagnosed with MetS was 51.38% (45-54 years old: 31.95%, 55-64 years old: 39.52%, 65-74 years old: 20.43%, ≥ 75 years old: 8.10%). The predictive power of Tyg-related parameters was more prominent in both sexes. In addition, LAP and CVAI are also good at predicting MetS. ABSI had a poor prediction ability. Conclusions Among the middle-aged and elderly population in China, after adjusting for confounding factors, all the indicators except ABSI had good predictive power. The predictive power of Tyg-related parameters was more prominent in both sexes. In addition, LAP and CVAI are also good at predicting MetS.

Abstract
Researchers in the cell and gene therapy (CGT) industry have long faced a formidable challenge in the efficient and large-scale expansion of cells. To address the primary shortcomings of the two-dimensional (2D) planar culturing system, we innovatively developed an automated closed industrial scale cell production (ACISCP) platform based on a GMP-grade, dissolvable, and porous microcarrier for the 3D culture of adherent cells, including human mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (hMSCs), HEK293T cells, and Vero cells. To achieve large-scale expansion, a two-stage expansion was conducted with 5 L and 15 L stirred-tank bioreactors to yield 1.1 x 1010 hMSCs with an overall 128-fold expansion within 9 days. The cells were harvested by completely dissolving the microcarriers, concentrated, washed and formulated with a continuous-flow centrifuge-based cell processing system, and then aliquoted with a cell filling system. Compared with 2D planar culture, there are no significant differences in the quality of hMSCs harvested from 3D culture. We have also applied these dissolvable porous microcarriers to other popular cell types in the CGT sector; specifically, HEK293T cells and Vero cells have been cultivated to peak cell densities of 1.68 x 107 cells/mL and 1.08 x 107 cells/mL, respectively. This study provides a protocol for using a bioprocess engineering platform harnessing the characteristics of GMP-grade dissolvable microcarriers and advanced closed equipment to achieve the industrial-scale manufacturing of adherent cells.

Abstract
Objective Depressive symptom is a serious mental illness often accompanied by physical and emotional problems. The prevalence of depressive symptom in older adults has become an increasingly important public health priority. Our study used cardiometabolic indicators to predict depressive symptom in middle-aged and older adults in China. Methods The data came from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study 2011 (CHARLS2011), which was a cross-sectional study. The analytic sample included 8,942 participants aged 45 years or above. The study evaluated the relationship between cardiometabolic indicators and depression by measuring 13 indicators, including body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, waist-height ratio (WHtR), conicity index, visceral adiposity index (VAI), Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), a body shape index (ABSI), body roundness index (BRI), triglyceride glucose index (TyG-index) and its correlation index (TyG-BMI, TyG-waist circumference, TyG-WHtR). Binary logistic regression analysis was used to examine the association between thirteen cardiometabolic indicators and depressive symptom. In addition, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis and area under curve (AUC) were used to evaluate the predictive anthropometric index and to determine the optimum cut-off value. Results The study included 8,942 participants, of whom 4,146 (46.37%) and 4,796 (53.63%) were male and female. The prevalence of depressive symptom in mid-aged and older adults in China was 41.12% in males and 55.05% in females. The results revealed that BMI [AUC = 0.440, 95%CI: 0.422-0.457], waist circumference [AUC = 0.443, 95%CI: 0.425-0.460], WHtR [AUC = 0.459, 95%CI: 0.441-0.476], LAP [AUC = 0.455, 95%CI: 0.437-0.472], BRI [AUC = 0.459, 95%CI: 0.441-0.476], CVAI [AUC = 0.449, 95%CI: 0.432-0.467], TyG-BMI [AUC = 0.447, 95%CI: 0.429-0.465], and TyG-waist circumference [AUC =0.452, 95%CI: 0.434-0.470] were weak predictors of depressive symptom (p < 0.05) in males. In females, BMI [AUC = 0.470, 95%CI: 0.453-0.486], LAP [AUC = 0.484, 95%CI: 0.467-0.500], TyG-BMI [AUC = 0.470, 95%CI: 0.454-0.487], and TyG-waist circumference [AUC =0.481, 95%CI: 0.465-0.498] were weak predictors of depressive symptom (p < 0.05). On the other side, VAI, ABSI, conicity index and TyG index could not predict depressive symptom in middle-aged and older adults. Conclusion Most cardiometabolic indicators have important value in predicting depressive symptom. Our results can provide measures for the early identification of depressive symptom in middle-aged and older adults in China to reduce the prevalence of depressive symptom and improve health.

Abstract
Objective: To develop a quantitative evaluation software for three-dimensional morphology of pathological scars based on photo modeling technology, and to verify its accuracy and feasibility in clinical application. Methods: The method of prospective observational study was adopted. From April 2019 to January 2022, 59 patients with pathological scars (totally 107 scars) who met the inclusion criteria were admitted to the First Medical Center of Chinese PLA General Hospital, including 27 males and 32 females, aged 33 (26, 44) years. Based on photo modeling technology, a software for measuring three-dimensional morphological parameters of pathological scars was developed with functions of collecting patients' basic information, and scar photography, three-dimensional reconstruction, browsing the models, and generating reports. This software and the clinical routine methods (vernier calipers, color Doppler ultrasonic diagnostic equipment, and elastomeric impression water injection method measurement) were used to measure the longest length, maximum thickness, and volume of scars, respectively. For scars with successful modelling, the number, distribution of scars, number of patients, and the longest length, maximum thickness, and volume of scars measured by both the software and clinical routine methods were collected. For scars with failed modelling, the number, distribution, type of scars, and the number of patients were collected. The correlation and consistency of the software and clinical routine methods in measuring the longest length, maximum thickness, and volume of scars were analyzed by unital linear regression analysis and the Bland-Altman method, respectively, and the intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs), mean absolute error (MAE), and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) were calculated. Results: A total of 102 scars from 54 patients were successfully modeled, which located in the chest (43 scars), in the shoulder and back (27 scars), in the limb (12 scars), in the face and neck (9 scars), in the auricle (6 scars), and in the abdomen (5 scars). The longest length, maximum thickness, and volume measured by the software and clinical routine methods were 3.61 (2.13, 5.19) and 3.53 (2.02, 5.11) cm, 0.45 (0.28, 0.70) and 0.43 (0.24, 0.72) cm, 1.17 (0.43, 3.57) and 0.96 (0.36, 3.26) mL. The 5 hypertrophic scars and auricular keloids from 5 patients were unsuccessfully modeled. The longest length, maximum thickness, and volume measured by the software and clinical routine methods showed obvious linear correlation (with r values of 0.985, 0.917, and 0.998, P<0.05). The ICCs of the longest length, maximum thickness, and volume of scars measured by the software and clinical routine methods were 0.993, 0.958, and 0.999 (with 95% confidence intervals of 0.989-0.995, 0.938-0.971, and 0.998-0.999, respectively). The longest length, maximum thickness, and volume of scars measured by the software and clinical routine methods had good consistency. The Bland-Altman method showed that 3.92% (4/102), 7.84% (8/102), and 8.82% (9/102) of the scars with the longest length, maximum thickness, and volume respectively were outside the 95% consistency limit. Within the 95% consistency limit, 2.04% (2/98) scars had the longest length error of more than 0.5 cm, 1.06% (1/94) scars had the maximum thickness error of more than 0.2 cm, and 2.15% (2/93) scars had the volume error of more than 0.5 mL. The MAE and MAPE of the longest length, maximum thickness, and volume of scars measured by the software and clinical routine methods were 0.21 cm, 0.10 cm, 0.24 mL, and 5.75%, 21.21%, 24.80%, respectively. Conclusions: The quantitative evaluation software for three-dimensional morphology of pathological scars based on photo modeling technology can realize the three-dimensional modeling and measurement of morphological parameters of most pathological scars. Its measurement results were in good consistency with those of clinical routine methods, and the errors were acceptable in clinic. This software can be used as an auxiliary method for clinical diagnosis and treatment of pathological scars.

