Abstract
Lasers have numerous advantageous tissue interactions such as ablation or vaporization, hemostasis, bacterial killing, as well as biological effects, which induce various beneficial therapeutic effects and biological responses in the tissues. Thus, lasers are considered an effective and suitable device for treating a variety of inflammatory and infectious conditions of periodontal disease. Among various laser systems, the Er:YAG laser, which can be effectively and safely used in both soft and hard tissues with minimal thermal side effects, has been attracting much attention in periodontal therapy. This laser can effectively and precisely debride the diseased root surface including calculus removal, ablate diseased connective tissues within the bone defects, and stimulate the irradiated surrounding periodontal tissues during surgery, resulting in favorable wound healing as well as regeneration of periodontal tissues. The safe and effective performance of Er:YAG laser-assisted periodontal surgery has been reported with comparable and occasionally superior clinical outcomes compared to conventional surgery. This article explains the characteristics of the Er:YAG laser and introduces its applications in periodontal surgery including conventional flap surgery, regenerative surgery, and flapless surgery, based on scientific evidence from currently available basic and clinical studies as well as cases reports.

Abstract
To investigate the in vivo and in situ effect of different types of lasers in prevention of enamel demineralization in high caries risk cases (around orthodontic brackets, around restoration and in caries susceptible pits and fissures). PubMed was searched using the following keyword sequence; (Laser therapy OR laser irradiation OR laser application) AND (enamel caries prevention OR enamel demineralization OR enamel remineralization OR early enamel caries OR early-enamel caries OR enamel resistance OR enamel decalcification OR white spot lesions WSLs OR incipient lesion OR enamel decay OR enamel Dissolution OR enamel microhardness) AND (clinical trial OR Randomized clinical trial OR In situ study). The latest literature search was ended by "30 January 2023". PubMed was used as a primary data base for study selection. Scopus, EBSCO, and Google scholar are checked in our study after results of systematic search on PubMed. Only duplicates were found. Two meta-analyses were carried out. The first, clinical meta-analysis on incidence of white spot lesions (WSLs) following CO2 laser irradiation of enamel. The second meta-analysis on ex-vivo/in situ effect of CO2 laser on microhardness of enamel. In each meta-analysis three studies were included. Risk of bias was assessed. The search identified eight studies (four ex-vivo and four clinical trials). Regarding the clinical meta-analysis, the overall standardized mean difference was 0.21 [ 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.15-0.30, p < 0.00001]. This indicates that the incidence of new WSLs in patients who received low power CO2 laser treatment was highly significantly lower than placebo groups. The heterogeneity was considerable (I2 = 71%). In the second meta-analysis, the overall standardized mean difference was 49.55 [ 95% confidence interval (CI): 37.74, 61.37, p < 0.00001]. This indicates that microhardness of enamel receiving low power (0.4-5 W) CO2 laser irradiation is highly significantly lower than control untreated enamel. The heterogeneity was substantial (I2 = 48%). Within the limitations of this study, Low level laser therapy concept with CO2 laser seems to be effective in preventing enamel caries.Prospero registration number: CRD42023437379.

Abstract
Introduction: Endodontic treatment of teeth with periapical lesions presents more clinical difficulty. Various lasers in several methods are used in endodontics, and most of them are utilized as an adjunctive protocol in order to reduce the bacterial load of the root canal system. Improved disinfection plays a crucial role in enhanced and accelerated healing of periapical lesions. This review aims to summarize studies assessing the effect of lasers on periapical lesion healing. Methods: PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Embase, and Web of Science (ISI) online databases were searched, with no publication year or status restriction, for relevant articles on April 2023. Clinical studies evaluating the effect of laser application on the periapical lesion of patients using radiographic assessment were considered eligible for inclusion. Results: Eight studies were included after carefully screening the obtained articles, first by their title and abstract and then by their full texts. Diode (4), Er, Cr: YSGG (3), and Nd: YAG (1) lasers were used with output powers that varied from 0.75 to 2 watts. Photodynamic therapy was employed in two studies, and in other studies, the root canal system was directly irradiated. Irradiation of the root canal system was adjunctive to standard preparation in all studies. The healing of the teeth treated with lasers was not inferior to those conventionally treated. In all of the included studies, laser application outperformed the standard cleaning and shaping protocol; however, this improved or faster healing was not statistically significant in most studies. Conclusion: Lasers might expedite and improve the healing process of periapical lesions. Since lasers enhance the quality of cleaning of the root canal system, it is hard to point out the exact mechanism of it. Further investigations are needed to realize the effectiveness of this treatment modality and to discover the underlying biological concepts.

Abstract
Introduction: This study aimed to assess the photobiomodulation effects of blue and red lasers on the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of periodontal ligament mesenchymal stem cells (PDLMSCs). Methods: PDLMSCs were cultured and tested in 4 groups. The first two groups were exposed to 445 nm diode laser irradiation (200 mW, 6 and 12 J/cm2 ), and the third group was exposed to 660 nm diode laser irradiation (50 mW, 4 J/cm2 ). The fourth group was also considered as the control group without irradiation. Cell viability/proliferation was assessed by MTT assay. RUNX2, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), collagen type 1 (col1), and osteocalcin (OCN) were evaluated by RT-PCR, and Alizarin red was used to evaluate the colonization. The data were analyzed by means of one-way analysis of variance. Results: The results of our study showed that cell survival/proliferation in the second group was significantly lower than that in the control group on days 1 and 7 (P<0.05). RT-PCR showed a significant increase in osteogenic genes in all three laser groups compared to the control group (P<0.05). All groups showed a significant increase in calcium content compared to the control group (P<0.05). ALP activity also confirmed the osteoblastic differentiation of cells in laser groups. Conclusion: 445 nm and 660 nm lasers with the studied parameters showed positive effects on the proliferation and osteoblastic differentiation of PDLMSCs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study assessed the effect of corticotomy with Er: YAG (erbium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet) laser on the rate of canine retraction. METHODS This randomized split-mouth controlled clinical trial was conducted on 12 patients undergoing orthodontic treatment with extraction of maxillary first premolars. Following initial leveling and alignment, an alginate impression was made from the maxillary arch, and Er: YAG laser corticotomy was performed in one of the maxillary quadrants of each patient. Canine retraction was started immediately after corticotomy by placement of nickel-titanium (NiTi) closed coil springs at both sides. At the end of each month, alginate records were repeated for 4 months. Study models were scanned, and the anteroposterior movement of canine was quantified bilaterally. Pain was also measured by a visual analog scale (VAS). Probing depth (PPD) of canines and two adjacent teeth was also evaluated and pulp vitality was assessed by performing the cold test. Data were analyzed by paired and independent t-test and one-way ANOVA (alpha = 0.05). RESULTS The rate of canine retraction was significantly greater in the laser-assisted corticotomy quadrant than the control (P < 0.05). No significant difference existed in posterior anchorage loss, canine rotation angle, PPD, pulp vitality, or pain score between two groups (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Flapless Er: YAG laser corticotomy significantly enhanced canine retraction rate with no adverse effect on other parameters.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This systematic review and meta-analysis (SRM) aimed to evaluate the efficacy of laser phototherapy (LPT) on the reduction in postoperative pain (PP) of endodontic origin after conventional/non-surgical reintervention of root canals. METHODS This SRM was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42021243500) and followed the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis. Meta-analysis was conducted using R software with the "META" package, the mean difference (MD) measure of effect was calculated, and the fixed effect model was applied with a 95% confidence interval (CI). The Cochrane collaboration scale was used to assess the risk of bias and the GRADE tool to assess the quality of evidence. RESULTS Initially, 1028 articles were found, and five articles were included. Most studies were classified as "low" risk of bias. Of the five clinical studies, four showed a significant decrease in PP after endodontic reintervention in the LPT groups compared to the control group, especially in the first four days after the intervention. In symptomatic teeth with multiple roots, LPT led to less PP at 24 h (MD -0.52 [-1.03; -0.02] p = .04). However, no significant difference between the groups was found at 48 and 72 h (p > .05). The certainty of the evidence was classified as low. CONCLUSION Despite the limitations of this SRM, LPT was shown to be a promising alternative for reducing and controlling PP in conventional endodontic reintervention. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The use of LPT in endodontic reintervention may be a safe and promising alternative to clinically efficacious agent for use in the management of PP in this procedure.

