Abstract
BACKGROUND Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disabling neurological disease that causes cognitive impairment and mental problems that occur in all MS phenotypes but are most common in patients with secondary progressive MS. Various degrees of cognitive impairment and mental health concerns are common among patients with MS (PwMS). Virtual reality (VR)-based rehabilitation is an innovative approach aimed at enhancing cognitive function and mood in PwMS. This study aims to perform a meta-analysis to assess the effects of VR-based rehabilitation on cognitive function and mood in PwMS. METHODS Using PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro), a thorough database search was performed to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) examining the effects of VR on PwMS. Trials published until October 31, 2023, that satisfied our predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria were included. Data were extracted, literature was examined, and the methodological quality of the included trials was assessed. StataSE version 16 was used for the meta-analysis. RESULTS Our meta-analysis included 461 patients from 10 RCTs. PRIMARY OUTCOMES The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) (weighted mean difference [WMD]=1.93, 95 % confidence interval [CI]=0.51-3.36, P = 0.008, I² = 75.4 %) the Spatial Recall Test (SPART) (WMD=3.57, 95 % CI=1.65-5.50, P < 0.001, I² = 0 %), immediate recall (standard mean difference [SMD]=0.37, 95 % CI=0.10-0.64, P = 0.007, I² = 0 %) and delayed recall ([SMD]=0.30, 95 % CI=0.06-0.54, P = 0.013, I² = 35.4 %) showed improvements in comparison to the control group in terms of global cognitive function immediate recall, delayed recall, and visuospatial abilities. SECONDARY OUTCOMES Compared to the control group, anxiety improved (standard mean difference [SMD]=0.36, 95 % CI=0.10-0.62, P = 0.007, I² = 43.1 %). However, there were no significant differences in processing speed, attention, working memory or depression. CONCLUSIONS This systematic review provides valuable evidence for improving cognitive function and mood in PwMS through VR-based rehabilitation. In the future, VR-based rehabilitation may be a potential method to treat cognitive function and emotional symptoms of MS. SYSTEMATIC REVIEW REGISTRATION PROSPERO; identifier: CRD42023474467.

Abstract
The tumor microenvironment (TME) is a heterogeneous ecosystem containing cancer cells, immune cells, stromal cells, cytokines, and chemokines which together govern tumor progression and response to immunotherapies. Methyltransferase-like 3 (METTL3), a core catalytic subunit for RNA N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification, plays a crucial role in regulating various physiological and pathological processes. Whether and how METTL3 regulates the TME and anti-tumor immunity in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remain poorly understood. Here, we report that METTL3 elevates expression of pro-tumorigenic chemokines including CXCL1, CXCL5, and CCL20, and destabilizes PD-L1 mRNA in an m6A-dependent manner, thereby shaping a non-inflamed TME. Thus, inhibiting METTL3 reprograms a more inflamed TME that renders anti-PD-1 therapy more effective in several murine lung tumor models. Clinically, NSCLC patients who exhibit low-METTL3 expression have a better prognosis when receiving anti-PD-1 therapy. Collectively, our study highlights targeting METTL3 as a promising strategy to improve immunotherapy in NSCLC patients.

Abstract
Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent type of regulated cell death resulting from extensive lipid peroxidation and plays a critical role in various physiological and pathological processes. However, the regulatory mechanisms for ferroptosis sensitivity remain incompletely understood. Here, we report that homozygous deletion of Usp8 (ubiquitin-specific protease 8) in intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) leads to architectural changes in the colonic epithelium and shortens mouse lifespan accompanied by increased IEC death and signs of lipid peroxidation. However, mice with heterozygous deletion of Usp8 in IECs display normal phenotype and become resistant to azoxymethane/dextran sodium sulfate-induced colorectal tumorigenesis. Mechanistically, USP8 interacts with and deubiquitinates glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), leading to GPX4 stabilization. Thus, USP8 inhibition destabilizes GPX4 and sensitizes cancer cells to ferroptosis in vitro. Notably, USP8 inhibition in combination with ferroptosis inducers retards tumor growth and enhances CD8+ T cell infiltration, which potentiates tumor response to anti-PD-1 immunotherapy in vivo. These findings uncover that USP8 counteracts ferroptosis by stabilizing GPX4 and highlight targeting USP8 as a potential therapeutic strategy to boost ferroptosis for enhancing cancer immunotherapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Selecting the time target for follow-up testing in lung cancer screening is challenging. We aim to devise dynamic, personalized lung cancer screening schema for patients with pulmonary nodules detected through low-dose computed tomography. METHODS We developed and validated dynamic models using data of pulmonary nodule patients (aged 55-74 years) from the National Lung Screening Trial. We predicted patient-specific risk profiles at baseline (R0) and updated the risk evaluation results in repeated screening rounds (R1 and R2). We used risk cutoffs to optimize time-dependent sensitivity at an early decision point (3 months) and time-dependent specificity at a late decision point (1 year). RESULTS In validation, area under receiver operating characteristic curve for predicting 12-month lung cancer onset was 0.867 (95 % confidence interval: 0.827-0.894) and 0.807 (0.765-0.948) at R0 and R1-R2, respectively. The personalized schema, compared with National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guideline and Lung-RADS, yielded lower rates of delayed diagnosis (1.7% vs. 1.7% vs. 6.9 %) and over-testing (4.9% vs. 5.6% vs. 5.6 %) at R0, and lower rates of delayed diagnosis (0.0% vs. 18.2% vs. 18.2 %) and over-testing (2.6% vs. 8.3% vs. 7.3 %) at R2. Earlier test recommendation among cancer patients was more frequent using the personalized schema (vs. NCCN: 29.8% vs. 20.9 %, p = 0.0065; vs. Lung-RADS: 33.2% vs. 22.8 %, p = 0.0025), especially for women, patients aged ≥65 years, and part-solid or non-solid nodules. CONCLUSIONS The personalized schema is easy-to-implement and more accurate compared with rule-based protocols. The results highlight value of personalized approaches in realizing efficient nodule management.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION In recent years, insulin eye drops have attracted increasing attention from researchers and ophthalmologists. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy and possible mechanism of action of insulin eye drops in diabetic mice with corneal wounds. METHODS A type 1 diabetes model was induced, and a corneal epithelial injury model of 2.5 mm was established. We used corneal fluorescein staining, hematoxylin-eosin (H-E) staining and the Cochet-Bonnet esthesiometer to examine the process of wound healing. Subsequently, the expression levels of Ki-67, IL-1β, β3-tubulin and neuropeptides, including substance P (SP) and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), were examined at 72 h after corneal injury. RESULTS Fluorescein staining demonstrated an acceleration of the recovery of corneal epithelial injury in diabetic mice compared with the saline treatment, which was further evidenced by the overexpression of Ki-67. Moreover, 72 h of insulin application attenuated the expression of inflammatory cytokines and neutrophil infiltration. Remarkably, the results demonstrated that topical insulin treatment enhanced the density of corneal epithelial nerves, as well as neuropeptide SP and CGRP release, in the healing cornea via immunofluorescence staining. CONCLUSIONS Our results indicated that insulin eye drops may accelerate corneal wound healing and decrease inflammatory responses in diabetic mice by promoting nerve regeneration and increasing levels of neuropeptides SP and CGRP.

Abstract
AIM Rev-erbα has been reported to regulate the healing of inflammatory lesions through its effect on the immune system in a variety of inflammatory disease. Moreover, the balance of macrophages polarization plays a crucial role in immune response and inflammatory progression. However, in refractory periapical periodontitis (RAP), the role of Rev-erbα in inflammatory response and bone resorption by regulating macrophage polarization remains unclarified. The aims of the present study were to investigate the expression of Rev-erbα in experimental RAP and to explore the relationship between Rev-erbα and macrophage polarization through the application of its pharmacological agonist SR9009 into the in vivo and in vitro experiments. METHODOLOGY Enterococcus faecalis-induced RAP models were established in SD rats. Histological staining and micro-computed tomography scanning were used to evaluate osteoclastogenesis and alveolar bone resorption. The expression of Rev-erbα and macrophage polarization were detected in the periapical tissues from rats by immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, and western blots. Furthermore, immunohistochemical staining and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay were performed to explore the relationship between Rev-erbα and inflammatory cytokines related to macrophage polarization. RESULT Compared to healthy periapical tissue, the expression of Rev-erbα was significantly down-regulated in macrophages from inflammatory periapical area, especially in Enterococcus faecalis-induced periapical lesions, with obvious type-1 macrophage (M1)-like dominance and the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. In addition, Rev-erbα activation by SR9009 could induce type-2 macrophage (M2)-like polarization in periapical tissue and THP1 cell line, followed by increased secretion of anti-inflammatory cytokines IL-10 and TGF-β. Furthermore, intracanal application of SR9009 reduced the lesion size and promoted the repair of RAP by decreasing the number of osteoclasts and enhancing the formation of mineralized tissue in periapical inflammatory lesions. CONCLUSIONS Rev-erbα played an essential role in the pathogenesis of RAP through its effect on macrophage polarization. Targeting Rev-erbα might be a promising and prospective therapy method for the prevention and management of RAP.