Obesity- and lipid-related indices as a predictor of obesity metabolic syndrome in a national cohort study. Front Public Health 2023; 11:1073824. [PMID: 36875382 PMCID: PMC9980350 DOI: 10.3389/fpubh.2023.1073824] [Citation(s) in RCA: 13] [Impact Index Per Article: 13.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Figures] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 10/18/2022] [Accepted: 01/16/2023] [Indexed: 02/18/2023] Open
Abstract
Objective Metabolic syndrome is a common condition among middle-aged and elderly people. Recent studies have reported the association between obesity- and lipid-related indices and metabolic syndrome, but whether those conditions could predict metabolic syndrome is still inconsistent in a few longitudinal studies. In our study, we aimed to predict metabolic syndrome by obesity- and lipid-related indices in middle-aged and elderly Chinese adults. Method A national cohort study that consisted of 3,640 adults (≥45 years) was conducted. A total of 13 obesity- and lipid-related indices, including body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), conicity index (CI), visceral adiposity index (VAI), Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), a body shape index (ABSI), body roundness index (BRI), and triglyceride glucose index (TyG-index) and its correlation index (TyG-BMI, TyG-WC, and TyG-WHtR), were recorded. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) was defined based on the criteria of the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III (2005). Participants were categorized into two groups according to the different sex. Binary logistic regression analyses were used to evaluate the associations between the 13 obesity- and lipid-related indices and MetS. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve studies were used to identify the best predictor of MetS. Results A total of 13 obesity- and lipid-related indices were independently associated with MetS risk, even after adjustment for age, sex, educational status, marital status, current residence, history of drinking, history of smoking, taking activities, having regular exercises, and chronic diseases. The ROC analysis revealed that the 12 obesity- and lipid-related indices included in the study were able to discriminate MetS [area under the ROC curves (AUC > 0.6, P < 0.05)] and ABSI was not able to discriminate MetS [area under the ROC curves (AUC < 0.6, P > 0.05)]. The AUC of TyG-BMI was the highest in men, and that of CVAI was the highest in women. The cutoff values for men and women were 187.919 and 86.785, respectively. The AUCs of TyG-BMI, CVAI, TyG-WC, LAP, TyG-WHtR, BMI, WC, WHtR, BRI, VAI, TyG index, CI, and ABSI were 0.755, 0.752, 0.749, 0.745, 0.735, 0.732, 0.730, 0.710, 0.710, 0.674, 0.646, 0.622, and 0.537 for men, respectively. The AUCs of CVAI, LAP, TyG-WC, TyG-WHtR, TyG-BMI, WC, WHtR, BRI, BMI, VAI, TyG-index, CI, and ABSI were 0.687, 0.674, 0.674, 0.663, 0.656, 0.654, 0.645, 0.645, 0.638, 0.632, 0.607, 0.596, and 0.543 for women, respectively. The AUC value for WHtR was equal to that for BRI in predicting MetS. The AUC value for LAP was equal to that for TyG-WC in predicting MetS for women. Conclusion Among middle-aged and older adults, all obesity- and lipid-related indices, except ABSI, were able to predict MetS. In addition, in men, TyG-BMI is the best indicator to indicate MetS, and in women, CVAI is considered the best hand to indicate MetS. At the same time, TyG-BMI, TyG-WC, and TyG-WHtR performed better than BMI, WC, and WHtR in predicting MetS in both men and women. Therefore, the lipid-related index outperforms the obesity-related index in predicting MetS. In addition to CVAI, LAP showed a good predictive correlation, even more closely than lipid-related factors in predicting MetS in women. It is worth noting that ABSI performed poorly, was not statistically significant in either men or women, and was not predictive of MetS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies, predominantly in Western individuals, have reported weight gain or weight loss are related to the increased depressive symptoms at all ages, but no study of depressive symptoms has examined its relation to actual (not just self-reported) weight changes in the middle-aged and older adults. Evidence of the relationship in older Asian individuals remains sparse. The study aimed to examine the relationship between weight changes and incidence of depressive symptoms in a nationally representative sample of community-dwelling older Asians. METHOD Data were obtained from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), which included 17,284 adults aged 45 years. Participants were followed every two years using a face-to-face, computer-aided personal interview (CAPI) and structured questionnaire. We excluded participants with no follow-up data. The numbers of individuals who completed both the baseline and follow-up surveys were 3118 for the short-term (two years from 2011-2013) and the long-term (four years from 2011-2015). Additionally, to associate weight change with subsequent depressive symptoms, we also included 2472 participants without depressive symptom in 2013 and observed the incidence of depressive symptom in 2015 (subsequent term from 2013-2015). Finally, weight changes were classified as loss > -3%, stable-3-3%, gain3-6%, gain6-9%, and gain > 9%. Multivariable-adjusted cox regression in the study were used to assess the hazard ratios (HRs) of each weight change category. RESULTS The incidence of depressive symptoms was 20.72% in the 2011-2013, 27.04% in the 2011-2015, and 23.02% in 2013-2015. Weight loss > 3% for all intervals was associated with higher depressive symptoms than stable weight during the 2011-2013 [1.305(1.031,1.651)] among the total populations. When stratified by sex, the results in males and females were different from those in the total population [females:1.389(0.997, 1.935); males:1.263(0.902, 1.767)]. Weight loss > 3% for intervals was associated with higher depressive symptoms than stable weight during the 2013-2015[1.643(1.140, 2.368)] among the males and its effect was also stronger for the total in 2011-2013. Moreover, there was no significant association between weight gain and incident depressive symptom, and no significant interaction effect in terms of the sex*weight changes. CONCLUSION Our findings could inform health promotion interventions to body-weight management aimed at improving the health of the middle-aged and older adults, particularly in the total people with short-term weight loss and males with subsequent term weight loss.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the demographic distribution, clinical signs, and clinical types of herpes simplex virus keratitis (HSK). Methods: Retrospective case series. The data of 1 015 cases of HSK (1 054 eyes) diagnosed in Beijing Tongren Eye Center, Beijing Tongren Hospital of Capital Medical University from January 2010 to June 2019 were collected. The patients included 613 males and 402 females, and the age was 47.43±16.79 years. Information of the patients such as age, sex, the season of onset, eye laterality, and clinical signs was assessed. Slit-lamp microscopy and corneal fluorescein staining were used to locate the anatomical position of lesions. HSK was classified into epithelial type, neurotrophic type, stromal type, endothelial type, and mixed type. The distribution data was compared by the Chi-square test or Fisher's exact test. Results: There were 41 children (≤14 years old; 4.04%), 338 youth (15-44 years old; 33.30%), 374 middle-aged (45-59 years old; 36.85%), and 262 elderly (≥60 years old; 25.81%) patients. The type was epithelial in 246 cases (24.24%), neurotrophic in 27 cases (2.66%), stromal in 372 cases (36.65%), endothelial in 274 cases (26.99%), and mixed in 96 cases (9.46%). There was statistically significant difference in clinical typing among the different age groups (χ2=30.197, P=0.003). Epithelial HSK was found in 141 males (57.32%) and 105 females (42.68%), neurotrophic HSK in 16 males (59.26%) and 11 females (40.74%), stromal HSK in 226 males (60.75%) and 146 females (39.25%), endothelial HSK in 171 males (62.41%) and 103 females (37.59%), and mixed HSK in 59 males (61.46%) and 37 females (38.54%). There was no statistically significant difference in clinical classification of keratitis between genders (χ2=1.519, P=0.823). Among the cases of mixed type, there were 21 cases of epithelial-stromal type (21.88%), 30 cases of epithelial-endothelial type (31.25%), 37 cases of stromal-endothelial type (38.54%), 1 case of epithelial-neurotrophic type (1.04%), and 7 cases of neurotrophic-stromal type (7.29%). Conclusions: HSK occurs mainly in middle-aged and young adults, but rarely in children. The proportion of males is higher than that of females. The proportion of stromal HSK is highest, and 9.46% of patients present mixed HSK.