Abstract
Unlike surgical instruments and endoscopic equipment, Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) devices are not readily available or accessible to the clinicians who may like to add this form of treatment modality for selected patients and on an ad hock basis. There is in fact a vacuum in finding the "tools" of PDT for those clinicians who are not part of a "Centre" with a built-in knowledge base and contacts for manufacturers. In this compendium the Yorkshire Laser Centre /YLC in the UK, (the Project of the Moghissi Laser Trust - (Charity number 326689) requested three experienced clinicians (RA, ZH, KM) to produce essential information on the use of and equipment for PDT in the clinic. The YLC also sponsored a researcher (ID) to search and compile a detailed but non-exhaustive list of approved photosensitizing agents, pharmaceutical companies, light sources and laser manufacturers with appropriate delivery devices for PDT. Thus, this Mini -Compendium is the end result of what is hoped to be a useful adjunct for practitioners, scientists and students of PDT.

Abstract
The main purpose of vital pulp therapy (VPT) is to preserve the integrity and function of the pulp. A wide variety of materials and techniques have been proposed to improve treatment outcomes, and among them, the utilization of lasers has gained significant attention. The application of lasers in different stages of VPT has witnessed remarkable growth in recent years, surpassing previous approaches.This study aimed to review the applications of lasers in different steps of VPT and evaluate associated clinical and radiographic outcomes. An electronic search using Scopus, MEDLINE, Web of Science and Google Scholar databases from 2000 to 2023 was carried out by two independent researchers. The focus was on human studies that examined the clinical and/or radiographic effects of different laser types in VPT. A total of 4243 studies were included in this narrative review article. Based on the compiled data, it can be concluded that although current literature suggests laser may be proposed as an adjunct modality for some procedural steps in VPT, more research with standardized methodologies and criteria is needed to obtain more reliable and conclusive results.

Abstract
The utilisation of laser technology in the realm of periodontal care represents a significant advancement in clinical practice. This article delves into the historical context of laser therapy in medicine, from its inception in 1960 to its evolution into low-level laser therapy (LLLT). LLLT, often referred to as photobiomodulation (PBM), has garnered attention due to its potential to enhance periodontal treatment outcomes. The article thoroughly examines the mechanisms of action of photobiomodulation therapy PBM(T), covering its impact on cellular and tissue levels. The authors explore the evidence-based recommendations for the use of PBM(T) in periodontal care, shedding light on its potential to improve periodontal conditions, especially when applied as an adjunct to conventional treatments. They investigate the role of PBM(T) in individuals and its possible contribution to periodontal health. Additionally, the article delves into its application in periodontal regenerative procedures and its ability to expedite soft tissue wound healing and the effects of PBM(T) in reducing periodontal inflammation and mitigating post-periodontal surgery discomfort. In conclusion, the article calls for enhanced clinical research to streamline laser procedures, develop antimicrobial photodynamic therapy, and conduct well-designed randomised controlled trials (RCTs). It also emphasises the importance of understanding the impact of laser therapy on therapeutic and biological goals, the potential to reduce invasive procedures, and the necessity of adequate research funding.

Abstract
This tutorial review combines the fundamentals of the design and operation of lasers with their usage in applications related to conservation and cultural heritage (CH) science - as components of analytical devices for the study of the chemical composition of materials. The development of laser instruments and their fundamental physical background, including a short explanation of their properties and parameters, are briefly summarised, and an overview of different laser-based analytical techniques is given. The analytical techniques covered in this tutorial are divided into three groups based on their technical aspects and properties: (1) vibrational spectroscopy, (2) elemental analysis, and (3) different molecular mass spectrometric techniques.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Effective disinfection of the root canals is the cornerstone of successful endodontic treatment. Diminishing the microbial load within the root canal system is crucial for healing in endodontically treated teeth. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of 2780 nm Er,Cr:YSGG and 940 nm diode lasers on the eradication of microorganisms from single-rooted teeth with asymptomatic apical periodontitis. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty participants conforming to the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into 3 groups according to the disinfection protocol used; Conventional group: 2.5% Sodium Hypochlorite (NaOCl) and 17% EDTA solution NaOCl/EDTA, Dual laser group: 2780 nm Erbium, chromium: yttrium scandium-gallium-garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG) laser and 940 nm diode laser Er,CrYSGG/Diode, and Combined group: 17% EDTA and 940 nm diode laser EDTA/Diode. Bacterial samples were collected before and after intervention. The collected data were statistically analyzed using Friedman's test and Kruskal-Wallis test (P ≤ 0.05). RESULTS The results of the study showed that both dual laser Er,CrYSGG/Diode and combined laser EDTA/Diode groups showed significantly less mean Log10 CFU/ml of aerobic and anaerobic bacterial counts than the conventional NaOCl/EDTA group. CONCLUSIONS In this study we evaluated in vivo the bactericidal efficacy of three disinfection protocols for endodontic treatment of single-rooted teeth with apical periodontitis. The results indicated that both dual laser Er,CrYSGG/Diode and combined laser EDTA/Diode groups provide superior bactericidal effect compared to the conventional NaOCl/EDTA group. CLINICAL RELEVANCE The integration of lasers into root canal disinfection protocols has demonstrated significant bacterial reduction which might promote healing and long-term success.

Abstract
The purpose is to explore the analgesic effect of a single Nd:YAG laser dose after mandibular third molar extraction. This was a prospective randomized controlled clinical trial. Subjects were enrolled according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria and randomly divided into the experimental and control groups. In the experimental group, the wound was irradiated with the Nd:YAG laser (wavelength, 1064 nm; output power, 1.5 W; energy density, 45 J/cm2; and power density, 1.5/cm2, pulsed mode) immediately after mandibular third molar extraction for 120 s (30 s at each site). In the control group, the laser working tip was placed near the extraction site but not activated. The primary outcome was the visual analog scale (VAS) pain scores in both groups at 2, 4, 12, 24, 48, and 72 h and 7 days after surgery. Secondary outcomes included wound healing scores and adverse reactions. The VAS score was significantly lower in the experimental group than in the control group at 2 and 4 h after surgery, while there was no significant difference in the VAS score between the two groups at 12, 24, or 48 h or 7 days after surgery. There were no significant differences in the wound healing scores between the two groups on postoperative day 7. No adverse reactions were observed in any of the laser-irradiated areas. A single Nd:YAG laser dose was effective in reducing pain at 2 and 4 h after mandibular third molar extraction. China Clinical Trial Registry: ChiCTR2000033870 (Registration Date: 2020-6-15).