[Incidence of postoperative complications in Chinese patients with gastric or colorectal cancer based on a national, multicenter, prospective, cohort study]. Abstract
Objective: To investigate the incidence of postoperative complications in Chinese patients with gastric or colorectal cancer, and to evaluate the risk factors for postoperative complications. Methods: This was a national, multicenter, prospective, registry-based, cohort study of data obtained from the database of the Prevalence of Abdominal Complications After Gastro- enterological Surgery (PACAGE) study sponsored by the China Gastrointestinal Cancer Surgical Union. The PACAGE database prospectively collected general demographic characteristics, protocols for perioperative treatment, and variables associated with postoperative complications in patients treated for gastric or colorectal cancer in 20 medical centers from December 2018 to December 2020. The patients were grouped according to the presence or absence of postoperative complications. Postoperative complications were categorized and graded in accordance with the expert consensus on postoperative complications in gastrointestinal oncology surgery and Clavien-Dindo grading criteria. The incidence of postoperative complications of different grades are presented as bar charts. Independent risk factors for occurrence of postoperative complications were identified by multifactorial unconditional logistic regression. Results: The study cohort comprised 3926 patients with gastric or colorectal cancer, 657 (16.7%) of whom had a total of 876 postoperative complications. Serious complications (Grade III and above) occurred in 4.0% of patients (156/3926). The rate of Grade V complications was 0.2% (7/3926). The cohort included 2271 patients with gastric cancer with a postoperative complication rate of 18.1% (412/2271) and serious complication rate of 4.7% (106/2271); and 1655 with colorectal cancer, with a postoperative complication rate of 14.8% (245/1655) and serious complication rate of 3.0% (50/1655). The incidences of anastomotic leakage in patients with gastric and colorectal cancer were 3.3% (74/2271) and 3.4% (56/1655), respectively. Abdominal infection was the most frequently occurring complication, accounting for 28.7% (164/572) and 39.5% (120/304) of postoperative complications in patients with gastric and colorectal cancer, respectively. The most frequently occurring grade of postoperative complication was Grade II, accounting for 65.4% (374/572) and 56.6% (172/304) of complications in patients with gastric and colorectal cancers, respectively. Multifactorial analysis identified (1) the following independent risk factors for postoperative complications in patients in the gastric cancer group: preoperative comorbidities (OR=2.54, 95%CI: 1.51-4.28, P<0.001), neoadjuvant therapy (OR=1.42, 95%CI:1.06-1.89, P=0.020), high American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) scores (ASA score 2 points:OR=1.60, 95% CI: 1.23-2.07, P<0.001, ASA score ≥3 points:OR=0.43, 95% CI: 0.25-0.73, P=0.002), operative time >180 minutes (OR=1.81, 95% CI: 1.42-2.31, P<0.001), intraoperative bleeding >50 mL (OR=1.29,95%CI: 1.01-1.63, P=0.038), and distal gastrectomy compared with total gastrectomy (OR=0.65,95%CI: 0.51-0.83, P<0.001); and (2) the following independent risk factors for postoperative complications in patients in the colorectal cancer group: female (OR=0.60, 95%CI: 0.44-0.80, P<0.001), preoperative comorbidities (OR=2.73, 95%CI: 1.25-5.99, P=0.030), neoadjuvant therapy (OR=1.83, 95%CI:1.23-2.72, P=0.008), laparoscopic surgery (OR=0.47, 95%CI: 0.30-0.72, P=0.022), and abdominoperineal resection compared with low anterior resection (OR=2.74, 95%CI: 1.71-4.41, P<0.001). Conclusion: Postoperative complications associated with various types of infection were the most frequent complications in patients with gastric or colorectal cancer. Although the risk factors for postoperative complications differed between patients with gastric cancer and those with colorectal cancer, the presence of preoperative comorbidities, administration of neoadjuvant therapy, and extent of surgical resection, were the commonest factors associated with postoperative complications in patients of both categories.

Abstract
Inflammatory pain (IP) is one of the most prevalent and intractable human conditions, and it leads to progressive dysfunction and reduced quality of life. Additionally, IP is incredibly challenging to treat successfully with drugs or surgery. The development of IP is complex and multifactorial, and peripheral and central sensitization may influence chronicity and treatment resistance in IP. Understanding the mechanisms underlying IP is vital for developing novel therapies. Strong evidence suggests that exercise can be a first-line relief for patients with IP during rehabilitation. However, the mechanisms through which exercise improves IP remain unclear. Here, we reviewed the current animal experimental evidence for an exercise intervention in IP and proposed biological mechanisms for the effects of synaptic plasticity in the anterior cingulate cortex, endocannabinoids, spinal dorsal horn excitability balance, immune cell polarization balance, cytokines, and glial cells. This information will contribute to basic science and strengthen the scientific basis for exercise therapy prescriptions for IP in clinical practice.

Abstract
Climate dictates wildfire activity around the world. But East and Southeast Asia are an apparent exception as fire-activity variation there is unrelated to climatic variables. In subtropical China, fire activity decreased by 80% between 2003 and 2020 amid increased fire risks globally. Here, we assessed the fire regime, vegetation structure, fuel flammability and their interactions across subtropical Hubei, China. We show that tree basal area (TBA) and fuel flammability explained 60% of fire-frequency variance. Fire frequency and fuel flammability, in turn, explained 90% of TBA variance. These results reveal a novel system of scrubland-forest stabilized by vegetation-fire feedbacks. Frequent fires promote the persistence of derelict scrubland through positive vegetation-fire feedbacks; in forest, vegetation-fire feedbacks are negative and suppress fire. Thus, we attribute the decrease in wildfire activity to reforestation programs that concurrently increase forest coverage and foster negative vegetation-fire feedbacks that suppress wildfire.