A novel form of docetaxel polymeric micelles demonstrates anti-tumor and ascites-inhibitory activities in animal models as monotherapy or in combination with anti-angiogenic agents. Front Pharmacol 2022; 13:964076. Abstract
Malignant ascites (MA) is caused by intraperitoneal spread of solid tumor cells and results in a poor quality of life. Chemotherapy is a common first-line treatment for patients with MA. Taxotere ® (DTX) is widely used in solid tumor therapies. However, the low water solubility and side effects caused by additives in the formulation restrict the clinical application of docetaxel. HT001 is a clinical stage docetaxel micelle developed to overcome the solubility issue with improved safety profiles. To support clinical development and expand clinical application of HT001, this study used in vitro and in vivo approaches to investigate the anti-tumor effects of HT001 when applied as monotherapy or in combination with anti-angiogenic agents. HT001 demonstrated comparable anti-proliferative activities as docetaxel in a broad range of cancer cell lines in vitro. Furthermore, HT001 suppressed tumor growth in a dose-dependent manner in A549, MCF-7, and SKOV-3 xenograft tumor mouse models in vivo. In a hepatocellular carcinoma H22 malignant ascites-bearing mouse model, HT001 presented a dose-dependent inhibition of ascites production, prolonged animal survival, and reduced VEGF levels. When dosed at 20 mg/kg, the HT001-treated group exhibited curative results, with no ascites formation in 80% of mice at the end of the study while all the mice in the vehicle control group succumbed. Similar results were obtained in HT001 treatment of mice bearing malignant ascites produced by human ovarian cancer ES-2 cells. Notably, the combination of HT001 with Endostar not only significantly reduced ascites production but also prolonged survival of H22 ascites-bearing mice. HT001 showed similar PK and tissue distribution profiles as DTX in non-rodent hosts. Collectively, these results demonstrate potent anti-tumor activity of HT001 in multiple solid tumor models or malignant ascites models, and reveal synergistic effects with anti-angiogenic agents, supporting the clinical development and clinical expansion plans for HT001.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the value of predicting the degree of differentiation of pulmonary invasive adenocarcinoma (IAC) based on CT image radiomics model and the expression difference of immunohistochemical factors between different degrees of differentiation of lesions. Methods: The clinicopathological data of patients with pulmonary IAC confirmed by surgical pathology in the Affiliated Huai'an First People's Hospital to Nanjing Medical University from December 2017 to September 2018 were collected. High-throughput feature acquisition was performed for all outlined regions of interest, and prediction models were constructed after dimensionality reduction by the minimum absolute shrinkage operator. Receiver operating characteristic curve was used to assess the predictive efficacy of clinical characteristic model, radiomics model and individualized prediction model combined with both to identify the degree of pulmonary IAC differentiation, and immunohistochemical expressions of Ki-67, NapsinA and TTF-1 were compared between groups with different degrees of IAC differentiation using rank sum test. Results: A total of 396 high-throughput features were extracted from all IAC lesions, and 10 features with high generalization ability and correlation with the degree of IAC differentiation were screened. The mean radiomics score of poorly differentiated IAC in the training group (1.206) was higher than that of patients with high and medium differentiation (0.969, P=0.001), and the mean radiomics score of poorly differentiated IAC in the test group (1.545) was higher than that of patients with high and medium differentiation (-0.815, P<0.001). The differences in gender (P<0.001), pleural stretch sign (P=0.005), and burr sign (P=0.033) were statistically significant between patients in the well and poorly differentiated IAC groups. Multifactorial logistic regression analysis showed that gender and pleural stretch sign were related to the degree of IAC differentiation (P<0.05). The clinical feature model consisted of age, gender, pleural stretch sign, burr sign, tumor vessel sign, and vacuolar sign, and the individualized prediction model consisted of gender, pleural stretch sign, and radiomic score, and was represented by a nomogram. The Akaike information standard values of the radiomics model, clinical feature model and individualized prediction model were 54.756, 82.214 and 53.282, respectively. The individualized prediction model was most effective in identifying the degree of differentiation of pulmonary IAC, and the area under the curves (AUC) of the individualized prediction model in the training group and the test group were 0.92 (95% CI: 0.86-0.99) and 0.88 (95% CI: 0.74-1.00, respectively). The AUCs of the radiomics group model for predicting the degree of differentiation of pulmonary IAC in the training group and the test group were 0.91 (95% CI: 0.83-0.98) and 0.87 (95% CI: 0.72-1.00), respectively. The AUCs of the clinical characteristics model for predicting the degree of differentiation of pulmonary IACs in the training and test groups were 0.75 (95% CI: 0.63-0.86) and 0.76 (95% CI: 0.59-0.94), respectively. The expression level of Ki-67 in poorly differentiated IAC was higher than that in well-differentiated IAC (P<0.001). The expression levels of NapsinA, TTF-1 in poorly differentiated IAC were higher than those in well-differentiated IAC (P<0.05). Conclusions: Individualized prediction model consisted of gender, pleural stretch sign and radiomics score can discriminate the differentiation degree of IAC with the best performance in comparison with clinical feature model and radiomics model. Ki-67, NapsinA and TTF-1 express differently in different degrees of differentiation of IAC.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the role and mechanism of Vγ4 T cells in impaired wound healing of rapamycin-induced full-thickness skin defects in mice. Methods: The experimental research methods were applied. Eighty-six C57BL/6J male mice (hereinafter briefly referred to as wild-type mice) aged 8-12 weeks were selected for the following experiments. Vγ4 T cells were isolated from axillary lymph nodes of five wild-type mice for the following experiments. Intraperitoneal injection of rapamycin for 42 mice was performed to establish rapamycin-treated mice model for the following experiments. Eighteen wild-type mice were divided into normal control group without any treatment, trauma only group, and trauma+CC chemokine ligand 20 (CCL20) inhibitor group according to the random number table (the same grouping method below), with 6 mice in each group. The full-thickness skin defect wound was made on the back of mice in the latter two groups (the same wound model below), and mice in trauma+CCL20 inhibitor group were continuously injected subcutaneously with CCL20 inhibitor at the wound edge for 3 days after injury. Another 6 rapamycin-treated mice were used to establish wound model as rapamycin+trauma group. On post injury day (PID) 3, the epidermal cells of the skin tissue around the wound of each trauma mice were extracted by enzyme digestion, and the percentage of Vγ4 T cells in the epidermal cells was detected by flow cytometry. In normal control group, the epidermal cells of the normal skin tissue in the back of mice were taken at the appropriate time point for detection as above. Five wild-type mice were used to establish wound models. On PID 3, the epidermal cells were extracted from the skin tissue around the wound. The cell populations were divided into Vγ4 T cells, Vγ3 T cells, and γδ negative cells by fluorescence-activated cell sorter, which were set as Vγ4 T cell group, Vγ3 T cell group, and γδ negative cell group (with cells in each group being mixed with B16 mouse melanoma cells), respectively. B16 mouse melanoma cells were used as melanoma cell control group. The expression of interleukin-22 (IL-22) mRNA in cells of each group was detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), with the number of samples being 6. Thirty rapamycin-treated mice were used to establish wound models, which were divided into Vγ4 T cell only group and Vγ4 T cell+IL-22 inhibitor group performed with corresponding injections and rapamycin control group injected with phosphate buffer solution (PBS) immediately after injury, with 10 mice in each group. Another 10 wild-type mice were taken to establish wound models and injected with PBS as wild-type control group. Mice in each group were injected continuously for 6 days. The percentage of wound area of mice in the four groups was calculated on PID 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 after injection on the same day. Six wild-type mice and 6 rapamycin-treated mice were taken respectively to establish wound models as wild-type group and rapamycin group. On PID 3, the mRNA and protein expressions of IL-22 and CCL20 in the peri-wound epidermis tissue of mice in the two groups were detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative RT-PCR and Western blotting, respectively. The Vγ4 T cells were divided into normal control group without any treatment and rapamycin-treated rapamycin group. After being cultured for 24 hours, the mRNA and protein expressions of IL-22 of cells in the two groups were detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative RT-PCR and Western blotting, respectively, with the number of samples being 6. Data were statistically analyzed with independent sample t test, analysis of variance for repeated measurement, one-way analysis of variance, Bonferroni method, Kruskal-Wallis H test, and Wilcoxon rank sum test. Results: The percentage of Vγ4 T cells in the epidermal cells of the skin tissue around the wound of mice in trauma only group on PID 3 was 0.66% (0.52%, 0.81%), which was significantly higher than 0.09% (0.04%, 0.14%) in the epidermal cells of the normal skin tissue of mice in normal control group (Z=4.31, P<0.01). The percentages of Vγ4 T cells in the epidermal cells of the skin tissue around the wound of mice in rapamycin+trauma group and trauma+CCL20 inhibitor group on PID 3 were 0.25% (0.16%, 0.37%) and 0.24% (0.17%, 0.35%), respectively, which were significantly lower than that in trauma only group (with Z values of 2.27 and 2.25, respectively, P<0.05). The mRNA expression level of IL-22 of cells in Vγ4 T cell group was significantly higher than that in Vγ3 T cell group, γδ negative cell group, and melanoma cell control group (with Z values of 2.96, 2.45, and 3.41, respectively, P<0.05 or P<0.01). Compared with that in wild-type control group, the percentage of wound area of mice in rapamycin control group increased significantly on PID 1-6 (P<0.01), the percentage of wound area of mice in Vγ4 T cell+IL-22 inhibitor group increased significantly on PID 1 and PID 3-6 (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Compared with that in rapamycin control group, the percentage of wound area of mice in Vγ4 T cell only group decreased significantly on PID 1-6 (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Compared with that in Vγ4 T cell only group, the percentage of wound area of mice in Vγ4 T cell+IL-22 inhibitor group increased significantly on PID 3-6 (P<0.05 or P<0.01). On PID 3, compared with those in wild-type group, the expression levels of IL-22 protein and mRNA (with t values of -7.82 and -5.04, respectively, P<0.01) and CCL20 protein and mRNA (with t values of -7.12 and -5.73, respectively, P<0.01) were decreased significantly in the peri-wound epidermis tissue of mice in rapamycin group. After being cultured for 24 hours, the expression levels of IL-22 protein and mRNA in Vγ4 T cells in rapamycin group were significantly lower than those in normal control group (with t values of -7.75 and -6.04, respectively, P<0.01). Conclusions: In mice with full-thickness skin defects, rapamycin may impair the CCL20 chemotactic system by inhibiting the expression of CCL20, leading to a decrease in the recruitment of Vγ4 T cells to the epidermis, and at the same time inhibit the secretion of IL-22 by Vγ4 T cells, thereby slowing the wound healing rate.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the applicability of three different kinds of noise occupational health risk assessment methods to the occupational health risk assessment of noise exposed positions in an automobile foundry enterprise. Methods: In July 2020, the occupational-health risk assessment of noise-exposed positions was conducted by using the Guidelines for risk management of occupational noise hazard (guideline method) , the International Commission on Mining and Metals Guidelines for Occupational Health Risk Assessment (ICMM) method and the Occupational-health risk index method (index method) respectively, and the results were analyzed and compared. Results: Through the occupational health field investigation, the noise exposure level of the enterprise's main workstations was between 80.3 and 94.8 dB (A) , among which the noise of the posts of shaking-sand, cleaning and modeling was greater than 85 dB (A) ; The noise risk of each position was evaluated by the three methods, and the adjustment risk level was between 2 and 5 assessed using the guideline method, between 2 and 3 assessed using the index method, and 5 evaluated using the ICMM model. Conclusion: Each of the three risk assessment methods has its own advantages and disadvantages. The ICMM model has a large difference in value assignment, and values in the results are larger than expected. The evaluation results of the guideline method and the index method are consistent in some positions, there is certain subjectivity in the evaluation using the index method, and the guideline method is more objective.