Abstract
PURPOSE Traditional therapeutic approaches to the surgical management of hemorrhoid disease such as hemorrhoidectomies are plagued with severe postoperative pain and protracted recovery. Our pilot study aims to the laser hemorrhoidoplasty (LH) patients with symptomatic hemorrhoid disease that have failed conservative management for the first time in an Australian population. METHODS Thirty patients were prospectively enrolled to undergo LH. Postoperative pain, time to return to function, and quality of life (QoL) were determined through the Hemorrhoid Disease Symptom Score and Short Health Scale adapted for hemorrhoidal disease and compared to a historical group of 43 patients who underwent a Milligan-Morgan hemorrhoidectomy by the same surgeon at 3, 6, and 12 months. RESULTS The LH group had significantly lower mean predicted pain scores on days 1 and 2 and lower defecation pain scores and lower opioid analgesia use on days 1, 2, 3, and 4. The median time to return to normal function was significantly lower in the LH group (2 days vs. 9 days, P<0.001). Similarly, the median days to return to the workplace was significantly lower in the LH group (6 days vs. 13 days, P=0.007). During long-term follow-up (12 months), hemorrhoid symptoms and all QoL measures were significantly improved, especially among those with grade II to III disease. CONCLUSION This pilot study demonstrates low pain scores with this revivified procedure in an Australian population, indicating possible expansion of the therapeutic options available for this common condition. Further head-to-head studies comparing LH to other hemorrhoid therapies are required to further determine the most efficacious therapeutic approach.

Abstract
Head and neck vascular pathology is routinely encountered by the maxillofacial surgeon. Although these anomalies have been traditionally managed by surgical means, adjunctive therapies have been popularized in recent years. The use of laser therapy has gained attention for its ability to better access and to provide more predictable outcomes in the highly intricate and vascular areas of the head and neck. Laser therapy allows for the selective targeting of diseased tissue while maintaining the integrity of surrounding healthy tissue.

Abstract
The introduction of selective photothermolysis by Drs. John Parrish and Rox Anderson in 1983 revolutionized how lasers are used in dermatology. The theory allowed for lasers to be used in a variety of applications both safe and effectively, and the number of applications has only expanded with time. From the first application on vascular birthmarks to more recent applications for acne, this review covers the evolution of lasers from the beginning to where we are headed.

Abstract
Instant detection of explosive material is highly appreciated for counterterrorism activity and homeland security. Nitro group (high energy rich bond) is responsible for explosive characteristics. Nitro group includes intense competition between two highly electronegative atoms. Nitro group is frequently encountered in all explosive materials. This function group includes delocalized π bond; that could secure intense photoluminescence (fluorescence and phosphorescence) signature. In this study, the main classes of explosive materials including nitro-compounds (i.e. TNT), nitramines (i.e. RDX), and nitric esters (i.e. PETN) were stimulated with green laser source of 532 nm and 5 mW power. The photoluminescence signature of each tested material was captured via hyperspectral camera. The tested explosives demonstrated characteristic fluorescence signature at 571, 587, and 613 nm for RDX, PETN, and TNT respectively. Furthermore, TNT demonstrated characteristic phosphorescence signature at 975 nm. The customized laser induced photoluminescence technique offered facile detection of trace explosive material via clustering approach based on K-m clustering (k = 8); this technique was able to detect RDX, PETN and TNT traces on the finger nail via processed hyperspectral images at 581 nm, 797 nm and 953 nm, respectively. This study shaded the light on novel customized photoluminescence technique for facile detection and identification of trace explosive materials.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common skin disease which, depending on its severity, can have a significant impact on the quality of life of affected individuals. In cases of severe AD, systemic immunomodulatory agents can be considered for treatment. However, the available treatment options for moderate AD are limited. According to previous reports, however, 308-nm excimer light is a potential treatment for localized, moderate AD. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to assess the clinical efficacy and safety of 308-nm excimer light in Korean adults with AD. METHODS This study included Korean patients aged over 19 years, who were diagnosed with AD by a dermatologist, with bilateral, symmetric, and eczematous lesions. The symmetrical lesions in each patient were treated as control-test pairs. Treatment with 308-nm excimer light was applied to the test lesion twice a week for 4 weeks. The severity of the eczema, trans-epidermal water loss, and epidermal capacitance were measured. RESULTS A total of 25 participants were enrolled in the study. After the first visit, two participants withdrew, whereas the remaining 23 completed the study. There was a statistically significant improvement in AD severity in the test group than in the control group (p<0.001). Skin barrier function also improved in the test than in the control group (p<0.01). CONCLUSION This study provides preliminary evidence for the use of 308-nm excimer light as a treatment option to improve symptoms and skin barrier function in moderately localized AD.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the photodynamic effects of curcumin, nanomicelle curcumin, and erythrosine on Lactobacillus casei (L. casei). Various concentrations of curcumin (1.5 g/L, 3 g/L), nano-curcumin (3 g/L), and erythrosine (100 µM/L, 250 µM/L) were tested either alone or combined with light irradiation (PDT effect) against L. casei in planktonic and biofilm cultures. The light was emitted from a light-emitting diode (LED) with a central wavelength of 450 nm. A 0.12% chlorhexidine digluconate (CHX) solution served as the positive control, and a solution containing neither photosensitizer nor light was the negative control group. The number of viable microorganisms was determined using serial dilution. There was a significant difference in the viability of L. casei in both planktonic and biofilm forms (P < 0.05). In the planktonic culture, the antibacterial effects of CHX and PDT groups with curcumin 3 g/L and erythrosine 250 µM/L were significantly greater than the other groups (P < 0.05). For L. casei biofilms, the greatest toxic effects were observed in CHX and PDT groups with curcumin 3 g/L, erythrosine 250 µmol/L, erythrosine 100 µmol/L, and nanomicelle curcumin 3 g/L, with a significant difference to other groups (P < 0.05). The antibacterial effects of all photosensitizers (except erythrosine 250 µmol/L at planktonic culture) enhanced significantly when combined with light irradiation (P < 0.05). PDT with curcumin 3 g/L or erythrosine 250 µmol/L produced comparable results to CHX against L. casei at both planktonic and biofilm cultures. Alternatively, PDT with erythrosine 100 µmol/L or nanomicelle curcumin 3 g/L could be suggested to kill L. casei biofilms.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the clinical and microbiological efficacy of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) in patients with erythematous candidiasis (EC). METHODS This study was a controlled and randomized clinical trial in patients diagnosed with EC, who were allocated into a control group (CG) and experimental group (EG) treated with nystatin oral suspension and aPDT with methylene blue 0.1%, respectively. A clinical index was used to classify the EC lesions from mild to severe and assess the treatment efficacy. Microbiological samples were collected before and after aPDT session and analyzed by counting colony-forming units (CFUs) of Candida and Staphylococcus sp. RESULTS A total of 41 patients (CG (n = 18); EG (n = 23)) were analyzed in our research. Of these, 16 (94.1%) of the CG and 16 (84.2%) of the EG exhibited complete remission of the lesions. Regarding the degree of the lesion, it was observed that the severe lesions were more difficult to present remission, while all the mild and moderate lesions showed complete regression (p = 0.001). The microbiological analysis showed that Candida albicans and Staphylococcus sp. were the most prevalent microorganisms, and the aPDT group showed a decrease in CFUs of these microorganisms after the first aPDT session (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS aPDT proved to be a clinically and microbiologically effective therapy for treating EC. TRIAL REGISTRATION Registered at ClinicalTrials.gov; Set 12th, 2019; No. RBR-8w8599. CLINICAL RELEVANCE aPDT is a promising alternative treatment since it presents satisfactory results and does not cause damage to oral tissues or develop resistance to the treatment.