Abstract
Background Freezing of gait (FOG) is a common and disabling phenomenon in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), but effective treatment approach remains inconclusive. Dysfunctional emotional factors play a key role in FOG. Since primary motor cortex (M1) connects with prefrontal areas via the frontal longitudinal system, where are responsible for emotional regulation, we hypothesized M1 may be a potential neuromodulation target for FOG therapy. The purpose of this study is to explore whether high-frequency rTMS over bilateral M1 could relieve FOG and emotional dysregulation in patients with PD. Methods This study is a single-center, randomized double-blind clinical trial. Forty-eight patients with PD and FOG from the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University were randomly assigned to receive 10 sessions of either active (N = 24) or sham (N = 24) 10 Hz rTMS over the bilateral M1. Patients were evaluated at baseline (T0), after the last session of treatment (T1) and 30 days after the last session (T2). The primary outcomes were Freezing of Gait Questionnaire (FOGQ) scores, with Timed Up and Go Test (TUG) time, Standing-Start 180° Turn (SS-180) time, SS-180 steps, United Parkinson Disease Rating Scales (UPDRS) III, Hamilton Depression scale (HAMD)-24 and Hamilton Anxiety scale (HAMA)-14 as secondary outcomes. Results Two patients in each group dropped out at T2 and no serious adverse events were reported by any subject. Two-way repeated ANOVAs revealed significant group × time interactions in FOGQ, TUG, SS-180 turn time, SS-180 turning steps, UPDRS III, HAMD-24 and HAMA-14. Post-hoc analyses showed that compared to T0, the active group exhibited remarkable improvements in FOGQ, TUG, SS-180 turn time, SS-180 turning steps, UPDRS III, HAMD-24 and HAMA-14 at T1 and T2. No significant improvement was found in the sham group. The Spearman correlation analysis revealed a significantly positive association between the changes in HAMD-24 and HAMA-14 scores and FOGQ scores at T1. Conclusion High-frequency rTMS over bilateral M1 can improve FOG and reduce depression and anxiety in patients with PD.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the effects of the immune responses mediated by topological structures of three-dimensional bioprinted scaffolds on hair follicle cycle in mice. Methods: The study was an experimental research. The alginate-gelatin composite hydrogels were printed into scaffolds using a three-dimensional bioprinter and named T45 scaffolds, T60 scaffolds, and T90 scaffolds according to the 3 topological structures of the scaffolds (the rotation angles of the printhead during printing were 45°, 60°, and 90°, respectively), and the morphology of the three scaffolds was observed after cross-linking by naked eyes. Nine 8-week-old female C57BL/6J mice were divided into T45 group, T60 group, and T90 group, according to the random number table, with three mice in each group, and the T45, T60, and T90 scaffolds were subcutaneously implanted on the back of mice, respectively. On post implantation day (PID) 7, the hair growth in the dorsal depilated area of mice was observed, the thickness of the fiber capsule around the scaffolds was observed by hematoxylin-eosin staining, and the expression levels of CD68, bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2), and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) protein in the tissue surrounding the scaffolds were observed by immunofluorescence staining. The samples of the above experiments were all 3. Results: The topological structures of the three scaffolds were all clear with high fidelity after cross-linking. On PID 7, the hair growth was obvious in the dorsal depilated area of mice in T45 group and T90 group, while hair growth was slow in the scaffold implantation area of mice in T60 group, which was significantly different from that of the unimplanted area. On PID 7, compared with (18±4) μm in T90 group, the thickness of both the fiber capsule around the scaffolds ((39±4) and (55±8) μm) of mice in T45 group and T60 group was significantly increased (P<0.05); the thickness of the fiber capsule around the scaffolds of mice in T60 group was also significantly increased compared with that in T45 group (P<0.05). On PID 7, the expression level of CD68 protein in the tissue surrounding the scaffolds of mice in T60 group was significantly higher than the levels in T45 group and T90 group (with both P values <0.05). The expression level of BMP-2 protein in the tissue surrounding the scaffolds of mice in T60 group was significantly higher than the levels in T45 group and T90 group (with both P values <0.05), and the expression level of BMP-2 protein in the tissue surrounding the scaffolds of mice in T45 group was significantly higher than that in T90 group (P<0.05). The expression level of TNF protein in the tissue surrounding the scaffolds of mice in T60 group was significantly lower than the levels in T45 group and T90 group (with both P values <0.05). Conclusions: Three-dimensional bioprinted scaffolds with different topological structures mediate different degrees of immune responses after being implanted in mice. A moderate immune response promotes hair growth in depilated area of mice, while an excessive immune response results inhibits the hair follicle entering into the anagen phase.

Abstract
Cartilage has a limited ability to repair itself, highlighting the urgent need for suitable materials for cartilage regeneration. Achieving a balance between cell survival environment and hydrogel crosslinking density is crucial for photosensitive cell-laden cartilage repair materials to achieve both high strength and good cell viability. Here, an interpenetrating hydrogel consisted of methacrylate gelatin (GelMA) and glycidyl methacrylate silk fibroin (SG) was introduced. Compared to GelMA hydrogel, GelMA/SG had desired mechanical properties, with achieving up to 5 times of compression modulus and 6 times of compression failure energy. Meanwhile, the chondrocytes inside GelMA/SG exhibited great viability which was over 90 %. GelMA/SG as a bioink had favorable printability for digital light processing (DLP) bioprinting. The mesh DLP-printed scaffolds with high precision were created and GelMA/SG had a better shape retention ability than GelMA. Moreover, GelMA/SG cell-laden scaffolds had high strength while chondrocytes proliferated significantly in vitro culture. They were implanted under the skin of nude mice to evaluate ectopic chondrogenesis in vivo. The GelMA/SG cell-laden scaffolds indicated little deformation and high expression of collagen type II and glycosaminoglycans, which was advantageous for cartilage regeneration. The scaffold and its fabrication strategy provide potential solutions for clinical cartilage repair problems in the future.

Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationship between glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor gene polymorphisms and susceptibility to early onset type 2 diabetes. Methods Samples from 316 type 2 diabetes patients with early onset type 2 diabetes (n = 137) and late-onset type 2 diabetes (n = 179) and 145 nondiabetic individuals were analyzed. Multiplex PCR combined with resequencing Hi-Reseq technology was used to detect single nucleotide polymorphisms of the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor gene, and the allele frequency, genotype distribution, and clinical parameters were analyzed between each diabetes subgroup and the control group. Results Sixteen single nucleotide polymorphisms were identified in the exonic region of the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor gene according to the minor allele frequency (MAF > 0.05) in the participants. Among these, the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor rs3765467 (G⟶A) mutation was statistically associated with early onset type 2 diabetes. Compared with that of the GG carriers, carriers of genotype AA at rs3765467 had a decreased risk of early onset type 2 diabetes after adjusting for sex and body mass index. In the dominant model, the frequencies of the rs3765467 AA + GA genotype were significantly decreased in the early onset type 2 diabetes group, and carriers of genotype AA + GA at rs3765467 had a decreased risk of early onset type 2 diabetes after adjusting for sex and body mass index. Moreover, fasting C peptide levels were significantly higher in GA + AA genotype carriers than those in GG genotype carriers. Conclusion The glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor rs3765467 polymorphism was significantly associated with age at type 2 diabetes diagnosis and thus may be used as a marker to screen and detect individuals at risk of developing early onset type 2 diabetes.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate ocular abnormalities in Fabry disease (FD). METHODS Forty-five patients with FD diagnosed by genetic analysis were enrolled in a single medical centre. The following ocular examinations were performed: slit-lamp examination, ophthalmic fundus imaging, in vivo confocal microscopy (IVCM) and optical coherence tomography (OCT). The prevalences of typical abnormalities in the cornea, conjunctiva and retina were recorded; their differences between hemizygote and heterozygote were compared. RESULTS In this study, the prevalence of corneal verticillata was 97.8% (44/45). Corneal examination with IVCM demonstrated hyper-reflective intracellular inclusions located within basal epithelial cells. Conjunctival vessel malformations were observed in 64.4% (29/45) of patients, and retinal vessel tortuosity was observed in 62.2% (28/45) of patients. OCT revealed many strong hyper-reflective foci (HRF) in the inner retinal layer (in 66.7% [30/45] of patients); these foci may represent retinal vascular plexi. The prevalences of conjunctival vessel malformation, retinal vessel tortuosity and HRF were higher in hemizygote than in heterozygote. CONCLUSIONS Corneal verticillata, HRF on OCT, conjunctival vessel malformation and retinal vessel tortuosity exhibit high prevalence in patients with FD. These ocular manifestations are characteristic and easily accessible; thus, they should be considered diagnostic criteria for FD.

Abstract
Breast cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors in women, and causes a large number of cancer-related deaths. The main cause of death of breast cancer patients is tumor recurrence and metastasis. Recent studies show that lncRNA (Long non-coding RNA) plays an important role in breast cancer. However, the overall biological activity and clinical consequences of the lncRNA MIR17HG in breast cancer remain unclear. Thus, we investigate how the MIR17HG/miR-454-3p network impacts breast cancer cell proliferation and migration. Given the TCGA and Oncomine databases, the researchers evaluated variations in MIR17HG expression for the survival rates of breast cancer patients. The influence of MIR17HG on cell proliferation, migration, cell cycle, and the mRNA expression level of miR-454-3p and FAM135A (family with sequence similarity 135 member A) is identified. Luciferase assay was used to detect the regulatory effect of miR-454-3p on the 3'UTR region of FAM135A, and rescue experiments demonstrated that MIR17HG can up-regulate FAM135A expression by competitively binding miR-454-3p. The effect of FAM135A on the cloning and invasion of MCF-7 cells was detected. MIR17HG expression is reduced in breast cancer tissues, and patients with greater levels of MIR17HG expression have a better prognosis. MIR17HG overexpression caused G2/M arrest in breast cancer cells according to a flow cytometry assay. FAM135A knockdown enhances breast cancer cell proliferation and clone creation, as well as two-dimensional and three-dimensional migratory capacities. Patients with high FAM135A expression in their breast cancer had a better prognosis. These novel findings indicate that MIR17HG may be a potential target for breast cancer. Our findings demonstrated that MIR17HG might suppress breast cancer cell proliferation and migration by sponge miR-454-3p through ceRNA(competing endogenous RNAs) mechanism, indicating that targeting MIR17HG may be a feasible therapeutic candidate for breast cancer.