Effects of maternal folate and vitamin B12 on gestational diabetes mellitus: a dose-response meta-analysis of observational studies. Eur J Clin Nutr 2022; 76:1502-1512. Abstract
To comprehensively estimate the association of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) risk with maternal red blood cell (RBC) folate, plasma/serum folate, dose and duration of folic acid supplement (FAS) intake and vitamin B12 separately. PubMed, Web of science, CNKI, and Wanfang Databases were searched through March 26, 2021. We synthesized data using random-effects model meta-analysis in Stata 12.0. Sensitivity, subgroup and dose-response analyses were also performed. The certainty of evidence was evaluated using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluations (GRADE). Twenty six datasets from thirteen eligible observational studies were included in the study. We found a significant increase of GDM risk with the highest versus lowest category of RBC folate (OR = 1.96, 95% CI: 1.48-2.61, I2 = 0.0%, moderate-certainty evidence) and plasma/serum folate (OR = 1.23, 1.02-1.48, I2 = 57.8%, low-certainty evidence). The dose-response analysis revealed that each 200 ng/ml increase in RBC folate was significantly associated with 8% higher GDM risk. No significant association between dose of FAS intake and GDM risk was found with very low cetainty. Meanwhile, longer duration (≥3 months) of FAS conferred 56% significant higher GDM risk (OR = 1.56, 1.02-2.39, very low certainty evidence). No significant association of GDM risk with highest plasma/serum B12 was observed compared to lowest B12 (OR = 0.77, 0.58-1.02, very low-certainty evidence). Moderate-certainty evidence suggests that higher RBC folate appears to significantly increase GDM risk. Higher plasma/serum folate may increase GDM risk but with low certainty. Further well-designed trials or prospective studies are needed.