Abstract
Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (PJS; MIM 175200) is an autosomal dominant multiple-organ cancer syndrome. It is characterized by brown macules distributed in the perioral skin, oral mucosa, hands and feet, and hamartomatous gastrointestinal polyps that can eventually lead to intestinal obstruction, abdominal pain, bleeding, and anemia. Patients with PJS are at a higher risk of ovarian, testicular, breast, lung, and pancreatic cancers. This predisposition is due to the pathogenic variant in serine/threonine kinase 11 (STK11) gene located on chromosome 19p13.3. Here, we present the dermoscopic findings, histopathologic features of acral pigmentation, and DNA sequencing results of the patient with PJS. We also report a successful removal of acral pigmentation using the Q-switched Nd:YAG laser (QSNYL) treatment. Our results suggest that QSNYL therapy could be a treatment option for acral pigmentation in patients with PJS.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate risk factors for poor prognosis in vocal fold leukoplakia. METHODS Clinical data were collected for 344 patients with vocal fold leukoplakia who received surgical treatment in our otolaryngology department from October 2010 to June 2019. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses of the relevant factors were conducted. RESULTS Among the 344 patients, 98 exhibited recurrence and 30 underwent a malignant change. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that size of the lesion (p = 0.03, odds ratio = 2.14), form of the lesion under white light (p < 0.001), surgical method (p < 0.001, odds ratio = 0.28) and pathological type (p < 0.001) were independent factors that affected the recurrence of vocal fold leukoplakia. In both univariate and multivariate analyses, the sole independent risk factor for malignant transformation of vocal fold leukoplakia was pathological type (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION The outlook for vocal fold leukoplakia depends on several clinical factors, especially pathological type. The more severe the pathological type, the more likely it is to recur or become cancerous.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the impact of two Er,Cr:YSGG laser surface treatments on the repair bond strength of a dental CAD/CAM resin composite (Brilliant Crios) after artificial aging. Twenty-four resin-based CAD/CAM blocks were cut and 48 rectangular slabs (3 x 12 x 14 mm) were prepared. Preliminary SEM observations indicated the most favorable laser settings regarding surface modification of the tested restorative material. The CAD/CAM specimens were then divided into 4 groups (n=12) based on their surface pretreatment: no treatment, air abraded with 50-μm Al2O3 particles, and laser irradiated with two different protocols using Er,Cr:YSGG laser with average power 3.5 and 4.5 W, pulse repetition rate 35 and 50 Hz, and pulse energy 100 and 90 mJ, respectively. After surface treatments each group followed a bonding protocol with silane and a flowable resin composite was used to prepare 48 microrods. Half of the microrods of each group were subjected on shear bond strength (SBS) test (chisel-shaped blade, load cell of 500 N, crosshead speed of 1 mm/min) after 24 h, while the other half underwent artificial aging (15,000 cycles, 5-55 °C) and then SBS test. The debonded specimens were examined under an optical microscope to determine the failure mode. All specimens were also evaluated using SEM to assess the surface topography after the treatments. The results showed that SBS significantly decreased after thermocycling in all the experimental groups (p<0.05). Control group presented much lower SBS values than the other groups after both 24 h and thermocycling (p<0.05). The highest values of SBS exhibited air-abrasion group (p<0.05), followed by the two laser groups, which did not differ to each other (p>0.05). The results of the current study indicated that Er,Cr:YSGG laser irradiation can be an alternative treatment for repairing the tested resin-based CAD/CAM restorative material.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility of complex unicortical calvarial harvesting by using the Cold Ablation Robot-Guided Laser Osteotome (CARLO® primo+). A cadaveric study was performed with a progressive complexity of the bone harvesting. This preliminary study on the cadaveric cranial vault area examined the tracking precision, the strategies, settings and durations of harvesting, the accuracy of the unicortical bone cutting, and the risk of dura exposition. All sampling was realised with no more difficulty than that experienced during the standard procedure. No bicortical cutting occurred during CARLO® primo + robot-guided laser cutting. During the second sampling, dura was partially exposed due to improper angulation of the curved osteotome during harvesting. Complex unicortical calvarial harvesting using robot-guided laser appears to be feasible and safe. In the future, robotic approaches will probably replace current surgical techniques using cutting guides and help reduce intraoperative inaccuracies due to the human factor.

Abstract
Vital pulp therapy (VPT) is primarily intended to preserve the vitality of pulp tissues, which have been exposed for any reason. Various materials and techniques have been proposed to improve treatment outcomes, including the use of lasers. This study aimed to review the histological results of different dental lasers including low-level lasers, carbon dioxide (CO2), erbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet laser (Er:YAG), neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG), erbium, chromium:yttrium-scandium-gallium-garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG) lasers, and diode lasers for VPT. This focused review included a comprehensive electronic search of Scopus, MEDLINE, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases from 2000 to 2022 by two independent investigators. Different combinations of keywords were used, and reference mining of related papers was done. The review included studies related to histologic evaluation of laser-assisted vital pulp therapy that stated the laser parameters that were used. Articles with radiographic or clinical assessments or articles lacking necessary data were excluded. Non-English articles were excluded unless their abstract was in English and encompassed the necessary data. Most studies indicated the efficacy of lasers for reduction of inflammation, acceleration of healing, and increasing the thickness of dentinal bridge. According to the evidence, lasers used in combination with pulp capping agents are beneficial to enhance the success rate of VPT.

Abstract
Implantable central venous (CV) ports are widely used for chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition. Generally, CV ports are used safely; however, some patients suffer from drug leakage around the port septum due to mispuncture. Therefore, we developed a CV port that is visible under the skin. We created a prototype of a CV port using a 3D printer. Three red light-emitting diodes (LEDs) were attached around the septum that made the puncture site visible by applying wireless energy transmission technology using electromagnetic resonance. The CV port was implanted under the skin of pork rose meat. The thickness of the skin of pork loin was measured. Fifteen medical doctors participated in the study to visually confirm the lighted CV port. The visibility of the center of the septum with and without lights was scored 0 as non-diagnostic; 1, slightly visible; 2, well visible; and 3, obviously visible. The visibility with or without lights was assessed. The relationship between the years of experience and the visibility score was assessed. The Wilcoxon test was used for statistical analysis. LEDs were easily transmitted through the skin of pork rose meat. The median visibility scores with or without lights were 2 (range, 1-3) and 3 (range, 1-3), respectively (p = 0.005). No significant relationship was found between experience and visibility score (p = 0.289). CV ports with LEDs can be easily recognized compared with those without LEDs. This technique may contribute to medical safety by improving its visibility to avoid mispuncture.