Abstract
PURPOSE To report a systematic review and meta-analysis of the association between dry eye disease (DED) and dyslipidaemia. METHODS PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and Cochrane Library were systematically searched from January 2000 to December 2021. We included observational studies to assess the correlation of DED with meibomian gland dysfunction and dyslipidaemia without any language restrictions. The pooled OR with 95% CI was calculated in Stata V.15. RESULTS Of 6727 identified studies, 18 studies (21 databases) with a total of 2 663 126 patients were analysed in our meta-analysis. The results showed that DED risk was associated with dyslipidaemia (OR=1.53, 95% CI: 1.41 to 1.66, p=0.001), especially elevated total cholesterol levels (OR=1.57, 95% CI: 1.25 to 1.99, p<0.001), elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels (OR=1.13, 95% CI: 1.06 to 1.20, p<0.001) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels (OR=1.06, 95% CI: 1.01 to 1.11, p<0.001), but not with serum triglyceride levels. Moreover, having a history of lipid-lowering drug use (OR=1.41, 95% CI: 1.19 to 1.67, p<0.001) was also found to be positively associated with DED risk. CONCLUSIONS The findings suggested that dyslipidaemia and lipid-lowering drug use might be associated with an increased risk of DED. Abstract
Exploring the responses of root morphology and its physiological mechanisms under drought stress is significant for further improving water and nutrient absorption in roots. Here, we simulated drought through hydroponics combined with PEG treatments in tobacco to characterize the changes in tobacco root architecture. Our results showed the total root length, first lateral root number, and first lateral root length were significantly reduced upon increasing drought severity, but the average root diameter and secondary lateral root density increased under certain drought conditions. The change of auxin content in roots under drought stress was correlated with the root diameter and second lateral root density responses. Exogenous addition of the auxin analog (NAA) and the auxin transport inhibitor (NPA), as well as DR5:GUS staining experiments further demonstrated that auxin participated in this physiological process. Meanwhile, brassinolide (BR) exhibited a similar trend. Exogenous addition of BR (EBR) and the BR synthesis inhibitor BRZ experiments demonstrated that BR may participate upstream of auxin under drought stress. PEG treatment significantly up-regulated NtBRI1 at 9-24 h, and promoted the up-regulation of NtBSK2 and NtBSK3 at 48 h and 24 h, respectively, these genes may contribute to the change in root morphology under drought stress. This study shows that auxin and BR are involved in the changes in root morphology in tobacco exposed to drought stress. The elucidation of the molecular mechanism at play thus represents a future target for breeding drought-tolerant tobacco varieties.

Abstract
Hydrogels are extensively investigated as biomimetic extracellular matrix (ECM) scaffolds in tissue engineering. The physiological properties of ECM affect cellular behaviors, which is an inspiration for cell-based therapies. Photocurable hyaluronic acid (HA) hydrogel (AHAMA-PBA) modified with 3-aminophenylboronic acid, sodium periodate, and methacrylic anhydride simultaneously is constructed in this study. Chondrocytes are then cultured on the surface of the hydrogels to evaluate the effect of the physicochemical properties of the hydrogels on modulating cellular behaviors. Cell viability assays demonstrate that the hydrogel is non-toxic to chondrocytes. The existence of phenylboronic acid (PBA) moieties enhances the interaction of chondrocytes and hydrogel, promoting cell adhesion and aggregation through filopodia. RT-PCR indicates that the gene expression levels of type II collagen, Aggrecan, and Sox9 are significantly up-regulated in chondrocytes cultured on hydrogels. Moreover, the mechanical properties of the hydrogels have a significant effect on the cell phenotype, with soft gels (≈2 kPa) promoting chondrocytes to exhibit a hyaline phenotype. Overall, PBA-functionalized HA hydrogel with low stiffness exhibits the best effect on promoting the chondrocyte phenotype, which is a promising biomaterial for cartilage regeneration.

Abstract
Introduction Honeycomb is a traditional natural health medicine and has antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral and antitumor activities. It is currently unclear whether honeycomb extract supplementation has positive effects on the intensive farming laying duck production. This study aims to evaluate the effects of honeycomb extracts on the laying performance, egg nutritional and flavor quality, serum biochemical indexes, and antioxidant and immune status in laying ducks. Methods A total of 672 healthy 28-week-old Shanma laying ducks with similar laying performance and body weight were randomly distributed into four dietary treatments with 6 replicates of 28 birds. The birds in each treatment were fed the basal diet supplemented with 0 (control group), 0.5, 1.0 or 1.5 g/kg honeycomb extracts, respectively. Feed and water were provided ad libitum for 45 days. Laying performance, egg quality, egg nutrition and flavor quality, serum parameters were assessed. Results The results showed that compared with the control group, honeycomb extracts addition significantly increased the average daily feed intake but did not affect the other laying performance indexes, egg quality or serum biochemical indexes of laying ducks. Dietary supplementation with honeycomb extracts significantly increased crude protein content and decreased the contents of cholesterol and trimethylamine in eggs. Diets supplemented with 1.5 g/kg honeycomb extracts significantly improved egg total amino acids and flavor amino acids contents, monounsaturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids composition and enhanced the serum antioxidant activity and immune functions of ducks. Discussion Duck eggs are rich in nutrients and a valuable source of high-quality food for human, while they are rarely consumed directly by consumers because of their stronger fishy odor and lower sensory quality. Many studies have showed that the influence of dietary supplementation on egg components. This study indicated that dietary supplementation with honeycomb extracts positively reduced the contents of egg cholesterol and trimethylamine, improve egg amino acids contents and fatty acid profiles, enhanced serum antioxidant and immune status of laying ducks. The recommended supplemental level of honeycomb extracts was 1.5 g/kg in the diet of laying ducks.

Abstract
Traditional Chinese herbs have been widely researched as a green, safe, and effective feed additive for poultry. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of traditional Chinese prescription (TCP) based on various herbs in a specific ratio on the growth performance, carcass traits, immunity, antioxidant level, and intestinal health of Ningdu yellow chickens. A total of 420 female Ningdu yellow chickens were randomly divided into 5 groups, with 6 replicates of 14 each. The chickens were fed with a basal diet supplemented with 0 (CON), 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, or 0.8% TCP from d 43 to 105. Body weight, feed intake, and serum biochemical indicators were recorded at d 70 and 105, intestinal morphology and microflora of the carcass were determined at d 105. Compared to the control group, chickens fed with TCP, particularly at the level of 0.6%, showed improved average daily gain and breast muscle percentage, as well as a lower feed-to-gain ratio with statistical significance (P < 0.05). Between 43 and 70 d of age, chickens fed with TCP exhibited higher levels of serum glutathione peroxidase activity, total antioxidant capacity, and superoxide dismutase, particularly in the group fed with the 0.6% level of TCP (P < 0.05). Between 43 and 105 d of age, feeding chickens with 0.4 and 0.6% TCP resulted in a decrease in serum IL-2 concentration, and increase in the IL-4 content (P < 0.05). Chickens fed with 0.4, 0.6, and 0.8% TCP had significantly higher jejunum villous height (P < 0.05), TCP supplementation also led to a marked increase in the relative abundance of Bacteroidota compared to the control group (P < 0.05). Collectively, the study suggests that TCP supplementation can enhance immune and antioxidant functions, improve jejunum morphology, and positively impact cecum microflora in chickens. Based on these results, a level of 0.6% TCP could be considered an optimum level as a feed supplement for Ningdu yellow chickens aged 43 to 105 d.