Abstract
Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) catalyzing the conversion of tryptophan (Trp) to kynurenine (Kyn) in kynurenine pathway (KP) is involved in the immunosuppression in pancreatic cancer (PC), but the value of IDO1 as an independent prognostic marker for PC is uncertain. Moreover, the correlation between tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase (TDO), an isozyme of IDO1, and PC is largely unknown. Using TCGA database, the correlation between IDO1 and/or TDO expression and PC patients' survival was analyzed. The expressions of IDO1 and TDO in PC cells and PC mice were examined. The effects of IDO1, TDO or dual inhibition on IDO1 and TDO effector pathway (Aryl hydrocarbon receptor, AhR) and on migration and invasion of PC cells were investigated. The block effect of IDO1/TDO dual inhibitor RY103 on KP was evaluated. The preclinical efficacy of RY103 and its immunomodulatory effect on KPIC orthotopic PC mice and Pan02 tumor-bearing mice were explored. Results showed that IDO1/TDO co-expression is an independent prognostic marker for PC. RY103 can significantly block KP and target Kyn-AhR pathway to blunt the migration and invasion of PC cells, exhibit preclinical efficacy and ameliorate IDO1/TDO-mediated immunosuppression in PC mice.

Abstract
Human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC) are considered promising sources of pancreatic islet organoids to treat diabetes. Due to that epigenetic memory predisposes iPSCs to enhanced differentiation into the parental cell type, we sought to generate iPSC lines from islet cells isolated from healthy adult pancreata. Islet cells were reprogrammed with CytoTune-iPS 2.0 Sendai Reprogramming Kit, where the generated iPSCs showed normal karyotype, expression of pluripotency associated markers and in vivoteratoma formation. This cell line will be a valuable resource for drug screening, and potential source for high-efficient generation of insulin-producing islets for treating diabetes.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the characteristics of clinical distribution and change of aeroallergens in children with allergic diseases from 2015 to 2020. Methods: Children who visited Capital Institute of Pediatrics affiliated Children's Hospital, suspected of allergic diseases and received serum aeroallergens specific immunoglobulin E (sIgE) test were retrospectively enrolled (1 to 14 years old). sIgE was detected by Phadia1000 system with radioallergosorbent test fluorescent enzyme-linked immunoassay. The characteristics and change of the aeroallergens among the 6 years was analyzed. Enumeration data were expressed by percentage and categorical variables were compared by the independent samples t-test and Pearson χ2 test. Results: In total 4 608 tests (4 575 patients) of children were enrolled, the average age was (5.4±2.9) years old, with the median age of 5.0 years old. 3 176 were boys (68.9%), and 1 432 were girls (31.1%). 4 294 children were from the north of China (93.2%), 295 children were from the south of China (6.4%), and 19 children were from unknown regions (0.4%). In total the most common aeroallergen was mold mixture (1 956/4 457 tests, 43.9%) and Alternaria alternata (276/630 tests, 43.8%), followed by Artemisia (300/889 tests, 33.7%), Humulus scandens (12/38 tests, 31.6%) and grass mixture (909/2 874 tests, 31.6%). Among the 6 years, mold, grass pollen and tree pollen sensitization increased, and mold [38/130 (29.2%) vs 1 574/3 233 (48.7%)], grass pollen [11/77 (14.3%) vs 1 069/3 072 (34.8%)] increased significantly (χ2 was 18.953 and 49.559, respectively, P=0.000). Positive rate of tree pollen increased [1/10 (10.0%) vs 516/2 122 (24.3%)], but did not have statistical significance (χ²=1.111, P=0.292). Dust mite [36/146 (24.7%) vs 321/1 408 (22.8%)] and hair of pets [7/33 (21.2%) vs 321/1 408 (17.1%)] sensitization didn't change greatly (χ2 =0.258, P =0.611; χ2 =0.379, P =0.538). In 2015, the most common aeroallergens was mold (38/130, 29.2%), followed by dust mite (36/146, 24.7%), while in 2020, the most common aeroallergens was still mold (1 574/3 233, 48.7%), with grass pollen (1 069/3 072, 34.8%) and tree pollen (516/2 122, 24.3%) ranked after. A feasibility study of modified self-efficacy for the improvement of adverse emotions and quality of life in traumatic fracture patients. Am J Transl Res 2021; 13:6507-6515. [PMID: 34306391 PMCID: PMC8290795] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 11/03/2020] [Accepted: 02/01/2021] [Indexed: 06/13/2023]
Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the changes in the adverse psychologies and psychological coping at the late stage of self-efficacy intervention in traumatic fracture patients. METHODS A total of 80 traumatic fracture patients admitted to our hospital were recruited as the study cohort and randomly divided into two groups. The control group (n=40) underwent conventional post-fracture nursing, and the study group (n=40) underwent self-efficacy intervention combined with conventional post-fracture nursing. After the intervention, the changes in the anxiety and depression, self-efficacy, quality of life, and the psychological coping scores were assessed and compared between the two groups. Finally, the correlations among the self-efficacy, adverse emotions, and psychological coping scores were analyzed. RESULTS Before the intervention, there was no marked difference in the anxiety and depression, self-efficacy, life satisfaction, and psychological coping scale scores between the two groups (P > 0.05). At 1, 3, and 6 months after the intervention, the study group had remarkably lower hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS) scores and significantly higher self-efficacy, quality of life and psychological coping scale scores than the control group (P < 0.05). The correlation analysis showed that the general self-efficacy scale (GSES) scores were negatively correlated with the self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and the self-rating depression scale (SDS) scores (r=-0.8623, r=-0.6895, P < 0.05) and were positively correlated with the psychological coping scale scores (r=0.7196, P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Self-efficacy intervention can markedly improve the adverse emotions and the self-efficacy and quality of life scores in traumatic fracture patients. The patients' self-efficacy is significantly positively correlated with the psychological coping scores. Therefore, self-efficacy intervention can be implemented to improve the traumatic coping abilities of traumatic fracture patients.