Abstract
Introduction: This study aimed to assess the effect of photodynamic therapy (PDT) on the pushout bond strength (PBS) of resin-based and calcium silicate-based endodontic sealers. Methods: Forty single-canal teeth were assigned to four groups. After root canal preparation by the crown-down technique and smear layer removal, groups 1 and 2 served as the control group, and groups 3 and 4 underwent PDT by using a low-level diode laser as the light source and methylene blue as the photosensitizer (MB). The root canals in groups 1 and 3 were filled with AH26 sealer while the root canals in groups 2 and 4 were filled with Endoseal TCS. The samples were sectioned at 4, 8, and 12 mm from the apex tip (1mm thick slices). The PBS test was performed, and the mode of failure was determined in the coronal, middle, and apical thirds. The data were analyzed by the Kruskal-Wallis, Friedman, and Dunn tests. Results: No significant difference was noted in the PBS of resin-based and calcium silicate-based sealers in the apical, middle, or coronal thirds in the application of PDT (P>0.05). The PBS of AH26 was significantly higher than that of Endoseal TCS (P<0.05). Cohesive failure was the dominant mode of failure in the AH26 groups, while mixed failure was the dominant failure mode in the Endoseal TCS groups. Abstract
PURPOSE Bracket debonding is an undesirable problem during fixed orthodontic treatment. As ceramic brackets have no flexibility, there is no change in the slot dimension. So, reconditioning a ceramic bracket can be done without compromising the quality of treatment and could be a cost-effective measure. The objective of this systematic review is to deduce and validate the best method of reconditioning ceramic bracket in order to get optimum clinical shear bond strength. MATERIAL AND METHODS Studies such as randomized controlled trials (RCTs); In vitro studies comparing different interventions with control group, cross sectional studies were included. Electronic databases such as Cochrane database, PubMed, Web of Science, Embase were searched up to July 2022. Grey literature search and cross-referencing/snowballing methods were also used. Two reviewers independently selected studies and assessed the risk of bias using amalgamation of five tools for in vitro studies. Then meta-analysis was performed using random effects model. RESULTS Eleven studies were included in which ten studies were considered as good quality studies. According the meta-analysis performed, the best performance in terms of shear bond strength was of new brackets. Among the different reconditioning methods, the meta-analysis showed that the method with the closest bond strength to the new brackets was silicatisation with a mean difference of 6.35MPa (95% CI between 2.39 and 10.31) followed by sandblasting+silane application with a mean difference of 3.36MPa (95% CI between 0.3 and 6.96) compared to other methods. CONCLUSIONS Due to the lack of in vivo studies, only in vitro studies were evaluated. The data available from the in vitro studies was considered to be of good quality, leading to the conclusion that the best method for reconditioning debonded ceramic brackets is silicatisation followed by sandblasting and silane application.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic non-specific neck pain (CNNP) is a prevalent musculoskeletal disorder known for its significant disability and economic burden, ranking second only to low back pain in musculoskeletal conditions. Physical therapy offers effective interventions for CNNP, including low-level laser therapy (LLLT). High-intensity laser therapy (HILT) is a recent treatment for musculoskeletal pain, but studies that support its use in CNNP are limited. The objective of this study is to assess the effect of high-intensity laser therapy on pain intensity in patients with CNNP, given the existing evidence on LLLT for this condition. METHODS This is a 2-arm, randomized, placebo-controlled trial with blinded evaluators. The research will be carried out in the laboratory of physical agents at the Andrés Bello University, Campus Casona de las Condes. Eligible participants include the entire internal and external community associated with Andrés Bello University suffering from chronic non-specific NP. Participants will be stratified by sex (4 subgroups) and randomized into 2 study groups: group 1 (HILT and stretching exercises) and group 2 (sham HILT and stretching exercises). Treatments will be performed twice a week for 4 weeks with 3 assessments: before treatment (T0), at the end of treatment (T1), and 12 weeks after treatment (follow-up) (T2). The main outcomes will be pain intensity at rest, pain intensity at movement (active cervical movements: flexion, extension, right and left side bending, and right and left rotation), and pain pressure threshold (average obtained for six evaluation points). Secondary outcome measures will include neck range of motion in the sagittal, coronal, and transverse planes and neck disability. DISCUSSION In this study, HILT's effects on patients with non-specific NP will be compared to those of a sham laser intervention. This RCT will offer new evidence regarding the potential benefits of HILT in terms of pain intensity, range of movement, and disability in people suffering with non-specific NP. Abstract
Background Shock wave-enhanced emission photoacoustic streaming (SWEEPS) is a novel irrigation activation method based on photoacoustic streaming. The aim of this study was to look into the impact of SWEEPS on the attachment and survival of dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs). Materials and Methods In this in vitro study, 34 standardized root segments were randomly allocated into two groups: SWEEPS and the conventional conditioning group. After the irrigation, human DPSCs were seeded on the internal walls of these samples, and the attachment and survival of 30 of them were assessed on different days. The remaining two samples were observed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Independent sample t-test, Mann-Whitney U-test, one-way ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis, and two-way ANOVA were used for data analysis with the level of significance = 0.05. Results The viability of DPSCs was significantly greater in the SWEEPS group in comparison with the conventional conditioning group (P = 0.029). Both groups have shown a significant increase in the viability of DPSCs over time (P = 0.0001, P = 0.003). SEM results have shown a smear layer-free surface with firmly attached DPSCs in the SWEEPS group. Conclusion The results of this study indicated that active irrigation using SWEEPS could provide a superior surface in terms of viability and attachment of DPSCs compared to the conventional conditioning method.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyse the surgical outcome of CO2 laser assisted tonsillectomy with the cold steel (conventional dissection and snare) tonsillectomy. MATERIALS AND METHODS This prospective, non-randomised, single blind study was conducted in 25 cases suffering with recurrent tonsillitis. The left tonsillectomy was performed with CO2 laser while the right tonsil was excised using cold steel method (conventional dissection and snare method). The surgical time, blood loss and post-operative pain for each method was recorded and analysed. RESULTS CO2 laser tonsillectomy had highly significant less intra-operative blood loss (41.8ml vs. 78.8ml with p = 0.001) and postoperative pain levels on postoperative day 1,3, and 5 ( p value of 0.013, 0.006 and 0.000 respectively) as compared to cold steel method. However; there was no statistically significant difference in operative time between the two techniques (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION CO2 laser tonsillectomy appeared to be better technique than cold steel in terms of intra-operative haemorrhage and pain.

Abstract
BACKGROUND As a new pulse modality of holmium laser in retrograde intrarenal stone surgery, the MOSES technique can reduce the possibility of stone drifting and help to powder kidney stones in vitro and in animal experiments. However, there remains controversy about whether the MOSES mode needs to be used instead of the regular mode in clinical practice. This meta-review was conducted to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of MOSES technology for stone disease. METHODS PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and CNKI were searched for relevant studies until September 2022, with 1 RCT and 6 nonrandomized studies included. We pulled data on adverse events, success rates and operative time to analyze based on the random effect model. RESULTS We found that using MOSES mode could shorten the operative time (standard mean difference [SMD] - 0.43; 95% confidence interval [CI] - 0.79 to - 0.08; P = 0.016) than regular mode especially in a small sample study or in the Asian area. When the number of women is smaller than the number of men, the reduction of the duration was also significant. Stone-free rates of the two modes had no difference (relative risk [RR] 1.06; 95% CI 0.99-1.12; P = 0.30), and there was no publication bias. In terms of safety, no significant difference in complications was detected between the two approaches (RR 0.85; 95% CI 0.48-1.53; P = 0.81) without significant heterogeneity. CONCLUSION MOSES mode holmium laser was superior to the regular mode laser in terms of procedure time. There was no large disparity in stone-free rates or complications between the two modes. However, our conclusions should be confirmed in prospective studies with high evidence.