Abstract
Obese people with acute pancreatitis (AP) have an increased risk of developing severe acute pancreatitis (SAP), which prolongs the length of hospital stay and increases mortality. Thus, elucidation of the mechanisms through which SAP occurs in obese individuals will provide clues for possible treatment targets. Differences in early events in obese or lean patients with AP have not been conclusively reported. We selected C57BL/6 mice as lean mice models, ob/ob mice or diet induced obese (DIO) mice as obese mice models and then induced experimental AP in mice via injections of caerulein. There were suppressed p-AMPK expressions in the pancreas of obese mice, compared with same-age lean C57BL/6 mice, which were further reduced in AP mice models. Obese AP mice were treated using AICAR, a direct AMPK agonist, which prevented pancreatic damage and cell death, suppressed pancreatic enzyme levels in serum, reduced the areas of fat saponification in the peritoneal cavity, prevented injury in other organs and decreased mice mortality rate. Further assays showed that AICAR activates p-AMPK to stabilize pro-caspase-8. Pro-caspase-8 enhances RIPK3 degradation, inhibits pancreatic acinar cell necroptosis, and downregulates the release of pancreatic enzymes. Thus, activation of AMPK by AICAR alleviates pancreatic acinar cell necroptosis and converts SAP to mild acute pancreatitis in obese mice.

Purpose Physical fitness and fundamental motor skills are two important aspects for the healthy development of preschoolers. Despite the growing interest in clarifying their relationship, the scarcity of longitudinal studies prevents us from understanding causality. Method This study employed a cross-lagged model with two time points to investigate the bidirectional relationship between these two aspects. A total of 174 preschoolers (54.0% girls) from 3 to 6 years old (M = 3.96 ± 0.47) were surveyed, they were recruited by convenience from two kindergartens in Beijing, China, and their physical fitness (via CNPFDSM-EC) and fundamental motor skills (via TGMD-3) were tracked over a period of 6 months. Results The findings revealed a bidirectional predictive effect. The predictive strength of flexibility was found to be lower than other physical fitness aspects, while locomotor skills demonstrated a higher predictive strength than object control skills. Conclusion This study indicates that physical fitness and fundamental motor skills mutually enhance each other in young children, and both should be emphasized in preschool sports education.

Abstract
Bionic mimics using natural cartilage matrix molecules can modulate the corresponding metabolic activity by improving the microenvironment of chondrocytes. A bionic brush polymer, HA/PX, has been found to reverse the loss of cartilage extracellular matrix (ECM) and has promising applications in the clinical treatment of osteoarthritis (OA). However, the unknown bioremediation mechanism of HA/PX severely hinders its clinical translation. In OA, the massive loss of the ECM may be attributed to a decrease in transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 (TRPV4) activity, which affects reactive oxygen species (ROS) clearance and [Ca2+]i signaling, initiating downstream catabolic pathways. In this study, we investigated the bioremediation mechanism of HA/PX in a model of interleukin 1β (IL-1β)-induced inflammation. Through TRPV4, HA/PX reduced ROS accumulation in chondrocytes and enhanced [Ca2+]i signaling, reflecting a short-term protection capacity for chondrocytes. In addition, HA/PX balanced the metabolic homeostasis of chondrocytes via TRPV4, including promoting the secretion of type II collagen (Col-II) and aggrecan, the major components of the ECM, and reducing the expression of matrix metal-degrading enzyme (MMP-13), exerting long-term protective effects on chondrocytes. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations showed that HA/PX could act as a TRPV4 activator. Our results suggest that HA/PX can regulate chondrocyte homeostasis via ROS/Ca2+/TRPV4, thereby improving cartilage regeneration. Because the ECM is a prevalent feature of various cell types, HA/PX holds promising potential for improving regeneration and disease modification for not only cartilage-related healthcare but many other tissues and diseases.

Abstract
Influenza is a major cause of morbidity and mortality. The protective effect of a trivalent influenza vaccine (TIV) is undetermined in military personnel. We conducted an open-label, cluster randomized trial on active-duty servicemen of Beijing, Tianjin, and Shijiazhuang, who were randomly assigned to receive either a single dose of TIV or no treatment, according to cluster randomized sampling. The subjects were then followed for a maximum of six months to assess the incidence of laboratory-confirmed influenza. A total of 5445 subjects in 114 clusters received one dose of TIV before the 2015/2016 influenza season. Laboratory-confirmed influenza was identified in 18 in the vaccine group compared with 87 in the control group (6031 subjects in 114 clusters), resulting in a vaccine effectiveness (VE) of 76.4% (95%CI: 60.7 to 85.8) against laboratory-confirmed influenza. Influenza-like illness was diagnosed in 132 in the vaccine group compared with 420 in the control group, resulting in a VE of 64.1% (95%CI: 56.2 to 70.6). The estimated VE against influenza B viruses was 80.5% (95%CI: 65.6 to 88.9) and 8.6% (95%CI: -241 to 75.5) against influenza A viruses. In conclusion, the trivalent influenza vaccine is moderately effective, highly immunogenic, and generally safe to use in healthy male military servicemen.

Abstract
RATIONALE Thyroid cancer (TC) is the most common malignancy of the head and neck and endocrine system. Distant metastases from TC are rare and are diagnosed in only 1% to 4% of patients, and these patients have a poor prognosis, which is the leading cause of TC-related deaths. There are few reports on metastatic TC in China and abroad, and even fewer reports on lung metastases from TC. We report a special patient with lung metastases of TC. PATIENT CONCERNS The patient is a 31-year-old female who was found to have both lung nodules during physical examination. Chest computed tomography (CT) showed that the density of both lung nodules was the same as the vascular density, considering that the possibility of vascular origin was not excluded. DIAGNOSIS After consultation with the whole hospital, it was considered that vascular malformations, hemangiomas, and malignant metastases were not excluded, the patient percutaneous lung biopsy had a high risk of bleeding, and thoracoscopic lobectomy could be performed in thoracic surgery to further clarify the pathology and diagnosis. OUTCOMES The patient underwent thoracoscopic left lower lobe wedge resection on February 24, 2021. Postoperative pathology: (left lower lung mass) metastatic carcinoma, combined with morphology and immunohistochemistry, leaning toward thyroid follicular carcinoma lung metastasis. On May 27, 2021, the patient underwent "total thyroidectomy + lymph node dissection in the right cervical VI region." Pathological examination: (right lobe and isthmus of the thyroid gland) papillary TC, follicular subtype, and classic type, with interstitial fibrosis. The patient was diagnosed with lung metastasis of TC. LESSONS This patient had the same CT value of lung metastases as the vascular CT value, which is relatively rare in our clinical practice and worthy of our study. The special CT imaging presentation of this TC patient with lung metastases further broadened our horizon. In clinical practice, when we encounter similar cases, we should combine more with other tests and examinations of patients to avoid misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Alopecia areata (AA) is a common immune-mediated non-scarring hair loss, with a worldwide incidence between 0.57% and 3.8%. The incidence and prevalence of AA in the Australian general population have not been previously reported. OBJECTIVE To describe the incidence and prevalence of AA in Australia using primary care data. A secondary objective was to identify common demographic characteristics, comorbidities and treatment patterns among Australians living with AA. METHODS We analysed electronic health record data captured from a national clinical practice management software over a 10-year index period between 2011 and 2020 calendar years, inclusive. The incidence of new-onset AA and the prevalence of active records with AA were estimated. Differences in incidence by sociodemographic groups, and patterns of treatment were also evaluated. RESULTS There were 976 incident AA records. The incidence of new-onset AA in the total study cohort was 0.278 per 1000 person-years (95% CI 0.26-0.295). By age, the incidence was highest in the 19- to 34-year-old age bracket (0.503 per 1000 person-years: 95% CI 0.453-0.554). AA incidence was lower among females than males (IRR 0.763, p < 0.001, 95% CI 0.673-0.865). Among active records, 520 were prevalent AA records. AA point prevalence at 31/12/2020 was 0.13% (1.26 per 1000 persons; 95% CI 1.15-1.37). CONCLUSION This is the first study to describe the epidemiology (incidence and point prevalence) and management of AA in the Australian primary health-care population through large-scale database analysis. Incidence and prevalence findings were consistent with earlier estimates from other regions.