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical, cardiac imaging characteristics and prognosis of patients with primary cardiac angiosarcoma. Methods: The clinical data of 14 patients hospitalized with primary cardiac angiosarcoma from January 2001 to December 2017 in Peking Union Medical College Hospital were collected and analyzed. Metastatic cardiac angiosarcoma was not included in this study. Patients were followed up post discharge per telephone call or clinical visit. Results: Of the 14 patients, 8 were males and 6 were females, average age was 48 years. The main clinical symptoms were shortness of breath (8/14), hemoptysis (6/14), fever (5/14), chest pain (4/14) and cough (3/14). Imaging examinations showed that the tumors of 8 patients were located in the right heart and 6 in the pericardial cavity. Tumors in the right heart often infiltrate the atrial wall and cause pericardial effusion (7/8). Tumors in the pericardium were characterized by recurrent bloody pericardial effusion (6/6), prone to progressive constrictive pericarditis (3/6), pericardial fluid cytology was often negative (6/6). MRI showed heterogeneous high signal intensity (cauliflower aspect) on T2-weighted image and heterogeneous enhancement with a"sunray" aspect at the perfusion study. At the time of diagnosis, 8 patients developed lung or adrenal metastasis (8/14). The median survival was only 305 days. Conclusions: Primary cardiac angiosarcoma is a rare disease with non-specific clinical manifestation and poor prognosis. Imaging examinations may help diagnosis. The high invasiveness and the easy-to-metastasis feature of the tumor contribute to the poor prognosis of cardiac angiosarcoma.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the trend of premature death of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Wuxi from 2008 to 2018 and evaluate the influence of premature mortality probability caused by four main NCDs on life expectancy. Methods: Based on the mortality data collected by Wuxi Mortality Registration System and the population data collected by Wuxi Public Security Bureau during 2008-2018, this study analyzes the trend of the probability of premature death on malignant tumors, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes. The impact on life expectancy was analyzed by using the methods of abridged life table, Joinpoint regression, and life expectancy contribution decomposition. Results: From 2008 to 2018, the total probability of premature death of four main NCDs in Wuxi were declined consistently from 11.25% to 9.25% (AAPC = -2.0%, 95%CI: -2.6--1.5), higher in female (from 7.74% to 5.91%) than that in male (from 14.49% to 12.51%). The Wuxi resident's life expectancy increased by 1.86 years (from 78.66 to 80.52 years), in males and 1.26 years (from 83.85 to 85.11 years) in females, respectively. The decline of premature death of malignant tumors, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and chronic respiratory system diseases had a positive contribution to life expectancy, which contributed 0.34 years (23.90%), 0.15 years (10.50%), and 0.03 years (2.36%) to the life expectancy growth, respectively. Among which, premature death of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases in men aged 40-55y had a negative contribution to life expectancy (-0.04 years). The probability of premature death of males with diabetes was on the rise (AAPC = 7.1%, 95%CI: 2.8-11.6), which negatively contributed to life expectancy for both males and females, reducing life expectancy by 0.03 years (-2.14%) in Wuxi. Conclusion: The premature death probability of four main NCDs in Wuxi declined consistently from 2008 to 2018, which played a positive role in the growth of life expectancy. Compared with females, males had a higher premature death probability and a slower rate of decline. More intervention and health management of premature male death on cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and diabetes should be conducted to improve life expectancy further.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the protective effect of Colgalt2 gene deletion on acute liver injury induced by acetaminophen (APAP) in mice. Methods: Colgalt2(+/+) wild-type control mice and Colgalt2(-/-) mice (all C57BL/6J strains) were selected as the research subject. APAP solution was injected intraperitoneally to establish a mouse model of acute liver injury. The mouse were divided into four groups: Colgalt2(+/+) wild-type control group, Colgalt2(+/+) wild-type drug group (APAP 500 mg/kg), Colgalt2(-/-) control group, and Colgalt2(-/-) drug group (APAP 500 mg/kg). The survival rate was measured to plot survival curve. Liver function was evaluated by detecting serum ALT and AST levels. Liver histopathological changes were observed by HE staining to evaluate the condition of liver injury. Western blot was used to detect protein c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK)-related liver injury. Results: Compared with Colgalt2(+/+) mice, the survival rate was significantly increased after giving APAP to Colgalt2(-/-) mice (86.7% vs. 40%), and liver cell necrosis and inflammatory cell infiltrates of Colgalt2(+/+) mice were milder. Serum ALT, and AST level was significantly decreased [ALT: (5 291.9 ± 1 016.34) U/L vs. (1 616.9 ± 330.65) U/L, P = 0.000; AST: (4 978.0 ± 1 028.43) U/L vs. (1 851.0 ± 437.55) U/L, P = 0.000]. The expression level of JNK was significantly decreased in liver tissue. Conclusion: Colgalt2 gene deletion has a protective effect on acute liver injury induced by acetaminophen (APAP) in mice. Therefore, Colgalt2 may be a potential therapeutic option for acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the relationship between folic acid supplementation and the risk of preeclampsia (PE). Methods: A total of 9 048 pregnant women were selected from the First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University in Taiyuan from March 2012 to September 2016. Among them, 882 pregnant women with PE were divided into case group, and 8 166 pregnant women without PE were divided into control group. Information on demographic characteristics, folic acid supplementation, maternal complications, and other factors were collected by face-to-face interviews after child birth in the hospital. Unconditional logistic regression analyses were used to investigate the relationship between folic acid supplementation and the risk of PE and the effects of pre-pregnancy BMI on the relationship of folic acid supplementation with the risk of PE. Results: Compared with nonusers, folic acid supplement users had reduced risk of PE (OR=0.79, 95%CI: 0.64-0.96). Folic acid supplementation before and during pregnancy were negatively related with the risk of PE (OR=0.63, 95%CI: 0.49-0.81). Pregnant women who used folic acid tablets only or used both folic acid tablets and multivitamin containing folic acid had reduced risk of PE (OR=0.81, 95%CI: 0.66-0.99; OR=0.64, 95%CI: 0.49-0.85). No significant relationship was observed in the multivitamin group. Supplemental folic acid doses of <400, 400, and >400 μg/d were related with reduced risk of PE (OR=0.62, 95%CI: 0.42-0.91; OR=0.81, 95%CI: 0.66-0.99; OR=0.68, 95%CI: 0.49-0.94). After stratified by pre-pregnancy BMI, pregnant women who used folic acid supplementation, those with pre-pregnancy BMI<24.0 kg/m(2) had reduced risk of PE (OR=0.75, 95%CI: 0.59-0.96). However, no significant relationship was observed in women with pre-pregnancy BMI≥24.0 kg/m(2). Conclusions: Folic acid supplementation before and during pregnancy were related with reduced risk of PE. Pre-pregnancy BMI might affect the relationship between folic acid supplementation and the risk of PE. Appropriate folic acid supplementation should be recommend for women with different pre-pregnancy BMI.