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the scientific evidence on the impact of photobiomodulation adjunct to non-surgical periodontal treatment on individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses statement was followed. A protocol was registered in the International Prospective Registry of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO #CRD42022310756). The research was carried out in seven databases, with no restrictions regarding the year of publication. Our work included studies that compared periodontal clinical parameters among individuals undergoing non-surgical periodontal therapy associated with photobiomodulation and a control group of individuals undergoing non-surgical periodontal treatment. Study selection, data extraction, and risk of bias assessment (RoB 2.0) were performed by two review authors. Meta-analysis was performed. Mean difference (MD) and a 95% confidence interval (CI) were provided. Three hundred forty-one studies were identified, of which eight studies were included. The meta-analysis demonstrated that photobiomodulation adjunctive to periodontal therapy in individuals with diabetes resulted in a greater reduction in probing depth and greater attachment gain in comparison to periodontal treatment alone (p < 0.05). The included studies exhibited a low risk of bias. Photobiomodulation adjunct to periodontal therapy contributes to the improvement of periodontal clinical parameters in individuals with T2DM.

Abstract
Cutaneous papillomas or acrochorda usually appear after the 4th decade of life in areas with skin folds. Conventional methods of removal are associated with bleeding problems, pain and prolonged sequelae. Thus, acrochorda removal with lasers has gained attention. In this study, we compared the efficacy of two popular laser types with different wavelengths and pulse widths for removal of skin tags. A 60-year-old Korean male noticed skin tags on his neck bilaterally. All tags were treated in a single session, on one side with a picosecond (ps)-domain 532 nm Nd:YAG laser and on the contralateral side with a long-pulsed (LP) 755 nm alexandrite laser. The endpoint for the ps-532 laser was immediate whitening, while that for the LP and quasi-LP (QLP) 755 lasers were visible changes on the surface of the lesion. Antibiotic ointment was applied, dressing was done and clinical photographs were taken. Both lasers effectively removed the skin tags at all settings in a single session without bleeding and with minimal discomfort. Crust formation occurred on both sides with natural shedding within 1 to 2 weeks. Transient erythema lasted longer in the tags treated with the ps-532 laser. At the 5th month of follow-up, residual lesions were detected on the field treated with the ps-532 laser. No persistent side effects such as scarring or postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) were observed. In conclusion, both the ps-532 nm Nd:YAG and the 755 nm alexandrite lasers ensured safe and effective removal of skin tags in a single session without adverse sequelae.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Nasal obstruction and congestion can occur because of turbinate and septal variations with or without rhinitis. A combined treatment for nasal obstruction and congestion was examined retrospectively in cases where the nasal swell body was addressed with inferior turbinectomy, with or without posterior nasal nerve ablation. METHODS A 940 nm laser was utilised for contact (nasal swell body, septum and inferior turbinate) and non-contact (posterior nasal nerve) ablation. Total Nasal Symptoms Score, visual analogue scale pain score, complications and procedure location (office vs operating theatre) were recorded. RESULTS All 242 patients underwent nasal swell body reduction with inferior turbinate reduction, and 150 had posterior nasal nerve ablation also. No laser complications were observed. An 80 per cent reduction in medication usage was noted. Total Nasal Symptoms Score decreased by 73 per cent; rhinorrhoea and congestion scores decreased by 54 per cent and 81 per cent respectively. Crusting, epistaxis and infections were minimal, and resolved within two weeks. CONCLUSION Nasal swell body with inferior turbinate reduction, with or without posterior nasal nerve ablation, is a new method of treating nasal obstruction and congestion. Laser posterior nasal nerve ablation can be utilised as a complementary tool to deliver anatomical obstruction relief.

Abstract
This investigation has aimed to compare the efficiency of clinical depigmentation and repigmentation rate of erbium chromium-doped: yttrium, scandium, gallium, garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG) and diode lasers during a 1-year follow-up and to evaluate patient satisfaction. Twenty-two participants were divided into Er,Cr:YSGG laser and diode laser groups using computer-aided randomization. Dummett Oral Pigmentation Index (DOPI) and photographic assessment with ImageJ Software version 10.2 were performed at the preoperative period and postoperative 1st month, 6th month, and 12th month. Moreover, the study assessed intra- and postoperative intensities of pain and postoperative patient aesthetic satisfaction using the Visual Analog Scale in both groups. The median values of DOPI did not differ statistically between the groups according to time (p > 0.05). In the Er,Cr:YSGG group, the extension of repigmentation was less as compared to the diode group at 1-year follow-up (p = 0.045). In the Er,Cr:YSGG group, the patients felt less intraoperative pain and discomfort compared to the diode group (p = 0.007). No significant differences were found between the two groups in terms of patient aesthetic satisfaction at the 1st and 12th months. The findings indicate that diode and Er,Cr:YSGG lasers can be used safely in depigmentation treatment, while the Er,Cr:YSGG laser has been shown to have superiorities in pain management and patient comfort parameters. Abstract
BACKGROUND The advent of fractionated picosecond (ps) lasers has provided an opportunity to explore new ways of creating microinjuries in the skin to induce skin rejuvenation. OBJECTIVE To compare the efficacy and safety of diffractive optical element (DOE)-assisted ps neodymium: yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Nd:YAG) lasers with 532-nm and 1,064-nm wavelengths (532-nm and 1,064-nm Nd:YAG P-DOE) using a novel fractional handpiece for the treatment of photoaged skin. METHODS An ex vivo guinea pig skin experiment was performed by evaluating the histology of the skin after 532-nm Nd:YAG P-DOE irradiation. A randomized, prospective, split-face study was performed on eight subjects with 532-nm and 1,064-nm Nd:YAG P-DOE. RESULTS Based on the histological evaluation using ex vivo guinea pig skin, a reasonable safety profile and the potential to generate effective skin rejuvenation was observed using the 532-nm Nd:YAG P-DOE. Results demonstrated that both 532- and 1,064-nm Nd:YAG P-DOE were similarly effective in improving skin texture and skin pores; however, 532-nm Nd:YAG P-DOE was more effective in treating dyspigmentation. CONCLUSION At a preliminary level, this study revealed that 532-nm and 1,064-nm ps Nd:YAG lasers using DOE fractional technology may improve photoaged skin. In conclusion, 532-nm Nd:YAG P-DOE may be especially beneficial for skin with epidermal pigmentary lesions.

Abstract
Becker's nevus (BN) is a benign hamartoma that may present as a distressing cosmetic problem. The treatment of BN poses a significant challenge as current therapeutic modalities are suboptimal and have an increased risk of adverse effects, such as scarring and dyspigmentation. We present the use of non-ablative fractional laser therapy combined with Q-switched Nd:YAG laser as a possible therapeutic option for BN treatment and review relevant literature to discuss its efficacy and limitations.

Abstract
PURPOSE Laser acupuncture, a non-invasive variant of acupuncture, has been proven effective in the medical and dental fields. Hence, the present study aims to determine the effect of low-level laser therapy on the LI4 point, using a laser acupuncture pen, in reducing children's pain during local anesthetic (LA) administration. METHODS Children in the age range of 8-12 years, in need of LA administration, were randomly assigned to two groups: Group I: laser acupuncture, Group II: control. For all the children, baseline simplified Modified Child Dental Anxiety Scale-Faces version (MCDAS(f)) was recorded, followed by laser acupuncture or standard care. Following the conventional protocol, LA was administered. The procedural pain was assessed using the Faces, Legs, Activity, Cry and Consolability scale (FLACC) and Faces Pain Scale-Revised (FPS-R). All the variations in pulse rate were recorded from baseline to the completion of LA administration. After the procedure, simplified MCDAS(f) was recorded one more time. The data were tabulated and analyzed statistically. RESULTS A significant reduction in anxiety after LA administration, as observed in MCDAS(f) score, was noticed only in the laser acupuncture group. The pain scores, as reported in FPS-R, were low in children randomized to the laser group compared to the control. The FLACC pain scores also showed low values in the experimental group. CONCLUSION Based on the study findings, within the limitations, low-level laser therapy using a laser acupuncture pen can reduce the pain perception of children undergoing LA administration and alleviate dental anxiety.