Abstract
Organelles perform critical biological functions due to their distinct molecular composition and internal environment. Disorders in organelles or their interacting networks have been linked to the incidence of numerous diseases, and the research of pharmacological actions at the organelle level has sparked pharmacists' interest. Currently, cell imaging has evolved into a critical tool for drug delivery, drug discovery, and pharmacological research. The introduction of advanced imaging techniques in recent years has provided researchers with richer biological information for viewing and studying the ultrastructure of organelles, protein interactions, and gene transcription activities, leading to the design and delivery of precision-targeted drugs. Therefore, this reviews the research on organelles-targeted drugs based upon imaging technologies and development of fluorescent molecules for medicinal purposes. We also give a thorough analysis of a number of subcellular-level elements of drug development, including subcellular research instruments and methods, organelle biological event investigation, subcellular target and drug identification, and design of subcellular delivery systems. This review will make it possible to promote drug research from the individual/cellular level to the subcellular level, as well as give a new focus based on newly found organelle activities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Femoral offset (FO) restoration plays an important role in improving the prognosis and quality of life of patients undergoing hip replacement. However, it is not given enough attention in revisions among patients with periprosthetic femoral fractures (PPFFs); instead, more attention is given to reduction, fixation of fractures and stabilizing prostheses. The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of FO restoration on the function of the hip joint in revisions of patients with PPFF of Vancouver B2. Moreover, we studied whether there is a difference in FO restoration between modular and nonmodular stems. METHODS A retrospective review of 20 patients with PPFF of Vancouver B2 revised with a tapered fluted modular titanium stem and 22 patients with PPFF of Vancouver B2 revised with a tapered fluted nonmodular titanium stem from 2016 to 2021 was conducted. Based on the difference between the FO of the affected side and that of the healthy side, 26 patients were allocated into Group A (difference ≤ 4 mm), and 16 patients were allocated into Group B (difference > 4 mm). The postoperative Harris Hip Score (HHS), range of motion of the hip joint, length of both lower limbs and dislocation were compared between Group A and Group B. The proportions of patients with FO restoration (difference ≤ 4 mm) and stem subsidence were compared between the modular and nonmodular groups. RESULTS The mean follow-up time was 34.3 ± 17.3 months, and all cases achieved fracture healing at the last visit. Patients in Group A had a higher HHS, larger range of abduction, fewer dislocations and less limb length discrepancy (LLD). Patients in the modular group had a higher proportion of FO restoration and less subsidence. CONCLUSION FO restoration improves postoperative hip joint function and reduces dislocation and LLD in revisions of patients with PPFF of Vancouver B2. Compared with nonmodular prostheses, modular prostheses tend to be easier for FO restoration under complex circumstances.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cervical cancer (CC) is a common gynecological malignancy with high morbidity worldwide. Butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid produced by intestinal flora, has been reported to inhibit cervical carcinogenesis. This study aimed to investigate the pro-apoptotic effects of butyrate on CC and the underlying mechanisms. METHODS Human HeLa and Ca Ski cells were used in this study. Cell proliferation, cell migration and invasion were detected by CCK-8 and EdU staining, transwell and wound healing assay, respectively. Cell cycle, mitochondrial membrane potential and apoptosis were evaluated by flow cytometry. Western blot and RT-qPCR were carried out to examine the related genes and proteins to the mitochondrial complex Ι and apoptosis. Metabolite changes were analyzed by energy metabolomics and assay kits. The association between G protein-coupled receptor 41, 43, 109a and CC prognosis was analyzed using data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). RESULTS CCK-8 results showed significant inhibition of CC cell proliferation induced by butyrate treatment, which was confirmed by EdU staining and cell cycle detection. Data from the transwell and wound healing assay revealed that CC cell migration was dramatically reduced following butyrate treatment. Additionally, invasiveness was also decreased by butyrate. Western blot analysis showed that cleaved Caspase 3 and cleaved PARP, the enforcers of apoptosis, were increased by butyrate treatment. The results of Annexin V/PI staining and TUNEL also showed an increase in butyrate-induced apoptotic cells. Expression of Cytochrome C (Cytc), Caspase 9, Bax, but not Caspase 12 or 8, were up-regulated under butyrate exposure. Mechanistically, the decrease in mitochondrial NADH and NAD + levels after treatment with butyrate was observed by energy metabolomics and the NAD+/NADH Assay Kit, similar to the effects of the complex Ι inhibitor rotenone. Western blot results also demonstrated that the constituent proteins of mitochondrial complex Ι were reduced by butyrate. Furthermore, mitochondria-dependent apoptosis has been shown to be initiated by inhibition of the complex Ι. CONCLUSION Collectively, our results revealed that butyrate inhibited the proliferation, migration and invasion of CC cells, and induced mitochondrial-dependent apoptosis by inhibiting mitochondrial complex Ι.

Abstract
Corneal scarring caused by epithelial-stromal injury impairs corneal transparency and visual acuity. Excess secretion of transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1), which promotes wound closure, penetrates the corneal stroma via defects in the epithelial basement membrane and induces the differentiation of corneal fibroblasts to myofibroblasts, leading to scar formation. Modulating TGF-β1 penetration might alleviate corneal scar formation and restore transparency. In this study, sulfated hyaluronan (sHA) coatings were self-assembled above wounded corneal stroma to modulate TGF-β1 penetration, and their ability to alleviate corneal scarring was investigated. The formation of sHA coatings was rapid (within 30 s), and the high-sulfated hyaluronan coating efficiently blocked penetration by TGF-β1 and reduced the concentration of TGF-β1 in the corneal stroma. Further investigation showed that the ability of TGF-β1 to induce differentiation of corneal fibroblasts into myofibroblasts was inhibited by sHA binding. Evaluation of corneal scarring with sHA coating in a rabbit model of lamellar resection indicated that a sHA (high sulfation) coating effectively reduced scar formation. Immunohistochemical staining of α-smooth muscle actin and optical coherence tomography of the anterior segment showed minimal scar tissue formation in the sHA group. This work presents a promising alternative to alleviate scarring in corneal epithelial-stromal injury.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effects of RNA m6A demethylase ALKBH5 gene deficiency on cerebellar morphology and function in the aged mice, and to explore the role of ALKBH5 in cerebellar degeneration. Methods: Western blot was performed to detect the protein level of ALKBH5 in the cerebellum of wild-type mice of various ages. The expression of NeuN, Calbindin-D28K, MAP2, GFAP and other proteins in the cerebella of middle-aged (12-month-old) and aged (18-month-old) wild-type mice and ALKBH5-/- mice was examined using immunohistochemistry. The balance beam test and gait analysis were performed to test the balance ability and motor coordination of the mice. Results: With aging of the mice, the expression of ALKBH5 in the cerebellum increased gradually in an age-dependent manner. In the aged mice, but not middle-aged mice, the body weight, whole brain weight and cerebellum weight of ALKBH5-/- mice decreased by 15%, 10% and 21%, respectively (P<0.05). The expression of ALKBH5 in the Purkinje cells was much higher than that in other types of neural cells. Correspondingly, ALKBH5-deficiency caused 40% reduction in the number of Purkinje cells, as well as the length and density of neuronal dendrites in the aged mice (P<0.01). In addition, the time for the aged ALKBH5-/- mice to pass the balance beam was 70% longer than that of the wild type mice of the same age, with unstable gaits (P<0.01). Conclusions: Gene deficiency of RNA m6A demethylase ALKBH5 causes cerebellar atrophy, Purkinje neuron loss and damage in the aged mice. These changes eventually affect mice's motor coordination and balance ability. These results suggest that imbalanced RNA m6A methylation may lead to neurodegenerative lesions in the cerebellum of mice.

Abstract
Corneal alkali burn is one of the most devastating ophthalmic emergencies correlated with remarkable morbidity resulting in severe visual impairment. Appropriate intervention in the acute phase determines the eventual outcome for later corneal restoration treatment. Since the epithelium plays an essential role in inhibiting inflammation and promoting tissue repair, sustained anti-matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and pro-epithelialization are the prior remedies during the first week. In this study, a drug-loaded collagen membrane (Dox-HCM/Col) that could be sutured to overlay the burned cornea was developed to accelerate the early reconstruction. Doxycycline (Dox), a specific inhibitor of MMPs, was encapsulated in collagen membrane (Col) through hydroxypropyl chitosan microspheres (HCM) to develop Dox-HCM/Col, affording a preferable pro-epithelialization microenvironment and an in-situ controlled release. Results showed that loading HCM into Col prolonged the release time to 7 days, and Dox-HCM/Col could significantly suppress the expression of MMP-9 and -13 in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, the membrane accelerated the corneal complete re-epithelialization and promoted early reconstruction within the first week. Overall, Dox-HCM/Col was a promising biomaterial membrane for treating alkali-burned cornea in the early stage, and our attempt may provide a clinically feasible method for the ocular surface reconstruction.