Abstract
Inhibitors of indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) and tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase (TDO) are potential drugs for the treatment of tumor and neurological diseases. A variety of bioassays have been developed to evaluate IDO1/TDO (IDO1 and/or TDO) inhibitors, with uncertainty regarding how the differences in the assay methods or protocols may influence the assay outcomes. The enzymatic assays of IDO1/TDO are usually performed with NFK assay and Kyn adduct assay while the cellular assays of IDO1 are carried out with Hela assay and HEK293 assay. The present study focused on the comparison of the most common bioassays of IDO1/TDO. In addition, the effects of major factors of bioassays such as reaction time and culture medium on the assay outcomes were evaluated. The study will provide reference for the researchers to select IDO1/TDO inhibitors with bioassays, and promote the development of IDO1/TDO inhibitors.

Abstract
Carbon steel is strong primarily because of carbides with the most well-known one being θ-Fe3C type cementite. However, the formation mechanism of cementite remains unclear. In this study, a new metastable carbide formation mechanism was proposed as ω-Fe3C → ω′-Fe3C → θ′-Fe3C based on the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observation. Results shown that in quenched high-carbon binary alloys, hexagonal ω-Fe3C fine particles are distributed in the martensite twinning boundary alone, while two metastable carbides (ω′ and θ′) coexist in the quenched pearlite. These two carbides both possess orthorhombic crystal structure with different lattice parameters (aθ′ = aω′ = aω = \documentclass[12pt]{minimal}

Thus, the θ′ unit cell contains 12 Fe atoms and 4 C atoms, which in turn matches the composition and atomic number of the θ-Fe3C cementite unit cell. The proposed theory in combination with experimental results gives a new insight into the carbide formation mechanism in Fe-C martensite.

Abstract
The intensive and extensive application of imidacloprid in agriculture has resulted in water pollution and risks to aquatic invertebrates. However, pure bacteria remediation of imidacloprid in surface water environments has not been studied. Here, we isolated an imidacloprid-degrading bacterium from a water environment, examined its imidacloprid degradation in pure culture and surface water, sequenced its genome, and compared its Clusters of Orthologous Groups (COG) protein categorization with that for another imidacloprid-degrading bacterium. The isolate was an obligate oligotrophic bacterium, Hymenobacter latericoloratus CGMCC 16346, which degraded imidacloprid via hydroxylation by co-metabolism in pure culture. Resting cells degraded 64.4% of 100 mg/L imidacloprid in 6 days in the presence of co-substrate maltose, and growing culture degraded 40.8% of imidacloprid in 10 days. H. latericoloratus CGMCC 16346 degraded imidacloprid in surface water without co-substrate supplementation and retained imidacloprid-degrading activity after 30 days. The half-life of imidacloprid in surface water was decreased from 173.3 days in the control to 57.8 days by CGMCC 16346 inoculation. Genome sequencing and COG analysis indicated that carbohydrate metabolism and transport, cell wall/membrane biogenesis, and defense mechanisms are enriched in H. latericoloratus CGMCC 16346 compared with the copiotrophic imidacloprid-degrading Pseudoxanthomonas indica CGMCC 6648, indicating that H. latericoloratus CGMCC 16346 is adapted to live in oligotrophic water environments and biofilms. H. latericoloratus CGMCC 16346 is a promising bioremediation agent for elimination of imidacloprid contamination from surface water.

Abstract
Three novel polyoxometalate (POM) clusters of K10Na10[Dy3(H2O)6Ni(H2O)(W3O11)(B-α-SbW9O33)3]·(H2O)45 (1), (NH4)5K4Na8[Dy3(H2O)6SbV(H2O)(W3O11)(B-α-SbW9O33)3]·(H2O)50 (2), and (NH4)9Na[Ni2(H2O)6(WO2)2(B-β-SbW9O33)2]·(H2O)24 (3) were successfully obtained using the same precursor under different ionic strength conditions. Structural analysis showed that compounds 1-3 possess discrepant structural characteristics in 1 M KCl, 1 M NH4Cl, and saturated NH4Cl, respectively. Among them, 2 is the first reported lanthanide cluster including both Sb3+ and Sb5+ in POM derivatives. Furthermore, the analysis of ac magnetic data proved that 1 and 2 embodied dramatic field-induced slow magnetic relaxation, and the effective barrier of 2 was estimated as Ueff/KB = 21.10 K based on the Orbach process. It was found that the structure and magnetic properties of POM materials can be regulated using an effective and satisfactory ionic strength-controlled strategy.

Selenium nanoparticles alleviate hyperlipidemia and vascular injury in ApoE-deficient mice by regulating cholesterol metabolism and reducing oxidative stress. Metallomics 2019; 12:204-217. Abstract
Atherosclerosis and related cardiovascular diseases represent the greatest threats to human health worldwide. This study was designed to investigate the anti-atherosclerotic activity of selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) in apolipoprotein E deficient (ApoE-/-) mice fed a high-cholesterol, high-fat diet. The results demonstrated that animals either treated with SeNPs (50 μg Se per kg per day) or with atorvastatin (10 mg per kg per day) alone showed significant relief of vascular injury after 8 weeks of treatment. SeNPs could obviously decrease the level of serum total cholesterol, triglyceride and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, whereas increase serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. At the same time, SeNPs regulated the expression levels of key genes associated with cholesterol metabolism in the liver. Furthermore, SeNPs significantly reduced the lipid peroxidation level, but increased the NO level and the activities of glutathione peroxidase (GPx), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase in the serum and liver. SeNPs also increased the expression levels of antioxidant selenoenzymes or selenoproteins in the liver. In addition, SeNPs could alleviate H2O2-induced cytotoxicity and oxidative stress by upregulating the activities of SOD and GPx in endothelial cells cultured in vitro. These results suggested that SeNPs could significantly alleviate hyperlipidemia and vascular injury in ApoE-/- mice, possibly by regulating cholesterol metabolism and reducing oxidative stress through antioxidant selenoenzymes/selenoproteins. SeNPs might be a potential candidate for the prevention of atherosclerosis.

Abstract
Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1), which catalyzes the initial and rate-limiting step of the kynurenine pathway of tryptophan catabolism, has emerged as a key target in cancer immunotherapy because of its role in enabling cancers to evade the immune system. Tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase (TDO) and indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 2 (IDO2) catalyze the same reaction and play a potential role in cancer immunotherapy. Starting from our previously discovered tryptanthrin IDO1 inhibitor scaffold, we synthesized novel N-benzyl/aryl substituted tryptanthrin derivatives and evaluated their inhibitory efficacy on IDO1, TDO, and IDO2. Most compounds showed similar high inhibitory activities on both IDO1 and TDO, which were significantly superior over that of IDO2 with magnitude difference. We showed that N-benzyl/aryl substituted tryptanthrin directly interacted with IDO1, TDO, and IDO2, significantly augmented the proliferation of T cells in vitro, blocked the kynurenine pathway, and suppressed tumor growth when administered to LLC and H22 tumor-bearing mice.