Abstract
It was to report a rare case of peripheral odontogenic myxoma removed with high-power diode laser and to do an extensive review of studies of odontogenic cysts and tumors treated with high-power laser (HPL). This is a rare case of a 63-year-old male patient with a peripheral odontogenic myxoma measuring approximately 10 cm in the attached gingiva region of tooth 16 removed with a high-power diode laser (808 nm, 3 W, in continuous mode, under constant suction, with 400-µm optical fiber). A literature review was also carried out looking for articles that involved the use of HPL in the treatment of odontogenic cysts and tumors, without restriction of year or language. In the present case, there was no need for suturing, no postoperative discomfort, and minimal bleeding during the procedure. In a 12-month follow-up period, there were no signs of recurrence. Only two cases of intra-osseous odontogenic myxomas treated with HPL and 10 cases involving other odontogenic cysts and tumors were found. All studies showing HPL to be effective in treating these lesions. Despite the different types of lasers used and different parameters, it is observed that lasers are effective in the treatment of odontogenic lesions.

Abstract
PURPOSE To determine whether the early apical release (EAR) technique for holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HOLEP) is associated with improved perioperative outcomes compared to the En-bloc no touch (EBNT) technique. METHODS Consecutive men treated with HOLEP by a single surgeon from August 2018 to March 2021 were identified. Beginning in June 2021 all procedures were performed using the EAR technique, and these were compared to the preceding cases done with the EBNT technique. Intraoperative outcomes included operative time, need for open conversion, enucleation efficiency (tissue removed per minute of OR time), and enucleation ratio (tissue removed relative to preoperative gland size on imaging). Postoperative outcomes included catheter reinsertion, blood transfusion, and complications classified by the Clavien-Dindo scale. RESULTS We identified 801 men, including 571 (71%) treated with EBNT and 230 (29%) with EAR. Median preoperative characteristics were similar between groups. The EAR approach was associated with significantly longer mean operating room time, 100.5 min versus 91.9 min, p = 0.003. However, EAR patients had a much lower rate of conversion to open cystotomy (0.43% versus 3.0%). There were no significant differences in rate of catheter reinsertion or perioperative complications between groups (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION EAR technique by an experienced HoLEP surgeon resulted in longer operative times, potentially reflecting an initial learning curve, but essentially eliminated the need for open cystotomy. Perioperative results including catheter reinsertion rate and bleeding complications were similar between the two cohorts. These data support continued use of the EAR technique for HOLEP to minimize risk of open conversion.

Abstract
PURPOSE The present study sought to provide reproducible and patient-oriented metrics to assess the rate of "successful" outcomes (Trifecta) following holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP). Clinical and surgical predictors of failure to achieve Trifecta were investigated. MATERIALS AND METHODS We queried our prospectively collected database of all patients treated with HoLEP between March 2017 and January 2021. Trifecta was defined as the contemporary presence of: (1) no postoperative complication within 3 months; (2) no urinary incontinence at 3-months follow-up; and (3) 3-month postoperative max flow-rate >15 mL/s. Cases were grouped according to Trifecta achievement. All surgical procedures were carried out by a single surgeon. Surgical experience was divided into two different eras according to the number of procedures conducted (surgical era). Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to assess predictors of Trifecta failure. RESULTS Overall 305 patients were included. Of these, 192 patients (63.0%) achieved Trifecta. Preoperative patient-related features were comparable between the two groups, except for a higher post-void residual (PVR) in non-Trifecta patients (median 180 vs. 130 mL, p=0.003). A significant proportion of Trifecta patients (88.5%) were treated in the second surgical era and in 126 (65.6%) cases an en-bloc enucleation was performed. Multivariate analysis confirmed PVR ≥250 mL, first surgical era and standard three-lobes enucleation technique as independent predictors of Trifecta failure. CONCLUSIONS In our experience the rate of "successful" HoLEP, defined according to our newly introduced Trifecta metric, was 63.0%. We demonstrated that surgical strategy together with rising experience and baseline PVR are key elements to forecast the outcomes.

Abstract
Introduction Crack formation has become an important issue for endodontists, as it can be decisive for the long-term prognosis of the endodontically treated tooth. Since the applicability of laser in endodontics has become frequent, this systematic review aimed to evaluate the association between laser therapy and the formation of cracks in the dentinal structure of the root canal. Materials and Methods A search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Virtual Health Library, as well as in the gray literature, on September 24, 2021. Studies that evaluated the formation of cracks in human root dentin due to different types of lasers were included. The risk of bias was assessed following the modified version of the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) checklist tool. A meta-analysis was performed to evaluate (i) the total number of crack incidences; (ii) complete crack formation; (iii) incomplete crack formation; (iv) intra-dentinal crack formation between ultrasonic tips and laser use. The mean difference was calculated with a 95% confidence interval in a fixed-effect model, the heterogeneity was tested using the I2 index with level of significance of 5%. Results Of the 22 studies included in this review, 15 have shown that lasers can form cracks in root dentin, including those that performed baseline assessment of samples. The meta-analysis confirmed no difference in crack formation between ultrasonic tips and laser devices. Conclusions Laser therapy has been gaining prominence in endodontics and that irradiation can form and propagate cracks in the dentinal structure of the root canal assessed by in vitro studies. This is a critical concern for endodontists as it affects the strength and longevity of the tooth. Future research is encouraged to seek the standardization of good methodological practices and achieve establishing parameters to minimize harmful effects of laser on dentin.

Abstract
In this study, the optimal detection range performance of a LiDAR system employing coaxial optics is analyzed. On analyzing laser beam diameter, beam divergence angle, light-receiving area, and receiving light intensity, the optimal detection range was exhibited when the collimator focal length was 6.5 mm, the laser-beam divergence angle was 1.23 mrad, and the hole of the receiving mirror was 1.4 mm. Furthermore, the maximum deviation of the optical scan angles with respect to the mechanical angles of the polygon mirror and the MEMS mirror were analyzed as -0.99° and +4.54° in the x-axis and y-axis directions, respectively.

Abstract
PURPOSE We conducted this Bayesian network meta-analysis (NMA) to evaluate the safety and efficacy of different lasers and PDT compared to conventional mechanical debridement (CMD) for peri-implant treatment. METHODS The Web of Science, Cochrane Library and PubMed databases were searched for randomized clinical trials (RCTs) assessing the clinical effectiveness of adjunctive PDT, different lasers, and CMD until January 1st, 2022. Clinical outcomes were the changes in pocket probing depth (PPD), marginal bone loss (MBL), and clinical attachment level (CAL). RESULTS Twenty-three studies, including 4 types of lasers, were included. Compared to that with CMD alone, PPD reduction was significantly more efficient in the diode laser (LD)+CMD groups (MD, 0.53; 95%CI, 0.13-0.93) and the PDT+CMD groups (MD, 0.83; 95%CI, 0.32-1.34) than in the CMD group in the follow-up period. Moreover, PDT+CMD treatment also showed a significantly better marginal bone level gain (MD, 0.32; 95%CI, 0.06-0.57). No significant effect on ΔCAL was observed among the different treatment strategies. Despite no differences in PPD reduction, MBL and CAL gains were found among the adjunctive laser treatment groups, PDT+CMD had the highest ranking probability of the most effective treatment in these clinical indices of periodontitis. The certainty of evidence for all outcomes was judged as very low to moderate. CONCLUSIONS Within the limits of this NMA, we found that adjunctive PDT achieved a small additional benefit on PPD reduction and MBL gain compared with CMD alone and had the highest probability of being ranked first on the changes in PPD, MBL and CAL. PDT+CMD may represent an alternative method for peri‑implant treatment. Further high-quality RCTs are needed to assess the influence of potential confounders on the efficacy of lasers and PDT.