Abstract
Due to the shrinking in size of nonvolatile memory devices, the two-dimensional (2D) ferroelectric van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures have received huge attention. However, it is still difficult to maintain the out-of-plane (OOP) ferroelectricity. In this work, we have theoretically investigated the relationship between the ferroelectricity and the strain of bulk and few-layer SnTe by first-principles calculations. The results indicate that the α-SnTe can exist stably within the strain between -6% and 6%, and the complete OOP polarization occurs within the strain between -4% and -2%. Unfortunately, the OOP polarization disappears while the bulk α-SnTe is thinned to a few layers. However, the complete OOP polarization recurs in monolayer SnTe/PbSe vdW heterostructures, which is due to the strong interface coupling. Our findings provide an effective way to enhance ferroelectric performance, which is beneficial for the design of ultra-thin ferroelectric devices.

Abstract
Hydrochar has become a popular product for immobilizing heavy metals in water bodies. However, the relationships between the preparation conditions, hydrochar properties, adsorption conditions, heavy metal types, and the maximum adsorption capacity (Qm) of hydrochar are not adequately explored. Four artificial intelligence models were used in this study to predict the Qm of hydrochar and identify the key influencing factors. The gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT) showed excellent predictive capability for this study (R2=0.93, RMSE=25.65). Hydrochar properties (37%) controlled heavy metal adsorption. Meanwhile, the optimal hydrochar properties were revealed, including the C, H, N, and O contents of 57.28-78.31%, 3.56-5.61%, 2.01-6.42%, and 20.78-25.37%. Higher hydrothermal temperatures (>220 °C) and longer hydrothermal time (>10 h) lead to the optimal type and density of surface functional groups for heavy metal adsorption, which increased the Qm values. This study has great potential for instructing industrial applications of hydrochar in treating heavy metal pollution.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Suvemcitug (BD0801), a novel humanized rabbit monoclonal antibody against vascular endothelial growth factor, has demonstrated promising antitumor activities in preclinical studies. PATIENTS AND METHODS The phase Ia/b trials investigated the safety and tolerability and antitumor activities of suvemcitug for pretreated advanced solid tumors and in combination with FOLFIRI (leucovorin and fluorouracil plus irinotecan) in second-line treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer using a 3 + 3 dose-escalation design. Patients received escalating doses of suvemcitug (phase Ia: 2, 4, 5, 6, and 7.5 mg/kg; phase Ib: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 mg/kg plus FOLFIRI). The primary endpoint was safety and tolerability in both trials. RESULTS All patients in the phase Ia trial had at least one adverse event (AE). Dose-limiting toxicities included grade 3 hyperbilirubinemia (one patient), hypertension and proteinuria (one patient), and proteinuria (one patient). The maximum tolerated dose was 5 mg/kg. The most common grade 3 and above AEs were proteinuria (9/25, 36%) and hypertension (8/25, 32%). Forty-eight patients (85.7%) in phase Ib had grade 3 and above AEs, including neutropenia (25/56, 44.6%), reduced leucocyte count (12/56, 21.4%), proteinuria (10/56, 17.9%), and elevated blood pressure (9/56, 16.1%). Only 1 patient in the phase Ia trial showed partial response, [objective response rate 4.0%, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.1% to 20.4%] whereas 18/53 patients in the phase Ib trial exhibited partial response (objective response rate 34.0%, 95% CI 21.5% to 48.3%). The median progression-free survival was 7.2 months (95% CI 5.1-8.7 months). CONCLUSIONS Suvemcitug has an acceptable toxicity profile and exhibits antitumor activities in pretreated patients with advanced solid tumors or metastatic colorectal cancer.

Abstract
The main pathological manifestation of coronary artery disease is myocardial injury caused by ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury. Regular exercise reduces the risk of death during myocardial IR injury. The aim of this study was to describe the effects of various types of exercise on myocardial IR injury. Four electronic databases PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library were comprehensively searched from inception until February 2022, to identify studies relevant to the current review, using the method of combining subject and free words. Finally, 16 articles were included in the meta-analysis. Results showed that exercise training decreases the Myocardial infarct size compared to the control group (SMD = -2.6, 95 % CI [-3.53 to -1.67], P < 0.01); increasing the coronary blood flow (MD = 2.93, 95 % CI [2.41 to 3.44], P < 0.01), left ventricular developed pressure (SMD = 2.28, 95 % CI [0.12 to 4.43], P < 0.05), cardiac output (SMD = 1.22, 95 % CI [0.61 to 1.83], P < 0.01) compared to the control group. According to the descriptive analysis results also showed that exercise training increases the left ventricular ejection fraction, superoxide dismutase, manganese superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, copper-zinc superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and decrease the creatine kinase, creatine kinase-MB, lactate dehydrogenase, Malondialdehyde, cardiac troponins T. Exercise can improve myocardial function after myocardial IR injury; however, further research is needed in combination with specific issues such as exercise mode, intensity, duration, and model issues.

Abstract
High-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity results in bone loss associated with an imbalanced gut microbiota and altered immune status. Probiotics are live microorganisms that are beneficial to the host and are important in maintaining bone health and gut homeostasis. In this study, the probiotic Lactobacillus coryniformis subsp. torquens (T3L) was isolated from traditional yak milk cheese produced in Lhasa and showed distinct acid and bile salt resistance as potential probiotics. Our data indicated that T3L not only reversed HFD-induced gut dysbiosis, as indicated by decreased Firmicutes-to-Bacteroidetes ratios but also reduced bone loss. The anti-obesity, microbiome-modulating, and bone-protective effects were transmissible via horizontal faeces transfer from T3L-treated mice to HFD-fed mice. The protective effects of T3L on bone mass were associated with regulatory T (Treg) cell-mediated inhibition of osteoclast differentiation. Our data indicate that T3L is a regulator of the gut microbiota and bone homeostasis in an animal model.

Abstract
The simultaneous quantification of amino acids (AAs) in solid beverages without prior derivatization was explored by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled to a potentiometric detector. Included were threonine, leucine, methionine, phenylalanine, and histidine. The potentiometric detector was made consisting of a copper(II)-selective electrode based on a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) membrane, and the potential changes in the detector were determined according to the coordination interactions between cupric copper ions released from the inner filling solution of the electrode and AAs. Conditions were optimized for effective separation and sensitive detection. Fundamental characteristics such as linearity, limits of detection, limits of quantitation, accuracy, precision, and robustness were validated experimentally. The calibration curves showed a linear relationship between peak heights and the injection concentrations of the AAs. The detection limits down to the sub-micromolar range were achieved under isocratic conditions, outperforming ultraviolet detection. The copper(II)-selective electrode had a minimum lifetime of one month. Some real samples were examined to further demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed approach. The measurement results obtained by the present method were in good agreement with those obtained by the HPLC-mass spectrometry (MS), indicating that the combined HPLC-potentiometric method is a potential option for quantifying AAs.

Abstract
Blindness caused by corneal damage affects millions of people worldwide, and this number continues to rise. However, rapid epithelization and a stable epithelium process are the two biggest challenges for traditional corneal materials. These processes are related to corneal curvature, which is an important factor in determination of the corneal healing process and epithelial behavior during corneal damage. In this study, smooth 3D-printed convex corneal implants based on gelatin methacrylate and collagen are generated. As epithelium distribution and adhesion vary in different regions of the natural cornea, this work separates the surfaces into four regions and studies how cells sense topological cues on curvature. It is found that rabbit corneal epithelial cells (RCECs) seeded on steeper slope gradient surfaces on convex structures result in more aligned cell organization and tighter cell-substrate adhesion, which can also be verified through finite element simulation and signaling pathway analysis. In vivo transplantation of convex implants result in a better fit with adjacent tissue and stronger cell adhesion than flat implants, thereby accelerating corneal epithelialization and promoting collagen fibers and neural regeneration within 180 days. Taken together, printed convex corneal implants that facilitate corneal regeneration may offer a translational strategy for the treatment of corneal damage.