Smart pH-Sensitive Nanogels for Enhancing Synergistic Anticancer Effects of Integrin α vβ 3 Specific Apoptotic Peptide and Therapeutic Nitric Oxide. Abstract
Apoptotic peptide (kla), which can trigger the mitochondria-mediated apoptotic programmed cell death, has been widely recognized as a potential anticancer agent. However, its therapeutic potential has been significantly impaired by its poor biostability, lack of tumor specificity, and particularly low cellular uptake. Herein, a linear peptide Arg-Trp-d-Arg-Asn-Arg (RWrNR) was identified as an integrin αvβ3 specific ligand with a nanomolar dissociation constant (Kd = 0.95 nM), which can greatly improve kla antitumor activity (IC50 = 8.81 μM) by improving its cellular uptake, compared to the classic integrin-recognition motif c-RGDyK (IC50 = 37.96 μM). Particularly, the RWrNR-kla conjugate can be entrapped in acidic sensitive nanogels (RK/Parg/CMCS-NGs), composed of poly-l-arginine (Parg) and carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS, pI = 6.8), which can not only carry out controlled release of RWrNR-kla in response to the tumor acidic microenvironment, and consequently enhance its tumor specificity and cell internalization, but also trigger tumor-associated macrophages to generate nitric oxide, leading to enhanced synergistic anticancer efficacy. Importantly, RK/Parg/CMCS-NGs have been proven to effectively activate the apoptosis signaling pathway in vivo and significantly inhibit tumor growth with minimal adverse effects. To summarize, RK/Parg/CMCS-NGs are a promising apoptotic peptide-based therapeutics with enhanced tumor accumulation, cytosolic delivery, and synergistic anticancer effects, thereby holding great potential for the treatment of malignant tumors.

Cooperation between galanin and insulin in facilitating glucose transporter 4 translocation in adipose cells of diabetic rats. J BIOL REG HOMEOS AG 2019; 33:1327-1335. Abstract
The glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) translocation is a vital link of insulin-induced glucose uptake in adipose tissue and skeletal muscle. It is an important topic in anti-diabetic research to explore novel agents to facilitate the role of insulin. The aim of this study was to verify the hypothesis that neuropeptide galanin may enhance insulin-induced GLUT4 translocation to increase glucose uptake in adipose tissue of type 2 diabetic models. Insulin and/or galanin were injected respectively or cooperatively into type 2 diabetic rats once a day for fifteen days. The results showed that administration of galanin significantly enhanced insulin-induced GLUT4 and vesicle-associated membrane protein 2 (VAMP2) translocation, Akt phosphorylation and glucose uptake, but not GLUT4 mRNA and protein expression levels in adipose cells. The beneficial roles of galanin on insulin-induced events may be blocked by MK-2206, an Akt inhibitor, indicating that the Akt phosphorylation is essential for promoting impact of galanin on the insulin-induced events. These results suggest that galanin may benefit insulin-induced GLUT4 and VAMP2 translocation, and subsequent glucose uptake via the activated Akt-VAMP2-GLUT4 pathway in adipose cells. These findings deepen our understanding of the anti-diabetic effect of galanin and its mechanism.

Abstract
Objective:The aim of this study is to assess the application value of maximum Young's modulus of shear wave elastography in combination with Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System set by the American College of Radiology in the diagnosis of benign and malignant thyroid nodules. Method:A retrospective analysis of 113 thyroid nodules with ultrasonographic imaging data was carried out. All nodules were subjected to SWE and conventional ultrasonography, and Emax was recorded and classified according to the 2017 ACR TI-RADS. With pathology as the gold standard, the ROC curve was drawn and the best diagnostic cut-off was selected for comparing their diagnostic performance. Result:Of the 113 thyroid nodules, 51 were benign and 62 were malignant. Best cut-off point for diagnosing malignant by SWE was Emax>40 kPa. And at that point, the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of the average value of it were 74.2%, 76.5% and 75.2 %. Best cut-off point for diagnosing malignant by ACR TI-RADS was>TR4. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of the average value of it were 80.6%, 78.4% and 79.6%. The sensitivity of the combination of the two examinations was significantly higher than that of simple application of each of them, while there was no significant difference in the specificity and accuracy between them. Conclusion:The SWE and ACR TI-RADS classification systems have important clinical value in identifying the benign and malignant thyroid nodules. The combination of the two methods can improve the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of the diagnosis.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the relations between dietary intake during pregnancy and the incidence of their babies with small for gestational age (SGA). Methods: Data on demographics, dietary intake of protein, fat, and carbohydrates of the pregnant mothers during the first, second and third trimester, were collected. Information related to birth weight and gestational age of the infants were also gathered. A total of 8 102 women, who delivered their babies at the First Affiliated Hospital of Shanxi Medical University from March 2012 to September 2016, were enrolled in this project. Among them, 961 mothers had infants with SGA but the other 7 141 of them having normal infants. Unconditional logistic regression model was used to analyze the effect of dietary nutrient intake on SGA the first, second and third trimester. Results: We found that low dietary intake of protein during the first trimester and following trimesters during pregnancy were positively associated with higher risk of SGA (OR=1.534, 95%CI: 1.217-1.934; OR=1.268, 95%CI: 1.005-1.599; OR=1.310, 95%CI: 1.036-1.655). When adjusting for maternal pre-pregnancy BMI, we found that when mothers were with a pre-pregnancy BMI less than 18.5 or with low maternal intake of protein during the first trimester, positive association with higher risk of SGA (OR=1.872, 95%CI: 1.033-3.395; OR=1.754, 95%CI: 1.125-2.734), was noticed. However, for mothers with a pre-pregnancy BMI between 18.5 and 24.0 or with low protein intake during the first trimester, significant association with higher risk of SGA (OR=1.465, 95%CI: 1.089-1.972) was found. Conclusions: Through our observation, maternal dietary intake during pregnancy seemed to be associated with the risk of SGA but the effects of dietary intake were different, according to the BMI of pre-pregnancy population. Early pregnancy appeares as the key period for dietary intake which may influence the SGA.

Novel Gold Nanorod-Based HR1 Peptide Inhibitor for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus. ACS APPLIED MATERIALS & INTERFACES 2019; 11:19799-19807. Abstract
Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) causes a severe acute respiratory syndrome-like illness with high pathogenicity and mortality due to the lack of effective therapeutics. Currently, only few antiviral agents are available for the treatment of MERS, but their effects have been greatly impaired by low antiviral activity, poor metabolic stability, and serious adverse effects. Therefore, the development of effective treatment for MERS is urgently needed. In this study, a series of heptad repeat 1 (HR1) peptide inhibitors have been developed to inhibit HR1/HR2-mediated membrane fusion between MERS-CoV and host cells, which is the major pathway of MERS-CoV-induced host infections. Particularly, peptide pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) exhibits potent inhibitory activity with IC50 of 1.171 μM, and its inhibitory effects can be further increased to 10-fold by forming a gold nanorod complex (PIH-AuNRs). In addition, PIH-AuNRs display enhanced metabolic stability and biocompatibility in vitro and in vivo and, therefore, effectively prevent MERS-CoV-associated membrane fusion. In summary, PIH-AuNRs represent a novel class of antiviral agents and have a great potential in treating MERS in the clinic.