Abstract
Self-monitoring of capillary blood glucose is important for controlling diabetes. Recently, a laser lancing device (LMT-1000) that can collect capillary blood without skin puncture was developed. We enrolled 150 patients with type 1 or 2 diabetes mellitus. Blood sampling was performed on the same finger on each hand using the LMT-1000 or a conventional lancet. The primary outcome was correlation between glucose values using the LMT-1000 and that using a lancet. And we compared the pain and satisfaction of the procedures. The capillary blood sampling success rates with the LMT-1000 and lancet were 99.3% and 100%, respectively. There was a positive correlation (r=0.974, P<0.001) between mean blood glucose levels in the LMT-1000 (175.8±63.0 mg/dL) and conventional lancet samples (172.5±63.6 mg/dL). LMT-1000 reduced puncture pain by 75.0% and increased satisfaction by 80.0% compared to a lancet. We demonstrated considerable consistency in blood glucose measurements between samples from the LMT-1000 and a lancet, but improved satisfaction and clinically significant pain reduction were observed with the LMT-1000 compared to those with a lancet.

Abstract
BACKGROUND It is essential to understand the mechanism of the various causes of laser fiber damage and an ideal method of reducing endoscope damage induced by laser emission in multiple sites. This study classified the different patterns of laser fiber degradation according to laser settings and analyzed the role of cavitation bubbles to find a desirable way of minimizing endoscope damage. METHODS A total of 118 laser fibers were analyzed after 1-,3-, and 5-min laser emission to artificial stones under the settings of 1 J-10 Hz, 1 J-20 Hz, 1 J-30 Hz, and 2 J-10 Hz. Every 3 cm from the fiber tip was marked and examined with a digital microscope and a high-speed camera. The images of the fibers and the movement of cavitation bubbles were taken with a distance of 1 to 5 mm from the gel. RESULTS Seven types of fiber damage (charring, limited and extensive peeled-off, bumpy, whitish plaque, crack, and break-off) coincided during laser emission. Damages rapidly increased with emission time > 3 minutes regardless of the laser settings. The damaged lengths covered 5 mm on average, and the fibers at 5-min emission were significantly shorter than others. The fiber durability of 1J-10Hz setting was better than other settings after 3-min laser emission. Backward movement of the cavitation bubbles was found at the 1-mm distance from the gel, and the damaged lengths were longer than the diameters of the cavitation bubbles because of their proximal movement. CONCLUSION The damage patterns of the laser fiber tips were classified into seven types. The heat damage around the surface of the laser fiber can be increased according to the high-energy or high-frequency laser setting, a short distance to the stone, a short distance from the tips of flexible ureteroscopes, no cutting laser fiber procedures, and the inappropriate use of irrigation fluid or laser fiber jacket.

Abstract
The aims of this study were to analyze prospectively and comparatively the peri-implant bone crest levels, bone density, stability and success rate of implants with different surface treatments in human edentulous mandibles. Twenty edentulous patients were selected. Four different implants were placed between the mental foramen. Four groups were evaluated: (1) laser-modified surface (LASER), (2) surface modified by laser with deposition of apatites (LASER + HA), (3) surface modified by double acid etching (ACID, Implacil De Bortoli) and (4) surface modified by sandblasting and acid etching (SLActive®, Straumann). Clinical, radiographic, resonance frequency and tomographic analyses were used. After 4 months, mandibular fixed implant prostheses were installed. Clinical and radiographic analyses were performed at times T0 (immediately after implant placement), T1 (15 days), T2 (30 days), T3 (60 days), T4 (90 days), T5 (120 days), T6 (180 days) and T7 (360 days), post-implant placement. The resonance frequency analysis (RFA) was measured at T0, T4, T6 and T7. The tomographic analysis was performed at T0, T4 and T7. In the radiographic bone density analysis, a statistical difference was found between the SLActive® and LASER + HA groups at T4 (p < 0.05). Statistical differences were observed in RFA at T4 (90 days), between the SLActive® and LASER groups (p < 0.05) and between the SLActive® and LASER + HA groups (p < 0.05). At T6 and T7, statistical differences were found between the SLActive® group and all other implant surfaces (p < 0.01). The experimental surfaces analyzed showed encouraging positive outcomes compared to those of the SLActive® surface. Long-term follow-up should be performed to confirm these results.

Abstract
AIM The aim of this study was to evaluate combined efficacy of methylene blue mediated antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (a-PDT) using 660 nm diode laser versus Er, Cr: YSGG laser as an adjunct to scaling and root planing on improving the Probing depth (PD), Clinical attachment level (CAL), Plaque Index (PI) and Gingival Index (GI).clinical parameters in Supportive periodontal therapy. MATERIALS AND METHOD In this split-mouth, double-blind, randomized controlled trial, we compared a-PDT versus Er,Cr:YSGG as an adjunct to scaling and root planning (SRP) with SRP alone in Supportive periodontal therapy. A total of 36 subjected were enrolled. In each patient, two quadrants constituted the control group (Group I - Scaling and root planing SRP alone), one site in other quadrant constituted the test group 1 (Group II - SRP followed by application of Er, Cr: YSGG laser), and another site in different quadrant constituted the test group 2 (Group III - SRP followed by antimicrobial Photodynamic therapy using diode laser). The diode laser was operated at a peak power of 70 mW using a 0.6 mm diameter fiber-optic tip. Each site was irradiated with a power density of 28 mW/cm2, for 10 s, thus delivering a total energy of 16.72 J/cm2 per tooth. Whereas, the Er,Cr:YSGG laser's parameters were set to 1 W of power, 10% air, and 15% water. The same procedure was repeated at 1st, 2nd and 3rd week for both the laser therapies. Plaque index (PI), Gingival index (GI), Probing depth (PD,) and Clinical attachment level (CAL) were measured by a single examiner at baseline and 3 months follow up. Inter group analysis of the parameters were done using One-way ANOVA and pairwise comparison was carried out by Tukey's post hoc test. Intra group analysis was performed using Students's paired t test. Statistical significance was set to p < 0.05. RESULTS There were no significant differences between participants for clinical parameters at baseline. PI, GI PD, and CAL significantly improved at 3 months follow up compared to baseline in both the study groups (Group II - SRP + Er,Cr:YSGG, Group III - SRP + a-PDT) with P < 0.05. Adjunctive use of Er,Cr:YSGG laser with SRP showed better clinical outcomes than a-PDT with SRP. CONCLUSION Nonsurgical periodontal therapy of chronic periodontitis using Er, Cr: YSGG, and a-PDT as an adjunct to SRP was significantly more effective than SRP alone in reducing PD, CAL, GI, and PI at 3 months follow up. Adjunctive use of Er,Cr:YSGG laser with SRP showed better clinical outcomes than a-PDT with SRP. However, the long-term positive benefits of the laser therapies are yet unknown and more research with longer follow-ups are required.