Abstract
The present study examined the effects of wearable visual cues, provided by a wearable laser device, on the gait pattern and stability in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD). In total, 18 patients with a clinical diagnosis of idiopathic PD (Hoehn and Yahr stage II-III) and 18 healthy controls were included. The main outcome measures included spatiotemporal parameters, sagittal plane kinematic parameters of joints in lower limbs, and dynamic center of pressure (COP) parameters. Significant intra-group improvement in gait parameters was observed in PD patients. Compared with that at baseline, the gait pattern improved in PD patients under the cued condition, with longer stride length and higher toe clearance, as well as shortening of double stance phase, especially the stride length, double stance phase and toe clearance were not significantly different between cued condition and healthy control groups. In kinematics, the ankle peak dorsiflexion in swing phase and the hip range of motion (ROM) in gait cycle was significantly improved in PD patients with visual cues and close to healthy controls. Decreased anteroposterior (AP) position of COP improved gait stability in patients with PD under the cued condition. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the AP position has a negative correlation with ankle peak dorsiflexion in swing phase. Pearson’s correlation coefficients showed that the minimum toe clearance (Mini TC) was positively correlated with the ankle peak dorsiflexion in swing phase. The immediate effect of wearable visual cues improved the gait pattern and stability in PD patients, suggesting that it may be effective when applied as an alternative technique in rehabilitation training for PD patients.

Abstract
Topological superconductors (TSCs) are an exotic field due to the existence of Majorana zero-modes (MZM) in the edge states that obey non-Abelian statistics and can be used to implement topological quantum computations, especially for two-dimensional (2D) materials. Here we predict manganese diboride (Mn2B2) as an intrinsic 2D anti-ferromagnetic (AFM) TSC based on the magnetic and electronic structures of Mn and B atoms. Once Mn2B2 ML enters a superconducting state, MZM will be induced by the spin-polarized helical gapless edge states. The Z2 topological non-trivial properties are confirmed by Wannier charge centers (WCC) and the platform of the spin Hall conductivity near the Fermi level. Phonon-electron coupling (EPC) implies s-wave superconductivity and the critical temperature (Tc) is 6.79 K.

Abstract
Prospects in light-driven water activation have prompted rapid progress in hydrogenation reactions. We describe a Ni2+ -N4 site built on carbon nitride for catalyzed semihydrogenation of alkynes, with water supplying protons, powered by visible-light irradiation. Importantly, the photocatalytic approach developed here enabled access to diverse deuterated alkenes in D2 O with excellent deuterium incorporation. Under visible-light irradiation, evolution of a four-coordinate Ni2+ species into a three-coordinate Ni+ species was spectroscopically identified. In combination with theoretical calculations, the photo-evolved Ni+ is posited as HO-Ni+ -N2 with an uncoordinated, protonated pyridinic nitrogen, formed by coupled Ni2+ reduction and water dissociation. The paired Ni-N prompts hydrogen liberation from water, and it renders desorption of alkene preferred over further hydrogenation to alkane, ensuring excellent semihydrogenation selectivity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Bone mineral density (BMD) alterations in response to multivitamin exposure were rarely studied. Our study assessed the association of coexposure to six types of vitamins (i.e., vitamins B12, B9, C, D, A and E) with BMD measurements in adults in the US. METHODS Data were collected from participants aged ≥ 20 years (n = 2757) in the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) from 2005 to 2006. Multiple linear regression, restricted cubic splines, principal component analysis (PCA) and weighted quantile sum (WQS) regression were performed for statistical analysis. RESULTS The circulating levels of vitamins B12 and C were positively associated with BMDs, and an inverted L-shaped exposure relationship was observed between serum vitamin C and BMDs. PCA identified two principal components: one for 'water-soluble vitamins', including vitamins B12, B9 and C, and one for 'fat-soluble vitamins', including vitamins A, D and E. The former was positively associated with total femur (β = 0.009, 95%CI: 0.004, 0.015) and femoral neck (β = 0.007, 95%CI: 0.002, 0.013) BMDs, and the latter was negatively associated with BMDs with non-statistical significance. The WQS index constructed for the six vitamins was significantly related to total femur (β = 0.010, 95%CI: 0.001, 0.018) and femoral neck (β = 0.008, 95%CI: 0.001, 0.015) BMDs, and vitamins B12 and C weighted the most. The WQS index was inversely related to BMDs with non-statistical significance, and vitamins E and A weighted the most. CONCLUSION Our findings suggested a positive association between water-soluble vitamin coexposure and BMD, and the association was mainly driven by vitamins B12 and C. Negative association between fat-soluble vitamin coexposure and BMD was indicated, mainly driven by vitamins E and A. An inverted L-shaped exposure relationship was found between vitamin C and BMD.

Abstract
The synthesis of self-assembly systems that can mimic partial biological behaviours require ingenious and delicate design. For decades, scientists are committed to exploring new base pairing patterns using hydrogen bonds directed self-assembly of nucleotides. A fundamental question is the adaptive circumstance of the recognition between base pairs, namely, how solvent conditions affect the domain of base pairs. Towards this question, three nucleotide complexes based on 2'-deoxycytidine-5'-monophosphate (dCMP) and cytidine-5'-monophosphate (CMP) were synthesized in different solvents and pH values, and an unusual cytosine-cytosine base paring pattern (named full C : C base pairing) has been successfully obtained. Systematic single crystal analysis and 1 H NMR titration spectra have been performed to explore factors influencing the formation of base paring patterns. Moreover, supramolecular chirality of three complexes were studied using circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy in solution and solid-state combined with crystal structure analysis.

Abstract
Microplastics (MPs, <5 mm) are enriched in paddy ecosystems as emerging environmental pollutants. Biochar (BC) is a controversial recalcitrant carbon product that poses potential environmental risks. The presence of these two exogenous organic substances has been demonstrated to have impacts on soil nitrogen cycling and crop production. However, the after-effects of MPs and BC on soil ammonia (NH3) volatilization and rice yield after field aging remain unexplored. In this study, two common MPs, including polyethylene (PE) and polyacrylonitrile (PAN), and BC were selected for rice growing season observations to study the impacts on soil NH3 volatilization and rice yield after field aging. The results showed that the reduction of cumulative soil NH3 losses by MPs was around 45% after one-year field aging, which was within the range of 40-57% in the previous rice season. Abatement of NH3 volatilization by MPs mainly occurred in basal fertilization and was related to floodwater pH. Besides, the reduction rate of NH3 volatilization by BC and MPs + BC was enhanced after field aging (63% and 50-57%) compared to that in the previous rice season (5% and 11-19%), with the abatement process occurring in the first supplementary fertilization. There was a significant positive correlation between cumulative NH3 volatilization and soil urease activity. Notably, field aging removed the positive effect of MPs and MPs + BC in reducing yield-scale NH3 losses in the previous rice season (∼62%). Furthermore, despite BC affecting rice yield insignificantly after field aging, the presence of MPs led to a significant 17-19% reduction in rice yield. Our findings reveal that differences in the after-effects of BC and MPs in field aging emerge, where the negative impacts of MPs on soil NH3 abatement and crop yield are progressively becoming apparent and should be taken into serious consideration.

Abstract
Construction of catalytic metal centers, the key modules in artificial photosynthetic systems, lies at the heart to explore unpaved reactivity patterns powered by light. Here, we disclose that the amino (-NH2) and carboxylic (-COO) functionalities, aligned in various visible-light-harvesting metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) (NH2-UiO-66, (NH2)2-UiO-67, and NH2-MIL-125), provide N/O-ligated Ni featuring different configurations and valence states. Of note, these Ni centers, in situ formed or preimplanted, demonstrated coordination units' spatial arrangement-dependent activity in cross-coupling of aryl halides and various nucleophiles. Our work provides a novel approach to construct and to regulate metal center(s) by MOFs' skeleton defined coordination environments, highlighting exclusive potential in exploring the reactivity pattern of the hosted metals.
